Honestly, most of what’s changed behind the scenes over the past 5-7 years was really just an attempt to build the features we wanted 17 years ago. The internet’s changed a lot since then, new platforms, new ways people find and consume shows, and now AI-driven search. This relaunch is the first time our site actually matches where all of that is headed, instead of us playing catch-up.
Why we’re doing this
We wanted a site that finally does justice to 17 years of content, and one we can leave alone once it’s live instead of constantly patching. So we rebuilt it from the ground up with that in mind: relaunch once, properly, and then focus on making shows instead of fighting the website.
New domain, same network
GeekCastRadio.com is becoming TheGCRN.com. Every old link will automatically redirect, so nothing breaks and nothing goes dead. “The GCRN” has actually been part of our identity since the very beginning, this just makes it official.
The archive is back
We’ve restored old content from the previous site, including years of listener comments, and cleaned things up so browsing the archive actually feels good again.
Video content also now has its own dedicated space instead of being mixed in with everything else, so our video shows finally get the presentation they deserve.
The fun part: what’s new
This relaunch isn’t just a coat of paint. Here’s what you’ll actually get to use:
- Topic Hubs. Every show, episode, and article on a shared topic (say, everything we’ve ever covered about a franchise) now lives together automatically. No more digging through years of archives to find everything we’ve said about your favorite universe.
- Collections. Hand-picked groupings for the good stuff, like “Best of Season 3” or anniversary retrospectives, curated by us instead of left to chance.
- Coming Soon. A dedicated space for everything we’re excited about, upcoming movies, shows, anime, and games, complete with trailers and info, plus links to any of our episodes discussing them.
- Geek Meter. Our own review system, built right into the site, so you can see how we rated something at a glance, right alongside the episode or article.
- Poll Manager. Real bracket-style voting is coming back, think March Madness-style tournaments for your favorite characters, movies, and more, with real results instead of a hand-counted form.
- Voice Clips. Ever wanted to leave us a voicemail-style clip we could feature on a show? Now you can, tested during our Top 100 countdown and sticking around for good.
- Smarter social sharing. New content will start showing up across our social channels faster and more consistently, so you’ll never miss a drop.
What’s still ahead
We’re not chasing perfection before we hit publish. A few finishing touches are still being polished behind the scenes, but none of them are holding up the launch. We’d rather get this out to you and keep improving in the open than sit on it any longer.
Thanks for sticking with us through 17 years of us figuring this out in public. More to come soon.
