History

From a single Transformers podcast to a 17-year independent media institution — this is the story of TheGCRN.com.

2008–2009: The Spark

The seeds of the network were planted in 2008 with the launch of “All Things Transformers,” a passion project created by Steve “Megatron” Phillips. A few months later, Michael Blanchard — better known as TFG1Mike — joined as co-host, instantly solidifying a creative partnership that would define the network. Together they officially launched the GeekCast Radio Network on June 1, 2009.

2010–2012: The Programming Explosion

The year 2010 marked a turning point. The lineup exploded with legacy shows including ToonCast, Movie Week In Review, ToyCast, GeekCast Radio, and The Tele-Cast. During this era, GCRN achieved a historic milestone — becoming the first and only podcast network to chronologically review the entirety of the Beast Era with The Beast Unleashed Podcast, a definitive deep-dive into Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

New voices joined the collective. PecanCtMichael became a fixture on Transformers review programming, while OptimusSolo joined ToonCast and went on to anchor Cinema Geeks. In 2011, GCRN launched its most ambitious project to date: the Top 100 Animated Series of All Time Countdown, establishing a fan-forward ranking standard that challenged corporate lists and set a benchmark for quality community countdowns.

2013–2019: A Decade of Evolution

The network diversified steadily through the decade. Altered Geek and The Pull Bag joined the schedule in 2013. By 2018, flagship shows were crossing the 300-episode mark and individual hosts were logging four-digit episode counts. In 2019, GCRN celebrated 10 years of broadcasting with the launch of Site Version 9, expanding into video programming, on-the-ground convention press coverage, and strategic host diversification.

2020–2024: Passing 4,000 Episodes

Entering the 2020s, GCRN proved its unmatched staying power. Shows comfortably crossed 400 episodes, while ToyCast and ToonCast made triumphant returns. A Transformers-dedicated countdown reinforced the network’s niche authority. The defining milestone arrived when GCRN officially crossed 4,000 published podcast episodes — cementing its place in an elite tier of independent content networks.

2025–Present: The Modern Era

Today, operating at Site Version 10, TheGCRN.com continues to pioneer indie-first media workflows. By 2026, the network surpassed 4,500+ podcast episodes and 4,600+ YouTube videos, generating hundreds of thousands of digital impressions quarterly. To celebrate this enduring legacy, GCRN launched the 15th Anniversary Edition of the Top 100 Animated Series Countdown — bringing the network’s history full circle with its largest community event yet.

From an intimate retro-toy discussion in 2008 to a multi-channel digital collective, GCRN remains dedicated to its founding mission: To Unleash the Geek in YOU!™
