The GCRN Scoring System — The Geek Meter

The Geek Meter is GCRN’s proprietary review scoring system — built to reflect the full consumer experience, not reduce complex creative works to a single arbitrary number.

The Geek Meter evaluates across multiple dimensions: narrative value, artistic execution, entertainment factor, and consumer worth. Scores represent the opinion of the individual reviewer, not a network consensus. The score follows the argument — the argument never follows the score.

Review Copy & Asset Disclosure

To provide timely coverage, GCRN occasionally receives complimentary review assets directly from publishers, PR agencies, and brands — including digital review codes, advance screening access, media screener links, and physical promotional products.

  • No Pay-for-Play: Receiving an asset does not guarantee a positive rating, featured placement, or a specific angle of critique. Period.
  • FTC Compliance: Every review using a provided asset explicitly discloses this relationship with a visible notice. Example: “A digital review code was provided by the publisher for review purposes.”

Scoring Philosophy

Our reviewers complete their full experience of the content before scoring. Scores are never adjusted based on advertiser relationships, studio access, or PR pressure. Clear, honest prose leads the review — the score follows.

Spoilers Policy

We respect our community’s desire to experience pop culture fresh.

  • All official reviews are written and recorded spoiler-free regarding major narrative twists, post-credit sequences, and third-act conclusions.
  • Deep-dive podcast recaps and editorial features requiring detailed story discussion carry a prominent SPOILER WARNING at the top of the content.
  • We do not put spoilers in headlines, thumbnails, or social posts without explicit warning.
