About this Episode

TFG1Mike and PecanCtMichael continue their summer marathon of Phineas and Ferb by breaking down the episodes "The Magnificent Few" and "S'Winter." They analyze the plot mechanics of each cartoon, discuss the recurring Dr. Doofenshmirtz schemes, and highlight their favorite jokes and pop-culture references. The hosts also share their thoughts on the series' pacing and voice acting as they progress through the first season.

There's a hundred and four days of summer vacation

Then school comes along just to end it So the

annual problem for our generation Is finding

a good way to spend it Like maybe building a

rocket Or fighting a mummy Or climbing up the

Eiffel Tower Discovering something that doesn't

exist Or giving a monkey a shower Skirping tidal

waves Creating nanobots Or locating Frankenstein's

brain It's over here! Hello and welcome to episode

3! of Pauka podcast organization without a cool

acronym. This is day three of summer 2016. I

am one of your hosts, TFD on Mike. And joining

me as usual is, I wouldn't really call him Mike

Ferb because he talks almost more than I do,

is Pecan Court Michael. Hey, how's it going?

It's going. Yeah, it's going. So today we are

continuing on in our Phineas and Ferb journey.

We got two more 11 -minute cartoon episodes to

talk about here. And yeah, it's going to be a

fun little jaunt. And I'm sure there's going

to be a lot of references. There's probably going

to be a lot of innuendos and jaunts. Innuendos?

What'd you drop? I didn't drop anything. That

was a gust of wind that came up. Yeah. Gust of

wind. Okay, alright. You had the beans tonight,

huh? No, no, no. Not a ga - No, no, no. A gust

of wind coming in from the outside. It's not

a gas of wind. I'm not a windbag here. You got

the windows open? Yeah. It's a nice night! Hey,

no wonder it sounds like you're sitting on a

train track. Just walking down the tracks like

a hobo. With your stick in over your shoulder.

Your belongings tied to it So here's the thing

folks we um And I'm not trying to make this this

this episode this intro too terribly long, but

it's already gotten that way when they originally

Stated that Phineas and Ferb was going to be

ending last year They their last episode is called

the last day of summer so What they did was for

a whole weekend 72 hours or so They reran an

entire marathon on Disney Channel of the entire

show from the first episode To the finale the

last day of summer and it was epically awesome

buddy of mine Doug Abel who does the talking

about my generation podcast he needs a huge release

inferred fan as well and he I had mentioned something

earlier before we recorded this that I needed

to take a break. I had already watched one of

the episodes and I needed to take a break. It

wasn't because I was watching Phineas and he's

like, yeah, Marathoning Phineas and Ferb, as

good as the show is, it's kind of a trick. I

said I didn't need to take a break because I

didn't take a break because I was sitting at

the computer for two and a half hours doing other

crap before this. So, all right, we're going

to get to the magnificent view and flop. No,

not Flop Stars. Uh, Swinter! Swinter! After this.

So this is what happens when we record Day 3

of Summer 2016 at 11 .45 at night, folks. We'll

be back after this. Always ridin' and roppin'

on the trail Well them doggies are a -loopin'

on the trail Nothing worse than bees a -stangin'

Set this cowboy song we're singin' on the trail

The sunset's lookin' awful groovy on the trail

Cause they colorized this movie on the trail

No, you two look so cute. She means well, I'll

be back in a few hours. Have fun Yeah, right

You better not pull any of your weird stunts.

Got it. Don't fret none school Marmot So he was

like totally checking me out when little miss

pants walks in front of me Yeah, so I was like,

uh, hello and so she was like, oh, no you didn't

and I was like, oh, yes I did body. Sorry buckaroos

kind of raining nose ponies The Magnificent Few

is the next cartoon we're going to talk about

here on Palka. A visit to a dude ranch turns

into a stampede slash cattle drive through town,

and the cows become acrobats at a water park

when Dr. Doofenshmirtz starts an aluminum siding

business by making the termite -controlling helmet

to control termites. I know it's a part of Doofenshmirtz's

stick. He always has to have the self -destruct

button. Did he really need a reverse button on

the back of the helmet where he couldn't even

reach it? I want to say this is the one where

he had two self -destruct buttons. And an escape

hatch. He didn't use one. He says, not that one.

Yeah, yes that don't push they had that one it's

that in and there was a big giant yellow in black

like It's like, you know, like I said, but like

I said last time, you know, dr. Brown gave him

some plutonium or something or other Yeah, a

couple of firsts in this one with his lair we

get an escape hatch We Get the first appearance

of Vanessa, right The intern slash bring your

daughter to work day. Yeah. And after that, this

is a giant Austin Powers homage, really. I mean,

if you think about it. I'm not thinking about

it. I'm confused. Okay. Well, in the beginning

of the episode, specifically to Perry and Doof

and Schmertz, when Perry goes into the lair,

He goes down the hose thing, and he swims through

the water, and there's a bunch of friggin' sharks

with friggin' laser beams attached. The first

thing I thought of was Dr. Evil. He loves his

friggin' sharks with friggin' laser beams on

their heads. And then I believe it was Austin

Power, I think it was the second movie, Austin

Power is the spy who shagged me where he and

Agent Shagwell were stuck in a lava pit. So that's

another reference to the Austin Powers franchise

at least it's what I caught all right sure um

so Phineas and Ferb I Can't decide who is who

I can't I can't decide if Phineas is Billy Crystal

and Ferb is Daniel Stern or vice versa because

this is essentially city slickers This entire

episode is essentially city slickers. So what

they so much has come out and quote the movie

Yeah Yeah, I like the cow puns Other goodness

amazing yeah other goodness and the holy cow

she turns is holy cow That's funny I like when

Phineas is it's at the very end when they do

the it's close to the end of the episode where

they're where all the cows and face and fur in

the actual food court at the gook box mall exactly

and and they're like oh oh that was fun and then

you're like cows uh yeah and they all start but

the uh the best part about that is the uh the

the song in the mall You know, yeah, yeah, I'll

have that's funny You also speaking of them all

You forgot about the first appearance or that

not the first mention But the first actual showing

of the Google Plus small This is the first oh,

yeah, we've actually seen it let alone gone aside.

Yeah. Yeah cuz next tomorrow's episode will have

flop stars in it and that's all about Googleplex

mall yeah they're all the ball the one with this

episode when they're singing about the escalator

alls I can think of is poor Brody and mall rats

that kid is back on the escalator again that's

right I really dug this the plot Is is very well

most of these cartoons are very well thought

out and I'm not I'm trying to take the approach

with this show to not nitpick it as much as I

nitpick a lot of other cartoons or some of the

stuff I'm kind of taking in stride because it's

kind of hard to poke at the plot when it consists

of term termite invasions and cow stampedes and

water parks That's true Yeah, but it's one of

those things where because the two plots because

essentially you have it's almost like two cartoons

in one right because you have finished infer

plot and you have HMP and dr. Ruben Schmerz and

Sometimes at the beginning and almost always

at the end They have to intersect as you said

in one, you know one of the other day I think

it was day two or day one of summer where you

know, you had said that well, that's how finish

and first stuff disappears because it's something

that period of insurance and doing right so i'm

trying my best not to poke plothole things into

some of these plots because i know that's the

setup that's the gag is that the do finish mertz

foul up will eventually fix Clear up the boys's

adventures These dual plots are finally crafted

to fishtail at the end. Mm -hmm. I Don't ever

I don't think I've ever really realized how good

a fishtail could be Actual fishtail, I mean normally

when you use the term fishtailing it's a car

out of control kind of thing. Okay and Some of

these episodes as we go along will get very out

of control and they will be brought back into

control, but I means, you know Okay What did

you think of the magnificent few overall as far

as the plot goes? I liked it. There were some

likable moments The thing that made me laugh

really loud like like I was like Sorry Candice

Everybody goes down the cliffside water park

In fact, I think it was called the Cliffside

Waterpark. They go down the slide. It was. Yeah.

They go down, all the cows, Phineas and Ferb,

they all go down the slide. Candice bounces off

the slide, hits the side of the mountain, falls

into a cactus, falls into snakes, falls into

scorpions, and as a little scientist, it would

be worse, scorpions. She keeps falling. I laughed

so hard. I, you know, you know, what was it?

It's a Mel Brooks quote. well Brooks quote says

a comedy and tragedy tragedy is when I cut my

little finger and Comedy is when you fall down

a manhole and die This is exactly what this was

here I laughed so hard because Candice was gonna

die every time she hit a different part of that

mountain That's so hard She really she really

got it handed to you had a rough time this episode.

She was all try. She was like battle damage We

we used to talk about the battle damaged and

now it yeah she she had it bad The other thing

I liked is we actually got two curse use to end

this episode Mm -hmm Curse you. I don't think

he actually said the whole thing. It was like

curse you and then he flew off twice Well, yeah,

cuz at the end termites got yeah at the end you

know Perry turns the reverse turns the switch

to reverse and the termites all come back at

him and they actually pulled they pulled a classic

cartoon gag with doofenshmirtz you don't really

see it because you don't you're just expecting

to hear him say curse you Perry the platypus

but at the very end he's running the roller coaster

he's running down and the termites are coming

and coming and coming and they eventually engulf

him and he's running through the sky it's a wily

coyote kind of gag he's running through the sky

as he's saying curse you and he just fades away

but it's like when's he gonna look down so the

gravity will eventually take over and he'll just

I was expecting you to to uh compare that to

team rocket here's team rocket rushing off again

He wasn't blasting off, because he was just running

through the sky. He was kind of blasting off.

He never hit the ground. I don't know. I'll do

that when we get to... And the only reason why

I know this, folks, is because we've both seen...

I've seen these episodes, a lot of these episodes,

multiple times. I'll probably make a Team Rocket

reference when we get to talking about the Baljeetles

episode, because he actually does get shot off

by a rocket. Into the sky. Yep. All right Good

times. Yeah. All right the yes. Yes, we do moments.

What do you got? Oh Wow, I I'm sorry. I already

named off all the cool things because you specifically

asked me What do you think was cool about this?

And I I thought we were on that part already

Do you have any no, no, we don't moments What

didn't I like? No, it was it was a decent episode.

You know, I Don't know if I were to nitpick.

I'd say there was a lot going on here. I mean

you've got the city slickers. You've got the

The weird termite stuff going on and then you

kind of segue into the water park, you know If

I were Napoleon, where would I go? Waterloo,

you know And then I'll just kind of wheeze back

together Yeah. That would be my only complaint.

There's just a whole lot going on here. Or so

that you feel. Yeah. I really didn't have too

many things. I don't really have anything to

complain about either for things I didn't like.

I will say as soon as I saw Isabella's horse,

her little pony there that she gets and she gets

all googly eyed over. I forgot about that, the

My Little Pony. Yeah, it's a My Little Pony reference,

but the first thing I thought of and I blame

you for this First thing I thought of was Professor

Princess You know I right here at my notes it

says My Little Pony and I completely forgot Well,

that was funny. Yeah All right, what would you

rate this one out of five? Let's give it a four

I laughed really hard when Candice almost died

several times Yeah, I'm right there with you

a four because there wasn't anything to really

like I said nitpick out of it there wasn't anything

that Turned me off to the there are some moments

with doofenshmirtz where His gags go on a little

bit too long. I think sometimes or he drags them

out and a little long -winded this time And no,

he wasn't this time. That's what I'm saying.

There isn't things here in The Magnificent Few

to to really really really nitpick at so We are

gonna go have some fun We're actually gonna go

have a swinter day or if you prefer it would

be warmer. Well, we're not to be confused with

warmer. I Don't even want to know we'll be back

after this folks So, what are you boys thinking

of doing today? Uh, we don't know. It's too hard

to think. Yeah, Mum and I are getting rid of

a few old things at the antique store, but I

think I've got just what you need. A snow cone

machine, just like when I was a kid! How does

it work? Well, you pour the ice in here, you

give it a crank, add some syrup and Bob's your

uncle. Snow cones for everyone! Honey! We need

to go the antique show closes in just 12 hours.

Okay kids I'll leave you in charge of the machine

and be easy on your sister. She's been a bit

on edge lately Wow snow in July We're gonna need

a lot more ice what is all this it's a snow cone

you want some you mean crushed ice cover with

blue carbs lame Maybe Perry wants some. Hey,

where's Perry? Good morning, Agent P. I'll get

right to it. This time, we're worried about Doofenshmirtz

buying laser pointers. I mean, two or three of

them would be fine, but he just put in an order

for 18 ,000 of them? Holy, a crazy, evil, and

diabolical mind would do that. I'm sure you'll

know what to do, Agent P. Hey, Phineas! Hi, Isabella!

Whatcha doin'? We're making Swinter. Swinter?

It's a unique and logic -defying amalgam of winter

and summer. So, what do you prefer? Do you prefer

Swinter or Whommer? Uh... Whommer rhymes with

Hummer. Preference made. There's a bad BJ joke

in there somewhere, folks, but I'm not gonna

make it. Um... So we have Swinter. Phineas and

Ferb use a snow cone machine to create Swinter,

a unique and logic -defying amalgam of winter

and summer. Meanwhile, Candice follows Jeremy

around after noticing him hanging out with what

looks like a girl. Elsewhere, Dr. Doofenshmirtz

plans to melt all the chocolate in the Tri -State

area with his meltinator 6 -5000. That's awful.

I completely forgot what the but the the evil

scheme was for this episode Really it was it

was that unmemorable. Yeah He spent he spent

a goodly chunk of the episode just aiming it

aiming is anator at a truck that was Calling

chocolate for some reason Yeah, yeah, there's

a there's a few no. No, we don't moments in this

for me The plot overall, I think, is fairly straightforward,

and it's all... If you think about it, this entire

episode is based around desserts. Because let's

face it, snow cones are a dessert. They're, you

know, a tasty summer treat, and obviously, anything

to do with chocolate, unless it's wrapped in

bacon as a dessert. Especially if it's wrapped

in bacon. No. No, no, no, no, no. Is that a dinner

time fair? Is that what you're saying? No, it's

a bad thing. It's something that should never

be done. It's not dessert. It clearly belongs

on the breakfast table. Right next to your chocolate

covered pancakes. Your chocolate covered chocolate.

All right, yes, yes, we do moments 18 ,000 laser

pointers all the dogs and cats better watch out

That's all I can think of with laser pointers

is you know, you just let's face it folks laser

pointers We're a very 90s thing late mid to late

90s Like I haven't seen anyone with a laser pointer

in at least 15 years because they outlawed them.

Yeah People were like blinding jet pilots Yeah,

I don't even know how you do that honestly Just

flying by how do you shine a laser pointer at

a jet and get the pilot in the eyeball? I mean

unless you're like flying in front of the jet.

I don't see how that would happen Unless you're

riding on Perry the Platypus's jetpack But I

mean like seriously though 90s the laser pointers

were all the biggest rage for teenagers and kids

and everything else like that and it's like the

outside of parents saying You'll you'll burn

your eye out It's like Ralphie all over again.

You'll shoot your you'll burn your eye out, you

know But the only thing we ever really did with

them the only I ever really did with laser pointers

was I would drive pets crazy Do dogs care about

laser pointers or just cats cuz my cats it my

cats are all about the laser pointers But we've

gone through it several laser pointers, please

tell me you did not have 18 ,000 laser pointers

in your transformers closet toys that haven't

opened yet. No no I've only got three They're

floating around the house till summer, probably

in junk drawers or something. But the cats love

them. The dogs? I don't think they care. They're

like, hey, what's that? Yeah, I don't care. Perry

drawing major monogram. Now, that's funny. It's

just doodling. Water balloons that turn to ice.

I thought that was hilarious because it's warmer

and all that. Candice and Vanessa kind of have

a first meeting. It's not too terribly long,

but they kind of have a first meeting. She made

a little cameo on the ski lift. Yep. Yep. So

what about you? What did you like about this

one? You know Richard O 'Brien, I like him. Mm

-hmm. Give it a crank and Bob's her uncle. Just

like, ah. So close to everyone. Exactly. It's

like, oh man, you kill it. You can have one line

and you absolutely killed it. I was going to

say the next episode, he snores through the whole

thing, still killed it. That's how awesome he

is. I like the Schmertzograph. That was funny.

I'm doing those at work from now on. I'm not

doing any other graphs other than Schmertzographs.

Well, let's hope your popularity isn't an all

-time low With a big arrow going straight down

There there was some really you know some funny

doofensmerch quotes Especially like he says notes

of self my evil deed for tomorrow fire the maid

That's that's pretty evil man, that's that's

pretty low down dirty evil He says This made

me giggle he says Barry, how did you you ate

your own a high knee? Somehow like turned upside

down and eight eight this backside Just makes

me giggle, oh yeah, see at first I thought it

wasn't gonna be I mean I knew Kind of from the

laser pointers at first, but when I first saw

this episode the first time, not for this podcast,

but when it first aired or when it reran or whatever

else, when he makes the joke of after Perry is

splashed in the brown stuff, he's like, it's

not what you think, because I think everyone

would have thought it was a giant pile of shit.

It's chocolate. It's just chocolate. It's my

special recipe for a quick hardening chocolate,

and he actually shows the process of how he makes

the chocolate, and he puts fish in it? What?

What the hell is that? That's what makes it harden.

It's like magic shell. Sushi -scented magic shell.

That's just wrong. I know. Alright, on that note,

no no we don't moments. The Antique Show closes

in just 12 hours. What the hell? Come on, Linda.

What the hell? That's what they like. They're

old people, I guess. Well, they're not old people.

They're unique people, but... The fact that she's

worried about them being linked to an antique

show that closes in just 12 hours. I know that's

the joke, but I mean, come on. It'd take a while

to get there. Yeah. Wait, he fired the Meltonator

from the top of his building the first time,

when he first fires it to melt the chocolate

shop? Uh -huh. But now, when he first reveals

it, it comes out of the sewer. What the hell?

That didn't make the placement of the Meltonator

65000 made no sense to me, because it's in multiple

places at multiple times. This really isn't a

bad thing, but Lawrence has, Mr. Fletcher has

the line at the end. I wish you would have let

me buy the larger cuckoo clock and it's a good

thing she didn't let him because holy crap that

cuckoo broke the back window. It's a hell of

a cuckoo. I don't want to know what the hell

the larger one would have done to their house.

What about you? Anything you didn't like about

this one? What didn't I like? I don't think I

would have gone through that much trouble just

to make snow cones. I was kind of upset that

they didn't get the rights to Snoopy for this

one. Because no, clearly, it was a Snoopy snow

cone maker he had with no Snoopy. And I'm like,

what the hell, man? Come on. Get the rights to

Snoopy. I can't imagine how much that would cost,

but it's funny. There was no, have you seen Perry?

There was have you seen Candace Under the surfboard

or under the surfboard it's a What does that

call boogie board a snowboard? It's a bobsled

Think Buford has the same diet as Martin Riggs

from lethal weapon 3 Because I guess as I said

in day one of summer this year I said that I

actually watched these because I'll sit here

and make sure my audio is being recorded properly

I won't just you know Hit record and then go

do something else actually So I do watch these

episodes episodes twice all these cartoons that

we're doing I watch them twice each time once

for the recording and once for actual note -taking

purposes education yeah i know right i have no

life so there's that uh... you know so i've seen

the the the gang twice where she gets you know

be offered to drag her up like a like a like

a sled dog would yeah Twice I've seen her throw

him a dog biscuit. I'm like wait. No that really

wasn't a dog biscuit was it. Yes. Yes, it was

Now that sound effect when he chomps on it that's

that comes from somewhere I Recognize it. I'm

like, oh man. Where is that from? It wasn't the

scooby snack sound it was maybe it was maybe

I don't think it was but you know, they recycled

some sound effects that are Maybe some other

die -hard Finneas and Ferb Disney Scooby -Doo

fan can let us know. Anything else on Swinter?

No. Nope, nope. What would you rate Swinter?

Oh, man, I don't know. I mean, it wasn't a terrible

episode. It wasn't fantastic. I'd probably...

I'd probably give it a 2. Really? Yeah. I mean,

honestly, there wasn't that much... to really

remember it. Oh, there were so many good jokes

in this, though. You know, the Heinz Heinz, the

you ate your own hiney, the bobsled joke, the

dog biscuit thing. I think you ate your own hiney

was the only thing that really made me giggle.

And it wasn't like. And it was it wasn't like.

The what was the last joke that made me laugh

so hard? Candice yeah, she they have exactly

nobody was thrown down a mountain so Nobody was

thrown into a pit of scorpions exactly there

were no scorpions involved Yeah, there's no there's

no guy in the distance yelling get over here

Ladies and gentlemen when you can throw a mortal

combat reference into a finished inferred podcast

you know your life is complete All right. Um,

I'm actually going to give it a four and a half

because I laughed a lot with some of the jokes.

I thought, I thought it was a really, really

cool episode. And it also reminded me of, um,

the Simpsons. This is what, when Candace first,

uh, is talking to Stacey and the snow cone, it's

mounting up on her. Her window is getting darker

because the snow is mounting up against the house.

Reminded me of the Simpsons when Bart. makes

you know makes a snow day happen uh and and they

get out of school because he wished for a snow

day or something or so i really dug this one

i thought it was great all right all right we

will be back after this you're gonna hear some

some other podcast ads from the network and our

partners and some other stuff as well we will

be back in a moment for final thoughts on the

magnificent the magnificent few and swinters

as usual your timing is uncanny and by uncanny

of course i mean completely canny so barry the

platypus let me introduce to you my assistant

vanessa whatever Hehehe, she's new. Pixels in

delicious. A stampede through downtown? I mean,

who does this? Those two are so gonna get it.

I am shocked and dismayed. Well, now you can't

be both. You be shocked, I'll be dismayed. Coming

in 2016, Steve Megachon and myself, TF2 and Mike

at? Not so fast, Perry the Platypus. Don't worry,

it's not what you think. It's my special recipe

for quick hardening chocolate. Between you and

me, my popularity has plummeted to an all -time

low. Everybody loves chocolate. What if I can

recreate chocolate in my own image? Behold! The

Meltinator 6 5000! Powered by thousands of laser

pointers. It has a melting capacity of seven.

That's on a scale of one to five, so that's a

big number. Here, watch this! my harvest through

the city streets where it will be processed with

my secret ingredients to produce the most irresistible

Confection in the tri -state area Now do you

understand what you are up against Come on you

didn't get any of that you didn't get any of

that Alright folks we are three days into the

104 days of summer 104 podcasts we've seen six

total Phineas and Ferb 11 -minute cartoons. What

are your overall feelings so far in this first

season? It's a good start. Yeah, I know it gets

better. Chrissy actually sets the Phineas and

Ferb episodes to DVR, and I've got the third

dimension and the Star Wars episode DVR down.

So I mean, I know it gets a lot better. And it's

already a strong start Yeah, I mean for me there

were no vocal issues Finneas's voice is really

starting to sound like he normally would sound

I think it was just that first episode that the

rollercoaster episode where he maybe Maybe Vincent

Martella had a cold that day or maybe he I don't

know. But I mean, I haven't noticed anything

vocally from any of the voice cast that was out

of place. I think that first episode was just

a change in voice direction. It's like that's

how they wanted to start it. And then somehow,

well, maybe you should do this instead. Or maybe

he's just a little too forceful or maybe the

cadence is wrong to change it up a little bit.

We hope you enjoyed this episode of Palka and

wish you would join us next time when we will

be giving you our thoughts on the next episode

of Phineas and Ferb, which is Are You My Mummy?

and Flop Stars. For now, I am TFG1 Mike with

Michael Wilson. Thank you for listening, until

next time. But wait, there's more! Aren't you

a little young to be a podcaster? No, no I'm

not. Aren't you a little old to be watching this

cartoon show? Yes, yes I am. It's good to see

the nation's senior citizens taking an interest

in cartooning. Yes, yes it is. Yes it is. There's

not really any more, that's about it.
