About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Michael wrap up P.O.W.C.A.'s summer vacation coverage with the Phineas and Ferb series finale special, "Last Day of Summer." The hosts dive into the six-act special that attempts to serve as both a Groundhog Day parody and a farewell to the beloved show's characters. They discuss the episode's structure, the appearance (and notable absence) of various recurring characters, Doofenshmirtz's sudden redemption arc, and the extended musical finale "Curtain Call." The conversation ranges from what the episode got right—particularly the fan service in the finale song—to what they felt was missing, including Jeremy and other major characters. They also explore how the episode compares to other favorites like "Act Your Age" and debate whether this was the right way to send off the series.

Hey hey hey, it's the Chaos Queen here and you're

listening to the Geekcast Radio Network. I know

what you mean Ferb. It does seem like more than

104 days. Hello and welcome to episode 106 of

Pauka brought to you by the Geekcast Radio Network.

I am one of your hosts, TfJoe and Mike. Joining

me is Pekka and Corm. My goal today is the 106th

day of summer. And this means that it is the

day of the GCR and finds out all about Phineas

and Ferb's last day of summer. That's right,

folks. We're closing this shit out. It also means

it's been almost nine years since we started

the podcast. So Michael, are you ready to jump

on a roller coaster ride that is the podcast

organization without a cool acronym? Yes. Yes,

I am. Yes. Yes. Yes, you are. You said that so

dejectedly. Was two things I was number one.

I was waiting for the intro where I say hey,

how's it going? It happens every day here every

day without fail except every day today and then

that also I Don't know. We just started off immediately

with profanity and there's small children present.

But aside from that That's good, that's good.

Yeah, so last day of summer folks. Oh boy Whoo!

Why do we have this many wheeled objects lying

around the house? Ooh, looks like the zoo's got

a new tiger habitat. Good morning, Candice. Uh

-huh. And so begins the last day of summer. This

thing has six acts in it. These guys really liked

their specials, their act in these last few episodes

of... Shakespearean act halls And you have my

bow Mm -hmm. Yeah, no, no arrows. No, thank you

Never mind that one right over your head. So

yeah, but is it actually the last day of summer

if it lasts three months? Yeah in Phineas and

Ferb's world Yeah, kind of is kind of the last

day of summer over and over and over again Kind

of is yeah, you have to teach your groundhog

how to drive My god. Don't drive angry. Don't

drive angry. Okay, Nicolas Cage. Nicolas Cage.

It's the other guy that you would never have

anyone believe you if he stole your french fries.

Ryan Gosling? Bill Murray. Oh. If he stole your

french fries, no one would believe you. And he

would tell you so himself. He'd be eating your

french fries saying, no one's gonna believe you.

All I heard was drive angry and I'm pretty sure

that was a Nicolas cage movie. So don't drive

angry. That was right. Teaching the crown hog

kind of drive. I'm getting a confused commercial

now because I think, I mean, if they can teach

squirrels to be in pants, they can teach groundhogs

to drive. Exactly. I've seen it happen. Yes.

Squirrels and pants is that's that's what's missing

Pearls automatic two points off of this episode.

That's what's missing You know, they they managed

to make groundhogs disappear and be forgotten

from the timeline forever But what about the

squirrels? That's right. What about what about?

But about the series is most favorite rodent

What is a vermin scrolls are vermin they're more

of a squirrel squirrels aren't vermin vermin

or rats that's what rat they are a beloved forest

creature. Yes yes as i was watching this my one

thought was. What the fuck happened to jeremy.

How. He not here at all, I don't think. He's

not there at all. You know, and at the end, they

kind of had a kind of a farewell message to everybody.

And almost all the recurring, well, I don't want

to say all the recurring characters, but a lot

of the major characters showed up. If not, if

not singing, right, in a singing role, which

almost everybody was, but in a cameo, like in

the background, because there was it was all

this. I'll say Clips it was like a clip show.

I mean it was a clip in the background. Yep.

Yeah, very clippy. Yeah, very clippy So again,

as always our lovely people over at the finish

and Ferb wiki No, no as always a cast for last

day of summer Phineas Candice Ferb mom dad doofenshmirtz

monogram Norm Roger Perry, Baljeet, Buford, Isabella,

Vanessa, Melanie, who is, um, Roger's assistant.

And, uh, and additional voices done by Swampy

and Ritz O 'Brien and Dee Bradley Bay. Jeremy

is not here at all. Jeremy isn't here. Susie

isn't here. Uh, yeah. No, it's dumped him and

kicked him to the curb. Who else is going to

date her though? She's a very nice girl She's

a very neurotic girl is what I think she has

a very lengthy neck Yeah, yes. Well, that's true.

So the scene is very attractive in some places

Yeah So anyway, so aside from hey, this is groundhog

day, you know, it's funny I was just having this

conversation and I want to say Aiden my son Aiden.

We were having this conversation. We were talking

about you know, have you ever heard of jumping

the shark? You know, you know jumping the shark

is and Aiden said well jumping the shark is when

you know You you're kind of like not plausible

anymore as a series and I said well, it's kind

of like that It's it's more like when you when

you're finding your and in the waning days of

your popularity and you have to do something

very Ridiculous in order to grab back the viewers.

I said, you know, they had a show called happy

days And on happy days they had their most popular

character was named the Fonz and he was this

really cool guy and everybody was like just fully

confident in his coolness, you know and At the

end of the series basically people were not watching

it anymore. It had gone on for too many years

So they said we're we're gonna have we're gonna

have the Fonz Jump a shark. He's gonna he's gonna

ride his motorcycle over a shark tank, you know,

he's gonna jump a shark tank And that was like

considered must see TV and it was all hyped and

everyone's like, Oh, well, we don't watch the

shows so much anymore because it's a little long

in the tooth, but we're going to watch Fonzie

jump the shark. Yeah. And, but that became, you

know, the, the, the joke in that, you know, a

show jumps the shark when they're getting a little

long in the tooth and it's time to let them go

anyway. But then they go do something ridiculous.

Yeah. Yeah. So it's like. I feel like they circumvented

that by, you know, by going out on their own

terms. Yeah, they kind of did sort of. Yeah.

I don't know, I. I'm not the biggest fan of the

Groundhog Day film. I prefer I. preferred Bill

Murray in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 and

Caddyshack 2. Although those are fine movies,

but Groundhog Day is a good movie. I'm not saying

it isn't a good movie. I know what your point

is. I wasn't able to finish the conversation

we had. The conversation that we had was when

TV series tend to get older and they start running

out of ideas, right? And I think the one in particular

we're talking about was like Star Trek, pretty

much every Star Trek series. You eventually hit

that episode where you copy Groundhog Day. Every

series has a Groundhog Day. Every series has

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. And when you get to

that episode where it's like, oh, wait a minute,

it's Groundhog Day, you know you're approaching

the End the game the the end of the life cycle

for that show because it's like we've just we've

just run out of ideas Yeah Now we're gonna next

we're all gonna shrink, you know or freaky Friday

next we're all gonna trade personalities Hmm

Nobody wants this personality trust me But what

if you trade personalities with Jamie Lee Curtis,

you know just for the day I think that might

be interesting. I could I could see that. Yeah,

but yeah, no, nobody wants my personality. Let

me tell you that right now. Nobody wants. Yeah,

that's not something. Sorry. You don't get to

pick from yourself. You either get Lindsay Lohan

or Jamie Curtis. And that's it. Those are the

two you get to choose from. Yeah, no, Lindsay's

already jumped the shark a couple of times, so

I'm going to choose Jamie Lee. Yeah. She's one

of those few people that ran from Michael. Are

we all lived? All right. Well, okay. So you're

going to go with that reference. I was going

to say, are we talking trading places? Jamie

Lee Curtis? Are we talking true lies? Jamie Lee

Curtis? Cause there's huge difference between

trading places. Jamie Lee Curtis and true lies.

Jamie Lee Curtis. Yes. I don't even know how

to follow that one up. I almost went in the Sportsnigger

mail. I'll be back. I'm driving the car in the

Sportsnigger mail now. It's terrible. People

will hear this in 2025 because it is my ultimate

goal to get this podcast out before the 10th

year of the actual freaking podcast here. Sometime

before the end of 2025, yes. Oh, it will be before

the end of summer, I can guarantee you that.

Wait, do I hear Moriah Carey thawing out? Huh,

honey. At last! After 10 ,000 years, it's time

to take over the earth! Okay, Rita. Get back

in your frozen cage, Moriah Carey. Okay, Rita

Repulso. So I'm going through, I went through

a list of, uh, every once in a while I will look

up either on Google or I will do it directly

on one wikipedia .org list of films in whatever

year it is. And I pulled up 1990 because 1990

was 35 years ago. This is for our other podcast

that we do called studio 2009 in studio 2009.

We cover anything and everything in the audio

or visual medium. Basically, if you can listen

to it, if you can watch it, we'll cover it, whether

it's. Audio dramas, movies, TV shows, video games,

whatever. We'll discuss it here. Here are just

several selections that have 35th anniversaries

this year. Opportunity these are all films opportunity

knocks pretty woman home alone goes dick tracy

kindergarten cop talk about arnold wow nuns on

the run short not a tumor not a tumor Cadillac

man 40th anniversary of back to the future this

year 1985 35th anniversary of back to the future

three Days of Thunder, Ghost Dad, which nobody

really talks about Ghost Dad anymore considering

who stars in Ghost Dad and how he's in jail or

he was in jail because of his criminal activity

and how he played a TV doctor in New York. You

know, long time ago. That's right. Eating the

pudding. It's a pudding pop. Eating the pudding.

And then my wife she says to me Go ahead may

the man rest in peace But, uh, John Ritter in

problem child, problem child is 35 years old

this year. John Ritter, another one taken too

soon. Yep. Goodfellas was the last one so far

that I've written down is also 35 years old this

year. Wow. My point in saying all of this is

that, holy crap, I forgot that the last day of

summer. Was a time traveling groundhog day homage

to that movie. I don't dislike the movie groundhog

day. I just don't love it. Like everyone else

does. Okay. That's my only point. It's okay.

It's a good movie. It's a nice movie. It's a.

Groundhog day to me is like how some people feel

about be my Valentine, Charlie Brown. Or the

Easter Beagle Charlie Brown you watch it once

a year and that's it I Wouldn't say you should

watch Groundhog Day more than once a year, but

once a year is appropriate Yeah, I'm honestly

surprised we're still talking about Groundhog

Day I thought we were off on a different tangent

all together But I was, well, I had to, I had

to time my entire film list back into time. And

the fact that I, the point was I'd forgotten

that the last day of summer essentially is a

moving through time, time repeating, time looping

episode. I'm looping. There you go. That's a

time loop. And again, every series looper. That's

a good movie. I should write that down. Is it

35? See, I thought you were getting into like

actors that have been taking taken from us far

too soon and no, not including eating the pudding

because that guy can go. But no, I mean, like,

you know, actors were far too young when they

went. And my thought was my thought was, you

know, you were like, well, let's get to the point.

And I'm like, the point is hug your family because

you never know when you're going to keel over

dead. But no, the point is, oh, yeah, screw that

movie. I'm like, no, no, wait. We're still talking

about that movie. Holy cow. All right. And we

have come full circle. We are back now. Yes,

that's right. How about those songs, though?

Hey, yeah, there are songs. They I they weren't

as good as, you know, yesterday's songs, but.

There are nine total songs because one got cut

So technically there are ten songs one or some

of these aren't songs like quirky worky song

Man is not a song. It's a line. It's a line of

dialogue, you know, it's yeah, they missed an

opportunity there Did they Yeah, they missed

an opportunity there. They missed an opportunity

to have a Phineas and Ferb and Shrek crossover.

Can you imagine, can you, can you imagine Lord

Farquat and, and Doofenshmirtz on a team up for

the muffin man? That would be amazing. I'm going

to try really hard not to. Hey, I think. I think

Dan Papenmayer and John Lithgow as Doof and Lord

Farquat, that would be cool as hell. I'd like

to hear them sing together. Sing a duet. Make

it a musical. I think that would be awesome.

I think they would love that. That would be like

the highlights of each other's career. But that

being said, no, I'm not really a fan of that

particular character. But again, it's just that

one scene that I, you know, But there's no one

I'd rather go nowhere with. That's a good song.

Uh, when tomorrow is morning again, decent song.

Yep. Got to get back in time was, I mean, that

held up, that would hold up on its own actually.

Yeah. As like, uh, what's the, what's the name

of that band that did the hundreds of peaches,

millions of peaches, peaches. You really, you

really, you really want me to say the name of

that band is dead presidents. No, it's the presidents

of the United States. Okay, so that band could

sing this song plausibly and get away with it

because Because of their quirky nature, right?

The Concords could probably sing this and you

know get away with it, but it's like It's like

it's a good song It has legs curtain call time

spent together is literally just a laundry list

of the last four seasons Yeah, and hitting the

highlights and breaking the fourth wall and and

then Exposing themselves on stage to their parents,

you know who walk in the backyard and it's like

look at these China stages And you're all standing

on them and why is there a pharmacist here and

but nobody brings it up. Oh That's the other

thing that's missing. Why is there a pharmacist

here? Yes, wait But isn't that pharmacist but

no what the pharmacist is do right? Yeah. Yes.

Yeah. Yeah Wait, didn't I date you once? Okay,

this technically isn't the end of your series

but at the time That would have been the end

yeah, sure scroll scroll scroll scroll June 12,

2015, almost 10. No, holy shit. 10 years ago.

Again? All right. Yeah. Yeah. Well, June 12,

2018, 20, 2015, uh, 10, 10 days after your birthday,

uh, one of your birthdays, uh, at least one of

your, one of your. Yeah. Yeah. Somewhere in your

forties. Uh, June 12th, 2015 is when this episode

aired both on Disney channel, U S premiere and

Disney XD U S premiere. So we've had 10 years

of no outside of obviously Candice against the

universe or whatever it's called. We have had

no Phineas and Ferb. And if that's the end of

your story, you have the perfect opportunity

at the ending of your story. You've got the pharmacist

right there in the backyard. Why not say a little

something? Like why don't you just an off -handed

snide remark joke? You you're the guy with the

grody back seat or something cuz that's what

she said Why is it all grody back here? Like

that's what she said when they were on their

date like I mean Again at the end of the day.

It's not that big of a deal, but I'm thinking

in my head of oh my god This is the final episode.

We're never gonna see these characters again

type of thing and I'm thinking what should have

they thrown in To kind of like give the audience.

Every inside Easter egg kind of thing. And that

would have been something that Linda would have

finally recognized. Doof kind of thing. I don't

know. That's probably not important to the hair

there. uh, but I I just find it interesting though.

I mean overall that they have all of the main

characters with the exception of jeremy who was

snubbed in the backyard on on giant retractable

stages singing yes yeah it's like wait a minute

how did they not yeah i realize this is going

on here she comes out says who wants pie anyone

wants some pie yes yes we do Yes, yes, I do want

pie. But who doesn't want pie? After all, the

cake is a lie. The cake is a lie. It's moist

and delicious. So I feel like I feel like we're

we're missing, like, say, little points of the

episode, which is like there. There's an inator

that that makes that makes time repeat. Makes

your day repeat. It's like this isn't even the

inator that he was trying to build. There was

no there was no Like, I wanna say, was there

a reason for Perry even to show up? I mean, was

he building? Was there something evil going on?

I don't think there's anything particularly evil

going on here. So at the start of Act Two, I'm

just gonna go through the wiki. This is our last

episode for this show. Not really, but you know

what I mean. No, no, no. Ben Finshmore's evil,

a DEI. Do wakes up in his bed but hits his head

on the lamp which which is above his bed that

lamp looks like a Chandelier you would have above

your dining room table Why are you gonna lamp

right above your bed where you know, you're gonna

hit your head on it do if you know, you're six

foot two you idiot Every time he sits up. He's

gonna hit himself. Yeah Like no one wants to

wake up like that. Yeah that Yeah, yeah, you

got a point I could see that Yeah, so I'm trying

to see where The tri -governator Yeah, oh Well,

you know, there's a salient point. This is a

Vanessa episode. She shows up like every five

seconds Yeah, she basically says the same thing.

Yeah, but but the the idea there is that you

know, she's feeling a little neglected Yep. And,

and, and yet she, uh, also, you know, doesn't

want her, she doesn't want her father to be evil

because she's going to go join the good guys.

Yep. And here's something that we don't mention.

We don't mention, uh, Montgomery's son, who,

honestly, she's probably, she's probably trying

to do the internship there to, to. Yeah. Cause

they're at this, I want to say they're dating,

but not in 10 years. I hope they would be at

least. Maybe. Maybe. Well, because in 10 years,

she's she's dating for. Oh, yeah, that's true.

Yeah. Which is like, yeah, you go. That's. Yes.

Yes, yes, yes. We know, Michael, you don't like

Seth Green. We get it. We get it. You don't like

Seth Green. We get it. It's a little overplayed.

They couldn't get it. They couldn't get Seth

Green to voice either. So so. Yeah. Yeah, like

that's the other thing. Jeremy. Yeah this cast

list is awfully short for a quote unquote series

fun alley that was supposed that they thought

that they were never gonna get more episodes

and here we are ten years later at some point

this year we're getting forty more episodes of

phineas and for. I think it was the same with

act your age. in the sense that, you know, they

wanted to focus on their main characters. I understand

that, but it just doesn't, I feel more, I feel

more emotionally attached to act your age than

I do this. This feels like another day in the

life of Phineas and Ferb and their friends, except

it's missing 90 % of the rest of, there's no,

and I know you don't like this character, but

there's no Irving, there's no this, there's no

that. There's just a. Honestly, there was an

Irving in this. Huh? There was an Irving in this.

He got a flashback. In the end, he got a flashback.

He was shown. He was on the screen. He didn't

get a voice role, which honestly, probably for

the best. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, I see what

you're talking about here is, you know, could

this have been? Actually, no, this could not

have been one episode. This could not even have

been a filler episode. I think that if they had

to do this right, you'd have to make this a full

hour. And I think they did it right. I think

they hit all the right beats. There were a couple

of sections, maybe a little overblown, like being

chased by tigers in the alternate dimension.

You know, not a whole lot of explanation given

to the alternate dimension. It's just, it's Noville.

Sure. Okay. Yeah, it's a, it's a Danville. It's

the old Danville. So I already, I already, yeah,

I already read off the cast for, for last day

of summer and I'm in the age article. I'm going

to do it because I want to show the differences.

Act your age. Same main cast. Finneas Candice

for mom dad doofenshmirtz major monogram. Okay,

same cast as always Carl Perry Baljeet Buford

Isabella Vanessa Irving mrs. Garcia Shapiro Nana

Shapiro So Nana even gets in on act your age

Gretchen Addison Holly ginger teen Millie and

teen Katie and then additional voices provided

by Dan Diedrich and Mackenzie Phillips Okay So

actor age has a bigger cast. Everyone. What do

you mean everyone? Everyone. Yeah, exactly. It's

kind of like my favorite. It's kind of like one

of my favorite movies from 2010, the 18 movie

with Liam Neeson and, and, uh, uh, Rampage Jackson

and Charlo Chopley and whatever else. Uh, when

they're in the w w w w when they're flying the

tank. Um, and, uh, they load, they load up all

the cannons and the guns and they're trying to

fly the tank and they fly the tank by firing

the weapons and like fire everything. It's the

same thing. Like, and for this to be the quote

unquote series finale at the time, 10 years ago,

I don't think, I don't think they went all out.

I think they pulled their punches. I understand

wanting to get back to basics, but getting back

to basics doesn't snub Jeremy fucking Johnson.

I don't remember Jeremy being in the first episode,

but okay. I want to say that, you know, I think

that they wanted to do justice to a Groundhog

Day episode. They wanted to make this a series

finale. You know, and maybe the two were not

mutually exclusive. If we can, we'll put it that

way. You know what I mean? Like it almost feels

like this was supposed to be a double episode

based around Groundhog Day. But they also knew

that this was the last season. They found out

this was the last season. So they had to do like

curtain call time spent together. You know, they

had to make reference to this is the last day

of summer. So. You know, we got to make it count

and then over and over and over again. But I,

I, I believe that, you know, maybe, maybe these

two ideas were, like I said, we're not mutually

exclusive, but they just kind of came together

in the end because they said, wow, we need that.

We need a series finale, not just a season finale.

Yeah. And I agree with the exception of the fact

that you've spent 2007. To 2015, eight years,

you've spent eight years airing this cartoon.

And in that eight years, in those four seasons,

you've spent however many episodes that is, I'm

not looking at that number right now. Right.

With the, I don't want to say it's a sub no,

I don't, I don't want to say it's a subplot,

but I'm going to say subplot. I'm going to use

the terminology of subplot of Candice. pining

and wanting, and you've even put them together

a few times of Candace and Jeremy. And for Jeremy

not to be there at the end, because he was there

at the beginning, I'm on season one, episode

one roller coaster, he is listed in the cast.

Oh, so yeah, I was proven wrong. So no, no, it's

not about proving you wrong. I'm just I want

to get the information Look if this is the last

if this is the last episode This is the last

episode of the show so far kind of unless you

count the pocket files Well, yeah, I know I know

but I'm saying like this like that's a bonus

adventure That's a they suddenly found out that

their contract included two more episodes and

went. Ah crap. Yeah Yeah, alka files Alka files

is animal agents with Doof. It's a Doof and Schmertz

adventure without Phineas and Ferb. It's like

if Doof had his own show. It's not, it has. Talking

spinoff territory here. Yeah, exactly. It's not

really, it's Phineas and Ferb, but it's not Phineas

and Ferb because Doof end up in like the last

season of series two. Yeah. Milo Murphy. Yes.

Yeah. Yeah, which yeah, you know rev up the old

Harley there Fonzie because you know, we're gonna

We're gonna have a freaky Friday episode And

I think that's the cool thing about turning doof

into a quote -unquote good guy and I don't use

the air quotes there like Sarcastically, but

yeah, he turns into a good guy. He's a good guy

now. He can now go into other Things he can,

you know, cause our doof, the way he got to his

wanting to be a good guy is completely different

than a second dimension doof. And, and, oh, all,

all as it took second dimension doof was to just

give him back his choo choo. But backstory dissolving.

I like the way I mean, I think all characters

should have some sort of an arc, right? You know,

even if it may be a redemption story, everyone

loves that. But here it's half an episode all

the way at the end of Four Seasons in that he

finally says, oh, wait a minute, my daughter

wants me to be a good guy. And the reason why

our relationship is deteriorating isn't because

I'm a loser, it's because I'm not spending enough

time with her because I'm spending so much time

trying to be evil and I'm not really evil. It's

like, wait a minute. This should have been an

arc. This should have been, you know, a dawning

realization over time, not just, ah, crap, I'm

a terrible evil person. I really should, you

know, be a better person in an attempt to win

back my daughter. Yeah. Yeah, that makes sense.

It should have been, but that's not what it was.

It should have been hints. Yeah. Along the way.

Yep. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, honestly, he gets

everything he wants. He's, he's, you know, not

mayor of the Tri -State area, but governor of

the Tri -State area, tri -governor. He's one

-upped his brother. He's stolen his brother's

secretary. And I mean, if we had five extra seconds

to spare that weren't already being eaten up

by being chased by giant tigers in Noville, he

probably would have called his parents and they

would have told him that he was their new favorite.

Whatever language they speak. You're my new favorite

son. He would have been like, yes, everything

is kosher now and he still would have lost his

daughter. Uh, I believe is the language. You're

still standing here. You're still Steenies. But

then at the end, in the end, only then did he

see, ah, wow. It's because, because of my false

dreams of, uh, my, my attempts at being evil

when in fact, I'm, I'm just kind of not all that

evil. I'm, uh, you know just a hair's breadth

away from from doing good things already but

instead i'm doing stupid things with them and

that's masquerading as evil yep sweetie pie i'm

back that's why it took me so long who would

have thought being tri -governor would be so

involved dad i got an internship at alka so i

have to move out what but that's the opposite

of what i they're the good guys i thought for

sure now that i was tri -state governor that

we'd be okay Dad, you're totally missing the

point. You spend all of your time working on

your ridiculous innaters, and I - Well, first

of all, they're not ridiculous. Convoluted and

ultimately pointless, maybe. Oh, come on, Dad.

You build them just to exact petty revenge trying

to prove you're evil. What? I'm evil? I am evil!

No, Dad. You're basically a nice guy who's pretending

to be evil. And, you know, it seems like it's

all out of obligation to your backstory. It's

not something that truly comes from your heart.

Wow, so it's really not about the success -loser

thing. Dad, look, this ALCA internship is something

I really want to do. And I don't think this lifestyle

choice is making you happy either, is it? Wow

again. Look, all I'm saying is try something

different. Like a new -inator? No, like try to

be a good guy. A good guy? Me? I could be...

Well, I guess I could. I could be a do -gooder,

doing good. It's like, can you imagine any of

those innaters solving world hunger? You know?

Or... It was some sort of some sort of a worldwide

problem that could have been solved with with

any one of his innaters, you know, it's like,

wait a minute. You have an innater that will

teleport you anywhere you want. Really? You have

an innater that makes small food huge. Yeah,

you have an innater that fills your pants with

nickels. I mean, I don't I'm not sure how any

of these things could be used for good. I'm not

I'm not sure you know and you need like a Rodney

to you know hold the mirror up against that to

see wait a minute this guy actually wants to

destroy the world yeah Rodney actually wants

yeah yeah this guy is actually evil and if he

had you know any of any of these tools he probably

would have destroyed the world five times over

already but the fact that Doofenshmirtz can make

it a nature that works and could possibly solve

world hunger You know, or possibly solve a global

warming or, you know, there's there's a oh, there's

too many cars in the world. Well, what if what

if you could push a button and we would automatically

teleport to your destination no matter where?

Yeah, it's mind boggling that he manages to number

one, you know, take these things and try to do

something evil with them and number two. It's

not even evil, it's just it's like. I kind of,

you know, I've got to, I'm going to put a big

fat wad of gum under everyone's shoe and then

they'll be stuck to the ground and then I will

walk faster than them, you know? What? What?

I don't understand what these evil plans are.

I don't, it's not that, I mean, again, evil packaging

even to be consumed by children in a children's

TV show. I get it. But it's not evil. And at

the very end, he's like, ah, shoot, I'm not,

I'm not even good at being evil. Maybe I could,

maybe I could not be evil. Yeah. Maybe I could

be a good guy, which leads me to, I cannot believe

I'm going to reveal this just yet, but I'm looking

through the geek meter on geekcastradio .com

of our zero to five ratings with half points

and i can't believe what i'm about to rate this

finale because holy crap it's so accurate but

um okay i didn't realize there was a metric involved

i was just oh oh yeah making it over here no

no there's a yeah look there's a rubric very

carefully planned rubric okay so you know how

this works We've been doing this a long time.

I threw out a number. It's at random half the

time. I change it before we're done. Well, right.

But I'm saying like we individually watch these

episodes. We individually separate from each

other, take our notes. We never share our notes

because we don't ever want to. I've never shared

my notes with any ho any, any of my friends,

because I want our opinions to be fresh raw and

have that surprise to. to, to strive and to drive

the conversation of, Oh, really? You think that

that's your opinion? But again, the point is,

is like, I'm coming from one perspective, you're

coming from a different perspective. And sometimes

our perspectives line up. Sometimes they don't.

Sometimes we agree. Sometimes we don't agree.

And I think you're just wrong. Wow. Wow, we're

gonna go there. Okay. Oh boy Wait, wait till

we like compare our top ten. Oh That's your top

fourth song. Oh, you got to be kidding me. All

right, hold on, you know, you You realize that

you're wrong. You realize, okay We've had these

conversations before yes. Yes. We had oh boy

folks Is wrong I'm going to say this now folks,

it's probably going to be very difficult for

me to not have all 10 songs just be Vanessa songs.

I said, it's going to be difficult for me for

them not to all just be Vanessa songs. Wow. And

that's why like dancing girl is going to be number

one on the list. I can tell you that right now.

Pretty much. Uh, I don't know that for sure.

I'm kidding. But it's, but it's one of those

things where that's the, you know, we've been

doing this a long time and we've been, you know,

Most of the time we come away with like, I do

things that I want to enjoy. I look at things

in a way that, oh, I really like this or this

is what I didn't like about it. And I can sometimes

usually come objectively in the middle of like,

for example, 3 .5 on our scale is good. Uh, it's

a mixed bag, but the good stuff outweighs the

bad. There might be one amazing. Moments or element

or lots of fun moments that make the flaws easier

to swallow. They're not deal breakers, but they

do hold it back. Are you reading this from the

rubric? No, I'm reading this from our website.

Thank you very much. That's the rubric. I'll

give you a rubric cube. Rubric you the wrong

way. That's right. So, you know. and this episode

as i was watching it i think i think my favorite

part about it was the i can't believe i'm saying

this because normally i don't like this but the

time jumping the faster faster faster faster

faster we gotta go gotta go gotta go every five

seconds every five seconds yeah as time gets

shorter Yep, as time gets shorter, as time gets

shorter. Just throw the fucking wrench already

and hit the button. Throw the spoon! Okay, the

spoon. That's what it was, the spoon. Spoon,

wrench, whatever. Tool. I was afraid Daredevil

was going to pop out and deflect that because

that was a very bullseye move. Like, yes, you

can throw a spoon with deadly accuracy. That's

right. Oh, better be careful. The Hell's Kitchen

hero. It has a bone to pick with you for killing

his girlfriend. She's in the refrigerator. Poor

Karen Page. It's Electra. Oh, that too. Bullseye

killed Electra. Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah,

you know. What else about last day of summer?

Anything else? Oh my gosh, we're still talking

about that. Yeah, you know, there was muffins

involved. I thought it was funny that they're

eating muffins and then there is a love muffin

calendar. Yes, that was that was funny. I like

I like the line hugs are a healthy expression

of affection between friends. Orange related

puns for says orange related puns. And I was

like, where was that from? And then when I watched

it again, I. I got it because Phineas says, he

picks up the orange and he says, orange glad.

Then verb says orange related puns, and I'm like,

what's the orange related pun? It didn't occur

to me. He was doing the knock knock joke. Yeah.

Yes. So I mean, it was it's a clever episode.

I like the premise. I mean. I don't know about

you, but I do like Groundhog Day. Thought it

was a little on the nose, but you know it was

it was a good episode I Would still give it a

five What yeah, it's It had it had a lot of good

songs. They had a lot of verb Quotes which you

know love most episodes don't even even your

two -parters I I enjoyed it I don't know are

you leaning more toward a four point five or

four because because I was just really generous

because their last episode The middle of the

theater with a sledgehammer just like Bugs Bunny

used to say he don't know me very well, do we?

It's about the chair. Well, yeah, I mean, I get

it. You know, there are as much, but there are,

there are too many things missing for me. Yes.

I enjoyed watching it. Yes. I enjoy the overall

plot, but in analyzing it and looking at my notes

and looking back through the cast through the

stuff, the songs are great. Absolutely. But the

songs don't get. An extra point or an extra half

point because they're that great because of how.

It just feels like they didn't phone in but it

just feels like there's so much of the last.

Again going back to twenty fifteen saying the

last eight years two thousand seven twenty fifteen

just feels like the last eight years of the show.

It just feels like there's so much missing in

the quote unquote series finale. 2 .5 below average.

Bummer. 2 .5 below average. Bummer. The negatives

outweigh the positives for me. Not awful, but

there's just too much meh to recommend. Maybe

a redeeming quality or two, but overall it leaves

you wanting more. I want more out of this. That's

why it's a 2 .5 for me. I want more. There's

not enough here for me sorry it's the last episode.

You can't have any more good day sir no i don't

have a good day sir. I know i know i'm saying

yes i know i can't have any more because they're

done with the episode i'm saying out of this

specific episode. I want more. I want more out

of this here episode now. And so some of the

previous episodes that we really enjoy, like

Act Your Age, loved it, loved it. Yeah. Yeah.

Night of the Living Pharmacists really enjoyed

it. And again, it was like this episode, they

were doing a riff on zombie movies. Right. Yeah.

You know, really enjoyed it. Finison for a safe

summer. Really like that one. Not not as great,

but still a lot of fun. You're saying you liked

this one less than those. Yes. Yes. Okay, this

to me does not feel like other than the ending

Other than the fight other than the final song

where everybody's gathering together and they're

all doing the what's the Faster than I can probably

the farewell the farewell song. Yeah Curtain

call curtain call. Yeah, other than curtain call

The rest of this episode leaves me wanting more

curtain call was honestly curtain call was the

best part As far as the overall, like having

it be a send off of the series. Yeah. Call was

the best part for it being a send off of the

series, but yes, generally I would take night

of the living pharmacist. I would take lots of

me, lots of me, less of this, less of this over

this any day. Wow. All right. Maybe just a 20

minute version of curtain call, just like just

of curtain call. would have been, you know, maybe.

No, I don't need all that. It was a 10 -minute

song, I mean. Yeah, okay, yeah. I edited it out

a little bit, you know, for the whole episode.

Okay, I'm not asking for Irving. I'm not necessarily

asking for the rest of the Fireside Girls or

Mrs. Fireside or Nana Shapiro or any of that

stuff. But again, how do you not include One

of the major characters of the entire series.

One of the like, how does Candice not go insane

in this episode? Because what are the two things

that defines Candice's character? Busting your

brothers and Jeremy. Yeah, exactly. And you don't

have. one of those two things and i would argue

is stacy should have been there and i was okay

sure i agree at where stacy where stacy the stacy

purist of spoken that's right like sitting i

again i'm telling you they uh and look If somebody

comes at me in five years after we publish this

episode and say oh you're wrong or this or does

it serve the groundhog day story. Yes it does

and that's what they're trying to do there they're

trying to tell a groundhog day story but they're

kind of shoe warning this end of the season but

into the series but a grow okay sure fine whatever

but a ground okay so if that's the case. A Groundhog

Day story should not have been the series finale

of Phineas and Ferb. They should react to your

age should have been the series. No shit. You

know what would have been awesome is an act your

age with curtain call tacked onto the end. That

would have been. I agree. They actually called

out act your age in, in curtain call. They did.

Yep. Yeah. Which I thought was funny. I mean,

fourth wall breaking all over the place. Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, they did. He says, well, wait 10

years, wait 10 years. She goes, Oh, okay. Okay.

She has no idea what she's talking about, but

you know, there's a, that fourth wall there.

It's like, how would you know how, in fact, how

would you know about, how would you know about

losing your memory about that? How would you,

yeah. It's like, Oh no, no, we, we, we, you know,

we're, we're in on the joke. We get it. You know,

we, We were there, along with you, the whole

time. We're actually just actors who have been

playing our roles the whole time. We knew what

was going on. Which them calling out Act Your

Age honestly makes this episode worse. Because

if they're not supposed to remember, like, anything

that they're not supposed to remember, anything

that has already happened to them... Anything

that hasn't happened, yes. Okay, but I'm saying,

like, anything that happened to them where they

then got their memory erased? Yeah, they shouldn't.

Oh, Dan. Oh, it's funny that he says, like, yes,

Bella kissed me, but I had my memory erased.

And she goes, what? And he goes, ah, you know,

wait, just wait 10 years. You'll see. Yeah. All

right. Yeah. But, you know, it's like, wait a

minute. You should not. You're not supposed to

remember that. And also, you know, you're not

allowed to remember alternate timelines. Yeah,

no. That's not canon. No, that's not canon. But

again, it's in the service of a goodbye letter

to the fans, to the people who stuck around and

to say, you know what, we appreciate you. And,

you know, here's a reminder of all the cool things

we've done together. I just, I don't know. I

get it in the corner and listen to sad music

now. Geez. Just bringing me down, man. I just.

Okay. So we talk, we, we talk about little moments

of, of how it could, like they could have done

this or that or whatever. Yeah. How difficult

would it have been to put in Isabella or Vanessa

or anyone like specifically Vanessa, Vanessa

asking Candice, Hey, where's Jeremy? Oh, he's

working at slushy dog today. Cut to Jeremy. Here's

your order. Here's your order. Like maybe he

swapped it. No, sir. Seriously, I get it. I get

like like two seconds of anime and I know animation

is a lot of work. But how do we know? How do

we know that wasn't cut, though? I mean, maybe

it's time. We've only got 44 minutes and we got

a 10 minute finale song to get to. So. We've

only got. Time means nothing to time means nothing

to these people they can they Well again, you

know, maybe not having them be chased through

this through the streets by tigers one more time,

you know, maybe Let's let's you know cut one

missing a Piece of apparel, you know, it's like

well, we're not gonna mention Capri pants at

all You know Or something else that was missing.

I don't know You know, swatch watches, you know,

we're not going to talk about that. I think they

did cut that part, but yeah, we're going to cut

something extra. We're going to cut something

else that we could save a half a second, 30 seconds,

just long enough to see, you know, Jeremy dipping

a corn dog into the batter, you know, frying

it up like with a corn dog on his head. Oh good

at least Jeremy is in Candice against the universe

so there is that. See he comes back I'm sure

Stacey's in there too. I think she is. Stacey's

in there Jeremy will be in there. Yes she is.

I've never seen this show to be honest. I tried

watching it when it first came out I was not.

We'll get to that folks. Okay. I'm just as interested

in what happens as you I didn't I haven't I might

be a terrible fan, but You know, I did not watch

that I think that came out a couple years after

Phineas and Ferb ended and by then my kids were

older and not watching Phineas and Ferb and It

was like, oh look, they got a movie That's nice,

you know And you know started watching Hannah

Montana or something Release date August 28th,

2020, and it hit Disney Channel April 8th, 2023.

It came out in 2023? No. Oh, what are you talking

about? Candice Against the Universe, the original

release date was August 28th, 2020, but it hit

Disney Channel U .S. Premiere on TV April 8th,

2023. So it came out in theaters in 2020 or in

whatever. That was just a few years ago. Yeah.

And then it hit TV two years ago. I wonder, I've

never seen it. Geez, my kids were like 12 at

the time. In 2020, your kids were 12? Oh no,

I was going to say Aidan. Aidan was born in 2006,

so he would have been 14. Yeah, Gavin would have

been 12. Would have been 12, yeah. Yeah. So,

no, I probably wouldn't have been watching Phineas

and Ferb at the time. We used to watch way too

much Disney Channel, but I think by the time

they were 12, we were out of our Disney. You

know, 12 and 14, we were out of our Disney phase.

Yeah. Way too much Disney Channel. Watch way

too much Disney Plus now sometimes but that's

specifically for Disney Plus You know, I I was

gonna say I've been watching a lot of Disney

Plus lately, but I think it's cuz cuz Phineas

and Ferb Yeah that mmm Marvel and star. Oh man

every trailer I see for Thunderbolts. I'm kind

of excited for that Really? Yeah What's funny

is I didn't see Captain America I haven't yet.

I will. I meant to go see it and I didn't. And

I was like, it's going to come out on Disney

Plus in like a week. I'll probably go see Thunderbolts.

Maybe. I don't know. There's Andor is coming

out in a couple of weeks. I'm kind of excited

about that. I want to watch that. You know, I'm

hearing chatter about some other Marvel stuff

coming up, but. Yeah, no, I like Disney Plus.

Yeah, absolutely. I don't have it on all day.

Like, I mean. Oh, no, no, no. It's only when.

Yeah, it's only. Oh, my God. When the kids were

little, like little, little. Right. We turned

it on and it was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for eight

hours. You know, I watched eight hours of Mickey

Mouse Clubhouse and just. Well, that's when the

kids were little. I mean, they were little. Had

to distract them. Exactly. And then the kids

like get their bath and they go to bed and you

know, you're just sitting there in front of Disney

and what's on Disney? Freaking sweet life is

Zach and Cody. I'm like, holy cow. This is intriguing.

I think I'll just sit here and watch this while

I veg, you know, because like my brain is fried

from raising kids. Hey, speaking of sweet life,

have you seen Brenda song in her her new show?

No. Oh my gosh, she's in a show with Kate Hudson,

where Kate Hudson is, she like inherits the,

not so much inherits, but yeah, there's like

a, a basketball dynasty and her, her, her dad

like owned a basketball basketball team and,

and her family runs it, but then somehow or another

she ends up in charge. So she's the. the, you

know, the general manager in charge of, of everything.

And Brenda song is like her, I don't know. She's,

she's like her PR person or she's, you know,

she's always with her all the time. But the funny

thing is, is like a big thing about her personality

is she has this terrible potty mouth. So she's

always screaming profanities at the football

or the basketball players. She plays she plays

Ali Lee Ilsa's best friend and chief of staff

for the waves chief of staff There it is. That's

a show Name of the show is running point American

sports comedy series created by Elaine co and

Mindy Kaling If you were if you're if you have

small children in 2010 2012 and you grew up watching

or you know They grew up watching Sweet Life

with Zach and Cody. Those characters, right,

that you remember from when your kids were little,

they're now all grown up and they're doing adult

things like screaming profanities at basketball

players. And I just thought that was funny. So

what else? Yeah. So what else is funny? What

else is? Kate Hudson. Oh, Kate Hudson. Kate Hudson's

awesome. You know, I'm a huge Kurt Russell fan.

So, you know, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell back

in the day. That's more my speed back in the

80s. Right. You know, and then, you know, Kate

Hudson doing doing Wyatt Russell looking a lot

like his dad. I don't know if you saw Monarch,

but it was like, holy cow. No, I didn't. Oh,

man. Monarch is it's Godzilla. But the premises

in like The 60s, right? The government sends

out these researchers to research Kaiju. And

it's Wyatt Russell playing this character. And

then in the present day, you've got Kurt Russell

playing the same character. And they do this

thing like there's a young version of the character

and an old version of the character and they

do this thing where there's like a segue between

the past and the present and they like zoom in

on his face and it fades into Kurt Russell and

then they zoom back out and it's like they look

so much alike. Nice crazy. Yeah, it's it's a

fantastic series. I'm afraid you haven't seen

it. It's probably because it's on Apple. Yeah,

I don't do that. I don't. I don't do the rotten

fruit thank you the rotten fruit channel is so

good for sci -fi though yes so good for sci -fi

yeah but yeah i'd uh yeah that that's that's

a good show it's a really good show no i'm too

uh i'm too into the sports documentaries lately

because uh way back in the absolutely no excuse

for that are you talking about what so in the

um In the, uh, in the early days of the, um,

the virus, there was this thing on ESPN called

the last dance. Okay. And you don't really Mr.

Chicago. Really? I don't watch ESPN, dude. Okay.

Fine. The last dance. It's about Jordan and the

bulls and all that and everything else. And it's

10 episodes. All about all of that. Okay. I was

here for that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You

were okay. So that was in 2020 when that aired.

Yeah. And now in 2025 HBO and HBO sports and

they're doing their own documentary on my city.

They are doing it Celtics city nine episodes,

March 3rd to April 28th. All about the Boston

Celtics. So I am way too into. I'm way too into

Celtic city right now to be worried about anything.

The rotten fruit channel has on it. Oh, I mean,

like I said, if you like sci -fi, the rotten

fruit. No, I really good for sci -fi. I like

sci -fi, but yeah. I mean, there's a. Oh, criminy.

What else is good? Foundation. No, no, I'm talking

about rotten fruit. Foundation's really good.

There's a there's a social called silo. There's

a bunch of bunch of really good shows. Yep. Anyway,

yeah. Now that we're clawing our way physically

out of this rabbit rabbit hole. No, no, no, no,

no, Mr. Cutie Petootie. No, Dennis, the rogue

rabbit. No, no, no. He's missing too. He's missing

too. Clawing ourselves from the cutie patootie

hole. That sounds like a personal problem. Nope.

All right, folks. On that note, we're going to

go to a quick podcast ad break here. Some ads

and some other stuff. We'll come back to close

the show right after this. I've had enough of

you. Wakey wakey chocolate cakey. How many times

do I have to tell you that chocolate cake isn't

up and at them. Sir, since when do you sleep

in your lab coat? Since none of your business.

company will cover that. No, they won't. No,

they probably won't. Now that was an eventful

day. That was an eventful summer. What was your

favorite part, Phineas? Of the summer? Yeah,

what was your favorite thing we - Memories. Oh,

come on! No, I'm serious. We've done a lot of

great stuff. How can I choose? Yeah, remember

the time we went into space? Which time? The

time we made the ice cream, duh! And remember

the rollercoaster? All right, folks, this is

day 106 of the podcast organization without a

cool acronym. That's it. We got two more. If

you want to listen to, like, comments or something,

what do you do? Comments. Oh Stuff stuff. All

right stuff you do stuff. I'll get to that everybody.

This has been great. No, no, no Hell man, you're

screwing up the flow I was gonna say the flow

interrupted immediately because you didn't do

the instruction, right? So now we're just like

glossing over the closing not glossing over anything

yet Yeah. No, it's not the last time we still

have two more episodes and then we'd just have

to wait. So it'll be a, you know, hiatus. Uh,

but, uh, any, any final thoughts from you sir,

either on the last day of summer or anything

else you'd like to say before I run through the

closing. I don't know. My brain is stuck on clawing

my way from the cutie pootie hole. Wow. Cutie,

oh my god. No No duck in there. It just won't

Yeah, can't pull free Yeah Sucking me in on that

those people who were actually on it. 15, 16,

17 years ago. Street tweet, uh, at geek cast

radio for the network. I am at TFG and Mike,

uh, you still on Twitter or are you done with

that thing? Uh, I, I, I, you know, I'm leaning

toward no. Okay. I just I find it hard to read

lately, though. It's like the algorithm doesn't

know me anymore. It's just offering me these

inane things. And I'm just like this. Who do

you think I am exactly? I've been here 15 years.

You're offering me this. I don't understand what

our long relationship together makes you think

that I would want to watch this, you know. It's

hard. It's hard. It's hard. Life is pain. Social

media is starting to fall apart a little bit.

Thank God there aren't more coming up now. We

had that whole tract of, here's a bumble, rumble,

mastodon, lion's zord, zingfus, this, that, and

the other thing. Thank God there aren't more

social media trying to pop up on us. Twitter

Facebook and Instagram. That's pretty much all

like a blue sky I've been reading threads even

though threads is still owned by Facebook. I'm

still I Find that the content there is a little

more palatable Maybe maybe their algorithm just

hasn't gone straight to shit yet. So I don't

know. We'll see Keyword there is yet. Yeah. Yeah,

but it is meta. So you never know I like meta

I'm old. Old people like their Facebooks. Oh,

I watched. I'll have to send it to you. There's

a. I don't know. I don't know if you watch or

listen or whatever. Colin and Samir show. No,

anyway, Colin and Colin and Samir, they they

do tech stuff they do with the stuff they whatever

they interviewed Zuckerberg and part of the interview

was. them talking about how they're going to

be introducing, reintroducing, bringing back

the friends tab to Facebook. So you only will

have, you'd only see your friends stuff versus

all the others. I don't know. I haven't watched

the whole thing yet. So I'll have to watch it

eventually, but yeah. Speaking of Facebook, Facebook

.com slash keycast radio network, you know over

there and like our page on there and check out

all the stuff we post over there. We hope you

enjoyed this episode of pack. I wish you'll join

us next time. We'll be giving you our thoughts

on the alka files. One sort of final crescendo

adventure for the animal agents and the new hero.

of the OWCA Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. For now,

I am TF2 and Mike with... Judy Pavudi. Thank

you for listening. Until next time. Go search

that on Twitter. Find that algorithm. No, don't,

and stop. Suck it. Ew. But wait, there's more!

Ow. My arm. Ow. You alright? No. Ow. Fuck. So

they haven't given your report back from your

CAT scan? MRI? Your thing? Your magic ride through

the magic tube? Nope. Not unless half of these

Washington phone numbers that are spam are are

my doctors here in Illinois. Not Illinois. Indiana.

Yeah. More than corn. In Indiana. I saw something

earlier on Instagram where they're like, oh,

let's let's change the border lines of Illinois

and Indiana where they basically match this.

I'm like, what the fuck is that? So Illinois

is the northern part of the state. Indiana is

a southern part of the state. I'm like, get that

the fuck out of here. That makes that makes sense

to me, you know, because again, I associate.

The northern part of indiana as as more chicago

wish you know right right ok but my concern is

where where st louis and that divide you know

st louis st louis is all the way over there it's

not right over there it's not adjacent it's all

the way over there it's all over there. That's

that would be a problem i can't see st louis

living in the deep south. No, it's just left.

It's left. It's further left. It's not further

down, it's further left. Deep left. Yeah. Deep

left, oh my god. There's not really any more,

that's about it. Say it again. Aren't you a little

young to be a podcaster? No, no I'm not. Aren't

you a little old to be watching this cartoon

show? Yes, yes I am. It's good to see the nation's

senior citizens taking an interest in cartooning.

Yes, yes it is.
