Welcome to the latest episode of Pixels in the

Animation. I am one of your hosts, Steve, Joe,

and Mike, and joining me in this latest episode

is TV's Mr. Neil. You know what they say, all

toasters toast toast. Don't you mean all toasters

toast toads? Well that too. That's a tongue twister.

It's a CDI reference, Mike. Yeah. I dropped out

of video games by the time CDI came out. Well,

most Mario fans won't get that because it's the

bad CDI Mario game. Oh, yeah. Once Nintendo went

to the 64, they lost me. And it's not because

the 64 is a bad system. It has nothing to do

with that. I've told this story many times before.

I was born with a mild case of cerebral palsy.

that affects the whole right side of my body.

The only physical difference people can tell

is my right hand and foot are smaller than my

left hand and foot. So it forced me to play video

games one -handed. Basically, I balance the controller

on my knee and I have the bottom part of it in

my palm and I use my thumb on the buttons and

my fingers on the D -pad if you're looking at

an NES or SNES controller and once that configuration

went out the friggin window with the sixty four

i'm like yet my hand can't fit over this that's

another reason why i will never support microsoft

and console gaming because their controllers

are like the fucking grand canyon but you know

we're we're here we're back for yet another episode

of pixels in the animation and uh... boy When

I was watching these episodes that we'll cover

this week next week in the week after There are

a very few bright points in Super Mario Brothers

Super Show both for the live -action and the

animation segments and I I know I've said this

before in the show and I know you've you've warned

me about this, but it's like I thought it was

so much better as when I was a kid. I could have

sworn it was... Oh my god. It just... I can't

wait till we get to Zelda. I know Zelda's bad,

but Zelda can't be half as bad as Mario. It really

isn't. It's much better. What have you been up

to since last we talked? Well, just recording

a bunch of episodes for animation aficionados.

One key point is that episode 126, if you want

to hear me, Ben, and Pablo talk about our webcomics

as opposed to just cartoons, that's a good episode

to listen to because the entire second half of

the episode is just nothing but us talking about

webcomics and a little dirt on other people,

kind of. Great. I should already be offended

and I haven't even heard the dance. No, we don't

talk about you at all. Right. It's all about

webcomic people. Oh, OK. Thank God I can't draw

for crap. Oh man, alright, so we are gonna get

into some episodes, but I have to, and this is

something I will bring up throughout the episode,

I have to ask, are these people that are producing

the cartoons, are they even looking at the first

or second game? Nope. Two very different desert

lands happen Not maybe not this week, but I know

the fact that we've been to at least in the last

seven episodes of the podcast We've already been

to some sort of desert land and now later in

this episode We'll have El Desertette or El Presidentes

desert or some stupid Quick draw McGraw reference.

I don't know It just I like this cartoon when

it references the actual game worlds. When it

references, you know, the actual game enemies,

not just making up crap. Anything else you want

to say before we get into this? Well, the thing

about the deserts is I've noticed that, yeah,

they're in two completely different desert settings.

Like, sometimes they're in, like, in the... in

the what what what's called the Kalahari Desert

and then other other times are in like uh the

Sierra and they don't actually use them by calling

by that name but you can tell because in one

setting of cactuses and another setting you'll

have the pyramids and everything so it's like

yeah it's kind of obvious where they're taking

the the the references from yeah so crazy all

right so buckle up folks because it's going to

be one hell of a bumpy ride Cooper's love, number

621. The people of Pasta Land were throwing us

a celebration, because we'd chased off creepy

old King Cooper. We didn't realize how soon he'd

be back. That's my soft spot. Dame's crying.

So she thinks I'm her baby. Well, I can go along

with a gag. Okay, stop crying, I'm sorry. Turn

off the waterworks. Mother. my big fat mouth.

Now we'll go home and surprise your father. Oh,

gruesome, I have a little surprise for you. First

up is Mario and the Red Baron Koopa. Oh My god

Snoopy did it so much better. Oh, I was gonna

make a Snoopy reference Sorry beat you to it

and The live -action segment was gorilla my dreams.

Hey, where's bugs bunny when you need him? Oh

god. Yeah Oh, this is such a I I know I've seen

this storyline like a thousand times before but

it's it's one of these One of the one of the

characters is dressed as a gorilla then he walks

off stage and a real gorilla shows up You know,

I think I've seen this in at least three three

stooges episodes I have the exact same note,

but I wanted to make the Bugs Bunny reference

first I I actually wrote that down. I was like,

hey, wait a second. Where are the three stooges?

They stop by later Yes, yes, they do actually.

I don't know who was voicing them, but yes, they

do. Oh Boy, um so gorilla my dreams the live

-action segment is basically Mario dressing up

in a blue version of his outfit with little bunny

Tails all over like little cotton tails all over

the damn thing That's all blue and Luigi says

I have a killer Gorilla costume and of course

as they go to get their costumes the radio announcer

Which that's something else that'll come up in

a couple weeks on the show I don't know if you

saw that that picture I tagged you that that

post I tagged you in on Facebook you never know

I didn't have time Yeah So basically when they

look away it is a live gorilla has escaped the

zoo and somehow escaping the Brooklyn Zoo the

first place you go to is the Mario Brothers plumbing

okay I get it it's it's supposed to happen this

way because of what how the plot is and whatever

else but still that's a little fishy to me that

the gorilla automatically ends up at their place

But yeah, we have that going on. And in the animation,

Mario and the Red Bear and Koopa, Mario and Luigi

take to the skies to stop Koopa and Lakitu from

taking over Pasta Land. The featured song was

a Tom Cruise classic, Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins.

But thankfully it was omitted because it's a

re -recorded song and... The song that was recorded

for this was terrible so what they replaced it

with I've been waiting for this episode in particular

because what they what they replaced it what

with was a an instrumental version of a song

called from a song that was from a Super Mario

Brothers 3 episode called life's rough and You

can tell because they're like dogs barking in

the song and oh No, yep, that's what that is

How could they have oh I see yeah The replacement

is after... I'm thinking in chronological terms

of how the hell did they get the Mario 3 song

before Mario 3 is even out, but I see what you're

saying as far as the DVD. The replacement for

the DVD, yeah. Right, yeah, wow. See, folks,

I'm really optimistic about Mario 3, and Neil

is very pessimistic about it. He's of the opinion

that it gets worse when we get to the Koopa Kids.

I don't know. After seeing this week's batch

of episodes, it's hard to see how Super Mario

3 could be worse. Well, I will say that life

is rough when the King and Luigi get turned into

dogs. Even though I am a dog person, I do not

like that episode. Yeah, that's kind of a bad

episode. the very bad episode so so yeah we've

got um mario yeah snoopy did it so much better

and i hate when they go like if you're gonna

put these characters if you're gonna put these

video game characters in a setting and make them

different if you're gonna make him the red baron

koopa call him the red fucking baron don't just

sit there And at the end of the episode, this

has happened before and I've mentioned this,

where they basically break the fourth wall and

return to their original names or their... I

don't... One of my biggest gripes about this

series with the cartoons is that they always,

whenever they go into a story mode, they then

at the end will break the fourth wall and return

it to the story mode of, hey, this is the Mushroom

Kingdom. It's kind of like when you die in Mario

3, it takes you back to the overworld. I don't...

Well, I obviously enjoy that in the game. I don't

like that kind of storytelling in cartoons. It

just... No. The overall plot, it's alright. I'm

getting sick of Postal Land. I'm just... I'm

already 400 and something pounds ladies and gentlemen

at six foot one, but it's like every time I watch

the show and every time I see food or Mario mention

food, I feel like I'm getting fatter. Without

even eating or drinking anything at all. Well,

it could have been worse I mean you got you got

Koopa as the Red Baron. He could have delivered

pizza at the end of the episode That's so wrong,

dude I do like that the key to is in this episode.

I knew he was in at least one. Yeah, that was

pretty cool My cloud! You destroyed my cloud!

Clouds can spring a leak? What is that, a balloon?

Yeah, apparently so. Oh my god. Alright, let's

get and see if we can find some fire flowers,

holy crap. Uh oh! Spaghetti ala spaini! I smell

a koopa! Worse, I see a koopa! Alright the fire

flowers, I don't know if you have anything interesting

or good to say about this one the only thing

I wrote down was The animation in the episode.

It's just it's pretty awesome. You know the whole

All of the snow effects look decent the some

of the animations on the characters look good

I really enjoyed the the animation quality overall

although when it started snowing and really really

hard I Felt myself in Kongoland and dealing with

the snow levels of Rare's best Donkey Kong game

ever. We don't need you going on a Rare tangent,

but I just had to point that out when I saw the

snow get worse and worse. I'm like, hey, this

is kind of like Donkey Kong country. You know,

I don't really have any positive points on this

episode other than what I said. Kind of cool

to see a rare Super Mario Bros. character actually

appear in one of the episodes. And Spiney's too.

Spiney's are in it, obviously. Yeah, Spiney.

Now, Spiney's, they first appeared in the first

game or the second game? They first appeared

in the first game. Super Mario Bros. 1 and Super

Mario Bros. 2 have a completely different villain

cast. So no characters from the two games overlap

other than the Mario Brothers themselves. Right,

right. Yeah, that's true. I just wasn't sure.

You know, we've already seen the Tooies, so I

figured at some point, I don't know. All right,

let's go stomp on some Goombas. It's going to

be like an earthquake in here. Oh no, Snow! It's

the death of us all! Are you fucking kidding

me? They made Snow the villain of this episode?

Are you kidding me? Okay, sure, it's Koopa with

a weather machine, but Jesus Christ, those mushroom

people, sure, okay, I get, you know, hyperthermia

and whatever else, but holy crap, they made Snow

out to be the worst thing ever, and it wasn't

even yellow or brown. Christ. Just shoot me now.

17 minutes. What the fuck kind of timeline is

that for a deadline, Koopa? Come on. The length

of an episode. Yeah. Hello, I am Sam Shalam.

Really? Seriously? They're going to do the whole...

Well, Grant and Aladdin didn't happen yet, but

that's the only like that that carpet keeper

from the very beginning of Aladdin is the oh

Yeah, I just remember that character. I kind

of but this happened before that though, but

it's like, you know You look at this now and

you look at Sam Shalam. He's every Indian racial

type, you know That's on the Indian continent,

I mean it just Look the carpet has become invisible

Toad you are such a dumbass. Are you fucking

kidding me? Who the fuck falls through the sky?

Upside down that's going to land on their heads

as an invisible fucking flying fucking carpet.

Oh my oh my god Toad apparently doesn't have

any edumacation hell hillbillies in Western in

the mountains of Western, Kentucky are smarter

than fucking toad Please tell me I'd not steal

all your thunder I Just don't I just don't know

what to say about this episode. It's the the

entire plot is Koopa wants to make people miserable

with a storm cloud and in the meantime, he and

Lakitu are just lounging on a cloud, getting

some rays. And I'm like, so his entire plot is

to make things inconvenient for people. His plot

is to make it so that people have to go sledding.

It's like, well, could you... This is the point

where I have to invoke the Dr. Evil clause. It's

like, well, you basically made a device that

kind of solves global warming. So instead of

being evil, why don't you just be productive?

It's kind of like how Dr. Evil's group made Starbucks.

And they're like, well, we're much more successful

actually providing a service to people other

than. instead of being evil. And he's like, no,

we must be evil. And so I didn't after a while.

I'm like, what is the motivation here? And on

a side note, did you notice that the that the

satellite, the the precipitation satellite had

a refrigerator as like the key component? Yes.

It is so lame. Did you notice the vent on it

almost looked like it was going to form ice trays?

without like ice cubes without the ice tray oh

my god who are these people okay i know that

captain lewin and danny wells had a lot of stuff

to do with the live action segments because that's

them on camera but who are i've tried to watch

for the writers names and stuff but it's look

there's only one person person's name that i

recognize off of any of the episodes in the next

three weeks of the podcast episode uh... jay

larry carroll the only name i recognized as a

writer on this show everybody else no clue and

half the time it's the same guy you said it was

before i was just one guy in a room It's like

writing out bad fortunes for a Chinese food restaurant.

I get it was the late 80s, early 90s, and I know

what was going on at that time and whatever else,

but we were still in that transition of getting

out of the whole episodic thing for television,

and we were getting into the point of actually

telling a story. And I just wish to this point

in this series where... I think this is episode

30 of the series. We're 30 episodes out of 52

into this thing and the only bits of continuity

I can even see are every single time Mario mentions

or thinks or talks or points or actually eats

food. Food is the only continuity point in this

entire friggin show. Oh my god, let's um, let's

move on to the next episode before our brains

just melt Up next is the unzappables for the

me the animated cartoon and Because the live

-action segment was cut from the DVD thing all

as I had was the cartoon But apparently the live

-action segment was George Washington slept here

Wow, that's a pretty old corpse for sleeping

in your Brooklyn basement apartment. Yeah, I

Tried to track down this episode. What I found

was a Swedish double bit apparently This is impossible

to find anywhere. From what I could ascertain,

the plot is that Mario has kind of a scheme going.

He's got this cot all laid out in the basement.

He has a sign up that says, George Washington

slept here. And then it cuts to a dream sequence

where George Washington comes and rerates them.

And now remember, this is a dream sequence at

this point. So Mario Luigi tried to try to hypnotize

George Washington and falling asleep so they

could basically truthfully say that he slept

there. Only they fall asleep. And then it goes

into another dream sequence where they're on

the boat crossing the river. And and then it

and then it breaks. And like George Washington

was never there. And then this guy shows up at

the door. Same actor. And they're like, are you

Washington? And he's like, yes. George Washington?

No, Ralph Washington. And then, ha ha ha, the

episode's over. And if I had to guess, this actor,

I forgot to write down his name, is some kind

of a historical figure impersonator, and I'm

guessing that maybe the problem was that he might

have a copyright on his performances, and he

might not have, he might have... Demanded a little

extra money for for them to put that on the DVD.

It's probably why I didn't make it if I had to

guess It would have had to have been something

to do with the actor because you can't I Don't

think George Washington and his likeness are

copywritten. I mean, we've seen it. No. Yeah.

Yeah I mean I and obviously, you know, we talked

about this off air But it's I thought it was

originally because of what the song is and it's

Michael Jackson beaten it all over the place

but but but but but but but but but but but but

but but but but but but but but but but but but

but You know, really, really awesome. I thought

the plot was great. I thought everything about

it was just so much better than Red Baron. Well,

it was a better episode, I'll give it that. I

like the whole concept of the stool pigeon, although

I don't know why they used a tweeter for that,

because there is a pigeon character in Super

Mario 2. The only thing I gotta say is that Koopa

seemed just a little bit stupider than usual,

because... The plot involves these hats that

the villains have and if they put the hats on

then you can throw mushrooms at them all day

and it doesn't hurt them. So at some point Mario

and company break into his Koopa Club and they

find the hats and they put them on and they go,

oh no, there's Mario and he's wearing our hats,

attack him. And it's like, you just established

five minutes ago. Yeah, that's a plot hole. Yeah,

right there. All right, let's get onto the fire

flowers All right for the fire flowers I I Really

love when cartoons do the old gangster stuff.

I think it's really cool. A lot of them have

done it really well. Um Not just this cartoon

but any most of any cartoons that I enjoy I like

it when they do episodes like this and I honestly

think What really got me into seeing cartoons

do this is Not bug what is it dumb but bugs and

thugs that's what it is. Um, shut up shit net

Bugs versus the the bank robin mobsters Yeah,

I just love those and that's kind of where fan

-cooping -tastic equals fan -fucking -tastic

Did you notice the 20s style music they use it's

not your average Mario music they Use some sort

of I guess I don't want to say free -range but

free rights music in this that's very 1920s gangster

type of stuff. I thought that was cool. It might

have been music from other cartoons It might

have been. Deke has been known to do that. Yeah.

But it still, it had that like, you know, when

you watch an episode of whatever show that's

doing a 20s homage or a flashback and it has

that, you know, that signature jazz kind of stuff.

Yeah. This has that and I really like that. Plus

Gene Shelapin, you know, he did almost all the

Deke stuff. So yeah, he probably had some stock.

Music just laying around for them to use. Oh,

I'm sure I'm sure a stool pigeon. I see what

they did there Because he was sitting on a stool

at the time But yeah, no I I love this episode

this is probably the only episode that out of

this this podcasts Recording that I did not write

any bad things down about it. It's just an overall

damn good episode I love the fact that Koopa

has a picture of himself Above his chair What

about you what did you like about this one nice

use of unusual characters for the for the episode

Pigeon tweeter astro and goombas all showed up

and of course there was the burro in there that

Had a mustache on a bowtie for some reason. It's

kind of weird seeing a male birdo now Yeah After

seeing the female birdo. Yeah But again isn't

that's the yeah, but the birdo was for the the

games though, right? Yeah Yeah, so I'm not necessarily

all that put off to it. And if anyone hears a

whimpering dog in the background, it's my mom's

dog. She's sleeping and she's chasing some cat

or something. I don't know. We're gonna move

on to the Goombas after this. Goodie goodies

will never get in here Let's stop on some goombas

as I said before I didn't have any written down

But I did like I will say when I first saw the

name of this episode. I'm like wait a second

It's a couple years before we'll see a zapper

in a Nintendo cartoon What the hell is this unzappable

thing and I didn't realize it until I actually

watched. Oh, it's an untouchables reference and

I think I think that was a a censor's decision

because Obviously it couldn't be untouchable,

so what are you going to replace it with? The

unshootables? It's like no matter what you put

in there, it's like all these violent things

that you can't do with them. It's like unzappable

sounds like the most tame name replacement you

could have. So that's probably what happened.

And plus they still had the zapper by then because

it was Mario. Mario 1 was still packaged with

Duck Hunt. I was waiting for the dog to run through.

Or just pop up on the screen and just kind of

shudder when you miss a duck. I still wish I

could shoot that dog. Oh, stop. Dog was cool.

Is there anything you didn't like about this

one? Nothing that really offended me. It's just

the one continuity glitch I mentioned. Where

they established the hat thing and then later...

Hoopa forgets that the hats make them invulnerable.

But there's also a scene where this is, again,

Deke, maybe not communicating with some of their

departments, like the background painting. Princess

Peach points at a sign. She goes, look, there's

the hat checkroom. And the painting, you can

clearly see, it says coat checkroom. And I'm

like, OK. I mean I know what they were going

for but it's like if you point that at a sign

you probably read this what the sign says oh

well never mind yeah all right we are going to

move on to the next episode and ladies and gentlemen

this might kill the pixels in the animation after

we do this I don't know oh yeah oh god Now I'm

here to train you bozos for a special secret

government mission! So don't just stand there!

Drop it! Give me ten! Hold it, Mary! I'll take

it easy! Excuse me, uh, sir, Sergeant. Sir? No

disrespect, but how do we really know that you

are here on a government secret mission? I'll

read you my top secret government orders! I told

you, they're top secret. I believe you, sir.

Now, I'm gonna give you a little test to see

if you can be trusted with top government securities.

Can you hear that, Luigi? The sergeant's gonna

give us a test to see if we're trustworthy. Now

the whole neighborhood knows you failed the test.

Get down and give me ten, or I'll start kicking

some butt. I thought that you've explained that

clearly, scary person. You sure have a way with

words, Sergeant, sir! All right, up next is caught

in a draft, which is the live -action segment.

Maury and Luigi discover they've been drafted

by the military, which guess what that means,

Neil? The return of Sergeant Slaughter. Yeah.

But there's something about that. Did you kind

of notice that if you reverse the order of this

episode and the other episode, it... It kind

of works the other way around, because they don't

seem to know who Sergeant Slaughter is in this

episode. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, if you reverse the

original episode. Yeah, these were probably recorded

on the same day. Probably, yeah. Honestly, ladies

and gentlemen, Cotton Draft is the only good

thing about this. Neil and I both agree. Bad

Rap, which is the animation segment, is the single...

I don't care what comes after this. I don't care

if I... I don't think we will ever have to do

an on -air retraction. Bad Rap is the single

worst episode of this entire series. Cuba takes

over rap land and hypnotizes everyone into giving

him their money. The featured song is I Got You,

I Feel Good by James Brown. Oh man. And there's

actually a James Brown character. Oh my god.

This episode like. I literally, ladies and gentlemen,

I don't get headaches all that often from watching

stuff that I generally enjoy. This episode gave

me the biggest fucking migraine for five hours

after I watched it. This episode, Bad Rap is

probably the most apt name for an episode I've

ever seen because indeed that's what you get.

You get 15 minutes of bad rap. 15 minutes? Is

that all it was? It felt like it was an hour

and a fucking half. Every line! They stretched

out every single line that they said. And what

I mean by when they stretched it out is, I mean,

it felt like every verse lasted five minutes.

This was worse than Buster Beats the Rap, which

is one of the worst Tiny Toons episodes. And

this is a shorter cartoon. That's sad right there.

That's, that's very, very sad. Um, we're basically

gonna just skip Fire Flowers. I don't even know

if we're gonna have any Goombas, cause I only

wrote down one thing for that, but it's like...

This episode is so bad that other than the aw

- The live -action segment was the only awesome

thing in this entire thing. There are just absolutely

no words for how bad, as in god -awful, as in,

I... And oh my god, sometimes does this. this

thing was so bad I want to go punch a puppy and

it's like seriously it's like oh my god it's

so hard oh god let's just get to the goombas

holy crap so you know how for the longest time

for like 30 years there was no Richard Donner

cut of Superman 2 and when Bryan Singer decided

to basically homage Richard Donner they got together

and found all the old this episode Need the the

the film for this episode whatever this was shot

on however. This was done However, however, this

was like, I don't know if it was real to read

I don't I don't I don't know all the technique

technicalities of it But however, this is done

if it's on film it needs to be burned I Just

say something cuz I can't just no words for me.

I Cannot and I'm serious folks We're not I'm

not saying this just because I want to give this

episode a bad review this episode if this episode

gave me a migraine for five hours after I watched

it It physically hurt me to watch this episode

and I'm not just saying that for dramatic effect

at all. It did I've got two things on this episode

First of all, you know how I keep saying that

like a lot of these episodes are just like really

quickie writes like, oh let's throw Mario in

Jack and the Beanstalk, let's throw Mario in

this and that and the other thing. This is an

episode that defies that theory because in order

to do a musical episode, and yes I am going to

use musical episode in quotation marks because

it's rap. When you do an episode like this, you

have to spend a lot more time at it because you're

writing verses and you're timing the animation

to the music and everything. That means that

they put a lot of effort into this episode. They

spent more time making an extremely bad episode

of Super Mario Bros. and that just burns my ass

right there. Plus, you have these two, like,

Fat Rapper characters. Now, Mike, you remember

in Super Mario Bros., the original game, how

there were these two Fat Rapper guys who helped

you out? No, because they weren't there. Like,

who are these characters? Why are they here?

I think they were going for... I don't necessarily

know if they were going for Heavy D, but they

were going for something... Because rap in the

80s and the late 80s was just, like... Coming

up it was just now and you know in the 80s is

where the rap music genre really kind of took

off You know stuff like Public Enemy and Snoop

Dogg and all that stuff and whatever so I think

that they were kind of going for a whole Genre

there, but what the hell does James Brown have

to do with rap. I don't remember. Yeah, he's

he was he jazz or he's soul or what he's r &b

and Back on the rapper guys, it's like they didn't

even have names in the episode. So I just kind

of For for for um, I was gonna call them Tommy

true hugger and co -emcee Yeah Yeah, yeah, I

don't know what what James Brown had anything

to do with this episode why he was there or anything

and I noticed that they used a lot of James Brown

James Brown audio Snippets throughout the episode

just thrown into the music. I'm like is that

even legal cuz that that's definitely his voice

Yeah, I I don't know man. I I don't always I

know at this point We can't that there cannot

be a worse episode than this And as you said

they actually had to work at this and it still

was a shitty episode They worked at it in order

to make this a shitty episode That's kind of

really scary folks. It really is All right, let's

move on hopefully We can give this next episode

some better marks we were making our way through

the endless tracks of cactus and sand of el desert

land we were looking for the legendary masked

hero zero hoping he would help us in our fight

against koopa and finally up today is the mark

of zero hey wait what's a megaman villain doing

here he's not really a villain he's kind of well

well he starts yeah He starts out as a villain,

but then he becomes a hero, but um the live -action

segment was called toupee and in this one inspector

clean from the board of sanitation shows up to

uh basically look around the the apartment that

with the basement apartment where they live and

he's he's about to evict them and then uh basically

when he's leaning down in one shot radiator comes

out and steals his toupee and then the the the

hairy clog puppet you see in an earlier episode

attaches to his scalp and restores his hair and

he decides to forget all of the grievances and

give the Mario Brothers a clean bill of health

and he leaves and everything. That's the episode.

Yeah, pretty much. As far as the... Oh no. I

know why that song was replaced. As far as the

Mark of Zero, which I'm surprised they didn't

use. It might not have been out yet. Hold that

one to Marco. A Zoro -esque hero saves Mario's

group from Koopa. Mario and Luigi then have to

save the mysterious hero from Koopa themselves.

The featured song is La Bamba. Can I just put

in... Queek's Draw and El Cabong, please. Can

I just... Can we just review El Quick Draw cartoons,

please? Cabong! I'll do the thinning around here.

Here, Papa Louie. Oh my god. Okay. Thank you,

everybody. A little time and a little advancement

here. I'm sorry. This is the worst way of showing

a... heroin in a cartoon and I don't mean the

white stuff zero is a female spoiler alert I

I don't honestly have even though I was watching

this episode I was also in the middle of feeding

my dog at the time I didn't even realize until

halfway through that the zero character got ca

- I thought they just forgot about the zero character

altogether I didn't even realize the damn - I

had to watch the - sadly I had to watch this

episode twice to make sure I watched it properly

the first time around I didn't even realize the

zero character getting captioned by Koopa I thought

they just kinda kick the thing off a cliff and

honestly it looks like oh god I'll get to that

but the plot of this is You know what would have

made this episode so much better? If it was Antonio

Banderas. Any thoughts on the plot for Zero?

Yeah, it was kind of flaky. I mean, well, what

I thought was kind of weird is that they, I thought

that they had forgotten about the restaurant

girl because I understood the plot was that Zero

got captured, but then Zero never said anything

and I didn't, I was like, well that's kind of

weird. Yeah, and then surprised the end it turns

out to be the restaurant girl. I'm like, oh it's

like it's like Metroid Sort of except Metroid

did it cooler and I got under notes for this

one. I got like a big goose egg. I got a zero

just because It's not it's not really a bad episode,

but it's not great. I just didn't I I didn't

know what to say I just watched it was like,

yeah, that was an episode Well, since you don't

have any notes, I will... Well, we're just gonna

go through it. I'm not even gonna do breaks on

this one. For Fireflowers, the only thing I thought

was funny and awesome and fun was tortillas as

weapons. That was cool. I like that. For Goombas...

Yes, Toad, you and your big mouth. I swear. I

would rather be stuck in a room with Sprite.

all day long, and I don't mean the beverage,

I mean the fairy from Zu - like, Sprite, even

though she's annoying, is all crap. She's less

annoying than Toad. Oh my god. I would rather

be stuck in a room with the fairy from - from,

uh, oh god, I made a joke here and now I can't

remember the name of the game. It's, uh, Ocarina

of Time. Hey, listen! Yeah. Who is much more

annoying than Sprite. Um, Zero looks like a rejected

DuckTales design. Yeah, that was a really bad

character design. That's probably what I should

have written down. Now that I'm thinking about

it, and sadly I have the image of the character

in my head in the costume in the very beginning

of the episode, you know who he looks like in

that Z - that technically - Because the character's

name is Zero, instead of putting a Z on the costume,

they put an actual Zero. Yes. technically I could

be the mark of oh if you really you know poor

old fellow left his mark I don't know but looking

at the character again and looking at how droopy

at times the costume looked on him reminds me

of one of the magic Koopas from Super Mario World

really those wizards in the castles yeah how

they have the droop down I don't know like their

robe yeah the robe type of thing Give okay in

you know air quotes here give mouser the signal

So this means that you rip out a traffic light

and toss it halfway around the world Yeah, I

Mean that was a little too on the nose for oh

My god is so so bad just This episode is just

there It's not as It's not as bad as As the last

episode we talked about and it is not as bad

as You know some other stuff, but It just It

just doesn't It just didn't do it maybe it's

cuz I don't Really have an affinity for Zorro

at all like for me with Zorro the best part about

Zoro is um oh crap oh okay I know what it is

the scarlet pumpernickel that's that's my Zoro

right there scarlet pumpernickel is my Zoro but

uh all right we're gonna take a quick ad break

you're going to hear some weird um audio, some

ads, and some other stuff. And we'll be back

with final ratings and final thoughts after this.

And if you disagree with us, you could be a guest

on a future show. Uh, I guess I'll give it a

one. It was okay, I guess, but it was... didn't

really care for the story. The story was bad.

Toad is consistently getting on my nerves. The

fact that Koopa only gives him 17 minutes is

a deadline. Even if you're gonna make a joke

about the cartoon length, still, you should actually

stick to the story you're telling. But I did

really enjoy the animation, so I'll give it a

1 out of 5, Starman, for that. The Unzappables,

what do you give it? I'll give it a 2. It was

a bit better. Not quite up to some of the other

episodes, like the one from a few weeks ago that

I said should have been the season ender. I thought

that was much better than this. It was okay.

I like I like the the villain choices because

it was a little different than what you would

normally see Yeah Well, we're on two very different

levels this for me is just like honor majesty

sewer service I loved everything about this episode

so I get to give it a five and Ladies and gentlemen

if you've been listening to us for the past seven

weeks You know Neil and I do not give out a lot

of I think I've only given two Maybe three But

we don't give out fours and fives all that often

here, because I'm sorry. This show, it's not

even the fact that it hasn't held up over the

last 20, 25, 30 years. It's the fact that even

back then, if people were doing, if there was

podcasting back in 90, 91, whenever after the

show ended, they would still probably be saying

the same stuff we're saying, because it's in

general. Super show the cartoons are just bad,

but this one was a bright spot Neil has a special

rating for this next episode I'm just gonna ask

can I just give it like a zero infinity because

bad rap is the single worst episode of the entire

series Yes, my rating I'm going to give it the

coveted Poison mushroom because this episode

is so bad that I can't even give it a zero. I'm

just going for the poison mushroom Because let

me tell you how bad this was. I got up during

the episode and walked away. And then to top

it off, at the end of the episode, they danced

to the theme song from the beginning of the cartoon.

And I came running back into the room thinking

that the video had restarted. I was like, no,

no, not again. No, it was just them replaying

the theme song. See, I thought with... with bad

rap i honestly thought when they said yeah we've

created your own rap song for you i thought they

were going to do something different than just

reuse the theme song show but apparently not

but yeah no bad rap zero zero zero zero zero

zero infinity um what about um mark of zero gonna

give it a one Yeah, I'm right there with you

the story was kind of Like I said the the tortilla

as a weapon that was kind of fun, but the story

just kind of drags and it's like Really? That's

what they're doing So alright anything you want

to pimp out before I run through the closing
