Hey, this is Captain N, and you are listening

to Pixels in the Animation. Behold, the Ultimate

Warp Zone! Welcome to the latest episode of Pixels

in the Animation. I am one of your hosts, TFJ

and Mike, and joining me in this pixelated journey

is TV's Mr. Deal. The morning sun has vanquished

the horrible night. God damn it, I screwed that

up. Take two. The morning sun has vanquished

the horrible night. Yes. Today we close out the

Captain N and the Game Master reviews as we recap

the adventures in Video Land before becoming

tanooki -suited podcasters in the adventures

of Super Mario Bros. 3. Alright, so ladies and

gentlemen, we are here to talk about the overall

series of Captain N. How it started off very

well. with a few minor nitpicks or annoyances

mostly having to do with Simon Belmont and his

idiocracy. At least on my end. Neil not liking

a lot of the game modifications. They had a piss

poor copy of Game Genie. God, I miss those days.

Oh, Game Genie. um so we're gonna break this

down for everybody and it's gonna be i think

four categories four or five categories so basically

we're gonna talk about favorite moments least

favorite moments favorite characters least favorite

characters episodes we love and episodes we hate

um and that's pretty much it um Overall, now

that we've gone through this series, is your,

you know, do you feel like one of those, this

is your brain, this is your brain on drugs commercials?

A little bit. Really? Seriously? If you throw

the egg to the floor. Maybe it's just because

I only so recently watched season three and I'm

still kind of in a wreck. Although I do appreciate

the fact that they were really short episodes

and I only had to watch like maybe 30 minutes

and I was like oh I was like wow I still have

a couple hours before we have to record the show

what do I do I'll watch cinematic Titanic Oh

God overall my thoughts on the series are I like

most of the characters. I know everyone says

that Mega Man's voice is annoying as crap, and

at times it is. I think what's more annoying

about this Mega Man is him always saying mega

with every mega -fucking -thing. Um, you know,

but I was more annoyed in this series as far

as speech impediments with Kid Icarus. Oh, God.

The Mother Brinicus or Kev - Kevin a kiss or

princess Lana a kiss and like that was more annoying

to me than mega man's voice But the most annoying

thing of all had to have been the bumbling idiot.

That was Simon Belmont I Wish she would have

just stayed Donkey Kong jr. It was yeah Okay

Outside of your recently scarred brain from season

3, what are your overall thoughts on the series?

It's still a good series to watch, I think. I

think kids under the age of 10, I guess, would

watch it and find some enjoyment. I'm not sure

about anyone older. I think we enjoy it because

this is a cartoon that we watched. But people

nowadays would be like, well, this isn't even

relevant to the type of video games I play. So

it's like Mega Man is barely recognizable unless

you're just a real retro game fanatic. Kid Icarus

is, if it wasn't for the new game, you wouldn't

even be relevant today. And Simon Belmont is,

nowadays he looks like such a, they've really

prettied him up. they they've given him like

long flowing hair like he doesn't even look like

a pretty boy like he does in this cartoon i mean

this modern day simon looks kind of uh i i don't

have a word for it but it's they really they've

kind of made him look like konan but he's got

like really effeminate features in his face Is

he sparkly? No, he's not sparkly, I'll say that.

He's more masculine than anything in the Twilight

Saga. Far more masculine. That's a good thing.

Yeah, I mean, I grew up, this cartoon came out

in what, 90? Yeah, 1991. So I was 10 or 11, you

know, so I grew up with this and I was you know

Everybody in the you know from well, honestly

85 on was Nintendo junkies unless you had the

unfortunate You know parents that got you a Sega

Master System Like me The sad thing is I think

that was what I point to that when we were at

Child World in Anover, Massachusetts. Oh my god,

I miss that toy store so much. Anyway, um, but

no, you know, I grew up with this, you know,

the best things about this series were the fact

that they brought the world of Zelda from the...

the Zelda series into it. And I really, because

I'm a huge Tetris fanatic, I love the Tetris

episodes. I don't care how bad or how much the

first step trouble with Tetris didn't really

have anything to do with the game. I still like

the episode. So we're going to take a quick break

and we're going to come back with all those segments

I just mentioned after this. It was a dark day

in Videoland. For seven years, Mother Brain's

minions have laid siege on the Palace of Power.

We're too strong for them! You! You're too strong

for him, Mother Brain! What's so funny, Eggplant

Wizard? Who, me? Nothing, Mother Brain. Nothing's

funny at all. That's right! Especially for those

poor souls in the Palace of Power. It won't be

long before I... Beautiful goddess that I am,

become queen of video land! As Mother Brain plots

the palace's doom, the beautiful Princess Lana

is filled with despair. I'm afraid we can't hold

out much longer. Kid Icarus, your loyalty has

never diminished. Just doing my duty, Yo -Heinicus.

Mega Man, you fought bravely and well. A pleasure

to serve you, Your Worship. Simon. You've been

our anchor in a long and terrible storm. I know.

I thank you all for your efforts. I only wish

it didn't have to end this way. Do not give up

hope yet, Princess. Simon, let go of me. There

are powers beyond those of which you are familiar.

The legend of Videoland foretells of a young

warrior from another land. I shall warp into

our world and lead you to victory. He is Captain

N, the Game Master. Behold, the ultimate warp

zone! Megaman? And you must be Captain N. You

guys aren't real. You're just so many computer

bytes in my game cartridges. Wow, they're real.

Looks like the ultimate war brought us the ultimate

win. I'm Princess Lana. I'm in love. I'm Kevin.

Well, you're in Videoland. The Ultimate Warp

Zone brought you here. You mean like Warp Zone

4 and Super Mario Brothers? Something like that.

The legend foretold of your coming to help restore

freedom to our world. That's why it gave you

that super power pad and zapper. Me restore freedom

to Videoland? Hey, I don't even have my driver's

license yet. And this is just a toy. This can't

be happening to me. Sure is, Kabinicus. It's

happened to all of us. If you cannot help us,

Mother Brain will conquer all video land. And

our freedom will be lost forever. Hey, you got

the wrong guy. I'm going home. Come on, Dig.

There, there. Don't worry, Princess. I'll save

video land. My brain brain tells me you should

be listening to pixels of the animation because

if you are All right, so starting it off with

with favorite moments for me Honestly anytime

season one or season two Kevin use the power

pattern zapper because Okay, sure most of us

as kids had didn't and well I wouldn't say most

kids had Nintendos back then, but a lot of kids

I knew had Nintendo. My cousins had a Nintendo

Entertainment System. And I always loved playing

Duck Hunt. It's a damn shame we could never shoot

that stupid dog. But watching Kevin, even though

he was an older teenager, watching a kid use

a power pad and zapper the way he did was simply

amazing. um anything to do with hyrule and those

crossovers absolutely love those um anytime simon

got exactly what it was coming to him because

i just loathe simon belmont in this series um

and the fact that kevin never had to beg for

a kiss i also like a lot of the comedic moments

with uh king hippo and the enic plant wizard

those were Really really awesome, right? What

about you? I liked whenever they had like a really

good video game Easter egg that you know You

really wouldn't catch unless you were just like

such a nerd like the fact that what they summoned

Kevin with was the power glove That little pedestal

that they kind of the camera kind of swings around

it in the opening If you squint you could see

that it is in fact the power glove and they never

mentioned it by name and it's just kind of like

this of course the controller was terrible you

should never use the power glove I mean it's

if you've ever if anyone out there has ever used

one if you think it's broken no that's really

how it works which is to say it didn't yeah I

liked I like the bumbling characters I like King

Hippo and Eggplant Wizard especially with the

goopy voices the egg plant wizard especially

he's like yeah he didn't do it and and i love

simon belmont just because he is such an ass

i mean it's kind of like it's kind of like attitude

era of vince mcmahon i mean not not not on the

level of like a villainhood by any chance but

but the fact that you're you're made to hate

him and you love to see him get his come up and

you love to see him get a weapon so that's what

that character is for that's why i love it and

i About the power pad and Zapper. I've always

kind of Kind of suspected that like maybe Duke

was supposed to be like the standing for the

duck hunt dog, but I'm not sure No No Duke was

not never used him. No Come on now. They would

actually have to make Duke's animation design

Similar to the duck hunt dog. Yeah, but they

never really were on model with anyway Mega Man

didn't look like the game character and Simon

certainly didn't look like his video game counterpart

so I don't know but it always kind of bug me

that they called the D pad the power pad because

the power pad was actually the floor mat but

that's such a minor nitpick I only mention it

now because I never mentioned it earlier I also

love, I really do love the music. The music in

season one was absolutely amazing. They need

to come out with a soundtrack. They really do.

If it even still exists. Saban and Levi did it,

so Saban, I think he's still alive, isn't he?

Yeah, if Levi did it, then he... should still

have the masters I mean he kept all that all

those uh those opening themes for like all the

shows he worked on it's on his website so imagine

he must have some masters somewhere yeah but

you know that's one thing I will say so far we've

gone through three cartoon series of the Nintendo

era Super Show Zelda and now Captain N and regardless

of how bad Super Show's episodes were, I still

want soundtracks for that, Zelda, and this. I

really, really do. That would be so amazing.

It really, really would. Alright, so time for

least favorite moments. Whenever Simon got his

way, like whenever anybody really just gave him

a break, I really didn't care for that because

I don't like Simon. And the only other one I

really wrote down was the entirety of it. Even

Totally Tentacized had a couple of animation

flubs, but the entirety of the bad animation

in Season 3. I mean, it takes center stage. And

the fact that it's... Could have sworn see and

maybe I swore that season 3 was longer because

they packaged it with Mario world I could have

sworn That those episodes were longer for a Captain

N. Oh My god, what about you for least favorite

moments? Oh the debut of Gameboy? all of season

3 and any speech impediment that was in the in

the theme of mega Icarus oh my god I was ready

to throttle Kid Icarus throughout the very first

episode yeah no I agree with that on Kid Icarus

mega man with his emphysema and his I mean why

did they have to go with that I mean Hey, at

least they brought in, um, Eddie and who's the

other little digi thing that's with Mega Man?

Eddie is the energy can kid. Yeah. Um, who's

the other one? Well, there's, there's Beat the

Bird and... No, no, no, no. He, it's, it's a

character that looks like Eddie, but isn't Eddie.

Because Eddie's the one that always brought him

the energy tanks, but there was somebody else

always with Dr. Light. I don't remember. i don't

remember either all right favorite characters

for me it's not a long list but it's not a short

list either captain n and lana obviously hippo

eggplant wizard mayor squaresly i liked him he

was cool um mega man was slightly less annoying

than kid Icarus uh so i put him on ones i liked

um and dr wiley um For me, Mother Brain was,

she was alright, but she was a little too creepy

for me. I don't dislike, like when we get to

least favorite, she's not one of my least favorite

characters, but she just didn't make the cut

either way. What about you for favorite characters?

Simon Belmont. Eggplant Wizard and King Keppo,

obviously, because who doesn't like those two

characters? Yeah. I actually liked Mother Brain.

I thought she was funny. I kind of like that

she that they put her on tank treads every now

and then she kind of looked like a new toyed

man Let's see That might be the extent of it.

I mean, I don't I'm counting characters that

I really like them again any characters I didn't

mention it doesn't mean that I necessarily hate

them. It's just that These are really my tops

Yeah, also on my tops are I mean, we can't make

this list and not mention them. Link and Zelda.

I know it was only three crossovers, but still,

you know. So, yeah. All right, least favorite

characters? Kid Icarus and Simon Belmont. I also

don't like Lyle. I don't like that they had to

throw in, even though I loved it because it got

us the Tetris, I don't like that they had to

throw in that she had a missing brother. That's

a plot device that, you know, she had a missing

brother, her father was missing, they never solved

it with her father before the series ended. So

King Charles is just... I'm surviving in the

mirror world. I don't know, what about you for

least favorites? See, Kid Icarus and Mega Man

for sure. Game Boy. Game okay, how many episodes

was gameboy actually and not that many actually

I'm surprised I he started in season two and

then By the end of season two going into season

three. He pretty much vanished for a lot of the

time Yeah, I think what happened was that they

were pressured to put him in and a lot of times

when you have writers that really want to kind

of Continue with the types of episodes they they

want to write though They'll put the kind of

shitty character in for a couple of episodes,

then they'll just neglect to put them into the

rest of the season. So I think that's what happened.

In fact, there was an episode where Game Boy

was basically told to stay home. It's like, here,

you keep the lights on at the Palace of Power.

We're going to have an adventure. And I'm like,

yes, take that, Game Boy. All right episodes

we love for me the premiere Kevin and video land

that was actually awesome obviously potion of

power Having a ball Even though it's zombies

and I love the zombies just because it's paperboy.

I love the paperboy episode Totally tetrisized

and trouble with tetris. And I gotta say, it's

probably because it's Welker doing the sound

effects and the vocal effects. I love Game Boy's

debut in Game Boy. Sure, the character is annoying

as he goes along, but his premiere was pretty

cool because that episode, I believe that was

the episode they went to Burger Time and that

was awesome. Come on. What about you for ones

you loved or liked or however you want to say

it mr. And mrs. Mother brain Seriously, that

was awesome. Oh my god, that was creepy That's

the episode where Simon raid fell under a spell

and was gonna marry mother brain and that's that's

the episode with the line that like we keep quoting

I didn't do it the eggplant wizard. Yeah that's

why you know uh... all know don't compare on

the earth all uh... really surprised they didn't

rip that off actually let's see uh... simon the

eight man uh... you know i'm i'm kind of stumbling

river like some of these episode names but uh...

uh... Those are those were really the two that

it really stood out to me. I think I know that

there were a couple others that were Pretty good.

I obviously the Zelda ones were pretty good.

Especially I think the second one was Was the

best the first one with where they brought Ganon

back was not nearly as good as I remember it

Yeah, obviously and I'm gonna look at season

three because there's nothing there Well, yeah,

like I said, Totally Tetrisized is the only one

that I kind of give a pass to for Season 3, but

you're right. Season 3 is pretty much in the

episodes that we hate. Yeah, you're right. You

know, for the second episode of Zelda, actually,

yeah, in having a ball, that was just hilarious

with the two of them, because I guess that was

the thing with Potion of Power. You know, Quest

for Potion of Power. Sure, it's the return of

Ganon. Sure, they have to set up the rivalry

between Link and Kevin before they become friends.

I mean, it's basically, you know, Batman versus

Superman, except in video game terms, because

then they eventually become friends. What I love

is later and having a ball when they both come

up to each other. I you look ridiculous. So do

you? When they're in the costumes, I loved it

when That was almost I think I mentioned this

before that was almost a callback to one of the

Zelda episodes where he was dressed up like a

ridiculous costume But yeah, what I love about

having a ball was that the orange girl kick line

that eggplant wizard was in and Just just the

fact that it was one of these classic plots where

like the bumbling idiots take over and I know

I've seen it in so many other cartoons but it

never ceases to amuse me and then once Zelda

gets all three Triforces back she goes from being

weakened to being like omnipotent and and vengeful

she's like get out of my kingdom I thought that

I thought that like sudden turn where she just

becomes like she becomes like maniacal In like

a flash. I thought that was hilarious She went

over 9 ,000. Oh, no For episodes we hate I really

don't like a lot of the Donkey Kong episodes

The Castlevania episodes maybe it's cuz I don't

have a connection to the games at like I don't

remember playing a single Castlevania game ever.

I maybe have played like the beginning stage

of Super Castlevania, but other than that, I

don't remember ever playing the Castlevania games.

And this version of Simon, he's a little too

involved with himself for me. So and then Like

I said, outside I've totally tetrisized everything

in Season 3. It's just so bad. I don't know how

you can have one fairly decent good episode out

of seven. And I really thought that, as I said

earlier, that I thought that Season 3 was longer

than seven episodes. That's all. all right we

are going to take a quick break we're going to

come back with file thoughts well really quick

i wanted to say that i had i didn't like uh...

three men and a dragon i didn't like gameboy

and i did not like one mother brain rules was

a great time to get up so it's i think others

in the evening Yeah, I can't even count when

mother brain rules is a good or bad Well, I wouldn't

count it as a good episode but I can't even count

that as a bad episode because I don't even remember

seeing it Yeah, well, I know I think I said I

can't even count it as an episode because yeah

It's a clip show and it's a poorly put -together

clip show on both versions. It's a poorly put

-together clip show Alright, we're going to take

a quick break. We're going to come back with

brief final thoughts and then we're going to

preview the next series for Pixels and the animation

after this. I am Call Game Boy. I am programmed

to play games. Hyrule calling the Palace of Power.

We are in need of a hero. Simon Belmont, vampire

hunter, at your service, your loveliness. Not

only am I tall, blonde and handsome, I'm quick

in the draw. Light on my feet. Very impressive

hero, Belmont, but actually I was looking for

Captain Anne. Did somebody call my name? Oh,

wow, you're a princess! Zelda! Is something wrong?

Nothing we can't handle, Lana. With a little

help from your Captain N. I live to help beautiful

princesses. You never bow like that for me. Bye

or leave, your highness. Be off with you, my

captain. But be home in time for dinner. Okay,

Game Boy, you can go. Don't blow a microchip.

Uh, not this time, fella. Someone has to help

Lana hold down the fort. Yes, some of us have

more important things to do than running off

to play hero. Simon, what are you doing in that

plant? Uh, pruning the leaves, of course. Kevin,

Hyrule is an exciting world, but it's also dangerous.

Please, be careful. Aren't I always? This is

awesome! Me! Meeting my favorite video hero.

You're a real video legend where I come from,

Link. Hey, what happened to your leg? Oh, it's

nothing. Pulled a muscle dodging boomerangs.

Goes with the territory, you know. Yeah. So,

Captain N, is this the famous Zapper I've heard

so much about? The one and only. But hey, call

me Kevin. All my friends do. Hmm you two heroes

can pat yourselves on the back some other time.

We have important business Oh, yeah, right Gannon

Gannon. I thought you wiped him out for good

So did I but we just heard a rumor that someone's

trying to bring him back Wow, you got any clues

only one that they're searching for a magic potion

that will restore his power We've got to find

it first All right So we are gonna preview the

next series here on pixels the animation and

we are heading back to the Mushroom Kingdom to

review every single episode of the 26 episode

long The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 King

Koopa is back and he brought something that is

most deadly his seven koopa kids now Neil explain

to myself and the rest of the listeners why the

hell that in the games they are one name and

in the cartoon they are other names? Well, because

when they were producing this show Super Mario

Bros. 3 had not come out yet. I think the cartoon

and the video game kind of came out around the

same time, but during production they didn't

have the names finalized, so they didn't know

what they were going to be, so Deep kind of came

up with their own names. Now the names that are

in the game, They're all named after musicians.

So you have Lemmy, who's named after Lemmy from

Motorhead. Wendy O. Cooper is named after Wendy

O. Williams. The most obvious one is Ludwig von

Cooper, which is obviously Beethoven. Beethoven,

yeah. Roy Cooper is Roy Orbison. Morton Cooper

Jr., I guess that's Robert, or not Robert Downey,

Morton Downey Jr., who we probably, You probably

remember him from having that talk show, but

I guess he was a crooner. And I've never heard

him sing, but I guess he was. But Iggy is named

after Iggy Pop. And that leaves Larry. And for

the longest time, I couldn't figure out who Larry

was named after. And I figured out it's actually

Larry Fine of The Three Stooges, because Larry

Fine was originally a comedy violinist. So all

seven Koopa Kids are named after musicians. Interesting.

Yes. Oh boy. Yeah, and in the actual series Larry

is Cheatsy, Roy is Bully, Cootie Pie is Wendy,

Big Mouth is Morton, Kookie is Ludwig, and Hip

is Lemmy and hop is Iggy. Oh My god One thing

I know like when I for I haven't watched this

series since the original DVDs came out from

Shadow Factory When I watched it Even as it well,

of course as a kid I wasn't like super nerd for

voice acting back then as far as who did what

voice But now as I'm older and I am I've seen

this series since I've been into, you know, into

finding out who does what voice, and I still

cannot believe Hip and Hop are terror -strong.

Other cast members for the kids, you have...

You have James Rankin as cheatsy Dan Hennessy

is bully Tabitha st. Germain as Cootie pie. Oh

my god. It's Isn't she also pinky pie and my

little pony friendship is magic I think Anyway,

yep, she's rarity Anyway Let's see here you have

Gordon Mastin as Big Mouth and Michael Stark

as Kooky I can't I honestly cannot wait to get

into this series because I Remember it being

better than Super Show. Oh, it is better. Although

sadly Captain Lou and Danny Wells are not a part

of this Yeah, you're right. It's Walker Boone

and Tony Rosato as Mario and Luigi respectively.

A lot of people seem to think that they're better,

but I don't really like them. I'm not saying

that they're bad. I just said I really liked

Danny Wells and Captain Lou in the roles. I like

Danny Wells as Luigi. I did like Captain Lou,

but Super Show as a kid, it was It was a blur

by the time this came out. And I really dug Walker

Boone's Mario. I'm not saying it's better than

Captain Loose or vice versa, but I really dug

it. I thought it was cool. And I think because

it's a new generation at this point, I mean,

it's Super Mario 3, you have... raccoon tails,

you have tanooki suits, you have frog suits,

you have hammer suits. That was by far one of

the coolest things ever, turning them into the

Hammer Brothers. Yeah. Except that power -up.

You know, it was so rare in the game and, you

know, you'd get it and you'd have it for like

10 seconds and you get hit and you're like, god

damn it. Yeah, pretty much. Because you never

see it again. I think it's only in Pipeland,

isn't it? It's you I think you get it I think

the only yeah, I think you're right the only

power block where you can get it is in the pipeline,

but you can get it in like Certain mushroom houses,

especially in in the ice world you can get it.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah Yeah, I I

loved Mario 3 and Mario 3 the game is really

where He's really where the game genie came in

to play a lot. Oh, yeah There was lots of game

juni genie abuse on that game Oh, yeah, because

you didn't need to worry about where the hammer

suit was. You could just have them You could

have the hammer suit in world one one Pretty

much which was total overkill. Yeah, I know right

All right, that's gonna do it. Thank you for
