About this Episode

Five podcasters dive into Marvel's The Avengers, examining Loki's role as villain, the balance of plot versus character moments, the film's commitment to comic-book aesthetics over grittier realism, and how it compares to other team-up approaches in superhero cinema. They discuss standout performances from Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner, debate 3D versus IMAX versus 2D viewing formats, and consider what it would take for DC to build toward a Justice League film.

Hello and welcome to the first special episode

of movie weekend reviews 2012 comic book movie

extravaganza Which is brought to you by the geek

cast radio network and audible .com I am one

of your hosty of Joan Mike and joining me is

Steve Megatron. Hello. Hello Optimus solo. Hello.

Yes, sir Movie revolt. Hello. Good day and the

booth ninja. Hello Hello trying to remember when

we When was he on one of our shows to you? I

don't remember. I was I was on a GCR Yeah, I

remember that I just don't remember which one

was a Transformers one and it was one of the

ones about why current TV is bad Oh, that's right.

That's right. Yeah long time ago. Yes So we are

here to essentially talk about Marvel's the Avengers

But before we do that, we obviously have to talk

about other stuff. So why don't we go around

the room and say what each of you has been doing

this week as far as movies, music, TV, whatever.

Steve, what have you been up to? Well, of course,

securing different sponsorships and, of course,

working on some future plans for the site, which

will be unveiled next month. What about you,

Kevin? What have you been up to? Let's see, I'm

doing some podcast recording. Obviously we're

doing Mass Mayhem. Just recorded an episode of

Tune Beyond with you. Got a lot of Behind the

Voice actor stuff going on. Really trying to

hammer out the movie section and get every movie

ever made basically animated wise done. We're

getting real close. And we're also prepping for

our second season of Act Your Voice Out. Which

some people will be participating in that are

in this record. about it because well you could

it's only a matter of weeks before I get to judge

Steve yes hey I still know I'm gonna do better

in some mods yes so I have that going for me

we'll see I haven't heard anybody's yet obviously

watching a lot of the Avengers actually you know

so the Avengers I went back and watched the old

ultimate cartoons the first and second one and

some other Marvel movies just kind of Give a

better idea of you know, I figured watching those

and give me a better idea of where I See the

Avengers sit fitting in and all the Marvel film.

So I saw first class again Saw Captain America

Iron Man, you know all the major Marvel movies

and besides that, you know, not much First class

really doesn't fit since that's Fox. I mean that

really has no bearing on on the Marvel Marvel

It's not within Iron Man, Iron Man 2 or Hulk.

The reason I watched X -Men First Class because

of the team dynamic and how well it handled that

aspect compared to like how Avengers did. So

that's kind of when I went back and rewatched

that because after watching Avengers was kind

of like, wow, I want to watch it again, but I

couldn't right away. So I went with the next

best thing, which was First Class. I want to

see something with a smaller budget, too. Yeah.

And Mike, what have you been up to? Well, I pretty

much did what everybody else did, I think, which

is trying to re -watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe

movies. And I also went and watched all the commentary

tracks for all that stuff so I could see if I

was missing anything or full insights there.

Watched all the behind the scenes crap because

I've been really bored when I've not been at

work. And I can't seem to make myself play any

video games lately, so I've just been staring

at my TV so I I also found time to See the Avengers

three times twice twice in 2d and once in 3d

IMAX so which was epic Sure Because of the IMAX

just just say no to 3d yeah, yeah, just say no

to 3d We'll get into the three. Yeah. Yeah, but

the IMAX part was great. Yes. Yes a Couple buddies

of mine David Duvall over at toyworldorder .com

They actually they both live in Illinois and

they went to something Shut the hell up they

went to some all -day thing where one of the

cinemas was showing all of the movies He was

doing that. Yeah, and my theater did that too

in Lansing That must have been awesome to be

able to it was like 60 bucks 40 bucks Something

something like that. Yeah, it was no but I mean

like 60 bucks for for six movies. That's not

bad I mean, you know Well, that's time. Well,

that's also more than well I don't know how much

NCG charged for it, but that would be more expensive

than if you just saw those movies normally at

NCG Yeah movies usually only five bucks for me.

So that would be expensive for me. Yeah Well,

I mean, here in Louisville, for that crappy 3D

shit, it's $8 .75 per film. For non -3D, it's

$6 .75. There's that two extra dollars we need

to bring up. Yeah, exactly. And me, I've just

been podcasting as usual and watching Avengers.

Oh my God, I should have never went on opening

day. I swear to God. You just hate people. No,

no, no, no, it's not even that. No, no, no, it's

not even that. May 4th was Oaks Day here in Louisville

because May 5th was Kentucky Derby. So Louisville

actually made something on May 4th besides Star

Wars Day? Yes. What's wrong with your city? It's

not my city. I don't claim it. I just live here.

Anyway, I didn't real - I completely forgot about

Derby and didn't realize when I went into the

theater, there's like... like 20 adults and like

50 kids. Did they all have riding crops? Oh my

god, no. Wasn't that kind of adult movie, thank

you very much. But it's like, normally I will

go in the middle of the day because I know no

one is going to be at the theater I go to. And

it's just more peaceful that way. But there's

like people running all over the place, everything

else, people won't shut up during the movie.

People were actually running in the theater?

Yes. Wow. Your theater sucks. I'm not. Yes it

does. Come on T -Bob. Fuck you. Shut up. Alright,

so we're going to head to the trailer and then

we're going to come back. War has started. And

we are hopelessly outgunned. Director Fury, I

think it's time. You're here with a mission,

sir? Trying to get me back in the world? Trying

to save it. Doctor, we need you to come in. What

if I say no? I'll persuade you. What are you

asking me to do? It's called the Avengers Initiative.

I thought I didn't qualify. Apparently I'm...

What is it? Volatile? Self -obsessed? And don't

play well with others. I think we need to time

out. Such lost creatures to defend you. You have

made me very desperate. We're not a team. We're

a time bomb. nothing we were ever trained for.

Guys, I'm bringing the party to you. Before we

get into Avengers, we have to talk about the

other five or six or however many there are Marvel

movies that happened before it. What? Five. Five,

six, whatever. Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible

Hulk. Thor. Captain America. Oh yeah, Captain

America. Right, yeah. I loved Iron Man. I thought

it was one of the best comic book movies at the

time in 2008. This was before it released, before

The Dark Knight Rises. But I mean, at least for

Marvel comic book movies, I thought it was one

of the better ones that they had ever done. Unlike

a lot of people, I really enjoyed Iron Man 2,

simply because I thought I kept seeing references

to the old 90s cartoon to it. in it so you're

not alone with liking iron man too i think it

gets a lot of bad rap for being bogged down with

the shield stuff yeah but i i enjoyed it i can

i find it highly watchable so thor uh thor was

essentially just padme in a marvel movie to me

Thor and the Incredible Hulk are more so characters

that don't stand well on their own like Superman.

Yeah, they need a Ensemble cast in order to function

properly whereas Captain American Iron Man can

function by themselves Well, I mean, you know

and people can correct me wrong Correct me if

I'm wrong here and on you know, once this is

published but essentially Hulk is just Bruce

Banner or David Banner, whatever the fuck he's

called this in this iteration You know, it's

just him trying to find a cure for himself and

That's really all it is. Yeah. Yeah abominations

in there. And if you watch that crappies 90 cartoon,

there's the leader. Oh my god I've been watching

episodes of that and my brain fucking hurts But

I mean Hulk there really isn't unless he is teamed

up There really isn't much you can do with that

story Well, I think the problem with the Hulk

and a lot of people have been saying this is

that the first two movies it's all about Ben

contain and control and He's You never get to

see him just go ape shit, which is what the Hulk

is Yeah, and you can't really show how powerful

he is without having weaker people around like

quote -unquote weaker people around him, right?

And Captain America, I absolutely loved Captain

America. I thought it was great. Of course, I

kept seeing Two -Face in there. Two -Face without

his makeup. Only you would draw that reference.

I'm probably going to get slapped for this, but

I actually have seen all of those except for

the Incredible Hulk. That's OK. You're not missing

anything. I've never liked Hulk as a character.

Maybe I do now after this movie. But I've never

been interested in seeing anything that had the

Hulk in it. So I miss that one. So I can't judge

that one. But I like Thor better than most people

do. But I still think it's the lowest out of

the five. But I didn't have as many problems

as a lot of people did. I liked both Iron Man's.

I actually can't really separate those two. To

me, they're on par with each other. Right. But

for me, it's easy that. In my opinion Captain

America was the best out of the out of the five

Yeah, what about you Dan? Um my what I think

is the strongest should probably be Iron Man.

I think that kind of Revolutionized comics book

movies in a lot of ways like it showed a minor

character can actually carry a bigger movie and

kind of wasn't for the success of Iron Man, we

may never even have the Avengers. My least favorite

is probably Iron Man 2. The reason being, I enjoyed

it. I don't think it's a bad movie. I just think

the second half, it gets really bogged down,

like we mentioned with the shield stuff. But

overall, I think Tony Stark, just his character

in that, I think they wanted to do kind of like

the demon in the bottle storyline, but they never

went all the way with it. I enjoyed Thor. I think

it's a hard movie to sell. I'm a fan of the Thor

character and I think the character actually

has a lot to him if he's given if he's in the

right hands. I think Kenneth Branagh did his

best as possible selling that character to the

general audience because he's a tough sell. It's

like combining, you know, Lord of the Rings with

Star Wars. And it's tough. And overall, overall,

I thought he did a decent job with that. But

Incredible Hulk, I think that was a fun ride.

Ignorance performance They cut they did a lot

of throwbacks to the old TV series But like you

mentioned the Hulk is it is a minor like the

character is not that complex. It can be no It

can be but it wasn't yeah, it's basically the

doctor and Jekyll mister, you know, mr. Hyde

storyline and it just Overall that it's hard.

It's a hard struggle to get and it can be done.

Well, like like Planet Hulk I think it's probably

one of the best Hope stories ever told and I

think that would make a great movie not cartoon

because I tried that and that did not work at

all but I think he's a character that can I'll

get like Thor they're tough cells and you needed

those movies in order to make the Avengers but

Right. They're not as good as Iron Man. And I

think cap is really great as well It's like the

Raiders of the Lost Ark meets, you know comic

book movie and I thought that was That and Iron

Man are like right next to each other in my book.

Yeah What about you Steve? Well, first of all,

I think Iron Man the first film is by far the

strongest out of the five Followed closely by

Captain America The Incredible Hulk I did not

care much for it or its portrayal whereas this

film it's obviously polar opposite Same thing

with Thor. I just I tried watching that movie

and it put me to sleep Suffice it to say I don't

particularly care for either one of those characters.

So that's probably why I didn't care for the

films Captain America I thought was really well

done as far as being in its you know, World War

two timeline and then bringing it to modern -day

and then Iron Man 2 granted it does have a lot

of shield stuff in it, but I still think it's

It's still a good enough film and definitely

helps bring you into the Avengers movie. Yeah.

But I'd have to say that Iron Man is by far the

strongest out of the five. What about you, Mike?

Well, I have to I have to go with the Iron Man

being the strongest of them for me. And I, Iron

Man 2 is is is right up there. I mean, I the

part that people hate with which is the shield

part and like the just him tinkering around with

his dad's stuff. And I think I found that interesting

because it's layered with a whole bunch of stuff.

And it really strengthens what goes on. The Incredible

Hulk, I liked it, but it's the weakest of all

of them. I like Edward Norton. That's actually

one of the knocks I had against the Avengers

early on was when they didn't bring Edward Norton

back. I understand all the politics and stuff

that went on behind the scenes and stuff like

that, but it really... It was like one strike

against the movie from the get -go for me And

then I kind of felt when they started revealing

stuff for Thor and for Captain America I never

had a problem with like the cast or the directors

or anything like that except for Captain America's

director But the I felt like the fact that Marvel

was gonna start cramming movies They wanted to

try and cram two movies in before the Avengers

I felt like that to me put me in a weird spot

for those movies because they were being rushed

and it kind of shows they didn't have marvel

went for like the they lowballed everything across

the board for thor and captain america probably

because they were going to be hard sells for

for the audience to to uh grasp onto and they

needed they wanted to make money on them uh as

such i think thor feels a little small The whole

the movie as a whole especially the stuff in

Asgard like yeah the Asgard just feels small

to me. I don't I don't know why Yeah, I know

I was like this feels really tiny and you know

I think he did a really good job and the rainbow

bridge isn't as hokey as it could have been It

definitely doesn't look like it does in the book

in the movie I'll give him that Captain America

I think suffered from Budgetary constraints as

well, especially getting into like the end of

the movie but having just rewatched Captain America,

there's like a a plot hole that I can't really

figure out and I just kind of let it go because

hey It's a comic book movie, but I didn't really

want to do that. I felt guilty doing that. Yeah

That and Thor and Captain America were also post

-converted into 3d, which I hate So I had to

go out of I had to go out of my way to see them

in 2d which bothers me when I have to do that

So and I and I did as was Avengers yeah, and

I did try my girlfriend for our anniversary actually

bought me the 2d 3d blu -ray combo for Thor and

Captain America we tried to watch both of them

in 3d and We immediately switched it over to

the 2d because it just it was awful Yeah, we

should ever do post production 3d No, no, I don't

know if Captain America is really a tough sell

though No, well, okay. Well, I'm when I say tough

sell I mean for the rest of the world Because

the reason why actually around the world is actually

titled the first Avenger and then Captain America

It was only released as Captain America the first

Avenger here in the u .s. Makes sense because

I Think that actually they did end up just calling

it Captain America the first Avenger everywhere

though Yeah, they did it everywhere. They thought

they originally planned to call it just the first

Avenger, but they figured, well, he's going to

be in the Avenger, so we need to get the name

brand out there now. So they ended up changing

it and kept Captain America the first Avenger.

I still think there was a little worry about

because America is not on everyone's happy list.

Yeah, so, you know, it's kind of it's kind of

like one of those we want to release a movie

But we still want to be able to turn a profit

plus they were trying to do two movies at once

which they hadn't really done before But they

they work and I the nitpicks I have with Captain

America are tiny there they're more they're more

just like funny Like laugh at him in a mystery

science theater kind of way. Yeah, then Okay,

just as an example I'll try not make this too

long in and in the in the third act when he's

like running through the hangar And he's trying

to catch the jet There's a scene where he's running

Then he's swinging and then he's running again

like they were missing scenes Like it was just

edited wrong edited wrong because he's running

and then he's swinging and they never show him

not so like Leaving the the rope and like landing.

It's just running swinging running And it just

feels really that edit just felt really jarring

to me So and I couldn't help but laugh at it

and I laugh at it every time I see it and It's

just kind of like well, you know, they're running

out of money. They cut some scenes and let them

on the floor Whatever, but you know the movie

worked. It was funny. I like Chris Evans Yeah,

I thought he totally is completely stepped out

of the Johnny Storm Human Torch Shadow, I mean

that's he's That that was one of my skepticisms

when he was announced as being Steve Rogers.

Captain America was like, but wait, he's already

the Human Torch. How the hell are they going

to do that? But they pulled it off really well.

The funny thing about that for me, it was him

and the losers that made me think that he could

be Steve Rogers. And it was mainly the scene

where he's playing the package delivery boy.

Don't know why I can see like little scenes like

that. I'm like, okay, I he can be Captain America

I think the thing for me with Hulk with Incredible

Hulk specifically is They They used Edward Norton

as Bruce Banner But they used Lou Ferrigno as

the face of the Hulk. Don't get me wrong. I love

the nod to the old TV series, but I Liked it

better here in Avengers where they're using Mark

Ruffalo for both parts versus two different likenesses

for the two characters. And they did use... They

still used Lufric, no just not visually. They

used him as the voice. Right, they used him as

the voice but yeah but that's there's a difference

between using him as the voice of Hulk versus

having his face on on on the Hulk costume. Versus

having Ruffalo's face or whoever's gonna be the

actor playing Banner. That's that's my point

To me. I mean, I can't I mean I love Ed Norton

and I shouldn't be talking because I haven't

seen the Incredible Hulk But to me Ruffalo looks

more like I picture Bruce Banner than Ed Norton

could right? I agree the only the only funny

thing I found or the only cool thing I liked

about the Incredible Hulk movie was Stanley's

appearance That was fun. Oh yeah. When he only

died from the poison bottle. Good old Mr. Lee.

Just real quick. Yes? Has anybody seen the Marvel

one -shots on Captain America and Thor? No. Okay.

They both involve Agent Coulson. Okay. One's

called A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor.

Did I did see though I thought you meant the

comic books you mean the ones the little short

stories. Yeah Yeah, I did I watched both of those

third. They're pretty interesting. I like the

the consultant one. Yeah, I thought that was

They made it unnecessary to see the Incredible

Hulk Pretty much like you really Yeah, and then

just just real quick. So we're not neglecting

anything here. I actually tracked down and read

the eight -issue prequel to the Avengers that

Marvel did. And I hate when studios do this kind

of stuff. It basically explains what S .H .I

.E .L .D. was doing during the five movies leading

up to the Avengers. Right. And it also gives

insight as to why the Black Widow appears terrified

in this movie so often. Which is something I

didn't really care for but after I read the comic

I was like, well, all right, I guess it makes

sense They artificially placed her in the Incredible

Hulk through the comic So that's why she's like

afraid of the Hulk as much as she is so and then

you know, they they just explained like where

the Destroyer came from and they also explained

that it's basically a year from The end of like

Iron Man 2 Thor and Captain Iron Man 2 Thor and

Incredible Hulk all take place in the same week

Right, and then it's a year from those movies

to the end to the very end of Captain America,

right? I did not know that Like I in watching

like I thought the Captain America thing also

happened in the same week as the other movies

I did not realize it was a year later And there's

very few things in the Avengers movie like they

say like a year ago But to me when they say a

year ago, and they don't reference an event I

don't really know what a year ago means And the

comic actually put all that stuff in perspective

and I actually enjoyed the movie More but less

because they did they did that stuff. Yeah My

biggest thing about prequels doesn't matter if

it's comic form or book form or anything else

is it's like it's not okay that's great knowing

what happened between those movies and and whatever

the current movie is that's fine but that's doesn't

really you know what if they add something in

at the end of that prequel or you know at the

end of what whatever novelization that isn't

in the actual film that's what pisses me off

about those kind of books is like it's like I

don't know. It's why I don't read that stuff.

And I just go see the movies. And I agree with

you. I completely agree. Like, I don't like this

kind of stuff. Heroes pulled this shit a lot.

That's one of the many reasons why I don't like

that show. But I thought I'd give it a shot.

And it is canon. It is part of the Marvel Cinematic

Universe. But I understand what you're saying.

And it's like... but it did fill out why the

black widow is so afraid even though it was a

stupid reason because everything I've ever seen

her in even in like earth's mightiest heroes

or Anything she's not afraid of shit yeah, and

here she is like afraid of the Hulk even in the

Avengers animated the Ultimate Avengers yeah,

I made one she's fighting the Hulk and she's

not scared so Actually to jump in there actually

really liked the fact that made her afraid because

I think it did humanize that character and it

made it made you realize the big threat that

The Hulk was because you just saw her kind of

kick kick a bunch of agents ass, you know tied

to a chair then you kind of You know compared

that to when she's facing off with mark ruffalo

and you realize well This character is pretty

badass if this girl is kind of this as well as

she is And she really sold it like i'm not the

biggest golly. Johansson fan except for um And

I thought like that was the first time i'm like

wow She does have the ability to emote some type

of feeling so I actually really like that the

fact they did I did like it, but I did I didn't

like the first time I saw it because I didn't

know why Just assumed it was because it's she's

a shield agent and it's she knows who the Hulk

is I know that's I didn't read the Materials,

I don't think they explain it that well, but

I think I kind of my head just saw it that way

I was looking for the same black widow character

from the comic. That's why it didn't make sense

to me. So Anyways, so are we all done with the

previous films? Yeah, I think so who wants to

give plot for Marvel's... Well, first of all,

let me just say this. The reason why they have

to call it Marvel's The Avengers is not only

brand naming, but there was another The Avengers

movie years ago with Ray Fiennes and someone

else about the British... agency something or

else so that always kind of I always wonder why

when this was advertised it was Marvel's the

Avengers and I think that's why because it was

already a movie called the Avengers but they

changed it in England for that very reason to

Avengers assembled oh nice I would really like

to see someone describe the plot of this movie

to me well who wants to do it well i mean basically

you have i mean this is off the cuff here but

you have loki who has made a deal um and this

is going to show my ignorance of comic book and

and stuff like that i don't i don't know the

character that he's making the deal with it's

the giant purple monkey Okay, giant. We'll find

out at the end. Well, no, it's not that guy.

He's dealing with the under guy first. Right.

He's credited as just the other one. No one really

knows who he is. Some people have speculated,

but no one has come out with a definitive answer

yet. He's just known as the other. So he basically

makes a deal with the other as far as a plot

to take over Earth with the use of trade for

that... What was that square called? Tesseract.

Tesseract, right. Cosmic Cube. Cosmic Cube. So

I mean, that's basically the premise is he's

going to go down to Earth and do that. So we

have the Avengers assemble. Obviously, there's

a little bit of plot in there as far as how they

all come to be a team and whatnot. But they're

assembling and they're going to take on Loki.

I mean, that's the gist of the plot. I mean,

there really isn't much more than that. I mean,

yes, there's lots of little details in how Fury

is dealing with the Council, et cetera, and the

interactions between the characters, et cetera.

But if you boil it all down, it's the Avengers

try to stop Loki from destroying the world. Yeah.

Now, I'm essentially comic book ignorant for

the most part. Besides Loki, What other rogues

do the event I mean sure you could you know you

could throw in Justin Hammer from Iron Man you

could throw in the General Ross from Hulk you

could throw in Red Skull from Captain America.

That's that's that's it like it. Hey, you've

been watching Earth's Mightiest Heroes, right?

Sadly, okay. Well, it's the show ever I agree

up to a point. I don't think it's the worst show

I've ever seen it's too confusing for me I'm

only nine episodes in, and it's so confusing.

Here's the problem with that show, and it might

help you a little bit. The first 10 episodes

were all minisodes on the internet. So they're

broken. So once you get past episode 10 or maybe

12 and they stop with the origin crap, it actually

gets better. OK. Anyways, yeah, The Avengers

is kind of like the Marvel's Justice League is

the easiest way to put it. Anyone any single

enemy of the Avenger is an Avengers villain?

Right, but specifically to DC Darkseid even though

he's a Superman villain he's also Like one of

the biggest and baddest villains that the DC

universe has not just that he's a Superman villain

But he is one of the ultimates. Yeah same same

thing with Brainiac. Yes, Brainiac is a Superman

villain, but Brainiac has on a larger scale he

wants to destroy the universe and remake it in

his own image. That's a large -scale thing. The

Avengers have their main characters as well.

I mean, they have King the Conqueror who can

travel through time. They have Ultron. They have

Thanos. I got top ten here, Avengers villains.

They got Taskmaster, Korvak, Scarlet Witch. Norman

Osborn Thanos Skrull or Cree Baron Zemo and Masters

of Evil Loki Kang and Ultron Yeah, yeah, I would

say Ultron is probably definitely their their

main villain because he also kind of is often

responsible for Other other villains like if

they created him, too Yeah, yeah, and I knew

I knew going into this movie that Loki was gonna

be essentially the main villain that they dealt

with but I don't know it just kind of felt. It's

not a slight that I have against the movie. I

don't know. I just kind of felt, well, oh, OK.

We're going with Loki, yay. I think the reason

they did that is for the same reason that Thor

was as crazy as it was, because they used Thor

to open up the movie -going audience to the idea

that there's more going on than just Tony Stark

and Earth. Right in the Marvel Universe. So going

into the Avengers they kind of went I think they

went with Loki's so that there would be some

consistency for the movie going audience Right.

I think Loki to had the most as far as He has

the most he's the deepest character out of the

to me out of the villains we've seen in the different

Marvel movies as far as there was more to him

that wasn't explored yet compared to a lot of

the other ones which we we saw all we needed

to see from them yeah i agree with that you know

not to mention obviously the you know the brother

connection to to thore and how that played out

but to me it was it was an easy choice to go

with low -key And I think what makes Loki a great

villain for the Avengers is that his you know

his power power wise He can't stack up and he

kind of realizes that um, so his you know, he's

the god of trickery So that's what he does and

like he was he was able to spark that conflict

that you needed for the Avengers in order for

them to Come together because he's his first

actual. I think I believe he's the first Villain

ever for the Avengers in the comics. Yeah, he

and it made sense because that's how that's who

brings the Avengers together in the comics Yeah,

he kind of gets the Hulk to go crazy and tack

Thor and then that's how the Avengers kind of

assemble if you will so nothing to do the comics

Exactly, and I think that that fits in he is

powerful. He you know, he's very dynamic He's

kind of like the ultimate she's like the Shakespearean

for villain of of comic books, in a way. He has

a lot of daddy issues. He wants power. He has

issues with his brother. So you can see that

relationship with him and Thor was explored a

little bit in this, even in their brief time

together. So I thought he was a good choice.

I don't think bringing in Ultron would be a good

idea or another villain. I think it's smart to

bring in a villain from one of the other Marvel

movies. Well, yeah. I mean, in this context,

I see why he was. To me, it makes perfect sense

for two reasons. Number one, you have to stay

true to the comics to an extent right so that's

who brought the Avengers together in the comics

that's who should be bringing them together in

the movies from a second standpoint they know

they're not dumb they know there's gonna be more

Avengers movies obviously before they do this

they know it's gonna be a cash cow for a while

so you can't start with the ultimate villain

well yeah my sorry no I just say you have to

start somewhere so you can build and get bigger

villains as we go So the one thing the one thing

I had kind of was hoping for it's it's weird

that we're sitting here saying that they're they're

sticking with the comics when really it's a it's

a it's almost a semi -perfect blend of ultimate

The ultimate universe and the 616 standard universe

right because in in What you're talking about

where Loki brings them together? That actually

that's the 616 and they do that on you know they

form the Avengers on their own without shields

involvement In but with shield being involved

that's straight out of the ultimates where shield

actually forms the Avengers And tries to mix

the perfect concoction and stuff like that. So

it's it's weird that they went 50 -50 I mean,

they didn't really I I understand why they went

with Loki I mean, I agree with everything that

you guys are saying I'm just it's there There's

other ways they could have gone if they had gone

into the the whole ultimate thing Which I kind

of wish they would have gone the ultimate route

with Thor and made him everyone like Loki had

everyone thinking that he was a nut job in the

comics. But I thought that would have been interesting

to see Thor, and I kind of wish that's how they

would have gone originally, but they didn't.

But, you know, moving on. You know, I think for

a movie like this, I mean, everyone always kind

of throws all the action movies and complains

and, you know, blah, blah, that there's no plot

or there's a lack of plot. You don't really in

something like this. That's that's kind of the

first chapter of this new I mean, obviously we've

had all the Marvel movies, but this is the first

of the Avengers I don't really think you can

do too much with plot because you have so many

characters that you have to kind of reintroduce

and and mix together and you have to get down

that the the relationship between all of them

and It's already two and a half hours like I

just don't think you can do that complex of a

plot, so I don't necessarily see it as a humongous

bad thing that we don't have some complex plot

here. Go ahead. I'm agreeing. It's a little thin

for my taste. I agree that it's thin, but I guess

I'm just giving it a pass on this one just because

of so much stuff that they had to get done. I

think if they did what I like, which would be

a more complex, more complicated plot, I think

the the common moviegoer would have felt bogged

down like we were saying with Iron Man 2 yeah

well you had to put in majority of action scenes

yes there is the Bruce Banner story yes there

is the story of Loki and Thor Essentially, Tony

Stark Iron Man, essentially he's just there.

I mean, because he's already had two movies.

You really don't need any more story with him.

Captain America, his one movie essentially told

his entire origin story and now he's in today's

universe. So you don't really need a lot of story

with him in this. Essentially, this is a Bruce

Banner Hulk. I kind of disagree. Thor and Loki

movie. Okay, why? To me, the person with the

most character development in this entire movie

from beginning to end is Captain Planet. Or Captain

America, excuse me. What movie did you watch?

Is Captain America because he starts the movie,

this confused, out of place, out of time character

that's not getting along with anybody. And really

isn't... Being a leader and by the end of it.

He's the one that's bringing the group together

He's the one that's directing them delegating

them giving them, you know from a military standpoint

direction To me he grows leaps and bounds from

the beginning of this movie to the end more so

than any other character I think he's the only

character that moves in this movie. Yeah, and

and and I agree what I was essentially saying

though is This is the plot here not counting

the action scenes. The plot here is mainly focused

around Hulk and Loki. That's really where it's

focused because that's Loki's ultimate goal is

to get the Hulk to come out. And there have already

been two Hulk movies at this point. The first

one, the crouching tiger hidden dragon version

doesn't really count. That have already explored

his story of his backstory whereas this one He's

controlling it. He he knows how to control it.

He's not just hugging out all the time Not every

little thing is going to set him off Well, I

agree that Loki and Hulk are the main as far

as the plot goes there the maybe The main focus?

I don't think they're the main focus. I think

they're, as far as the plot goes, they are the

key components because Loki's the one trying

to do everything and he's trying to use Hulk.

But as far as like the focus, I think the focus

in what surprised me in this movie is that they

did such a good job of evenly spreading it across

all of them. As far as a focus goes, as far as

character development, it's Captain and then

maybe Hawkeye and Black Widow. Oh, yeah. I yeah,

I think I think the only The people I think that

move the most in this movie. I think were the

shield agents in Captain America Yeah, I I feel

like every and here's here's the problem and

this has been brought up before so this is not

something new that I thought of but it's something

that I agree with so I thought I'd bring it up

here they and I actually had part of this opinion

back when Joss Whedon was announced as the director

of Avengers, which I took as another strike against

the movie because I am not a Joss Whedon fan.

The only thing he's ever done that I like is

Firefly. Everything else I don't really care

about. So I know that he can do groups and he

can do it really well. And I know that he can

write really well. I just don't really like his

stuff. But anyways, when I came to the realization

that there's nothing Joss can really just the

only thing Joss Whedon could do with this movie

is screw it up. Like it was going to be good.

Anyways because everything had already been done

For him all the actors were already cast All

the attitudes of each character were already

defined by other directors like they were already

everything was already like picked out For how

these people were supposed to act so really all

he had to do was I mean it and it's no small

feat but he had to wrangle all that talent and

and display it in a surprising manner and it's

given given him I don't really think it's like

That big of an accomplishment because it's it's

like I said, he only could have screwed it up

Because everything else had been laid out for

him. I kind of really disagree with that actually

because I just not the I I think he didn't get

a little he didn't get he didn't get to change

anything He can't he can't mess with the characters

any because they're gonna go off in their own

movies Well, everything was already set in stone

before this was ever produced Well, a lot of

the Captain America character was actually done

by Josh Whedon in his rewriting of the Captain

America script. And I disagree that none of these

characters... He did change these characters

a little bit. Like, Loki's motivations in this

are a lot different than his motivations in the

Thor movie. In the Thor film, his big motivation

is wanting to please Odin. He wants to show Odin

that his rightful place is on that throne. Well,

again, there's your gap. No, I don't think it's

a gap. I think what you have is his realization,

like, with Loki... There is yeah, there is a

gap there, but I think changing is his motivations

not so much as Trying to please his father more

so to trying to show that he deserves this It's

what he's just getting what he deserves. It's

well I agree with you, but I'm saying that that

change comes from being locked God God knows

where in the universe for a year without any

kind of contact other than these freaky alien

things, but I think you see that in scenes like

in the in the germany scene where you know he's

discussing his his his relationship towards human

beings and where he sees them you see it with

uh when again sees loki for the first time in

that within that conversation a lot of what weeding

did there's not much like the character development's

not that much there it's nearly impossible to

have a lot of character development in this movie

you're talking about endless amounts of characters

you know you're trying to get All these different

worlds put them in the one you're trying to make

it seem You know do in a realistic way make it

not seem, you know all Jingle jangles and you're

trying to make it coherent and fun and entertaining

I think the idea that he just didn't have to

screw it up is Kind of ridiculous in a way because

there's a lot of ways through this movie up.

There's other ways Yeah, there are but I'm saying

like I'm saying that's all he could have done

and he didn't like It's you can't change he could

not go he in this movie Joss Whedon could not

change Iron Man because Iron Man is Marvel's

most popular property regardless of how the Avengers

stands Iron Man is still Marvel's like one of

like Marvel's cash cow so Spider -man well, but

that's not that's Sony that's not even more so

So Iron Man is like their baby. He can't Tony's

like there's no there's no When when start goes

up and he runs the you know in the finale and

the final act and you're like, oh my god Did

something happen to him? I never felt for a second

that something happened to him one because they

announced Iron Man 3 and to just can't do that

because He's their most popular character It's

the same thing with like Thor. He can't I mean

he can change Okay, he could change anybody he

wanted except for Iron Man. He couldn't really

do anything with that character He could try

and change Thor if he wanted to but he really

didn't except he made them he made him a little

more mature than he was in the first one but

again that's that your gap so you have to have

the character has to evolve a little bit over

a year uh... and i i like what he did with cap

which is why i said that captain america and

the shield agents are really the only people

that kind of moved and i do know that he did

the right rewrites on captain america so that

it would fit a little better with his avengers

movie he can't There's only so much that he can

actually do with it with the movie that wasn't

already set for him when he picked up the paper

To write what they're gonna say It is basically

a cheat like they kind of got some point where

they didn't have to establish his characters

Which I think was the right choice I don't I

don't think we can use this as a I mean I don't

have any opinion on Josh Whedon because to me

he's not done anything that I've ever really

watched before He hasn't done a lot of movies

and He's only done one. And he's done like Angel

and Firefly and Buffy, which I didn't watch.

But I don't necessarily think we can portray

it as a negative that he didn't have that much

creative control on this. Because no matter who

was going to be there, they weren't going to

have creative control. So it's not like he did

anything wrong. But I agree with you that to

me, what he did right was he didn't screw it

up. Right. I agree. He did not screw up the Avengers.

So to so that was hats off because you know this

movie to me there was it was gonna go one of

two directions I mean, I know that's kind of

stupid because you can say that about any movie

But it was either gonna be the absolute blockbuster

amazing movie that all these other five movies

led up to Or it was gonna be the one of the most

disappointing Things you've ever seen as far

as comic book hero movies go And luckily he didn't

make that happen in my opinion Should we talk

a little bit about what it has done so far sure

800 million Just a few dollars here and there

although seeing the end credits I've never seen

a movie credit more individuals than this movie

So if every one of those people made a certain

amount of money No, just kidding. There's still

way too much money to go around as far as just

before we get into the numbers I will say I'm

glad that they put the important after credit

scene before the entire credit sequence and they

put the little you don't like watching credits

no I'm glad that they put the and I'm just gonna

go out and say the Thanos scene After like the

main part of the credits and then they put the

little diner scene at the very very end Because

I didn't find out about the diner scene until

after I come back home from the movie because

I only stayed to see that the Thanos one Come

on, don't you know Marvel movies? I know Marvel

stay until the lights come on. No, see it well

like when We'd seen it at the IMAX I noticed

that half the people got up after the Thanos

scene and then I was like, oh there must be another

scene so you know first asked and then I stayed

just for the heck of it even if there isn't well

yeah I knew it was it was a funny scene so I

mean it was worth sticking around for and that

scene was That scene was just added for the American

release that actually because the Avengers opened

up overseas first and they actually shot that

scene during the right after the opening night

and Yeah, if you notice like in that scene Captain

America or Chris Evans is hiding his face The

reason being because he's like a full beard now,

so they had to have him hide his face So you

can see you know his beard through his mask So

what has it done numbers wise at this point It

was a 200 million over three days and it's a

800 million right now domestically right now.

It's a 257 million and Foreign is 517. So worldwide.

It's 775 million Where does that place that so

far? Does anybody have the chart in the in the

what all -time or As far as I go yeah all -time

gross or all -time still behind the dark night

for now Yeah, and it's still behind Avatar. Ugh,

let's hope that can change. It's the biggest

weekend ever, but it's still got some time before

it can beat Avatar or the Dark Knight. I believe

both of those made, I know Avatar made a billion

dollars, I'm not sure if Dark Knight did, but

it was very close. I thought Dark Knight cleared

a billion. Think you're right. I think it did

and after we released it in IMAX. I think well

the Dark Knight cleared a billion It was number

11 on the worldwide grosses Domestically Marvel's

the Avengers is sitting at 60 Place it worldwide

37. It'll pass Star Trek here in a second. I

probably did as we were recording this But yeah,

if you know once it does a hundred more a hundred

million more it will be up until It'll be in

the top 20. It'll be right by Jurassic Park So

here's what's disgusting about all of this the

movie had like what a two hundred twenty million

dollar budget Yeah, what it is? Okay before May

4th Marvel had already made all their money back

Well, yeah, but I'm just I'm just saying like

the overseas market paid for the movie So everything

since May 4th has just been pure profit Plus

the 100 million dollars. They just make it in

a place and saying because this is the first

one that was distributed by Disney and if I don't

know sure if you notice but my Screening they

had all these commercials beforehand with all

these, you know Avengers stories and I don't

really see that many before for the Iron Man

movie I'm like, why is there so many right now

and then I realized oh Disney and yeah So this

is how to market better than Paramount This,

of course, is the first Marvel movie to be distributed

by Disney. Well, in shoot, as far as distribution

and advertising, I mean, on the Disney Channel,

that's all they've been blasting about on there.

Yeah, I mean, there's one Disney 365 spot with

Robert Downey Jr. that plays over and over. Oh,

they've got one with the entire cast now. Right,

yeah. Well, yeah, they've got one with the entire

cast now because of the world premiere. um the

funny thing now again you guys can correct me

especially mike can correct me if i'm wrong here

the fact that marvel has made all its money back

before it even got released is that because of

people buying tickets before no No, no, no, no.

So people going online and buying tickets before

the movie's even out has nothing to do with their

money? Well, no, it does. But I'm saying the

overseas market, when they were like, oh, it's

already made $200 million overseas. That's not

counting the US box office, which is the tickets

that you're talking about. Right. Yeah, OK. But

the $200 million total for that three -day weekend

is including the pre -sale tickets that you're

talking about. Oh. So with with the four comic

book movies that are currently ahead of it Will

it will are we saying that it's gonna pass all

of them? I think of it the three spider -mans

and Dark Knight. I think it I think it will because

if you look at this month There's nothing else

really coming out maybe battleship, but it's

gonna own black three Maybe Men in Black 3 will

beat it, but I think it's going to own the box

office. Even if it's not top, it's going to be

it's going to be number one for a while. We talked

about this in the in the spring summer movie

preview episode. I have never seen more movies

afraid of a movie as far as when it came out

in my entire life. Star Wars. Yeah, but even

Star Wars had some stuff that came out. I mean.

Comedies, junk. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, but to

me, I mean as far as comic book movies I've never

seen like usually, you know, somebody will put

something up against it and everyone just like

ran and hid Yeah Well because as we've already

said in this episode this was the culmination

of the last four years Yeah, this is like four

years of pent -up sexual frustration for nerds

Nice it was very well planned and well executed.

Yes um you know i'm i'm even surprised that that

marvel is going head to head against dc in july

because spider -man comes out july 3rd dark knight

rises come out that's 20th again that's sony

that's sony i know but i i know but it's still

a marvel character though but it's not it's not

marvel studios though it's not you can't right

it's not marvel that planned it it's sony that

planned it And I think that's just an example

of how Sony is doesn't know what it's doing sometimes

because it's just I think it I think Sony thought

it had to like it had a pick I'm a weak like

do you go you can't go right after the Avengers

you can't go right after Right after the Dark

Knight rises because I think after that people

are gonna maybe be done with Superheroes, so

they thought well in a way though. I mean They

are I don't know there is like double -edged

because yes They're going you're looking at it

from a standpoint where they might not get as

much because dark nights out there But they might

be looking at it as dark nights not gonna get

as much because they're out there. That's true

Well, hey, I know Seriously doubt that though.

I mean that spider -man movies probably gonna

do good It's probably gonna make its budget back

and the movie looks great because they actually

tell a different story than all the other ones

previous uh... but i'm sorry dark knight rises

will kill that movie uh... you can understand

not only has done so well for so many years and

i'm a batman fan but i mean it has three movies

and the top like twenty five of all time we didn't

talk about this with the avengers but uh... we're

talking about spiderman versus uh... batman uh...

ticket prices that's that that well they're going

to be in three d no batman's not three d Thought

they were both gonna be in 3d. Oh, no, no one

hates 3d. Yeah Dark Knight Rises does have the

IMAX but IMAX isn't as you know, it's not in

every theater There's usually only one screening

per movie theater if they even have one So I

think I think that's gonna hurt it overall I

mean, it's probably gonna get a lot of rewatch

we've watches because people are so hyped for

that movie At the end of the day though those

two are gonna gonna ensure that Avengers is the

blockbuster number one of the year Actually,

you guys know something interesting and I don't

know we can't figure out why this actually happened

You know the Avengers the biggest movie in America,

right? Got pushed out of the IMAX by that Johnny

Depp movie. Oh god My theater too in and because

I just went to see it today and the one the theater

I chose to go to was a was a 14 screen and Avengers

was playing on screen 14 like It should still

be on screen one, which is the bigger one. Yeah,

so it's weird that usually a movie like that,

especially with Disney being the distributor,

Disney can pretty much strong arm anybody out

of the IMAX and be like, no, we want this for

our fucking selves. But the Johnny Depp movie

went in there. I don't know how that happened,

but everyone in our theater was actually kind

of shocked. Not to mention the fact that we can't

figure out why that movie is in IMAX in the first

place. Yeah, that movie so does not need to be

an IMAX hell that damn movie should be a direct

DVD release This is completely off the topic,

but I don't know what your guys's theaters did

for previews and whatnot I mean it completely

made sense that you had a Dark Knight Rises preview

a battleship preview a spider -man preview Did

all of your guys throw not only the Tim Burton

animated movie? But also I guess the Disney one

makes sense, but it was seemed weird to me that

there was two animated previews thrown in there

Which ones were in yours? Brave and the Tim,

the Frank and Weenie. We didn't have those. I

didn't have those. All right. Here's what happens.

So the theater gets most theaters, at least the

two that I've worked at. So there's only a couple.

There's only two that are bigger than the other

one that I worked at. They have a contract with

Disney. And you'll probably, if I tell you this,

you might notice this. You might not be able

to unsee it now. Almost every movie you go to,

At least one of the trailers will be from the

Disney family of movies Whether it's whether

it's touchstone or straight -up Disney or Pixar

or something like that. Okay, so that is like

a contract they have with the theater Then there's

the Unattached trailer or whatever comes on it

that one should be on there as well in the digital

age Sometimes we don't put that on there because

it's not actually attached anymore Frank and

weenie was the attached and Brave was the Disney

trailer. That's just weird to me. So if that's

how Disney sent it out, we didn't play the Frankenweenie

trailer. In fact, I actually switched up all

of our trailers so that we were playing the Dark

Knight trailer in the Spider -Man trailer because

the other guys I work with don't tend to theme

their trailers very well. But I will say in our

theater, we had the The IMAX we had the men in

black 3 trailer which blew my mind. Blew my frickin

mind. I actually said shit and I put my hands

out in front of me like I was gonna hit the pavement

I I I have I don't like 3d I can I can tolerate

stuff that shot on 3d but as a general thing

3d doesn't really wow me that much and The scene

where you know, he jumps off the building to

do the time travel thing I actually felt like

I was falling. It's because the screen was huge

or whatever, and in 3D, but I actually, for the

first time ever, I felt like I was doing something.

3D impacted me in a way that I was never expecting.

I laughed because my wife jumped back in her

seat. I'm not I'm not like I don't know some

of you guys have really strong opinions on 3d

or not 3d I enjoy 3d I enjoy IMAX more It doesn't

make or break a movie for me either way So I

don't necessarily care if I see it in 2d or 3d,

but I don't hate it like like my Blanchard does

The only reason why I hate it is because the

theater that I go to and they give you these

dumbass glasses I don't see any difference. I

honestly do not see any difference. I will never

understand. You're not the first person that

told me that. See, it depends on where you sit.

Because if you sit off to the side or real high

up or real low, you're not going to really get

the full effect. Whereas if you sit smack dab

in the center, you're going to see it. That's

where I usually sit. And the only difference

at the theater that I go to, the only difference

is that the glasses that they give out is that

it essentially dims the picture. Yeah. I think

you need your eyes checked. The picture's being

dimmed twice before it hits your eyes with 3D.

I just don't understand how people can't see

it, though. I hate 3D. 3D needs to go away. My

issue with 3D comes from, one, in this area,

they don't give you a choice. Originally, the

run for my theater was, one, 2D showing of the

Avengers at noon, when nobody's going to go.

and then the rest of the shows throughout the

day were in 3d and then they had the 3d imax

and to me that's stupid because you know on monday

morning they're gonna be like man 3d did great

it was everybody wanted to go see it in 3d well

that's the only way you let them see it and luckily

my theater wised up and they said okay we have

one theater for 2d because it's a 14 with a and

15 with the imax it was one theater was 2d uh

one theater was real d and then there was the

imax And actually what I noticed in working on

Saturday was the IMAX sold out first because

it's the freaking IMAX and everybody wants to

see it that way, whether it's 2D or 3D. And then

the 2D show sold out before the 3D show. People

only went to the 3D show when everything else

was sold out. I think a lot of it is just money

-wise. Oh, that too. But I can see them for free.

Right. But I'm saying if they're the same price,

more people are going to go see 3D. That's what

I think they should do, is cut the price like,

and some of you guys might scoff at this, but

if they raise the cost of the 2D by a dollar

and lowered the cost of the 3D by a dollar, made

them the same price, I think you'd have a lot

less people bitching. My only problem with 3D

is I have never worn glasses or contacts in my

entire life, and for two and a half hours to

have a pair of glasses on my ears is annoying.

Yeah, that bugs the hell out of you. Well, see,

I wear sunglasses, and then I have prescription

glasses that I hardly ever wear because I've

got the magnet that attaches the sunglass part

to my glasses, so... I don't even know if you

can call it the IMAX glasses. They're not really

glasses. They're like pieces of plastic on your

face. But in any case, I don't mind that part

of it. I just I don't particularly care to have

to, one, spend the extra money. Or or really

to I just I don't care for the 3d feature not

that it isn't cool when it works and when it's

done Right, but I just I'd rather either a see

it in IMAX or to see 2d There was some hokey

stuff in the Avengers 2. Yeah, there were some

scenes it broke I didn't see it in 3d yet. So

I can't speak to that but I don't mind I think

if like I said, I think if it's the same price

most people would choose to see 3d but I have

a problem with post -converted stuff. Yeah, post

-converted stuff is no good, as is evident most

and foremost by The Clash of the Titans. Maybe

we should transition into people's favorite parts

of this movie, highlight stuff they liked about

it. Why don't we let Dan go first? He hasn't

talked in a while. Well, we've covered a few

things, and while I do agree, the plot and the

vendors is pretty paper -thin. It's not really

a plot, it's reasons for action, which I was

okay with, because this was some of the most

fun I've had in theater in years. I literally

watched the entire movie almost with a smile

on my face. A big part of that was... like my

crowd reaction, it was crazy. Like the cheering

and the laughing was like to the levels of like

I thought it was a sporting event because people

were clapping and like obviously often in response

to things the Hulk was doing, but it was just

crazy. So it was just something I really enjoyed

and really enhanced the experience. Sometimes

the theater experience can make a movie more

enjoyable and this is definitely one of those

cases. I also thought we mentioned like There's

a lot of things that can go wrong with this movie

There's a lot of things that juggle and I felt

like every character got their moment to shine

in either dramatically or in action wise that

even smaller characters like Eaton Colson and

Black Widow and Hawkeye all kind of showed that

they can you know, they deserve to be considered

Avengers in some way Also, you know, we've had

a lot of hulks. This is our third Hulk in like

10 years. And I think Mark Ruffalo is the best

Hulk yet. He has like really this neurotic like

sense to him and he's very cold and very has

a very dry wet that fits that character. And

I kind of really liked I like Mark Ruffalo to

begin with. And I really liked him in this role.

The action I thought was great. A little a little

little moments here and there that little fan

service moments that I thought were really cool,

like Hulk trying to pick up Thor's hammer, Iron

Man shooting off of Cap's shield, blasting a

bunch of aliens, these little tiny moments, and

I thought the final battle sequence was fantastic.

Marvel movies tend to kind of slow down in the

second half, and often they kind of... put all

out near the end. They're kind of, you know,

Iron Man, like the big knock against Iron Man

was the action wasn't that great. You know, Iron

Man 2 is kind of same thing. I think this by

far was one of the best action set pieces in

all of Marvel and maybe even arguably all of

comic book history. You know, that may be a little

hyperbole since I just saw it, you know, twice

last week, but I thought it was great. It's a

really fun time. And it was literally like. I

was really worried this would disappoint me,

and in the end, I enjoyed it immensely. I think

you touched on something that I wanted to bring

up. I've enjoyed movies, period. As far as an

actual visceral reaction, not visceral, but physical

reaction to stuff, you usually don't get that

mainly through comedies. you know I don't usually

physically react to a movie unless it's like

a comedy like you know hangover or something

like that where I'm where I'm physically like

smiling laughing like feeling like I'm enjoying

myself from beginning to end I don't think I've

ever enjoyed a action movie more than I enjoyed

this one um meaning you know I mean at one point

my friend and I were laughing so hard we were

crying Yeah, and I've never done that in a movie

much less an action comic book superhero movie

I actually fell on the floor laughing at the

island But but I mean the Hulk moments especially

when he when he uses Loki like a ragdoll when

he punches Thor Well, he did one other thing

that I thought was hilarious too It was probably

the grin because when when when cap was giving

out orders and he's like, oh, yeah smash Yeah,

there was that there was oh the other one was

when he got poked when Iron Man poked him. Oh

Yeah in the stomach. I thought that was flares

But when he picked up Loki and started flipping

him around the entire theater was dying They

were laughing so hard I think one thing this

movie did that I and again this is a lot of us

are speaking in the moment we've just seen the

film and we may have different reactions you

know months from now or you know even a year

or two from now but a lot of times in superhero

movies you don't get a genuine feel for the scope

or the magnitude of certain things because everybody's

a superhero and all the action is taking place

the entire movie. And what I'm pointing to on

this one is they did an excellent job of showing

just how powerful and intimidating the Incredible

Hulk is. Yes. As far as all of the other superheroes

being in awe, being afraid of him or knowing

that it's something that you don't want to mess

with. It didn't. I think it was very good that

they didn't put the Hulk at the same level as

the other superheroes. Actually, I'll agree with

you there, but I'll go one step farther with

you. I think they did something that hasn't really

been shown. Quite so well outside of well Ang

Lee tried to do it, but he did it the wrong way

He had well. No he had the Hulk get bigger Throughout

his movie But in the Avengers They actually did

this a really smart way. He actually starts out

on par with Thor and Then ends up being the strongest

guy on the field which is something that happens

when the Hulk The angrier the Hulk gets, the

stronger he gets. And his feats of strength get

bigger the longer the movie goes on. It's like

he's getting angrier the longer the movie goes

on. He's mad about how long the movie is. I just

think it was really good the way that they separated

the degree of power within these different superheroes.

You know, you see like all these other ones,

I love the X -Men movies, but you see those and

it's almost like they're all superheroes. They're

all special in their own way. This one, yes,

they're all superheroes and they all have their

own powers, but everybody in, you know, down

to a person was like, the Hulk's huge and powerful.

Don't fuck with that. Yeah, well, that's what

I'm saying. I mean, at first he's as strong as

Thor. The second thing he can, second to second

time, fucking punches it. Troop transport thing

and kills it in one hit, you know, it's but Thor

can't do that No, no, not at all. But that's

that's what I'm saying They did a nice they showed

a nice escalation of his strength that it's not

just one thing It keeps getting more and more

and another example of them showing the kind

of the scale and the magnitude of things and

not letting it get lost in the fact that it's

all a superhero movie was what you pointed out

before with with Thor's hammer and that Even

the Hulk couldn't pick that up I thought that

was not just a comical moment, but I thought

that was well done because it again showed the

levels of different things within this movie

and pointed out specific powers. And it's not

just like anybody can do anything. I like that

part. Like I said, I thought it was a good blend

of comedy with the action. There wasn't I don't

know to me there wasn't much not to like about

this as far as highlights go But my favorite

scenes, I think almost were all involving the

Hulk. I think he almost stole the show You know

some people complain about Robert Downey jr.

Having too many smart alecky, you know smartass

remarks or words about I love it I loved every

one of them To me it didn't get stale I mean,

that's just the way Tony Stark is in this universe.

He is the smart aleck It's the way it's been

since iron man. I mean, but he's always been

kind of snarky anyway, though, right? Yeah Yeah

Do you have anything else Kev? I Might come back

after you guys have gone in some if I think of

some more Steve what about you? What'd you like

about the movie? well for one, I love the the

casting choice for Bruce Banner. I think that's

one of my favorite interpretations of the Hulk

throughout any of the films that he's been featured

in. And not to really reiterate anything anybody

else has said because I do fully agree with everything

everybody's mentioned so far. Some of my key

favorite points are, for instance, the new armor

that Iron Man gets, the emergency armor as he's

being launched out of his penthouse. But I like

how he goes in there first and kind of taunts

Loki and kind of throws him off for a second,

puts on the wristbands for his new armor. Those

two had excellent interaction. Yeah, and then

you know, he's he's mentioning everybody from

the team and then he says I have an army Yeah,

well, we have a Hulk, you know just you know

purposely to piss him off and then of course

the the funny moment when Loki tries to turn

Tony Stark against his teammates and then taps

the Taps his arc reactor his arc reactor and

it's like Hmm, and then he just you know normally

works. Why isn't this working? Yeah, and that

was just that made me laugh You know like Kevin

said the the puny god part when Hulk's playing

ragdoll with Loki That alone makes me want that

that scene alone makes me want to go see the

movie again, yeah, I love that With that moment,

I hadn't I took me I had to read what the Hulk

said afterwards because my crowd was laughing

so hard I could not hear what he said. I'm like,

I saw it a second time and try to pay close attention

again I'm like, I think he said puny God, but

I'm not sure because everyone was so Laughing

so hard. It was impossible to hear those were

the only two words spoken by Hulk by the way

besides smash No, he didn't say smash It was

it was Captain America that says that smash after

Captain America told him to smash Did he yeah,

I don't think so see wrong going smash I don't

I don't think so because the way that scene happened

when cap was giving out the orders Captain America

was because the last one to get an order was

Hulk He's like Owen Hulk and then it paused and

then Captain America said smash and then then

Hulk just kind of grinned at him and then smashed

a bunch of shit. Yeah I don't think Hulk ever

said smash in the movie. I'm pretty sure he did.

I don't know. According to the online, the only

two words he ever said was puny gad. But online

has been wrong before. So now we all have to

go out and see it again. But in any case, and

then earlier in the movie yet, I like the fact

that when Tony Stark is basically going after

talking with the other Avengers and Nick Fury

and catches the guy playing Galaga on his computer

screen which was a nice cutscene in there and

then after they walk away the guy goes back to

playing it but whoever had the idea to throw

that whoever randomly thought let's do this in

this movie should be like given something like

a medal like who thinks of that I think that

was Robert Downey Jr. I don't think that was

I think that was an ad -lib I'm pretty sure that

was just something he threw in and then they

did the actual visual yeah Although they did

the visual for hardcore Galaga fans, the sound

is off. They play the wrong sound effect. Nobody

can be happy. You have to take that kind of stuff

with a grain of salt. No, it's just a fun thing

to watch if you're a hardcore old school video

game fan because that's not what's happening

on the screen that they're showing. It's the

sound effect for something else. But that moment

was awesome. Yeah, I mean there were a lot of

lot of fan nods in there, but I loved how everybody

got their own set time on the screen Not only

together, but apart so it kind of Helped cement

them in the in the film and not focus on any

one player too much But I do have to agree with

you guys that Captain America and the shield

you guys pretty much got the the main spotlight

in this film As far as character development,

yeah as far as character development the other

ones were pretty other than Hawkeye and Like

widow were were already pretty much cemented

in their own separate films Enough that they

could be players in this film And I kind of kind

of remember my other highlight as you're saying

that to me. I really Kind of applaud the actors

not just the actors, but everybody that had anything

to do with the interaction between them, because

they really, not that any of them have huge egos

or whatever, but it seems to me that they really

kind of knew the bigger picture and knew that

they were all sharing the spotlight. And oftentimes

when you have that many people and that many

main characters, it seems disingenuine or fake

when they're interacting together. And I think

this was almost like Naturally, and it was just

almost effortless how well they interacted with

each other And I'm not saying like well like

they got along with each other Obviously they

were bitching and moaning and everybody but just

the acting between each other and the fact that

they were all in the same level nobody was trying

to upstage anybody or outshine somebody and To

me that was part of the win and that was my biggest

fear was that it wasn't gonna feel natural with

all these Humongous characters in the same movie.

I believe the word you're looking for is chemistry

Yeah, the chemistry was fantastic, thank you.

So that was my other highlight that I was trying

to think of a second ago. What about you, Mike?

What did you like about the movie overall? Well,

I liked the movie. I found it highly watchable,

even the third time I saw it. Although the third

time I saw it, I was able to see some of what

the more negative critics were saying about the

movie. was able to see some of it not not that

I agree with it like a lot of people don't like

the beginning of the movie they don't like how

it starts and they don't like the the the introduction

montage stuff that goes on I actually thought

that was actually really cool and I I do like

the movie I thought the action was was great

especially you know anything that has to do with

the Hulk Did like anything any time that Robert

Downey jr. Was on the screen or Mark Ruffalo

or the two of them together? Was great I especially

like the scene when they're on the bridge and

they're actually talking all sciency and nobody

knows what they're talking about Yeah, and Captain

America says that's what that was That it didn't

it didn't dawn on me until the second time I

saw it that cab actually said that Even though

he's in the scene the first time I thought I

saw I thought the entire interaction was just

Between Ruffalo and and start in Downey and I

thought I thought one of the two of them said

that's what that was You know when they said

someone's speaking English, but then I realized

it was cap and it just it was cap. Yeah They

also had great interaction Downey and Ruffalo

when they were talking about Ruffalo's ability

to control it and and when they were just the

two of them talking Not on the bridge but on

that other section That that all of it any time

the two of them were on screen together. It was

great You know that's why some people want to

see the buddy Hulk Iron Man movie I The only

I really don't have a problem with this movie

except for What it does for the the repercussions

it has on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a

whole for me I keep I keep trying to think of

the big picture and The first five movies that

led up to this they were great because they didn't

have to deal they all had little small Contained

problems that they dealt with this one this movie

introduces like global ramifications Yeah, it

was it was contained in New York But how many

thousands of people probably died in New York?

All of a sudden everybody is now aware of the

existence of aliens it's For me I want to be

I want the movie to be as good for me as it is

for like you guys Yeah, and I and I did I watched

it. I cheered I laughed I I was like yeah, let's

go. You know it was great and The effects in

2d were great The only problem I have is what

kind of nod what kind of ramifications are gonna

become present in Iron Man 3 or Thor 2? Even

if it's just like a pebble thrown in the Atlantic

Ocean -sized ripple, that would be fine. To me,

that's where they're walking the tightrope. They

can easily do sequels to the Avengers and deal

with what happened here. To me, it's going to

be very tricky for them to do the sequels to

the individual films and not screw something

up. Yeah. I mean, how do you go back to I like

the story that they're putting together for Iron

Man 3, but how do you not address the events

of the Avengers, especially with it being the

first movie? Yeah, it's going to be very careful

how they have to do that. Yes, they do have to

be very careful. But you could also, you know,

you could address in the very beginning of Iron

Man 3, hey, this happened a year ago. We're still

working on it. We're working up to it and then

Iron Man can go have his own adventure in his

own You know, oh that's I'm saying that's fine

I mean, we obviously we all have to see how they

handle I'm just saying but for me the Avengers

won't be as good as it probably is for you guys

for me Until I see the repercussions of it, right?

Yeah, that's that's with anybody for me. The

movies are as a whole I I see it as a whole just

like I would read a comic book series as a whole

so And almost at this point, I hope that Fox

and Sony never relinquish their rights to X -Men

and Spider -Man because what would happen if...

I disagree. Well, no, hold on. Hold on, let me

finish. I hope that Fox and Sony never relinquish

their rights to Spider -Man and X -Men because

what's going to happen to the story that Marvel

has created so far within these six films if

they have to then introduce Spider -Man and the

X -Men down the line? Well, it wouldn't necessarily

be that, though. The problem... See, I don't

know like I'm not huge in the comic book and

obviously Mike can probably speak more to this

But there were characters that could not be involved

in this because of those rights, right? I know

I'm not I'm not talking about spider -man. I'm

not talking about You know, I'm not talking about

main characters as far as the X -Men and spider

-man I'm talking about villains that could be

used That that have a presence in the Avengers

in comic book, I believe You know quick silver

scarlet witch I can speak to that You know so

so so from this so I'll let him speak to that

on a second But what I'm saying is obviously

I don't think anybody wants to see spider -man

show up or or you know one of the specific x

-men But it's the other people that are being

held back because of these Licensing issues that

if they could somehow get past that it would

be cool to see some of those characters in you

know, future Avenger films. And I do understand

that, but my main fear is that they're going

to somehow... No, they're not gonna quit. Even

if it's just in a cameo. They don't need to.

They don't need to, because Spider -Man carries

his own movie by himself, and they don't need

to do that. They actually tried to in Captain

America to get a cameo of Magneto and Wolverine

and they said no and I don't think those studios

are gonna give up their rights. It's the cash

cow. I mean, that's why Ghost Rider Spirit of

Endage came out because they didn't want to lose

the rights to Ghost Rider and if they don't want

to lose the rights to Ghost Rider, they're definitely

not gonna want to lose the rights to Spider -Man

or those other films. Well, they have the rights

though. Disney Marvel owns the rights. to the

x -men and the fantastic four characters not

no they don't think only characters they just

can't distribute the movie they own the characters

that they just have it's just the licensing part

they don't have the rights rights it's not necessarily

you know i mean they do own them so i mean it's

it's not as cut and dry as it seems yeah it's

and what it is it's it's the film rights everything

that that you know the and it's it's weird okay

and he spoke to scarlet witch and quick silver

Yeah. The way that Kevin Faige, somebody asked

Kevin Faige about those two characters and he

actually said that Fox and Marvel share the rights

to those characters, but the way it works out

is if Marvel were to use them, they could make

no reference to the fact that they are mutants

or Magneto's kids. Which they wouldn't necessarily

have to do. Know I know they don't have to but

what I'm saying is Fox basically owns x -men

and to a lesser into a more global picture any

mutant that Marvel has ever done Fox has the

rights to them That's why is that why they couldn't

use the scrolls because they had to use a Chitauri

because are they since Fantastic Four? Yeah,

there was a big issue for that. Yeah. Yeah, that's

that's that's what I was also going to say is

that the The reason why the Chitauri army is

not as like fleshed out, it's like they're more

just like there for meat grinding and punching

is because they didn't they kept they were trying

to get. The rights to use the scrolls and they

couldn't, so they ended, you know, they just

it was just a palette swap. It's like we've got

one for the scrolls if we get them, but we've

also got the Chitauri as a backup if we don't.

You know and anyone that knows in the comics

that Chitauri are the scrolls in the ultimate

universe so it works So it's it's it's just a

it's a big mess full of politics, and there was

like that rumor for a while that And before anyone

jumps on me here for this, but there was a rumor

for a while that you know Andrew Garfield was

walking around the Avengers set And he's he's

Peter Parker spider -man in the new movie I for

me I get the whole studio, you know, they don't

want them crossing over. They don't want any

of that stuff. But for me, the illusion is kind

of gone for things when like the Spider -Man

movies, you know, Fantastic Four has a building

in New York, you know, you don't even see it

like as a skyscraper because they can't like

they can't even get the rights to put that in

there and like flush it out. It's almost like

there's It kind of sucks now because Marvel is

identifying themselves as a studio and they still

put their their tag on the front of these other

studios movies But it ends up being like spider

-man ends up being like Batman where he has no

relation to like Superman in that in that universe

And it's for me. It's kind of like I would like

to see like Even if it's not even he doesn't

say anything even as just Andrew Garfield like

crossing the street like at a crosswalk And it's

like blatantly him. It's like yeah spider -man's

in New York, too He doesn't have to say anything.

It's like that pole battle took place in spider

-man's backyard and The character of spider -man

would not at least go over there and see what's

going on and even if the Hulk scared him away

You know, I there's like dozens. I understand

it and I and I get why it will never happen But

for me, it's it goes back to why everybody is

geeked out about the Avengers that one That one

world where everything exists all together, which

is what Marvel's known for. It's We'll just never

see it, even if it's just Spider -Man swinging

in the background. I know a lot of people would

say that it's never going to happen as far as

Fox and Sony giving up and losing the cash cows,

et cetera. I have a sneaky suspicion, though,

that it's not that cut and dry and that Marvel

has some strings that they can pull to eventually

get those characters back. The movies have to

not make a movie for so many years. Right, but

I'm just saying that deals can be made, and as

Marvel being the company that created and that

still owns the characters, I'm thinking there's

some legal finagling that they're eventually

going to be able to do. Well, maybe not that

Disney's involved. And after all the money the

Avengers has made, I think they have a few extra

dollars they can use to try to maybe buy out

some of the properties. And the only reason I

say that, it'd be different if they didn't own

the characters. Right, but when they own the

characters I'm thinking that there's gonna be

some other ways that they can prevent those you

know they can do certain things to kind of tie

the hands up of The other companies if they're

not willing to well deal Here's here's the thing

if they if they were really willing to do that

and you know Disney bought Marvel right if right

around the time they were gonna do the Avengers

You know right when they're getting ready to

make it. You know Disney's got deep pockets Know

they were trying to make Avengers the runaway

success that it is you know they knew what they

had they were trying oh My god Fox has fantastic

four which means they have the scrolls if they

were gonna do something like that Do you not

think they would have already tried to do that?

Like if there was some I don't know for them

I don't think it was an important enough situation

for them to you got to pick your battles yeah,

but I'm just saying like if you've got You've

got something you want to do and it would add

to the like the you know the geekgasm And you

know, it'd be appreciated. I mean, why would

you not just go and get it? I mean, any of their

you know, Fox has been talking about rebooting

the Fantastic Four, which is just going to make

it harder for them to get the rights back. So

why would they not have done it before they announced

that stuff? I mean, it's it's kind of if they're

a Disney has deep pockets. I mean, Disney's bigger

than Fox. They could have gone and gotten them

if they wanted to. It's I I really think it just

comes down to. It's it's a contract. It's it's

it's it's really as simple as it's literally

like four or five years. If you don't make a

movie, they get the rights back. It's the same

thing that happened with Superman, except I don't

know how they swung that one. There's ways that

things just magically happen that you know. But

I didn't I didn't follow the Superman one. I

mean, originally it had to be out by December

of this year, but then they pushed it to next

summer. I think it's because the movie was done

or by a certain time. I don't know It's not it's

still not done. It's but it's the same thing

that happened with the Does anybody has anybody

but besides me seen the very first Fantastic

Four movie? Yes Actually a special effects aside

from the special effects, I think it's actually

better than the one that was released in theaters

Who else had highlights though of the movie?

I did. As far as the Avengers go, one thing we

have not talked about is Black Widow's interrogation

techniques. That was hot. It's not only hot,

but it's intelligent. You know what else I liked?

She essentially makes you tell her everything.

On the same level, it just made me think of it

when you brought Black Widow up. I really appreciate

the fact that nobody saw, which happens too often

in comic book movies, nobody saw the need to

even hint at any type of romantic anything. Well,

there is kind of a romance between her and Hawkeye

a little bit, I think, like towards the end of

the film. I mean, it's not outright sad, but

they kind of, you know, share a look with each

other. Um, I'm saying there's no under underline

love story that we're doing right Spider -man

3 thank god There's no damsel in distress. They're

trying to say exactly exactly I Like all of the

Iron Man bits now I got a question for you guys

I I noticed this and I don't I don't know if

it was a nod to Iron Man 1 or not as he's flying

through the city and he's using his various repulsors

and everything else there's a part where I think

it's either on his right shoulder or on his back

where it opens up and missiles just go flying

everywhere and the first thing I thought of was

like oh he modified the Jericho well the Jericho's

repulsor technology anyways no what but what

I'm saying is there was there was a scene where

Missile came out of the out of his armor and

it spiraled into a bunch of other missiles And

I was I was wondering is that a nod to the first

film and the Jericho missile? I guess I didn't

see that part What else did I like about it?

I Like how cap is so out of its element. He has

to learn stuff flying monkeys That's probably

his funniest moment, actually. Yeah. I actually

like Hawkeye in this. I've never really been

a Hawkeye fan. Maybe it was Jeremy Renner's performance,

but I really, really enjoyed it. I thought he

was underused, but that's just my opinion. Well,

yeah. I mean, essentially, he turns, he goes

bad and, you know, he gets turned bad in the

very beginning. And then, you know, what else

did I like? I think this is the first, and it's

a minor role, but I think it was the first film

I've seen Stellan Skarsgård in since, like, The

Glass House. He played the professor that was,

got turned over. He was in The Girl with the

Dragon Tattoo. Oh, I don't care to see that movie.

I just don't care to see it. He's also in Thor,

by the way. Oh, I know, okay, well, I knew he

was in Thor, but I didn't... Like Thor would

Thor was like, okay, I watched that can I get

the last hour and a half? I don't you know last

time I remember seeing him before that was angels

and demons and then obviously Pirates of the

Caribbean I don't watch any of those movies The

one thing we didn't really bring up is you know,

what's what's Banner's secret cuz he's angry

there's a well right but there there's a point

in the movie where he was like i got so low i

put a gun in my mouth and fired the other guy

spit it out which is a scene from uh it's a deleted

scene from the incredible hulk right um and i

like how what was your question with that i'm

so confused it's not a question it's a point

of we didn't bring it up of what his secret is

is the fact that he is always angry gotcha and

that's how he controls the hulk and i like that

instead of like again i'm gonna reference that

horrible 90s cartoon i'm watching that now for

a tooncast beyond episode and it's like betty's

like you know pets the hulk is like calm down

calm down stay calm it's like really oh god give

me a fucking break it still doesn't necessarily

explain how he controls it though it didn't really

give a huge explanation i guess it's just like

oh it's been a while since we saw him um so and

if like the end of incredible hulk you kind of

there's that moment with edward norton he's like

meditating and you you see him and he looks up

and you see his eyes like he was a big smile

on his face um i don't know if that was trying

to allude to the fact that he he controlled it

but like i think just the explanation of that

he is always that's not an explanation just because

you're always angry doesn't mean you're in control

of it well to me i took it as Uh, you know, he

tries the uh, you know going back to the incredible

hawk. It's like i'm gonna try and find a cure

Oh, I can't do that. Well, i'm feeling it's kind

of like the what is the the stages of depression

or whatever Yeah, it's like it's like okay If

he's angry i'm gonna be angry then we can at

least be on the same page Like I I just kind

of took it as like that's the that that's what

he found worked, you know It's like I tried the

meditating thing. That didn't work. I tried finding

a cure that I tried blowing my own head off That

didn't work. I might as well just agree with

him and be mad at everything There still is you

know a missing piece of So I'm gonna accept that

I'm angry at everything, but I still have to

do something to control it Yes, let's pull that

string and then we'll just unravel the entire

movie But yeah, I mean that's I enjoyed the movie

overall it was I didn't you know a Lot of people

say it's slow in some places. I don't think it

is no Overall I really really enjoyed it who

hasn't said their highlights I think everybody's

done. Can I just break something up real quick?

Go ahead. And spoilers. But has anyone seen Serenity

besides who here has seen Serenity? I've seen

it. Okay. Were you a fan of Firefly? I actually

never watched Firefly. I just watched Serenity.

Okay, then this might not land on anybody but

me. But when, you know, spoilers here. We've

been kind of just talking about it when but nobody's

actually brought up the fact that one of my favorite

characters from the Marvel movies Actually, Joss

found the need to kill him Which was a yes, which

I I actually like that character very much It

was actually kind of it was actually kind of

funny because when I was watching it one of my

my favorite Joss Whedon show is Firefly and Alan

Tudyk is on that show and he plays a character

named wash who is a very comical pilot of said

spaceship and uh in the movie uh joss decided

that he was going to kill the character of wash

and it was this big you know guy gets stabbed

by a piece of metal like through the chest and

he dies and joss did the same damn thing to my

favorite character in this show it's like it

was just it but what's weird is the colson thing

landed on me more than the wash die serenity

i was like What I actually felt that was like

the only time in them in the movie where I actually

Felt something more or less was that one scene.

I was like oh Yeah, I like that character too.

I would have been disappointed if nobody would

have died though Could have killed agent Hill.

I mean she basically had a red shirt on the entire

time I thought they could have killed the The

one we were just talking about the professor

guy that was on the roof Yeah, I think the fact

I think they needed to kill a character that

if they're gonna kill a character They needed

to kill a character that would actually resonate

in some way that they always established And

that was the point, yeah. And I like what Whedon

did with Colson. I've enjoyed him in all the

Marvel movies. He's always had that really quick

wit. And they even humanized him a little bit

with his relationship to Captain America and

how he himself was this huge fan boy. He has

trading cards of Captain America. He designed

the Captain America suit. So he himself was the...

he you know he really wanted this team to succeed

and i think killing him kind of in a way like

it allowed us to you know the avengers to have

a reason to have something to assemble have something

to avenge in a way and i think if they killed

like maria hill or someone that you know what's

kind of a throwaway character i think it would

have not been as effective and i i'm kind of

sad that he's died because i like i i'm not sure

that he's dead because it's you know i kind of

they kind of allude to the fact that he may not

be um but He probably is but uh, I think the

scene you're talking about where they allude

to him not being dead That was like I think that

was like a huge I I like that scene but at the

same time like if I hadn't seen that if he didn't

show me that scene Uh the scene right before

that would have been much cooler where he takes

the trading cards and throws them at cap And

they have the blood on them Then they have this

scene a little while later where it's like where

maria hill's like those were in his locker Like

don't tell me that Like that that it kind of

lessen away from his death. Yeah, it lessened

that Like why didn't Colson? Why couldn't Colson

just have him in his jacket pocket? I mean To

me it didn't allude anything to his living or

dying to me that was just alluding to Fury and

Just him being a leader and trying to find a

way to manipulate the team into feeling something

I just wish you didn't have to Just wish he didn't

do that like I just wish it would have been it

for me it lessened the impact of the first scene

where he throws the cards Because it was just

it was just staged by fury I think the purpose

of that like I agree it did kind of like well

now is he really dead kind of so it's kind of

Like you kind of lose that emotional impact I

think the purpose of it was kind of showing you

that you know Nick fury He's kind of a shady

character. He's not he's not operating in the

you know He operates in the gray. He's not a

great hero. He's not a villain. He operates in

the gray and he tries to find out ways to make

the world what he thinks is a better place. But

like you mentioned, I do agree that it does kind

of lessen that death. It kind of makes you think,

well, knowing comic books in general and how

death doesn't mean anything makes you think the

same thing. Talk about some depressing dialogue

as your last dialogue before he died, though,

too. If I heard it right, I mean, he's basically

thinking and going out thinking that everything

didn't work. Yeah. Did I hear that line? Did

I hear those lines right? I if I if I remember

he was going out saying that it needed to happen

for it to work. Oh, I thought he was saying it

didn't work, did it or something or it just it

just couldn't work. No, he you know, he went

out he he went out on a high note saying he had

this had to happen all along for them to basically

he. He knew why he was dying. He knew why. I'll

have to listen carefully next time I watch it.

He knew he was dying a martyr. Let's talk about

Fury, because that's one we haven't talked about

yet. Sam Jackson's Fury is just awesome. I mean,

you know, up to this point, we'd only seen him

in little snippets. Was his eye more fucked up

in this movie than before? I think so. Yeah.

Yeah. How did that happen? Actually, I guess

I'll be the odd man out but I wasn't I like the

Samuel L Jackson and I wasn't the hugest fan

of his portrayal as Nick Fury It's a hard character

for him to do since the character is legitimately

Samuel L Jackson the way was written in the comics

is even in the comic book the character dimensions

If anyone ever plays me, it should probably be

Samuel L Jackson. They did it for like everybody

Yeah, they did it for everyone and but so and

like the only one I think that came true was

you know Samuel Jackson and Robert Downey I think

wasn't it didn't they call him out to it might

I don't remember I don't even think Sam Jackson

was the only one that actually has like some

type of I don't know if it's a deal, but He's

there's there's something extra with him Yeah,

he's like a nine -pitcher deal or something like

that. It's kind of something crazy, but not just

that it's also he's directly something to do

with the the comic the comic like that when They

literally based Nick the ultimate Nick Fury is

literally based off of Samuel Jackson right down

to the likeness and They got they have they got

his permission to do that Yeah But no, I liked

him As as fury considering outside of animation

the only other live -action fury I have ever

seen is David Hasselhoff But is there any explanation

for why his scars and and the stuff around his

eyes are more? Kind of more Defined well he was

battling in in some of the scenes wasn't no I'm

talking about from the beginning in this movie.

Oh Yeah, I just go ahead No, no, you can go ahead

first. Okay. I just took it I think it was more

so maybe we notice it more since he had more

screen time Yeah, I'd have to go back and we

watch Iron Man 2 again to really take notice

But I really don't really don't remember. Well

Captain America would have been the last time

he was seen, right? Yeah, that takes place after

Iron Man 2 right or not? Yeah, yeah, but even

that year after Iron Man 2, right? So so the

question is what did he look like in Captain

America? And then what does he look like at the

beginning of this film? I guess Well, I mean

he's not necessarily Sam Jackson himself is not

necessarily Used to making up excuses for scars.

I mean just look at Augustus Gibbons in the X

Triple X movies You should have seen this before

I got it fixed But no, I don't know. It's one

of those things where I didn't really notice

it. I guess I will have to go back and watch

Cap and see if Nick Fury is more fucked up. It

was the only thing that distracted me from the

entire movie was looking at his eyes and being

like, was that always like that? See, that never

bothered me. It is there subtly in all the movies.

It is more pronounced in this one. But being

the only one that read that comic series, there's

nothing in there to explain why this car would

be. And that would be the only other thing that's

like in continuity that Marvel's done So literally

that would just be like an oversight on their

part for for doing that differently that there's

no if there's no reason It should look the exact

same But that's just me being nitpicky I apologize

Don't really have anything if we're talking about

stuff like problems or errors and not necessarily

errors in the film But if we're talking about

personal issues with the film, I mean, it's predictable

but 99 out of 100 movies are predictable to me.

So I didn't I didn't like that. They went back

to the circle on the Iron Man armor Yeah, I didn't

like that either. I like the triangle looked

a lot better. Yeah that bummed me out If we're

talking about things that we didn't like, one

thing I thought was kind of not bad, which is

kind of serviceable, was the score by Alan Chavestri.

He did Captain America, which I thought was really

good, and did Back to the Future, which is iconic.

And this, I thought it was okay, but nothing

really. There's like, you know, there's no Superman

theme in this. There's no classic 89 Batman theme.

It's just kind of there to service the movie.

I kind of wish there would be like a cool Avengers

theme, and it'd be kind of interesting if...

maybe when the Avengers are being formed, like

the Iron Man films and whatnot, if they kind

of, you know, somehow try to develop their own

teams. I think the best score moment might have

been when Iron Man first comes and like he taps

into the PA system with like, you know, the ACDC

music. I thought that was a pretty cool moment.

And you made me kind of realize the score overall

was just kind of like, it was OK, but it wasn't

great. I think because he had he had previously

scored Captain America that they. I read some

something about the music that they didn't want

him to they wanted to be kind of ambiguous and

not and not do the Not have individual themes

for the characters or like one overarching theme

because it's just Like that's a complete mashup

of all the other movies that it's just kind of

there and nobody The music didn't really do anything

for me in this movie. It was just I've never

had any of the music do anything for any of these

Marvel movies I mean to me when I think of like

musical scores and themes for for Comic book

characters. It's all DC Yeah, or they all sound

like Danny Hoffman Well, I'm just saying like,

you know Batman has certain themes that you hear

and you're used to Superman does like those It

seems like you get more of that with DC, but

I'm not As as as educated on DC and Marvel as

you guys are so I think I think you're right

There's not many really great themes for Marvel

characters. The only one I can think of was actually

last year I thought the theme like Magneto had

a pretty cool theme for first class like during

like a lot of his moments But besides that you're

right. There really isn't that many iconic Marvel

themes the original Sam Raimi spider -man films

have It's mostly in the trailer. I think it's

in the movie. I'm not sure if Danny Elfman did

it or not He probably did but every spider -man

trailer had that yeah, I mean spider -man would

be the one exception Yeah, well right, but what

I'm saying is like spider -man had that done

had that really really cool instrumental in the

trailer As he's swinging through the city and

everything else The only the only score that

I've ever bought from any of these six films

was the original Iron Man score Because I thought

a lot of the score in Iron Man was done really

well. But yeah, DC kicks ass when it comes to

the actual scores of movies versus Marvel. Who

else had personal issues with the films or problems

or things they didn't like? I liked it overall.

I mean, there's not really anything for me to

dislike about it. There was a couple of errors.

That's true. Go ahead with your errors. Well,

I just want to say I mean obviously these are

kind of more nitpicky things but if you if anyone's

going to watch the Movie again, obviously some

of us are planning on going to see it again.

Maybe stuff you can look for When dr. Banner

meets Romanoff for the first time in the shed

There's there's one shot where Romanoff is speaking

but her reflection in the small mirror behind

banner. She's not speaking So if you look for

her and then look for her reflection they're

doing two different things Let's see, I already

talked about the Galaga sound effect. Oh, when

Iron Man and Thor are battling in the woods,

just after Thor shoots Iron Man with lightning,

Jarvis says power at 400 % capacity. But if you

look at the graphics on Tony Stark's face, it

actually says 475%. Yeah, but I think, to me,

I don't count that as a mistake because - It's

more like he was just saying we've reached 400

level. Well, I took it as when he started talking.

It's kind of like when you call and get the time

on the phone. Yeah, it's you by the time they

give you the time. It's probably you know They

always say at they always say at the tone the

time will be this I always took it as he started

saying powers at 400 % But it's scaled way past

that I don't see that as a mistake too much as

well I'm more looking forward to trying to see

that mirror scene because I want to see if that's

how accurate that is As far as the power scene

I heard another podcast say that Iron Man would

be dead If Thor hit him with the lightning. I

don't know. I heard it on another podcast. I

remember another one I read, too, was that the

punching bags with Captain America mix around

a little bit, like the ones, the new punching

bag with no tape and then it has tape and then

some stuff like that. I mean, obviously, that's

just a little nitpicky stuff to look for, but

it's fun to point them out. Right. If we want

to get. Sorry. If you want to get nitpicky. I

didn't care for the fact that the movie was flat

instead of scope Let's just let's just talk about

the epitome of nitpicking here In in and I max

it was fine because it filled the end it filled

the screen more than a Scope movie would but

in on it watching it in 2d like on a smaller

screen It the movie felt not small in the same

way that Thor smell felt small to me But the

movie definitely had a small appeal to it. And

I think that was a smart choice on Marvel's part

to help keep the budget scaled down. The camera

was very much, this is what you need to see.

It wasn't, look at all that's going on in this

scene. Just look at what's going on right here.

So I mean it worked and it's but we're talking

about nitpicky stuff here So I thought I'd throw

in the ultimate and the great part is when I

watch it at home on my TV I'm not gonna have

black bars at the top and the bottom The thing

with that, you know going back to what Kevin

said about the power thing with with sore hitting

in with the lightning It would be different I

could kind of see and agree with that other podcast

that mentioned that about that that would kill

Iron, that that would kill Tony Stark. I can

kind of agree with that, but for the sense of

what happened in this movie, I can overlook it.

I could see if maybe that Tony had added like

collection plates to his armor where, you know,

kind of like Bishop from X -Men where he absorbs

the energy and repulses it back at people I could

kind of see that but in this main scope of this

movie that You know the lightning powering him

versus killing him. I don't really mind that

at all Are they operating under the assumption

that his arc reactor is powering the Iron Man

suit I? Don't know what they're they're they're

Canadian, so I have no idea what they're talking

about Go ahead I cuz I I've just assumed since

The introduction of war machine that Tony Stark

is no longer powering the Suit off of his arc

reactor, but each suit has an arc reactor built

into it. I Don't know because he turns it on

Yeah, he turned he turns his on when he's walking

up to it It's it's on and powered on when he

walks up to it in the helicarrier and at one

point He does that with his mask when it's off.

Yeah, I I think it's I think each one including

a war machine they have a their own arc reactor

in them yeah there was there was a disconnect

it wasn't he was not powering that from his own

and the fact that in the in the beginning of

the movie when he comes in he's taking the armor

off he's wearing a shirt there are no connections

to that power source whatsoever that's true so

i yeah yeah you're probably right probably right

he is right i i'm just looking at as okay so

Who says Stark had any direct contact with the

lightning in the first place and it didn't just

charge the existing arc reactor That's true,

which if I remember correctly look like a fancy

static globe thing This was lightning in the

first place. Yeah. Yeah, I had no problem with

it because to me that never never touched his

body And if you get police, you know the fact

that he's Iron Man and he's flying in you know

High atmosphere. He probably he's Tony Stark.

He's probably gonna think well, I'm flying up

in the sky There's good chance I can hit by lightning

so he may have smartly tried to build something

into that I mean he I think it makes sense that

that would be a danger just begin with and also

I also don't think aircraft carriers can fly

really gonna like So I mean it's it's a I mean,

yeah, I mean it's anyways I what I thought I

thought that moment made it worth it even if

it Didn't really couldn't happen, but I think

that battle scene between Iron Man Thor and Cap

was well worth any type of technical error Oh,

yeah, what were you gonna say Steve? Nothing

I've got I've got one thing Okay, and we'll probably

come back to this when we talk about Dark Knight

Rises But I think this movie along with the Iron

Man movies actually all the Marvel movies. I

think they do the Marvel Studios movies not right

right but I think that they do a really good

job of bringing the comic book the comic bookiness

of these of this universe to the big screen like

they they literally were just like they weren't

they didn't take the Christopher Nolan approach

and say uh how do how does Batman function in

the real world like What kind of stuff could

he physically get his hands on to be this person?

It they they really went for the guy that has

a nuclear reactor in his chest or you know it

And I think stretch there is low -key too, like

that's the that's the most common The least amount

of like obviously he's not from earth or whatever.

But if you're talking about, you know not being

able to explain away how he's coming about his

powers or how he's changing his outfit, you know,

and putting his armor on and stuff like that.

Like, yeah, it's they just did a really good

job of literally bringing their comics to the

big screen instead of making it fit on the big

screen. And that is not a knock against, you

know, Nolan's Batman movies, because I think

I think Batman works best in that light. Right.

It makes it it makes it scarier, a little more

gritty. Whereas the the Marvel movies have all

been very bright and Like you know the panels

of a comic book page. It's and I so it's to me

I think they're really successful in that so

specifically speaking comparisons between Mark

the Marvel movie Tony Stark Iron Man versus Nolan's

Bruce Wayne Batman is that in the Marvel movies

Iron Man 1 at the end I am Iron Man. He specifically

tells the world his secret. He's like, I don't

need a secret identity. I am a rich kid. I am

an alcoholic. I can do whatever the hell I want.

Whereas over in Nolan, Bruce can't reveal that

he's Batman. So that's, that's... I mean, that's

just the tip of the iceberg. There's also a million

other... Well, right, but what I'm saying is

like compared to what Tony does in these movies

with his tech and all the, you know... the fancy

things that he's done with it versus Bruce having

to go underground behind people's backs doing

all this stuff of, you know, getting Lucius to

find him this material so we can make it. That's

the big difference between the two. And that's

why I think Mike's right where he says the one

approach works with one and the other approach

works with the other. Right exactly. I think

one way to look at it is kind of like if I like

it say Steven Spielberg's career The Avengers

is like just Jurassic Park. It's a lot of fun.

Yeah, there's some stuff there and then Dark

Knight is like save it private Ryan There's they're

both great in their different ways there. Yes,

like save a private Ryan it has it's more dealt

with real -life issues It's more real, you know

realistic Jurassic Park is more fantastical.

It's like a it's like a theme ride Same thing

with the Avengers. I think people like to compare

them and it's natural because you know the two

biggest Comic book movies ever probably But I

think and I don't like when comparing like what's

better than the other I think it's hard. I think

it's nearly impossible I think they have their

own their own place and I don't think a Dark

Knight mode or that Dark Knight type of movie

would work with the Avengers or vice versa So,

I think Mike made a good point. And if DC was

to, and we have to bring this up because people

are going to expect us to bring it up, one of

my comments was as soon as I got back from seeing

Avengers was, DC take note, this is how a team

up movie is supposed to be made. Now, for DC

to work up to doing a Justice League movie, First

of all, they can't do it with the current Nolan

verse because that's a three movie deal as far

as that continuity Nolan said that story ends

at Dark Knight Rises Batman would have to be

rebooted. They essentially could start with Man

of Steel or whatever the Superman movies called

They could start with that and then do more movies

Green Lantern would definitely need a reboot

If DC ever did that, they'd almost have to take

the opposite approach to me than Marvel did.

Because to me, the Marvel team up where it's

cool is you have this team of the Avengers. You

have this collective group of good guys. And

I know the Justice League does this. I know you

guys know a lot more about DC and all that other

stuff. But coming from a fan or more of the lay

person, which is who they would have to play

to, with DC, the approach almost should be from

a bad guy standpoint. Because that's the... Don't

know. I see it. I see it more as like as a collective

group of villains in DC compared to One interesting

what I'm saying is though Kevin is for for DC

to work up to just to a Justice League movie

or a Legion of Doom movie They would have to

do what Marvel has and that's what I'm disagreeing

with is because I don't think you need to because

You don't need to develop Superman. You don't

need to develop Batman You don't need to develop

some of these heroes what you would have to do

is develop the the villains in that situation

here I This is my thought on this whole Justice

League thing. I I think they need to do Almost

the complete opposite of what Marvel did where

Marvel first of all Marvel has pretty much dominated

the comic book Genre outside of Batman. They've

dominated the comedy genre for the last decade.

Okay. Yeah, so everybody knows all of Marvel's

characters in some way shape or form Okay to

a large portion of the movie -going audience

the people that make your movie the 200 million

dollar success that it is They probably only

know who Superman and Batman are That's probably

that's I mean, that's one of the many reasons

Green Lantern Failed, you know, and that's you

know, then you've got to introduce these people

to like I said one of the many You have to introduce

them to like maybe you have characters like the

flash or or Wonder Woman you have to introduce

the moviegoing population to those and I think

And I'm not I didn't this is not my idea. I heard

this from somebody else, but see what you guys

think We should They should go the opposite way

that Marvel did and just do a Justice League

movie first With like get get the actors they

want to play these roles. Yeah, I can see that

and and do a Justice League movie first and then

have those actors go. So you don't want them

to build up a universe. Well, because I think

what he's saying is because the other, in the

Marvel situation, you already know the characters,

so to speak. You can do each character and build

up to the big climax here. Whereas the other

one, you do the individual characters on DC.

They're going to fail individually, and you're

never going to get to that point. You almost

have to have a big movie that introduces them

all. It's almost like what X -Men tried to do.

Because they wanted to get the popularity going

for them early. Go ahead. Well that way they

can get the interest for the individual films

because and also like in the current iterations

of Like the Nolan verse stuff, you know, those

are never gonna touch Justice League. No, right.

So you You would almost need and like how they've

done here with Marvel signing actors for multiple

screen runs Ahead of time. They'd almost have

to do that for the Justice League Film and then

just kind of go that direction and lock them

into a set number that way they still have them

for the separate film should they go in the direction

that they want the other option there is to I

mean if you look back at Marvel's track record

again, I mean almost every Marvel movies been

outside of the Hulk almost every Marvel and Wolverine

origins has been somewhat of a success where

Marvel or DC maybe it's through Warner Brothers

fault the only Only one in the last decade that's

gotten any traction is Batman. I mean, I like

Superman Returns. It has its problems, but I

like it. But it did not do what DC wanted it

to do. I think that's why I would love to see

more of a villain -centric thing from DC, because

I think they have the better villains. Well,

if they did a Justice League movie up front,

too, you can get fan reactions like, did they

like the person that played that actor, that

character, you know, did they, you know, it's...

There's a whole you can get you can give people

like a roster of actors to choose from. Yeah,

that's true. Although, you know, X -Men tried

that and they failed. So in a way, I mean, I

love the excellent movies, but they were trying

to do everybody at once. So then we can have

the spinoffs afterwards. And we've seen how I

think DC or Warner Brothers has more money to

throw around than Fox. That's true. I just love

I would love to see Legion the Doom type centric

thing, but that's just me. So how much trivia

do we need to go through here? I just had a few

that I thought were interesting I won't go over

all of them probably but uh You might some people

might have saw this or might not have after Thor

and Loki crashed down on the mountainside a large

black crow flies by them as they're talking Yep,

two of them. Yeah, and that's supposed to be

kind of an homage to Odin who had two crows that

would bring Odin information So that's kind of

a little neat little thing they threw in there

um did anybody know that walking phoenix was

was originally rumored for the part of the incredible

hulk yes yeah a lot of people were i think that

that to me wouldn't have worked obviously i'm

thankful that they didn't um i didn't know that

josh weeden actually had done had wrote a script

for x -men oh yeah didn't everybody He I don't

know I see I don't know I'm talking about for

the average fan. That's not a comic book person.

Yeah What was the other stuff here? Oh after

Loki is brought on board the the helicarrier

Tony Stark has a black Sabbath t -shirt on Yeah,

that was kind of cool Let's see the original

cut of the movies over three hours long There'll

be 30 minutes of footage included in the DVD

release. Obviously, that's kind of commonplace,

most of which revolves around Captain America.

I want to see that stuff. What's that you do

or don't? I do. I. Yeah. It says Weeden revealed

that one of those scenes involves Rogers struggling

to adjust to the modern world in his Brooklyn

apartment and another revealed his reunion with

Peggy Carter. So that's kind of interesting.

Trivia here, Samuel L. Jackson's role as Nick

Fury in the film. He is now the second actor.

to play the same comic book superhero in five

different movies. Can anyone name the other one?

No. Colson. Hugh Jackman. Wolverine. Let's see.

The movie basically holds true to the comic book

origins, except obviously Nick Fury and S .H

.I .E .L .D. did not create the Avengers in the

comic book. Also founding members Ant -Man, Goliath,

and Wasp were not cast because number one, Ant

-Man had not appeared in any previous Marvel

film, so he hadn't really been established. And

we did see Wasp and Thor as a cameo, but we didn't

get any more of her. Wasp is in Thor? A small

cameo in Thor. I don't remember that. Well, now

you have another reason to go watch it again.

I watched the damn commentary track and they

didn't even mention it. Anyways regarding wasp

just a jump in there. Sorry, and we didn't Josh

Weedon's first script He actually had wasp in

his in the film, but Marvel thought it was too

much So we had to take him take her out. So she

was originally planned to be I'm glad those three

characters weren't there I don't know. I think

would have been cool to have little cameos for

him But uh also staying true to the comics obviously

the Stark Tower would later become the Avengers

So you had the whole you know Stark Tower sign

that was left with just the a that was kind of

a note the crew hired 25 members of military

police force battalion to add some realism to

the battle in New York City. So those were legit.

Oh, go ahead. Adding adding on to what you were

saying about that, apparently the United States

government offered limited help because the movie

was too unrealistic. Nice. We already talked

about Chris Evans having to wear a prosthetic

face to cover up his facial hair in that final

cut scene. So that's kind of interesting. Now

this this you guys can speak of this I find this

interesting but I don't really know anything

about it because I don't know the the comic book

stuff so maybe you guys can help me out here,

but it says Well on the heli - heli -carrier

realized they were being turned against each

other via the mind manipulation from Loki, etc

when Banner unknowingly picks up the staff that

Loki has with him and Obviously uses it to do

that The tip of the spear has a blue sparkling

crystal at the end and it says many people believe

that the energy was from the cosmic cube But

it says that it's false and that it's actually

the blue infinite infinity gem that allows the

user to control others and enter the thoughts

of others. It is part of Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet,

which involves the Avengers taking on Thanos.

Yeah, that is part of that. But I think for the

sake of the movie and the general audience, they

just said it was part of the Tesseract. Did they

ever say that? Yeah. No, they said it functioned

the same. Roger said it functions the same way

as the other guns. And then Nick Fury said, not

really, or something like that. I didn't think

they ever said it was made from part of that.

I actually like that one even better, considering

the Infinity Gauntlet was in Thor. So I don't

know. I thought that was kind of an interesting

little tidbit. But that's all I had. Rankings,

I guess. Didn't we already go over the rankings,

though? We didn't rank where Eventful sits. We

were we ranked the Marvel movies we didn't say

that was before we brought Avengers into the

discussion though For me it would probably be

Avengers Iron Man one and two Captain America

Incredible Hulk and then Thor Yeah, I mean I

obviously said I said how I felt about all the

other ones and where I ranked them and I would

put Avengers at number one Yeah Steve I Would

put Avengers at number one followed by Iron Man

for sure I'm gonna go with the jury's out How

are you Dan? I would probably put Avengers number

one Iron Man right underneath it and then probably

after that Captain America I'm the only one that

likes Captain America better than Iron Man, dang

it Like 1a 1b 1c yeah So we're going to go to

a commercial break and we'll be back after this

are now sponsored by audible, which in in this

awesome podcast. Yes. Audible is giving away

for our listeners of the podcast a free audiobook

download with a free 30 day trial to give you

the opportunity to check out their service. I

went through last night actually and checked

it out a little bit more in depth and They have

all kinds of audiobooks in there. I for instance

because I know John Delance he does stuff in

there I I went searching through some I found

a bunch of Q related or the Spock versus Q and

those were in there. I like I looked up Star

Trek films. They have a Star Trek movie tie -in,

which is read by Zachary Quinto, which I thought

was kind of cool. The new Spock. But yeah, they

have tons of different audiobooks on there. So

if you're someone who would rather listen to

a book, then pick one up and read it. Or if you

work at a job like I do and listen to podcasts

all day, this is a nice alternative. So yes,

be sure to go to audible trial dot com slash

geek cast radio and yes that that would definitely

be something cool to check out awesome um overall

avengers is great as we've already said i will

definitely be going to see it again i really

really enjoyed it hopefully i can go with go

up to the theater where it's less crowded and

actually enjoy it without hearing a you know

Laughter track behind the movie half the time.

That's what like I said, though Sometimes or

like a dance that sometimes that adds to the

whole effect for me Sometimes but here's a grumpy

old man t -bob. Shut the hell up. I will say

that this is a this is I've seen movies more

than once in the theater, but it's always been

because 99 % of the time it's because I'm Going

with someone else that wants to go or this or

that. This is one of those rare rare occurrences

where I actually want to go see this again. Not

just I'm willing to go see it again. I actually

am going to go out of my way to see this again.

Yeah. Any final thoughts, Steve? Oh, I was going

to say I can definitely see seeing this movie

again because it was really good. I was very

skeptical walking into this film initially. So

having. watch the movie and laughing throughout

it and enjoying the various cues despite the

the errors that were throughout which were very

minor to say the least I definitely definitely

would have to recommend seeing this again and

I'm going to buy the whatever special blu -ray

edition that comes out for once Dan Well, I think

this has been like one of the you look at the

Avengers film as a whole like almost one of the

Biggest like projects ever done in movie history,

and I think they really pulled it off I mean

bringing four or five movies into into one and

kind of building up all these characters through

four years to this one moment It was kind of

crazy and I think it really paid off and it had

a lot of expectations It had a lot of hype and

for once the the hype matched the overall, you

know Entertainment value of the movie and it's

like you meant like you guys mentioned. I'm gonna

go see it again I saw it twice in one weekend.

I'm gonna probably get say it again again this

weekend It's just one of those movies that every

time we watch it There's always something else

that you notice that you didn't notice the time

before it's It's a great summer for geeks and

this is just getting us kicked off and I think

there's a lot more to look forward to and And

i'm kind of curious where marvel goes with it

Like it's going to be a challenge to kind of

do this all over again But they did it once so

I have faith in them that they can do it again

Oh, yeah. Yeah. My question is like like uh,

mike had brought up who's who's not with us right

now, but uh, what he brought up about not avengers

2 but The ones I am more interested to see how

they do it is is the the sequels to the individual

films. Yeah. Yeah Think it could benefit them

in a way because it kind of you can get a lot

more focus on those characters But you're gonna

it's gonna be it's gonna be kind of like the

cell phone in them in the cell phone issue in

horror films Like there's always like you're

always out of service. You're always you know,

otherwise you can call and like, you know There's

a killer next door and and now with the Marvel

movie It's gonna be like well Why aren't they

calling the Hulk to come and they're gonna have

to try to figure out a way maybe like I know

Iron Man 3 is supposed to be in China that could

be a big reason why maybe the whatever the issue

is, it's like, maybe it's not a world -friending

issue, it's more of a personal issue. I can deal

with the other people not being in them. What

I won't be able to deal with is anything that

contradicts anything we've already seen. Right.

Yeah. Well, didn't Nick Fury say at the end of

Avengers that, you know, hey, they've scattered.

They've gone their separate ways. That's what

I'm saying. So I can understand them not being

in each other's universe for the most part. They

can't contradict or have any inconsistencies

in the events that have already taken place.

Think what Marvel's gonna do is they're gonna

do what they've done all along You've built up

from Iron Man to Captain America and then you

and then they gave us Avengers throughout Iron

Man Iron Man to Hulk Cap and Thor They had those

in scenes With fury or who you know what whatever

the end scenes were you know the after credit

scenes they had all of those So they had the

after credit scene here with with Thanos and

then the little diner scene at the very end So

I'm sure an Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 and whatever

else a cap cap, too I'm sure they're gonna continue

doing those after credit scenes because that's

what Marvel Studios is known for now So I'm sure

they will have little connections, but it's not

going to affect the individual sequel films overall.

I mean sure the ramifications of what happened

in Avengers will. Right. The other question is

eventually will we see in Avengers, you know,

let's say Avengers 3 or Avengers 4, however long

it goes, will we eventually see eight multiple

villains that they're dealing with? Possibly.

I think, and I don't know, this is just my own

speculation here. I think what they probably

will work up to for Avengers 2 would be Ultron

or Ultraman or Ultron or whatever the fuck the

robotic villain is for Avengers. Ultron. Yeah,

Ultron. I think that's what they would work up

to for the Avengers 2, for Avengers 2. Because

that would be the one that kind of makes the

most sense, I would say. I guess a question too.

Are they going to add more heroes? I mean, there's

a lot of Avengers. There's been there's been

rumors about an Ant -Man movie. I don't know

if that's ever going to happen. I mean, I mean,

they may not want to like, you know, this is

what we have. We're going to work with this.

But like Kevin mentioned, I really want to see

how the Avengers and what happened in that movie

kind of affects these characters. And I mean,

three Thor to Captain America, too, because otherwise

it's kind of it's going to feel it's not going

to. It's gonna feel less if if the Avengers has

no impact whatsoever And that's the only thing

that will bring down Avengers of overall like

and as far as like if you're gonna look back

at this You know ten years from now or you know,

whatever as far as the history of comic book

movies The only thing that can hurt Avengers

legacy is what they do at these sequels which

there's hardly ever been a movie that Has that

much writing on its sequels to me? Right. Yeah.

Well, I mean this is the first, you know real

superhero team up live -action film and this

is the first time that this is really ever been

done in live -action as far as these comic book

characters go so you know it's just new around

I guess the only thing I see is they're gonna

need to introduce more people to the Avengers

only for the fact that some of these actors are

not gonna want to do this forever true and you

can just see Marvel and Disney wanting to milk

the hell out of it. I mean, they're doing a Pirates

five now. I mean, they're going to be going back

to National Treasure. Well, there's there's already

five or six. And you're right. You know, eventually

some people are not going to be available to

do it. And that's when you take the big chance

of recasting and stuff like that. I would actually

prefer to see. And I know, you know, maybe in

the comic book world, this doesn't happen very

often, but I would like to see character deaths

then. Yeah, in a way. Yeah, that. That would

be, that would be interesting. I think it would

be a good way to kind of explain. Well, and if

you look at, like, let's just take, let's take,

I don't know. Let's take Iron Man. Yeah, even

Iron Man. I mean, because it's not like you haven't

seen him already in Iron Man 1, 2, eventually

3, Avengers. It's not like you haven't used the

character and explored a lot with him. You know,

to where at some point these characters could

be expendable because they've done everything

they can with them anyway. And even in the comics,

other people have been Captain America. Other

people have been Iron Man. So, I mean, if they're

going to figure out a way, like, you know, let's

not recast somebody as Tony Stark, but maybe

we can bring in, you know, we were already recast.

Yeah, War Machine, we already crashed him twice,

so obviously at this point it doesn't matter.

But that'd be one good way of trying to figure

out, keeping it fresh, and it's going to get

to the point where these actors are just going

to command more money. And I actually would prefer

in Avengers 2 if we see somebody important. It

makes me sound morbid and bad, but I want to

see somebody important die in Avengers 2, because

that to me makes it more real. Right. Okay. So

is that it, guys? Until next time. Stop stealing

my lines, you had that. We hope you enjoyed this
