About this Episode

Mike and Steve dive into the Home Alone franchise with a focus on the original 1990 film and 1992's Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. They discuss the films' cultural impact, slapstick humor, iconic scenes, casting trivia, and briefly touch on the less-beloved third and fourth installments. Both hosts agree these Christmas movies are essential seasonal viewing despite some implausible plot points.

Where are you going? We're gonna miss the plane!

When the McAllister family left on their Christmas

vacation... Did we miss the flight? No, you just

made it. They forgot one small thing. What a

terrible feeling. Did you lock up? Yeah. Do we

set the timers on the lights? Mm -hmm. What else

could we be forgetting? Kevin! Home alone. Police

in the northern suburbs are on the lookout for

a pair of burglars who are calling themselves

the Wet Bandits. We know that you're in there.

It's Santa Claus and his elf. Get off my property.

This is my house. I have to defend it. Where's

your mother? My mom's in the car. Where's your

father? He's at work. What about your brothers

and sisters? I'm an only child. Where do you

live? I can't tell you that. Why not? Because

you're a stranger. He's a kid? I mean, what can

a kid do to us? Kids are stupid. I know what

I was. You still are, Marv. This is it. Now you

care if I have to get out on your runway and

hitchhike. I am going to get home to my son.

Why are you dressed like a chicken? Gus Polinsky,

polka king of the Midwest. If you have to get

to Chicago, we'll gladly drive you. Hey, guys.

Yesterday, he was just a kid. But tonight, he's

a home security system. You guys give up or you're

thirsty for more. From John Hughes. You know,

I got a feeling this is gonna be your best Christmas

ever. A family comedy without the family. Home

alone. Are you here all alone? I'm eight years

old. You think I'd be here alone? I don't think

so. Directed by Chris Columbus, coming November

16th. Hello and welcome to the Christmas 2011

episode of M .Y .E .R. brought to you by the

GeekCaster Radio Network. I am your host, TfG0

and Mike, and joining me is... Wait, who are

you? Where have you been? What the hell? Steve

Megatron. Hello. Yes, how are you sir? Good.

I've been missing A certain city has been calling

me China? Yeah, I know no I was making a Dark

Knight reference No, and I didn't set off a bomb

in a building so Not yet anyway. No, I've been

shot at, stabbed poisoned. Everything you can

think of. That's funny. So yes, what else have

you been up to besides Arkham City? Not much

else. Enjoying a week off. Oh cool. Awesome.

Which will be more of returning again later this

month. It is Christmas time, so. Yes. So we are

here today to talk about the Home Alone franchise.

We are going to mainly focus on the original

movie, the 1990 Home Alone film, and the 1992

movie Home Alone 2 Lost New York. We will mention

Home Alone 3 and 4, but we are not going to focus

on those movies. The main focus here is the original

Macaulay Culkin movies. So without any further...

the only two that matter come on all right well

look i'll get into that later damn it so Without

any further ado, here's JT with Just the Facts.

Hey guys, JT from Saskatoon here with today's

Just the Facts. If there's one film series that

every one of us geeks remembers, either fondly

or with a fiery hatred that only comes from being

forced to watch it each Christmas, and I can

assure you those people actually exist, it's

the Home Alone franchise. It's a series that

spanned almost 20 years, launched Macaulay Culkin

even further into the Hollywood limelight, and

has become a fixture of family get togethers

at Christmas time. The first film in the series,

Home Alone, opened on November 16, 1990. The

film follows the McAllister family as they prepare

to leave for a family Christmas in Paris. Young

Kevin McAllister, played by Culkin, is at odds

with his family, getting picked on by his cousins

and fighting with his older brother, Buzz. As

his mother sends him to bed, he wishes out loud

for his family to disappear. When he awakes the

next day, it appears as if his wish has been

granted, as a power outage results in the family

forgetting him at home in a mad rush to get to

the airport. Kevin revels in his freedom, jumping

on the bed, digging through his siblings' things,

and eating a lot of junk food. And while he has

his fun, his mother is desperately making her

way back across the Atlantic and home to Chicago.

Kevin keeps up the appearance his family is still

home and keeps running into old man Marley, a

neighbor who is rumored to be a murderer. Kevin

eventually finds out that his neighbor is simply

lonely for not having talked to his family for

years and Kevin suggests reconciling as family

is the most important thing during the holidays.

Kevin also crosses paths with the wet bandits

Harry and Marv, a pair of burglars who have been

hitting empty homes in the neighborhood. When

he discovers their intentions, Kevin devises

an intricate and somewhat devilish series of

booby traps to bedevil the two bumbling crooks.

Kevin nearly meets his end when they catch up

to him, but he is saved by old man Marley who

knocks the crooks out with a snow shovel upside

the head. On Christmas Day, Kevin's family arrives

home and they reconcile. The film ends with Buzz

shouting at Kevin about what he did. in his room

and Kevin running away. Almost two years later

to the day on November 20th, 1992, Home Alone

2 Lost in New York opened in theaters. This time

around, after getting into another argument with

his family, Kevin wishes for his own money to

take his own vacation as the family is headed

to Florida for the Christmas season. The power

goes out again, but this time Kevin actually

makes it to the airport with his family and then

is promptly separated from them. While the rest

of the McAllister clan heads to Florida, Kevin

inadvertently gets on a flight to New York City.

When he discovers he is alone in NYC with his

father's credit cards, Kevin decides to follow

his instincts and party in style. He scams his

way into a swank suite in the Plaza Hotel of

his dad's plastic. He tours the city in a limo

and makes friends with Mr. Duncan, the kindly

old owner of a large toy store. And of course,

his family is honed in his trail once they realize

he didn't get on the flight. and as luck or the

screenwriters would have it. Harry and Marv are

also wandering the streets of the Big Apple after

having escaped prison during a riot. Kevin crosses

their paths, and they give chase. When Kevin

makes it back to his hotel, he is confronted

by Mr. Hector, the concierge, about his scam,

and he is forced to escape again. Harry and Marv

catch up to him briefly, but he escapes once

he hears of their plaid to rob Mr. Duncan's toy

store. While running, Kevin meets a homeless

woman named the Pigeon Lady, whom he befriends

when she saves him from being hurt in Central

Park. Determined to stop his enemies, Kevin makes

his way to the vacant brownstone of his Uncle

Rob and rakes the place like he did the previous

Christmas. He then lures the bumbling burglars

to the brownstone after he sets off the toy store's

alarm by tossing a brick through the window,

along with a note from Mr. Duncan explaining

what happened. Kevin once again proves to be

too wily for Harry and Marv and nearly escapes

again, but they catch up to him. However, Kevin

is saved by his friend the Pigeon Lady. The film

ends with Kevin reuniting with his family in

the suite at the plaza and Kevin running away

when his father yells for an explanation for

the $960 room service bill. The first two Home

Alone films had a huge impact on moviegoers at

the time. Certainly a huge draw was the cast.

Across both films, Macaulay Culkin was supported

in his performances by Catherine O 'Hara and

John Hurt as his parents, and Joe Pesci and Daniel

Stern as Marv and Harry. The first film also

reunites Culkin with his Uncle Buck co -star

John Candy. Critics did not have a lot of love

for either of these films. Many critics like

Roger Ebert did not like the plot, calling it

so implausible and makes it hard to really care

about Kevin. Another element of the films that

divided critics was the film's liberal use of

slapstick humor. Some favored it, saying it was

a callback to The Three Stooges, while others,

like Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly,

called it a sadistic festival of adult bashing.

Harsh. Home Alone and Home Alone 2 also benefited

from those sitting behind the camera. The films

were directed by fan -favorite director Chris

Columbus and both were written and produced by

the John Hughes. The films dominated at the box

office, especially Part 1. Home Alone was so

popular that it remained in theaters long after

its initial run and went on to become the second

highest grossing comedy film of all time according

to Hollywood .com, with Part 2 clocking it at

number 15 on that list. By the end of both of

their theatrical runs, Home Alone and Home Alone

2 made over $830 million worldwide. The Home

Alone films did not end there however. Just five

years later in 1997, Home Alone 3 made its way

into theaters. Again written and produced by

Hughes, this time the story centers on the character

of Alex Pruitt, a grade schooler who discovers

a quartet of thieves breaking into homes in his

neck of the woods while he is homesick with a

chicken pox. Released in December of 1997, Home

Alone 3 was greeted with mainly negative reviews.

So many so, it was nominated for worst remake

or sequel at the Razzie Awards year losing out

to speed to cruise control surprisingly or not

so surprisingly Roger Ebert gave the film three

out of four stars saying it was better than the

first two sure it was Part 3 was then followed

by Home Alone 4 taking back the house in 2002.

This installment was actually meant to take place

between parts 1 and 2, bringing back many of

the same characters, but none of the same actors.

This was probably the worst received of all the

films in the Home Alone series, originally airing

as a made for TV movie. which also turned out

to be an attempt to create a backdoor TV pilot

for a potential series. Home Alone is a series

that like any franchise has its shares of ups

and downs. The series, well the first two films

anyhow, have become part of Christmas for many

families. This film made an even bigger household

name out of Macaulay Culkin and it proved old

school pros like Columbus and Hughes still had

what it takes. So just remember, should you miss

watching the Muppet Christmas Carol this year,

you got a fine backup with Home Alone. This has

been Just the Facts for the Home Alone series.

I'm JT from Saskatoon. Back to you guys. All

right, so thank you JT for those just the facts

when did you first see Home Alone, the first

movie. A long time ago. On television. On television?

Yes. My first film in theater had no live action.

It was animated. It had to do with a mask of

a phantasm. Oh, okay. Oh, you're one of the only

people that went to see it in theaters, okay.

Yes, and it was great. There was a whole 30 people

there Yeah, sadly that didn't do so well in theaters

and that it's what prompted them to go to direct

to DVD but yeah, no Home Alone I think I Don't

remember seeing it in theaters in 90 I Do remember

in 92 going to see Home Alone 2 in theaters,

but that we'll talk about that in a bit I think

the first time I saw this we rented it on VHS

and it was just, it's just such an awesome movie.

You know, as JT said in Just the Facts that some

critics kind of bashed it for the slap, the slapstick

is what makes it great. I mean, it's one of those

movies that at this point in time, it is a Christmas

classic. regardless of how you know people are

gonna review the movie or how people feel about

it because there are a lot of people out there

that probably don't like the Macaulay Culkin

home alone movies and that's fine that's that's

their opinion but you know I've always liked

it the entire cast is awesome I never really

cared for buzz I kind of wished Kevin would have

kicked him in the nuts a couple of times What

about you? How do you feel about this one? I

like this film. It was a nice starting out for

it anyway, and there were a lot of nice nods

to other people used in other John Hughes films.

Which a lot of them got recycled between this

film and a couple others in his Filmography so

Uncle buck the polka player well actually that

was more so based off of the planes trains and

automobiles character, but oh Yeah, that's right.

Uncle buck came wait the John Candy part in this

movie right no no no I'm Uncle buck with 89 though

wasn't it uncle buck came out a year before this

doesn't it? Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Yeah, because Culkin

is younger. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that's the... Again,

wow. Yeah, we're gonna have to eventually cover

Uncle Buck. But yeah, no, I mean, that's... Yeah,

you're right about planes, trains, automobiles.

I just... I think it was because of the fact

that I had seen this before I had seen Uncle

Buck. And... Just seeing the two like seeing

Culkin in that and then seeing candy in this

that's kind of why I got the the vibe of Uncle

Buck Yeah, I I I like a lot of the characters

that that show up in this film I like the premise

of it. I like it even more later on but Suffice

it to say I think it's quite Funny what they

did with this one, you know Yeah, it's pretty

amazing actually. I love the movie clip that

Angels with Silthier souls. Yes, I love that

and of course that again plays another role in

the second film which you know, I I like how

he uses that. Oh, yeah, there's in in the Harry

and Marv characters there's no way they should

have survived this Ever they the first time getting

hit hit with a pole or you know or or burned

or You know just paint cans Now for a long time

the paint can scene hmm He throws one he throws

two and then or wait no is it this I don't know

it's in one of them because I forget which I

forget if it's the first one or the second one

it's in one of them where I think it is the second

one where he throws the bar the third time and

I never noticed at first that once Kevin throws

the giant bar when the bar hits them they fly

back and they hit the paint cans on the way down

I think that is the second film. This one, the

slapstick in it is great. You know, just... You

know, what are you gonna do when someone tries

to break in your house? I mean, sure, the smart

thing would have been to call the police. You

know, this, that, and the other thing. But he's

a, what, nine, ten -year -old kid? So, yes, I'm

sure he knows in the back of his mind to call

the police, but as he said in the movie, this

is my house. I have to defend it. And he's a

kid. He's going to use his imagination to figure

out a way to stop these guys. I think the only

problem I really have with his antics are the...

And I don't know, I'm not sure if a 9 or 10 year

old would know this about throwing the hot water

on the steps because it's so cold outside it'll

automatically freeze. I think that's the one

thing that is kinda, you have to suspend your

disbelief if he actually knows that that's gonna

work. Well, I mean, how did he get paint cans

hanging from the ceiling that are gonna, you

know. I mean it just the tying them just right

so they don't fall I mean there's there's a lot

of you know ifs in this movie Yeah, that should

not have happened But they did so There you go

You have a favorite scene in the first movie

um I'd probably have to say where they're Constantly

getting beat up while outside the house. Oh,

yeah the between the slipping down the stairs

grabbing the extremely hot door handle or Getting

the head stuck in the the outside door Yeah,

oh yeah doggy door, I mean yeah Yeah, those would

be my favorite scenes out of all of them in this

particular film, right? If I had to pick one

for this movie, it's gotta be the blowtorch.

Oh, on his head. And then he sticks his head

in the snow. I mean, it's just the fact that

it's so, like, okay, you know, Kevin's dad told

him at one point, you know, stop playing with

my tools, don't play, don't mess around with

the blowtorch, it's dangerous. So the parent

did warn him, but the fact that he uses it to

his advantage... And it's like, okay, I know

he grabbed that, but what's he gonna use it for?

And then it just comes out of completely left

field when Harry opens the door and whoosh. I

just love this movie all around. Some trivia

bits here. The concept for the movie actually

originated during the filming of Uncle Buck in

which Macaulay Culkin plays a character who interrogates

a would -be babysitter through the letter box.

You mentioned earlier about angels with even

filthier souls or angels with filthy souls. The

the movie that Kevin watches on videotape is

not a real film, but footage especially created

It was called angels with filthy souls along

with the other similar error references in the

movie This is a play upon the movie angels with

dirty faces starring James Gagney I Didn't I

kind of figured that they produced this specifically

for it. Yeah, but It makes kind of sense I like

the fact that they made it look old, but it kind

of makes sense that it's not old. Right, yeah.

The role of Uncle Frank was originally written

for Kelsey Grammer. I can't see Frasier being

Uncle Frank. I just can't see that. Although

that would be kind of funny to see how they could

try and incorporate that. Yep. Joe Pesci's character,

Harry Lyme, is named after Orson Welles' character

from the film The Third Man. That's interesting.

It entered into the Guinness Book of World Records

as the highest box office gross comedy, accumulating

$533 million internationally. So that's kind

of cool. Yeah, that doesn't happen very often.

No. Of course it does in modern days, but comedies

generally don't get that high on the totem pole.

Yeah, true. I can't believe this. Well, I can

and I can't. And again, over MWire's course of

almost two and a half, three years that we've

been doing this podcast, we always talk about

people that were supposed to be cast in roles

that we just couldn't see them doing it. Robert

De Niro. was originally supposed to be hairy

but he turned it down. I just couldn't see that.

I just can't see De Niro being hairy. Yeah that

just doesn't work. No it does not at all. The

scene where Harry attempts to bite off Kevin's

finger, Joe Pesci actually bit Macaulay Culkin,

leaving his scar on his finger. Daniel Stern

agreed to have the tarantula put on his face

for exactly one take. He had to mind screaming

because the noise would have scared the spider,

and the scream was dubbed in later. Well, he

did a good job yeah, which I I Think honestly,

that's though that that's the other be besides

some of the you know cause and effects of Kevin's

traps Think that's the only other thing that

I dislike about this movie is that I've never

liked spiders or snakes or anything like that

So that's the one thing about this movie that

I just absolutely could not take even though

it was only in a couple of scenes Little Nero's

pizzas a parody of Little Caesar's pizza Caesar

was the title used by Roman emperors such as

Nero That's funny Yeah, or so for me because

I used to work there. Yes All this was in here

no, I'm just playing oh wow, I Don't I don't

see how I people are nuts No, yeah, I know but

the last two bits of trivia are our Casting trivia

is one for Kate McAllister one for Peter the

the parents I just can't see any of these people.

Okay, for Kate McAllister, people that were considered

for the role. Sigourney Waver, Diane Keaton,

Holly Hunter, Jodie Foster, Glenn Close, Gina

Davis, Jamie Lee Curtis, Stockard Channing, Carrie

Fisher. Yeah, no, Princess Leia cannot be Kevin's

mother. Kelly McGillis, Linda Hamilton. Terminator.

Huh? Terminator. Yeah, yeah. Laura Dern, Angelica

Houston. Oh, there's there's more Tisha. Sharon

Stone. No, there will be no basic instinct. Thank

you very much. Michelle Pfeiffer is Catwoman.

Oh, oops. Yeah, we don't mention that movie either.

Jessica Lang, Daryl Hannah, Deborah Winger and

Annie Potts. I can't see any of those people

like Catherine O 'Hara who played Kevin's mother.

She is the quintessential worried mother. I just

can't see any of those other actresses playing

his mother. And for Peter McAllister, the dad,

Michael Douglas, Kevin Costner, Martin Sheen,

Dan Aykroyd, John Travolta, Tom Skermet, Bill

Murray, James Belushi, Chevy Chase, Harrison

Ford, again, no. Oh, can you imagine? Han Solo

and Princess Leia as Kevin's parents, wow. Get

to the Millennium Falcon. Where's Chewie? Yeah,

there you go. Mine was horrible. Tom Hanks, Sean

Penn, Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, oh boy.

Rick Moranis and Dennis Quaid and Jack Nicholson.

See, it's not really a problem with Home Alone,

but the problem with Home Alone coming in 1990,

it came off the heels of Batman. So at that point,

everybody knew Jack Nicholson as the Joker. I

could not see Jack Nicholson as Peter McAllister.

Well, and honestly a lot of those are big -name

actors and I don't think that they would have

taken a pay cut to be in there for five minutes

That's that's probably true. That's probably

true overall. I really like home alone. It's

something that That I can watch Every Christmas

usually every Christmas. It's nice. It's very

rare that I get the the the inkling to watch

it any other time except at Christmas time. What

about you? Yeah, I kind of have to agree with

you on that one. I can't really sit there and

watch it any other time of the year. It's more

of one of those things that, yeah, I can watch

it right now because it's on TV. Yeah. I mean,

I love the movie. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely

love the movie. But it is a Christmas movie.

So... With that, let's get into the IGN replacement

crew. One to four. One, don't watch this even

if it's free. Worth a watch on TV is two. Three

is Netflix Q, which it's not currently on the

Instant Netflix. Home Alone 3 is, but the other

three aren't. Or four is, this one is a must

-add to your DVD collection. One to four, what

do you give it? I would give it a three, only

because I like the next one we're going to mention

better. I give it a four simply because it's

a classic Christmas movie and it's enjoyable.

It's a movie that you can turn yourself off to.

It's a movie you can sit down and watch and just

shut the entire rest of the world out of. And

overall, it's very, very enjoyable. And it is

on DVD, obviously. I'm sure there are special

editions. I'll mention the DVDs more before we

close the show. Moving on to Home Alone 2, Lost

in New York. Wow. This one was awesome. This

is my favorite out of the franchise. Yes. It's

funny. As soon as this movie came out, Two things

registered with me. Number one, I wanted a talk

boy. Oh yeah. His recorder thing. I never had

one but I knew friends that did and I always

wanted one. I always wanted one and never had

one. And I wanted to know. Okay, normally when

TV shows or movies use phone numbers, they will

fake them. When he's doing this when he's watching

the celebrity ding -dang -dong show and they

have the ad about the Plaza Hotel Back then in

1992. I actually called the 800 number and it

was the actual number to the Plaza Hotel in New

York City Wow Yep, that is just weird But I mean

hey if they're gonna pay, you know If they're

going to get paid to use their location, because

that was shot in the plaza as far as I know.

And really we didn't mention this before, but

Harry and Marv's whole shtick in the first film

was, well, Marv's shtick, with the wet bandits.

We turn on the water and flood the houses after

we rob them. Which... would turn half of the

Chicago neighborhood into Venice if the water

kept flooding. And in this film, because of the

scene at the ice rink, he's like, Harry, I got

it. We're no longer the wet bandits. We're the

sticky bandits. As he duct tapes it or masking

tapes his hand and steals from a Salvation Army

guy. Salvation Army guy stole mitten from a little

girl. uh... there is a whole bunch of stuff.

I have his arm stuck to a lady in the park. Yeah.

Who later comes into play. Oh yeah, we'll talk

about her a little bit later. Now, did you see

this one in theaters? I didn't see any of them

in theaters. I saw them all on television. Yeah,

I think I saw this in theaters, but I don't remember

if I did or not. I think I probably saw it on

VHS. At the time, we probably rented it, or someone

probably bought it. And it's not just rehashing

the first film. It's the continuing adventures

of the McAllisters, where they're going on another

trip. But this time, instead of being left at

home, because they learned their lesson from

last time, You know, Kevin gets the switcheroo

in the airport just because he needs batteries.

Which kind of... I know they're running late,

but no parent is just going to... Forget their

kid. Keep going and let their kid stand there

to get batteries without standing there with

them. They would have dragged them. Yeah. Yeah,

so... That's... That's kind of a... Sore point

on this one What about you? What did you like

about this one? Well, I like the the park the

fact that um The the hotel manager Tim Curry

Who's kind of a creep? Rob Schneider in it. Yeah

The the fact that he tips him in gum Yeah, the

creepy old lady that ends up helping him. Yeah,

I much prefer old man Marley to her. I mean,

she's a nice little lady, but I just didn't really

care for her at all. Everybody in that hotel

was kind of creepy. Moe with the gimpy leg, Cliff.

Cliff? Yeah. No, it's not true. Yeah, when they

played that scene again. Yeah, I love that I'd

have to say like like for instance where he uses

that clown dummy and then has his uncle in the

shower and he uses that and he has that talk

boy and Makes the the hotel manager freak out

Thinking he's just committed, you know, which

he did commit a crime kind of breaking into the

guy's room Well, they had a key card so I mean,

but yeah, I mean it is technically an invasion

of privacy So yeah That was quite entertaining

and then when he plays the the video of the Early

the recording of the guy Basically trying to

kill them again Yeah, so yeah, I love that whole

whole way that the whole thing is played out

Love how in that scene that they Make the tea

like the TV is so loud that it actually seems

like it's gunshots coming out of the room From

the machine from the Tommy gun I love when they're

crawling in the hallway. Oh, yeah, and then everybody's

like Don't be alarmed Yeah, I love in the It's

so hilarious because once he gets there and he

realizes he has all this and all that and pretty

much checks into the into the hotel by himself

and runs into Donald Trump, which isn't surprising

at all. I love how he goes to the pool and says,

anybody mind if I practice my cannonballs? And

yeah, he's a little too young to be cannonballing.

Or he needs to put some weight on himself because

he should not cannonball. No. Talk about deep

pantsing someone. He did it to himself. I know.

And then, you know, we get to the point of Harry

and Marv find out that he's there and... and

all that hilarity ensues and the sticky bandit

thing and Kevin actually tricks the pretty lady

into thinking that Harry and Marv touched her

ass which she promptly turns around and basically

cold cocks them both in the face which was hilarious

yeah and then we get to the old renovated house

which I like the I like the the twist on the

blowtorch where you have the kerosene in the

toilet oh yeah and then the rope was soaked with

kerosene and he lit the rope and like go back

up go back up Yeah, there was a lot of a lot

of good slapstick in this one Again just you

know a movie that you can You know just shut

the world off Just pay attention be in the moment

of the movie and just really enjoy it And overall

a really good story You know, the whole thing

about him trying to do the right thing of stopping

Harry and Barb from robbing the toy store. Mr.

Duncan giving him the two turtle doves and he

gives one to the pigeon lady and he keeps one.

And because of all this mix up with the family

being in Florida, him being in New York and using

the credit cards, the hotel actually, you know,

gives them all this stuff. Which is very, very

awesome. Only time in the two movies that I love

Buzz is when he gives the gum tip. That was awesome.

He didn't just give him a piece of gum as a tip,

he took it out of his mouth. Did I give him a

pack? No, he took it out of his mouth. No. ross

neider to get out of his mouth when uh... the

kids as they would i don't you need you need

a tip and then he's is no i got plenty of temporary

here that is a lot of money and and he's like

no no no no and they slammed the door to space

uh... that's right uh... as was it and of course

the very end nine hundred and sixty seven dollars

on room service which it's kind of unbelievable

that The that Peter could yell that loud and

it would reach Central Park. I know the Plaza

is like right off of the park, but And I know

they're trying to embellish it but that's still

it's it's one of those things where you have

to suspend your disbelief on it. Oh, yeah What

else did you like about this one you have a favorite

scene in this one Like I said before I love where

the anything to do with the hotel room where

they're Scaring the crap out of the people that

work there Yeah Those would be my favorite parts

of the movie, but I also like the fact that um

That end part where the the room service charges

are noticed Yeah And as I said before, both films

are on DVD. There's actually one where it's,

excuse me, Home Alone The Complete Collection,

which I believe, I'm looking it up here in Amazon,

has all four movies. Has one, two, three, and

four. But it also, Amazon also lists Home Alone

The Family Fun Edition, which I'm... Assuming

it's kind of like a special edition. It has Lost

in New York. A Family Fun Edition is also on

Blu -ray, so it has Lost in New York. The complete

collection is also on Blu -ray as well. Not that

you wouldn't want the other two movies on Blu

-ray. Which are horrible. Alright, well. So I

think... What we're going to do here is we're

going to take a commercial break, we're going

to hear some ads, and then we'll come back and

we will briefly discuss Home Alone 3 and 4, and

then we will close the show after that. So we'll

be back after this. Hello, Nets! This is Jesse

Warner here and you're listening to a podcast

on the Geekcast Radio Network. Lucky you. Alright,

we are back and it is time to briefly discuss

the last two films in the franchise. We're gonna

start with Home Alone 3, which stars Alex D.

Lynn's Lenny Von Dolan, David Thornton, Kevin

Kilner, Seth Smith, like the only really... Interesting

name interesting two names off here are Alex

D Lenz and Scarlett Johansson She played Molly

Pruitt Alex's older sister This movie does not

tie into the other two it is basically a standalone

movie, but they wanted to capitalize on The premise

of being home alone it has nothing to do with

Christmas I mean it kind of does I mean it takes

place around Christmas time, but it really has

Nothing like I don't know it just doesn't really

have anything to do about Christmas like I think

they mentioned that they're You know schools

out for Christmas break other than that nothing

really Alex is home with the chickenpox and he's

sick and he has this creepy old neighbor misses

What's her name? I forget what her name is off

the top of my head. I've got it right here. Damn

it. What the hell. Mrs. Hess. And it's okay.

It's not the worst remake in the world. Alex

is a funny character. The parrot is a funny kind

of sidekick. I'd rather have the parrot than

the tarantula. And the basic premise is Alex

has a remote control that is hiding a microchip

and these international thieves or criminals

want to get it back. Haney has to set up a whole

bunch of traps just like Kevin did. I don't know,

it's kind of cool. It's okay. And I know you

don't like it, but... Fourth one. But I'd actually

rather watch the second or first. I don't care

for the third or fourth at all. Right. They were

unneeded. And it's quite surprising that such

crap came out of the same guy that made Home

Alone, Home Alone 2, you know, freaking flubber,

drill bit, Taylor. Then you know Dennis the menace

Christmas vacation vacation Ferris Bueller, you

know all that kind of stuff I mean, and you've

got these two pieces of garbage. Well, okay three

really isn't a piece of garbage it stands on

its own Right it stands on its own now where

the garbage You know the garbage slinging comes

in is the fourth one and complete recasting if

you can't get everybody back Don't do it exactly

This one is just horrible. It's believed to be,

as JT said in Just the Facts, it's believed to

be set between the two films, two original films.

He claimed to be eight years old in the original.

In Home Alone 2, Kevin tells his daughter to

tell her manager he's ten. In Home Alone 4, Kevin

tells his mother he is nine years old, making

Home Alone 4 an interquel. However, no official

announcement has confirmed that there are an

infamous amount of continuity errors associated

with this idea. I can't even talk about this

one. I mean, I'll talk about the casting, but

other than that, just the whole idea of this.

When I first saw a TV commercial for this, I'm

like, really? Oh, god. French Stewart as Marv.

That's not even cool. Seeing almost acts more

like The other one yeah, so I mean it's kind

of hard to decipher what the hell they were trying

to do here. Yeah apparently The producers had

hoped that this movie would lead into a home

alone TV series several of the main cast members

and Clauses in their contracts that would have

bought them back for such series The movie failed

to perform up to expectations and ratings and

in turn the series was never commissioned Okay,

I can see where Okay, it's 2011 the Beverly Hills

Cop movies have long You know been done and gone.

I mean, yes, they live on an infamy, but they're

they're they're done with Yeah, I can see maybe

wanting to get a TV series of that But I honestly

hate when you have a really two really great

films in Home Alone 1 & 2 They want to make a

TV series out of them after like off plots of

films do not need to be like God, it just pisses

me off when they want to take it to a TV series

because It wouldn't make any sense Yeah, having

him break out every error have so many attack

his house every day that would be retarded. Yeah

That's only a movie fitting Plot line Yeah, yeah,

so yeah, Home Alone 4 sucks. So in other words,

don't watch anything past the first two. If you

want a slightly different story, you can watch

Home Alone 3, but as far as overall quality,

1 and 2 are the best. I will say that. So I think
