About this Episode

TFG1Mike and MovieRevolt Dan dive into Michael Bay's 1998 blockbuster about a team of deep-core drillers sent to space to stop an asteroid from destroying Earth. They discuss the film's cast (Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi, Michael Clarke Duncan), its special effects, the infamous logic of training drillers instead of training astronauts, and why it remains an entertaining escape despite its plot holes. Both hosts rate it highly as a fun, action-packed popcorn film that works as pure entertainment.

This is historic. Guys, this is like deep blue

hero stuff. Of course I'm in. While I don't share

joining me is movie revolt Dan. Hello. How are

you? I'm doing well, how are you? Well, we've

got this episode and then the next episode in

the 90s flashback is over Wow, it's oh feels

the party like it's 1999. I guess Yeah, they'll

be next episode We're almost there Yes, we're

almost there because you know, apparently back

then, you know, this was the end of the world

as we know it I am holy crap. Alright, so in

episode 98 If you fine listeners have been paying

attention to my numbering skills, every film

that we've talked about in the 90s flashback

has corresponded to the episode number and the

year that that film got released. And in episode

98 is no exception. This time around we're talking

about that Michael Bay blockbuster, which at

times it just did not feel like a Michael Bay

movie at all, Armageddon. Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler,

Ben Affleck, Will Patton, May He Rest In Peace,

Michael Clarke Duncan, Steve Buscemi, all those

people. When did you first see this? Actually,

I didn't see it in theaters. I saw it on DVD,

or I think it was DVD, probably VHS. I don't

think I owned a DVD player at that time. but

actually kind of a funny story with this movie

when it comes to seeing it. It happened in one

of my high school classes. We had a chemistry

class and for whatever reason one day my teacher

was going to show this movie and we started watching

it and I had block schedules so it's an hour

and a half. So we couldn't watch the whole thing.

The teacher said oh, okay. We'll finish what

we don't see the next day So we don't finish

it the next day We start the movie again and

the teacher wasn't watching it. So she's like,

okay, where'd you leave off? We're like 30 minutes

into the movie. It's like oh, this is where we

left off So we stopped there and we're you know,

we still got two more hours, you know another

Yeah, we go a little bit further we ended up

spending about a week and a half watching them

again and over and over and over again Just because

we're like, oh we just this is where we stopped

It was it went on for a very long time until

eventually she's like, alright, I think we're

gonna do something else It was near like I think

Christmas break. So it was that time of the year

We weren't really doing much to begin with but

it was just so I've watched this movie a lot

They're almost to the point of ad nauseam. But

yeah, that was the first time I saw it was in

was on VHS back in that day I Definitely it might

have been like one of those dollar theaters,

but I definitely saw this in theaters Oh my god,

this movie was epic. And you know what made me

get to see it in theaters? The McDonald's commercials!

I was going to say, it wasn't the Aerosmith song?

No. No. It was the McDonald's commercials because

this was before Mer - uh, Mergen? Who the hell

is Mergen? This was before Morgan Spurlock did

his whole oh, supersize me and - before they

did away with the whole supersize thing at McDonald's

because I just I was looking for Bussemi's line

of I had a great seat picked out there for the

end of the world or whatever he says something

about the end of the world when they're on the

asteroid and I was looking for that line on YouTube

and I couldn't find it so I'm thinking maybe

it's in the old McDonald's commercials and I

looked them up and I'm like oh my god they said

supersize back then I miss supersize fries I

really do You realize that they're the same thing

now, they're just called large. I know. Just

a buzzword. Yeah, it's just the marketing. It

makes you feel good, babe. Yeah, that makes me

feel really old. No, this movie was so good.

It just was. The action was... realistic it wasn't

like so overblown there was maybe one Michael

Bay shot like like remember when we were talking

about bad boys how he has that that that up crane

shot that he does there was one kind of like

freeze frame focus on each each of the astronauts

shot where they're walking actually no there's

two when they're boarding the shuttles and when

when they come home He did it twice, but I love

this movie. This movie is so good. I guess I'm

not as huge a fan as you. I do enjoy it. It's

one of those movies I can recognize what it is.

It's like three dimensions. We'll get to the

justice facts in a moment, but it is that definition

of a popcorn movie. The plot, when you coil it

down, you're like, this doesn't really make sense.

What's interesting, even Ben Affleck has previously

told Michael Bay, it's like, wouldn't it make

more sense to train the astronauts how to drill

instead of training people how to be astronauts?

And Michael Bay told him to shut up, which is

kind of interesting. Which sounds like Michael

Bay. It's kind of interesting. We've gone through

a lot of Michael Bay films within this podcast,

you know, we talked about the bad boys movies,

you know, seeing the evolution of his career

from bad boys one, his first film to this and

how he became, you know, he still is like the

go -to action director of his day and partnering

up with Jerry Bruckheimer as producer and, and

yeah. See, that's what I think. Like when I,

like when I watch this movie, This to me and

I know I know Brockheimer does most of the producing

stuff. I don't he doesn't he's not a director

Is he he isn't has Brockheimer directed anything?

Well, I know he he recently directed some episodes

of House of Cards that he was the new sick Kevin

Spacey series on Right, but I mean like big -budget

blockbuster films as he I don't know if he has

off to also look him up but but Brockheimer to

me This is more of like his vision of Okay, sure

the plot is Michael Bay's you know and and some

of the actions, but this just feels more of What

Jerry would want in a film versus how Michael

Bay would do it to me. I don't know it just I

Just see it more as a as a Brockheimer film than

I do a Bay film. He is not directed in the past.

He's mostly known for being the producer. He

produces pretty much everything from TV to movies.

I don't know. The way I see it as a Michael Bay

film is more so in the editing and how frenetic

it is and how the cuts are. I mean, just see

a cut longer than... 30 seconds is almost really

long in this movie because it's going from thing

that you know from moment to moment to moment

Especially and I think a big reason why I said

this cast is gigantic It has I mean Owen Wilson

is like 12th on the cast list Yes, I mean he

wasn't a big star at this point. He did a few

things like he was already I think he was in

bottle rocket and some smaller films, but I mean,

the cast is crazy with the amount of people,

like character actors, huge stars. Oh, yeah.

I mean, Michael Bay does tend to get cast, but

this might be one of his best just with the depth

of it. It's kind of crazy. I mean, you have Keith

David and Billy Bob Thornton, you know, Bruce

Willis. Playing off of each other. Yeah, exactly.

Yeah, so. But yeah, I could say you do see a

lot of influence from Jerry Brockheimer because

he's a guy who... I think they really benefited

from each other regarding success because I think

when he kind of stepped in and made Michael Bay

just like you know the the guru of the summer

blockbuster because it seems like Every movie

he makes it just becomes more and more bigger

and batter and more popular. It makes more money.

So Yeah, I mean and the other thing for me it's

not necessarily the soundtrack and this is good

and we'll talk about that a little bit more later,

but For me what makes this film is Trevor Raven's

score like I've said this before I Back in the

day. I didn't really pay attention to This like

I paid attention to the score I never paid attention

to as like the people that did the score as far

as like knowing their names now I know Anything

and everything that most of the composers do

that I like in film like Hans Zimmer and like

I said, Trevor Rabin did this You know and just

the score that he the instrumentals that he put

together for the background music for this film

is just so amazing it does kind of get drowned

out by the by the Soundtrack as you know, cuz

I mean this was back when the music videos still

kind of happened I remember how that music video

for Armageddon was so It was played a lot at

that time and the don't want to miss a thing

that was actually my prom song crazy enough But

and so I think people forget it I do agree the

scores a lot better than people give a credit

for it's I've always been one of those people

that I can I can separate them You know sure

you hear mr.. Big time from Bon Jovi in the beginning

but then later when they're doing those freeze

frame slow -mo shots and the score it like I

I can pick out a score from an actual like soundtrack

stuff and it might seem like that to some people

that the soundtrack does drown the score out

but for me it doesn't more when I say drawn it

out I meant more so in popularity it's oh well

yeah yeah that because most people don't most

most of the general audience at least in my opinion

they don't really recognize dance like oh that's

nice instrumental I like that but like me I we'll

have to do something either on geek cast radio

or or M wire about films could probably hear

here on M wire about film scores because film

scores are awesome to me like I don't like a

lot of classical music, but I don't mind instrumental

when it's really good and especially coming from

movies that I might have loved. Oh, hey, I like

that instrumental piece. I'd like to listen to

that without the movie. And it's just, it's so

powerful. It just is. Elevate yes, it's Elevate

a movie a good movie to a great movie like I

know people love storewares and I'm right there

with you But I think a big factor of what makes

that movie memorable is John Williams score it

I think that's if you remove that score. It's

not as effective and I think maybe why people

Aren't as with Michael Bay when it comes to scores.

I honestly I don't think he uses them as best

as he could He he tends to I don't know he he

doesn't seem to like to shine the limelight away

from himself in some ways Like he can't let a

score breathe for long for long periods of time

kind of gets snippets here and there but anyways,

but yeah, I think doing an overall podcast and

scoring would be pretty pretty awesome because

I do love scores. I love scores that are kind

of Fit the mold of the movie and kind of you

know help Elicit a lot of emotion that you otherwise

may be a mess or kind of make you feel a certain

mood so Out of the three big movies we've talked

about here in the 90s flashback with bad boys

one and two and then and now this I Got to say

he let the score breathe in bad boys one because

it was a good two or three minutes before you

heard any lines or any sound effects in bad boys

one with that not I'm not trying to make the

jaws sound but that That beginning track in the

first bad boys film that went on for a little

while before the car before the carjacking scene

So that was very interesting. Alright, so let's

Head it on over to JT from Saskatoon with just

the facts for Armageddon We spend two hundred

and fifty billion dollars a year on defense and

here we are The fate of the planet is in the

hands of a bunch of retards I wouldn't trust

with a potato gun. As the film begins, the crew

of the space shuttle Atlantis are in orbit making

repairs on a satellite when they are struck by

a meteor shower that obliterates the crew and

the shuttle. The citizens of Earth are no safer

as meteors strike at New York City and other

cities around the world wreaking havoc and killing

many people. Scientists at NASA soon discover

the cause of the devastation, a ginormous asteroid

the size of Texas traveling through space at

speeds of up to 22 ,000 miles per hour. an hour

that will strike the Earth with enough force

to end all life on it. With only 18 days left

to prevent the end of the world, NASA, with the

help of other space agencies around the world,

come up with a solution. Land a team on the asteroid

and drill into its interior, plant a nuke, and

blow it, causing the planet killer to split apart

and miss Earth. However, the nuke must be planted

and detonated before a certain deadline, or the

plan won't succeed. NASA then locates Harry Stamper,

considered by many the best deep core driller

in the world. NASA arrives to pick up Harry at

his latest drill site as he chases his daughter's

new beau and one of his crew, A .J. Frost, around

the rig with a shotgun. Harry agrees to come

and takes Grace along to keep her from A .J.

Once they arrive at Cape Canaveral, the Stampers

are met by Dan Truman, head of NASA, who informs

them about their impending doom. Harriet agrees

to help but demands that he and his crew accompany

the astronauts on this mission so that they can

get it done right. You got it. So you're saying

you'll help us? Yes, sir. Thanks. I just don't

trust anybody else to do it, that's all. Harry

and Grace quickly bring the crew together which

includes Chick Chappell, Harry's crew chief,

Strongman Bear, Rockhound, and AJ who Harry dislikes

because he wants more than the blue -collar life

for Grace. After the team is collected and told

what is at stake, they make a few demands before

signing on. Well, as an example, Oscar here's

got some outstanding parking tickets. Once I'm

wiped off his record. Fifty -six tickets in seven

states. I'll tell him, Oscar. You got it. Okay.

Noonan's got two women friends that he'd like

to see made American citizens. No questions asked.

Max would like you to bring back eight track

tapes. Not sure if that's gonna work, but...

Let's see what this chick wants. Full week's

Emperor's package at Caesar's Palace. Hey, you

guys wouldn't be able to tell us who actually

killed Kennedy, would you? Bear would like to

stay at the White horse White House White House

White House. Yeah, he'd like to stay in the Lincoln

bedroom of the White House for the summer stuff

like that Sure, I think we can not Harry and

his men are then subjected to an intensive 12

-day training regiment in order to prepare them

for outer space. When not training, the team

modifies and re -equips two mobile drilling platforms

called Armadillos. Unfortunately, the existence

of the meteor and the clandestine rescue operation

are revealed to the world after another meteor

shower destroys Shanghai, China. On launch day,

Grace says goodbye to her dad and asks him to

bring AJ back to her, revealing that he proposed

to her during training. The two shuttles, Freedom

and Independence, are launched and both soon

dock with the Russian space station crewed only

by cosmonaut Lev Andropov in order to fuel up

for the flight to the asteroid. However, the

trip is nearly cut short when a liquid oxygen

leak causes a catastrophic system failure, destroying

the space station. AJ and Lev are nearly caught

in the blast, but manage to board in dependence

at the last second. The two shuttles continue

on towards their destination, slingshotting around

the moon in order to approach the asteroid through

its wake, where it's believed that they will

have an easier time landing. But as they approach,

The shuttle Independence is struck by debris

and crashes, the crew believe to be dead. However,

Lev, AJ and Bear all survive the crash and saddle

up in their armadillo and begin the long trek

towards shuttle Freedom's landing site. The Freedom

crew manage to make it down safely, but they

overshoot the projected landing zone by a few

miles and must now drill through compressed iron

ferrite, which hinders their progress. so much

so that Air Force General Kimzey orders secondary

protocol activated which will blow the nukes

prematurely in hopes that the asteroid will be

nudged off course. While Truman delays Kimzey

at mission control, Harry and Chick manage to

convince mission commander Willie Sharp that

they will hit their 800 foot depth before the

deadline. After Sharp and his co -pilot deactivate

the bomb, the drilling continues. However, their

next challenge comes in the form of Rockhound,

who develops a case of space madness and starts

shooting up the drill site before he is subdued.

Not only that, crew member Max, who is manning

the armadillo, is blasted into space when the

drill hits a gas pocket. The crew is despondent

and about to admit defeat when Salvation arrives

in the form of AJ and company, who have finally

made it to the drill site in their armadillo.

Drilling continues, and the team hits 800 feet,

but a sudden rockstorm damages the nuke's radio

receiver, meaning one of the crew will have to

stay and sacrifice himself for the good of all.

They draw straws, and AJ draws the short one.

Harry accompanies him outside, but suddenly disconnects

AJ's air supply, takes the remote trigger, and

shoves AJ back inside the shuttle's airlock.

As shuttle Freedom launches, Harry radios grace

to tearfully say goodbye and gives his blessing

to her marrying AJ. With his life flashing before

his eyes, Harry detonates a nuke just in time

to split the asteroid, causing the two halves

to miss planet Earth by 400 miles on either side.

The Freedom shuttle crew arrive back on Earth,

though not without some trepidations. Hailed

as heroes, the surviving crew are met by their

loved ones, and the fallen are memorialized while

A .J. and Grace tie the knot, ending the film.

Opening in theaters on July 1st, 1998, Armageddon

was directed by Michael Blow -It -Up -A -Real

-Good -Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer

and Gail Ann Hurt. The film starred Bruce Willis,

Ben Affleck, Will Patton, Billy Bob Thornton,

Liv Tyler, William Fincher, Steve Buscemi, and

the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. Armageddon

was not well received at all by critics upon

its release. Variety film critic Todd McCarthy

likened the frenetic pace of Michael Bay's directing

to that of a machine gun left firing for two

and a half hours. Rolling Stone film critic Pete

Travers called the film and I quote the unholy

spawn of the dirty dozen and con air However,

not everybody hated the film. Jeff Overstreet

of LookingCloser .com said the film was a Godzilla

-sized blockbuster that had its heart in the

right place. The best and most honest endorsement

of the film came from Joe Blow of JoeBlow .com

who said this movie was exciting, packed with

action, humor, some tender moments, and doesn't

pretend to be anything more or less than what

it is. A nacho -munching, popcorn -eating cheese

fest with special effects, fun, and 144 minutes

of brainless entertainment. Amen, sir. Well said.

Because of the nature of the script and the previous

success of Top Gun some years earlier, Michael

Bay was allowed by NASA to film in some of the

normally closed off areas of the space agency.

This included the scenes in the Neutral Buoyancy

Lab and the Apollo 1 launch pad. As for other

aspects of the film, did you know that the demands

that Harry reads to Truman were actually written

suggestions by the cast members themselves? or

that Rockhound's line about the rocket being

built by the lowest bidder was a play on an actual

comet made by Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard

just prior liftoff. Not that this was the only

tidbit of NASA lore that Rockhound is bound up

in. After he gets the space madness, the rest

of the crew bind him up in duct tape, which is

an actual rule for any astronaut that goes loopy

while on mission. Does it surprise anyone that

I love Armageddon? No, not really. Joblo nailed

it with his review. This was the perfect summer

blockbuster movie. Explosions, action, adventure,

a crew of anti -hero misfits saving the day led

by John motherfucking McClane. What more do you

need? And how can anyone possibly deny the sheer

fun factor in this film? In fact, while reading

the negative reviews for this film, I could only

hear this from their words. Just because you

think a lot doesn't mean you won't enjoy a movie

if you don't. Just saying, people. This has been

Just the Facts for Armageddon. I'm JT from Saskatoon,

signing off and sending it back to the rest of

the crew on today's M -Wire. But one more thing.

The person that finds her gets the name, right?

Yes, that's right. That's right. I want to name

her Dottie after my wife. She's a vicious, life

-sucking bitch from which there is no escape.

Let's bet sweet carl. All right. Thank you once

again JT for the awesome just the fact stuff

that you do for us here at M wire Yeah, this

plot Interesting you said earlier that Wasn't

wasn't Bruce will it was Ben Affleck Yeah, but

he said though. He said to Michael Bay. Why not

train astronauts to drill versus what they actually

did I? Kind of see Harry's point though In the

movie with the plot about having the drillers

go up I see the point where you have to trust

the people that you're working with and if you

just get thrown into a situation You don't know

these people from from from you know a hole in

the wall. I can kind of see why they did it that

way yeah, and I think to it makes the characters

more relatable because It kind of adds that comedic

edge to it Plus, I don't think many people would

see Steve Buscemi as an astronaut. You can buy

him as a driller, but seeing him as an actual

astronaut, it's a little odd. If you look at

a lot of the conflict that occurs in the movie,

a lot of it has to do with them trying to get

used to, it's like the fish out of water, them

trying to deal with space and pushing them in

that situation. I think you can maybe have a

more straightforward film. with with astronauts

in a drill, but a more fun kind of comedic summer

action movie. I think, you know, Michael Bay

was right in doing it that way. So it just, I

think, depends on what you're going for with

your story. Yeah. And one thing I do not I cannot

believe about this film. This is a Disney movie.

Well, not technically, but Touchstone Pictures

is Disney's version of. It's their way of doing

adult films, and I don't mean adult as in get

your brains out of the gutter audience like grown

-up PG -13 not animated films And that's why

touchstone pictures was created was so that they

could do films like this films like National

treasure down the line stuff like that You know

you mentioned earlier that you did not see this

in theaters you probably saw it on video The

funny thing is I still have my video cassette

from 1998 And I know I'm holding it in my hand

right now I'm looking at the tape and it's probably

about 25 minutes into the movie I didn't I guess

I wasn't kind and I didn't rewind but I Will

actually take a picture of this and put it in

the post so people can see I still have a video

cassette from 1998 of Armageddon That's pretty

that's pretty funny Do you even own a VCR still?

No. So you're not going to be able to rewind

that. Oh, man. Yeah, I know. Your late fees are

probably astronomical. I could go to Radio Shack

and I could get one of those rewinders because

my uncle used to have one of those all the time.

We actually had one too. Those separate rewinders

that you take it out of the VCR, you just put

it in there and it rewinds it automatically without

having to use the VCR heads. Yeah, I remember

getting that and thinking we're now in the future.

One other interesting thing about Armageddon,

we're talking about the VHS, is the fact there

was actually a criterion release of the DVD,

and for those who, like, what's criterion? I

know a lot of people know what it is, but criterion

is, there are people who kind of devote, there

is a great group that devotes themselves to making

DVDs, Blu -rays, extensive Blu -rays of films

that they feel are important. Usually there are

health films, like 400 Blows, Eight and a Half,

you know, classic Fellini films. and it's still

kind of they've done criterion films though of

both Armageddon and the Rock and it's crazy because

For them to do a film they have they have to

feel like there's some sort of importance to

it So that's kind of a weird thing another strange

aspect of the screenplay is that JJ Abrams who

we all know and love today who's going to be

doing Star Wars also had a Wrote on part of the

screenplay for Armageddon as well So he's been

in space a few times way back when in 1998. So

it's kind of interesting Yeah very interesting

All right. So what do you? How do you feel about

the story that's told in the film? What do you

think of just the overall plot and everything

else? It is ridiculous, but I think it calls

itself out enough. You know, they have that moment

with Sipri Shemi, and Billy Bob Thorin is showing

the model with the two shuttles on a stick, showing

what's gonna happen, and he's like, so this is,

I've seen this, this is like when the Roadrunner

gets a rocket up the ass or something, I forget

the exact wording. So I think it kind of realizes,

okay, this... The reality aspect of this doesn't

really make sense. You're not really gonna be

able to go on an asteroid and walk around as

easily as they do. I think it's fine. It's not

this fantastic, amazing story. It puts a different

spin on the classic, the world's gonna end, and

it's a lot better than the other. Asteroid film

that came out the same year in deep impact. I

think it's just It's better told and there's

more to it and it's it's quick. It's quickly

it flows very quickly. The pace is very It never

really stops. Like I mentioned that there's not

many cuts It kind of goes through things really

quickly and I think too there is a somewhat of

a heart there beyond just like, you know Bruce

Willis and his daughter Ben Affleck and his love

and twist I think will patent and this has the

kind of the unsung story he's like the hidden

gem in this movie with his story with his son

and i think he's maybe one of my favorite characters

in the entire movie so and i think it does handle

all those different characters well for the most

part some get all have their own moments so what

what did you think of the story no i love it

i think it's a great story it's armageddon is

a movie and i've said this before movies, TV

shows, any kind of media. It's supposed to be

an escape. You're not, yes, I know we sit here

and we review it and people on the internet review

it and look at stuff and whatever else, but,

you know, it's supposed to be an escape. It's

supposed to be something that you don't have

to believe that it could happen. And I love the

overall story. There are a couple moments where

it's like, oh, come on, let's go. But for the

most part it is a very solid film. The characters

are all so different yet they all get along for

the most part. I would have liked somehow some

explanation because when Harry is essentially

escorted off his own rig by the master sergeant

or whatever that dude was He asked the guy did

crazy Willie put you up to this and I assume

they're talking about Colonel sharp, but when

they meet It seems like they don't know each

other at all. It seems like Harry and sharp are

meeting for the first time I Thought I thought

me I thought I was just supposed to be someone

like one of his friends or something I didn't

know if it was supposed to be an actual person

like well Well, right, but that's what I'm saying.

Like that's what I thought I thought thought

Sharp was supposed to be that friend that's that's

what I'm saying but then when they meet each

other they're basically you know there's nothing

there but anyway but no overall I love it the

little crocodile hunter quote -unquote sex scene

is kind of cheesy but you know it's You know

AJ has a point you know if something like that

happened Where would you be you would be with

your loved ones whether it's a fiance whether

it's family whether it's whatever You know and

the whole thing with with chicks story with with

Will Patton story. I love that. I thought that

was great and You know who the mother is there?

I don't top my head Judith hog Who was April

O 'Neil in TMNT1? Wow Yeah, I saw that and I'm

like what the hell is April O 'Neil doing in

this movie? Well, he apparently likes to collect

April O 'Neil's because you know the new April

is supposed to be Megan Fox So I guess he likes

to keep oh no, don't tell me that Who knows what's

supposed to happen but um What did you think

of the special effects for this movie? I love

them They're not overblown a couple of the car

explosions might have been a little over exaggerated

like when when the asteroid hit 53rd Street But

I love them. I thought they were great. I Love

how this movie essentially gives us the chance

to see what space could be like Specifically

that that shuttle run and how they got to the

air. I love that. That's about as close to space

as I would get. Yeah, I think, honestly, my favorite

part of the movie is the training sequences,

seeing them in that real water tank that NASA

really uses. That was pretty cool. Just this

different... The interviews with them in that

room that's just like the most freaky looking

room with all the spikes on the wall And those

were some great memories like steeper shimmy

in that I don't know if it was like if he ad

-libbed his lines or not, but he was hilarious

And that that that montage is probably my favorite

part of it, but the special effects I think are

pretty solid. They still hand up. So hold up

today the asteroid looks pretty pretty good.

I love the look of the shuttles and I really

like the look of the the uh the asteroid suits

those I think those look pretty cool and it's

the only the first film I've already used real

asteroid suits uh not asteroid suits uh real

astronaut suits which cost I guess three million

dollars a piece which is crazy that they would

let them use that but uh yeah I agree I think

the special effects are pretty solid because

say what you wanted about Michael Bay I can't

think of a film that I've seen that he has special

effects in and they're done poorly. No, I mean,

he's always done amazing special effects, but

again, most of his films are real world. You're

not going to get the blue plate special with

the alien crawling out of the guy's stomach.

It's not that kind of effect. It's not a space

balls effect. It's... realism at its best I would

say as far as the effects go granted nowadays

he's doing effects which look great on giant

sticks for transformers but you know back then

in 98 with this film they wanted to give you

or he wanted to give you the ultimate experience

of if you ever got to go into space and I think

I often have to compare this one to Independence

Day. I know it's not the same thing, kind of

is, but it really isn't because Independence

Day is aliens and this is just an asteroid. But

the reason why I compare them is because of the

whole going into space thing and because both

presidents make extra long speeches. I think

the president in this cut it a little bit, did

it a little bit better. Oh, you're knocking on

Bill Pullman. Yeah. If only you could have got

that megaphone to work properly the first time

around. But no, the special effects in this were

great. I really enjoy the plot and the cast.

Like you said, I mean, just going down the list.

Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton,

Liv Tyler, Will Patton, Steve Buscemi, Michael

Clarke Duncan, Owen Wilson, Peter Stormare. William

Fitchner, Ken Hudson, Keith David, Jessica Steen,

Grayson McCouch, and Jason Isaacs. I did not,

until I saw this movie again before we recorded

this episode, I did not even realize that was

Jason Isaacs as Dr. Ronald Quincy when I first

saw this, oh so many years ago. One of the reasons

is because I had just seen him. again for the

first time in a nbc series that only lasted one

season awake yeah but back then i did not even

did not even recognize him at all but i mean

stellar cast and this cast you can look at any

one of these names on wikipedia wherever you

want to look at them and their filmographies

are extensive You know Bruce Willis Pretty much

everyone's gonna know him from like moonlighting,

but as far as like films go Well Okay, die hard

would probably be the first one that most people

would remember him from obviously But the next

one that I remember him from was the voice of

Mikey and look who's talking that franchise Hudson

Hawk, which I don't remember that one all that

well. Death Becomes Her, Loaded Weapon 1, which,

oh my god, he would, wait, John McClane was in

Loaded Weapon 1? Wow. Weird. Go ahead. I guess

he was uncredited, but I guess the other movie

you would want is probably Pulp Fiction. I mean,

he is a big factor of that movie. And yeah, he's

had a pretty extensive career when he was in

12 monkeys and other great movies He does like

if it was like every month, there's a new bruce

mills movie out some are better than others.

I mean some are some are last Podcast you guys

did fifth element. He's a big part of that His

90s career I think was a little uneven here and

there but it seems like every few years he had

a big film I know fifth element wasn't a huge

success, but I think that's really grown. It's

a damn good movie though Yeah, it's really grown

in appreciation in the last few years really

last decade or so Armageddon we know was gigantic.

There was a biggest movie of the year that year.

He was in the sixth sense Sixth sense he was

creepy as all hell is the jackal that was Yeah,

he can play a villain he is good at good at that

he he can play the hero but he You do kind of

feel like in real life. He seems like a very

nice not nice person seems like based upon what

Kevin Smith says He you know, he's pretty hard

to work with but anyways He yeah, his career

is pretty impressive. He can put it up. I mean

he's been in Sin City a Whole lot of different

movies. He's had dramatic work. He's always in

Action from here and there like he's how old

is he now and he's still doing die -hard movies

He's gonna be the new GI Joe movie. He's gonna

be in Expendables. He's gonna be in the new bread

to film. It's just and a new Sin City movie this

year It's kind of crazy and he was in Looper

last year, which he was which he was great in

and Moonrise Kingdom Which he was great in as

well And next year he's gonna be in the Expendables

three. I can't I still can't believe they're

making them a third one of those Mean I guess

because of always let's get everybody together

But I think it's because they haven't had much

luck with her with their individual films. All

right, let's go back to this team thing. So But

yeah, you know, everyone knows who's built Willis

is he's still one of the biggest stars going

today And we've talked but oh good and I mean

other people I mean you also have to mention

bad affleck and he was I mean he became a joke

after He broke out on the scene because of Good

Will Hunting and then he did a few bad films

here and there like Reindeer Games but he's coming

off of winning Best Picture for Argo and he's

really grown into an amazing director with Gone

Baby Gone and The Town. But if you look at his

early career, like early 90s, he was in School

Ties, he was uncredited in Buffy the Vampire

Slayer, he was in Dazed and Confused. starring

role is shannon hamilton and mall rats for kevin

smith glory days chasing amy again starring role

for kevin smith and like you said 97 with good

will hunting is kind of where he got his oh my

god this guy is you know you got to pay attention

to him uh shakespeare in love phantoms of yeah

and then like late 99 is like after dogma is

really where it kind of like forces of nature

bounce Reindeer games reindeer game. Oh my god

Pearl Harbor What I find interesting is that

the one one of the one films that Kevin Smith

has done that doesn't That people don't really

care for Jersey girl actually reunited him with

Liv Tyler on screen Yeah Recently as far as acting

he hasn't done while he was in Argo But like

to to the wonder is his next one Yeah, that was

at the end the last year. It's um that debuted

at Toronto Film Festival It's really coming out

in wide release for this year's Terrence Malick's

newest movie Which is odd because Terrence Malick

usually takes like five years between movies,

and he just had one two years ago So yeah, that'll

be coming out later this year, but he's you know

the convention Argo He was in the company or

company men which was okay that kind of That

was kind of a dud state of play which was I think

a decent movie, but I think right now, I think

looking at his career, it's clearly that his

future is in directing, and hopefully he keeps

it up, because his first three films have all

been really solid. Yeah, I love it when he does

kind of what, well, obviously Ben Affleck isn't

going to be a silent Ben, get what I did there.

Yeah, very nice. But I like when he does directing

and acting. Like the town, I loved the town.

The town was so cool. And it's not just because,

oh, it's a Massachusetts movie and I'm from Massachusetts.

It was just a really cool movie in general. And

then you move on to Angelina's ex, Billy Bob.

Oh, Billy Bob. This guy has done a ton of stuff.

Most people might remember him from going overboard

in 89 the earliest Tombstone indecent proposal

Let's see sling blade. Yeah, that's probably

it that was a huge one, too I mean that's when

he was nominated for an Oscar. He was that performance

is pretty amazing It's kind of crazy because

I think that's the first time I ever saw him

on screen and then seeing At least remember seeing

him and then seeing him in real life. I was like,

wow, that's not at all what I thought he'd be

like in real life But yeah, he's but he's in

a lot too like you mentioned after Armageddon

He did a simple plan the same year Sam Rami's

movie and that's a really great film that I feel

like people have completely forgot about now

same me we recently came out with Oz the rain

powerful and If you go back to his filmography,

like, A Simple Plan is different for his director

-to -aural style, but it's a really solid thriller

and a really great book, too. So if you haven't

checked that out, I definitely would advise.

He's done some great works with the Coens, with

The Man Who Wasn't There. That's a great new

classic noir, like, came out in, like, 2001.

He was in Monster's Ball, which is a movie I'm

not a big fan of, but... People really know him

for that because of the love scene with Halle

Berry. He's a pretty lucky woman I mean being

going out with Angelina Jolie having those scenes

with Halle Berry For an odd -looking guys. He's

had a lot of luck. Oh No, well another movie

people might remember him from something that

people would have watched during Christmas time

is bad Santa and Apparently they're coming out

with bad Santa to this year ten years after the

first film But I mean, yeah, I mean he's He's

an amazing actor when when the role is right

for him Liv Tyler, well, she's Stevens daughter.

That's Yeah. That's kind of just reducing her

stuff, but she's done a lot of stuff. Not necessarily

the first thing I ever saw her in, but one thing,

kind of like a hidden gem, like we said earlier,

was she was Corey Mason in Empire Records in

95. Since then, Armageddon obviously was huge.

Dr. T and the women. Of course, the other huge

thing that most people remember her from is something

that... Won't ever cover on him wire, but other

people might the Lord of the Kings or rings or

whatever Yeah How did you how did you feel about

her in this movie overall like her performance?

I liked her for For what the character was I

liked it. It wasn't too overblown The emotion

was there when it had to be She went off on her

dad when she had to it was I didn't find her

performance like oh my god Why is she here? Really

liked it. I thought it was good. Okay, I didn't

completely dislike it I just I don't know I I

didn't feel like her and her in a relationship

with Billy not Billy pop Thorin But with Bruce

Willis thought that worked, but I never had felt

any kind of chemistry with with Ben Affleck Ben

Affleck's not really an actor that has much chemistry

with other people to begin with, so it might

be more on him. But yeah, she hasn't really done

much lately. She was in Robot and Frank last

year, which I have yet to see, but I've heard

really great things about. She was Bessie Ross,

a classic comic book character in the Incredible

Hulk remake slash reboot slash whatever it was.

That's right, yeah. Yeah, I did not like her

in the incredible I liked Jennifer Connelly as

as Betty in the original Hulk I think they should

have stuck with her, but She lived it okay in

that for what that movie is but yeah Will Patton

is another one this guy Everywhere Most of the

most people would know him from most likely I

just had it here a second ago no way out from

87 let's see what else he's done a lot of stuff

that I don't even know gone in 60 seconds is

another one yeah I was gonna say gone in 60 seconds

copycat remember the Titans he was big and that

Right now, I don't know if you watch the show,

but I actually quite like it. Falling Skies,

he's an actor in that movie, or movie, that TV

show. That show, yeah, no, I don't watch that.

It's actually pretty good. People, I don't know,

that doesn't seem to be really talked about much

in geekdom, but it's pretty solid. It's not the

greatest thing in the world, but it's a pretty

good summer series, and he's a big part of it.

Yeah. Go ahead. He hasn't done any movies since

2010 so hopefully he starts doing stuff But yeah,

like you said falling skies and apparently this

year he's gonna do Grant versus Lee Oh Wow, he's

gonna play Robert E Lee. Oh my god, that would

be really interesting Hmm. Yeah, he seems a little

young for that, but I guess maybe it'll work

It's an eight hour main series centered around

the military service of General Ulysses S. Grant

leading up to the surrender of General Robert

E. Lee. That's going to be interesting, I think.

Steve Buscemi, I mean, comedy gold with this

guy. Just everywhere. Pretty much any Adam Sandler

movie, Steve Buscemi is in. you know you can

you know you can count him on your hand I mean

he's in almost every Adam Sandler movie it was

in the Big Lebowski, Con Air, Con Air he was

a little creepy in Con Air Fargo, Desperado,

like I said Billy Madison Armageddon, Big Daddy

Yeah, he's done a lot of great work with both

with Tarantino and in the Cullen Brothers like

you mentioned Big Lebowski He was also in Tarantino's

first film. You know, he's mr. Pink in Reservoir

Dogs, which is I think the first time I remember

Seeing him, but I love steeper Chevy. He's the

definition of a great character actor He does

a lot of great movies. He does he's someone who

can Really bring a lot of different dynamics

to a movie like you mentioned you can be creepy

as hell in con air You can be it's hilarious

hilarious and bring some dark humor like you

did with this movie in Armageddon He's he's done

a lot and he's now right now he's in boardwalk

empire which i think is the first time we're

really allowed to see him really stretch his

acting chops beyond just being a character actor

but right yeah i love super shimmy he's really

underappreciated considering like how extensive

his career has been and uh most most people that

might be into animation would obviously remember

him from monsters inc and monsters upcoming monsters

university as randall again plays creepy so well

um the other thing i remember him from The Sopranos.

I remember his run on Sopranos. That was cool.

He was in that show for 16 episodes So that's

really cool stuff. He's got coming up this year

as I said Moss's University is also in the incredible

Burt Wonderstone, which just came out a couple

weeks ago And he's gonna be in grown -ups too

as well Steve is is all over the place Sadly

Michael Clarke Duncan passed away but His filmography

when he was alive just Everybody remembers the

green mile Armageddon Bullworth He was a bodyguard

in the players club He was in He was a craps

player in Friday. That's where he got his first

film role He's in the whole nine yards see spot

run cats and dogs Planet of the Apes Scorpion

King he was Wilson Fisk in Daredevil Just an

amazing amazing actor and One of my favorite

scenes from this I don't like the scene because

it's specifically to Armageddon I don't like

it because it's it's it's AJ and and what's her

name grace? Doing the I don't like the scene

until Michael Clarke Duncan opens his mouth and

those pipes came out when there's someone they're

all singing leaving on a jet plane Yeah, that's

if he was still alive he and he and Steve Buscemi

need to start a two -man band cuz oh my god talk

about People that you don't think in saying Michael

Clarke Duncan had some pipes on him Steve Buscemi

is a nice little He has a nice singing voice

to the point where it's really smooth. I thought

that was great Yeah, like that scene. I normally

just ignored because Originally it was oh it's

these two and they're singing and Ben Affleck

is singing like he can't sing at all and whatever

else But yeah, I mean Michael Clarke Duncan amazing

amazing actor And as I said before me rest in

peace One half of the Wilson Brothers Owen He's

been in a ton of see mostly those comedies though

But he's been in a ton of stuff Rushmore Anaconda,

Cable Guy, Armageddon obviously. Go ahead, what

were you going to say? Oh yeah, he's done a lot

with talking about actors that tend to team up

with directors. He's obviously done a lot with

Wes Anderson, being Bottle Rocket, the Royal

Tent and Bombs, he was in I think Life of a Product

too. But Owen Wilson is a very great comedic

presence. He wasn't a big part of this movie.

I mean, he wasn't really a known name. He was

in, you know, bottle rocking cable guy, cable

in Anaconda, but he was never really a leading

man in a major film. He slowly got there. Most

recently, I think. I keep forgetting that he's

in this movie because... at the time Oscar only

has a couple of choice lines yeah he's not really

a big part you know he's not you know he's got

you know some really memorable lines though he's

got you know oh this is normal how would you

know this is not normal this is way worse you

know he's you know And, you know, he's got the

whole line of, you know, coming into your sexuality

and coming into your own and all that, but he's

got some memorable stuff in Armageddon, but most

general audiences that aren't, like, into the

comedy or whatever would probably know him as

the voice of Lightning McQueen in one of Pixar's

best films, Cars and Cars 2. You had to put that

out there, huh? Suck it, Ratatouille. He's also

obviously in Night of the Museum 1 and 2. He

was in Marley and Me. That was interesting to

see him in that. You and Me and Dupree. As you

said, Wedding Crashers. Starsky and Hutch. Just

amazing, amazing. Most all of these guys and

girls have an amazing... You know said of and

Keith David, I mean Keith. What can you say about

Keith David? That's hasn't already been said

this dude Not only has one of the best voices

and voice acting his presence whenever he's in

a room in any project It's just magic when he's

there. Yeah, if God had a voice it would be Keith

David's voice Meet that the truth. Yeah, he's

again. He's he's a god with voice acting and

He's a great actor, too. He's never really been

a huge leading man, but he's really unappreciated.

I think he could be a lot more than he. For some

reason, he never really gets really big roles.

But I think one of his most memorable one is

with They Live, the classic. John Carpenter movie.

He's been a lot of like cult classics like smaller

films, but he's and he's he tends to just be

in movies here and there he's kind of when they

needed a like a some guy to seem important or

have a have that voice that commands Respect

you you get Keith David because he just needs

to walk in a room and say a few lines and ultimately

people like okay that guy is You know that guy's

the man Yeah, one thing in his filmography that

nearly just made my jaw hit the floor I don't

know what character he played, but he was on

mr. Rogers neighborhood from 82 to 84 Wow, I

don't know that's odd. I don't wait. I don't

know either. Um, it's very odd You know stuff

that people would have recognized him from today.

He was in Delta farce. He was in behind every

lines to ATL dirty mr. And mrs. Smith Hollywood

Homicide, Agent Cody Banks 1 and 2. Let me see

here, what's recent? Coming up, well last year

he did Cloud Atlas, which apparently no one liked.

He was in a couple episodes of Hawaii Five -0.

For voice work, he's got just so many roles.

I can't even go through all of them between video

games, animation, everything. He does the voice

work for some of the army commercials. I think

it's the Army or National Guard as well. Even

if you don't know his name or you don't know

his face, you'll know his voice just by seeing

him on screen. You're like, oh, I know that guy.

I don't know where he's from. And you realize

you probably know him from pretty much everything.

Yeah. The funny thing with him is that he one

of my I usually like watching like like forensic

files and those kind of shows and stuff like

that the funny thing is is that he when Paul

Winfield passed away Keith David took over the

the Hosting narrating duties from from him when

he when Paul Winfield passed away and Paul Winfield

had one of those voices that was just like Anything

the guy could read the phone book and you can

listen to them all day Keith David has that voice

whether it's his commanding version of You know

what like you said sounding like a god or whatever

else or just him just talking in general Sadly

city confidential hasn't had a new episode since

2006 but Just very very awesome uh... anything

else we want to say about the cast no i i think

we pretty much we've been up for a lot there's

a lot people are probably someone not mentioning

but when looking at the gas i think the best

part is you you feel like all of them have like

you mentioned even on wilson as a few lines he

has those few lines work uh... they all kind

of have that corroborated Get along really well

and you feel like you just kind of want to hang

out with him and kind of go to a bar and Be a

part of their party because they they're everything

seems so fun I talked about that montage with

them training and didn't make tea of Michael

dot Michael Clarke Duncan like singing again

and like for some reason stripping for no apparent

reason but But yeah, I do the cast is quite quite

Impressive and well handled. There's some some

little lights here and there like I mentioned

Liz Tyler's not the Is not the greatest use in

this and Ben Affleck though. I love him as a

director. He's acting is limited But you know

Bruce Willis, I think really kind of shows it

in see be shaming and it's I don't know. It's

it's great basically Yeah some production stuff

something that I wanted to bring up was that

apparently when NASA was still doing the shuttle

program They show the film as part of its management

training program. Prospective managers are asked

to find as many inaccuracies in the movie as

they can. At least 168 impossible things have

been found during the screenings of the film.

And that's only in the first 20 minutes, so...

That's so funny. Alright, so let's go ahead and

talk about the soundtracks. The actual soundtrack

has... Wow. Don't want to miss the thing was

written by Diane Warren. Holy crap Obviously

sung by Aerosmith remember me by Journey What

kind of love are you on from Aerosmith? Lagrange

from ZZ Top, Roll Me Away, Bob Seeger When the

Rainbow Comes, Sean Colvin, Sweet Emotion, Aerosmith,

Mr. Big Time, Bon Jovi Come Together, Aerosmith,

Wish I Were You, Patti Smith Star Seed from Our

Lady Peace, leaving on a jet plane, Chantel Creviac,

the theme by Trevor Rabin, and then obviously

the Animal Crackers with the dialogue thing that

they did. The soundtrack has a probably I'd say

five out of fourteen good songs. Just some I

just don't care for at all. And I've heard I

don't want to miss a thing so many times since

1998. It's like, you know next track Yeah, that

that was played and I was em during that year

like all in the radio I mentioned it was yeah,

I think TRL was around that I think around that

time and up that movie music video was played

up played a lot Yeah, I kind of got sick of that

song and I mentioned it was with my prom song

which didn't help anything Yeah, I honestly don't

remember I didn't even know journey had a song

shit on the on the soundtrack for Armageddon

I Don't think it's in the movie though. It's

on the soundtrack. I don't think it's in the

movie. I Don't remember it being in the movie.

I could be wrong But and then the score from

Trevor Raven the score is just so good It just

is. There's apparently also a novelization written

by C. Boland based on the screenplay by Jonathan

Hensley, J .J. Abrams, Tony Gilroy, and Shane

Salerno, a story by Jonathan Hensley and Robert

Poole. I did not know this, and most of these

blockbuster movies, this ends up happening, but

did you know that there was a theme park attraction

for this? No, I did not. It was located, what,

in Disneyland Paris? So I think most people didn't

know there was an attraction for Armageddon.

Because who went to Disneyland Paris? Is that

even still around? I think so, sadly. The attraction

simulates the scene in the movie in which the

Russian space station is destroyed. Michael Clarke

Duncan, bear in the movie, featured in the pre

-show before his death. So that's that's good.

That's kind of cool though, you know before he

passed away he was still doing Something from

you know, he was still taking part of a role

from a film that is nearly what? Almost 20 years

old Something like that Yeah, it's came out 98.

So yeah, it's it's 15 years old this year So

I think that's pretty cool All right, so we are

the IGN replacement crew. Zero is gnaw your own

arm off before you watch this. One is don't watch

this even if it's free. Two is worth a watch

if it's free on TV. Three is worth adding to

the Netflix list. It is not in Netflix. And four

is this one is a must add to your DVD collection.

What do you rate it? Well, I think if you're

just going to go off the criterion one, I would

make that a must just because of the novelty

of having a criterion Armageddon DVD. But I think

I give it a solid three. It is that turn your

brain off, which is a term I don't like all that

much because I think you can be fun and not have

to turn your brain off. But it is what it is.

It's the ultimate guilty pressure. If you go

there trying to analyze the plot details and

the accuracy of the movie, Yeah, it's kind of

ridiculous, but it's I watch it and I have fun

and There's a lot of action movies that I don't

have that I get invested into the characters.

I think each has a Story within themselves some

are better than others, but I think there's enough

there to make it a solid three I don't think

it's a must -own because they're like I mentioned

there are some things that kind of take it down

a few notches, but If you if it's that movie

if you just want to watch something you just

need to not think for a while You just need to

kind of brighten up your day Armageddon is a

good film to do that I don't know and maybe we

should do this would probably be a GCR episode

like like television rights or or Like royalty

rights of of films. I don't know how networks

get permission to to air films like this, like

Gone In 60 Seconds, like, you know, stuff that

we see on TV, like the obviously edited versions

for cable and stuff, but I don't know how all

that works, but I mean, I don't know who gets

money off those airings, but whoever does, man,

FX is padding those people's pockets, because

I've seen this movie at least in the last year

10 times on the FX network. Yeah, the way I mean,

I don't know the exacts of it a lot of it's like

you're paying for the licenses of the of the

movie it's almost in a way its own way of renting

something from a movie studio you pay a lot of

money for it and then they allow you to Put it

on your network and sometimes, you know, you

have movie studios that also own television networks

or they're somehow they're combined in some way

But that would be an interesting topic to see

the the minutiae of how that works Yeah For me,

I gotta give it a four. I have to. I know you

don't like the term of, oh, it's a turn your

brain off movie, but it really is. And I wouldn't

say it's a turn your brain off movie. I would

say it's a movie people can escape into if there's

something going on in your life that you don't

care that you're dealing with it, but you don't.

You need to get away. This is a movie you should

watch. I give it a four because, well, I have

it on iTunes and I have the original VHS from

1998, so obviously I do own a copy of it even

though it's not on DVD. uh... some other stuff

uh... something i found really interesting uh...

some production notes uh... in may of ninety

eight disney chairman joe roth expanded the film's

budget by three million dollars to include additional

special effects scenes this additional footage

incorporated two months prior to the film's release

was specifically added for the television advertising

campaign to differentiate the film from deep

impact which is released a few months before

Three million dollars makes yourself better than

that other craptastic movie. That's always good

Wow this had a Super Bowl 32 ad cost 2 .6 million

The theatrical run Wow July 1st, oh wow July

1st this year will be its 15th year anniversary.

Holy crap. Yeah, it makes you feel really old

Yes, yes it does But yeah, then recording the

turn your brain off like what I mean by that

it's like I just don't think you need to turn

your That fun, but and it is kind of it I love

when you have that mirror movie syndrome where

you have those two films that are very similar

come out at the same time and sometimes there

is a clear winner when that happens like last

year we had Mirror Mirror and Snow White and

the Huntsman and clear winner there was Snow

White and the Huntsman and this thank you for

admitting that because we all know you love Mirror

Mirror yeah and the clear winner here was you

know Armageddon because no one really talks about

Deep Impact but I think Armageddon really got

into like the zeitgeist at the time just it was

an event it had the soundtrack it had it had

the the fanfare like you mentioned the commercials

that was everywhere and it was a huge success

and I think kind of the hatred towards it and

like the dislike towards that movie has kind

of dissipated throughout the years and it's interesting

looking at the IMDB rating and every year it's

gone up so maybe it's kind of funny how revisionist

people can be and and in the moment you can really

dislike something but kind of as things go and

you rewatch stuff you kind of realize okay this

it is what it is and I'm gonna enjoy it for what

it is so And I mean hey, you know you've got

like we said a stellar cast you've got one cast

member that sure he put on a lot of Duds in the

early 2000s, but he's as you said going on in

Ben Affleck to go on he's gone on to be an amazing

director so who knows Ben Affleck direct Justice

League, please All right, we're gonna go to a

something about Transformers, can I? Come on,

man. Good grief. what about sports that sounds

good yeah that's alright alright we are back

and final thoughts on armageddon sir uh... it's

a good way of As we're looking back at the 90s,

it's been kind of fun to kind of see how much

action has changed then within just a few years,

just looking at Michael Bay's career, how much

special effects and CGI have played a larger

and larger role, for the positive and the negative.

But yeah, like you mentioned, if you haven't

seen this movie in a while, maybe this will kind

of incite you to do it again. And it's always

on TV, so. go and check it out and if you disagree

let us know I'm sure there's a lot of people

who think we give it didn't give it enough credit

or maybe we should give a little bit less credit

but I just I just don't see okay I can see why

people might not like it because of some certain

scenes and stuff but overall I don't for me it's

just a solid movie I mean I don't I don't know

like yeah people sound off in the comment section

on this post and tell us why you do or don't

like this film because I just it's one of those

movies that I can put on anytime doesn't I can

put it on anytime at any that doesn't matter

if it's starting from the beginning or if it's

in the middle of the movie um I just really really

enjoy this movie the one thing that I want to

bring up before we close is and I think I know

the answer to this but um Was Reggie still alive

after the first meteor hit? Poor little dog.

I'm gonna probably say probably not. I think

he was though because he was moaning and whining

and I thought I saw his eye move at some point

but I don't know. I'm not really sure. He might

have been or maybe he originally wasn't and they're

like okay people aren't. test audiences didn't

like seeing a dog get killed so let's put a couple

sound effects in there so people realize he's

still alive yeah all right so we hope you enjoyed

this episode of mwire and wish you'll join us
