About this Episode

A deep dive into the three-film comedy franchise starring Leslie Nielsen. We examine the evolution of the characters, the plot points of each entry, and the box office performance, while debating how well these slapstick films hold up today.

and welcome to the second episode of the m wire

movie we can review from your friends at the

cast radio dot com today we're going to be discussing

all three naked gun films i am tfg one mike and

as usual i'm joined by steve slash megatron hello

how's it going it could be better i'm tired uh...

when we start the good news we quote -unquote

have been hired by this week in geek uh... We're

going to be working with them on production elements

getting sound clips for them possibly Getting

in on some of the discussions That they do So

that's good Yes, it'll hopefully you know give

us more exposure And skills yes, yes, so that's

good On a bad note, I have two audio blogs that

I've pre -recorded, that I have not sent you

yet, and I don't know if I'm going to, but I

needed to rant on something last night. I don't

know if you've seen my what the fuck thread in

my ranting sub -forum on the forums, but I got

an email yesterday from my publisher, and they

send me emails once a week about, you know...

by nineteen books at half price you get something

free blah blah blah blah. Well the beginning

of this email said, and I don't have it in front

of me but I pretty much remember what the gist

of it is, Dear Author, this is an important announcement.

Very soon we are going to be taking down our

current phone book ordering system. You will

not be able to call the local Maryland number

because these people are based out of Frederick,

Maryland. Number to order your books instead.

We will be putting in a premium rate 1 900 number

And it will be answered by a help desk Okay,

what the fuck So they're gonna charge me to call

them I mean cuz I just you know I have unlimited

long -distance and crap like that on my cell

phone But they're gonna charge me a 900 number

rate to call them to order and then they're gonna

charge me for for me to be able to get my own

book what the fuck is wrong with these people

wow i hope to god that was just a typo and it's

supposed to say 1 -800 number not 1 -900 number

but it did say before that it said premium rate

so oh my god oh christ um Yeah. So what's been

going on with you this week? Well, to start the

week off, I received the materials from Shout

Factory. I've got the G .I. Joe mass device five

part mini series, which is what launched the

G .I. Joe line in 1983. As well as the entire,

well, I think it's the entire, I don't know,

season 1 .1 of G .I. Joe, that 4 DVD set, and

it came with the temporary tattoo things of the

G .I. Joe logo and the Cobra logo and the booklet,

as well as the Transformers More Than Meets the

Eye disc, which contains The first three episodes

of course transport to oblivion and roll for

With no additional special features Okay, so

what I will probably do with the transformer

generation one disc that I have is that will

be a promo item Considering I already owned the

first season. Yeah, we can give that away as

a contest prizes the GI Joe I intend to keep

but Yeah At least this way you don't have to

go out and buy it because apparently shout factory

didn't tell you that you had to send these back

at all so that's known not apparently so yeah

and Another thanks to shout factory and Dana

of shop factory. Yes very much so yes, and I've

started the review I've taken pictures of it.

I've kind of inspected it on the outside until

I can get home to watch the physical DVDs, which

I will do so tomorrow and start. I believe I'm

going to do a written review for the purpose

of reviewing the DVD set as well as an audio

review so that I can capture the best of both

worlds on the complete reviews. Yeah, that's

cool. Yeah, that's that's really great I mean

when you know we kind of have stuff that's blasting

off for us as far as you know I mean that that's

that's huge that that that shot factory would

send us stuff like that because Normally, it's

you know people that are more mainstream like

the guys over at TV shows on DVD or you know

You know people like that yeah twig you know

people like that they get all the get all that

kind of stuff for review, but Yeah, hopefully

they'll send us more stuff when it comes down

the pipe. Yeah, that'd be awesome. So I believe

we're going to get into the show topic today.

After this clip right now, you're going to hear

the Naked Gun theme and then the discussion on

the first film. Alright, we are already talking

about the Naked Gun film franchise. First off,

I'd like to say that these films are not conducive

to audio -grabbing. The majority of the stuff

is sight -gags, so you have to actually watch

the movie to actually get it. I did get one clip,

and only one clip, which I'll play now, and then

I probably won't play it until maybe the end

of this episode of NYR today, but here is the

one clip I did get. thud I Went over and over

and over and over with these DVDs looking for

good sound clips and I Don't know Quite hard

to get your hands on especially when most of

it is site driven. Yeah gag. Oh exactly So I

guess the way we're gonna do this is I'll read

the for I have many plot synopsis is for each

film I guess I'll read the first one Steve you

can read the second one, and then I'll read the

third one We can just go okay, whatever is just

whatever to get it done So naked gun from the

files of police squad this this film franchise

is actually based off of a TV series Um, and

you had told me off air before we started that,

uh, apparently Drebin was supposed to be more

of, um, more of a serious slash straight man

type in the series. Yeah, it was supposed to

be more so like, uh, dragnet -ish. Ah, yes. And

it went completely, well, he was dragnet -ish

in the show, but in the movies, he was more Maxwell

-smart. And that's an insult to Don Adams. Because

I go Steve Carell played the same character as

well. Yeah, well Steve Carell Isn't yeah, but

I'm not even we're not even gonna go there I

don't know if it When do these come out in the

90s? Yeah, because it was around that I know

the third one came out around 90 something because

it was around the time where Anna Nicole Smith

was still alive and she was fighting her 99 year

old husbands. Yeah, the movies came out between

88 and 94. Yeah, okay, I was between the ages

of 8 and 14. So yeah, I'm gonna laugh at this

stuff, but throughout this week watching them,

I laughed exactly twice. Once at the end of the

first film and once at some point in the third

film. I didn't find anything about any of these

funny at all. So here is the first film's synopsis.

Detective Frank Drebin tries to uncover a plan

to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II, who is on

a state visit to the U .S. The main suspect is

Vincent Ludwig, a man hired by Pap Schmier, a

recurring villain, who has a way of turning anyone

into an unknowing assassin at the press of remote

control. It appears that the victims are responding

to post -hymnotic suggestion. But the film makes

no effort to clarify the point. As with previous

Zazz spoof comedies, the ostentable plot was

called the most from another more serious movie.

In this case, it was Telephone, wherein people

were triggered into assassins via hypnotic phone

calls. Indeed, dialogue in the post -hypnotic

suggestion demonstration scene is copied word

-for -word from telephone. As he works on the

case, Drebben meets and falls in love with Ludwig's

assistant, Jane Spencer, and it is eventually

revealed that Jane knows nothing about Ludwig's

plot, and after the pair spend the night together,

she helps Frank with his investigation. Uh, the

first film. Let's see... It just does... Yeah.

Christ I'm trying not to have dead air in this

episode, but I mean I I still need to find Crickets

online somewhere so I can use as a clip because

it Christ I'm sure back then These films were

very funny but as I said before I Laughed exactly

once throughout this entire movie I think it

was pretty awesome of them to include the whole

baseball thing. Yeah. But, first of all, him

as the opera singer, and then as the umpire.

Yeah, that was just freaking, like, well, some

of it was funny. You gotta admit, him being the

umpire, he doesn't know what the hell he's doing,

and looking like a complete fool being out there.

Yeah. So, I mean, in a sense, it is still funny.

a lot of it's like very very very overplayed

comedy yeah in my own opinion I thought it was

very dry humor but I do think it was awesome

that they had Reggie Jackson is one of the is

one of the hit no assassins I guess you could

call them but I don't know I think the oh I know

what the other scene was that I laughed at in

this one when he goes into the bathroom with

the microphone oh and they can hear him going

to the bathroom in the hall like like he left

the the dinner or whatever it was and he goes

into the bathroom oh lord but uh no i mean i

really don't know what else to say about this

film about the first one. I really don't know

what to say about the majority of them other

than giving people the information about what

they're about because I really can't stand them.

Yeah, it's still a pretty good movie, but it's

like you said, it's something that you'd have

to be either into because it's a dry -ish humor.

It's more along the lines of where like the American

pie humor came from in movies like that Even

though this is more of a More like in your face

than American pie, I guess it's it's not you

know You know school kids or teenagers or or

college kids. You know doing stuff. It's this

kukil man who you know attempts to be like uh...

maxwell smarton in my opinion fails miserably

see i don't really compare it to that i'd just

i think of it is like a just old -fashioned funny

movie these cuz i grew up on some of these shows

and watching them with my dad when i was younger

so i find it quite entertaining At the same time,

I like the particular actor, Leslie Nielsen,

in most of his movies. And it was only in those

particular, like the Police Academy, or not Police

Academy, Police Squad, Naked Gun movie, that,

well, that and Spy Hard, that I only really cared

for him as an actor in them. Yeah, very much

so And you know It just I don't know it's like

I said before you know I'm not trying to be a

dead horse or repeat myself so much, but I'm

sure I found these funny when I was younger when

they came out, but now it's like Basically, I

had to fast forward through some parts just because

I You know, I was like, oh god, here we go. And

these movies are extremely, extremely dated.

All three of them. Well, yeah, and then look

at the fact it's got O .J. in it. Well, yeah.

Before he was in big trouble for what everybody

knows. Yeah. I think these are the only films

that I've ever seen O .J. act in. Yeah, I'd have

to agree with you on that. I don't think I've

seen him in anything else. I'd have to pull up

like an IMDB. Other than spending years on a

court case on the middle of primetime television,

I don't think he's gotten much airtime other

than that. Yup. Alright, do we have anything

else to say about the first naked gun film? Do

not believe so. Okay, we're going to move on

to the second one then. Alright, up next we're

going to be discussing the second film in the

series, Naked Gun, Two and a Half, The Smell

of Fear. Take it away, Steve. Well in this one,

Frank discovers that Jane's new boyfriend, Quentin

Hapsburg, is involved in an evil plan to kidnap

Dr. Albert S. Meinheimer, portrayed by Richard

Griffiths, a scientist whom President George

Bush portrayed by John Rourke. has chosen to

start a new national energy policy. Quentin Hapsburg

plans to kidnap the real doctor, Meinheimer,

and replace him with a lookalike named Earl Hacker,

also portrayed by Richard Griffiths, who will

endorse an energy policy according to the dictates

of the energy lobby. Uh, yeah. Yeah, this movie,

um... Is perhaps the least favorite of the three

for me mm -hmm because I'm considering I don't

own the movies right now, but If you want I have

my copies well Yeah, I'm good. I think but um

It's one of those shows that I could I could

stand to watch whenever I see it on TV. Which

is like once a year mm -hmm Kind of like the

Christmas story that plays for 24 hours but um

yeah this movie I don't remember a whole hell

of a lot about because it just I don't know it

seemed the dumbest of the three yeah but yet

it had the highest box office rating yes it did

we will get into the box office stuff and all

the other information after we're we're done

with the the little discussions this movie Like

with the first one. Okay, the first one after

after we meet the Queen and wherever else It

the I'm trying to think it was at this one of

the first one Trying to think whether it was

yeah was this one where? Drebin basically his

bungling basically ends up abusing the police

commissioner and the first lady and I don't mean

you know abuse as in obviously abusing is it

is a bad choice of a word but I mean for christ

sake in the opening scene he's trying to eat

a lobster and for some for some odd reason there's

there's a joke in there where he gets the lobster

claw to like it's like lobster claw activate

pinch her tit lobster he keeps moving the lobster

claw comes over him and Pinch is the police commissioner's

tit. It was like, oh, god. Yeah, I have to say

that that would be one of the funny moments of

the movie that I forgot about. Yeah, I mean,

I do have to admit, I did laugh at that opening

scene, but go ahead. But yeah, little moments

like that are what made the movies more so memorable

to me, even though it was just plain retarded.

Yeah. Yeah And again this Do you know do you

have off the do you remember off top your head

what year this came out? I know we said it would

all three were between 88 and 94 the second film

came out in 91 91 the first one was 88 and the

third is 94 94. Yeah this particular film I don't

know if you want to get into the box office stuff

now or later, made $86 million in the box office.

The first one made $78 million, with the third

making $51 million, probably because of the disaster

that the second film was. Yeah. I'm not really

sure. What the deal is with this film? The reason

why I asked you for the year it was released

is because I'm thinking that there was some sort

of energy crisis going on back then. I know we

were just starting Desert Storm, Desert Shield,

whatever, the whole golf war thing. George Bush's

work. Yeah. Which his son then had to finish

for him. Anyways. Because he fell asleep while

they bombed the third world countries anyway.

Yeah, yeah. I really... This film was, you know,

as we've said, pretty much the most forgettable

out of the three. Yes. It's basically just there.

I think the other thing the stupid thing which

you know, I don't know how OJ is Obviously this

is before his whole Legal issues as we've said,

I don't know how he was I mean I've never been

a fan of his as far as you know, the whole football

thing and Excuse me, whatever else he's acted

in but The role of Nordberg Is was actually white

in the others in this TV series. Oh really? Yes.

Oh Christ I didn't know that the role of Nordborg

Nordberg regardless of of the color of the character

or the character playing him It's very stupid

and pointless Yeah And very, very pointless.

He's just one of those characters that shows

up for two seconds to get something bad happen

to him and then disappear again. Pretty much.

And then show up later in the film hurt just

so that Drebin can mess him up again. Well, the

main thing why I don't like Nordberg is, as I

said, the stupidity factor is like off the fucking

chart. Because he'll be there, you know, I think

in that end scene, where they have to clear the

building out because of the bomb. Yeah. He's

like, okay, everybody just calmly move to the

exits, everything will be fine, we're having

a situation, we need everybody to leave. Then

he goes, oh yeah, so the bomb doesn't explode.

And then it panics everybody, and everybody does

a mad dash to the front door, and he's like,

you cover his mouth like, oops, oops, what'd

I do? You know, it's like, characters like that

really piss me off. Yeah, I I don't know I didn't

care for the character at all. I think they just

were trying to include the character from the

original and Yeah, they could have done without

it and it should be noted that I don't know about

you But I have never seen the series. I've never

seen it either because I didn't even know it

existed I just thought that the from the tales

of police squad were just a you know a Subtitle

for the first movie like, you know, it came from

some mysterious police, you know records Yeah

Because to me the way the story started out you

didn't honestly need the classic TV series to

work off of Yeah, no you didn't So do we I mean

I know we're not really going in depth with discussion

on these films But do we really have anything

else to say about the second one? Absolutely

not. Yes, so we're going to go on to the third

film. And the last film we're going to talk about

today is Naked Gun. 33 and a third, the final

insult. It should be noted before we go any further

that the people that made these films were the

same people that made Airplane. And I find that

very hard to believe. I mean, I know that Airplane

is dark at a few points I haven't seen airplane

you know in a while I need to eventually but

the third film I liked it but again as I've said

before today you know before in this episode

today that these films just are not one of my

favorites anymore yet the third movie um trying

to think oh yeah i remember the third movie now

it's not one of the strongest ones either it's

stronger than the second one yeah but the final

insult would be a fitting title for this movie

because it would be the final insult to the box

office of this line yeah it should have stopped

after the first movie Thank God there was not

a fourth one, and I don't think that they...

It would have been 44 and a quarter. Oh, God.

I don't think that they could have gone any more

harsh than what they went with this film at the

end. And I'm not even really going to bring up

the scene, but let's just say Anna Nicole Smith's

character has... not female parts, and that's

all I'm gonna say about that. Yeah. So to synopsize

this one, in the third film of the saga, Frank

is married to Jane, and he's retired from police

squad. The film introduces a criminal, Rocco

Dillon, who is stuck in prison. He is contacted

by Papschmer to be given a target for bombing.

Frank is pulled out of retirement and has to

go undercover, pretending to be a prisoner named

Nick the Slasher McGurk. and the jail where Rocco

Dillon is being held. They break out of jail,

when outside there escorted by Dillon's gangster

mother to his country retreat. At his hideout,

Frank is told of the plot to blow up the Academy

Awards. When Jane arrives looking for him, she

is taken hostage. And that's all the plot synopsis

IMDB offered. I mean, it just stops there. It

doesn't say anything about, you know, Frank eventually

saving the day or blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Obviously, the reviewer that wrote it fell asleep

before he finished writing and submitted it.

Well, I should note on this that when I got the

research for these films, I only got, like I

went to Wiki and I searched, you know, naked

gun. It came up the naked gun films and it you

know on ours on the script I came up with here

for what we're gonna be talking about today They're

you know for further information links you can

click on each each film, and it probably gives

more details, but anyway This one it was had

some funny moments But you know as we've said

before just no Overall, it was a pretty forgettable

movie. Yeah Yeah, pretty much and and this was

at the the 90s height of Playboy That's why Anna

Nicole Smith was in it There was a reference

when they're at the cabin to the Playboy Channel

So I'm sure Hugh Hefner got plenty of money from

these people. Oh, I'm I'm so sure about that

And then of course, it's actually funny how these

films follow two celebrity exploits between OJ

Simpson and Ann Nicole Smith because at the time,

I think after this either finished or right as

it started, her 99 year old husband or however

the hell old he was... Croaked. Yeah. And then

she was, you know, in a court battle over...

Trying to get the money. Yeah. And then of course,

I think it was last year the year was like two

or three years ago now She passed away herself.

Yes, and then only her kid is remaining. I believe

yes, and She had another son too, but he I guess

committed suicide I think mm -hmm. Yep Yeah,

I thought it was nice cuz I didn't even know

Papshmer the the character of Papshmer I didn't

know he was in the first film I had no idea until

I watched it this week So I thought it was nice

that they brought back a recurring character

like that as far as being the Behind -the -scenes

type, you know silent villain partner thing The

mother was just funny as hell I I found some

of her stuff pretty funny. Yes Like especially

when she gets the teleprompter dropped on her

head, hit the Academy Awards. The Academy Awards,

not a lot of films, even now. You can't film

during the Academy Awards. Not really. You can't

film at the Shrine Auditorium with the stage

that they have. And I don't even think the Shrine

uses or the Oscars uses the dual winding down

staircase. uh... anymore i'm not sure i'm i'm

not a i'm not an awards junkie i don't watch

those damn things anymore cuz half the time their

flake especially the oscars like this past year

i i tried watching them first of all sorry Sorry

Hugh Jackman slash Wolverine fans, he should

not sing. Not because he's not good at it, because

it's boring as hell and almost asleep, but anyway,

we're kind of getting off topic. So you're saying

people watch those? Apparently. I didn't know

that people actually paid attention to those.

Apparently a lot of people do. I didn't think

I'm interested in those people's radar. They

don't done mine. Well, yeah, well, you know,

we are geeks, so. Yeah, I don't care to see Hollywood

spank each other's ass and say, oh yeah, great

job, blah, blah, blah. If it was films that I

actually knew, I think the only two films out

of the entire set that were there this year,

and I know we're getting off the topic, but it

kind of blends into the plot of the whole third

film because they're trying to blow up the fucking

Academy Awards. The only two films this year

that I really remembered was the the curious

case of Benjamin Button and Wasn't so curious

case to me and Wally Which I'm sorry Iron Man

and Dark Knight should have taken every category

at that show this year But Iron Man wasn't even

nominated and Dark Knight was only nominated

for soundtrack and behind -the -scenes stuff

That's that's pretty messed up. Yeah, whatever

So anyway back to this over it. Yeah, I really

don't care or it's whatever I like how they make

fun of all the new categories There's like thousands

and thousands of envelopes to go through Which

it makes it seem like this show lasts for like,

you know two days Which I'm sure it does and

then they just show you the edited condensed

version. Oh, yeah, probably so I did actually

like how they showed the in this film doing the

Academy Awards The behind -the -scenes things

with the producer and the director in the booth.

I thought that was kind of cool showing that

And I guess we should mention that Leslie Nielsen

is a doppelganger for Phil Donahue Yes Yes, I

forgot completely about that part, but yeah,

that is very, very true. I remember that now.

We should also mention Raquel Welch gets a microphone

down her throat, which, you know, draw your own

conclusions, folks. Practice? Anyways, let's

move on. Talk about snowballing. Okay. That's

where you really need the booing. That was just

a bad joke, man. I know. That was a low blow.

We need to get off this subject. Yeah, we do.

It's dragging way downhill. Yeah, we do. Yeah,

I guess I can boo myself. And I'm sorry if the

sound clips come out louder than normal. I'm

still having headset issues as far as volume

control. Anyway, so yeah, I think we're going

to move on to the general talking about the characters,

you know, stuff like that. So the film reviews

are over. All right, we're gonna be talking about

the characters the box office stuff just the

general stuff of all three films as we mentioned

in the third the second Discussion second film

discussion the first film grossed around 78 million

seven hundred fifty six thousand hundred seventy

seven dollars Second one grossed amazingly eighty

six million and third one fifty one million okay

yes for the second one being the worst out of

the three it grows the most makes no sense I

think why it probably did is because everybody

like the first one and they were you know anticipating

a sequel I guess we can move on to the characters

with starting with Leslie Nielsen as sergeant

Frank Drebin, a Dutch -Irish detective lieutenant

police squad. He is the main character of all

three films and former TV series Police Squad.

In the first two movies he and Jane have had

a relationship. In the third film they are married

and Frank is retired from the force. I did like

the scene and I know we're done with the movie

discussion, I forgot to bring this up. I did

like the scene where Nordberg and Ed come by.

And Frank is like all domesticated and stuff.

I thought that was kind of funny. Let's see.

Let's see, where was I? He is known for being

a bumbling fool, oblivious to the disasters he

constantly triggers. He, Ted Olsen, and Al, who

only appears in the first film, are the only

characters who appeared in both Police Squad

and the Naked Gun films. and were portrayed by

the same actor. And then we can go on to Ed.

Alright, what do you think of the overall characterization

for Drebben? For Frank? Yeah. The overall characterization,

I'd say that his character, I like the fact that

he was a bumbling moron, and that somehow mistakenly

he'd stumble upon the solution to an issue and

how much pain or suffering he'd cause everyone

in the process of discovering whatever it is

he was trying to do. Yeah. Especially like in

the first movie when he was talking to Ludwig.

Yes. And Ludwig's turned around and he ends up

playing with this pen and then stabbing the fish.

And then, yeah, I like Stuff like that. I don't

know. It's just the character is just a moron,

but he's funny as hell Yeah, I would have to

agree and I meant to bring up that scene in our

first discussion but As I've said before I can't

stand any of these films So the next character

on the list is played by Priscilla Presley she

plays Jane Spencer Grebin In the first film,

she is Vincent Ludwig's assistant, but knows

nothing about his world domination plans. After

she spends the night together with Frank, she

helps him with his investigation. She returned

in the second film, revealing that her relationship

with Frank is over. She has a new boyfriend,

Quentin Habsburg. This is the second time she

falls for a man with evil plans. she and frank

make up during the end of the second film in

the third film in which she is married to frank

who is retired from she reveals to be a lawyer

um... and i didn't mention that though that scene

in in the third film discussion my two favorite

scenes out of the third film was the beginning

with the with the the courthouse steps and then

the lawyer scene with her with babies everywhere

And then the judge, even as a kid, he's banging

the gavel and she goes, no, no, no, mommy said

no banging the gavel during court. What do you

think? There really isn't any characterization

shortened. Yeah, she's basically just there.

Yeah. I guess we can move on to Mr. O .J. Simpson

as Officer Nordberg, one of Frank's colleagues.

He and Frank are partners for about five years,

and he is Frank's best friend. As stated in the

first film, Nordberg always gets himself in very

painful situations in all of the films. Officer

Nordberg without... Wait, what? Oh, okay. Officer

Nordberg without the D from Police Squad seems

to be the same character. According to the internet

movie database Norberg was portrayed by Peter

lupus Wow Okay The you know, I don't have I Didn't

see the the series so I really can't compare

the two No, I can't either As I've said before

today, you know You know earlier in the episode

today that I did like some of the comedy scenes

with him like hospital the hospital when frank

causes the hospital bed to go up and down and

all around and yeah that was pretty funny you

know that was funny at the end of the first film

when his wheelchair goes down the down the stadium

steps that was funny um and we move on to george

kennedy as captain ed hocken frank's boss ed

simulates frank to talk to jane in the second

movie just like frank in nordberg he knows a

lot about boxing He is responsible for Quentin

Hapsburg's accidental death, although the real

cause of his death is that he was eaten by a

lion. Oh yeah, that's right, Ed rushes over to

Frank and hits Frank because Frank was holding

Hapsburg. It's revealed in the first film that

he is married to a woman named Ethel. Although

the second film he is married to a woman named

Edna and in its day that he has been For 30 years

in the TV series police squad. He was portrayed

by Alan North I think my favorite Ed moment was

when Ted shot him with the tranquilizer dart

and he goes Ted why and he falls over He was

always eating stuff I don't remember much of

that. He was always, I don't know if it was the

third or the second film, he was always eating

stuff. And those are basically the main characters

as far as the heroes. We're going to kind of

like talk about the villains, I guess, the main

villains. In the first film you had Vincent Ludwig

portrayed by Ricardo... Malta Barnes. Yeah, there

you go. I played Khan in the original Star Trek.

Ah, Star Trek reference. Yes, and he was also,

I think, in an old classic TV series. It was

like The Love Boat or something like that. I

don't know. Some shit like that. I don't know.

I'm not an expert on him. Yeah. And then in the

second film, you had Robert Goulet playing Quentin

Hapsburg. in each of these it gives it gives

how they died which we've already kind of talked

about except for Rocco's Rocco who was played

by Fred Ward in the third film he falls from

a catwalk in the theater but because he has the

cord attached to his ankles the recoil elevates

him innocent flying away through the roof into

an overflying private airplane which explodes

seconds later because he was holding the ticking

bomb It should also be noted that Pap Schmier

was on that plane. And then we have notable cameos.

David Zucker, who was the director of the first

two films, played a man fixing a picture up onto

the wall of his house. The driving instructor,

who was played by John Houseman, I think has

passed away, yeah. This is his final appearance.

Yep. The baseball announcer was dr. Joyce brothers.

There was a lot there was a lot of baseball people

Yeah in the first film you had Kurt Gowdy who

is now passed away Just a whole bunch of James

Earl Jones was in the third one and also was

in he made a cameo in scary movie for which Leslie

Nielsen was also in yes And then Ray Burke, which

at first I thought that said Ray Bork as in the

hockey player But it doesn't anyway played Pab

Schmier He was the only actor to the only actor

to play the same villain twice in the saga Appearing

as Pab Schmier in the first and the last movies

and of course weird Al hasn't appeared in all

three as which also in addition to that he was

in another movie with Leslie Nielsen which was

called spy hard and did the opening theme for

the movie oh that's cool yes um which i found

spy heart a lot more entertaining than this entire

series yeah it was made as a one shot meaning

that nothing else was to come out of it yep which

was probably the best thing they could have done

oh yes very much so especially with matlock as

the uh villains oh christ And I wanted to say

about it wasn't the love boat for record Cardo

Montalban It was fantasy island just so they

don't have people emailing deep lane deep lane

Thing is what the only time the only thing I

remember from fantasy island is is that All right,

let's just go ahead and do I mean we didn't really

get into this in the first episode Why don't

we just go ahead and score do like from zero

to ten scores? I give all three of them zeros.

Okay. Well, I'm going to be a little bit more

fair on it than you perhaps would be. I'm giving

the first movie a five out of ten, meaning that

it wasn't entirely crappy and forgettable. The

second movie, I give it a one because it had

some of the characters recurring. The third movie

I give it a 4 only because I've seen it many

many times and laughed at several scenes within

it and in my childhood anyhow and it's one I

remember more so than the second one. Yeah. I

mean if I was going to be more fair and just

not go by my viewing this week I'm not going

to change my zeros. because I did not laugh ex

you know maybe two or three times throughout

all three but if I was gonna be more fair I do

agree that there are some funny parts but for

me it's just not it excuse me it's just not there

it's just not there so I guess we're gonna go

into the closing after this deleted Thanks for
