About this Episode

Mike and Steve discuss Good Will Hunting, the 1997 drama that launched Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to stardom. They cover the film's Boston setting and culture, the performances of Robin Williams, Damon, Affleck, and the supporting cast, and reflect on how the story of Will Hunting resonates with themes of loyalty, friendship, and life choices. The hosts explore the film's writing, casting decisions, and why it remains a touchstone for anyone who's seen it.

This is Dave. He really enjoys going to the movies.

He's always considerate to his fellow moviegoers.

This fellow is disturbing everyone around him.

Oh look, Dave is shutting off his phone. Now

is not the time for talking or texting. Oh well,

now look at that. There's a true movie watching

friend. Let's all be more like Dave. This is

M -Wire, movie we can review. M -Wire is brought

Shut up Morgan, you're going. I'm not going.

So don't go. I'm not going. Fucking go, Morgan.

Let me tell you something, get out there in two

fucking seconds when I'm done with them young

men. M -Wire is back and brand new with a brand

new format and a whole new outlock on the film

industry. Well, maybe not. I am one of your hosts,

TFJ and Mike, and Jeremy is whoever the hell

I'm having here this week. Anyway, no, it's Steve

Pegatron. Hello. Hello. Yes, and this is episode

121 of MWIRE I Would have to look and see when

the last one was that you were on I honestly

don't remember somewhere in the teens Yeah somewhere

if I could remember with episodes were there

I would be able to tell you more clearly Yeah,

it's been a while since we've done one of these

together. I remember when I put the Galaxy Quest

episode up, you're like, yo, bastard, how dare

you do that without me? Yeah, I got over it.

Apparently you're here. Yeah. Maybe, no, that

was powers. Oh man, if you haven't been on here

since summer films of 2014, holy crap, that's

a while ago. Wow. Anyway, so as I said, we are

back, we are brand new, we are on the road to

episode 150. What's gonna happen here, folks,

is we're gonna give you... The next 29 podcasts

and we're gonna be hitting films that in our

six and a half year history We never ever got

to I'm not gonna tell you what any of them are,

but they are classic franchises They are some

random fun films they are A couple of new films

are mixed in there, but it's gonna be a lot of

fun. Steve and I are really looking forward to

it. There's gonna be other hosts as well, but

Steve and I are pretty much gonna do the majority.

So that's what's going on with MWIRE. We are

back and it's time to get down to business. The

interesting thing with episode 121 here is we

are going over it. We're gonna talk about a film

that... Is very near and dear to my heart because

it's you know all about Boston I Can't believe

I can still pull that off But I wanted to do

with some snickering over there and don't say

you're breathing don't even try it I was trying

to think of a witty comeback, but I was like,

nah, I'm not gonna offend these people. I wanted

to do some research in the GCR and history for

MWIRE because this is only the, let's see, one,

two, three, this is the fifth film. that we've

ever done with one of these actors that is in

Good Will Hunting, which is the film we're going

to be talking about in this episode. And after

the fifth film that we had done with this person,

we had to do sadly a reflection and a remembrance

of, because sadly he is no longer with us. Good

Will Hunting stars Robin Williams, folks, and

we have only done five of his movies before this.

on Mwire so we've got a brand new format like

I said we've got five segments here we've got

lights camera action which will be an overall

beginning of the show kind of rapid -fire discussion

giving you facts about the film and the plot

and whatever else and then we'll have a brief

discussion on when we first saw it and whatever

else We'll then go and jump on the casting couch

in the second segment and talk about the cast

of the movie. We will then go to, well, I don't

want to say to jump or not to jump the shark

because it's a TV thing, but it's essentially

what it is where we give our thoughts in depth

on the film, and then we're going to rate it,

and then we're going to close out the show after

that. So M -Wire is going to be a lot more simplified

here. going forward. Any thoughts on the new

direction, sir? I like it. I like it a lot. Yeah,

it was bad Jim Carrey impression. Yeah, yeah.

All right, folks, we are going to hit those lights

camera action after this. It's a real piece of

shit. Well, tell me what you really think. Just

the linear and impressionistic mix makes a very

muddled composition. It's also a Winslow -Holman

ripoff, except you got Whitey rowing the boat

there. Well, it's odd, 1A. It wasn't very good.

That's not really what concerns me, though. What

concerns you? It's the coloring. You know what

the real bitch of it is? It's paint by number.

Is it color by number? Because the colors are

fascinating to me. Are they really? What about

that? I think you're about one step away from

cutting your fucking ear off. Really? Oh, yeah.

I think I should move to the south of France,

change my name to Vincent. You ever heard the

saying, any port in the storm? Yeah. Yeah, maybe

that means you. In what way? Maybe you're in

the middle of a storm, a big fucking storm. Yeah.

The sky's falling on your head. The waves are

crashing over your little boat. The oars are

about to snap. You're just pissing your pants.

You're crying for the harbor. So maybe you did

what you gotta do to get out. Maybe you became

a psychologist. Bingo. That's it. Let me do my

job now. You starve with me. Come on. Maybe you

married the wrong woman. Maybe you should watch

your mouth. Want you right there chief, all right?

Well, that's it isn't it you married the wrong

woman What happened Why'd she leave you was she

you know banging some other guy If you ever disrespect

my wife again Alright folks, time to hit the

lights, get the camera ready, and it's time for

action! The theatrical release for Good Will

Hunting was December 5th, 1997. The DVD release,

because I could not find the Blu -ray information,

but the DVD release was December 8th, 1998. I

assume that is also when it hit VHS, because

it's funny, um, since my mom has passed away,

I don't know, five, six months ago. I was going

through her stuff. She actually has an original

copy of Good Will Hunting on VHS, folks. The

director of the film was Gus Van Zant. It stars

Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Mimi

Driver, or Minnie Driver, I should say, Casey

Affleck, Cole Hauser, Stellan Skarsgard, and

a bunch of other people. It made $225 .9 million

at the box office. I believe that's an overall

total. And the critical reception for this thing

was huge. I mean, this movie took everybody by

storm in 1997. You know, everybody's like, oh,

1997, oh my god, Titanic, oh my god. No, folks.

If you were born in Boston, this was your movie.

When did you first see this do you remember I

actually first I'm trying to think of when I

first saw this I know I saw it with Mary my wife

and I Want to say it was like at our There are

second place or the condo is one of the two it

was like 2006 ish I want to say I may have seen

it before that but I can't recall seeing it before

that But yeah, I remember watching it and it

was it was really good the first time I watched

it Mm -hmm. Absolutely those that don't know

Good Will Hunting, American drama film directed

by Gus Van Zayten stars Matt Damon, Robin Williams,

Vin Affleck, Mindy Driver, and Sean Skarsgard

written by Affleck and Damon with Damon in the

title role the film follows 20 year old South

Boston laborer Will Hunting an unrecognized genius

who is part of a deferred prosecution agreement

after assaulting a police officer becomes a patient

of therapist Sean McGuire and studies advanced

mathematics with a renowned professor Gerald

Lambeau. Through his therapy sessions, Will re

-evaluates his relationships with his best friend,

Chucky, and his girlfriend, Skyler, and himself

facing the significant task of thinking about

his future. When you first saw this, do you remember

what your initial reaction was after you watched

it? Well, one, I was really impressed with the...

capabilities that the three of them had done

in the film. Because you had Ben Affleck as the

kind of support kind of character, you know,

friend to Matt Damon. And then Matt Damon's like

this. He's a genius, but he's got, you know,

these other issues that that's why he has to

go to the shrink. And then you got Robin Williams

just playing flawlessly in a drama role. Absolutely.

I mean, that I. I wasn't at the time, I wasn't

a huge fan of like Ben Affleck or Matt Damon,

I mean I liked Matt Damon in the born movies,

but that was about the extent But I think it

kind of showed another Capability that the two

of them had and then later finding out that they

both you know kind of wrote it together Showed

that they were going to go leaps and bounds above

many in their generation I mean, I think I'm

probably wrong about this, but I think The very

first time during the 90s that I ever saw Ben

Affleck was as Shannon Hamilton in Mallrats,

the douchebag from Fashionable Mail who was dating

Brenda Walsh. I believe that's the first time

I had ever seen him. And seeing him here, I remember...

I don't remember seeing this in theaters. Obviously,

this movie was rated R and I was only 17 at the

time. But it's just one of those things where

it actually happened was one of the group homes

I was in, our therapist actually used this movie

as a therapeutic tool. He was like, yeah, the

only way you guys are going to get to watch this,

because it is rated R, and this was like in 98

after it had been released on VHS. um is if we

can find some sort of way to apply it to your

lives and i remember when i sat down and watched

it for me growing up in massachusetts being born

in massachusetts and knowing that lifestyle knowing

it's You know people say you know New York is

a state of mind which it is and but Massachusetts

is its own little world it really really is and

Watching this movie, and I hadn't been back to

mass and it was just 98 when I saw this the first

time I had been back to Massachusetts since I

left in 93 so it had been five years Since I

I mean I went home like once in 94 for a visit

but other than that I had been here in Kentucky

for the most part. So watching this movie, hearing

the accents, specifically on Matt and Ben's characters

with Chucky and Will, and even Casey Affleck's

character Morgan, just hearing those accents

and just seeing all of the exterior shots. Because

the interior shots, this is the funny thing about

this movie, all the exteriors is Boston and surrounding

areas from Massachusetts. The interiors were

mostly done up in Toronto, because MIT does not

have lockers in its hallways. I don't remember

seeing this. I just remember being blown away.

Because here's the thing, and this is what I

was saying about Massachusetts being its own

kind of state of mind. Take away the genius part.

At 13 years old, I was will hunting as far as

being that stubborn person that, you know, in

one of the senior's discovery says, you know,

one, because I have a job here and two, because

I live here. That's that back in the, you know,

when I was growing up in the eighties, early

nineties, that was the mentality you. You know,

you have your life is Massachusetts. It's not

just because your family's there, your friends,

just being there in that place. That was your

life. And it just hit home on so many levels

for me. Um, and I've seen the movie, Oh God,

up teen amount of time since that initial viewing

and even going back to it now, you know, nearly,

I mean, we're almost at the film's 20th anniversary.

It's two years away, but I mean it's just one

of those things where it's a film that just touched

everyone's lives that saw it. Because whether

you can relate to the Will character, whether

you can relate to Chucky and the Buddies, whether

you can relate to Skyler, whether you can relate

to Robin Williams' character or Ston Scarsgar's

character, there are so many relatable characters

in this movie. And it was just damn good. All

right, anything else you wanna say? No, I was

just I Couldn't add anything else. I completely

agree with you All right, so you know Ben and

Matt originally wrote this and They had shopped

it around to various places Originally it was

gonna be a thriller really I read that earlier

today. Originally, it was going to be a thriller.

It was going to be a completely different kind

of film, obviously. So jumping on the casting

couch here, we've got Matt Damon. I think after

this... I knew about the Bourne movies, but no,

wait, the Bourne movies came after this, though.

Yeah, they did. Yeah, so like, yeah. Knew about

the Bourne movies, but right immediately after

this because as I said the video release was

98 Well, this is pretty much what took him and

kind of made him big Yeah, very much because

I mean even looking at the budget it had ten

million dollars and it made 225 which That that's

a yeah, that's yeah Absolutely For me the next

thing I had seen him in After this I believe

yeah, it was in 2000. He was the voice of kale

in Titan a a Don Bluth film and then you know,

we went to the born stuff and talented mr. Ripley

and All the pretty horses and Legend of Bag of

Vance and I'm just pulling these titles out of

my head people I'm not even looking at anything

because I've Followed this guy, you know since

goodwill hunting He was in dogma with Ben there

were angels he was in chasing Amy as As one of

the network execs Because Ben was the lead character

in that You know, I mean Matt Damon has done

his had an amazing career He really really has

well, I mean really both of them have I mean

Matt Damon's even coming back to do another Bourne

movie Ben Affleck's doing Batman I mean, yeah

between the two of them. They've they've risen

so far. Oh I have those from those B actors to

a actors. I Mean just you know Looking at Affleck.

I mean, you know you he's had a lot of crap movies,

but he's had a lot of good ones, too Yeah, he

has but see here's the thing. It's like who would

have ever thought that? Ben Affleck Chucky from

Good Will Hunting would have had seven director

credits as a film director And you know what?

He's a better director than he is an Asher He

directed Gone Baby Gone in 2007. He directed

The Town in 2010, which we covered a few years

ago. He started directing both The Town and Argo.

I still need to see Argo. I haven't seen that

yet. And according to this, he's been... Why

would he be listed as? Announced for an untitled

Batman reboot as the director because he's gonna

direct the next Batman movie That was the stipulation

that He wanted to direct and write the next movie

which means it's probably actually going to be

good. Yeah First time since 89 and Can't dismiss

that movie, that was actually good. Yeah. Before

Mallrats, the most popular movie he was in was

School Ties. He played Chesty Smith. Before that,

he had an uncredited role in the Buffy the Vampire

Slayer movie in 1992. After Mallrats, he had

Chasing Amy, Good Will Hunting obviously, Phantoms,

Armageddon. Shakespeare in love 200 cigarettes

forces of nature, which is one of those One of

those bombs you mentioned wasn't that the one

with Sandra Bullock? Yeah, we have We have a

lot of movies that we cleared out of closing

that was one of the Everyone always bitches about

Reindeer Games. I'd have to go back and watch

it again, but I remember it being an alright

movie. He did Bounce with Gwyneth Paltrow in

2000. He reprised his role as Holden McNeil in

Jan Silent Bob Strike Back. He was in Changing

Lanes, The Sum of All Fears. I know people hate

it, but he was Daredevil. You know what's funny?

Matt Damon wants to be Daredevil now. In a movie.

Yeah, I don't think that'll happen. I don't think

that'll happen at all. I don't think Matt can

pull it off with the way he looks and... You

know, you never say never. I would have never

pegged Ben Affleck as Batman or Bruce Wayne.

And I'm actually starting to get behind the idea.

Yeah. Well, I've been behind the idea, but still.

That's besides the fact. Yeah. So, I mean, Ben

has had some amazing, amazing roles. And then

we'll be here all night talking about Robin Williams.

I mean, just, I can't even run down half of his.

He has so many great films that it's just, you

can't even. You can count on one hand the amount

of crap movies he's done compared to, and I'm

saying one hand. Yes, a lot of the stuff in the

2000s wasn't very good, but that's The funny

thing is is it always surprised me for a paycheck

though, but it was only because He was trying

to help out with stuff with Christopher Reeve

yeah, and that's why I took the paychecks and

I I was reading some of the stuff about the film

And I found it funny that they tried Ben Affleck

and Matt Damon trying getting Kevin Smith to

direct it He's like yeah, you need a good director

somebody that uh, you know has it's a visual

director Yeah, cuz cuz Kevin only direct at the

time Kevin only directed stuff that he wrote

and it's still to that degree for the most part

and it was probably best that they did that I

also like the fact that they intentionally put

a Earl sex scene in the middle of the script

in a weird place just to see if the scripts of

the studios had read it Which is actually really

ingenious because then they could be like well

that was just in there, you know That can be

removed. That's not a big deal. I Mean that's

that's actually a surefire way to see if people

are paying attention to you Mm -hmm with Robin

Williams. It always surprised me Not just in

film, but television to where he would show up

Everybody remembers Mark Don't get me wrong.

Everybody remembers. Well, it was a great show.

I mean, yeah it is Where he's did you know he

showed up in friends for an episode? Yeah, like

couple minutes and they had what was it? Billy

Crystal with him. Yeah You know but where he

really surprised me was and it shouldn't surprise

me considering he's done stuff like like one

hour photo and and that kind of stuff, but When

he showed up in the 2008 episode of Law and Order

Special Victims Unit Authority as Merit Rook,

that was probably the darkest thing I've ever

seen him do on television. I mean, that was just

amazing. But going down his filmography, we'd

be here all night long, folks, and we're not

gonna do that, but I mean, you know, stuff like

Jumanji, I know you don't like Jumanji, I know

a lot of people don't like Jumanji, I still love

that because it's the Robin Williams comedy that

makes that movie good. Stuff like Mrs. Doubtfire,

Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, obviously, I mean...

I remember when his death happened last year

that everybody was quoting the Genie, pretty

much. That was the one film out of his entire

filmography that people were quoting from. Just

an absolutely amazing actor. Still in scars are

still in scars guard is actually now part of

the Marvel universe He's the the professor whatever

that helped Loki in Avengers at first One that

helped Thor in the new one. Mm -hmm. Yeah He

was in the 2013 version of Romeo and Juliet He

was I think the only other thing I remember seeing

him in outside of this and outside of the Avengers

is I Think he was in the glass house. I think

I'd have to Scroll all the way down here. But

yeah, I Mean, he's a good actor. I like him.

He's alright Mini driver she's I remember the

first time I ever saw her was in 1995 in GoldenEye,

when Pierce Brosnan as James Bond is like talking

to Valentin Tsiolkovsky. Who's strangling the

cat? And Valentin's like, strangling the cat?

That's my mistress, Elena! And Minnie Driver

was singing in the movie. Oh man, but she's had

some, um... Some interesting ones. We actually

covered one of her movies before. Girls Point

Blank. I love that movie. She was in The Deep.

She was in Remember Me with Mulder with David

Duchovny. She was the voice of Jane in the 1999

Tarzan film. She was the voice of Brooke Shields

in South Park, bigger, longer, and uncut. But

overall I mean that this cast just amazing Absolutely,

love it Cole Howser He was the villain in too

fast too furious, and then he showed up as Bo

Laramie in paparazzi That was a good movie. Yep,

absolutely So I think that's gonna do it for

the casting couch let's Jump the film reel here

with some in -depth thoughts. What are your overall

in -depth thoughts on Good Will Hunting? You

know, I honestly It's one of those movies that

It kind of redefines these actors And I say that

because like the way that they portray things

in this it's not anything I'd seen at that point

them do and actually some of them never do again

Affleck's been doing all kinds of in -depth dramas

and thought -provoking kinds of dramas over the

last 10 years for the most part. That's really

what he's been doing. When he's done a comedy,

they've just kind of paled. We're looking at

you, G. Lee. I didn't even watch that movie.

The one I'm specifically talking about is the...

What's that damn movie? That's the one where

he did the fake Christmas. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Deck the Halls? No, that was... No, that was

Matthew Broderick. Oh, crap. What is that movie?

Damn it. Yeah, it's... God, I can't think of

it. Isn't it bad when you just, you can't remember

stuff like that? What the hell is that name of

that movie? Because like I've Shut up you Okay,

it was Surviving Christmas. Oh, yeah surviving

Christmas. Yeah, that was pretty bad I think

You know, it's funny that that he actually is

getting to place Batman now when he played Superman

once You didn't know that Ben Affleck He played

George Reeves in a movie in the 1950s version

of Adventures of Superman and so he was dressed

in the Superman costume playing Superman in it

So Yeah I mean, you know, that's the same thing

now with, you know, even I did this when he was

first announced as Batman. Well, looks like he's

going to be blind as a bat because of the Daredevil

connection. You know, it's funny. He's also got

like more movies under his belt than Damon does.

Yeah, but see I don't okay. It might have to

be a little special episode We do here on the

show because you compare the two I don't I don't

necessarily yeah, or we should do introspectives

on both of them Yeah, because they have a lot

of good movies. I don't think that Okay, yeah

most actors and actresses are measured by their

body of work, but honestly I prefer an actor

who is going to be selective about the rules

that they're in. I mean, yes. So they're not

doing a cash grab? Well, not even that. I mean,

okay, sure. You know, um, I think it was in J

and Silent Bob Strike back, and I'll grab the

clip for the end of the show here, where they're

doing the Good Will Hunting 2 spoof in the movie.

And he says something about... You know, you

gotta do the bad picture to get the good picture.

I don't know, I mean, actors doing stuff just

for a paycheck, I understand that. Don't get

me wrong, I get that, but I will look at someone's

filmography and by now you know the way my movie

tastes go. Either I love it or I just don't even

give a crap at this point. honestly for me if

an actor has let's say let's say Matt has 10

less films than Ben does you look at the 10 less

films that Matt didn't do compared to the 10

films that Ben did do that maybe weren't so great

stuff like bounce stuff like forces of nature

you know those kind of movies and You know you

compare them that way and is it better that Matt

didn't do ten completely horrible movies and

not saying that he would have done ten horrible

movies in all in a row anyway, but it just I

don't know I just The whole thing of who did

more than who it just I don't know it kind of

bugs the crap out of me because not everyone

can do Well, I mean, not everyone can do every

single thing. I mean, hell, even I can't do every

single podcast on the network. But you could

try. Well, I said this, um, um, actually, well,

this episode will be releasing on the same day.

So I said this on, on the pull bags origins episode

with, uh, Jesse W Jackson this week that, um,

if I could get away with it. I could probably

podcast for 24 hours. I really probably could,

because I really do enjoy the art and the craft

and all that stuff, but obviously I'm not going

to do that because you get to sleep some time.

Anyway, sleep. Sleep when you're dead, kid. So

Good Will Hunting, for me, in depth, everything

I love about this movie has to do with how the

characters interact with everything around them

and how the setting of Boston is portrayed and

how the culture of Boston is portrayed. That's

really what I love about Good Will Hunting. I

remember as, you know, 17 -year -old Mike, like,

why? Because I didn't get it. I didn't get that

there was a space between good and will. And

I'm like, Why are people hunting at Goodwill

like the actual organization? No, I was 17 shut

the hell up I was a dumbass, you know, but it's

just one of those things where I just didn't

understand it at the time but you know going

back and This is a movie when when I want to

feel like I'm back at home in Massachusetts This

is the movie that I will always watch Because

it you know with with Robin and and Matt in the

office telling the story about the 1975 World

Series. That whole story is just amazing. Will

as a character finally made a choice with his

life. How many times are you going to be able

to go after the girl? You know what I mean? I'm

glad that there was no, and I don't know because

I'm not looking at the Wikipedia page or anything

like that, but I don't know if there was any

different ending that they had in mind other

than Matt's character going off to get, you know,

get the girl like I said. But I just think Good

Will Hunting is one of those movies that is just

so well put together. It's so well written. The

acting is phenomenal. It's just so damn good.

I totally agree sir. Yep Alright folks it is

time for the GCRN review This is based on our

universal rating system zero to five stars You

can I will put the link in the post here so you

guys can go see what the universal rating system

descriptions are Zero to five sir. What are you

gonna give good will hunting? I'll give it a

four point five. I mean, it's I have a hard time

giving 5, so I gotta go 4 .5. I, you know, as

many times as I've seen this movie, I think the

only time I've ever really, and I'm not ashamed

to admit this, I think the only time I've ever

really fast forwarded, because I was so tired

of the character at the time, is when they're

at Chucky's house. and Morgan's upstairs. Hey

kid, oh god. Is there another VCR in the house?

Oh god. I gotta give it a five. I can't not give

it a five because every time I watch it I pick

something else new up about it. And it's just

a really charming story. There's nothing that's

off -pacing. There's nothing that's out of joint.

What you essentially have with Good Will Hunting

folks is you have Will and his friends, and then

you have Sean, played by Williams, and Gerald,

played by Skarsgard. They're best friends from

way back in college and whatever else and And

they even have a blow up in the movie, you know

You know, it's not about you you mathematical

dick. Why don't you get that? It's like I can

pull lives in this movie folks all night long

Alright folks, we're gonna take a quick break

and come back with That's A Wrap or Cut Cut Cut.

So that's the final segment, we'll be back after

this. Wonder if I'd be better off without her?

No, no, no, I'm not saying, like, better off.

I didn't mean it like that. It's all right. It's

an important question. Because you'll have bad

times, but that'll always wake you up to the

good stuff you weren't paying attention to. And

you don't regret meeting your wife? Why? Because

the pain I feel now? Well, I got regrets, Will,

but I don't regret a single day I spent with

her. So when did you know, like... that she was

the one for you. October 21st, 1975. Jesus Christ,

you know the fucking day? Oh, yeah. Because it

was game six of the World Series. Biggest game

in Red Sox history. Yeah, sure. My friends and

I had slept out on the sidewalk all night to

get tickets. You got tickets? Yep. Day of the

game. We're sitting in a bar, waiting for the

game to start. And in walks this girl. It was

an amazing game, though. Bottom of the eighth,

Carbo tied it up at a 6 -6. It went to 12. Bottom

of the 12th, in step to Carlton Fisk. Old Pudge.

Steps up to the plate, you know, he's got that

weird stance. And then, boom! He clocks it, you

know. High five all on the left field line! 35

,000 people on their feet yelling at the ball,

but that's nothing, because Fisk, he's waving

at the ball like a mad man. He's going, get over,

get over, get over. And then it hits a foul,

pull, he goes, and shit, and 35 ,000 fans, you

know, they charge the field, you know? And he's

fucking bowling. Oh, no, he's not bowling. Get

out of the way, get out of the way. I can't fucking

believe you had tickets in that fucking game.

Did you rush the field? No, I didn't rush the

fucking field. I wasn't there. What? No, I was

in a bar having a drink with my future wife.

You missed Pudgefist's home run? Oh, yeah. To

have a fucking drink with some lady you never

met? Yeah, but you should have seen her. She

was a stunner. I don't care if you fucking...

Oh, no, no. She lit up the room. I don't care

if Helen of Troy walks into the room. That's

game six. Oh, my God. And who are these fucking

friends of yours? They let you get away with

that? They had to. What did you say to them?

I just slid my ticket across the table and I

said, sorry, guys, I gotta see you about a girl.

I gotta go see about a girl. Yeah, that's what

you said. I had and they let you get away with

that Oh, yeah, they saw my eyes and I meant it

You kidding? No, I'm not kidding. You will that's

why I'm not talking right now about some girl

I saw it about 20 years ago and how I always

regretted not going over and talking to her I

don't regret the 18 years. I was married to Nancy

I don't regret the six years had to give up counseling

when she got sick and I don't regret the last

years when she got really sick I'm sure as hell

don't regret missing a damn game That's regret.

Wow. Would have been nice to catch that game,

though. I didn't know Pudge was gonna hit a home

run. Hello, geeks and geekettes! Looking for

three. Goodwill Hunting 2, hunting season, scene

16, take five. So, Action Gus or... Jesus, Ben,

I said I'm busy. Yeah, I do remember the class.

But frankly, I found it rather elementary. I

remember that class. It was just between recess

and lunch. Are we gonna have a problem again?

I was still just hoping you might be able to

give me a little insight into the Southern colonies.

See, Wood says... What'd I say? What did I tell

you? You'd be back in here regurgitating Gordon

Wood. But you forgot about Vickers. No, I just

read Vickers. So I'm up on inherited wealth hunting.

But you're no longer the angry, brilliant, young

mind you once were, just itching to vent your

frustrations. Oh. You stopped hitting the books

with a vengeance, and now I've read shit you

haven't even heard about yet. Face facts, my

friend. You're just no longer that good. Will

Hunting? Now how do you like them apples? I don't

like the sound of them apples, Will. What are

we gonna do? Jackie? Yeah? It's hunting season.

Applesauce, bitch. So this final segment I haven't

decided if we're gonna call it. That's a wrap

or cut cut cut What they're their director terms

and I couldn't use porky pig and That's all folks

cuz that's cartoons Final thoughts on goodwill

hunting sir If you haven't seen it you are what

rock have you been under? If you want to see

actors excel and and have a really profound like

Statement in this in a movie and and have I don't

know It kind of connects with you even if you

don't have anything in common with them like

it it's just One of those films you just have

to see Right See here's the thing and I thought

about this during the break everything within

this movie As I've already said, obviously, is

pure Bostonian loyalty, legacy, whatever you

want to call it, you know, in the scene where,

you know, where they see Carmine and, you know,

Morgan's like, fuck that. We just saw him at

the park. If we were going to fight him, we should

have fought him there. We got snacks now. And

Chucky's like, if you're not out there in two

fucking seconds when I'm done with them, you're

next. You know, it's that kind of loyalty that

this group of friends, Chuckie, Will, Morgan,

and Bill, that's the loyalty of people from Massachusetts.

You're never gonna find a fiercer group of loyal

people. You just aren't. It's one of the reasons

why we're called massholes. If you piss us off,

look out. Um, that's one of the reasons why my

Boston accent only usually comes out when I get

really, really mad. I mean, I can pull it out

for Pac the Ca and Havid Yad, but that's, that's

just something I've always been able to do. But

like a full sentence, like this is my actual

speaking voice now that I've lived in Kentucky

for almost 22, 23 years now, but usually when

I'm really pissed is when it comes out and it's

just one of those things. But Good Will Hunting

absolutely loved this movie. As Steve said, if

you haven't seen it, you better crawl out from

under that rock and watch this damn movie. Coming

up next on MWIRE, it is all for one and one for

all as we Go back again to a movie that's, well,

22 years old, actually. Disney's Three Musketeers

with Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, Charlie

Sheen before he drank tiger blood, Rebecca DeMornay,

and Tim Curry as Cardinal Richardieu. For now,

I am TFG1Mike with Steve Megatron Phillips. Keep

those film reels rolling. We will catch you next
