About this Episode

The hosts discuss the latest episode of Collection Intervention, focusing on the segments featuring Sean Long and Howie. They examine how the show portrays collectors versus hoarders, the apparent staging of dramatic moments, and the lack of professional therapy for the individuals involved. The discussion also touches on the reality of being a professional toy reviewer versus a collector, and how the program presents these hobbyists to a general television audience.

Starscream here, and I am the lord and master

Episode 29, I believe. I am, of course, TF2 and

Mike, and with me is Optobotamus, hello. Hello.

DarthDevious, hello. Hello, greetings and salutations.

And of course, SlimeblowerBob, hello. Hello there.

Paul, you sound so thrilled. I'm... I'm trying

to do a football draft, and I'm... He's multitasking.

to pick up the refrigerator, Perry. He's going

to kill this year. I probably would, yeah. So

we are here to talk about Collection Intervention,

the latest episode this week. There was no Toy

Hunter, which I'm kind of glad about that there

was no Toy Hunter because this Collection Intervention

episode was probably going to be a bulk of this

podcast review. Before we get into it, Paul,

did you have a chance to watch last week's Collection

Intervention since you weren't on the show last

week? No, yeah. I've seen it. I've seen it. Uh,

what did you, just briefly, what did you think

of last week's episode? Because we've already

all given our thoughts on it. Yeah, uh... I mean,

it's... I'm still not a huge fan of the show

itself. I mean, it's kind of... Um... Let it

out. Go ahead. It's... It's... It's a stupid

show. That's I mean it really is when it comes

down to it. You're sitting there showing all

these things that That that collectors Do but

they're not even collectors. These are people

that are hoarding collectibles and To me that's

not really being a collector All right, so with

that we're going that's I mean, that's all I

can really think of. As I said, like, when we

first started doing these new episodes of Team

Bottomless, I said, you know, the show shouldn't

be called Collection Intervention. It should

be called Toy Hoarder, is really what it should

be called. So with that, we're going to get into

this week's episode. We'll be back after the

promo. Wow. Yes. 30 ,000 comics in our home.

There's nowhere in this house where there's no

Star Wars. Now might be the time to sell. We

just need more space. This is about new doors,

new life. You know, no one says you can't collect

anymore. The goal is for you to live in your

house with your beautiful collection, but for

there to be room. Of his years worth of collecting

will it make it easier for him to sell his beloved

items learn the dollar value my fucking asshole

He's going through all of his hot toy stuff And

he's like oh, you know these these are you know

but worth between 200 and $500 some of them You

know even more blah blah blah and Sean's like

oh wow you know I didn't know that whatever well

Before we get into the long shot there, let's

talk with the other guy first, because the other

guy was more so the main focus of it, Howie.

My issue with Howie and his collecting is...

It's not even... You know, people can collect

whatever they want to collect. I don't care.

I just find it an issue, especially with this

show and how this show portrays these people.

that, um, you know, they're, you know, they get

around to the point of, of, of digging through

the boxes and whatever else. They didn't even

put a dent in his massive house filled with stuff.

That whole, that whole thing was bullshit. That

whole exercise. Yeah. I mean, you, you can already

tell that You know, Howie really hated that therapist.

Yeah. And was just annoyed with them. And I can

understand why. I mean, the therapist the entire

time was really kind of patronizing. And he was

pretty much pushing Howie into doing something

versus saying, would you like, you know, I believe

he did say, would you like to do this. But Howie

the whole time was just completely resistant

to it. I'm drinking a beer. My problem with Howie

is that when Elise came back, and she said okay

let's let's look at some of this stuff and apparently

she collects movie posters or she used to whatever

okay um you know they just went after his his

movie posters he had a whole bunch of other stuff

and then they did this angle of oh I wanted to

be an art gallery show. You're not a fucking

artist, Howie. You're a collector of movie posters.

How the fuck can you have a gallery show? You

can have a gallery show for anything. I mean,

I could have a gallery show. I mean, just have

people come in and look at my crap. I mean, it's

just stuff that you have. Isn't that every Saturday

night? Basically. I mean, really. Ustream .com

slash Octobotimus. That's right. Well, it's Ustream

.tv slash Octobotimus, but wait, it's screwed

up. Anyhow. But the whole thing with the gallery

thing, it's just a way of displaying things in

the hope that you're going to sell something.

That's all a gallery show really is. You're showing

stuff off that you hope that you can sell. Most

of the time, it's art, which is fine. That's

the way it goes. But, you know, he didn't want

to really do that, it seems. You know, I mean,

when he got there too, he was already pissed

off because one of the ones that he liked the

most was sitting in the doorway, you know, sunbeating

on it. The sun's gonna eat it away. Now, I mean,

those collectors are a little bit ridiculous.

I mean, honestly, it's not gonna yellow in a

couple hours, you know? Yellowing happens to

something over the course of a long time where

it's been in the Sun Unless unless you're the

state pop marshmallow. Yeah, exactly, you know

It could happen in a couple matter days Which

translates to a couple months, but I mean honestly,

I mean those are people that are freaking out

about it now You know if somebody came up to

me and wanted to do something like that with

my fort max would I get upset? Probably, but

I probably wouldn't freak out like he seemed

to do I mean now that was kind of extreme and

you know last week we saw I actually know the

guy he's he's a he's a local person out here

And he comes to our meetups and stuff his name

is David He handles all of his stuff with gloves

Which is a little bit creepy to me, but the purpose

of doing that is oils on vintage figures can

really ruin things. So I understand the purpose

behind it, but if the stuff's not getting handled

that much, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Because keeping him stored in cardboard boxes

up in an attic probably doesn't hurt him at all

either. That's my main problem with the Howie

segment from this week is that all of the stuff...

Hold on, hold on, hold on. What you don't understand,

Bob, is in California, we can store stuff on

our attics. Unlike places in the Midwest, like

where you're from and where I was born and raised

in Michigan, if you put stuff in attics, it gets

very hot, it gets very humid, and can easily

destroy things. Yeah, that's the worst place

for them. Yeah, but not here in California. There's

no mildew in your attics or nothing? Mildew only

happens when there's water and it... But you

live near the ocean! It's called salt water.

Milk dude, milk dude cannot grow unless like

if you get your deck wet Or or whatever if you

get your patio wet or if your basement floods

You know, that's how milk dude gets in there

There has to be some kind of like a standing

water there for a fair amount of time Does milk

salt water like eat your cars up and whatnot?

No, we don't drive our cars in the ocean Salt

okay, all right salt water salt the salt from

salt water stays in the ocean because even though

that water evaporates Salt is heavier than water

is so the water will evaporate, but the salt

content remains It doesn't go anywhere. It stays

the same I actually kind of learned that with

my fish tank where the water will evaporate,

but the amount of salt Remains the same because

salt doesn't evaporate. So no our salt doesn't

destroy our cars So getting back around to the

review here it does it does destroy cars though

with in like say the mountains Where people they

use salt as a way to like melt ice and stuff.

Yeah that happens My main problem with The way

that they approached Howie is they bring his

friend in, Danny, and then his friend leaves.

His friend doesn't even stay to help him go through

the stuff. Or wherever else. He leaves for a

few hours, comes back, and then he and Elise

are supposedly helping Howie go through the stuff.

This guy has an entire house filled with stuff,

yet they only picked maybe 20, 30 pieces, half

of which he didn't even want to fucking sell.

The way it should have been approached is, you

know, Howie, we know you are a collector, but

are there any items in here, whether it's movies,

whether it's posters, whether it's DVDs, whatever,

that you feel that you don't need anymore, that

you would like to sell to help yourself get some

actual money, you know, and whatever else. But

no, they didn't do it that way. They just...

Made it this whole gallery thing and but as Paul

said, you know in the gallery half the time He

was like no, it's not for sale. No, it's not

for sale And he was making deals like three four

five hundred dollars for posters There was one

where I think I think there was one was like

a three thousand dollar poster You know, I mean

With the amount of stuff that how he had I mean

they only did like his living area They didn't

go into the bedrooms or if you had a basement

He probably doesn't even have a freaking clue

of what he actually has anymore because it just

gets so out of control You're like, I mean I

even do that. I go through my closet. I'm like,

wow, I haven't seen this in years I totally forgot

I had it, you know It's like and I don't have

anywhere close to those guys and it's like how

does he even know what he has? That's I think

that's kind of the the underlining point of doing

the show that When you have a collection you

should have stuff that you can enjoy And if it's

sitting in a closet, if it's sitting in a pile

of mess, you're not enjoying it at that point

in time. It's just they're taking up space, but

people develop... See, that's the other part

of the thing, you know? The show doesn't focus

on the fact that these people on these shows

have actual physical, psychological problems

that the show is not helping with. Yeah, they're

bringing in a therapist that sits there, and

number one... A therapist is only gonna be helpful

if the person that's going to the therapist wants

to go to the therapist. You have to, you know,

I mean, people don't go to AA just for the fuck

of it. They go there because they recognize they

have a problem. Well, yeah, but, you know, the

intervention, you still have to, when you do

an intervention, they still have to agree to

do it. Otherwise, when they're sitting there

bitching about it, they're gonna be a lot more

resistant to it. But these guys, they don't think

that they have a problem. And there's no way,

this is not an intervention. This is not people

that care about I'm sitting down crying Just

you know watching them destroy their lives and

stuff if you guys want to watch an intervention

watch the show intervention I mean, that's real

shit. This stuff is just glorifying You know

mental cases for the most part and these people

are going on we're going on the show and try

to promote your business Yeah I'm on the fence

about that because like I said David is a friend

of mine So I actually know the guy and I'm sorry

I trashed the guy, but the way they go about

it It's not reality TV for the normal people

that aren't in Like the YouTube business or no

people in the YouTube business or no people that

collect or sitting at home going really he's

like 40 years old and You know, gets money from

his parents and goes out and spends $500 on toys.

It's so skewed out of the real, what real life

is for these guys. Yeah, but that's absolutely

true. I mean, that happened in last week, or

in yesterday's episode, when we saw that the

guy's talking about Thundercats, and he's talking

about Thundercat vehicles being $100 to $150,

while the production is showing a picture. of

the new 2011 or 2012 Thundercat tank. I'm like,

really? That thing's worth 100 to 150 bucks?

I got one sitting right here. I'll sell it for

75 right now. You could find them on clearance

for like 15 bucks now, because the show's dead.

Well, yeah, but that's not the point. People

don't know that. These shows are not designed.

These shows are not designed. This is something

that I just basically came up with. This show

is not designed for collectors. Just like the

Transformer movies are not necessarily designed

for Transformer fans. They have to appeal to

a gigantic mass of people, otherwise the show's

not going to last. So they put all this stuff

on here and they hype up all this drama and they

make it, you know, they TV it all up so that...

Regular people will watch it. I mean we know

the behind -the -scenes stuff, but I was watching

I was going through reading some comments on

get glue and People are like you're talking about

Sean. They're like how the hell can he afford

all of this stuff? You know and he's like the

dudes picking his girlfriend over he's picking

toys over his girlfriend They don't know they

just know what the TV shows them, right? That's

all it is. I mean, little do they know that Sean

actually, you know, I mean, you know, the Elise

chick is bitching. Or not even bitching. I shouldn't

even say bitching. She wants him to have a collection.

And when you look at Sean's stuff, his collection

kind of stuff, Mike and I talked about this last

night, a little bit, that his collection stuff

is mostly his hot toy stuff. And that's nicely

protected and nicely displayed. Everything else

that's spewed across his apartment is shit that

he bought. for review purposes that he never

ended up getting to. And then it just accumulates

over and over again. She sits there and talks.

I saw her on Twitter. She was talking to Count

Marzo. And he's like, you know, reviewing toys

is his business. He's like, no. Reviewing mass

-produced modern toys is his business. His collection

is his collectibles. Sean doesn't have, I mean,

so they're sitting there bitching. All this stuff

that... You know, she wants to do, she wants...

What the hell was that? Get to the phone. Someone

get the phone! Get the phone. It's a bad phone.

It's a bad phone. It's finishing the golden.

But I mean, you sit there and you listen to her

and she talks about how it's the collection.

She wants him to focus on his collection and

get rid of all the extra stuff. Well, all that

extra stuff is his business. And that was the

thing that they never brought up they mentioned

it he mentioned it himself once that he's a reviewer

on YouTube They actually showed one of his reviews

They actually showed one of his YouTube videos

right they showed like a brief portion of it,

but they never really said like Like be like

this episode They never said what what how he

does for a job and they never said what Sean

does for a job last week They pimped out toy

held calm to no end You know and they I don't

I don't even think Last week when they're the

other part of last week's episode when they were

talking about the combo guy I don't think that

they had to mention what what his his job was

is because it was more so his wife wanted space

in their apartment with David and Sean they both

have online jobs and I don't know it just But

just I wonder how many more viewers Sean got

last night on his YouTube page because they typed

in Sean long and found them I bet it was like

through the roof and That right there. If you

would like to know I can tell you exactly Well,

I mean, I don't really I don't really care but

I bet that's what the shows are for for those

guys like Sean and last week with dweeb Just

mentioning their name Mentioning their names

is enough to give them all kinds of money now

because I bet his YouTube views went through

the roof Like I said Sean Sean yesterday Sean

Sean yesterday He He increased by 53 subscribers

Which is that's about average for him? That's

that's generally what it is. I don't think he

got much of a bump at all You'll think that's

not not at all. I mean his his video views it

hasn't updated yet for yesterday But his subscriber

count only went up 53 yesterday Which I mean,

I mean it that's not that's not out of the ordinary

considering September 1st. He went up 49 subscribers

Yeah for me the whole point of you know of Seeing

first of all why are they putting Sean Hong on

television? In the guy's ego That's part of the

problem. He already has a ego eagle. That's big

enough, but they Know that but again, we know

that the general TV audience does not know that

Yes, how can she talk like a normal human being

during the show? So he has it in him that he

could talk normal. He could talk like a normal

person. Yeah, but in all of his reviews I Don't

know It is an act. I mean the whole thing that

we saw on Yesterday on TV was an act. I didn't

see him shake one time. He didn't shake once

Well, they also didn't show close -ups of his

hands Just and again, it's more so with the way

the show is set up. It's like They set it up

for a cliffhanger commercial breaks They should

not do that the one cliffhanger commercial break

that just absolutely made me just like What the

fuck was when she told him, told Sean, when Elise

told Sean, you know, how would you feel about

talking to a therapist and he's like, uh, uh,

uh, and then, and then it went to commercial

break. As soon as the commercial break came on,

I came out here and I posted on GatGlu. Heaven

forbid anyone get emotional therapy. Run! Yeah,

I mean, it's... The whole thing is set up for

television. It's all set up for television. We're

going to see a trailer for one of the upcoming

episodes and somebody's going to be taking a

swing at that woman. I foresee this already.

I don't think that's how he was going to take

a swing at the therapist. I thought he would

have. I thought he would have taken one. I'm

surprised you didn't. But again, as we've said

multiple times, it is television, and I know

for a fact from watching other reality shows,

once you get physically violent, you're axed

right then and there. Well, for Big Brother,

anyway. But it's one of those things where I

don't think it's going to come to that at all

because... Just the way that collection intervention

is portrayed and shown. Sure, someone's gonna

get angry, but actually hitting Elise, I don't

think that'll happen. Like last night with the

guy with the movie posters and stuff, she was

like, would you care if we went through your

stuff? And he's like, I have no idea why you

would need to touch my stuff. As a collector,

I don't care if people touch my stuff. That's

what it's there for. Go look at it. Pick it up.

It's pretty cool looking, you know, go for it.

I don't want people touching my stuff. Okay,

Mexabotamus never touched anything in your room

when he was over in your house. Well, that's

slightly different, they're friends. I know he's

your friend, but did he, like, kill your OCD?

It's like, you know, he moved the figure an inch

over to the left and it's like... No, I mean,

the stuff that they would come over and play

with was, like, new stuff that I had just gotten,

such as, like, new figures. Yeah, it's not they

were they weren't playing with my g1 shockwave

or something. Yeah You know, but I would I I

mean I can tell you right now if I saw him and

they came over and they wanted to transform my

for They wanted to play with my brave max. I'd

be like no you should just leave that there.

Yeah, I Mean it's it's it's toys before bros.

No wait toys It's it's it's that if they fuck

something up they don't have five hundred dollars

to fix it is what it comes down to i mean it

i i mean i love the i love the guys i you know

i have you know that there is there's two little

boys that live next door they come over and you

know they play with a lot of a lot of the something

play well were my legos well well stop don't

even go there well shut up bob okay come over

i i they said i said they come over and they

play with my legos They come over play with my

stuff, you know, mostly my Legos Seriously, I'm

gonna get a noise Like okay if I even if you

know, even if I knew nothing about Sean at all

Just watching that episode last night. I was

cringing at the bad acting Yeah, but by who him

or his girlfriend both. Oh my god She said his

girlfriend's acting at the very end. We're like,

yay. Can I move in tomorrow? I love you. Oh My

god, I wanted to shove a little needle nose pliers

up his pee holes at that point in time. I mean

You need to take that clip of her saying saying

yay, and then you have to put like that that

clip from the map The Oscar thing so it's it's

it's just the whole situation is a gigantic joke

honestly so does his apartment really look like

that now like nice no yeah I mean did he go through

and like mess it up on purpose cuz he no it was

it was it was always mess like that they that

he got he was told that he was gonna be on the

show And they came in and they, you know, obviously

did their filming and stuff. And then afterwards,

obviously, with whatever money he got, I would

imagine, he really fancied the stuff up. I just

find it funny how, you know, the girl shows up

at the, Elise shows up at the house and his girlfriend's

there and he's like off in the bedroom somewhere

waiting for his cue. Hi guys, I'm Sean Long.

How much more to set up your B? Was in my bedroom

where I can't walk and just looking at my stuff.

I was in my studio so I could record yeah, it's

That nice green screen set up in his studio,

but he couldn't get to it there was too much

stuff in the way Oh god, and then the fact that

he didn't even help Elise when she tripped over

toys in his bedroom. That was so fake too. That

was fake. Oh yeah. He looked behind her, he's

like, are you okay? I hope you didn't step on

anything important. Like my Batman outfit. Oh

god. Yeah, that was fake. He was sitting on the

couch behind his girlfriend when they were doing

their initial interview. I'm like, that's his

stupid Batman costume. Yeah. Well, what you guys

have to understand is that... In terms of the

shooting schedule and stuff, Sean went to Comic

Con, and the Monday after Comic Con, they started

shooting. So that scene where you see him walking

in with a whole bag, like a whole bunch of stuff

at the very beginning, that was all him coming

home from Comic Con. And they used that in a

negative light. They did, yeah. Like he just

went out and spent thousands of dollars on toys

that he didn't need. Right. And half of those

he probably didn't even pay for because, you

know, I'm Sean Long. Oh, here, review this for

us. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm just

saying, you know, half that stuff's probably

was given to him. Oh, no, that's that's stuff

you have to buy a comic on. No, I mean, like

in his house, like you don't get like, you know,

I'm sure he had some people that go, hey, review

this for us. I'm sure it happened. Yeah. I mean,

yeah. So that's how it starts. It's like you

just keep getting free stuff. It's like, what

do I do with it after I review it? My main problem,

and I haven't seen what Sean's apartment looks

like now. After we finished recording the episode,

I'll have to go on sci -fi .com and look at his

update. I don't think they have it up there yet.

Oh, they don't? OK, well. No, not for him. Probably

next week. Yeah. I have it on iTunes, the episode.

flip I'm like just kind of scrolling through

here and It almost looks like stuff is just thrown

out there just to make it look more messy Yeah,

see that's what I was wondering my problem is

with with with Sean and Howie as well. It's like

if Even if they want to keep you know Having

all of this stuff Sean even said in his part

of the episode at least was like what's under

all the toys? He's like, oh, those are shelves

that I bought a few months ago, but I haven't

had time to build them yet. And I'm thinking,

if you have shelves under all these toys, why

don't you dig them out, build them, and put some

of the stuff that is his review samples or whatever,

put them on shelves so it doesn't look like a

frigging tornado went off in his house. Why don't

you organize the crap? have a shelf of like okay

this is all the stuff I have to do for work and

then all these other shelves are for collecting

you know the collects stuff and I'm actually

gonna collect whatever else and it just that

made no sense to me why he would and I understand

everybody gets busy in their life and all that

stuff but if Raquel wanted more organization

in this apartment or you know for her to move

in she wanted you know Don't even think it should

have been marketed as I want this stuff out in

order for me to move in with him I want it more

organized is what should have been said, but

she can't pick up something and move it and clean

it The house move it you know hey, can I do something

with this Well, yeah, but there's a lot of stuff

Yeah, I know, but it's got a start. It's like

you know you walk around it all day long You

can't just pick something up and move it out

of your way. It's like, oh, just walk over it.

And people are too lazy to walk down and pick

something up and move it. Like that dude last

night that had the posters and stuff, he was

sleeping on his couch because you could tell

that was his bed when they were panning over.

It's like you can't really clean off your bedroom

to sleep on a real bed. I mean, really, there's

more issue than just collecting and hoarding.

There's something wrong with that person. You

can't clean your home. I mean really? Yeah, but

I mean I don't necessarily think it's a matter

of them not cleaning I think it's you know like

in how his case there's not room to clean he

could clean his stuff, but There's not much room

for him to put the stuff. I mean it you're you'd

basically be moving it from one pile to another

What one less you know what going from one less

or less organized pile to? uh more organized

pile but it's still a pile nonetheless well i

know what amazes me is people they just don't

get fucking storage units if it's that big of

a deal get a storage unit because you could tell

it in in howey's case where he had his display

pieces or he had stuff on the walls or he had

like everything that was on the floor in boxes

All of that stuff could go to a storage unit.

If you're not going to display it, if it's not

going to be part of what you love about whatever

you're collecting, and it's just sitting there

in a fucking box, go get a goddamn storage unit.

And then three months down the line, or six months

down the line, when you don't pay the bills anymore,

Dave Hesto will come in. Yup, I'll take it. Yeah.

Exactly. I swear, collection intervention crossing

over with storage wars, that would be fucking

awesome. That could be interesting. It'd be collection

storage intervention Hey Mike, how comes you

hate Masters of the universe so much is because

Sean Long's collection last night No, it's because

of the shitty business practices at Mattel well,

no, I Seen you know that they made that a big,

you know pronounced them to make all he man and

all this and that and it was like the new collection

And I see on Twitter that you're like okay for

the record and the very last time I'm gonna say

this I was rolling I'll tell you about that offer.

There's nothing to do with this. There's nothing

to do with this episode of collection No, I thought

Sean's collection of you know It had something

to do with something somebody else on Twitter

Kevin what were your thoughts on the episode?

You haven't talked much so give your thoughts

Sometimes it's hard to get a word in edgewise

Californian I I was saying before we started

I thought that Sean's part was not even the main

focus I mean, I think he was just thrown in there

just as filler. Yeah, Sean was filler. He was

nothing Howie has a real problem. Yes, he does

that You could see how much it was hurting him

that they were going through his stuff like this.

Yeah and That's where you really have to have

it where Real therapists need to be brought in

not not somebody they bring in for five minutes.

They start sorting stuff in bins That's the problem

with this show. It's it's Showing somebody in

a really bad light, but they're not getting to

the core or the problem How we got a problem

he can't even walk through his house, you know

Yeah, that's that's a huge that I mean, I mean

Bob Bob touched on this these people have a lot

more serious issues than What were led to believe?

Yeah Sean doesn't Sean was just I've gotten around

to some of this stuff. I'm sure he's his full

was to review it and sell it but again, you know,

that's The problem with that is, like, we know

that. They don't focus on that enough, you know,

for the TV audience to pick up on that his job

is to review toys. They think he just has this

stuff just lying around for the fuck of it. They're

like, oh, this guy's got, you know... Again,

I was going back and reading the Get Glue comments,

and people are like, this guy needs to focus

his collection. He needs to pick one thing and

stick with it. That's fine for a collector, but

Sean's job... is doing reviews and even at least

kind of fucked that whole thing up you know making

it sound like you know he's got a you know weed

out his collection and get rid of you know some

so if he gets well I shouldn't say his collection

you know weed out you know his extra stuff but

that extra stuff is his job didn't didn't she

actually say that he was his worth of toys and

stuff was like six figures I remember saying

it was like, you know, $100 ,000 or whatever.

Yeah, I think he said like six figures. Yeah.

Well, that's what you think about the Hot Toys

thing. He knows what he has. Yeah, I mean, those

things are worth a lot. Yeah, but he knew it.

And it was like, really, they're, you know, $300

to $800 a piece. He knows what he has. Really?

Come on. Anybody that has that stuff knows what

they got. Yeah. And he actually really surprised

on the show. It's just... It's the way it comes

off. It just makes me want to punch a puppy I

would you want to commit animal animal abuse

because it's Sean Long's fault. I'm blaming him

It seems to me that they're doing it to put collectors

like us because Basically, we're all collectors

in some way shape or form Though some of us have

a better grip on it than others They're painting

us in a very negative light and They're going

after people who have actual mental problems

for are they collect some of this stuff You know,

I think I think they're trying to do that. But

I think you know somebody who's halfway intelligent

should realize that there are more issues than

You know, I mean hoarding can be anything You

know, they just happen to be hoarding toys. I

don't necessarily think that paints collectors

in a bad light. It paints these people in a bad

light because they're calling them out and saying

they're hoarders, basically. Hoarders. I keep

saying, I keep almost saying hoards. Hoards.

Hoards. Did you like what pixel Dan put up after

we're after the show he actually put well, you

know Does this make me a hoarder and he put his

you know picture of his collection up. Yeah.

Yeah, I was rolling Pixel Dan said So do I need

a collection intervention and I replied to him

and I said no the difference is You know, yes,

you are yes you buy stuff for yes you review

stuff but i i'm sure at some point you're gonna

you know some of the stuff you know some of the

extra stuff i'm sure you'll give away or sell

or whatever else but the point of your collection

dan is that you have it to collected and enjoy

it you don't have boxes toys laying all over

the place and uh... paul did well where he went

and sold his stuff at the end of the show have

you been there before No, Sean Sean Sean lives

up in like around Sacramento I Didn't know if

he was in East LA, you know where you're hanging

out. No, um, you know, I That whole thing you

could see was staged I mean Sean Sean staged

it himself, you know when like nobody was coming

up He's like I'm gonna try and promote this one

more time And he gets on his little phone and

he tweets something and there's even a part at

the end where some guy buy something And the

guy comes up to him, you know, Sean, you know,

he's like, you know, you know, thank, you know,

thank you for buying my stuff, you know, and

thank you for supporting me, too. I mean, he's

he's totally acknowledging that this guy is a

viewer of his. Yeah. Or a fan on Twitter is like,

OK, I'll be right there, you know. Right. You

know, and I mean, here's here's the scene right

here of them hugging each other. It's really

gross. And I mean, I have nothing against Raquel,

but they need to put a lot more makeup on her

to cover up her potholes. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

I actually saw her in person. Her and Sean were

at Comic -Con. I saw them at Comic -Con, and

I took my wife and we walked the opposite direction

because I did not want any interaction to happen.

And when I saw her in person, all I said was,

this girl's got Craters on her face that would

make the surface of the moon jealous It's showing

like four foot nine. I mean, he's a very sort

of lupa. Yeah, it's a very very He looks like

that's an insult of the lupus bomb. Okay, he's

like Are they taking him to Isengard? Yeah Don't

even get that started I'm trying to see here.

There's a picture Floating around somewhere on

Facebook of when me Sean and P y 'all met at

BotCon 2011 It was on your Twitter. Yeah, I can't

go back that far Nah It wasn't that bad. I mean

he's not he's I mean, I I mean he's not that

bad of a guy I'll say that right now. He's not

that bad of a guy but he doesn't think too much

and his biggest problem is that everybody feeds

his delusion and that's one of the problems that

I have with the show not necessarily Sean in

general everybody who is on this show oh here's

the picture um god I was fuck I was super skinny

in this I was really sick in these pictures here

but um uh I mean Everybody that is on these shows.

It's going to feed a delusion that it's good.

It's okay what they're doing and and Sean is

definitely one of those kind of people that will

feed off of this and there are people that are

going around now that are sitting there making

Sean into some kind of a celebrity when You got

mental issues. I mean he was on TV. That's that's

That's better than anything that we've ever done.

I mean, but the way his mind structure works

is that he's gonna take this and everybody's

gonna be feeding his ego and he's gonna think

that his problem is okay. And he's just gonna

leave it alone and he's never gonna get help.

Yep. You see, the bad thing is most of the viewers...

Like even with like Paul and and me and Kevin

a lot of our viewers are younger audience, you

know 12 13 14 year old kids and it's like they

look up They look up to the man and it's like

there's a lot of kids out there Paul that look

up to you. Oh I want to be like you when I grow

up and you know I've heard him say it and they

said it to me and then I've seen Kevin, you know,

they've said it to all of us. It's like Do you

really want to be like that? It's like if they

really knew who that guy was like in his real

life It's like you're just sad and alone with

your toys in your room. It's like really what

kind of life is really that I'm not saying that

we're all that way but The way they came off

on the show. It's like, you know, his apartment

is just so full of toys and he's just pathetic

and alone. It's like, you know, pick your toys

over a girl. At least he had his girlfriend on

the show. Howie didn't even have that. Well,

yeah, it's like, you know, what kind of life

does Howie lead? He has no money for anything

because he blows it all on posters and stuff.

And then he sleeps on the couch. It's like there

comes a point in your life where it's just like,

really, is this what I became? You know, is this

what it's become? Yeah. I live in, yeah, I live

in complete crap you know it's like there's nothing

in his mind that makes him wake up out of that

one day you just like okay I'm done you know

I want to see my rug again you know or be able

to have money to pay my bills because did they

say that how he was actually taking money from

his necessities to buy posters and stuff Yeah,

he had no money. He had he had a job yet They

said he worked at a radio station and he did

something else as well. So I mean he was working

Yeah, he's a musician and he worked You know,

I think I think he said he was a DJ or something

Yeah, yeah, so he obviously he makes enough money

to afford that house But he sing it all on crap

Yes, and they weren't even really cool movie

posters. They were kind of like they look like

reap reproductions and stuff I mean well, but

like the poster collection was that it was the

not not a cult, but it was like the weird Type

of you know it was this you know weird culture

culture type of deal It wasn't like if these

horror movies and stuff yeah, I mean yeah, I

mean it wasn't like he had an original Scarface

posters, you know something like that or an original

Terminator 2 poster, you know, whatever else

or right original Gone with the Wind poster.

It was more so dedicated to the culture of being

weird But is there a big I I don't see a big

thing for that. I mean if There's you're not

in it. Well, no, I know but I don't see a whole

big fan base for weird macabre Poster you'd be

surprised. Yeah, you would Guess you would have

to find you know like if one of us was like okay

I'm gonna give away a transformer you have all

kinds of people all over you You know because

there's a big base for that. There's a big difference

also You're talking you're talking a franchise

that you know has been around for 25 years has

seen Several different series several different

movies. I mean It's very prevalent in in today's

society that kind of stuff is underground For

a reason. Like the girl that collected Barbies.

I mean, is there a whole lot of Barbies on the

market that people collect them? Yes. Oh, yes.

Barbies are bigger than Transformers, dude. Don't

even, don't even. We're gonna have people commenting

all over this episode, oh my god, I can't believe

Bob didn't think Barbies was big. Barbies been

around longer than Transformers and it's still

going strong. I understand that, but it's like,

at least Transformers you can play with them

and transform them. Barbies you can... Take the

clothes off and put new clothes on them. But

the thing is, Bob, we're all men. Barbie is for

girls and women. Not G .I. Joe, same thing. I

mean, there is only one guy that I know that

kind of collects girl -themed toys. Pixel Band?

Oh, wait. What? No, nothing. What'd you say?

I didn't say anything. Brody, what? I can go

back to the editing and find out. Bro? But you

know, there's only one person I know that that

goes towards that kind of culture But it's like,

you know, we're into the Transformers Thundercats

work The four of us are more so into the boys

stuff and not into the girls stuff So that means

we wouldn't really know that much about like

Monster High Monster High is getting a huge friggin

push now Monster High was one of the biggest

selling things at San Diego Comic Con this past

year And my daughter collects those, so I know

something about Monster High now. Well, I'm not

saying you don't, but I'm saying, like, with...

We are not girl toy collectors. We are not girl

themed toy collectors. I know you buy them for

your daughter and all that stuff, but... Put

it this way. The highest selling... Well, I don't

even say selling. But the biggest Transformer

that commands the most amount of money... Is

probably like say Fort Max that could that can

fetch you a thousand bucks If you're if you're

real insane, you might be able to get two thousand

Barbie Barbie gets like four thousand dollars.

Mm -hmm Yeah, I mean it's I think what they're

trying to say Bob is we're looking at this from

our Collecting niche and from from our perspective

Transformers is a huge collecting thing but for

the world of toy collectors in general, it's

not We're in a small corner The only in his collection

is the whole occult and macabre and weird type

of stuff that is a whole subculture think of

that as I hate to put it this way, but it's only

because I've been watching a lot of Law and Order

SVU. Think of it as an underground sex club.

That's what the weird type of subculture and

geek culture is. You're not going to see weird

type of horror stuff promoted on You know storage,

you know ads for storage wars or ads for this

or ads for that It's an underground type of thing

and that's probably why we don't really get it.

So it's like this show oddities It's like, you

know, there's a niche that people want to buy,

you know Right, you know pickled pig, you know,

it's like right. Yeah, I guess there's a niche

out there for it and how we made close to like

What, $5 ,000? Yeah, he made $5 ,500 out of the

stuff he did sell. And on flip side, Sean made

$500 and sold more stuff. Yeah, but he sold Green

Lantern, like stuff you can go out to Walmart

and buy. Well, yeah, that's the whole thing.

Right, that was what Sean's problem was. Most

of the stuff that was taking over his apartment

was the stuff that he either already reviewed,

has yet to review. It wasn't his collecting habits,

it was his work stuff that was getting in the

way. But the show didn't really portray it that

way. They didn't. They portrayed all the stuff

in Sean's apartment as his collection, even the

stuff that was strewn everywhere. No, that's

not what it was. For me watching this week's

episode of Collection Revention, there's a line.

As Paul already said, Sean has his stuff that's

on his shelves, stuff that's in his display cases,

that's his collection. Everything else that's

strewn about that apartment, that's his work

crap. Yeah, and he didn't try to sell his G1

Soundwave robot. And and again the other thing

why that happened was the difference was the

difference between this week's episode last week's

episode is David was in debt he needed that twelve

thousand there's you know twelve hundred thirteen

hundred he needed that money versus sean the

reason why sean wanted to or or was going to

decrease his clutter was so that if you get some

to you know bad girl that i could move in it

seems we've uh... you know he he took that money

and i guarantee you are about something else

with it he didn't pay his parents back you know

i i don't know if you're a bit you know we came

off on the show Told you Bob. I saw it. I still

can't find the link. I saw it either on Facebook

or Twitter The day after that I watched that

show That David had sold most of his stuff and

is trying to fund a movie about this stuff about

hoarding your collection Something like that

And I honestly don't even know what I think it's

just like the life of a transformer collector

or something. I don't know He's fun he funded

it though. I mean, so yeah, he ended up selling

most of his stuff. Yeah, but I guarantee He probably

did at that point no way So he seems selfish

enough that you know mom and dad I need some

money for my rent and then goes out and spends

$500 on toys If you had five hundred dollars,

you should have paid your rent. There's an underlying

issue with all these people There's common denominator.

They are screwed in the head There's something

that they don't understand reality bills come

before anything else collecting whatever, you

know But Sean did have that problem didn't he

go bankrupt or something? He didn't go bankrupt.

I mean that's He was in bad financial, you know,

dire straits for a while. Not to get in his personal

life, but you know, it's like when you're on

that verge and it's like, okay, I have $500.

Do I pay my car or do I go out and buy the new

ratchet robot? You know, it's like, come on,

really? It's like, in my mind, I pay my car.

I need my car to get back and forth to work and

get to the grocery store. Let me play devil's

advocate with you on that. You pay that money

to buy your ratchet robot and you're going to

do a video of that that you hope will make you

money. As his job, as a business, you invest

money and you put it back in there and hopefully

you break even. or come on ahead on it. That's

what Sean does. You've done reviews, Paul, and

I'm not hacking on you, but you've done reviews

that got 2, 3 ,000 views. You've also done videos

that got 40, 50, hundreds of thousands. It's

like you never know what people are going to

watch. So do you take the risk? I pretty much

have an idea. I mean, after you do this for so

long, you know, I can tell you, you know, my

transformer reviews. Get you know a lot of views

if I do a review of a thundercat. That's not

going to be that much, but there's a A edgy well

not educated guess, but there is a a certain

degree of Calculated risk I suppose in doing

that video You know that it's not going to get

a lot of views, but you also, at this point in

time, you're getting enough views on your other

stuff that it offsets what you do. Well, see,

and just recently, you had to get your brakes

and all that stuff done. You spend $900, whatever

it was, but you had money to pay for it. You

weren't asking people, oh, I really need my brakes

fixed in my car. Can I borrow whatever? And then

going out and spending... I might be doing that

the next couple months. But you weren't spending

money on the new NECA Predator figures that are

out instead of paying for your breaks. You know

what I mean? You actually will pay your bills

before you'll go out and spend that money on

something else. You have responsibility. Yeah,

that's just because I understand that. These

people don't have it. And that's the thing of

the show. It almost glorifies collecting. It's

like, you know, these kids, you know, they...

I want to say it glorifies collecting. It glorifies

the illness. All this cool stuff. But again,

that's not what they talk about in the show,

though. That's going off on a different tangent.

That's not brought up on the show, though. I

mean, if that was something that they specifically

brought up, like with Sean... then then you could

then you can make that argument but at this point

time right now it's just all I mean that that's

the biggest problem with that and that's what's

one of the things that I was thinking about before

even doing this episode we are all of us are

going into this unable to separate what we see

as as just TV viewers and what we see as people

who actually know who Sean Long is Yeah. That's

a big problem that this episode is really gonna

have, because we're already putting a bias towards

it. Now, there are some things that you can sit

there and watch and be like, you know, this whole

thing was staged. I mean, you don't have to be,

you know, a Sean Long knower to know that a lot

of that stuff seemed like it was staged, or at

least on the surface appeared that way. But do

you think he was really honestly surprised once

he walked in like he had no clue they were coming

He knew ahead of time He knew about it before

comic -con and and they shot it before comic

-con. It's but again, even the guy But you got

to put it up there For I mean, I'm sure I'm sure

that I know now with the now with how we that

was a little bit different I think he agreed

to it, but I don't think he fully understood

what he was agreeing to Yeah, he didn't know

what he was getting into right he had he had

a different I mean you can see that there was

different motives going into this you know he

didn't see what he was being thrown you know

I mean he didn't see he was being thrown to the

walls Sean didn't have that panic attack he didn't

go through all that as emotions oh you can't

touch my stuff and again because they did I mean

he'd been trying to sell I mean but again see

that's a problem we know this shit about Sean

he'd been trying to he's been trying to sell

this extra crap for months now So I mean again,

it's hard for us to sit there and and watch this

through you know Fair eyes on the whole thing

God God help us if we if Sean long ever murder

somebody and one of us gets picked to be on the

jury I Mean there's no way that we can be fair

and honest or well I mean we can be honest, but

there's no way that we can be fair and objective

It's gonna be the longest night in his life.

Go away So we'll have to see what happens in

the next episode of collection intervention as

far as where they're going I will say overall

outside of the issues I have with the show I

Like seeing what people have and is as much as

the next person does but it I like like one of

the reasons why I liked this episode this week

was that how we did have a out there, it wasn't

just toy, it isn't, I guess my whole thing of

oh, rename the show to Toy Hoarder, I guess you

really can't do that, because it covers, it's

covered comic books, it's covered toys, it's

covered, you know, the weird kind of culture

thing, so I guess, I just wish there was more

intervention to it than just staged ambushes.

Yeah, I mean, that's what it is, it seems like

a lot of staged ambush. Yeah, yeah So we're gonna

go to some some ads and commercial breaks and

all that fun stuff and we'll come back to close

the show after this You can now hear the Geekcast

right? You know how we talk about doing a podcast?

Glad some ideas run past you. Yeah, what do you

got? I thought we should base it on comics. Well,

there's thousands of podcasts about comics. You

kind of want to narrow it down a bit. Well, what

about Star Wars? Still, there's a ton of those

out there. What else you got? We could always

do G .I. Joe comics. There's still a ton of those

out there. What about the 80s franchises? There's

already a few of those as well. Then let's forget

about comics. Let's focus on toys and action

figures. Dude, then we're back to thousands of

podcasts. Well, is anyone covering all those

things I mentioned in one podcast? No one would

be crazy enough to do that. Then that's what

we'll do. Be serious. Yep. Come and listen to

you go, another week of Team Bottomless Hour

where we talked about an episode of Collection

Intervention. Next week there will be an all

-new Collection Intervention and an all -new

Toy Hunter. What? Toy Hunter, oh boy, yay. Sorry.

Okay, outside of the... and again, as I said

in this episode about collection intervention,

the only reason why I watch Toy Hunter at this

point is just to see where he goes and see what

kind of stuff he gets or what kind of collections

he goes to see. As far as his inaccuracies when

it comes to certain facts, yeah, it kind of pisses

me off at the time when I'm watching it, but

at the same time, it's not the end of the world.

He likes dark seed One thing one thing that I

would like to say in as much as as much as we

have trashed trashed Sean I thought he did a

very nice thing by donating a lot of toys to

kids Whatever whatever he didn't sell however

much it was whatever he donated him to kids Which

I think is a very nice thing to do. Yeah So all

right, so that's it for this week's team bottomless

variety hour. I am TF2 and Mike with hi. I'm

Paul Optobotomist Kevin Darth EVS And it's me

Bob Gilmer slimeblower something or other I think

part of this episode turned into a What About
