TeamBotimus Variety Hour
Marvel vs. DC Film Universes and Transformers Masterpiece Figures

About this Episode
This is Starscream, and you are watching Optimus!
Yes, you are! No wonder it's a supermoon tomorrow.
I turned the camera on before I got on the Skype.
I pre -planned. Wow. He's learning. You can be,
like, professional. I know. Isn't that scary?
Shut up. Yeah, yeah ain't that the truth well
no he was no yeah, I used to use a different
Yeah, he was using a different setup back then
so um Yes, yes, yes Essentially Avengers is Really
the only I'm gonna say about it is Avengers is
fucking awesome DC take a fucking note a live
-action superhero team -up movie can happen and
done, right? They are actually planning on doing
that What after after after the Dark Knight rises
they're gonna reboot the Batman franchise They're
all and and so with the Superman bat Reboot and
they're gonna throw some others in and eventually
they want to work it into the Justice League
like they did with with the Avengers But see
the thing is like we have all of okay Superman
2006 blah Nobody gives a shit about Brandon Ralph.
I like that movie And there's something wrong
with you if you like a stalker Superman. How
is he a stalker? He stalks the hell out of that
chick. That's what Clark Cannon, that's what
he always did. I mean, let's see, let's watch
the very first movie when, you know, he meets
her and then she's walking out and he runs after
her. At least Christopher Reeve's performance
wasn't all emo and brooding. Anyway, the problem
that I have between, like okay Marvel did it
right. Granted they couldn't do anything with
X -Men or Spider -Man because that's Fox and
Sony on those. But with all of their other properties
they built up a universe of movies where as DC
just releases, oh hey here's, Batman Begins in
2005. I'm not saying these movies are bad. Here's
Batman Begins in 2005. Here's Superman Returns
in 2006, which was bad. Here's Dark Knight in
2008. Here's Dark Knight Rises in 2012. If they
actually, you know, thought about creating a
universe and actually thought about leading up
to Justice League, they wouldn't need so many
fucking reboots. Here's Green Lantern. Sorry,
Blue. I honestly don't think that DC went into
it wanting to do a huge movie. So with Iron Man,
with Thor, with all the movies, there was the
intent from the very beginning to do an adventure
movie. And they're like, oh, hey, we can take
all these other movies or all these other characters
and we can give them their own individual movies.
That's a good idea. Well, right, but I mean,
okay, but look at it though, you know, you had
Superman returns was a good movie. No, it wasn't.
Yes, it was. No, it wasn't. It was. I thought
it was. Geekcast Radio Network, which produces
this fucking show, does not agree with Bob or
Paul on the fact that Superman Returns was a
good fucking movie because it wasn't a good fucking
movie. Great Lex Luthor. I thought it was a wonderful
movie. I thought Brandon roth was a really good
superman. I don't know. I don't know what you're
complaining about I thought I thought he I thought
he was just like Christopher Reeves I I agree
Oh, what was that? Say about Brandon roth Dylan
dog uh... you know what the marvel movies is
yes they set out to make an avengers movie but
everyone wanted everyone is one of dc for years
to make a justice league movie and granted years
ago they couldn't do it is another technology
but since two thousand five they could have been
building up to it they could have you know spent
from two thousand five to now building up to
a justice league movie they could have actually
done a decent green lantern movie and not put
fucking van wilder in it you know They could
have I haven't seen that movie yet, so I don't
even know it's that's all of them I'm gonna go
ahead and spoil it for you right now. The villain
is the fucking yellow fear monster Well, it's
yeah, I know the villain is I know the villain
well the villain is supposed to be parallax But
they screwed up Wait a second some Mariah baby
on Twitter just told me that there's another
scene at the end of Avengers pass. Yes, there
is There's eight through all of them. Yes, the
second one is just for comedy that you didn't
miss much. What was it? You remember how? Tony
was saying that that you know after all the big
battle was done that they need to go to that
Little restaurant that was like two blocks away
That's all it was, was them sitting there in
that restaurant eating right after the battle.
That's all it was. No talking, no nothing. Just
them hanging out. Just them hanging out. At Denny's
at 2 a .m. What else are you going to do at Denny's
or, you know, at 2 a .m. but go to Denny's? Go
to Denny's, yeah. Like, hey, what do you want
to do? It's 2 a .m. Let's go to Denny's. Let's
go to Denison. Let's have chocolate syrup and
whipped cream and everything else on our pancakes.
Have you seen those fucking commercials now?
They're like... Those are pretty good. I mean,
it's kind of... No, I mean, it looks great, but
I just find it funny that commercial is so funny.
It's like a cholesterol person's worst nightmare.
It's for drunk people to, you know, be able to
drive home after the hangover... Well, exactly.
...kicks in. Exactly. The hangover part three.
Yeah. Or the stoners, when they get the munchies.
Man I could kill for some pancakes right now
Let's find out let's let's see what we can throw
on a pancake. How about some Vasco sauce and
some mayonnaise and some Yeah bacon. Oh gotta
have bacon mustard mustard and maybe some potato
skins. I don't know Yeah, getting back to the
DC vs. Marvel film universe thing, all I'm saying
is, instead of DC doing a bunch of... Okay, granted,
Batman needed a reboot. It needed something new
compared to the original movies that they released.
It did need a reboot. No, no, no, no. What? Compared
to the last two... Well, not even the last two.
The last one, yes. But... Well, that's what I'm
saying. Batman Returns and Batman Forever are
not bad movies. No, they're not. The last one
was awful, though. That one killed everything.
All right. All right. Let me get this out, damn
it. 89 was good. It has camp in it, but it's
good. Returns, I liked it. I actually saw that
in the theater. Forever, it has Chase Meridi
and Nicole Kidman. That's all that needs to be
said about that. And then. Batman and Robin,
the only decent thing about that was Alicia Silverstone
in the Batsuit. Other than that, nothing good
came out of that movie. Although, I did like
Chris O'Donnell as Robin. When you look at all
these Batman movies, I really thought that Uma
Thurman did a good job as Poison Ivy. I think
the script and the story behind it was absolutely
terrible. I even thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger
did a pretty good job as Mr. Freeze. He just
played, you know, again, the script was bad.
Everybody blames What's -His -Face for such a
terrible movie. And while, yes, I do agree with
it, it's a lot of the writing. I mean, the way
that they wrote Mr. Freeze to be was really kind
of stupid. I mean, and granted, Mr. Freeze is,
for me, a very... Batman animated series character
when I think of when I think of mr. Freeze, I
immediately think of that character Well, that's
because that's because that was the first time
that anything was ever done with mr. Freeze besides
being a diamond thief or a jewel thief in the
comics and in the old 66 TV series Paul Dini
and burst em were the first people to actually
give him a backstory. Well, yeah It's a one,
you know, and I, you know, I think that they
really kind of screwed the pooch on the writing
of said character. And, you know, one of my favorite
characters of all time, Bane, was a complete
moron in it. So, I mean, I think there were good
elements. to it uh right but my point here is
though you're not allowed to have a point by
the way shut the hell up with this fucking show
i got i got a point i got mommy mommy dad shut
up bob don't even don't even go there shut up
bob don't even go there uh my point here is is
though yes i agree batman did need a reboot after
those original films. It did need a new direction,
a different direction to bring it into the 2005
audience and beyond. Honestly, I don't see much
of a difference between the Dark Knight, the
new incarnation of Batman and what Tim Burton
was trying to do. I think they should have left
it to Keithan and just called it good. Stop it,
Bob! Keithan should have come back to be Batman.
I don't even know. I mean, I don't even think
he actually screwed that name up, but I'm just
gonna preemptively do it for him. I mean, those
guys should have came back. You know what? I
actually remember reading somewhere that Jack
Nicholson was actually kind of pissed off that
they didn't ask him to come back to do the Joker.
Did you hear about that? Yeah, he was actually
kind of annoyed about it because he's like, well,
I'm the Joker. And everybody knows how Nicholson
is. I mean, he's kind of a cocky, arrogant, smug
prick anyhow. Well, he should be cocky, arrogant,
and smug about fucking Charlie Sheen taking over
his role for anger management. That's what he
should be fucking pissed about, because Charlie
Sheen's gonna torture that fucking role. Well,
it's not a... I don't think it's necessarily
based off of that. It is. It's the anger management
television series is based off of the film and
Charlie Sheen will be playing the character that
Jack Nicholson played in the movie Well, that
just seems really dumb it is so anyway my whole
point here is my whole point here is and I'll
shut up after this my whole point here is and
then When they started the Batman movies, when
they rebooted it with Begins... Go ahead. You're
an asshole. Batman! You're a Class A asshole!
That's not nice. My whole point here is they
could have done something more with Begins and
told, like, they could have done the little snippets
that Marvel does at the end of the movies and
stuff like that leading up to, like, hey, you
know, okay, the... In begins, the mansion gets
destroyed, so they have to work out of a new
bunker in Dark Knight. They could have had something
that Batman was planning to create or bring together
the Justice League or something like that, and
throughout all of these movies that DC has had
since then, they could have been leading up to
something like Marvel did. That's what I'm saying.
Marvel did it right in creating a universe to
create their team -up movie. They had Spider
-Man in the DVD for X -Men, at the end. Well
that's because Spider -Man and X -Men are both
owned by Sony and Fox. Spider -Man is owned by
Sony and X -Men is owned by Fox, so... Stop being
such a whiny baby. I'm not, why don't you shut
the... Did you just like bleep yourself? Yes,
I'm talking so you can hear every other word.
He's buffering. It's called a Neuralizer. It's
a gift from some friends from out of town. What
the fuck was that? Neuralizer. What do you think?
Neuralizer. Stop. That's way too loud. Sorry.
Yay, thunderstorm moving in. Tornado alley, anyone?
No. It's rare if the tornado hits by me. Too
many mountains in the way. That would be that
would be yeah, that would be weird that'd be
like Tell her that you like it's happened It's
happened last year last year one touchdown in
North Philly not not far from where we have one
of our meetups I was gonna say that it'd probably
be about as rare as LA getting snow But it doesn't
sound like it's all that rare, to be honest.
Where big media are crashing into your home and
checking your whole house. Maybe. Maybe. Well,
you do live in Kansas. That happens to also be
Superman returning. Did you hear about that,
Paul? What, the... That day that your whole house
shook and you thought it was an earthquake? Yeah,
it was... That happened the day before his house
shook. Yeah. That happened in Northern California.
Oh, I thought it was your, um, whatever. Nevermind
then. Supermoon. Yeah, it was more north of me,
so I wasn't too worried about it. But yeah, it,
like, hit with, like, the force of, like, a whole
bunch of TNT or something. You shouldn't want
to look to see if there was a Green Lantern in
it, and you could've got the ring. Maybe. Well,
I'm telling you, I think it was Superman returning.
As a baby, or was he, you know... No, no, he
returned. He was returning. Meaning he's already
been here. Okay. He was coming back as a naked
adult. Paul? My kids say it was Armageddon, but
it failed. What was Armageddon? A meteor. Apparently,
according to my wife's students, the meteor that
hit was Armageddon, but it failed. Oh, so it's
an asteroid. Yay! Yeah. That's better than a
hemorrhoid. Yeah. Well... That could just be
one of those, that could be one of those early
asteroids before that big one that's supposed
to hit us later this year or something. What's
it supposed to be later this year? I don't remember
if it's later this year. Yeah, sometime in like
November or something. The Mayans. That's funny.
That's it, the Mayans. You know, everybody's
like, oh no, Dick Clark's dead, that means there's
not going to be any New Year, so he had, the
Mayans had it right. We're not going to have
a New Year, so... Cuz remember, I have to turn
31st, sweetheart. Oh, no, we have to have children
before it's the end of the world. That has to
happen. Well, Snooki's baby is due on the 21st
of December, so... Stop it! It's Snooki. You
know what, I'm going on the record. Are you recording
this, Mike? Will you stop fucking asking me that
of course I'm recording this last 15 fucking
minutes going on record to saying that when Mike
gets a girlfriend That's when the world will
end As long as I do it before the hobbit comes
out of the world ends before the hobbit Wow,
did you guys hear that? He's gonna do a hobbit
that was a big one do it with a hobbit They're
taking that they're taking the harvest isengard.
Oh, no here we go Bot con robots What about back
on what happened jazz jazz jazz happened Just
got repainted his long arm. There is gonna be
that. Jazzbot shot. Is there gonna be a Jazzbot
shot? Yes sir. I'm excited because I saw a Wheeljack
Creo or Creon. And it looked like the video game
Soundwave is gonna have little buddies to play
with. He's gonna have... his little tapes or
something. Yeah. What are they like going to
be like legion class or something like that that
can actually inside his chest? They're smaller
and they turn into CDs and somehow that they
can be deployed from him. And when they're deployed,
they automatically transform is how the gimmick
works. Oh, I like that idea. That can be that
can be interesting. That could work. That could
be very interesting. So, is there a particular
place you want to start TF2 on, Mike? He stopped
talking. Uh, yeah. Essentially, yes. You made
mommy cry. Apparently I did. Shut the fuck up,
Bob. Let me see. Uh, these were the... Let's
see. Shut the hell up. Poly. Yeah. I know you
hate being called Polly. Did you see the masterpiece
Transformers Prime? Optimus? Yeah. Yeah, what
do you think of it? Well, I would just like to
say that if you know everybody Everybody that
knows me knows that I already knew that this
was coming out But there were some questions.
I knew I knew that it was coming out. I knew
it was coming out with the trailer I didn't know
if it was gonna come with Spike or The Matrix.
So I'm happy to see that those are both included
in it and from everything that everybody is saying
right now, it's going to have the bigger smokestacks.
Which that was another big question mark that
people were like, I don't know if I want to get
it because it might not have the big smokestacks,
blah blah blah. it apparently is going to have
the bigger smokestack so that really does impress
me and the colors honestly don't look that much
different than the uh the actual takara one so
the only difference is isn't isn't the hasbro
one just plastic no die cast there's i i i honestly
there's not even die casting the takara one it's
really his feet are not It's Peter Dykes and
that's it. So Well, whoa, I didn't know Spike's
last name was Witwicky. Yes, you did not know
that. Are you serious? I totally didn't know
that. What the fuck is wrong with you? That's
not something that they that they made up for
the movies Well, there goes to show I pay attention
They mentioned his name Witwicky in the original
cartoon come on now Yeah, they did the one that
I can think of is when uh Carly's there And Sparkplug
comes back and Carly refers to him like, welcome
home, Mr. Witwicky. Yep. And I think they even
say it in the More Than Meets the Eye three -parter
when they introduce themselves. I'm Sparkplug
Witwicky and this is my son, Spike. I think they
even say that in the very first episode. Maybe
Bob needs to go back and watch G1. Hey, Bob,
do you have Netflix? I do not. Well, you should
get it. Cuz I don't have a credit card. So why
would I how would I get Netflix? Oh man? You
know the whole debt -free thing I don't want
to get back in there $8 .23 a month is going
to it really is a good deal i know but that's
how it starts you know you know you get one hooker
next you know you got five and then you got a
bunch of dead ones in your living room and then
you don't know what to do with them and yeah
it's it's that's all from there maybe you shouldn't
get you know five hookers done well i know but
you get one netflix next thing you know you're
buying like games and well you get one netflix
and next thing you know you have a whole house
of prostitutes What? A whole burlesque house
of prostitutes. A whole burlesque house of prostitutes.
And it all started because of Netflix. Yeah,
exactly. Sons of bitches. Sons of bitches. But
anyhow, geez lord, Mike, what the hell did you
do? There's a million different things here that
you just posted. They're all the pictures for
BotCon. Yeah. So let me, let me take a look.
Let me go through some of these pictures. Soundwave,
yeah, the Soundwave is a Voyager class. Which,
um... For the fall of Cybertron, Tony. For the
fall of Cybertron. Which, you know, I'm kind
of on the fence about that, because... Every
other, you know, video game figure, except for
this one, as far as I know of, is just deluxe
size. Well, what are they having him transform
into? I don't understand what his, like, no head...
Is he supposed to be, like, in the cartoon? Like
the lamp thing? No. I don't get what he is. The
vehicle he was from the game. I know, but if
you look in between, is it just like the mid
-transformation of him? No. It's like right underneath
Optimus as you scroll down on that first page.
Alright, let me see. It's like you see the trailer
of Optimus and then you see Optimus and it's
right underneath that. Right. Right, his vehicle
mode is the same as it was in War for Cybertron
and Follow Cybertron. It's the same vehicle.
I understand that. It's just a front view, so
it looks... Yeah. It's like him leaning at an
angle with no head. No, that's... Well, in vehicle
mode, you're not supposed to see a head unless
you're scared. No, no, no. He's not in vehicle
mode. Okay, okay, okay. Alright, I got it. Bob?
Image address. Here, Bob, look at this one. Which
image number are you looking at? Um, it is number,
uh, 67 of 139. Okay. That's what I needed to
know. 67 of 139. Alright. Let me skip ahead here.
Oh, boy. Podcasting at its finest, ladies and
gentlemen. It is. It's right before the, the
crap it gets. Okay. I see, I see exactly what
he's talking about now. And, and you're right.
It does kind of look like it's supposed to resemble,
uh, The G1 where he like transformed into that
weird kind of thing. Yeah, it's like a light
pole kind of looking thing. I mean, I see exactly
what he's talking about. I have honestly no idea
why that. Maybe it's just... Like mid -transformation?
Maybe, but I mean, at Monokan they don't do that.
They show the two different modes, but this might...
I honestly don't know why they would do this
unless this is some kind of an official mode.
I mean, I know the people that put the displays
are pretty retarded, but... I don't think they're
that retarded. Do you see what I mean, Mike,
now? No, you'll have to send me the link to the
actual picture. Just go to picture number 67.
OK, yeah, it's a bottom shot. No, it's not. Yes,
it is. It's this one, Mikey. OK, see, now how
hard was that? Damn it. Oh, lord. No, it's not
that one. It just did the whole thing. Christ
almighty. I'm not even looking. I wouldn't if
I were you. I like that Soundwave is a Voyager
class now for War for Cybertron. Are they gonna
do them all? Yeah, I mean, I don't understand
it because they're all deluxes except for this
one. Well, I think the reason why I've gravitated
more towards Voyager class at this point is because
they've shrunk the deluxe class so far down I
mean, they're like we need to save money. We
need to save the environment We need to make
our toys smaller and more intricate and whatever
the other the fuck and It's just I don't think
it has anything to do with saving the environment
dipshit It was saving money their money. Yeah
Who's the guy that's like purple and gold? That
is Kickback. Yeah. That's supposed to be the
Insecticon Kickback. Oh, okay. Okay, okay. Which,
it's cool. I'm happy to see that they're doing
that because for the longest time, everyone's
like, Hasbro, give us what we want so that we
don't have to get it from third -party things.
And now we're getting an official Insecticon,
which I'm thrilled about. Mean he's kind of weird
looking But I mean, you know, I really like his
head his head is very his head really kind of
looks like it's a reuse of the via con and Like
in like kickbacks antennas on the side Yeah,
you know kind of strange okay, so there's so
there's that what else do we have? There is the
rust -and -piece cliff jumper Yeah What it looks?
Dude somebody just posted a review of the um
Mitch Santana just posted That's the part like
how it's all purple yeah, I can't stand that
I don't like the clip jumper mold I definitely
don't like the Hasbro version of it. Well, it's
the same. Not the first edition, the crap RID.
The RID version, yeah. If you watch my video,
I wanted to kill it. I wanted to dropkick it
across the floor. Well, you just kept getting
yelled at by the Rock. Set it on fire. Set it
on fire. I almost did. If my kids weren't there
and the Rock wasn't annoying me the whole time.
You know, the... The funniest thing for me and
some of the SDCC exclusives, it doesn't matter
what company makes them, is the packaging. Like
you take, or if you don't want to take it, but
take last year's Mattel Swamp thing. That packaging
was very cool. Figure, not so much. I think it's
a good figure. It'll deteriorate after time.
Well, it's just like stay puffed in it. Well,
they're not deteriorating They're falling apart
the problem with the well And I honestly I can't
even say that because I don't I don't I mean
nobody's had it for too long so with with um
With the swamp thing at least it's a harder more
Durable rubber if you keep it in one post for
so long then when you move it into a different
pose you're gonna see some kind of a damage to
it. I've already seen that action on the elbows
of mine, but it's not nearly as bad as the clay
face that they made a couple years ago. That
thing is absolutely terrible. It's a cool figure.
It looks great, but it's completely started to
fall apart on mine. So in other words, I should
leave my clay face in the box with Batman like
I've got him. Yeah. I mean, OK, you know. The
way, and this isn't just, and I'm not talking
about mass market toys here. A convention exclusive
should be the best, should be, just like Masterpiece.
Convention exclusives and Masterpiece toys should
be the best versions or best thing you ever have
because it's additional price, it's not regular
price, it's specialized packaging, and it, you
know. It just should be better quality than normal.
It should not have issues like that I mean Paul,
you know you you and I went through a whole thing
with with Ghostbusters and and Stay puffed and
everything else about him yellowing and everything
else. So that's just freaking stupid I like the
packaging for the cliff jumper, but now that
I've seen Mitch Santona's review of the Smurf
jumper version, I actually like the purple version
better, because this one, he doesn't look like,
the robot mode, it doesn't look like from the
pictures, it doesn't look like he's infected
with a whole lot of dark energon except around
his face. I mean, there's bits here and there
on him, but... Hmm. Yeah, he has a tiny little
crack in his windshield and yeah a couple stickers
on his chest Other than that, I mean and on his
leg and a new head sculpt Yeah, I mean I've seen
up the bottom is that when when he did when Paulie
did his and just put the stickers on it You know,
it looked way better than national for it Like
you said if it's a San Diego comic -con, you
think you're gonna get something that you can
only get there I mean anybody that has first
first edition prime care You know first edition
cliff jumper can make one of them themselves
Mm -hmm. It just you want if you're gonna I wonder
what they're gonna charge for that thing, too
Probably outrageous. You know fight up 20 bucks
like optimus was Since Paul's going there I wonder
if he's gonna actually pick it up once he gets
back from doing whatever he's doing Yeah, I don't
know He stepped away for a moment. He had to
feed his fish. Oh lovely. No, I don't know. I
was making it up Anyway going back to like the
exclusive things The like the Toys R Us version
of prime that it's coming out masterpiece. Yeah
when Rodimus was out I only seen it one time
and I went back like in a couple days later and
it was gone and I was the only time I ever seen
it So I wonder if it's gonna be like impossible
to get like in store probably especially where
I live in Kansas I mean we're always the last
to get everything because we're in the middle
of the country I never have problems getting
that stuff actually. Yeah, but you live like
right on the East Coast Yeah, I'm in the middle
of nowhere and by the time it gets here. It's
already It's already like five years old by the
time we actually start seeing stuff It's like
a lot of people had problems finding masterpiece
Grimlock when he hit toy russ i don't want to
sell by my mother's house to have like sixty
of them sitting in there i will say you like
you shut up that it is this boy i'd just now
heard who uh... lady gaga is and she's been out
for her who knows how long known to him good
lord uh... well uh... uh... but anyway this this
for any for i don't think that's the wrong person
anyway Um, but the thing of it is though, like,
uh, uh, buddies of mine that do another podcast,
Dave and Deval over at toyworldorder .com, they
were asking about the differences between the,
uh, Hasbro masterpiece versions and the Takara
versions. The only thing I can think of is, is
the original MP01 had, he was larger size and
he was die cast. No, no, no. The only difference
was the smokestacks. That was it. Well, there's
two different Hasbro releases. The original one
came out was perfectly fine, it had long smoke
stacks, looked good. Then Hasbro released a 20th
anniversary one that had a horrible paint job,
and it had shortened smoke stacks, and then it
came with a base that was like, I am Optimus
Prime, and it wasn't even Cullen's voice. I got
the original release of the Hasbro version. I
got it from Walmart way back when when it first
came out and he had the short smoke stacks and
he had the They gave him the battle damage paint
job. That's the other that's the other alternate
one Yeah, well, I didn't yeah cuz when I had
didn't have the base you yeah the other one the
other one that you know Hasbro came out with
was the one that had the shortened smoke stacks
and had battle damage which And it was essentially
identical to the Takara one that came out. Just
had the battle fan. My question here is, the
Takara ones use diecast. The MP01 from Takara
has die, it's diecast metal. Do you want me to
pick up my MP01 and smack you over the head with
it? Because it's the Hasbro version and it's
almost all diecast. Okay, well that's what I
was asking because I thought the only difference
is... between any Hasbro release of a Takara
masterpiece is usually the paint job. That's
it. Sometimes, like, accessories are different.
The Grimlock figure is identical. It's got the
same amount of die cast, all that stuff. It's
all the same. I just wasn't sure, because I know
how Takara loves to use the die cast metal, and
Hasbro prefers crappy plastics. I think the MP
Grimlock... From from hasbro actually has a better
paint job than the takara one. Yeah, it's it's
more well They went for two different aesthetics,
you know one went for an animated aesthetic,
you know animated accurate color scheme Which
I think is what hasbro did and then the takara
one went for more of a toy the toy aesthetic
right you know which you know I mean it depends
on what you know what what you're actually into
you know the other thing is like I said you know
the other minor differences are the accessories
the uh the Hasbro one didn't come with for Grimlock
it didn't come with the tray or the apron I don't
think no it came with the crown it came with
the crown for him you know for King Grimlock
but um you know uh I'm trying to think Don't
think I'm trying to think about the Starscream
the original Takara release of Starscream I don't
know if that came with dr. Arkaville or if that
was something that was added for the Hasbro.
I Don't remember all I know is that the Hasbro
one? Had the more g1 paint job plus had the battle
damage Right and it didn't have stickers of the
car one had stickers which I was like why? Right
and it had that ugly gray color. Yeah. Yeah,
so I mean In terms of mold, they're identical
molds, Mike. Okay. I just wasn't sure because
I always thought that the Takara versions, as
I said, I always thought Takara used the die
cast, but Hasbro didn't. I thought that's outside
of the accessory differences. I always thought
that was the difference between the two versions.
And that's why Hasbro was able to offer it at
a lower price. They're also I mean you also have
to understand that has was able to at a lower
price because these are Much more mass -made
items than the Takara ones You know say Takara
makes a thousand Master pleat masterpiece Optimus
Prime figures Hasbro gets it and they can now
make ten thousand so just by the sheer number
that's going to reduce costs In you know just
overall. I mean people are buying more so you
get more of a discount you know which you know
when you look at like for example the The Starscream
that was a Hasbro the Hasbro release of it. That
was a Walmart exclusive So I mean well at least
in the United States. It was a Hasbro exclusive
Yeah, so you get you know has or you know Hasbro
going to Walmart and Walmart being like yeah
We'll order and you know 50 ,000 of them As opposed
to to car who tries to sell their ugly one that
doesn't even start scream, you know They you
know might make ten thousand of them or something.
I don't know. Yeah, but okay Okay, now let me
ask you guys this if none of you had a masterpiece
prime already Like like I don't I don't I don't
have any masterpiece stuff. I'd wait for the
Hasbro one of mp10 Okay, so you would rather
have You would rather have the upcoming MP10
versus the MP01. MP10 is a far better looking
and much more accurate looking representation
of Optimus Prime to the cartoons than MP01. MP01
was impressive because it was all diecast. Well,
not all diecast, but 75 % diecast. And it was
big. It was massive. Right and you know I mean
it was a very impressive piece, but then when
you transformed it into his truck mode his truck
looked horrible At least you know with MP MP
10 yes, it's a little bit smaller But that's
you know Takara has already come on said that
that's gonna be the new standard size form that
they're doing Which is fine because I mean they're
big already I mean I thought they were a little
bit too big previously, but with with MP 10 you
get everything You get the trailer you get roller
You know you get a little spike you get the matrix
you had to wait for like Because mp01 does not
come with the trailer right you had to wait till
mp04 for that yeah, so you know which it was
even more money, so You know I I would you know
I haven't done my review yet on them because
I've been slacking but with mp tagger really
is it really is the best version of optimus prime
that we've gotten so far and Let me ask you this
it's too expensive I mean he's like $250 and
I don't think it's worth it when you compare
it to the $250 or well not even $250 you pay
less than that for and well when mp01 first came
out it wasn't that much I think it was like less
than 200 bucks, but it came when it came on I
mean that that thing like I said is like 75 percent
diecast and it costs less than what mp10 is You
know who only has like diecast in his feet And
I was like, no, this is not worth it. So the
Hasbro version will probably run you around 100,
maybe 150 bucks. I just hope I can find it. That'll
be the problem. Especially if I live, yeah. From
the Hasbro releases, I saw one release of Grimlock.
I saw one in stores. That was the only time I
saw it. I still have never, to this day, seen
Rodimus Prime. in stores anywhere now other people
have but he never got to my store and that might
that might be because you know i was hearing
some rumors that people were you know scalpers
were coming in there and the stores got wise
to it and wouldn't put them on the shelves they
would hold them in like the back or hold them
underneath the counter and wait for somebody
to come up and ask for them and be like yeah
we have some right here they didn't put them
on the shelves because people like You know,
they would just go in, see him, and scalp him,
you know, buy him, and then run away with him.
Right. Which was retarded, but, you know. Scalpers,
the bane of my existence. I'm telling you. I'm
telling you. I was so, I was so shocked that
I walked into my Toys R Us the other day, and,
uh, what was it, two days ago? Two days ago,
yesterday, something like that? Maybe it was
yesterday. Walked in there, and I found Knockout
and Hot Shot. Now, there wasn't any... Vehicle
but the via cons aren't aren't those being short
-packed. Yeah, there's only one per case So,
I mean that's that's totally understandable that
that one would be the first one gone, but I was
shocked to see knockout and and Hot hot I was
absolutely Just see this is this is another instance
where having a wife that works at Target is helpful
because she's friends with the people who stock
the toys They give me a heads up sometimes when
they're getting stuff in That's the way to do
it my friends. I mean if I didn't have Going
around and going to stores to find this stuff.
That's what I would do Damn straight So what
I got that's how I got ratchet she she kept an
eye out she knew they had him in the store She
brought me one home Well speaking of Ratchet
I guess we could talk about the transformers
prime toys and the fact that at least in my opinion
as a deluxe black or not black arachnia fuck
arachnid arachnid as a deluxe sucks she just
doesn't look good at all to me I think you know
I mean I think as a deluxe I think she'll be
fine because she's supposed to be small I mean
she's like RC size So that should be okay. What
a lot of people are going to complain about is
the fact that she's only got two modes. One of
which is a helicopter, which is kind of annoying
people because her name is Arachnid. They should
have given her the spider alt mode and then maybe
at some point in time do a Voyager triple changer.
But if you're going to do a Deluxe and you're
going to start small, start with the robot mode
and at least start with something where she gets
her namesake from. Mean yeah, that's kind of
and see that's my thinking Why didn't they just
instead of doing a void instead of doing a deluxe
now or whenever? She's gonna be released. I don't
know. I'm not looking at the thing Instead of
doing a deluxe now and only having the two modes
why not? Wait save that money put it into the
Voyager with you know her being a triple changer
That would make more sense to me, and it would
probably sell more It makes more sense to you,
but it doesn't make sense to them because they
want as much stuff out there on the shelves as
possible to be able to sell the stuff. Yeah,
but if you go into a store and you see a toy
that's totally ugly to you, you're not going
to buy it, whether you're, you know, people our
age or whether you're a kid. I mean, you're not,
you know, a kid's not going to go in and say,
oh, mommy, a black helicopter. I want it. You
know what I mean? They're not going to do that
anyhow, because historically speaking, girl characters
do not sell well in poi form at all. That's true.
That's true. What did you guys think of that
Shockwave shocker? I don't even actually know
I don't know if I I mean I heard that it got
confirmed for being because they showed a clip
of it or something What happened was at the Hall
of Fame night or something at the Hall of Fame
night? They showed a tribute clip for Shockwave.
At the end was a snippet from an upcoming episode
of Transformers Prime showing a very Generation
1 looking Transformers Prime Shockwave. No voice
or other details yet, but you can read it on
TFW first. And no pictures obviously have surfaced
of this, right? Well, besides what was on the
video, which I don't think anyone has put up
on YouTube yet, the only picture that TFW has
is that backwards ass War for Cybertron picture.
Um, I don't think yeah, I don't think that looks
that bad though the war for Cybertron. Well,
no, it doesn't I mean, I think he should be bigger,
but that's just personal preference I mean people
don't think that he was small in the game. I
never got that far in the game. So well, he was
only a He was only a store -exclusive character
that you could play with. Oh, you played online
or something, wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah, that's really
all he was in War for Cybertron. Yeah. The War
for Cybertron design is cool. I don't think...
I think they're gonna prime him up. I think that...
You know, we speculated over at the All Things
Transformers podcast when we did that episode
about BotCon that he's probably gonna look similar
to Soundwave as far as the... the thinness and
design of him um as far as his overall aesthetic
but i don't know i i would hope that shockwave
would be bigger than soundwave at least a little
bit well my thought process is that uh good old
shocker is still on cybertron he's still running
that show albeit probably it's a you know fleeting
There's no show to run in Transformers Prime,
Cybertron. Do what? That planet is dead, dude.
Well, I mean, the fact that the Insecticons are
still there to me says that there's still some
kind of a presence of, you know, Decepticon or
something there. So I think Shockwave is there
in some kind of really limited capacity, kind
of like overseeing a dead empire. I mean, he's
just kind of there. but um you know and then
all these relics they're they're going around
getting all these relics of cybertron and stuff
like that and i i don't know i think that that's
going to be that some that's in my opinion that's
how it's going to get tied in to like the season
finale yeah that's that's my thought process
i don't know all as i know is i'm absolutely
loving that show Show is just awesome a lot of
people like complaining about they say that there's
very little character development well at least
with the I mean like a lot of hardcore fans are
Bitching and complaining they don't like Peter
Cullen as this optimist prime There's no point
in the show. They're not doing anything. They
fight they fight done I mean, there's no I mean
they had this couple shows that were like three
in a row that actually tied together But what's
the point? There's no like long? Story going
on like what's the yes there is what's the goal?
We haven't gotten to the goal yet. They're looking
for the relics right now Every week they're trying
to get them, but it's like watching the old like
what you talked about before it's like watching
The Incredible Hawk he just kind of wanders around
and gets into things. It's like there's no real
point Just go find the relics and stop messing
around with shadow strike bumblebee for some
frickin reason there's gonna be a toy Well, yeah,
there's gonna be a shot. Well, but but again
as as Paul always says Hasbro has to make their
money So repaint repaint repaint, especially
bumblebee Well, that's because Hasbro that's
where they make their most money from kids is
is they buy a bunch of bumblebee shit Well, maybe
they should just do like a show for like mute
people not have anybody talk during the whole
show and they'll sell like crazy You know I find
it interesting though that everybody they always
talk about how that these you know These are
cartoons that are designed for kids and things
of that nature Well, that's the time is designed
for the fans in my opinion Well, then and that's
that's what I was gonna say if that's the case
Then why do we have rescue rescue bots going
at the same time, right? Yeah, you know I mean
they clearly made a conscious decision to say
that this is for older Fans for the most part
in rescue bots is for the younger kids but I
Don't know. I don't know. I mean I see what people
saying I mean, I mean other than the nostalgia
factor of having Cullen and Welker do an Optimus
Prime and Megatron I Really do think that this
this Optimus Prime could be played by somebody
else And hell they could bring David Kay into
this and have him do Optimus Prime and no they
couldn't Not David, no. And the only reason why
I say no to David Kaye on this style of Optimus
is because of the fact that he is so ingrained
in our minds as animated Optimus design. Oh,
yeah. OK, OK. And Peter Cullen's not ingrained
in our mind is something else either? Well, he
is, but. I mean and see that's the thing. It's
like everybody hates on calling as prime in this
series I don't I like seeing and I like hearing
him with that design for this because I don't
see the Transformers prime cartoon optimus as
Yes, he does have a little bit of movie design,
but it's also unique to this cartoon. It's not
the exact copy of the movie. It's slightly different
Well, so so is bumblebee. So what's your point?
I like bumblebee in prime I think Bob needs to
get Netflix so he can watch the first season
because it does tell a full -on story between
season one and season two. I've watched every
episode and it's just like some of them it's
so slow it's like just get to the freaking point
already. Season one was you know all leading
up towards the whole Unicron thing which I thought
that they blew the Unicron load a little bit
too early. I really think that they should have
saved that and made that a little bit more of
an epic thing. Because honestly, no matter what
happens, Unicron being the core of our planet,
they could have blown that up into something
massive. I thought that was very unique. That
had never been done before. I mean, Usicron had
always been his own planet. Yeah, that's fine.
That's fine. But what I'm saying is that they
could have taken this and used it as, you know,
like a series finale sort of thing that had a
much more epic, powerful tone to it. Well, I
know I know you have the DVD sets, but I'm not
sure if you have listened to the commentaries
because I have. OK, well, then, you know, in
the commentaries, they say Because Unicron is
the center of the earth. He's great now. He's
just defeated. He may come back He's sleeping
again that the matrix didn't kill him it just
right back in the stasis But so I mean you're
right, and if he comes back. He's gonna be really
pissed off I just think I think my biggest problem
with the whole show is There's only like you
know for Autobots. You know and then you got
will talk flying around wherever But there's
so many Decepticons and they just keep coming
and there's more and more and more and... Why
don't they just... I just don't understand. There's
not as many Decepticons as you think. I mean,
the Vehicons are just drones. You can't really
count them. Yeah, but they have their own personalities
and stuff. Doesn't matter. They're cannon fodder.
That's all they are. Yeah, they really are. But
I mean... So, okay, we got Starscream, we got
Soundwave, we got Knockout, we have Breakdown,
we have Megatron. Well, we kind of have Breakdown,
we're not sure if he's dead or... He's been around
for... Right, right. You got Dreadwing, you got...
It's like they keep coming up with new ones over
and over, you know, and... Who else? And let's
just throw the Veacons in there. I'm counting
eight. And then you got the Insecticon. Nine.
Okay, well they had like four hundred thousand
of them, you know Insecticons are like a bigger
version of the via cons, right? I don't okay.
Here's the thing I count the army's the I count
Megatron's armies whether they be insecticons
or via Connor Errata Connor, whatever your mom
count those as one army. That's Megatron's army
of soldiers against four autobots or whatever.
It just doesn't seem like how come they can keep
winning against... There's four autobots, but
then there's also Miko, Raph, and Jack. Useless.
No, they're not, actually. They're the best humans
in Transformers cartoon history. For love of
God. They are! How? How? They actually have character
development. They actually care about these autobots.
jackson jackson has character development okay
okay jack and raf have character development
miko she the only reason why i say miko has character
development is because of um... oh god what was
the episode uh... uh... not partners the partners
the one where they're stuck in the cave and she's
trying to save bulkhead even though she's only
a human and she can't lift her prop element that's
just she got development the only thing that
we know is that she's got a foster parent she's
got foster parents and her other parents live
in China or something like that and Raph we don't
know anything about other than he's smart right
Raph nothing Jack is the only one that's gotten
character development of these humans so far
yes so far but I mean you're already like a season
and a third Into the series and these main characters
still don't have character development, right?
I mean that's pretty weak. I mean and I'm not
just saying this just out of you know, whatever
I mean, I'm pissed off that it's taking this
long to get character development for you know,
the wiley twins in thundercats I'm like really
now we get the story about you know wiley kitten
cat like 20 episodes into it Okay, this is something
that should happen like in the first Like, dozen
episodes. Yeah. I don't know. I just think it's
a smartly written series. The series is not done
yet. They are putting everything that the writers
and creators of the cartoon, and I'm not counting
Hasbro here. Hasbro Studios, I will count. The
people that are working on it are actually paying
attention to it. They're doing the best they
can. They're bringing in pretty damn good writers.
and I think it's coming along very nicely we
don't know where it's gonna go because it's not
over yet and you know Hasbro's behind it for
the most part it's not like you know Cartoon
Network and and all that bullshit with animated
so I think we're gonna take a break here in the
podcast because Kevin just kind of disappeared
we'll be back after this Horse Prime Look let
him know I just received excess to satellite
imagery which I believe pinpoints the center
of operations of men Oh for the love of Get me
someone who speaks something other than bleep!
I can help. What? Do I hear a fuzor in need of
voice box repair? What's a fuzor? What's going
on over there? Everybody do the bed. You know,
I gotta say that this, uh, this, uh, RID, uh,
Viacom is really fun to transform. You like how
the foldy windows go, like, into the feet? Yeah,
his legs like fold out, fold out, fold out. Right.
It's ridiculous. I love this thing. I love how
much of the kibble gets hidden on him. Oh, yeah.
It's amazing. The only thing that I'm kind of
like about are his derpy arms. I mean, his arms
are really. So you're saying he has derpy ooze.
Derpy. Derpy, derpy, derpy. I mean, his arms
are just, I don't know, derpy. What about his
weapon? His weapons kind of derpy to I can't
is better than the first or no, I don't think
it's better than the first But I mean it's it's
it's a good it's a good weapon it You know he
can hold it like it's a gun, but then it also
kind of sort of clips on to his his side panels
Which is like okay? That's that's fine, but it
doesn't look like it's coming out of his hand
At least with the first edition, they got that
right. I mean, but this is really, I mean, it
really is amazing. It's like, I love transforming
them. It's like, wow. Here's, I'm folding it
once, I'm folding it twice, I'm folding it three
times, and there's the whole roof of this damn
car. It's like, wow. I really do like this thing.
I just keep transforming it back and forth. What's
that? You know what to who? Who? When? What?
Who? I don't know. So, so out of all of them,
which one's your favorite so far? Out of all
of them ever? Out of all the prime toys. If you
had to pick one that was your favorite. The best
quality, you know, it has like an A that you
give it a 10 out of 10. If you had to. Because
I haven't found one yet. Wheeljack maybe. Wheeljack
I like um Are you talking just like our ID fingers?
Just a general just have the deluxe ones like
not not the voyagers or anything just deluxe
But but the RID ones not not including the first
edition no including every single Okay, okay,
all right calm down do all the deluxe it could
be a first edition or RID As the deluxe is um
If somebody was poor and he had $14 to spend
and they could only buy one in their whole lifetime,
which one would you tell him to pick? Ratchet.
I wouldn't buy ratchet. I would. He had stickers
though. But you probably can get stickers. I'm
gonna have to say... Starscream. Starscream?
Starscream is probably who I would pick, yeah.
Yeah, he's the only first edition one I have.
He's way better than the RIDs. Well, there is
rumor floating around right now that I just saw
that some of the first editions are going to
get released overseas at least. That should theoretically
bring some of the prices down on some of the
ones online and make it easier for people to
get them. So are they really like $80, $90 for
freaking first edition? Yeah. That's right. I
paid I paid $90 for the Dakar version of first
edition bulkhead Wow But it was a gift from somebody
somebody else actually paid that money. Not me
I just couldn't cease paying $90. You can almost
get a Gen one for that much. Yeah, that's that's
essentially paying paying an eBay price for an
early figure Yeah, yeah Mean I know they're hard
to get I said I didn't actually physically pay
for it somebody else right I I have a hard time
paying $14 you know in regular store I'm like
I remember when they were like 9 and 12 you know
like just the movie verse ones And they were
better quality. I think I Just I just cliff jumper.
I don't know he's he's soured my puss about it
Well, you know you you got a dud With him. No
arms are horrible man. I Mean I I agree they're
they're not that good but You know if you got
one that holds together a little bit better,
it's a little bit more manageable I agree that
the arms on the figure of bad. I was Hasbro for
making a crappy toy. I want my $14 back That's
not gonna spend $14. I only spent 11 on him At
Walmart here, they're $14 .99. Well, that's because
you're going to Walmart and their prices suck.
I don't care what the commercials say. Yeah,
even Target would be about the same. I mean,
I might save a dollar maybe. And sometimes you
can find them for $12, but still that's way too
much for a piece of shit that doesn't even stay
together. Sorry. I just hate that toy. I want
to burn it. I want to pee on it. while it's on
fire. I would do it on YouTube, but I'd probably
get in trouble. No, you wouldn't. Who would you
get in trouble by? I mean, if Paul can attempt
to light his ice cream. Light it on fire and
then pee on it? You don't have to. I don't even
think I'd waste a pee, actually. I'd just let
it burn. Dude, just go buy it. Oh, I got it.
Oh, this will really light it up. Light it on
fire. Go buy a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade.
Light it on fire, and pour the alcohol over it.
I don't even know if that would... There's so
little alcohol in that stuff, I don't even think
it would catch on fire. You never know. May the
fourth be with you, by the way. May the fourth
be with you. Tomorrow's revenge of the fifth.
It is. Oh god. Hey, don't - no, no, it is. No,
I - I actually - I coined a new ver - I coined
a new day. You coined your what? I coined a new
day, dammit! What is that? You corndro your what?
Cornhole? Shut the fuck up. May the 4th be avenged.
May the 4th be avenged? That's stupid. You're
stupid. You're stupid. Mommy, daddy. Shut the
hell up. You're stupid, you're stupid. You're
more stupid, stupid. Hey, I gotta say MCA died
and I'm a very sad panda. What? MCA? Beastie
Boy MCA? Oh, okay. I'm a sad panda about it.
I know that has nothing to do with toys or Hasbro,
but it just makes me a sad panda. As older people
that we are, when we were young, we got our motivation
and our... our desire to fight for your right
from the Beastie Boys and now it's uh he lost
his battle what what 47 years old lost his battle
with cancer 47 yeah 47 and lost his battle with
cancer god rest his soul but uh my wife we have
we we we as you guys know uh i do have a new
addition to my house um Uh, not a cat yet. That
comes next week. Yeah, you killed a fish, another
one? Well, three fish now have died. Oh no. You're
a fish murderer. Two days in a row, I've lost
a fish. You've lost a fish face. I've lost a
fish face. So we got things stabilized, you know,
hopefully now, and you've got a lot of background
noise. What? Fucking Skype is telling me I got
background noise. Lovely, I need to go to the
grocery store. What the hell? Oh, I heard Mike.
Mike, you there? Yeah. Oh, okay. We lost Kevin
again. Yeah, I think we did. So we went and we
got, because I'm getting a ridiculous amount
of algae now growing in my tank, so we went and
we bought a couple snails, which Burn likes.
Burn likes snails. And we got two little hermit
crabs and all she does is she comes in and she
watches them eat poop off of my rocks Because
as soon as they got in this sounds kinky and
wrong I know as soon as as soon as they got in
the tank They went to town and burns all like
these are gonna be little fat snails by the time
they're done There's so much food in here. They're
gonna be fat. Well, they live in California.
What do you expect scat snails? But but gentlemen
you guys can continue on I actually have to leave
I have to go to the grocery store we We have
a Pentathlon Pentathlon there's no a in there.
It's pentathlon which is an academic academic
challenge thing for her students that I'm chaperoning
tomorrow and we have to go get snacks. Did she
get you a nice little chauffeur's hat? No, I'm
actually not allowed to drive because I don't,
in order to drive for like, what are these things
called? School trips? What are they called? Peel
trips. In order to drive, you actually have to
like go down and get fingerprinted by the police
and get all this stuff and you know, you have
to do like a whole process to be able to legally
be allowed to drive students to school events,
and I do not have that. So I don't need to drive.
And if you went down and got fingerprinted, people
would see that you destroyed plastic in your
youth. That's possibly true. They'd be like,
um, why is this guy allowed to be around children
when all he does is he burns things? So we have
to go and do that so you gentlemen can continue
on and Have fun and do your thing and I would
just like to say that the first edition Version
of the the vehicle is huge compared to this RID
one If I was still collecting I would want the
first edition for the alt mode and I would want
the RID one for the For the robot mode. Really,
when you transform the RID one into his robot
mode, he's as big as the first edition. I mean,
they're the same size in robot mode, but alternate
mode? Much, much bigger. Holy craptastic. I'm
looking at him now. Ridiculous. I mean, where's
my measuring tape? Hold on. Oh, it never ends.
Yes, it does. This thing is... All right lined
up front bumper to bumper This thing is like
a whole like half an inch longer Than then our
ID one and So can't get wrong. Oh Jesus all right
now. I'm leaving. Goodbye guys. Bye See you next
week He's gone I think I don't know I'm not even
looking at I'm loading shit to Facebook All right,
what else do we want to talk about anything Well,
I'm since I'm still having technical difficulties,
I don't know if you guys are no, I'm not but
I Think Bob needs to have a more of an open mind
with prime No, I have an open mind, but it just
seems a little unfair for the Autobots. It's
just like they're fighting an unsurroundable
force. Yeah, but they keep coming out on top
most of the time. I know, but it seems realistic.
They're the better fighters. It's not realistic
to me. I mean, they're undergunned, they're under
everything, and they still keep winning somehow.
Because they have little kids on their side,
and... I just... Don't know you know what Bob
I'll put you this way I overthink it I Did not
watch all of season one when it was airing Because
I watched like the the first five episodes. I
really wasn't impressed and then I went back
when the season finished and I saw the entire
season front to back and I fell in love with
the show so you might have to do it that way
Yeah I'm gonna keep giving it a try. I'm not
giving up on it. You know, I'm still gonna watch
it It's just maybe I overanalyze it too much,
and I'm just like where all these old Decepticons
coming from they don't say I Can't even hear
you guys sorry Keep going Bob. I Don't know it
just seems like you know every episode. There's
a new character new Decepticon showing up But
where are all the Autobots at? They're getting
blown up in space. And you know they're around.
Why don't they come and help them out? Well,
maybe the communications are down. I mean, there's
so many reasons I could give to you. But the
whole point is that the team prime that has been
there to this point They've been there for a
number of you like when when the series started
with darkness rising They'd been there for a
number of years previously. It wasn't like they
just crack It wasn't was like the fucking movies
where they just crash landed on earth, right?
Yeah, they've been there right. They've been
there for a while and The whole point of the
story is and I think this is The greatest thing
about television and cartoons is that you're
not constrained to 120 minutes or 90 minutes
or whatever film time constraints are. Where
you can bring in those new characters, you can
bring in other characters with the whole Wheeljack
thing. What happened was part of episode 20 of
season 1 partners that was originally supposed
to be a wheeljack episode But they had to change
it up because animation wasn't right or you know
something like that wasn't right so they created
the whole backstory of What I still can't hear
you guys it's okay He couldn't hear us it's okay,
but he can't hear you say it's okay It's okay.
Oh There you go um no but I understand what you
mean you know that they they've been there for
a long time and it's not gonna change but it's
just I mean the Decepticons have an airship why
don't they just bomb to live in daylights out
of where the Autobots are I mean they don't know
where the Autobots are that's the thing Megatron
was there wouldn't he have like a GPS thing knowing
where he was at they had single dampers I guess
I just overthink it or something. I just need
to just enjoy need to go back You need to go
into it like you would go into Revenge of the
Fallen a brainless stupid movie Why I read the
books and stuff first, right which was a mistake
Because the books are way better because they
it explains more. All right, but my thing is
say, okay They're looking for their art for artifacts,
right? Mm -hmm when prime got turned in to a
decepticon he could find him he was doing the
baby stepping he was decoding he was they were
able to find him right why doesn't he do that
when he's an autobot he just doesn't know how
to do it he doesn't remember well no well here
here's the thing he only remembers as orion right
remember as prime Right, exactly, because as
Orion Pax, he was the chronicler. He was the
archivist who knew how to do research. So now
he doesn't know how to do it once he turned into
Prime. Right, once he became Optimus Prime, he
became the future battle -hardened leader of
the Autobots. Okay, so he wouldn't have any memory
of who he used to be? Pretty much. Yeah as far
as far as far as what I can tell from the series.
Yes, I think that was my biggest thing It's like
why doesn't he just remember how to do it I mean
he did it before why couldn't he just when he's
prime. It's almost like he's another person It's
like split personality kind of thing has the
matrix. He's completely War gun ho leadership,
but when he doesn't he's kind of like the nerdy
computer guy Yeah, he turns into Sheldon I'm
joking, but it's just I understand now. It's
like it's I think of them as the same people,
you know, it's like Let me put it to you this
way think of it as time travel, okay Think of
it as back to the future time travel where in
1985 you have Optimus Prime In 1955, you have
Orion Pax, who has not yet become Optimus Prime,
and think of it as two different personalities.
So when he, when he, when the, when the Wizard
of the Matrix left him and he became Orion Pax
again, it was like he went back in time because
he didn't know that they were on a different
planet. He didn't know that He wasn't friends
with Megatron. He didn't even know that Megatron
shortened his name. He's like Megatronus. What
is going on? Blah, blah, blah. So think of it
as time travel. Well, yeah, yeah. I guess I just
have a problem. Just because he has the Matrix,
why would he lose all of his memories? But yeah,
he has all the combined memories of the Primes
with the Matrix. I just overthink it. I just
need to enjoy it and stop thinking too much.
Yeah, you do. Yeah, I'm not giving up on it.
You know trust me. I'm still I still watch every
episode and and My kids love it. I mean we sit
there watch it together So it's kind of a cool
thing to do with your kids and and what I was
saying earlier about the humans being these humans
being the best humans We've had to this point
In in the US based cartoons anyway because that's
really all I pay attention to as a kid and even
now looking back with you know those nostalgic
red rim red rose glasses whatever i like spike
and spark plug from g1 to a lesser extent i like
daniel in parts uh more so the movie versus season
three um beast wars those kids were just meant
to be little Humanoid children. I mean there
there really is nothing to dislike about the
Beast Wars kids animated Sorry was just too annoying
She just was that and she was meant to be that
annoying eight -year -old kid character We're
you know and taking with a grain of salt the
unicorn trilogy and kicker and all that bullshit
I just think that with the story that Prime is
telling and how they are going about making these
kids part of the team versus doing single story
episodes of, hey, it's this week we have to save
Miko, or hey, it's this week we have to save
Jack. I mean, Miko is not... A lot of people
find her annoying as hell. I don't. I find her...
I find she adds a... a comedic relief to the
team. I find that some of her ideas actually
lead the team places. What was that latest episode?
Not the latest one, but a couple episodes ago
here in season two, she asked a question and
that got Jack thinking about something and that
led them to do something. I don't know, I just
think that this is a is the best written robot
version of... and the reason why I say robot
version is because I know my buddy Steve Megatron
loves Beast Wars. I see Transformers in two different
parallels. I see the mechanical car into robot
versions and I see the beast era on a completely
different level. I don't know, I just, I don't
know, whatever. What are you gonna say? Why I
just don't you know with jet with Jack, you know,
he was the one that had to go find The secret
and you know get optimist prime back. Yeah, so
using him I can I could see it, you know there
he was useful but most of the time it's just
like You know ratchet and them are hanging out
the shop and you know, the other guys are going
and actually doing something well with ref originally
Raphael was supposed to The original plot idea
was that Raphael was supposed to be the one that
got Infected because because Megatron infected
him with dark energy on the whole original plot
was that Unicron was gonna take over Raph's body.
Oh, I changed it They changed it at the last
minute I don't know. I just thought when I when
I saw the backstory of of Unicron and Primus
and the fact that Unicron went off somewhere
instead of becoming his own planet, he became
our planet. I think that there's an inherent
story in that because, you know, sure, Megatron
can conquer the Earth, but if he conquers the
Earth, he's conquering Unicron, but you can't
destroy the Earth because, obviously, you can't
destroy Unicron because he's the Earth's score.
I just find that it's a decent plot line and
it's a good plot line because there's so much
that you can or can't do with it. Yeah, and one
of them actually looked like The blue and white
truck I can't think of his name. I'm drawing
a blank. Oh my goodness Yeah, it's like are they
gonna bring him because he almost looks like
the prime kind of figure Like the the the cartoony
they they might bring him into the series I don't
know if they will or not. I think they just need
to bring in more people to Not keep it so, you
know, it's it seems like they're going to have
so many storylines for each character You know,
we learned about bumblebee and white can't talk
because it's not a Mechanism, it's actually biomechanism
ism and it just regrow one You know, so he's
never gonna have a voice, you know, there's nothing
they can do about it. Yeah, and you know, it's
like You know and like the the repaint, you know
for dead end or they're gonna bring him into
this show, you know I don't know, I think all
the toys that we saw at BotCon this year for
Prime that are not characters in the show are
just them doing their, it's just Hasbro doing
their regular, hey, let's repaint to release
this character, let's repaint to release, I have
no idea where that dead -end design came from.
Yeah, see, I just wondered if they're gonna actually
be on the show, like, you know, they're... It's
possible, I mean, they've said that, the creators
have said that they... Want to bring in as many
characters as they can but the main focus here
also they want to keep the focus on RC and Jack
bumblebee and Raph and and Yeah, you know they
they have to keep at least those three and you
know optimus can you know? It was said somewhere
online that when optimus is not on an episode
of prime that means he'll be over and rescue
bots I don't know that's kind of silly to me,
but And see, I actually watch rescue bots because
I have a three -year -old. Well, he's gonna be
four here soon. And he was only on the first
episode. He told the bots what to do and how
to help the humans and that was it. Right. And
Bumblebee's never even been on there, but they
have his toy. I've never seen Bumblebee yet.
Yeah. But I have a rescue bot, Bumblebee. Yeah.
It's like, I kind of wondered if they just threw
that in there. Like you were saying Bumblebee
seems to sell and get, you know, three four -year
-olds in the bumblebee early brainwash him that
he's such a great character well i'm sorry i
never got i never like bumblebee he just seemed
kind of pointless oh boy i know i just was more
into like the mirages and the guys that actually
had cool stuff going on Yeah, and I can kind
of see that you know I think at least for me
where I got turned off was movie B Because that
was just you know radio B is just so stupid right
I don't I don't I don't mind the beeping because
again it offers up Exposition you know it offers
up something for RAF to do with exposition and
explaining what bumblebee is doing and at this
point You know middle of see you know almost
the middle of season two. I can almost understand
stuff that that bumblebee is saying as far as
like his mannerisms is like uh... the episode
where he lost his sir his teacup got removed
i mean you know when he's got his fists up he's
going after star scream and even even without
his weapons bumblebee kick star screams ass and
you gotta give him credit for being able to convey
emotion through the beeping Cuz you knew he was
just like mother You know, he was yeah, he was
ready to go off and I gotta give him credit for
doing that. I mean being able to You know display
emotion without actually saying anything Yeah,
it's actually that came across and at least for
me it did I mean you can understand how he was
feeling, you know Yeah, and even star screaming
even though he can still talk and stuff. He's
kind of I know Kevin's gonna kill me but yeah
He he's just kind of I don't know He's kind of
wishy -washy. Yeah, I wouldn't trust him further
than I could throw him true This is the first
series. I Don't know if it's the way Steve Bloom
voices the character Or if it's the character
in general, but Transformers Prime is the first
series that I've absolutely loved everything
that Starscream does and the way he said I think
it's because it was the way Steve Bloom voices
in. Or it's the boots. Yeah, exactly. No, he
does do them, you know, just you can tell He
says one thing like to the Autobots trying to
get him to you know, help him out of the situation
But he soon as they turn around he's gonna start
firing on him, you know, he'll use every missile
he has. Oh, yeah Yeah, he will We're just talking
about your favorite character there Kevin Kevin
He's back supposedly I can still barely make
you guys out. Ah Well, I guess we'll have to
time. Can you hear me? yes we can hear you oh
he's typing yeah because my internet's crappy
right now because of this weather now i have
to do all this editing damn it sorry So yeah.
Okay, so where were we? I don't know. Oh, talking
to... We were in a perfectly good conversation.
Oh, I was talking about Starscream. Yeah, the
characterization of him. It was the first time
you've actually really liked the character of
Starscream. I hated movie verse Starscream. I
hated it. Yeah, that was... He killed Jas, but...
I liked animated Starscream to a point, but...
I just, I think at the point when animated came
out, I've never really liked Starscream. I liked
him in G1 for the most part, but I don't know,
even back then as a kid, he wasn't a character
that I gravitated towards. Me either. I liked
Skywarp more, I liked Thundercracker. Thundercracker
was the man, yeah. Yeah. You know, so I just...
You know, Prime is the first time that I've actually
absolutely loved what was done with Starscream.
I think it's because of what Steve Blum does
with the voice. And the thing with him not having
his... I think that's an interesting plot for
him. Him not having his t -cog. And then, you
know, him having to sneak around everywhere.
Now that's a biome mechanism, right? They can't
make him... They can't just give him a new one.
Right not as far as I know so they can he could
just go find a spare one somewhere or get one
made I don't know well the last couple episodes
and for anyone who hasn't seen Transformers Prime
season 2 at this point you might want to fast
-forward this The last couple episodes. I don't
think it was flying mind. I think it was the
episode before flying mind I forget what the
name of it is off top my head the episode before
last week's He started cloning himself and yeah,
you can transform exactly. That's what I was
wondering, right? So what I'm thinking is if
he clones himself rips out that t -cog and puts
it in himself Will he then be able to transform
again? So I don't know see I was wondering if
it was kind of like, you know, like with bumblebee's
voice, you know, is it It's only made for one
thing. You can't take a voice box out of something
else and put it in his and it would work it's
right bio engineered just for that one being
right right but if you cloned bumblebee and then
took the clones voice box out right as you clone
i don't know i don't even know if that would
work because Yeah. Essentially what they would
end up doing, now that they've created this clone
technology in Transformers Prime, the way I look
at it is, if Starscream had only cloned one of
himself, it was said that the clones are essentially
an extension of him. So if the clone is an extension
of him, or if the clone retains all his memories
and all his personality and characteristics,
why not just create the clone Have the clone
kill the original and then just keep going if
if if he has this all the same memories and everything
else I don't know. Yeah. Yeah, I switch mean
like you like he what movie was that when I?
Can't remember what movie that was there was
actually a movie like that But you know you lose
a body and you just transfer download yourself
into a new body Yeah, but like like you were
saying He had all these clones right and Is there
like a limit to what can happen like how far
they can clone? I mean how many of them he could
have his own army if you wanted to like he tried
I Mean he could do hundreds on hundreds of them
Yeah, that's true But I wonder if there's like
a limit if he starts getting like derpy ones
at the end cuz it you know The DNA is you're
running out cuz he's running out of whatever
he used, you know to power them. He used part
of himself. I'm not sure. When it gets to cloning
and DNA and all that, it's very convoluted. Well,
yeah. I mean, they did it fine, but I was just,
you know, like you said, why couldn't he just,
you know, let him be gone and he can... There'd
be a new Starscream. You know, let him fight
it out in the winter. That's the new Starscream
and he can transform again. Yep. Don't know it's
all very very convoluted. So I think see what
happens. Yeah. Yeah, we will have to see what
happens I think we're gonna end this week's episode
Seeing is how Paul had to go do whatever and
Kevin's your stop. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, Kevin's
in the middle of Armageddon over there in Philadelphia
And normally I am cuz I mean, you know, yeah
or Kansas. Yeah, and it's quiet and nice and
no problem at all It was like 94 degrees out
today. Oh god, I hate the heat. Oh me too. So
yeah, I think that's gonna do it for this week.
We will catch you next week.
