About this Episode

We break down the recent public discourse surrounding the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, specifically the controversy regarding Michael Bay's comments on the origins of the characters. We examine the tendency for fans to prematurely judge projects in development and compare the current fan reaction to past reactions to Transformers films. The conversation shifts to Transformers Prime, addressing criticisms of Optimus Prime's character arc during the Orion Pax episodes. Finally, we discuss the ethics of digital piracy, the frustrations of regional distribution for The Hub network, and why viewer impatience fuels debates around legislation like SOPA.

hockey game and I have to call you to record

me bitching about people that are bitching about

this okay okay first of all hold on before you

before you unleash the fury here his company

producing it he's not directing it but it's one

of those things where he'll make a half -ass

comment and then there'll be reports later of

oh well he said it out of context or whatever

he didn't get the right meaning you know I fully

in my video I fully said that hey You know I

you know I can give the guy props for bringing

the transformers fandom back into You know popularity

that it has now because of those movies But if

you're not directing a fucking movie you should

have no fucking input Into an origin story Where

does anybody get that he has any input at all

because he's talking about what's happening with

the movie? Apparently so George Lucas does that

I mean I mean fucking Steven Spielberg You know

comes out and talks about the 3d and dark of

the moon. He doesn't have any input in the movie

He's just talking about it. He produces it, but

that's it And I don't understand see this is

one thing that aggravates me. Okay. It's Michael

Bay. Oh my god He ruined my childhood between

are you recording this right now? Yeah, all right

good. Oh my god He ruined Transformers, he ruined

my childhood! All right, first of all, he said

that they're an alien race, okay? That's all

he said. Why does it have to be, why can't these

aliens come to our planet, which, you know, okay,

that's believable. I mean, that's fine. When

they come here, somehow they get mutated. I mean,

he's not that fucking stupid. It's in the title.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's in the title.

It would be like him making Transformers and

not making them transform. He's not that dumb.

They're gonna be mutated somehow. He's just saying

that they're aliens, which, you know, that makes,

you know, I mean, from a realistic standpoint,

an alien coming here, they may not be able to

handle, you know, certain stuff. They might not

be able to come in contact with things that we

can. And hypothetically speaking, say they touch

water, and they become mutated. I mean, it's

within the realm of possibility. More so than

a bunch of little tiny baby turtles, getting

broken out of a little jar, coming in contact

with some radioactive ooze, and making them full

grown, living, breathing, blah blah blahs. It

makes more sense to do it this way. It's more

realistic. I like that better. And I'm a huge

Ninja Turtle fan. There's been no incarnation

since the comic books, and the comic books are

the only place they can actually get it right

because that's where they came from. I mean,

every cartoon series has fucked up the origins

of the turtles and most notably even Shredder.

I mean, the origins are screwed up in every kind

of media. I mean, at least with the 2003 series,

they got a little bit closer to it. You know,

I mean, it was still wasn't exactly perfect,

but it was a lot closer than the original 80's

series, which people are saying they're talking

about that it's ruining their childhood, yet

they don't even realize that the 80's Turtles

is a complete fucking mutated version of what

the actual Turtles are supposed to be like. Well,

here's the thing. Alright, alright. Okay, okay.

I will give you that, but here's the thing though.

Everything in the 80s for cartoons, minus like

G .I. Joe and Transformers and stuff like that,

the 80s cartoons had to be more colorful, had

to be more... Well, I agree. I agree and that's

fine. I'll go with that. Okay. And the Mirage

comics at the time were very... I've never read

them. I just know from like reading Wikipedia

articles about the history of the Mirage comics

that they are very dark. very serious, all that

stuff. So, in the 87th series, yes, it's cheesy

as hell. Yes, the origin is... It tells a story

because it basically sets up the fact that Shredder,

you know, after Hamato Yoshi left Japan and went

to America, Urokosaki followed him and essentially

stalked the man. you know, and then sent the

mutagen down the tube to mutate the turtles.

I don't see it out of the realm of possibility

of them putting a live action child in a movie

that's holding a glass bowl and he trips down

the sidewalk and the glass bowl breaks and turtles

fall down the sewer. I don't see that out of

the realm of possibility. I get what you're saying,

that it does a little bit make sense that they

would be from I don't know it's just the way

that he worded it. It's like the turtles are

an alien race No turtles are here for turtles

in general the animal a turtle is from Earth

damn it It's not from a fucking alien race. That's

where I'm really getting pissed is the way he

worded it What if what if now? I mean obviously

this wouldn't be you know again. This would not

go along with any of these You know generally

accepted origin of the turtles what happened

if? Aliens came here that are that resemble,

you know Turtles that resemble that you know

species. Okay, and What happened is this mutagen?

You know take them into You know because you

know, maybe they come in contact with a person.

I don't even know I mean we're all speculating

on what to be and nobody knows and everybody

just sits there and bitches about it and wants

to yell and scream and you know he's killing

my childhood we don't even know what you know

the movie is going to entail we have no clue

I mean we're just going by one thing that he

said and our minds are already racing now I mean

I'm a huge turtle fan I know I know everything

from turtles from you know the comic books through.

I mean, I didn't watch a lot of the 2003 series

I watched, like maybe the first two seasons or

something like that. But, um, you know, so I

mean, my knowledge spans all of it. I loved all

the movies with the exception of the last one.

Turtles 3 was just terrible. But, um, you know,

I mean, so I'm sitting here as a big fan of the

Ninja Turtles saying, you know what? If Michael

Bay and whoever directs this can do the same

fucking thing for the Ninja Turtles that he did

for Transformers... I say, go for it! Well, I

kind of agree with that statement. Here's the

thing, though. Again, as I said in my video,

right now, Turtles does not need a new movie.

It doesn't. Because we've got the Turtles toys

from the animated series that's coming up later

this year. We've got Turtles classics. And we've

got the new animated series, and I'm sure they're

going to find a whole bunch of way to get a whole

bunch of roleplay stuff in. I mean, we've seen

roleplay stuff from Toy Fair. So, you know, I

mean, Turtles is at a point now where it's back,

it's in the public eye. I do not deny if and

when this movie happens in 2013 or whenever,

whenever it's supposed to be released, I don't

deny that Michael Bay will, you know... End up

lining his own pockets with a bunch of money

and making a bunch of money for the franchise

But right now it's not a franchise that needs

a film I would I would say I would say it does

I would argue that it does Mostly because when

you I mean sure you're gonna have the cartoon

and things of that nature But that's not going

to bring as many fans to it as a feature film

that's not going to bring as much attention to

you know the franchise as a feature film and

Michael Bay is a money -making machine, regardless

of what, I mean, hell, he didn't like Transformers

before he got into it, and look what he did with

it, I mean, you know, one could argue, you know,

that it, you know, it hurt the franchise, I argue

that it helped the franchise, whatever, but with

Ninja Turtles, they've wanted to do a new Turtles

movie since the TMNT movie, what was that, 2007?

Yeah, 2007 was the CGI movie. Was that was a

fairly good success that brought along some toys

and that you know that did you know? Fair amount

of success, but it's been I can't even tell 93

is when Turtles 3 came out so 1993 to 2013 I

mean, that's that's a fairly long amount of time,

and I don't know I have no idea what they're

doing. I don't know if they're doing a live action

movie very similar to like, Ninja Turtles. They're

gonna have... See, they're gonna have CGI and

stuff in it. But, uh... So, I mean, it's been

since 1993, since we've had a decent... Let's

not even say 1993. When did Secret of the Ooze

come out? 91? 91. You know, so it's been since

91, since we've got a decent live action movie.

I mean, you know, Turtles 3, I didn't see it

as... the greatest abomination of all time. It's

not as good as the first two films and they basically

phoned it in, but it's not the worst thing ever.

I think the biggest problem with Turtles 3, at

least from my perspective, is any turtle movie

should have the shredder as being a villain.

That's just how it is in my opinion. When I watched

the TMNT movie and they're dealing with, oh I

forgot the guy's name, but they're dealing with

the stone statues and blah blah blah and all

the demons. That just kind of felt like a long

episode of something for me. They could have

broken that up and they could have did something.

Well, the 2007 CGI movie was based out of...

the 2003 cartoon continuity, where at that point

in the continuity of the 03 series, Shredder

was either dead or he... out in the middle of

space as a ootrom or something like that because

they had a lot of the 03 series care they had

like karai and all that stuff in there so that

was based in that continuity so that's why shredder

wasn't in that film because that makes sense

but you know but you know that that being said

then then yeah it's just a longer episode of

the 2003 series i mean right you need to have

a very big main villain and that's that's shredder

That's just the way it should be, in my opinion.

And I agree, it should be Shredder as the villain,

or it should be Shredder and Krang and the army

of Dimension X. And honestly, I'm gonna have

to go back and watch the 2003 series again, because

I don't remember all the different otherworldly

villains they had. But I mean, essentially...

To my knowledge the rogues gallery for turtles

is Shredder and Crang at the top They're henchmen

of bebop rocksteady. Yeah, but you know they're

there, but those are Right, but what I'm saying

is like the the turtles don't have to my knowledge

in the cartoon series They don't have a huge

rogues gallery. It's not like taking you know

seventy five years of superman comics or batman

comics and where batman has joker penguin mister

freese two -face you know it's not like that

so turtles it it has to be the main villain has

to be shredder if it's a new live -action film

from what i can tell from the news story that

i that everybody's been posting what bae has

said there's an image in there of what looks

to be live -action Suits or whatever the whatever

they're gonna use in this new movie So I don't

think I do know that this will be a live -action

movie. I just don't think it's You know, there's

no reason for anybody to be up in arms about

it right now I mean I mean, I'm not saying that

the movie isn't gonna be a flop I mean, I'm not

saying it's gonna be a great movie either. I

can shut up and wait I mean, everybody's already

passing judgment on this thing, and who don't

even know? Well, I mean, it's the same thing

with anything. I mean, you know, look at all

the judgment that was passed on... TF1 and then,

of course, all the judgment and rightfully so

on revenge of the fallen and all that stuff.

But I mean, but it's with anything. It's not

just with Michael Bay and with Transformers.

I mean, we are always quick to judge on on anything.

And then we'll look back in hindsight and say,

oh, yeah, well, I, you know, I guess it could

kind of work and whatever else. I just don't

like the way that he worded it. If he worded

it differently, because what I don't want to

happen is. You know. I don't want it to be, oh,

you have to look to Michael Bay's website and

look to this and look to that that it's his official

shit to the fact of getting a misinformation

campaign. Just the way that he worded his statement,

it made it seem like they were making them an

alien race. And that is the one thing that just

doesn't sit right with me. Yeah, and I mean,

it's entirely possible that it could happen.

Hell, I mean, as long as they're mutated somehow,

why does it matter? I don't know, it just does.

I mean, it's... It just does, dammit. Just a

giant cluster flub of everybody just rushing

a conclusion and, in my opinion, just stupid.

I mean, I was, I mean, I hope that, um, Nicole

Hailstorm... You know, I read a post on her Facebook,

you know, you know, for the love of God, Michael

Bay, you know, give the movie up to somebody

who can direct it. I'm like, he's not directing

it. You know, I mean, everybody's having a nerve

rage over this and Michael Bay's not even directing

it. My buddy Neil commented on our, on the Geek

Cats Radio Network Facebook page post and he

says, Actually, people are starting to suggest

that Bay was only describing how he wants the

turtles to look and they would be so realistic

would it be as if they were alien race. Apparently

there's a longer quote that supports this, so

there's a chance that Michael Bay may not be

completely off his rocker. So maybe we can go

back to worrying about all the other terrible

ideas that Bay will almost certainly try to fit

into the movie, such as annoying government agents,

stupid kids. quote -unquote comedic ethnic stereotypes,

gasoline explosions, shaky cameras, high -speed

chases, and a bunch of other things that have

nothing to do with the turtles. He's gonna ship

back and just collect money from it. That's all

it means. That's all it means. Yeah. You know,

I mean, he's gonna let... He's... Somebody else

is doing it. Somebody else is directing it. Somebody

else is writing the story. He doesn't... You

know, Bay doesn't have input. There's not gonna

be high -speed chases. There's not gonna be stupid

teenagers. I mean... Give me a break, people.

Come on. I mean, the first Ninja Turtle movie

had stupid teenagers. Who the fuck was Danny?

Why the fuck is Danny in the movie? Who's he?

Well, in the context of the film, he was Charles'

son. Yeah, but Charles... Charles, you know,

in the original... Well, I don't even remember

his name. The original, like, dude from the Channel

9 news or whatever, I don't even think Charles

was his name. In the cartoon or in the comics?

In the cartoon. In the 87 cartoon, it was...

An older guy named Vern. Vern! Yeah, Vern. You

know, he didn't have a kid, yet the movie comes

along and all of a sudden, Charles has a kid!

Why did nobody freak out about that? Because

who cares? It worked in the context of the movie,

but oh my god! Michael Bay must have directed

that one, too. I mean, come on. There's no turtle

van. No turtle van in the movie. Well, 1990.

You know, as much as we would want it in those

movies, that, so, was not practical. I mean,

there was no way they were going to be able to

make that. It's you know, I am waiting I am I

am holding out hope I still understand that it's

not Bay directing and it's his company producing

and all that stuff My problem is you did it you

didn't wait too long because How long afterwards

did it take you to get on YouTube and rant about

it? Anyways But no, but Even before this whole

thing of what he said about that they're an alien

race, even before that, when the news first came

out, I was like, oh, OK, his company's just producing

it fine, whatever. What I have a problem with

is him just like anybody. Anybody can open up

their mouth and say something. That's all well

and good. What I have an issue with is if it's

not the director or if it's not You know someone

that is actually working on the film that is

actually putting their vision into it You know,

that's where I have the problem of him opening

his big fat mouth I'm waiting to see if Eastman

or Laird will will make a statement about the

film at all To just see what they have to say

about it Well, I mean, that being said, the movie's

not supposed to come out, I think, until Christmas

of 2013. Right. We got a whole year and a half,

yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's nothing going on

right now with this movie. I mean, there's so

little done, I would bet, when it comes to this

film already. You know, if you're lucky, they

might have a script done. That might be pushing

it. You know, I mean, it takes about a year to

do the movie, you know, and then they got to

get all this stuff done. You know, so I mean,

I mean, really, like I said, all it is, is Michael

Bay. And it's not, you know, the only reason

he's actually, I mean, my example, for example,

is Steven Spielberg. He's come out and he talked

about the Transformers movie. Why is it such

a big deal, you know, that Bay does this? He,

you know, just mentioned it. His company is you

know the one doing the digital effects on it

That's that's nothing spectacular Right No, I

mean, so it's just people are just Wigging out

over it. You know and see they haven't even see

that's what kind of makes me mad because I'm

on IMDB Pro looking at the the in development

information for the 2013 Turtles movie You're

right. It does have a script The expected release

day is Christmas Day 2013. Well, Christmas Day

movies never actually do well, no matter what,

if it's Michael Bay or not. It says that they

are courting Jonathan Libsman to direct... Let's

see, what else? Paramount release... No, that's

something else. Live -action adventure of the

popular teenage, two -age -able and reptile ninjas...

Yeah, so right now they've got a script and they're

courting some dude named Jonathan to direct it.

That's really all the I Mean they don't even

have a you know a director Slated for it yet,

so I mean this is the real early goings of it.

I mean I don't know why he would you know I just

don't know why he would say how he would like

it to go if they don't even have a director for

it yet. Again, that's my issue is, yes, I understand

your point of, you know, hey, Steven Spielberg

is talking. I understand that, but if they don't

even have a director, if they're only at the

script stages, I can see wanting to give fans

a little teaser or something, but don't come

out and misuse your words or make a incorrect

statement or not word it the way it was supposed

to be worded or whatever else. say that they're

an alien fucking race because you're gonna get

shit like this with this news you're gonna get

people like me up in arms over it you're gonna

get other people you know up in arms over it

and like you said the project isn't even really

fucking begun at this point and it's like really

why are you even talking about it you moron well

i mean i mean he's got the script i mean so i

mean they have an idea of what the movie is going

to be about but it's going to go through changes

and things of that nature so i mean it doesn't

hurt to talk about it but I mean, it's just people

that want to bitch for the sake of bitching,

and it's like... I love turtles as much as anybody

else. I mean, turtles... I mean, when it comes

down to, like, say, the toys, I had as a kid...

Ninja Turtles were my big collection. I mean,

I didn't have a lot of Transformers, actually,

as a kid. I had more Ninja Turtle stuff as a

kid. I had every... Due to TFTO and Mike's stupidity,

the rest of this episode will be about Transformers.

Yes, it was come to my attention the original

file for Team Bottomless Variety Hour episode

12 had a fuck up in it, and I fucked it up. Because

I didn't have the original audio anymore. So

here's the re -edit. With whatever the hell this

next discussion's going to be, I have no idea.

I have little bubbles in me, but they come out.

Uh -oh. Let me hear bubbles. I think you're out

of your tushies. Mojo Jojo had me inside Rob

Paulson's butt! That's something you don't hear

every day. Oh, and also, to make a long story

short, I am at this point skeptical about ninja

turtles, while Paul is... open -minded about

it he's optimistic about it I'm skeptical at

best so that's essentially the bottom line for

the turtles discussion you just heard now we

are moving on It's rest in peace Transformers

Prime Optimus Prime's personality No, are you

fucking kidding me? Yeah, I Mean I agree. I don't

I don't think that the the Last episode in this

was all that great. I Haven't had a chance to

see it yet. So you know this whole story arc

is to bring in more of Optimus and Megatron.

I mean that was the whole point at the end of

season one when Optimus lost his memory he became

Orion Pax. It's to show you it's essentially

taking the first five chapters out it's not it's

not doing this but to me this is what it is it's

taking the first five chapters out of Transformers

Exodus where Orion and Megatronus had just met,

they were becoming friends, whereas in Prime,

they already had the friendship, they had the

dissertation, but now it's going back and they're

showing you, you know, in a different way what

this is, you know, I mean, it's a fucking story

arc. They're not going to continue this throughout

the whole fucking second season. They're going

to find a way to have Optimus become Optimus

again. It's like, oh god. I don't understand.

I don't understand why I'm gonna even say this.

Hold on. I don't exactly see how anyone can think

his personality is dead. It doesn't make sense.

I don't know. I mean, it's essentially as if

he's got amnesia. Nah, he doesn't anymore now,

though. I mean... Well, I haven't seen the new

episode yet. So, what I'm saying is, when they're

telling that story of him losing, you know, after

all the wisdom of the Matrix has gone out and

defeated all that shit, he essentially lost his

memory. He essentially had amnesia, and yes,

took him back to his previous form, but I mean,

they're not gonna keep it that way. I mean, Jesus

Christ. Well, they did it. They did it. I mean,

the last episode, he gets it all back. So then

why are people complaining that his personality

changes? No, but I don't know. I don't know either.

People just fucking piss me off. They just want

a bitch for the sake of bitching. Yeah. That's

what it boils down to. You know, I mean, and

yeah, it was hilarious because he had no personality

until this three -parter. Wait, what? Wait, what?

As Prime, he's always, he's always had all the

personality of a cardboard cutout with a sound

box attached. Curious that people want to complain

about that now when I didn't hear any complaints

during the first season, but okay. Whatever.

He had no personality. He had no personality.

Who's saying this to you? Uh, this is from General

Techno. Oh, God. No wonder they have Belki's

ass. Belki's ass? Yeah, fuckin' Techno. I can't

stand that dude. I don't absolutely hate him,

but his arguments are just like, shut the fuck

up. Here's the thing that makes me laugh. He's

all... I don't want to get too mean about him

or anything, because there's other people that

don't have the ability to watch Transformers

Prime because of the hub. We got in this kind

of tiff... him and several other people that

aren't in the United States and don't have access

to the hub we got into this little bit of a tip

because they're all asking for the torrents or

you know if anybody's uploaded it to YouTube

blah blah blah and I'm like you guys are exactly

why things like SOPA are created and they didn't

particularly like that um although that's why

SOPA was created you know I mean he watched it

um Techno watched it, uh, via somebody live streaming

it. Which is illegal! Yeah. I mean, it's... it's...

stupid, you know? I mean, people are gonna complain

about SOPA, like it's a bad thing, and then turn

around and justify the creation of it by doing

exactly why it was created. Give me a fucking

break! You know I mean and all these people are

like well I can't you know like we can't watch

it because we're in Canada And I'm like you can't

wait for it to come out on you know DVD They're

like what oh wait a year for it. I'm like so

you're willing to do illegal things Because you're

impatient Okay, that makes sense next time I

go into a you know an appliance store And I see

a big -screen TV that I want you know, but I

can't afford it right now. What else do you want?

steal it yeah you know I'll steal it but that'll

make it okay because I'm not patient enough to

save money and you know buy it myself I mean

give me a fucking break you know but that's exactly

why SOPA is created now I I oppose SOPA for a

completely different reason that's you know but

people want to do this whole thing you know you

know so you know stop SOPA it's evil Why? Because

it's going to stop you from illegally watching

things online. Oh, no. Stop breaking the fucking

law. I mean, I'll freely admit that I've torrented

things. I mean, I've done my fair share of that.

But I mean, I have no problem supporting and

paying for things. You know, everyone's like,

well, I'll buy it when it comes out. OK. Good

for you, you know, I mean I was watching Transformers

Prime and I was still paying for it on iTunes

I still I mean I still watch it on TV and I still

want to find it on iTunes so I can watch it on

in HD that doesn't mean I run off and Illegally

downloaded it. Well just in my own defense here

Yes, I don't get the hub and I do live in the

United States And if I want to get the hub, it's

going to cost for one to upgrade just one channel.

I have to get a whole different package, which

is going to cost me extra amounts of money, which

I won't even watch half those channels that are

in that package. I will torrent the show, but

however, I will also go back when it hits DVD

and go get it. Well, in my case, I'll get it

for free from Shot Factory for review, but you

know, The thing is, I still support the show.

That's why when it comes on every week now, I

check in with Get Glue. I'm still supporting

the show, even though I can't watch it. But it's

just one of those things where, where's the download?

Where's the YouTube video? I don't mind a torrent

of it, but we all know you're not supposed to

put that shit on YouTube. I mean, come on. You're

just not supposed to. I mean, it would be different.

A while ago, before Renegades got cancelled,

there was an official Hub GI Joe channel. They

were putting all the episodes up on YouTube under

their official channel. Now that's different.

The Hub can do what they want. If they want to

create a YouTube channel for a cartoon, that's

all well and good. Hubworld .com, which is their

website, they put... all 26 episodes of GIGO

Renegades on there for free. Most of the other

big network and even like A &E and all that stuff,

they put full episodes online. So, you know,

just because Transformers Prime doesn't have

an official full episode online release doesn't

mean, you know, I mean, Jesus, people are just

fucking stupid. Yeah, I mean, I understand, you

know, I mean, but, you know, people can still

get it. You know, they just don't want to wait

for it, you know, I mean you have you have I

mean There's a reason why you don't have it if

you could get it though. I would watch it on

TV like everybody else You know, you just can't

do that right now and that's that's understandable,

but the options are there for people to not do

things Illegally. Yeah, you know and it just

comes down to people not being patient enough

For the most part for the most part You know,

not impatient enough, and waiting for it to come

out on DVD, you know? And the funny thing is,

anytime I mention this, people are always like,

oh, you're American, blah, blah, blah. I'm like,

what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Just because I'm American, and I get it on my

TV channel, I'm not allowed to, you know, have

an opinion on this? I'm like, that's stupid.

You guys are still stealing. Well, you're American.

You don't have you don't know what it's like

not to get it. So what? That comes from who is

the one that does I can't remember who it is

I think I actually blocked them because all they

do is wait for me to Pick at something that I

say Mm -hmm, you know, I mean that I just you

know, so I'll say something and they just wait

for me to go off on so they can go off on me

and It's like give me a break. Come on, but all

right. Anyhow, let's do this thing cuz I got

my show in a half an hour Yeah, I know all this

time You're the one wasting time over there.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry
