About this Episode

The hosts review the final four episodes of Team Knight Rider, expressing frustration with the show's overall quality, pacing, and lack of continuity. The discussion covers the theft of an EMP device, a plot involving a televangelist and an earthquake machine, the Spy Girls team-up, and the series finale, Legion of Doom. The hosts analyze the underwhelming conclusion to the Mobius storyline, the absence of David Hasselhoff, and the lack of narrative closure.

and one car to get the job done. Now the foundation

for law and government has assembled five highly

skilled operatives and paired them with the most

advanced state -of -the -art vehicles. to take

on a new breed of Outlaw. They are Team Knight

Rider. Welcome to Beyond the Night brought to

you by the GCR and I'm one of your hosts TF1

Mike joining me is the on the music man. Hello

Hey, can we are we done yet? Seriously, do you

understand how bad this is folks? Do you understand

the seriousness in my voice when I say that we

did not want to sit down and record this crap?

Yeah I'm thinking we should have just left team

Knight Rider out of the Beyond the Knight podcast.

Do you do you realize, do you do you understand

that when we go back and listen to this, whether

it's six months or five months later, if these

if these feeds are still available, we'll be

like, why in the hell did we do this? Yeah, yeah.

It's just this show is just it's god awful. unwatchable

and you guys think we're kidding you guys kidding

there are numerous small moments that are really

really cool yeah and that are really really good

but that's like five percent the other 95 percent

of this series sucks it does suck And people

might ask us, well, if it's so bad, why are you

reviewing it? Why are you just saying it's the

same, you know, saying the same thing over and

over and over again? And then it's bad because

we actually watched all 20 after this episode

of the podcast, we will have watched all 22 episodes

of this crap. And I can only think of maybe one

or two, one to two that are actually good all

the way through. Yeah. Oh my God. Alright, so...

Let's dive into this, shall we? Yeah, let's go

ahead and get into it. Oh my god. Duke, work

out later. Need you now? Gotta hop on. Is there

anybody I can talk to about getting paid time

and a half for working weekends? No specs. New

marines. No respect for the opposite sex. Trek

let's go Like a morning a daycare center, where's

Erica I? Saw in the garage earlier. Yeah, that's

right. You told her to do a maintenance check

on cat She likes to get right on things All the

surveillance equipment and databases spontaneously

shut down. Two security guards thrown around

like rag dolls by some unexplained electrical

force. Executives at Miller Tech have never seen

anything like it. I have. X -Files. Third season.

Yes, Trek, and I'm sure it was a ghost. And fire

is evil, and a big burning chariot carries the

sun across the sky. They suspect sabotage. It's

one of the leading manufacturers of commercial

military software. Anyone from a business competitor

to a foreign power could benefit from Miller

Tech being shut down. First up is EMP. When the

team investigates a break -in in a military software

company, they discover that a device can render

electronic equipment useless is missing. Oh my

god. So... Where do we begin? Well, I thought

the... Don't know it's I guess I can say for

at least this episode they didn't borrow from

the original Knight Rider plots of any kind they

actually kind of stuck to their own Side of the

pie so to speak Are you kidding? This is the

one where all that is it I'm trying to think

is this the one that there's one that we'll talk

about today that has Oh no, that's the next episode.

That's the next one. Okay. No, it's... It's the

next one that borrows heavily from Knight Rider.

No, not this one. This one didn't. Yeah, it's

the next one that does. Yeah, it's the next one

that does. EMP was cool. It was alright. It's

just... After the previous 18 episodes, I'm just

like, oh my god. It's like... Okay, why you know,

we know we've sat in here and watched this stuff

and it's like, uh Can we just you know, I mean

I know what they were trying to do Was to bring

Knight Rider back. We all we know this we know

this, you know We've said it over and over again.

We've made jokes about TKR but there are just

episodes in this that were good and you know

that were bad like mike like if you want that

ninety five percent of it is just got off well

this is the one where uh... always differently

trucks companies are getting robbed to make the

cmp weapon yet it is this one it is where yeah

it is it is it is this one is this one where

All these different electronics companies are

getting robbed, except for one, because the final

key component was already there, and guess what?

It's not any of the men in the company, it's

the woman, of course! Yes. Oh my god, and...

Just... Just bad. That does remind you of Night

of the Phoenix, though. Yeah. Except the only

difference between Night of the Phoenix and this

is that Night of the Phoenix was a computer chip,

and this is a complete weapon. Yeah. And it was

a woman. The other one was a woman. Don't have

similarities there. This is, the pacing in this

episode is so slow. It takes them four, you know,

without commercials these episodes are like Between

20 and 23 minutes long and maybe 24 minutes long

something like that about 30 minute out commercials

24 minutes The first 12 minutes of this episode

took so long To get to where they had to go.

I was like oh my god. There's 12 minutes left

and oh my god hurry up already It's like They

fully embodied the whole oh the tortoise slow

and steady wins the race. No, not it's not in

this case at all, so We are gonna get to the

scanners. I was just gonna write track Track

is good Thank you Be afraid be very afraid I

know some nerds like that. I give guys like me

legitimately enjoy Star Trek a bad name It is

time to turn these scanners on and off. The only

good thing I wrote down about this was there

was a nice Car chase after the mission briefing.

I thought that was kind of cool. I was cool,

but that was about the only thing I wrote down

for it. Yeah for scanners off Oh, that's right.

That's what this episode had. It had Duke going

undercover and having to put up with this douchebag

of assistant to the boss. And I was hoping that

Duke would just punch that arrogant shithead

out. I was too, because I'm like, Duke, you're

a badass. Why are you taking this shit? Yeah,

really. And as I mentioned before but of course

it was a woman Crap there's 12 minutes left in

this episode boring What didn't you like about

it? It's the same thing. It's kind of the plot

was very slow there you know like we said and

We agreed upon the car chase was probably about

the only good thing out of it the rest of it

You had to watch, obviously, because you had

to take notes, but it's just no. Absolutely not,

no. So it's just awful. Yep, very much so. We

are going to move on to the next episode. So

no one's ever predicted an earthquake before

this. Well, psychics do all the time, but never

down to the minute. So this ransom guy, how do

you figure? Let me just say this. Yesterday,

I was an atheist. Today, I'm getting baptized.

You know what I mean? Well, guys, it's been fun.

Gotta go. Already? Up next is Apocalypse Maybe?

What the hell? When an quote -unquote earthquake

machine falls into the sinister hands of a depraved

televangelist, played by Rod McCrary, the team

must stop him before he levels Las Vegas. Hmm.

Flag must be really desperate. Apparently. Sorry,

Devin. I have to put that in, sorry. Sorry, Devin.

Sorry, Wilton. Sorry, Michael. Sorry, RC. Sorry,

Bonnie. Sorry, April. I would gladly watch a

million Knight Rider classic trucker episodes

over this. Yeah, I would, too. It's not even...

It's an earthquake machine. by some nut who preaches

on TV. It's like leading a double life, if you

think about it. Yeah, something like that. It's

just like leading a double life. I can't really

say any good things about this episode. I actually

just don't have anything here. Even if there

were a Scanners On and Scanners Off segment,

I just... No Yeah, I just know absolutely not

Yeah, and I mean even the synopsis looking on

team knight rider calm it's just I Just don't

I don't get why people would don't ever watch

this episode people it's not good What so ever

like I said you guys think we're kidding? Yeah,

we're not The only scanners off. No, I'm just

gonna make this one closer. It's a bad idea the

only scanners off note I had was Again boring

episode plus. We all know TV evangelists are

evil It's true I know I swear Joel Olsteen is

brainwashed half of the friggin world Anyway,

we're moving on to the next episode. I mean,

you two always get to go to the fancy embassy

parties and wear Vera Wang gowns and... Josie,

what do you want? Well, I just thought that maybe.

For change. I should seduce this guy. Look, I

think it's really important that we stick to

our strengths, okay? You don't think I could

do it? Of course you could. It's okay. I don't

mind. You can have this one. This guy's like

60. It's not always glamorous. April, you go.

Emma needs me here to keep watch. Oh, I'm sorry

spy girls Kyle agrees to cooperate with another

undercover agency to return a Stolen microfiche

to the government before a deposed dictator can

use it to assemble a dangerous weapon dun dun

dun This is like Charlie's Angels meets Knight

Rider, and it's done really really badly It is

so cheesy. It really is. It very much is. It's

like, why would you try to collaborate two shows

that have nothing to do with each other? In a

plot, in a plot. Yeah. That's just bad. That's

like taking... I don't know. That's like taking...

Spaghetti and calling it ravioli. It doesn't

work and That's and that's just an easy, you

know scenario think about it spaghetti string,

you know, the noodles are longer Ravioli you

guys get the rest but it's just no this doesn't

work and the plot I under again. I have to give

them an e for effort, you know to bring the series

back but All in all with a lot of these episodes

that we have been reviewing I think what Mike

we found maybe two that we like out of out of

22 of them. Yeah, so, you know, I just I can't

I Wish you guys I wish we had webcams because

I wish you guys could see the sincerity on my

face or sarcastic sincerity when i say that there's

just nothing here there's nothing here to support

this plot there's nothing here to support the

episode and if there are action scenes they're

far and few between yeah these last four episodes

just or at least the last three out of the four

they're just there and i know people are probably

tired of us saying that but they did like it

wasn't like they were even trying now you know

a lot of television in the nineties didn't try

but they tried more than this show every day

yeah uh... the only scanners no i had was all

two out of the three spy girls are hot this episode

is average ha ha ha ha ha ha ha you had the same

the final episode of the day and the final episode

of the series It is finally here. Thank God.

Yes Thank you for coming Don't mention it If

it wasn't for you, I'd be out of a job. And I'd

be in jail. My reasons for assisting you were

my own. Just who are you, anyway? There are more

important things to worry about. Mobius has probably

already tracked you to this building. How do

you know? He's been searching for me. Some of

his encounters with you were attempts to bring

me out into the open. If you knew Mobius has

been watching us... I know. I'm making myself

an easy target. Why if he's convinced I'm out

of the way, he'll turn all his energy towards

your team I'm waiting for some good news. The

fact is I can't stop him, but your team can come

on You have to give us something more than that

His plans are ambitious to say the least just

know this Everything he's done to you in the

past has been related obvious one What the hell

every furnace an electrical circuit in the building

is overloading Kyle. Yeah Where Superman when

you really need him because the final episode

of team Knight Rider is entitled Legion of Doom

Hello So, comic book moment? Yes, really, I know.

A mysterious presence warns the team about a

showdown with their archenemy Mobius, played

by David McCollum, after several of his allies

break out of prison. Okay, this episode was very

well paced. Beginning, middle, end. The ending

sucked all to hell, because we never got any

kind of closure, any kind of explanation, any

kind of anything. this mysterious figure it's

very interesting that they consistently misdirected

as potentially being Michael Knight because Kyle

even says well who's the greatest flag agent

ever and and Trek just kind of looks at him like

really? and this is this whole misdirection misdirection

a couple of things that are wrong with the plot

of the episode We never learn outside of the

fact of when Mobius actually is on Sky 1. We

learn what he wants, but we don't learn why.

Mobius has been in and out of the episodes the

entire series, depending on whatever episode

it is. Right. What I would have liked to have

seen Team Knight Rider do, get rid of all the

one -shot crappy episodes. So basically... The

first 15 episodes. Something like, you know,

whatever the, like, magnificent TKR, like EMP,

like, you know, all this stuff, all these episodes

that are just them going on missions. If they

would have stuck to a strict continuity, and

I know this is the 90s and 90s, television isn't

like television now. Right. If they would have

stuck from Fallen Nation to Legion of Doom. It

would have worked, actually. Mobius thing Weaved

in and out it would have worked a hell of a lot

better now Now this mysterious dark black clad

figure I'm so glad they didn't put a red scanner

for his eyepiece because that would have been

a dead giveaway So this mysterious figure has

his own reasons has his own whatever whatever

whatever for helping them out. We then get to

see Morbius' people break out of jail and go

back to him. We actually see Morbius leave, not

Morbius, Mobius, I'm sorry, Mobius. We actually

see him leave wherever his general area is, and

it is a 90s version of a hover around Dion. Are

you kidding me? It's a wheelchair, yeah. It's

a motorized... Well, I knew it was a wheelchair,

but I didn't know if what... Well, I'm saying,

I'm making a joke about the wheelchair. It looks

like it could be a 90s version of whatever the

hover rounds are now. It's a motorized wheelchair

that has powers of perception and can make people

just zone out as he goes by through an in -sky

one. He gets into the command center. You see

the mysterious figure they kind of face off with

words and then Mobius does something with his

wheelchair and the center console pops up and

This small little thing comes up that has a scanner

that says Ki TT. He's like, oh there you are.

You've been here the whole time I don't get it.

Well, I like the idea of the plot that Kit has

kind of been behind the scenes the whole time.

I like the reference. I think that's cool. I

think they did it right by making him this mysterious

figure that you have to guess who it is. After

that the episode goes downhill yeah That's like

that part when Mobius is in sky one is like the

last half of the episode the final like five

or six minutes worst part ever They they all

meet up at the gravesite of Michael night Apparently

it's empty and apparently some weird marking

mark wannabe afro wearing mofo shows up and says

yes but I am here to give you answers that you

need and then it ends yeah I don't like the I

didn't like that I mean I didn't like the fact

that David was not asked to come back for this

one yeah because he was the original Michael

Knight Yeah, cuz this guy is like well, I'm Michael

Knight at least I was was Okay Who are you now?

You know cuz you it just it they all just stand

there and they just look like oh You know, all

right, you know, and that's just it. It's just

like you said it ends Yeah It ends with no real

basically no real ending no I mean it would have

been cool I don't remember the guy's name but

the guy that originally played David Larry yeah

it would have been Larry Anderson I think Okay,

it would have been you know what I'm talking

about right yeah the very beginning of of Night

of the Phoenix Yes, even though it was Michaels

even though it was Dave Boyce dubbed over But

the guy that played that would have been cool

if they had actually gotten him to come back

and do that Come back for whatever. He looks

like nowadays. I don't know I haven't seen a

picture of him since Night of the Phoenix, so

I'm not sure right but it would have been better

than what we got and Like, they wait all the

21 episodes to even give us an inch of anything

to do with Mobius whatsoever. Right. And then

it ends on a cliffhanger because this show never

got picked up again. No. Okay, we're just gonna

go straight to 2008 because it's so much better

than this. Okay for the scanners I Already said

the kids been there the whole time and I'm pretty

much already said that we get no closure whatsoever

It's just left on the cliffhanger Yeah Quite

literally because isn't the Michael night grave

almost on a cliffside or isn't like when he shows

up the background is of a cliffside so They're

both figuratively and literally leaving us on

a cliffhanger. Yes jerks All right, so you're

gonna hear some ads and some other stuff from

GCR and then we're gonna come back with final

thoughts and ratings after this Hey key cast

listeners. Do you ever listen to Punisher body

count and think to yourself? This show would

be awesome if it had less toilet humor and was

not about the Punisher If so, join me, Emily

Williams, as I class up the Punisher guys on

Dane and Jake at Classy, or like the Oprah Book

Club of comics. You'll hear us discuss famous

works like The Dark Knight Returns and The Grove,

along with graphic novels no one else is talking

about, like Blue Monday and Blankets. You can

find us at daneandjakeatclassy .wordpress .com

or on iTunes. Are you looking for a weekly dose

of gaming news and retro? And check out off the

cuff available Fridays and key cast radio network

from the producers of XRG new name same We are

back and of course as always we give zero to

five kit cars or actually we I think we switched

to beasts I don't know. I don't even know anymore.

I don't even know anymore. I'm just gonna stick

it to kit cars EMP I'll give a one It was very

predictable um but it was even though it was

a boring episode there were like small parts

of it that i enjoyed i have to give it a one

as well yeah uh apocalypse maybe zero no kickars

no we all know tv evangelists are evil so Spy

Girls, for two out of the three that are hot,

I will give it three stars. I gotta give it three

Kit cars on that. Yeah, I'll give it three Kit

cars. For the one lone thing that I thought they

really accomplished well in Legion of Doom, I

will give it one star. One Kit car. Because I

thought what they did with Kit... And the whole

misdirection thing, I thought that was really

cool. Yeah. It just did not pay anything off

whatsoever. I give it a 1 on that because I really

think, like I said before, David should have

come back or something. Or if not David, the

original guy who played Michael Long. Yeah. And

that didn't happen. Do you remember, I'm not

trying to be insensitive here or anything else,

do you remember the movie where the kid, the

white kid painted his face black so he could

get into an African -American school? Yes, I

remember that, but I don't remember the name

of the movie. But you know what I'm talking about,

right? Yes, I do, yes. Okay, imagine this. Alright,

now, I know this didn't happen, but just imagine

this. Sure. Instead of the guy that we got. Imagine

if Peter Perros came back and said, I was Michael

- I'm Michael Knight, or I used to be. Oh my

god, Mike, no. Well, I can see why - Well. Street

Avengers, take it over. I know. Oh dear. Oh boy.

I'm sure that's not the worst thing I've ever

said on this show. No, and if I've made a crack

about Indians on the show, you know. How? Well,

the Indian war cry thing that I did on one of

the episodes. Oh yeah, that's true. I don't know.

I don't know. Alright. Thank you for joining
