We figured you'd say that. Kit, play that video

of Billy leaving the casino. I'm afraid I cannot.

they have been password protected. See ladies,

what happens in Vegas stays in kit. Hello and

welcome to Beyond the Night brought to you by

the GCR and I and one of your host TFU and Mike.

Joining me is Dion the Facebook Killer Man. It's

not my fault, folks. It's called... Facebook

is being stupid with their mobile crap and they

need to fix it plain and simple. If they'd stop

changing it, okay, there's my rant. No, really,

seriously, it's like, and I've had fully sighted

people tell me this, it's like one minute you

get used to their layout on Facebook and it doesn't

matter if you're visually impaired or not. you

get used to their layout and then they change

it again and then something breaks and then they

get lots of complaints and it's like okay we'll

fix it back to the way it was so yeah yep all

right we are here to recap night rider 2008 here

on beyond the night so get ready for attack mode

and we will be taking you beyond the night after

this Five bucks, she takes them out. No, she

saves with them first. Wow, this should be rated

X. Is this a sparring match or a mating ritual?

Both. I'm afraid I don't understand the dynamics

of the male -female relationship. And you probably

never will, Kit. Come on, he wants to learn.

We should teach him. See, the so -called sparring

session is how they say, let's play a little

How's Your Father without actually having to

say it. Why not simply ask for sex? It's a ritz

of desperation. And he should know. I did detect

a rise in hormone levels when Michael and Sarah

started hitting one another. Now you're starting

to get it. Not bad. Maybe if you put a little

more oomph into it. Like that? Is this another

example of an indirect request for intimacy?

She's straddling him. I see that's pretty direct.

Mr. Torres is approaching. Mike. Yeah? Briefing

in 10 minutes. You're going out. I need a shower.

Me too. Me too. Me too. Build your hormone levels

elevated with Zoe's when you hit on top of each

other. Does that mean that you also want to play

How's Your Father? No. This is all very perplexing.

All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is it,

the second to last episode of the podcast. As

I said in episode 48, Originally I was gonna

have this show go to 55 episodes and then I just

said screw it we're gonna do one grand finale

at episode 50 we're gonna talk about all things

Knight Rider and a big general discussion type

podcast but here today we are here to recount

Knight Rider 2008 as always we have favorite

moments least favorite moments favorite characters

least favorite characters episodes we love episodes

we hate and just other general thoughts on the

series altogether. So, alright, let's start off

with favorite moments for me. everything with

Kit and the rest of the characters. This entire

series, to me, was very heartwarming. The casting

was perfect. The characters were great. I didn't

dislike any of the core characters, meaning Mike,

Sarah, Billy, Zoe, Kit, obviously. thing. I guess

it really isn't a favorite moment, but it's kind

of interesting for the casting. The fact that

Batman and Ice from Top Gun are also Kit. Val

Kilmer did a damn good job as Kit. He did. He

did really well, and I'm really impressed with

Kit. They kept the heart for Kit. It really was

actually a good Thing because I think had they

changed that I think the show would have lost

a lot of viewership Oh, yeah, I think I'm gonna

have to viewership. I think also though kind

of on a sad note I think they should have stuck

with the original 22 episodes Kind of, you know

repeating what the original Knight Rider did

in 82 But you know, what are you gonna do this

is NBC that was then this is now but And I'm

I know that David is older and we talked about

this we talked about that in like the very first

Yeah, you know the very first episode for 2008

You know David is older and I would have actually

Liked to have seen the 2000 model and the 3000

model working side -by -side Yeah Yeah, it would

have been kind of cool other favorite moments

for me Any action scene the attack mode transformation

and turbo boost even though it was underutilized

very underutilized as much Anytime kit modified

his look to homage other classic mustangs or

classic cars That was awesome. Yeah, it was always

awesome. His Halloween costume was great in the

Night of the Living Dead episode. That was awesome.

One of the favorite moments for me was Alex Torres

actually getting killed. Hmm. I'm sorry. That's

just I shouldn't say that because I know it's

acting, but it's very true. It's like, OK, look,

Grayman was right. You should not have reactivated

Carr after he died. There's a reason that Carr

was disabled. Mm hmm. I mean, I like what they

did with car and having car return and having

Peter Cullen return. I like the the twist on

car. I like the big robot. That's what I'm saying.

That's the twist. You know, the the fact that

it, you know, it basically the AI for car is

basically needs a like he needs a driver in order

to. Function the way that he was supposed to

function. I absolutely love that right Mike tracer

was the original driver You know of car but they

wiped his memories and you know, the other thing

too is I would have actually Liked to have seen

an episode where? Mike is able to access Through

computer files everything that they wiped from

his memory Yeah, because obviously he had been

in Iraq He had been the first one to drive car,

and they wiped all that from him, and Greyman

warned him. He said, you know, he's gonna come

looking for you. Yeah, well. And Torres was a

pompous ass. Torres didn't exactly listen. No,

Torres was a pompous ass. And it's like, you

know, if you had listened to Greyman, you wouldn't

be in this predicament. Yep. What other are some

of your favorite moments from this series kit

voicing a woman and being himself Don't ever

do that again Because it actually in my opinion

it actually did show that a car could have a

bit of a sense of humor And I know the original

kit did obviously but right brought This one,

the 2008 kit, the Knight Industries 3000, brought

a little bit more out in that realm. Also, the

fact that kit could actually blind people. Yeah,

that was pretty awesome. I like the fact that...

In this one, we didn't use comlinks. Well, they

did. Did they? Did they use the watch? No, they

didn't use the watch, but they used the earwig.

They used the technology of today. So it's like

a comlink. It's like a comlink, but it's not

the watch. No, it's not the watch. I mean, people

have the time on their phones. They don't need

it on their wrists. Right. What's I'll have to

go back and try to dig this out and maybe for

the grand finale to see who actually voiced Who

was the female voice when kit spoke as a female

cuz I don't think I know I don't know which episode

was that I'm trying to even remember I don't

remember I'd have to look it up, but it was my

thing is thinking about sex. I know that much

Yeah, yeah. It's like you have a lot to learn.

Yeah, yeah. I know that the reason why I want

to know about the female voice is because I know

it's not Patricia and I know it's not Rebecca,

but how cool would it have been if it wasn't?

That would have been awesome! Yeah, exactly.

You know what would have been even cooler is

if they had gotten Pamela. No No, you know, I'm

talking about don't you? Yeah, no Come on You

don't need her in there. No. Well, she was in

two episodes Yeah, but Bonnie and Bonnie and

April were the damn mechanics to hell with two

were the guest star for two I mean if you're

really gonna throw somebody out there put and

Turkle in there put as the voice as the voice.

Yeah, so So least favorite moments? Honestly,

this series is damn good. I don't, I didn't find

anything that totally was like, oh my God, this

shows. I think there were some moments that you

and I spoke about that could have just been left

out. Yeah. Some of the plot, some of the plots,

but they weren't all bad plots. They weren't

like horrible plots. There were just some that

could have been okay, you did this plot why you

did it, you know Yeah, yeah, but I mean it wasn't

anything like Like TKR where we were just constantly

that was constantly like oh my god Hey, Universal,

you should have had Hasselhoff in that last episode

of TKR, just saying. Yeah, that one, yeah. It's

too little too late now. Yeah, it is. Favorite

characters, honestly? I like them all except

for Torres, sadly. Yeah, I'm right there with

you. I wrote down the core cast, Mike, Sarah,

Charles, Billy, and Zoe. I could not stand Torres,

because Torres was this pompous ass. Who thought

he knew everything inside and out about flag?

Yeah Well, no, it wasn't flag then was it or

was it? Well, it was night. It was night. Yeah

night So so it was night research when he was

there and then when he died it became it, you

know They they returned the flag. I liked Carrie

Even before you know, I I loved Carrie even up

till the fact that she had to retire Yeah, I

did like that Even though in this series gets

massive points for having fucking shaft as her

father I Wouldn't looked at that and I'm like,

that's just awesome And I didn't know that was

really him I thought it was just some actor,

you know somebody else know that was really shaft

The only reason why I know is because I saw the

Samuel Jackson movie and they gave him a cameo

in that. Right. That's the only reason why I

know. Least favorite characters, obviously Torres.

I mean... We've said enough about him so much.

Yeah, well yeah. And I wrote down, you know,

some of the other villains of the week. There

were a few, there weren't immediately, there

are very few but there were some that like that...

the bank job seriously you're gonna break into

the bank for mob names come on that's just yeah

um i mean other than that there really aren't

any too many you know characters that we could

hate on in this because it mainly mainly centers

around the core cast it does um sarah i i kind

of like the fact that they dug into, I think

they had dug into Sarah's past a little bit.

They had dug into Charles Grayman's past a bit.

They dug into Mike's past a bit. More than once.

More than once. They dug into Mike's past more

than once. Yeah. I mean, that was the whole box

of the series. There is one note that I wrote

down and I said in the note, I said, I think

Hasselhoff should have appeared in more than

just Prometheus. Yeah, because I know I guess

during this filming they could only get him for

that one But everybody was wanting him back in

the show. He was the one that made it You know,

and I guess it had to do with some scheduling

conflicts and it was the same for William Daniels

He would be he would have been on board from

what I heard or read Hadn't other scheduling

conflicts not been You know troubling him so

yeah For episodes we hate, I honestly only have

three that I wrote down. Exit Light, Enter Night,

Fight Night, and Fly By Night. Those are the

three I wrote down. Those are the three of the

final five after Night to King's Pawn. See, here's

the problem with this series. It's not the series'

fault. It didn't get a chance to breathe. NBC...

And it's not Gary's fault either. Gary Scott

Johnson's fault. No, it's not his fault. No,

no, no. It's the executives at NBC and it's the

executives at television networks in general

right now and even back then. Unless something

takes off and has massive ratings and makes them

massive amounts of money back, they will... Shit

can it immediately? Well, it's just like night

rider 2000. They said oh, it's it's great ratings

This is good, but we're not gonna pick it up

because they were talking about For night rider

2000. They were talking about doing an actual

series They were eating from the movie. Yeah,

I don't think that would have worked Yeah, but

no for this for this series here. I agree with

you. They did not give it a chance to really

breathe And expand to what it would have become.

I think it would have been an awesome series

Yeah, cuz see here. Here's the thing. You gotta

look at it this way And I think I told you this

I'm gonna told you this off air you might have

but what's up? You you you have to look at this

series as not necessarily a copy of the original

but a direct homage to the original casting you

have Michael Knight jr. You have tracer as the

Michael Knight character. You have Sarah who

I would say she's kind of the Bonnie Jr. Well,

yeah, she's more Bonnie than April because she

has more of the technical. I would say Zoe's

a close April. Billy not quite. Well, Zoe is

a close April. I mean, she's not she's a lot

smarter than April was as far as character goes,

but. I'm trying to make all these things fit,

damn it. Billy, apparently white men can't jump.

I would say Billy is what would happen if RC3

was a nerd. Seriously, because Billy doesn't

have the muscle like RC did, but I'm trying to

make all this work. So obviously we got Michael

Knight, we got Sarah as Bonnie, we got Zoe as

April, we get Billy is a nerd version of RC3.

I consider Billy kind of a class clown, if you

will, because there were times that RC - Yeah,

but how many times did Mike take Billy out into

the field? Not a lot. Michael Knight took RC3

out into the field at least three or four or

five different times. RC3 was the Street Avenger.

Billy ain't no damn Street Avenger. That's how

they met. He's the internet revenger. Here's

the thing. Mike is obviously Michael Knight.

Sarah is Bonnie. Zoe is somewhat of an April.

Billy is somewhat of a nerd version of RC3. I

would consider Charles as a Devin. That was what

I was going to say. And Charles is Devin. What

the show really did well was they went and said,

hey, look, we're reinventing your childhood for

the audiences of today. Yes, you can still have

your childhood back in the 80s with the Trans

Am and with that original cast, but here's something

bright, shiny, and new. for uh... you know if

if you ever had any kids are you know i mean

you know people that you know grew up on it like

as they grew up in the original you know that

we could pass this one on to our kids even though

we would also pass on the original to our kids

as well so right they could look at it from both

perspectives of both sides yeah exactly and they

could say okay well i like this series i like

all i like all four seasons of the series of

the original but then they could go and look

at two thousand eight and say well this is even

cooler Because they still kept up with the original

premise of Knight Rider. Yep, and Don't care

what anybody says that theme song is bad. You

know, I Really when I first heard the theme I

actually was expecting Stu Phillips to get involved

Here we go with the Phil. Oh, hey wait. No, no,

no, just Phillips just peak just knowing just

Phillips because Phillips obviously wrote with

Glenn the original theme song Right. Um, I was

I was thinking that they would have asked Stu

Phillips to kind of come back and and do Something

of a modification to the original 80s theme,

but they didn't and when I first heard the theme

song I'm like, okay. Yeah, this is cool. But

then you had that rock Kind of premise to it

and then when you explained it to me when I told

you I think it was off -air as well as on -air

When I said I didn't like it. I didn't like it

and then you were like wait just You know, here's

how this works. And then when I started looking

at it and I went back and listened to it and

I'm like Yeah, this makes absolute perfect sense

I told you so well because I didn't think it

would work because you're you know when we heard

Knight Rider originally It was just kind of a

sci -fi theme which this is too, but it's updated

It was updated I wasn't sure if I had I would

like the newer version of the theme That's what

that was my thing. Yeah. Well see here's the

thing okay ever since Phillips and Larson made

the original There have been tons of people tons

of artists that have put it into their own damn

songs and we tried to back Right tried to make

it cool again, etc, etc, etc the 2008 theme right

takes the original beat for the first i think

it's five or six seconds or however long it is

you know you know yeah it it takes the original

beat and gives you what you know what you remember

and then it basically you know puts a boot in

your ass and says hey it's time to rock out let's

go this is something new this is what you love

and now here's the new part and it's i don't

think because i'm i'm not a fan of rap music

i don't think i would have liked a night rider

2008 theme if it was a total rap song But that

it basically homages the original theme and then

takes it on its own with the guitars and everything

else, making a rock theme version out of it is

absolutely brilliant. And it fit the series because

if you listen to the theme and then look at what

the hell happens in this series as far as the

action, oh yeah. That was the best choice they

could have made. I know you're not a fan of rap

music, but I do know that two rap artists actually

took the song the original 80s tune and they

put it in as samples and I thought that was kind

of cool, but you know, but this theme here like

you said You know, they take the original it's

like, alright, you know this theme you recognize

the tune now, let's do this Wham let's hit you

hard with something you've never heard before

and still keep it Original but let's but let's

add a little flavor to it And like I said, I

did not think I'd like it when I first started

I'm like, I'm not impressed. I don't know what's

to Phillips did or whoever wrote it, but I'm

not impressed But then when I go back and listen

to it, I'm like, okay, this is growing on me

I can I can dig this this makes perfect because

it's a new generation It's a new generation for

people who may have never even heard of Knight

Rider. Yeah, exactly And that's been my whole

point all along, not just to you, but to the

listeners and everybody else. Like I said a second

ago, you can still have your childhood, you can

still have your Knight Rider, but at least be

open -minded to a series that basically takes

advantage of all the... Even in 2008 when this

series was being made, all the technology they

were using in that is still relevant right now,

six years later. you know we've we've got touch

screen everything we've got voice print analysis

everything you know so i mean for a show that

only lasted seventeen episodes which should have

been longer season two three or four whatever

you know uh... the technology over six years

has really held up so that's a good thing where

as you look at uh... i would say from eighty

six to about ninety The time that the classic

ended and going into the 90s, technology was

still evolving and changing back then. And it's

still evolving and changing now. But there's

more of a difference. But it's changing faster.

Exactly. It's changing faster now. And there

was more of a difference in what they could do

back then. in 1986 and then fast forward four

years to 1990. You know, whereas now you fast

forward from 2008 to now, it's like, hey, all

this work, it's still here. We're just improving

on it every year. Right. But overall, like I

said before, I love a lot of the plots. I love

I love I know you didn't particularly care for

this part, but I love how they Homage and also

made it original of how Mike Got shot. I didn't

understand it at first Then I had to explain

it to you Thinking okay. Well the reason the

reason I didn't understand it was okay. Were

they going to kind of do the same thing? Not

not the whole casino thing because you don't

want to play that whole plot again. You don't

want to do that. Oh, no What I what I didn't

change, okay? Why would you why would you be

on assignment and? Then get shot That was that

well, wait a minute. That was my whole that's

where I got confused You know cuz he's kind of

way he wakes up and he's like, what did you do

to me? Right, you know and here's explaining

she's explaining your Mike Tracer is no longer

dead. He's dead. Yeah But see here's the thing

you're saying because he was on assignment it

confused you Yes. Michael Long was on assignment.

He was, you know, security for the casino and

the dude there. But he was shot by an enemy.

That's the difference. Okay, that's the difference,

but yeah. But see, here's the thing. What are

they gonna have? You know, are they gonna have

the chick that was in that episode kill him?

No. It makes more sense to make it an FBI cover

-up, because technically, if you look at Michael

Knight Sr., Michael Long's life, his entire life,

is a cover -up once he becomes Michael Knight.

Yeah, exactly. It's a mystery, yeah. It's homaging

how Sr. went out while making it its own thing.

I guess that's the whole point here, is that

the original... The 2008 series can homage the

original all at once, and that's all well and

good for us longtime fans. But it also has to

give something new and a different twist on certain

things for the new fans. Right. It's a good thing.

And it is. I mean, I want to explain it. I was

like, OK, that makes sense. Because, like I said,

and you know, just like you said in the original

series, it was shot by Tanya Walker. And then,

you know, he becomes Michael Knight. And then

in this one he shot by Carrie Ravai, you know

in 2008 he Mike Tracer shot by Carrie Ravai.

It's all over the news We got to give you a new

name Michael trait Mike Tracer no longer exists.

He's dead You know, so So there you go, yeah,

all right any other final thoughts on the 2008

series sir Not really just the fact of I know

we've covered a lot of things I think that the

series should have lasted longer I wish that

NBC like we said a few minutes ago had given

this an opportunity to breathe and an opportunity

to expand I Really don't think there should have

been a reboot the way it was timed I think that's

what kind of caused its downfall Yeah, I really

agree. I really think the reboot caused its downfall

I know that some networks will do like five episodes

of a show just to see if viewers like it Okay,

we got these five episodes. Check this out. All

right, so we have ten more in the can already

done Yeah, so here's ten more of them. Oh, we

still like it Okay, so we do we now we now we

turn this into the rest of the season. So here's

season one Everybody still likes it. So then

we'll do two three and four or however many seasons

people want and until people get tired of it

Or if the network just sees that the viewers

have just declined Enjoy in in the viewing of

the show. See I think Knight Rider 2008 came

in a time where The world the the world of television

watchers wasn't ready The series is amazing.

It's great The problem is the model back that

now networks now like NBC ABC CBS Fox They are

now understanding how television nowadays should

work take cable channels like AMC with Breaking

Bad or What's another one TNT TNT with Rizzoli

and aisles or or Dallas or USA with white -collar

right all the all the all the cable networks

run on this five to ten episodes Season run or

midseason run and they break it up summer winter

fall spring whatever so you have the first half

of the season in one fell swoop first five episodes

and you come back later in that same year and

do the remainder of that seasons episodes then

night rider two thousand eight came at a time

where that model wasn't quite fully accepted

or adopted uh... wasn't no i really think not

necessarily saying they could bring the show

back now but if they were to go back to the well

and put this uh... even if they put it back on

NBC, I mean, I know Universal has the rights

to the franchise, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

If they put it on NBC and they did it in the

business model of, you know, season two starts

here, first five episodes run from June 1st to

July. seven i'm just pulling dates out of my

but here and uh... you know i'm just giving examples

and then right the next five episodes air uh...

november first uh... december seconders you know

something to look at that effect yeah and it

would stick would succeed now i understand that

the the advertising I think Ford dropped the

ball on that because it was not cost effective.

It was actually Ford that was advertising it

first and then they just kind of backed out slowly

from it. Yeah. And so, you know, Ford kind of

dropped that. And then NBC, because they weren't

getting the numbers that they wanted, the number

of episodes. fluctuated and everything else and

it just it wasn't a good time as much as I love

the series and it's amazing if it had waited

a year or two for it to come out or hell instead

of Instead of it being the instead of it being

26 years after the original series They could

have waited until the 30th anniversary in 2012.

That would have been awesome. Yeah, that would

have been awesome. Overall, Knight Rider 2008

is an amazing series for what it is. There are

a lot of things to like about it. There are a

lot of... As a super fan of Knight Rider, I saw

a lot... I caught a lot of stuff re -watching

this that homages the original 1982 series because

this is... Not a reboot. This is a direct continuation

of the original series. And that's what everybody

thought this was going to be was a reboot of

the show. They thought this was a reboot. Even

though I watched, you know, when this came out,

people were like, well, this is a reboot. It's

a reboot. No, it's not a reboot. It's a continuation.

You know of the show of the original show. No,

there's not right now There's not the law of

the foundation for law and government not right

now, but there's night research and that's pretty

close enough You know, this has been updated.

They're doing different things. They're trying

different things You know things of that nature.

So what I like about this series too is You see

kind of things that are going to happen in the

episode. So you see kind of a little bit of what's

happening. Then you go to the theme song and

then you go to the rest of the show. I like that

because it kind of reminds me of when TV used

to be when they would when they would do that

with certain shows. Whereas in the original show,

you saw clips of what was that episode. Then

you have the theme song. Then you go into the,

you know, entire episode. Yep, absolutely. So,

um, honestly, I don't think there's too much

more to say. Um, great show. If you guys haven't

seen this, like Mike and I are telling you, I

mean, if you guys think we're making this up,

we're not, we're really not go, go, go buy it

on DVD. Catch it on iTunes as well. Catch it

on iTunes. I think Netflix has it. Do they not?

No, they don't. They don't. I don't think so.

Last time I looked, they didn't. Unless they

decided to grow a brain. But grab the original

series from iTunes. Grab the original series

from Hulu. uh just anywhere you can watch it

i think amazon i know amazon has this stuff but

also get the 2008 series get them both watch

them both and you will just see how in 25 to

26 years they have evolved you know this is not

a reboot and what i think a photo of justin bruning

He did the thumbs up, kind of like David Hasselhoff

did in one of the photos with Kit. He did the

thumbs up with Kit. And I thought that was kind

of an homage to the series, too. So that was

neat. Yep, absolutely. So all in all. And Mike,

this may just kind of I don't know for doing

five kit cars or not at this particular. Yeah,

we can. I give this series even though it didn't

get a chance to breathe. I have to give it five

kit cars I really do because I can look past

a lot of the villain of the week stuff Because

that's one see that's the thing here. There wasn't

much of it though That's the thing right, but

I can look past that because it was very small

and it wasn't repetitious It wasn't repetitive

Kind of like the you know, like you said Mike

as you know, Mike Mike Knight jr. Yeah You've

got dr. Grayman is kind of a Devin Yep, you've

got Billy is and Zoe is April Billy is a geeky

RC right and Sarah is Bonnie Bonnie. So I like

that I love that they kind of kept it's a family

knit group Kind of like they did in the original

series. I love that. It's a family knit group

They did a very good job with this. I hope I

Mean and I kind of like you I hope that they're

able to bring this back again, but maybe give

it more of a push Because they didn't really

get a chance to really get it off the ground

at first They really didn't and I was hoping

that they would have Yep I Hear you writing you're

looking at there was there was a second season

campaign, but that's that's died down That was

a while ago. Yeah, I was after the first season

was done. They were actually Campaigning for

season on NBC and a lot of fans wanted that Yeah,

it's not I would have bought that second season.

Trust me. Oh, yeah. Yeah most definitely Alright,

orders from me. Your reasoning is correct. You
