About this Episode

In this episode, the hosts review three entries from the fourth season of the original Knight Rider series: "Knight Racer," "Knight Behind Bars," and "Knight Song." The discussion covers the plot similarities of "Knight Racer" to earlier episodes, the background-noise quality of "Knight Behind Bars" despite its unique SPM lighting, and the standout performance of RC3 in "Knight Song," which features guest star Tom Sullivan. The hosts also touch upon the musical legacy of the show, their appreciation for the 2008 reboot, and share their final ratings for each installment.

A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of

a man who does not exist. Michael Knight, a young

loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the

innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world

of criminals who operate above... Hello and welcome

to Beyond The Night, brought to you by the GCRN

and Audible .com. I am your host, T .O .J. Mike,

and joining me is NeonTheMusicMan. Hello. Hey.

Today we're going to be reviewing, this time

I will get it right, three more episodes of Knight

Rider Classic Season 4. Yeah, I was going to

look for some news and stuff. Do you have any

news? I really don't have any. Yeah. You know,

I mean, for Don Peek, but I don't know if you

want to... Yeah, you can mention that. Don Peek,

for those of you who are into his music, they

will be releasing four more CDs this summer.

You can go to Hitchcock -media, H -I -T -C -H

-C -O -C -K -Media .com They're not out yet.

You can get his previous work that he's done.

with the Knight Rider series that he produced.

But they will be releasing four more CDs. And

one of those CDs that is rumored to be released

is the Goliath episodes. So I'm going to be very

excited to hear those this time around. Awesome.

Yeah. Very, very cool. So right now that's about

it anyway. Yeah, you know what? What makes me

so mad about the Knight Rider franchise is NBC

pretty much dropped the ball on the ratings with

the 08 show, and the 08 show was good. At least

in my opinion, it was good. No, no, no. Let's

not get into a debate about that. I'm not. I

was actually going to say when 2008 came out,

the ratings were high. Right, but as the show

progressed I saw a complete draw like NBC hardly

ever advertised the show right one time I ever

saw them advertise it was on the day on the night

It was supposed to air right, you know, they

dropped it for drive. They just dropped the whole

ball What I understand is if something is dumb

and ignorant and stupid and moronic is it arrested

development which ended in 2006 can come back

and Netflix can pick it up and pick it up and

blah, blah, blah. Why can't people pick Knight

Rider back up for a week? Because it was a damn

good show. I don't get it. And Mike and I had

talked about this off the air, you know, before

we started this podcast and I'm just going to

mention it. And I said, think about this. I said,

you know, you had the original Knight Rider that

ran from 82 to 86. And that was four years and

then we didn't see it for another 20 some years

not including TKR Yeah, um, you know, I said

not including that series, but then you have

2008, you know or you know, we both said we both

agreed that there 2008 was good And I actually

did finally go back and watch that and it is

good I just part of it I guess to me was the

change in it and I guess I didn't like that,

but that's another story for another time Yes,

um, but Also will agree with one statement you

made TFG one and that was they should have ended

at episode 12 Knight to King's Pond Knight to

King's Pond which had car in it and then decided

from there What was gonna happen? Yeah So with

that we're gonna have kit hit the turbo boost

button and we're gonna end in today's episodes

Sabotage, Michael, I'm positive. Who? I killed

John just as sure as if I shot him. Wait a minute.

You know what could happen when he got behind

a wheel? Well, it could happen to you next. Michael,

an explosive device set to blow the moment you

lose motion. Michael, bail out. And whoever was

behind it tried to kill me. You mean the flyer

was sabotaged during the race by a gunman? First

up today is a night racer someone tries to kill

Michael after he qualifies to drive for an independent

racing team plagued by a series of quote -unquote

accidents We get to see him out of kit Yeah,

but still yeah, no I see the plot and I don't

see the plot. Well the whole plot is is that...

was it... basically it's a rehash of Brothers

Keeper but instead it's best friends who think

that... Elena is their daughter, blah, blah,

blah, when in fact she's actually the other guy's

daughter. It's this whole family affair thing,

and I don't care for it. I originally thought

that this was one of the episodes that I could

always watch. I originally thought that this

was one of the ones that I always remembered,

and it was. And like I mentioned last week about

at some point in any of these 80s shows, they

usually just kind of point out, hey, this is

the villain. That's what they're doing in this

and I don't like it. Why I said I did lie You

know, I didn't like that. They didn't point it

out this week I don't like that they they basically

all but hit you up over the head with it because

every scene that Mac and Oh Christ what's his

name doing Wayne Wayne? Yeah, every scene Mac

and Wayne are in as quote -unquote best friends

I already could tell what the whole plot was

because When even said it well you stole her

away from me or whatever it was right about about

his daughter Well, no about elena's mother. Um,

yeah, you know, they make the whole joke of oh

you wanted that department Well blah and I I

just don't care for it at all Well, you know,

there was actually a third villain behind that

really there were actually two people but one

You didn't you maybe only see that one person

twice Maybe three times what the shooter? No.

The guy in the, the guy in the, you know, that

lives on the boat. Yeah, that was the shooter.

Yeah. Um, the guy that lives on the boat and

he, you know. Yeah, but he was hired by Wayne.

So that's what I'm saying. The guy in the boat,

um, Lar fleas or whatever the hell his name is.

Green Lantern fans would get a kick out of that.

Yeah. Uh, Fred Olarani. Yeah. Yeah. He's essentially

a hired gun. He he's a hit man. He's not really

yes He is a villain, but he's not the one behind.

He's not the one behind everything pulling the

string right that's Wayne and it boiled down

the plot just It wasn't really there. It wasn't

really oh Not like you said it was a family affair,

and you know it was it's kind of a rehash of

what Brothers Keeper was Yeah, pretty much Alright,

let's get to the scanners Alright, let's turn

these scanners on I love them. I do love the

mechanic training trying to get under kids hit.

I thought that was hilarious That was funny and

I also like the same mechanic that was trying

to ask Michael does your car talk? Yeah I love

I love Michael's answer. It's so funny That bottle

of bubbly just went to hosing down the crew The

best way to end an episode that was it just fade

out Yeah, and like I said before I remembered

this episode as soon as I saw it one of the more

memorable one -off episodes in Knight Rider,

but at the same time I just Really can't get

into it. Yeah, I just don't care about the plot.

I mean, I mean the characters are great and the

action with the race is great. The whole thing

of Michael basically getting trained by Kit as

he's qualifying. I thought that was cool. That

was cool. But other than that, overall, this

episode just isn't that. And again, like I kind

of said last week with last week's episodes,

there's nothing here for me that I can... There's

no what the fuck moments. There's no, oh my God,

this is the worst thing ever. My god, it's raining

from season two You know the same notes the bubbly

popping on RC Devin and Bonnie and that was kind

of funny You know kit kind of starring again

for himself Michael being a smartass and you

know about You know kit talking and things like

that. That's really pretty much it I mean, there's

not a whole lot of things to say about this particular

episode Yeah, no, not really. So let's move on

to the next one These girls get out, commit crimes,

and then go back into jail. One down, two to

go. Sounds like these people waste anybody who

get in the way. Are you into doing something

a little unusual? I'll be close. Up next is Night

Behind Bars. Michael discovers that a prison

inmates were used to steal security plans for

a hotel that is hosting a defense conference.

Really? Ah, yes. This episode, while kind of

cool, I find it to be one that is mostly used

as background noise. Yeah. Yeah. Mostly gymnastics.

Olympics, anyone? Next thing you know is Zordon's

gonna pop out alpha. We need five teenage heroes.

Oh Dear oh my god Was it just me or was Julie

Mickey No, she wasn't I don't think she was but

it was more or less of the and she wasn't playing

dumb It was more of a scared role. But at the

same - Yeah, she's scared. But there was times

in there where I thought I could have sworn that

she sounded like a little bit like - No, no,

no. I don't mean Mickey sound. I mean like that

actress when she was in the other episode, when

she wasn't playing Mickey. Yeah. You know, that

one. Night strike. Yeah. Yeah, night strike.

I thought that the - could have sworn that that

was the same person but uh... it's not this episode

basically serves to say hey we're not going to

give david dalton his own series but let's put

women in the david dalton role nothing's really

wrong with that uh... you know i'm i'm not a

sexist paid for the most part but it's one of

those things shut up he's the sexist pig i am

not don't listen to him It's recorded This episode

is if you look at Julie's stunts, they're the

same damn stunts that David Dalton did right

Thank you. You're right. It was kind of the same

thing. Oh I love Don Peake. Don't get me wrong.

I could have sworn I heard reused David Dalton

music for mouth of the snake when Julie was doing

her stunts. No, so they Huh, no, I could have

sworn Maybe no That was all composed new material.

I don't know I'm not saying it's a bad thing,

I'm just saying - No no no, I understand what

you're saying, but no, that was - I'm not saying

it's a bad thing for them to reuse a piece of

music at all, I'm not saying that, I'm saying

that because this episode - It sounds like it

was reused, I can see where you're coming from,

but no, it was all re - it was all, um, written

material, new music, new everything. Now, you

know, maybe some of the, you know, the way it

sounds, I can see where you're getting that.

You know would be reused from mouth of the snake,

but no Because and the only reason why I say

that is because as I said before They're basically

making this episode to be Oh Julie is the next

David Dalton as far as her stunts and abilities

right jump up and Because that's what David did

right exactly Anything about the plot on this

one It's one of those things that are obvious

because they describe the plot and feet in great

detail at the beginning. Yeah, I Just like you

said background noise Pretty much. Yeah It's

what this could be used for so pretty much you

have to if you have housecleaning put this on

and you're you you've got some company There

you go. All right, we're gonna get the scanners

It's time to get to the scanners the one awesome

thing about this episode and I think I could

be wrong about this But I think it's the only

episode throughout season 4 that this ever happens.

Oh snap SPM at night is freaking awesome. Yes,

it is I nearly forgot about that kit gets all

kinds of red under lighting and he gets blue

under lighting and it's It's really cool. Yeah

Yeah So freaking cool. That's awesome Another

episode where the team gets to be in the field

for the most part minus Devin, right? That's

cool. Right, right This is at the end of the

episode when Jason fell into the water mm -hmm

Jason guy was on wipeout. He'd have a massive

headache I liked being in the water. I liked

the one scene and it was kind of funny where

Kit is talking to this runner oh yes and you

know she's like fat wins and you know pain wins

I'll just become a nun and you know yes she stumbles

into the lawyer and then you see that love scene

and plays the music and stuff like that and I

just thought that was I just thought that was

really hilarious yeah that was I love the end.

The foundation dry cleaning fund. Ha bloody ha.

That was awesome. As far as scanners off for

me, it seems the warden is, I could have sworn

the actress that plays the warden in this. I

think I've seen her before in other episodes.

I don't know. I seem to remember her, but she

is in this one. This this character of the warden

is way too vicious. That was the idea. I know

that was the idea, but it just... I don't know,

I just didn't... But I agree with you. It was

too vicious, yeah. Alright, let's... Any other

thoughts you have for either scanners on or off?

The fact that... You know, you know, we we still

see kit doing his usual things and stuff like

that for scanners on scanners off I kind of agree

with what you said and we've we've kind of summed

that up. So no, not really You have any idea

who did this to him? I only see voices. He came

back to help rebuild this neighborhood and he

could use our help. But he's not here and I'm

not gonna let you search this place. I'm gonna

push you to the breaking point. Now you can count

on that! Lovely day, officer! Lovely day! And

the last episode of today is Dion's favorite

episode of the entire series, Night Song! Well,

we have two special guests in this episode. Yes,

we do. We have Charlie. I forget who plays him.

Charlie Connors. Yes, and we have the new addition.

Yep. As the kids. A childhood friend of RC3's

is involved with a blockbusting real estate developer.

I was trying to prevent the opening of a nightclub

that could revitalize RC3's old neighborhood.

I do like the whole plot of them going back to

Chicago. I do like the whole plot of them referencing

Junkyard. Not Junkyard. Night of the Juggernaut.

Night of the Juggernaut, yes. I do enjoy them

referencing all that stuff. I thought that was

great. uh... this is basically an rc episode

it really is i think this is one of those episodes

were rc three gets to shine in this because you

know michael says all right you you've earned

the right to become a part of flag just remember

one thing this is flag business right yeah and

you know overall i really like the plot i thought

it was a great plot thought it was interesting

Even though if you really boy, you know, you

know, like I always say if you really boil it

down, it's just You know a real estate plot,

but it was still very interesting to see it play

out and and everything else so notice again We

have a woman as the main as the main string polar.

Yeah Nothing wrong with it, and I'm not sexist,

but you know, right No, we actually do we see

and I don't know who played her I don't know

if she's been in anything else, but she played

G Sanford Yeah for G Sanford and enterprises

But we see the main we see her as the string

puller in this particular episode while Keith

Was the muscle man with some other with some

other men? You know and things like that. So,

you know and of course You know, we see new addition,

which is kind of cool I will play that specific

song on my shows, but you know at any rate You

know, like you said, this is an RC3 episode Michael

is there You know Michael is there Bonnie is

there but I do like one thing In one particular

scene and I'll mention that in scanners on already

then let's go ahead and get there Your timing

is excellent, but your choice of percussion instruments

is going to cause some conflict. Well, we need

percussions, man. We need a beat. Then consider

using a garbage can cover. That sound is too

tensile. We need bass, all right? Right. Bass.

Hey, you can talk, but can you sing? I don't

know. I never really tried. Not even in the car

once? I'm afraid not. Listen, listen to this.

One, two, three. You're a better drummer than

you are a singer. Yeah. Perhaps I can be of some

help. Alright, let's turn these scanners on.

Charlie, you're doing great! Yes, I know, it's

an amazing skill, I thought. Charlie driving

kit that was just awesome. Yeah, that was so

awesome I think it's interesting that kit can

get down with his bad self What do you got? Goodbye

officer what the You just see you know, you know,

you see you see the officer just standing there

like whoa, there's a blind guy driving a car

Where did that come from? You know, obviously,

like we said, new addition interacting with Kit

and things of that nature. It was this was very,

very awesome. Yeah. Yeah. I really. Oh, it just.

Also, the other thing that I liked was that.

Michael. You know, because it was actually said

in a YouTube thing that I saw was actually said

that they said that David could not or not David,

but other people could not drive kit. But yet

they allowed Charlie to do this. And I was very

surprised. And I thought, OK, but they wouldn't

allow the other people that were playing in the

Foundation for Law and Government to drive. So.

You know, yeah, it would take away from the whole

angle of one man in his car. So yeah, but I you

know, I kind of see the point of this, you know,

I saw the point of, you know, that that particular

reason being said or that particular role. But

Charlie, Charlie Connors was awesome in this

episode. And folks, yes, before you start asking

me if Charlie Connors was playing a blind guy,

no, he's really blind. Because people have asked

me that is he is he really blind or was he just

playing a blind character? No, he's really blind

So there you go He was actually He was actually

like It lists even though it says Charlie Connors

in the show on Not read or online at least his

name is Charlie Collins, but his the actors name

is actually Tom Sullivan He's been on another

show that we both know. I don't know if you ever

watched it, TFG -1. What's that? Highway to Heaven.

Interesting. Yeah, um, yes, you're right Tom

Sullivan was He needed to have a life -saving

treatment but during this treatment he was given

too much oxygen which caused permanent blindness

Yep, a condition now known as retinopathy of

free maturity. Mm -hmm. So yeah, that kind of

sucks but Still a very very interesting and awesome

episode So and there's really like there really

are no nitpicks for this. No aren't no off at

all. So Alright, we're gonna take another quick

break and we will come back give our final ratings

and final thoughts and we'll close the show after

Legends of the Dark Knight. Yes, Michael just

keep driving All right. We are back. And what

do you give? Knight racer Three The reason I

give it a three is because it's a cliche from

Brothers Keeper You know except for you know,

there's no minotaur bomb no, but it's the same

kind of thing So that's what I give that. A one.

The only reason why it doesn't get a zero is

because of the whole comedy with the mechanic.

I thought that was really cool. In the bottle

of bubbly. Yeah. That was funny. All right. Night

Behind Bars. I have to give this one a one. I

have to give this one a one. Yeah. I'm right

there with you. The only good thing about this

entire episode was SPM at night. That was awesome.

I was awesome. Yeah But other than that I have

to give that one one night song five Same here

because finally we actually do get to see RC

do more than just hang back on a messed up motorbike

Or a rag top with 400 horses Because apparently

without that life is just regular. Yeah. Oh And

that reminds me I was gonna say something during

scanners on and I didn't get to but it was the

scene where Michael is interacting with Bonnie

He says don't you be smiling too much because

you have to explain to Devon why we're not in

Detroit Yeah, I meant to say that earlier and

I just now thought of it Yeah, and then later

on they he says You weren't the one that had

to lie to him. He always catches you. Yeah, he

always catches you. Yeah. Alright, so thank you
