TFG1Mike And The Theatrical Experience Over The Years

Why I Think The Theatrical Experience Sucks

I used to love going to the movies. I mean what kid didn’t, it was like a night out on the town. Most times when my mom and I went to the movies we would either eat before hand or get ice cream after. There were times when we actually got drinks, pop corn, and candy at the movies. Ya know back in the 80’s when they weren’t astronomically expensive to get at the theater. I honestly don’t remember if I went to the movies before the age of 9 years old. In 1989 I remember seeing Batman in theaters after that it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1990.

I always loved going to then movies by myself, and I still do. There was a theater down the street from where I live now that during the week during the day you could go see a movie and end up theater hopping the entire day. The great thing about this theater was that half the time during the week there was no one there. I remember going to see Rumble in the Bronx and there was maybe two other people besides me it was awesome. Sadly that theater had been closed down then torn down. This kinda was very depressing to me as I walk by the now empty lot almost once a week.

Going to the theater as a kid I remember we did sneak in snacks and stuff, but I also remember that there were times where my mom and I got sodas and popcorn. This maybe was twenty bucks total including admission. Unlike today where theater costs are so sky rocketed it’s outrageous. I so do not mean truly outrageous either. One of the biggest issues with going to even a matinee movie these days is that all films are fucking 3-D …. Which means higher ticket costs. I know when I’ve gone to the theater in the last year I’ve paid $8.75 each time! Now I never buy additional stuff at the theater. I’m of the opinion that you either eat before or after seeing a movie. One reason is that if you get the large soda (WHICH THEY BRIBE YOU INTO GETTING) you’ll have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie. Theaters are not like being at home, where you can pause the film. So the overpriced extra stuff I never have to worry about, however the 3-D crap is horrid. I see now difference between the 3-D and 3-D in the theater I go to.

I remember when I went to see Fast Five I was like awesome a film I don’t need dumb plastic glasses for. I know there are people out there that love going to the theaters and that is great for them. However I only go when it’s a movie, or a franchise I absolutely need to see on the big screen. I can wait for the media release!

So in Closing …. there is nothing exciting about seeing films in the theater to me anymore. Plus in todays tech society we can just get giant ass screens for a home theater!!!
