About this Episode

This episode covers the recent box office results and discusses the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a full review. The hosts also touch on the future of the Transformers franchise, recent movie news involving Universal and The Vampire Chronicles, and reflect on the career of the late Robin Williams.

Just look at your own life and just realize what

things are precious to you. That's what I did

when I was doing it. You know, I would come home

and just realize, oh, extraordinary that you

have heaven in front of you. I mean, sometimes

people would say, and also hell, you bastard.

But also that idea that you have, look around

and see the precious things, the connection with

family, friends. You know the things in you then

the people especially in your life if heaven

exists What would you like to hear God say when

you arrive at the pearly gates? They're seating

near the front The concert begins at five it'll

be Mozart Elvis and they have one of your choosing

oh Or just a nice if heaven exists to know that

there's laughter. That'd be a good thing. Oh,

yeah Just here God goes to Jews walk into a bar

Today, on Weekend at the Movies, we'll be discussing

the future of Transformers, the good and the

bad of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the

passing of a movie icon. All that and more, coming

up now on Weekend at the Movies. Now, who knows

what that means? Carpe diem. That's seize the

day. Very good. Mr. Meeks. Meeks. Another unusual

name. Seize the day. Together you rose but while

ye may. Why does the writer use these lines?

Because he's in a hurry. No! Thank you for playing

anyway. Because we are food for worms, lads.

Because, believe it or not, each and every one

of us in this room is one day going to stop breathing,

turn cold, and die. I'd like you to step forward

over here. It improves some of the faces from

the past. You've walked past them many times.

I don't think you've really looked at them. They're

not that different from you, are they? Same haircuts.

full of hormones, just like you. Invincible,

just like you feel. The world is their oyster.

They believe they're destined for great things,

just like many of you. Their eyes are full of

hope, just like you. Did they wait until it was

too late to make from their lives even one iota

of what they were capable? Because you see, gentlemen,

these boys are now fertilizing daffodils. But

if you listen real close... You can hear them

whisper their legacy to you. Go on, lean in.

Listen. You hear it? In the opening, MWIRE Weekly

has had a name change. The powers that be have

renamed our show here, Weekend at the Movies.

So that is what you will be hearing us from now

on out. So you'll see new arts and there will

be no apparent confusion between MWIRE and what

we're doing here on a normally weekly basis and

sometimes monthly basis. I'd like to thank Matt

for filling in last week. Thank you, Matt. I

did an okay job. I think you did a fine job,

sir. I think I did a worse job of making a script

this week than I did filling in. I don't know.

You don't know which one was the worst. No, you

did a fine job. But we are back talking about

movies. And as always, we will start with the

box office this past weekend. I guess not much

of a surprise. Although it did have some competition

but number one at the box office this past weekend

was of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with

a 65 million dollar opening which seems like

a lot but actually is less than most of the other

big movies opened with this year. So it had a

worse opening than all of the Marvel movies.

Worse way worse opening than Transformers. It

actually had a Slower opening than Maleficent.

So hopefully that can put it into perspective

and hopefully that's a sign that it will not

Do that great at the box office. I guess I'm

Showing my hand for later on in the show But

yeah 65 million Brings it in at number one followed

closely in its second week by Guardians of the

Galaxy with 42 mil Which put actually puts that

up to 176 million, which is excellent file that

out. We're a couple new Cummers as well into

the storm at three, the hundred foot journey

at four, and then in its third week Lucy takes

the fifth spot with just under 10 million. I

think my biggest comment on the box office is

I really wish turtles would have came out first

and then Hercules and Guardians of the Galaxy

would have came out after it instead of vice

versa like it happened. Because I would have

really liked Turtles to come out first and then

Guardians of Galaxy and Hercules just to stomp

on it So it didn't make any money And well, we'll

see well how it does next weekend. I mean that

was just one week Yeah, we'll see what the second

one is because I and I think it's unfortunate

that such a big movie came out Immediately after

Guardians of the Galaxy. Hopefully it didn't

steal too much from that movie because that movie

is much more deserving to make a lot more money

Yeah, any comments or anything that you guys

see looking at the box office you wanted to bring

up? I don't want Hercules to make enough money

to get Hercules 2. I know, I'm kind of scared

because Hercules is only at $63 million and it

had a $100 million budget. That's like nearly

over $130 million worldwide. I don't know how

much the worldwide counts in a movie like that.

Well hopefully it hasn't opened in all of its

places worldwide. Sometimes they have different

scheduling. So hopefully it will make enough.

total, like you said, so that there's more movies.

Lucy will surpass 100 million this next week,

most likely. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes should

come real close to passing 200 ,000 or 200 million,

I mean, this next week. So they'll hit a couple

of milestones. We'll have another member of the

200 million club rightfully with Planet of the

Apes. Other than that, not a whole lot of crazy

things to talk about for the week for the year.

Captain America still reigns supreme at number

one. Followed by the Lego movie, they're both

over 250 million. Unfortunately Transformers

Age of Extinction is holding onto that third

spot at 242. Followed by Maleficent and then

rounding off our top five would be X -Men Days

of Future Past at 232 million. So that is the

top five for the year currently. Yeah, I guess

we'll have to see what happens with Guardians

of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

to see if either one of those makes a threat

to the crack that top five or if they come up

just short. Outside of that, we'll get into some

headlines. I guess we'll start with the future

of Transformers, which could be bright if you

have a certain take on it, I guess. Apparently,

the Transformer movies are too hard to make for

Michael Bay. So difficult shooting explosions.

Yeah, it's too many days of the week and of the

year that he has to dedicate to making crap.

If you spent every day for two years, seven days

a week making something, you think you'd come

up with something better than that. Well, the

thing is, is that he's like, I feel like Michael

Bay is so creatively devoid of, you know, creativity,

whatever that. It's it's really hard for him

to figure out how to blow things up in a new

way. And that's all he knows how to do for weeks.

Like, how am I going to shoot this? So it looks

differently than the last 66 times I shot this

scene. Right. I mean, once after you shoot five

movies the exact same way, like, what are you

going to do? So hopefully, hopefully we will

see Michael Bay exit the. Action genre altogether.

Maybe I don't know but at least we'll see him

exit the Transformers franchise and then hopefully

give up the reins to a director that can actually

write a plot Or that said like it's gonna take

it's gonna take seven days a week for the next

two years Also, they don't have a new director

and transformers 5 has a release date less than

two years from now I don't know what's going

on. So we need to ask Michael Bay. What's going

on? He also can't add So that's the thing. How

about the Justice League Dark? You guys probably

know more about that than I do. What exactly

do you take as far as the Justice League Dark

tie -in? I didn't know there was going to be

a Constantine TV show releasing in the next month

or two. Did you guys know that? No, I did not.

No. I've heard about the Gotham TV show. I've

heard a lot about the Gotham TV show. Apparently,

Constantine is debuting in October. Apparently,

that's a thing that's happening. I didn't, I

don't know. If they're going to have a Just League

Dark TV show, and it's gonna have little to nothing

to do, or a Just League Dark movie, and a Constantine

TV show, and Constantine's a member of Just League

Dark, but they're talking, hey, maybe we'll do

tie -ins, but they're in different universes.

Like, I don't even know what to make of that.

Like, are they gonna have? the same actor as

Constantine between the two of them? Because

like, if I was watching the Shield TV show and

then they had a different guy's Dick Fury in

it, I think I'd be upset. Yeah, that wouldn't

make a whole lot of sense at all. I feel like

DC's like Marvel's doing all these things and

making a lot of money to do them all, but it's

slightly worse. Nate? No. No? I got nothing.

I got nothing on that. I got nothing on Justice

League. I didn't know there was going to be a

Justice League Dark movie either. Yeah. These

people not telling us stuff five years in advance.

Damn them. Is that movie not coming out for years?

I have no idea. With a Z? I think. When you have

to sound out. I think if it's gonna be more than

two years, then they're holding their breath

a little too long, hoping the Constantine TV

show is gonna be huge and survive that long.

Yeah, most TV shows don't make it past the two

-year mark. Well, I don't know if that's true,

but I doubt it with this type of TV. No, it's

definitely true. Most TV shows get cut their

first year. Yeah. So, interesting. For those

people that liked Josh Brolin's Thanos... And

wondering when you're gonna get to see that character

again most likely you'll see it actually multiple

times The rumors are going that he will be in

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that he will be in

the Avengers 3 What's the third one that they're

hinting at is he gonna be in Avengers 2 at all

Probably about as much as he was in Avengers

1 maybe a little less gotcha But at least possible

that we would see him somewhere down the road

in Avengers and possibly in another Guardians

of the Galaxy film. What do you think? Do we

do we need more Thanos, Nate? Yeah, like from

what I've seen in the few movies he's been in,

he seems to be doing fine. And I want to see

him be even more angry or whatever. I want to

see him get be even more angry as well. Yeah,

I mean, what did you guys think of his appearance

in Guardians of the Galaxy? What was your take

on the look and the feel of that character? He

looks and sounds perfect. Well, he looks really

good. He sounds perfect Okay, I guess like you

don't think you know, he looks for them I think

as well I mean maybe it's just the difference

between having something drawn in two dimensions

and having something rendered in three He looks

better than probably anyone in this world ever

could other than him but okay but I you know

it's not perfect it's really good I don't know

okay something about the face really you know

I wouldn't say it was really off but it was like

I don't know maybe they'll figure it out by Avengers

3 or maybe they won't care because it's not it's

the thing that bothers doesn't even bother it's

the thing that I kind of noticed a little bit

also in comic book news Vin Diesel apparently

via his Facebook page has set off a spark, a

bunch of rumors there with a post that said,

Vin and Marvel, you all made it happen. I get

the strange feeling Marvel thinks I'm inhuman.

Ha ha. The rumors are about the Marvel franchise,

the Inhumans. What is that, Matt? OK, the Inhumans.

So the Inhumans were a couple of humans. And

then the Cree showed up and did some experiments

with the pterygian mists to see what would happen,

I guess. I don't know. This was thousands of

years ago or hundreds of years ago, I think.

And then they made these experiments on the moon,

the blue side of the moon. I don't know where

that is, if it's even on the dark side of the

moon. And they're led by black bolts. The thing

is they look a lot like mutants at you know or

metahumans or whatever what have you they did

they just got superpowers essentially like because

black bolt can yell really loud and Medusa's

got like hair that's prehensile and things like

that They're very huffy and puffy like black

bolt thinks himself the king of the universe

and that becomes a thing Which is interesting

because it's like he bumps heads with a lot of

the major players in the Marvel Galactic Universe

during the Annihilation wave or a little bit

before in that area and it's like so when when

the character plays Groot You know one of the

members that helped stop the Annihilation wave

Makes a reference to another group that was part

of the Annihilation wave and like I don't immediately

jump to him playing a new character He jumps

and just group being involved in that. Yeah Is

there anywhere else he could fit into that as

as a new character? Yeah. Oh, yeah, dude. He

could be you know what? Black Bolt is like the

perfect guy for him to be because he's large

intimidating and has no lines. Like Vin Diesel

was made. That's like, you know, Arnold Schwarzenegger

is getting a little too old. Give Vin Diesel

now. Yeah. Nate, what do you think? Should we?

Shouldn't humans be something that comes into

existence as far as the movie verse goes? Sure

I would love to see more Groot actually like

very cool anywhere they could fit him in Have

Groot hang out with the Iron Man who knows Well

that also happened Matt you're just an encyclopedia

of comic book knowledge And yet I haven't read

anything published this year. I don't think That's

all right. I'm just doing anything based on anything

that happens this year. I've got a big fat stack

of comics I've bought this year that were published

this year. If you have knowledge of stuff that

happened 10 to 20 years ago, you're golden right

now. Yeah. Except for when they changed the Infinity

Gems to Infinity Stones and then they make them

make people explode. I don't know what that is.

That's new. Michael Bay must have had a hand

on that. Another article here from Wesley Snipes

discussing how Blade influenced Marvel's current

success. Yeah, man. I know everyone's like, what?

Captain America is going to be as good as Blade.

I mean, this quote says it all. There were empires

and institutions that were built off the Blade

franchise. What in God's name is he talking about?

But Affleck sued to have a word about how Daredevil

created the whole thing for Blade and Julie Garner.

He has another quote here. You know, if I would

have understood the potential of doing or adapting

comic book characters to feature films and also

the tie into gaming and digital technology when

I was doing the first Blade films, then I'd be

in a different business now. He wouldn't be making

movies. Yeah, what does that mean? Is he making

movies still? Has he lost his mind? Was he drunk?

It's gonna be in the Expendables 3 coming out

soon. Oh, yeah, that's a movie for washed -up

actors That sounds like where he should be and

then he rips on the third blade movie. Yeah.

Yeah, he didn't involve him, right? No, he was

the lead actor. Oh, I thought I thought he did

blade one and two But apparently that movie was

terrible, so maybe that one did not help set

the stage for Marvel's success? Even though it

happened five years before Marvel started getting

successful? Dude, Blade 2 is pretty good. Yeah,

did you end up watching all three of them yet?

We've only seen Blade 1 and 2. I actually like,

I remember liking the third one when I saw it,

but everybody craps on the third one, so maybe

that's a bad memory of mine that's making me

think it was better than it was. I don't know,

Amy likes it too. Originally when I saw them,

that was my favorite of the three, but everything

I've read in the last five to ten years tells

me I'm wrong. Michael Fassbender says the Assassin's

Creed film will be faithful to the game. I know

nothing about Assassin's Creed other than it

looks like a cool game and if I was into games

maybe I would like it. So you guys, Assassin's

Creed, should the film stay true to the game

and are you excited at all about Assassin's Creed

being a film? Nate you're slightly more Video

game than me you want to take this um sure. I

don't know it. I don't see Like as long as they

get the animus Correct, which the whole concept

is like super duper stupid. It's uh it's like

your DNA says that it seems legit No your DNA

your DNA holds memories of your ancestors and

so they can tap into your DNA and hook you up

in like a in like a bed that like sucks into

your head and then it'll it'll like you'll be

able to play through your ancestors memories

so if your ancestor was a sweet -ass assassin

you can go be the assassin from well whatever

however long ago Fastbender says that he's most

drawn to the Assassin's Creed franchise's idea

of DNA memory. Yeah, like that doesn't make any

sense. Like, how can DNA carry? I don't know.

I don't know science enough, but seriously, that

like he says, no, I think it's a very feasible

scientific theory. He's told you he's an actor

and I am also not a scientist. And then it says,

so I'm really excited about it. spelled CITED.

I hope that's a typo. I'm cited to. Is it a total

film because they typo a lot? No, this is a hip

thing. And then you can just take this next line

out of context. But he says, I'm really excited

about it and we're working very hard to make

sure we've got the best and most exciting original

package. OK, whatever. But no, I mean, this has

Creed games are are. And the stories aren't that

great, but it's really about the gameplay. I

don't know I thought the stories is what made

draw what drew people into that game, dude No

one ever buys this as a screed and then plays

it for the story they play it for running around

cities and like jumping off but it's like but

it's the fact that you're running around cities

and doing all this stuff in actual like historic

Venues no yeah, but then there's like you know

you're in Italy and a guy's like hey It's a me

Mario, and it's like a you that happens That

happens, yeah, in the game. No one says it's

a me and Mario. No, there's a guy that's like,

it's like, hey, I'm your Uncle Mario. It's a

me, Mario. Does he say that? Yeah, he literally

says that. I don't remember that. Does it figuratively

say that? It says Creed 2, what? I was going

to say it has to be Creed 2 because that's the

Italian one. And that's the only one I've played.

Oh, well, anyway. The point is... Yeah, as I

said, when I first heard the concept behind Assassin's

Creed, I was like, that sounds like the dumbest

game ever. Because all the ads only show the

assassinating parts. It's like, wait, so I'm

like some 22 year old kid in the Bronx who wants

to learn to be an assassin. To take down some

sort of giant governmental conspiracy or something?

That sounds retarded. But the gameplay is great.

Yeah, it's a fun game. So we'll see. And I haven't

played the pirate one yet, but I still want to

play the pirate one. You love pirates and you

love video games. It's like $30. So man. He also

loves money. Or so he thinks, because he doesn't

see it very often. I don't. I think money is

good. All right. You guys have touched on the

topic of female leads and stars and needing more

of them. I don't know. I listened to last week's

episode. I don't remember you guys talking about

this at all. I don't remember when this news

hit. But did you guys see the thing about, I

believe this would be Sony, but Marvel looking

at the idea of having a female -led movie, possibly

in the form of a spider woman? I saw I saw that

somewhere like Sony mentions chance of a female

-led spider -man universe movie What do you think?

I get down with a black cat movie I don't know

if they have the right what spider -women they

have the rights to because there have been like

four or five of them But like if they have the

rights to a ranya who's the least like spider

-man of all the spider -women I'd be totally

down with that which they could do as a PG -13

kids movie, because she's like 14, 15 years old.

And that would be really cool to me, because

that's the one I've been the most interested

in of all of the individual ones I've read. But

I mean, if they have Jessica Drew, the red -suited

spider woman, she could be interesting. Or Ranye.

If there was going to be a female -led comic

book film, That What character would give it

the most chance of being successful do you think

cuz I mean we don't I'm all for the idea But

I would hate to see the idea fail as a lot of

people feel elected Yeah, but a lot because it

was shitty yeah, but I'm just saying but I'm

afraid stuff like that scares people away from

trying to do the female lead Comic book films.

I mean which character has the best chance of

making a success out of that film so that people

don't get scared of doing it in the future Honestly

black widow because everyone knows her now Yo,

yeah, I feel like my gosh got the highest chance

of success because one Everybody knows who she

is now and everyone knows her skill set and with

cap to they really got you know a close -up picture

and to Scarlett Johansson's amazing. Yeah Yeah,

that or Miss Marvel probably doing any of the

x -men female characters would have a shot Well,

I want to say I'm a frost but not after what

they've done with her and in the last two movies

Yeah, she was pretty boring and yeah She's like

one of the most interesting characters cuz she's

got she's got a very similar past like black

widow or she's on one side and she's like switch

a side but like I think they've they've kind

of Crap that up. What are the chances like 1

through 10 of spider? Just call it spider -woman

for lack of better phrase there of that being

a success if we go down that route Well if they

get as good of actors and script as the the two

amazing spider -man movie I would say they can

get up to me. Someone just threw something at

the computer If they just threw out spider -woman,

I just grab a random spider -woman story and

hope it sticks Like I think I think you're saying

something good about Amazing Spider -Man 2. Yeah,

it's gonna cause some backlash No like I I don't

I don't like your theory about having good actors

good actresses and a good script to make a good

movie like The no no no because you guys TMNT

is that is number one at the box office I Don't

follow your theory That is not the way you do

it. You just put Michael Bay in charge of it

and then call it something that existed in the

80s and it'll define What would happen if we

had one of those movies that was actually legit?

Like what do you mean based on like something

from when we were kids like a cartoon like Transformers

or turtles? Yeah, he man or something that was

actually done really good Doug. That would be

a great indie film Whatever Street Sharks, Silverhawks,

Thundercats, come on. Instead of just crap like

we keep getting over and over again. Biker mice

from Mars. Speaking of that, since you brought

it up, transition into sequels and remakes. Oh,

no. Apparently there is already green lights

going off all around Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

2. Oh, no. Oh, boy. Apparently they saw enough

to confirm. That they will continue going down

this turtle franchise, and God only knows what

they'll do next. They'll make the same movie

again with the same jokes. But probably not with

Michael Bay, because I'm sure if Transformers

takes every day of two years. Well, no, I mean,

he just produced it. Oh, that's true. So he was

like, hey, that explosion, make it more explosiony.

And then they're like. Yes, sir. He just said,

hey, all that stuff that existed in the 80s,

don't you dare do that. Don't even come close

to that. Don't even come close to the remake

that was like five years ago. Right. Anyways,

I don't think most of us are excited about any

more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, but

maybe some of our listeners are. And if so, please

tell us why you're excited about this to continue

with the same people in charge. All right, Universal

snaps up the rights to Anne Rice's The Vampire

Chronicles. Unfortunately, though, Alex Kurtzman

and Averto Orci are producing. Wait, wait, wait,

wait. Say that again? Kurtzman and Orci? Orky?

Orchi? You said that's a bad thing? Well, those

two are pretty much robots, I'm pretty sure.

Oh, OK. It's like the chick that writes a book

a week. Right. Can't possibly happen There and

first of all they were supposed to split up and

both be going their own ways, but now they're

doing that They're also doing Van Helsing's Next

thing they're doing the mummy revivals like you

can't do that many things and actually do them

Right you do them. Well. Yeah, especially do

them. Well. They were in charge of some of the

transformer stuff early on I Don't know they

haven't really done much good, but I don't know.

What do you guys think of? Those books which

obviously most famously as according to the article

adapted as interview with the vampire etc What

do you think I mean vampires are big I guess

right now I Have so little opinion on this like

I don't I don't care about vampires you see interview

with the vampire I did it was okay I've not seen

interview with the vampire. I've heard good things

um I wouldn't mind seeing it they got they probably

got vampires like a hundred percent more right

than then like Twilight or whatever movie you

want to talk about here's the thing like Twilight's

not very good right right um but it found a niche

and it's doing them great you know more power

to it the thing is their vampires in Twilight

are stupidly strong okay because they have no

weaknesses right they have all of the qualities

vampires that oh usually have They have none

of the weaknesses and then they also have superpowers

on top of it. Now, did they in Twilight could

could what's his name? Edward Edward. Edward,

could he just be like, I'm walking into this

place. Do pa do pa do. Here I am into your house.

Oh, yeah. No, no. No weaknesses. So he doesn't

have to be invited in. Except for when it got

all shiny and glittery whenever that caused that.

His greatest weakness is that he becomes spectacular

in the light. It's not even a weakness because

I think it can daze people and make them fall

in love with them even harder. It's literally

just a thing that's like, well, it's hard to

get in society when everyone loves you so much.

Oh, I'm so sad for you. So that said, like the

writing's terrible, the story's stupid, but the

vampires are strong, which is sad. Because the

only way to kill them is to tear them apart bit

by bit and then burn the little bits. Wow. Yeah,

they're they're like nearly unkillable. If you

tear them apart bit by bit, could they like remake

themselves and two different vampires? I doubt

it. No, but they might be able to reassemble

themselves like T 1000 did that. That might be

too cool for for Twilight. Yeah. Yeah. Well,

all of the death, at least I've only read the

first book, but all of the death happens off

screen. Sure. Like, yeah, we killed 1000. What

did you just say? T 1000, T 1000 as in the Terminator,

the Terminator to Judgment Day. Like I was saying

like he could maybe reassemble himself if his

bits aren't burnt or something I thought you

were trying to segue into the new Terminator

film No, cuz I still had more to say about and

rice Very little she's less annoying than Laurel

K. Hamilton like Okay, don't don't adapt those

books into movies because that's gonna be a movie

with a shitty female protagonist who's the whole

like book. The whole book is her internal monologue

about how much humans suck and how depressing

it is that every vampire could kill her in a

second and how afraid she is and how much it

sucks. And then everyone else just kind of just

swoops in and saves her worst book series ever.

So, yeah, like I have a feeling the adapting

the Anne Rice books are going to be one of the

better choices of vampires. And I would like

to see less Twilighty, more adulty, but not like.

Adults. We've seen that before. I don't know.

That said, I hope there's a new Genesis for the

Terminator movies now that I've mentioned them

on our podcast. How would you spell Genesis?

Correctly. I hope there's a new Terminator game

for the Sega Genesis to go along with this Sega

Terminator. But no, Sega couldn't do that because

it's not spelled the same. Genisys. No, that

would be their advertising campaign. They'd be

like, new Terminator game, play it on the Sega

Genesis. Yeah, apparently a couple of news stories

for Arnold for you to end their news section

here. Just wrapped up on Terminator Genesis.

I can't wait to see our finished product and

I know will remind the fans why they fell in

love with the Terminator on July 1st, 2015. I'll

be back. That's not it. You don't want a movie

just to remind you, like, oh, yeah, Terminator

is pretty cool. Remember the old movie? Nostalgia

makes a lot of money. Ask Michael Bay. Anyway,

and also speaking of Arnold, now that he's done

filming the Terminator film, filming can now

begin on The Legend of Conan. Good. Arnold Schwarzenegger

still in place to star. No, no, here's what we

do. Here's what you do. Here's what you do. That's

exactly what you do. He is an old wise man. You

have warrens conan. You have conan sitting on

the throne talking to his uh You know lore master

and he's all like, you know My last four lore

masters have died of old age, but I will never

die and he talks about how You know what story

was the last one? I told you he's like, well,

you told me about the hot time You killed the

samarian prince and he's like, ah, yes And then

he just starts telling a story and it like fucking

cuts to, I don't know, Jason Momoa or someone

else. And then you get a past story with old

Conan, which is how a lot of the comic books

and even some of the short stories are anyway.

King Conan sitting on a throne just telling cool

stories from his past. You get Arnold in it and

then you also get a good movie that, you know,

isn't the last Conan movie which sucked. Starting

playing Rock Johnson. Sure, I have yeah sure

I haven't a slight issue with that set up is

that you know Conan's gonna make it through Oh,

yeah, cuz he dies all the time always going to

live and you know what you know that going in

and Like you're gonna see all these daring do

and you never made I don't know doesn't because

he's an old man And at the time when he's telling

the story he's gonna croak by the end The thing

is is that you've got him sitting on a throne,

so you don't know if he breaks and like a spine

or his legs You also don't know for sure if this

film is actually going to happen. It has not

received the green light yet. There are no directors

tied to it and even Arnold is not officially

signed on for it. So it's all rumors at this

point, guys. But apparently they're going to

start filming next spring. So apparently everything's

going to come together real quick now that they

have the script done. I give you my money. I

want to see it. Excellent. All right. I guess

we can get in. Oh, I'm sorry. I missed one sequel

remake, I guess, because I don't care about it,

but maybe other people do. If I say Zoolander,

what do you guys say? You say Zoolander, I say

who cares? Zoolander, who cares? Zoolander, who

cares? Matt, fan of Zoolander? First one was

kind of funny. OK, maybe I just haven't seen

it. I don't know. Wow. I'm just kidding. I'm

not a big fan of Ben Stiller's and that, right?

Yeah, he's the main. I think he's Ned Zulander.

I thought you were the movie guy. Not when it

comes to Ben Stiller. Fine, whatever. But Zulander

too. So look forward to that. If you're a Zulander

fan, you should be happy. It'll be funny. It'll

be because he'll be all old now. Yeah, I was

going to say, like, he's an old model. I could

claim to be a fan. I don't think that's an accurate

statement. I think it's it's got its moments.

That said, as someone who could consider themselves

a fan, I don't think a sequel 10 years later

is gonna get me excited or whatever. Getting

into some trailer talk. There's a handful of

them. I know I missed out last week. I did want

to mention that Maze Runner was one of the ones

that I was considering, one of the films I was

looking forward to before we knew anything about

it, before the year started. Saw that trailer.

i don't know i mean it looks like it could just

be a little teeny bop movie type thing but it

also looks like it could be somewhat interesting

um but one of the most anticipated movies of

the year for me was into the woods and i I got

a chance to see that trailer and it looked pretty

good from what I could tell. It's not a horror.

Don't let Matt confuse you last week. It was

a honeymoon. It goes into the woods. The concept

like when you name yourself that your movie a

very general thing like into the woods or the

honeymoon and then they involve a honeymoon or

going into the woods. It's hard to not mess that

up. But I am looking forward to that musical.

So want to see. when we see more of that and

how it goes and if they're actually going to

be singing and all that other stuff. Hopefully

it takes a somewhat of a page out of the book

that William is wrote as far as I mean it has

Anna Kendrick in it she can sing so hopefully

some of these other people can sing I don't know.

As far as this week's trailers what did you guys

see that piqued your interest Nate? Left behind

I wanted to talk about that a little bit. All

right go for it. And you're a left -behind expert

you've seen every version of left -behind Yes

resident left -behind expert. I have seen them

all The first left behind is terrible. This looks

terrible with a bigger budget. Oh Yeah, like

I don't know. I don't I don't know. Do people

like this? I don't People enjoy the rapture.

Yeah. Yeah, I don't know Jesus I don't know I

think it's besides that it's you know the kind

of thing it speaks to a universal question that

everyone's always you know perplexed about as

far as what's gonna happen so anytime you do

a movie about the end of days people will be

somewhat interesting unless it's titled end of

days and then they will run I think they should

just watch this is the end I was just trying

to get another Arnold thing in there I think

wasn't he an end of days or was that the six

day or something, I don't know. I've never seen

those. End of Days is the one that's got a guy

that looks a lot like Al Pacino. As the villain

fighting Arnold Schwarzenegger, I believe. Oh,

there we go. That was a terrible movie. I enjoyed

it when I watched it. But it was out in 1999,

so when I saw it, I was 14. Yes, I think we should

rewatch it and see how wrong you were. I think

that's a common thing like watching a movie when

you're younger and then we like watching it when

you're older and you're just like, wow, that

was a piece of crap. Yeah, dude, I had no sense

of - Seth, when it's the holiday of Indiana Jones

or Star Wars. Hey, dude, I loved Good Burger.

It's hard to watch now. It is, but it's like,

it's like, oh, it's bad, but I kind of like it

still. Oh, dude, Kevin Pollack's in End of Days.

We used to watch it just for him. There you go.

I forgot. I guess he is. What else Navy Sides

left behind? The Theory of Everything looks cool.

Stephen Hawking biopic. Yes, sir. I'm interested

in that one. What about the animated films Penguins

of Madagascar and the Book of Life? I'm more

interested in the Book of Life based on its art

style. But the jokes didn't really do it for

me in the trailer. But that's not, you know,

the trailers is supposed to get kids in the seats.

I don't know. But, you know, I'm way more excited

for that one than definitely the Penguins of

Madagascar, which I have no interest in. Can

I bring up a movie that I'm absolutely not interested

in seeing, but I have to bring up Mordecai? No.

Jake Squared. Jake Squared. Oh, yeah, that one's

weird. It's freaking starring Casey Jones. Oh,

is that the guy from the 1990 live action Turtles

movie? Cool. It's Casey Jones, like whatever,

however many years later we are. 20 some years

later. And he is perfect for that role in that

movie. Now, wait, you don't want to see this

movie. I mean, I don't know. I won a bunch of

awards, apparently. It looks super interesting.

It's got Casey Jones in it, so I'll see. Yeah.

But like, I don't know. I'd watch it. It's interesting,

but it could be bad. I don't know if I go to

the theaters for it, although I went to the theaters

for TMNT. So I just not saying TMNT because they're

going to be confused. Yeah. The old one is the

five years ago one or whatever. Seven years ago,

that one was really good. Did anyone know that?

The first best exotic marigold hotel existed.

Is that an actual movie? Is that an actual movie?

I don't know. I swear it says that there was

there was a first movie and this is a sequel.

Oh, good. Yeah, I think that might be a thing.

I missed it then. Or am I completely ignorant

when it comes to this whole thing? I don't know.

Is it an Oprah movie? No, it's a movie with a

whole bunch of other old people. Best exotic

marigold hotel that also know. Yeah, that also

has what? Judi Dench in it. Yeah. Yeah. So it's

a sequel. When did the first one come out? 2011.

Oh, I missed it. It has a bunch of famous people

in it. It's got Bill Nye in it too. Bill Nye?

Science guy? Is it Nye or Nye? I think it's Nye.

Whatever. Fuck that name. Bill Nye is a science

guy. I love this guy, this actor. He's great.

He's also in Love Actually Nate. You've seen

Love Actually, right Kevin? No. Fuck. I've heard

great things about it, though. Yeah, it's one

of Amy's favorite movies. She has it on DVD.

I've watched it a few times. It's it's a better

romcom. Gotcha. What else was there? There was

a did you guys see the trailer for Mordecai?

I know a bunch of them have been taken down.

Yes. Yeah, I was going to say I found it on YouTube

posted less than three days ago, but it had been

made private. And it was like, no, can't watch

that. I did find a copy that I could like a view.

Why would they take down trailers for a movie?

Like it's it's advertisement I don't know. I

don't know. Sometimes well about stuff, you know,

it's also advertisement us talking about how

they're taking it down and everyone going Well

now I gotta see it. Oh, come on Their plan, but

I mean that's a thing The trailer that we watched

that for the film that never came to us Or did

it come to us for a week with the Dom Hemingway?

Oh, yeah, it has like a hint of that with like

a hint of just like Wes Anderson a little bit

and then Johnny but not enough I Don't know,

but it looks interesting Yeah, I mean it's Johnny

Depp not and he doesn't do every movie. He's

not caked in makeup Yeah in this movie, so that's

interesting I'm all for it. I'm all for seeing

more about that film. It has my interest. Yeah,

definitely Yeah, I would I would see it It looks

interesting. Just a warning to guys out there,

if any of your significant others ever mentions

the word theater and then puts the phrase the

best of me. Run. What is it? That is a Nicholas

Sparks movie. What does that mean? That is the

The Prince with Bruce Willis? Anybody? That looked

like taken, but instead of just putting Liam

Neeson in there, we're like, we've tried to do

the taken thing. We've tried it with Mel Gibson.

We've tried it with this actor. We've tried it

with that actor. Nick Cage, but it hasn't come

out yet. And it just doesn't work. Now we're

going to try to do it with like five actors.

So it's just like the Prince with Bruce Willis

and the other guy. And did anybody notice that

John Cusack was in every trailer? Oh, my gosh.

OK, we're in the same place, I think. Thank you

for bringing this up, because I almost forgot.

I went to his IMDb page from 2010 to 2012. That's

three years. He made like four movies from 2011

to 2014. He made like he's making like 13 movies.

He was I least saw him in three trailers like

like he's like quadrupled his amount of movies

and two of them trailers were about movies where

a daughter or girl gets kidnapped. What happened

in two of the movies he was wearing the same

hat? I'm just saying. But seriously, like, I

don't know. He like just was like, I got to get

working. I need some money. I can't live off

a high fidelity of the rest of my life. That's

one of the ones he was in. Drive Hard looks great.

I want to see that. Yeah. Didn't mean to kill

the conversation, Jesus. No, I have a drive hard.

I hope we don't have to be on this podcast with

you guys anymore, God. It's like die hard, but

you're driving harder. Drive hard. With a vengeance.

The only other one that people are talking and

going crazy about, I guess, is Kristen Stewart

trying to be serious in Camp X -Ray. Didn't she

try to be serious in that one movie that failed

also? She tried to get naked in one of the films

that whoa, that's good. Did she fail? No, she

was No, she made it She made it to the nakedness.

I Don't know if I just want I don't know if I

want to I have to be in the right mood to try

to watch a movie about detainees in Guantanamo

Bay That's never gonna happen. That's something

Nate will not be watching with me. I guarantee

that yeah, Dave no way so I know, anything else

that you guys wanted to say that I cut you off

and didn't let you say? Um, no. Alright, then

we'll be right back after a short break and we'll

be talking about our main attraction as well

as a few movies I didn't get to talk about last

week, so we'll be right back. I just have a little

question here. You could be a janitor anywhere.

Why did you work at the most prestigious technical

college in the whole f***ing world? Why did you

sneak around at night and finish other people's

formulas that only one or two people in the world

can do and then lie about? Why do I stand up

here? Anybody? To feel taller. No. Thank you

for playing, Mr. Dalby. I stand upon my desk

to remind myself that we must constantly look

at things in a different way. Good morning, Vietnam!

Hey, this is not a test. This is rock and roll.

Time to rocket from the Delta to the DMZ. What?

What year is it? Uh, 1995, remember? You got

some ID? Oh, let me guess, you probably left

it in the other Tarzan outfit, right? 26 years.

Are you from around here? I was. But I've been

in Jumanji. It's incredible. Everybody came.

Except for that guy who stayed behind because

he had the sniffles. Oh, no, he's here. How does

it feel good to be out of there? I'm telling

you, nice to be back, ladies and gentlemen. Hi,

where are you from? What's your name? Uh, Aladdin.

Aladdin! Hello, Aladdin. Nice to have you on

the show. Can we call you Al or maybe just Din?

How about Ladi? Sounds like a good boy. Come

on, Ladi! So, Mr. Martin, you would like us to

pass a bill declaring you a human being? Yes.

Specifically, the ability to marry a fellow human

being. I see. Miss Hiller? The water's boiling.

Hello! So this is where you humans come to ingest

food. Well, let's just say that some humans do,

yeah. Don't you have restaurants on Ork? Oh no,

we just eat whatever's in front of us. That's

why we have to picnic back -to -back. All right,

thanks for sticking with us before we get into

the movies that we've been watching this week.

I guess I'll real quickly comment on some of

the stuff that you guys were talking about last

week. Doesn't this belong in the credit conversation?

No. Shut up, man. Real quickly, I agree with

everything you guys said about Guardians of the

Galaxy. That film was a lot of fun and I would

probably also give it a rating of somewhere in

the four range, whether it be four, four and

a half, somewhere in there. It was a whole lot

of fun. I went in there with no expectations

and was pleasantly surprised. That was a good

breath of fresh air when it comes to the comic

book movies that we've been getting. So awesome

for that. Also Hercules, again I agree with you

guys there, Hercules was way better than I thought

it was going to be. Maybe one of the biggest

positive surprises so far of the year. So that

two thumbs up. Probably a straight four rating

on that. I don't know which one I would put better

right now. I'm leaning towards Guardians of the

Galaxy, but Hercules did so much stuff right.

You guys brought up, you know, they didn't fall

into the trap of putting a love story in there.

I like the take that they did as far as not necessarily

saying he could do some of the crazy stuff that

Hercules is known to do. But not outright denying

it either. Correct. I like the ambiguousness

of that. A few films that I have seen that you

guys have not, for good reason probably. Tammy.

I've seen a bunch of comedies. I don't usually

see a lot of comedies, but I'm trying to give

comedies a chance and waiting for one to make

me laugh. Tammy was not really that I like her

as an actress. Pretty sure she's the same character

in every film she's ever been in, though. I've

heard she's a different character in at least

one film. I just have not seen that film, apparently.

So, I mean, that was OK. I laughed a couple of

times, but not out loud. It's weird. Yeah, it's

weird. It's weird how, like, Comedians do that

like they'll start off and they'll be the same

character in every single movie for like five

years And then they'll be like okay. I've been

doing this for too long. I got to do something

or seen anyone do that Adam Sandler Yeah, what

no, but seriously like every like Chris Farley

like if Chris Farley survived You know all the

drugs he probably right now would be making like

super crazy like dramas and whatnot Just because

he'd be tired of, you know, a new Purdue would

be great as he'd be great as Batman. Yeah, that's

an old Frank Caliendo joke from like the 90s

from like the 90s, but not the actual 90s. Well,

it's hard to tell in the 90s, you know, began

and ended because it was really just like the

late 80s for five years and then then it was

leather jackets. Yes. Right. I'd probably give

Tammy somewhere in the two. two and a half range

on the stars there. So more enjoyable than to

teach me. I haven't got there yet. OK, I saw

sex tape, which I would say was actually somewhat

funnier than Tammy. Well, it's got a it's got

Jason Siegel. Yes. He I like him a lot. He's

good. Yeah, I mean, it's it's a funny premise,

I guess. Don't know I mean I laughed a few more

times in sex tape than I did for Tammy So I probably

give sex tape somewhere in the three range maybe

three and a half at the highest but most likely

just a straight three Average film also saw bad

words with Jason Bateman about the adult that's

trying to win the spelling bee He's just an ass

in that film Fun to watch though I mean Outside

of the spelling bee angle, I'm pretty sure I've

seen that movie before where, you know, is it

like bad Santa? And it's it's just he's playing

a character who his dad left him as a youngster

and he's super smart, but he's been basically

doing nothing with his life because he's bitter

about his dad leaving him. Wrapped up in a comedy.

Okay, that sounds like horribly depressing no,

but it's just I don't know but I mean there's

there's some parts where he's just telling people

off or telling kids off or telling parents off

that are somewhat like Really? What an ass he

really said that douchebag, but it's in a funny.

It's in a funny way. I guess I Have also seen

a movie called a winter winter's tale which had

The gladiator in it why did I just forget his

name? Russell Crowe. Oh cool. Um, and What's

the other guy's name Colin Farrell? No, that's

a somebody Colin Felix No, not Colin for that

Colin Farrell is the right name there but anyways,

it's it's about this guy who Falls in love with

this girl Yeah, but then there's all kinds of

weird magic and mystery and supernatural stuff

going on because he I don't know what time period

he's in in the beginning, but it's like olden

days. We'll just go with olden days. That's a

time period that exists. And then all of a sudden

he's in like present day, so to speak, and he

hasn't aged at all. And Russell Crowe is also

there and he hasn't aged. And basically at one

scene, Russell Crowe's face like breaks apart

and he like kills somebody. And it's quickly

revealed that he's like this demon. Oh, cool.

And you ruin the movie because you kind of know

that if you've seen the trailer and stuff that

he's kind of messed up and I'll continue to ruin

the movie because at one point Russell Crowe

as a demon because it's the only way you're going

to ever want to watch this movie is if I continue

to ruin parts of it. OK, OK. At one point, Russell

Crowe goes to talk to his boss, Lucifer. Right.

Who just happens to be Will Smith. No. What?

When did this movie come out? It's a 2014 film.

No. It's still in theaters. No. What is it called?

It's a Winter's Tale or Winter's Tale. Huh. But

I mean, it's somewhat interesting. I mean, it's

basically somewhat of a love story wrapped up

in an angels versus demons movie. Cool. I don't

know. I mean, I need to hear other people's take

on this film. I got to compare Will Smith to

Tim Curry in terms of who plays a better Lucifer

Devil. Now, is he all like decked out like in

horns and shit, or is he like just in a suit?

Smith in a suit. Yeah. So, yeah, I don't know.

I want to hear people's opinions about this film

because I haven't decided if it was good or bad.

Don't really know I mean it had some interesting

cool things and but it was also kind of sappy

love story involved in it Maybe I don't know

What have you guys been watching this week? What

have you seen this week? Nothing. No, dude. We've

seen some movies. We saw some movies on Friday.

One of them was called Mad Max. Mad Max. We watched

the first one. Duel to the death. Okay, good

good good M1 You don't want to talk about Duel

of the Dead? No, no, okay. Let's talk about Mad

Max first. The first one of the trilogy set up

the whole thing. I remember Beyond Thunderdome

really well, right? Well, and I say really well

isn't, I remember bits and pieces of it from

my childhood kinda. I remember a flamethrower

in the beginning and I remember there being a

gas scare, which really, even at eight I couldn't

put together how that worked. I remember loving

Beyond Thunderdome and I'm pretty sure that's

the only bit of Mad Max franchise I've seen.

Yeah, I remember being like, I love Mad Max,

Thunderdome, woo! Woo! At eight. That's why I

was excited when stuff like Waterworld and stuff

came out, but then I was, eh. I remember just

posting stuff. It's so unlike Mad Max, like what

I remember of Beyond Thunderdome and what I remember

of Mad Max from a week, less than a week ago.

They seem so dissimilar. Because Mad Max is about

Australian cops in a time that might be right

now, because I don't know enough about Australia

because I'm American. It might be post -apocalyptic.

There are gangs, but there are gangs today. Is

the second one the one that's supposed to be

the best? I think so. The second one has a face

in it, right? I think that's the one that gets

all the critical acclaim. But continue talking.

So we gotta watch the rest of them to either

fix or ruin my childhood I'm all for that and

also prepare for the next one which looks way

better than this one was I Am now will it say

the Fury Road is more exciting to me than Mad

Max was Mad Max the original 1979 has a 95 %

on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and a 71 % as far

as The audience I think that I think that's probably

right a mad max to the road warrior has a 100

% on rotten tomatoes Wow Wow and an 85 % from

an audience I'm excited. Okay, so Maybe your

childhood will not be destroyed cool So other

than that we watched duel to the death Duel of

death I brought up because we the three of us

recently did A GCR and Wars episode, Pirates

vs Ninjas. I think I plugged in the last one.

You should go watch it and vote. Is the voting

done? No, not yet. Okay. You should go watch

it and vote. And I said Ninjas won the movie

category specifically because of Duel of the

Death. No movie compares to it on either side

for either team. What do you guys think about

that assessment? If that was my only... Exposure

to ninja movies. I would be tempted to agree

with you, I guess, because the ninja part of

that film is incredible. Oh, it's amazing. It's

everything you want from a ninja in a movie ever.

Right. I don't know about the rest of the movie

wrapped around that. I don't dislike it. I think,

you know, it's a little slow. It's a foreign

film. There's some issues with it in that respect.

Right. But I mean, it's not a terrible movie,

and the ninjas bring it to a new level. The ninjas

definitely help a lot. I absolutely suggest everyone

see it, especially if you like kung fu movies

or ninja movies or kung fu with ninja movies.

Or any combination of those two words. Kung ninja

foob. Nate, you've seen Duel of the Death twice

now, although four years apart. Right. What do

you got to say? I liked it better the second

time. Yeah Yeah, cool I Don't know it's it's

a really fun movie It's one of those movies that

I have in my I'm always willing to watch it And

I try to see it once a year type situations I've

probably seen it half dozen times since I got

it seven years ago Cool along with the room,

and I'm now making it the Star Wars holiday special

But it's not bad at all like those two movies

the room in the holiday special. Oh, do you don't

even oh Shut up man, you're wrong Almost unwatchable.

No, that's what makes it so much fun. It's in

the room a lot of fun to watch Room was amazing

and every time I watch it. I bet you know what's

funny I was sitting I was sitting at work like

man Is it about time to watch the broom yet?

And I was like I watched it in April and no one's

going to watch it again until April I actually

got upset that I can't watch the room with anyone

That's not even a joke that's just I love that

movie I don't know when you're in the room Well,

that's cuz I get excited I get way excited for

no reason. Oh look at this part Behind the scenes

Spoon pictures All right Nate have you seen any

other film this week? No, I haven't I well I

watched the Lego movie again. Oh what which Yeah,

right now. So, Matt, you can borrow. Oh, OK.

OK. Kevin purchased the Lego movie. It was on

good sale. I had to buy it. Yeah. And Megan and

I stole it. Basically, before I even opened it,

they stole it. So sorry, Kevin. But yeah, watch

that again. It was really good the second time.

And Will Arnett was way funnier in it than he

was in the D &D digital movie. And now, since

you've seen it twice, you can tell TFG and Mike.

Even more so how wrong he is about that movie.

He's super wrong about it super wrong He's like

as long as opinion is is that wrong? He's so

wrong about Lego I say we go back to the intro

of this TV or this show and change the name Lego

No, I mean like to to like not and wire because

he doesn't wire. Yes I was making a joke I've

never done this but I'm Gonna give us I should

do this with the box office every once in a while

Well, I'm looking at the box office list since

I was looking at Mad Max for the the Rotten Tomatoes

Which by the way, the third one also has like

an 80 or 85 percent. So apparently they're all

good So we'll see about that but I was looking

at They have a box office chart all the films

that are at the box office and then they have

all the Rotten Tomatoes scores right there The

ones that are doing the best These are ones that

are above 90 percent. That's no piercer is at

95 percent Dan was talking about X -Men Days

of Future Past was 91. Wow. Boyhood is 99. Yeah.

A Most Wanted Man. That's Seymour Hoffman is

in that, I believe. Philip Seymour Hoffman, that's

90%. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 91. And

Guardians of the Galaxy, 92. Those are your top

performers at the box office right now. Those

that are 20 % or Under blended the Adam Sandler

drew Barrymore film was at 14 % Oh Wow, yeah,

Tammy is a little higher than I said Tammy's

at 24 % I didn't even know that came out yet.

Yeah what? Yeah blended. Yeah transform extinction

18 % sex tape 18 % and so it goes 17 % into the

storm 20 % and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 20

% So those are the worst ones according to Rotten

Tomatoes, which brings us to a film that Nate

and I both saw I know Matt you have not seen

this you're a smarter man than we are Yeah, don't

waste your money my my my schedule didn't sync

up. It wasn't intentional that I didn't see it

It's good that you didn't you don't need to there's

no reason don't give don't give anyone more money

We'll try not to completely spoil it for you,

but we'll give a brief discussion of Kevin what?

dude Do we need to put up a spoiler warning?

We should just spoil it so that no one watches

it. Sabotage. Like, seriously. Hopefully everybody

that was going to watch it already watched it.

Seriously. Yeah. So no, it should make zero dollars

next weekend. I'm sorry. I went into this film

hoping I would like it, but I also went into

this film knowing that it was probably going

to be crap. And Michael Bay's name was attached

to it. I'm just kidding. He was just the producer.

But it was such a Michael Bay film though. It

was here's the things though. I told Nate this

when you are watching a movie and you're still

sitting in the theater and the movie is still

going on and in your head you're numbering a

list of Things that are wrong with the film.

That's not a good thing. No Like you're distracted

by how bad the movie is before the movies. I

was I always forget stuff like at the beginning

of the movie I'll be like, oh I need to remember

that so I can bring it up later and I'll forget

so I was like, oh that was a terrible thing and

I'm like, okay, that's one I'm gonna remember

that one and then like before I could even say

that I was like, oh, there's there's two I was

like trying to recite them in my head so I don't

forget them. I'm like, okay, so we got that that

that open here's another one and I was up to

like seven or eight by the time I stopped counting

and It's just all kinds of bad guys. We need

to start. We need to start bringing in like a

just like sketching out. Well, I think I just

would have drawn a piece of poop. Really, really,

really, really. That's what I've been writing

movies. Humor. It would have fit. Yeah, exactly.

There's just a lot of things bad with this film.

I apologize for. Let's talk about him. um well

before we get to that though the the first thing

i want to say is my feeling going into the film

as matt knows i usually do this my uh my thoughts

going into the film where i think this probably

has a great chance of being bad but since i have

no expectations maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised

hopefully i can get over megan fox and the style

of the turtles the two things that bothered me

the least in this film were probably the look

of the turtles and megan fox Okay. Like they

were so overshadowed by all the other things

that were bad about this movie that I didn't

even mind it. Like I didn't. I just. Right. You

know, Megan Fox could have been anybody. It doesn't

matter. She could have been any actress. It would

not have affected the film. Yeah, she's such

a nonentity in this movie. Like it's it's so

weird. She's the main character, but she barely

gets any like. Well, the things to do. The thing

is, it's funny because we were all joking forever

about the trailer and her never having any lines

and maybe she would just barely be in it. That

is quickly dispelled because she is the only

person in it for like the first half hour. Yeah.

And it's all just, you know, I want to be a good

reporter, so I'm going to go about it in the

stupidest way ever. Oh, my God. But the but yeah,

her and the look of the turtles actually ended

up not bothering me. Now you went into this film

hoping it was good, right? I went into this film

thinking, let's give it a chance. Let's let's

see what happens and then see what happens. And

then and then like immediately I was hit in the

face a few times by all the badness of it. Like

like probably a halfway in in the movie. I was

like done. I was like, OK, this is not good.

It won't get better. Except it did for a bit.

And then it got bad again. And I'll talk to you

about the good the one the one good scene I liked

in this movie. But. That'll be later. Yeah. To

get some of the stuff out of the way, that's

not necessarily spoiler material here. First

of all, it's always bad when there's like. A

family of people doing the writing. Yeah, there's

three writers in that might there is at least

three, three were credited. We were not exactly

sure how many actually had their hands on writing

this thing. But yeah, the writing is probably

my my hate most hated part of this movie, like

how dumb the script is. The script doesn't make

sense on any level. And OK, it's a Turtles movie.

It's about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We don't

have to like. Be a dick about it. Like, hey,

what? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that sounds

retarded. OK, let's make all the characters retarded

about it. Like, oh, yeah, it's so dumb. Yeah,

the the journey to get to Teenage Mutant Ninja

Turtles was not necessary. The explanation of

how they're going to we're turtles and we're

mutants or ninjas and we're. Teenagers mutant

teenage ninja turtles. Wait, that doesn't sound

good. That's just not necessary at all. And like

like the plot, they tried to do like the The

Amazing Spider -Man plot where it's all about

destiny or whatever. And like April O 'Neill

was a little kid and what? I don't know. Is that

too much spoiler? I shouldn't get into that yet.

I'm just mad that you're comparing this to Amazing

Spider -Man at all. Don't compare it to a good

movie. That's how you that's that's how you know

It's bad as if you can compare it to a good movie

and be like that's what it did wrong It was like

they took the the basic plot structure of amazing

spider -man 1 and they were like let's turn it

into April O 'Neil instead of Peter Parker and

give her Instead of giving her superpowers. Let's

give her pet turtles, okay? That they did they

made the turtles her pet turtles Yeah, that's

dumb. She fed him pizza when she was eight years

old. Oh, it's like a cuz she was a dumb little

kid Yeah, that's why they like it. Yeah Yeah,

so how hard were they trying 100 % too hard?

They even did the the the finale at the top of

the tower Where Larry they're gonna like disperse

chemicals on everyone? Oh geez They did the exact

same thing as Amazing Spider -Man. Do they knock

Shredder off the top of the tower and they're

like, that probably killed them and they don't

fight a body? No, that was literally the there

was like the only good part about this was occasionally

some of the action sequences. But then even those

like I was telling Nate off air, they almost

stole from the 1990s live action film where they're

on the rooftop and they're fighting. And it's

like literally. Yes identical where one turtle

tries to attack shredder and doesn't work then

another turtle tries to attack shredder and doesn't

work And then you know you basically all you

were missing was the dumpster that he was supposed

to fall in Crushes a thousand pieces of metal

that he apparently needed as part of his costume

the only thing that's different though was the

building was higher and There was no dumpster

though. That's like the literal only thing that

was different on the fight scene at the very

end but the fight scene in the mountains in the

snow there's like three fight scenes in this

whole movie and The kids that we went and saw

with a thousand kids and they were completely

disinterested Until the turtles started fighting

like it was it was really weird Yeah, I could

tell like no one was laughing at the jokes even

the fart joke didn't really get too many laughs

Which I'm I was surprised that has some movie

with Michael Bay's name threw in a fart joke

That's hard to believe. A couple non -spoiler

things that I can think of just right off the

top of the bat. First of all, things that are

wrong with this film. They have turtles, four

of them, and Splinter. These are all characters

that are in the film. These are all characters

that need someone to do voiceover work for them.

There is hundreds and hundreds of professional

voice actors. They decided to go with none of

them. The voice work of this is terrible. There's

a couple minor glimpses of hope for a couple

of the turtle voices, but overall, it's just

bad. Donatello is bad. Even Tony Shalhoub is

bad as the voice of Splinter and Splinter. What

do you mean? OK, another thing I don't understand.

Why is the splinter? Why does Splinter sound

like an Asian rat? When he was a lab rat in America?

and never encountered an Asian culture at all.

Because they knew, even though they didn't write

it like that, that Splinter was supposed to have

an Asian backstory. Like, like Matt, Matt. As

Leonardo. Oh, yeah. Yeah. No, I agree. He's using

a Leonardo voice sometimes and he's using Johnny

Knoxville voice sometimes. Yeah, that's just

weird. So that was bad. I don't know. There's

so much stuff they they. re Do They did the foot

clan so wrong Yeah, they're like a military group

and they're called the foot because they oppress

people with their with their big boot of oppression

They literally tried to why they're called the

foot clan by saying exactly what Nate's just

basically said And then it's a bunch of military

like said military guys wearing masks that sometimes

a couple guys aren't wearing masks and the other

ones look like masks like from people that would

rob a bank wearing like fake president masks.

Did they ever fight like hand -to -hand or was

it all guns? Yeah, they had guns. This movie

makes me mad more. Okay, wait, wait, wait. I

gotta real quick. Hey Matt. Yeah? Yeah, hope

you're listening guess how guess how the ditch

turtles learn ninjutsu They watch Josh Brolin

watch it on the TV No, no they splinter found

a book in the suit in the sewer about ninjutsu

is like I think that's a good idea probably Yeah,

he found a book and he taught himself and then

he taught the turtles He taught himself also

how to read as well. Yes, did that. Yeah. And

here's the best part is our villain. Not Shredder.

Mac Shrek. Our villain, the thing that our whole

story should revolve around, because that's the

one that's basically progressing the action.

Otherwise, we would just have turtles fighting

crime in New York. He is. built up as basically

one of the richest guys in the world he has a

corporation that has divisions in it um there's

sax global and there's sax whatever and there's

sax tv division and i don't know there's like

a thousand divisions in this guy's mega corporation

and he has his own skyscraper new york etc and

the reason he wants to do the main thing and

get the turtles and et cetera, et cetera, without

ruining it is so that he can get more money.

Yep, he wants to be rich, wants to be richer,

like like stupid rich. That's literally a line

from the motivation for our villain to become

more than the richest man already in the world.

Feel like they could make that even more heavy

-handed and make it like a class Warfare movie

if they wanted to but they didn't know no, dude

They didn't touch anything involving a theme

or Commentary on anything in this movie. There's

there's nothing deeper than turtles fight Thing

and I know transformers fans had a huge problem

in the bay movie verse of optimus primes faceplate

I feel like basically the same thing can be now

said about shredders faceplate Because if you

would have given me the shredder in the movie

would just like from a distance and all I could

see was the silhouette I would have been like

they got shredder perfect. Like that's exactly

what he should look like but as soon as you get

a close -up his faceplate is stupid and As soon

as he's got big he's got big arm You got big

blocky arms. And then he's got these arms that

have blades that come out of blades that come

out of blades that form blades that shoot blades

that you can throw at people. They essentially

turned him into a transformer. It was overkill.

You've heard good things about this transformer

movie thing. I seriously can't really outside

of a few moments from Michelangelo, even though

he was hot for Megan Fox. outside of a few funny

moments maybe from him. And they tried to make

an homage to the 90s movie in a couple of places,

like having pizza fall on Splinter's head. But

then they decided to also completely force product

placement. Not just there was it wasn't just

product placement. They were literally talking

about Pizza Hut and Orange Crush. Yeah. Like

they were like this pizza is from Pizza Hut and

it is the most delicious pizza you've ever eaten

and the turtles like we love Pizza Hut and then

Mikey's like drinking orange crush and he's like

I've hidden orange crush behind the refrigerator

don't tell Raphael it's so bad I The product

place and then and then like of course they're

gonna have the big Ending around I think it was

Times Square. Whatever maybe Maybe that's probably,

I mean, the same thing as Spider -Man 2. So much

product placement. And I don't know if I don't

know if that's intentional. We're like there,

you know, they're falling on a Toshiba thing,

but like. It's it's so annoying to see, like

if it's intentional and I'm mad at them and if

it's not intentional, then they should learn

that that stuff's annoying. And this is the point

where you would think we're done talking about

bad things about the turtles movie. What do you

got now? I mean, we did not talk about the shaky

cam. No, man, every all the camera angles in

this movie, all the sweeping, all the you know,

there was there was literally one still shot

in the whole movie. And it's probably the best

scene in the whole movie is when they're in the

elevator. And I think this is like online. Anyone

can see it. So go watch that little bit where

they're doing a little. They're doing like a

beatboxing thing in an elevator. That's the best

scene in the movie. That's the only scene that

you would probably not get seasick or motion

sick if you weren't already feeling nauseous.

Seriously, because the rest of it is just herky

jerky, sweeping big broad movements, also little

quick movements like you're following April issues,

running type things like like I was so upset

that they didn't when they were doing like fighting

scenes, they were just like doing standard fighting

scenes. They didn't even like Look at how you

know classic ninja or classic samurai classic

kung -fu movies How they actually compose shots

like in a movie like that? That's what I think

that they should do is you know pay homage to

classic cinema with you know that kind of that

kind of Editing and whatnot, but no it's just

Michael Bay doing like cookie -cutter. I mean,

I don't want to say Michael Bay because different

director, but It felt like a Michael Bay movie.

Well, you can say be scared anytime you see any

type of film that's going to be connected to

Jonathan Leavesman or however you say that guy's

name because he's the director and Yikes, we

didn't talk about a couple things What was your

Nate your impression of will will our net as

Vernon Fenwick and whoopie Goldberg as burn slash

Bernadette Thompson who was a whoop Okay, go

ahead. Well, I mean he was a he was the male

Vern Thompson from the cartoon now He's female

Bernadette Thompson Vernon Fenwick was in the

original cartoon, but a different completely

different type of character So what did you think

of Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg? The change

to Whoopi Goldberg didn't bother me, but Whoopi

Goldberg has as much screen time as she does

in the trailers Like she is a cameo at best Whatever.

Did you know that Baxter Stockman was in the

movie? Um, yes, I thought I remember someone

telling me that as who no, that's the character

Yeah, the character Baxter Stockman from the

cartoon the fly guy No, what was it was he one

of the scientists and I guess he must be he's

credited dr. Baxter Stockman is one of the characters

All right, that's fine. And here's a completely

waste of a character that's, I guess, their only

attempt to make also a connection to the later

cartoon series. What did you think of Karai?

Oh, she didn't do anything. She was a waste.

She was a complete waste. Like at first, like

I saw her and I was like, oh, she's kind of cool.

Maybe she'll do some cool stuff. Does she even

fight anyone? Not really. She literally every

time something happens. Yeah, she got hit on

the head and passed out. And then she went to

Splinter or Shredder, I mean, and was like, Shredder,

we didn't know that turtles happen. And then

Shredder's all like, you are not good. And then

and then she was gone for the entire rest of

the movie. They literally ignored all Asian parts

of the story except for Shredder and Karai. Yeah.

They give us no explanation as to why they're

there. So Shredder is Asian. Yeah. Oh, no. Wait,

Shredder Splinter. Shredder is Asian. Oh, cry

is Asian. Those are the only two Asians basically

in the film. And we have no even attempt to explain

why they're involved in this whole thing. Yeah,

there's like a he explains the backstory for

a second. But it's like basically, yeah, I used

to be in China and then my dad left me. And then

this guy raised me, raised me. So he's kind of

my dad with him. Johnny Whiteman isn't isn't

it? Splinter so shredder. No, no, he's not and

that's weird. I thought he was supposed to be

No, it was an Asian character. Okay individual

Wasn't he wasn't he supposed to be like in the

first when we first see in the trailers? No,

that was Yeah, fish there was supposed to be

it I thought that was just all kind of I guess

Diversion for us to think that that's who shredder

was even though it wasn't I think people that

have close to the rumors knew that Shredder wasn't

that character. But regardless, it really doesn't.

That's not a good backstory. It's not a good

explanation as to why he's involved and why he's

pissed off and trying to be involved in this

whole thing as well. Except there's literally

money to that that sex is going to give him if

this plan succeeds. Yeah. Like like Splinter.

I would. I mean, Shredder Shredder has no like

he's just like, I'm going to help the rich man

get richer and then we'll rule. the world What

do you want to do tomorrow night Pinky? Let's

just give this movie our ratings. I don't know

we're not done yet. We can't we'll go on and

on oh No, okay, Nate. What do you think one out

of five? one I'm with you Worthless don't watch

it. I still don't know though if it's the worst

film. I've seen this year Whoa, what's worse?

Hercules is pretty bad. The first one. Oh, that's

gonna say like don't you Transformers is pretty

bad. Haven't seen Transformers Godzilla was pretty

bad Godzilla was bad, but it was functional.

Yeah, Godzilla was probably better than one star

I don't know between turtles and Transformers.

It's a toss -up. I think Transformers might edge

it out By the skin of its teeth, but I could

be wrong. I'd probably have to rewatch them and

I won't do that This is a bad year for nostalgia

properties Except for Planet of the Apes Yeah,

but maybe that's a different type of Reboot or

whatever. I guess I don't know cuz I actually

are taking it serious and trying to make a good

movie Yeah coming attractions coming out on Blu

-ray this week Lot of TV series there is a a

couple films. I thought that Muppets most wanted

Cool comes out the railway man That's about it

for as far as like the newer films anything else

that you guys saw that you want to grab out run

out and buy or your Nate make it happen The toxic

of what are you talking about toxic Avenger?

Yeah, it's funny It's listed. Yeah, it's listed

under adventure family, which is hilarious because

it's super already the 1998 version of the Avengers

on Blu -ray. Yeah, I never heard of that. That's

like a that's it's like a Britishie show, right?

Yeah. For animated animation lovers, you got

the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad special

edition combo pack Blu -ray and Hercules special

edition combo pack Blu -ray. All right. and Tarzan

Special Edition Combo Pack Blu -ray. Apparently

that's the thing that Disney's doing. Good. Special

Edition Combo Pack Blu -rays. Any other releases

that you guys are interested in? No. All right.

Good. Theater releases this week. Let's be cops.

No. Cops. The Giver. OK. And. Expendables three

it's just expendables three or is it the expendables

three? Okay, also coming out in limited release

Frank Okay, I want you We're not gonna get it.

I want Frank. It's getting good reviews, and

I want life after Beth life after Beth also um

I don't know if I actually want to see life after

Beth I want to see the trailer for it And that's

what I'm waiting for this to get over with because

I didn't know it existed until now question for

predictions for next week Out of the three new

films, let's be cops the big ones bucks be cops

Expendables 3 and the giver which one will be

the other ones in the box office But unfortunately,

let's be good. It's gonna be the expense really

you really I don't know. Yeah, or Well, I'm going

to be number one I'm hoping Guardians of Galaxy

will go back to number one, but I'm pretty sure

Expendables 3 is gonna beat it out by a little

bit We'll see though a little bit only made 40

million this week. It's probably gonna make 30

or less next week Yeah, and if the expendables

3 makes less than 50 million dollars, I don't

know if it's gonna make its budget Will that

be a bad thing? I don't know. I liked the first

one. Have you guys seen any of them? I've seen

the red ones. I've seen the red franchise. I

have not seen the expendables ones I need to

watch it eventually like I've seen the expendables

too I'm all for seeing the first one and the

second one and the first one was solid like Hey,

my only problem with that is there's a fight

between like Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren and Jet

Li just doesn't own his ass hard Which would

have been you know bad for like it wouldn't have

been a very dramatic scene if it were the other

way The the expendable series like from what

I saw from the second one like it was a lot of

in jokes And I don't know all the properties

That they're making jokes about Cuz it's like

oh you you you look the Terminator something

and then never seen the Terminator. I've seen

well, I've seen The Terminator you haven't seen

the Terminator I've never finished the Terminator

have you seen Terminator 2 I? Have not you're

dead finished Terminator 2. Holy shit to me.

We've talked about this before I have not watched

them I try to watch them once and then we got

distracted In your basement this year. Yeah,

and then it got distraction and we didn't finish

it. Were you fiddling with his things again?

I fiddle with my things. What are you talking

about? Said you got distracted. He made it way

dirtier than it was. Only a little bit dirtier

than it was. I'm sorry. As far as the credit

conversation, last week you guys asked about

genres that you actively stay away from. Because

obviously Matt, you, like me, stay away from

the horror genre. I stay away from all scary

movies. I am a little different. You stay away

from all scary films. My thing is I stay away

from all gory films. Yeah i don't like gore i

can't stand it's a psychological thriller. Or

something like that i'll give i may give it a

chance or if it's just a stupid horror film like.

This is a bad example cuz i'm definitely afraid

of spiders but like arachnophobia or something

like that trimmers anything with like killer

bees or ants or bugs or something like that that's

fine i just don't like the slasher gory horror

films and i don't. Was an action movie nate and

i also don't like the. the like, I don't want

to call it supernatural, but that horror genre

of it's all like, crazy spirits and devils and

demons and stuff doing crazy stuff. And like,

if I want to see that, I'd rather see it in like

a fantasy or like, some other. I don't know.

I don't know why. Because I don't mind it like

if it's like a vampire film or if it's like a

That type of film. But if it's a horror film

and they're all going about like playing doing

the Ouija board and all that kind of stuff, I

stay away from that. I'm I'm way more into that,

though. I like I like spirits and ghosts because

like it's it's fun to fantasize about because

like I like 100 percent do not believe in ghosts.

Yeah. So it's just I don't know. It's it's like

spooky. I know way too many people. Some other

films that people stay away from, Justin Washington,

Supernatural Teen Romances. Which is a new genre.

I stay away from... That's just it. Because of

Twilight's success, it's become a thing. It's

even a section at our local Barnes and Nobles.

I have the pictures to prove it. Paranormal Teen

Romance. God. Our celebrity friend, Freddie Savage,

anything that's Oscar -baity, which... Really?

If you say that fast, you could come up with

something different. What else did people mention?

I think there's a couple agreements with the

horror film. If not, it was just me, I guess.

No, TFJ1Mike says he's got a low tolerance for

the blood and guts. One of the things we have

in common. Spoof comedies. I like that guy because

these vague genre spoof movies that have come

out are so bad. Like they're just lost track

of them. They're so terrible. So free laughs

that aren't funny, except for the lowest common

denominator. And it's like they're called haunted

house two or something like that. There are good

spoof movies. Like you look at these ones and

you're like, I don't even know how you could

even make a good one. But like, yeah, you look

at like spaceballs and airplanes. Robin Hood,

Men in Tights. Robin Hood, Men in Tights. They're

all in Blazing Saddles. There was a spoof. It's

like a spoof of the Western genre spoof movies

out there. But very few are made now. Yeah. Very

few are made in general, actually. It's so ridiculous.

I actually watched one of them recently. I watched

and I. I wouldn't mention this unless we brought

it up I watched the starving games instead of

the hunger games and it's like like literally

they watch the movie the hunger games and they

go huh wouldn't be funny if we threw a fart joke

in right there and then they do it it's ridiculous

like there's no skill involved I could write

a spoof movie in in a day And then we also have

somebody a super fan film super fan film Super

film fan. I don't even know what if I'm saying

that right? I'm not looking at the page, but

I know he mentioned stuff like sharknado and

that type of Subgenre that I like those Don't

know like whenever whenever sci -fi has a movie

like whenever I'm on the my parents place flip

to the channels I see sci -fi is starting a sci

-fi original. I'm almost always tuning in It's

like sharknado, which I guess sharknado wasn't

exactly made for sci -fi was it I think it was

okay. You got like sharknado I actually have,

I buy the packs when they come out with the five

sci -fi movies. I've got some really good ones.

I've seen the, like, the Mega Shark and shit

like that. But it's like, I don't know, I'm always,

I'm always interested to see just what they're

doing. And it's like, it's always a question,

because he said he hates that they know they're

bad and they're trying to be bad. I don't know

if that's always true, because sometimes it's

like, well maybe they gave 100 % and this is

just what their 100 % is. See I'm way more into

movies where Like bet like if they're a bad movie

that the people went in thinking that it was

a good movie That is way more entertaining entertaining

for me But if they're just trying to make a bad

movie because they know that bad movies is kind

of a fad now Then that that turns me off immediately

Fair enough Yeah, I don't know if I have one

outside of like I said the horror slash or gory

film that I would stay away from myself We skipped

it earlier as listed in our news section. I wanted

to come back to it after we had talked about

everything else. But we would be remiss if we

did not talk about it. And that would be, of

course, I guess somewhat timely since we're recording

this right now. Less than 48 hours since it happened.

But obviously the death of Robin Williams has

been talked about a lot recently. We have multiple

ways that you can Kind of have a part of people

reminiscing or talking about it. There's a movie

revolt Dan put a blog up on the website immediately

That you can read. It's a pretty well Well written

short little blog about Robin Williams. There

was also a kind of a special podcast that was

done as a crossover between Talking about talking

I'm gonna get it wrong talking about our generation

podcast guys And Steve and Mike they did a podcast

last night that you can go in and view It's it's

TFU and Mike Steve Megatron Phillips and Doug

Abel from talking about my generation So they

put that up there last night Soon to get get

all that but we should also talk about it here

since we are a movie podcast I guess Just real

quickly, maybe Matt, what was your first thoughts

when you heard the news? What is were you a fan

of Robin Williams? If so, what are some of your

favorite roles that he did just kind of reflect

on that whole piece of news? Well, everyone,

everyone heard the news in different places.

Of course, I I work third shift. So like I got

a text from my girlfriend, like like all it was

was just a link to a Huffington Post article.

And you know, I woke up and I was like, ugh,

I'm tired. And I looked at my phone and it was

like, I had three messages. I was like, three

messages, that's uncommon. And I opened up that

one and it was just like, Robin Williams found

dead. And I was like, okay, I'm gonna go back

to bed. And then like, I just, I laid there for

20 minutes like, I can't go back to bed. Robin

Williams is dead. Like, you know, it's like,

I couldn't tell you the last new Robin Williams

movie I saw. But like, it still really affected

me. Like, I don't know. You know, I get people

die every year. And it's like, you know, Philip

Seymour Hoffman was great. And who's the other

guy? Tony Soprano. You know, they're great actors

or whatever. But it's like, I don't have the

connection that I have with Robin Williams, you

know? Like, I grew up, I watched Jumanji. I watched

Mrs. Doubtfire. Though I can't say anything is

he's made in the last 10 years has really piqued

my interest Like I can still go back to his like

80s comedy albums and listen to them all day

like He was he was amazing and he was a genius

and I loved everything I've seen him in even

if not everything was interesting enough for

me to seek out I I was actually warming up for

a softball game and somebody told me I think

I had the similar reaction to Don't know I want

to say like a majority of 80 90 percent of people

out there who all thought it was a joke at first

or that someone was trying to trick on where

it was some type of You know prank or whatever

like I think most people that heard this news

did not believe it the first time Which obviously

is because it's something that it's kind of hard

to wrap your wrap your head around I guess but

uh for me I mean I've been a movie fan for a

long time not that everybody's not movie fans,

but I mean I remember in I want to say like,

it might have been middle school or it might

have been in like fourth or fifth grade or something,

kind of when the internet and PowerPoint and

stuff like that was somewhat of a new thing.

And I remember one time making like my own little

web page, even though nobody could really get

to it. Probably one of those, what did you make

web pages on back in the day? It was GeoCities

and I had one that was just my top 10 favorite

actors and actresses. I don't know, I was stupid

and a kid and I wanted to make a list and put

it out there. And the way that this one affects

me is like, yes, there's been a lot of famous

actors and actresses that have died, as well

as other celebrities, etc. But like, he would

like literally, this is akin to I mean, he was

on my list of top 10 favorite actors. He was

near number one, like it was People like Mel

Gibson, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford, James

Earl Jones, Robin Williams, Robert De Niro. These

are people like, there's never been someone that

was literally in my favorite actors or favorite

singers. It's always been people that I respected

and that I enjoyed, but not one of my favorite

actors. And it's funny that, Nate, that you brought

it up last week of how much I like Robin Williams.

on the podcast, but like this is literally someone

that's always been in my top five favorite actors

probably of all time. So it like Matt said, it's

just something that's like really like, ah, like,

are you serious? And you mentioned, you know,

some of the stuff growing up with, you know,

with some of the films you mentioned also, obviously

Aladdin, I think his voice work on Aladdin is

probably one of the best voice performances of

all time. If you were going to like make a list

of top 100 vocal performances in any movie like

he would have to be near the top if not number

one. I remember you know stuff like Good Morning

Vietnam, obviously Good Will Hunting, What Dreams

May Come was one that some people have been talking

about recently even with his other stuff like

One Hour Photo and Insomnia I thought was interesting.

You know Dan said that The movie that came out

this year, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, is underrated

and is a pretty good film to check out. He does

have three films that will yet to be released.

A film called Merry Friggin' Christmas, a film

that he does voice work called Absolutely Anything,

and then of course the Night at the Museum, Secret

of the Tomb, which he does, the whole Theodore

Roosevelt act. So those will still be out there.

Nate, what was your reaction? I didn't believe

it at first well no cuz you sent me a text saying

that right that was the first I heard of it,

and I was like what that's crazy because you

know like I Understood he had issues with drugs

in the past. I didn't know he was still dealing

with anything I don't know if he was but it's

just it's it was like it These types of like

deaths always hit you like by surprise in the

worst way. I also did not realize he was only

63 Yeah, that's really any I mean for some reason

I thought he was older That's really young and

he could have like I don't know I feel I wish

that you know He wasn't gone, but and he could

have been he could have been doing a lot more

stuff And honestly, some of my favorite stuff

even outside of his film. So I think one of my

favorite things to see of Robin Williams was

just Robin Williams on any type of late night

talk show. Yeah, Robin Williams as a guest on

any type of talk show was absolutely something

to just something of you and something to just

be like astonished with because the host would

literally not ask a single question and Robin

Williams would hold the stage for like 20 minutes.

Like that was one of his strongest things was

though he was a great actor, he was so witty

and intelligent. He could just think on the top

of his head and just do whatever. And he could

just go for hours. And half the fun was trying

to catch up with everything that he has said

and all the different funny things that have

happened in the last couple of minutes. Because

he's going way faster than you can to even try

to keep up with everything he's doing. I don't

know. Go ahead. Have you ever seen the inside

the actress who is with him? I think parts of

it. OK, because that's that's amazing. Like that

is just pure like energy from Robin Williams

for like an hour or so. And that's not even talking

about his actual standup, his TV work, obviously

more committee, et cetera. You know, he did a

lot of early stuff like laughing Richard Pryor

show, whether it be writing or appearing on some

of that stuff. So, I mean just a huge body of

work if you took all the TV shows all the the

movies his recent run with the crazy ones Which

was nominated for some awards? Just aired until

this last year if you had to pick Some of your

if you had to pick a favorite film or a favorite

role or a favorite character He did could you

could you narrow it down Nate? Jack or I mean

not Jack Hook yeah Yeah, Peter Pan. What about

you, Matt? Honestly, no. It's kind of hard. It

is. Like, I mean, I loved Hook. I loved Aladdin.

I loved Jumanji. I could say, if anything, Jumanji

was one of the like three or four VHSs I ever

bought with strictly my own money. Wow. So I

could say that that, you know, if you want to

give it to him, it's that. He was obviously nominated

for a bunch of awards. Especially I think most

people would probably go to his role as Professor

Keating in Goodwill Hunting. A lot of people

quoting lines from that film that somewhat can

kind of resonate with what happened. I don't

know, I guess if I had to narrow it down maybe

I'd go with Genie from Aladdin just because I

think it's such a ridiculous Achievement as to

what all he I wish I wish I could have been a

person in the room when they were recording that

Because wonder if they have any footage and to

actually see the script that he was working with

compared to what he came up with Because that

would be crazy because I'm guarantee half that

stuff was just all him, you know improving Yeah,

I mean that character was uniquely him right

so man it's a tough one it's a tough one to uh

to swallow and to come to terms with um that

we're not gonna see anymore and i know kind of

like what you're saying matt where there hasn't

been a lot recently that's been of the same vein

that is the stuff that we grew up with or stuff

that we remember not to say that there isn't

some gems in there somewhere or that there isn't

uh stuff there but not as much stuff that maybe

piqued a lot of people's interest that grew up

enjoying him um But still that you know there

was always that chance to see him in something

else or to see him appear on a late night Show

or just to see him do him be funny and unfortunately,

you know, he wasn't able to to Receive the same

joy from what he did that he provided for all

of us Any any last things you want to say on

the subject Nate? No, I don't know it's just

sad Don't say I've met any last words about the

yeah, I got one thing The the Huffington Post

article that I read about him said that he was

a he was an avid video gamer Which is something

I didn't know but I suspected based on One video

that I suggest everyone go out and look for which

is they sat him down with the spore creature

creator back when spore was just coming out and

they literally were like here is this thing you

can create any creature in it and he just was

Robin Williams all over that thing. And if you

want to just smile and cry at the same time,

go search that out. Spore Creature Created Robin

Williams on YouTube. I'm sure it's still there.

And if you want to get some stuff off your chest

about what's your favorite. performance of his?

What's your favorite character that he played?

What's his favorite movie that he appeared in

that touched you the most or that made you a

Robin Williams fan? That can be our question

for next week. So give us what your favorite

role or favorite memory or favorite scene that

you've ever seen him in or just sound off on

whatever you want to talk about concerning Robin

Williams. Leave it in the on the episode post

and we'll respond to that and hopefully get in

on a little bit of conversation to try to share

our memories of Robin Williams as well. um so

our posts and you can get in on the conversations

there. Visit the Facebook page by searching out

GeekCast Radio Network and you can always get

in touch with all of us on Twitter. Matt, what

would be your Twitter handle? My Twitter handle

is at FridleySent. One more thing I want to say,

I didn't really find a good time to insert it

before now. Last week I said Robert Duvall when

I met Robert Redford. Correction. When I was

talking about the cast of The Sting. Okay. You

are forgiven. Nate, Twitter. And then you can

also follow me at Optimus Solo and help me defend

myself against people that are upset that I said

not horrible things about Star Trek into darkness.

I apologize for upsetting the Twitter world with

those comments. I'm just kidding. You had mentioned

a couple of weeks ago, Matt, that we had not

checked iTunes recently. Yeah, or any. What's

that? I mentioned that last week and a month

ago and a month ago. So I think we can somewhat

rectify that because you said the last review

that we had gotten was December and there has

been one. Yay. Since then, it was a good review.

Let's start with that. The last one was from

July 8th. So we have just gotten one about a

month ago. So you're right. The one that was

from before that was back in December. So now

we have one from July 2014. It's actually a five

star review. Wow. It says I've written a few

reviews now for podcasts on GCRN and this is

one of their better ones. I enjoy what they call

the MWIRE weekly episodes. Now named we connect

the movies. He says I enjoy what they call the

weekly episodes the best. Awesome. Good place.

They get caught up on movie news. Some of the

reviews are okay, too, for the most part. Okay.

They tend to be best when covering comic book

movies, but even movies like 12 Years a Slave

and Her, they did a great job on. I love that

they cover all types of movies and not just what

you would expect for a geek show. So yeah, it

was a great review there from Man in Time. So

thank you, Man in Time. and hopefully you are

just the beginning of a few more iTunes reviews

so that people know. Currently the show under

all things, I guess, MWIRE has 29 ratings and

we're at a four and a half star on iTunes. If

you though go to our specific one now, which

is the new Weekend at the Movies, I don't think

we have any reviews under that feed yet. So be

the first and we will read it on air. That said,

two hours ago no one knew that existed but you.

Correct, but now it exists and it has an itune

feed to prove it So that is it for us. Oh, so

do we have to? Subscribe to a different feed

that is a good question. Let me See if I can

figure that out here Let me get you the direct

Nope not weekend at Bernie's not weekend at Bernie's

That is an okay movie geek cast radio network

Why are you so slow iTunes? It's Geekcast Radio

Network weekend at the movies and currently we

have no ratings. Do we have any episodes? It

backlogs us to all of 2014 from when MWIRE Weekly

apparently started in 2014. The first episode

listed is January 19th. I enjoy that the logo

has five stars but not fully filled in. Not inaccurate.

So yeah, so help us fill in those stars I guess

so we can change our logo or something. So I

guess subscribe to a new feed, Weekend at the

Movies, and that'll be what we do from now on.

So that's it. Remember, for all things movies,

keep tuned to Weekend at the Movies. We don't

read and write poetry because it's cute. We read

and write poetry because we are members of the

human race. And the human race is filled with

passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering,

these are noble pursuits, necessary to sustain

life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these

are what we stay alive for. The quote from Whitman.

O life of the questions of these recurring, Of

the endless trains of the faithless, Of cities

filled with the foolish, What good amid these,

O me, O life? Answer, that you are here, That

life exists and identity, That the powerful play

goes on, And you may contribute a verse. If the

powerful play goes on, then you may contribute

a verse. What will your verse be?
