About this Episode

The hosts wrap up IDW's Showtime arc with a deep dive into issue #6, where the Holograms get disqualified from the Battle of the Bands but find an alternate way to perform and steal the audience from the Misfits. They discuss Sophie Campbell's standout artwork, Kelly Thompson's storytelling choices, and the emotional weight of the issue's closing moments. The episode includes exclusive audio clips from voice actors Samantha Newark and Patricia Alice Albright.

This episode of The Pull Bag was recorded Wednesday,

September 2nd, 2015. I am one of your hosts,

TFG1Mike, and we're about to have a truly outrageous

time here inside The Pull Bag and on Showtime

Synergy, because myself, Lady Rack, and Beatles

Diva are going to be reviewing Gem of the Holograms

issue number six from IDW Publishing. This closes

out the Showtime arc of the comic, so the first

six months of the comic are behind us. We're

going to be giving you our thoughts on where

the story has taken us so far. We're going to

be reviewing the comic in itself. But first,

a word from Pizzazz. Oh, Stormer. From the looks

of Kimber, I don't have anything to worry about.

But this is your last warning. You see that girl

socially again, and you're out of the Misfits.

Inside the pool bags gem reviews because it's

showtime synergy. That's right folks pizzazz

is actually inside the pool bag with us I am

your host TFG and Mike joining me are my misfit

gals lady rec hello and Nicole hello Aloha and

Ladies and gentlemen you might be wondering what

in the world that pizzazz clip was that was actually

an exclusive preview of the Samantha Newark Patricia

Alice Albright, I think I'm saying her name right.

I'm sorry if I'm not I'm not looking at any info

Jim the voice of Jim and the voice of pizzazz

have actually put a CD together of Various really

awesome truly outrageous lines from the first

six issues of the IDW publishing Jim and the

holograms comic book Sam sent over her her web

guy Willie sent over a couple of clips the first

one you just heard uh... which is actually something

from issue six the final uh... part of the showtime

arc and uh... you're gonna hear an exclusive

clip just for this podcast here in a moment uh...

from from jim herself so folks what we're gonna

do here is we're gonna talk about issue number

six after that we're gonna talk about how we

feel the first dark really played off We're going

to tease up the Kelly Thompson interview that's

going to come out later this week. And then,

at the end, we'll remind you where you can get

a certain piece of merchandise. I'm going to

actually say that right now. If you head on over

to samanthanewark .com, go to her store, go under

comics, the very first pre -order is the autographed

Gem and the Holograms subscription cover number

six issue. It's going to be autographed by Jim

and Pizzazz. This bundle actually gets you an

autographed comic and the exclusive CD for $35.

I've already pre -ordered mine. After shipping

it was $42. That's not bad at all for an I mean

you're really paying for the autograph I know

some people would be like oh the But we can just

go get the comic at a comic, but you're really

paying for the autograph in the CD It's not really

that you're paying that much money for the cotton

foot for the comic itself, but it's it's really

really awesome As of this recording, I'm actually

still waiting on my autograph for number five

subscription cover to show up with the Rockin'

Roadster and Jem and Rio on it. I was hoping...

Shut up. I was hoping. Shut up! Don't even say

anything about something that hasn't even come

out yet. I mean, we all know. We all know my

obsession with the Roadster, but it's, you know,

it's just like Nicole's hatred of Rio from the

cartoon. Anyway. Now I've got to find my click.

Oh, no. So I was hoping that would show up by

this recording sadly it hasn't damn you USPS

Anyway But anyway Roundabout way of saying head

on over to Samantha new work comm go to the store

pre -order the comic with the CD you're gonna

get the autographed comic plus the CD and I've

never really seen any property that IDW has that

does as much with it that Samantha does with

the gem stuff because issue number five is autographed

by her and Michael Sheehan who I believe it's

Michael Sheehan again I'm not looking at anything

I should be basically the voices of Jim and Rio

and you know That's autographed by the two of

them. Issue number six is autographed by her

and Pizzaz. It's very, very awesome that she

is able to do this stuff for the fans. So head

on over there, pre -order your issue, autographed

issue number six with exclusive CD. And we are

going to get to issue number six. Now this actually,

this podcast is actually going to come out on

the day of release for Jim and the Holograms

issue number six. so there are massive spoilers

ahead folks so if you haven't had a chance to

read issue number six yet if you haven't had

a chance to go to your comic shop turn the show

off right now go to your comic shop or go to

comics ology or wherever and get a copy of issue

number six and read the final story arc for the

Showtime arc here from IDW Publishing. It's a

good time to be a Gem fan this week. Oh yeah,

absolutely. So without any further ado, here

is our exclusive clip from Gem herself, a piece

of audio, a quote from issue number six. We'll

be back after this truly outrageous break. care

of my sisters and you have work to do we are

here and it is time to spoil the heck out of

gem in the holograms issue number six this issue

really surprised me it really really did because

I wasn't sure where the heck They were going

to go on ending the arc, and I'm really glad

they went the route that they had gone because

it is pretty awesome. I honestly have no idea

what to expect next from issues 7, 8, and 9.

It'll be awesome. Yeah. Alright, so... Or better

yet, it'll be truly outrageous. I see what you

did there. There we go, all right, so we should

pick a cover we have three covers this time around

Cover a the regular cover is done by Sophie Campbell

the subscription cover is done by Sarah Richard

and the Retail incentive cover is done by Tommy

Lee Edwards Nicole pick a cover They each have

their own uniqueness to it. But I actually like

the Tommy Lee Edwards one, the whole Woodstock

pizzazz kind of thing. I love it. It speaks out

to the hippie in me. I really enjoy it. You're

too young to be a hippie. Come on. My favorite

bands are all from the 60s and 70s. The Beatles.

the monkeys queen the doors are yeah oh boy yep

i'm a hippie yeah what about you i mean take

a cover i'm gonna have to say i really liked

that one too nicole and it's probably because

i've never seen anything like it before um i

i don't read a lot of comic books and so the

art just seems really retro to me and i was like

oh i really like that i'm really digging it the

more i look at it the more it's just got so many

dimensions to it that I just I'm loving it and

so I I had to say I absolutely really like that

one if I was to pick a second one I always like

um all of uh Sophie's covers so I mean if I if

I can't get a good reason not to pick her cover

I was like I really like all of her covers too

but just because of the uniqueness of Tommy Lee

Edwards His cover is just so unique. I haven't

seen anything like it in the gem stuff yet. I'm

gonna pick that one Yeah, absolutely pays to

be unique sometimes, you know, you just totally

stand out from the rest of the crowd. Boom. There

you go Yes, yes it does. It wasn't until co -creator

of the GCR and Steve Megatron at SCP -21 on Twitter,

it wasn't until he made the banner for the pull

bag for the featured banner for the art that's

going to go in our little featured slider to

promote this episode of the podcast. It wasn't

until he did that that I really, that Sophie's

cover really grew on me because the way he did

it and you guys can look at it in the post on

GeekCastRadio .com is He zoomed in on her face

and focused in on her eyes. So it's it's a super

zoom in on the pizzazz face and like you're getting

a glare from. Yeah, it's like she's looking right

through you. Yeah, she's looking at your soul.

She's going to steal it. And skulls in her eyes,

right? Even though they're not there, they're

implied. They're implied, yeah. Can't believe

you know I said it looks like she's looking right

through you, and I can't believe I'm going to

have to oh At some point put an Avril Lavigne

clip in here Well right through you was one of

Avril's where it actually says I'm not arguing

that I never said that heaven forbid I ever I

might be crazy but I'm not that crazy all right

so to get the the creative out of the way we've

got written by Kelly Thompson art by Sophie Campbell

the story is by Thompson and Campbell together

colors are done by m Victoria Roboto letters

by Tom B long and of course edits by the captain

and continuity himself John Barber We open up

with the previously page where we see the first

meeting of Jim and the hologram, actually Jerrica

and the holograms and the misfits. Show off,

show down, show down. We're going to start, you

know, snapping our fingers and singing West Side

Story. The sharks and the jets. Yeah. Yep. Pretty

much. And if everyone remembers at the end of

issue five of the comic it ended with a food

fight. That is where this one picks up. For the

guest list obviously Jem and Jerika, Kimber,

Shayna, Aja, Rio, Pizzaz, Jedha, Stormer, Roxy,

Clash and Blaze. And the first page is by far

one of the most unique pages in comics that I

have ever seen. I don't think I've, I don't think

I've ever seen a sort of police lineup in any

comic I've ever read since I've been reading

comics since 2012. This really does look, I mean,

all is, all is, all is Sophie really needed to

do was to put the height lines behind. I'd love

it though. That yeah, I love how the whole food

fight was based around clash and she didn't get

an ounce of food on her Some of the holograms

kind of missed a little bit of food Like it doesn't

seem like Jerrica and Shayna really got that

plowed, but it's okay Not too bad at least yeah

Well pizzazz has pie in her face I Really think

Jetta has it the worst honestly Yeah covered

from head to toe Yeah, but I mean as far as like

the facial stuff yes Roxy does have it head to

toe but I mean Jetta it It's like it's an it's

like it's an extension of her hair or something

because it's all over her face Like you can only

see her somebody got her with chocolate cake.

Yeah So the opening part of the story here is

they're in front of the Starlight Foundation

board and apparently You're not supposed to start

food fights, you're not supposed to do acts of

aggression and you could get kicked out of the

contest And Kimber goes to point out, but they

friggin tried to kill us And I Wasn't sure how

this was gonna play out whether they were just

going to Kick them out or what what the what

pizzazz and the Misfits were gonna do I was actually

surprised that Pizzazz said, no, no, it's okay.

They can stay in. You know, Pizzazz, yeah, she's

a pain in the rear, but she is wanting a competition.

She wants to show off to the world. She is the

best that's out there because she honestly believes

it. And she wants the best to compete with so

she could show up the best, you know? It's more

than that. She, after this, she wants to destroy

them on stage. Yeah. She wants to humiliate them.

And the only way she can do that is if they are

on stage with her. Absolutely. So we get to that

part. I'm wondering since obviously the board

members are not going to call her Pizzaz, they

call her obviously Ms. Gabor, at this point now

that the Showtime arc is ending here, I'm wondering

when they're going to introduce her dad. Oh,

that would be cool. Yeah, I mean, I'm not saying

that that they need to at all. I'm just wondering

if they ever will. Well, let's just say we got

to this page where she was like, no, no, they

have to be able to stay in. I thought, oh, no,

the next page is going to be her going to her

dad going daddy. And I wasn't so sure I wanted

to see that yet. I was like, hmm, I don't know

if I want them to do that yet. and then I thought

well is this pizzazz that type of pizzazz I don't

know I'm like I'm not against it but I'm not

like going huh I don't know we'll see so I'm

like the whole daddy and I thought hmm do I want

that to happen right now and then it didn't happen

I was like okay this is good this is good it's

something new it's something fresh I I wouldn't

mind seeing something different so so we get

to a point where the misfits are gonna get cleaned

up and and come back and you know fierce as ever

and uh stormer asks class it clash if she did

do what the hologram say she did and pizzazz

just jumps right on her and says no do not answer

that we don't know anything so i do like that

this pizzazz honestly I love a lot smarter than

the other one She's seen her dad since she was

little probably working the board and stuff and

so she knows What she needs to do what they need

to say because she doesn't know anything. She

can't get in trouble for it. Yeah Yeah, and attempted

murder you could get pretty much a big trouble

for that Yeah, I think I don't think this is

gonna be like the cartoon where they just like

sweep it under the rug there Well, that means

Roxy will be in jail soon enough So we get the

misfits falling out and we get Stormer trying

to call Kimber and we see that Kimber declines

the call How are you guys feeling about the misfits?

The art style from Sophie so far I love it With

all the close -ups and everything. Oh, I love

it. It's a lot of fun Because I mean with pizzazz

She's an in -your -face person. So when you get

that close -up pizzazz you feel like she's right

there in your own face Like okay, she means business

absolutely so we get over to the hologram side

and it's Kimber and Jerrica and Rio Kimbers in

the band in the van sighing like Pepe Le Pew

over there You know, she's trying to get her

sister's attention. She wants to have her attention

diverted to her, and she's not getting it just

yet. What do you think of the interaction here

with Jerrica and Rio? It's good. It does not

annoy me. I gotta admit, Kelly is making me Enjoy

quote -unquote enjoy this Rio. I don't want to

bitch slap him. Let's just say that It's a typical

relationship, you know She's holding a secret.

He could tell there's something going on and

it yeah, eventually it's gonna come out He's

pushing all the right buttons to find out about

Jim. I mean not that he wants to know about her

He's like look she she's a problem I don't know

if you guys want to really have her in your band

if she's gonna be like this diva she's gonna

rip everything apart and And you know, it's good

because it's like he's dead set on look. I like

you guys I think you're great, but I don't want

to see you fail and she's gonna pull you down

and I think that You know at this point That's

like the unintended consequence of her creating

gem, you know Is that somebody that's gonna latch

on to that? You know, I could easily think of

a way that could be like perfect She could have

just said hey, I'm the manager and I told her

to go home And she could take all responsibility

for that. She doesn't so I mean, it's like she's

not trying to protect her but yet she's like

I think it's kind of truly annoying her that

he's like all against her. And she's like, what?

Wait a minute. I, you know, you know. Well, you

got to understand. He's been working with the

Misfits, it sounds like, for a while. So he knows

a lot about divas, you know. So he probably doesn't

want to see this new band. Who he sounds like

he wants them to be successful, not to have to

deal with the drama that Misfits have gone through.

So after the cleanup scene we get back to where

all four of the holograms are on their couch

and they're going through the fact that Kimber

is dating Stormer and She goes on and on about

how oh it really isn't any of your business and

yada yada yada Thank you Ladies and gentlemen,

we might have an interrupting baby throughout

this entire show. Oh, he'll only be just making

little moans Hopefully He laughs whenever I laugh,

so I'm sorry so basically they work this out

where it's like, you know, they all come out

and talk about the fact that she's dating stormer

from the Misfits and You know, why did you keep

this a secret from us? And okay. No more secrets

from here on out and I wish and I hope maybe

when When I'm actually able to read this on comixology

.com because right now we're going through the

IDW preview or review copy I hope I'm actually

able to see what the heck is on the cell phone

in the bottom right -hand panel. I'm pretty much

zoomed in almost all the way. The only thing

I can see is Stormer today. I'm calling you,

please pick up. It's a bunch of text from Stormer,

but I want to see what else they say because

I can only make out a few of them. Okay, so it

says, I'm calling you, please pick up. Kimber,

please answer. Let me explain. Please answer.

Are you there? Please text me back Kimber frowny

face So we have like every Let's see 445 448

448 503 515 520 Yeah, like every five minutes,

she's like, please, please, please, please. Every

two to five minutes, yeah. We get to the next

page, and it's kind of a transitional page. They

kind of say, well, maybe Stormer didn't know

about all this stuff, and maybe Stormer didn't

know that the stage was rigged or whatever. And

I absolutely love is how Kelly... and Sophie

are able to transition from this whole drama

into them having fun again. Yeah, I really like

that. Because, and as you guys will find out

on Friday this week, Aja is Kelly's favorite

character to write for and one of the lines is

from Aja, I don't know about you guys, but I

don't have all day to talk about Kimber's flailing,

not failing, flailing love life. It's like, oh

my God, shut up and hits her with a pillow. I

love it. And I also have to say here, I really

like since we've talked about hair in the past,

I love this hair in this. It looks like it quite

literally in all of them. It looks like this,

that they just they just got showered. And her

hair is just like, like it's fluffy. It looks

fluffy. I want to put my hand in her hair and

just rub it around and go, it's so fly! I love

Aja's hair, though. It's just great. I don't

know whether to put a stitch clip in here or

Agnes from Despicable Me. It's so fly! And the

coolest thing is, though, and actually this will

come up in the interview, I think. Oz's hair

is very Sonic the Hedgehog inspired because it's

really spiky looking Not spiky as in like all

standing up like a Bart Simpson kind of look

but just spiky flowing backwards It really does

look like she's got a hedgehog on her head. I

love it So we get back to the Misfits Battle

of the Bands concert And, oh my god, Amy, your

favorite band made it to number three, the Lip

Lizards. Love it. The Lip Lizards! I just think

it's kitschy and adorable. Among other things.

But I really like the fact that they called back

to it. Oh, and the guy that's wearing the t -shirt

that has the Autobot logo on it. Oh, I didn't

even notice that at first. I just realized it

myself, too. I did not. Sophie, you sneaky. Wow.

I did not even notice that at first. See, there

wasn't a My Little Pony reference in this one,

so they used another IDW. We might get my Ghostbuster

reference. That's what I wanted to know. Oh,

God. Can you imagine Gem Babies with proton packs?

Never mind. Just never mind. Okay, so the the

MC guy the guy wearing the Autobot logos t -shirt

Actually gives the crowd the bad news that German

holograms have been disqualified from the competition

He then goes on to say that you're gonna get

a full set from misfit Misfits and we get a huge

resounding no from the entire arena That's amazing

That's too bad, because the Misfits are awesome.

I'd like a whole set of them. Yeah. And I want

Pizzazz's earrings. My gosh, amazing. What? Are

you sure you want those earrings, Nicole? They're

deadly, and I love it. It kind of reflects her

mood, doesn't it? Yeah. So Pizzazz has razor

blade earrings. They're table saw earrings. Okay.

That's one way to weaponize a band member. I

love it. You'll hear about Gem of the Holograms

and the Misfits and weapons on Friday, folks.

So we have the song from the Misfits. We then

cut to Rio, Blaze, and Clash. And Clash introduces

Rio to Blaze. She cut her hair. In fact, we're

going to see a lot of changes in hair quite quickly.

Yeah. So Rio gets a call from, I guess, Jerrica,

I assume, because he asks, hey, how are you guys

holding up? And he says, yeah, I can do that.

Give me a half hour. So they've got some sort

of plan in mind here. Um, cause you know, we

see hit, we see Jerrica hang up from with Rio

and she, cause they were, they were talking about

a plan earlier about how to, how to still get

noticed without needing to be in the, the versus

contest since they've been kicked out. And she's

now doubting herself again. And you know, everybody's

saying, but Jerrica, it was your idea. You know.

And everybody says, you know, we're in, let's

do this. So we have a Showtime synergy transformation.

And to redeem myself from last episode, when

I complained about Shana's hair, I will say the

bottom right hand image of Shana in this outfit

that her hair actually looks damn good. Totally

rocking. I love the new styles and Kimber, she's

pretty much got no hair. She's got this awesome

like Faux hot going with this shaved sides. Love

it. So I was like, oh, I like it. But I was like,

oh, but she cut her long hair. I think it's just

a hologram because she'll have a synergy because

I would. I hope that it is. I've already made

reference like her long hair. I've already made

reference to this, folks. On Friday, you're going

to hear us interview Kelly Thompson, the writer

of Gem of the Holograms from IDW Publishing.

We've already recorded that episode, that interview,

so we can't now ask her. Maybe we can ask her

on Twitter and have a response for you guys before

the end of the show. But as of right now, we're

all under the assumption that this is just Synergy

doing a hologram for Shayna Aja. and Kimber.

Because remember, Shayna is not doing anything

with fashion yet. Well, she probably is. She's

just not seeing it on the page yet. It was in

her profile. Yeah. Yeah, it's in her profile,

but that's what I'm saying. We haven't actually

seen her doing anything. Drawing and doing stuff,

yeah. Yeah. So we get back to the Misfits. I

was going to say one more thing, sorry. I'm sorry.

This page where they transition and all that.

You see all of them in their new, their outfits.

It's sparkly. I could just imagine it being glitter

all over. Love it. Again, Sophie did an amazing

job showing off her talent here because that

transformation is beautiful. Not only that is

I can kind of like you to have the glitter kind

of look all over. Yeah. and then the little blue

squares that are going around, those are like

silver reflective things. I mean, if they could

put like everything on there, I'd be like glitter

that up, put some reflective stuff on there,

you got it, woo. It almost looks like it's sequined.

Yeah. They're not, they're not sequins, but the

way I'm saying this is the blue stuff that you're

talking about Amy does look like glitter, but

the star, the gem stars. almost look like their

Spotify sequence. I love it. A little bit. Yeah,

I love it. I love how in the transformation her

hair, like just the way that the hair changes,

because obviously Jerika is a blonde. In the

mid transformation that we see here, it's like

a really, really dark pink. And then the final

part of the transformation, it's the light pink.

So I really do enjoy that. That's pretty awesome.

So we get back to the Misfits. They are having

their concert. As the concert goes on, we have

some strange pink music blaring into, with again,

gem stars all over the page, into the Misfits

set. And the middle part of the panel on this

page is Pizazz just looking utterly shocked.

Cut a reminder, and I know this is silly to reference

this, folks, but it's because of what... There

was an episode of Boy Meets World where Sean

said, I'm shocked and dismayed. Corey's like,

you can't be both. You be shocked, I'll be dismayed.

And that's pretty much the two looks that...

that that pizzazz has on her face right now is

is just sheer shock and dismay and they get on

their guitar axe motorcycles and rev off to figure

out what this new sound is. And we come to the

page where we see all the holograms jam. And

when I mean holograms, the actual synergy projections,

we see the whole band. And they are performing

and they are kicking ass. And they're drawing

everybody to them. I love it. I love it. I got

a bit. We've got holograms in here. You got a

dinosaur. You win. Absolutely. Just so long as

it doesn't have feathers. I love that. Is it?

Yeah, it is Jetta. I love what Jetta says about

the dinosaur. Gonna murder whoever made that

dodgy blue dinosaur. I'm glad it wasn't purple.

Sorry. That'd be awesome if it was purple. Another

Transformers reference. I was thinking, you know,

somebody named Barney, you know. Oh, no, no,

no. Ladies and gentlemen, Amy is way too much

of a mother not to make that reference. I know.

I'm sorry. That's 20 geek points off your credit

card. Aw, I'm sorry. My geek credit's going down

because I referenced Barney. I think I like Nicole's

reference better. It's a... A Beast Wars Megatron?

Yeah! If it would be purple it would be Beast

Wars Megatron. That would have been awesome!

You have a nice... The bottom... So the top part

of this page is Jim and the Holograms doing their

thing with all the lyrics and everything else

coming out. And you see all four of them on the

stage. The bottom half of it is close -ups on

each band member. Man, if I could get a print

of this, I would so buy a print of this from

Sophie. This is just amazing. That's gorgeous.

Simply amazing. And then the next page too, the

whole pink background with the lyrics and Jim

singing and all of them playing their instruments,

just absolutely love it. Sophie kills it on the

art with this series. Really does. I personally

love that the last panel with the Misfits. Gaw,

that close -up. You know what it reminds me of?

I mentioned it earlier with the police lineup

in the very beginning when they were being disciplined.

The last page here, when the Misfits face Jim

in the holograms, the very bottom. Where the

final line is pizzazz says misfits. This means

war first of all I'm gonna have to throw a bug

another bugs bunny line in here. Of course, you

know, this means war But this this bottom page

these these panels these four panels. They look

like mugshots to me Oh, no, I I'm not saying

in a bad way. I'm just saying how How Sophie

and how they lined up the panels how she has

each of them with the with the one side of their

face? That it looks like something out of a mugshot

book No, I love it. I don't know. I do Bugs Bunny

and that this means war I'd be like actually

everything about that pay out about that little

image of of pizzazz is this means war Just like

she's out of blood She is ready to kill. If looks

could kill, that's the look right there. People

would be dropping like flies right now. Yep.

If Sophie had worked it just a little bit more

on Pizzazz's eye, if you zoom in, you can see

her iris, not the iris, you can see like around

her or the green part of her eyes, like little

white cutouts, because the white part of her

eye, but it all it. I was half expecting Sophie

to put a skull in her eye. Bottom end of one.

Yeah. It looks, she looks insane. Like she's

like channeling an inner demon. I love it. I

love it. I love it too. It's just great. The

fact that she's cut all of her hair off. I mean,

you look at the hair on all of these. I mean,

I love Stormer's hair. Oh my gosh. Could you

put anything more spiral in there? That's so

gorgeous. I'm like, ah, The hair is a big deal.

It is so a big deal. The whole looks of this

comic, even for, and this will transition through

the six issues that we've had, they've had so

many different looks, not just hairstyles, but

clothing and... Sophie just kicks it out of the

ballpark, I tell ya. She just kills it. Amy what

are your overall thoughts for issue number six

if I could give it the full marks I absolutely

would but just because nothing is ever perfect

and I you know always want people to Go, you

know push yourself do more do more do more. I'm

gonna get a what is it? Would you up to five?

Four point five. Absolutely. This is smashing.

It's awesome. It's great. I love it I have to

say that I was a little bummed at first when

I was like, oh, they're not going to square off.

But then this is actually so much better because

it's like, oh, because it was like that little

bit of disappointment that you had that you're

like, oh, I was a little disappointed. I want

to see him on stage. And then the next thing

you see this and it's just like, oh, my gosh.

Wow. That was brilliant play. brilliant, brilliant

play and kind of even homaging back to the cartoon

as well. I don't remember if did the. My brain

is not working, so I mean. The holograms and

the misfits did face off in the Battle of the

Bands, but it wasn't a face -to -face face -off.

The misfits played first, and then Gem and the

Hologram showed up late, and then they played.

And that's kind of what this is, a little bit,

so it is homaging the cartoon a lot. I was thinking

about the episode where the misfits actually

interrupt the Gem and the Holograms, but then

they bring it back. That that's all right, though.

It's it's good, though, because it's just taking

it may make sense. It feels like it's come out

of them out of the show, even though it doesn't.

And I mean, it's just a good homage. I really,

really liked it. I was like, I don't think you

could have done a better job in this because

they come from instead of playing on the Misfits

terms, they play on their own terms and they

kick it and they win it because of that. So they

steal the audience away from from the Misfits

and you couldn't have asked for a more better

play I was just like, ah, I love that I was oh,

I remember what episode you I don't remember

the actual man But I remember what episode you're

talking about where the Misfits weren't one side

of the street. Yeah playing an event Yeah, and

then Jim and the hologram. Yeah. I do remember

that now Nicole final thoughts and rating I really

did like this I'm like Amy, I always get really

hesitant with perfect markings, but screw it.

I'm giving it a five. I don't care. I enjoyed

every single page of this from the different

covers to the little homages to the cartoon to

this new styles, the food fight. Knowing them

is that pizzazz is an actual thinker and knowing

that she is business savvy knowing that she knows

the truth of what happened with clash But she

doesn't want to know because she can't be responsible

And the whole thing the relationship progress

with Kimber and Stormer is it gonna happen again?

Yeah, and again Rios not annoying that's appointed

itself You hear that Kelly if I took off points

for Shayna's hair Nicole just added points for

Rio in itself himself, so And I mean real wasn't

he was he was in this issue But he wasn't in

this issue and I know when you guys hear the

interview on Friday kelly we have a huge spoiler

section the interview was two hours nine minutes

and thirty two seconds around the one fifty one

one hour fifty one minute mark and ten second

mark uh... that's the one the spoiler section

kicks in and kelly basically tells us about the

gem of the holograms truly outrageous annual

coming out at the end of this month here in september

she tells us about the next arc which is entitled

viral which is going to take up issue seven eight

nine so there's so many spoilers going on in

in the interview coming up later this week, so

you'll hear all that in the interview. But yeah,

I mean, the show, the six part arc, I can't believe

this book has been out for six months already.

I know. It feels like it's gone, like, by so

fast. It has. It really has. Because what was

it? Wasn't it New York Comic Con? Or was it San

Diego Comic Con? I think it was New York Comic

Con, where IDW did the announcement. Had the

class yeah, yeah had had Amy members and do the

classic the classic Jim poster teaser thing and

It just can't believe it's already been six months

also With with be given such a high remark it

ends with the perfect cliffhanger for the next

story arc You see that last the last panels of

the Misfits declaring war on them, and you're

just like this is how it's supposed to be. This

is how the new version of Jem is supposed to

go. You know who these people are after the six

-month arc. You know every pseudo -personality,

and now it's game on. And I think that was just

a perfect ending for the story arc. Way to go,

Kelly. Love you. Yeah, it was fantastic. Absolutely.

As for me, yeah. Yeah, Kelly and Sophie together.

um as for me i have to give this a five there

was nothing in here okay now i feel guilty yeah

you should something definitely wrong with you

it's like what happens when you make me go first

i don't have you filled though because you're

just like ah because if you give that that high

mark you're like where can it go can it improve

can it get better but as of right now with with

everything this is it has a five mark rating

now things could get better And you might bring

this down a little bit, like, in a year. But

right as of right now, it's a five -pointer for

me. Well, yeah. And plus, you know, last episode

when we did Four and Five together, I didn't

exactly give Four and Five stellar marks. I mean,

I gave, you know, issue four, whatever I gave

it, and I gave issue five, you know, slightly

better. But I mean, the way Kelly and Sophie

have ended the Showtime story. the first are

introducing us to both bands. I like the progression

because what they are doing is they are letting

us as the fans realize what is happening. Like

they're not over explaining everything. They're

not putting in too much exposition. They're putting

in just enough of everything to like. They're

letting us think they're trusting the audience

will get it right and for the last six months

I've said to you guys every month. I've said

At because the first thing I do whenever a gem

comic releases on whatever Wednesday it's going

to release on in in in in a given month the first

thing I do when I first sit down on my computer

on that Wednesday is I go and I see if the if

the next issue has come out and if it came out

I'll sit there and I'll sit here and read it

on my computer on comixology .com and you know

I'll either Facebook you guys or tweet you guys

or whatever and just be like oh my god that was

so good but it went by too quickly that you know

and I'm not like I'm it's not like I'm speed

reading through these issues I'm not but it's

just I don't know overall for me issue natural

when you read through it it's just like oh wow

that when it does just seems so quick and in

good read it was like wow that was over before

I wanted to be over absolutely absolutely issue

number six gets a five from me because it was

everything in it is just immaculate everything

is so well done the story beats the art just

everything the um well just to wrap it up i mean

like if you think that was good i mean then we

get the hologram page where we find out uh sophie

this was a really heartfelt thing but she talked

about some of the stuff going on. And it's just

like, I have to say, and I messaged you guys

after I read it, when I actually sat down and

read it, OK, I'm going to read this now. And

it made me tear up. Oh, absolutely. I forgot

to mention that. That's another reason why I

give it a five, because I mean, like I said,

from the beginning to the end. I mean, like I

said, with those covers all the way down to the

hologram moment, you're just like, there's so

many emotions in this. Now I feel even more.

Come on, Amy. Come on. You know you want to change

it now. One of the things in the letter I'm actually

going to read that Sophie says, she says, Talking

about the characters. I care about them as if

they were my own especially pizzazz She's basically

me if I were to let my dark side run amok If

she has skull earrings, I'd be like, ah, where'd

you get them? I want pair We need to tweet her

after the show. Okay, so folks one thing I will

say before we go and before we take a little

break here in a minute, but At the end of this

letter Uh, Sophie says, so that's it for now.

I'll see all of you again when I return for Gem

of the Holograms issue number 11. You'll find

out in the interview with Kelly Thompson on Friday

that issue seven and nine is going to be a different

artist. And then issue 10 is going to be a different

artist and Sophie's going to return. Sophie put

all of her heart and soul into this last six

months. I understand why she might need a break.

I mean, that's just like, you know, That's just

like your buddy Amy Nick, you know doing so much

and so much and so much and then after a while

He's like, yeah. No, I need a break Thank you,

thank you so much Uh, so to preview from whenever

we get it, uh, uh, issue number seven viral part

one, Jerrica and her sisters face their biggest

threat yet success. Meanwhile, the misfits aren't

taking these upstarts laying down as they find

themselves under new management done, done, done.
