wanna... You are now listening to GeekCast Radio
and ToyCast as we continue the Top 100 Toys countdown.
Today we're revealing entries number 25 to 1.
So this is the Top 25 Toys of Darkness. I am
one of your hosts, TF2 and Mike, and joining
me as always is the rubber ducky loving Steve
Megatron. Yo! Yo. Also joining us this time around
is, once again, the man who is all about those
impossible missions. It's DJ Valentine from Simplistic
Reviews. I am no spy. I'm just poor. Poor Mego
Owen Davian. Oh my god, if Sheldon Cooper could
see you now. And from the planet of KT Toys,
we have Mr. Optimus Solo. Hello, sir. You did
DJ first, so I couldn't say ho. Yeah, that's
pretty much why I did that. Even though you just
said it. Oh. Yeah. Oh, oh, oh. Damn Thundercat.
And yes, folks, it is Christmas. This episode
will be releasing Christmas Day 2023. Merry Christmas.
Happy holidays. Happy whatever the hell you celebrate.
uh take it away sir and let us know all about
part five of the top 100 toys countdown part
five like he said it's 25 to 1 it's the cream
of the crop it's the top of the list nothing
else can make it there's only 25 spots left and
if we're going back into our references and where
we're sitting going into here so we've had 75
well 76 toys revealed and the leader right now
is board games with 16 entries Action figures
one behind it with 15. And then the only ones
even remotely close to it would be electronics
with seven and DJ's favorite toys with wheels
with eight. So that's where we're sitting right
now. So we'll have to see. It's a close race.
Board games is one ahead of action figures. So
we'll see what this top 25 holds. And then from
the decades standpoint, we have the leader. Currently,
it's actually a tie. with the 1900s and before
sitting at 15 entrants and the 1980s sitting
at 15 entrants with a close runner -up with the
1960s sitting at 14. So it's kind of a three
-way race all within one toy of each other heading
into this final grouping. And then right now
in the toy companies, Milton Bradley is leading
the way with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. toys no
other company has more than that at the moment
we've had basically a shutout for mattel we've
had zero mattel toys and wow two hasbro toys
so far we have had really quickly i i just need
to interject this here first i'm not trying to
correct you i'm not trying to screw anything
up but When I was doing the editing for, I think
it's part four, wherever Light Bright fell, I
forget where Light Bright fell. I think it's
in the bottom part of the top 50. It's 41. It
is. Okay. Well, when I was getting the commercial
for that, at the end of the commercial, it said
it was a Milton Bradley toy, but you said it
was from Hasbro. Yep. It all depends on which
one you count and where you count it and who
owned it at what point in time. Okay. I was looking
into that and doing all kinds of research after
the fact, and I actually just cut out the part
where it said a Milton Bradley toy in the ad
because I was like, oh, crap. I don't want the
audience to come after us for saying the wrong
thing. A lot of them have been. Now you have
to cut out the thing that you just said that
this whole conversation. Yeah, it is definitely
like if you wanted to make your brain explode,
look at the history of which companies own which
toys at which times. And it's like. And basically,
you can sum it up by Hasbro owns everything now.
Yeah, pretty much. And no, DJ, I don't have an
exploding chip in my head. Thank you. I was making
sure, because now you have to do a whole bunch
of other lifting. Oh, I forgot. Kenner is also
towards the top right now. Kenner is sitting
at, I think, six. So they're also towards the
leaderboard. Anything, Steve or Mike or DJ, how
about that action figure board game race? It's
within one right now with board game leading,
Steve. Do you think that holds true or do the
action figures make a late run here? Oh, I think
the action figures are going to make a late run.
There's still some big players that have not
debuted, so I'm waiting to see what happens.
How about the weird decade thing? To have a three
-way race between the 1900s and before, the 1980s
and the 1960s. DJ, does that surprise you? Yeah.
Again, I always put my money on the 80s. I'm
always going to put all my chips in the middle
of the table and say 80s wins every time. That's
usually a safe bet. So without further ado, let's
go ahead. I tried to do like a Kenny Omega there.
Let's get right into it here with our number
25. Also, just real quick, the 25 that we're
revealing today. every one of them except for
three has either been nominated for the Toy Hall
of Fame or is in the Toy Hall of Fame. So kudos
to those that were voting for this list because
we got 22 out of the top 25 are actually been
nominated or inducted into the National Toy Hall
of Fame. So apparently we know what we're doing.
Anyway, number 25 is one of those that has not
been nominated or inducted into the National
Toy Hall of Fame. We're going to go with a toy
with wheels. One of my favorites from when I
was a kid. I definitely voted on this one. And
also the first entrant from the toy company Galoob.
We're going with the 1986 toy line. Anybody?
Anybody? Remember the commercial? Galoob? I remember
Galoob. That was the company that gave us the
Micro Machines. This is the Micro Machine Man
presenting the most midget, miniature, motorcade
of Micro Machines. Each one has dramatic details,
terrific trim, precision paint jobs, plus incredible
Micro Machine pocket play sets. There's a police
station, fire station, restaurant, service station,
and more. Perfect pocket portables to take any
place. And there are many miniature play sets
to play with, and each one comes with its own
special edition Micro Machine vehicle and fun,
fantastic features that miraculously move. Raise
the boat lift at the airport marina, man the
gun turret at the army base, clean your car at
the car wash, raise the toll bridge. And these
play sets fit together to form a Micro Machine
world. Micro Machine pocket play sets, so tremendously
tiny, so perfectly precise, so dazzlingly...
detailed you'll want to pocket them all micro
machines a micro machine pocket place that's
sold separately from galoob the smaller they
are the better they are oh it came to me it came
to me so we did uh i had a ton of these things
and my mom i think was a fan of them apparently
because i think just like randomly one year that
was like all the presents were micro machines
so i had like i had the big base like boat thing
that you could put like the army planes and boats
and tanks inside and things like that and then
i think i had some cars as well but i love the
micro machines i think they were pretty cool
for their time and we also got the the isn't
that the one that john machida does the yeah
i was gonna say it's gonna be i'm a big fan of
micro machines making it here at top 25 even
so that's crazy to me i i don't know why they
haven't been nominated for the toy hall of fame
but those people should get their acts together
mike what do you think of the micro machines
I loved Micro Machines at the time, and again,
mainly because of the ads, because of, like you
guys said, Blur as the voice of the Micro Machines,
and that was so fun. And just the cars themselves
were just great. They definitely had a lot of
different lines within the Micro Machines, because
like I said, you had your war stuff, you had
your cars, your planes. I'm sure they had some
other types that other people had. DJ, what do
you remember about Micro Machines? I remember
I got a little baby pack. I had the Jeep and
I was like, yeah, this is great. But again, I'm,
I've been six foot two for a very long time.
I need toys are kind of like, yeah, this is great,
but can I get like a real toy, like a bigger
toy? I can't crush with my hand. Yeah. I like
them more for how you could set up like a whole
table. And it was like, The whole world. You
could have a whole war zone on your table with
all the different things you could have. Who
would ever have... I never met the kid that I
have. The world of micro... I've never met that
kid. I got the kid in my neighborhood that had
like 20 maybe. That's cool. But I see the commercial.
This guy is like... This kid has got like...
His parents must be like one of the people that
built the Chrysler building or something. I was
like, how do you get all these toys from him?
Steve, any thoughts on the micromachines? Well,
I'm kind of glad that they showed up. One, the
only thing of Micro Machines I really cared about,
the Star Trek ships. I collected all of them.
I had multiples of the three packs. I had multiples
of, yeah, just a lot of them. And then I got
the limited edition collector set, which was
the only way you could get the Enterprise A.
Nice. And to this day, the only Micro Machine
I still have is the Enterprise A. I forgot they
did have a whole bunch of these in Star Wars
that I do own as well. Micro Machines, they're
all over the place in the franchise. They should
make a comeback. Are they on the store shelves
still? Yeah, they're still on the shelves. They
are very limited, though. Gotcha. All right,
so Micro Machine starts us off here at number
25. For number 24, some people might not consider
this a toy when they first think about it, but
the Toy Hall of Fame says otherwise. It just
got inducted this year. We're talking about sports
cards. Give me Jordan and Barkley for Ewing and
Mullen. You got it. I got Carl Malone. Brute
strength. Rebounding. Inside. He's going to be
running, jumping over people's heads. I won.
You didn't win. You lost. I won. I won. I got
all the stars. Just because you got a few championships
doesn't mean everybody on your team is good.
I'm sorry. You know, that's it. That doesn't
mean everybody on your team is good. They know
how to win. No, they don't. They know how to
win. They can't win. You can't understand. You
may think of me as a little kid, but I know a
lot about basketball. You know a lot about cards,
but you don't know a lot about bats. I know a
lot about John Stockton. John Stockton for who?
For you. Well, no, I would keep John Stockton
because I would sit you on the bench and then
put Stockton in for you. Who are you going to
sit on the bench? USA Basketball Collector Cards
from Skybox. You can probably go all the way
back to the 1800s, 1860s, so this will give a
column back to the 1900s and before, even though
the 25 give a column slash to the 80s, so they're
battling out neck and neck. But sports cards,
baseball cards, basketball cards, football cards,
whatever kind you want. Kids play with them.
They trade them. They put them in their bike
spokes if they want to regret life later. What
are you doing? Sports cards. The most recent
inductee into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
Mike, are they warranted here in the top 25?
I don't know. I don't think so. Are they warranted
in the top 25? I would say no. Do they need to
be on the list somewhere? Yes, just not here.
DJ, agree? Can you play with a card? Can you
play with it? I mean, I had starter packs. I
had David Robinson versus Antonio Spurs, one
of my favorite players. Not my favorite. Dwayne
Wade's number one. But I never said, hey, man,
let's go play cards. Trade cards. But we did
have Magic the Gathering and stuff, so I guess
it's just the definition. Isn't trading cards,
though, a form of playing? I guess. It's the
Magic the Gathering Pokemon thing. I'll let it
go this time. It is, you are correct, but sports
cards? Really? Collecting sports cards is not
the same thing, or having sports cards is not
the same thing as throwing down whatever Magic
the Gathering card defeats everybody kind of
thing. It was more of, hey, this is a... piece
of sports history that you can own in your house
or in your trapper keeper or whatever the hell
your album i can tell you i logged many many
hours with my sports cards growing up and it's
to me like nowadays it's like collecting cards
is almost the same as collecting toy like action
figures or any other type of toy like it's like
You go hunting for them and you try to find the
rare ones or the chase figures or the special
cards. It's got a lot of similarities. I know
I spent a ton of time logging them, trading them,
filing them. Some of them did have more interactive
games that went with them as well. It wasn't
all just the really expensive ones that you're
trying to collect. They had a variety there.
Steve, what do you think? I'm kind of torn on
this because they're not really a... a toy per
se like you don't play it's not like playing
magic the gathering or pokemon because yes i
mean they they are kind of collectible but they're
also a card game whereas this is more of just
a collectible eye candy thing that you kind of
put in a folder and look at every once in a while
uh or like you said if you regret life putting
them in your bike spokes uh but i i don't i don't
have a problem with it being here because it
it's kind of one of those staples that's been
around forever Uh, and it's, and it's still there,
even though people don't really fully collect
them. I mean, my kid got into them like probably
two, three years ago and then kind of fell out
of it pretty quickly. Cause again, it was just
something he could look at, not necessarily interact
with. Right. Um, so I, I don't have a problem
with them being here, but I don't necessarily
think that they are a quote unquote toy. Yeah,
I totally get it. The toy hall of fame says it
is. So we'll go with that. Yeah. Number 23. I'm
interested to see your guys' reaction to this
one. This one was a toy that got introduced to
us in 1974. And originally, I think, came from
Hungary, the country. It was a National Toy Hall
of Fame inductee in 2014. We're talking about
the classic good old Rubik's Cube. Rubik's Cube
here at number 23. I kind of put that in the
same realm as I would like. Some of the ones
that we've seen earlier. isn't every problem
a playground almost like a view master or like
a sketch or you know something of that nature
where it's just like everybody's played with
it like how much you played with it might have
varied depending on like how much you were into
it but i feel like every kid has at least at
one point in time picked up a rubik's cube so
i don't i don't know what that says about its
toy worthiness i voted for it for sure so i'm
not upset that it's here i don't know where i
would put it place wise i'd have to go back and
look at my list but i think it's definitely top
100 worthy mike what do you think yeah i think
so and it's one of those things where you can
play with it you can figure out all the combinations
and yeah that's worthy it's like i guess it's
more like the the the yo -yo or like one of those
things where it's like there's some people that
are masters of this thing and then everybody
else just kind of like Bumbles through it. Dabbles
through it. Yeah, Steve, what do you think of
the Rubik's Cube? I mean, I get why it's here.
I've seen a lot of people that are just masters
with it. I've watched people do the, you know...
The 10 -second solve or whatever. Yeah, well,
I mean, I've seen a teenager, even locally here,
do it with, like, the three -square width and
then four -square or five -square. And then I'm
like, yeah, you're just nuts. Um, my brother
used to cheat though. Um, he used to tear off
the stickers and then put them on the other side
and then tell us that he, he defeated it. And
we were like, Brian, he was like, we were like,
dang dude. And then he would, you know, Oh look,
I finished it. And I'm like, dude, they're peeling.
I'm like, you were lying. But yeah, I could only
ever get like one or two sides. And then after
that I was like, yeah, I, I'm clearly not smart
enough to do this. I like the people that solve
it without ever looking at it. Oh, I know. That's
the kids that I was talking about that I know
locally. DJ, what do you think about the Rubik's
Cube? The coolest thing I've ever seen as a youth,
I stayed with my aunt, Judy, in Baltimore, and
she was in the Navy, and we pulled out a Rubik's
Cube one day, and she did it in 30 seconds. And
I was like, what kind of sorcery? Have you done?
He's one of those experts you're talking about.
She can do it immediately. Like, done. I'm like,
whoa. And I would talk to my cousin, her son,
Joey. I'm like, what? It's a trick thing. And
she's like, nah, man. My mom's crazy. My mom's
some kind of magical person. Savant. Savant,
apparently. And it was like effortless. It was
like, yeah, yeah, here you go. And we would sit
there for hours like trying to get half of a
side. Couldn't figure it out. And she'd do it
immediately, yeah. So Rubik's Cube, definitely
something you can play with. Definitely the thing
I did have. So yeah, I like it being on there.
All right, so three picks in. No tallies in the
board game column. No tallies in the action figure
column so far. Let's change that with our number
22. With our second of our three toys that are
not nominated or inducted into the Hall of Fame,
this one's coming from 1985. We'll put a slash
in Kenner's column. We're going with the action
figure toy line of Mask. M .A .S .K. Not Jim
Carrey's Mask. I voted for this one specifically
when it came down to action figures. I had a
very strict like it had to be something that
was either been on shelves for like. decades
and decades and decades where it had just such
a huge following or it had to be something that
was like unique versus just like a static action
figure and that's why i voted for mask because
outside of like transformers like they did more
they had more options as far as what they did
and what you could do with them to me without
having to have like the massive playset or anything
like that like just the cars um worked you had
the figures that had the mass that you could
put on or off so i thought that they were unique
enough where it definitely was warranted amongst
the action figure category mask where illusion
is the ultimate weapon convert switchblade to
jet mode Surprise, math tracker. It's night hail.
Battle stations. Protect the decoder, Bruce.
I'm going up. Stacks ready to fire. Masks, switchblade,
thunderhawk, and rhino. Fire! Each sold separately
with action figure. Cover me, Matt. 10 -4. Sato's
getting away! But you're not, Mayhem. Mask, Switchblade,
Thunderhawk, and Rhino. Each sold separately.
New from Kevin. So I definitely voted for them.
I'm kind of surprised that they got this high,
but I'm not upset about it. Mike, what do you
think? You know better than... Any of us, because
we went through it. The toy line is better than
the goddamn cartoon. Bite your tongue, sir. Bite
your tongue. No, we went through both seasons
of the cartoon. The best thing about the cartoon
is the opening theme song. The actual plots of
that cartoon are horrible. It goes like this.
In the mask world, in the mask universe, it ranks
like this. Number one, theme song. Number two,
toys. Skip a whole bunch of numbers and then
go to number three way down here, and that's
the cartoon. That's the cartoon. The toys, again,
like I mentioned in one of the other episodes,
another toy line where I had almost everything.
I had Boulder Hill. I had, oh, that's right.
I had Boulder Hill next to Castle Grayskull and
Cat's Lair. That's what I had. Very confusing
world that they were living in. Yeah, exactly
right. It was a giant mess over there. Yeah,
exactly. Why can't we look like him instead of
tiny micro machine guys? Tiger or something.
Yeah. No, I loved, I love the toy line for mask.
I loved both the hero and the villain vehicles.
It was all great. And that Boulder Hill place
that is just one of the best place. That's the
eighties. Yeah, DJ, you're more of a fan of the
cartoon, it sounds like, but what do you think
of the toy? I had the Condor, the green motorcycle
that turned into a helicopter with the guy with
the yellow suit. I forget his name, but yeah,
I do remember that. Brad. Yeah, in the middle
of... Transformers. This is like Transformers
where the people get to play with it. I had this
when I was like seven. I was very... It had an
effect on me. I remember the cartoon show Loving
It. Again, if I look back now, it's almost like
you don't want to turn around and turn into salt.
Don't look back. In my memory, it was amazing.
I'm never going to watch it again because I don't
want it to be destroyed. Funny crime Secret raiders
Who will neutralize So that they arise I'm gonna
leave a mission Expect from God The superstition
Nightmare Is the mighty power That can save the
day Nightmare No one knows we're lying Right.
I think that's a project I need to do. Which
80s cartoons should you never watch again? Never
watch The Mask again. It was great. It was fantastic.
I currently do have Matt Tracker and Miles Mayhem
in my Heroes and Villains action figure collection,
but I never had them as a kid. I do remember
one of my friends and we would go, both of our
sisters were in girl scouts or brownies or something
like that and for some reason we had to go where
they went and it would just be like them doing
all their thing like in the main part of the
big wherever we were at and then like me and
this kid were like on the floor in the back playing
with his mask vehicles and i was like oh why
don't i have any of these but i never did anyway
steve what do you think about the mask uh i'm
indifferent to it because i never really cared
about the show or the toys. He's too young. I
was more of a Transformers fan and Ninja Turtles
and Batman back then. There's room for all of
them, man. They can all just live together in
harmony. Especially if you're in Mike's room.
There's like a whole toy universe going in there.
There's a photo of Mobile Armored Strike Command.
Command with a K. It's so quick. Yeah, command
with a K. It's like Mortal Kombat. All right,
so Action Figures makes the first volley in this
set of 25. Let's see what we have at number 21.
We're going back to the world of Nerf. We had
Nerf balls earlier, and now we're going to go
with Nerf guns. So Nerf guns, any type of gun,
blaster, whatever you want to call it. Nerf's
N -Strike Arsenal has a specialized blaster for
any mission. You can improve your blasting speed
with the Maverick Rapid Fire Blaster. While the
Night Finder's light beam targeting system allows
for pinpoint accuracy. And you can nail targets
from long distance with Nerf's newest blaster,
the Longshot. Two blasters in one with fire clips
and detachable scope. Everything you need to
blast your skills to the next level in Strike.
Blasters sold separately. Batteries not included.
Nerf. It was a toy Hall of Fame finalist. It's
not been inducted, though. This came around in
1989 from Hasbro. Mike. What do you think of
Nerf guns in general? There's a lot of different
variations, a lot of different kinds. There's
like machine gun, Nerf guns. There's just like
all kinds of various ones. What do you think
of it making the countdown? You'll shoot your
eye out. No, that's a different type. Yeah, I
know. That's why Nerf guns got invented. Yeah,
exactly. I'm surprised that it even showed up.
What? No, I'm just surprised. I'm not bad. Like,
oh my god, it shouldn't be here. I'm just surprised
that it... No, but at 21, I would expect it to
maybe be 29, 30, something like that. I think
in the category of guns, it's like Megatron and
Nerf guns. Pretty much. Or Super Soakers. That's
right. DJ, in the world of Nerf, is the Nerf
gun the best toy? I wanted a Nerf gun so bad
and I never got one. Then I grew up. Then I got
to work at the YMCA of South Broward as a counselor.
They gave us an unlimited budget for toys. Guess
what? We had a whole bunch of Nerf guns. We had
a Nerf Gatling gun. We had a Nerf shotgun. We
had the Nerf pistols. Every time the kids were
good for the week, we'd go into the gym. And
we'd put like a little fort in the back. It would
be like laser tag. Nerf guns are so great. It's
so fun. It does promote firearms, but I don't
care. It was so much fun. The kids had a blast.
They didn't want to leave. The parents would
come and pick them up, and the kids would tell
the parents, come back in an hour, because we
were having so much freaking... Nerf guns are
awesome, all right? To this day, if somebody
gives me a Nerf gun, I'm like, I'm going to stop
what I'm doing, and then I'm going to do John
Wick around my office with Nerf guns. There has
been at least one type of Nerf gun on toy shelves
for, what? 40, 30 years or whatever. There was
a video where they tried to do an act. I think
it was the guys from Collider Crew. They had
to do the special effects. They did a stunt thing,
like a John Wick with Nerf. They shot it like
a John Wick movie, but they used Nerf guns. It
was freaking awesome. It was fantastic. It's
like the one thing that Nerf guns has over Megatron
is it did not get banned from the toy. Cause
they looked fake to exist. Steve, what do you
think of Nerf guns? Make them parents here. Uh,
I, I never owned one as a kid, sadly, but whenever
a friend had one, you, you bet I picked it up
and there've been occasions we've gone places
and, um, they'll be there and my kids will be
present. And, um, I'd be lying if I said I didn't
snipe my own kids, but, uh, And they're a terrible
shot. Years of Battlefield. Anyways, but they
also have merchandising of themed Nerf guns now.
They have Star Trek phaser rifle. I like it.
Nerf gun. I'm a fan. And it looks awesome. We
can make a whole different arena in that gym.
We're going to take down the board. We're taking
down the board. The line must be drawn here.
Now we need smartphone uniforms too. Oh yes,
yes. So Nerf guns takes the 21st spot. We'll
move on to number 20 here and we'll go from 1989
to, I don't know, maybe like 500 BC, um, pinning
down a year for this one's going to be pretty
tricky, but they say about 500 BC, but it was
more popularized in around the 1929 era from
a company called Duncan. we're going with the
1999 toy hall of fame inductee the yo -yo at
number 20 so we just talked about rubik's cube
and i made a yo -yo reference i forgot that it
was coming up but like something that can be
played somewhat simply and then it can be going
like 17 levels advanced like master class when
you're doing all the walking the dog and all
the other kind of craziness. So I was into yo
-yo for a short amount of time and I could do
a decent amount of tricks. I never got like.
master level but i definitely had like i don't
know six or seven tricks i could do but i i think
yo -yos are fun there is a big difference between
a good yo -yo and a bad yo -yo though there is
so and there was like i think it was like the
mid 90s maybe or sometime in there where like
there was a certain brand that like really got
popular again it might have been still duncan
but it like became a fad when we were growing
up at some point like middle school high school
era where the ones that they were producing were
like super high quality and you could do a whole
lot of tricks with them and i thought that was
fun so what do you think mike well yeah you're
right in the i would say somewhere between 94
and 97 they made a resurgence and holy crap you
couldn't turn on any of the six tv channels we
had back in the 90s without seeing a yo -yo ad
they were everywhere and they talked about the
yo -yo grand championships and everything else
yeah i could never do major tricks like i can
walk the dog that's fine that's easy enough but
i like it i think it's good i think it's warranted
being here and yeah yo -yos yay I think there
was a time, too, where every time you went to
a mall somewhere, there was somebody putting
out a yo -yo display. What do you think of the
classic yo -yo from 500 B .C. to 2023? What do
you think? It deserves to be on this list, and
I absolutely hate it. I was not a coordinated
person that could do the walk of the dog. I used
to watch the commercial, and there was someone,
a guy, making it look so easy. I had yo -yos.
I had multiple yo -yos in my house, and I think
they were just giving to me to mock me or something.
I was like, I can't do any of these tricks. I
think it... My coordination was not... By the
time I got coordinated, I had already grown past
the yo -yos. I didn't care anymore. When I got
it, I was like, oh, this is cool. I see the commercial
and then I try to do anything and the thing would
just go down and stop. It wouldn't go back up.
It would do anything. I think what fueled that
resurgence was whatever company was in it, it
might have been Duncan, but whatever company
was putting out the yo -yos in that 90s resurgence,
They did something with the bearings or something
so that all the tricks became exponentially easier
to do. It was a big thing because you felt like
you were finally able to do stuff because the
yo -yos were almost programmed to do the damn
tricks by themselves. What I remember right now
as you guys are talking about this is I remember
where it got popularized in the 90s. Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, the secret of the ooze
at the beginning. Mikey walks the dog, he does
around the world, all that stuff. So 1991. Yep.
Steve, what do you remember about the yo -yo?
I remember that it was incredibly difficult to
do. And like you said, there were two different
versions. There was the classic cheap version
that you could just pick up for a couple bucks
and it did nothing except for spiral out of control
and end up on the ground every single time. And
then you had the ones like what you were talking
about with the bearings in them and... they had
a nice uh like a spring mechanism in them where
you would roll it down and it would actually
come back up right or if you like flicked your
wrist just at the right time it would just spin
oh yeah and you can and you can do the walk the
dog and still pull it back but if you try to
do pretty much anything else you had to really
be coordinated it's like it's it's like that
and juggling like the two things that i can juggle
our version i can juggle i just could not yo
-yo at all I can't juggle. I can just throw stuff
at people. I can't nunchuck, I can tell you that.
Good lord. Oh, fellow chucker. I do that with
my dad. My dad was a police officer and he confiscated
somebody's nunchucks when the Turtles movies
were popular. Some teenage kid that had them
and they were in our garage and I went out to
use it. They're like legit wood with metal nunchucks.
And it took me about two seconds to almost knock
myself out. You were playing with a murder weapon,
by the way, so I'm glad you're... ...or anything.
Small town. Moving on. Number 19 here. For the
record, though, that's three for the 80s, Nerf
guns, masks, and micromachines, and that's two
for the 1900s and before, which would be the
sports cards and the yo -yo, so if you're keeping
track. Number 19, we're going to go to a toy
from 1943. It was a 2000 inductee. Another classic
definitely deserves to be on the list. In my
opinion, we're talking about the slinky. Everyone
loves a slinky. Who walks the stair without a
care and shoots so high in the sky? Bounce up
and down just like a clown, everyone knows it's
Slinky. The best present yet to give or get,
but costs a little to buy. The hit of the day
when you're ready to play, everyone knows it's
Slinky. It's Slinky, it's Slinky, for fun it's
the best of the toys. It's Slinky, it's Slinky,
the favorite of girls and boys. Except for when
they stretch out. Down the stairs and it's plastic
and it snaps and all this other stuff. Unless
you had the metal ones and then they just become
this. amalgamized piece of metal spaghetti. I
don't think any plastic version of Slinkys, which
was popular in my childhood, I don't think any
of them ever survived the life of the toy without
snapping or breaking or being half of a Slinky.
I don't know. Oh, no. No. I don't know why we
couldn't have metal ones when I was a kid. What
was wrong with the metal Slinkys? Were they dangerous?
Yes. Was there a movement against the metal Slinkys?
I don't know. It's called tetanus. If the Slinky
goes outside and gets rusty and you cut yourself
with it, then that's not good. They made a plastic
one. Everything is made for a reason. Somebody
did something. They got sued, and they're like,
okay, we gotta make some plastic ones. Some waterproof
ones here. I loved your question. What stairs
are you finding outside? The stairs to your front
door, maybe? Our generation was known for taking
guns and turning them into nerf, taking metal
slinkies and turning them into plastic. I get
it. Mike, what do you think of the slinky being
here at number 19? It's already been said. Yeah,
absolutely. Because, again, just even though,
you know, Silly Putty had a short shelf life,
I was always playing with that, and I was always
playing with the Slinky. So it's just, yeah,
it's one of those toys that has a lot of playability,
whether you're inside or outside. Stay inside
when you're playing with Metal Slinky's kids,
please. This is the public service. That's right.
While I find them enjoyable, I never was able
to get them to fully go down an entire flight
of stairs. They would go down several, but not
all. They mostly became something to pretend
I was projectiling from my hands like Ryu or
Goku. It was like the same level of frustration
that you got with Slinkys as you did with Dominoes.
With somebody messing it up or not. finishing
how it was supposed to because you set it up
too far apart or something. 16 people voted for
Slinky out of the 21. Let's move on to number
18, a category we haven't had a whole lot of.
It's our generic games category. This was a 1971
toy that became popular. I think it's currently
owned by Mattel slash whoever. It was inducted
in 2018. We're talking about the classic game
and all of its variations. The game of Uno. Uno
Attack or Uno whatever. Uno. It's like, how do
we teach everybody? Nevermind. I'm going to stop
at that line. Don't go there. Skip and reverse.
And then the tractor. Hey, you, do you like fun?
Then now is the time for fun with Uno. It's as
easy as matching colors or numbers. You like
going backwards? Throw a reverse card. Bam! Bam!
No! Uno is the perfect game for the family room,
recess, camping, the beach. So don't wait another
second to shout Uno! Uno, you can find it in
the games aisle. DJ, what do you think of the
game of Uno? You're speaking to an Uno master.
It's funny because... I, when I worked for, as
a counselor, we would play Uno literally, batter
spades all the time. And then my sister, just
recently, I watched her on her phone playing
Uno. She's like, I'm like, oh, you play Uno?
She's like, that's all we play. She's like, my
sister's friends will, I don't know. to her horn,
but she's friends with famous people, so she's
like, yeah, I'm playing with blank and blank
and blank, and we're playing Uno. We're playing
it 24 -7. I'm like, oh my god, it's having an
Uno resurgence. Uno was awesome. People cheated
Uno, so you gotta make sure you make the rules.
Just make sure you get the rules right, because
you got the people that just want to do the plus
four and pick up. Just make sure you say the
rules ahead of time, but Uno was awesome. Uno
will never go out of style. And what's the name
of the company that makes Uno? I don't even remember.
It was International Games to begin with. It
was just a generic company called International
Games. I think it's held by Mattel currently.
I think so. I don't like digital Uno because
that's what she plays on her phone. I prefer
the tactile, slap the card down. I like that
bragging right where, you know, pick, draw for
a son. You know, I like that. And a phone, I
can't. Can't slam my phone down. I only know
the original Uno. Does anybody have like another
version that they like? Because for me, I've
never done anything but just straight up Uno.
I know there's like a million variations. I've
done Uno, Uno Attack. There's like a family one
that's like they've got special rules for certain
things. Yeah, I still prefer the original though.
I think there was like a new one within the last
year or two that just like made another resurgence.
I can't remember the name of it. I prefer Skipbo.
Skipbo! Yeah, we play Team Skipbo with the kids,
and my wife is incredibly difficult to beat.
And so my boys, she taught my youngest how to
play all of her tricks and everything. So now
there's a mid -grade person on both teams against
adults. My youngest and my wife are the pro players,
and my other son and myself are the ones that
are goofing around and like, eh. When I went
to Vegas, they had a war that you can actually
gamble on. Imagine if they had Uno in Vegas.
People would be... I think you can get a lot
of people at a table playing Uno at the Venetian.
You can actually do some bets on Uno. Because
I've seen it in real life. That's regular people.
Uno's also become a game that has ventured into
the world of memes with everybody with their
whatever, draw fours. Reverse card, yes. I've
seen that in Premier League. Alright, so Uno
is our number 18. We're going to go to our number
17, which is actually going to be the first one
today that I didn't vote for. I voted for all
the other ones we've talked about today. This
one can trace its origins back to the 1800s,
so another tally in the before 1900 column. I
don't know if I consider this one a toy, but
we did include it with all of our different types
of books. We're going to go with the good old
-fashioned, universal, generic comic book, all
-encompassing. Way to go. Don't let those overgrown
tin men keep you down. Just too many of the big
guys for you, buddy. Hold on tight. Can Spidey
handle a sentinel's blast? Whoa. Grab a copy
of this month's Spider -Man. Marvel Comics, it's
mayhem for your mind. So comic books here at
number 17. I think they... got their origin in
england if my research was any accurate or not
but it's comic books they've probably been around
in different versions forever but obviously super
popular in the 1900s for sure i don't have a
problem with it being in the top 100 i didn't
vote for it just because i felt like there were
some other books that had more toy aspects like
i don't know like for me like a where's waldo
or like uh seeing i book is more of a toy yeah
like a then something that you're just straight
reading Like a coloring book is more of a toy
because you're coloring on it. So that was kind
of like where I drew the line, but I don't necessarily
have a problem with it being on the top 100.
Mike, what do you think? So sports cards and
comic books need to be. 52 and 51 or they, they
need to, they can be on the list. That's fine,
but they need to be way lower than what they
actually are. Cause I've never thought of a comic
book as an actual toy, something you play with.
It's like you said, something you read, something
you collect, something that, you know, I don't
know. I don't like it. But the difference between
this and baseball cards or sports cards. is it
gives you the entertainment of the mind. Yeah,
it does. Yes. Much like you would with playing
with a toy or reading a book or things like that.
So it gives you the visual. It gives you the
story. I memorized the heck out of the statistics
on the back. It's true. Yeah. Yeah. But I get
your point. Totally. Uh, four people had comic
books in the top 10, so they definitely had some
love. Three other people had three other people
had him in the top 20, uh, two other people in
the top 25. So, A lot of high votes for comic
books. So moving on to number 16, our first entry
into the world of electronics for today. So we're
going to go to a toy that came about in 1989.
It was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.
We're going with the Game Boy. So all handheld
Nintendo versions can kind of be lumped in here,
but the Game Boy is the most. popular one it's
the most iconic one it was the console turned
into a handheld and it wasn't you know it was
like a big jump from tiger electronic handhelds
to the game oh yes so mike what do you think
about the game boy coming here at 16 oh game
boy absolutely love it they said it wasn't humanly
possible all the power and excitement of nintendo
right in the palm of your hand Introducing Game
Boy. It's portable, it's in stereo, and its games
are interchangeable. Game Boy comes complete
with batteries and the outrageous new game Tetris.
And for head -to -head competition, use video
link and blow your opponent away. Game Boy, only
from Nintendo. Now you're playing with power,
portable power. My aunt had one, and I would
always borrow it from her, and I played Tetris
and Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2. And
then a certain cartoon in its third season decided
to bring in the Poochy of Nintendo and create
Game Boy in Captain N the Game Master, and I
use the Commence Game Action quote from that
character all the time. Ready to commence gameplay.
Begin. I'd better go get him so we can warp out
of this crazy world. Okay, Hotshot, let's shake
this joint. Hotshot? But I loved Game Boy. The
original Game Boy was great. I never got into
Game Boy Color or any of the other variations.
I know Steve. Yeah, Game Boy Advance. I never
got into any of that stuff. That classic Game
Boy, though, man, that's where I learned Tetris
and everything else. It was so fun. I never had
a Game Boy, and I really didn't like Game Boys
just because I thought the graphics and the coloring
and the screen was just not good enough. I don't
know. I guess I was spoiled by, like, the Nintendo
and the computer graphics on, like, the Commodore
64 or the IBM or whatever I had at the time.
But I do remember that, like, going into, I think
it was, like, my sister's orthodontist office
or somebody's doctor's office or dentist's office.
Like, they had these in the waiting room. So,
like, you could literally play Game Boy while
you were waiting, and that was my exposure. And
I played, like, I don't know, some game called
RC Pro. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It was, like, that
was what I was playing while I was waiting for
my sister to, like, You have your teeth stretched
or whatever happens at the orthodontist. DJ,
what do you think of the Game Boy? Again, Uno
Master here. Also, Tetris Master. And I came
to Tetris Master because I played Tetris all
the freaking time on the Game Boy. Every, like,
any time I was traveling or I was in some stationary
position, I was playing Tetris. So, yeah, the
Game Boy. That's probably what it was. It was
the traveling aspect of parents being able to
give these to kids in the car. Play the same.
It was before the portable DVD player took over.
And the coolest thing about the Game Boy is if
you had that you used to, and I'm sure you could
still probably buy them now. I don't know. I
haven't in a while. My aunt had a battery recharger,
and we would just buy rechargeable batteries
back in the early to mid -90s. So that way you
don't have to waste so much money on buying more
batteries when it ended up dying on you. Right.
Steve, final thoughts on Game Boy? I first got
introduced to it when the Game Boy Pocket was
new. One, I was happier because it was smaller
and it was a bigger screen, but then I even owned
them on through the Game Boy Advance and then
when it converted to the 2DS, I had one of those.
I didn't have the second generation flip. game
boy advance but i i liked them for what they
were i i will grant you that they were crappy
graphics uh up until they started getting the
uh game boy advance level of stuff and then they
got really good with the 2ds 3ds type thing but
if like for instance i never had a gaming console
as a kid we had a pc I was always envious of
the kids that had the Super Nintendos and the
Game Boys. I never wanted the Game Gear because
the batteries always died within 45 minutes compared
to the Game Boy, which you could play all day.
I think Game Boy 2 has a lot of ties to the...
emergence of the Pokemon popularity in video
games. Then you had the transfer cables and things
like that. It had a lot of add -ons, a lot of
compatibility stuff. Overall, it was a really
cool innovation. I think that Nintendo is still
leading that charge with the mobile handheld
gaming market. Absolutely. That is number 16.
That means we're up to our top 15. We're going

Transform and roll out! All right, thanks for
sticking with us through that ad break. We're
back with our top 15 toys of all time. Yes, we've
gotten to the top 15 here, and we're going to
start off. But the category we haven't been in
much. We're going into the category of the dolls.
We haven't had much here, but we're going to
get one that came out in 1982. It was a 2023,
yes, this year inductee into the National Toy
Hall of Fame. I think it was originally from
a company called Coleco. And then Hasbro was
involved. Mattel's been involved. Wicked Cool
Toys, Jack's have all owned it at different times.
We're talking about the classic. Cabbage Patch
Kids. Good parents, my Cabbage Patch Kids. The
Cabbage Patch Kids. Each doll is different and
you can pretend to adopt them. My baby has a
real diaper. You can love and care for them like
your very own. You're a pal. You're the only
one. I love you. They're each one of a kind.
They're Cabbage Patch Kids. You can give them
all your love. Cabbage Patch Kids are each sold
separately. Each doll comes with a pretend birth
certificate and adoption papers from Coleco.
So the Cabbage Patch Kid dolls. If you want to
talk about one of the most famous, as far as
fads go when it comes to toys, we talked about
that a little bit earlier when we talked about
the Tickle Me Elmo, and there's been certain
toys that have just been like... you know i think
of like the furby and the tickle me elmo and
and things like that that just but like taken
over like cabbage patch was like the early version
of that like before all those came across cabbage
patch kids did that so i'm sure you can find
videos online somewhere people like grandma's
beating each other up over cabbage so it comes
in here at number 15 it's also the first toy
on our list to have over a thousand points as
far as how our point system goes. So that's a
milestone. 16 people voted for Cabbage Patch
Kids, and two of them had them in the top 10.
Mike, what do you think of number 15 being the
Cabbage Patch Kid? All I can say is I hope Furby
is not higher, because oh my God, that fad was
crazy. But no, Cabbage Patch Kids, they were
great. I didn't have any of them, but I had plenty
of friends who did, and yeah, you're right. The
fights over these things were just crazy. It
was interesting because it was like the Cabbage
Patch Kids and the Pound Puppies kind of capitalized
on the whole like making it personalized as far
as the kid and the toy. So I thought that was
interesting. DJ, what do you think about the
Cabbage Patch Kids? Is the Cabbage Patch doll
or I guess toy one of the only toys to have a
satirical spoof of it? Because Garbage Pail Kids
are essentially a spoof of the Cabbage Patch
dolls. So I think it was so famous, they made
a card line based on spoofing it. That's how
big Cabbage Patch was. Interesting. Steve, any
recollection? I know that was a 1982 toy, so
maybe a tiny bit before your time, but what do
you think of the Cabbage Patch Kids? I'm familiar
with it. I know that a lot of people did collect
it. I can see its merit being here because I
remember it through the 90s even. So, I mean,
on that alone, I'd probably give it, you know,
top 100 status. I don't know if I'd put it this
high, but okay. It's one that's been like not
on the shelves the whole time, but since 1982,
it's had its moments where it comes back for
a little while or it's featured for a little
short amount of time. I think you can buy one
right now at Target or Walmart probably. think
it's on the shelves so yeah another thing that
has nothing to do with cabbage patch kids but
i keep forgetting to mention it because dj keeps
mentioning the word like uno master and like
we could have like our whole list of toys that
you can master and it seems like a lot of them
have appeared so far like you could have your
yo -yo master your rubik's cube master your slinky
master so it's interesting how many of these
toys on this list could you consider yourself
a master of There might be one coming up later.
All right, so let's go to number 14 here. Let's
put another column back in the 19th century dateline.
It doesn't get much more classic and iconic,
I guess, than this. We're going to consider this
a toy with wheels. It's the ultimate toy with
wheels, I think. The bicycle. With 12 -speed
Shimano shifting for an extra hill climb and
low, and a flat -out high. Handlebars fully padded,
sponges off, and a double comfort racing saddle.
From Huffy, building the bikes America likes.
19th century invention, maybe. 2000 inductee
into the Toy Hall of Fame. It says it. Kind of
came about somewhere in Europe, maybe. We'll
give them credit for inventing the bicycle, but
wheels have been around for a while. DJ, what
do you think about the bicycle, and is it a top
15 one? Yeah, I mean, there's movies based on
bicycles. Nicole Kidman was in a movie called
Rad. Which was all about a bunch of bike guys
riding around or kids riding around and stopping
crimes and stuff like that in Australia. Bikes
were the cars for children. Literally, back in
the day, kids, in olden times, your parents wouldn't
want you in the house. They would let you go
to this place called Outside, and they would
give you a bike, and you could take your bike
and go. Anywhere. As long as you got back at
a certain time, you could go anywhere you wanted
to on a bike. Anywhere. And we're getting a little
resurgence with the little electrical scooter.
Back in the day, kids used to pedal and go everywhere.
The mall, the store, all types of things. We
didn't have Uber. We had bikes. And you didn't
have to lock it up anywhere. No, you just leave
it there. Well, sometimes you did. Not in my
area. It was fun because you'd be on your bike
and our town had a whistle that went off at 6
o 'clock every day. And you knew when that whistle
went off that it was time to pedal your butt
back home for dinner. But yeah, it's like the
rite of passage. Learning to ride your bike and
the parent teaching the kid and then watching
them. And skin their knee and cry and be bloody
all over. Um, it's just like, so it's funny.
It's funny. You mentioned that part of it. Cause
literally, uh, as we're recording this, uh, unfortunately
Andre Brower just passed away and I just finished
watching frequency. And in that movie, Dennis
Quaid helps a young, the, the actor that plays
his son as the kid ride a bike. And I literally
just saw that the other day. A bike is a rite
of passage and freedom for the eight, nine -year
-old, just like the driver's license is for the
16 -year -old. It opens up a whole new world
where you can have friends that aren't on your
block. When you got your training wheels off,
it was like graduating. It's like, I'm going
to fly. If only. Steve, what do you think about
the bicycle being here at number 14? Oh, no.
I totally am fine with it being here. I mean,
we just... on our kid another one for Christmas
this year. Our kids love flying down the street
and those things. The only thing that sucks is
if you're in an area that has goat heads that
pops the tires. Did you just say goat heads?
Yes. That's what they're called. I don't know
what that is. It's a plant. Think of the episode
of Beast Wars. Where Dinobot gets the plant stuck
to the back of his neck. So there's little tiny
plants like that. And they will rupture your
tire and stick to your finger. So they're extremely
painful. I have fixed so many bike tires out
here in Colorado. I'm never moving to Colorado.
Nope. I remember just as a kind of a similar
story. I remember like tree roots were like a
big thing, like jumping wheelies or things off
of tree roots. And I convinced my friend, he
had a big tree root in his yard and I was like,
Oh, we should jump over that. And so I let him
go first and he popped his wheelie over that
tree root and went high enough where the whole
bike then came down across his chest on top of
him. The line of the handlebars across his chest
was like imprinted. And I was like, Oh my God,
he just. I was like, time for me to go home.
Which was two doors down, by the way. Gotta go.
Let's move into number 13. Apparently, it's the
day of the guns, I guess, on our countdown here.
Number 13, we're going with the Super Soaker.
A 2015 Toy Hall of Fame inductee. Came around
in 1990. Currently, I think it's owned by Hasbro.
We're just going to go with that. The Super Soaker.
And compare that to the Nerf gun. Is Super Soaker...
worthy of being higher mike yes why because there
is so much more fun with it like you didn't have
to worry the only thing you had to reload was
water you didn't have to worry about finding
the the discs or the balls or the whatever the
hell came out of the nerf guns like your super
soaker is empty just go to the hose and fill
it up that was there was definitely like a advantage
though to whoever had the most expensive Which
was never me, by the way. DJ, what do you think
of the Super Soaker? Yeah, the Super Soaker is...
I think it's more of the... That was like the
summer outside toy gun. And then the Nerf was
like... You can use Nerf outside. But I liked
urban combat. So I like being inside with a Nerf
and outside with a Super Soaker. So yeah. Steve,
any thoughts on Super Soaker? Yeah. It was owned
by Laramie. Back in the day. I had the Super
Soaker 50. Oh, I remember. They always had the
numbers like the Super Soaker 2000. And what's
funny is that was probably better than the ones
with the giant tanks. Not only did it have the
holster that held like, I don't know, it had
to be like 25 ounces or something. Or a liter
or something. I'm not really sure. But anyways,
it had the pump action on it. The funny part
about the super soaker, that particular model,
you could hook up to the hose. And you could
convert that high pressure energy and not have
to pump the super soaker. And it would come out
in a nice, firm stream from the cannon. We had
a super soaker fight with the kids over the fence.
And it was like a wood fence. And they had their...
higher, more expensive super soakers with, like,
one of them had a backpack and one had the dual
tank. And then I was like, screw this. I plugged
it into the garden hose and stood in my treehouse
with the hose hanging from the super soaker and
just, like, I had, like, direct line of sight
and I sniped him. You can create, like, the whole
war. You get super soakers, you add in water
balloons, like, you have a whole... We destroyed
him. So, so far we have a, uh, we're what? 14
picks into today's countdown and we've had one
action figure and zero board games. So that means
that they are tied currently with 16 a piece.
So our number 12 came around in 1935. It was
a 1998 inductee into the hall of fame. It's from
Parker brothers currently owned by Hasbro. We're
going to give our first tally to the board game,
not a column. main one that we haven't talked
about yet mike any guess i don't know how about
monopoly that was the one coming it was also
it's also the second of the three toys i did
not vote for in my personal list only because
monopoly only ends one way. And that's everybody
quitting or throwing the ball. How did I make
it big? I know how to play the game. I buy real
estate, hotels, fancy cars, even railroads. And
I take chances to make it big. Oh, you've got
to play the game. I'm a monopoly game. No, no.
Have you ever played a, like a 10 hour game of
it? Yeah. Oh yeah. It's horrible. My cousins
take this game super serious. So if you played
their game, it was on and they were bartering
and putting stuff up for auction. And I was just
like, I am not ready for this. This is not for
me, guys. If I'm going to play that long a game,
it's going to be like Stratego or Risk. Not Stratego,
but Risk is a longer game. I'll play that. Monopoly,
I don't think it's that fun of a game. It's not.
I get how popular it is. I get how iconic it
is. I get we've had McDonald's Monopoly and we've
had all the various versions of the actual board
game Monopoly. I probably own Star Wars Monopoly
in the house somewhere. So it's definitely like
taking advantage of all the franchises and stuff
like that. I just, when it comes to board games,
I like so many other board games better, but
I totally get why other people voted for it.
So I get it's top 100 worthy. It comes in here
at number 12. Mike, what do you think? Oh, man,
Monopoly. Yeah, Monopoly will ruin families.
It definitely will, and you're right. There's
all kinds of themed Monopolies, because I still
have to get, Steve, the Beast Wars version of
Monopoly that came out a couple of years ago.
They do have a Transformers Generation 1 and
a Beast Wars version. I believe it's the... I
forget what company it's fully under, but there's
a company called Scopely. They just released
recently. monopoly go on your phone where you
can play with your facebook friends and other
friends that have your whatever and it's basically
the same thing and it's like yeah monopoly is
life and monopoly is war because war is hell
folks when it comes to monopoly dj what do you
think about monopoly i'm in florida as you guys
know and uh when wilma hit uh we had no electricity
for like two weeks and monopoly that in describing
the plot of Lord of the Rings to a friend of
ours who was stuck in the house with us who had
never seen it. We played Monopoly and did that.
And we played Monopoly like... Like you guys
were saying, legit, we were playing with real
money. We were doing it for legit. It's one of
those games where when I was young, I would see
my parents playing. I didn't understand it. And
then when I got older, I played it. Oh, I get
why they are so addicted to this thing. And then
I heard they were trying to make a movie a while
back with Ridley Scott. And that fell apart.
And now they're still making the movie with Kevin
Hart and Tim Story. I'm like, how? How are you
making this? I like the Ace Ventura version better.
Do not pass count. Do not collect $200. That's
all the movie you need. Eight people had this
one in the top 25. So a lot of love for Monopoly.
Steve, do you think it deserves to be so far,
up to this point, the highest board game? No.
It's iconic, yes, but the fact that they have
to keep putting a new theme on it to get you
to buy a new version of it tells me everything
I need to know. Because it can't stand on its
own without having a franchise tied to it at
this point. It literally is not worth picking
up. I'd almost just rather play the electronic
versions, honestly, and that's rare for me to
say that. And honestly, seriously, I'm not trying
to convince any of you guys to join Monopoly
Go at all, but Monopoly Go is essentially the
digital version of the game. They have events
and everything else, but it's not themed, it's
not whatever, it's just classic Monopoly. And
one of the few board games, I know there are
a couple other ones, but one of the few board
games where you actually can get a Mr. Monopoly
In his jail uniform as a Funko Pop. I have it
on my shelf over here. That is not surprising.
All right, let's move on to number 11. This is
a classic one, maybe a little bit boosted by
the appearance of it in the Toy Story franchise.
We're going with the 1952 toy that was inducted
in 2000 to the Hall of Fame. We're talking about
Mr. Potato Head or Mrs. Potato Head or whatever
kind of potato head you want to talk about. I'm
not trying to cause controversy. It was Mr. Potato
Head, dang it. So it's coming in here at number
11. Mike, what do you think? Yeah, absolutely
love it. And there's no Mr. Potato Head ad out
there that I would end up putting in here. I
am just going to use Don Rickles and Estelle
from Toy Story because that's the best. And some
blue Play -Doh. And a dime, call me, and Monkey
Chow. Monkey Chow? For what? Well, for the monkeys,
of course! Come on, monkeys! That's it! I draw
the line at monkeys! Get my agent on the phone!
Yeah, but Mr. Potato Head, he's the Humpty Dumpty
of toys, really. What do you think about Mr.
Potato Head? I mean, I think he deserves to be
on here, just because everybody's played with
one at some point, but it... at the same time,
like he, he had to go get political, man. What
are your pronouns? What are your pronouns? It's
another one of those, like what kid has, what
kid has not played with a Mr. Potato. It's like,
you know, this is a hall of famer. So yeah, I
get it. I think I was. I never had fun with a
Mr. Potato Head. I liked the little storage thing
in his butt that you could put stuff in there.
My kids like putting his face on his butt and
then moving it all around that way. I think I
had one that had a Chicago Cubs hat or a bat
and a glove or something that you could give
it. You had a themed Mr. Potato Head. I had the
regular top hat Mr. Potato Head. I never had
that. That's another list that we could make,
like the themed toys, the toys that are on our
list that could be themed into franchises or
sports. Right, right, right. All right. Mr. Potato
Head number 11. So the board games just took
the lead a pick ago with Monopoly, but the action
figures are going to try to keep with it here
at number 10. So our number 10. So, yes, we're
in the top 10 here. This action figure line started
in 1978 from a toy company called Kenner. It
has basically never left the shelf since. 2012
inductee into the toy hall of fame we're talking
about the star wars action figure toy line here
at number 10 i may or may not own a few thousand
of these yeah i was gonna say um so we won't
talk about that but obviously i'm a big fan i
voted for it this is like the difference here
so when it came to action figures for me it either
had to have something like unique like we saw
with mask or it had to be something like star
wars that just has seemingly been around forever
There was a brief moment where it wasn't on the
shelves, and I think since the early mid -90s,
I don't think it's left the shelves since. And
load Chewbacca's laser crossbow. Star Wars large
-sized action figures. Up to 15 inches tall.
And ready for action. Large -sized Darth Vader,
Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, each
sold separately from Kenner. So, I'm a big fan
of Star Wars. I'm surprised it got enough votes
to get in the top 10. But I'm definitely happy
that it's here in the top 25. Mike, what do you
think? Yeah, absolutely. Star Wars is awesome.
I didn't have too many of them as a kid. I only
have Funko Pop Star Wars stuff now. Yeah, no,
like, I remember, I do actually remember having,
I think Michael Wilson sent me this at some point.
He sent me one of the, I forget which character
it was supposed to transform into, but it was
the Millennium Falcon Transformer crossover that
Hasbro did a while ago. Yeah, I can see that.
About a decade ago. I forgot to mention, by the
way, Mr. Potato Head was on 18 lists, so that's
the most that anything has been on since. Star
Wars, not on 18 lists, but look at these rankings.
Number 2, number 3, number 3, number 5, number
5, number 7, number 9. There's a ton of people
that had it in the top 10, top 20. DJ, what do
you think? I had the Falcon. I had a Y -Wing.
I had a Luke. I think I had, I remember having
either a Wookiee or Chewie. I'm pretty sure it
was Chewie. I had it. I love Star Wars. I grew
up on Star Wars. I had the Return of the Jedi
book. I just said that Star Wars is now dead.
I'm sorry. I mean, yeah, back in the day, Kenner
toys were awesome. The franchise now is in perpetual
hell. But right back in the day. Just talking
about toys. It's one of those franchises, though,
that has been able to reinvent itself so many
times. There was toys based on original movies.
There were toys based on the comics. There's
been toys where, for some reason, everybody was
super buff. Yeah, I remember that. The buff Star
Wars. Right. There's been the 12 -inch ones.
There's been the classic three and three -quarter
ones. There's been the six -inch series, which
has been... The Black Series has been huge. And
it started like a whole revolution. It seemed
like I don't know if they do they get credit
for starting that kind of revolution or was the
somebody else do that first? Because it seems
like every toy line now that's action figure
oriented does the six inch. I don't know if they
were the first. Were they the first? I don't
know. I don't know. I don't know what started
that craze, but it went from like in our day,
like it was like in our. older siblings or cousins
or family members days it was the 12 inch dolls
like the big 12 inch and the big star wars stuff
like that and then like our generation it was
like all the three and three quarters like that's
like i mean i'm not saying every toy line had
that there were some that were other sizes but
that was like the classic that was what star
wars was that was what you know gi joe was etc
and then somewhere in the 2000s like that six
inch thing became like the fact because now it's
in you have the gi joe classified you have the
marvel and dc stuff you have the the star wars
black series or whatever they call it so like
it's like crazy i don't know who started it i
gotta do some research mike what do you think
yeah no absolutely it's it's definitely something
that has caught on because again like i mentioned
earlier when we're talking about mask like that
was my biggest problem with the mask as a mask
as a toy line was the toys were like the size
of my thumb yeah like they weren't Looking back
now, it's cool to see all the variations that
we actually had because in my mind, it was like,
oh, all the action figures are one size, but
there's like the Brave Star figures are humongous.
The mass figures are tiny and it's crazy with
all the different size variations that I didn't
realize actually existed. Steve, what do you
think about Star Wars coming in here at number
10 before we move on? I used to have a ton of
them. Sold it all off during my second layoff,
but Uh, yeah, I used to have a ton of them, a
lot of, a lot of figures across different lines,
a lot of ships, a lot of, uh, play centers, a
lot of, uh, a lot of things that I wish that
transformers had done over the years. Uh, you
know, like the stuff that people are 3d printing
now, you know, same thing with like, you know,
power Rangers or, you know, Star Trek or, I mean,
Star Trek did a little bit of it, but like, The
stuff people are coming up with now compared
to that, I mean, nothing kind of covers as much
as what Star Wars has managed to do over the
years. Yeah. All right, we're in our top ten
territory. Let's go to our number nine. This
one was on 19 lists. That's the new record, 19
lists, including six people that had it in the
top ten. This toy originated in 1956. Kenner
is kind of the one that made it popular. Hasbro
owns it now. It was 1998. inductee into the hall
of fame we're talking about the classic kids
toy play -doh Anything goes. Ice cream fun in
a cone or a cup. Play -Doh ice cream play shop
scoops the fun up. Put Play -Doh in, squeeze
out, soft swirl, Play -Doh cones. Whirl and scoop,
it's sandwiches too. Food is fun with Play -Doh
and you. And for more Play -Doh fun. Hop in the
chair, grow wild hair. Sniff in here, style it
there. Fuzzy Pumper Barber and Beauty Shop. Anything
goes with Play -Doh. Play -Doh play sets and
case of colors sold separately. Fun to play with,
not to eat. Play -Doh. I know, Mike, you said
you like Silly Putty better, but a lot more people
voted for Play -Doh, so what are your thoughts?
Yeah, that's fine. They can have their damn Play
-Doh and eat it, too. I will tell you, my daughter
has never seen Silly Putty yet, but she loves
her Play -Doh, and there's this troll thing that
you can put the Play -Doh in, and then you turn
the wheel, and its hair comes out in all different
colors, and she thinks it's amazing. I get kind
of bored with Play -Doh myself, but I'm sure
there are other ways to spice it up, but I just
haven't. been wanting to explore that. So DJ,
what do you think about Plato being here at number
nine? I love Plato. I, it made me feel like an
artist because I was doing it. And unlike. at
least correct me if I'm wrong, unlike Silly Putty,
like you just mentioned, it had play sets with
the hair and you can do things. They had things
that you can do stuff with Play -Doh. Silly Putty
was... Yeah, Silly Putty was very one -note.
One -note, right. You can copy the comic book
and the newspaper on it and you can make things.
Play -Doh, you can do whatever the hell you want.
It was awesome. Except for combined colors. You
can't let those colors touch each other because
then you're screwed. Go across the streams. I
tried to make my sandwich. I was like, oh, I'm
going to make you a hamburger. So I took some
Play -Doh and made the buns and showed it to
her. And then I was trying to take them back
apart to put them in their colored... It's over.
What have I done? What have I done? There's no
turning back. It's over, man. You Play -Doh wrecker.
And then I got a job from my wife. Steve, what
do you think about Play -Doh? No, I definitely
think it deserves to be on here. Like most everybody
has used it at some point and then used it with
their kids or other kids. And so, I mean, it's
just it's one of those iconic things that have
a lot you can do with it. But like you said,
once once attached to something, it never separates.
All right. Moving on. Like I said a while back,
probably in the first episode, we had three people's
number one picks not make the countdown. We knew
that we talked about that ahead of time. Since
then, we've only seen two number ones appear,
which was Silly Putty at number 44 was somebody's
number one, and Battleship at number 33. Since
then, we have not had any others until this pick.
So at number eight, we're going to have somebody's
number one come out, somebody's number two, somebody's
number three, somebody's number five, seven,
seven, eight, nine, nine. Good Lord. One, two,
three, four, five, six. And people had this in
the top ten. And we may get some flack for not
having it higher. Just like Play -Doh, it was
introduced in the 50s. 1959, though, instead
of 1956. And just like Play -Doh, it was inducted
into the Hall of Fame in 1998. We're going to
go with a Mattel toy here. Pretty popular in
2023. Talking about the Barbie doll at number
8. Barbie's small and so petite. Her clothes
and figure look so neat. Her dancing outfit rings
a bell. At parties she will cast a spell. Purses,
hats, and gloves galore. And all the gadgets
gal's adore. Barbie dressed for swim and fun
is only $3. Her lovely fashions range from $1
to $5. Look for Barbie wherever dolls are sold.
Someday I'm gonna be exactly like you. Till then,
I know just what I'll do. Barbie, beautiful Barbie.
I'll make believe that I am you. You can tell
it's Mattel. It's swell. So this may be a factor
of just having more boys than girls. contributing
list or males and females contributing list into
our countdown. But Barbie here at number eight,
are we going to get a lot of flack for this not
being like top five, Mike? Only if Oppenheimer
is number seven. Give me the sad Einstein doll.
Give me the German toy. You think most people
would have this in their top five, Mike? Yeah,
probably. Number 8 is not bad. It's top 10. It's
top 10. Steve, what do you think about the Barbie
doll? It's pretty close to what I ranked it just
because of the iconic nature of the thing. Plus,
it's been pretty popular for decades. Obviously,
nothing I cared about. Wait, wait, wait. Really
quickly before DJ goes, I have to say this, and
folks, if you haven't listened to the previous
episodes, go back and listen, but how Kevin does
the point system, anything you rank at number
100 gets one point. Anything you rank at number
one gets 100 points. Barbie was my 100 because
I knew it needed to be on there somewhere, but
because I wasn't into Barbies at all, I wasn't
going to put it anywhere near the top 10. I will
say that it is the only toy that got a vote for
100 and for one. There you go. DJ, have you seen
the movie this year? Absolutely not, because
I'm a man. But I think... What? I'm sorry. Did
I say something wrong? I watched the movie. We
actually watched the movie like this last week.
And I have to say that out of toys that have
become movies, this might be one of the... most
well done ones i've ever seen like the stuff
that they find a way to put in here that is like
barbie versions that were cast off that like
got canceled for like whatever controversy or
lack of sales that they throw in there like the
different it's it's really clever the way they
put this together like you can almost like not
even pay attention to the plot of the movie if
you wanted to and just like look for all the
different easter eggs of like it's it's just
really clever the way they did that i will say
that much but go ahead dj what do you think about
barbie i think eight is enough But I'm not a
Barbie. My sister had Barbies, but she never,
she collected them. She didn't play with them.
But I know people who did play with them. She
had them in the boxes. I would see them all.
It was like the American Dolls. Yeah, yeah. And
I was like, okay. But yeah, the Barbie, it's
got, it's like the Mr. Potato Head to me. It's
like, I know why it's here. I get it. It's iconic.
It's the highest grossing movie in America. It's
going to have a sequel probably based on Ken.
Margot Robbie is one of the hottest women in
the world. So her playing Barbie made me kind
of want to watch the movie. Then I realized this
is not for me. This is not for me. But I understand
it. I get you. I get you, Barbie. You live your
life over there. I live my life over there. So
that was one person's number one. We have, what,
one, two, three, four. We have seven picks left.
Yep. Four of them were number ones on people's
list. Three of them were number twos on people's
list. So it's the cream of the crop, folks. So
number seven, it was a 2022 Toy Hall of Fame
inductee. It was brought about to us in 1982
from a company called Mattel. Put one column
in the action figure column. Keyman and the Masters
of the Universe. Speaking of toys that aren't
a specific size because they're all different
sizes. That's right. What do we have here? It's
Castle Grayskull. And it's mine. Not so fast,
Beastman. He -Man! You can pit He -Man against
Beastman playing for the power of Castle Grayskull.
You have to put the castle together. Beastman's
escaping. The throne, Dad. Dad, you saved the
castle! Castle Grayskull from the Masters of
the Universe Collection. He -Man and Beastman
each sold separately from Mattel. The thing that
I give credit for He -Man, not only for kind
of being, like we've talked about, like an ad
nauseum, like one of the, it was like the introduction
to a whole new world in the 80s. Everything kind
of came after He -Man. But what He -Man toys
did is they had a lot of gidgets and gadgets
and gizmos and like... things that the the toys
could do whether it was you know action type
things where you could squeeze their legs or
push a button and do things or whether it was
like mosquito or who could actually like there
was like red liquid inside him and then things
like that like they all had different like not
all of them but like they had different things
like triclops had the three you know the different
eye sets manny faces had the different faces
that you could cycle around with so like there
was lots of like little things that they tried
to make it so it wasn't just like a stationary
static action figure. Um, and for that, I gave
it a lot of credit. So it was definitely on my
vote. I'm surprised it got all the way up here
to number seven, but I'm not complaining. Mike,
what do you think of the masters of the universe
toy line? I'm not surprised that it got hit this
high because it's one of the staples. And I've
said it in every episode, folks, you're listening
to the geek cast radio network. Did you expect
anything less from us? And the thing of it is,
is I had, I didn't have the whole toy line, but
I had a good majority of the good guys and the
bad guys. I had both Snake Mountain and Castle
Grayskull, except because I come from divorced
parents. Castle Grayskull was at my mom's house
and Snake Mountain was at my dad's house. What
does that say? Until he decided... Yeah, uh -huh.
Until he decided in 1986, when I was six years
old, that I was too old to play with toys and
basically either... I don't know if he sold them
or got rid of them or... I just went down to...
Massachusetts to Rhode Island one weekend with
him and all of a sudden my toys were gone. I've
told this story on ToyCast for years now because
it's one of the stories that just goes along
with my toy collecting story. There's a picture
of me I want to say it was 89 where I'm to the
left of the frame Castle Grayskull is in the
front of the frame and it has Every other toy
I had except for any of them, it's got a Dick
Tracy action figure next to it. It's got Captain
Planet next to it. Got all this stuff just standing
outside of Castle Grayskull. And the other thing
I will say is when I, my mom in 2012 at the time
said, here, take this. I've been lugging this
thing around for 30 years. She gave me my original
Castle Grayskull. And sadly, the apartment complex,
about three months later, had a huge infestation
of bugs, and I had to get rid of the damn thing.
Wah, wah, wah. Oh, well. That is terrible. I
have a few hundred of these. Yes, you do. Not
as many as I have Star Wars figures, but it's
been growing exponentially with the classics
line and all that's out there on the shelves
these days. So, DJ, what do you think of the
Masters of the Universe as a toy line? As a toy
itself, as a toy playing with it. It wasn't like
high on my list. I was more of a Transformers
kid, G .I. Joe kid. I was a huge fan of the show.
I mean, as we sit here, I'm literally adding
together another He -Man sketch. We do it on
our show all the time because I love the show.
I love the characters, but the creativity of
the characters, as you were describing. The fact
that they got him in the toys, I thought was
like Ram Man and Mecha Neck and all that stuff.
I like that. But I like He -Man more as a property.
It bugs me that I can never get this thing off
the ground because they have so much cool stuff.
But as a toy, it was okay. I think I prefer Transformers.
Because I got the original kind of like... old
-legged sit -em -on, the very rubbery He -Man
toy. It wasn't really... I like the Battle Cat
toy and the Panthro toy. Not Panthro, Skeletor's
cat. Panthor, not Panthro. Panthor was another
cat, so I apologize. But no, the show to me,
I love the show. To this day, I still love the
show. It's just the toys, I think... I guess
as it moved on, I think when they redid some
of them, they got better for me. But in terms
of the creativity of the characters and the names,
I'm a sucker for a pun. Most of the characters
are puns named after stuff like that. I like
it. So He -Man being on this list, it might be
problematic because it's above Barbie. Somebody's
going to cancel us because we have He -Man over
Barbie. But still, I don't care. He -Man's cool.
I like the slime pit, too. It had some cool vehicles
and things like that. Steve, what do you think
of He -Man? I was not a huge fan of it as a kid,
but I have to agree with DJ. I was more of a
Transformers fan, more of other franchises, but
I do like the franchise as a whole. I had some
of the original He -Man stuff, and then I had
some of the new adventures of He -Man. Eh, whatever.
I liked the figure quality better as far as that.
As far as the show, I'd only ever seen the movie
because I owned it, and I had the power sword.
I've not been able to find the classics version
of the Skeletor from the live -action movie yet,
but I really want to. They also have done something.
Yeah, they have done some of the new adventure
figures, too, which are amazing, even if the
show was terrible. So I have Slush Head and the
Skeletor. Yeah, I mean, the figures in the Toys
Fort were great. I don't know much about the
series. I had the movie where, you know, he got
the upgrade and met Flog and all those, you know,
that kind of stuff. My favorite thing to do was
to take all of the new adventures bad guys and
have them get the crap beat out of them by my
Transformers. That's right. So, yeah, so, like,
Megatron would use them as cannon fodder and,
you know, Beast Megatron. Nice. Yeah, and then
they'd get demolished by Primal. Alright, let's
move on to number six, which was a finalist for
the Toy Hall of Fame, but guys, it's not in it.
Crime Against Humanity here. It came around in
1988 from a company called Playmates. The only
list from the Playmates toy company. We're talking
about the TMNT action figure line, the Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles. why is this not in the
hall of fame i don't know but it's uh i actually
it's one of the ones i didn't vote for so i apologize
but for me i had the action figures I love Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles as a property. Ninja Turtles
from Playmates! For some reason, I just could
not quite fit them onto my countdown because
I had too many other action figure lines, I guess,
but I totally get it. They did have some interesting
ways to take the turtles and make them sports
stars or make them monsters or make them whatever,
so they definitely tried to reinvent themselves
a bunch, so I don't have any problem with them
being on the list. They were one person's number
one, so I apologize to that person that they
didn't make number one, but they did make one,
two, three, four, five, six, seven people in
the top ten. Steve, what do you think about the
Turtles? I mean, I ranked it in the 40s, but
I actually owned literally everything that came
out for it at one point. Yeah, I was one of those
spoiled brat kids. My parents literally, I had
the Technodrone, I had the Sewer, I had the Turtle
Van, I had the Turtle Blimp. Uh, I had literally
every figure I had, like the Star Trek, uh, editions
of the characters or the, uh, the ooze characters
where they would mutate from, you know, like
the turtle to a full blown, you know, the Ninja
Turtle and then, uh, the larger version. So it's,
it's funny seeing all of these exact same toys
hitting the stores now. Um, and I've still not
picked them all up again and I have none of them
left, but it's, it's more so just like, it can
live in my nostalgia. It's fine. I, I don't.
feel the need to get them but i i definitely
see them being on this list and it's really the
only thing that playmates ever made that kind
of got them off the ground mike what do you think
so far of the order we've had for just the action
figures today so so far today we've had mask
star wars he -man and turtles yeah i would say
that's probably right all right dj Well, the
thing about Turtles is, again, I remember in
Massachusetts that we had a store up there called
Benny's, and when the Turtles first hit in 88,
we'd go in there and get those, the regular,
the standard action figures for, like, five or
six bucks. Like, they were not expensive back
then. And like Steve said, I had the... The biggest
problem I had with the Turtle blimp is the blimp
was an actual, like... thing it wasn't wasn't
plastic it was like inflatable or something or
other oh yeah it was totally inflatable yeah
i always lost the damn blimp part i always kept
the bottom part of it love the turtle van love
the sewers uh the sewer layer play set uh just
absolutely yeah turtles was definitely because
again i've mentioned this before on other shows.
The 80s had a timeline of various franchises
from He -Man to Transformers to Mask to this
to that. And by 87, Turtles was king. And yeah,
no, I absolutely love the Turtles toys. And they've
done so many interesting things since then. We
finally have a coming out of their shells action
figure set from the tour back in 1990. That's
true. I think personally, I would put Mask and
Star Wars ahead of Turtles. I don't know. He
-Man would be kind of neck and neck with Turtles,
but that's just me personally. DJ, what do you
think of the Turtles being here? For me personally,
in terms of the Turtles as an IP, it ranked the
Eastman and Laird comic book first. Then it was
the cartoon show. Then it was the movies. The
toys are usually left. I didn't have a lot of
Turtles toys. I watched the show religiously.
I know the song religiously. I know more of the
lyrics of the song than people in my family's
name. So I know that. The toy itself was a little...
It's like right there with He -Man. I think I'd
probably put He -Man a little bit above it. Just
because of the variations. I'm not 100 % sure,
but I'm pretty sure He -Man had way more characters
than the turtles. So yeah, I probably put He
-Man above it just for that specific reason.
But as an IP, I mean, the turtles, you could
not walk around without seeing a turtle somewhere.
Some kind of turtle something. Oh yeah, totally.
And like Kevin said in the last episode, Even
though we could argue day and night of where
these should be ranked, in the top 25, there's
no argument over whether they should be here
or not. We can decide whether it should be at
number 7 or number 6 or number whatever. But
the fact that they're here is awesome. And I
think my favorite gimmick the Turtles ever did
was the... I remember undercover Don the most,
but it was basically they were dressing up as
various things and then the shell heads where
you could push it down into the body. That was
the coolest thing back in the day. Absolutely.
All right. So there are only five spots left.
Mike, let's take a quick last second break for
one more ad and then we will reveal our top five
toys of all time. Yo, Joe, and welcome to the
Cracktastic Plastic Podcast, where a punk rock
band of brothers get together to talk about one
of our shared loves, toy collecting. Toy hunt
by day, punk rock band by night. We'll take any
excuse to get in the band. We all collect different
toy lines like those of real American heroes.
G .I. Joe. To the toys that are more than meets
the eye. Transformers. To He -Man and the masters
of the universe. From vintage to modern and all
topics in between, you can always expect some
rowdy and passionate discussion because we love
talking toys here on the Cracktastic Plastic
Podcast. Hey, toy fans, this is John, also known
as Iacon Dispatch. You can find me on pretty
much every social network at Iacon Dispatch,
where I share cool Transformers and Star Wars
stuff that I like. Thanks so much to the great
people at Geekcast Radio Network for putting
this awesome project together and for once again
letting me contribute to it. Definitely had a
lot of fun with it. Take it easy, everyone, and
I'll see you around online. Do you ever catch

Thanks for listening. On the Simplistic Reviews
Podcast, we talk movies. We talk TV. We talk.
Hello, Julie, what the heck are you doing? Trying
to make our spot sound more exciting by adding
explosions. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you could have
got the point across with sound effects, not
the real thing. Car, car. Download the show on
iTunes or at simplisticreviews .blogspot .com.
I'm sure your insurance company will cover that.
No, they won't. No, they probably won't. Alright,
so that means there's only room for five more
reveals. Everybody can be starting to check the
list and check their list and see what hasn't
fallen yet and try to make their predictions
on what our top five is. We'll see. This number
five pick was on nine people's top ten. Nobody
got it at number one, though. The highest it
was ranked was number two. This was a 2011 National
Toy Hall of Fame inductee. It came to us about
1968 or so. going back to the toys with wheels
dj and this time it's some hot wheels so hot
wheels at number five we've seen matchbox way
further down on the countdown but now we have
hot wheels at number five welcome to the world
of hot wheels monster trucks where big tires
meet even bigger tires crush the road with bone
shaker save the day with five alarm tear into
it with tiger shark And get wild with Demo Derby.
Large 124th vehicles each sold separately. Mike,
what do you think of that? Absolutely. Gotta
love them. Like I mentioned in one of the other
episodes, right here on my desk, I have a Hot
Wheels Knight Rider Kit Super Pursuit Mode car.
So absolutely love Hot Wheels. They were so cool.
What do you think of them being number five?
Yeah, no, absolutely. Definitely. All right,
Steve, any surprise? uh not really these i mean
they still sell like hot cakes and are still
dirt cheap in the store and i i i check them
out periodically when i go in with the kids and
look at the toys or i go to the grocery store
to pick something up and i'm like yeah let's
see what's new over here and then periodically
i'll pick one up just randomly and the kids are
like why are you buying a hot wheel you and i'm
like because i like it and it's i own about a
dozen of the treasure hunt Hot Wheels sealed
on the card just because I knew other people
wanted them so I bought them instead. That's
when I worked at Target and I did not like the
Hot Wheel collectors. They were not nice people.
But for some reason out of all the different
collectors we had to deal with the Hot Wheels
collectors were the worst. Really? And I knew
that there was one treasure hunt per case so
every time we got a case and I just took the
treasure hunt and bought it and they never found
it. Hot Wheels collectors, and this is a whole
other podcast episode, but Hot Wheels collectors
are like Just beyond die hard. Oh yeah. We literally,
this guy and his son were, I worked at target
for 10 years. Basically this guy and his son
were outside 10 minutes before we opened every
day of the year for 10 years. Why? And I literally
saw these people grow up. I didn't want. And
I didn't want to. And they would come by and
they would make a beeline to the back of the
store where the Hot Wheels were. They would look
at them for three seconds, then turn around,
make a beeline out, and I assume go to a different
store. And they would do that every morning.
More power to them, I guess, but they didn't
find much at our store. But I think the thing
about Hot Wheels that I can appreciate, though,
is that, like Steve said, you could buy the individual
cars for whatever, 69 cents at the time or 98
cents or whatever the heck they are now. They're
$1 .25 now. Yeah. So like right around, you can
get them for, you've always been able to get
the cars for less than a buck 50, right? So you
can get them for cheap. You can get a bunch of
them for cheap and give your kid a lot of cars
to play with. But you could also make it more
expensive if you wanted to, if you wanted to
get all the tracks and the play sets and the
different things like that. So like it kind of
served multiple purposes. So I totally get it.
My daughter loves Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars.
I don't know which ones she has specifically,
but they're all kind of the same. But obviously
Hot Wheels has been the one that has like reigned
supreme. It's like. When it comes to Transformers
and GoBots, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, I get a similar
comparison, I guess. DJ, what do you think about
Hot Wheels? They're like Matchbox with a publicist
because they had the song and they were driving
for real. I had the car wash. Hot Wheels was...
I wasn't Matchbox and Micro Machines. To me,
I love them all even though they're different,
but I dig them. I dig them all three being on
this list because... When I was a kid, to me,
they were just, hey, I got a car one. Microchips
are a little bit too tiny, but at least it was
one where if I got a Hot Wheel, I was like, yes.
If I got a Matchbox, I was like, yes. If I got
a Microchip, I was like, oh, this is cool. So
it wasn't like I was like, oh, man, I got a Matchbox
instead of a Hot Wheel, or vice versa. It was
always like, yeah, this is great. So yeah, Hot
Wheels being on here is awesome. Matchbox were
always a little bit more of the realistic cars.
Hot Wheels, always the more toy fun cars. To
me, it seemed like. All right, moving on. There's
only four spots left, guys. Number four toy was
on 12 people's top 10. This was introduced in
around 1964. So two back to back in the 1960s.
This was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004
from a company called Hasbro. Yes, an appearance
by Hasbro, guys. We're talking about the G .I.
Joe. Toilet. cobra gi joe and cobra the enemy
each sold separately from asbro so this includes
for the record all gi joe toy lines doesn't matter
if it was the original classic 12 inch toys or
the three and three quarter action figures like
we got with all the different vehicles and things
of that nature all things gi joe comes in here
at number four dj what do you think uh gi joe
was one of those cornerstones of my entire existence
It's one of the cornerstones. The other one's
probably going to be a little bit higher. Yeah,
man. One thing I'll say about G .I. Joe, I was
a fan of Cobra more than I was a fan of the Joes.
I love Cobra. I love Cobra Commander. I hate
Serpentor. I love Cobra Commander. I love Death
Joe, Baroness. I had a whole bunch of Frag Vipers.
I had a Hiss. G .I. Joe, the cartoon, the comic
books, The toys. Quintessential awesome toy.
Brand. Just awesome. Anywhere you go. Sometimes
we're talking about Turtles. To me, I like the
cartoons and the books. G .I. Joe, the toys were
cool. The cartoon was cool. The comic book was
cool. Everything was cool about G .I. Joe for
me. I think G .I. Joe, that was the type of figure
anybody's recollection or toy story from when
they were a kid about any type of action figure
that was getting like burned or demolished or
dropped from trees or whatever. Like that was
JJ. That was the toy line that was getting all
the abuse. I promise you that. Um, and they didn't,
some of them didn't survive very well with their
little rubber band arms, spring arms. What's
interesting is when we look at the action figures
that we've talked about so far today, Mask, no
nomination for the Toy Hall of Fame. TMNT was
just a finalist. It's G .I. Joe, He -Man, and
Star Wars that have actually been inducted, for
whatever that's worth. Steve, what do you think
about G .I. Joe? Lick my boot, Paris! Yeah, I
love G .I. Joe. It was one of the first comic
books I got as a kid. subscribed to that series,
got a lot of the toys, got a lot of the 12 -inch
figures, got some of the smaller ones, and then
when they were hitting their 25th anniversary
at Walmart, I was picking those things up like
hotcakes. I had several of the figures that I
had as a kid, or the talking backpacks, or the
other versions of the characters. I was able
to pick up my favorite version of Cobra Commander,
which is where he's wearing the battle armor.
I know it's from the Deke series, which everybody's
kind of like, eh, that series sucks. I still
love the armor. Say what you will about the show.
I love the armor, and I wish that they'd come
out with an updated, larger version for the classified
stuff. Did you like the hood or the chrome faceplate?
For Cobra Commander, I mean. I'm sorry. I liked
the hood. I liked the face plate. I don't know
about the face plate. It depended. I didn't really
have a preference either way. Just because I
loved the voice and I loved his sniveling behavior.
I used you for the voice on our sketch, my friend.
My banner is based on the sketch that you did
the voice of Cobra Commander for on my Twitter
home. I was like, yo, I need Cooper Commander
immediately. Do me Cooper Commander. That's awesome.
I love this character, though. I love this show.
There's a lot to love about G .I. Joe. Sadly,
they've ever since... What was it? Resolute?
Yeah. Renegades was awesome. Resolute kind of
fizzled out, and then they've not really been
able to do much with it since. Not in animation,
no. Not in animation, but I wish that they would.
I really do. It has so much potential, but I
feel like Hasbro will just screw it up, especially
with what they've been doing with Transformers.
I will say that every time I see the classics,
the classified figures on the shelf, I have to
have like an internal battle with myself to convince
myself that I can't buy it. Like literally, it
was like a couple of days ago I was there and
they had a couple of the dreadknots in the classified
series. And I was just like, those look amazing.
They're so well done. Like if I can just get
the dreadknots, right. I had to have like a whole
battle with myself, but I didn't get them. And
I'm going to regret that. I have three Funko
Pop G .I. Joe figures, Cobra Commander Baroness
and Sergeant Slaughter. I would love to have
a Sergeant Slaughter classified. That thing is
awesome, too. All right. So G .I. Joe, for me,
I did not have the figures as a kid. I don't
remember having them because I was more of a
Transformers person. I could have had them. I
just don't remember them. But the thing about.
G .I. Joe with the properties and stuff. Currently,
Skybound Entertainment under Image Comics, they
are launching under their new Energon universe
a whole new run of G .I. Joe stuff with the comics.
So that's going to be really interesting. And
they are carrying over from IDW into Skybound
Larry Hama's run. So they're just taking the
run from IDW since IDW lost the license. and
going from issue 300 to 301, and Larry can continue
telling his story that he's been telling for
the last 40 -some -odd years or whatever it is.
So yeah, G .I. Joe, it may not have an animated
series right now. I don't know if it ever will
again, but the toys are out there, the comics
will be out there, and it's a good time to be
a G .I. Joe fan, I think. Are you excited that
they're crossing over the Transformers movie
with a new G .I. Joe movie, if you watched the
last Transformers movie? Oh, really? And that's
when we all lose the excitement. All right. BJ,
you were talking about, like, when we were talking
about He -Man and Turtles, like, who has the
most characters. I can tell you one thing about
G .I. Joe. You thought you were cool when you
had your, like, 10 or 15 G .I. Joes, and then
some douchebag in your class would, like, come
down the street, and he'd have, like, a duffel
bag of 300 G .I. Joes. Yep. That is so true.
It's so true. How do you have 250 different GI
jokes? How do you have an entire literal army
of GI jokes? You went home with your 12. I got
seven of them. Why do you have five hisses? There
was always that kid in the class that literally
had like, I'm like, I didn't even know they made
this many. My dad doesn't love me. So instead
of love, he gives me GI jokes. something i was
like good lord um no wonder you're bashing them
with rocks and things you got like they're just
dime a dozen all right so let's move on to number
three here uh how about a toy that made 16 people's
top 20 that's a lot or 15 people's top 10 15
people's top 10 let's knock out a toy that's
on eight people's number one eight People's number
one falls here at number three. It's not a toy
Hall of Fame inductee. It's only a finalist.
Came around about 1984 or so, guys. It's Transformers
here. So we did not vote Transformers all the
way up to number one, guys. It happened. It's
still in the top five. It's number three. Steve,
what do you think of Transformers coming in right
here? Oh, yeah. Or as Megatron would say, yes.
This one for me gets the vote because of the
uniqueness. If you're talking action figures,
there's no action figure that is more unique
than the Transformer toy line. Oh yeah, for sure.
There's so many variations, so many different
series, so many different gimmicks. Miners and
pretenders and headmasters, not to mention just
in and of itself the basic ass Transformer transforms.
And then the fact that they even have G .I. Joe
vehicles that transform into the Transformers.
Right. Yeah, the Transformers crossovers are
crazy. And talk about a toy that's just literally
been on shelves, again, almost, almost all the
way from 1984 to now. I think there was a few
years where it wasn't somewhere in there. But
it's been on there for so many different lines,
so many different variations. They just keep
reinventing itself over and over and over again.
And what kid doesn't like? a Transformer. This
can be a car and a robot. What is wrong with
the kid? Why did it take to 1984? DJ, what do
you think about the Transformers? This was the
second cornerstone of my existence. I was raised
on G .I. Joe and Transformers. That was the thing.
I got an Optimus Prime. That was the first. uh
transformer i ever got it was optimus prime you
can see how my ego grew from there i was like
i got i got the leader number one holy crap but
yeah transformers is fantastic and again that's
like gi joe the cartoon was awesome the comic
was awesome everything was awesome that was the
first movie i ever cried in Transformers, that
freaking animated movie. I've told Mike this
story a billion times. And it's funny, there's
a Pavlovian response. It's something that will
always make me stop and for some reason calm
down, is watching, and it's just him, Optimus
Prime Transform. And I know there was a guy,
I saw it on Twitter, and he had a, it was a...
larger Optimus Prime, and it was automatically
transformed. Without you touching it, it would
just transform by itself. Yeah, the RoboSyn Optimus
Prime. I saw it. I didn't know what it was. I
was just doom -scrolling on my Twitter or X,
whatever you want to call it. I stopped automatically.
I was like, this Optimus Prime is transforming.
It's going to watch. Oh, yeah, okay. Let me see
if I'm going back down. For some reason... I
mean, you can't help but watch. You can't not
look at it. It's Optimus Prime's transformations.
For some reason... And all of the transformations
are pretty cool, but for some reason, Optimus
Prime transforming with the arms going in and
him going... It's just so cool. Transformers
might be the greatest concept of a toy of all
time. The fact that it's three kind of upsets
me a little bit, but again, I understand. I'm,
you know, partial, but Transformers, just the...
Damn you, Michael Bay. It pisses me off. I just
watched Godzilla Minus One a couple weeks ago,
okay, where you have human characters that are
so... likable and good with Godzilla in the background.
And it all blends together. But Michael Bay,
for some reason, couldn't figure out that formula,
how to use one of the coolest toys ever created.
And he had five chances to do so, but he still
couldn't make a movie that was not even good,
passable to the human psyche. He couldn't do
anything with Optimus Prime, Megatron, voice
actors still alive, ruined it. I don't understand.
It is one of the greatest toys, if not the greatest
to me, the greatest toy of all time, destroyed
by Hollywood. I don't understand. I don't get
it. But it's so good. Again, with all the Michael
Bay destruction, it still doesn't ruin. That's
how good it is. It still did not ruin my love
for Transformers. As horrible as those movies
are, as despicable as those movies are, I still,
every time I see Optimus Prime Transform, go,
it's like a stress ball. I don't know what it
is. Mike, what do you say? Any other comments,
Mike? So the thing with Transformers is, yes,
I agree with everything DJ said about the films.
However, I will say financially without those
films, Hasbro would probably not be where that
we probably would not have gotten a commander
class Rodimus Prime or whatever, because. Those
movies made them so much money that the toy lines
could keep, the toy line of Transformers could
keep going and going and going just like the
Energizer bunny. My curiosity, yeah, well, it
still made them beyond $10 billion and they put
it back into the toys. Did they? The quality
control, the colors, the paint jobs. We are getting
a Commander Class Optimus Prime from the 86 film
next year and technically Beast Wars saved the
franchise way before. Yes, they saved the franchise
because Hasbro didn't know what to do with it.
Rise of the Beast is a horrible film, and they
couldn't even get Beast Wars right. Yeah, well,
they tried, but that's what happens when you
take Beast Wars and you bastardize it, and then
you don't feed it the same fuel it had from the
original show. You know, one would think all
the, you know, most of the actors are still with
us. Maybe utilize them and not make them all
sound, you know, when they run into the screen.
Yeah, I don't know. Like, make it look less,
like, grungy and, like, I don't know, like, a
bunch of trash cans rolling into each other.
They've got an animated show coming out on Netflix.
The newer one. Is it a movie, actually? Oh, yeah,
Transformers 1. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hopefully there
they maybe resurrect the soul of this awesome
brand. But, yeah. One day before I die, there
will be a Transformers movie with no humans in
it. Don't count your breath. Technically, they
already had that, but it was an animated series
called Beast Wars. Like I said with Godzilla
Minus One, you can have humans in them. Just
write them well. That's all you have to do. There
was humans in the animated series. I didn't mind
Spike. Just write them well. It's not that difficult
to do. Just did it for $12 million. So how do
you beat a toy that gets 16 top 20 votes? How
about a toy that gets 18? Top 20 votes. And this
one had 12 top 10 votes. Two people's. Number
one. It was a finalist for the Toy Hall of Fame.
It has not actually been inducted. Shame on them.
Came around in about 1983. We're going with Nintendo.
When you get hold of the Nintendo Entertainment
System. When you master Rob the Video Robot.
And meet the challenge of Gyromite. When you
shoot the light -sensing zapper. When you play
the system with so many arcade hits. You're playing
with power. The Nintendo Entertainment System
Deluxe Set. Batteries not included. Super Mario
Brothers and other games sold separately. Oh,
wow. All -encompassing Nintendo. Doesn't matter
if it's Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64,
GameCube, Wii. I don't care. It's Nintendo. It
changed things forever. It still changes things.
Video games, things of that nature. A little
bit of revolutionary here. Nintendo, number two.
Let's start with Steve. What do you think? I'm
in favor of that because one of the systems that
consistently had kids wanting to play it and
adults is the Nintendo systems and it doesn't
matter what iteration. They seem to kind of evolve
in a logical progression when it needs to and
not when it doesn't need to. My first foray into
Nintendo was with the Super Nintendo. The first
one I bought was the GameCube and then the Wii,
and then I've not had a Nintendo system since,
but that's more so because I have a PC and I
don't really want to buy another game system.
Um, but yeah, I mean, they've, they've got a
lot of great innovation, a lot of great games,
smash brothers, Mario. I mean, a lot of great
properties that are exclusive to them. So, I
mean, it's, they're, they're definitely a video
game juggernaut. Mario Zelda enough said, um,
Mike, what do you think of Nintendo? Oh, I absolutely
love it. I mean, A video game system with their
own magazine? Sign me up. You were the king of
the neighborhood if you had a Nintendo Power
subscription. That's right. The Power Glove,
whatever they all were called. Yeah, no, absolutely.
And I remember getting Super Nintendo for Christmas
in 92. I played Super Mario World pretty much
all day into the next day. I didn't sleep that
night at all. So, DJ, we had Xbox at number 91.
We had PlayStation at number 29. We have Nintendo
at number 2. Thoughts? The first Nintendo game
I played was Mike Tyson's Punch -Up. But when
you said Nintendo, the first game that popped
into my brain, because there's a million games.
Everybody's played on every system ever. The
first game that popped into my head was a little
game called Goldeneye. And we're talking about
experts before. Uno expert, Tetris expert, GoldenEye,
MFing expert, okay? So when I was a freshman
in college, yeah, best believe that Nintendo
64 was plugged into the common room downstairs.
And when we were in class, we were playing GoldenEye.
Chops, I was on a job, we were doing a whole
thing. Nintendo is... We outlawed. You outlawed?
Oh. We outlawed odd jobs. It's very hard to get
a headshot on. This is what's the pros. I would
use Trevelyan if I wanted to get a little froggy,
but if I just wanted to teach somebody a lesson,
I'd get an odd job and slap them up. But no,
the point is this. Nintendo is... It's almost
unfair, Nintendo. It's almost unfair. It literally
revolutionized... childhood that's that it's
something that when I was younger I had like
baby baby I had like an Atari or whatever and
I was like oh this is funny I saw my stepfather
had Mike Tyson's punch I was like what is this
thing you've conjured what that looks like Michael
Tyson how are we doing this Contra? What do you
mean? Up, up, down, down, left, right, left,
right. B .A. Select Star gives me 30 characters.
What do you mean? Ninja Gaiden? There was so
much things going on. You could lose yourself.
Literally, it's like Narnia Nintendo. Nintendo,
you would just fall away. How long have I been
there? A couple minutes? Two days. You've been
playing this game for two days. Yep, two days.
That's right. I grew up, obviously, with Intellivision
and Commodore 64 and things like that, but I
remember Nintendo. What happened with Nintendo,
and it's not just that it revolutionized it once,
it's like revolutionized it over and over and
over again. It revolutionized it just by its
initial thing, and then it did it again with
Game Boy, and then it did it again with all these
different things throughout time. It's like the
highest grossing movie in the world of this year.
Guess what it is? Mario Brothers movie. Yeah.
But another thing that Nintendo did was it got
into the rental. Yep. aspects of it like where
you didn't just go rent movies you went and rented
video games which i don't think ever existed
before that i could be wrong but i just remember
it was like the thing like you know you if you're
having a sleepover or slumber party or birthday
party or whatever like you went and rented a
certain game and your goal was you had to beat
it before you had to return that thing like two
days later or whatever it was that was like the
mega mans of the world that was blowing into
the cartridges to make sure it worked yes everybody's
done it but you knew like you and your like three
or four friends knew that you all had to combine
your brain power and your strategy because it's
like, well, we have to beat these guys in the
right order because we only have two days to
do this. You know what I mean? A Link to the
Past was similar like that. Goldeneye may be
the only game that I was a master of. You're
a Goldeneye master too? You're a Goldeneye master
too? I think we need to do it all, my friend.
It can only be one. There was, like, the sentinel,
which you could become the bullet, and I could
go up and down stairs. I might proximity mine
you to death, though. I think he might not make
that. I'll allow those two, though, because I
had it where if you allowed proximity mines,
the first time you died was the end of the game.
Oh, so you were going to die. Okay, I see how
you activate. You were going to die. No, because
I had all the mines set where you were going
to respawn. Oh, so you just continued to map
it out. Did you look at the walls so people wouldn't
know where you were on the map by looking at
your screen? You better not die because you're
about to die 12 times in a row. Game recognized
game. I see you. I see you. Nintendo was... I
get it. When I did this list and I was thinking
as the lists were coming in and I saw list after
list that had Transformers at number one. Like
I said, we had eight of them. I'm like, well,
there's no doubt Transformers is going to be
our number one. Then when Nintendo was ahead
of it, I was like, well, I guess it makes sense.
So that leaves only one spot. So we're going
to go with our number one, which was a couple
things about it. It's on four people's number
one overall. It's on 15 people's top 10. And
it is the only toy that got a vote that appeared
on every single person's list. So the only universal
vote goes to Lego. Emergency in Lego City Harbor.
The big container ship is on fire. Quick. To
the fire station. You can launch the new fire
boat. Hey! You can build the fire boat, attach
the motor, and rush out to put out the fire.
The new fire boat is fast, powerful, and perfect
for the job. You can save the day with the new
fire boat from Lego City. Batteries not included.
Each set sold separately. From 1949. It was a
1998 Toy Hall of Fame inductee. I believe it
was invented in Denmark, if my research is correct.
But Lego, it's the ultimate building toy. And
I was very shocked at the number of building
toys that did not get an appearance. Like, guys,
it was Lincoln Logs and Legos. That's it. Yep.
And that's all that matters, really. Well, I'm
just saying there's so many different building
toys that I am very shocked that we only ended
up with two. um because if you think about like
just like the just the blocks um erector sets
duplos playmobiles tinker toys lincoln logs mega
blocks connects like there's so many different
building toys but i guess when it came down to
it like Everybody was voting on Legos, and they
didn't have room for another building toy on
their list. So, DJ, are you shocked that Lego
comes in at the number one spot? One of those
things where I was like, Lego? Oh, yeah. Again,
it's one of those. When's Lego being turned?
Oh, I forgot, by the way, that the toy or the
thing itself, the building of it, the movies,
the video games that made the prequels good.
Everything about Legos is like, yeah, it makes
sense. There's nothing in it. Spider -Man Homecoming,
Ned pulls up a Lego Death Star. That was like
five years ago. Yes, he does. It's never going
away. It might have maybe the most longevity
of anything on this list. I think in 20 years,
people are going to see it. I think it's right
on the shelves since the 40s, basically, already.
But it's another one like you're talking about.
It's so diverse. He has all the franchise connections,
so you can have Star Wars Legos and Marvel Legos.
It's longevity. I'm talking about the future.
You could go on forever. Oh, gotcha. Yeah, yeah,
yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, that's another thing that
it's become, too, is because it's not just, like,
you could have the simple blocks that, like,
the three -year -old could play with, but then
you have these, like, complex, crazy things.
Like, there's TV shows just about Lego Masters.
Oh, yeah. I love that show. What other toy has
a game show? Exactly. there's lego star wars
helmets from every any any star wars character
that ever had a helmet since 1977 there's mando
helmets there's bad batch helmets there's a lego
land there's a lego theme park for christ's this
lego theme park here's how you know guys like
star wars has like a section of a toy aisle transformers
has a section of a toy aisle lego has an aisle
it has an aisle yeah an aisle and a half yeah
it's like two aisles yeah and the other thing
i can't figure out is like i don't know how it
survives at its price point oh it's so expensive
it's been expensive my entire life it's never
gone down it does like oh you want something
that's bigger than like this like 12 piece lego
toy i hope you have a hundred dollars Don't even
think about looking at that one that's half the
size of this aisle. Get your checkbook out. I
want the Lego Optimus Prime and I can't afford
it. It's so expensive. It just tells you it's
come from just regular old yellow, blue, red
blocks that can make a tower to something that
can make anything that we've made or had in pop
culture. It's just insane. And it's like the
train set. You can have a whole basement that's
like a village of Legos if you wanted to. The
stuff people can do with this stuff is absolutely
incredible. Mike, any shock at it being number
one? No, not at all. And it deserves it. Because
like everything you guys have already said, it's
the innovator over and over and over again. Even
though I kind of crapped on it in the last episode
as far as just in the 80s being just yellow,
blue, and red bricks. But since then, and as
they've gotten the licenses and everything else,
oh man, this, this brand is, is never ending.
And I am so happy that it is the number one.
Cause I was like, what's going to beat for us
again for us here at the geek cast radio network.
What is going to beat transformers? It's Nintendo
and it's Lego. So think about that as a top five
hot wheels, GI Joe transformers, Nintendo Legos.
Like that's, pretty impressive. I get we didn't
have Barbie in there, but Hot Wheels is the best
car toy ever. G .I. Joe and Transformers are
two of the most iconic action figures. Nintendo's
the best electronic toy probably ever. Lego,
the best building toy. They've all been around
forever, it seems like. We were talking about
getting the licensing. I think toys are going
to Lego. I don't think Lego are going to... Star
Wars, Lucasfilm's probably going, hey, you want
to make a... Some Star Wars Lego stuff. They're
going to Lego. I don't think Lego's going to
the Lucasfilm. I think it's propping up. Remember
a couple years back when Hasbro tried to do their
own Legos. I forgot. Then it flopped horribly
because they were just ugly and terrible. I think
that they were just like, hey, it's probably
better to license with Lego and let them figure
it out. So that's why we have a transformable
Lego Optimus prime. Yeah. That's impressive too.
So we will have an entire wrap up episode. I'm
assuming Mike, that we're going to get into some,
like the ones that didn't quite make it. We're
going to break down, like the, we're going to
get into the arguments of who deserved to make
it. That didn't make it all that kind of stuff.
But what I do want to give right before we close
is just the, the final stats for. Okay. Wait,
wait, wait, wait, before you do that, I just
want to let everybody know. First of all, everybody
have a happy holiday season. Merry Christmas.
Merry, happy, whatever you celebrate. This episode
is coming out Christmas Day. The recap episode
will be coming after the first of the new year.
We are taking a break. I need a long winter's
nap. The recap episode will be probably somewhere
around January 15th when you all will be able
to hear us go through all the stats and everything
else that Optimus Solo is going to tell us. But
for now... Give us the stats that you were going
to give us. For now, it's just going to give
you how those different categories ended up.
That way, the wrap -up will talk a lot about
the toys that didn't make the countdown and things
like that. In our categories, as far as dates
go, if anybody was keeping track, the final tally,
even though it was really close going into this
with a 14, 15, 15, it ended with the 1960s had
16 toys. The 1900s and before had 19 toys. And
the 1980s had 24 toys. So the 1980s came in strong
here in this last episode with nine toys to take
the lead and the victory as far as time period
goes. When it comes to toy companies, we had
a tie for the lead. And again, some of this is
debatable on who, it's not always who invented
it, but who kind of brought it to market and
that kind of stuff. Milton Bradley and Kenner
both had eight. So those shocking guys, no Mattel,
no Hasbro at the top. It's Milton Bradley and
Kenner and like followed by Parker Brothers probably
after that. And then the last one, the categories.
Number three ended up being Toys with Wheels
with 11. And then number three or number two
ended up being board games with 17. They only
had one today, guys. Only one board game, Monopoly.
That was it. And then action figures ended up
with 21. So 21 for action figures. It took it
right here at the end with six in this last episode
compared to just the one board game. So we'll
break down more of the categories and more of
the toys that didn't make it or just missed or
what we think should have or all those types
of arguments when we do the wrap up show, Mike.
Absolutely. All right, folks, that's it. The
eighth GCRN. Top 100 count. We've done 800 entries.
Obviously, there's more. But out of published
audio, 800 entrants over the last 14 and a half
years. Holy crap. We're crazy, aren't we, folks?
I need a raise. I need to get paid. Fuck a raise.
I need to get paid, damn it. Steve, DJ, any final
thoughts before I run through the closing here?
No, I mean, I think it worked out satisfactory.
I'm not angry. I was going to be angry, but I'm
not angry. And that, guys, is impressive. When
DJ's not angry, you know you've done something
well. When DJ Valentine doesn't have issues,
that's a podcast you want to hear. That is true.
I almost ranted. Then I stopped myself. So good.
Good job, List. Good job. That's right. All right.

over, Prime. Lego City. The mobile police units
have caught the robbers and need a police station.
Hey! You can build the new police station. Take
them in, get the confession, and lock them up
in the prison block. But the robbers have planned
an escape. Now you can send out the police force
to save your city. The new police collection
from LEGO City. Each set sold separately.
