ToonCast Beyond
DC Animated Original Movies Season One Wrap Up

About this Episode
Beyond good, beyond evil, beyond your wildest
imagination. So, before we get into Tooncast
Beyond episode 35, the season one superheroes
finale, TF2 and Mike here and I'm joined with
Optimus Solo. Hello. The one and only. Yes. The
infamous. The infamous, the one and only. The
person that pisses people off. That's right.
We always respond to feedback. We always have.
We always will. We always will read feedback
on air. I check the iTunes feeds once a week,
maybe, just to check. And I only check certain
ones. I know Beast Unleashed isn't going to get
a lot of reviews. I know a lot of the shows that
are already done aren't going to get a lot of
reviews. But we have a new Tooncast Classic review.
Now let me just state before we rebut this this
review Kevin and I when we first met up online
and we first hung out we spent oh god nights
nights upon nights hours upon hours Coming up
with what tooncast classic would end up being
we spent hours upon hours upon days upon days
So we put a lot of time into it, but this review
says Too Ambitious, a two -star review by G -Rev,
wherever the fuck that is, left on May 9, 2012.
It's always great to hear analysis, trivia, and
personal memories of the cartoons I love. Unfortunately,
many episodes of this podcast are hamstrung by
a lack of focus and preparation. Awkward silence
is abound in the absence of any on -air charisma
often hits the listener in the face. It's clear
that the host hosts lack strong personal relationship
with many of the cartoons, and listening to folks
read Wikipedia page isn't very entertaining.
The series would have been much improved if the
hosts limited it to a series of films for which
they had true passion. We did not cover any cartoons
or shows, or we tried not to, that we didn't
have, one of us didn't have some type of strong
tie to. So we weren't covering shows that we
lacked a strong personal relationship. So if
he got that from something, it was coming from
something else. If he got that impression, it
wasn't a bad impression, but he must've got it
from something else because we basically loved
all the shows we covered. There are some points
though that he brings up that are fine, because
this was early on and we've since adjusted a
lot of this. Obviously, yes, reading Wikipedia
pages isn't very entertaining and. we try to
curtail that as much as possible and avoid that.
That is where we get some of the source information
and some of the stuff just to like jog our memories.
But if you listen to most of our podcasts on
the Geocast Radio Network, these days you don't
hear any reading. So I realize he brings up the
point, but that's probably because he Listened
to more of the earlier episodes and he did not
listen to more of the later episodes, right?
The problem with this review is not that he doesn't
make good points But that he makes points based
on the early episodes Which we were still kind
of ironing things out and I guarantee he didn't
listen to things like the Disney spotlight I
guarantee he didn't listen to you know, some
of those later episodes now as far as being too
ambitious and At times not being prepared enough.
I'll give him that uh for part of it there was
times where we we had chogi on and forced stuff
out um and we might not have been as prepared
as we could have been um I think that's also
something that's been mostly fixed since the
early episodes Where we were really trying to
stay on schedule and trying to make sure we were
doing this this and this But I can see how you
could get that from from part of it It was an
ambitious task and it's ambitious to the point
that we're still doing it and we're still doing
it on Tooncast Beyond And we're trying to cover
just about every cartoon that any of us has ever
liked So I don't have a problem with him claiming
that we were being a little ambitious and that
we lacked a little preparation focus early on.
And that there was a little too much reading
early on. My only problem is somehow he thinks
that we didn't have a strong personal relationship
with the cartoons, which is wrong. And my only
other thing that I'd say against this review,
because overall it's an honest review, but I
seriously doubt he listened to the entire 100
episodes. I think this is based off of the first
maybe 10 to 15 episodes. Right. And the thing
is, I am one of those big thinkers. I will put
a plan in motion that will take five, 10 years.
I will make something that long. I've done it.
I've got scheduled through 2020. I'll be 40 years
old by the time MYR ends. Don't worry, guys.
We will have killed him long before that. Fuck
you. Okay, but here's the problem I have with
this. What does he say? That we lack focus and
have prepared And awkward, okay, awkward silences.
First of all, in those days, as you just said,
we were still learning. We were still getting
the editing down. We don't have, we didn't have
the editing software we do now. Okay. So, you
know, that's, that's like I said, this is, that's
why I think this is based on mostly those first.
Right. Right. Exactly. No. And that's fine. Uh,
as, as far as not being prepared, are you kidding
me? No, there was time. Hold on. Okay. There
are some. but they're also that sum is maybe
10 percent i would say because i watched all
we were on a strict schedule at that point and
there was some cartoons later you know at some
points or another where we just couldn't watch
enough of them beforehand right right um as far
as let's see where does he say uh let's see uh
and the absence of any on the absence of any
on -air charisma often hits the listener in the
face on -air charisma are you essentially saying
that we have no charisma with with the way that
we talk or are you saying that we have no charisma
or you know Connection with each other because
I'm sorry a lot of those episodes Kevin and I
argued with each other about stuff We agreed
on you know, we have chemistry if if Kevin and
I weren't able to get along we wouldn't I don't
think he's talking about the chemistry so much
I think and this is strictly an opinion from
him He just doesn't think that as as voices on
the thing that we're that we have much charisma
That's a fair that's you know he can have that
opinion All the other stuff in his review. We're
talking about more like facts We're talking about
you know whether we were prepared or not whether
we had strong relationships to the cartoon So
we can dispute that if he doesn't think we have
charisma That's his opinion, and he's entitled
to it, but you know apparently a lot of people
disagree with him because we do have 56 Radiance
so far in iTunes, and we're still at a four -star
Review score so some people do like us and do
think we have charisma. He's entitled to that
opinion if he wants it But I do you know this
is a review that's that's that's well thought
out and well written I guess Except for the strong
personal relationship with the cartoons where
he's just off on that But this is a review that
would have been helpful Back when we were recording
the episodes he listened to which I guarantee
were the only first 10 episodes all this stuff
would have been helpful back then. We've learned
all of this on our own or through other people's
reviews and we fixed all that and he should really
listen to the later episodes and then give us
a different review once he's listened to a little
bit more. Yeah, what I find with a lot of our
negative to critical reviews is that people don't
go back. It's people that listen to one episode
and it's probably like episode one. Yeah, really
bad in the first episodes and they write the
review, which I guess is what they, you know,
they can do what they want to do. But for the
people that actually sit and listen to not necessarily
all 100 episodes, but the people that listen
to more of it seem to like it. And we're trying
to fix everything. That's why we like this feedback.
We like hearing stuff like that. I just wish
it was a little more current feedback so we could
make adjustments because the adjustments he's
wanting us to make we've already made. Yes. So
with that out of the way, we're going to get
into the Season 1 finale of Tooncast Beyond.
I'm the network sensor and I object to the previous
scene. It's too scary. Change it now. Hello and
welcome to Tooncast Beyond, Episode 35, Season
1 Superheroes Wrap -Up. I am your host, TFG1Mike,
and as always, Tooncast Beyond is brought to
you by the Geekcast Radio Network and Audible
.com. This is it for superheroes for now anyway
35 36 episodes in season 1 including that special
duck Dodgers thing that Ben and I and Neil did
I Think this was an amazing Continuation of the
tooncast classic podcast We've got nothing but
huge things planned ahead for tooncast beyond
and here we go with episode thirty five which
you're gonna hear in this is three different
clips uh... one with myself been the host and
tv's mister neil talking about the dc just kind
of wrapping up the dc universe films one with
myself sketch and j t talking about the other
dc stuff in marvel stuff that we did and then
finally were to cover the delorean times that
steve megatron and optimus solo were on And I'll
come back to close the show at the end, so enjoy.
Tooncast Beyond episode 35, season one superheroes
wrap up. We'll be back after this. Get your shiny
bald head out of here, it's hurting my eyes.
That'll be enough of that. We both looked into
the abyss. But when it looked back at us, you
blinked. The bloody universe is at stake. Of
course it's dangerous. Still, more help around
here wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm glad you agree.
I've been thinking about a membership drive.
Alright, so kicking off in the first segment
here on Tooncast Beyond Season 1, wrap up episode
35. I am joined by Ben the host, hello. Hi. And
TV's Mr. Neil. This looks like a job for a stupor
duck. And we are here to talk about the coverage
in season one about the DC universe animated
original movies I'm not sure if my opinion has
changed all that much since since our coverage
of these of the movies that we did cover because
we covered from Doomsday through Justice League
doom From doom to doom. Yeah, well Sort of let's
sing the doom song. No, that's not Yeah, no,
let's not do that. Doom bookends. Oh my god.
So yeah, this is essentially, you know, recapping
and whatever else. I haven't gone back. I think
I have maybe six of these in my iTunes. I think
the only one I've gone back to watch recently
is probably Justice League Doom. I will never
own Superman Doomsday ever again. That movie
is just complete and utter bullshit. Well, if
you ever need a coaster, you know. Yeah, there
are cheaper coasters. It's called Catwoman. Well,
in a slight tangent, I must bring up that crappy
live action Green Lantern movie has been has
a Greenlit sequel, which is funny because that
movie did lose more money than Catwoman. Oh my
god, that's nuts. I wonder how many people Jeff
Johns blanked in the blank with the blank at
Warner Brothers to blankety blank blank that
movie. You know we are an explicit podcast, right
Ben? You can go ahead and say it. Well, I'm laying
it to the listeners' imaginations. Sometimes
censor beeps are more funny. It's too much editing.
And then I still like New Frontier, but it's
something that I can watch every now and then.
It's not something I would actively seek out.
I love the story that it does tell. I love the
Hal Jordan bits in it. But it wasn't something
that, you know, it's not something that I turned
to. Hey, I want to watch a Justice League movie.
Gotham Knight, I will never watch that ever again.
I watched it once. Once was enough. It's too
it's too disjointed. It's too Any thoughts on
these first three been Let's see Gotham night.
I bought it and I regret it Talk about an expensive
coaster. Yeah, and it was really disappointing
because it didn't do it advertised it was it
was false advertisement there should be a BB
there should be a better business bureau Complaint
in somewhere because it does not join the two
movies together. It does not it cannot it it's
You know if the if the glove doesn't fit you
must have quit. Yes, it's just wrong. It's just
totally wrong What about you Neil Gotham Knight
is just pure dog shit, I mean That movie that
or I shouldn't even call it a movie that collection
of shorts that Barely have continuity between
each other. Yeah, it's just oh Yeah, and then
You know, I can't believe I can't believe Conroy
put his name on that Well, he kind of didn't
have a choice. Well, I know it's it's it's casting
and all that stuff, but I just When you interviewed
him what he's have to say about that Haven't
oh So yeah, are you are you sure you don't play
in the women's leagues because that sounds like
you threw a lot of softballs there Oh, no No,
we'll ask him about it because my opinion is
my opinion of Gotham Knight is as I already said
It's too disjointed. It's six different animation
styles That none of the six does his Batman voice
fit as far as the style of Batman. It just doesn't
work for me I know Neil loves the the the pool
in Wonder Woman. Oh, yes the the playful splash
between the Amazon's Well, the whole movie is
solid I mean, yeah if it's told it's based off
of a Gail Simone script For what was originally
gonna be a live -action treatment, but it was
shortened to be in 90 minutes Or a one -hour
special pardon me and you could definitely see
where they've made cuts But at the same time
you can still see the strength in the story and
if they did that if they did this and it poured
their money into this versus the Live -action
show that was quickly jettisoned as quickly as
they made it then they might have had something
Yeah, that's that's true My favorite part of
that movie is just the whole thing with which
she's saying crap or was she saying shit crap
They should have gone with shit that would have
been better with crap. I think because just just
that just that this is that aw crap That was
great. She went from thinking it was disgusting
to embracing it And then there was Green Lantern
first flight with Elliot Stabler as hell Jordan
which told the same story as the as the Van Walder
movie, but did it better? Yeah, it's so much
better Because it was mostly about the space
opera and let's about the soap opera. Yes, exactly
And it didn't have a college kid I Know Ben's
gonna hate on this one just because he doesn't
like it, but I still enjoy watching Superman
Batman public enemies public enemies It was written
by a shit writer and the in Bruce Tim and co
did their best to try to make it make sense But
still there was so much of that of that of that
the low up DNA in there that you can't remove
it. I mean I think it's telling that Jeff Lowe
is now currently in charge of Marvel animation
No wonder ultimate spider -man sucks Well, actually,
yes, I'm I kind I'm kind of sad about that because
the animation designs look gorgeous and meant
for animation for once But then all of a sudden
the writing started and then there was iron spider,
but that's another show The number of times a
Batman should have been dead Like come on I know
I know people love Batman But they were winking
off to them more than the Teen Titans right Teen
Titans writers run quick off to rob it I didn't
think that was possible, you know Like the story
that public enemies told I enjoyed watching the
movie There was only one point in the entire
movie that I just absolutely cringed and had
to look away The kiss yes the kiss of death.
Oh my god One of the reasons why, and again,
Ben is the comic book guy. I don't do any of
the comic stuff, so I don't really know that
much about Jeff Loeb's writing. He also created
the Red Hulk, which is nothing but everyone fails
against the Red Hulk. Yeah, we basically I'll
give you a one minutes in offices of Red Hulk
which was his great character Basically this
Hulk shows up. That's a new Hulk. That's not
Bruce Banner called the Red Hulk and what he
does He beats up everybody. He beats up the Hulk.
He beats up. Dr. Strange. He beats up Thor He
beats up everyone No one can stop the Red Hulk
because the Red Hulk is that awesome and then
it's revealed that the Red Hulk is actually Thunderbolt
Ross. Oh Lord that reminds me of God what was
it Eiling turning into the Shaggy man? No general
Eiling. Yeah, the Shaggy man. He turns into the
Shaggy man Okay They might not have given them
that code name in that JLU episode, but no, but
no in the comics. That's the Shaggy man, okay
The main reason why I really overlook The bad
parts or what people perceive to be the bad parts
and public enemies is because of the voice cast
And I liked it overall Crisis on two earths was
just great. It was fantastic I mean it was none
of the usual voice cast but the cast of the gods
still knocked out of the park. Yeah, I Mean it
didn't have to be the usual voice cast because
this essentially was rewritten from Justice League
worlds collide. Yeah, between Justice League
and Justice League Unlimited, the fight movie,
yes. Right. Dwayne McDuffie rewrote it to be
what it is, you know, and you've got fucking
James Woods' Owl Man. I mean, you can't go wrong
there. But what I love is even though they rewrote
it, you can still see the hints of the DNA of
the original intent. But that doesn't hurt it.
That just makes it more interesting. No, it doesn't.
It just makes a nod for us DCAU fans. It's really
all it does. And then there was the masterpiece
of Under the Red Hood. Yep. Under the Red Hood.
The best Batman story in this universe at this
point not counting the team up not counting the
team up movies in other Red Hood did the unthinkable
it made That shitty Jason Todd comes back to
life in the comic story good. Yeah, bye You know,
it's it don't none of this stupid Superboy Prime
punching the walls of reality shit No, it's it
they have Rachel Gould do it and that just makes
it better. Yeah I love the voice cast in this.
I love how they took Bruce Greenwood from this
and put him as Batman in Young Justice. That
was just amazing. I personally think if Kevin
Conroy ever retires, Bruce Greenwood should be
the only person to ever voice Batman ever again
if Kevin Conroy is not around. Well, lower man,
please listen. Any thoughts on Under the Red
Hood, Neil? Not really. It's been a while since
I've seen it. I'm kind of well Neil Harris is
Nightwing lasers. He's got laser. Oh, yes How
could I forget that that was awesome you he?
He should be in more shit. Yes, I know he's in
more shit, but yeah, so Some of it not just shit,
but actually shit Yes, that happens all actors.
Yes And then up next was the next Superman Batman
movie the Supergirl story in apocalypse um yeah
that that's some bitch had an axe i gotta go
back on my facebook wall of my photos to see
if i still have that photo of her in the in the
outfit oh yeah yeah this this is another instance
of it's based off of a low up story and you have
batman surviving hits he has no rights of surviving
fighting an army of doomsday's an army of doomsday's
batman with an axe yeah and what was he he survived
like a like a thermite grenade by shielding himself
superman or something like that yeah and i'm
like no that doesn't work the only thing i didn't
like about this movie really bills do not work
that way The only thing I didn't like about Apocalypse
really was I think Darkseid was poorly cast.
I love Andre Brower and anything else he does,
but his voice does not lend to the awesomeness
and the epicness that is supposed to be Darkseid,
at least in animation. I mean you go from having
Michael Ironside in the DCAU to Andre Brower
in this and it's just not... it just doesn't
live up to me. and then there was that movie
that you know essentially is ass all -star Superman
superman I think I just don't think you understand
the best man that's okay but you have to remember
when I made that joke it wasn't because I don't
like the movie It was just because of what it's
titled. It's titled ass All -star Superman a
SS I get the joke Mike, but I still think that
you know You know what? I think the best urban
stories are the ones where he doesn't get into
a fistfight Right, which we'll get into later
when we talk about the we'll talk about upcoming
movies But yes, yeah You know the thing about
all -star Superman that really took me out of
it was the casting of James Denton as Superman.
I just can't picture Mike from Desperate Housewives
as the voice of Superman. It just doesn't fit
to me. It just didn't fit. I mean, I guess it
works in the context of this movie with the rest
of the voice cast, but I just... There are just
certain voices for certain characters that I
just don't care for, and his was one super...
Like, you go from Mark Harmon, Leroy Jethro Gibbs
from NCIS, as Superman in Crisis, to James Denton
in this, and I just don't think his voice fit.
I think it does because the intent was to go
with a kinder, gentler, you know, the idea of
Superman as a gentle... Benevolent being versus
a force of nature because you know when you have
all these other movies were about Superman in
a fight scene So so what it was was not only
visually but you know vocally they won Superman
cast as a force of nature and Invoiced by you
know, as we know Gibbs a badass former Marine,
you know that kind of works But but the idea
here is super in all -star Superman You know
as in other great Superman story Superman is
portrayed as this gentle Benevolent being who
wants so desperately to be one of us. It's a
it's a Neil What do you think about about my
take on this? I'm I'm somewhere in the middle.
I like I just like the idea of bringing Superman
down to earth where he's not such a such a God
Jesus type character he's more of a relatable
kind of character because what if superman was
one of us one of us one of us you know gobble
gobble yeah he the the stories that make that
make superman like bigger than life those are
the ones that kind of lose me and i find them
boring if you make him more of a relatable character
and just you know give him give him flaws here
and there but make him a very kind person and
just explore the Clark character, the Clark side
of Superman. Then he becomes very interesting
and that's why I like this. Of course the other
thing that I like was Lois. Yeah, and then one
thing that's really weird to me is is none of
these have dana delaney come back But I follow
dana delaney on twitter and she can't stop about
going on about how much she loves doing Lois
So I don't know why it hasn't happened again
Well, you know again it all goes to casting.
I mean, okay Look at how many movies have we
had so far up to doom? You know And then the
first time and we'll get to this but the first
time new burn comes back is in Superman versus
the elite Which we'll get to that in a few minutes,
but you know, I'm sure at some point she will
come back Because she needs to come back but
But yeah also Superman it if you want to understand
more of the core of what what I think Superman
should be This is a great way to explore it.
There's also many other graphic novels. I would
suggest like Like Superman secret identity available
and trade paperback read by a broad backer, which
is a great trade paperback You should all pick
up but yeah, I think we're digressing a bit emerald
nights next Yes, Emerald Nights. We're walking,
we're walking, we're telling a story. We're walking,
we're walking. Okay, hold on, hold on. Shut up.
This is my show, damn it. This is not a crossover.
This is my show, fucker. The thing about Emerald
Nights is, regardless if Nathan Fillion was reduced
to being a shitty Hal Jordan storyteller, I liked
how each of these stories in this movie led up
to the final moments of the movie, whereas, you
know, this is the one that I compare against
Gotham Knight. Gotham Knight was fully disjointed.
It was an anthology, yeah. Right. This is a movie
that has, I don't know, what is it, five, four,
five stories in it that all tell a whole, you
know, because it's flashbacks. It's, hey, this
has already happened and we're coming up to this.
That's why I like Emerald Knights, because it...
It's not just individual stories. So the best
the best seat by the lantern fire is reserved
for Hal Jordan because he's a storyteller No
Neil I still prefer John Stewart and Kyle Rayner.
I was waiting for Neil to get that reference.
I got it Any thoughts on emerald nights Well,
I remember like Some of the some of the stories
in them in that movie was kind of we're kind
of weird and some were pretty cool The well that
was the best story. Yeah logo was awesome. Yeah
but the rest but the rest are kind of like in
the idea of here's this young girl who's a new
lantern and and how's like hey new kid let's
just walk calmly while we're waiting for the
end of the whole universe and just well we're
walking we're walking you know there's no sense
of urgency there's no sense of oh my goodness
we have to prepare it's like no we're walking
or it's very you know flat well liaro was hot
so oh yeah I mean there is that and she's voiced
by Kelly whoo. So I mean there is that Kelly
who? Bonnie And then we go to Gordon year one,
oh, I'm sorry Batman I thought it was I thought
it was exiled a Gordon story. Yeah, I I Just
I watched this twice and I've only ever seen
it twice once when I initially bought it and
then once to record the episode to to in preparation
recording episode 13 of season one here and uh
i i just didn't i felt more of that they did
nothing with batman in this it was all a commissioner
gordon story Well, that was actually revolutionary
because before then Commissioner Gordon was not
really drawn apart And this really gives the
depth to the post -crisis Commissioner Gordon,
but then again This is all comic back background
that wouldn't interest the average viewer and
this really didn't do anything to the property
itself It was too clean of an adaptation, which
is what I think I said originally. Yeah Yeah,
I mean I like the action. I like the animation.
I thought it was cool But it's it's more of hey
commissioners got a gun and he's gonna go blast
and I mean it had I think I think Batman was
in maybe five scenes the entire movie You know,
yeah, it's And as much as I loved the OC back
in 2003 I'm sorry Ryan Atwood is Batman just
does not work. I'm sorry Ben McKenzie your voice
acting sucked is Batman You might even be worse
than the Baldwin Well, at least you didn't say
he was worse than the West And then of course
we come to the masterpiece which is Justice League
doom doom I can watch this over and over which
is which is a really good adaptation of a Tower
of Babel where it's the adaptation where they
don't do a scene -for -scene translation they
take a premise and then Expand upon it and do
something different. Yes I absolutely love this
This movie was just absolutely great to me. I
Had you had to get a cyborg that was actually
cool. Yes. Yes I think, by far, this is my favorite
out of them all. It was a cyborg with no shrimp
because there was no booyah base. Oh, god. Oh,
god. Oh, boy. And it wasn't anime style, because
there are a couple of cyborg scenes in Teen Titans
where his eyes bug out and it's that super cartoony
anime pop out and it's like, oh... God, stop
it. So what was the whole thing about confusing
the viewers and the reason why they removed the
chance of having Robin or Batgirl or any of those
characters in Justice League Unlimited, but all
the same time Teen Titans is running, but now
they're doing, now they have Young Justice running
and they're doing the Teen Titans anime shorts
now. What was that bullshit again? I just wanna
bring that up. I don't think that we are currently
under a bad embargo, are we? We're not, but I
just love the fact that they did that bad embargo
for superficial, stupid reasons to just tie Bruce
Tim's hands. And now that Bruce Tim is not involved
much anymore, and it's all Greg Weissman, they're
like, oh, you can have Young Justice and have
the exact same characters show up in this Teen
Titans short, but they're different characters
now. No, that won't confuse kids, but 10 years
ago, that would confuse a kid. I think that,
and later on in this episode of 2CastBeyond,
myself and Sketch and JT will be talking about
Young Justice a little bit more, but I guess
we can bring it up here as well. I think with
the DC Nation, as it's called, with Green Lantern
animated series and Young Justice, those shorts
are... Are those shits, those shorts? Yes, those
shorts are... are mainly for like I don't see
like Young Justice because I've watched pretty
much I saw like the first eight episodes of the
first season and then I caught up and I saw the
rest of season one going into what's currently
airing now in Justice League and Justice League
just Young Justice invasion in this whole storyline
and I love what they're doing with Young Justice
I think it's a great way to tell a story And
the thing with the DC shorts is that they're
paying homage to what with the Teen Titans specifically
is that they're essentially paying homage to
that craptastic cartoon. Yeah, they're making
Fezworks very happy. Yeah, I think I'm gonna
have Neil make up a... AC MY version for an ad
in this episode anyway going back to doom Shut
up Neil Going back to doom doom just it was so
awesome because it The only the only messed up.
I think doom took was they used Tim Daly I I
have I love Tim Daly as Superman I honestly do
but as I said in the episode and I'll say it
again here They marketed this as a Justice League,
Justice League Unlimited cast revival. I'm sorry,
Tim Daly had left at that point. He had other
things he was doing and he couldn't be in Justice
League and Justice League Unlimited and they
brought George Newburn in. And I think that,
you know, Tim Daly did a wonderful job as Superman
in Doom. It was great. But if you're going to
market something as a Justice League cast reunion,
get... The actual guy that played Superman in
Justice League. That's really my only gripe about
this movie. The story is great, the animation
is great. I absolutely love it all around. Now
we have the upcoming projects. I know Ben is
not a fan of the first one we'll be talking about,
but Superman vs. the Elite. A dumb story that
has an equally dumb name. I knew that this movie
was coming out, but I know nothing of this backstory,
and I'm interested to watch the film to learn
about what this is. Let me tell you. Okay, go
ahead. Okay, Joe Kelly is the writer of the original
comic, What's So Funny About Truth Dresses the
American Way, and Joe Kelly is a very... What's
the opposite of subtle, Neil? Blunt. He's a very
blunt writer. Yes around this time in the other
comics DC had an imprint called Wildstorm and
in Wildstorm there was a comic called the Authority
right the Authority was about that was about
a team of superheroes that are changing the world
in a very liberal activist way with by threatening
governments and stuff. They're led by a British
person named Jenny Sparks who wears a Union Jack
t -shirt and is a chain smoker. Basically, the
authority is this team of ultra elitist assholes
that fuck up shit. And and Joe Joe Kelly's like
well, I'm gonna do a story where Superman fights
the authority, but I'm not gonna call it the
authority I'm gonna call it the elite and so
he changed Jenny Jenny sparks into into the Into
Manchester black who's also changed smoking breath,
but it's now a guy so you take out the hotness
factor and it's gone now and Little story of
Superman versus leader. What's so funny about
truth justice in the American way is basically
Joe Kelly saying well Superman's the best you
don't need those guys and I sort of share that
sentiment but the way that Joe Kelly expressed
the Sentiment was wrong because the whole plot
of this story is the elite keep on pushing Superman
and say you look you have to kill you have to
kill and then at the end of the story Superman
In what appears to be a battle appears to brutally
horribly horribly, you know terrifyingly kill
each member of the leaf But then it turns out
no, he didn't he just used the super speed to
make it look like he did And he and that's the
moral of the story Superman Superman because
he could kill you but he doesn't That's what
Superman's about. Yes This does This will reunite
several Superman voice actors. It will reunite...
No Dana Delaney. No, no, no, but... Hold on,
hold on. It'll reunite George Newburn and David
Kaufman, because David Kaufman was Jimmy Olsen
both in Justice League and Superman the Animated
Series. It introduces Polly Piret from NCIS.
as Lois, I'm interested because I know how her
character of Abby Shuto on NCIS is. I'm interested
to hear how her voice lends itself to Lois. So
I'm interested about that. And then... You're
just picturing Lois covered in tats, aren't you?
I was trying not to, but gee, thanks Ben. You
always put weird visuals in people's heads. You're
welcome. But like I said, like I said, it's...
I just have a fundamental issue with the source
material itself, and it doesn't get the message
of Superman. If I know anything, they're probably
going to do a closer adaptation of that than
they did with Doom, because people falsely laud
this as the greatest Superman story ever, and
it really isn't. Neil, what were your thoughts
on this, on the moral of the story? Just I just
rewind the podcast when I said that the best
Superman stories are when you bring them down
to earth and make them like a Really human character
Yeah, this this movie just kind of I mean I'm
cautiously optimistic, you know It's Joe Kelly,
I mean the only good thing Joe Kelly was he he
made He fixed Deadpool after he was created by...
created by... what's his name? Like a little
created Deadpool and then Kelly wrote him as
a joke character and that's what worked. That's
the only good thing that Joe Kelly did. uh...
next up on april fourteenth twenty eleven it
was revealed that a two -part animated adaptation
of frank miller's the dark knight returns was
in the works several previous batman veterans
will be involved so the way i'm sure they're
going to have everyone is a prostitute okay i've
never read frank's dark knight returns so it
was a prostitute okay well that's I'm interested
to see how this plays out because They say it's
going to be a two -parter So even though they're
not directly connected Superman Batman public
enemies and apocalypse. That's a two -parter.
I mean that's apocalypse was essentially a sequel
film Different art style, but I'm I'm interested
to see how this this Pans out with with that
movie one thing I'm curious of seeing is there
will actually keep in one scene That is the funniest
scene in it is basically Frank Miller did this
scene, but who here who here knows what the McLaughlin
group is? No clue Neil Okay, Frank Miller did
this scene where the heated the McLaughlin group
but the question is is an ultra conservative
and in green arrows there as the as the rabid
liberal and they're doing a McLaughlin group
a public television thing And it was hilarious
that's funny And then I believe I watched this
on the Nerdist channel. Kevin Conroy appeared
on Comic Book Club. On April 25, 2012, DCAU Batman
voice actor Kevin Conroy let it slip that he
had just recorded his lines for the animated
movie version of DC Universe changing Flashpoint.
So, apparently after Dark Knight returns, they're
doing Flashpoint. I hate Flashpoint. Okay, well,
we don't even know anything about What they're
gonna do for either one of these as far as dark
knight returns or flashpoint I again, I'm cautiously
optimistic So And then I guess we should talk
about these shorts You know kind of go over those
again Spectre for me was kind of meh Jonah hex
was pretty damn good I liked the green arrow
short. I thought that was interesting. I it's
good I'm kind of reversed. I think the Jonah
hex one in Jonah heck Superman Shazam and Catwoman
are the best ones Yeah, specter is an okay one,
but I wouldn't watch it again No, but it's an
okay one, but but the green arrow didn't interest
me, but I thought it was kind of cool Super Shazam
is pretty much an excuse to have a fight between
three superpowered beings animated really well,
but it's a damn good excuse to do it. Yeah And
Catwoman was just amazing. It just was I love
how it was written by Paul Dini, by the way Well,
of course, I would never have guessed with the
lesbian subtext. Yeah, Paul Dini would never
do that. Oh Boy and I guess we should rise to
them throw in a female magician in there somewhere
Which is really funny because the one episode
of Jim that Paul Dini wrote had a female magician
I am not surprised. I'm not surprised at all
I just wanted to go over quickly since we did
our our spotlight some of the some of the profits
because Since then the profits have obviously
increased all -star Superman is sitting at at
four million Green Lantern Emerald Nights is
sitting at two million and change Batman year
one is sitting at two million and change and
Justice League Doom is sitting at three million
and change so Still sadly the one that has the
most overall gross is It doesn't mean just in
money it overall gross Right. Yes. Yes. Yes.
I see that you did there but Yeah, the one that
has grossed the overall amount of money is, Hi,
I'm Superman. I have a giant dent in my face.
And I puke blood. Yes, yes, and I puke blood
and shoot heat vision into my forehead to destroy
bombs and whatever else. So yeah. And I wear
black and have a mullet and a gun. In total.
Yeah, he was ready for the next Expendables movie.
That's what I want to see Sylvester Stallone
is the voice of Superman If only we can have
John Claude Van Damme John Claude John Claude
Van Damme as Lex Luthor Oh god, that would be
hilarious. That would be so satirical. In total,
all of the movies, including the DC Showcase
shorts collection, they've grossed $79 million
in change. And the total units sold have been
$191 ,000 since 2007. So that's not bad. uh...
it's pretty good i mean that that they're still
continuing to make these movies as we just talked
about the upcoming projects uh... and i like
the fact that you know bruce tim is kinda what
lending himself back to his his own style even
though it's easy i don't think uh... in g l t
s uh... but i'll i'll i don't mind that he's
solely in You know, he's solely working on this
movie universe. I like that. I've said it before
in this podcast, and I've said it before in other
podcasts. DC Animation, whether it's the DCAU,
whether it's other non -Tim -verse stuff, consistently
does, well, for the most part, well in their
animation projects versus Marvel, which doesn't.
It's just one shame that other than Bruce Tim,
Warner Brothers is really good at chasing away
talent. I mean, they had Brad Bird. They don't
have Brad Bird. They had Joss Whedon. They don't
have Joss Whedon. What are they thinking? So,
Neil, any final thoughts on the spotlight or
the coverage that we've given it between Tooncast
Beyond Season 1 and the Animation Aficionados
stuff? not really just that uh... in the future
i'd like to see more wonder woman well she is
in young justice and she is voiced by maggie
q so well you don't like that no i'm gonna say
i was saying i should go check that out yes you
should okay so now that i've distracted neil
to the point where he's probably not going to
be around anymore uh... ben any final thoughts
on the uh... on the coverage that we've given
these So so far pretty good coverage. Well, most
of these are good I'm dreading them adapting
more shit stories because I have a feeling that
the more shit stories they adapt the more they
have to keep in what keep in the lines so to
speak of what that shit story is right and that
just scares me because Because like I said the
the elite story was shit and I'm just I'm just
praying that they don't do the next arc of Superman
Batman because that one was super shit Because
you know talking about revenge fantasy. I mean
super members delete. That's a revenge fantasy,
but not like this What is next in in the Superman
Batman storyline, do you know about do you know
who the Ultimates are? I've heard of the name
ultimate Avengers Okay, and basically in Marvel
around that time they have the ultimate version
of the Avengers and they in the comics they were
just called the ultimates and that And that you
know, just like Joe Kelly Jeff Jones was like,
well not Jeff Lowe a pardon me I confuse the
Jeff's all the time because they're both shit.
Anyways, Jeff Lowe was like, well, I don't like
this at all. So I'm gonna write this Story where
Superman and Batman beat up the beat up the Ultimates,
but we're not gonna call them the Ultimates They're
gonna have the exact same powers and similar
costumes, but they're gonna be just different
enough where we won't get sued So so basically
Superman Batman tearing up a version of the Avengers
the ultimate Avengers just just to show oh these
guys are better okay you know I don't know I
like I said I'm I'm cautiously optimistic and
I you know I base everything off my trailer everything
off trailers that I see initially you know I've
watched all of the DC films at this point with
the animation stuff regardless whether I wanted
to or not and you know, to burst Ben's bubble
here a little bit. Just because you think it's
a story of shit doesn't mean it doesn't mean
something to someone else that maybe might not
think it's shit. It's a ban with an axe against
an army of doomsdays. Hey, that's kind of cool,
especially if he didn't have any powers. But
I know he still had his powers. So we're going
to go to some ads and we're going to come back
with the Marvel segment of episode 35. We'll
be back after this. Is this thing on? Oh, goody!
Why, hello there! It's your deviled Uncle Choker
here. I bet you're asking yourself, what could
I be possibly doing here, of all places? Well,
I'm laughing at the fact that this new podcast
presented by Keycast Radio is called Legends
of the Dark Knight. Who the heck knew the bat
was so popular? Ugh! Join Steve, Mike in sometimes
terrible food reviews on the greatest DC animated
universe, Cartoon, to ever meet Gotham City.
So join moi for the talk of the town, or I'll
send Captain Clown after you. He gets mighty
angry when he doesn't get to have his garbage
skull. So put on a nice big smile and join us
for the next Geekcast Radio Network podcast,
Legends of the Dark Knight. Tick tick boom So
up next here in Tooncast Beyond's Season of Superheroes
wrap -up show, we're going to talk about the
other DC cartoons and Marvel cartoons in those
two universes. And with me is Sketch1984, hello.
Hey. And that crazy Canucks Coke Smoker, JT from
Saskatoon. That's Coke Drinker, Mr. Blanchard.
No, it's Smoker. Don't lie. You don't smoke coke,
Mike. There's that American education system
for you. You just snip it. That's right. You
just snort it. And usually off the breast of
a hooker. Oh, boy. See, this is why Canada is
so weird. Canada. We are gonna talk about some
Marvel cartoons some DC cartoons essentially
episodes 1 15 16 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 31 33
34 And 30 and 32 as well 32. Oh god. I hope to
god. I can forget the Avengers Earth's wimpiest
heroes worst theme song ever No best theme song
ever My well not you are as old you lose the
one worst the this might show David I ain't overruling
nothing worse the theme song ever there Lincoln
by the way by the way x -men Evolution totally
the better x -men series. No not at all Okay
comparing it to Wolf reading the x -men fuck
no, it's not no comparing it to x -men 92. No,
it's not I'm staying out of that one. Yeah. You
chicken. I do not feel educated enough upon to
rank that show. But I have a feeling it's not
as good as people say it is. All right. So let's
get your... Because you guys didn't really have
a chance to weigh in on this, but Sketch, what
are your thoughts on the Superhero Squad show?
I enjoy a superhero cartoon that doesn't take
itself too seriously. I know it's not technically
superheroes, but one of my favorite cartoons
ever is the 80s Ninja Turtles and I feel that's
a nice throwback to that kind of entertainment.
It doesn't take itself too seriously, sometimes
breaks the fourth wall, likes to poke fun at
various things. I enjoy the superhero squad show.
It's fun. It's essentially satire. I mean, it's
Marvel Universe in satire. And I don't say that
as a bad thing. I think that's great that they
can, you know, sit there and essentially it is
a cartoon for kids, but there are plenty of adult
-themed references there and jokes. I mean, the
whole... In the second episode, Captain America's
like, well, Hulk? That's the phone. You have
to answer it. If it's President Roosevelt, tell
him I'm out somewhere. You know, it's like no
kid is going to get that. I mean, you know, no
kid's going to get the Roosevelt reference. But
still, I mean, it's still a great overall fun
cartoon. What about you, JT? What are your thoughts
on Superhero Squad Show? I love the show. I mean,
it was pretty smartly written. I mean, it was
totally made for kids. But there was a lot there
visually. for older Marvel fans to pick up on
right like even in the theme song like They have
the scene in the theme song where the Hulk grabs
a Fractal and then later on in the theme song
just before the end he shows up and he's morse
into you know, like a Hulk Modoc or he's in like
a zoot suit or eat Morse back Yeah, yeah, and
every episode title card was basically based
off a classic Marvel Comics Comic book cover.
So there was tons there for older audiences by
me overall There was a lot of subtle humor that
you know, the kids will laugh at that You know,
it's very like I said very smartly written because
there's a lot there for adults, too and then
you just got you know stuff like Hercules the
legendary journeys running face -first into a
TV screen Which it was one of my all -time favorite
episodes of that series Yeah, I have not seen
all of season two of that yet. I'm still waiting
to be able to get that on iTunes I know it I
know season two of superhero squad show is an
iTunes. I just only have season one right now
Yeah, I think by far That's my favorite version
of Thor is in superhero squad show. His hammer
time. Although this one episode I think it was
the one where I think it was Oh My Captain. I'm
not sure where Wolverine's just he's trying to
like work out or work on his bike and Thor's
over there pressing weights. He's like three
scullery maids. No, it's good and I think the
best Thor flashback was in the Hey, it was either
in the the one where miss Marvel Becomes enamored
with Modok who was probably my single favorite
character in the show was Modok It was or the
Thor one where Valkyrie showed up where you go
back in the day And it's like suburban California
Asgard where Thor and the Warriors 3 are garage
banned. And he's been working so hard. Oh god.
That reminds me of all those horrible, horrible
free credit report dot com commercials. Garage
banned. But no, overall, I love the fact that
freaking Spongebob Squarepants is Iron Man. And
Modok. And Modok, yeah, no, I knew that. I think
one of my second favorite characters, did you
do Dr. Doom as well? Oh, boy, you would have
to ask me that. I'll have to look it up. Do you
remember who voiced Doom in Superhero Squad Show?
Yes, Charlie Adler. Okay, there you go. That
didn't quite work on paper for me, but the execution
was... it's like you hear his name and then you
think wait why is eric raymond having superpowers
a lot of people might not get the eric raymond
reference personally i thought he sounded like
cow Dr. Doom a lot of the the villains were yeah,
but is dr. Doom modock an abomination who are
always there. I love those guys I loved how they
made Captain America like permanently almost
permanently stuck in the 1940s And probably my
all -time favorite like stuff as far as stunt
casting goes for voices I loved Mark Hamill as
Dr. Doom, because I love it when Mark Hamill
does like a German accent. It's delicious. You
mean Red Skull? That's what I meant. Sorry. Why
would you be voicing Dr. Doom? So I hate come
on mark Hamill's dr. Doom that alone is awesome.
But yeah as the red skull I love that hole He's
found in a frozen wiener schnitzel freezer Sorry
the thing about cap in this in this series, you
know, we said Where was it? I don't remember.
I think it was in Avengers We said this sketch
where Cap really hasn't had his own cartoon series
and really honestly there are only so many Red
skull Hydra Plots you could do with Cap in his
own cartoon series, but with him in this it Solely
puts him into that soul that that's it it it
Over exemplifies how much of a super soldier
and how loyal he is to America And it's not and
I don't say that as a bad thing I just I think
it's funny because you don't see that you don't
see that this you don't see the superhero squad
show portrayal of cap Anywhere else. I mean you
don't really I mean you see it here and there
but I mean because of the satire in this series
It was completely over. Very flanderized his
character. Yeah, exactly. And I don't think that's
a bad thing because it's funny as hell when he's
like, come on, soldier, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup.
I just absolutely love that. That's just so awesome.
I just want to just get a picture of that cap
just with a hup, hup, hup, hup, hup. But honestly,
my all. I love the fact that Spike from Buffy
James Marsters was Mr. Fantastic. I love. I was
like, did they ever do a new FF cartoon? They
need to get him back to do that. But my all -time
favorite voice in the show was Sulu himself,
George Takei as the Devourer of Worlds Galactus.
Ooh, can we get one of those little cream -filled
planets? and and and and and and and and and
and and and and get the entire second season
and and and watch it all the way through cuz
i i i said i have to love the first season first
the season was just comedy gold i think my favorite
running joke throughout the the first season
uh... polk hope for it will be you come with
me don't call me will be yeah or uh... Or every
time he gets crunch, and I love the fact that
it's Steve Bloom who also did Wolverine and the
X -Men. He's like, add an Antium Skeleton every
time something crushed him. And it's so, you
know, Sketch can talk about this because we did
the Wolverine and the X -Men episode, which we'll
talk about here in a bit, but it was so different.
Like, Steve Bloom knew, hey, this is, you know,
Wolverine and the X -Men, that was serious. This
is comedy. and he put a spin on his Wolverine
voice and changed it up a bit, and I absolutely
love that. It was just, oh god, that guy is so
freaking amazing. Yeah. Any other thoughts on
Superhero Squad? I think I've pretty much said
everything. Aside from that, I think it's criminal
that they never had Spider -Man on for an episode.
I know, man, but that was like a rights issue
thing because Sony had the... And also, as far
as I'm aware, the first animated debut of Spider
-Ham. Yeah, they did they did have that but I
believe Spider -man showed up in the video games
and he was voiced by Josh Keaton Yeah, I just
put in the show which bummed me out Maybe I just
couldn't put Spidey in the show But he he actually
does cuz I was wondering about them like wait
so because I was waiting like the first season
I was waiting. Okay, when okay, we got war machine.
We got this we got that cuz I would back when
I was collecting toys, I would go to the toy
stores and I would see all these superhero squad
toys and I would see all these two packs with
Spider -Man and somebody, I'm like, wait a second,
Spider -Man hasn't even been on a fucking show
yet, why is he getting a toy? Is he Spider -Man?
No, I know that, but what I'm saying is like
they have those, you guys remember those G .I.
Joe or Galactic Heroes or Infinite Heroes, those
little mini things, the - The combat heroes or
something? Yeah, yeah, they're essentially, they're
essentially like mini statues, like Transformers
had robot heroes, and they're just little mini
figures of characters, like I have Ravage and
I have Optimus Prime here on my desk. And that's
essentially what Superhero Squad Show did for
a bit in the toys, they would have something
like that, and there would be like three or four
Spider -Man versions, and it's like, when's he
gonna show up in the show, dammit. So the next
one JT was on with me so we'll probably go to
sketch first cuz sketch didn't get to give his
thoughts on this but episode 15 the Batman not
Not what other people choose to call it not what
they refer to as its proper name because we JT
and I know a couple of, or at least one, one
of the two team members of the Animation Aficionados
podcast constantly calls the Batman the crap
man. That's not the name of the show. That's
not the given name of the show. And while there
were things wrong with the show, it is in no
way filled with excrement. Exactly. Yeah, they
couldn't get away with that on Saturday morning.
I don't know, they got away with a lot of stuff
in this show, but Sketch, why don't you give
your thoughts on the Batman? Thought the first
couple of seasons were kind of weak but starting
in season three they really grew the beard as
they say I Thought it was an interesting choice
to bring in Batgirl before Robin, but that was
because of Another show which Mike doesn't like
talking about I still say that was the greatest
sin of the Batman was They basically like hey,
here's a sidekick, but it's not Robin Yeah, just
wait till the first sidekicks katana info where
the Batman will see what fanboys do with that
I'm gonna watch the first couple episodes, but
I don't have any high hopes for that show just
cuz it's anime Hey, no, it's CGI Okay, but and
the Batman yeah, and the Batman's basically the
design is pretty much the same as the Proto Batman
suit that shows up in brave and the bold a couple
of times With the big antenna ears and all that.
Yeah, that does look like him. So what did you
think of Batman's sketch? I think it had some
very good moments. I particularly liked the final
season when they had the Justice League. That
was cool to have Barry Gordon. Technically he
was probably the Flash in the Superman animated
series, but it's been a while since we've seen
Barry Gordon. You mean Barry Allen? Yeah, Barry
Allen. Barry Gordon was not a Telo in Turtles.
Get your mind off the friggin' Turtles, dude!
Can't. Always Turtles. All the time. Yeah, Barry
Allen. Turtles, Turtles. Not a Cowaboo guy. Give
me a break. Yeah, so it was cool to have him
and Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. That was good.
Chris Hart with his Green Arrow. Rockman showed
up in that. Yeah. Love that was correct. It was
a t -1000 as Hawkman Good stuff, that's that's
the first thing. Hey, it's the Terminator. It
wasn't Robert Patrick Yeah, the thing that always
Just bothered me about the Batman at least initially
is I was so used to hearing Brido Romano as spider
-man the the It was it was a pretty fun show
and over time we started doing some pretty great
action sequences and one of the episodes that
really stood out to me was the The one where
they homage the Dark Knight returns Right. Yeah.
Oh the the future one Uh -huh. That was an interesting
episode Yeah, no, I like that one so that show
actually because I was I didn't really watch
it on KidsWV. I was kind of waiting for Cartoon
Network to get around to playing it. But it only
played the first two seasons. Never really cut
around to the third or third event. Cartoon Network,
they played the first season into the ground.
Yeah. And that annoyed me. But there was at least
like two good episodes in the first season. The
face ones. Yeah. Yeah. my main gripes with the
batman is that the clay face thing was just too
weird like coming from and i'm not even comparing
the two series but coming from the story that
was in btas with with matt hagen you know being
an actor versus what they did in the batman with
ethan the cop because and the whole joker angle
that just kind of i don't i didn't like that
that version of clay face That is like that version
of the Joker. It was okay. You mean the white
delbino monkey with kung fu powers? I mean, he
was delightfully insane, but... Yes. And I love
Kevin Michael Richards' Joker, like his take
on the Joker I loved, but I really didn't dig
that Joker until he got out of the tie -dyed
straight -jacketed into the classic orange and
purple. Yeah. Yeah. And the one thing that I
have to say, and again this is the second for
me personally, this is what I consider to be
the second biggest sin of the show, was the Batmobile.
I love the 89 style Batmobile that they had in
like TAS, but that second version looked like
it would steer like a brick. You mean in the
Batman like where they got where he got the stretch
version I oh, yeah, yeah heard the Hot Wheels
Batmobile that he had the first couple of seasons
because that actually was kind of badass Right.
Yeah. Yeah, and it made sense because they have
all these secret bolt holes all over the city,
you know It looked like you know It's a younger
hipper Batman with a lot more tech gear that
looked like the type of it It's like it's like
he went home and he borrowed his dad's car when
that second version came out. Right, yeah. So
that's me. I don't think anyone else really had
a complaint about it, so. Yeah. People give this
show a really hard time, and I don't think that's
really fair. I'm going to have to like, initially,
the only reason why I really even, I mean, I
knew of the show back when it was airing. The
only time I really was paying attention was after
it hit Cartoon Network And it was running new
episodes or it might have still been on kids
WB. I don't even remember it was Okay, all as
I know is one week. They're like hey Here's season
five. Here's the Batman Superman story Here's
Tim Daly is Superman and Clancy Brown is Lex
Luthor and Dana Delaney is Lois Lane or what?
I I think Dana Delaney came back to do Lois.
I forget but I know I know Clancy and And Tim
Daly came back I saw the first episode on TV.
I saw the part one on TV Went to watch the next
week. It never fucking aired It the second part
never aired I waited for level parts and a half
and it never I never saw it so when I finally
found out that the season 5 DVD was coming out
the only reason why I Bought the season 5 DVD
was to see that episode now people are be like
TFG of Mike what the hell? Let me let me just
bring it back here I did buy it specifically
to be able to see the second part of the Batman
Superman story, but I also, you know, once I
bought it and I saw the extras that were on it
and I saw all the other team ups in season 5,
I'm like, oh, okay, cool. I want to watch this.
And I watched the fifth season by far is my favorite.
I've seen bits and pieces of the third and fourth
season. I've seen the first two seasons endlessly
when Cartoon Network and Boomerang was playing
them. I do want to go back eventually and watch
the entire series. uh... you know if netflix
ever gets rights or permission to show it on
stream i mean none it pisses me off this is just
a general note here about about dc and and marvel
to a certain while more marvel's got most of
stuff on there but dc hardly has any of its animation
on netflix for streaming whatsoever i don't know
why they can't reach an agreement with netflix
that makes no sense to me whatsoever Alright,
so next up we had episode 16 Batman the brave
and the bold so Yeah sketch was on this one so
JT give your thoughts about brave and the bold
Okay, I'm I'm gonna try and be as polite and
diplomatic as possible right about what everything
you said about the show is your own opinion it
is has been reasoned out to a point I will not
disagree on anything because again it is your
opinion I just don't understand okay you didn't
like Oswald and Drew Carey why do you have the
show like that. Like, you didn't like D. Drake,
but just say, I don't like his voice. No, no,
no, no, no. I liked the, I love watching Drew
Carey. I loved the character, first of all, to
Drew Carey. So you don't like D. Drake Bader's
voice. Just say, I say you don't like his voice.
I don't think it's a Batman voice. Fine, fine.
That's my opinion. I think people miss that because,
just let me finish, because you keep that, that,
that, that. What I don't get is why you have
to be so, okay, just say you don't like his voice.
You're so freaking like, he must die. Like that's
what it comes across when you talk about Diedrich
Bader as Batman. Like, I don't get it. It's fucking
Oswald. Give me a break. It's not fucking Oswald.
Like yeah, you don't like the, you're not a big
comic guy. You don't, you know, you didn't like
the big goofy stories. But he like sketch said
he had the best take on Batman for that Batman
just as Kevin Conroy Who is the overall far and
away the best voice actor for Batman, right?
You know, it's just but anyway I say I disagree
with your hatred of Dietrich Bader. The other
thing that I disagreed about in that episode
Well, the shows are somewhat comparable in terms
of for kids and for adults Superhero Squad is
not the better show. It is a very good show,
and it deserves to be counted amongst comic book
or cartoon shows like this. But it is so not
that much better than... It isn't a great show,
but it is not better than Brave and the Bold.
Sketch, remember in Earth's Wimpiest Heroes,
we were talking about how I liked the... the
the team up of Justice League versus the Marvel
team up of Avengers where in cartoons I liked
seeing the Marvel heroes on their own versus
a team up. This is the exact same opposite thing
with Superhero Squad show and Brave and the Bold
where I liked the fact that Superhero Squad did
the team up and Brave and the Bold. Yeah, sure,
it's for kids, it's also for Silver Age comic
fans. You gotta remember also, I don't read a
lot of comics, let alone anything from the Silver
Age, so coming in cold to this series, regardless
of my thoughts on the fact that Dietrich Bader
is voicing Batman, I like the guy overall. You
like super friends, right? Eh. kind i like it
as a kid i don't know if i can watch through
it now that that well guess no bread the balls
like it new version of super friends basically
yeah but super friends was a product of the times
though brave in the bowl is trying to harken
back to those times that isn't that is a good
point you know it is not at all a product of
the times uh... you know When you consider the
two pre -existing Batman shows, doing another
serious Batman as they're attempting to do with
Beware the Batman is a questionable venture at
best. And Batman hasn't always been this grim
character. There was plenty of times when Batman
was more fun. He was still very serious. deadly
serious but he could still have fun and i think
raven the bold does a good job of contemporizing
that concept it does it does but i think where
okay all three of us are children of the eighties
for the most part um in the eighties we had when
he had the split personalities because it was
like the ninja turtles uh... and then you have
the group all okay a slacker that that does not
be dot shows we're all children of the eighties
here in the eighties you would have the cartoon
intro theme song what you don't take transformers
judge or whatever there's the intro and there
is the rest of the episode in the nineties with
television tv shows and cartoons as well they're
started to become a change nine you know nineties
and and early two thousands that the the change
happened where you would have a like a a preview
scene the intro whatever that intro would be
in the rest of the show my problem with brave
in the bold outside of the fact that it's fucking
oswald uh... is that those I was so confused,
because like I said, I had never really read
any Silver Age comics, and I had only known the
previous cartoon series, and obviously the 66
live -action show and Super Friends and all that.
So when Diedrich Batman is on another world,
or in another time zone, or in the future, or
something, and then it goes to... the intro and
then it goes to whatever the rest is it it's
almost like a two -part story in each episode
that intro is like totally separate from what
happens in the rest of the episode after uh...
the title cards uh... and that's really what
confused the hell out of me because i'm like
this is not batman batman does not go through
time and span is not fucking doctor who even
though he was totally doctor who yes i know but
as i say that's where i kind of get confused
and i just kind of lost interest in the series
now there are certain episodes that i've seen
that i absolutely love uh... specifically super
batman a plot uh... planet x uh... at the series
finale with peter herman is that might that's
awesome any that might have said it's just amazing
yes that's true now that's uh... I guess that's
a fair thing to not really like the concept of
Batman being basically an intergalactic time
traveling hero. It just didn't fit with what
I knew of what Batman is. Now I can be open minded
to a new concept for the most part, unless you're
a shitty cartoon called Voltron Force, but it's
one of those things where it just... It just
made me like, okay, I guess this isn't for me.
I guess this just isn't for me. This isn't the
Batman that I know. It's kind of like, get your
Star Wars out of my Batman. You're talking about
the lightsaber, aren't you? Yes, exactly. You
know, I'm sure at some point my jadedness over
the fact that Dietrich Bader voiced Batman will
subside, and at some point I will go back and
really give the series a try, but as of right
now, it's... BTAS is by far the best. No one
can argue that. BTAS is by far the best. BTAS
is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the best. BTAS is by far the best.
BTAS is by far the So the next one that we had
in the Marvel DC we're actually gonna stick with
DC for a bit the next one we had was episode
19 where sketch and I talked about the classic
40s Fleischer Superman shorts Let JT go first
on this one, since he wasn't on that episode.
What are your opinions or your memories of watching
these on TV? Because I remember watching them
on TV, obviously. None of us were born in the
40s to see them in theaters. But what are your
thoughts on Fleischer's Superman? I loved these
cartoons growing up. I think just two videotapes
would have been a total of 16. There might have
covered the entire thing of this series But this
is like the first Superman cartoon I ever saw
like before super friends before the like 87
animated series I loved it like I loved the art
style how you know the whole rotoscoping thing
making it seem like a film Any had goofy stuff
like the one with the dinosaur that thaws out
in like five seconds ala Megatron from the Transformers
movie. And just the goofy Looney Tunes -esque
that episode. It was just epic and awesome. And
I loved how almost every episode of the Flasher
cartoon ended with the wink and a nod from Clark
Kent to the audience. Thanks to Superman. And
he's just like, you know it. You know and just
and I love the fact that like every episode he's
good you get the As he's in the phone booth,
which is such one of my all -time favorite like
facets of Superman lore was the phone booth thing
Which they don't do really that much anymore
and they haven't really done it all in the new
52 But the less I speak of that the less chance
there is I start cursing out loud Because Dan
Taddeo is a fucking idiot Dan DeDildo, yeah,
he is a fucking idiot. But yeah, Flesh or Superman,
this is... I would recommend this to anybody
who likes cartoons in general. Not only superhero
cartoons, people who are Superman fans. Everyone
should watch this. You know, I said in the actual
episode, everyone should at least watch these
shorts once. For me personally, I watched through
all 17 of them. actually I watched through 14
of 17 and I just couldn't like after short number
eight when when Fleischer stopped and Famous
took over in short nine it was like oh god really
this is what they're doing and I just couldn't
get into it but I always will have that nostalgia
of that very first episode Superman aka the mad
scientist with the mad scientist in the large
large honking bird and everything else i always
have that nostalgia factor of of uh... watching
that as a kid and they are they are very good
i you know as i said the episode i say the first
eight shorts which is what flasher actually did
the rest of them is what's uh... flasher became
famous studios and they're they're not as good
uh... sketch any other thoughts yeah i think
anybody who Likes cartoons should check out these
they're pretty easy to find So they're all on
Netflix. Yeah, they're all on Netflix. I think
they're all on Hulu They're they're everywhere
basically because I I believe they're public
domain now Yeah, actually there's a website I
think it's either called the Internet Archive
or the Internet library where you can go and
download them for free Nice Yeah, so people should
definitely give them a look. They decrease in
quality, as famous takes us for. And they get
quite a bit racist, actually. You know what?
And I'm not going to lie, that is one of my favorite
episodes, just for how over -the -top bad it
is. And how over -the -top racist I mean, you
know, it was but you know, it was the 30s the
40s everyone hated Asians. So Wow, but yeah,
no, I love that one and that the first time I
ever saw that was actually that was one of the
last ones they ever saw cuz I didn't have them
all in those two videotapes so I saw that in
high school and then a buddy of mine dropped
the science on me about the Bugs Bunny Japanese
cartoon. This is like the Japater Superman sent
me on the hunt for that one. Oh Boy, I do not
want to see that I Just are you sure you're not
morbidly curious? No, not at all. No, I know
I say Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny cartoons. Thank
you Alright, so in the 20th episode of the podcast
in season 1 Sketch and I talked about the amazing
the awesome puts Teen Titans to shame Young Justice
and holy shit Young Justice Invasion. Oh my god
now this episode won't air for a couple of weeks,
but have you guys seen this week's episode? Not
yet Cover your ears JT. Oh here. I'll just I'll
plug my ears and type Yeah, holy shit We find
out what happens to Wally and Artemis. They finally
showed up. Yeah, people were theorizing that
they'd probably be... That was freaking awesome.
I just absolutely love this show, but since JT
wasn't on the episode, what are your thoughts
on Young Justice, sir? JT! You might need to
message him. Yeah, no, I heard you yell there.
I love this series. This, like Brave and the
Bold, is a love letter to DC Comics. It's a better
love letter than Brave and the Bold, but yes.
It's a love letter, not necessarily better, and
we're gonna end that subject here, Mike. Give
me your thoughts on Young Justice. I love this
series. Probably the breakout voice in this for
me is Nolan North, as I love the fact that he
plays Superman and Superboy. Right. You know,
uh... Really? I didn't know that. Oh, cool. No,
uh, I love the thing, the only really negative
thing that I can say about this, uh, I did not,
I do not like Jeff Bennett's Joker. Uh, it's
too much - That's not Jeff Bennett. Wasn't that
Jeff Bennett? No, that was Brave and the Bold.
No, this, uh, this one is... He was Data on Star
Trek. Brent Spiner. Oh, Brent Spiner. Yeah, like
I love Brent Spiner and everything. But no, I
did not like this Joker. It was too Heath Ledger.
And it was like, there's no whimsy. I'm not saying
the Joker has to be like Brave and the Bold Joker,
but it doesn't have to be like all Mark Hamill.
But there was just, there was no element of theatricality
with him. He just looked like a crazy loon with
face paint. But no, I love this series. Like
I said, I love Nolan North just because, you
know, it gets the whole angry thing I love how
they gradually build the backstory of the light
and you know you you know they're building towards
apocalypse and dark side and the new gods because
my favorite episode was the what's the name of
the one where the where the young are the forever
people show up like the I can't remember the
name of the episode where sphere turns into the
super cycle for the first time and They go off
and you get the idea that you know dark side
or everything is in the background That was probably
my favorite at one of my favorite episodes of
the first season I'll and I love the fact that
they brought Bruce Greenwood over From under
the Red Hood to do Batman. I love I love his
Batman like he Kevin Conroy ever retires loses
his voice Bruce King Bruce Greenwood gets the
call. Oh, yes. I totally agree with that. He
is by far The best one outside of Conroy, yeah
No, I mean this series over like I said, it's
a love letter because you know You get all these
little nods and everything and the one thing
just as a comic book fan the two things I know
is right from the first episode one is the Justice
cave you know, Mount Justice. That was the first
original headquarters of the Justice League in
the comic books. Like, they would, when they
go for a meeting, they truck all the way out
to Rhode Island, to this rinky -dink town, Happy
Harbor. You know, Wonder Woman would crack open
that big -ass leather -bound book and start taking
dictation because she was the secretary in the
comic books. And then this one, they made it
badass. It's like Mount Justice is like, ooh,
I like it. You know, I just hope that whenever
Darkseid does show up that his plots aren't constantly,
ooh, how could I get in Wonder Woman's panties
this week? No, I'm pretty sure they're going
to take a cue from Justice League and not Super
Friends. He's like, I am notely and no one will
love my cracked -ass face. What were you going
to say, Sketch? I don't think I was going to
say. Oh, I thought you were going to say something.
Yeah, Young Justice. It's still going on. It's
still amazing. I was kind of confused this week,
but... I still loved it. I loved seeing what
we saw this week, so we'll have to continue to
watch for that one. In episode 21, Sketch and
I tackled Spider -Man, the new animated series,
or MTV's Spider -Man. Sketch, any thoughts on
MTV's Spider -Man? It's okay. Oh, wait, you are
on the... I mean, JT, damn it. Shit. No, I saw
a few episodes when this was on YTV here in Canada
back in the day, and I really did dig the series.
You know, the character designs were a little
meh, but, you know, at CGI, you're kind of limited
with form and function and all that. But I like
the fact that... It's firmly entrenched in the
Marvel. What was the Marvel uni movie universe
at the time, right? Yeah, no, I mean they even
got Michael Clarke Duncan to come in and as Kingpin
in the one episode He had Rob Zombie as dr. Curtis
Connors which totally see that's where the show
took that sharp left turn from the movies cuz
Yeah, you know it wasn't the Dr. Connors from
the movies. It wasn't Dylan Baker. It needed
to be. It needed to be Dylan Baker, I think.
No, and I love those at least a little as Mary
Jane Watson, Ian Ziering, who from 90210 and
the good Godzilla cartoon as Harry Osborn. Is
there such a thing as a good Godzilla cartoon?
Yeah. You played Matthew Butterwick's character,
didn't you? Yeah, that series made the 98 Godzilla
movies somewhat bearable. I haven't seen that
movie in so long. Sexual. Where's the fun in
that? But the piece de resistance from the series
was Spider -Man himself, NPH. Yes, Neil Patrick
Harris. My only real gripe with this series was
actually two gripes. I'm not sure if Netflix
is airing his - They are. Okay, did you look
into that since we did the episode? Because every
episode, we'll say next time on Spider -Man,
a couple of times it'd be like the previous episodes
or the - Are the next time ons messed up? What's
the deal with that? It's not that the next time
ons are messed up. It's that they loaded them
in the wrong order. Oh, okay. Yeah, that was
one of my grapes. The other grape I had was...
where does spidey put his clothes cuz you know
he'll he'll jump off a building as peter parker
and come up as spider it's like you know what
does he do put him inside a little web and stick
it to the side of a building someone would see
that i mean that i mean i know that's a little
that's a nitpicky gripe but i mean it's a it's
a i think it's a legitimate great because in
every other spidey cartoon you would, you know,
he would either change at his house or on the
roof of his apartment building or something,
and you would see where he would put his other
clothes, but in this one, nope, just jump off
a roof, come back up as Spider -Man, and you're
good to go. Alright, so next up we had Sketch
and I tackled the unspectacular Spider -Man,
so JT, what are your thoughts on speck -spectacular?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR?
UNSPECTACULAR? UNSPECTACULAR? Well, actually
I think the MTV series did yeah that too but
I mean that was kind of obscured by the CGI the
shiny if you were But no this one he moved, you
know, it was animated and it was it was a cartoon
It was what a cartoon should be Spider -man should
be ping -ponging all over the place snapping
off quips and web shots in the same seconds Like
are you high? I would hope to attach to spider
-man 94 and I love I love spider -man 94 but
once again the glasses of nostalgia obscuring
your vision Mike not really I and move like a
spider he was absolutely hilarious like this
there's like a video that IGN made that's just
quips from the first season it's like five minutes
long of the just quips and they're all awesome
yeah and honestly my favorite animated version
of venom to date like the just the lead -in like
the the build -up to venom right the development
of the symbiote you know a lot of nods to there
are a few classic nods to like the whole uh to
the whole spiderman history like in the second
season where Spider -Man's trapped underneath
this piece of machinery in the master planner
slash Dr Octavius's lab directly echoes one of
the most classic issues of Spider -Man where
he's got to get this radioactive isotope medicine
to Aunt May or she's going to die for the 15th
time. You see him fight and struggle and lift
this piece of machinery that he has no reason
to lift this thing. Right, you know it is one
of my single favorite moments in spider -man
animation history was that and The other my other
favorite thing about this the the introduction
of the villains and the fact you know There it's
all basically, you know, Norman Osborn once superhuman
mercenaries. So you see the origins Done -in
-one for Sandman for Rhino for dr. Octopus, which
I kind of like the lead -up to the lead -in to
dr. Octopus the episode because here Peter McNichol
is fucking awesome as Doc Ock You know, this
is Yanos from Ghostbusters 2 we're talking. I
know I Mean, I love pretty much all the redesigns
the only thing I I just didn't dig was making
Gwen the nerd Like because in the comic books
like I grew up reading the comic books and you
know I got into reading the back issues It's
not that she was not smart in the comics. It's
just she was never you know Frumpy, you know,
she didn't have glasses. She wasn't right pining
for Peter Parker from afar She was a hip happening
girl not unlike Mary Jane Watson Although I love
how how they did just like in the comic books,
they had, you know, the lead is like, yeah, Miss
Watson's gonna send her niece over for a blind
date. And Peter's like, oh God, you know, and
then he opens the door and it's like face it
type, you hit the jackpot. And he's like, yes,
there it is. You know, so there was so many good
things in this series, man. It's awesome. I just
don't know what else I could say about that I
haven't already. Well, let's let's move on because
until until the series gets added back to Netflix
the only thing I can say is I saw the first episode
and The animation style it is just incredible
I tell you it is probably going to be the best
spider -man cartoon that will ever be made And
that is it is so sad that it didn't get a third
season Because it's so good, but you know I guess
I'm okay with the trade -off for Young Justice.
Even so, I love Spider -Man and they did Spider
-Man so well and they connected things really
well. Greg Wiseman is really great at doing these
stories where everything matters, where you can't
leave an episode out because you're gonna miss
something. Aw man, so good. they had some kind
of quirky ideas here and there obviously they
did a lot of rewriting of character origins and
stuff but all in all it's it's a love letter
to the Steve Ditko and Stan Lee original comics
and no other cartoon is quite as Spider -Man
to me it is it is by far the best In episode
23 sketch and I tackled the yet unfinished season
1 of Green Lantern the animated series So JT
give us your thoughts on on gltis. Have you had
a chance to catch this at all? I'm up to about
the fourth episode right now really you're so
far behind well, yeah, but I Do what did it start
airing in Canada man? It airs pretty much concurrently
with the u .s.. It's just I haven't gotten around
to it. I dig the animation style. I like the
fact that it's, you know, Bruce Timm art with
a CGI paint job. It's, I think the thing that
just, it looks, to me, it just bothers me a little
bit because it seems so soft, you know, just
with the CGI of it. But other than that, I love
Josh Keaton as Hell Jordan, you know, Kevin Michael
Richardson as Killawog. and I dig how they're
basically taking I wouldn't necessarily say horrifying
but the idea like is in the comic books the red
lanterns basically vomit napalm blood a lot and
in this one they're just they're fueled by hate
and rage and they've got a ring so I'm surprised
they managed to make that palatable to you know
modern audiences but other than that I I love
the show and I just haven't seen enough of it
yet to really have a full opinion. Although I
love how they hijacked the Interceptor in that
first episode. It was very much a little bit
Hal 2001 mixed with war games with would you
like to play a game? Oh, what's the word I'm
looking for? He basically bamboozles an advanced
alien AI into taking a joyride. He sweet -talks
the ship. Oh, yeah. No, yeah. He sweet -talks
the ship. I mean... Well, if the ship was voiced
by Gray DeLisle, you'd sweet -talk her too. Well,
you know, he's right there sketch. No, it's true.
It's just... I love the fact that... it's not
even a flesh and blood female and he's got her
wrapped around his little finger. I think this
is the only time in the past ten years or so
that I've actually liked a Hal Jordan incarnation.
Um I mean Justice League you really can't count
because He was only in once in future thing part
two for like five seconds of a time shift I mean
it was it was cool. It was nice to see him. It
was a it was a cool homage, but I Mean even in
super friends I I've I had never really cared
that much for hell when I started caring about
Green Lanterns It was Kyle Rayner and STAS and
John Stewart in Justice League, and then there
was that craptacular Van Wilder Lantern movie
So, you know, there's that but no GLTIS is just
amazing JT you're gonna absolutely love I I don't
know what the episode number is offhand, but
it happened a couple weeks ago So it's probably
like episode 8 or episode 9 they do a star sapphire
story And the latest episode that we've seen
to the point of this recording, they're introducing
more lanterns. So that's very, very awesome.
I can't wait to see where that goes. Sketch any
other thoughts since we recorded the episode?
Yeah, it's been a really solid season. Yeah.
Even though it doesn't do a whole lot of continuity,
it does bring back characters that we saw earlier
in the season already. It has its continuity,
but it's not like taking a piece of the X -Men
and making a four or five part... multi -part
episode. I mean, the series does have its own
continuity, but at least it's not something like,
oh god, what can I compare it to today? Sketch
is gonna hate me for this, and there really is
no continuity in this comparison, but it's not
like something like a regular show where there's
no continuity whatsoever. Actually, there is
a bit of continuity in that show. Anyway, it's
very loose. So Green Lantern TAS, absolutely
amazing. Everyone should check it out. One thing
we're not mentioning here in the superhero season
is Thundercats. But essentially, Thundercats,
Young Justice, and GL have brought back Saturday
morning cartoons. So I thought that was kind
of cool as well. at least for an hour and a half.
The next episode, JT and I tackled the Un -Incredible
Hulk from 1996. I'm sorry, you're wrong about
that, Mike. So clever. Un -spectacular. Un -incredible.
That's right. Hey, it's a nice way to insult
the series. Can you call it Iron Man the Unarmored
Adventures? I loved our I loved our you were
on that episode I love no no wait no I was not
an episode but anyway we'll get to that in a
minute uh JT not JT uh Sketch give your thoughts
on Incredible Hulk from 96 uh 90s Incredible
Hulk I thought the first season was pretty good
and the second season it sucked it was just silly
I guess that's okay But when you have a pretty
serious first season and then you switch over
to because there was a lot of Network tomfoolery
in that case and it's all UPN's fault Shouldn't
have put it on UPN in the first place should
have been on Fox Yeah, cuz if it was on Fox the
second season wouldn't have been as Craptacually
girl -friendly as it was Hey, we can make it
better Let's make the Hulk girl -friendly What?
No, it was it wasn't all girl -friendly. They
brought his cousin on full -time Yeah Yeah, and
I appreciate that they brought in she Hulk that
was cool in the first season and then that uh
Yeah, they didn't do so good in the second season.
Yeah, but they did cram a pretty good story into
the first season. So I think it's one of the
better 90s Marvel cartoons. My favorite would
be Spider -Man and maybe the first, not first,
second season of Iron Man. And I'm not sure about
X -Men yet because I need to watch that again.
Hulk is probably like fourth. at least the first
season. Right. Because multiple shows had the
most serious track record on quality season versus
crappy season. Well, that's what I was saying
to JT in the Hulk episode was it surprised me
that, you know, Hulk season one was good, season
two was bad, Iron Man season one was shitty as
hell, and season two was good, you know. Yeah,
but I think I have a reason for that. It's because
of when it came out. because the second seasons
of Iron Man and Fantastic Four from the 90s came
out slightly before that Hulk season. It's kind
of a good thing going for a while and it fell
off a cliff and that's how we got that early
2000s Avengers cartoon. We don't talk about that
here. You don't talk about united they stand
because united they fall I'm sorry Mike there
there was no such early 2000s at Avengers cartoon.
You really got to stop lying about that stuff.
I He was the one that brought it up. I just said
it was no it doesn't exist Mike There was never
an at Avengers cartoon before the current one.
I don't know what you guys are talking about
So episode 25 was X -Men Emo. The best X -Men
cartoon. No, not at all. Totally was. Best. So
JT did give his thoughts in a voicemail during
the episode, but do you want to expound on those
thoughts, I guess? Oh, an ex -pun. Yeah, I mean,
yeah, I like like I told I've told Mike this
several times off air You know not even about
cartoon the X -Men cartoons like I like the 90s
series. It's just It was basically retreading
comic books that I had read read like a couple
of years before so I really Didn't need it that
much right and I like I said the art style just
kind of bothered me what I loved about the x
-men thing is like they it was like they weren't
retreading x -men history they were making something
new and very worthy of the legacy I mean sure
they changed stuff like Wolverine knew Professor
X before becoming an x -men and you know they
I loved what they did with Magneto like they
made Magneto much more of a sympathetic villain
right in this series than any other form And
I just like the gradual introduction of like
really all the other X -Men like if you have
this original class and Then you bring in you
know like the new mutants and Some X for like
would would technically be X -Force members in
the later seasons I think my favorite episode
out of the whole series or one of them anyhow
not absolute favorite was the One I think was
the first mesmer episode like leading up to Apocalypse
where it was the original X -Men, Cyclops, Marvel
Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Angel. Right. You know,
I loved all that stuff. Like, I think this is
the better series. Now, Mike has a lot of love
for X -Men 92 and that's great. I will respectfully
disagree. I will agree to the point that... The
later seasons of Evolution are good. Past season
three is good. The first two seasons are just
X -Men versus Brotherhood, emo is all hell. I
hated what they did with Blob in this series,
that was just dumb. They essentially made him
a stalker of Jean Grey, that was just stupid.
That was creepy, but it's better than... At least
the fact that he was huge like that, he wasn't
so grotesquely obese like the comics. You know
he actually looked like he was yeah, you know
Yeah, he was just some overweight Rick You know
kind of like how they made him in the Wolverine
movie that no one really likes to talk about
even though it exists. Oh You mean origins? Yeah,
yeah So there is that yeah, so next up Yeah,
it was sketch and I tackled Comparing these two
I like this better than evolution Wolverine in
the X -Men this was friggin amazing. I love this
show JT. Do you have any thoughts on Wolverine
in the X -Men? I think as much as I love X -Men
evolution. This is my favorite X -Men series
You know kind of somewhat contradictory. I mean,
I love them both so much but I think this is
the superior product overall because this is
like the This is the young justice of Marvel
animation. Yeah. Because there is so many references
to classic X -Men lore and events. I mean, the
whole idea that basically throughout the season,
Professor X is alive in the Days of Future Past
storyline where the Sentinels have taken over.
Right. He's got to rally the... Rally the mutants
and everything. I love the fact that, and this
is just nitpicky awesome for me, is the... I
was... I've been reading the uncanny X -Force
comics for the last couple years and the character
design of the Vanisher who's the teleporting
mutant in the future story storyline is that's
the character design from the comic books which
I thought was an awesome nod. I love the fact
that they took the whole discrimination to a
different place with this series. Oh yeah. The
fact that they didn't shy away from that was
awesome. And the fact that they are also, I guess,
cognizant would be the word, enough of the whole
idea that, well, as evil as some humans are,
you still have to show that we're not all bad,
specifically in that first episode where Wolverine
goes to bail about, and of all things, a mixed
race couple. Not that they intended to do that
as any sort of political stand just the idea
that they had that I thought was pretty mature
and forward -thinking So I mean that first episode
was awesome, and I love the constant the gradual
revelation of everything throughout the series
You know the building of the threat I love the
brotherhood in this series because it made More
sense like Magneto has accomplished. You know
he's got Chinosha. He's got the mutant paradise
whatever you want to call it and the brotherhood
comes off as like these very fanatical you know
mutants good humans bad rah rah sis boom bah
like they just drank the kool -aid yeah you know
aside from quicksilver and i love toad in this
series toad this is probably my favorite version
of toad like as much as i love to let toad toad
tolansky in evolution I just love the one reason,
like, the backseat of the car and he's like,
you don't know who's coming to get me, Popos!
And he's just talking all this incredible smack
and he has nothing to back it up with. Yeah,
this is probably the only, in animation, this
is probably the only version of Toad I can actually
stand and like. Only because his scenes are always
very brief. Yes. Exactly. Yeah. The best toads
are the ones that use their tongues and get electrified.
Oh wait, that was the movies. But no, Wolverine
and the X -Men, I wish, just like Sketch wishes
Specsbitey got another season. I wish they both
got more episodes. What? Why didn't these shows
get 52 episodes each? I know. I wish Wolverine
and the X -Men got more episodes because I got
another season because it was just getting good.
Yeah. I ended on such a cliffhanger and it's
like, oh god damn it, we're never gonna get this
again, son of a bitch. Well yeah, and that was
the great, that's like, oh god, you suck, Marvel.
But see, when it comes to comic books, I'm a
sucker for alternate versions. of these characters
that I've been reading for years, like one of
my all -time favorite Marvel comics is What If,
you know, what if Spider -Man kept his extra
arms, what if the Punisher was Venom, you know,
stuff like that. And it's technically in continuity
was The Age of Apocalypse, which was this, in
the comic books, it was an alternate reality
story where in the normal 616 Marvel universe,
Professor X's schizophrenic mutant son, Yeah,
he actually has a kid Travels back in time. He's
gonna kill magnetic Just before or just around
the time that him and professor X break up and
go their separate ways And he he accidentally
kills his dad and without professor X there to
like rally the mutants and everything Apocalypse
rises the power takes over the world and you
know, you see you see that at the end of You
know, the finale. And I'm just like, oh, yes.
Because I remember seeing that episode. And I
was like, when's the next season going to start?
This is going to be awesome. And like three months
later, he finally, yeah, it's canceled. I was
like, a few, Marvel. A few. Oh, god. When you
said Professor X, yes, he did have a kid. The
only thing I flashed, too, was Moira McTaggart
mounting Lieutenant Dan. No. Yeah. Alright, so...
Oh, God. Oh, that bone is going to give me...
Really, really good show. Yes, yes. Yes, it was.
And what I liked about Wolverine and the X -Men
was that it blended a lot of Marvel stuff. Like,
you had the emo -ness of Rogue at times about
her not wanting Logan to leave, which is part
of the movie -verse. You had the whole thing
of him already knowing Hulk from Hulk Versus.
because he already had that. So they tied a lot
of things together, but it still stood on its
own as its own story, and I absolutely love that.
So on episode 31, JT and I tackled a teenage
Iron Man and Iron Man armored Avengers. I was
skeptical about this show going in, but I freaking
love it. I can't wait till the second season
hits Netflix. Sketch? Thoughts? I really have
no comment on this one, because I haven't really
watched more than a few scenes so far. You need
to go back and watch it. At least give it the
first four episodes, and if you don't like it
past then, that's fine. But it's actually pretty
good. Sketch and I had talked, I think we talked
about this off -air, it might be in the Avengers
episode, I'm not sure. teenage iron man no drinking
no that can't be right but no it actually does
do a lot of of good things with with the iron
man uh... mythology and it was a nice different
twist uh... so it's very very awesome the alternate
interpretations well it's like i said the episode
i mean the major The two major beats of Iron
Man's origin is there. There's an explosion and
Tony's heart is injured. Now in this one, instead
of ending up in some, you know, militia camp
and being forced to make the armor, it referenced,
like I said, the episode references the ultimate
Iron or the ultimate Avengers or the invincible
Iron Man directed DVD movie where he has created
the armor beforehand. And Dr. Jensen is simply
the heart surgeon who say he has like this implant
that, you know, it's basically a high tech electronic
pacemaker. Right. And yeah, I think the only
negative thing I said in the show, like I love
the show overall, I love the theme song, you
know, the only negative thing I came away with
this was I didn't like the slightness of the
character decides like everyone looks like they're
an emaciated supermodel. Yeah, I think we compared
this when when we did the comparison time stuff
in the episode we compared this most to MTV spider
-man as far as the style and design of it a little
bit because it has that slanted slighted angles
and It's not I don't think it is seat. I don't
know if it is CGI or not It's a mix of CGI and
kind of 2d cell shaded animation Right, yeah.
MTV's Spider -Man was cel -shaded, too. Yeah.
Yeah, because I like the animation in this series
more than the Green Lantern series, because like
I said, the Green Lantern series, it has this
very soft, very Willy Wonka -esque kind of feel.
Yeah. It looks like action figures. Well, yeah.
It looks like they're made out of soft candy,
really. But candy, hell, Jordan. I wish you hadn't
said candy starfire because the only thing I
can think of is now is that stupid tentacle porn
video of starfire That's what I meant that's
what I meant, but no I love the design I love
the animation style in this because it has more
see that's the thing with the green lantern It
doesn't really seem like it has that much of
a texture Whereas this series does like you just
look at like Iron Man's armor you can see the
plates and yeah You can see like the subtle curves
and everything You look at the Hawkeye when he
shows up in a couple episodes in the second season
when you get to that mic it looks super Realistic,
you know stuff like that. I saw a war machine.
I was like fuck. Yes Amazing it's like Iron Man
really Like bitch, please That's a pimp set of
armor right there. Yes, exactly. All right, so
moving on to episode 32 Where sketch and I talked
about Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I still
have yet to get past episode 9 So I'm still not
out of the shorts out of the confusion. I don't
know if I will go back and continue the series.
I'm still... I can explain that very easily,
Mike, if you would like. Well, I mean, Sketch
kind of explained it in the episode where it
was a series of mini -sodes or shorts that they
lumped together. Yeah. It's basically the first
ten... Sorry, I'm looking at the... Yeah, it's
the first ten episodes. First... first five First
if you take like the collapsed versions of the
mini so it's right and So Captain America, so
I think it boils down to I Was it five episodes
of the cartoon so technically would go five episodes
and then break out right, right, yeah, you know
you go like that and Actually, episode 10 has
the debut of one of my favorite Marvel villains
in the series, M .O .D .O .K. And what can I
say, I love the design of M .O .D .O .K. I mean,
it's like big gigantic head, little bitty arms
and legs. It's... Oh, Mega Six LR reference!
Exactly. Oh, if only he was voiced by... Oh,
that would have been... Who's Campbell? That
would be incredible. Groovy. But no, I mean,
I love that episode for Modoc alone. Also, the
look on Thor's face when he first sees Modoc,
it's like a Frost Giants baby's head. Like he's
just stunned. No, I mean, this series, again,
this is... It's not the love letter that Wolverine
and the X -Men is, but they do reference... other
elements of Marvel history. I mean, voice acting
alone is probably my favorite thing about this
series. Yeah, the art style is very much a timid
tater, which doesn't bother me that much. I love
the fact that, you know, when they introduced
Nick Fury, it is the classic 60s Nick Fury, but
he's black and he's the son of, you know, was
it Jake Fury, which is Nick Fury's brother in
the comics. right you know and then when he comes
back in the second season this isn't a spoiler
because it's been in all the articles he comes
back as the Sam Jackson Nick Fury from the Ultimate
Universe and then and there I loved I think one
of my favorite episodes of the first season was
the Sentry 459 which was the introduction of
Captain Marvel in the Kree right and just It
was just one of my favorite because it references
like one of the my all -time favorite cosmic
Marvel heroes, you know Captain Marvel He introduced
Carol Danvers who becomes Miss Marvel because
I love the ending guys. Why is the ceiling so
low? When she's like, yeah You know, I'd have
to say out of my two favorite characters Part
of the Avengers would have to be Hawkeye and
Hulk. Now Hawkeye, like I was a huge Robin Hood
fan as a kid. Right. I love anybody that, you
know, fights, you know, mutants and monsters
with just a bow and arrow because what else are
you going to do? But I love the way they set
up Hawkeye is like he's part of this elite shield
agent corps, you know, with the Black Widow and
then Mockingbird shows up. He's just like Hawkeye
in the comics. He's an art. He's the sarcastic
archer who's always taking shots whether or not
he has a bow in his hand. right I love the fact
that they got how they set up Hulk in that you
know the split personality thing which wasn't
introduced in the comics until like the late
80s you know it's like look here's the deal I
stay out full -time and I won't shit up and yeah
yeah but you can be a hero it's like cool but
the bet my favorite Hulk moment was in the second
part of gamma world the 13th episode and when
it I would If you skip a couple episodes, I wouldn't
really recommend it for that, because that's
the great thing about this series is they cross
back and forth to earlier episodes. There is
this interconnectivity in amongst all the stories.
I mean, I bear no ill will towards the series.
I don't hate the series, but it's just like I
was saying in the sketch in the episode, it was
just like, for me, I prefer seeing the Marvel
characters on their own. I just do. I mean, eventually,
I will go back to Earth's Mightiest Heroes and
catch up, but it's just not in the cards right
now. So the last two episodes, we're going to
kind of combine the discussion about them, since
they are the same franchise. And I will try and
restrain they are all right you'll restrain your
johnny stormy yes of thirty three uh... j t and
i talked about fantastic four worlds dumbest
heroes and it was a thirty four women back in
time for the final glory and time of the service
season in fantastic four ninety four uh... sketch
thoughts on world's dumbest heroes uh... fantastic
four world's greatest heroes I tried to get into
this show when it aired on Cartoon Network, but
I don't know, it was just kind of bland to me.
I didn't hate the character designs, but they
were kind of hard to get over. There's some episodes
that are really entertaining, like I like the
episode when Mr. Impossible shows up. That was
really great. Yeah, The Impossible Man. And there
were some pretty good team -up episodes that
I appreciated they had. And they were such a
tease where they obviously had Peter Parker as
a photographer, but Spider -Man never showed
up in that show. Makes me sad. Makes me sad.
Yeah, the show had its moments from what I'd
seen. I can't really judge it fairly because...
Like Iron Man, I didn't see very much of it.
I saw more of that than Iron Man, though. You
need to go back and watch Iron Man. Apparently
so. This show... It was okay. Yeah. What about
94 Sketch? What did you think of the 94 Fantastic
Four show? You know, I didn't mind the first
season so much of that. Here we go. instrumental,
the second season, the really cool rock song.
Yeah. I liked the episodes when they team up
with Daredevil. Yeah. Those kinds. It was a pretty
okay show. I'm not sure if I like it more than
the 90s Hulk. I probably do overall. I would
say I do, simply because in the 94 series and
as I said in the episode with JT, this is what
introduced me to the Fantastic Four. And I think
this is the - I suppose that's probably true
of me too. Well, this is the main reason why
I like the 90s Marvel cartoons because they got
me to - read comics the the x -men store i wanted
to go out and read dark phoenix and phoenix and
dark phoenix saga after i saw those episodes
spider -man i wanted to go out and read all those
spider -man cartoon or spider -man comics from
watching those cartoon episodes same thing here
with fantastic four uh... what i loved about
the series was i'd love the camaraderie and the
play back and forth with ben and johnny and and
that was my main fantastic for knowledge until
the films came out and the films they couldn't
have cast those first two films better with with
Michael Jake lists and and Chris Evans playing
Johnny Storm and Ben Grimes respectively it was
like the cartoon came to live action for me and
I just absolutely loved it well yeah I mean that
like I said in the DeLorean episode you know
that was the great thing like one of my all -time
favorite you know rivalries duos and comics was
you know the thing in the human torch as opposed
to the thing in the human douche and world's
greatest heroes yes because that Johnny Storm
was a douche then he elevated douche to an art
form yeah he was pretty amazingly obnoxious Like
I'm all bad at being a hero so bad Like this
dude couldn't have been more of a walking dick
if his head actually looked like a penis Is what
I'm trying to say. I mean It was kind of just
cold Well, it was cool, but I still liked you
know that one. I mean this mr. Fantastic actually
made her be kind of cool Oh, I liked Herbie in
that cartoon, though. I did like her. It's like,
oh, hello, Dr. Richards. Oh, oh. It's like, he
made Herbie into C -3PO and then made him, like,
the entire, you know, Baxter building, which
I liked. And like I said in the episode, my all
-time favorite episode from that series was,
you know, Doomsday Plus One, where Dr. Doom does
the classic trope of blasting the Baxter building
into outer space. I love it. Because... especially
that episode because they from that one scene
like I said in the episode they get everybody
else in the Baxter building into Reed's lab and
they're like is this it he's like well due to
the constant superhero attacks and you know they
got like the crazy old lady with her hair in
the curlers she's like I could see my house from
here and I was like uh you're technically in
your oh I love this lady you know that was what
was great about this like this was fun like it
was a great fantastic four cartoon and Like I
prefer you know aside from the douche I The douche
well the human douche, you know I Like this one
a flaming human douche now just the human douche.
I mean there's the human torch and You know anyway,
I'm trying to I'm really trying to get away from
the Johnny Storm age right now I I do somewhat
prefer this series over 94 If only in terms of
like the character design I think it's superior
because I mean the first season of the 94 which
was the kind of the comedy season Right, you
know and I looked it up that was Stan Lee's wife
that voiced their landlady in that first season
Where she won I own this building and she just
starts purse beating the thing and the things
just like backing off You know, but no, like
in terms of art design, I love, I prefer World's
Greatest Heroes over FF94, but FF94 is ultimately
my favorite series because there was a lot more
heart and there was more of a - There's a lot
more family in them. Yeah, you don't get that
too much in this one. You get that Reed, like
Sue, and Sue's in love with Reed, and Ben is
Reed's best friend. Ben's Reed in the 90s one,
aren't they? Yeah. They're actually married.
I love the fact Ben was probably in World's Great
Heroes was my favorite thing out of everything
in that series because you know what they really
got into the whole I'm a monster blah blah you
know everything like that the classic thing tropes
you know right yeah and then there's the douche
I'm sorry I just I keep coming back to it A fiery
douche. Wow, that sounds unpleasant. Full kind
of douche. He's very unpleasant, yes. So that's
gonna pretty much do it for superheroes. We saved
the other DeLorean times for last. You're gonna
hear some ads. And then we'll come back and we'll
continue this season one wrap -up with... Some

the final segment of the Season 1 Superheroes
wrap -up here on Tooncast Beyond, I am joined
by Steve Megatron. Hello. Good day, sir. And
Optimus Solo. Hello. What's happening? Not much.
Alright, so, this is the DeLorean Time segment.
This includes, I think, all of the...is it all?
No? It includes most of the DeLorean Times. It
includes the ones that these guys were actually
hosting on with me. uh... steve hosted mega man
a reboot and freakazoid kevin hosted wacky races
dastardly and mutley and laugh olympics kevin
did you ever have you ever seen the met the ninety
four mega man cartoon i've never seen any of
those cartoons uh... the first three okay alrighty
then i stopped watching cartoons in like eighty
nine ninety for a while Mega Man is just so so
awesome It essentially for me brought the video
games to life is Is essentially what that cartoon
did Captain and didn't do that for you No, no
that Mega Man was horrible. He was mega horrible
I'm killing him And then Steve and Tara were
on the the reboot episode which launched rebooting
mainframe soon as a full -fledged podcast Yes,
that's right. Um Reboot it gets better It's season
one starts out as a hit -by -hit kind of throw
away, you know, nothing really connects all that
much and Season two it starts to grab you more
and then obviously it digs into the net and everything
else So it gets a lot more integrated in a lot
more story driven instead of singular one shots
as the series goes Yeah, yeah And then freakazoid
is just a bunch of freaky fun It's it's it's
a superhero cartoon with comedy. Yes You would
I I think you would actually like it Kevin because
I know you like Animaniacs and and it's the same
brainchild and and tiny tunes So it's the same
type of comedy except he's a superhero and they
have a lot of crossovers I think I've seen maybe
some some clips of that and they were enjoyable.
I just I think it's one of those that I missed
out when it was originally airing and it's just
like any TV show, cartoon or whatever. If you
miss it that first time, sometimes you just never
catch on to it unless you make a point to go
seek it. Yeah, that's understandable. I actually,
probably by the time this episode airs, this
season finale airs, I will have bought both volumes
and iTunes so I can catch up to this show because
I've been watching YouTube clips of it and oh
my God, this show is so funny. And then Kevin
and I talked about the wacky the whacked out
wacky racers. Oh my god This this show was such
genius Well, I mean I think you can compare this
to the other one that we're about to talk to
I mean wacky races and Laugh Olympics The format
it's just so genius at the time. I know you know
It's not for like today's audience. It might
not be that unique and that original But for
that time it was just so cool to have a show
where you got to see all of the different stars
Which is something that couldn't happen today
because you don't have a company like Hanna -Barbera
Or I mean that you kind of have like the Looney
Tunes, but they're always together But I mean
you don't have a company that has that many main
stars that you could then take and throw it into
one show. Yeah. Oh, no, no. You don't have that
today. I mean, you could argue, I guess, superhero
squad, but it's all Marvel stuff and it's superheroes.
But I mean, like, the way that this show, the
way that Laugh Olympics and Wacky Races played
out was it was all these stars that got it. Essentially,
it's Mario and Sonic go to the Olympics, except
it's all the Hanna -Barbera stars, and they're
on three different teams. As we said in the episode,
the Yogi -Yahooies, the Scooby -Doobies, and
the Really Rotten's. And it was just awesome,
because it was one of those things where you
always wanted to see all of the Hanna -Barbera
cartoon characters team up. Well and and it was
another thing because at that time they're really
I mean that is what the cartoons were on tv like
it's not it's so different a time period where
now you get like a million different things that
you could be watching I mean you could be watching
your anime stuff you could be watching superhero
stuff you could be watching like old ad's reboots
or whatever but back then like I mean Hannah
Barbera and Looney Tunes were were basically
almost all there was you know throwing a little
scooby -doo and a couple other things there wasn't
that much of a Options. I mean you had your favorite
cartoons, but most likely they were hannah -barbera
And so this was a chance for you to see some
of your favorite characters and then introduce
you to some new characters and just a really
cool and funny format and It's just it was just
really well done and unique for that time Yes,
it was and it was awesome So that's gonna do
it for season one of tooncast beyond it. It's
been one hell of a ride We're just getting started
Ain't that the truth. We got seven more seasons
to go. Holy shit. Up next you're gonna hear the
usual ads and everything else and then I'll come
back to close the show with a season two preview.

up, right? You know how we talk about doing a
podcast? Well, I have some ideas running past
you. Yeah, what do you got? I thought we should
base it on comics. Well, there's thousands of
podcasts about comics. You kind of want to narrow
it down a bit. Well, what about Star Wars? Still,
there's a ton of those out there. What else you
got? We could always do G .I. Joe comics. There's
still a ton of those out there. What about the
80s franchises? There's already a few of those
as well. Then let's forget about comics. Let's
focus on toys and action figures. Dude, then
we're back to thousands of podcasts. Well, is
anyone covering all those things I mentioned
in one podcast? No one would be crazy enough
to do that. Then that's what we'll do. Are you
serious? Yep. Come and listen to Star Joe's podcast.
You can find us at starjoes .com or find us on
iTunes. We cover comics, TV shows, and movies
based on Star Wars, G .I. Joe. and all your 80's
favorite franchises. And don't forget about the
toys. How can we forget about the toys? We also
do tour reviews to help you decide what to add
to your collection. So come listen to Star Joe's
where we hold nothing back, provide quality entertainment,
and remember the force will be with you because
knowing us is half the battle. Yo Joe! Hey I'm

Joe. Think of it as Joe Talk meets Sports Talk,
and we make fun of Chuck. Right, and we... Hey,
again? Come on, Chuck. We're just kidding, kinda.
Sometimes Chuck makes fun of himself. Right,
and we... Okay, seriously, this is just getting
ridiculous now. It's What's on Joe Mind every

Do something! I'll give you another medal! Over
here, bubble head! You'll get no medal for catching
me on the bounce. I've carefully studied every
Justice League, your past and present, and created
contingency plans to neutralize you, should that
ever become necessary. You've got to be kidding
me! Neutralize, not kill. Whoever implemented
my plans altered them. It's still a completely
unacceptable breach of our trust. The members
of the Justice League are among the most powerful
and potentially dangerous people on the planet.
You think one of us would go over to the other
side? Or succumb to mind control. Yes, it's possible.
That's why I developed plans for containing any
or all members of the JLA, should the need ever
arise. None of us would ever do that to you.
Then you're damn fools. As always, I gotta thank
everybody that helped me make this first season
of Tooncast Beyond what it was. Ben and Neil
over at Animation Aficionados, regardless of
their opinions, are awesome guys to work with
for the most part. Absolutely loved doing the
DC Universe crossovers with them. That was able
to, you know, that gave us a lot of great episodes
here in Tooncast Beyond and also allowed them
the chance to cover those movies. uh... very
very awesome same thing with j t in sketch working
with those two guys on the marvel another some
other dc stuff in season one and of course is
always you know steven and kevin and all that
stuff with the delorean time stuff that they
worked on it was just amazing i think uh... i
think this was uh... a pretty good overall season
for tuned cast beyond uh... can't thank everyone
enough for contributing uh... very very awesome
so yes thank you to everyone and thank you for

I wish you'll join us next season when we will
be working on a dream spotlight with the DreamWorks
spotlight I know a lot of people are like oh
Themed seasons, that's not enough of a variety.
The point here in Tooncast Beyond is to cover
as many different cartoons and stuff that we
can. And with doing a, you know, the DreamWorks
spotlight that gets us to watch a lot of DreamWorks
movies, there will be plenty of DeLorean times
in Season 2. Stuff like Denver the last dinosaur
mysterious cities of gold or just two that I
can think of off top my head For DreamWorks movies.
We'll be covering the French the the French what
the fuck is a French the Shrek franchise flushed
away shark tail I'm just thinking of these off
the top of my head. Again, thank you to everyone,
both the people that worked with me on season
one and the listeners of Tooncast Beyond and
GeekCaster Network for making season one what
it was. Very, very awesome. I also gotta thank
Chuck Dogg for his superhero squad episode that
he did in the very beginning. But that's gonna
do it for us on Tooncast Beyond. It will return
August 1st, 2012. For now, I am TF2 and Mike.
Thank you for listening, until August.
