A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie Review

About this Episode
Beyond good, beyond evil, beyond your wildest
imagination. in an outrageous, full -length,
animated feature. Walt spends some real quality
time together. I think I'm gonna be sick. Walt
Disney Pictures presents... Come on, this is
gonna be fun! ...the story of a father who couldn't
be closer... That's the spirit! That's it! This
is embarrassing! ...to driving his son crazy.
This is pathetic. Now, they're getting a crash
course in Becoming Best Friends. It's big fun!
Could you back up a bit, Mr. Foot? You're out
of focus. This spring, one of Disney's favorite
classic characters lands at theaters in the most
hilarious and hippest animated musical comedy
ever. A little smug kid. A goofy movie. Hello
and welcome to the 62nd episode of Tooncast Beyond
brought to you by the GeekCast for your network.
I am your host TFGO and Mike and joining me today
is Dog Able from Talking About My Generation.
Hello sir. Hello. And I did not lie to you folks.
We are going to get to what I said was going
to be at the Episode 61 I said that TMNT 2003
season 1 was going to be the next episode but
We're going to be doing that in January because
we needed to get this episode out before the
end of this year because This year marks the
20th anniversary of a goofy movie Christ I cannot
believe it's been 20 years since I've seen this
movie It's yeah, I don't like seriously folks
the last time I remember watching this was like
1997 1998 so Yeah, I actually went and saw this
movie in the theaters at they now defunct Santee
Village 8 it's been torn down leveled and they
put a they put a And I remember going to see
it I'm going to tell everybody this as a warning
if there are any kids under the age You know
like 18 ish if you're a senior in high school
Do not date a freshman and here is why Try and
see movies shit like a doofy movie is the only
choices that you have because she's not 17. Oh
dang. Yes Didn't you know this in high school
you're only supposed to date one class below
what you are I was an idiot I'm sorry or or or
in the same class that you are I was an idiot,
you know There's only at this point in my life.
There's only one other woman I will ever sit
through Titanic with and that's my current girlfriend
Jennifer in high school I took a girl I was interested
in It was one of those weird high school, and
I know we're completely off of a goofy movie
at this point, but it is one of those weird high
school relation quote -unquote relationships.
This is obviously before Facebook, before relationship
statuses and blabbity -blah -blah -blah. Oh my
god, I couldn't even imagine going through high
school today. Anyway, that's the whole other
story. Okay, so she wanted to see Titanic, and
I'm like, okay, cool. And yeah, at this point
in my life at 35, nearly 36 years old, there's
only one other woman I would ever sit through
three hours in a theater with for that, oh my
God, that movie's so long. Anyway, so a goofy
movie. Bill Farmer, Jason Marsden, Jim Cummings.
We're gonna get to all that stuff here in a bit,
but I remember bits and pieces of Goof Troop.
I remember that Goof Troop was part of Disney
afternoon it was taking the classic character
and putting him in a situation that kind of thing
and all this stuff and and everything else and
then a Goofy movie was essentially what to Disney
at the time as to what Mask of the Phantasm was
to Batman at the time Mean this was there. Oh
my god. We're putting goofy on the big screen
for the first time in a lot You know his solo
solo movie forget don't get me Yeah, we all know
we all know because we've all seen Roger Rabbit.
You know everybody loves goofy Nobody loves the
news we all know that there were goofy cartoons
that aired not aired But there were goofy cartoons
that were shown in the theaters in the olden
days and everything else, but this was Goofy's
feature film debut. Yeah, and it was awesome
So setting the stage here for a goofy movie the
It was directed by Kevin Lima The story and screenplay
and all that stuff was done by Jim Magoon Chris
Matheson and Brian pin and tall as I already
said starring Bill Farmer Jason Mars than the
various other people The music was done by Carter
Burwell and Don Davis I assume that is the instrumental
stuff not the actual singing stuff the It doesn't
give the budget for the movie, but The box office
according to this is thirty five point three
million so I have no idea what it cost them to
make the movie, but Had to have been fairly successful.
Well, they got a sequel out of it So it can't
have been too bad and not a lot of people like
the sequel though not a lot there I was one of
the few I guess Yeah, so am I but I'm just saying
yeah So the film itself for a goofy movie acts
as a sequel to the TV series goof troop film
revolves around father and son relationship between
Goofy and Max as Goofy believes that he is losing
Max and the film was dedicated to Pat Butterm
who died during production and of course the
direct -to -video sequel which we'll talk about
later extremely Goofy movie I Goofy is one of
those dads who is the biggest worry wart in in
in history Yep, just just sitting there looking
at everything going. Oh gosh You know, I I'm
sorry. I cannot do it anywhere near as good as
Bill Farmer, but The funny thing is I I wanted
to have it done before this but I just couldn't
because we're recording this during the holiday
season of 2015 It'll actually be out. Well, like
I said before actually we'll probably release
it December 23rd. I had tweeted both to Bill
Farmer at Goofy Bill and Jason Marsden at Jason
Marsden on Twitter. I said, I would love to get
you both on an interview for Gecast Radio blah
blah blah blah blah to celebrate 20 years. Bill
Farmer replied with information to get in contact
with his agent and it'll all be set up so So
in 2016 at some point in the early months of
2016 you're gonna hear goofy bill Bill Farmer
You know on Tooncast beyond at some point With
a goofy movie. I just watched this right before
we recorded it I have not seen it and like like
I said, it was last time I saw this film was
97 98 somewhere around so I have not seen it
in almost 16 17 years something like that and
The damn film made me cry I Don't know what it
I don't know what it is about a goofy movie that
just throughout The film and the way the plot
is and the way it's it's Presented to us the
whole father -son relationship thing the whole
thing Probably midway to the end probably the
point where max changes the map to the end of
the movie Just I just couldn't stop tearing up
at different points in the thing Well, we finally
got a chance to see goofy being something other
than goofy himself. Yeah Like the pissed -off
parent I was going whoa Where did that come from?
Yeah. Yeah, that was a little crazy there. And
so a goofy movie. What happens is Max is trying
to impress this girl Roxanne. And he, his favorite
musical rock star, whatever, is Powerline. Now
see originally and because I haven't seen this
in so long. I didn't forget about power line
I Forgot that power line was just one like I
thought it was a whole group I didn't realize
it was just one guy. I mean sure he's got other
musicians there he's got the the fat lady singing
and all that stuff and whatever else but I Could
have sworn it was a whole group. Not just one
guy so Max puts on this whole thing with his
friends PJ and and and and Bobby and and We'll
talk about PJ and Bobby a bit later considering
I Can't ever since I watched this film folks
a few days ago before recording this I can't
stop saying it's a lazy leaning tower of cheese
I think that was the best quote from that film.
Some smokage. I mean, he had a lot of good lines.
We'll talk about that a bit. So the film sets
up, Max wants to impress this girl, Roxanne,
and he does this by basically embodying the power
line character. And they have him swinging all
over the auditorium place there. They basically...
uh send the principal below the stage through
the trap door kind of thing and it ends in um
in the principal catching them all and they're
all in trouble and uh uh turns out that roxanne
liked uh uh goofy or liked max you know ever
since his first hyuck and i'm only going to call
it a hyuck because i can't do it at all like
i'm so not yeah Mean I used to be able to do
Donald I used to I don't even know if I can do
it anymore No, I can't it's my nose is just no
it's not gonna work I used to be you know as
a teenager 15 16 17 right around I used to be
able to do a somewhat decent Donald, but I know
I I can't do goofy justice and so The principal
calls goofy at work and goofy works for this
department store where also Pete works and they
try to get kids to smile for Photos that he works
in the folder department or part of his job is
he works in the photo department The principal
calls him and says oh mr. Goof your son Oh no,
is he hurt? No, Mr. Goof, he's in trouble. And
he goes through this, and the principal is voiced
by Wallace friggin' Sean. Yeah, my wife looked
at that and she goes, why is Rex voicing the
principal? He is such a good villain. He actually
voices the... Don't know if you've I assume you've
seen this episode the the mirror episode of 7d
No, not yet. They know this is from season one.
This is from this has already been out there
was a Magic mirror episode where Queen delightful
was gonna steal the Whoopi Goldberg voiced magic
mirror from Queen delightful Where? Ildy was
gonna steal it from Queen delightful and they
go to basically replace it to pull a switch.
Well, the mirror that they get from the mirror
that Grimm, voiced by Jess Arnell, gets from
the mirror store is a defunct mirror, and it's
a green -faced mirror, and it's voiced by Walsh.
Oh, God. It's hilarious. It's awesome. uh...
but anyway so we got wallace on as the principal
and he basically tells tells goofy that max is
gonna you know he incited a riot he's he's gone
all gangsta and this that the other thing and
everything else and he's gonna end up in the
electric chair and this basically just since
goofy over the edge he doesn't want his son to
be in the electric chair he wants you know so
he schedules this vacation that's going to take
place during the time let's see the one and i'm
really not i really have no nitpicks about this
plot folks but i do have to nitpick this do they
actively say that it's going to be summer vacation
at all i assume this is just a day like Just
assume like this is a like a Friday or something
Well, they they did hint at the very beginning
that this is like the last day of school because
there's they're saying that like everybody's
gonna be leaving They're not gonna have to do
math again until September and all that so I
was kind of like, okay It's last day of school
Okay, so When max gets home goofy's packing the
car up He's gonna take his son fishing and camping
and all that stuff and he's like, oh we're gonna
drive to White Plains Idaho or White Plains,
Iowa or whatever the hell I don't even know what
the hell he says Lake Destiny, Idaho. That's
what it is. Thank you And he's like but dad that's
gonna take three months or three weeks or whatever.
He's like, that's okay, you know but max has
this thing where uh he's gonna he wants to go
to stacy's party because stacy is going to broadcast
the pay -per -view uh power line concert so they
end up on this road trip and max is obviously
not too thrilled about this and goofy's trying
his best and as the trip goes on and on and on
max gets more angry and more angry and more angry
and then he gets the the the notion of changing
the map Now during this road trip they end up
running into Pete and PJ Several times well the
first time they run into them. It's PJ Pete is
unloading is his RV and this is the Like seriously
cousin Eddie you should really be jealous of
this cuz holy crap. Yeah this RV has every like
I know Pete's supposed to be a villain, but Jesus
Christ, how did he get enough money to, oh my
God, that RV looks so expensive. Well, and they
work in a department store taking pictures of
kids. How the fuck do you make that much money?
I'm sorry. Well, Pete's a swindler, so I mean,
he'll, you know, swindle you out of anything.
So they run into Pete and PJ several different
times the first time was with the RV the next
times at a hotel or motel and We get to a point
in the movie where Max decides to change the
map because he wants his dad to head to LA instead
of Lake Destiny, Idaho and Goofy gets to a point
where he's gonna trust Max and whatever else
and the relationship kind of breaks down and
then gets repaired fairly quickly when Max comes
clean about impressing Roxanne and whatever else
and Goofy's on board and they get him to the
concert and actually Goofy is the first one on
stage after Powerline and he gets electrocuted
by the electro ball there. And then Max is like
dad do the perfect cast and the perfect cast
is this whole thing they have with the fishing
thing and they turn it into a dance move and
Roxanne sees Max on TV because that's the lie
he told her now see for some odd reason when
they were in the woods and and Max was gonna
write to Roxanne on this postcard thing I Don't
know why but I had Some weird Forrest Gump feather
notion in my head that the part Went when he
rips it up the part that says I lied to get caught
on the tree I thought that was gonna float all
the way back to wherever the hell Roxanne was
That could have been possible, but it would have
been really easy It would have been really questionable
is what it would have been, but yeah I absolutely
just love the way this movie but the whole plot
the way, you know I'm gonna say there were a
couple of things with it that Yeah, I kind of
when I even when I saw it originally in what
was a 96 when it came out and when I saw it in
the theater The only thing that kind of bugged
me was that there were so many musical numbers
and it was just kind of like really You know,
I remember I remember when they all start singing
and you start seeing them driving down the road
as they're getting on the road again, you know
to go off on the thing and you start seeing the
undertaker, you know, the undertaker pull up
in their car and Dead body flips out and starts
singing along. I was kind of like, okay, you
know what even for a Disney film? That's a little
hokey. That's a little creepy You know, but other
than that everything about the movie I did like
so I mean, you know Just tone it down. Just a
little bit on the music. That's it See I like
some of the goofy and Mac songs. Yeah, I will
agree with that. But the whole power line thing
I love yes No, the power line thing had to be
in there. That was good. Yeah, that was awesome
All right, so running down the who's who of the
show of the film you have Bill Farmer as goofy.
I Mean, what else is there to say? It's Bill
frigging Farmer. I mean The man the myth the
legend this guy has done almost Everything you
can think of I mean, you know, and he would hear
him talk in his normal voice other than as goofy
it's Is the weirdest thing because you just you
look at him you hear him saying stuff and you
go There is no way that guy does goofy's voice
and then all of a sudden he does that. Oh, yeah,
and you know, whoa Bill has got it nailed down
Mm -hmm He was not the first goofy though. No,
he's he's the goofy everybody knows remembers
and loves but he was not the first goofy The
funny thing is his He's had several live action,
apparently. He's had two that are listed here.
I'm sure they're more on IMDB, but I prefer Wikipedia.
He was in Robocop as Justin Ballard Watkins.
Oh, geez. He was a voice in Rover Dangerfield.
He was Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester and Yosemite
Sam in Space Jam. Let's see. He was Stinky in
Casper's Spirited Beginning and also Casper meets
Wendy. He is become since about 1990 He's become
Pluto Yeah for the most part and that's pretty
much from 2007 to well, I mean he's done goofy
and Pluto obviously done he's done goofy a long
ass time, but he's done Pluto since about 1990
and from 2007 to now He's it's pretty much he's
pretty much been Pluto for the most part He is
doc and sir yips a lot in the 7d He was in an
episode of till death in 2010. He played George
Bush in the minister. Okay. Oh, yeah Already
then I mean, I love Bill Farmer. I think he's
an awesome guy. He's just one of those people
that... He's one of those voice actors that he
can do so much with his voice, but the one...
You know, most people in Hollywood are always
scared of being typecast. Being typecast is a
classic Disney character. I mean the man is so
proud of that, you know, how could you not be?
I mean, you know, you got him you you had because
I believe Wayne Alwine has passed Alwine has
passed away since then but you had Wayne Alwine
as as Mickey you had Russie Taylor as Minnie
you had Whoever plays Donald I can't remember
off top I've been I mean like all these classic
characters that we've grown up with and over
the years and just so well done Jason Marsden
was max the singing voice was done by Aaron lore
Marsden he's We'll be here all day going through
his stuff. Yeah some amazing stuff. He is the
world's cutest kitten normal Yes, he is He was
himself on boy meets world for a year or so I'm
just waiting for them to bring him back in in
girl meets world if they ever do I don't think
they will but He was the teenage voice of Clark
Kent in Superman the animated series in the very
first three -parter He was Richie Foley slash
gear in static shock. He was in House of Mouse
as as max goof And of course a lot of people
probably remember him from step -by -step Really?
Yeah, he was on step -by -step. He was oh God
he was the the one older brother's Best friend.
Oh Yeah That's where my that's where my wife
knew him from cuz she's we saw him at wonder
con a couple years ago And he was doing voiceovers
and she goes. Oh, hey, I think I recognize him.
I She just walked over and said JT JT from from
From step by step, but yeah, she goes. I think
I recognize him. She goes. Oh, hey He's that
guy from step by step and I'm like, okay He was
the voice of Duke and GI Joe renegades, which
is very short -lived series Let's see recently
He is that in hulking the agents of smash He
was young Bruce Wayne and bore the Batman last
year Oh, wow, he's So he's played teenage Clark
Kent and young Bruce Wayne, so he's played both
young roles for Batman and Superman. That's awesome
And he's like what he's like in his in his late
20s early 30s now. Oh, no, he's not in his late
20s He's how old is Jason? I know now I gotta
look. Oh shit. He's older than I am The boy is
40, I'm sorry Rob Paulson will be here all day,
but he is PJ Pete What I love about Rob is whenever
he is at one of these conventions or whatever
it doesn't matter what convention he's at if
it's a specific panel and when he just immediately
goes into the voice of whatever care like I watched
the 20th anniversary a goofy movie panel recently
and you know when he gets announced or introduced
he says hello in his normal voice then he just
goes right into pj and it's like it's just so
awesome oh yeah i you know i i gotta brag just
a little bit i met rob Pulsing that comic last
year and have a wonderful picture. We had a nice
little conversation about all the voices that
he's done I introduced my wife to him and he
was very very pleasant the man. I can't say enough
about him I mean, he's just he is a pleasant
person and willing to talk to his fans He loves
the fact that people recognize him for the voices
that he's done that he's admired for being Yakko
Warner You know that he's done God I I can't
even think of half the stuff pinky Dr. Scratch
and sniff, you know PJ obviously just all sorts
of stuff and nice nice man nice man Absolutely,
I did not know this okay the The voice of Roxanne
is Kelly Martin Okay, I thought I recognized
the voice but I'm like who is that? Well, the
funny thing is is that the first time I ever
saw her like actual live -action stuff Was a
this is gonna be so sad was a hallmark Christmas
movie featuring Cameron Matheson aka Ryan Lavery
from all my children It was called the Christmas
ornament that came out about two years ago was
the first time I had ever seen her and I So did
not put the connection together that she was
like her voice was was it was Roxanne's Polly
Shore Whatever the hell happened to that guy.
He was Bobby in this one Polly sure he hasn't
The last two films according to this he was in
was Bucky Larson born to be a star and Whiskey
business in 20s 2011 and 2012 I you know I said
on Twitter When I When I was watching the movie,
I'm like what the hell ever happened to Polly
sure somebody replied to me A question no one
has really bothered to ask until you just did
now Well in 2003 he died Yeah, supposedly. Holly
sure is dead. He came out with this film and
I want to say it was more like a documentary
and he basically faked his own death and got
caught doing it mm -hmm and it was I saw bits
and pieces of it and it's actually kind of funny
because Everybody knew him with that huge fro
of hair that he had Then he like hacked it all
off to look basically like the shaved head sort
of looked like he has like his character has
in extremely goofy movie And so people were like
no that can't be him. Oh, he must be dead You
know and he faked his own death, and then he
comes out he starts asking people like out on
the street Hey, what have you heard about Polly
sure I heard he's dead. He goes no. I'm not The
only movie of his that I can actually watch and
enjoy live -action is son -in -law I love son
-in -law. Yeah Probably for me would have been
would have been in not in the army now, but in
Sino, man That's only because Polly really doesn't
make that big an appearance in there. It's more
Sean Astin and Brandon What's his name? Yeah
So we got Jenna van von oi as Stacey she's been
in a number of stuff She was on blossom. Oh,
oh my god. That's six. Holy crap. Yeah, she was
blossom was best friend I know it took me a second
when I saw it. I'm like, yeah Yeah, it took me
a minute there She was in pepper and she was
in an episode of cold case Last thing she was
in was something called Luke warm from 2012 She
did dr. Do little three in 2006. I don't know
why We did the money hmm You've got Julie Brown
you got Tevin Campbell who was power line you
got I Like forgot Mickey was in this and then
I realized oh wait the phone Well, no, there
was I thought there was a hitchhiking scene with
him and Donald. Yeah, there was But I also remember
the Mickey Mouse phone. Oh, yeah max had Pat
Butterm was possum park and the the possum park
MC, you know the one thing I remember him from
like I know he's done all this stuff and sadly
he's no longer with us, but the one thing and
One thing the only thing I really remember him
from is Being a couple of the bullets from who
framed Roger Rabbit Well, you know that he was
in back to the future three as well He had a
small cameo appearance in there where where he's
he's telling that he's telling Marty that Yeah,
it'll be a yellow belly coward. Yeah I just This
is just such a great film, folks. It really,
really is. I love all the stuff with the father
and son bit and how they show their relationship
to be somewhat okay in the beginning. It kind
of, as I already said, kind of avoids and goes
to funk in the middle, and then by the end, everything's
better again and whatever else. I just really
enjoyed that about this movie. Yeah, I mean,
I kind of liked it in the fact that it was a
more... It was a more grown -up like you saw
goofy getting into situations But it was more
realistic in the fact that it wasn't quite so
outrageous like you need to see him getting slung
You know 300 feet up into the air and and falling
or something like that and walking away from
it completely unscathed Yeah, I mean there's
the sequels for yeah, you know Mm -hmm, but it
was it was a little bit more realistic And I
kind of like that the fact that max is growing
up, and you know he's going through puberty basically
It's the best way to put it. You know yeah. Hey.
I've got a girl who likes me Oh my gosh. How
am I gonna pull this off type of thing? You know
the funny thing is is like and I don't this just
got to be me reading into shit, so As I'm watching
this movie, I'm like, oh my god There's almost
the same kind of stuff I would have done to impress
Jen because there's several things that I had
that I've done In the early part of our friendship
to really impress and win her over one of them
was Asking a certain voice actor to do a couple
of lines for me to give to her I would know I
normally never do that. I will normally never
go to anybody but this was something really really
special it was right before birthday so uh...
and luckily that person and i'm not going to
say who it is luckily that person said yeah sure
uh... you can tell me off air yeah yeah yeah
because i know i know even bringing it up it's
gonna whoever listens to this is gonna land base
me for that but uh... So a goofy movie, absolutely
awesome. I loved watching it again. I still got
the same enjoyment now that I did 15 years ago
when I saw it, you know, as a teenager. We're
going to take a quick break and we're going to
get extremely goofy after this. This has been
one crazy vacation. And it's all over again.
We made it! Come on, Max, let's get you on stage.
Maybe this isn't such a good idea. He's a son
going off to college. Going already? See ya!
Goodbye, my little college man. And going for
the extreme adventure. Let's do it! Until...
Maxie! I'm just a yearnin' for some learnin'!
Now, only on video. One goofy dad is about to
learn how to groove. a movie that proves no matter
how old you are you never stop learning that
family comes first even if your dad is goofy
dad you're scaring people an extremely goofy
movie now on video so it is time to get extreme
Extremely goofy movie also known as a goofy movie
too. It came out in 2000 This one Max is nearly
18 years old. He's going off to college with
PJ and Bobby He and his friends want to be this
the top skate, you know roller X X games team
at the college X games and They when they get
to college they are met by the gamma mu mu fraternity
and i'm like oh god yeah seriously i i i think
pj says it best who wants to be a cow or something
like that it's like oh god so this film centers
around max going off to college goofy as a father
having separation anxiety kind of thing going
on and Just being all depressed that his son's
gone off to college. I'm not gonna be together
anymore and During this time goofy ends up getting
fired from his now second job Roxanne is nowhere
in the picture so we assume that that they've
broken up or Yeah just vanished that's all yeah
that was kind of like my one complaint about
this one was whatever happened to max in rock
city and this is supposed to be the love of his
life and blah blah blah and she's not even here
um uh so goofy doesn't take max's leaving very
well he ends up getting fired and it come turn
to find out he still has to finish his senior
year of college to obtain a degree before he's
allowed to get a better employment job before
he's allowed to get a better job essentially
so he joins his son on campus in Max's chagrin
and he gets several different pieces of advice
from Pete he ends up meeting the librarian they
end up falling in love Meanwhile Max and PJ and
Bobby are all wanting to take down the gammas
and the gammas basically use goofy to get back
at Max I like this one. It's more of The first
film was Father -son getting to know each other
getting to have their relationship be better
and this one has that still but this is more
of on this side of The volleyball court you have
goofy and his interests and everything he likes
and on the other side of the net You got max
and what he wants to do and whatever else. I
really dig that about this one. I Yeah, I mean
as I said before I I thought that this one was
probably the better of the two I know people
probably But the story I thought was was well
put together you had you know all the dynamics
of Bobby and PJ and everything going together
to The one thing that I thought was kind of just
hokey was Their big goal in life was to beat
the Gammas and be the X Games champs and it's
like Really? You guys don't have anything else
that you want to do with your lives from college
And that was kind of the thing with goofy was
you got a focus, you know Just like game of horseshoes.
You got a focus out there and don't lose your
focus and I was kind of like okay, so what are
they gonna focus on after this and it you know,
they never really said that was kind of just
something to bug me about it, but Other than
that, I thought it was a great story. I thought
it was you know, everything going through some
of it was hokey obviously though some of the
race with the X Games, but I Liked it for what
it was Every time I watch this movie and I see
the race with the SX games all as I can think
of is the McGee and me short thing skate expectations
because it's essentially the same damn thing
with one team cheating versus the other team
Not that I have a problem with with a goofy movie
I think it's I think it's interesting and you
got Brad Garrett as tank. That's awesome Yeah,
you went from being grease pit to tank Well,
he ended up being Lobo couple well actually he
was little four years before this but yeah I
mean I Just really dig this movie because it
shows Both sides of father and son. Yeah, not
necessarily that they have to you know always
be together like goofy wants them to be but that
they each have their own interests and they each
have their own lives and you know One thing and
you know, we mentioned this last week with Toy
Story We don't want to know what the hell happened
Andy's dad because it's too damn depressing.
Yeah, but it's one of those things where with
goofy What? Do they ever in because I don't remember
goof troop all that much. Do they ever say whatever
happening Max's mom, you know, I don't know.
I never found that out I always kind of wondered
because obviously goofy is a single parent Mm
-hmm, and you know, he's hooking up with Miss
Marple, which I laughed at the Agatha Christie
reference there with that But you know, he's
hooking up with Miss Marple in the librarian
and I was kind of like Okay, whatever Yeah I
You know, I mean I like I like max I don't think
we needed to know too much about where his mom
is Because the center of this story an extremely
goofy movie is more so you know goofy actually
getting a life and you know getting a girlfriend
and the setting of the everything else as far
as that side goes because Max just wants to go
to college or party which you know like you said
before it's not exactly goofy needed to hit home
with him those those values, those, those, you
know, oh my God, you know, college isn't just
a party. You need to sit down, you need to do
your homework, you need to learn. Yeah. You know,
it's just, you know. And, you know, goofy is
the same thing. When he goes through his downward
spiral at college because of the gammas and all
that stuff, he lets his grades slip. And then,
you know, because he has a good woman coming
into his life and she helps him out. Oh my God,
those scenes with him and her, it's just, she's
sitting on his back at one point, you know, like
cross -legged Indian style. I'm like, oh my God,
it's so hilarious. I absolutely love that. It
was rocky all over again. Yeah. Oh god. You just
imagine hearing eye of the tiger with goofy.
Oh my god, this is so hilarious. Well, and that's
something I did like a lot about this one was
the music for this choices that they had for
the music, you know, when there's when they're
playing, they're dancing at the club and they're
dancing the 70s music and it was just like, OK.
They they did such a good job of putting this
together that it wasn't like it was all the musical
like the first one was it Felt like it was pieced
together properly for music for me well see the
the thing with the two movies is the the first
a goofy movie is centered to be a musical because
it's centered around going to the powerline concert
center around max's enjoyment and fandom of that
of that musical character, so Of course they're
going to center musical numbers around the road
trip and all that. This is extremely goofy movie
is them placing the two characters, Max and Goofy,
in one or the other setting. So at first they're
at home, Max is getting ready to go to college,
blah, blah, blah, and then they're at college,
and then that's one stationary setting. They're
not on a road trip anymore. So the music for
this, it makes sense. It's enjoyable and all
that. I I don't care what anyone says eye to
eye and What's the other oh god? I should know
this what the hell is the other song? Damn it.
I just shared it on Facebook earlier. Oh god
Yeah, it's that first song the one that max uses
Damn it. I know Not not shake your groove thing.
That's from extremely goofy movie It's a standout
and I'd I try that's what it is. You know those
two songs were really awesome the This like I
wasn't like I was paying more attention to the
story of Extremely Goofy Movie and what's going
on with the characters and the actual music Like
the music to me in Extremely Goofy Movie was
all background like there what it's it's not
a standard Disney musical to me It really isn't
right. It's not like a goofy movie was like I
said, like I've already said because it's it
You just can't Road trips are a perfect way to
center a musical around stationary pieces like
this and the way that this was set up I just
don't think it would have worked yeah, I Don't
even know what the budget or the box office was
for this because I don't have that information
in front of me But I do know that even though
some people don't like it. It did do fairly well
Won the award for best animated home video production
You know, so there is that Well and he got it's
on Rotten Tomatoes, it's got a 57 % versus 53
for a goofy movie so Yeah, you know people did
like this a little bit better Mm -hmm And again,
I think it's more so now going back and looking
at it. It's more so the thing of My god, you
know a goofy movie is is your you know kind of
Like I already said, it's that simple father
and son kind of story You know, I love both these
movies I really do And let like you though. I
like extremely just a I like them both for individual
reasons, but yeah I'm gonna go back and watch
one again. It's probably gonna be the sequel
You know a goofy movie. I can watch it. It's
fine. I haven't what like I said before this
I hadn't watched it in 16 17 years it might be
another 10 years before I go back and look at
it again Don't know. Yeah, I mean I'm not saying
I don't enjoy it. I do enjoy it I think it's
a really really good movie for the time that
it was and it's a really good representation
of goofy not just the the the bungler that he's
usually portrayed to be yeah, I For me when it
comes to goofy on his own like I I think it's
great with him and Max But when it comes to goofy
on his own, I like those instructional shorts.
Oh god. Yes Those instructional shorts with the
narrow who do does that narration? Oh my god,
that was such I love that narrator voice that
does used to use they had so many of them with
him playing hockey him playing or him learning
Yeah, it's the guy that yeah, I mean it's like
If you look at the most recent short where they
had him about the TV, it's that guy. So I'll
have to go back and look at that one because
it's the same guy that was doing all the other
ones. And I like the way that they essentially
break the fourth wall and have the characters
talk to the narrator and stuff. They did that
on House of Mouse a few times. These two films,
they're just absolutely priceless. Yeah, they're
they're they're classics for what they are. They're
not there I won't say that they're you know up
there in the Disney classics that need to come
out of the vault every couple years type of thing
like, you know Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella
or something like that, but they're still up
there They're they're still good and enjoyable
for what they are and they're they're good Disney
films. I have no problem letting kids watch it
see I When you have something that comes out
of one of their animated series because as I
said a goofy movie was essentially a sequel to
goof troop Like I hold that on a completely different
level than I hold the standard Disney Film really
like don't get me wrong a little mermaid little
mermaid to a little mermaid the animated series.
That's that's fine All well and good and we're
just gonna ignore Ariel's beginning because we
need a prequel You know, but like I see Beauty
and the Beast and 101 Dalmatians and all that
stuff I see those on their own 101 Dalmatians
did not need to live -action films. Thank you
very much Even though Glenn Close was the best
person for live -action Cruella Yeah, but it's
one of those things where I see them on two different
levels. I see the The full -on big -budget animated
films, you know, you know like the ones we've
already mentioned lion king Aladdin I see those
on one one tier and then I see stuff like this
a goofy movie extremely like on a separate playing
field. Yeah Yeah, and that's that's all I'm trying
to get out is that they're yeah, they're good
in their own, right? They're not quite the The
level of that they're not quite that tier of
the classics the Disney classic everybody knows
but they're still good for what they are Yeah
On a scale of zero to five stars, what would
you give a goofy movie a goofy movie? I'm gonna
say four and a half only because of that it seemed
too much musical and that was You know, that
was my big beef with it and I remember thinking
in the theater when I saw it in theater just
kind of going really and that was it, you know
and I liked it. It was really good. It was cute,
you know good date movie For me, I'm also going
to give it a four and a half. I really, really
enjoyed watching the movie again after all this
time. But some of the songs with Max and Goofy,
don't get me wrong, I love Max and Goofy, but
they're not singers. They're just not. What about
Extremely? What are you going to give that one?
I'm probably going to give it four and a half
as well just because It didn't make a they didn't
put it in the theater. So that's I know it's
a beef, but I liked it I really did like it better
than a goofy movie it just I it would have been
good had they done a You know an actual theatrical
release for this rather than a direct -to -video
I see I think at the time with This extremely
came out in 2000 most of unless you unless you
were a big budget Lilo and Stitch you know that
kind of thing unless you were a big budget disney
film i think they were going to the home video
more because they would get you know you always
talk about you know how certain movies take um
clerks for example did alright in the theaters
it was successful but it's now a cult classic
on video and on demand and all you know so that's
really where i think that disney was going with
with extremely and that's why they because Putting
it in theaters it it's a big risk Yeah, it's
it's not just Disney it any film putting it in
there. Just look at general arms Any any film
putting it in theaters, especially animated films
is Unless it's something like an inside out or
a toy story or a bugs life or a wall -e You know
unless it's something a lot of Shrek Putting
it especially goofy you know, putting it in theaters
was probably a big risk, and I think that's why
they went the home video route. For me, I'm going
to give Extremely a four and a half as well.
I enjoyed it a lot more. I thought the whole
X Games thing, Pro Skater kind of stuff was really
cool. There are a lot of great lines in it. I
love the fact that they actually gave Goofy some
character development and pushing forward i thought
that was really cool i assume both of these are
on dvd i don't know if they're both on blu ray
i would assume the first one is but i do know
they're both on digital we're going to take a
quick break uh... come back with final words
and all that good stuff and close the show after
this max look it's the leaning tower of cheesa

close out the show final thoughts where final
thoughts on the goofy films overall i like them
they were pleasantly enjoyable they weren't you
know like i said they weren't the best films
i've ever seen but they certainly weren't and
having the disney name attached to it you can't
you you almost can't go wrong with it you know
it's gonna be something decent for me I absolutely
love going back and looking at these things like
I had zero other than the fact that it's max
and goofy and I know some of these characters
like Pete and peach like I know the characters
from the series and all that stuff but I had
zero nostalgia going into this I looked at this
with fresh eyes and I you know I looked at this
with oh my god a goofy movie that's something
my father and I would have done actually I remember
we actually drove from Massachusetts to Canada
three years before this movie came out in 1992
Um, so we had kind of a father son road trip
and that kind of thing. So that kind of hit home
for me. Um, with an extremely goofy movie, it's
just fun. It's just, it's just a fun character
progression for both Max and goofy. And I absolutely
dig it and enjoy it and all that good stuff.
