About this Episode

15 years. 8 countdowns. Thousands of memories. The GeekCast Radio Network is going back to where it all began, but this time, the rules have changed! Join TFG1Mike, Steve Megatron, and OptimusSolo as they pull back the curtain on the most ambitious project in GCRN history: The Top 100 Animated Series 15th Anniversary 2026 Edition.

This isn't just a rerun; it's a total reimagining. We’re breaking down the "History Lesson" of this list, from narrowing down a massive field to 264 elite nominees to expanding our contributor pool to 44 experts, including a special Celebrity Wing. OptimusSolo drops the nerd data on how many shows received #1 votes, which classics from the original list didn't make the cut, and how the five distinct time periods (Pre-80s through the 2020s) shifted the landscape. Plus, Steve gives us the tour of the brand-new and updated website features.

What you’ll get out of this episode:

  • The full methodology behind the 15th Anniversary ranking system.
  • A sneak peek at the "Just Missed" list—the shows that almost broke the Top 100.
  • Data insights on genre, production companies, and franchise representation.
  • The official kickoff to the nomination series spanning every era of animation.

UNLEASH THE GEEK IN YOU!

Darth Vader, king of wonders. Oh, God. Drops

might slumber. This is Neil Ross, and you are

listening to the Geekcast Radio Network. It's

time. The countdown begins. Hello and welcome

to the Geekcast Radio Network's Top 100 Animated

Series 15th Anniversary 2026 Edition. 15 years!

Can you believe it? I am TF2 and Mike. Joining

me is Steve Megatron. yo yo yo and optimist solo

if you would have told me 15 years ago that i'd

still be communicating with you mike i'm just

kidding you asshat you had it coming now i now

i don't even need to ask the question that's

at the end of this We've done eight top 100 countdowns

in the 15 years that we've been doing this, and

now we go back all the way to the beginning.

But things are completely different this time.

So take it away, Optimist Solo, and give the

people as well as us a little history lesson

on how this list was made, as well as letting

everyone know just exactly what is in store.

For the 2026 edition, a .k .a. the 15th anniversary

version of the Geekcast Radio Network's Top 100

Animated Series Countdown. First, I appreciate

the history lesson, Nod. Second, I feel like

there had to have been a Back to the Future Joker

reference that you missed somewhere in there.

But we'll forgive you for that. No, my flux capacitors

were fluxing. Well, anyways, we're going back

to the future. So we are 15 years later. Yeah.

So this all started once upon a time with a little

old website called IGN that put out a top 100

animated series list on a website that acquired,

I think, 368 clicks to get through. And 100 pages,

actually. But yeah, I like more. I like more

pages. Yeah, it took forever. now they've fixed

it so now there's four yeah they learned somewhere

along the way and it was obviously heavily influenced

at the time by the adult swim and a certain time

period etc so we decided we were gonna do our

own version do it better and we did that 15 years

ago and now we're back 15 years later to do it

even better so the ever -evolving top 100 animated

series of all time so so what he's trying to

say is folks we're trying to top ourselves at

this point since there's no one else we need

to top at this point yeah why not so there's

been a lot of websites and different publications

that have done these types of lists before i

think we've uh talked about some of those in

the nomination episodes that we did and things

like TV Guide and IGN and I think Wizard. And

there's been a ton of them, right? Like there's

been all kinds of websites that have done either

top 25 list, top 50 list, top 100 list. But we

do it a little bit different here. So we are

going to put our own little spin on it and try

to top all of those because I feel like all of

them have different flaws. And I'm sure we're

going to have some flaws too. Like there's always

biases. There's always different slants depending

on the group that you're... going to include

but i believe we've learned a few things over

the 15 years that have come and gone since we

did this the first time so i believe we are better

informed and better prepared to give you guys

a pretty darn good list so what have we changed

in 15 years well first the obvious there's been

15 more years of animated series y 'all so That

just comes without saying that there are other

shows now that could be in contention that didn't

even exist when we did this the first time. Will

it be harder for those new shows to make the

list? Will there be recency bias where it's easier

because it's top of mind? We will have to wait

and see as we get into the other episodes, which

will reveal the actual countdown. Mike, any thoughts

about the 15 years of animated series that we've

had since then and what kind of presence do you

think they may or may not have on our top 100

i going through the process of it all this time

around and like you mentioned the uh the nomination

episodes we did did here on geek cast radio um

i'll have to send steve the uh the link for those

episodes because i have a specific tag for all

all of those episodes that people can go listen

to it was interesting this time because i knew

this time going around it wasn't just uh because

of the numbering the point system that we use

for it that i wanted to get certain things here

certain things there i looked at it as okay like

you just said there has been more It's been 15

years. There have been so much more, so many

more cartoons that have come out since the first

time we did this. And for me, I knew I wanted

to get my top 10 be shows that I had watched

in the last 15 years for the most part. Some

are new, some are not. I did not specifically

try to just get, Oh my God, all of my favorites

from the eighties must be in my top. That wasn't

my goal this time at all. And it's just, it was

such an interesting and different process this

time versus last time, because the, the first

time it was like, we've never done this before.

Oh my God, we're all 80s kids, 90s kids. Oh my

God, we must get every 80s and 90s cartoon in

here. We got to get a lot of the classic Looney

Tunes or Tom and Jerry in here. We got to make

sure all of that is in here. And we have to defeat

IGN at all costs, no matter the cost. That wasn't

the goal this time. The goal this time was to

craft a list of the best cartoons that we could

find. kind of thing, even though we're not calling

this the top 100 animated series of all time.

We're not that arrogant. I am. No, I'm just kidding.

Well, we know you are. Steve, any predictions

on the number of shows from the 2010s and to

present that may or may not be able to crack

the top 100 overall? I think it's going to be

a pretty uneven fit here. I'm just throwing it

out there. I think there's going to be some newer

shows that get some of what I would expect the

older shows to receive. Plus, we have anime in

there as well, which we did not fully include.

Yeah, a lot more anime this time around than

we did last time. And I agree with Steve, but

I'll also... quote good old jr it's gonna be

a slobber knocker ladies and gentlemen yeah and

not only do we have 15 more years of animated

series to uh kind of look over but we've also

changed the way that we came to what could and

could not be voted on for the list so if you

have not yet to listen to our nomination reveal

episodes we've did a number of those that you

can go back and listen to so 15 years ago We

just got together some folks and we'll talk more

about who those folks were in a little bit. And

we just said, pick anything basically that aired

in, uh, on us television at some point or another.

And there wasn't a whole lot of criteria. So

you could literally pick from hundreds and, you

know, basically probably low thousands of, of

shows. You could just pick from anything, right?

Like there was no limits. So if you had that

niche show that you were the only fan of that.

five people watched back in 1979 and you wanted

to vote that number one on your list you could

have at it and you probably had a good chance

of getting it on to the top 100 with some just

kind of personal biases running wild when we

did it that way so we decided to try to switch

it up a little bit and as you heard during our

nomination episodes we allowed for 50 series

from five different time periods so we did the

older than the 1979s and older we did the 1980s

the 90s the 2000s and then the 2010s to prep

and we allowed their kind of had some conversations

and some research and we checked all the other

online lists and we did a lot of chatting together

and kind of narrowing it down talking to chat

GPT and things of that nature all kinds of different

pressure tests we tried to put it through to

land on our 50 most incredible shows from those

different time periods and that created our 250

show pool and then we opened it up for the fans

to select some fan choices that we had not included

in those 250 and they selected 14 additional

shows that they wanted us to include so that

made it come to a total of 264 that our contributors

got to select from so instead of thousands they

got to choose from 264 we're gonna see how that

and even then it just i'm sorry to interrupt

you but even then it was just like pulling teeth

with some people it was like oh but what if you

miss this what if you miss that what if it is

what if this isn't on there what if what if bakaru

bonsai from the the 10 000 bc isn't on the why

can't i vote for this why can't i vote for that

and i'm like you got 264 shows to vote on here

like we we we did all the research we well like

part of the problem too is if we had had a free

-for -all we would have ended up with the last

top 100 where there were shows that got voted

on but still wouldn't make the list and people

would be like complaining it didn't make the

list so yeah exactly Well, it's in it's, you

know, everybody has shows they've seen that other

people haven't. And that's that's normal. I mean,

we're all different. We all enjoy different things.

And the fact that we did take a look at what

we did in the past, we've looked at other lists

that we've done or even other lists that have

competed with ours. And we sat down and we're

like, all right, let's curate this so that, you

know, the ones that most definitely make the

list anyway will be on there. And then the ones

that might not get a shot. because there's so

many other shows that could end up in there kind

of like the first time like we eliminated a ton

that were in the original list yeah exactly and

i think it was more so about our i kind of view

it as a goal of coming up with the consensus

top 100 yeah what i mean by that is like it's

more broadly appealing across the board shows

that everybody knows name recognition and it's

it's not so much about the niche individual cartoon

that may be super high quality but only appealed

to a very small portion of an audience at any

given time like not taking anything away from

those but this is supposed to be more of a when

you're looking at i have to say of all time because

we are including all time right like i i know

that's not the title of the list but i'm saying

like yeah when you look across time We're looking

for more of a consensus that had staying power,

that had influence, that had all of these different

things impact culturally and things like that.

So I view it more of a consensus. So we were

trying to learn from a lesson from 15 years ago

when we did let them choose anything. And then

some very niche shows that were only appealing

to a very small amount of people were finding

their way in because they just got ranked so

high by one or two people or three people or

whatever the case might be. So we wanted to avoid

that, but also to make it easier on those that

we were asking to contribute. Because to me,

if I give you a list of 264 shows to pick from,

it's much easier than just giving you the void

of, hey, pick from anything that exists. There's

no list for you. Just like do your own research.

Yeah, no, that's yeah, exactly. That's been my

whole point. We did all the research already.

You know, changed a little bit as far as like

the pool of cartoons that we were choosing from.

That was one big change right off the bat. The

second thing, and I'll give you guys a chance

to react to these as well, but we definitely

changed the pool of contributors. So there was

no way that we were going to have the exact same

contributors that we did 15 years ago. Everybody

is in different places in their lives. We're

all 15 years older and things have happened,

you know, this and the other. So in the original.

incarnation of this we had 20 contributors that

was a pooling from basically five pop culture

related websites or media outlets right we had

the geek cast radio we had this week in geek

we had the pop culture network we had um behind

the voice actors and we had chicken pot pod those

were the only groups that were represented we

had 20 folks that were affiliated with those

sites and media outlets we have upped the ante

here and we have gone from 20 contributors to

44 in this one so we more than doubled our pool

of contributors and we've gone from five website

slash media outlets to I don't even have a number

y 'all because I was looking at the script I'm

like is he just going to reveal it on air because

I'm like wait a minute did he not do the math

on this you always do the math on that I didn't

because there's so many kind of gray areas but

I'm going to go through just some brief overviews

and I'm going to let Mike and Steve chime in

because each of us is more familiar or less familiar

with certain folks that are being represented

so yeah First, I wanted to just give a, I guess,

shout out to who's back from the original 20.

So who is back from the original 20? The original

20 consisted of Mike, Steve, and myself from

the Geekcast Radio Network, as well as three

other folks, which were JT from Saskatoon, Tara,

the Rising Star Blair, and Glade Pack. All Six

of us have returned 15 years later, and I think

that's pretty cool. So we got all six of those

original Geekcast Radio Network connections to

contribute this time around as well. Very cool.

Yeah, very cool. And after I list these all off,

I'll kind of give you guys your thoughts on the

20 originals and who came back. We also have

Ryan Merkley, who's back, who contributed originally.

We have Dirt from the Pop Culture Network that

has come back and submitted a list again. Flava

Dave, that is Dave Draper, right? That is Dave

Draper, yes. We have two people from Pop Culture

Network that have returned. Obviously, 15 years

ago, Pixel Dan was not as busy as he is today.

Pixel Dan was in the... beginnings of what he

was wanting to do with his life when it came

to the geek uh world and he has done phenomenal

work and and is living the dream so like i can't

fault him for not having time the dude is all

over the place right now yeah he he he's out

there in hollywood drinking out of power swords

and stuff right and then we also had scotty uh

scotty cash from pop culture network originally

um so we had four folks we got we got two of

them back um and then obviously like i said we

have one of the this weekend geek crew back obviously

christopher stapleton no longer does chicken

pot pod um i don't know where he disappeared

off the map i don't know if he's on social media

yeah he is on social media i've reached out to

him uh he's a preacher or a pastor of a church

in i want to say tennessee i could have the state

wrong um but he did not have time to participate

and then we had some behind the voice actors

people and phil from blogomatic they were not

able to participate. So we do have six, seven,

eight, nine, nine return. We almost returned

half the list. So nine out of the 20 came back.

Steve, what do you think about the fact that

we do have some representation from the original

list here? I think it's awesome. I think that

it's great. Those that were, you know, able to

and had the time to dedicate to revisiting this

list, especially when it's such a curated list,

this go around instead of here's a list of over

a thousand cartoons. Good luck. Yeah, exactly.

Yeah. Yeah. And so it was it was nice. You know,

we did a lot of the legwork to help kind of lessen

the blow of it and put, you know, easier guidelines

as far as, you know, the submission process and

try and make it as painless as possible. And

no, I think it's awesome the amount of people

that did come back from the original. And that

just is awesome, too, because it shows the biases

from the original. are not going to come into

play in this one because we have so many new

people. Yeah. We have 35 new folks. Before I

get into those, Mike, did you have any thoughts

on the nine that returned or the original crew?

No, it's awesome that they came back. So thankful

that they were able to take time out of their

busy schedules and busy lives to come back and

contribute. And thank you to them for doing so.

You know, we always have wanted to... We have

a community here at the GCRN in saying, hey,

anytime you want to come back, come back. If

there's anything you need from us, anything you,

you know, have an idea for or, you know, is it

OK if we reach out to you? Yada, yada, yada,

yada, yada. We always want to be able to have

an open communication with everybody that we've

ever worked with. uh sometimes it doesn't always

happen but you know life is as life does and

whatever else but no it's great that that the

that everyone that did come back has come back

and it's so awesome and yeah no it's it's great

it's it's wonderful i think it was fun to being

able to reach back out to some of the folks we

used to um you know communicate and record with

way back in the day like you know obviously tara

comes to mind like being able to to make that

connection again and see how she was doing. And

she was very excited to participate. So things

like that, you know, blade was obviously around

way back in the early days. So those things are

definitely fun. So that means we have 35 new

faces that are contributing. And by new, I don't

necessarily mean new to the network, just new

to the top 100 animated series countdown. Cause

they were not involved when we did this one,

since it was the first one we've done. A few

of these folks have done a number of the other

countdowns or contributed and some of the other

ones that we've done. So they won't be new. names

to the listeners necessarily, but from the geek

cast radio network or former geek cast radio

network staff and, and contributors, co -hosts,

et cetera. Obviously Dan Clark, the comic concierge

is back. He's contributed to almost, I think

every other top 100 list we've done besides the

first one, I think just because he wasn't quite

around yet. Um, um, Amanda is back. She's currently

the co -host of the true bromance podcast with

Hyro, the former, uh, BCRN. co -host on cinema

geek so uh and my wife i should uh i buried the

lead there i guess but yeah you should have led

with that dude you're sleeping on the couch tonight

right um jeremy fane uh um is here as well as

i'll probably mess up a couple of them here we'll

get to them as i go through um the simplistic

review crew so they've been present for quite

a few of these top 100 countdown so we have both

DJ Valentine and Matthew Stewart both joining

us for this one so thanks those guys for participating

as well we have Andrew Hinkson sketch sketch

cartoon guy he is here and then I'll let you

guys say more about some of these folks because

you know them better but Eduardo Fryer is here

we have we already mentioned Ryan Merkley we

have Ryerson Kari who's joining us. We have David

Beruffi from David Beruffi Reviews. We have Tim

Silvers, super fan and some sporadic co -host,

I guess, depending on what we do here at the

Geekcast Radio Network. He kind of took over

Mass Mayhem since you dropped out. He helped

me when I could take no more. Scanner 51 and

Nicole Hale contributed. I'll let Mike talk more

about those in a minute. Tim Nydell, Art Danner.

We have General Techno, Alana Ace, Andrew Roebuck

from UpNerd Podcast. We have Mike Sievert from

Cybertron Radio, two mics, two furious hosts,

MSRP. We have Kai Dragon Media. We have Christopher

Morton from Indeed Podcast, and he's been a guest

on the Geekcast Radio Network from Cracktastic

Plastic. We got Jason and Elgin and Matt. Or

no, Matt was also from the Indeed podcast. I'll

get some of these guys screwed up. We have Alex

Dunn, Jason Swoboda, and Steve, you have some

familial connections as well. So let us know

who those folks are. My children actually are

participating and they were not even born yet

at the original list. And also another family

member. Ian and Nolan. Yeah. And then your brother

as well, right? Yeah, my brother. Yeah. Yep.

Captain Ruggles Gaming. Yeah, a little bit of

a family reunion in this countdown. Mike, any

of those that I mentioned that you want to call

out as far as their YouTube channels, podcasts,

or networks? Yeah, I mean, KyDragonMedia, you

can head on over to YouTube, check him out. I'm

trying to think. General Techno has his toy reviews

on YouTube, right? Yeah, General Techno, I think

he does. I don't remember off the top of my head.

He does a lot of drawing stuff as well. uh who

else did you mention nicole hale i know you've

done a lot of work yeah she does a lot of the

she used to do a lot of the podcasting stuff

with us she was one third of the showtime synergy

crew it was me her and lady rec on there uh ryan

merkeley is the main host at up nerd andrew roebuck

does some of the co -hosting with him but ryan

does most of the he is the main host along with

his wife abby So they do all kinds of movie stuff

and all kinds of stuff over there. Art Danner,

Tim Nydell. Yeah, Tim Nydell does. He used to

do Saturday Morning Rewind. He is now doing a

thing called Pressing Rewind. So that's cool.

Art Danner used to actually do XRG with Mike

Powers, Michael Powers, longtime friend, longtime

friend of Steve's more than. I mean, he's a longtime

friend of all of ours, but Steve is. how mike

and art and everybody got all introduced to all

of us so he's the reason i started altered geek

yeah exactly uh so but art and i have done several

podcasts over the years episodes and i i had

reached out to him and i said hey do you want

to do this and he's like sure okay uh so yeah

so there's art and uh who else is on that list

I think we've named most of them. We've got Brad

Mull on there also, I forgot to mention. And

then Alana Ace from Alana Unleashed. That takes

us to 38. We had six more people contribute,

and we'll call that the celebrity wing, I guess.

We tried to up our game even more. How about

we get some folks that are in the industry or

have been working perpendicular or parallel to

the industry, I guess, for a long time. So we

have some cartoon historians that we got on board

here. Jerry Beck is probably one of the most

well -known cartoon historians out there. He

has been featured on multiple TV documentary

type styles and different things like that. He's

got some books that you can check out that he's

written on some of the classic, you know, cartoon

era and things of that nature. So we have Jerry

Beck that participated. We also have Greg Airbar,

who is another cartoon historian and who's done

similar work along with Jerry Beck. They've just

done a ton of work when it comes to some of the

classic era. And Keith Scott, as well as a cartoon

historian and a voice actor. If you want to go

back in the day, he did a lot of cool classic

cartoon voices. And then how about some actual

writers from some cartoon shows that may or may

not come up? over the course of our countdown.

We're talking about Tom Ruger from the Animaniacs

Tiny Toon family. Yeah, we have Flint Dill and

Buzz Dixon. So we have some legit folks that

submitted lists. Some of them, we allowed anybody

to submit a list. They had to be at least 25

cartoons long. Some of them submitted 50, some

submitted 100. So it was fun getting all of those.

The majority of the folks that did participate

did submit lists of 100. So that was fun. The

other thing that that does, I know, Steve, we

kind of talked about this offline, but when we

did this 15 years ago with those 20 folks, I

know Tara was a little bit younger, but had we

taken Tara out of the equation, our age range

was not huge 15 years ago. No, it was not. I

think we were probably all within. five to ten

years of each other would be my guess not knowing

every single person's age i know there was a

few folks a tiny bit older than me and there

was a some folks that were a little bit younger

but we're not talking about like different generations

necessarily and that is not the case this time

around we have well how your youngest son is

how old steve He's 10 going on 11. So he's technically

in the gen alpha. And my older son is gen Z.

So he's 13. So we go from the age range of 10,

who I believe, and I didn't ask all of these

gentlemen their age because that would be rude.

But from what I could find from research, I believe

our oldest participant is 72. So most of the

six celebrities I listed off, Jerry Beck, Buzz

Dixon, Scott Greger, Flint Dilley, and Tom Ruger

are all in their seventies or up. I believe they're

all in their seven. So 70, 71, 72, somewhere

in there, there might be a couple in their upper

sixties and I'm probably getting stones thrown

at me now, but, um, but basically, yeah, from

age 10, we'll call it from 10 to like 70. So

we have. Decades and decades worth of representation

here. And obviously, we ourselves are 15 years

older than we were. And we have some more folks

that are probably younger than us that are involved

this time around, too. So I feel like we have

a great range of age represented this time. And

I think one thing that will be interesting is

how that translates into the shows that make

our countdown. Instead of last time where the

majority of us grew up in the 80s or 90s, now

we have a range, right? We have some people that

have been growing up in the last 10 years. We

have some people that grew up before all of us

were watching cartoons whatsoever. So how is

that going to impact the newer shows? How is

it going to impact the classics? We're going

to have to wait and see. I did not have my daughter

participate. She is only the age of five. And

the reason being is because... For example, we

have books that she brings home from the library

and she has to read, and then she gets little

badges for them for school. And at the end of

every little test that she takes on these books,

it asks her to rate the book on a scale of one

through four stars for being great. We have read

probably 30 -some books this year, and every

book has gotten a four -star rating. So I don't

know if she's at the age where she can discern.

Yeah, she's not. at the point yet where she knows

oh this is a this is not a right you know five

star four star cherry book this is a one star

lemon book yet like right so so one less vote

i guess for paw patrol and maybe that how to

train your dragon cartoon because we didn't include

her but uh maybe another another countdown in

the future we'll get her going but she does have

fans she tells me that watch She has a flock

that are her fans on YouTube. We'll let her think

that they exist. Anyways, so I think it's going

to be interesting to see how this age range plays

out into our lists. And I will say that there

was a certain group in our celebrity wing that

definitely was upset that we didn't include more

of the classic cartoons than we did. I'm sure.

They thought only including 50. from 1979 and

before was was not quite right a few of them

definitely voiced that too so anyway um it'll

be interesting to see how that all plays out

so mike any thoughts about the pool of contributors

this time around no i think it's going to be

good and i can guarantee you folks batman the

animated series and the simpsons are not going

to be number one and number two this time but

no it's already placing bets Hey, place your

bets early, folks. But it's one of those things

where having the pool that we have now, that's

great because we have such a diverse range of

generations. And I think that's cool. I, you

know, I will tell you that for those that haven't

listened to any of our other top 100 countdowns,

which come on, guys, go back and listen to those.

But anyways, if you haven't. The way this typically

works for those first timers amongst us is I'm

the only one with the information. So I mean

like that, and I guess I'm a control freak like

that. So I'm the only one that knows who voted

for what. I'm the only one that knows which shows

have made the top 100, where they place, et cetera.

Everything else gets revealed live on air or

on the show. So you get real reactions from the

panel. And because of that, it's double -sided.

You're going to get real authentic reactions.

But on the other side of that coin is, nobody

is able to research and prepare a hundred percent

for what they're going to have to talk about

yeah and i know we get critiqued sometimes or

criticized sometimes for that but i will say

that a majority of the shows that are in our

264 possible shows we are familiar with and we

have all had different experiences with them

or we did some homework and some research on

them ahead of time so yes we may not know which

100 are going to get here but unlike last time

it's less likely that there's just one completely

out of left field that we didn't see coming we

all know what the choices were so yeah and it's

the only way to do it honestly it's we've been

doing this for 15 damn years and it's the best

way that we've done it there's no other way that

we'll ever do it because it's the most real way

to do it is for you to have the have the information

So, yeah. Another thing that helps with having

44 folks this time is that having already been

able to look over all the submissions from all

the folks, I can tell you that there was a few

individuals, maybe one, maybe two, maybe three,

that you can tell were very much 80s centric,

right? Like I saw a couple of lists that were

very heavily influenced by cartoons from the

80s. I also saw some lists that were very heavily

influenced by cartoons from the 90s. And I also

saw lists that were very heavily influenced by

the classic era, like anything from the 50s,

60s, etc. So those biases and those kind of lists

that centered around certain time periods did

exist. But I feel like because there's 44 lists

and because each time period has had some different

proponents of it that have been included, I don't

know if any time period has a distinct advantage.

Yeah. So I think that's an interesting thing

when we get 44 lists to see how kind of some

of that gets spread out. And I do have some data

for all the nerds out there that are like me.

So we're going to throw some numbers at you,

and then we're going to give you some things

to kind of keep an eye on as we start doing the

reveal episodes. And then we're going to tease

you at the very end with some shows. We're not

revealing any of our top 100, but we are going

to reveal a few shows that just missed. the top

100 to kind of whet your appetite. So that'll

be coming towards the end. So first, for some

data here, we had 264 shows that were eligible

to be voted on. Steve or Mike, do you have any

guesses as to how many of those 264 shows got

a vote? All of them. Well, yeah, I don't know.

I'll say probably all but like 30. It was interesting

because when we were doing the nomination episodes,

we were very clear that like which ones we were

going to possibly consider and which ones we

for sure weren't and things of that nature. But

there's quite a few, especially from a couple

of the time periods that you probably were going

to like not consider. Right. Like there's only

100 spots, etc. Out of those 264 shows, 260 of

them received votes. Wow. All for four. That's

awesome. Okay. That was surprising. Question.

What were the four that didn't receive the votes?

Can't tell. Yeah, you can. Steve doesn't want

me to tell. Oh, come on. I'm just messing with

you now because it's fun. I can reveal those

if you would like me to. Yeah. Go for it. A little

bit more niche, I suppose. And three of them,

let's see, two of them were from the more recent

time periods. And I believe one was from the

early. time period and one was from the 2000s

so the earliest one the one from the pre -1980s

that did not get a vote surprising with the the

list that we had here but from 1971 the funky

phantom did not receive a single vote really

yeah wow i would not have been able to predict

that one out of that group i kind of get it though

it's interesting yeah yeah interestingly enough

out of the 14 fan added shows 13 of them got

votes nice so only one show that the that the

fans nominated did not get a vote and that would

be the 2009 version of the garfield show did

not receive a vote okay it's still amazing though

that so many of even the fan votes made it in

right You have at least got some votes. Doesn't

mean that they all made the top 100, obviously,

because there's not them and that's not how math

works, but they all got at least votes. The other

two will definitely go on me because their niche

shows that I think I'm apparently the only one

that saw them in the last 15 years. And I think

they deserve more love, but they did not get

any love on our group. So that would be Nico

and the Sword of Light and the Kulapari, the

Army of Frogs with Mark Hamill. So those are

from 2016 and 2017. They did not receive a single

vote either, including myself. I didn't vote

for him. So they made the nominee list. I think

that's good. Maybe somebody will go watch them,

but not enough love to get a vote. I tried watching

them and I couldn't. It just wasn't for me. Fair

enough. All right. So that's your first little

data thing here. All right. What's it going to

take to make the list this time around? I already

told Mike and Steve this, uh, off air, but last

time you needed, uh, so many points to get on

the list. And this time you needed a different

number. I'll just put it that way. So this time

in order to make the list, you needed to have

at least 762 points. That would have been for

reference because people might not remember last

time. What did they need last time? I don't have

the number that you needed to make the list,

but I have the number that that would have placed

you on last time. Okay. So just to make the list

this time, you needed 762 votes. If you had 762

points last time, you would have been in our

top 30. Oh, wow. Damn. Oh, and also we doubled

the number too. So right. True. Still, that's

crazy. Yeah. So it. Took some voting to get you

into the list this time around. All right. Let's

put some pressure on. And I know there's going

to be certain people that listening and are trying

to like make their predictions early and formulate

what's going to land where and what's not going

to make it and this, that, and the other. But

how about this? How many of our original top

50 survived and are still in our top 100? Oh,

Steve. I'm going to say... Did all of them make

it, or did some get boosted all the way out of

the countdown? I'm going to say 38 of them made

it. Mike? I'm going to... As much as... I'm just

going to make the clerk's joke. 37. Only two

shows in our top 50 last time are not going to

be on the countdown at all. So we're returning

48 out of our top 50 shows are still going to

be on the countdown. Yeah. Not telling you where

they're going to fall, but that is okay. You're

not, you're not going to tell us where they're

going to fall, but I can live with that. Yeah.

But what are the two that didn't make it? Not

telling you. Oh, come on. No, it doesn't. It

does too, because yeah, there'll be outrage.

There'll be outrage. How about this? How many

of our top 100 last time will not appear on this

list at all? I do not know. No guess. All right.

So out of the top 100 we revealed last time,

27 of those shows will not be mentioned this

time. Wow. So not quite a third of our list is

going to disappear. Can you give us the top two

that didn't that aren't going to? Oh, come on.

Come on. Nuggets. I'm only giving away nuggets.

Come on. That is a nugget. Come on. How about

this for something I didn't consider? All right.

Shows that were eligible last time and received

votes. That didn't make our top 100. But we'll

make it this time. Okay. Interesting. We have

16. Oh, wow. That received votes last time. Not

enough to make the top 100, but have gained enough

votes in these 15 years. Now make the top 100.

16 of them. So that is not something I even thought

about when we were doing this. We talked a lot

when we were doing the nomination episodes of

ones that we had in our top 100 that may not

make it, right? Because we were like, there's

15 more years of cartoons. We got to make some

spots, so certain ones are going to drop out.

Never did I consider ones that were eligible

last time that didn't make it that will make

it this time. Wow. So, again, a different pool

of people. So, definitely interesting. And then

it's going to certainly throw things off like

massively in this one. So it's good. I feel like

there's going to be a huge upset. Well, yeah,

it's like I said at the beginning, everything

is different this time around. Everything's different.

All right. So we had 44 contributors. Yep. And

just out of curiosity, how many? different shows

do you think we had ranked number one by a contributor

all 44 no really some repeats and there's some

there's definitely people that multiple people

that had the same number one still really we

have 20 different shows that got ranked number

one by at least one contributor oh right interesting

here's an interesting secondary question from

there out of those 20 shows that were ranked

number one by at least one contributor how many

of those 20 made the top 100 15 10 believe it

is if my math is right i believe it's 17 wow

those three people's number ones will not be

talked about at least not in the proper 100 through

one they'll be talked about be a wrap up and

different things yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but

they're not actually in the countdown yeah i

can see that yeah a little bit harder this time

because last time if you put something at a number

one it probably had a pretty good chance of at

least getting in the countdown even if it was

number 100 right yeah this time with 44 folks

You needed more than just one person voting at

number one. Well, yeah, because the more people,

the harder it is to. I mean, you basically needed

762 points. Yeah, exactly. You needed seven people

to put it number one and one person to put it,

you know, whatever the number that is about top

50 in order just to make the list. So that's

kind of a crazy thing to think about. So those

are some of the stats I will throw out there.

As far as things to keep an eye on this time

around, some of these will be similar to what

we did last time, but I just want to kind of

set the table for things that you'll probably

hear us bring up here and there throughout the

countdown. Yep. Number one, which time period

reigns supreme? So we'll definitely be keeping

track of the entrance and when they came from.

So at the end of the day, will the pre -1980s

reign supreme, the 80s, the 90s, the 2000s? or

the 2010 to present. So that is something that

we will definitely be keeping track of as we

go. Mike, do you have any predictions on which

time period will reign supreme and which one

will be the least representative? I want to say

that the... Thinking of who most of the 44...

Combatants are. I want to say the 80s and 90s

is the majority. Which time period do you think

will have the least representation? I want to

say the more modern stuff. Do you agree or disagree?

I don't know. I don't know, though, because like

for me, like. There are at least. I think six

or seven modern shows that I would have ranked

really high. I don't know. Steve, go ahead. He's

like, I don't know. Pass the baton. I don't know.

I'm going to guess we're still going to be 80s

and 90s heavy. That would leave the pre -1980s,

the 2000s, or the 2010 to present. Which one

do you think is least representative? I think

it's going to be I think you said pre -1980s?

Yeah, pre -1980s, the 2000s, or the 2010 to present.

I think pre -1980s is going to be the least represented.

Okay. Another thing that we will be keeping track

of, I've already put in the time to log the following

two pieces of information for every show that

made the top 100. The first thing I logged was

what channel it aired on mainly in the beginning.

I know some shows jump from channel to channel,

et cetera. Yeah. But as far as the original show,

what channel did they air on or in some situations

where they syndicated? Right. So that's something

that we will be keeping track of. Anybody have

a guess as to a channel that will be most represented?

Well, if we're talking pre -1980s, it's probably

either NBC, ABC, or CBS. If we're talking 1980s

and forward, it could be Fox. It could be almost

anything. Talking 90s, it's definitely Cartoon

Network. It could be anything. Steve, any thoughts

on Channel? I'm kind of torn because we had...

uh we had so many channels we had the nbc cbs

abc fox uh we had kids wb we had usa cartoon

express we had cartoons on the sci -fi channel

we had disney uh cartoon network uh yeah there

was just a ton i'm gonna guess yeah and there

was like abc family too i think that had some

stuff uh yeah I'm kind of torn between Fox Kids

and Cartoon Network. I don't think this is something

we looked at too much last time around, so I

think this is going to be an interesting one.

No, it wasn't. This will be interesting. We never

did, yeah. And the other thing that I'm pairing

that with, and sometimes it's a similar thing,

but the other thing I tracked for all of these

shows was the production company that produced

the cartoon. Yeah. Any guesses, Mike, as far

as the most frequent company that produces these?

Well, I think, again, it's going to tie into

the time period. It's going to tie into the decades.

So you get pre -1980s, that's going to be Warner

Brothers, that's going to be Disney, that's going

to be that kind of stuff. 80s, it could be Sunbow,

it could be... whatever 90s like steve said it

could be warner brothers it could be whatever

you get into the 2010s and to the present day

it could be anything so i mean yeah it's going

to be very interesting to see how many production

companies are are tied to how many cartoons are

tied to which production companies yeah Steve,

any production companies that jumped to the top

of your mind? I'm going to say Warner Brothers

just because they had Hanna -Barbera. They had

a lot of the legacy studios involved there. And

then you had Spielberg and everything else, you

know, with the Tiny Teens Animaniacs. I mean,

they owned the 90s with a lot of stuff, especially

with programs with Tom Ruger. So I'm going to

say Warner Brothers. Okay. I'll have to see how

that plays out. Another thing that we will look

at is how we can separate this into different

groupings as far as maybe genres go. So, for

example, we have the adult primetime, almost

like Adult Swim, but it doesn't have to be on

Adult Swim, but you know what I'm talking about,

right? The adult primetime comedy shows. We have

anime. We have the superhero cartoons. We have

just normal comedy series like made for kids.

We have like the action series that appealed

a lot to, you know, boys that were growing up

watching cartoons. Mike, do you think of any

of those or something else that pops in your

mind that you think may be very heavily represented

in the top 100? No, it's all sound about right.

Do you think one will reign supreme? When it

comes to genre of cartoon. Knowing us. It's,

knowing us and the people we hang out with, it's

probably going to be sci -fi, robots, that kind

of stuff. Might be some comedy. Again, I do not,

I will literally swallow my microphone if Batman

the Animated Series and The Simpsons are number

two and number one. This countdown will be null

and void if that happens. I think it's going

to be, I think there's going to be an upset.

I know, I know, I know. Based on the sheer amount

of different people. Exactly. I know. I'm just

saying, I don't think with everyone we have this

time, like we've already said in this episode,

we've practically, we've just gone over double

what we've got 44 this time. Last time we had

20. we've gone double plus four in the participants

and we have all of the stuff we've had we we've

done this so differently than we did last time

i don't think it's going to happen but as far

as the genre of cartoon and knowing how the three

of us are with the each of our tastes and things

I just don't know which genre is going to win

the battle, but just knowing how the three of

us love Star Trek, Star Wars, Transformers, just

those three franchises alone, look at all of

the animation between Star Wars and Transformers.

I mean, Star Trek has a little animation here

and there. Not much. Or so in recent years. I

mean, they've got three series, but yeah. Okay,

yeah. I didn't want to... I was waiting for you

to say that, but compared to... Yeah, anyway.

I don't know. Genre is up in the air. Mike's

drowning. Save him, Steve. What genre do you

think will be most represented? Honestly, I think

that we're going to end up with... a lot of either

sci -fi fantasy type stuff just because you get

your your superheroes you get your robots you

get you know pretty much i mean they're all sci

-fi based so i would i would say that is going

to be our kind of our bread and butter no matter

what happens since you mentioned superheroes

put you on the spot here you think we end up

having more or less superhero representation

than we did last time i think we'll have more

okay what about anime I think we'll have more.

What about adult comedy? I think it'll be probably

a split. I think it's going to be a lot less

than what you would expect, but I think some

of the most prominent ones are going to show

up. I think some of the most prominent ones are

going to show up, but I think they're going to

be in the middle of the list when they show up.

So I think they're going to be 52, 53, 54. That

area. I'll have to wait and see. Another thing

that I'm going to be keeping track of is which

franchises have the most representation or which

properties. So like last time, I didn't do enough

research, I guess, on the last countdown. I know

we had a couple franchises that were very heavily

represented. For example, I believe we had four

different entrants in the Spider -Man IP in our

original list. I think Batman, we had at least

three, if not four, and things of that nature.

So what are your guys' thoughts when it comes

to franchises? And does having more people mean

that those get more spread out and less likely

to have multiple? Or because we've had 15 more

years and more reboots and remakes and different

spinoffs, does it mean that we're more likely

to have more of a certain franchise or another?

I think we definitely have more of certain franchises

just because there have been so many reboots.

We've had multiple Ninja Turtles reboots. Two

of them weren't even existing back when we did

the first one. We've had multiple Transformers

series since then that didn't exist. We've had

multiple Batman series. We've had different Dragon

Ball series. We've had different animes. We've

had some other... different Cartoon Network shows

that didn't exist. There's so many different

shows that didn't exist during the first list

or that were just getting started to the point

that they weren't worthy to be included or eligible.

There were shows that I was debating when we

were going through the initial list of how many

seasons did it have? Is it recency bias that

I wanted on there? It literally was like, okay,

how... how well is this going to be remembered

a year from now? And I'm, I'm glad that some

of the choices I made, you know, of not including

them, uh, made sense because again, like some

of these shows deserve to be on here. And then

some of them it's like, okay, is it, is it like

my bias speaking or is it like truly worthy?

You know? So I, I think that, I think we're going

to see a lot of shows that we didn't expect.

Yeah. That could be. We'll have to wait and see.

Another last thing that I have already logged

for us is the movement of shows. So I have written

down exactly how many spaces a show fell or how

many it rose. So it either did better than last

time or did worse than last time or it stayed

the exact same or whatever the case may be. So

I have all of that logged too so we can kind

of... gauge how much a show dropped or gained

in popularity with our new group and with 15

more years. So that'll be something that we reveal

as we kind of go through. All right. So that

is all stuff to look forward to. Also, I want

to, I haven't talked to Steve or Mike about this,

but I want to have, I'm going to put it on them,

spring it on air. So in previous, and we talked

a little bit about this, but we didn't a hundred

percent come to a decision. So I have a proposal

here. In previous top 100 lists, whenever we

had a tie, we had a specific written down tiebreaker.

And it usually consisted of what did it appear

on more lists. And then there's also the logic

of what was the highest. It was ranked, which

show had the highest ranking out of all of the

lists. My proposal for us is, and typically when

we do these records, we invite some. guest commentators

to join us and talk about the things. I'm sure

that will happen this time as well along the

way. My proposal is every time we have a tie

that we decide on air which one goes which spot.

We just have the conversation between those two

shows and come to a determination on which one

we are going to rank higher. Whoever is on the

panel at that point. Whoever is on the record.

I'm game. we'll add a little wrinkle and i will

tell you right off the bat that that is going

to come up six times we have six ties in our

top 100 which is crazy with this many people

okay and this many shows and this many folks

okay another question then so six times that

this is going to happen yep how many decades

is it going to happen in how many of the five

decades is it happening in Well, it could be

two shows from completely different decades that

are tied. So it depends, but we're going to get

a good feel for how that process works. Cause

it's going to happen three times in our first

episode. Oh, wow. Well, at least, at least the

first one. Yeah. I was going to say, at least

we're knocking it out in one episode. We'll find

out if our process works or not, or if it's a

jam. So, well, and that's the benefit of the

comment section. Yes, absolutely. Speaking of

the comment section. We've come to that time

where I can, if you guys like, I could reveal

a few shows that did not make it. How many we

reveal is going to be up to you. I will tell

you and preface that by the more we reveal, the

more heat we're going to take right off the bat.

Hey, but controversy is fun. I could reveal the

three that just missed it. I could reveal the

five. I could reveal 10 that just missed it.

I don't know how much we want to. Just do the

top 10 animated series. It seems like a solid

number. And then it gets that blood flowing right

on the post. All right. So like I said, in order

to make the countdown, you needed at least 762

points based on all the tallies that we got.

The top 10 shows that didn't make it are going

to range from 677 to 761. So one of them missed

it by one point. The other missed it by almost

100. Not quite. So I will go in order of furthest

away to the closest. So coming in in the 110th

place, I believe it was, I don't remember if

this one was on our countdown or not, but 677

points. This is a show entitled, Mike's going

to not like this, but whatever. This is a pup

named Scooby -Doo. 110. Did not. make the list.

That is from our 80s time. That's crazy. Wait

a minute. What did that make last time? I don't

know if it was on our list or not. I don't think

it was, but I don't think it was. I'm pretty

sure it was. I have to cross -reference the 17

other charts and graphs I have here, but I do

not believe it made the list last time. That's

too much work. Next one up that did not make

the cut this time. This one is from the 2000s,

I believe. And this is 109th place for American

Dad. Oh, okay. That's fine. American Dad did

not quite have enough juice to reach the top

100. That's interesting. Alright, let's go back

to the 80s. 108th place. Disney show here. 684

points. Not enough to make the top 100 for The

New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Damn. That's

brutal. So three interesting ones that we've

revealed so far. Pub Name Scooby -Doo, American

Dad, and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

With our next one, though, is where we will start

catching some flack and some heat and some controversy

in the comments section. This show is also going

to represent a show that definitely was on our

Top 100 Countdown last time, I believe, where

it was... It was number 99 last time. Oh, wow.

Dropped down to 107th. This is Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Oh, man. Oh, boy. Let the hate begin. That's

going to be brutal. Yes. Because there are huge

fans. I had to check it a couple different times

to see if it was correct and to make sure I didn't

add something wrong. But that is the... happened

there so all right um next up this one also made

our original countdown at number 78 it drops

out of the countdown this time at 106 captain

and oh dang that's okay not quite enough love

for captain and all right this show at 105th

definitely was not on our original countdown

because it did not exist From the last 15 years,

I guess the first time we've mentioned that,

a show that didn't quite have enough to make

it missed it by that much, about 59 points. Bluey

is not going to make our top 100. So Bluey dismisses

100. Not sure why I'm cheering, but all right.

Yes. He's like, no kids cartoons. Right? Not

that one anyway. Bluey is a very good cartoon,

just for the record. There could be, there are

worse out there. Just saying. If we didn't get

enough heat for Neon Genesis, how about we add

some more to it with our 104th selection that

didn't quite make the list, also did not exist

when we did this list originally, but is often

cited as one of the best, if not the best, animated

series of all time. Also, the first time we're

going to mention somebody's number one that did

not make the countdown, this would be Bojack

Horseman at 104. Not enough points to make the

list. Dang. I can at least say I've watched five

episodes of all of these. I think, and this one

goes back to the consensus. This is one of those

examples where, yes, quite a few people would

have this very high, if not number one in the

top 10. But when it comes to consensus over time,

over generations, not as universally appreciated,

I guess. So not taking anything away from the

quality of the show itself, but did not have

enough staying power amongst 44 lists to make

our top 100. Let's have our third in a row from

shows that didn't exist back when we did it last

time. So coming in at 103rd would be Young Justice.

Oh, dang. Young Justice did not make the list.

How about our 89th pick from our original countdown?

Also not making the list. Coming in at 102nd,

our first or second, I guess, show from the 90s.

That would be The Magic Schoolboy. Wow. Is this

the new one or the old one? The 90s one, I believe.

I don't have all the years written down here,

but I believe that would be the 90s one. There

are going to be some people revolting over these

lists already. I know. And our last one that

didn't make the countdown, for the record, Magic

School Bus missed it by six points. So all somebody

else needed to do was rank it like 94th, and

it would have been in the top 100. All right.

Our last one that didn't quite make it and our

only one so far that we've talked about, I think

we covered all the time periods except for pre

-1980s. So here's our first pre -1980s mention.

This show did not make the list because it was

one point short. Somebody else needed to rank

it 100 and it would have been in there. We're

talking about George of the Jungle. So George

of the Jungle, not quite enough to make the list.

I do find it funny how this list played out,

though. Like in order of like what is is closest

to making the list versus not. Right. So to go

over that just real quickly, a pup named Scooby

Doo, American Dad, New Adventures of Winnie the

Pooh, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Captain and the

Game Master, Bluey, Bojack Horseman, Young Justice,

Magic School Bus and George of the Jungle. Steve,

further reaction. I can definitely see some people

being a little upset of a few of these on here.

Specifically, I can see people being a little

upset about, you know, Neon Genesis Evangelion,

Bojack Horseman, probably Magic School Bus, depending.

And then like American Dad. The rest of them,

I could see people being like indifferent. But

yeah, that's that's crazy. don't think it reveals

too much about the list either because we have

a pre -1980s we have three 1980s shows two 90s

only one from the 2000s and then three from the

2010s to present that just makes me want to go

through my list again just to figure out what

i so we have all of the time periods represented

there and we had one person's number one already

fall so that means there's two other number ones

that we did not talk about just now, and we will

not talk about in the top 100. So those folks

are going to have to wait until the entire list

is revealed, and then we'll mention it in the

wrap -up show, I guess. That'll be the first

time that those two folks figure out where their

top pick was. And it's interesting, because I

will tell you, the other two number one picks

fell to 148th place. Oh, wow. And 199th place.

Oh, damn. So they weren't relatively close as

far as that goes. So yeah, that's the teaser.

Those are 10 shows that didn't make it. We got

100 shows that did. Steve, do you want to talk

a little bit about where people can comment as

far as the website goes and some stuff like that?

Yeah, so there's some different stuff going on

this time on the website, and I'll be moving

some of the links directly to the main page after

this episode is posted. we're going to have a

couple of new features actually. Uh, in addition

to this, we have, we have the, the fan voting

and it's like a fan zone area. Transformers animated

joke. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't catch that until just

now. Um, yeah. So anyways, it's going to allow

people to, we're going to have some sections

where people will be able to vote themselves.

And granted, some of the dates on it need to

be updated because we're recording this a little

later than what we expected. But there'll be

a certain amount of shows where they can vote.

And I'm probably going to do like open entry

just because I don't want to have to type it

a million times and have people cycle through

like dropdowns. And then I'll just sort through

it after. But there's also going to be the ability

to do voice submissions for this. And people

will be able to save clips from 30 seconds to

180 seconds. And they will be included in some

of the future episodes where they will be able

to defend their favorite show and the reason

why or why not it should or should not have been

on this list. I'm going to ask that people just

limit it to one per episode, but... Because it

could get out of hand if there's too many. But

it'll be interesting to hear people share a memory

about their favorite show or react to the current

ranking as of that episode or defend. Not all

entries will be used, but we'll try and include

as many as we can. But yeah, you won't need any

extra software. It's built into the website.

You can record what you're trying to have. There's

drop -downs for the top 100. the subject line

include your name email if you so choose uh and

then uh yeah you can record it right there and

send it right to us and we'll get it and so yeah

i'm i'm excited to have that that feature as

a option this time around yeah one thing that

i did forget to mention is another thing that

we typically do with these lists at least i do

when i do the stats they'll also give you counts

of like how many lists shows appeared so as we

reveal each entry I won't do it for every single

one, but for quite a few of them, I'll let you

know how many lists out of the 44 they appeared

on. I will tell you that the fewest list that

a show appeared on that made the top 100 is 12.

So it had to appear on at least 12 of the 44

lists in order to make it. And I will also tell

you that there is not a single show that appeared

on all 44 lists. There's not a single show that

appeared on 43 of the 44 lists. There's not a

single show that appeared on 42, 41 or 40 of

the list. The highest list count that we're going

to get is 38 out of the 44. Wow. So 38 out of

44 is your top bar. 12 out of 44 is your bottom

bar. And the last nugget I'm going to leave Mike

and Steve with before Mike takes over here is

we are going to start our countdown next time

with our 100. and our 99 spot being a top. We've

done that a couple times, so I'm ready. Yeah,

we have! So it's going to be fun right off the

get -go next time. It's even more fun for me

because I know what the two shows are, and it's

perfect. Mm -hmm, mm -hmm, mm -hmm. Yeah. Curses.
