Altered Geek
The Sound-Bar Volume Crackdown and Studio Shakeups

About this Episode
The consolidation of the media landscape just hit a whole new level of crazy! In Episode 467, host Steve "Megatron" Phillips and TFG1Mike react to the jaw-dropping news that Fox Corp. is acquiring Roku in a massive $22 billion deal. By purchasing the hardware and interface that sits in over 100 million households, Fox is quietly taking control of the screen menu you see every single day. We break down the billions in ad revenue, the mountain of new debt Fox is taking on, and the rumors that Netflix is looking to response by buying up Lionsgate’s massive library.
Closer to home, we discuss the ticking clock on the new U.S. State Volume Rule ban, which will legally force Netflix and Hulu to balance their audio feeds and put an end to those eardrum-shattering volume jumps between shows and ads. Plus, we celebrate the legendary music mogul Clive Davis passing away at 94, react to Mike Myers confirming that Austin Powers 4 is officially moving forward in development, and mark our geek calendars for the incredible Star Trek: The Next Generation cast reunion happening right now inside X-Men ’97 Season 2.

Hey, this is Steve Bloom, and you are listening
to the Geekcast Radio Network. Hello and welcome
to Altered Geek. I'm your host, Steve Megatron,
and joining me on this adventure into geekdom
is TFG1 Mike. yo you on the mic with mike no
yes what i had to yes so we're on the mic with
a mic hey look that's a that's a 31 year old
reference that probably no one is gonna get true
that true that uh you even get it no that's what
i said when i said bad boys bad boys I, uh, I
recently, uh, watched all four of them. Love
those movies. I haven't seen all of them at all.
Like I think I've seen bits and pieces. Oh no,
I, I, yeah, no. So that's, that's a whole journey
folks. So for the longest time, I think ever
since it was, no, it was 2011, 2011 was the very
first time I got anything from La La Land records,
a long time. uh collaborators that have sent
me stuff for the longest time now since 2011
2011 i got uh green lantern the animated series
and at that time when the series was still going
even though it only had one season uh i think
no green lantern i don't know i was looking But
the show that only had one season at the time,
Thundercats 2011, La La Land Records sent me
the scores for both of those cartoon shows at
the time in 2011. I just either cold tweeted
them or cold DM'd them on Twitter at the time.
And yes, folks, I am going to say Twitter because
in 2011 it was called Twitter. But it was one
of those things where I'm like, hmm, I wonder.
yada yada yada yada yada and uh been writing
soundtrack reviews for them ever since and the
reason why i bring up bad boys is because uh
i just finished up over the last couple of months
uh writing reviews for the 30th anniversary which
was last year uh for their bad boys soundtrack
and that they released and they released bad
boys one and two And I couldn't stop myself after
I watched the first two films and I wrote up
the soundtrack review score to the first one.
And I just couldn't stop after I watched the
second one, because even though I was taking
my notes for the review for the second film.
after I watched the second film for the second
time, cause I watched the movies twice to make
sure I didn't miss anything, even though I'm
not actively talking about the movies in the,
I talk about the movie a little bit, but the
main point is the music for me when I talk about
in, in the, in the, in the music review, but
I talk about the movie a little bit. And, uh,
so after the second, I'm watching the movie for
probably the first time since it's released 23
years ago. Yeah, 2003, 2026. Yeah, 23 years ago.
God, I was 23 years old when that film was released.
Anyway, I watched Bad Boys 2 twice, wrote up
the review, started writing up the review. I
should say, I should correct myself. I started
writing up the review. And then I proceeded to
watch the film five more times. No, dude, you're
a stand. No, I get it. There's been plenty of
shows that I've had that happen. So it's one
of those things where not only did I watch Bad
Boys 2 two times to start the review, I then
watched Bad Boys. uh for life which is the third
movie and then i watched bad boys ride or die
which is the fourth movie which i remember the
third movie because i i'd watched that when it
initially released i didn't remember a lot from
ride or die because i'd only seen it i think
maybe a half i only seen like half of it like
i didn't remember the back half i don't know
which half of it i didn't remember But after
I finished watching all four, I had to go back
to Bad Boys 2 because, you know, the audience
probably doesn't remember, but you'll know how
my brain works half the time. If it's not right
in front of me, I'll forget, just immediately
forget. So I'm like, okay, I got to watch this
again. So I'm watching it. I'm also listening
to the soundtrack, not at the same time, but
I'm listening to the soundtrack and I'm taking
my notes and I'm doing this and I'm doing that
and I'm writing the thing up and I'm writing
the thing up and everything else. And I'm like,
okay, okay, I got it. I got it. I got it. That
was after probably the, in total, I watched Bad
Boys 2 seven times in 2026. I think after the
fourth time is when I finished the review. And
then I watched it three times. And I'm like,
oh. But that movie, I just, I love that movie
so much because it's just so much fun. There
wasn't, for me personally, like, you know how
people will be like nitpicking, oh, the drug
dealer this, or oh, the drug dealer that, or
oh, they left this out, or oh, they did. I didn't.
It's not just because I love the movie. After
almost 18 years of us nitpicking the hell out
of stuff, trust me, there are plenty of things
I could nitpick or point out or find wrong with
something. There isn't a thing in that movie
that I can find wrong with it. Even turning off
my, oh my God, this is so fun brain kind of thing.
Seriously. No, I get it. I mean, there's been
plenty of shows recently where I've been experiencing
that too. So it is just so fun. And I don't like,
like I said, for me to, whether it's a podcast,
whether it's a written review, whatever it is,
I watch things twice. Like when we do our movie
reviews on studio 2009, when we do our TV show
reviews, whatever it is. while TV show reviews
are a little different, but when we do our movie
reviews, whether it's true 2009, whether it's
all things, transformers, whatever it is, I usually
watch the movie twice so I can get everything
and make sure I have all my notes and come prepared
and yada, yada, yada. So that way I'm, you know,
I don't forget anything and I have everything
written down and yeah, just every, everything
about that movie. I absolutely love it. So yeah.
So that's what I've been doing. What have you
been doing? I've been working on a new website.
A lot of the plugins there. A ton of stuff, like
a bunch of new features I'm super excited about,
to be honest. There'll be a new review stuff.
The geek meter will be more integrated without
having to put the image. that will actually integrate
with different posts and we'll be able to actually
we'll be able to tie it into like when we're
reviewing um uh like let's say we're on m wire
or studio 2009 or we're you know we're reviewing
a movie or reviewing a tv show or something like
multiple of us can actually give our rating and
it'll give an average oh cool between the hosts
um it's also got a spot for uh like topic hubs
uh it's got a spot for like collections so i'll
be able to do like top 100s or like different
breakdowns of uh of the voice actors uh there'll
be like a coming soon thing for like anticipated
films uh i i was going through it earlier and
i was like hmm what could i add to this well
because like i was like there's more functionality
i could do with this like besides just movies
it's like what if what if there was like you
know limited series that we're excited about
or anime or documentaries or you know specials
or tv series uh and then we can fill those out
and put the release dates in there and then it's
like a kind of like a countdown of them yeah
so like i have uh, for the coming soon, like
anticipated films. Like I have like, you know,
toy story five, um, you know, Spider -Man and
brain. Yeah. I would even sack me, uh, legend
of the white dragon, uh, Jumanji doomsday, you
know, uh, stuff like that. Uh, nightfall. Yeah.
Uh, so I can put all of those in there. And,
uh, the beautiful thing is we have this new,
uh, basically IMDB hookup in there you can also
have you can embed the trailers in it you can
it embeds a direct link to IMDB it allows for
discussion added the discussion piece recently
we've got like our different YouTube channel
stuff integrated the wars tournaments are there
like the the like the topic hubs it's kind of
an automated breakdown in a sense like i have
to create the overall individual sections but
it automatically ties content based on keywords
oh cool so based on the tags so like if let's
say i have you know transformers so it'll have
like a franchise tier you know say transformers
um And then you can end with like properties
instead. So like, you know, franchise would be
like DC comics. And then you have like a property
sub, you know, character or sub franchise of
it is like Batman. And then like titles, like
for transformers, you'll have beast wars or for
Star Trek, it'd be the next generation or so.
Then you're, you toggle those things and you
can actually review. like it'll say if we're
actively covering it it'll say how many articles
how many collections how many podcast episodes
uh some of it's a little wonky as far as the
podcast episodes like just because it if you
tag certain things it'll tag those like a lot
of it like if i tag all things transformers it's
going to pull everything from all things transformers
so yeah um yeah but it'll show you like links
to the podcast you can play those you can see
the articles you can you know toggle between
them so like You can search articles. You can
search podcasts. You can see which ones are active
and concluded very easily. You can see who the
hosts are. It automates from the RSS feed. So
as it updates, it updates on the site. It pulls
the artwork. It's very lightweight. So yeah,
I'm super excited for this. And then coming soon,
as things drop off, it auto updates on the homepage
like if the date passes it moves right up to
the next things on the list and it shows like
the next you know the total of five and I can
do that for like TV shows I can do it for whatever
I just added the TV show feature so I'm looking
forward to playing around with that but we're
essentially going back to our old theme very
cool but it's but it's fast Uh, I've, I've also
brought back old articles from way back when
that were wiped out. Um, some of which I had
draft because a lot of stuff's broken, uh, content
still there. Yeah. I'm kind of like, well, let's,
let's see where it goes, you know? And then,
um, so yeah, I'm, I'm super excited to see how
this, how this plays out. Uh, the new site, I,
think that it's going to be very nimble on on
that front uh it will automatically like if you're
listening to a podcast episode your device that
you're listening on if you go back to that post
and you go to listen to it on the website it
will remember where you were at oh cool that's
never happened before yeah it won't follow you
across the site so you're like clicking around
and stuff it's not gonna like do that yeah But
yeah. So. Yeah. So, I mean, I'm super excited
about how this is all going to. How it's all
going to work. But it's I'm super excited for
it. A lot of awesome stuff coming down the pipe.
Very cool. Very cool. I think without a further
ado, let's get into our topics of the night.
Yeah, we start out with puke. puke yep what's
puke box puke there's a puke face next to fox
don't pay attention to that you're the one who
put it there i know i copied and pasted it uh
my god box is paying 22 billion for roku uh the
company who's uh you know has the streaming stick
smart tv software basically a menu screen for
100 million households. They're essentially,
since they've offloaded all of their content
and Hulu, they want to own a network that houses
it without actually having to create it. So they're
essentially owning the engine on which it shall
be played all akin to a YouTube. doing none of
the work but porting it in uh so they're they're
taking on this 8 .3 billion in debt uh and then
like a bridge loan of 12 billion to pay this
uh 22 billion so uh for now to be in the roku
channel will keep operating as separate brands
although that probably won't last so at some
point one of them will fold into the other uh
because it seems like fox owns both yes uh i
thought and forgive me if i'm wrong but i thought
uh thought paramount owned it but apparently
it's not yeah it's it is owned by fox they bought
it in 2020 though 440 million yeah so honestly
i i actually like to be more than i like a lot
of these other streaming platforms even though
there's ads like it's not like annoying yep and
there's a ton of stuff yep and they don't seem
to lose licenses a lot no because it's all ad
supported they're like I get my kickback I don't
care you know so it I do find this funny though
that they sold you know Hulu and all their other
streaming stuff to Disney back in you know 2019
or whatever and then continued on through but
It'll be interesting. I'm not a fan of Roku.
I think their interface is kind of crap, and
I don't like having to own the streaming stick
or any of that stuff. I like just being able
to access a website or have an app. That being
said, I don't dislike the idea, because if nothing
else, if we get a 2B out of it, an overarching
2B instead of Roku, they won't get rid of the
brand equity of Roku. uh i so i sadly i see roku
absorbing 2b or at least having 2b as a channel
in roku yeah um so it may not totally you know
splice together but we'll we'll see yeah it's
gonna be interesting because i've had a i've
mentioned this on the show before i've had a
55 inch sharp 4k HDTV since 2018. And that is
a Roku TV. So I have Roku built into my TV. I
think I've used the Roku function on that TV
exactly twice in almost eight years. And that
was for roku exclusive content that i couldn't
see anywhere else that was like a limited series
thing i don't use roku whatsoever maybe i need
to investigate it more or something i don't know
but i mean as long as again i i say this all
the time just like I've said, which there's nothing
I can do about it now because Amazon's already,
I'm not going to get on the soapbox, but Amazon
done already screwed it up anyway with comiXology.
But if Fox does absorb Tubi, as long as they
don't mess up the Tubi, well, wait, don't they
already own them? Doesn't, yeah. Fox bought Tubi
back in 2020. Okay, so that's not a... Okay,
it's Roku. Oh, crap. So if Fox just... Okay,
so... Okay, so Fox is buying Roku. Okay. Yeah.
Yeah, no. That's... If Fox buys Roku, they buy
Roku. Maybe they'll improve it. I don't know.
Maybe I, maybe I'll go on my TV and, and explore
some more and report back next episode. But Fox
didn't really change any. I didn't notice a difference
between to be before Fox bought them versus what
to be is now. And the main thing I was going
to say there was as long as the website didn't
change kind of thing, but I couldn't tell you
what, what Roku changes would be because I'm
trying to attention to Roku. So, but, uh, and
Hey, look, Fox incurring more debt, incurring
more debt since 1989 when they launched or 1980,
whenever it was. Yeah, so we'll see what happens,
but they definitely want to own the menu more
than so they can collect it. They want to be
the real estate. They don't want to actually
produce anything. They just want to own where
it sits. They want the front lawn. They don't
care about the rest of it. anyhow there are rumors
now like there hasn't been since Netflix was
trying to buy Warner Brothers now that there's
there was rumors after that fell through that
they wanted to buy Disney which I'm still thinking
that's going to be the direction things go eventually
2029 2029 let's see let's see if it works there
was rumors going around that they're going to
buy Lionsgate and some report floated that the
streamer you know was interested but no formal
offer and then netflix insists that they aren't
interested and then of course every time there's
a you know thought about it that the the shares
jump lions gate's one of the few legacy studios
still standing yep which quite honestly surprising
which goes to show you though because they don't
they do kind of a wild mix of different stuff
I think they were the ones responsible for the
Saw movies, the Hunger Games, the Twilight films.
They do a lot of Christian films. They kind of
go all over the place, which I think is to their
benefit because they don't really have tent poles
the way that Disney does. Disney and Sony and
some of these other ones have that kind of they
back themselves into a corner of like we have
to make a billion dollars per film or it's not
worth it whereas Liongate's like eh as long as
we break even or we you know we can create something
out of it you know some of them will be winners
some of them won't but we're going to pump out
movies and to that degree I appreciate it I don't
think that Netflix is going to buy them. I think
this is just I think it's a media nothing burger.
Yeah, but probably I feel like it's also to like.
Wink, wink, like build the shares, guys, start
floating ideas of stuff that we're going to buy
and then people will buy the stock more. Yeah,
there's that. And then there's the whole thing
of. We're Netflix. Oh, my God. Unless we're in
the news, we're nothing. Like, it's one of those
things where unless you're because you're so
big, unless you're in the news. Oh, my God. Unless
we're talked about. Like, look, look at me. Look
at me. Look at me. Like, oh, my God. Shut up,
Netflix. I do find that this part's funny, though.
Like years ago, years ago, NBC wasn't doing so
hot. Universal wasn't doing so hot. Yeah. Comcast
bought them. Yes. And merged them. Yes. And unlike
everything that's happened with like Warner Brothers
or Warner Brothers Discovery or Time Warner,
you know, AOL. I'm going to do that one since
it's on the same wavelength. The same wavelength.
OK. I do find it funny that. Comcast is, you
know, how Warner Brothers Discovery split themselves
apart, which honestly they were in huge debt
regardless. Anyway, both companies. Yeah, I think
what's going on here is. The media industry,
for one, is kind of unwinding like their previous
strategy of these large conglomerate empire of,
you know, TV and movie studios. I also think
that Comcast is like, what do we do? Well, yeah,
we build companies. So they rebuilt, you know,
Universal and NBC combined them, NBC, Universal,
their one company with Comcast. and then they're
going to split them off now. They're going to
separate them. But the thing that they did that
these other companies failed to do with Warner
Brothers and with all these other studios is
to send them on their way as a profitable venture.
True, yeah. They didn't poison the well and steal
from it. If anything, I think NBC and Universal
were staying afloat by Comcast subscribers. absolutely
and so like they are profitable i just think
that comcast is kind of like okay we've we've
experimented in this well we've done it well
we've you know got them very positioned as a
high acquisition target uh and they've created
this you know this all -in -one media thing but
they don't want to they basically don't want
to own both sides of it because they have the
cable they have the broadband they have you know,
the streaming they have. I feel like they're
they're kind of like we have too much in our
well right now. We need to. Yeah, float it before
like we all poison each other. Back the dump
truck up somewhere. Yeah, so. It's I feel like
this could mean. It could be a good thing for
like, you know, Universal Studios and like all
of the stuff that NBC and Universal own. I feel
like it could be an opportunity to allow them
to stand on their own two feet again and be one
of the legacy studios and not be owned by somebody
else. There's also rumors that Sony may be trying
to put their hand in the well, but they already
own like Columbia. And then do they own somebody
else or is it just Columbia? It's Columbia TriStar.
It's Sony owns. Oh, God. They own a number of
studios. All right. Sony is not going to do so
hot either because they're taking off their entire
fan base by dumping discs. Yeah, we're going
to talk about that later. Yeah, I know. I'm just
I'm just saying, like, I feel like they're not
going to be a strong contender for this. I don't
see. I honestly think the Netflix will hold out
and then buy Disney. I honestly think that that's
where we're headed. I don't I don't think that
they're going to buy anybody else. I feel like
it's going to be one of these things where they
kind of dip their toe in the water of like, oh,
let's toy with this and see what happens. But.
It's it really is funny with all these different
conglomerates trying to come out of the woodwork,
you know, Skydance, you know, buying CBS Paramount
after CBS and Paramount re -merged after their
split and then. Skydance buying them and now
they want to buy you know and are supposed to
buy Warner Brothers which Warner Brothers has
passed around like a bad ex that you know can't
get rid of that even though their content library
is you know they have a lot of great franchises
in it it's just that nobody knows what to do
with it it's like we got this shiny thing but
we don't know what to do with it when we get
it but we'll take all the debt and we'll push
it off to them and then we'll sell them You know,
it's kind of like everybody's screwing Warner
Brothers. And it seems like it's always been
that way. Yeah, it pretty much has. So I'm hoping
that NBCUniversal stays away from being a purchased
company. Oh, man. legendary entertainment uh
november 28 2022 is announced legendary entertainment
reached a distribution deal with sony sony owns
sony's like disney they're like they're like
everything they just they gobble up everything
they're like a turkey a peacock that's not that's
not anyways yeah i still think it's great that
comcast is gonna split them off so that they've
got their tech company and then uh you know yeah
into two public companies you know you have comcast
going independent from nbc universal and then
both of them are going to be you know more strategic
more focused more agile and just just be a better
thing overall uh yeah because i mean it never
made sense to because Just never made any sense
to me to have it be Comcast NBC universal. Like
it, like, like you just said, Comcast is basically
here's where you get your cable internet phone
service. And then NBC universal is the, this
is where you watch all that crap. you know and
there's nothing that says that they won't still
work together it's just that right right yeah
yeah well and they're saying that comcast track
record and their proposed separation reflects
kind of their uh ability to compete and win in
rapidly changing markets and so uh they believe
that this will allow each company which will
stay public to pursue its own strategy and priorities
and invest in growth and create better shareholder
value as independent companies rather than as
one and so i i know that it's a money thing and
it's a transactional thing but it's a one it's
a tax -free spinoff to comcast shareholders and
it will happen within a year uh but the other
thing is is that uh it will allow each one to
kind of have a significant financial boost by
separating. So I think it's a good thing. It
is. Yeah, it is all, it is all of that. It is
a good thing. It's also what's keeping them in
business and what keeps them in business is also
good for their customers because heaven forbid,
if Comcast specifically NBC universal, I'm sure.
Like we've been saying about Sony and Disney
and I'm sure anyone could have, you know, somebody
would come along and buy up NBC. But Comcast
specifically, like, you know how many and I guarantee
you, as soon as I say this, I guarantee you,
if I go on Facebook after the podcast, I guarantee
you I'm going to get some. Would you like Internet
service from this no name company you've never
heard of? I guarantee you, as soon as I say this.
If Comcast goes away, I don't know of any other
internet service provider in my area other than
whatever ad I got served on Facebook a month
ago saying, here, try this logo. And I don't
even know how I got that ad because I wasn't
looking like I don't go out and I'm not one of
these people that like, I've been a loyal Comcast
customer for years. I've never. never gone and
tried to find another internet service providing
company because honestly they're the conglomerate
they're like it would be different if i moved
to a place where there wasn't comcast like if
if i moved to a town where comcast didn't have
the market share in that town like you know i
don't know wherever but uh you know i don't know
again they're doing this not only for it being
good for the company but i also think it's good
for the customer so there you go 100 agree with
you yep yep and uh from the uh the good business
deals with comcast and nbc universal to some
sad This was back in June of this year. We lost
a music mogul with a golden ear for talent. So
Clive Davis, he died at 94. This man basically...
Clive Davis, the hands -on hitmaker with the
golden ear who brought us talent such as Janis
Joplin, Whitney Houston. And Bruce Springsteen
to the world, revitalized the careers of Carlos
Santana, Rod Stewart, and Aretha Franklin. Died
back in June, he was 94. He was most recently
the chief creative officer of Sony Music Entertainment,
speaking of Sony. Former head of labels Columbia,
Arista Records, and J Records, and a member of
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He died at his
home in Manhattan. The rep announced he recently
had been hospitalized with an upper respiratory
infection. Through his six -decade career, the
man was in music for 60 years. The music mogul
also nurtured such acts as Billy Joel, The Grateful
Dead, Alicia Keys, Simon & Garfunkel, Jennifer
Hudson, Barry Manilow, Pink Floyd, Earth, Wind
& Fire. Get it, folks. Aerosmith. Kenny G, Christina
Aguilera, etc., etc. One said that Davis has
a weakness for the unique performer. Davis was
the recipient of five Grammys, including the
Recording Academy's Trustees Award in 2000. Each
year on the Saturday night before the Grammys
since 1976, he brought together top music executives
and artists for a party held at the Beverly Hills.
When the event was in LA, the 2021 edition was
online because of the pandemic. Talking about
his ability to identify talent, Davis told Playboy
magazine in 2013, I didn't necessarily have an
ear, but I think I developed one. Whether there
was a natural ear that was triggered, I don't
know the answer to that. But when you see a Joplin
or a Springsteen, you know. And the statistics
start and... And the statistics start mounting
and give you confidence. You think, my God, yeah,
I did say yes to Santana. This man, like I just
read in this article, six decades in music, and
all of the artists I mentioned, all hitmakers,
all, like, multi -million selling records. Artists.
Just simply amazing. Just, I mean, just wow.
Just what a career. And he was an amazing person
and he will be missed. and then go to a really
weird story. And I don't know if you watch the
YouTube video. So the way I, the way I put this
in the show notes, folks, NYC empire state buildings,
uh, get scaled the real story, but wait, here's
the TV version. So the TV version, I don't know
if you watch that. That was a YouTube video of
a, of a TV show that I love called white collar.
Uh, when this news story came out, I'm like,
wait a minute. Why are people trying to be like
Neil and Sarah from White Collar? Nobody knew
what this was at the time. They weren't sure
if it was, oh, my God, is this going to be another
9 -11? Heaven forbid, yada, yada, yada, yada,
yada. And for those that don't know. You can
technically go to the 102nd story of the Empire
State Building. There is an observation deck
up there. There is a 103rd story, but you're
not supposed to be up there. You're really not.
It's technically off limits, but there are those
people that do try to get up there, and that's
what this was, apparently. And yeah, so what
nobody knew what this was, because at first when
this happened, all his people saw was the was
the flag thing that says. When the power of love
beats the love of power. The world knows peace,
which is a quote that I believe is usually attributed
to Jimi Hendrix. that's all that people saw at
first people didn't know what it was and it turns
out what it was was these sky people whatever
i there's a documentary supposedly on netflix
of all places uh about these people who do these
daredevil things it was this couple who the the
guy proposed to the girl and They're facing all
kinds of charges, though, because there's just
certain things you're not supposed to do, even
if you are daredevils. And especially in New
York City. You do not, especially after September
11th, 2001, you just don't do this stuff. They
ended up getting arrested and all this and all
that. But, like... In 2026, I mean, even if you
have a Netflix show, even if you have all this,
even if it was just a stunt, even if you actually
did, which I know that he did propose to her
because it shows in the pictures and whatever.
I was like, oh my God, people, come on. Like,
really? Seriously? And then there's the cool
down. You want to talk about the cool down? They're
not cool down. Countdown. No, wait a minute.
What is this? Hold on. The volume final countdown.
Yeah. No, shut up. Don't mention that. Let's
get out of here. What's wrong with you? Oh, give
you the that streaming services like Netflix
will be required to maintain the same volume
for commercials and programs under a new state
law in California. Yeah. it's streaming services
it says netflix in this one but it mentions uh
netflix and hulu specifically but it says streaming
services starting july 1st uh we're required
to keep commercial volumes at the same level
as a regular tv show which is awesome uh no more
of like the the back in the day in like the 90s
and 2000s where they're you know you're like
uh watching a cartoon and then it gets like super
low after the fact you know yeah yeah uh So,
yeah, I'm I think that that's I think that's
awesome. They should have done that a long time
ago. And honestly, I hope that the rest of the
states follow suit in this because it really
is annoying. And I'm not a big fan of a lot of
California's like lawmaking or their governor
for his lawmaking. But this particular instance,
I have to agree. because there's no reason why
i mean we're in the almost 2030 and we're dealing
with this still like uh this is this is the first
time that this you know the commercial volume
regulations you know it's not been a subject
since 2010 and it really didn't cover streaming
platforms so i hope that i hope that this you
know trickles downhill there's definitely going
to be a lot of lawmaking based on a lot of technology
coming down the pipe for various things this
is just the tip of the iceberg yes yes it is
the funny thing when you sent me this i'm like
oh my god i wish this would apply to youtube
as far as a certain show i watch on youtube now
i pay for youtube premium so i'm not worried
about ads on there but i don't know what it is
but the film production company film rise which
does all the true crime stuff they have or they
own or they produce or whatever they're the company
behind forensic files Now, Forensic Files has
been off the air for years. The original show
only had four, I say only, but the original show
had 14 seasons. Now, within those 14 seasons,
I can guarantee you almost every season has at
least out of... maybe 10 episodes per 22 or 30
or 40 episodes of the season. Cause some seasons
have 22. Some have it varied, uh, out of those
14 seasons there, the volume on that show. That
is the, I give that show out of any, I dare anyone.
I triple dog. Dare anyone listening to the sound
of my voice to find another. show in television
history in the history of television that has
the worst volume control on it and oh my god
like i love the show to death it's not the show
it's not the content of the show that i don't
like love all that but the volume like i have
to constantly figure out the volume control because
either it's on 12 or 13 and it's fine Oh, some
episodes I have to put it at 26 to hear the narrator's
voice. And I don't, and I don't hear the, the
people's voices or I have to put it all the way
down to, it is so weird, but yeah, no, this,
this, the, the, the commercial volume thing.
Oh my God. Yeah. Commercials should all be volume
leveled perfectly. No one should have a blasting
commercial at you. agreed no not at all and then
uh coming out of nerdist which ever since hardwick
left them years ago i didn't think nerdist was
still around the x -men 97 season 2 which is
out now on disney plus uh brings in several star
trek tng actors so we got gates mcfadden and
uh first episode days of the past future cyclops
jean gray follow which I will say like you can't
tell that Gates McFadden is the mother Ascani
Rachel Summers. Yeah, I mean, I've been watching
the season today and. I have to say I'm pleasantly
impressed with this season and enjoying it more
than I did season one. I'm glad that it got this
season, too. I just wish that it was less time
in between for the short amount of episode runs
that we get. uh michael dorn played uh the short
-lived bail uh i heard his voice right away yeah
there's no there's no mistaking michael dorn
no uh and then i just was thinking about it even
more recently because of uh the gargoyles clip
i used for the top 100 yeah um and then uh i
heard john delancey as pharaoh rama tut or Kang
the Conqueror which will be interesting because
Kang the Conqueror is trying to wipe out Apocalypse
and I think it's kind of apropos and fitting
that John Delancey is playing Ramatut or you
know Kang because obviously he played the omnipotent
Q and I love how they channel his actual face
into his character. Yeah, that was crazy. I don't
know. I love any time John Delancey shows up,
so I think it's awesome because he's playing
another godlike being. So I don't know. I thought
it was kind of cool. They could definitely do
like a TNG season eight if they did animated,
but. with all these actors, but they would be
kind of stupid at this point. But I still would
watch it. Of course. I don't know. I think it's
cool that these people showed up in X -Men 97.
And for those that haven't watched, there's been
a clip circulating that they changed the intro
for one episode. Yep. Just for funsies. And it
was epic. Yeah. Yeah, I'm super excited by this
series. So I definitely would impress upon people
to check it out. Absolutely, absolutely. All
right, folks. Up next, we got... We got the smartphone
stuff. We got smart. And look, I remember the
days when we actually used to be able to take
batteries out of smartphones without them exploding
on planes. Whoops. Too soon. Smartphones must
have user replaceable batteries by 2027, but
not your iPhone. Here's why. Back in 2023, the
European Commission voted on a directive that
basically said that from 2027 onward, the portable
electronic devices must have usable, replaceable
batteries. This piece of news was quickly forgotten.
But as the deadline draws near, suddenly smartphones
with removable batteries are a hot topic again.
The legislation comes into effect in February
of 2027, and there are some very important caveats
that we need to point out. So, firstly, the EU
legislation concerns only the devices sold in
the European Union. It has no power in the US
or outside the EU. However, this doesn't mean
it won't affect the electronics worldwide. Changing
the overall design of a smartphone or tablet
to accommodate this legislation is not simple,
and having two separate manufacturing processes
might end up more expensive than implementing
the change in all regions. That said, companies
could still tweak different factories to comply
with the requirements for different markets.
We've seen this with Chinese phones. and different
battery capacities for local and global markets.
Okay, so what exactly does the legislation say?
The European Commission passed a whole bunch
of new rules containing the terms and usual government
language, but the most important are the requirements.
for portable batteries to be readily removable.
Here's how the EC defines a portable battery.
Portable battery means a battery that is sealed,
weighs 5 kilograms or less, and is not designed
specifically for an industrial use and is neither
an electric vehicle battery, an LMT, like a transportation
battery, or a starting lighting and ignition
battery. So yeah, portable batteries shall be
considered readily removable by the end user
where it can be removed from a product for the
use of commercially available tools without requiring
the use of specialized tools unless provided
free of charge with the product proprietary tools.
thermal energy uh or solvents to disassemble
the product oh that's what is the mandatory requirements
for the portable battery to be readily removable
um so yeah like we were they they're gonna go
back to being able to remove our own batteries
again i i love it i i think that's great um yeah
no absolutely i mostly because i remember the
days when uh for instance i have a pixel 6a the
battery is turning to crap little by little and
honestly there's nothing wrong with these old
phones and this this kind of falls into that
right to repair thing yep um we're dealing with
these companies that are like just throw it away
just throw it away like it's like why are we
why are we creating so much digital waste like
what what is the absolute point of having so
much of this crap like i don't need it would
it be convenient to have the latest and greatest
phone yes would the hardware be great absolutely
you know they're coming out with the the pixel
11 suit and the iphone 18 and you know the razor
ultra and you know the galaxy z like i i as much
as i would love to have these things i don't
need them i would much rather have the ability
to replace just the battery because usually that's
the thing that craps out first on any of these
phones is the battery yep and it's it's funny
that you know The legislation for the EU only
concerns the devices sold there. And it has no
power in the US or outside of the EU. But logistically,
I can't see all of these phone makers creating
different versions for different regions. I mean,
they do to some extent for the satellite information.
But I feel like that's going to trickle down
here as well. And I honestly hope it does because
I would upgrade my phone strictly to have the
ability to change out. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't
see iPhones changing. Yeah. How they are, how
they do it. But I could see Android devices.
And honestly, I would switch from a pixel to
a Motorola if that was the difference. I love
my pixel phone. I don't love the price. Like
I could buy a Motorola. I can buy a brand new
2026 Motorola, you know, edge phone or whatever
for like 200 bucks. I can get the pixel, whatever,
you know, the current version is of the a for
like 400 and I can get the full version of whatever
it is for like eight to 900. And then I can get
the, you know, the ultra or the pro or whatever.
uh for you know like 12 i i still have like i
said my 6a my wife has a pixel 9 because her
6a like the battery turned to crap which is the
only reason she got rid of it yeah um but i i
think that this is awesome and i think it needs
to trickle downhill so that we can go back to
that because my last phone that i could do this
with that i owned i know that other ones did
it since still works like my kid still uses it
i just replaced the battery for like 10 bucks
so yeah i think this needs to be i wish this
wasn't just an eu thing i wish this was a global
thing i wish that like like yeah just no like
If the battery is the only thing that is wrong
with the phone, if the screen's not cracked,
if the phone isn't being warped, and I watch
all kinds of tech reviewers. I've mentioned many
times on here, MKBHD, Marques Brownlee. I've
mentioned on here, Mr. Who's the Boss. I've mentioned
on here, Michael Fisher, Mr. Mobile. I've mentioned
other people. But those are the mains that I
watch all the time. And I've watched. mr who's
the boss i've watched him do uh i've watched
them all do this but i've watched him do like
intense battery testing and i know other people
may be listening to this and say oh what about
um what about jury rig everything jury rig everything
or jerry rig everything uh that guy does like
extreme like his battery tests are legendary
his testing is legendary i don't know if you
ever watched his channel uh but uh i've watched
mr who's the boss do battery testing with heat
with this with that whatever and i don't ever
want to do i don't want to have my phone go through
like i don't even like I make sure my phone doesn't
get wet. I make sure my phone doesn't go through
extreme. I make sure I don't go through extreme
heat, let alone my phone. If my apartment is
not seriously, if my apartment isn't at 69 degrees
or below, then it's too hot in here. If my, if
my apartment gets above 71 degrees, it's too
hot in here. Like, no, just no. But if something
did happen to the battery or if something did
happen to my phone, then, you know, specifically
the battery, like we're talking about, like,
yeah, sure. If, you know, I think I shouldn't
have to, because here's the thing. I did, my
phone, when I upgraded from the 6 Pro to the
7 Pro, because something did happen to my phone,
it was the screen, it was not the battery. The
screen did, because I originally, when I went
from Samsung to Google in 2021, right after Karen
died, I got, so I had 2024, I think, is when
I had the, when I had to get the upgrade. 2024,
the Pixel 6 Pro died. So I had that phone for.
Three years, I think. I think that's the math
on that. So something happened to the screen.
I had to go through all this stuff with the insurance,
with the assurance or whatever phone insurance
that I had on it through Xfinity. Because that's
the interesting and cool thing about most of
these carriers or whatever, at least Xfinity.
I'm paying for mobile insurance through them,
obviously. I went through the insurance and whatever
else, but what if I could just buy a battery
from Google and have it mailed to me? It would
still probably take some time, but I still had
to, either way, I'm going to have to wait. Like
this isn't like instant transporter technology
where, oh, you bought a battery from us. We'll,
we'll put it on the transport pad and it'll be
transported to you instantaneously. It doesn't
matter. You're going to have to wait regardless,
I guess is my point. So I still had to wait for
that to arrive for a new phone. So even if I
have the right to repair my own phone, I'm still
going to have to wait. But at least I could install
the battery myself. Or, you know, I don't know.
It is what it is. But yeah, no, absolutely. We
should at least have the option to be able to
do it ourselves like we did 30 years ago. In
the late 90s with the Nokia 5120. Snake, we miss
you. And I'm not talking about you, David Hader.
Well, I thought it was funny, too. I saw a YouTube
video or maybe it was a real. I don't know. It
was showing the status of phones. Like where
they drop the Nokia phone and like it put a big
dent in the pavement. And then they picked it
up and just dusted it off. and made a phone call
and then they you know and that was for like
2000 and then for 2010 it shows uh dropping uh
the phone on the ground and all of the components
and the battery popped out and the back case
popped off you know for the cell phone you know
like how they would fall apart like they didn't
shatter they just fell apart uh and then you
just put it all back together then they show
2020 and then you drop your phone and then the
screen shatters And then they showed 2030 and
then the phone you drop it and it turns into
it does like the Infinity War thing where it
just like fades into dust. Oh, boy. And I was
just laughing because I was like, it's kind of
true. Like the old stuff was made so much better.
Like you could throw it on the ground and it
would you could pick it back up and be like,
all right, I'm still running. Running and running
and running and running. Oh, boy. All right.
So we got the. Kind of, sort of, reunion of the
Sandlot cast, but Patrick Renna is bringing the
gang back together. He and many of the original
cast members from the Sandlot are re -teaming
on a new comedy series from Renna Kyle Howard
to be produced through their Rodco Hambino Media.
The series marks the first official reunion of
the original cast since the release of the 1993
coming -of -age sports film then three decades
ago, Dugout Dads. We'll star Renna with appearances
across the season from Tom Gury, Chauncey Leopard,
Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Quinton Adams,
and more. Of course, Danielle Fishel from Boy
Meets World will also star as Renna's wife. So
Dugout Dads is basically a new sports comedy
series that's coming out. Looks kind of cool.
In Dugout Dads, when an idealist dad, Renna,
volunteers to coach his kid's Little League team,
he discovers that the most unruly players on
the field aren't the 10 -year -olds. They are
the other coaches, parents, and sometimes himself.
Throughout the season, Coach Patrick finds himself
constantly at odds with his own advice to the
kids. Baseball is supposed to be fun. All the
characters in the series are original and not
related to the Sandlot. So, very cool. Looks
fun. yeah it could be interesting i'll uh probably
check it out just to see what what it's about
especially with the uh the fact that i've i've
burned through all of my tv shows recently absolutely
absolutely yeah no like like i said when i first
saw this i was like hey wait a minute because
you know headlines like uh uh patrick ran out
to reunite with sandlot cast on new comedy dugout
dads i was like i wonder because i'm like wait
a minute i was like my wonder and i was like
wait a minute are you telling me they're coming
back as the actual and then i read it i was like
oh no but that could still be cool that could
be fun because again so i recently I don't know
how I see some of the things I see on Facebook,
but I do. I just don't know how these things
are served up to me. Sometimes, sometimes it's
peep. Sometimes it's friends commenting on posts
that I would never normally see unless they commented
on them. Cause I don't follow the pages they
follow, but it's like, somebody was like, Oh,
what TV show do you think needs to be a reboot
rebooted now or rebooted again or reboot? And,
um, I put in all caps, uh, something about none
of them or something. I forget what it was. And
I'm like, we need new stuff for, for this generation.
This generation needs to lick. We grew up with
all the stuff that we now know, like, uh, whatever.
Anyway. All right, next up we got, let's see,
Every Big Bang Theory. This is coming from TV
Line. Every Big Bang Theory actor who will appear
in Stuart fails to save the universe. Obviously,
Kevin Sussman as Stuart, so he is the lead here.
You got Lauren Lapkus as a series regular. She
is Denise. She was introduced. In Season 11,
The Comet Polarization. Ryan Posain, who is...
What was his name? Oh, Bert Kibler. So he is
a series regular. John Ross Bowie, who is Crib
Key. He's going to be on the series. For some
odd reason, Christine Baranski is going to be
on the show. I don't know why. She was introduced
in season two's The Maternal Capacitance. As
Beverly, she appeared in 16 episodes across the
nine of the sitcom's 12 seasons. For Stuart Fails
to Save the Universe, Baranski returns to the
franchise. Whether she's reprising Beverly or
playing an alternate universe version of the
character or something else entirely remains
under wraps. Josh Reiner first appeared on The
Big Bang Theory in Season 5's The Flaming Spatula
acquisition as Comic Center employee Dale. So
there's that guy. Ryan Cartwright made his first
and only appearance on The Big Bang Theory in
Season 6's The 43. something or other, playing
Penny's community college classmate, Cole. He
returns to the franchise, and Stewart fails to
save the universe, this time as an entirely new
character. Okay. Oh boy. Penn Jillette will return.
Jillette returns to the franchise, this time
seemingly playing himself in one of the series'
post -apocalyptic alternate realities. Of course,
he's going to play himself. I don't think he
would play anybody else. Ricky Lindholm made
her Big Bang Theory debut in Season 2's Cooper
Nowitzki theorem. In the trailer for Stuart Fells
Save the Universe, she returns to the franchise
again, whether she's reprising Ramona or playing
an alternate universe version of the character,
or something else is entirely... Up to whatever.
Joshua Walina first appeared on Big Bang as the
oft -mentioned President Siebert. So we don't
know if President Siebert is going to be... Oh,
wait a minute. He serves the franchise seemingly
as a member of the United States Army. The full
extent of his role remains under wraps. And then
Teller, I'm assuming Teller is going to... appear
as himself just like pad why wouldn't he and
then we have mr star trek himself sheldon's mortal
enemy which is the last one no he was he was
i know but he's a weenie oh my god but anyway
him and him and takai are just whiners i i can't
stand either one of them so what oh well both
of them both of them complain and try and rage
bait other actors and stuff they were trying
to like do that to the rock recently and i'm
like dude just leave him alone okay but it's
like they it's like those two like fight for
relevance okay but in the context of the big
bang theory he was sheldon oh yeah okay That's
fine. I'm just putting it into context of the
Big Bang Theory universe. At the time, he was
Sheldon's mortal enemy. As revealed in the HBO
Max sizzle reel, Wheaton resurfaces and Stewart
fails to save the universe. He appears inside
Stewart's comic book store, seemingly firing
an energy blast at Stewart and Krimke, suggesting
he is some sort of wizard. or at least hails
from one of the show's more magical alternate
realities. I am really interested about this
show. I'm really digging it. I think it's fun.
I think it's interesting, especially after all
of the seasons of Young Sheldon that we've had,
especially after the two seasons of Georgie and
Mandy's first marriage that we've had. I'm interested
to see how fun this is going to be. So this is
I'm I'm on board. It's 10 episode season. It
looks like. Yeah. It's not bad. It's not bad.
I mean, it's better than the six and eight episode
stuff. We should at least get back to 13. Oh,
well, we're going to talk about. Some episode
numbers here in a minute. I have the vibe that
this is going to get canceled. Steve Megatron's
calling it now, folks. He's already calling for
Stewart's cancellation. I think it'll make it
season at this season. It might hit a second.
I think people will give this one a shot just
because of its attachment to Big Bang Theory.
I think it'll get canceled before the end of
the second season. It'll be like a... I think
it'll be like Starfleet Academy, but more fun.
Yeah. And honestly, when I watched the trailer,
because I didn't see the HBO Max sizzle reel.
I only saw the actual trailer that was on YouTube.
I think I sent you the trailer. I don't know.
Whatever. Anyway, the point is, when I watched
the trailer, I was like, okay, I'm interested.
I think this could be fun. But I don't think
like. These are all side characters from the
Big Bang Theory. So my theory and the reason
I say it's going to get canceled is exactly your
point. They're all side characters that ultimately
in the grand scheme of the Big Bang Theory didn't
matter. They were just filler characters other
than possibly Stewart. And then Kripke and Wheat.
Because they had more of a profound part between
the comic book store, between the irritation
to Sheldon. The other ones just were there. And
the other nail in the coffin, I believe, for
this is going to be the fact that you have to
have HBO Max. And I don't see people just signing
up to watch this. Yeah. So if it was on cable
or if it was on like a Netflix or a Hulu, I could
see it for sure going somewhere. But because
it's paywalled and it's all tertiary characters,
it's going to flop hard. It's going to be that.
That's the same reason, like why a lot of these
other revivals or continuations or other programs
keep flopping is because like they're either
behind a paywall. They're poorly done. They're
with characters nobody knows. They don't follow
the mythos of whatever they came from. Like it.
Yeah. So I think it's going to flop. I think
it'll be by the second season at most. And the
sad thing is, is that when I watched the trailer.
The first thing I thought of all time, I was
watching it and I blame you. I'm like. this is
just dimension hopping idiocracy. Yep. Which
is, I honestly, I don't want it. I mean, again,
I, I don't know. Like they did something interesting
with Sheldon. They took him younger. They showed
all the stories that we ever heard about Sheldon
and Meemaw and Sheldon's mom and Texas over the
12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory. All those
stories and whatever, whatever, whatever. They
took us back and they showed us that. They then
took us to, okay, here's Sheldon's older brother.
Sheldon's older older brother him and his wife
yada yada yada and I think that's okay that's
fine I actually like Georgie and Mandy's first
marriage I think it's a good show I because again
it's within that yeah that range you're invested
with those yeah exactly because they came directly
from young Sheldon right and you still see young
Sheldon on Georgie and Mandy uh so that's fine
but i think at this point and i don't i really
don't want to say this but i think they i don't
know i i'm not looking at this up directly i'll
have to look it up later or something or other
i don't know if it's chuck lorry still doing
all of this it is i don't it is yep Are you factually
Big Bang Theory? Yeah, I know who he is. I just
wasn't sure. You know how things happen if, you
know, passes it off or whatever. Wasn't sure.
But. But, yeah, no. Hey, as long as it's still
him doing it, that's fine. But I think at this
point, maybe he should. Move on to something
else. Like, just... Yep, it is. Like... What
the hell? Oh, okay. Yeah, it is still him. Okay,
well... Chuck, buddy? I don't know. Yeah, what's
up, Chuck? I don't know. I just don't know there,
because yikes. But yeah, so that's that. Speaking
of other TV things that... Oh boy, so you mentioned
really quickly, I want to bring this up since
it's... I didn't bring this up at the top, but
I'll bring this up now since it ties into the
next story. I have recently been rewatching,
actually not even rewatching, kind of watching
for the first time, NCIS Los Angeles, which was
the second series in the franchise. It debuted
in 2009. The series has 14 seasons, and it basically
is pretty much 24 episodes per season. So this
ties into our episode talk a second ago, about
10 or 8 or whatever. man i forgot how good like
because i've kind of been reblogging not reblogging
but i i started an ncisla thread on twitter as
i'm watching through the show and i'm only up
to like season two episode four at this point
but when i was blogging through season one i
was like i got to season 12 and i'm like wow
i'm halfway through the show or through the first
season took me like i don't know six days to
get through half of that first season i was like
oh it took me six days to get through half this
show the first season of it and i miss long seasons
i really miss like and i'm talking about tv seasons
and i'm talking about live action tv seasons
specifically i'm not talking about animated series
that's a whole other deal whole other thing And
then I thought to myself, hmm, 24, 12, 10, 8,
where do we draw the line at what is an actual
season of television? For me, it is a... You
can only call a season of television no less
than 13 episodes. If it's anything lower than
13, I don't see it as a, as a season of television.
10 episodes is a extended series, extended miniseries,
anything less than 10. It's a miniseries to me.
I don't know. So I see a miniseries is like six
to eight episodes. Agreed. I see. I think we
need to go back to the 13 episode thing. I feel
like, too, we need to get away from having serialized
everything. Like I miss having, you know, yeah,
have a have a like two parter or three parter,
you know, arc have an overarching arc across,
you know, the season like Strange New Worlds
kind of does. I don't necessarily like if I hate
an episode. I don't want to feel like I have
to watch it again to get the entire gist of the
season. Like I can go back. That's why I go back
and watch old Star Trek or watch old Batman,
the animated series or old Justice League or
old, you know, any of these old shows. I can
just pick up a random episode and watch the ones
I like. And it doesn't impact the overall story
because it's a message in a bottle. It's, you
know, you have your start, your middle, your
end. That's it. Like I can I can legitimately
sit down. It's like watching a mini movie in
the limited time I have. It's not the expectation
that I'm walking into the Marvel Cinematic Universe
at the beginning of Captain America and they
won't let me leave until Doomsday or Secret Wars,
you know, and then they're like, oh, wait, here's
this other series. Oh, wait, here's this. It's
like it's kind of why I've stopped doing like
collaborative like DC Comics or Marvel or whatever,
because like they. tend to jump ship to too many
different issues to try and get the gist of the
whole story and it's like i don't have the mental
capacity or the need to collect everything to
find out where it lands uh it's like i would
much rather have a message in a bottle stuff
stayed self -contained i i feel like we're at
this this pinnacle now of television and i get
it like they're they're doing lower season or
an episode count so that they can pump them out
and then be like all right you've subscribed
It's like maybe have a plan going into this and
do like classic television did to where, you
know, I mean, yeah, we had anywhere from 13 to
26 episodes a season on any given show. And we
had the next season within like six to eight
months instead of like a year, two years, three
years down the road after it airs into where,
you know, I saw an article about Netflix fighting
this exact issue. of unable to keep people subscribed
because like they they dip out after the first
season of a show and then they they cancel their
subscription and they go do something else and
then they never come back for the second third
or fourth season if there's some you know they
come along but it's like dude you you waited
a year or two years to come out with the next
one and you did six to eight episodes it's like
i'm not invested enough to care yeah it's like
it's like when we got the war for cybertron stuff
I think I could have overlooked. I don't think
I could have overlooked the poor voice acting
and the poor voice direction, but I could have
gotten the gist of the story a little bit better
had they had longer to go. Yeah, give us give
us 10 episodes at least, you know, at the minimum,
give us 13. That would be ideal. Ended on a three
parter, you know, do you do like what they used
to do? Like, I mean, it's just. It made more
sense and I got more invested, whereas like the
stuff now I'm like a lot of it's like rinse,
repeat, throw away, don't care. The only the
only shows I've seen recently. That I've had
a different opinion about that, I'm like, OK,
like I loved what I watched. And I'm ready for
more. And they gave eight episodes of both these
shows. Is Spider Noir. Absolutely love that show.
Great. Basically, a master class on how to do
a superhero TV show and have fun with it because
I've watched it three times all the way through.
I watched it all the way in color. I watched
it all the way in the projected way. Then I've
watched it in the recommended way of doing it.
The black and white, the color, the black and
white, the color. So I've thoroughly enjoyed
that. I've also gotten a review and I can say
that because this because this episode is coming
out after the release date of it. I watched the
new Little House on the Prairie. Oh, OK. Cool.
On Netflix and it's coming out or it came out.
July 9th. At like. 1 a .m. my time and. what
i enjoyed about that was yes it's a more dramatized
more of an update it follows the books like the
original show with michael landon does not follow
the books like it follows loot very very loosely
and then it's it's like in a fictional town that
never existed and then uh all these things that
they changed because michael landon wanted to
change it and the studio wanted to change it
and it had nothing to do with how good like it
following any of the books So this new one actually
follows the books like there's a few things sprinkled
in, but it also ties into history of where it
exists in time. Right. And kind of plays along
with that. And so it's it's historically accurate
and accurate to the books, give or take a few
little things that I noticed. But it's both of
those. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I actually
had my family watching that with me. uh, as fans
of the original and as people that read the original
books and, uh, they were like, okay, this is
awesome. They're like, I really liked this. Like,
like they, they watched part of the old show
earlier today. And like, uh, cause I have it
on DVD and, uh, that's a whole nother episode.
We'll have to talk about, about, uh, DVD and
blu -ray collections. Oh yeah. Physical media.
Cause I have jumped back into that bandwagon
pretty hard. Um, I because there's so many discounts
now where you can get so many bundles of stuff
for cheap. Whereas back when I was collecting
the first time, it wasn't. Well, like I just
got Mask of the Phantasm in 4K like for 17 or
something. Nice. But I'm not going off in too
far in a tangent here, but I got it. I got it
for that because I mean, I could have bought
the. you know the ultimate companion of like
uh batman animated films uh for like 30 bucks
but i was like i don't care enough about a lot
of them and mask of the phantasm holds a special
place in my heart being the first film i ever
saw in theater and then having in 4k is like
having theater quality so i'm like i'm like And
then the box art's beautiful, so I was like,
I gots to do it. It'll look nice next to my Transformers
the movie 4K. And then I got Justice League Unlimited
Blu -ray. Justice League regular Blu -ray. I
still have to get Beyond and Animated Series.
There's not a Return of the Joker Blu -ray yet.
which i'm a little surprised no it uh it comes
in um batman beyond blu -ray does yeah i'll have
to look again because like i looked in the store
and i didn't see it on the disc uh i'll have
to research it for you later because i have it
it when it um i don't know if it does now but
when it there's a whole other top is a whole
other topic for yeah yeah um but yeah so i so
i did that and then like they had the toby mcguire
spider -man films uh free pack for like nine
bucks and i was like boom so yeah i'm like super
super geeked on all of that i'm like and then
like i can get superman the animated series for
on dvd for like 15 i can get you know um there's
there's just so many so many awesome uh things
you can get right now so very cool very cool
yeah So I'm, I'm super geeked anyways, to say,
say the least. That is awesome. Very cool. But
yeah, as far as TV shows, I would say 13 to 26
episodes is kind of a necessity. Yeah, absolutely.
And it just, it's one of those things where I
just can't, I don't know. I, I just can't do.
Anything lower. So going over to TV line again,
tvline .com. NCIS shocker. That's what they say.
Michael Weatherly featuring a returning as Tony
Dinozzo for season long arc. Brace yourselves,
NCIS fans. An old friend is rejoining the team.
Michael Weatherly is returning to the hit CBS
procedural next season, reprising his role as
Tony DiNozzo in a season -long arc. TV Line has
learned Weatherly confirmed the news in a video
posted to the show's official Instagram, laughing
and saying, I'll see you in the fall. NCIS returns
this fall for season 24, airing Tuesdays at 8
p .m. ahead of new spinoff NCIS New York. Weatherly
was an original cast member when NCIS debuted
on CBS back in 2003. He left the show in the
season 13 episode Family First, with Tony resigning
from the team to raise the daughter, Tali, he
shared with fellow agent Ziva David. Weatherly
later returned as Tony in season 21 for the funeral
of beloved medical examiner Donald Ducky Mallard,
played by the late David McCollum. They then
went on to do NCIS Tony and Ziva. But will Tony
be the team's new director? So that's the reason
why I'm bringing this up. So Tony's return brings
up one big question, though. Is he taking over
for the late Leon Vance as the team's new director?
Vance was killed off in the show's Milestone
500th episode last season. With co -star Rocky
Carroll leaving the series after 18 years, Vance's
death left a void that has yet to be filled on
the show, and the show's cast and crew hinted
that someone we already knew might come in to
fill his shoes. My preference? I'd like to see
a familiar face. Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy,
told TV Line at the annual CBS Fest in Los Angeles,
especially with all the tumult of losing director
vance i'd like i would like to see a familiar
face there so that we kind of know what our bearings
are ncis showrunner steven d binder admitted
that they were considering a number of options
for the new director we're going to keep our
ear to the ground and if a casting opportunity
comes our way we're going to take it he added
now if we can find a way to have a director who's
also Really involved in the cases somehow. That
might be interesting. Dun, dun, dun. And again,
one of the only reasons why I'm even bringing
this up is because, number one, I have just rediscovered.
I've always loved this franchise, but I've never
really, like, it's just the last time I remember
really watching NCIS, the core show, the main
show, the show that started it all back in 2003.
is when I had the first five seasons on DVD,
which I think was back in 2007, 2008. And like
I mentioned earlier, I've been re -watching NCIS
LA. But yeah. It's very interesting. Say the
least, as far as that goes. And then the last
thing I have is something that just makes me
go, huh? I don't understand that. Like, no, dude,
like, okay. There are certain things that, that
I see and I'm just like, what? And I'm like,
what, what, what? Okay. So. When you think of
websites and what they're called and just, just
think of the name of the website and okay. So
good housekeeping. Okay. Good housekeeping. Hold
on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Don't,
don't, don't jump the gun on me here because
you know, good housekeeping, uh, good housekeeping
.com. What to buy? Home and decor, food and recipes,
holidays and gatherings. Okay, they do have a
section for entertainment and pop culture. Okay,
fine. But, like, when you hear the name Good
Housekeeping, goodhousekeeping .com, you don't
think 50 movies from the 80s that you totally
forgot about. And let me be clear about this.
All these websites, any websites, geek culture,
any culture, all these damn web. The narrative
of these websites. Insert this of whatever it
is from whichever decade you you totally forgot
about. No, we didn't. I know we modern Internet.
Like, OK, go ahead. Go ahead. I was going to
say the amount of stupid clickbait, like absolutely
stupid clickbait. That's one of the things I'm
trying to combat with the new site, because every
one of these social media posts and all of the
comments on all of these posts are like, like
Batman, the animated series is coming back. And
it's like, no, it's not. the board game or a
comic like there's it's like get your facts straight
like we know that it's not coming back because
it doesn't have kevin conroy plus bruce tim's
already moved on he's got you know the the the
current uh amazon batman series which is going
to season two soon um but i mean like it's just
I wish that they would stop, but it's going to
be beautiful when the cards come crashing down
because pretty quick here, we're going to end
up with a situation where the AI doesn't recommend
them anymore. Yeah, I hope that happens. Well,
the way that it's changing and because it's so
epically dynamic. it's so dynamic now at this
point that if you're not asking a question and
answering it and you're just using clickbait
and your article does not back it up it puts
it at a lower scale and so therefore it will
not recommend it again so in essence they're
burning their own bridge little by little and
so I'm it's It's like the wedding singer joke.
They're losing their minds. And I'm reaping all
the benefits. And then the curtain goes away.
That's how I feel about the whole situation because
it's literally what they're doing. They're self
-destructing on themselves at this point. And
in that regard, I'm kind of excited for it. It's
horrible to say. But I'm kind of excited for
it because it means that us little guys will
start getting in, you know, back on the top of
the Internet scale and have, you know, the credibility
that we should have had. It was kind of taken
by these dumpster fires. So I don't know, man,
I'm I'm kind of kind of hoping this crash and
burns in there against them. Yeah, but. It still
shouldn't come to this. Like, it's sad. Like,
I absolutely hate the fact that we have clickbait.
Yeah. As much as we do. Like, there's so many
articles, especially when it comes to, like,
Star Trek, Batman, Transformers. I lose my collective
crap when I see any of them. Because I'm like,
I can tell it's bogus. just by the title. Yeah,
absolutely. And the crazy thing about this list
is the number one that they put on here about
movies from the eighties that you totally forgot
about the movie that is going to be 40 years
old next year that I absolutely love that. I
grew up loving the movie that. The kingpin started
out his superhero career on when he played Thor.
Adventures 1987's Adventures in Babysitting.
I never forgot that movie. I love that freaking
movie. E .T. Who the hell forgot about E .T.?
The birds. The gremlins. No one forgot. That
you don't feed them after midnight. Howard the
Duck. I know of like every one of these movies.
I know. I'm picking out the ones that. Yeah.
Party in Pink. War Games. The Goonies. The Princess
Bride. Trading Places. Yeah. Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters.
Money Pit. Overboard. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
The best Thanksgiving movie. The only commercial
Thanksgiving movie that's out there. Revenge
of the Nerds. Short Circuit. Short Circuit is
40 years old this year. You mean to tell me that
that movie is one of the most forgotten movies
of the 80s? Terminator. Weird Science. Footloose.
Highlander. Dirty Dancing. Beetlejuice. Labyrinth,
Wall Street, Risky Business, Fast Time at Ridgemont
High, Christmas Story, Ferris Bueller, Neverending
Story. Ferris Bueller is a movie that people
totally forgot about. How can you forget about
Christmas Story? They play it for 24 hours in
a single day in every friggin' year! Well, let's
go down a rabbit hole. Now, mind you, this article
is from 2019. I don't care. I know. So. This
this is this is the hilarious thing. The lady
that wrote this. I'm such a. I didn't even realize
it was from 2019, folks, because I saw this on
my Google feed. Why Google is sharing articles
from 2019 with me is beyond me. Because nothing
recent is worth Google sharing at this point.
I'm just saying, man. So this lady writes for
Country Living Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Yahoo,
you know, journalism stuff, Southern Living,
Pioneer Women. The lady's older than us. It's
like, who forgot about it? It's like, who are
you? Who are you, you know, marketing this to?
Yeah, if you're marketing it to Gen Z, they're
not going to know what half these movies are.
They're like, oh, those are before the Internet.
I don't know what that is. Yeah, that's, you
know, if you're like, I mean, even Gen Alpha,
like some of them haven't or Gen Beta haven't
even. Gen Alpha and Beta for sure haven't seen
any of these. unless their parent was a millennial
or Gen X. But yeah, I, yeah. She's, she's definitely
like a content writer that writes a lot of crap.
I mean, and I'm not knocking her writing. I'm
saying like a lot of the crap that they have
writers. Cause I've done this. I've done tech
writing. Yeah. They, cannibalize the header no
matter what you put in there like the editor
for the website they change it and then they
give you your topic and your assignment and then
even if you have zero knowledge of it they're
like write an article and that's your assignment
don't care if you've never used it like they
assigned me like literally an article to write
about an iPad or an iPhone and I'm like I literally
have barely touched an iPhone or an iPad for
less than 10 minutes like at that point like
I've used them a little bit since then because
like my wife has an iPad and like but otherwise
like at that point I'd never even used like a
Mac so yeah it was like you're you're having
me write something I have no knowledge about
so it's disingenuous from the start and then
they wanted me to write one on podcasting which
was hilarious because i was supposed to peddle
a product and i was like but your product is
crap yeah your product's crap and i was like
and i know for a fact about podcasting because
i'm doing it right now yeah exactly right as
you're you're emailing me i'm doing it yeah yeah
so i mean i wrote i wrote a you know this this
article back in 2019 and like some a lot of these
and when it was during my unemployed time and
so like i don't fault the writer i fault the
publication um Because the publication is the
problem. Like, they're the one... Like, this
woman has written over almost 5 ,000 articles.
Oh my god. Yeah. It's a lot of stuff. But they
get paid by the writing. And, you know... But...
My issue is you end up with situations where
it's totally disingenuous. Even... just writing
half these articles but it's again the publications
it's the same reason i have a problem with anything
valnet creates because it's all clickbait it's
all trash um because they have people that are
have no knowledge on any of it that are writing
these articles and so i you know i'm sure there's
some that have knowledge on it but the way that
they're written sounds disingenuous and kind
of crap like which is something that like, I
look at the integrity of what we do here. Like
it's always raw. It's always authentic. We may
be pulling crap out of our butt half the time,
you know, and, but we'll admit it. And we're
like, Hey, you know, we goofed like whatever
it's, but we're not like huddling it. Like, yeah,
we know everything. No, we don't know everything.
It's half the time. We don't know anything. And
you're getting like raw from a fan of something
like. commenting about it or writing about it
like you're not getting some and crap yeah like
me me going down that list and reacting to it
folks you're like that's a raw reaction like
like what the hell are you people doing why are
you writing this this way like but yeah so That,
I think, is everything. I think so, too. I think
so. We'll have to do the top 50 movies from the
90s that you totally forgot. You know what? You
know, I have an idea. I'm not saying it on the
air. We'll discuss it on air. Yeah, I have an
idea. I have an idea. why because yeah my idea
is sway because all those articles they are shwarbage
yes yes they are oh okay good for a second there
i'm like come on dude what we have some other
topics that are about disc based things that
we'll discuss on the next episode because yes
next episode it's uh physical versus the digital
yep so we'll discuss that and be next content
libraries yes yeah oh boy content libraries it's
round one fight them's fine words that's right
that was fighting words um so yeah so anyways
