Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Review

About this Episode
Hey guys, Raphael here at the Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles. Did you say podcast? Dudes, dudettes,
you're listening to a podcast on the Gatecast
Radio Network. Cowabunga! Hello and welcome to
episode 198 of The Cinema Geeks. I am one of
your Cinema Geeks Optimus Solo and joining me...
As usual is movie revolt Dan hello. Hello. And
we are back at it talking more turtles so as
you've been probably paying attention or noticed
over the last number of episodes we've been covering
all of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies
within the franchise we've covered the original
three live action. We've covered a couple of
the animated ones last time we covered the 2014
reboot live -action and today we're coming back
with its sequel the 2016 live -action film which
is entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles out
of the shadows I know we talked about it briefly
at the end of last episode Dan but catch everybody
up with what your experience is with this movie
and what your history is This was the first time
I fully ever watched that I mentioned I try to
watch it a few other times on TV I skipped it
in theaters because I really disliked The last
one like I'm not going to spend my money. I'll
wait I came on TV. I'll try it and I just I couldn't
I I always fell asleep again and that wasn't
really the movie. I just kind of I'm really good
at sleeping So it was the first time I really
watched it through I Heard from a lot of people
that it was better into the last one You know,
I knew that Some of the I knew a lot of the storyline
in the sense of like characters that were supposed
to show up and things like that so I didn't have
huge expectations because I Really disliked the
last movie But I thought I knew that we are some
of the things you're hoping for like from the
characters from the cartoons are going to show
up and things like that so. I don't know I had
a mixed feelings going into this. Yeah I do remember
seeing this one time in the theater but I also
was not a big fan original originally of the
2014 films I did not have a whole lot of like.
Motivation or excitement for this one like I
probably went into the two thousand fourteen
one mildly hopeful and excited cuz I love you
know the original live action one so much and
I was like oh they're doing it again but that
one obviously disappointed me so I was just kind
of like and like I went to this one because I
believe there was a group of us going so and
I think Amanda was with me and I don't remember
if Ridley sent was with me or not but there was
a group of us that went and saw this one and
it was just like a popcorn summer movie but I
remember almost nothing from it As I rewatched
it stuff came back obviously, but it didn't stick
with me But I remember that I was kind of just
when I went into this the first time now this
one is Directed by Dave Green again written by
Applebaum and Nemec obviously based on the main
turtles characters and we're gonna get into a
few of the other characters that come across
so this one's following the the turtles on one
side we're gonna be joined with april o 'neill
again and we're gonna be reintroduced i guess
in this version to casey jones we're gonna have
splinter involved that's the main kind of group
on the good side and all we do also get obviously
the return of will arnett is verne the falcon
fenwick in this one so we have that and then
one other new human character that kind of is
Both good and bad, I guess at different times
depending on how your viewer is the police chief
played by Laura Lenny And then on the bad side,
we're gonna get shredder. We're gonna get cry
again we're gonna get the foot clan and then
the the new characters we're gonna get in this
one are going to be Crang bebop and rock steady.
Yes, there's no toka and razor this time. We
do get bebop and rock steady so What did you
think of just kind of the general plot for this
or the the cast of characters that they decided
to include in this film like what's your first
reaction all that. Well the first thing that
I know there were two casting choices that gonna
spit out to me. One being Stephen M. Ellis Casey
Jones because they came out in around the time
arrows really big and it seemed like. Okay that
makes sense I was I watched a little bit of arrow
and the flash I wasn't like hugely into it I
friends that are. Always interested to seeing
it. It made sense like your green arrow. I guess
why not be another comic book character? And
then of course she miss as Rocksteady you know
the WWE star and that was like of all that we
do like w stars like Sheamus isn't one like I
didn't even know he had asked acting aspirations
and I forget that he's in this so those were
interesting choices The storyline I have to say
this like one of the issues I had with the last
movie is that like like there was no Character
development whatsoever. There was like there
was a lacking of any character story or whatsoever
Here I say definitely, you know, it's a bit cliche,
but at least it's there like it you right it's
it's executed to the point of you understand
like what what's going on like, you know that
we see this drama between the turtles and you
have Donnie trying to lead them and There's friction
because Michelangelo wants to feel a part of
the regular world. So You know, it's clear and
concise and it makes sense. I think that's something
that this movie had going that the last one did
it. Everything at least makes sense for the most
part, which sounds like a low bar and it is,
but after the last movie was like, at least,
you know, point A and point B are a lot clearer
and it doesn't seem that things just randomly
happen. There are some choices that are like,
you know, a big question of all. Uh, there I
don't think it starts off the strongest per se
Like the this the scene with like megan fox where
they're like, okay We gotta get some scene where
we can have her undressed and look like a catholic
schoolgirl for some reason like that seemed a
bit derogatory and unnecessary Uh true michael
bay fashion and again didn't make this movie
or direct it but you know, like that was something
he was known for but I have to say on a sheer
just Ability to tell a story it was functional
and competent And at least when you compare it
to what we got with the first film Yeah, and
I want to get back into the characters a little
because I did miss one That was a somewhat of
a major character. I forgot that on the bad side.
You also have Baxter Stockman and then going
Yeah going into the cast a little bit just because
a few of these things threw me off right from
the beginning I was actually writing in my notes
multiple times Like is that the same person that
played this person in the first movie? Is that
the same person that played this person in the
first movie? And I was like I got a like I wrote
myself a note. Please check To see if these are
recastings or not because they seem like completely
different people so just kind of want to go through
i was right with most of them so we have a different
leonardo it's not johnny noxville in this film
like it was in the first one so there's a new
person for. Leonardo his name is pete plaza i'm
not familiar with his work but then we have the
same rafael donatello michael angelo with richard
howard and all fisher we still get tony shalhoub
as splinter motion capture is a different person
but the voice is the same. We get gary anthony
williams is b -bop shamus like you said from
wwe rocksteady we get brad garrett as the voice
of crying. Which i guess i didn't put together
right away we obviously have megan foxes april
anneal stephen amellas casey jones we have will
our net back those are all the same. We have
brian t as shredder who is not the same person
that portrayed him in the first movie that was
like the first one i noticed i'm like that's
not the same guy that played shredder. We have
tyler perry as doctor baxter stockman who is
not who played baxter stockman in the first one
i know he had just like a cameo in the first
one but it's a different person and then cry
is. Weirdly played by a different person which
i don't know that one seems like the most odd
to me because it's not like that major characters
some. Yeah, it just seems weird that that wasn't
the same person so some of those kind of threw
me off We have like the the all -state guy that
does like a cameo in the bar as a bartender Dean
Winters And then we have like a million cameos
like there's all these NBA people that show up
Kevin Eastman shows up There's like a supermodel
that shows up that some people may be familiar
with so As far as the casting goes, what did
you think of that and what did you think of the
people that were changing? Did it throw you off
at all, especially with Shredder? And did you
like the new Leonardo better than Johnny Knoxville?
I definitely appreciated the change from Johnny
Knoxville. Nothing against Knoxville, but he
did not fit as Leonardo and they were right to
change him. Yeah, the Shredder was one that was
very different because he was bald in the last
movie. They just showed his face a lot. Like
he was so surprised. Like how I was not a big
fan of that. Yeah. Front and center. He didn't
feel like shredder because of that to me. Like,
right. I get you want an actor. You hire an actor
to act. So you want to be able to see that. But
I guess it took something away from the character.
I think a little bit because that, you know,
that iconography when you have a character like
shredder, that's part of like what makes him
so menacing and like you'll have like the gauntlet
on or something like that. And It kind of works,
but it just didn't feel like Shredder in those
moments. The acting was fine. He didn't have
a bad performance, but that choice, because it
happens so little. So that one was probably the
most distracting to me, was those choices. I
did notice the voice of Crane being Ray Romano's
brother. And that, similar to Johnny Vagnoff's
voice a bit, like it... Okay, I think it hurt
it a little bit in my accent was hard to taking
prank seriously And I guess you're not really
supposed to because it's pranks. He's always
right enough But yeah, but I gotta say Tyler
Perry. I thought his dr. Stockman was it's perfect.
I thought he did a really good job Yeah, I think
I was so distracted I didn't recognize it was
Brad Garrett because I was so focused on if crank
was gonna sound like he did in the cartoon Yeah,
like I was really looking for like was he gonna
have those like high -pitched like we're like
almost like Voice changes where it's like someone
going through puberty or something like when
crank talks in the cartoon So I was like looking
for that and I feel like he did try to do that
a little bit like it wasn't quite as exaggerated
as it is in the cartoon but I was so like looking
for that that I forgot to like really pay attention
to who was the voice but Yeah, so that didn't
give me I want to get into a couple of the characters
like back stories a little bit and kind of just
briefly like their introduction so we get bebop
and rock study obviously was talked about Gary
Anthony Williams and Shamus who are these Criminals
who are in the car with shredder being transported
So they they start off as just those humans and
we kind of see like the typical story as far
as like Getting the the mutagen or the ooze or
you know the different things that we call that
to turn them into these Warthog and rhinoceros,
but what threw me there is that like the actual
humans were going by the name of bebop and rocksteady
already Like that just seemed weird to me like
Have you ever met a human whether it's a gang
name or a gangster name or a criminal name or
whatever I'm like So they're actually like just
trying to play it off like these guys were known
as rock study and be about beforehand That was
sort of little weird for me, but that's such
a minor point But the one I want to get into
and get your opinions on is more so Casey Jones
So we get Stephen Amell, which I think is fine
I like him as the cast of that I'm used to a
Casey Jones with longer hair because in every
other iteration I feel like he's had long hair
But that's neither here nor there. What I'm interested
to see is what your take is of the fact that
in all of these other iterations, I'm not as
familiar with the comics, but in the cartoons
and the other movies and whatnot, Casey Jones
has always been more of this vigilante. He seems
very anti -institution and things of that nature,
kind of this rebel, this anti -hero, so to speak.
And in this one, he is a corrections officer,
like literally working for the police. And then,
you know, his dream is to be higher up in, you
know, a detective or different things like that.
I can't remember exactly what rank he wanted
to be, but I think it was a detective for New
York or whatever. And obviously he's getting
thwarted by that. So he's like told he's never
going to, you know, make that. So he kind of
goes on his own vigilante. It was like a different
path, I guess, to the same thing, like he still
ends up a vigilante. But what did you think of
like the whole like background in the police
department? I just thought as a character he
seemed a bit too clean -cut like yes, and like
you mentioned this, you know having short hair,
but even He didn't seem to really fit the role.
I just part of it's like the voice. Okay. I don't
know like it seemed It he did not have that ruggle
aspect. Yeah Kind of rebel without a cause type
of character you strike with Casey Jones. I mean,
maybe it's him getting there, you know, it's
him like Working to that I did it did seem odd
that he would be a cop, but at least he's a correctional
cop, so maybe he's even in the outskirts of that.
I don't know. I guess you just need it... He
was clearly, I think, just there because you
need a reason for him to connect with the Turtles
and it's easier to do it that way. I wasn't a
huge fan of that decision, like you mentioned,
because it does seem to conflict with what we
know as the character, but I feel like with the
Turtles, if anything, we've always gotten different
versions of the way they approach them. But overall,
though, I just felt... I don't know. To me he
was in this movie because Casey Jones, you want
Casey Jones in the turtles movie. He didn't necessarily
feel essential to what was happening here and
like kind of felt like an add -on and he didn't
have that connection to me to the turtles or
any of the turtles that we've gotten. To me it
felt more like a stunt or just something they
felt obligated to do than something that really
made sense for what was going on. Right and like
one of the things that i've always enjoyed about
casey jones like you said is his interactions
with what you know either the turtles as a whole
or an individual turtle like we saw the obviously
a lot with rafael in the original live action
film. And they make like a conscious choice to
separate him from the turtles in a good portion
of this like. They have a whole sequence or a
whole set you know actor whatever where casey
jones and is it with april and burn and like
that type of stuff is not even with the turtles
so i feel like the. Separating him from the turtles
is not what I necessarily want like I want to
see more of his interactions with the turtles
So I kind of agree with you on that part as well
Did you notice it seems like they tried to make
some minor course corrections in the look of
the actual turtles? I don't know if it was from
feedback They got from the first one or or whatnot
like they're still hulking. They're still huge
and things like that but it seemed like they
took away most of the extra like like the chess
pieces and the different like It wasn't as busy
to me this time like I was able to distinguish
the turtles a little bit easier a little bit
more clear what did you think. I agree it seems
like they simplified them a great deal. Anyone
that seems to have just be as complicated ever
done a little bit it fit like it seems like it
they're just kind of had some key elements to
the design but. I still don't love the whole
thing look of them and everything that they can't
really be able to change that movie right but.
At least it would be, I think, an improvement
compared to what we got last time. Yeah. Another
thing that seems to be a trend here with our
turtle movies, a lot of the films that we've
gone through, and I know we shouldn't probably
expect too much from these. You know, just like
I said, popcorn summer blockbusters that are
trying to be super. I don't know what you want
to say, super complex or super whatever, but
does every one of them have to start off with
like a horrendous exposition piece? And this
one is being done via the jumbotron at a new
york's nick games like it didn't make sense like
i'm like in no world does this sequence get played
on the jumbotron in front of a. Basketball baseball
football take your pick. It's never gonna happen
like they might introduce somebody as like hey
this person Served in World War two or this person
was you know from whatever like a fireman from
9 -eleven But they're not gonna like go into
the hole with footage and all of this stuff It
seems so bizarre to me to start it in like every
turtles movie at least the last like I feel like
the last three or four we've covered have all
had like this Exposition right out the gate to
like get us where they need to be and it's just
Painfully obvious in this one, but we did not
get the painfully obvious Pizza commercial and
this one. Yeah, so I did appreciate that What
did you think of the? The turtle van because
we do get to feature that it seems like they're
doing a lot of things in this one Really specifically
for fans of the cartoon and things like that,
you know whether it be crying and beep up and
rock say but we get the turtle van as well and
I like the idea of the turtle van I don't think
I'm super sold on the giant num chucks, the giant
bow or the different like each of the turtles
weapons that are coming out like in turtle van
style. But what did you think of the turtle van
overall? I appreciated the attempt. You know,
I think this one that it seemed like, OK, let's
try to be a little bit more fun and goofy. And
it doesn't necessarily make logistical sense.
And I'm OK with that, because I feel like they're
also teenagers with That are turtles so they're
probably going to do things that just seem cool.
I can kind of believe it that they would make
big gigantic dumb shots because they think it
would be awesome to do. So yeah, I liked it.
I think that to me was like kind of the spirit
of the movie like not everything worked. It was
kind of there, but the attempt felt genuine most
of the time and at least at the end of the day
it was. It was fun, so I gave it that. What did
you think of the visual? Affects specifically
like when we're talking about the the villains
bebop rock steady and crying because they're
all gonna obviously have a whole bunch of CGI
stuff going on and from a visual standpoint for
me I really thought crank looked good like I
thought they did a good job capturing What he
kind of looked like in the cartoon but making
it a little bit much shorter and making it work
in a live -action standpoint I wasn't as old
on his body Because I thought his body was a
little bland compared to what we get in the cartoon
I'm not expecting it to be exactly like that,
but I it just seemed like kind of just nondescript
to me, but I thought crank himself was good and
Bebop and rock study there was nothing that I
like that stood out to me as like terrible. I'm
not saying it's like Award -worthy like best
special effects visual effects ever, but it didn't
seem bad to me So what did you think of the visual
effects on all three of those characters? I think
the overall movie looked pretty good. The special
effects CGI was strong. I felt the characters
were there. They had a weight to them in those
action sequences. They were able to match up
pretty well. The design made sense. I knew who
everyone was. It was clear. It had some club
acts to the cartoon and what you expect from
them. On the design standpoint, Gotta give it
the props it looks really good considering how
much of this even more so than last film. It's
built on CGI And even like, you know some of
the action sequences and things like I felt even
those look better here like so they're bright
and a lot of times with CGI they'll try to hide
it with like rain or being in the dark here like
they like it is where up in the sky The blue
sky in clear as day and that is not easy. So
I gotta give the you know, the CGI whoever it
was the special effects artist a lot of credit
because I thought they did pretty pretty sounding
stuff here Like that is certainly a huge strength
of this movie. Yeah, I agree there even if we
see bebop and rock city come out of like the
raging I don't know if that was a river or whatever
body of water that was in a tank that just like
Came out with no problem it was not affected
by that water at all but i think you're right
i think the action was good in this film i don't
think we quite got the action like we did in
the rich like it it wasn't. The original live
action we talk about how the action within that
had like all of these. I don't know not necessarily
all humorous beats but it had like this balance
of like hard hitting action but like. Comedy
mixed in and then they didn't quite go for that
Necessarily with the action which is fine because
I think they did a good job of adding in more
like one -liners and more Comedic stuff that
we would think would fit well with the turtles
like it's not like the turtles forever when they
make like the cartoon just like silly comedy
comedy like this one had like Just stuff that
the normal average everyday person would find
funny to me like there's lines about crank calling
him chewing gum And then they call him bubble
issues Like I thought that was hilarious. And
then there was a what was there something about
not being tall enough for the ride that he won't
he was wanting off of it. So I thought there
was some fun like one liners fun dialogue that
made it harken back a little bit more to the
original live action film for me at least. What
did you think? Yeah, it seemed like one of the
comments based on personality more so than like
forcing and jokes or stuff like that. Oh, you
know, It felt authentic to the characters. There's,
of course, mention the nunchucks where they hold
it up and it's knocked off. It didn't overly
undercut itself when things got serious, but
it also wasn't too serious where you kind of
like the Zack Snyder of it. It was a good balance
of both. Sometimes where you have those movies
where they're trying to have this like... Matched
important action sequence and then they undercut
it by some joke just because it's getting too
serious I didn't feel like that happened too
much. It was pretty consistent throughout So
I remember the other joke I appreciated in the
middle of the battle was when they went crying
like I think is Whatever happened to him and
he's like he made the line of he's literally
rearming like when he was putting yeah I was
like, oh that was clever the other thing they
do to really harken back to the feel of some
of those original live -action films was the
music so we have like Zoom zoom we have ice ice
baby in there and then I think the ending credit
sequence like the the credit roll is fantastic
like I don't know if you watch that or not or
if you stop before that started but they have
a lot of fun graphics they have the they're doing
the actual original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
cartoon theme song like a variation of it but
they're doing that yeah they do so they do the
original cartoon theme song and then they take
Go from that and they transition into go ninja
go which was fun. So I think they did a lot to
try to like Capture some of that music and capture
some of that like to help the set like the atmosphere
and the kind of feel of the movie which was kind
of fun Another thing if you're like a huge Turtles
fan and I don't own this one on DVD But I looked
up some of the deleted scenes to have you seen
that any of the deleted scenes for this one?
Have that now so there is a deleted scene that
has Judith Hogue the original April O 'Neil from
the first live -action film playing Megan Fox's
April O 'Neil's is boss So yeah, so April O 'Neil
like has a meeting with her boss so it's a it's
Megan Fox and Judith Hogue sitting at a table
talking to each other and basically Judith Hogue
is offering April O 'Neil Chance to be like the
whatever you call it the anchor the main like
person for the news channel like they're gonna
build the channel all around her or whatever
and it's just kind of fun to see and there's
even a line where like Judith Hogue says to April
it says to Megan Fox like we're basically the
same person It was so well done. Like I really
wish they would have left that in the movie,
but it's available on YouTube So all you got
to do is search out like Judith Hoag deleted
scene and it'll bring it up and you can watch
it but I thought that was kind of a fun thing
that I almost wish would have been in the film.
I just happen to have some really good sources
on the stream. Well, we want to get you in the
studio full time. We want to make you the new
face of Channel 6. We're ready to rebrand behind
your image. April, there's a seven -figure salary
attached, not including the perks. Enough with
putting your life at risk with a paycheck to
paycheck. You might even have some time to meet
a man while you're still young. Rita, I don't
need a man. I talk to my career every night before
I go to bed. In the last ten years, I haven't
had a glass of water that doesn't have a slice
of cucumber in it. You and I, we're basically
the same person. Come and join me on the mountaintop.
Well, I'm honored. Well, then I'm going to take
that as a resounding yes. It's just that I visualize
this a lot, and I can't believe it's actually
happening. I mean, you know, I'm still paying
off my college loans, right? Not anymore. It
would have been much better served than the Carmelo
Anthony scene, I think. I assume so because it's
really Carmelo Anthony and there's like J .J.
Reddick's in there, Austin River. There's like
five or six like real NBA players. So I think
they had done that. the terms like you see the
number and you're like oh it's 135 million budget
and made 245 that's like 110 million but there's
other stuff that goes into that so it was not
deemed financially successful which mean that
the third installment of this got scrapped actually
and uh instead turned into an animated reboot
that's supposed to be coming out this year i
guess there's some sort of connection there but
I don't know how much of a connection that is
or if that's just somebody like creative license
like hypothetical types of so as far as the Reception
not to be surprised. It doesn't have a great
rot tomato score anything like that. It's a 38
% with an average rating of 4 .7 out of 10 and
Metacritic score 40 out of 100 cinema score average
grade of a minus which is I don't is there any
movie on cinema score that doesn't have a A or
B. I don't know. Yeah, easily. It's like a turn
like something like Mother, the Jennifer Lawrence
movie, because people didn't know that I was
going to be something else that it wasn't. So
some of those movies where it's like they, you
know, it's usually like our house films that
were were advertised as like a normal movie and
people hate it. So gotcha. It did get nominated
for some Teen Choice Awards for some Kids Choice
Awards and for some golden raspberries. You got
that going for it. It's yeah cuz Megan Fox was
signed on for three films I believe all of the
turtles guys were signed on for three films and
I think Tyler Perry might have said something
about he was supposed to be in a third film as
well So obviously none of that happened, but
what is your overall thoughts of this one just
in general? Did you wish there was a third one?
Are you happy that it kind of ended after this
one? Do you believe like you said in the beginning
that this was better than the first one like
you had heard? Do agree it's better than the
first one for sure. Like I said, it's it's competent.
It's like things move make more sense There it's
not it's like nine like the cast you towards
just make area a bit stronger I don't it still
has it like you mentioned so has this issues
It's still I think it's a bit comfy at times
but and but I did like the dynamic which mean
the turtles because we've seen You know Raphael
always be the rebel one, but here he still was
but I like I like the fact that a lot of the
dramas was centered around Michelangelo But that
was a bit different. That wasn't something we've
had before. Him wanting to feel like everyone
else and having that opportunity and having to
make that choice. Now, I do feel like the last
20, 30 minutes or so, the climax just kind of
speeds up and gets to where I need to get to.
And the conclusions aren't necessarily the most
satisfying. But I enjoyed my time here. I thought
it moved well. It did everything you need to
do. I would have probably enjoyed seeing this
in theaters. So, yeah, it was more of a period
in the first film. Not what's happened. There
were some really like cheesy moments like with
Casey Jones getting the skates and like, OK,
like I get it. He plays hockey. But they had
to take some things too far. But I thought it
was able to do what the turtle should do in the
sense of it would satisfy little kids and like
older. Fans, which is I mean you'd argue something
that maybe none of the films have done since
the first one, right? I agree that this one's
far superior than the first one Which is not
something you usually get like usually a sequel
is not doesn't surpass its predecessor But I
think there's far superior I think Krang worked
way better than I would have ever thought he
would have in a movie like if you would anytime
you ever told me like I didn't I talked about
like which characters they're using as villains
a couple different times throughout this with
the live actions and saying like, oh, there's
all these different villains that you could choose.
I know we mentioned Rat King and some different
people like that. Like, we're like, oh, you know,
why don't they do that? Crang never even crossed
my mind because I'm like, that's not even possible.
Like you can't do crying in a live action film.
And I am surprised as to how well I thought it
worked in this rewatch, having crying on here.
And it was I'm not. I forgot about the moment
where he just like immediately disposes of Shredder
in this. Like you think Shredder is going to
be somebody. And I was like, wait, what? I would
say that was my one like drawback was one. I
don't like I feel like shredder fell in line
way too quickly I feel like he'd be smarter to
realize that okay This writing is not does not
have my best interest in mind right that like
that that that was You know, it was like the
last film where? Shredder was kind of a red herring
again. So they kind of do the same thing to two
movies in a row So shredder was not represented
well in these movies, but right I agree with
that like to me that the two bad things in this
and it's not Stephen of else fault but I think
the two bad things in this is Casey Jones and
shredder like like we talked about Casey Jones
I just feel like it didn't fit the character
his backstory didn't work his look didn't work
his the way they did it just didn't separate
him from the turtles I'm not a big fan of and
shredder I think this is like one of my least
favorite shredders as well like both versions
in the 2014 and 2016 film I'm not a big fan of.
This one, it's a different person. So it looks
weird. You're showing his face all of the time,
which just like you said, just takes away the
mystique of shredder. And then you just dispose
of him immediately, like almost as a comedic
bit. And so I wasn't a fan of that, but everything
else, like I like the bits of humor they had.
I like some of the one liners. I like the music.
It made me feel more like the magic of the 1990
film. I'm not saying like, I don't know, necessarily
got to that level, but it just gave me like those
types of vibes, which I really appreciated. And
after this one, I maybe would have been excited,
at least interested to see if what they would
have done with another one or what they would
have where they would have gone from there, which
is not something I would have said just based
off the first one. I would have been like, no,
stop this, like, let it die. Let's do this again
in 10 years and see if somebody else knows what
they're doing. So. So so that's the last of the
live -action films that will cover but we do
have a couple other Movies that we want to cover
before the new one comes out and these are more
Ones that were either direct to streaming services
or thing or direct to video things of that nature
So the next one up is a movie that I have never
seen before and that is from 2019 Called Batman
versus Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles assuming
that we can both find a way to watch this But
Dan have you ever seen Batman versus Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles? Had none I've seen clips
online because it's uh, it gets reposted a bunch
of online like certain like the Batman of a shredder
and stuff But I've never I have never actually
watched the movie So I watched I read some of
the comics because there's been four different
comics of Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
like there's a three -part series and then they
also did one where it's like the animated worlds
Cross so okay. It's on that but I've not actually
watched the Movie itself. So yeah, we're on we're
on new territory for me from this point out Like
there's nothing else in the Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles franchise that I've seen So I haven't
seen this one I haven't seen the the rise of
the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Netflix
Film and obviously I haven't seen the new one.
So it's gonna be all new watches for me So I'm
kind of excited about that And I think that's
going to do it for now. So we've covered all
the live action. We have a few more animated
to go. Dan, if people want to hear more about
what you're putting out content wise lately,
where would they go to find that? I can find
all my stuff at Comic Concierge. Most of my stuff
is on TikTok. That's my biggest focus, along
with Instagram, Twitter threads. Although I don't
really post on there nearly as much as I should,
but that's the best way to find it. You can find
most of my stuff at either optimus solo or you
can search out my youtube channel Which is the
geek showcase where there's a some variety of
different geek topics that we're covering Hopefully
I'll have some new content on there soon and
over the geek cast radio network There's other
stuff that you can listen to a lot of podcasts
especially and we're gonna be doing some fun
Content here towards the end of the year where
we're gonna be covering our top 100 toys of all
time That's a big project similar to ones we've
done in the past. So that'll be an interesting
thing to see so much wider topic than we've had
before and there's a lot of different types of
toys and they've been around for decades and
decades and maybe even centuries so it's going
to be interesting to see how that all boils down
so keep a lookout for that but that's it for
