CINEMA GEEKS
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Review

About this Episode
Hello and welcome to The Cinema Geeks. I am one
of your Cinema Geeks Optimus Solo and joining
me after a long, long break is Movie Revolt Dan.
Hello. Hello, yes, it's been quite quite some
time We never knew if we'd get back to this but
we have that I think technically this is episode
192 so I just pulled up the my podcast addict
and the last one is 191 so Looks like we're at
192. We're making the drive to 200 So, what have
you been up to in the last millennia? Oh Not
much having kids. Oh that good stuff. I don't
remember last time we Yeah, no, so my son was
already two sons was already born now so I'm
not a whole lot. I mean Probably the biggest
thing is I did start try to do a YouTube channel
a little bit But then I switched over to tick
tock and I've been having some Fun there and
then kind of doing that it kind of got the itch
to go back and do this again because it's been
since It talks fun, but like you're just kind
of talking to yourself. So right Fun to kind
of go back and do something like this again.
So I pulled it up in the last episode. We recorded
was March 14th of 2021 So I thought it was longer
than that actually So yeah, so I at the time
I had like what a eight month old and now I have
like a Two year and eight month old so So that's
keeping me busy. Otherwise, I've just been I
haven't been doing a whole lot on my geek cast
radio or anything like that Just been plugging
away a little bit at the geek showcase, which
is a YouTube channel I've been doing I haven't
done a whole lot of other podcasting since then
because we moved halfway across the country now
residing in Florida so that was that took a lot
of time last year switching jobs and switching
locations and moving 20 hours away and Trying
to get established and whatnot. So the only thing
I've been doing is the YouTube because I could
do that with just my phone And I didn't have
to have any access to my microphone or a computer
or whatnot. And then when we moved Like the one
thing we couldn't find was my power cord to my
computer. Oh jeez Like everything else in the
computer was there all the other computer accessories
were there and somehow the power cord wasn't
there So we had to like I had to order a new
one on Amazon and it was just a whole ordeal
Like I don't understand. We still haven't found
it. I don't know. Maybe we lost it somewhere,
but Now we're back up and running and we're going
to be bringing you a series of episodes. I think
it's going to be a series of episodes if we can
stick to it. Celebrating a geek topic that we
haven't spent a whole lot of time on. You and
me haven't. And that is the Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles. We're coming out with a brand new movie
here in 2023 and Dan this is kind of your idea
to kind of cover this so why don't You kind of
let us know what kind of sparked that interest
in How we got here? Yeah, so yeah, like you said
there's a new movie coming out and And I've been
you know, I was big in the turtles as a kid I
don't know if but that was like I know you were
in the Transformers and things like that So I
don't know if turtles was a big part of your
childhood But I was I I didn't get into a lot
of the older shows But seeing that trailer it
got me interested and actually went back and
I started reading The first run of the comics
for the first time it's like and i was thinking
about doing it for tiktok going through and like
watching all the movies And again, it was again
i'll probably do some stuff at tiktok But it'd
be it was like, you know what that'd be the perfect
thing to do cinema geeks is go through that franchise
and be you know, there's a Because you forget
how many movies there are because you know, if
you especially if you count all the animated
So I thought you know We haven't really done
so we've done director retrospectives and things
like that But i don't think we've ever gone through
a franchise before So I thought it'd be kind
of fun, you know, and like my oldest is like
right at the age That I kind of was when I when
I started watching those movies So it was fun
watching, you know seeing how he was interested
in and whatnot. So I thought hey Did you get
to watch it with him? Yes this one I have so
I mean He didn't sit down and watch the entire
thing with me, but he was watching it again more
than I thought he would so Yeah, Turtles came
out in the late 80s, so I was definitely still
a kid. I had been big time into Transformers
and G .I. Joe and He -Man and things of that
nature. Turtles, I think I can credit Turtles
for making me for a small amount of time forget
all of that stuff. Like turtles came out and
I was like, okay, I'm done with all of those
other shows. Like this is where it's at and I
got some of the toys. I remember I had probably,
I don't know, maybe like 10 or 12 of the toys.
Not a ton, but enough, you know, the main turtles.
And I remember having, let's see, I had, I think
Baxter Stockman and Shredder and a couple of
things. I didn't have like as extensive collection
or anything, but I remember I was definitely
into the cartoon. But not as much maybe even
as I was into this movie like I saw this movie
in the theater I You know was a hundred percent
all about it. Like I collected the trading cards
that I think there was trading cards that were
either they might have been an animated series
or the movie but there was trading cards that
were around this time that I was kind of into
I had a lot of I got a couple books that were
kind of about this movie. I had the soundtrack
I had like the the trivia book guide or something
like there was like a unauthorized God, what
was it called like the unauthorized guide to
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the movie or something
like that like and authorizes it was too off
the book and I remember trying to and I am a
terrible artist and I can't draw or anything
like that, but I was trying to like learn how
to draw the turtles and Like definitely had coloring
books of it. I memorized this movie. It was probably
the first movie that I could Quote line for line
like almost the entire movie and I'm not that
type of person like I might remember a line here
there But there's very few movies like Princess
Bride this Tombstone like in Star Wars like those
are the ones that I can like give you line by
line probably so I was this movie and I remember
the the marketing campaign I remember it being
big I remember getting the um for it was either
for this movie or the second movie but there
was a bunch of different musical stuff soundtracks
and I think that they had like this coming out
of your shells tour that they did yes and I had
that CD or cassette tape or whatever it was at
that point like I had that physical media form
of it and I remember just like I knew all the
songs and I was so into this so it was definitely
like what made me like stop watching that other
stuff it was like a new chapter in my life and
this was probably like the last cartoon I kind
of was big time into before I got interested
in sports and not that I wasn't interested in
sports before but like where sports kind of took
more of a forefront and friends and girls and
things like that came later you know as teenagers
and you kind of I kind of shied away from cartoons
just for a little bit not for very long but for
a little bit but this was like the last like
childhood cartoon that I really remember like
just being obsessed about so and like I said
there's been a bunch of movies so there was three
in the 90s this one obviously starts them off
and then we've had I think three animated Films
that were like theater release I could be wrong
though because I've kind of lost track a little
bit. I know there was two There was two other
live -action. I mean actually right? Yeah, there
was two live actions in the 2000s to the not
the people called them on the Michael Bay movies
But he didn't track them. I think he was just
the producer of them right those two and then
there's the You know the turtles forever animated
one, which wasn't necessarily in the theaters
the TMNT One that came out I think in early 2000s.
That was a theater release the cgi animated one
There's one that came out with from netflix last
year. That's on the with which is the new. Oh,
that's right Um, so wasn't I don't think it was
I don't think they released it in theaters. They
might have been like, you know, they do it like
oh Limited releases here and there. Um, and then
there's the one this year, which will Actually
believe be released in theaters. So there's yeah.
Um, it's quite a few. Yeah, I thought I know
I remember now but I like forgot about it when
I was thinking about it And there's been TV movies
and stuff like that too because there was that
crossover with the Power Rangers and things that
not actually movies movies But I think we're
focused just on the actual movies that came out
rather than like all the you know turtles and
the awful Turtles live -action one that was made
for TV. That was just plainly just really really
bad. So we write Yeah, it's definitely been one
of those franchises though that has every like
seems like every few years. There's something
new from it It doesn't seem to go like yeah a
long long time without doing a series or a movie
or a special or something It's been really it's
crazy how much it's been able to reinvent itself
because you know The original comics came out
and they were this like surprise indie hit and
became you know This toy line and into the cartoons
And then you know, he goes away and comes back
with the early, you know It's been able to each
cartoon series has had its own identity Right
movie series as well even the comics because
you had the ones in the 90s and then currently
there's a punch -out But there's like the IDW
which I know Mike and Steve have talked a bunch
and others have talked about in Geocast Radio.
And that's interesting because it's kind of a
blend of like everything in its own recreation.
So yeah, it's a property that kind of started,
I wouldn't say as a spoof, but a take on Daredevil
because they have a foot instead of the hand
and things like that. And then it's probably...
Arguably the most successful independent comic
book franchise ever I mean it's the most this
movie is the most successful independent movie
ever at least it was as a few years ago And then
just considering how big this franchise continues
to be even though it may not count called independent
But it started, you know, just two dudes in there
You know at their house making it it started
as a small indie hit and then kind of grew in
comic book stores more and more became a huge,
you know smash sensation with a cartoon and you
know, it just it's insane how popular it remains
I think one thing that the turtle franchise before
you know before we get into this movie specifically
one thing that I Kind of respect and appreciate
about the turtles franchise is there if if done,
right? It seems like they're able to take it
a lot of different directions with still And
it still works like they can take it a completely
comedic route. They can take it very like Fun
kid -friendly comedic and it seems to work for
this franchise And then they can take it and
do a little bit more serious a little bit more
I don't know if mature is the right word, but
you know, they can do a little bit Like that
like the original comics were obviously darker
and stuff like that and it seems like it works
in both respects, which is weird for Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles like it seems like such
a bizarre like yeah, I would have loved to be
the person that got that pitch to originally
like Any talk about what? I mean a lot of it
just seems like the name is what kind of made
it work because for now it makes you know, we've
Forget how weird it is because you have Teenagers,
you know this insane name of Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles But then it led to this, you know explosion
of like people trying to do the exact same thing
Let's just mash a bunch of things together like
the killer tomatoes. Yeah, or the biker mice
from Mars. Yeah, let's do Let's do that, but
nothing really ever came to their level No, no
there was like they tried to do it with frogs.
They tried to do it with mice They tried to do
it with a lot of different things Turtles apparently
work best for so the last thing before we get
into it. Did you? See this in theaters, or when
do you first remember like what's your first
memory of like seeing this? I did not see this
in theaters I wasn't really loved to go to the
theater as much as a kid and I didn't see this
I My first memory of it is watching it at a friend's
house. I don't know if it was a VHS when it's
older on TV Uh, but I didn't watch this one as
much as a kid. I watched these, the one we'll
talk about next week, much more. So I didn't
have as many memories of this one. I remember,
uh, I don't know if it was either. I wasn't allowed
to watch it, which I could see potentially because
there are some things in here that a little bit
more, there was controversy with it. But, uh,
I did watch it, but I was, I don't have. My like
you though the way you were all about was much
more much more about the second film, which we'll
talk about Yeah, I saw but not not a great deal.
I was equally into the second movie I'll let
you know that I definitely was dropping off of
when the third movie came out. I have very a
lot less memories of that one, but I was definitely
all in for one and for two in this series and
What was your kind of so how many times do you
think you've seen this movie overall in your
life? Just like a rough estimate Probably if
I count them as kids probably like good like
15 times or so it just I rewatched it a few years
ago Thanks for letterbox. I know it was wasn't
two years ago because I logged it and this was
the first time since then so And then like, you
know a few times throughout because it was used
to be on TV a bunch So when it was on TV here
and there Yeah, I'm probably the same I've probably
seen it one or two dozen times at least It's
hard to remember all the times as a kid. I don't
know if I if this was one that we rented I don't
know how I was able to watch it as much because
I don't think I owned it necessarily when it
came out but definitely I've seen it a lot on
TV or rented it or something and It's just something
that I feel like no matter when I pick it up.
It's just it's a fun Watch and it's one of those
that I can pick it up and I don't necessarily
have to watch it from beginning to end I can
watch whatever I have time for and I know how
the rest goes It's not that I have to sit there
the whole time. So So where do you want to start
with this one? You're like, what's your what's
your initial reaction? Or do you want to start
with like the beginning of the film and go from
there? How do you want to handle this? I guess
was what's a lot when you has a bit of a lot
while since you last watched this was just like
You going in in trying to like, you know Something
and then because I know what I watched it a few
years ago I was like, oh, I really remember really
liking it and then I was I was taken back with
how much I didn't like it. Oh Which which I'll
talk about none then I didn't like I thought
I was I think I kind of set myself up for failure
right right like was Were your memories what
you remembered? What did they actually match
up with a movie you saw? Yeah, it's it had been
a little while since I've you know this last
time when I watched it this week it Has to be
at least three years since I've seen it if not
maybe a little bit longer I know it was before
my daughter was born that the last time I watched
I believe That could be wrong with that memory,
but I I have never let So many years go by in
between it It's just one of those ones that I
kind of and I don't do a lot of re -watching
of films Yeah, but this just happens to be one
that just always gets put on, you know every
so often So I think because there has never been
that big gap that it's kind of stayed with me
somewhat similar reactions similar takes to it
Obviously at different times in my life. I've
probably been more critical about movies or more
Accepting them for what they are and having fun
with them, you know, so my Way, I watch movies
might have changed, but I don't feel like my
reaction to this film has changed that much Yeah,
I said like I still think it's pretty it's interesting
watching and now that I've like I Just like I
said I mentioned I read the first volume the
first comics the first run of in HP Ninja Turtles
recently and I've never read it before and now
like watching it this with that knowledge is
it was it was a very different experience because
Like, you know my knowledge before that was a
few comics and mostly the cartoons And you can
see like how you can tell this movie was trying
to kind of appeal much more towards those original
comics in a way. I think it was trying to kind
of ride the line of doing both because it was
a bit more comedic. The comic like they was black
and white and stuff like that. So you couldn't
really didn't have the colors and things like
that. The personalities felt a little bit more
of the cartoon, but the story wise, and it was
a little bit darker here and there because there
was some pretty twisted stuff that happened,
which I think is partially why I didn't watch
it as much as a kid, especially with Shredder
and whatnot. But it was interesting watching
it because there is a lot that is taken directly
from that original run. Like their encounters
with April that storyline there's a lot that
doesn't included because like the original run
also had Baxter Stockman and like the crying
people and stuff and gets way more science fiction
and with a like this movie which clearly did
not have that type of budget that we're gonna
be able to do that, but But yeah, I think I was
kind of impressed with like if there were was
no cartoon Before this I don't know like if people
would consider this like a movie design for kids
i think it could certainly appeal to them but
yeah especially as a you know watching like uh
there's like you know rafael cursing and things
like that i mean it was oh yeah you know there
wasn't like he was giving f -bombs or whatnot
but just enough to get him in that reading class
probably and knowing how there were like parent
groups that got angry and whatnot I'm like, OK,
I can see where that's coming from. I don't have
an issue with it, but I could see like people
going in thinking they're going to get the really
goofy cartoon and knowing that like Eastman and
Laird and stuff like that, who were the original
creators had their hands in this a bit more.
You can tell. It certainly feels not nearly as
goofy as like the cartoon at the same time. Right.
I think that's something that I appreciate most
about this film is the blend of the serious and
the humor because I think it strikes it to a
point where it's able to do some of those topics
and do some of the I mean like if you if let's
face it there's a lot of fighting you know, we're
ninjas and we're fighting, you know, the foot
and whatnot. And there is obviously depiction
of all of these kids that are at risk, that are
committing crimes, that are somewhat gang, you
know, in a gang, I guess, for lack of a better
term. And so I can see all that. There's, you
know, a little bit of the cursing, not that it's
like obscene or anything like that. But I mean,
the original story in this, the Tatsu, is that
his name? The Stredder's right -hand man. gets
in a fight with a kid and I think in the original
draft of it the kid dies yeah that he that he
attacks and I think they they decided I've read
somewhere on one of the trivia things or something
that they had to add in like the sound of him
breathing and something else like later on because
it got a bad reaction the first time it was shown
and with him just like basically No sign of life
after that fight, so there is those elements.
I think he's dead, the way they're acting. Originally
he is, and I can't remember if they said it was
a French audience or some type of audience that
they did a screen test for, and it did not go
over well. I think they said they added the sound
of breathing or a line by somebody or something.
So there is those elements that are a little
bit dark and a little bit more mature. But they
mix in enough of the cartoon humor to make it
so you never get bogged down by it. Yeah. But
not so much of the cartoon humor that you just
like are like this is super childish, super cheesy
to me at least. Like I felt like the humor is
well enough place that it reminds you of the
cartoon. It reminds you that this is a for kids
and some somewhat in a kid's story. But. It didn't
it didn't go so far where like it's like the
transformers movies where robots have balls and
things like that Like it didn't go to the so
far. It wasn't like the teenage juvenile humor
It was more humor that would I think work with
parents and younger kids and it to me Definitely
and I think to it helped that it it picked its
spots much better You know, like when they get
it would get you know, we got serious at times
like that whole farm scene I get it slow down
and like, you know, oh, yeah, you know you have
that The one thing that the one image that does
remain with me with this movie There's two scenes
that I always I can't forget It's the Casey Jones
and Rafael fight that always takes in my mind
and also the scene of Leah the you know the image
of Leonardo like sitting in that chair with Raphael
in the in the in the tub Because like, you know
you at that moment like you it does seem like
there's a chance that he's not you know He's
not getting better. So it in that whole sequence
I think was maybe one of the best parts of the
film because it just it you it made things seem
Much more serious than you would expect with
a movie. That's like this I think for a lot of
people because it's like in that. Yeah Yeah,
and I think it did it I think I had a one of
the deeper moments to there because as a kid
who's probably watching this You have siblings
that you've had fights with or had not got along
with or you have friends best friends whatever
type of friends that you haven't got along with
and it was like that moment where it's like No
matter what your differences were no matter what
you're fighting about when push comes to shove
This is your friend or this is your family member
like it's like I kind of appreciated that before
we get too far into anything else I wanted to
say to that this is somewhat unique of a film
from for me as well because I didn't get to see
there wasn't live -action Transformers films
until I was an adult right so or at least college
-age or whatever if you can want to call that
an adult so I When I was viewing those I was
viewing those through an adult lens. You know
the Michael Bay Transformers films so regard
Regardless of if they're good better and different
like it was just a different perspective for
me. The only thing that I had like this As far
as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles being a live
-action film that I saw when I was into that
would have been the live -action He -Man Oh really?
Yeah, the Masters of the universe That's the
only other one I can think of that kind of did
that and it tried to do a little of the same
You know, it's trying to be a little bit darker
And and you know appeal to a wider audience things
of that nature But what I appreciate about the
Turtles that Masters of the Universe didn't do
is that even though it's blending these different
types of elements and different levels of seriousness
slash humor, it still to me felt like a Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Whereas Masters of
the Universe, I was like, they're on Earth, there's
characters I don't know, there's characters that
don't... look right to me you know it not saying
that they weren't allowed to you know be their
own and create their own thing but as a as a
kid I was like this is jarring because I'm not
it doesn't match up in my head to what this universe
is for me and turtles I never got that even though
they do change things here and there whether
they're trying to be faithful to the comic whether
they're trying to add some homages to the cartoon
or whatever It still always felt like it belonged
in that universe to me. Now obviously it might
be easier to do with turtles since it is set
in Earth, you know, and things of that nature,
but I never felt taken aback like this isn't
the turtles that I'm used to watching or used
to playing with my toys or whatever it might
be. I don't know if you felt the same way or
not. No, I thought for the most part they felt
pretty akin to what I was used to. I would say
like the one the one characterization that I
felt, at least not totally was different, but
at least the character didn't feel just quite
as right was like Donatello. I don't know if
you had ever heard of Donatello was mine growing
up. And to me, like in the movie, I know he was
voiced by Corey Feldman and he kind of felt like
a lesser Michelangelo. Like he didn't necessarily
have that. Like it kind of showed it a little
bit when he's working on the car with Casey Jones,
trying to fix up that beat, you know, the beat
up pickup truck. But he felt very much, you know,
they all kind of leaned in a little bit to Mike.
They all had a little bit of Michelangelo in
them, right? Actually, like Donatello. He felt
a little lost in the shuffle, and maybe they
thought, you know, there's Corey Feldman there,
so he's the person they're going to lead into.
Yeah, they missed the geek element. And that
just could also be the difficulty of using these
puppet suits and you know They're liking like
we can't have him also like, you know build this
robot car, which I get so So yeah, but outside
of that like, you know, they had all the staples
I would be looking for the pizza, you know, that's
the course of the the key right and shredder
I thought was very You know very much what I
used to. The one thing that was a little weird
was that you know the foot were people. You know
I was used to them being robots, so that was
different, but there's no crying. Yeah, there
was no crying, but as a kid like I feel like
it was going against what I was used to. It felt
very much what I was. Yeah, and as an adult like
if it almost it. It's interesting because I feel
like I appreciate it more because I can see that
they were trying to. You know, I think they did
a good job of like covering all their bases.
Yeah, what it was your obviously one of the big
things that you have to look at when you're doing
something like this And I don't think it matters
which time a live -action turtles comes out or
even when there's an animated form I guess I
think especially in today's day and age And it's
not a good thing necessarily But what happens
is is a trailer comes out or art comes out or
a poster comes out and then you know the internet
Loses their mind because the first reaction is
always just strictly on the visual like what
is the character design? What does it look like?
What's the animation style? What is the costume
look like and it's obviously Gets way more play
today Than it would have back in 1990 But what
was your initial reaction to the look of the
turtles the suits the costume mean that you know,
obviously Jim Henson this is one of his last
projects and they like my mind like almost all
things Henson you can tell that there was so
much work and time and care I think they said
it took like 18 weeks to just make the the mold
of it and Then stuff like that. It was fiberglass
and then they did rubber and then they took like
a full body cast I think if I remember correctly,
but so there there's a lot of work that the Henson
company does but how did you think it transpired
because It's a weird concept obviously to have
especially in the late 80s early 90s to have
live -action Turtles, so how do you think they
pulled that off as a kid? I loved it like it
did seem like exactly what like it I believe
they completely they seem to You know move like
I would expect them to I'm now looking back at
it I still think it holds up really well for
the most part I think the one place where it
struggles the most is probably when it comes
to like, you know Talking and things like that.
Like I know they shot it at a different speed
to try to speed it up Right to try to make it
seem A little bit more crisp and it works for
the most part. I do think like that's the one
time when it didn't always Work because like
it's also hard to make Turtles mouths move in
general let alone, you know, like it's it, you
know, it never took me out, but it definitely
feels like That would be the one knock I would
say like the yeah them them trying to communicate
they were it was good though at a time is showing
emotion surprisingly enough like the one time
like There they have the uh, they're actually
crying because um, they're meditating and bringing
in a splinter I'm like, oh well, there's actually
a decent amount of motion there, which is pretty
impressive for a giant turtle puppet So I think
there's a lot to be impressed by it wasn't perfect,
but I like I don't think you could have done
any better than they did Yeah, I think they somehow
I don't know if they took classes or got tips
But it seems like they did did a lot of emotions
with their arms and with their bodies, you know
Obviously they were limited in what they could
do I thought splinter for me even though it's
Kevin Clash is one of the puppeteers I think
I said they took like three different people
to do splinter and that one to me was the one
that was a tiny bit jarring at times just because
it just seemed like it wasn't quite as fluid
and the turtles they seem to Either be not as
close up to him at times or they they just masked
it a little bit better But anytime I want to
be critical about any of the visuals in this
I just think about the next mutation cartoon
that came out like years later and looked like
so much worse It looked like a Chuck E Cheese
like version of this or whatever I think the
way it was shot helped to because it was a bit
darker and like had it they were able to you
know hide it pretty well, but yeah the Splinter
seems frail like he seems very I mean he's supposed
to but then when he gets into the Actually the
action later in the film it you know, it's a
bit stiff, but you know, right I think something
about the mouth movements and the eyes were just
a little bit off to me not like bad But it's
just like this doesn't look like a rat. He looks
more like yeah, that's true like a gopher. I
don't know You don't want you know, you don't
want this thing to like you scare people so you
kind of make it Right. It's got to look like
the good guy. It can't look like the villain.
So obviously you talked about how they did do
some things that were based on more of the comic
origins, some things that were more true to the
cartoon. I know one thing that some people might
have been thrown back by if they were being super
critical. As a kid I didn't know any of that.
I didn't put two and two together. But like Splinter's
backstory is different in this than what some
people were probably used to going in. Cause
I believe, is it the cartoon or the comic where
he is the adult version? In the cartoon, he's
an adult who turns into a rat. So the movie is
different. Honestly, it's weird. I can't tell
which one I prefer. It is kind of weird that
he's just as a rat learns karate. But he's just
a normal rat. That's a great scene when he's
mimicking the guy in the cage. That's fantastic.
I do like, I do think it was a shot interesting
too, like those dream sequences where it's like,
there's no background. It's just, but yeah. As
a kid, I remember as a kid being really confused
because I'm like, wait, cause you know, he was
like, he was an adult, but it didn't, it wasn't
that, you know, it didn't attract that much.
I don't know which one makes more sense, you
know, because a person turning into a rat or
a rat. Learning I think actually the IDW comic
does a really good Job with it because they kind
of bring in reincarnation as part of it as well.
So like it adds it makes it over like the It
goes back into like feudal Japan and like how
it's like these characters these people are being
reincarnated from These these other individuals
from way back So it it adds it adds a little
bit more of half to it But I could understand
why they would not do that for this. But yeah,
it's I I get it. I don't know which one I prefer
though. I don't know. Is there anything else
that was that kind of differences or something
that wasn't the same as it was and whether that
be the comics or the cartoons or anything else
like that that struck you you know on your watches?
Not not per se like I said like the the comic
gets into this iPhone realm a little bit more
because you know with Baxter Stockman and those
like rat trap things I forget what they're called.
Yeah, you know and so I Think for the most part
like it's pretty like like I said the how Raphael
and Casey Jones Come together is pretty similar
like they're The relationship with April kind
of falls in line. There's there's a there's some
stuff They don't include like which I get like
I said There's a lot of things that they can
certainly cutting around but I know as a kid
too It was kind of like where's bebop and rock
city and we can probably talk about right or
next week so But yeah, I know that originally
there was like a longer opening sequence where
they actually showed the turtles like coming
out of the swamp Yeah, and and then did like
a long tracking scene kind of taking it from
the swamp into the New York City into the you
know Whatever, whatever, but they couldn't afford
to do kind of finish that for the film. I agree
like you have April She starts off the movie
like we start with the news report, which I think
is a clever kind of way to set the stage and
to do that, you know, without it just being like
obvious. You know, like like sometimes you'll
get that movie where you just have like the speech
come out of nowhere or something like that, where
you're like, well, this is exposition just to
catch us up. I thought it was decent where they
used her as a reporter because that's what she
is in the cartoon and so we kind of set the stage
for this crime wave and stuff like that. You
have her in the yellow jacket, which is obviously
very cartoon -esque. They changed the news channel,
I don't know why. Maybe there's a reason. It
seems like a weird thing to change it from channel...
Three to six or something like that, but that's
so not important Yeah, but it's just something
that you notice but like so I like that kind
of the setting of the stage and kind of how that
goes They use the definitely the cartoon logo
kind of pops on the on the screen So you don't
have a lot of that going I didn't notice too
many other things that kind of threw me off or
that they changed or anything like that When
it comes down to scenes, I know you talked about
those two scenes the one in the bathtub and then
the the fight scene with the Jose can say go
back. That's there's so many great lines in this
movie. Look. I don't want to fight you well tough
rocks, pal A whole sake and say go back Tell
me you didn't pay money for this whether they're
cheesy or kid -friendly or whatever like there's
just like line after line that I love but was
there any other scenes lines moments that kind
of stood out to you that you really enjoyed well,
I mean the fifth It looked like that pizza shouldn't
have gone through the I know like because of
the cross beams and stuff like that I'm like,
why is there one where that pizza fits through?
Maybe one of the best special effects is making
that actually Way better than when shredder throws
the sword at the TV. That is probably the worst
effect of the movie Yeah, which I was always
watching that I'm like why you have all those
TVs and they're all in the same channel like
it feels like You know, I mean it just seems
it was a very that was a very you know comic
book movie or you know very uh sequence the other
thing that that stood out to me because I forgot
I didn't even realize that um because I when
he when rafael says he's going to the movies
I forgot that he actually does go to the movies
yeah uh you know go to go to see critters which
is of course you know a nice little nod uh but
I also think I guess originally I guess originally
he was supposed to go see batman because it was
in theaters at the same time as this oh really
And they had a line where he was gonna say something
like What was it something about like sweet car
but? Cheesy looking suit or something like that
or something bad costume nice car I don't know
it's gonna be because there was a Batman film
in theaters this year as well, but they changed
it to critters I guess yeah, it makes sense cuz
yeah, I guess Warner Brothers wouldn't allow
it or something but I was like How does no one
notice him? I think it's meant to be enough,
because with Fantastic Four and Ben Grimm, he'd
wear a similar outfit to try to hide. It's not
a big deal. But I do also love the line when
he's fighting Casey Jones, or in that sequence
when he goes over the car and it's like, I think
it's a giant turtle. And they just kind of move
on with their day. um so now that one stood out
but yeah my favorite was that that whole farm
sequence even you know kiki jones and donatello
going through the alphabet uh with insult it
worked Again, it was good at picking its humor
because you had, you know, April O 'Neill doing
the voiceover, which is a good way to like sitting
on stage. But then you had one of those moments
to like, you know, to lighten the mood a little
bit when you definitely needed it. What about
you? Yeah, a couple different like line segments
like the obviously the Casey Jones thing is great
like the Jose Canseco bat was one that as a kid
I don't say that anymore, but like as a kid that
was one that we said all the time I think when
they're watching ASAP a Rocking Bullwinkle segment
when they're talking about, you know, obviously
it's Clever they have the hair and the tortoise
race or whatever He says something about like
ninja kick the damn rabbit. That was funny There's
there's a lot of scenes and sequences like that
I was always a big fan of the farm sequence as
well because it really slowed things down you
got to see a bunch of the Turtles and a little
bit more about them a little bit more of their
personality Etc where it was, you know, like
you said Donatello and Casey you saw, you know,
the Leonardo got a lot of time Obviously there
would just see a little bit more deep of his
character. So I really enjoyed that There was
a couple of different fight scenes that were
that were cool. Obviously, there's the numb chuck
off Yeah between the foot and the turtles which
was kind of fun and some of those fight sequences
are just fun whether it's The best visual I mean
you have giant turtle suits and kids and ninja
costumes going through this I'm sure they did
what they could but there wasn't like they're
gonna train everybody on how to do all this stuff
so I but I thought a lot of it was fun with how
they use the props and how they use their setting
and surrounding and stuff like that as far as.
The house and the objects that they use and things
like that I thought that was kind of clever the
sausages links kind of like the nunchucks and
things like that were fun to me. Thought to it
was interesting It just made me think of this
because you talked about the taxi cab or the
car whatever the that Raphael runs into or whatever
and just a random trivia thing that all the Performers
that were inside the turtle suits the four actors
that were inside because they all had different
voices except for Raphael Raphael is both physically
and voice is the same person, but all the rest
were a different Person like there's one person
inside the suit one person providing the voice
But all of the guys that were in the suits got
cameos as like side characters in the film. I
thought that was kind of clever and kind of fun.
So one of them was in that car, like in the backseat.
I think one of them's the pizza delivery person
and things like that. So it's just kind of some
some nice little homages or nods to those characters.
Let them actually be seen since they're in the
turtle suit the rest of the time. I didn't wreck.
I didn't realize until like literally this watch.
that Sam Rockwell was in this book. I was actually
going to ask you that. I had no idea. Note me
either, because obviously he's really young.
Right, I had no idea. I probably watched this
three or four years ago, and it must just not
have dawned on me. And then I didn't even realize
it again like I'm like why does that kid look
familiar and then the credits popped up and it
says Sam Rockwell I was like, oh, that's why
he looks familiar. So then I had to go look and
I'm like, well, who else did I miss? And it doesn't
seem like there's anybody else big like we talked
about Corey Feldman is obviously one of the voices
and whatnot. I guess they say that Skeet Ulrich
and Scott Wolfe are in the foot somewhere. Uncredited
roles that they but they are in there, but I
don't know if that can be confirmed or not But
just another little interesting note What did
you think of the different performances different
voices that acting, you know, etc. Any comments
on that? I thought the voice like the voice actors
like I mentioned work really well. I thought
of course someone did a good job I don't know
if he really it's the character of Donatello
that well, right? I think more if it's probably
a Script issue than it was like his performance
per se see, you know, he did Corey Feldman he
also I thought that did like a really good job
like he because sometimes when you get actors
and voiceover you know roles you feel like you're
just getting the name and the performance isn't
really great but I thought here that wasn't really
an issue because this is really before You know
this is rare for you know like it's like it because
cory felton was a huge name i mean maybe by this
time he wasn't as big as he was in the eighties
but still a movie like this um that people which
was being released independently and didn't have
a gigantic budget i think he even said like he
was only paid less than a few thousand dollars
which is crazy um but but yeah other than that
i thought the performances were Good. I didn't
love the, I think the person who did the voice
for Splinter. It just felt a little bit overly
stereotypical. I don't know if that was, it says,
looking at the credits, it says Kevin Clash did
the voice, but I don't know if that was true
or not. I'm not sure. But yeah, in general, the
voices I thought were pretty strong. I mean,
you're all about voice acting, so it was great.
I mean, obviously a few of these guys aren't
like super, they didn't have like humongous careers
as voice actors, but that doesn't necessarily
mean the performance can't be good. I mean, Robbie
Riss did a lot. Kevin Clash obviously does so
much with the Sesame Street and the Muppet World.
And Corey Feldman is kind of the celebrity version
of it. I thought they did good I never was thrown
off by any of the voice work or ever thought
that like this is overacting or you know like
doesn't fit the the movement or the look or anything
like that I thought they portrayed them how they
were like I said like you said though if Donatello
is the brains or the geek of the turtles that
didn't come across in that performance but I
don't think that's Corey Feldman's fault I think
that was just how the character was written which
was just a choice I guess whether it was too
hard to Do that or whether they just decided
against it, but you like you said they came across
as various versions of Michelangelo But for me,
I guess that didn't bother me because I was always
between Michelangelo and Leonardo were like my
two favorites So like I was fine with that at
the time So yeah, that all kind of worked for
me Another thing that worked for me and I know
it's probably dated now when you watch it But
this soundtrack and this music is just so 1990
it very much is yeah And I love it in retrospect.
I mean it probably wasn't wouldn't work for like
a kid today Like they'd be like, what is this?
But it just like takes me back instantly to a
time when that type of music was popular So like
I enjoyed it like the one that when the song
comes on right at the end like as the movies
kind of closing It's just great like a little
rap 90s rap Super 90s the music I mean my my
kid enjoyed it for the most part which I don't
know if that's just more about My impact on his
musical taste in anything, but he also he kept
asking is like are those puppets? I'm like, yeah,
they're He was really impressed. It's like, you
know his most of the stuff he watches is You
know CGI so like it was that like it still worked
for him and as a kid that this came out Here's
Lee 23, you know years later still working for
kids today at least my kid. So I think that's
right Since we're talking about performances
when I thought it'd be fun to look at this and
just a little trivia spot here again But Judith
Hogue who did the role of April O 'Neil? She
only does it for this movie. She doesn't come
back. I don't believe ever For any of the other
movies, I know she doesn't come back for two.
I don't think she ever comes back, but I could
be wrong, but She said something about how she
was not a big fan of the the violence and a couple
other things regardless of what her choice was
But it just made me Interested when I was going
through some of the trivia notes of this that
there was a lot of people that they looked at
for April O 'Neill So I'm gonna throw out some
names. Tell me if you think any of these would
have worked I think Judith Hogue did great. I
wouldn't change her but they said that they considered
Marissa Tomei Sandra Bullock Melanie Griffith
Nicole Kidman Lorraine Bracco Winona Ryder and
Brooke Shields for April O 'Neill Any of those
think that are you good with what they did? I
mean, they're all pretty good. Those are all
you know, huge actors I guess trying to think
of I guess center this was before speed. So yeah,
I don't know how big she was I mean, I think
she could certainly she probably out of all those
feels like the one that would probably be able
to do that role because she has that kind of
commanding like right kick -ass presence like
taking up her roles and like what are those movies
miss congeniality or whatever So I think I think
they all could have she probably would have been
one that I would pick out of them all but like
you said I thought you'd have told was good and
she did what she needed to do I did think it
was like the like the attraction the turtles
had for her was a bit weird because you're like
you're still turtles So like this is gonna work.
Yeah, but uh, but uh, yeah, I thought she was
good And then we had Elias codeus as Casey Jones
I don't know if I said that name the proper way,
but I loved him. I wish he would have got more
Stuff that I would have seen him and he did do
other stuff and nothing that I saw But they had
some other names that they were looking at for
that as well Keanu Reeves Christian Slater Lou
Diamond Phillips Emilio Estevez Kiefer Sutherland
Jason Patrick Brian Austin green River Phoenix
and Johnny Depp Yeah, I don't think any of those
like me only yesterdays is too short So I don't
think honestly right after like it's cuz you
know, he's supposed to be this hulking figure
I mean he Christian Slater have done it Christian
I don't think they like I never I don't feel
like Christians later has much of a like a physical
presence to him Yeah, maybe I guess I don't know.
I'm fine with what they did I actually really
loved the the Casey Jones performance like I
I didn't wasn't as big of a fan of Casey Jones
in the cartoon But in the movie, I really like
that character Yeah, I don't think I can't imagine
any of them in it. Yes. I think he I mean Keon
Reeves, I don't think has like especially that
like in that era. I don't think he would I'm
obviously joining the guys John Wick. So clearly
he can Do that type of stuff, but I don't know
I don't fit that I think it come off I feel like
he would end up acting more like the turtles
in a way like and I don't think he would have
been able to For me, I wouldn't have believed
him as like a New Yorker. No. Yeah, I agree.
Yeah, I don't know So this is another one of
those movies that is It's been around forever
It was done, you know in 1990 and it's one of
those that kind of has probably a cult following
of diehard turtles fans Etc. So I like anything
of that nature You see this in Star Wars. You
see this in a lot of things This is another one
of those where there's all kinds of things to
really look for on rewatches If you really want
to like if you're a really big fan get like a
guide or get like a blooper Real or something
like a list of bloopers to look for and there's
endless stuff to look for when you're watching
this film like there's scenes where Weapons like
bend against walls like rubber there's scenes
where you can see the person inside the turtle
suit apparently I haven't caught that I've never
ever find it while I'm watching it, but I've
seen the still image of it. It's it's haunting
Yeah, and I think they say that's when Raphael's
in the bathtub In the farm scene at Leonardo's
there one of them like leans back and opens his
mouth or something and you're supposed to be
able to see the person inside and there's different
stuff like that like there's pieces of Equipment
there's a crew member hiding under a table at
one point That's not supposed to be in the shot
like so there's like lots of those like little
fun things It's kind of reminds me of the stormtrooper
hitting his head on the yeah the top of the prison
cell or whatever So there's there's fun stuff
to watch for it on a rewatch if you really want
another excuse to go watch turtles and Here's
another thing though to look for if you're a
geek and you're a big -time Saved by the Bell
fan. There's a Saved by the Bell episode where
they focus on Screech's it's at Screech's house.
They have a party and They accidentally like
break his some stuff that his parents are very
attached to and one of them's like a big Elvis
statue like lamp or Elvis statue or something
like that that exact same Elvis statue or lamp
that's in the saved by the bell episode is in
April O 'Neill's apartment I don't know why I
don't know why they made that crossover or if
it's just a prop that happened to get used twice
and then somebody put two and two together but
that's another fun thing to look for so anything
that prop newspaper that's shown in like the
people use in like so many different TV shows
Yeah, yeah, yeah totally and there's lots of
stuff that they kind of play homage to whether
it be like something that was playing on a TV
or a poster or an advertisement or a movie that
was you know different things that are kind of
like nods to different stuff that they were trying
to like Pay respects to or just be funny with
or whatever So it's kind of a fun thing to watch
for all the different stuff on the backgrounds
or the little scenes although some of them you'd
have to go like frame by frame to see it so I'll
have to look up that that that's still on the
online because I've never seen the the inside
of the turtle suit with the with the guys yeah
you see his eyes it's and it's just it looks
like it looks like he's like eight feet a person's
head weird another thing they did last thing
i want to get your opinion on before we kind
of give our closing thoughts and whatnot is i
read a couple different times where they had
to change the height of the turtles so in the
cartoon they're more depicted at like four or
five foot Shorter than most of the other humans
and most of the other things that they're up
against and obviously here in the movie They're
the same height as most humans, you know, five
and a half feet to six and a half feet somewhere
in there I didn't even think of that. I didn't
notice it. It didn't bother me It didn't like
it was a complete non -issue. But do you think?
There was a reason for that or do you think it
worked equally as well whether they'd be smaller
or larger? I think it makes more sense for them
to be the size of it because I mean I meant to
be ninjas and things like that So you're like
this big hulking figure and we'll talk about
that with the other You're not really a ninja
anymore. I mean, I guess you can be but I felt
you know there makes sense and also like turtles
aren't big, you know, you think turtles are typically
Small, you know, they're not so Made perfect
sense to me. Yeah Any other things that you wanted
to point out on or highlight or anything else?
They did also April's van that same van is the
one obviously. Oh, yeah one that's in the cartoon
and they eventually make it into You know the
turtles vehicle, but also it's the same It looks
just like the van that's in the original comic
as well in the original comic. They had this
really fantastic chase sequence and I was I was
wondering maybe if they had more of a budget
if they would have done something similar But
of course, you know, it didn't happen But but
yeah, that was the one that I saw that I'm like,
oh they have they they did show the van but and
then it quickly gets changed to the truck later
on so Right. Oh, I forgot too. They do do a nod
to Eastman and layered at the end to when the
when Sam Rockwell's telling the chief of police
where the warehouse is He said something about
like it's on the east Go to the East End or the
East Side on Lairdman Street or something like
that or Laird Street, Lairdman Street, something
like that. So a lot of that was kind of clever
and fun. I enjoy this film. I know it's not like
an Oscar -winning movie or anything like that,
but I, every time I watch it, I have fun with
it. I don't know if it's nostalgia or just feeling
like back when I was a kid and having the fun
with it back then, but I still appreciate the
humor. I still laugh at the lines, even though
I've heard them a hundred times. Is a bunch of
a cheesy when it comes to some of the action
and the fact that they're up against kind of
a Pretty tough task when they're in these turtle
suits Which are obviously not easy to maneuver
with and they're doing all these fight scenes
and they did what they could obviously like you
said with the Changing of the the frame rate
and things of that nature to make it looks like
it was a little bit better But it all kind of
works for me. There's a couple spots where you're
like Oh splinter looks a little odd or that knife
into the TV. It's totally cheesy looking But
overall, I think it works for me. And I don't
know if it was just because I was so thrown off
by the Masters of the Universe film that this
one comes out and I'm like, oh, this is how it
should have been like this works. Like this is
that universe. This is that world. And this movie,
at least as a kid, worked well for me. And it
had me super pumped about the second one when
it came out. I had a different reaction as we
go through all these films to each one of them.
But this one had me really excited about the
second one. Yeah, I think it's. It's really ambitious
when you go back and you think about this movie
that like the you know Obviously working with
henson was a huge benefit and they certainly
did a remarkable more remarkable job thinking
about what Making this actually work and you
think if this came out in 1990 the cartoon was
only like a year old it was popular but still
like who knew like considering the amount of
work that went into this before it was released
like Probably had no idea. Like what are we even
doing here? So I like it was A lot of them you
can tell there's a lot ambition. They took a
lot of chances And it also feels just genuine
genuine like it's not a movie That's like ashamed
of itself like it real slightly like it realized
what it's it what it is and it's kind of proud
of that and like in a way like I feel like sometimes
movies will Do the thing where they always try
to like make fun of themselves or be like shameful
even like with superhero films today like But
with this I never really got that and like I
said I do feel like the characterization is really
strong. Even if I had my issues with it, they
feel like actual brothers It's a fun time and
you know, it has its issues. It's not like, you
know, this is like you mentioned It's not a movie
I put up for oscars or anything like that or
say like but I would put it up for oscars when
it comes to like, you know special effects, uh,
even if they're, you know dudes stage hands in
the background, uh, but uh, but also uh sound
and engineering like that. I thought was done
pretty well. So Overall it and I think especially
if you like put this up against all the movies
that have come out based on cartoons. Yes. Oh
my goodness. Yeah That's like a whole different
list that I don't know if we ever want to really
get into but like It's a good example of how
to do it at least for a kid I think it works
and I know and I don't want anyone to get mad
at you the the cartoon Technically debuted in
87 But it was only five episodes in 87 and there
was only like 13 and 88 So it really wasn't until
89 where it really took off. There was 47 episodes
in 89, but just so none of none of our you know,
I Got in trouble once for calling something tiger
hawks instead of tiger sharks. I don't want anyone
Yeah, but so I guess so by that time it probably
was at least they at least had it was popular
I don't know, but I'm trying to think of like
how long it must take to make this movie because
of all you know i know like i said just the suits
themselves i know they said it took like 18 weeks
to make that That's just that's just one aspect
of the film. You know what I mean? Like there's
so much more to go into it It was I guess we
should mention that it was a box office success
I know you kind of said at one point that you
mentioned that it was the best in the independent
film for a while. That's grossing Yeah, and it
was just overall even without that It was like
the budget as far as like the online sources
say the budget was like 13 million. Obviously
that doesn't the the Got like a 40 something
percent on Rotten Tomatoes or something like
that I feel like I feel like when it's a called
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are gonna come out
with their you know with their knives out as
you know, but Right, right. I don't know. I feel
like when it comes to I've watched a lot of bad
bad family films I've watched a lot of like we've
watched a lot of bad video game movies Which
I think you can kind of put this in a similar
category and it's like leaps and bounds above
all the above most of those Right and some of
the it's weird when adults like take themselves
too serious or take movies too serious like a
and not judge it for what it was trying to be
I guess like I don't know some of the critiques
on that I read a little bit weird one of them
was like saying that none of the turtles had
like any personality or something like that I'm
like that's like one of the strengths of the
movie Too similar, but they're also brothers
that only know each other. So I don't know how
different right? I mean rafael rafael was always
a standout because he was a hothead, but Yeah,
right, right, right What what do you think of
their decision to add those few cuss words in
there? Like obviously he says, you know damn
like three or four times and at the end they
say bitching I don't know if that's considered
a cuss word or not But I mean, what do you think
like it seems like every movie like this does
that they all throw in? And I don't know if it's
always to get a different rating in the theater
so they can be shown at different times. I know
I've heard that before as an excuse, but what
do you think of just kind of including that and
what is otherwise a kid's thing? I think it was
probably a conscious choice in the sense of,
especially the, you know, it's one of the first
words that you can hear them say. I think as
a way of saying that this isn't going to be just
like the cartoon, like this is its own thing
as I try to like establish like this is, you
know, more based upon. The comic that it is,
you know the what came before so I don't mind
it like it It's not egregious. I would say like,
you know There's far worse things out there But
I do you think like I said totally it fits the
movie that they're making But I could see like
for some people being like I think that's probably
why we didn't own it as a family because I Watched
that and my parents were watching it with me.
It would have been an issue So I think that's
probably why we mostly stuck with the second
film Which, you know, that ended up having its
detractors as well. This is the most adult -disconnected
critique I've ever heard. So poorly photographed
that the red -masked turtle looks almost exactly
like the orange -masked one. Yeah, I mean, it
is a bit dark, and the cinematography is not
pristine, but... Well, that's what you came away
from the movie with. But also, it's funny, we're
talking about cursing, and then also the fact
that they did crush shredder in a garbage truck.
So, you know. Right. That scene always like that.
I forgot about that. That sequence did definitely
stick with me as a kid. And it was one of those
other ones too that you saw because at that point,
you know, I was old enough where I had seen like,
especially in cartoons, especially when you watch
cartoons because nobody dies in cartoons, right?
As far as when we were kids, like. Obviously
after his prime dies in the movie, but like as
far as like your actual daytime or Saturday morning
cartoons like nobody dies Yeah, and so you're
used to seeing the bad guy go through something,
but he always comes back right he gets You know
upended or he gets stopped or he gets like what
appears to be he maybe is done And it's never
true like he's always back the next week on the
next episode So I remember watching that and
seeing that the the dumpster was coming down
and then being like but it only got his helmet
is the only thing we saw so you're like is he
really dead is he coming back like that type
of stuff but it did have that it did have the
the adult karate master or whatever you want
to call their version of kung fu jiu -jitsu whatever
like just whooping the kids butt taking out his
rage on them you had like splinter like hanging
there And stuff like that. So it definitely had
your mature So I think you're right. It's probably
was like a hey, this isn't gonna be just all
fun and games They were you know, they because
I know like Eastman and Laird had Definitely
Eastman had a bit of a say when it came to some
of the movie I mean I mean ultimately like he
wasn't the person writing and directing it but
I think there were some choices where it's like
we're You know, let's try to make it. Let's let's
de -goofify it a little bit, which I, you know,
which might be. Because the cartoon was extreme.
Yeah, yeah. I've not watched the cartoon since
like, it's been about 20 years since I watched
an episode of the cartoon. So I really, I could
imagine when it's like going back and seeing
it compared to some of the more recent ones.
Yeah, it's like all the way to the other end
of the extreme when it comes to like its humor
and stuff like that So and that's just based
on memory. I don't I need to rewatch some of
it, too But I have like the whole turtle van
with all the seasons and I just haven't busted
them out yet Yeah, any closing thoughts or anything
else you want to wrap this one up with before
we close I'm looking like I said, I'm looking
forward to going because like this one I like
I said, I watched the most recently recently
only a few years ago, but The second film and
the third like I don't think I've seen the third
film more than one So gonna be interesting going
through but be curious to hear what people have
to say if they're if they have a favorite version
Of the turtles because there there are so many
Yeah, yeah I've definitely never watched them
all like in a row or anything like that So I'm
interested to see kind of how they all stack
up on this watch. I Definitely only saw the third
one maybe once and I've only seen the second
one a handful of times compared to this first
one but hey I'm excited to watch Kevin Nash.

Take me out, take me out in power Take me out,
take me out in power You better hurry up, there's
no time to wait! We need help, why click off
a double? Have pity on the city? Man, it's in
trouble! We need heroes, like the Lord Ranger!
When Toppo came pronto, where there was danger!
They didn't say we'd be there in half an hour,
cause they displayed journal power! Now our ace
reporter was hot on the trail, determined to
put these crooks in jail. She spied the bad guys
and saw what happened, but before she knew it,
she fell in the trap and got caught. Yeah, she
was all alone, with no friends, and no phone.
Now this was beyond her worst dreams, cause she
was cornered by some wayward teens. Headed by
shredder, they were anything but good. Missed,
guided, unloved, they called them the foot. Take
it to a rise, and be angry, you then. They mugged
the people who needed truth, then from out of
the dark, came an awesome sound. Shouted, California,
as they hit the ground. From the field of weeds,
the heroes rescued the flower, cause they possessed
the turtle. Are we oxen, or are we howlers? Can
you stand and help you believe in? And find the
strength to do what's right? That's Turtle Power!
Girls on a half shell, they're on a mission When
there's a battle got the enemy wishing that they
stayed at home Instead of fighting these ninja
masters with moves like lightning They're once
normal, but now they're mutants Sprint is the
teacher, so they are the students Leonardo, Michelangelo,
and Donatello Make up the team with one other
fellow, Raphael Here's the leader of the group,
transformed from the norm by the nuclear beauty.
Pizza's the food that's sure to please. These
ninjas are ends of pepperoni and cheese. Back
to the story, it's not hard to find. Ninja's
not just for the body, but for the mind. Those
were the words that the master instructed, but
a letter from Shredder had splinter abducted.
That was the last straw, spring into action.
Step on the foot, now they're gonna lose traction.
Now this is for real, so you fight for justice.
Your shell is hard, so you shout, they can't
dust us off. Like some old coffin table Since
you've been born you've been willing and able
To defeat the snake, protect the weak Fight for
rights and your freedom to speak. Now the villain
is chilling so you make a stand. Back to the
wall, put your sword in your hand. Remember the
words of your teacher, your master. Evil moves
fast, but good moves faster than light. Shining
from your illumination, good versus evil equals
confrontation. So when you're in trouble, don't
give in and go sour. Try to rely on your turtle
power. Toot toot toot toot toot toot toot toot
