Hi, this is Dan Gilbazan, and you're listening

to the Geekcast Radio Network. You are now on

the inside of what I like to call the circle

of trust. We are all connected in a great circle

of life. You know something, Bert? I think you

and I are going in circles. It feels like we're

going in circles. The Circle is now complete.

When I left you, I was but the third. Now I am

the last. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard

about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with shapes.

Hi, this is Chuck. This is Greg. And this is

Dan. We are Talking of Circles brought to you

by the GeekCast Radio Network. The podcast that's

giving you a special super mini bowl episode.

Yes. In lieu of the big game that's coming this

weekend, we thought we would do a little of a

special episode where we talk sports for a good

10 minutes, because we know sometimes it's all

geeks can handle, but we're gonna give it its

own special due. So we're just gonna give our

thoughts on who we want to win, our predictions,

all that great stuff. So, uh, let's kind of just,

you know, we have the Broncos, we have the Panthers.

I don't think any of us are fans of either team,

if I'm not mistaken. I know, I mean, we have

some Peyton Manning fans, of course. Of course.

Can't have some Peyton fans. So going into this,

I mean, it's always good to have a team to root

for. Do you guys have what team you kind of want

to win? I'm just happy that the Patriots are

not in it. So you're just hoping that the Patriots

lose again, is what you're saying? Yes. You just

want a webcam of Tom Brady with his hand on his

head on his couch. Yep, pretty much. And his

wife. Yes, and still trying to unsuccessfully

high -five someone You see they see like him

holding his hand up the dogs walking away from

Shaking his head Poor Tom Brady I'm also extremely

happy that the Patriots aren't in it Does that

make it any worse though when there's not like

the team? You really don't want to win does it

make it any more like you you know? No, I'd rather

them not even have a chance of winning I'm I

would say I know it's weird, but probably once

the Dolphins are kind of not relevant anymore,

I would say I kind of cheer for the Broncos a

little bit. And that's mostly because of Peyton.

He's been one of my favorite players throughout

his whole career. So I'm really happy that he's

there and I'm pretty sure this is going to be

his last game. So I'm kind of hoping that he

goes out on top. Yeah, that's what I'm kind of

hoping for, too. Yeah, so you're thinking the

same thing, Greg? Yeah, kind of. I'd be kind

of interested to see the Panthers win, too, because

they have not been really spectacular at all.

So I'd like to see them win just because they

haven't done much. But I'd like to see Payton

go out on a high note. I mean, I wouldn't mind

seeing the Panthers win to see another franchise

win a Super Bowl before the Eagles. So I don't

know what I'd throw that out there for. I guess

I'm kind of ruined for Peyton, too, seeing him

go out the swan song, as you guys say. There

is something about the Panthers I'm not a big

fan of. It might be residuals from their Giants

game that they went over. And yeah, yeah. Yeah,

you guys played them well, though, in that game,

I think. What did you lose by only three points,

I think, right? Yeah, the last minute field goal,

because the Giants can't stop anyone. going to

that game, what I find interesting though is,

because the week after that, that's when they

lost their first game to the Falcons. And I do

think they kind of exposed them a little bit

because the Giants were able to run the ball

on them and the Giants weren't able to run the

ball on anybody at all the entire season. So,

you know, to me, that's like the key to the Patriots,

to the Panthers, sorry, that's the key to the

Broncos winning, I think, is that it's not actually

gonna be. Peyton, but I think it's going to be

them being able to get that running game going,

because if Peyton Manning is just going to be

stuck back there, you know, throwing all the

time, I don't know if that o -line is going to

be able to hold up against the Panthers. I don't

know. What are your thoughts on that, Chuck?

I would tend to agree, although I think, I kind

of think Peyton Manning has one kind of magical

game left in the tank. Like, he's been saving

up. Everybody knows he hasn't really had the

best season. He was hurt for quite a while. Several

weeks he was out. His bench, sure. I mean, I

guess not. Not on a bench, but at least he was

on the sidelines, even when he was kind of healthy.

Yeah. I mean, the other guy Osweiler was playing

pretty well, but I think they wanted to give

Payton some extra rest. But, I mean, you can

see it when you watch him. He just kind of has

lost a little bit of the touch. And I kind of

remember from like watching Marino in his final

year, like you could just see it, you know, like

he's trying to force it into those windows where

he could when he was younger, but it's just kind

of not going there. And you can see kind of Peyton's

just losing it a little bit. And, you know, it

sucks because he's been so amazing his whole

career and you just expect him to be like a machine.

But I think I think he's got one. really solid

game left in the tank because he hasn't really

had a breakout game this year where he's, you

know, been statistically dominant or anything.

It's been really, really quiet year for him.

So is Greg going to test because I think that

was your quarterback in fantasy, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, yeah. He killed me in the entire fantasy

season. It was tragic. If he does end up winning

this the Super Bowl, he ends up. You know having

that game that you think he has chuck maybe getting

the super bowl and bvp Does that completely cement

him as the best quarterback of his generation?

I mean maybe to some people but I to the majority

people. I don't think it will because They're

going to be they're going to be saying that brady

has four you know, and Honestly, I don't measure

a quarterback by super bowl victories. I mean,

it's It's the ultimate it's the ultimate team

accomplishment I mean, obviously it is a good

measuring stick showing that you can win the

big game and everything, but it's it's not everything.

And I know if I were taking a team, I would pick

Peyton. But I think to me already, he's, you

know, probably a top three all time quarterback

for me. This this game really won't have too

much effect on my opinion on that, which is similar

to I was watching the Dan Patrick show the other

day and they were actually they had Dan Marino

on and he kind of said the same thing like he

he views Peyton as one of the best ever and this

game is really not going to change his perception

no matter what happens because he's already proven

so much but like Dan said play in the game he

knows what he's looking at as far as a Hall of

Fame quarterback and he said your average fan

tends to look at stats and wins and things like

that as more of a measuring stick but he said

you know you know what you're looking at when

you see greatness and when you're familiar with

the game and stuff like that so I kind of go

more along those lines Yeah, not that I was a

great quarterback, but yeah, I'm just saying

like I know. Yeah, he's yeah, Dan Reno. I think,

you know, you know, he might know a thing or

two about football. Oh, yeah. I can I can kind

of not that I'm someone to override the saying

of a, you know, one of the best quarterbacks

ever. But I do think when you're looking at like

the best of the best, even if it's just for the

generation, there are those little parameters

you have to look for, because, you know, Brady

has had. just as good of, you know, single seasons

as Manning, of course, like 2008, like he had

one of the best years ever. I don't necessarily

think Super Bowl wins per se, but I do think

how you show up in big games does matter. I think,

and Peyton has showed up in some big games, but

he's also lost two Super Bowls. One, he was,

you know, he had an okay showing. The other one,

like, obviously he had no time and he was getting

killed by Seattle, but. I know that's kind of

been a knock on him for quite some time that

he kind of folds under pressure where, you know,

Eli Manning, maybe his numbness to the situation,

he tends to thrive in the big spot. So if he

has another horrible game, would that hurt him?

I don't think so, since it's kind of a weird

year. He's up there. It's obviously not the Peyton

Manning we know. But I do think if he's able

to go against that... Mantra of being of choking

and I think most people don't think he has it

in him So if he's able to overcome that and it's

like do like a John way and John Elway type of

performance last game I think that will kind

of make him bar none the best quarterback will

the people that say Brady and I think yeah I

think Brady certainly I guess it depends on what

you're looking for But both are I will say I

know we're talking about Super Bowl wins at this

exact moment, but I will say head -to -head in

the playoffs Peyton has won three out of the

five meetings versus Brady Yeah, it was it was

Peyton's won three and only lost two so I think

he only lost the first two right and then he

went on because I remember The it was like the

two I think one of them or at least two obviously

the two years ago when they went on to play Seattle

he beat Brady in the championship game and then

Believe the one yeah the one when he was in with

the Colts. I think when they won the Super Bowl

against the Bears Finally we can close us up

by just giving our predictions on who we feel

is gonna win this Greg Who do you think is going

to end up? Becoming the new Super Bowl champion

it usually happens where the team that I route

to wait for to win usually loses. So I'm going

to say that the Panthers are going to win. Because

I'd really like to see Peyton go out on a high

take it. And I think they have kind of the momentum

going to take it even though I haven't really

watched football since I got destroyed in fantasy.

Chuck, thoughts? I think people saw what happened

when Carolina played Arizona and just blew them

out. And I think everyone's expecting that to

happen in this game. I just hear a lot of people,

I think Carolina's gonna kill them. They're gonna

kill them. They're gonna run all over them. And

I just, I don't think that's the case. The Arizona

debacle was like a It was just a weird situation

It's one of those things of like the anatomy

of a blowout sort of like how it unfolds like

things just keeps snowballing and it's like when

the Giants beat the Vikings like 41 to nothing

in the Championship game and right people thought

like oh they're gonna do great against the those

Ravens and I forget that Super Bowl never happened

Right, but that's an excellent point. That's

a great example because I think And it's all

about matchups. Just because a team does something

against one team doesn't mean they're going to

duplicate that against another. And the Broncos

defense is a totally different animal than the

Cardinals defense. For those that don't know,

Denver has had the number one defense all season

long by far. They're a shut down defense, pass

coverage against the run, rushing the pass or

everything. They're exceptional defense this

year. I look back to two years ago when sort

of the roles were reversed because the Broncos

had the number one offense in NFL history heading

into the game against the Seahawks who had the

number one defense that season and the defense

ended up winning out in that circumstance. They

shut down the best offense of all time and the

game ended up being a blowout. for Seattle, but

I'm looking at this game and thinking about Denver's

defense, if they could get a couple of key plays.

You know, Carolina's had a couple of close games

this year, but I feel like they're due for some

mistakes. You know, I don't know if they've faced

a whole ton of adversity. And I think if if Denver's

defense kind of smells blood in the water, they're

going to they're just going to go after. Kim

Newton even even harder. I mean, if you watch

that New England game, they absolutely destroyed

Brady like every play they were like hitting

him. I mean, they were right in his face immediately.

Had like no time to throw. I apparently should

have watched that game. I was going to say, how

many have you watched that game over and over

again? Just like, you know, there's a have it

as a screen saver on your computer. No, I have

various women as my screen. So Brady would fit

in then. Well, like his hand on his wife's shoulder,

like badly photoshopped in as would probably

be. Caroline is a great team. They're a great

rushing team. And I just give a slight edge to

Denver. I think I'm I'm actually going to pick

a score. I think I'm going to go twenty nine,

twenty three Denver. Interesting. Yeah, I think

it's gonna be a super low -scoring game. So it's

kind of probably be really high -scoring Just

because Like you said with the Denver defense,

like if I look at the Carolina Panthers offensive

weapons, yeah Kim Newton is like insane that

team has Survived simply based on him because

you look at this is why receivers his best five

receivers tend to tune Tedkin jr So that's insane.

I mean these I think so it's gonna be a lot of

you know, King Greg Olsen exploit Linebackers

possibly if the Denver Broncos can get the running

game going, you know, what they've had trouble

with all year I think it's gonna it's gonna help

paint it out a lot or if they can get the short

quick pass passes going because I think that

if Peyton stays back there, you know, it gets

hammered like Brady did last week or two weeks

ago. It's gonna it's gonna be tough for them

So I think it's gonna be like a 13 -10 type of

game a field goal game very much field position

Mike got just wondering if this is Cam Newton's

year, if simply that. Yeah, the Broncos are a

great defense, but Cam Newton has a tendency

to just find a way to win. So I don't know, I've

gone back and forth, but I'm leaning towards

the Panthers. I think their defense is better

than the offense of the Broncos at the point,

moment in time, but I think it'll be interesting.

I don't know, I'm just rambling right now. I

agree with you, I think. Caroline has a little

bit more of a rounded team a well -rounded team

Offense and defense. Obviously they had to to

go 15 and one throughout the regular season.

That was impressive I do want to comment on that

then being 15 and one can we also make? It seems

to not be pointing out the fact that they played

like one of the easiest schedules in the history

of the NFL. Oh, absolutely They played the NFC

East they played in the AFC South one of the

worst divisions They play the NFC East was one

of the worst divisions and they played the AFC

South one of the worst divisions and right so

it's like Come on now. And they had some tough

games. I mean, obviously we talked about your

Giants. The Saints gave them a really close game,

the one week. And then eventually they lost to

the Falcons. Yeah. So I think Julio Jones did

show that I think their corners, the Panthers,

maybe not as good as they think they are. I mean,

Julio Jones is a beast. Yeah. But so was Demetrius

Thomas and Manuel Sanders. Yeah, that's what

I mean. If Peyton is on in this game, if he could

dig down deep and get on, I don't know. That

Panthers D is in a little trouble. So it just

depends. It depends if Peyton's got enough in

the tank there, I think. I don't know. I have

more question marks for the the Broncos and I

do the Panthers. Yeah Well, they're they're offenses

sputtered all year kind of and I know to like

Greg had Peyton Manning on his fantasy team But

I had CJ keeps rubbing that in Well, I'm just

saying because to relate to me because I had

Ronnie Hillman and CJ Anderson All year and they

totally screwed me all year long. Yeah Yeah,

I had to do Anderson in a league two and first

first or second round draft pick and then to

not go well so and it was I got to the point

where i'm like all right i'll pick up hillman

as a handcuff and So then I got to the point

where i'm, you know starting one of them and

the other one would do better no matter who I

picked So it's really starting to piss me off.

But yeah Yeah, they had a rough year. Yeah, so

we'll we'll see we'll see i'm looking forward

to it But I'm sure that a lot of geeks are like,

I don't care about the game. I just watch the

commercials, but I don't. So for the for the

real question, what what kind of food are you

guys going to be eating? I usually keep it simple.

I'm probably we're going to actually look at

maybe making some stamboli and doing some. I

have a really easy recipe for hot wing dip. It

takes like a total of maybe 15 minutes to put

together, put together 45 minutes to cook and

you're good to go. Nice. What about you guys?

I have no idea what I'm having. I've been trying

to diet and exercise a lot more lately, so I

have no idea. Greg's having avocado and baked

chips. I like avocados. I like guac. Some avocado

and hummus, you know? It's $1 .80 extra. He knows

it's extra. It's delicious avocado. We'll probably

keep it simple, too. Probably get a... Pizza

and wings from a local place here. Maybe have

some hot wing dip and stuff like that. But uh

The classic stuff, you know one thing I'll I'll

mention about um, I Don't know if you guys are

participating any sort of prop bets or anything

this year There's a there's a guy that I work

with that's kind of running a pool where he made

up a sheet and it's like it's like 23 questions

they're all like prop bets and it was a couple

bucks to go in and It's just a big fun thing.

I don't know how many people are in it this year,

but It's you know, like the over under on the

national anthems like two minutes and three seconds,

you know Who's singing at this year? Lady Gaga

actually. Okay. Is there like what type of egg?

type of dress will she be wearing like No, nothing

like that, but it was funny I was looking at

like The history of the national anthem they

had they said like that the average of the last

10 Super Bowl national anthems was like a minute,

57 seconds or something like that. So I'm like

looking at that and like, all right, I'm going

to go under then on this. There's there's all

kinds of things like most of them are game related,

like, you know, the first core going to be touchdown

or field goal or safety. There's going to be

four turnovers in the game. Yes or no, like.

Peyton Manning will get sacked twice and that,

you know, just weird stuff like that. And they

kind of add up all the points at the end and

see who wins. But it's it's kind of fun just

to what will be the first commercial or anything

like that or whatever. Yeah, there's there's

a couple of things like that. Like the one thing

is what color Gatorade will they dump on the

winning coach? How many times will Peyton Manning

say Omaha? How many times? 57. How many times

will they cut the Eli Manning? How many times

will you see Peyton Manning face? With the dark

triangle on his forehead. The Papa John's logo

that appears on his forehead every game. Awesome.

Alrighty. Well, so that'll be it for this little

bit of a mini episode. Thank you guys for listening,

but next time, or when we come back, we will

have our normal episode. So if you want to get

in contact with us, you can do so by going to

geekcastradio .com or go on Facebook and Twitter.

Just search Talking in Circles GCRN. You guys

I am at heroicagechuck. I am at the Crate Forge.

And I am at Movie Revolt. But that'll be it for

this special episode. We'll be back relatively

shortly. Same time, same channel, same podcast

feed. But for now. This has been Chuck or Peyton

Manning going out on top. Hopefully. This is

Greg or Chuck has been taking my lines for some

reason. and chuck just called an audible and

it's been dan and we've been talking in circles

we'll see you next week i guess not next week

but within the few days you know what's interesting

i was listening to that dan marino interview

on dan patrick the other day and uh yeah this

you're saying marino said back when him and elway

were playing each other elway's cadence like

his audible call he would always say orange and

it was like sometimes there was a number after

it or something like orange 90 or whatever but

their their audible thing was orange that he

said that was their Omaha before Omaha so I thought

that was kind of funny
