About this Episode

The crew dives into Netflix's Daredevil series, praising its crime-driven storytelling, stellar performances from Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, and innovative fight choreography—particularly the famous hallway fight. They discuss how the show treats its subject matter with intelligence, the build-up to the iconic red suit reveal, and compare the release strategy of dumping all episodes at once versus weekly releases. The episode includes a spoiler-free section followed by an extended bonus segment with deeper analysis for those who've watched.

Hey, I'm Bryce Carlson, writer of Hit, managing

editor at Boom Studios, and you're listening

to Talking in Circles. You are now on the inside

of what I like to call the circle of trust. We

are all connected in a great circle of life.

You know something, Bert? I think you and I are

going in circles. It feels like we're going in

circles. The circle is now complete. When I left

you, I was but the learning. Now I am the master.

Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard about the

circle. Yeah, I swear the million would change.

Hi, this is Greg. This is Chuck. And this is

Dan. And we are Talking in Circles brought to

you by the EECAS radio network. the podcast that

sees the world on fire i say that because today

we are talking about what once a lot of things

that everyone are talking about you'll be getting

into the star wars trailer the ant -man trailer

but our main focus will be the series that was

just dropped by netflix daredevil it's i herpes

it's not daredevil it's i herpes he sees the

world on on fire i'm assuming it's i herpes that's

that was the first uh Saying for blindness, but

they figured it did not go over. Well, so they

moved from my herpes to being blind I guess I

don't know so like I herpes better It sounds

like herpes brought to you by Apple Steve jobs

and see them come no, by the way, I must apologize

for hiccuping probably through half this episode

It's gonna be fun. We're gonna count the hiccups

together It would be like a Sesame Street episode.

Yeah, with more damn -its. Well, at least damn

-its we can hear. But before we get to that of

Daredevil, how's the week been coming for you

guys? Oh, not too bad. Pretty excited because

last night I got a pretty good DVD deal at my

local Walmart. I found the old Flash series from

1990 with John Wesley Shipp. for $10. Oh, the

entire series? Yeah, the complete series. And

I had never seen it before. So I'm pretty excited

to check that out. I've been wanting for a long

time. And every time I saw it, it was always

like 60 bucks or some ridiculous thing. Amazon

had a couple of sales where it was like marked

down to like 40 and then it was marked down to

25. But I actually found it cheaper at Walmart

for 10 bucks. So I was pretty excited about that.

Oh, yeah. You I think a few episodes ago you

were talking about Batman the animated series

and getting that I don't know if you guys know

but that's all available Amazon Prime for streaming

for free Is it? Yeah, the entire series. Yeah,

I found that out the other day. I'm like Wait,

the entire Batman series is available I unfortunately

do not have Amazon Prime, but if you order stuff

online, it is worth it I order a lot of stuff

from Amazon and that's where you're hanging in

there Greg Do they have a hiccup potion on Amazon?

I'd order it. How's your week been going, Greg?

Fine, up until now. I actually just went out

to eat with my mother tonight. We've been on

a kick of going out and getting Mexican food,

well, sort of quasi -Mexican food, every week

for the past three or four weeks. And we've been

going pretty steady on Chipotle. But tonight,

my mom wanted to try Mohs and compare and contrast,

which has not been fairing well with my stomach.

I was ultra full tonight. So if I if I leave

you guys all of a sudden, I'm probably in the

bathroom. So I'm batting a thousand over here.

Keep a bucket. Yeah, I am in the corner of my

room. So there there should be a bucket here,

but there isn't. But. We liked the taste of chipotle

better, but we like the fact that there's free

chips and queso and better seating at most Today's

movie today's food review brought to you by greg

Yeah chipotle definitely tastes better. Yeah,

i'm a good fan of chipotle moses That's what

is that is that also franchise? Is that just

a local place? That's that's also a franchise.

Oh really? Yeah, they have one in Clark's on

it, and they have one at Wilkes -Barre at this

point, apparently. Interesting. I've never gone

to Moe's. They have more choices of what you

couldn't put in your burrito or whatever you're

ordering, and then you get free unlimited chips,

and then you can buy some queso to go with those

chips. The queso is kind of expensive, though.

See yeah, I'm a fan of queso. That's why I usually

like adobo over over chipotle funny you talk

about mexican food because actually I'm gonna

be for the first time in my life kind of sick

of mexican food because last week I was out of

town. I went on a vacation and it was an enjoyable

experience I went to Miami for the week. Uh,

basically got a place through my wife's work

and we got to stay this little uh little condo

not far from the beach right near south beach

and kind of just all we did was kind of relax

for the for a few days and it was a good time

um some interesting things did occur of course

because that's how vacation goes first and foremost

so we get there on on a monday and we get there

kind of late in the evening it's like six or

seven ish the sun's starting to go down it's

getting a little bit cooler so we figured we'll

walk to the beach and we're there we probably

won't go swimming because it's way too cold you

know it's a little It's too late for that, but

uh, so we walk on the beach I don't know a few

feet and Next thing we hear some grunting some

really heavy breathing and we look over homeless

man completely masturbating The first image I

get a South Beach is a homeless man Enjoying

himself a little bit too much and you kind of

saw what else was he gonna do when you pass by

Dan? Like nobody can stop themselves from wanking

it if they see you walking by I always wonder

that I always wonder that but it was interesting

because it kind of made eye contact and got really

uncomfortable because it was just one of those

things where it's like just vinegar strokes didn't

you with any he turned around and he just was

like grunted and I'm like well I like I started

feeling bad. I'm like I I apologize. I'm like,

oh, I'm sorry. I'm like wait, no I should not

feel bad for this. Oh, I'm so sorry for coming

into your oh, this is not your living room What

is I was thinking though if you're gonna be homeless

South Beach is not the bad worst place in the

world to be I guess, you know But so that was

interesting and so a few a few days later So

we're on the beach normal time really busy beach

and it's south beach. So A lot of women not wearing

a lot of clothes and greg would be having a field

day. I'm sure All right, but uh, we were sitting

we were sitting near the lifeguard stand and

uh on the other side of lifeguard standard There

was this family. What should I say family? I

would say like a couple very european They just

looked european like even their fashion. The

guy had that like like Medium length European

hair with the sunglasses. He looked like a James

Bond villain from the 1970s and a banana hammock

No, thank God. There were a lot of those and

yeah, no, that's not a good look on anyone. No,

sorry But anyways his wife though, or I guess

shouldn't say wife I don't know is his significant

other that was with him His mistress. Yes, it's

my aunt. There's there's tons of mistresses Let's

just say she was very wearing very little basically,

you know a string literally string bikini in

every way shape and form which is whatever but

The funny thing was is that randomly for no apparent

reason and like I said right in front of the

lifeguard deck She just started doing like calisthenics

like like Yoga kind of but like push -ups and

like, you know touching her toes this random

like stretching for no It felt like it was a

practical joke the lifeguards are doing where

they hired someone to do that This is just track

them to see how strong like how strong their

will is Just as this lady is just like literally

bending over right in front of them Like showing

them giving them a free show and it was just

really I'm like is this all right. Well She has

no no restraints whatsoever. So good for her

questioned in Was the homeless person you saw

sitting in the lifeguard chair? You know what

no this after afterwards though, I mean they

might be connected maybe this is like a Like

the guy's just stores it in his head and let's

it loose after later, but no it was And then

one last thing is uh, so I'm not the biggest

fan of flying I'm not like I don't freak out

per se but like I just I'm not the biggest fan

of it So like when I was flying I was just trying

to think I'm getting get my head out of it Like

just kind of you know, just relax a little bit

So I started listening to listen to podcast and

I started listening to how does this main get

podcast? But then I realized I was like laughing.

So I tried to stop myself from laughing because

it's funny, but then I did the awkward like like

kind of laugh but covering it up by coughing

and this like trying to hold back and my face

was making really weird sounds and were weird

facial expressions and My wife said basically

the guy next to me thought I looked like an insane

person like just the looks that he was giving

me So I look like you know I was just trying

to like not laugh out loud because I don't want

to interrupt You know like be really obnoxious

danger of listening to a funny podcast. I guess

well flying Dan, just be like the rest of America

and be obnoxious. I should have just, yeah, I

should have just, you know, took one of the,

a cue from that homeless guy and just like went

to town. Start punching the clown. Exactly. Exactly.

But yeah, so I don't know. It was good. It was

nice to have some relaxation. And then of course

went to PA and funny enough saw you guys, you

know, had a little fun there. Had our baby shower.

Got a lot of cool stuff. We're able to bring

it back and uh, you know Look through all the

other clothes and all the fun little little outfits

you might be creating I'm i'm my wife's trying

to stop me from just getting sports related and

geek related stuff But you know, you got I guess

you guys have to have normal clothes here in

there I actually uh got something for a little

condor tonight You know the name's not condor,

right? Um, yeah, it's officially condor. That's

what i'm going We can go with Condor. That sounds

like a name you would get on Top Gun, so there

you go. Yeah, I think it's great. I'm going with

it, Dan. I told my parents that I'm calling your

kid Condor, and they're like, you didn't say

that to him, right? I'm like, yeah, why not?

He thought it was hilarious. Oh, okay. I'm like,

why would he get mad at that? He laughed. He

thought it was funny. Hierarchy of offensive

things Greg has said that's not even like that

doesn't register. So I know right? It's the least

offensive thing I've said. It's just a combination

first and middle name like So besides all the

craziness that's been going on with us It's been

like the week of geekness that was gone on like

we'll talk about daredevil and that was a huge

thing And just kind of kept topping itself Other

Marvel related news came out and that's like

the the second Ant -Man trailer debuted And I

know, Greg, you didn't get a chance to see it

yet, but Chuck, I know you did. So I'm curious

to hear what your impressions are of the second

anime trailer. I can't do any impressions of

those actors. Not even Michael Douglas? No, I

have to say I'm more excited than I was before.

Obviously, the first trailer we got didn't really

give us too much. But this one definitely shows

us a lot more. First thing that hit me. Like

the comedy in it a lot. I think this movie is

sort of a tough sell similar to Guardians of

the Galaxy Yeah, and I think you need those funny

moments, but also you need those shocking visuals

Like they show Ant -Man running through the tunnel

with like hundreds or thousands of like actual

ants like that was just a really great visual

and Then the other one like shrinking down To

grab onto the barrel of a gun as he sort of somersaults

the bullet that's coming out of the end of the

barrel. Yeah and runs across. I think those are

just those those shocking visual shots that they're

they're more than fluff. In my opinion, like

I think you need them to sort of sell this movie.

And I think they did a great job of presenting

that in this one. I do think it's a far improvement

from the first trailer. First and foremost, like

you said, it's selling the humor a lot more.

It doesn't seem as serious as the first trailer,

a little bit more kind of self aware, I would

say. And Think we get a little bit more of what

Paul Rudd is gonna be like in the role and I

did love them the one moment and I don't want

to give it away from those who haven't don't

want to see the trailer or whatnot but the the

train sequence and like the the cutaway that

occurs like that was Legitimately really funny.

I gotta say yeah That one moment was like the

best thing I saw about Ant -Man so far. I'm like,

oh, this is actually gonna be you know, I'm good

It's gonna embrace the humor Has a little bit

more personality to it than the first one which

has seemed really bland and just kind of just

buy the books I've used to how some concerns

First and foremost, I'm not too sold on yellow

jacket. I the look of the character I don't know.

Maybe it'll work better in context, but it looks

like I don't it looks like a video game villain

from or like almost like a Power Rangers character

villain from from the 90s. I just I don't know.

It just doesn't seems a little bit It's like

that but the opposite really I mean Yeah, I don't

know. What did you think of the look of yellow

jacket? I'm kind of along the same lines as you

I'm worried that this movie is gonna suffer from

the villain syndrome some of the other ones,

but I don't know we'll see like It's tough to

sort of gauge at this point, but it just seems

like a sort of an Iron Man type of suit like

yeah like you really get that vibe from it and

Don't know I like it. It's gonna depend a lot

on the rivalry Between them and stuff like that.

It's too early to say at this point, but I wasn't

really blown out of the water like you yeah,

I do like the actor who is playing the yellow

jacket he was in house of cards and I don't necessarily

equate him with he's actually in a strain as

well, I believe and He's not someone I would

necessarily peg for comic book film, but doesn't

necessarily mean he won't do a good job It's

just I don't know. The look is not selling me.

I do like the look of Ant -Man I think it it

does bode well and I do think the the Like having

the ability to shrink really small Should should

lend to some really great visuals So I have more

faith in it than I did a lot more faith in it

than I did previously But still still some apprehension

there but of course The really big trailer that

debuted the you know, the the trailer that everyone's

talking about is of course the trailer for transporter

rebooted I did see a trailer for the transporter

reboot and it was it was it just sad it just

saddens me I didn't get to see that I saw it

right before her fittingly saw right before I

saw fast and furious 7 and It I'm just like this

is so just it looks like a I don't know it It

just doesn't as if it left you speechless It

seems like they're trying to do like the James

Bond thing where it's like, okay It's not it's

the character of of the transporter and you're

just gonna put in a different actor But the transporter

was never like an amazing character, which is

Jason Statham being Jason Statham, right? Try

to put something else in that role and it's just

it's not gonna work. It's gonna be awful The

action might be okay, but I'm not that this looks

like a mistake in every way possible Trying to

like trying to merge like, uh Fast and furious

with like martial arts more exactly the march

about fashion. If you're just kind of done that

itself, right? Uh, man that movie. Yeah Yeah,

it is knows exactly what it is. That's for sure

The real the real trailer everyone's talking

about is that of star wars the force awakens

we got our second I don't know if this is a real

trailer or a teaser like I need like we need

to like hard fast definition of what makes a

real trailer and what makes a teaser trailer

because I don't even know anymore. Like a teaser

to a teaser to a teaser trailer. I don't know.

But anyways, I'll stop talking. And Chuck, I

am very curious to hear what your thoughts were

on this new and maybe improved Star Wars trailer.

It looks incredible. I don't know. It's It was

just great to hear those lasers and those sound

effects again. It was so reminiscent of the original

trilogy. And even the way it looks, the way it's

shot and everything, it really just reminds me

of the original trilogy so much. I think they're

doing a really great job of that. So if that's

any indication of how that's going to come out,

then I'm pretty excited. But also seeing Han

and Chewie again in there, that was awesome.

I cannot get over how old Harrison Ford looks,

but still totally awesome. With Ant -Man, we

talked about stunning visuals, but how about

the gigantic Star Destroyer sort of crashed into

this desert and it just looms large over this

tiny vehicle speeding across the plane. That

was just an amazing visual right there. Oh, yeah,

that was right. That was like the first image.

I'm like, all right, I'm sold. I'm like, I am.

I like the first one, but I'm like, that image

right there. I'm like, that is such a cool. Cool

looking design. It's like this gigantic Star

Destroyer mountain it really it really like sets

the scale to of those Some of those like space

vehicles because like in a lot of the other movies

you never get to see them too much on the ground

Yeah, like you see a lot of smaller ships that

the Jedi take personally and stuff But like you

sort of see it in that context and you realize

how big these things are Yeah, you know in outer

space. They don't look that big at all, but You

can tell how much influence the internet has

had on trailers because I do feel like they like

purposely plant in certain images very quickly

that no one can really notice like watching it

Normal speed but like you know Once you pause

it you can pick out all these little things that

really you know when you look at it And of course

when it was the one that they lingered on a little

bit was the helmet of Darth Vader It was kind

of cool having Luke doing the little bit of a

monologuing which I guess that's been the key

of the both of these so far is that Luke has

been Speaking in both if I'm not or was there

any speaking in the first trailer? I don't remember.

No, I don't think there was I think it was just

music Not sure don't remember. That's how I'm

having a great memory moment. So But yeah, I

don't know anything else took out to you in the

trailer The guy from the first teaser trailer

we got, which sort of started the controversy

in the Stormtrooper costume, we get a couple

of more glimpses of him in this, and it seems

like he's not entirely what he seemed to be in

the first one. He may have been in disguise or

something like that, but some interesting views

they show, a couple different planets and stuff.

Another huge thing that stuck out to me was like

a brief flash of the the new villain for this

movie. Yeah, he looks like totally badass. There's

a lot of characters that look really cool, like

the. Did you see the look of the chrome stormtrooper?

Yeah, that was that's a really neat concept.

That's pretty awesome. Yeah. So I don't know.

I'm really curious because it's like. So tied

to the original trilogy, but it I don't know

a lot of interesting designs I feel like it's

doing a lot of things and like you said it feels

like the first trilogy just with the the prequel

trilogy everything was so CGI and so Did you

notice the other thing too like sort of when

they show the the army of Stormtroopers like

but this this backdrop you see like this new

It's almost like a new Empire like they have

like a new symbol sort of that was pretty interesting

I'm anxious to see how they're gonna sort of

explain that if that's a an offshoot of the original

Empire if it's like a totally new thing Yeah,

and you see like an image of it seems like a

female holding giving a lightsaber to someone

we don't know who and then of course Yeah finishing

on the the image of a hot and solo and chewy

being home where whatever that means so See chew

chewy has not aged a day Looks exactly the same.

Yeah, and Han Solo looks like he's 90 I guess

I don't know the Wookie is like the Wookie's

age and like dog years. Are they like, you know,

are they like the opposite? Maybe they age much

slower, but I would have thought he would have

a few gray hairs in there During the the clone

wars, yeah He's got he's got a good groomer.

Maybe maybe dies. Maybe maybe he's got more of

a die job. Oh shit. Yeah He's got a lot of feet.

He's actually got a lot of plastic surgery. He

just can't see it. He dyes it with just for Wookiees.

Looks so natural, no one can tell. Oh, that's

so true. All right. So anything else before we

take a break and then get into the infamous Daredevil

series? I do have something that I'd like to

There's a podcast that I've been listening to

lately. That's really good as you guys know,

I like X -Men and I found this podcast that's

apparently been going on for a while wish and

I knew about it before but it's Rachel and I

forget what the guy's name is Miles yeah, Rachel

Scott's arms. No It's Rachel and miles explain

the X -Men. It's really good and it makes you

realize how fucked up their storyline is. I've

never really had the chance to read through the

whole series. I've gotten bits and pieces and

the stuff that I've heard out on the streets,

but they go through it and they explain everything.

I don't really agree with some of the things

they're saying, but they're so delightful to

listen to and they seem just incredibly nice.

and funny that I don't really care that I don't

really agree with them. So yeah, definitely check

that out if if you've got the chance. I don't

have the website written down, but I think if

you just type in Rachel and Miles explain X X

plane. The X -Men you could you can find it.

Yeah, you sent that to me Greg You texted me

about it the other day and I checked it out one

piece of advice I could give is it might not

be the best Podcast for work if you have a busy

job that requires concentration Because I was

I was trying to listen to one episode and they

like they get pretty in -depth of like explaining

the plotlines of they do but they make it from

They do and they sometimes they go like issue

by issue but I was like I was trying to listen

to them like explain the plot and I started like

like sort of Neglecting my work. I was kind of

listening in like I'm trying to figure out I'm

like, okay. Yeah, that makes sense. And then

that guy did that and I'm like, oh shit What

am I supposed to be doing here? It's like I couldn't

divide my attention between the two things like

it gets really in depth See, my boss is out of

town. And, uh, so I'll be sitting there and I'll

put my full attention into it because I don't

really have much work to do. My boss is out of

town. Please don't send this podcast to my boss,

please. And, uh, so I'm listening to it and then

I'll get interrupted by somebody. I'll stop and

then I'll go back to it and I don't have a chance

to hit pause and they'll go back into something

else. I'm like, what the hell? How did they get

here? What the hell is this? Like missing an

missing an issue of a comic book or something.

Oh, yeah And there's a couple times that they're

they're like, oh, yeah, and I was reading this

storyline and I thought I was missing an issue

But no, that's just how this comic went I've

done that a few times But it's definitely a good

listen because I've been running out of stuff

to listen to and I am definitely glad I found

that one I've I've been Binge listening to those

All righty, well, anything else before we take

a break? Bring on Daredevil. All righty, so we

are going to take a quick break. And then when

we come back, we'll be talking about Hell's Kitchen's

own Daredevil. So we'll see you in a bit. Do

you guys want to play Truth or Daredevil? Sure.

I had some Daredevil eggs for supper. Hey guys,

this is JD from the In Session Film Podcast.

that gives us the space to talk about the latest

indies and art films and other classics that

we normally just don't get to talk about on our

main show. You can find our podcast on iTunes,

Stitcher Radio, SoundCloud, TuneIn Radio, Player

FM, and more. In fact, you can just see everything

about us, including our social medias at InSessionFilm

.com. So join us every week. We'd absolutely

love to have you. Bless me, Father, for I have

sinned. It's been too long since my last confession.

I've been preoccupied lately with questions of

morality. Of right and wrong. Good and evil.

Perhaps this would be easier if you'd tell me

what you've done. I'm not seeking forgiveness

for what I've done, Father. I'm asking forgiveness

for what I'm about to do. All right and welcome

back and today we will be talking about the series

everyone cannot get enough of and that of course

is Daredevil, Marvel's first venture into the

Netflix series. I know we have a lot coming but

this is the first one that they're putting out

there and it's kind of odd with these series

because if it gets dumped into one big load,

cue the Kevin Smith joke here but uh... Because

it's hard to kind of talk about so in order to

kind of avoid spoilers as much as we possibly

can we'll be First discussing some general topics

or general feelings trying to be spoiler free

as much as possible But what we'll also be doing

is putting a special spoiler section for those

who have checked it out We can get more into

the nitty -gritty detail about what we liked

what we specifically didn't like or what have

you So I didn't want to give people plenty of

warning if they were worried like I haven't seen

the series. I'm only on episode 8 Don't worry.

We'll specify what to do with people. I know.

What is taking up your time to not watch Daredevil?

Seriously, it's only 13 hours like what's the

deal? Take half a day Should only take you 14

hours to see that like it came out on a Friday

Why you took you longer the Sunday to watch it

all is beyond me But now so well plenty plenty

of warning going ahead before we get into daredevil

But to start off with our general impressions

Greg off tossed it to you first. I'm curious

to hear what your Overall impressions were of

Netflix's daredevil series Well, I'm not the

biggest Daredevil fan. I really got into this

run by Mark Wade that came out recently. I thought

that was really well done. I'd recommend people

picking up those books. But otherwise, I haven't

really been a huge fan of Daredevil. I don't

know what it is. I never found the character

really interesting at all. And it seemed kind

of like an emo book, because if you know Daredevil,

he's always, there's always some terrible shit

happening to that man. So definitely the Mark

Waid run here has been a little bit more optimistic

and a little bit more fun, which I really liked.

But the Netflix series I thought was pretty damn

awesome. I love all the actors that they have

in there. I think they all do a really great

job. Vincent D 'Onofrio with his take on Kingpin

is... Probably not what you would imagine for

Kingpin, but he definitely commits to what he's

doing. And I find it intriguing. I'm wondering

if he becomes a little bit more stalwart as he

goes on, a little bit more focused and a little

bit more... confident in himself than he kind

of seems right now. But I love the fact that

they're going a little bit more into his background,

too, to kind of strengthen his motivations throughout

the series. And then you've got Charlie Cox playing

Daredevil, who does a great job. I definitely

love his take way, way, way, way, way, way, way,

way, way, way, way better than Ben Affleck. So

it's about equal for you then? Is that what you're

saying? No. And just his staring off into blind

person blank space is awesome. I think he does

a great job with that. I'm not sure if it's him

doing the fight scenes. I don't think it really

could because he's flipping around like crazy.

By the way, the fight scenes are incredible.

They always kind of have it in like a little

narrow passageway for some reason. All of the

fights seem to take For the most part, there's

two or three that take place in a narrow area.

And I definitely like that hallway fight. The

first one, I'll say, hopefully you'll know which

one I'm talking about, but I thought that one

was really great. I think it's great that he

shows when he is battling, he shows fatigue.

He'll stop and take a break while he's got some

of the guys down when he can. And then when they're

coming at him, he'll flip back into motion. So

I thought that was really awesome. Deborah Ann

Wohl, or however you say her name, pretty great

as Karen Page. I just feel completely bad for

her the whole time. Instead of a black kingpin

this time, we have a black Ben Ulrich, which

is completely fine with me. I don't know the

actor's name, but he does an incredible job.

Definitely believable as a newspaper reporter.

Then the dude from the Mighty Ducks who plays

foggy Nelson Definitely. Well, that's it. No,

his real name is Elden Henson Yeah, I thought

he did a great job. I definitely every once in

a while I go Oh, that's the guy from The Mighty

Ducks. But it's not like it's on my mind constantly,

and he definitely lightens things up. And it's

fun to see him kind of flirt with Karen Page

the whole time. I thought he just kind of made

it a little bit more light. And then Rosario

Dawson's in there. She doesn't have this huge

part, but she does a great job with it and looks

freaking fantastic. What else am I missing here?

Story is awesome. It definitely keeps you intrigued

all the way through. And you can definitely tell

there's awesome references going back. I don't

know all of them. Like I said, I'm not the biggest

Daredevil fan. There was definitely one about

Karen Page's drug abuse scandal in the comic

books. There was a little tip to that, a little

nudge nudge. And... The guy who plays Wesley

Kingpin's right -hand man. I thought that character

was awesome Dan and Chuck are my Wesley's. I

think you're our Wesley Greg Well, I'm just saying

is as a friend wise not Bossing you around to

do different things and I love the fact that

I'm not sure if this is a big giveaway or not

So you may want to skip like a minute or two

on me here, but I loved that the Kingpin has

a romance through this. And I thought that was

a great little thing that they had in their kingpin

going on dates and everything. I thought that

was kind of interesting. Now in the comics, I'm

pretty sure he had a girl named Vanessa and something

happened to her. His wife was named Vanessa and

something happened to her and that's when he

like really flipped out and I believe he had

a weapon like I've read out You know a decent

amount of daredevil not not a huge amount, but

uh, I'm not sure but I don't like I do know he

had a wife in the comics and uh, there were things

that happened because of course it's related

to daredevil So bad things always happen to women

in that and daredevil comics. Oh, yeah Seems

to be the the the common thread um in daredevil

himself. He doesn't get away unscathed either.

But uh Chuck, I'm curious to hear, you know,

if, uh, Greg obviously loved it. I know you're

a huge fan of things like The Flash and Arrow

and Smallville and Daredevil is definitely a

little bit different of a taste. So was that

a taste you enjoyed or do you kind of prefer

the, you know, the speed of the CW stuff? This

is the worst show I've ever seen in my life.

This is horrible. No kidding. I'm totally kidding.

I Heard the hate mail being written as you spoke

No, I pretty much echo most of what Greg said

this This show absolutely blew my mind. Like,

I watched this, like I pretty much binge watched

this and I finished it in a few days. And that

is not like me at all. Like, let me tell you,

like, I'm not a binge watcher at all. Over a

purge watcher. Yeah, like I I watch like one

every so often or a couple here and there. But

this show, like I just could not get enough.

Like I just had to keep powering through just

to get to the end. It was crazy. Like it had

this hold over me all this this this whole weekend

watching it. I'm like, I got to finish it. I

got to finish it. But I guess I guess I don't

know where to start, really. But Charlie Cox

is unfreaking believable. As Matt Murdock. Now,

I will say I was a fan of the original Ben Affleck

version. I did like that movie when it came out.

I didn't love it, but I I enjoyed it. But once

I got into like the second episode of this, I

forgot who Ben Affleck even was. Like, I don't

remember that. It's just this is so much more

grounded. It's and it's more of a crime drama

than a superhero story. Like they didn't go crazy

trying to explain his powers. They sort of mention

it briefly and they sort of move on with the

story because there's so much to tell that they

can't really sort of mess around with that stuff.

But there's so much. woven into this tale. I

feel like they they use every minute of those

13 episodes for all their worth. Basically, everything

seemed essential to me. There is very little,

if any, fluff that they needed to take up time.

Like everything was meticulously executed and

things played a part in the story. Even if it

was comic relief like it just worked It just

seemed like they they sort of milked it for all

was worth. It was really well done in my opinion

Danny talk you talked about like arrow and flash

and stuff like that The closest of those I would

compared to his arrow, but this is even more

Dark Yeah, a lot of people fail fail in his city.

Yeah, this is even more ground. It's even more

dark But like obviously, yeah, it's a lot more

violent obviously because you know, it's on Netflix

and it's not on network TV But the story just

flows so smoothly in this Every character goes

through an evolution. No one really stays stagnant

which is really I was really surprised that like

every character sort of has a journey and That

was really refreshing to see and the fight scenes

my goodness the freaking fight coordination in

the show is unbelievable and I made I know we

talked about a couple weeks ago. I may have to

reverse my opinion about Movies being the best

place to tell a superhero story this this show

may have broken the mold. I mean this this is

crazy Yeah, I mean I will I will kind of just

continuing the champion bad bandwagon for daredevil

and I'll start with saying I didn't have huge

high expectations for the series I just didn't

know what to expect the trail of some of the

trailers are intriguing But it just I had a feeling

it just I don't know like it looked kind of cheap

to me But I could not have been more wrong and

it's very cinematic in a lot of ways I mean talked

about the fight sequences for sure. Those are

fantastic, but even beyond that it just looks

really great and Chaki mentioned it's more of

a you know it's more of a crime story than a

superhero genre series and that's very very true

and you know a lot of people saying it's more

like The Wire than it is like Arrow and I tend

to agree with that there are The way it builds

its world and how it focuses on each element

and allows each element to kind of have multiple

sides to it. No one's strictly evil. No one's

strictly fantastic. Everyone has their flaws

and their benefits. And I love how they've designed

both Kingpin and that of Daredevil. And Greg,

you mentioned how Vincent D 'Onofrio was not

playing it like... the Kingpin we've seen previously.

It's a different take on him. I just love a lot

of the little touches that they've given that

character. He doesn't feel like the fine, the

high class Kingpin. He is a man of the streets,

much like Daredevil, but he's just going about

it in a different way. Like their ultimate goal

for these two characters are not that different.

It's just how they're going about it. And I think

that's always intriguing. I always love it when

you have two great characters that are going

that are in conflict and you see how their motivations

are reflected in one another and how them themselves

are reflected in another and the best ones fit

into each other really well which i think is

what's great about something like the joker in

batman You know Batman's very much about finding

the motivations of characters trying to find

You know procedure the reasoning behind things

and Joker is all chaos and there is no reasoning

and then that's what makes them such great great

foibles for one another is that they are they're

so different but Essentially the same in certain

ways and I think that's similar here Well, the

use of foibles foibles foibles is a good word.

I like that word. I Will say I mean there I mean,

not to be the naysayer, but there are some things

that bugged me a little bit, but it did take

me some time to get into what Elden Heston was

doing for Foggy Nelson. I don't know if it was

just more of a meat problem when he started,

but he just felt out of place at times at the

beginning. His comedic side seemed kind of...

I don't know. It just seemed weird I don't know

if it's just because I keep thinking he's Fulton

Reed from Unmighty Ducks and I couldn't I couldn't

settle into it but by the end he actually I really

love the relationship between the foggy Nelson

and Matt Murdoch and especially like my maybe

my second favorite episode maybe even favorite

episode is episode 11 and I don't always seem

to give anything away but you know Nelson v Murdoch

episode and that to me was one of the the best

moments for both of those actors and You make

a good point, Chuck, where you say that there's

not a wasted moment. And for the most part, there

isn't. I do think, though, that if I was going

to say one negative, and we can probably get

more into this when we get into spoilers, I will

say like the final maybe two episodes which were

good, but maybe not as strong as I think it started

off really strong. And it just it kind of peaked,

I would say, at episode 11. And 12 and 13 didn't

have the emotional weight that I was looking

for that was previously there. It was still good.

But Kind of just suffers by comparison. So by

itself, it's really good But I just not as I

just think I was hoping for it to kind of keep

going up and it just kind of stayed Quality why

I stayed like around the same or a little dropped

a little bit But overall, I really really loved

the series and it's one of the best things I

see TV wise if you want to say it's TV I don't

want to call it but a highly recommend it to

anyone. It's Am super the only thing that that

bothers me is that it's gonna be so long until

we get another season of it it just yeah, I know

it's the the I guess that's kind of the kind

of a question we can start talking about a little

bit and and that's like this format of Dumping

13 episodes all at once in the gap we get to

see it all but do you think there's there's any

benefit to like having the Something like arrow

where you get you kind of get to celebrate it

Inflash you celebrate it throughout the year

because you get those little tidbits of things

to come and you get those little previews of

stuff That's coming up in a few weeks. So it's

almost like a You know year -long amount of reveals

where this is just like, you know, it's a week

of greatness But then you don't you have to wait

till another year until you get more, you know

Is is there any downside to that? Do you guys

think? I don't know. It's it's sort of a like

the way I went into it was To me, this was like

a movie release, sort of. I looked forward to

it just like I do for the movies. And, you know,

when they come out with a sequel for one of the

movies, it's usually about two years before that

comes out. So I sort of looked at it that way

as a show. I probably would prefer more of the

weekly release thing. But I think also there's

a fine line there, though, because he sort of.

Guess with this more condensed version. It's

it's more like laser focused on what it's doing

and like I think if it's strung out over half

a year Maybe maybe they sort of lose that momentum,

you know halfway through the season or something

and that would be a real shame to happen but

I Don't know. What what do you guys think Greg?

I know you're you're tend not to watch shows

when they come out You tend to like wait till

they're at hit Netflix. So I'm guessing for you.

It's not it doesn't really affect you either

way Yeah, I like binge watching because I know

when they're on and I can just go through I don't

have to remember what happened in less last episode

and Then everything becomes a mystery to me.

I could kind of go straight through and I get

all the connections and everything I just find

it a little bit easier for Maya my brain that's

a little lacking, apparently. I tend to lean

that way, too. And I think you get you make a

good point, Chuck, where you almost look at as

a movie release. And I think that's very true.

It's it is, you know, a very much a 13 hour movie.

And honestly, I think I prefer it this way. I

prefer the Daredevil way just because I think

not necessarily and how we consume it. But more

so because people have created the show knowing

that they have 13 episodes, no matter what. They

don't have to worry about ratings. They don't

have to worry about the show might get canceled

or the third three episodes. And maybe we need

to like, well, you have to kind of cater your

storytelling to fit. an audience and kind of

adjust to get more ratings because maybe you

aren't willing to take some time to tell a story

or something like that. I think with the Netflix

method, you have more freedom. You can just do

whatever you want. You don't have to worry about

the what ifs or the other factors outside of

just making your movie or making your series.

But with like Arrow and The Flash, I think that's

a huge concern where you have to account for

that. You have to kind of think, OK, well, you

want to Leave our midseason break like this and

it's very calculated and it's storytelling in

this necessarily always a great reflection of

what you want to say but just how you want to

Get more attention. I think there is some negative

consequences there just in the framework of movie

TV making And it doesn't always it's always a

negative sometimes it can be a positive I think

having 13 episodes allows you to cut the fat

and with something like arrow in the flash where

you have 24 Episodes or what have you I think

you end up getting a lot of not a lot of but

you run the risk of just having to have those

filler episodes that Don't really do much With

13 episodes, you can have the same budget, but

do more. I mean, if you had 24 episodes, you

couldn't do fight scenes like Daredevil does.

I mean, Arrow has pretty good action sequences,

but when you have to do 24 episodes, 24 hours

of television, it's tough to kind of have high

quality action like you do with Daredevil. That's

a good point. I think another thing to remember

too is... And I actually read this this week,

but one of the main reasons that Marvel did it

in this format, and I had never thought of this,

but they wanted to release them all at once so

that Daredevil's character and his story and

everything is sort of out there in their universe.

And they're keeping in mind the interaction with

their other properties. So you have sort of like,

you have something that's finished. as the future

Marvel movies are being made right now. So if

they want to incorporate some of those things

into those movies, they have the freedom to do

that. Whereas like a show that's that would be

drawn out over six or seven months, there's a

tight like time schedule making those movies.

And if those things aren't revealed yet or out

yet, it's a little bit tougher to coordinate.

And I think that was a big reason. Um, that they

sort of did it this way because it was tough

with like agents of shield to coordinate things.

They still managed to do some things, but, um,

this way, like everyone's aware of it and they

can get some crossover things in there easier,

even if it's just referencing things that happened,

not necessarily bringing on actors to crossover,

but that's interesting. I didn't even think about

it, but that does make sense. You don't have

to worry about what's happening in six months

because you can just do it all one day really

so yeah, that's interesting you talk about crossovers

and I think that's another good point to bring

up is we talked about how dark and gritty this

is how violent it is It's not it's unlike anything

Marvel has done It does not have the sheen of

of the other Marvel properties which tend to

be more bright and cheery and this is not like

that and you talk about crossovers, considering

how drastic a difference you have between Daredevil

and something like Iron Man or the Avengers coming

up, would it be weird at all knowing the world

that Daredevil lives in, that seeing him in an

Avengers movie, do you think that would work

or would it just be too off -putting? I think

they're coming from two different worlds. Like

Daredevil is a street character, and sometimes

when you're on the street level, it's a little

bit more dirty, a little bit more gritty. And

then when you get, when you step further away

from something, kind of like the Avengers are,

things look nicer. Like if you walk in a car,

but there's still a little... dirt on and stuff.

You could see that close up like Daredevil is,

but when you're far away like the Avengers, like

a couple feet back, oh, looks pretty good. So

I think it's kind of like that. And maybe because

they've got the support and everything, they've

got help. to come together and do stuff like

that. And it's a little bit higher crime than

what Daredevil is doing. He's got people on the

streets selling drugs and stuff like that. And

the people that the Avengers are dealing with

are more interested in role domination type of

stuff. So it's two different types of crime that

they're going after. So I don't think it would

be that jarring. What about you, Chuck? Mean,

I definitely agree with Greg. They're totally

different styles and it would be really tough

to see Just daredevil pop up in an Avengers movie.

But um, I think I think that's That's because

of where the show that at this point I think

it's it's heading in that direction eventually

though And I know like, you know later on when

we do some spoilers we can get into some Easter

egg stuff But I think they're heading toward

that direction. They started out very grounded

very street level I think over time, some things

will mesh together and he might be a good addition

into some other things. But, you know, you also

have the Defenders miniseries that they're possibly

planning on doing with all four of their characters

from the Netflix shows. Iron Fist and Luke Cage

and Jessica Jones and stuff. So, you know, you

sort of have the Avengers and the Defenders,

like they have stuff there that they could pull

from if they need. to that they're going to be

able to sort of cherry pick what they want to

put in there. But at least everything is is laid

out and they they have options. So, yeah, I guess

the way I was kind of thinking of it is looking

at an action sequence that takes place in this

and then trying to put in like Captain America

fighting alongside of their devil and just feeling

how weird that would be. So I just wondering

if you like seeing. This daredevil character

in an action sequence like you would see in the

Avengers what it just seemed kind of odd because

you're just thinking of everything you've seen

him do previously and it it's like taking it

like a I'm trying to think of a way I could say

this that would make sense. It's like taking

a Fast and Furious character and putting him

into, like, the Godfather or something like that,

like something that's really serious, and would

it seem out of place? Maybe there's ways of doing

it, and like you mentioned, Chuck, I think Daredevil,

the way it's going, it's pointing to that maybe

it is kind of... Getting going to get into more

of the comic book ness of daredevil There's certainly

a lot of a lot of signs that it's gonna get a

little bit more Let's say superhero II I guess

and not lose that grit. So I think you guys make

a good point there I'm saying this is my first

thought as well. They do in the comics all the

time, you know, they you know comic book characters

like Punisher came up with other characters and

it happens all the time so maybe it will work

and uh i know they haven't said at this point

if daredevil would be in the civil war series

but i'd be interested and i think it could maybe

give that series more weight or at least maybe

make some more references and stuff like that

i don't know i'd be interested in seeing how

this is all going to play out so but uh yeah

right now if if you were to see Daredevil come

into Avengers. It would be two totally contrasting

things. It would it would be rather jarring to

sort of I mean just just look at the things they

showed in the daredevil show and like, you know

Some couple scenes are sort of disturbing to

be honest The violence bother any of you guys

because it does get rather graphic, especially

within the first I mean, I think the probably

the most violent I don't know if it's questionable

but One of the most violent sequence I could

think of is like in I think it's episode three

in the bowling alley Yeah, I don't know like

did you guys think that and the suicide later

in the episode? Yeah Did you guys think maybe

that it went a little bit too far with that at

all? Or do you think it was fitting for what

they were doing? I thought Initially when I first

saw it, I thought they were going a tad too far.

I thought they could have done some more like

Sort of suggestive shots like You know, maybe

maybe showing like a silhouette or just showing

Painting away and just show it like having the

sounds like you could hear what's happening or

something, right? I thought it was like initially

it was kind of disturbing to me like they're

showing, you know blood splatter back on their

face and like, you know It was it was kind of

crazy, but I guess I'm not really used to watching

those sort of shows probably I guess some other

people are but I think You know, there was only

a couple of moments like that in the show, so

it didn't really have too big of an effect, I

guess. Greg, what did you think? Yeah, violence

and suicide bothered me at all, for the most

part. Like, give me more. The suicide scene,

I thought, was incredible. It kind of left me

with my mouth open a little bit, but I like it

when somebody can do something that's a little

bit jaw -dropping for me, so I kind of... Appreciated

it. So I don't know. I the violence doesn't bother

me that much Yeah, at first is mostly shocking

because it's like I didn't expect Marvel to go

there Yeah, and I don't think they they did it

too often. It wasn't like an overload It wasn't

like The Walking Dead were not that I make sense

in The Walking Dead considering it does on be

show But it wasn't like you see planes Rain splattering

every every episode I think it's reserved for

the right moments and I think it just if anything

I think it adds tension to some of the fights

because you see how much damage that uh That

matt murdoch adores and uh, yeah and speaking

of which I I love the fighting style that they

gave him in this and how you see the influence

of Of like boxing and martial arts and stuff

like that and his fighting moves like that to

me was awesome I just uh, there's so much goodness

in those action sequences where you see them

parkour parkour No, there was no parkour, which

I was happy about. No jumping from buildings.

But any other thoughts or anything before maybe

we get into more of gory details? I did want

to continue what you're saying there, Dan, about

the fight, the fighting style a little bit. Because

I know Greg mentioned before about him having

a stunt double, and he did, in fact, have a stunt

double. His name is Chris Brewster, but. He sort

of came in for a lot of those fancy flip kicks

and stuff like that But Charlie Cox did do a

fair amount of training himself and they sort

of sort of made a specific training routine for

him like you mentioned the boxing to sort of

reflect the influence of his father and they

did this They did this like Filipino fighting

style. I forget the name of it exactly Kali or

something like that, but um it was they sort

of mixed like two or three martial arts in together

and uh so for like the hand -to -hand scenes

and then they just sort of switched out with

the stunt double when he when he would do like

the fancy flips and stuff like that so I thought

that was interesting but the hallway scene the

fight scene that everyone was talking about and

I don't know if you wanted to get into this later

dan I hope I'm not I think we can talk I think

that's been talked about so much at this point

that and yeah people if If you're listening to

a podcast talking about Daredevil, you've probably

at least got to the second episode. It's not

like you're spoiling any plot details. I mean,

there's an action sequence. And even if you haven't

seen it, you can watch it on YouTube. Yeah, pretty

much. But that scene was done in a single shot.

Yeah. it which is pretty freaking incredible

because it's over three minutes long and it took

from what I read that they couldn't really remember

but it took between eight and twelve takes to

make it they said and they did it you know in

a single shot every on every take and sort of

I think it made the exhaustion Daredevil you

seem even more real because he was actually was

exhausted like after doing like ten takes of

this It's like oh my gosh, you know, that's like

essentially like 30 minutes of acting out this

fight scene, but I think It's that was like such

a real scene to like that's to me That's how

like an exhausted martial artist would look like

if he's you know standing on his last leg and

everything but um They actually were able to

since that was a single shot It was tough to

do, but they actually did switch out Charlie

Cox and his stunt double a couple of times in

that scene. Yeah. And you can kind of see where

they do it, like where he sort of goes in and

out of the rooms and stuff. But just the way

like it's so fluid the way they do it that you

wouldn't even realize that they're switching

with a stunt double there. No. And it's just

unbelievable even how great the The stunt double

is doing at portraying that exhaustion too And

like the two guys are just so in sync that you

wouldn't even realize it's two different people

Yeah, I definitely didn't like I mean that was

another the first question people were like was

it one take was it you know, was it a multiple

takes and not that it It honestly if it was multiple

takes it still wouldn't matter to me because

it's it's incredible either way. Yeah I was reading

an article with it was an interview with a guy

who was sub coordinator for daredevil and he

talked about like the fight that kind of got

him the job was the first fight in episode one

and which involves like in the rain and I do

think it's I wonder if it was a purposeful choice

to have the first fight in the rain considering

how much like rain was a key element to the movie

and I was actually kind of waiting for it like

if that would play into a part of it at all if

that we know with his radar sentence or anything

like that and of course it didn't that was the

moment where I realized like what this series

was gonna be and I was really into it just how

it treated his powers which we talked upon a

little bit just how it it treats you like an

adult and in a lot of ways it lets you kind of

even if you know nothing about Daredevil my wife

watched this she knows nothing about Daredevil.

Never was a question in her mind what was really

going on. I mean, you kind of wondered a little

bit, but I think it really approached that really

interestingly in the overall origin of Daredevil.

Smartly as well where it just gave you enough

and didn't overdo it It just gave you enough

and the one brief instance You get one brief

instance of what it looks like and I think it

was worth it So I don't know if that might be

spoiled you I guess we can get into that Well,

I that was kind of gonna kind of be the one thing

that I mentioned I did not like that in the movie

where they kind of showed what he was looking

at I kind of like the fact that they didn't do

that in this movie. They did or the the Netflix

series they did it once and They did it quick

and then it was over and he kind of mentions

it later. But all you needed was that one little

thing because I thought that kind of took you

out of the movie when they showed it in the movie.

Yes, I feel like it's oh, it's a visual medium.

We have to see what blindness looks like. But

blindness doesn't look like anything. This is

his mind's eye. So it never really made sense

to me. to do it in movies or TV shows. It's going

to be different for everybody, you know? Yeah,

exactly. And so I thought it was good that they

just kind of go, OK, here's like what was maybe

like five seconds total that they showed you

what he saw. But that was it. And when they talk

about it later, it was just a mention. They didn't

have to go in to see it. But I found that really

annoying about the movie. And I love the way

they handled it here. Yeah, I totally agree with

that the world's on fire. He's got I herpes I'm

sure you guys will be happy to know too that

this fight coordinator is gonna be working on

the Deadpool movie So if that's an indication

that that's nice awesome as well. Yeah, that's

exciting. That's very cool It's good to know

good to know for sure If you want to hear more

of our thoughts on Daredevil, more of our spoiler

take, what I'll be doing is I'll put a little

bit of an extra bonus at the end of the episode.

So if you want to hear more of those thoughts,

if you've seen the series, you want to hear more

great detail, stay tuned after the end credits

and we'll be there for you. We did have some

little bit more news we wanted to talk about

before we get to our final letter. And Greg,

I think you mentioned you wanted to talk about

something real quick regarding recent X -Men

casting. Yeah, I just wanted to know your guys'

feeling on the recent casting for X -Men Age

of Apocalypse. They have actually casted Psylocke,

and it was quite a surprise to me who will be

playing Psylocke, and that is Olivia Munn. I

was actually really surprised to see that too.

I don't really know much about her, to be honest.

I know she's dating Aaron Rodgers. That's about

it. But so maybe he can sort of teach her how

to throw the psychic spikes a little bit better.

But now I'm curious to see how she does. I haven't

really seen her do anything else, so I'm not

sure how to gauge it. But I'm guessing you're

pretty excited about it, Craig. I'm excited because

she's cute. I've never really seen her act anything

where I was. Excited about her acting skills.

I she's a comedian and she's good. She's jokey

and fun. I liked her hosting Attack of the show,

but there was nothing else I've seen her in that

really gets me too excited. She's just Kind of

eye candy for me for the most part. I will say

she's legit Legitimate actress because I do watch

the newsroom and she's a major character in that

and she's actually been quite good So I do think

she is she does have pretty good acting ability

So I think she's kind of proven herself in that

which is obviously a lot different role in Psylocke

But I think she is kind of shown she can you

know play? She's more than just like a host but

she can be a real actress and she was even in

Magic Mike for a brief moment and she was, you

know, good in her role. So I, I, I'm just wondering

why they're doing Psylocke when they did so well

in X -Men 3 already. So why even, why even bother

going after that? Cause it was such an amazing.

Well, I'm glad that wasn't the last stand for

that character. Yeah, I don't know. I'm fine

with the casting. I have never seen a do action

before. That's going to be interesting. Uh, I

guess in today's world, you can make anyone into

an action star, but. I'm I'm more curious to

see like how much of a role is that character

really gonna play and she gonna be a villain

I'm not a huge sidewalk fan. I'm not that I'm

like I just I just don't have feelings towards

her any either way really I Like Psylocke a lot,

but I'm just I'm curious what they're gonna do

there as well But wasn't Olivia Munn a reporter

in Iron Man 3 or something like that? Yeah. Okay.

Yeah, I thought so Trying very it was a very

short roll. I think it was supposed to be something

bigger but yeah During editing she had to get

taken out because it wasn't very pertinent to

the that screenplay So there it is. That's how

they're linking the Avengers universe and the

X -Men universe Psylocke was secretly a reporter

Oh through Olivia Munn and Olivia Munn once wore

like a Wonder Woman costume So that's how they're

gonna combine the DC and Marvel universe. He's

really the key of what we're saying. It's all

right And then they're gonna connect in the star

wars universe because she where does uh, she

wore a slave way outfit She's just yeah. Wow.

She knows how to sell herself apparently Um,

but yeah, so very cool. But before we go we like

to end each episode with a letter and greg You

actually uh have a letter for us this week. So

why don't you take it away? Okay, let me bring

up my word document because I didn't know we

were this close to reading that off I'm gonna

fill it in with a grunting noise Here we go Dear

corporations, let me just say I think it's awesome

when you guys get really Inventive and into something

especially when it's something you've created

and you think it's awesome. We are a geek nerd

podcast We all like stuff like that Some of you

though have gone a bit too far One of the more

recent examples was at Applebee's, and Chuck

was even there to experience it. Our waitress,

who was awesome and fun, asked us if we would

want one of the new drinks they had out for St.

Patty's Day. Neither of us really wanted an alcoholic

beverage. I already had one. I already had a

beer. But even if we did, we would have instantly

been turned off by its name. The Irish Encounter.

It just sounds creepy. Is Warwick Davis behind

the bar putting a green roofie into the drink

and then waiting behind the restaurant to rate

me? None of that seems like fun. We have different

ideas of fun. The past week I have come across

a really big offender in this particular subject,

Cold Stone Creamery. Their size names are some

of the worst. Like it, love it, and gotta have

it. It's totally not awkward telling someone

that you gotta have it. A, it sounds very creepy.

B, I feel like a fat ass saying that I gotta

have it. Worse than that is my favorite mix from

there is, cookie, don't you want some? Which

is very awkward to say to someone, and it's even

more awkward saying it to huge black man with

janky teeth. I assume the janky teeth are from

cavities since whenever I walk into Cold Stone,

the smell can give you a cavity. My other favorite

examples, all lovin' no oven. I'll take mine

with spermicide, guys. German chocolate cake.

Doesn't sound bad, but trust me, it looks like

the fatherland threw the word up. The pie who

loved me. James Bond bucks desserts now. Yeah,

is it possible to test ice cream for an STD?

Guys anybody know And then lastly Cheesecake

fantasy. Okay, that one isn't bad I just wanted

to say man cheesecake fantasy to get Chuck and

Dan to laugh inside joke A less egregious vendor

is Starbucks in their size situation. Tall and

grande. Which is the bigger size? Thankfully

they put those in order on the menu. Not a big

deal, but I would still rather ask for a small,

medium, or large. Screw it. This is America.

Just give me a large and supersize it. Greg.

Of course, there's actually a great little skit

in a and well sidebar in the movie were almost

about the sizes in Starbucks I thought of that

as I was writing this Just I just you know, it's

actually interesting enough. It has a connection

to Ant -Man Paul Rudd see see how that goes But

anyway, so we like to hear your thoughts about

the Star Wars trailer about Daredevil series

about the Ant -Man trailer about the silo Casting

a lot to talk about actually huge a lot of geek

news a lot of geekness going on So there's a

lot of ways to communicate with us. You can do

so by emailing us at feedback at geekcastradio

.com or TalkingInCircles at Live .com. We're

on Facebook and Twitter. Just search TalkingInCircles

GCRN. And we are also all on Twitter. Guys, what

are your Twitter names? I am at heroicagechuck.

I am at their create forge and they need a new

way to say that because I don't like Twitter

names or Twitter handles. It just seems awkward.

They need to come up with a word for that. At

the Irish encounter? At the Create Forge, not

the Irish encounter. And I am at Re -Revolt.

Anyways, that'll be it for us for this week.

We'll be back next week. Same time, same channel,

same podcast feed, but for now. This has been

Chuck. This has been Greg, or Warwick Davis as

the Leprechaun! And this has been Dan, and we've

been... Talking in circles. We'll see you next

week. The sad part is that his job has been actually

taken over by a wrestler. Yeah, I heard that

he really likes that character though. He's always

interested in new roles as the leprechaun. Well,

I mean, you know. I think it's very sad when

they don't let him rhyme in some of the movies.

I thought that was kind of disappointing as you

got into the later ones. He didn't rhyme in those

as much. Did it run into the hood or back to

the hood? Back to the hood! That's what was disappointing

about the big group. Yes, that's the lack of

rhyming. So if you are listening to this right

now, that means that you are the resistance.

No, wait, no. That means that you've seen Daredevil,

and you've seen it in entirety, because we're

going to spoil the hell out of it. So if you

have not listened to it, this is your last spoiler

warning. This is where we're going to get into

the details. Did you see Karen Page have sex

with Foggy? That was crazy. I think you watched

the porn parody again, Craig. Dammit! Well, I

think a good starting spot actually would be

starting that with Daredevil but Kingpin So what

do you I mean, I mean we really got to see a

great deal about Kingpin I mean it was almost

as equal focus on him as it was Daredevil and

Greg I know you started when you talked about

your general thoughts that you really liked what

they did with this character So it's kind of

here here I like to hear more about that and

you know kind of specifically what you enjoyed

about it Well, I like that he started off coming

from the streets like a lower -class citizen,

well, maybe like middle -class, maybe, and just

having this abusive asshole type of father and

that he was kind of a wussy fat kid that would

probably get picked on a lot. And then to see

him go from that to the man he is who's still

not overly confident, it looks like, But like,

it just adds something weird and nuanced to the

character and how he is with Vanessa. And I feel

like as that goes on and like kind of towards

the end, it kind of made him stronger and more

confident because he's trying to do all this

stuff and be strong. for Vanessa because he doesn't

want anything to happen to her like happened

to her in that episode, which I thought that

champagne scene kind of obviously pointed to

the banker. I forget his name at this point.

Yeah, Leland, I thought that I'm like, it's obviously

Leland that switched the drinks or whatever.

I'm like, because he didn't get affected at all.

Yeah, he didn't take a sip yet and everything.

I got a little I got to say, though, I love that

character. Like he had so many lines. Character.

Yeah. Getting my my stun gun out of storage and

actually does use it. Yeah. He was he was good

at first for me, but he's sort of like. After

a while he sort of got annoying to me like as

it was sort of the same sort of I Don't know

the same things that he was saying and it was

always like a sarcastic comment Like it was good

for a while, but it kind of grew old on me. I

guess that's just my personal Yeah, friends,

but The touch on the the kingpin thing I do like

how it like he doesn't feel like you say he's

very much on the streets and he very It's almost

a facade like this the entire kingpin idea is

more of a facade and there's actually a funny

like dig at the old Like look of kingpin. I think

there's something of saying like oh, do you have

an ascot too? And he's like, oh no, that'd be

ridiculous or something like that Love the little

touches. They did like how he knows like nothing

about wine. So he has to ask is Like it's all

like it's just you know He's just trying to fit

into this world when he clearly doesn't he? Belongs

where really with with their devil and so that

that was that was very cool Vanessa and his back

and forth especially with that wine scenario

or he's like, oh my assistant told me About this

wine and she's like, well, maybe I should be

here with him. Yeah. Yeah, she was great Like

I've loved how like they didn't try to Play out

the like, oh does she know he's evil when she's

like I very evident and yeah I'm saying like

I know who I'm not stupid I know I know what

you do and that was great because instead of

like I could have still been the I'm trying to

hide who I am from her but it like, you know,

they gave her retreated that character was respect

and realize no she's a smart educated woman who

just knows what she wants and She's kind of willing

to overlook his gigantic floss and he she's very

gorgeous for this big Sorry, Vincent D 'Onofrio,

but he's he's not a good -looking guy But like

she's she's very good -looking like he did a

good job getting getting that and it's definitely

on a personality Level that they're they're attracted

to each other. Yeah For sure. What did you think

of that Jack? I thought it was great. I mean

I was taken aback at first too about sort of

how, you know, he lacked confidence and that

wasn't at all what I was expecting. You know,

we kind of talked about that. But I think after

a while it sort of it grew on me. And I said,

OK, well, this really fits into what they're

doing with this character. It really helps to

illustrate just how like troubled this guy really

is. Like he's used to getting his way with everything.

He's used to not being challenged. like in his

present life. And just to me, like when he first,

you know, goes out with Vanessa, like he's not

sure what to do. He's not sure at all what to

say. He looks super awkward. And one of the funniest

things I thought of when I was watching this

show was like when when one of the Russian guys

comes in and interrupts their dinner and they

leave and he takes her, basically walks her to

her doorstep like a typical like a stereotypical

first date and you see in the background like

his guys like his bodyguards like kind of hanging

back there and you know they're all like joking

about like oh is he gonna get to kiss her like

oh i don't know and she i was just thinking that

in my head and it was like hilarious to me and

You know, obviously she's kind of upset about

what happened and she sort of sort of feels fearful

too because she It's this imposing guy with you

know, all these bodyguards that came out of nowhere

in this restaurant So she sort of turns and goes

into our apartment Obviously without kissing

him and everything and I just pictured like all

of his guys sort of making fun of him behind

his back Like Wilson couldn't get any tonight,

you know Like I just thought that was funny but

what what I noticed too and this was just my

personal thing, but I Sort of compared that moment

when he was like super awkward Didn't even know

what to say didn't even know like how to Stand

or hold himself like he just looked all out of

sorts, but I compared that to like the very last

episode when He was in the FBI Transport yeah,

and they were on the bridge and he he walks out

and the doors fly open and he stand in there

and He steps down and he just strides across

the bridge to get into one of his trucks That

was that confidence that you're looking for like

it came sort of full circle in that last episode

But I just thought those two scenes were so contrasting,

and I thought that was really interesting. Yeah,

that's a very good point. And I think a lot of

those guys might have been making fun of him

until they saw him take a guy's head off with

a car door. I know, that scene was crazy. It's

like, all right, well, never sing that out a

lot again, because I want my head on my body.

But yeah. There was no I thought the use of him.

Sorry Dan the use of That he had body armor on

because in the comics he's he's just so big that

he's Very durable but in this they have body

armor on which I thought was a great little take

of how to do it and then also getting that body

armor to daredevil to actually give him his actual

Red daredevil suit at the end. I thought that

was a good way to handle that Yeah, what do you

guys think of the daredevil suit? Um, I liked

the I kind of got used to the black and I really

liked the black So the red suit wasn't my favorite

but it worked Yeah, I agree. I was I remember

seeing the first image of him in the black suit

thinking. Oh, it's kind of dorky But then I actually

really loved it and I wasn't I don't know the

daredevil one just seemed kind of weird to me

But we you're the same way chuck Yeah, I I definitely

like started to love the black one and I sort

of was cheering for The red one to get pushed

back later and later I'm really digging this

black costume. Like he's just an ordinary guy

that's going out there Well that obviously not

ordinary but sort of a sort of an everyman And

he you know He doesn't have a lot of money to

work with and have fancy toys and everything

and it really grew on me But I think it was one

of the best decisions that they made to wait

to the last episode to reveal the red costume

Yeah, but I did I did like the red one too. I

thought I thought it was pretty cool the the

headpiece was a little strange at first, but

I think uh, you know Does he have eye holes in

that that headpiece? See, I don't know the kind

of see through it. I feel like it was different

depending on the angle Yeah, it was tough to

see because I I do love the cinematography on

that. They made everything very uh Black like

a lot of blacks in there. So it was very tough

to see if he if he had eye holes in that but

she really Doesn't but then it's like I don't

understand how everybody wasn't going with wait

a minute. This guy's eyes are covered How is

he seeing me? Like what is that? Like I guess

maybe they thought it was like a material that

you could see through but you can't see Yeah,

I just thought that was a little awkward. Yeah.

Yeah, cuz just the just the moves He's performing

in his fights. You're like there's no way this

guy's blind Like he has to be able to see somehow

out of that mask. Yeah It yeah, yeah, I did I

did like though how I did cover his eyes because

it just gave it a little bit more of a different

Look at that. Yeah But yeah, I'm talking about

like the suit though, too I we do get a lot more

Easter eggs that I don't know if you guys noticed

any In episode 11, they do make a little bit

of a reference to Electra Yes Greek girl, yeah

Yeah, and I I'm mad at myself because I didn't

pick up on that at first when I was I was like

so focused in on what was happening in the episode

that I didn't catch it initially. And I was reading

something later and I was like, oh, damn it.

Yeah, that's a lecture because the whole Greek

tragedy thing, I didn't even see it at first,

but it was very subtle and it was probably better

that they left it subtle because that was. You

know not the greatest part about the old movies

Yeah, and then there's like a little bit of and

when he gets when he goes to get the the costume

or whatever He goes into that factory. There's

a little bit of a like almost a hint to stilt

man Like there's like these like legs in the

background, which kind of look like stilt man

Okay, I didn't see that yeah, it's you can probably

Google it there's a there's an image of it It's

not exactly like it. It's like a They're like

metal legs. It looks like They're in and there's

actually two in the the newspaper office There

are a lot of like articles about like the Chitauri

invasion and the hulking invasion and stuff There's

like one about abomination and stuff like in

the in the offices like hanging out. Yes Cool.

Yeah, you guys also notice Stan Lee as one of

the he had a plaque in the police officers He's

like, way in the back, out of focus, very tiny.

I didn't notice it, I just saw it on Reddit.

I didn't see that, no. Right, it's awesome. But

yeah, that was a very small one, the cameo in

the background that was tough to see. We also

have like, you know, we started mentioning in

the last segment about how they were getting

possibly deeper into the superhero aspect of

the character, like in future seasons. You sort

of look at the stamp on the drugs. That symbol

is actually a symbol of one of Iron Fist's villains,

Steel Serpent, I guess, and sort of referencing

to that gal, the lady, which, by the way, I thought

would be kind of like a Yoda character. She's

walking around with her little stick. I'm like,

she's going to do some crazy flips or something

and just kick Daredevil's ass. Yeah, but they

sort of reference like some of the more distant

things in the comics like You know Kingpin asked

her like are you going back home and to China

and she said, you know I'm going home, but it's

a considerable distance further than that, you

know So they like you look at uh, like some started

the some of the mystical cities like that are

involved in the iron fist stories and stuff like

that so you can see where Potentially, they're

gonna cross over with that show down the roads.

I thought that was pretty cool Speaking of mystical

the guys anybody know what black sea or the black

sky is I I couldn't I had no idea what that I

I didn't know what that was either That was I

guess part of it was just part of um the hand

organization like they had this okay, just this

young warrior that was sort of a weapon I guess

but I'm not extremely well versed in the daredevil

lore and everything, but I guess like there's

you know, there's a faction of Hand defectors

that sort of formed another group like led by

stick and everything And you know which would

you guys think of John Glenn? Is it John Glenn?

Suck Scotland Scotland is a stick the astronaut

was He was good. I liked him a lot. I wish he

was more. Yeah, me too. Uh, but I I think they're

they're gonna save him for Stuff a little bit

further down the road because definitely at the

end of that one episode you had him talking to

that mystery person talking about Talking about

daredevil and It definitely seems like an interesting

setup. I have no idea what's gonna go on with

that at all Yeah, I read that that's actually

a character named stone Which was another one

of sticks students, I guess Sticks and stones

may break my bones. Yeah Devils can never hurt

me. Yeah stone was also a character in the election

movie played by like Bob staff I believe but

yeah, yeah It's kind of hard to choose when you

binge watch something but you guys have any favorite

episodes They all blend together when you binge

watch him I like I forget what? Episode it was

no, but I particularly like the moments with

his priest. Yeah, just because like The the guys

like he's a wily veteran, you know, he's like

he's like I'm not stupid Matthew like I know

who you are and like what you do I just I loved

those moments with him and like just some sort

of the things he was planting in Murdoch's head

and like I just thought that whole thing worked

really well. I thought that was great when he

talked about general thoughts I mentioned how

like the last two episodes weren't as strong

for me and I I guess one of my issues giving

me we talked about this little bit was I wasn't

a fan of the idea of killing ben erik I thought

that was awesome. I yeah, I just I don't know

let me rephrase it like I loved that character

and I was just I didn't I wanted to see you were

just disappointed I was disappointing to see

him go, but I thought it was something good to

show how far they're willing to go with these

stories. Every time you're in a comic book story,

you're like, oh, he's a major character. He's

somebody that's integral to these stories, somebody

who's very cemented in that character's world

and so to get rid of him it kind of Let me know

that yeah, you may be You may think they're gonna

be here forever, but they're not yeah So I thought

it was kind of a good thing to let us know that

they are willing to go pretty far to get a good

story out there and Not just rely on the comics

Yeah, I guess I was thinking maybe he would be

like the new agent Colson the way he kind of

connects everything but And I so that was kind

of my thought process the other good like the

only good thing about that scene I think like

Was it's better than the alternative which I

think would have been too predictable because

I was expecting You know daredevil to just barge

in and save him. Yeah, but he doesn't do that

with anybody though He doesn't barge in. Well,

he did it with Karen in the beginning Yeah, just

once in the beginning. But I'm glad they didn't

do it the second time. Right. Yeah. I'm glad

they didn't continue that because then it becomes

predictable and it's like, oh, a good guy always

saves the day. So I mean, it's sort of better

than the alternative. But I was sad that they

get rid of that character because I thought that

guy was great. Yeah. And my other like other

issue I would say is that I love the first fight

we get between Kingpin and and daredevil well,

you know the one after daredevil with that like

vicious fight with the one like hand ninja and

I thought there was like so much emotion to that

moment when like he was kind of just pummeling

the crap out of Matt Murdock, but And I thought

there was so much to it. And I guess, I don't

know, for their final showdown, I guess they

did so much. Maybe there's not much more to do.

I was maybe expecting them to kind of amp up

the action a little bit more. And that scene

was good, but I guess I didn't get the same type

of veracity that we got from the first showdown

than we did the final one. I don't know what

you guys thought about that. No, I thought the

veracity was same, if not more. I got a feeling

of a little more actually because I don't know

because he I felt like he was You know, he was

so close to his escape, you know, like he had

this elaborate plan I get out of it and like

even You know, this is a healthy daredevil as

opposed to the beaten and broken one in the first

fight And still Kingpin's like getting some licks

in on him, which I was really surprised that

because it's this huge, slow guy. You don't really

know how that works, but. But they just so bulky

and so just like brute force. Yeah. And I guess

he sort of underestimated his speed for a guy

that big or whatever. But I don't know. I thought

it was OK for my liking. I did have one. I had

one thing I want to talk about or sort of pose

a question to you guys at the end when. When

they sort of show the FBI agents arresting everyone

that was kind of tied in with the kingpin and

covering things up Specifically looking at Ben

Eurek's newspaper When the guys came in I totally

thought they were going for his boss Yeah, me

too, but they went by him and picked up this

lady. That was like a secretary or something

She was also at Ben Eurek's funeral And she was

the one that told Ben that the boss was gonna

be at his kid's rehearsal or whatever. Oh, okay.

Now, my question is, do you think she really

was tied in with the kingpin, or do you think

that Yurik's boss was really the guy, but sort

of made her take the fall? I thought it was really...

Her since I got that information based upon the

names given to them by the one detective Yeah,

so that was my my thought I think it was it was

purposely leading to you to think it was his

boss But in fact that he was just he was just

a douchebag for being a douchebag Yeah, see I

the more I thought about it I think I think he

was the actually he was supposed to be the one

arrested because they really like focus on his

face and like you know kind of show his reaction

for quite a few seconds and It's kind of makes

you wonder like why why are they showing it that

much and I to me it's sort of like the proverbial

Wiping the brow like true like I just got away

with that one. Like, you know, maybe maybe he

is as well Maybe it's more of a joint effort.

He's just better at hiding it. Yeah Good question

But yeah, I mean there's I mean there's so much

to talk about like I mean, that's probably a

lot We didn't really touch upon I mean, I you

could probably be here forever. Really? I don't

know anything specifically you guys wanted to

mention or you want to but i don't know uh so

which do you i guess this is could be a good

question to kind of end it what uh after this

series are you uh are you more looking forward

to uh uh daredevil season two or avengers age

of ultron uh avengers age of ultron because it's

a little bit more um it's a little bit more um

On the horizon, so definitely looking forward

to that Yeah, and I I definitely Avengers for

me Just because it's a lot of a lot more characters

that I love and the interaction of those characters,

but not only that I think I Guess sort of an

early prediction While I think that the next

season of Daredevil will be very good I think

it's gonna sort of lose that shock value that

the first season had Like right now we're all

surprised by it because it's totally not what

we expected and we think it's awesome But I don't

think we'll sort of get that same high from the

second season of that. I don't know. I could

be wrong That's a good point. It's a good point

Do you uh, what so what are the other series

iron fist? uh luke cage jessica jones and I think

that's it did in anyone knows particularly any

one of those in particular interests you more

than the other or I could tell you which one

will I I'm not really finding that intriguing

right now and that is the jessica jones one Yeah,

yeah, I don't know much about her character at

all Neither do I so I like i'm really intrigued

about the iron frisk because it feels like a

lot of this mythology That was started and daredevil

was really linked to him. Yeah So i'm curious

to see i'm guessing maybe that's is that the

last one they're doing before defenders. I don't

know but I hope they go with the white and gold

costume Yes, I agree. That looked sweet in the
