About this Episode

Greg and Dan tackle the Daredevil Netflix trailer, breaking down its production quality, tone, and how Kingpin appears in the footage. They discuss the X-Men comic 'Battle of the Atom' and its time-travel complexity, then dive into Amazon's 'A Man in a High Castle' pilot as inspiration for a creative exercise: inventing their own alternate universe storylines across various properties. The episode closes with Dan's passionate letter to anti-vaxxers, arguing vaccination is a rational issue, not a political one.

Hey, I'm Bryce Carlson, writer of Hit, managing

editor at Boom Studios, and you're listening

to Talking in Circles. You are now on the inside

of what I like to call the circle of trust. We

are all connected in a great circle of life.

You know something, Bert? I think you and I are

going in circles. It feels like we're going in

circles. The circuit is now complete. When I

left you, I was but the learner. Now, I am the

master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard

about the circle. Yeah, I swear the million would

change. Hey, this is Greg without Chuck. And

this is Dan and we are Talking in Circles brought

to you by the GeekCast Radio Network. the podcast

that is Chuck -less for the moment, but not Chuck

-less forever. Unfortunately, Chuck cannot make

it today, had some things going on, and he'll

be back next week, we do promise. We will miss

his dulcet tones. Yes, we will. It's tough. We're

going to get through it. He'll be back next week,

I'm sure. There will be a revolt in the comments

section. I know. I apologize that you're going

to get a full load of myself and Greg in this

episode, so hopefully you can all take it. I

did not mean it. Well, they won't be able to

take you, Dan, but me, they'll be able to take,

like, no problem. I'll just go right in and out.

But you, it'll have trouble going in, I think,

with you. Welcome to today's podcast and slightly

dirtier today since our voice of reason is gone.

Yes, very much so. But today we're actually kind

of a unique idea that we're going to be doing.

Well, to start off, we have a few things to talk

about, including the Daredevil trailer. But in

the second segment, inspired by a recent TV show

that I watched, We came up with the idea of trying

to create alternate universes based upon different

properties so real life or history or you know,

also TV and movies or something of that nature.

So we'll get more detail in that in our second

segment. But before we get to all that, how's

your week been going Greg? Oh, it's been alright.

Tonight I went out with my brother and my mother

and we went over to Chipotle. opened I think

like five days ago. Still has a little bit of

a way to go to catch up to normal standards and

practices of a Chipotle. It wasn't quite as good

as it usually is. It was... The line was backed

up all the way to the door took a half an hour

to get the food and everything The chips needed

to be fried a little bit more. They get got a

little bit doughy and it got mixed with saliva.

So and Yeah Yeah like my saliva when i put it

in my mouth it's kinda like got doughy as you

put it on your tongue. I thought you meant to

get mixed with saliva before. No, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

no, no, no. Two or three scoops of rice my mom

goes up and it was like one scoop of rice i'm

like that does not seem like enough like i usually

see a lot more where it fills out the bottom

of the bowl with rice but with hers it was just

like just one little thing in the middle like

what the hell's going on here so is it was a

little weird there you know you know the trick

for asking for extra meat though right if you

ever do that. No i don't know the extra meat

trick okay well if you're actually me you let

them put the meat on first like they would regularly

do it regularly do it and then you ask for extra

meat because if you ask for extra meat up front

good chance that they uh they might kind of jimpy

a little bit where you won't get actually double

you'll just get kind of like one and a half so

that's your fat guy tip of the day All right.

I'm trying to lose my fat title. So I've been

doing pretty good. I've been working on my P90X

stuff. So I don't think Chipotle is that bad

if you're if you're on a diet or anything. The

only things that are really bad for you probably

are the sour cream and cheese and probably the

shell. But if you could Cut out the shell with

a burrito bowl, but I think it's not that bad

if you're on a diet and getting that kind of

stuff. But what have you been up to, Dan? Well,

I actually can talk about a little bit of food,

too, because I went to a burger place I apparently

own because it's a new burger place that opened

near me called Clark Burger. Nice. Yeah, it's

actually - Wish Chuck was here for this conversation

because he has a standing list of burger places

that he has ranked. Yeah, I don't know how high

this would make it in the ranking. It's brand

new literally like simply similar to Chipotle.

This is like two weeks old and it's not a chain.

It's like a guy starting his first restaurant.

It's located right next to a movie theater I

go to and it's kind of like fun. That is ultra

convenient for you, Sam. Surprisingly enough,

we didn't go to the movies. We just went to the

burger place. Well, we were thinking about going

to see a movie too, but there was like nothing

out. We're like, we'll be forcing ourselves to

see a movie. So might as well just get a burger.

It's kind of five -guy stylish where you order

your burger up front. It's not nearly as greasy.

The guy who owns it is actually Canadian, so

that's kind of like the theme, per se, and I

had poutine. So they put mayonnaise on the burger.

Not mine. Well, I created my own, which is kind

of nice. Which is pretty cool, because they have

sides and like... Oh, the sides are free and

that includes like bacon and jalapenos and like,

Oh wow. Yeah. So that was, that was pretty intense,

but I also had poutine for the first time in

my life, which I've heard a lot of people talk

about it because I listened to a lot of podcasts

that are located in Canada and it's such a, you

know, known dish there. So I finally had. Some

and I'm like, this is just basically fries with

gravy and kind of cheese. But yeah, that's all

it is. Was it like a mozzarella cheese curd type

of thing? Yeah. That's what it's supposed to.

Yeah, it was. I'm not a big gravy fan, so it

was decent. I prefer devil fries. You know, the

hot sauce and cheese. Yeah. Buffalo sauce and

cheese. So yeah, that's that's a good time. But

which I mean, I mean, my own buffalo dip for

a Super Bowl, which was kind of cool. Yeah, it's

real simple really easy. So speaking of the Super

Bowl. What did you think of the the results of

that? Well, I love I know when this comes out

Super Bowl is kind of old but I think we do have

to talk about it because I actually thought the

game was It was it was a great game to watch.

Yes Yeah, I think it like it rings up. There's

some of the best like one of the best Super Bowls

I watched from beginning to end I the ending

I was like I was disappointed that the Seattle

lost But then the way Seattle acted, I was almost

like, you know what? Good for you, because like

the way they were. Oh, the fight towards the

end. Yeah, that is much. And honestly, it was

just worth it to see that reaction from Richard

Sherman from the other other direction. Like

on Reddit, like you saw a billion of those after

the Super Bowl is just him going from happy face

to sad face. What's it happen? I'm like, oh,

that's me But yeah, I little disappointed with

the outcome a little happy because I predict

the Patriots the win and that did happen So but

yeah, I mean, I don't know what you think. I

Pretty much agreed with you. It was a really

well played game. It was an interesting game

It was close. It was scoring wise and everything

is so it was great that way, but I didn't really

care for the winner because I think they're a

bunch of assholes, but then the losing team that

I was rooting for at the end kind of showed themselves

as assholes as well. So the whole Super Bowl

was a kind of a bust at the end. It was interesting

to watch, but not a lot of love for either of

those teams. Plus the commercials kind of sucked

and we were like, very depressing. I think, you

know, nation one obviously set the bar when it's

like a dying kid. I'm like, What yeah, it was

really it was really strange and everybody kind

of had that same thing going on It was really

weird like let's depress the hell out of you

this Super Bowl. I'm like, uh, yeah There was

maybe like two or three good commercials and

that was about it. Yeah, that was like the theme

I'm like, why is everybody going so sad for but

I don't know and then Katy Perry calling out

her sword and everything. I didn't mind Katy

Perry show I think for like that type of like

where I was going for I thought it was effective

enough I mean to be yeah, but isn't there a whole

bunch of guys that are really interested in the

Super Bowl? I didn't understand it's like it's

counter programming, right? I mean you have guys

who are interested in the Super Bowl so you get

Someone who would appeal to the the women in

the room or appeal to like the non -sports fan

for the halftime show sometimes I mean last I

guess. I've never really been impressed with

the halftime shows. I'm not a fan of Prince.

I'm not a fan of Tom Petty. I think, like, I

don't think Super Bowl stadiums are good venues

for music, usually. Especially, like, football

stadiums, because the sound never sounds all

that great. And the acoustics are always off,

and yeah. I thought, like, Bruce Springsteen,

I thought, like, his, when he did the halftime

show was pretty good, because it literally was

just him playing, so it ended up working all

right, and he has a lot of experience. I'm I'm

not a fan of spring sting to begin with so damn

it, man. I know I Like ladies with as little

clothing as possible now, I don't know I like

to see the Foo Fighters. I think the Foo Fighters

would be awesome I'm a big Foo Fighters fan.

I'm more into more alt rock kind of stuff and

I don't know it Just not a lot of stuff that

I enjoy for the halftime shows, but I mean, I

don't know It's the halftime shows. I have to

have shown no one's ever watches the Super Bowl

for the halftime show Just thanks to you. It's

just excuse get a break from eating food or to

get more food really but What you have to eat

for you had the? Hot wing yes, all you really

did we didn't do much besides that. How about

yourself? Yeah, I just had a whole bunch of wings

I tried not to go too crazy because like I said,

I'm trying to Trying to be good trying to be

fit. I'm looking better even though it doesn't

seem like I'm actually losing weight so nice

There were a lot of trailers that debuted but

the one we're actually gonna focus on is not

when that came out During Super Bowl, but after

it earlier last week when this is being recorded

when this is released And that's the trailer

to the upcoming Netflix series daredevil that

finally came out We've seen a few you know still

images here and there but now an actual full

-fledged trailer has been released I guess I

don't know if it's a trailer or tz trailer or

or what I don't know what the difference is anymore

like I don't know that I don't know the like

Measurements for what makes a teaser trailer

compared to a normal trailer, but anyways, what

did you think of the our first look at daredevil?

Like his costume, this also looks like it is

darker than the original movie with Ben Affleck.

And personally, I think it looks a lot better,

feels a lot better tonality -wise, going darker

as opposed to the kind of, I guess a little bit

hokey Ben Affleck movie. And this guy seems like

a better, more believable daredevil, I guess.

And I know there's a lot of people throwing a

fit about the costume. I don't think it's too

bad. And plus, anyway, it is in the comic lore.

I believe it was Frank Miller run that he was

going around, topping around in the black costume.

I think Mark Miller did like one type of story,

too, with with Daredevil. And they've already

indicated that that's like his initial uniform

or costume that he will wear a few throughout

the series. So my guess is, yeah, I don't. That's

kind of like, you know Batman did in Batman Begins

or year one where he like evolves into like his

his red and what -have -you so Yeah, I think

that's kind of cool, but it looks really good.

I'm actually looking forward to that I liked

it as well at times though, like some of the

shots I'm like it looks a little on the cheap

end production wise But then there are a few

that I'm like actually that looks really good

like the last image of him Like in the puddle

with the blood dripping Oh, yeah, I was going

to mention that when that did look really cool.

That actually looks pretty cinematic. And then

there's a few here and there that looked a little

questionable. I know it gave us a small glimpse

of what his senses might look like, or at least

that's what I think it was doing, which I'd be

interested in how that's working. But yeah, the

voices was like, like it's his vision. Why are

the voices all like weird and what? Yeah. Well,

I think his hearing is a little bit better, too,

but not necessarily to that extent. I don't know.

But yeah, I'm curious like how that's going to

work out. And I know we get a little tiny glimpse

of the back of Kingpin and he looks a little

bit. I wasn't wondering how they're going to

do Kingpin because he's such a like oddly shaped

dude in the comics, but just a normal guy. Glad

they are going sticking with the Kingpin because

I was wondering if that would. Didn't even notice

that in my I didn't know they're gonna have to

look at it I read an article that was like breaking

it down like things that that's the only reason

I saw it I like I remember seeing the guy but

I'm not knowing it was actually the Ken Ken you

if you watch it again You might notice it. You'll

see like I do it all in one bald head and that's

all you really see them All right. I'll have

to oh my god. It's like But yeah, I'm definitely

looking forward to it. I'm liking what I'm seeing

I'm curious to see like you mentioned with the

uniform or that like how that How that evolves

or what that looks like I think it works for

this like by itself right now I think it'd be

fine if you can kept that throughout the series

It uh, you know, it's seems practical and real

world like it It does seem if this isn't the

same universe as marvel. It does seem a lot darker

than something like the avengers or something

It does something like that. So I wonder if that's

the tone they're going with I mean, I think what

daredevil you kind of need that but Yeah, cuz

his life is is so tragic like everybody like

all of his girlfriends die or get some kind of

a dick Yeah, I know or something like that. So

it kind of fits the care. I mean like Spiderman's

like, oh you have Gwen Stacy, huh? Like I have

a whole slew of Gwen Stacy's, you know Yeah for

me because I'm daredevil Yeah, so I'm looking

forward to definitely check it out. So and what

I love about Netflix is how they dumped the entire

season all at once Yes, he could totally binge

watch the shit out of that. I love that too.

That's always a good time He and also comic book

related. It's kind of serendipitous because this

Thing that I am going to talk about that this

comic actually goes back to one of our first

episodes because In one of our first episodes,

you know You wrote a letter to Brian Michael

Bendis and it was actually in partially in regards

to this comic Or at least his take on the X -Men

and the comic itself well the series or the I

guess I read it in individual issues, but get

graphic novel form the story's called a battle

for the atom similar to like executioner song

in the 90s or what was that one in mid -2000s

deception not deception, but I forget but like

they You know my memory. I'm not gonna get it

instead of like Doing all the different series

all the same time it goes from one x -men book

to the next the next and concurrent fashion and

from new x -men all new x -men to Wolverine in

the x -men to uncanny x -men and a few others

So it goes from book to book in the story just

continues in each in each version. So it's not

necessarily It's not like you're reading that

team's perspective. It's it discontinues. We'll

book the book So which is I like it I prefer

it when they do that when it's all contained

in one story and you have to worry about reading

ten thousand side issues But the the main story

I would say like if you're gonna read the start

off before I even get into it The battle for

the animal and I don't think is a story that

you could read by itself without knowing the

knowledge of what happened Before you read it

Before this series starts, you have X -Men versus

Avengers storyline in that storyline Scott Summers

kills Professor X mistakenly, maybe not people

though, it's kind of up for debate, but then

him along with a few other mutants including

Magneto kind of leave the X -Men and kind of

form their own X -Men team. Some in some maybe

even say maybe they're even the New Brotherhood

in a way the way that Cyclops is leading the

team. Beast has become kind of distraught Hank

McCoy because of this and in a way to try to

fix things he goes to the past and Brings the

original x -men back to the or to the present

is like a way to try to Almost like the opposite

of days of future past bringing them to the present

to say you can fix this Which is an interesting

chant and change of pace for x -men because it's

so often in the opposite So it's kind of funny

doing it like the switch there where it's about

trying to change the current status of the x

-men They're also brought there, Hank thinks

this will help to remind Cyclops of his past

and how far he's kind of strayed in his current

form. Exactly. And of course, doing so the whole

time, you know, it's based on continuing aspect.

People are worried it's going to basically wreak

havoc and you have running the chance of... Erasing

existence and changing things and really messing

up with time. So it you have this a lot of that

going back and forth But what changes in battle

for the atom is to make things a little bit more

complicated Not only do we have X -Men from the

past X -Men from the present but also X -Men

from the future show up the kind of To kind of

warn them about you know, getting the original

X -Men back to the past or back to where they

belong and But there's a little bit of mystery

there, because the future X -Men that show up

are Beast, who appears to be Xavier's son, Kitty

Pride, and a few others. But they kind of arrive

and there's something off about them and it kind

of it goes from there. Jean Grey, the original

Jean Grey, he was come from the future, come

from the past. If it's come if it's complicated

and you have no idea what I'm talking about,

that's kind of kind of the way it kind of that's

how it reads that way a little bit. But Jean

Grey and the original Jean Grey and young Scott

Summers kind of go on the run because they think

that these people are up to no good. It becomes

this like story of fate and giving people the

opportunity and you know people who want to get

the original X -Men back to where they belong

others that don't Overall liked it for a few

reasons Mainly like there's a lot about the future

X -Men that I like like a little some of the

concepts specifically the way like we see future

Iceman and The direction that that character

goes he almost becomes this like sorcerer or

like wizard in a way like there's new his new

look with a beard and new discovery of powers

which i'm like that's kind of an interesting

idea of iceman that we haven't really seen before

i i just like the the interactions between all

the different teams and i know i'm saying it's

convoluted it is convoluted because literally

you have what ends up being like six different

x -men teams from three different time periods

so it's like holy crap this is kind of complicated

you have three different characters for each

guy there's like four iceman it's it's kind of

crazy but And I think, considering that aspect

of it, it reads pretty well at times. My biggest

issue with it is that I didn't know what the

overall stakes were, or they have to get back

to the past, but what happens if they don't,

or there's a lot of secrecy there that the future

X -Men don't want to reveal. I don't know, it

felt like I didn't have a distinct... Act that

I need I needed to focus on like with X one days

of future past you have that's just that thing

that the specific Act they need to change because

this will happen with this one. It's so muddled

and so like complicated that it's it's hard to

really get invested because you don't really

know You have nothing really to root for you.

Just these people are just Figuring out what's

going on It's really hard to even grasp the purpose

behind it and just to complicate things shield

shows up. So Thanks, thanks bendis and another

issue too. I had was that and mentioned how hank

mccoy? Was the person who kind of started all

this but he kind of gets lost in this entire

storyline like he was the heart of the story

and even in the future x -men, but like We don't

really get to see a lot of interaction I wish

we got more interaction between him and the three

different technical reasons Because he was such

a huge part of it leading up to it He kind of

like it gets becomes really Jean Grey's story

in a lot of ways Jean Grey to me has always been

kind of like a forgotten character I never really

understood what was the big deal about her but

this entire like storyline really made me Understand

what's great about that character. So I would

give it points for that but yeah, it is it is

thick and like Most x -men stories it is full

of a lot of just weirdness and you're just like

with time travel and alternate dimensions It

is it's hard to keep track of Dan it actually

sounds like you hated it. I Didn't hate it. I

feel like there's a lot of negatives I would

point out to you like I like I said the interactions

between the characters. I think Bendis has Done

down really well. There's a great line about

Maria Hill Spells out about how it's like, you

know Maybe we can reason with Wolverine and the

other ones have gone crazy and she's like that's

how it messed up the world is Wolverine's the

same one and and I like the overall idea of Like

the choice that like you that the original X

-Men are given how we see them become the X -Men

that we Need them to be and especially like the

final battle. There's a nice little throwback

to the original X -Men cover Which I thought

was you know a little on the nose, but so so

effective and I thought the twists and turns

were obvious, but at least effective and see

I feel like that all that you've mentioned right

there is a typical bend this story of Having

this awesome setup. He's good with the characters,

but every other aspect of storytelling is out

the frickin window Every I want what's me characters

is the most important part of storytelling. So

I think if you get that pretty good But I would,

like I said, I think the biggest aspect is not

having well -established stakes, which is what

hurts it the most. I think there's, like you

said, it could have been a lot better, I think.

I did think the ending was suitable, like most

endings for Bendis, it's kind of a letdown, but

I thought this one at least made sense and I

think stuck to the... The established plot line

it was creating But I do want to see what happens

after this within the storyline of the X -Men

because I think that's gonna make or break it

To see how much of an impact it really does have

zero See that that I don't know I have to wait

and see on that but I don't know I know you hate

did you did you ended up hating the story? Yeah,

it was it was just way too much going on way

too many teams Like all the stuff that you said

that you didn't like I didn't like and the the

great character development and the great initial

idea where the only good things and for me that

that wasn't enough to make it something that

I really enjoyed yeah for me I'm like it depends

on the story but if I if I like the characters

I'm reading and I want to know more about it.

Unfortunately, I can't think of who did the art,

but the art's good enough, too. Stuart Imogen?

Yeah, and I love his art, so he makes it worth

it. Is that him? Yeah, love Stuart Imogen, or

however you say his name. Not sure if there's

a G in there. Semicolon yeah, I but you know

I probably did not do that story justice honestly

because and it's hard to explain Because you

literally do need like a good like 20 minute

explanation before you get into it So it like

with honestly, it's not even just Bendis though

That's a lot of X -Men stories a lot of X -Men

stories get into craziness like that. So but

the other thing I watched was actually I got

into because I was recently on an episode of

simplistic reviews DJ from that show mentioned

this TV show that he watched on Amazon and it

seemed interesting so I wanted to check it out

and it's called A Man in a High Castle. Amazon

releases like six or seven different pilot episodes

that you can watch and they kind of use fan reaction

to determine which ones become series and this

one's getting the highest buzz so far, a lot

of positive reactions. And what the story does,

it takes place in an alternate universe where

the axis power is one, war, or two. So Germany

and Japan. defeated the United States. After

doing so, they kind of split the U .S. into two.

Japan got the West Coast, Germany the East Coast,

and this story takes place in the 1960s as well.

So it's a period piece and an alternate universe

story. It hits a lot of sweet spots for me. I

love alternate story, alternate universes. It's

also kind of a spy thriller too, which I really

enjoy as well, and it deals with history. So

a lot going for it that I'm going to like going

in and it executes it really well. Like I said,

it's only a pilot only one episode. So it's really

the first episodes really just about world building

and I think That's the best thing about it. So

far. Some of the characters do have potential

kind of blank slates to start to show off. You

know, they're just getting into this conflict

because they're secretly like an underground

resistance, as you would expect to kind of get

the United States back. And it's also based upon

a Philip K. Dick novel. And if you know anything

about Philip K. Dick, chances are he is a crazy

man. He is the Brian Michael Bendis of his day.

No, that's an insult. No, Brian. Philip K. Dick

is all I know. I'm joking. I'm joking. He too

he loves his like high concept stories like this

one and but they're understandable Yes, much

more probably better executed in some instances.

But yeah, so he likes his high concepts and you

can kind of Assume there's going to be a science

fiction aspect in some way There were a little

bit hints in there that like a what that could

be Which was probably the one of the most surprising

twists in the entire series. So it really has

me wondering like Huh, this is not exactly what

I thought it was gonna be but in a good way I'm

like this could go in some interesting directions.

And so yeah, I'm really I'm really really hoping

it gets a complete season I did some research

to see if it would happen Not yet. Nothing's

been officially announced. Most people think

it would It has a high chance of becoming a complete

series because it's gotten such good remarks

so far And I think it's free even if you're not

Amazon Prime user But I if you go to amazon .com,

but it's a man in a high castle. So I definitely

recommend it I usually don't watch shows that

don't have like I don't get involved in them

when it's so early on because I feel like you

know I'm wanting to get disappointed if we don't

get a full season, but I feel like this one you're

kind of safe All right, well, that's pretty much

all I've been watching. And I think we'll take

a little bit of a break here. And when we come

back, kind of inspired by the man in the high

castle, we're going to kind of try to come up

with our own different stories regarding alternate

universes and what they can be. So a little bit

of a creative exercise of stretching that muscle

in your brain that really makes you think. So

it should be fun. Looking forward to it. And

we'll get to it in just a short moment. So we'll

see you. Every week on the InSessionFilm Podcast,

you can expect to hear reviews on all of the

and welcome back. And like I mentioned during

break, we're gonna try to do a little bit of

fun exercise here. Greg and I, and I think even

Chuck, we're big fans of those alternate universes

stories where something changes, something established

that we all know gets altered for whatever reason.

For example, the one I used for Greg and Chuck

when we explained about this idea was, imagine

home improvement, that show we all know and love.

Well, imagine that Tim Taylor. is actually killed

by one of his many accidents. And after so, Al

Borland weds Taylor's wife and they begin their

own family together. So and what that would then

entail. So or something in history that we alter

and change. So there's a lot of things on the

table, anything from real life to TV to movies

to comics. We're just kind of trying to come

up with our own storylines here and see the different

directions that we were going. Anything else

you wanted to add before we get this thing underway?

No. There's an alternate storyline where I say

yes, there is we're actually gonna release multiple

episodes of this podcast and what It's gonna

get really it's gonna be get bend this like we're

gonna we're gonna release a past episode of this

podcast Which is gonna be before we even created

the podcast, which is gonna actually be three

different people entirely We're gonna release

a future episode as well and another alternate

Episode where Chuck is also a part of the podcast

So it's it's gonna be weird and what I'm not

gonna be in it and Greg what one's not Greg is

gonna be in it It's gonna be a weird you connect

them all together and you play it backwards and

then you know, it all makes sense So good luck

with that Oh my god, what's going on? It is the

craziness, but maybe since this is the kind of

idea that was in my crazy head and hopefully

it's going to work out, I'm going to start with

my first idea what this would be like and I'm

thinking about maybe even throwing a poll or

if you have certain stories you like the most,

you know, you can... You know comments on the

episode post at geekcastreator .com and you know,

we're not really doing a competition here We're

not actually gonna go any further with these

as of right now at least but this is just one

of those things that you get the opportunity

to be creative and so hopefully this all makes

sense, but I am a fan of history. My first alternate

universe is based upon historical events and

It's been well documented before Christopher

Columbus ever attempted to sail across the world,

that the Vikings have traveled to North America

long before he did. So in this story, in this

universe, the Vikings not only traveled to the

Middle World, they settled here and they kind

of prospered. And after many, many decades of

fighting and years of fighting with the Native

Americans, they almost became, there's a truce

that was established and A hybrid of these different

universes was created and they basically became

like almost like a amalgamation of both of their

different universes and belief systems and fighting

styles and everything. Unfortunately, the rest

of the world had no idea what was even going

on. So when Christopher Columbus travels to North

America, thinking he's in the Indies, he finds

that he is not where he expected to be. In real

history, when Christopher Columbus arrived, they

basically committed genocide and killed all of

the inhabitants. Well, in this, you have people

who are much more willing to fight back. And

in doing so, they actually nearly kill every

member of Christopher Columbus and his crew.

Columbus, along with a few other people do escape

and get back to Spain and inform the Spanish

king about what they have found and these fierce

warriors that they are afraid will come to their

land in seeking vengeance or to over claim them.

So this basically this massive war breaks out

between the new world, which in the old world,

and it's this combination of Vikings and Indians

fighting against colonial world, not colonial

at that time, which would have been colonial.

Europe Viking ships versus, you know, the Spanish

the Spanish ships and it's a huge gigantic type

of a type of world war but long before World

War two ever happened. So it's just the idea

of basically, you know, what would happen if

the Vikings took more control of North America

in the effect that that would happen? How does

that sound to you? It sounds like Thor now eats

corn on a cob and turkey. You know what? I think

they call it maize actually. Oh, maize. I'm sorry.

He eats maize and mead as well. So he has a nice

combination thing going on. How far would the

Vikings actually make it into America? Like I'm

thinking majority of the East Coast all the way

down to where would be. Near like the Bahama

Islands and all that like kind of not necessarily

South America quite but like around Cuba and

All those islands would be kind of occupied as

well. It'd be almost like Nearly the entire Western.

Well, not Western Coast, but East Coast from

maybe, you know Canada down to South America

In some ways it'd be like a common maybe all

the way there but like a good chunk of it. Okay,

that's cool. So What effect other than Columbus

so it just becomes a world war like how How are

they getting ships over there from Europe? Well,

I mean that's a good question. Well, I mean Vikings

are notable sailors So that's how I would assume

they'd be yeah, and they did get to America before

anybody else Yeah, and my my thought process

would be that they were able to evolve even further.

So I mean it'd be like after this threat is realized

and other countries see just how Unknown force

there is they kind of unite in a way, you know,

Spain and Italy and France and England and they

kind of become, you know, almost like a European

nation before the European nation was ever formed

to fight this other force. So it's, you know,

it's in in that ends where it's like the new

world of this fighting world, the Native American

world going against this other. So you have a

back and forth. Maybe they, you know, eventually

to start with, once Spain comes back, they would

have huge victory because there would be so much

you know overpowering them and even the spread

of diseases that they would not be able to keep

up with like measles and stuff like that. So

it'd be kind of like a back and forth. I think

Europe would have the slight advantage there

with technology. And I think there would be more

vast numbers coming from Europe as opposed to

just what the Vikings and Indians have, because

Vikings were, I think it was centuries before

anybody else, I want to say, getting over here.

So I'm not sure how long it would take the The

vikings to get at least some of their people

over and then the whole process of breeding and

different generations of Talking about like,

you know, I think early first century Vikings

so you had about a thousand years for them to

you know evolve They wouldn't make you know wouldn't

have guns or say but they would have at least

you know, the naval skills to To compete their

ships wouldn't be as big. You know, they would

be more design, not necessarily for battle, but

for transportation. So I would think, yeah, Europe

would probably have a huge edge and a huge advantage

regarding technology for the most part. But I

think what the Vikings would have would just

brute force and fighting skills. And, you know,

at that time, guns were reliable, but I think

they weren't necessarily. you could overcome

that disadvantage a little easier if you had

like a combination to both the Vikings and Native

Americans fighting styles. Yeah, they're both

brutal fighters, both those races, I guess you

would say? Yeah, ethnic groups, I guess. Yeah.

Okay, we'll go with ethnic groups. They're both

fierce warriors. I foresee a problem with the

Indians and the Vikings getting along because

the Vikings are mostly a pillage and rape to

get what they need and not really producing for

themselves a majority of the stuff majority of

the stuff they got from their their pillaging

of England and everything like that. So I don't

think they would fall together too easily. So

I think that might be a little bit of a stretch,

but like it's a fantasy thing. So you can make

that. I guess the way you can get around that

is a few a few things. Maybe the fact that now

that there's a new threat that they both can't

combat by themselves, they. Enemy of my enemy

is my friends. Yeah, yeah type of situation or

perhaps Similar to say like the pilgrims that

were aided by the Native Americans order to survive

Maybe similar situations happened in order where

the Vikings weren't able to pillage or get there

You know get what they needed in order to drive

those harsh winters and with lack of props so

maybe and maybe it was just simply just tired

of fighting like where they just Endless endless

battles where it got to the point where it's

like, all right There's nothing further that

can be done here. So more of a like, all right,

like enough is enough type of situation. But

yeah, the best way to go with it would probably

be enemy of my enemies, my friend, because that

would probably be the most likely. Yeah, cool.

What's the next one? The next kind of setup here

is I'm going to I'm calling it Arabian nightmares.

And it's based upon. My personal favorites cartoon

Disney cartoon probably of all time and that's

Aladdin. I don't know if you're a fan I thought

you're I thought you were gonna say Beauty and

the Beast From the title I thought it was gonna

be Beauty and the Beast totally threw me off

there Dan. Arabian nightmares? You want Beauty

and the Beast? Yeah. Okay, well I can't even

tell if you're being serious or not. I am totally

being serious. Totally not. Okay, all right.

Well, you never know. I mean, hey, but yeah,

so this idea It's kind of it's kind of a cheat

because it's like an altered dimension in a regular

dimension, but we can we can go from there so

This would happen not long after the end of the

first Aladdin movie where Aladdin defeats Jafar.

He has a princess and all that good stuff however

Shortly after that a new genie appears and it's

not the genie that he knows it's this genie He's

not nearly as comedic. He's a little More distraught

broken seems almost like he's gone through some

serious serious stuff Come to find out this genie

is not from his universe But another universe

another universe where Aladdin was killed early

on I have genie No, he was killed early on by

a boo who got sick of Aladdin shit and stabbed

him in the dead of night. Because of that, Jafar

actually was able to get the genie and take control

of the entire world, making it his own. So while

Jafar was busy doing other things, this genie

looked across multiple dimensions and different

worlds to find the person that could save him.

So he brings our Aladdin to his universe to try

to then make things right. So... and enters this

world where it's kind of gone to hell because

Jafar is the ultimate power. So, I don't know,

what do you think could kind of happen in a world

like that? I think Aladdin would get butt -fucked

by Iago. Well, this is a fantasy, so yeah. So

it's Genie bringing Aladdin back to this world,

correct? Yes, bring the because it's a world

without Aladdin kind of like think of it's a

wonderful life Right where he gets to see what

his life is like if he wasn't born similar to

that But it's he ends up being forced into a

world where he was killed. So so is the good

genie also? With them as well. Or is it just

Aladdin? That's a decision to make you think

you would be I think it would make sense if he

brought his little ragtag group of carpet and

Good a poo that it's not stabby There can be

an a poo verse a poo breakdown of no fighting

and whatnot It's it's good a poo versus the a

poo from That movie where this monkey has this

chemical that's trained to kill. I'm sorry 28

days later. Yeah He took too many bath salts

but I think Aladdin would come in and kind of

build an underground to battle Jafar. I don't

know how bad Genie would get off the chain to

go get good Aladdin since Jafar kind of has control

over him so I think it would end up kind of having

to be yeah he brings Aladdin there and good Genie

but It's going to be a genie off and an old fashioned

genial. Oh, there's going to be a genie off and

very hand to hand very heavy losses for Aladdin,

but he's going to be like the general of the

underground kind of situation going on. And I'm

thinking, you know, the end of the kind of make

it a little bit more of a twist. This being the

world, Jafar rules that. his person by his side

forcibly would be Jasmine. So he is finally able

to free Jasmine after, you know, all good try

and try himself for evil and all that stuff.

But and and after that, he gets a little reward

after saving her wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say

no more. I was actually thinking that we suddenly

find out that in fact, Jafar was just a figurehead

and it was really Jasmine all along. Yes. And

she ends up taking out. our own Aladdin and taking

control of both universes. What? Yeah. See, that's

what I'm thinking. What a twist! It's a twist.

That's the way to go, right? Yeah, that's better

than uh, what's -his -name than um, the dude

that uh, the bruce willis Invincible in uh, and

night chameleon. Yeah, it's better than an end

night chameleon twist right there Yeah, so kind

of kind of like a twilight zone twist I also

thought of maybe doing like a new universe where

bambi's mom doesn't die but bambi ends up becoming

a spoiled brat and like Only child that's kind

of raised by the entire forest Yeah, and kind

of just he just becomes really annoying and no

one likes him Yeah and so he he kind of gets

really depressed that no one will talk to him

and then he he finds that hunter the one day

and kills him kills that hunter and then is feeling

even more depressed and then Bambi figures out

how to use the gun and shoots himself Yeah, making

it ultra Lee sad, but Bambi Nationwide on your

side, so yeah, I would Man so this next one is

entitled saved by the bell in hell This is kind

of inspired me inspired by Jimmy Fallon recently

had like a mini reunion of all the seat by the

bell cast minus screech because he's in jail

but this is also not only an alternate universe

but a crossover of two of the greatest like 80s

90s properties of all time so here it goes in

a crossover of epic proportions the worlds of

saved by the bell and bill and ted become one

after their beloved leader rufus is murdered

by a rebel time traveler ted theater logan and

bill s preston seek to enter hell to bring him

back Their sidekick, Station, informs them. In

order to make this mission work, they must seek

the help of the Ultimate Time Master, a young

teenager in California who is not even aware

of his powers. Zack Morris has been calling timeouts

for some time now, not realizing the power he

truly has. You know what that's in reference

to, right? Yeah, I never really was a big Saved

by the Bell fan, but I do know enough that he

does stop time to have a little time out and

talk with the audience. So the idea is that you

know and fact that he's some sort of time God

He is a descendant of an ancient time Lord long

ago now. Is that true? Maybe maybe maybe now

now Zack along with the crew of base I joined

Bill and Ted in their journey to hell to rescue

Rufus and Mr. Building By the same time Lord

or by the same rebel time traveler as Rufus I'm

assuming Bill and Ted accidentally when they

first encountered the kids from what's the name

of the high school? They said when they get to

Bayside they accidentally kill screech by landing

the phone booth right on top of. They would have

the first right off the bat and then they get

really pervy with all the girls. Do you know

that would happen. Oh yeah definitely and they're

they're not having anything to do with it and

then so finally what's blondies name the guy.

Zach yeah, Zach Morris eventually just takes

and figures out the time machine and just goes

off by himself and completes the mission Yeah,

he's and then he uses what's his name Later as

his is kind of bodyguard through the whole thing

See and then later eventually ends up dead through

some situation where Zach Morris twists it around

and uses Uses his power to kill sleep to get

Kelly capacity Yeah, I don't know if you ever

remember. Have you seen built -in focus your

journey? Yes, it is freaking hilarious and you're

not for the best of reasons The sequence of them

playing death in board games What are the funniest?

Oh, it is. It's hilarious. I used to I watched

that with my friend, Jesse from high school.

Jesse is a girl, by the way, that could be construed

as. But anyway, we I forget what it was exactly

about that scene. But there was something that

every time we watched it, we cracked up. And

I forget it because it's been so long. But there

was something I used to imitate in there that

would used to get laughs all the time. Was it

I used to like my battleship? Probably, probably.

You would have to have some sort of scene like

that. I'm also thinking that the ending would

have to be an epic music battle of the wild stallions

against Zack band from Saved by the Bell, which

was called, of course, Zack Attack. So it would

just be this, you know, this awesome band off

for no apparent reason because it's Saved by

the Bell. And they have to play The Devil Goes

Down to Georgia. Exactly, it keeps the case and

shows up for no reason rest in peace. But yeah,

so But yeah, I think I don't know I just those

two things combining into one I'm surprised it

never happened in any form, you know I guess

maybe they are aren't around exactly the same

time because I think Bill and Ted was like Like

maybe a little after you say by the bill. Ah

Maybe late Season saved by the bell. They were

out and about I don't know. I'm not too sure.

I'm not good on my 80s information But yeah,

so if you have any different ideas on how to

take that I did the combining the worlds of Bill

and Ted and And saved by the bill. I think there's

a potential there. There's definitely potential

I'm sure I'm sure Keanu Reeves would love the

I love the opportunity to go after Kelly Kabaski

like Alright, the last one I have here is in

reference to Star Wars, because who doesn't love

Star Wars? And this one is entitled, Star Wars

Episode Zero, No Hope. In a different galaxy

far, far away, this version of Star Wars sees

R2 -D2 and D2PO never making it to Obi -Wan or

Luke... Because their escape pod is destroyed

instead of being randomly allowed to fall to

the planet because there is no life forms on

it. Unlike episode four. They had to save lasers,

all right? They were over their quota on lasers.

Exactly, exactly. You know, you got to stay green.

You got to stay green. Even in the Empire, the

green is the new black. Green is the new black.

Darth Vader's not going to be wearing black anymore.

He's going to have green uniform. Oh That would

Wow imagine what that would be like a bright

green to like a st. Patty's day cream It'll be

really like light plastic and it wouldn't be

much So you can kind of see through it a little

bit. Yeah, it's like Darth Vader 100 diet But

so instead of being a fight between light in

the dark side it becomes a struggle between Darth

Vader and the Emperor Vader is secretly training

his own apprentice who he hopes to use to overthrow

the Emperor The what Vader doesn't know is and

the Emperor is well aware of Vader's plans But

is not in fear because of his ultimate ultimate

goal he's going to be combining the greatest

of all sith lords Darth Bane Darth Raven from

the Knights of the Old Republic game Darth Malak

and even Darth Maul and taking their essence

into him and eventually placing it into It is

kind of combining becoming an amalgamation of

all the powerful Sith Lords and placing it into

the hollowed -out shell of Grievous the robot

from episode from the first series So it's kind

of he's controlling that robot in addition to

taking all the best powers from all these different

Sith Lords After seeing the Emperor becoming

this ultimate Sith machine He takes troops that

will follow him and joins forces with the rebels

in order to fight back against the emperor. So

it becomes this almost civil war in a way between

the emperor, the entire empire because the emperor

has become this ultimate weapon. So I don't know.

I know this one's kind of detailed, but curious

what different directions you could see this

going. There is an incestual scene between Vader

and Leia. because as we all know incest is best

according to the person at books a million it's

like game of thrones territory a little bit and

they have a child that's even more powerful than

um the emperor i don't know i don't actually

don't know where to go with that one so some

ideas i was thinking because i mentioned that

the earth raider has a secret apprentice and

We don't know who his apprentice is. We just

see him, you know, in shadow with a hood up and

knowing that, you know, Vader is not powerful

enough to stop the Emperor in his current status

and he can't get this apprentice any more powerful.

He sends him to a once foe now ally in Yoda on

Dagobah. And when he gets there, it is revealed

that apprentice is in fact Luke Skywalker himself.

But I know craziness because after they capture

Leia, Darth Vader goes to Tatooine and to see

what exactly she was looking for, finding his

son, his long awaited son is actually alive,

taking him and making him his apprentice. So

the idea is that that would have happened in

secret. It's revealed. So and then Yoda, who

sees the light still. That is still in Luke Skywalker

tries to train him and and to not only defeat

the Emperor but also to defeat Darth Vader and

You know to finally defeat the dark side and

then Luke becomes the Emperor Exactly and kills

Yoda. Yeah And and then and then the incestual

scene it never gets revealed They never really

figure out that their brother sister. So Princess

way and Luke hookup. Yes, and then Chewbacca

is a throw rug So the entire purpose of this

exercise was to find out a way for us to get

the intent We really could have done it in the

first one But we figured we'd stretch it out

a little bit give a little bit more content Yeah,

yeah, we wanted we wanted to fake it until we

make it so I don't know how well that went I

I had different ideas. I had fun But yeah, I

just different ideas there and if you had your

own ideas you'd like us to do or Different ways

you would have went with it than what we did

I know we kind of just I think I made them a

little bit too wordy probably could have Died

them back a little bit. I think I went bend this

with it and got really convoluted in times It

happens to all of us Dan, but what you're gonna

do what you're gonna do But before we go we like

to end each episode with a letter and I'm up

this week and you know We're not necessarily

a show that likes to talk about politics and

I never because I don't like talking about them

And I don't think this is really political meant

to be more humorous But it's also just one thing

that really annoys me a great deal Because these

people are crazy and we need to call them crazy

because they're crazy Dear anti -vaccinators,

have you had your shots? The ironic thing is

you probably have because when you were kids

most people who weren't idiotic got their kids

vaccinated now This show is never political.

I I tend to detest politics and the sir they

can cause and however I don't see this as a political

issue or even health issue. It's me It's just

being a rational issue more parents than ever

are choosing to not vaccinate their kids because

of a parent because Apparently they're they're

bored and want to see what it's like to die from

a disease that we haven't seen since the Days

of Oregon Trail. There have been many reasons

why, you know, some have falsely claimed they

cause autism, which has been proven 100 % not

true, and the doctor who made that claim has

even lost his license. Would you trust a man

who didn't have a driver's license to teach your

kids how to drive? Then why trust a doctor who

doesn't have a license to determine what medicine

to give your kids? Plus consider the fact that

it was true. Worst case scenario, would you rather

have a child who has autism or rather have a

child who has polio? I think the decision is

rather easy. Recently on the nightly show, which

I have to say is rather funny and I would advise

watching it, a noted anti -vaxxer said, one of

the biggest apprehensions was due to the fact

that people make money off of vaccines. I think

that's a legitimate claim. We can argue the merits

and morality of making money off of the health

of someone else. That's a discussion that should

be had. But the way I look at it is this. The

people who make all the safety designs of a car

also make a great deal of profit, but I'm still

going to wear my fucking seatbelt because I don't

want to die. Just because someone's making a

profit doesn't necessarily mean what they're

making isn't going to work. People claim it's

a personal choice. Even politicians have come

out and said that you believe in giving chance

to parents to have the freedom. Smoking pot in

the comfort of your living room is a personal

choice. Getting married is a personal choice.

Wearing white after Labor Day is a personal choice,

and fashion football, I must say. Those choices

have no impact on anyone else except the person

doing them. Not getting your shots doesn't. That's

the reason why we're having a measle outbreak

in 2015. I don't remember that happening back

to the future. We got hoverboards, not measles.

Dear leaders of this country, stop perpetuating

this idea of personal freedoms in this cage.

Should the government knock on people's doors

and make kids get vaccinated? Perhaps not, but

people need to step up and call these people

for their craziness. Stop acting like this is

a legit position. They are as loony as those

people that are Holocaust deniers, as loony as

those people who get caught up in the moon landing

conspiracy, and as crazy as those people who

thought it was a good idea to pass the ball and

not give it to Mushar and Lynch at the one yard

line. Thank you, Picaro. Skittles? Unless a respectable

medical doctor tells you that you shouldn't get

your kid vaccinated, then you probably should.

I don't care what Jenny McCarthy YouTube video

you watch or a holistic medicine plan you follow

or religious regulations that you've converted

to. Get your kids vaccinated. It's the shit experience

all over again. Because as someone with a kid

on the way, if you don't get your kids vaccinated

and my kid ends up getting measles because of

you, I will find you and I will definitely go.

Liam Neeson on your ass. There you go. Yeah,

I I know like I we tend not to get into that

type of stuff But I just I don't know that's

like the one thing that I just don't understand

and I deal a lot with Immunizations in my everyday

where I know more about musicians than any probably

Anybody should and the fact that there's so many

people that don't do it for no reason except

for like they're crazy Plus he watched that last

episode of last man standing They had it the

same issue Yes, I was watching I was watching

the nightly show with Larry Larry one more and

yeah, they had this to me She was like the epitome

of the crazy person I assume most vaccinators

most people who don't get their kids vaccinated

and look like like the old white lady with the

frizzled hair and weird glasses and Probably

doesn't go outside all that much. Yeah, she's

kind of what what she reminded me of so it's

just so crazy to me that this is a thing now

and I just like I don't see like another like

other issues I can see like there's a two sides

to the To this issue. There's a good and a bad

I can just the one this there's no no It's just

you know, I think I saw on reddit like the perfect

the perfect mean for it. It's like Many you may

die, but that's a that's a sacrifice. I'm willing

to make Anyways, let's get off of this political

talk. I don't really want to get into it I'm

hurt. I could see just the message boards right

now if someone like I'm posting some gigantic

diatribe about why they're evil or whatever,

but anyways, anything you wanted to go over before

we bring this episode to a close? Yes, I think

that people should not get immunized. It's horrible.

It will grow a third arm out of your belly button.

Actually, I don't give a shit, so now I'm done.

I don't I don't have kids. I don't have one coming

like Whatever just don't get me sick. That's

all I'm asking Yeah, yeah, I was kind of funny.

I saw someone Tweet something about I'm going

to Disneyland and getting Mike and after the

Super Bowl, you know, you just won the Super

Bowl What are you gonna do now? Well, I'm going

to Disneyland and my kids gonna get measles and

die because that's like the kid in the nationwide

ad I just tuned into my Simpsons tapped out and

they make a reference to the Who passes for a

touchdown from two yards away? It was one yard

away too. Yeah, that was honestly like I can't

believe that happened I know by the time this

comes out it'll probably be running to the ground

literally just like the deflated ball thing Yeah,

definitely the flated ball thing which ends up

being not nearly as big of a deal as people made

it out to be but you know not the first time

that ESPN has blown something out of proportion

and then You know and then it's gonna got away

But yeah, also I should mention there's I'm actually

on a lot of podcasts that are being that are

coming out rather soon By the time this airs

there should be a new episode of weekend at the

movies where we talk about our most anticipated

movies of 2015 In addition, there's an episode

of M war coming out where we discussed the MPAA

and the documentary This film is not yet rated.

We'll be doing they'll be doing a lot of cool

things for weekend at the movies it's gonna be

like a little bit of a It's going to be a box

office challenge game. That's that'll be released

soon and also a fantasy draft of celebrities

that when people try where we do this crazy draft

drafting all the actors and actresses of Hollywood

to try to you know Battle one another with different

podcasters. It's it's kind of kind of crazy But

it should be a lot of fun when we do it So and

like I mentioned it was also an episode of simplistic

reviews that was already released we get into

a lot of random talk and random discussion about

fun things and I Reveal a lot of secrets about

myself including some things about glee. I'm

not very proud of no That we and Michelle's huh?

That that I would not be I would not Feel bad

about Well, yeah, you would guess you wouldn't

want your wife here in that. Oh She my wife loves

with Liam Michelle. She'd be like if I said she's

attractive. She'd be like, yeah, she is. I'm

like, see? All right Good taste Carol. Good taste

All right, so it's been kind of an oddball episode,

but you know, it's still fun next week Chuck

I'll be here like you can tell it's just like

with we need that balance to the fourth with

Chuck It's just you need somebody to hold me

back Yeah, hold you back. Hold you down and myself

to you. I got all political this episode. That's

not like me at all That's so strange. You know,

not the secret Anyways, that'll be it for this

bit in the future It's how we roll you live and

you learn but uh, then you get love that'll be

it. Yeah, that'll be it for this week We'll be

shittyus And this has been dan Without Chuck

we miss you bud, and we'll see you next week

And I will always miss you Chuck I wasn't sure

which direction, it almost sounded like the beginning

of Lion King Now it was supposed to be I will

always love you but then I'm like I wanted to

make it into something for Chuck missing but

that song came to my head first for whatever

reason Must be my affections towards Chuck apparently

I mean there could have been like total man crush

pretty fly for a white guy Hmm after seeing the

Emperor becoming his ultimate shit this alter

it he definitely said shit there I will That's

fine after seeing after seeing the Emperor becoming

this ultimate After seeing the Emperor becoming

this ultimate Sith machine... No, it's just in

my head, sorry. That's fine. After seeing the

Emperor becoming this ultimate Sith machine,
