Marvel Comics Reboot: What Can’t Change, What Should Improve

out on the field and had the opportunity to play

with them. To me, those balls are perfect. I'm

breaking the balls in and getting comfortable

with them. I choose the balls that I want. I

go in there and I choose however many balls are

necessary. When I felt them, they were perfect.

I turned around in the huddle and the ball was

ready for play. One ball may feel good the next

day, it may not. I think there's a lot of variables

with, obviously, Mother Nature and with the balls.

You know, I grip it. And I try to throw the ball,

whatever feels good that day. I don't sit there

and try to squeeze it and determine that. I'm

not squeezing the balls. That's not part of my

process. I grab it, I feel the lace, I feel the

leather. Breaking the balls in. Of us breaking

our own balls, breaking the balls in. Have the

balls in play that they want to use. Some guys

like them round, and some guys like them thin.

We'll throw the balls, and if we like a ball,

then we throw the side. Some guys like them tacky,

some guys like them brand new, some guys like

old balls. I mean, they're all different and

you got to feel them and you try to go out and

you try to use the ones that You like the best

them. They also know that how I like the ball

It does sound painful. Gisele Bündchen was really

bouncing on that last night. I heard she had

a hand in it. Bastard. Today we have a bunch

of stuff we're gonna be going over. We'll be

talking a little of Taken 3, a little bit of

American Sniper, but the meat of our podcast

sandwich, I don't know, please. Today we'll be

talking about the recent news that Marvel Comics

will be rebooting its comic book universe and

starting all over. So we'll be discussing that,

some ideas we have, our reactions in our second

segment, but before we get to that, how's the

week been going for you guys? My week has been

awful. You can probably hear my voice is a little

bit different, but that's because I've been sick

for like six days or something. Chuck is using

his unknown voice. Yeah. I'm not even trying

either. I heard you get the seventh day free,

so you should be good. This started off as just

a little cough and then like Monday, like Sunday

and Monday, I started feeling pretty bad and

stuff. I went to the doctor, caught it early,

you know, before it developed into pneumonia

or anything, but gave me some good meds. I got

some cough syrup with some codeine in it and

some other stuff. So I'm ready to rock and roll.

Got a little codeine. Last week we were talking

about cholera, this week codeine. I don't know.

I feel like it's somehow, you know, somehow.

Related to becoming like a, you know, some sort

of medical podcast. Did you did you contract

your your virus while playing Oregon Trail buddy

chance? I don't know. I may have. I don't know

where I got it, though, honestly. Like, I don't

know anybody that had this that I was around.

So you're patient zero then, huh? I guess, you

know, I guess this is where, you know, Brad Pitt's

going to trace the pandemic back to me. Zombie

apocalypse, zombie apocalypse. Well, if you start

freaking out, they're on the podcast, at least

we'll know where to go. So, Greg, have you been

finding any zombie -like plagues recently as

well? No, I haven't. I've been keeping my immune

system rather stable with big doses of some port

wine, which has been doing me very well, as you

can tell by my speech pattern here. But I've

been pretty good. I just was looking at some

emails and... I love sideshow collectibles. I

don't know if you guys have ever heard of them

at all. They do a whole bunch of statues and

stuff for comic. Oh, their statues are freaking

gorgeous. I just saw that you can pre -order

a poison ivy statue that looks like it's coming

like right off the page. It looks gorgeous. There

was too much of a pause there. You thought I

was going to go with a pervy comment. Yeah, I'm

like, uh -oh, where are we going with this? I

would kind of do some pervy with that statue,

probably. It's a little too real. It's probably

like actual poison ivy growing on it. You take

it out of the box and you get it all over your

hands. And you can't do anything really sexual

with it in any way, because it's like 10 times

harder than any body part that you have. So any

kind of foreplay with it, you're just going to

hurt yourself. Sounds like you're speaking from

experience. No. Wow. Anyway, this guy. Things

have been revealed. We might need to reboot this

episode of the podcast with things we cannot

take back. It's the end of the talking in circles

universe as we know it. But we have crazy, crazy

story. I began the podcast talking about. You

know the the crazy deflate gate that happened

with the new england new england patriots and

all that craziness and coming up the weekend

after this podcast is released we do have the

Super Bowl coming out. So I figured we'll do

the sports stuff up front and we kind of discuss,

you know, what we think, who is going to win

the Super Bowl? Who do we want to win the Super

Bowl? And, you know, who should have been there?

I don't know. But did you guys get the chance

to check out the Seattle game? Did you turn it

off like me and not turn it back on until like

craziness started happening? I kinda gave up

on the whole football thing after I just got

totally crushed in fantasy football. I totally

rage quit. Yeah, I understand that. I at least

had fantasy football going for me, but my, you

know, New York Giants, they themselves did not

have much going for them. Greg drove to Boston

and deflated all the footballs. Just for spite.

Spend it! Chuck, how about you? Did you check

out the craziness of the Seattle game? Yeah,

I did. I thought for sure Green Bay was going

to win that game. And I didn't turn it off. I

kept watching it. And, you know, as events unfolded,

I continued to be amazed at how Seattle got back

into that game. Yeah, it was just one of the

greatest comebacks I've ever seen, honestly.

But it was just crazy. Like so many things had

to go right. And they all did. I know it was

just so crazy. And the. The guy I know it's a

lot of there's a lot of reasons Green Bay didn't

hold on but And I hate to put the blame on one

guy, but that guy on the onside kick and he just

caught it You know what I mean? Like who would

have won the game? That or the guy, you know,

ha ha was it ha ha clinton dix, which is still

the funniest name. Yeah How do you take a guy

seriously his name is ha ha And then clinton

dix after it you're like, um, yeah. All right,

you know, he had not named that football player

He did not you know, he had the interception.

He could have one foot touch somebody, you know,

and then the two -point conversion that was crazy

Yeah, the ball was in the air for like 20 seconds

and he had no clue. It was coming toward him

Yeah, I was I mean I was rooting for Green Bay,

but after they started coming back I was like

you I kind of want to see them win this plan

so and then the overtime passed to end it like

that was see I missed that cuz I had a I had

to leave and I was like Right when I had to leave

was like right when all the craziness started

So I was like really holding on to hope and then

overtime happened. So I'm like, ah, I'm gonna

miss it So I actually missed overtime But and

I saw that the Seahawks won. I'm like, yeah,

it's gonna Green Bay's gonna be regretting that

for a long time My only regret is that John Madden

wasn't calling the game because I would love

to hear his take on it. See if he would have

caught that ball, they would have won that game.

They're not going to like this. I mean, boom.

Where'd that come back from? I can't do it with

my sick voice, but... Still better than me and

my normal voice. But yeah, so now we do have

our combatants, I'd say, for the Super Bowl.

So maybe we can start going around who we think

is going to win, and if you want them to win.

Do you have, or do you care, Greg? Do you have

any idea who you want to win this upcoming Super

Bowl? I freaking hate the Patriots. Let my opinion

be known, I hate the Patriots. I do not like

Tom Brady. I do not... like Bill Belichick, I

think they're both pompous asses. The one dresses

awkwardly too good, like really weird, too good.

And then the other one dresses horrible like

a hobo. And so it's like a hipster and a bum.

Yeah. It's like it sounds like, you know, with

their forces combined, they equal a terrible

wardrobe. But aside from wardrobe. It's like

a homeless guy walked into like a freaking old

Navy commercial or something. I just can't stand

either of their personalities. I just think like

they're both like awful. And plus Tom Brady can't

do a high five to save his life. So that instantly

makes me hate him. But yeah, I'm hoping for Seattle.

I think it was an awful year this year. Like

I don't think. Any of these two teams should

really be there. They weren't playing like Super

Bowl Championship teams Like I don't mind the

Seahawks. I'm gonna go for them Do you do you

want to points total Dan or we doing that? Seattle

27 Patriots 24 we'll go with that then that's

just straight out of the air. So All right, give

it give or take a few for Spygate and you know

deflated balls. We'll see. Yep Don't forget the

substance abuse by the Seahawks. I know. It's

like a cheating bowl. Which one can cheat better?

As a Dolphins fan, I'm pretty sure I know where

you're going, where you want to go. But do you

think the Patriots, do you think the Seahawks,

I should say, have a chance of stopping the Patriots?

Or what's your opinion? I do. Well, by default,

I'm like Greg, I absolutely hate the Patriots,

mostly because they're in the same division as

my favorite team, the Dolphins. And I think Chuck

and I both are under the self -imposed rule of

never picking a Patriots player for fantasy football

teams. Oh, absolutely. I'll finish in last place

before I even take a Patriots kicker. Oh yeah,

hell yes. I don't even care. That's how deep

the hatred runs. Even though he was they weren't

my division like I have respect for other teams

like I respect buffalo and you know maybe the

jets a little bit. I just something about the.

Buffalo so is he yeah is he really in. In Buffalo,

he's coaching for the Bills. You think he'd go

to see more sandals, but yeah, he is. Is he the

head coach? Yeah, he's a head coach. Yeah. What

the fuck? I know, because I guess the flow is

like, look how well the job he did in New York.

Yeah, that's mind boggling. I am sorry for interrupting

you, Chuck, but I found it so boggling. Did you

see the there was a an NFL meme where I had a

picture of Rex Ryan with, like, this really confused

look on his face. Like, it was probably after,

like, a questionable, like, call on the field

or something. It's a questionable win. He's like,

we won? But he had this, like, you know, he's

doing the eyebrow and he's like, looks really

confused. And then at the top, it says, wait,

I thought this place said Buffalo Wild Wings.

But anyway, yeah, I just I have. I don't have

a lot of respect for the Patriots. They just

like everything about them rubs me the wrong

way. Like they they don't win with class because

I don't hate them just because they're winners.

Like there was always the Broncos who always

do good and, you know, the Packers and stuff

like that. I don't hate those teams. But when

when you're up like 40 points with two minutes

to go, you don't run up the score on people.

That's just stupid and insensitive. And, you

know, I realize it's football and everything,

but you don't you know, the team is obviously

given up. You don't need to try to like show

how good you are by playing a team that's given

up like harder just to cheat so much. I know

there's probably other teams that cheat, too,

but, you know, they blatantly and they're bad

at it. They do it and they're just bad. They

get caught all the time. So that's something

they're not good at. It makes you wonder, like,

what are they doing and not getting caught at?

Yeah, exactly. Like, yeah, well, we can find

out about the flake gate, but where it's secretly,

you know, have Tom Brady's actually a robot,

but no one's going to know because they're going

to be focused on the flated balls. It's a life

model decoy. So Greg gave us a score. What do

you think the score will be of the Super Bowl?

I'm going to say... I'm going to say relatively

low scoring. I'm going to go 23 to 16 Seattle.

See, I don't have the hatred for the Patriots.

I'm not a fan of them. I personally like seeing

them in the Super Bowl, especially when the Giants

are playing, because they're so good at beating

them over and over again. But I don't see the...

Seahawk or I don't see the Patriots. I don't

know. I don't see them standing up against the

Seahawks defense there They have been like extremely

dominant this year. I know Greg. He said like

none of these teams are like great teams I would

say yeah, there probably hasn't really been a

great team in the NFL like it's you know, quote

-unquote great team probably since the Patriots

went undefeated in the regular season, but I

do think they have a great defense their offense

is Efficient enough, but uh, I think I could

see them shutting down the Patriots I think russell

wilson will you know, he'll I could see him becoming

the super bowl mvp and taking it taking it as

well, but For the sake of being different though

I i'll say tom brady uses his magic since the

giants aren't playing this time and maybe he

can win again and he will he'll take it with

a Last maybe by default or something like that.

The russell wilson will have another nfc championship

-like performance where he throws up more Interceptions

and completions for the first three quarters.

So I'll go with the Patriots 27 and the Seahawks

21 so Dan's getting a free pair of boots for

that prediction. I hope so. I finally Finally,

but yeah, I I'm rooting for the Seahawks. I actually

not really rooting for either team I you know,

but uh, I don't want to see the Patriots win.

So Anyways enough with a sports talk. We apologize

for all our geek listeners that probably skipped

that section It's a Super Bowl time is what we

do but to get into some I guess kind of geeky

stuff Greg and Chuck I know you recently had

one of your infamous movie dates when you went

to go see Taken 3 You know, what was that experience

like? a lot of making out that I'm sorry for

the illness Chuck The people next to us were

probably making out, but... All the teenage girls,

you mean? I don't understand why they were like...

They were about 12 to 13, maybe? The girls that

were to my left? Super annoying. Oh, my God.

Kept getting up and down and... Shut off your

phone. Oh, we'll have our phone on, but we'll

cover it up. That totally makes up for it. Nobody

sees the glaring bright light coming from behind

their hands. It was... But I thought the movie

was really good. I thought it was definitely

better than the second one. I don't think it

was anywhere near as good as the first one. The

expectations that the first one set up, I don't

think anybody can really surpass with that movie.

But I thought it was really good. Didn't like

I'm gonna try to do it spoiler -free I did not

enjoy the fact that Forced Whitaker did not get

the whole thing with the bagels like that I don't

understand all that like this should have been

over in two seconds and he could have saved himself

a whole lot of extra Pain in the ass by just

saying oh, yeah, he's he's he didn't do it because

of these bagels. Yeah Is that actually a thing

or there? That is actually a thing in this movie.

So there is a major plot of development surrounded

by bagels. Brian Mills almost got screwed over

by bagels. Yes, man. I got to keep that in mind

next time I pick up bagels. Bagels. I've heard

like people compare taking three a lot to like

the fugitive. Would you say that's a I think

I even said that to Chuck. Yeah, that's a that's

a pretty good comparison. I think you're talking

about that, you know, the Harrison Ford one,

right? Yeah. Yeah. Where he is wrongly accused

and has to go on the run and try to solve the

murder of his wife and at the same time avoid

being arrested by the police. Yeah. I think I

think the only difference being And the excitement

level was the same but yeah, the excitement was

the same but the Harrison Ford kind of got more

lucky on a lot of his breaks in that but Liam

Neeson was more of his own doing because of his

own skill and stuff like that and Bagels Bagels

is also a big difference between the two Bagels

will do that. So Chuck, did you also do you feel

was improvement from the second one? I do. I

did like the the second one, but I do think this

is a step above that. Like Greg said, you can't

beat the first one just because of it being the

original. And that was such an original concept.

Well, that concept, but plot, I guess. But I

would rank the first one obviously higher. But

this was really, really exciting all the way

through. It tried to kind of be intellectual,

tried to do some twist in terms a lot more than

the other two movies did, but. I felt like the

twist was somewhat predictable. You could kind

of I don't know if you got that feeling, Greg.

What do you mean, like the bathroom scene? No,

no, like the like just the way things turned

out in the end. Yeah. You could kind of see what

was happening. Yeah. Really, like it wasn't really

like a huge surprise. And I won't I won't be

giving away too much with this. But for those

of us that have seen it, I'll just say I honestly

could have done without. the Russian guy altogether.

The guy with the tattoo on the back of his hand?

Yeah, like the I don't know, he was supposed

to be this really creepy Russian special forces

guy. I think the movie could have been better.

He didn't make or break it for me, though. Yeah,

I think it could have been just as good, if not

better, if they totally didn't even have him.

I felt like they just threw him in there to be

like, you know, an extra guy. But he didn't make

a difference for me. Right. Overall I was very

happy with it. I mean I I walked away like Really

entertained which is what a good movie does for

you. I wasn't expecting like You know Oscar winning

performances from anyone by any means to see

I would I would expect that with was taken three

I mean, you're not gonna get any You know mind

-blowing dialogue or anything you even know from

the trailers that he's saying some of the same

quotes from the first You'd at least expect it

would get nominated for best original song maybe

So if you're going into taken three expecting

intellectual, then you really don't know what

you want. Yeah, it is called taken three. You

kind of know what you're getting into. But it's

it's far as like a guy's movie, like action,

like it is awesome. And what I really love, too,

is like them showing just how like prepared and.

everything Brian Mills is like to the greater

extent than the other movies. Like, you know,

he had like secret stashes of stuff and like,

you know, all these contingencies. It was just

like, holy shit, this guy's good. There was a

little moment in there that kind of was like

a little weird to me. Like he had some like sixth

sense, though, which I found a little disturbing

in this movie. He's he's running away from the

cops. And like one of the first scenes where

he's running away from the cops, I found the

ending of that to be a little bit of how did

he even know that was going to be there kind

of? That just was weird to me. Yeah, yeah, I

remember that part. That was a little weird,

but. I know sometimes when like characters are

in a role for multiple films, no matter like

how great they started off off in the beginning

by the third film, even like someone like Robert

Downey Jr. Sometimes his roles aren't as sharp

as it was once was when it started. Do you still

think Liam Neeson is still like, you know, embodying

Brian Mills like he did in the first film? I

think he was. I mean, if anything, he seemed

more like he had more of an edge on him, like

he was more. Kind of more badass almost I don't

know if you want that No throat punching, but

there were some pretty good fight sequences It's

a lot of fast camera movement So you can't really

tell like what the hell he did actually like

I used to do at the blade movies I pause it so

I'd learn the moves Like I go real slow I can't

really do that with this is like so fast, but

now I thought like just as demeanor and the the

way he was talking to his daughter and authorities

and everything. Like he had, he really had an

edge to him. Like he was really pissed off. Like

he wasn't the first one. Very cool. All right.

Anything else on taking three? Go see it. All

right. To recommend from taking three from Greg

and Chuck though, you know, it could be, you

know, they weren't close proximity to each other.

So that could have helped them there in Jordan.

But I'm sure we were quite taken. You know cuddling

does make a movie better. I do a good cuddle.

My hand was between two pillows the whole time

Those were my butt cheeks And tell me that Explains

the warmth and the wetness. I do fly my butt.

Come on. Let's We talked about you know with

taken three not expecting an Oscar level film.

So in response to that, I did see an Oscar level

film in American Sniper, which is also like one

of the biggest box office hits in January and

ever. You know, it made more money in its opening

weekend than X -Men Days of Future Past, which

is kind of insane when you think about it. It's

looking that American Sniper probably by the

end will make more money than all the other Best

Picture nominees combined. So it's just kind

of funny in that way. But yes, I recently saw

American Sniper directed by Clint Eastwood and

starring Bradley Cooper. For those that don't

know, it is centers on the life of real life

American Sniper, Chris Kyle. He was noted for

being the deadliest sniper in United States military

history with approximately 150 or so confirmed

kills. and it centers on his life and you know

his four tours in Iraq and basically it intercuts

that with his life at home as well as him growing

up as a kid as well and overall though I would

say this is probably Clint Eastwood's best film

since Ranch Reno he's kind of been in the sump

lately last year even he made Jersey Boys which

was awful but I think this kind of gets back

to that Clint Eastwood of old I read an interview

and listened to a few interviews with Bradley

Cooper and Clint Eastwood and they indicated

they approached American sniper almost like an

old old western film or the classic John Wayne

movie war movie in which the enemy combatants

are clearly the find it's you have good and you

have bad and you know the the combatants of the

other side are clearly evil people who have no

remorse for Whatsoever, we're all black. It is

they're very much like the bad Cowboys of the

classic, you know, John Ford films Like, you

know, they're evil just by when they walk on

the screen. So they really they approached it

in that in that way So it's interesting seeing

this like biopic Combined with this classic style

of moviemaking from back in the day I think biggest

success of the film comes in two forms and it

starts with Eastwood's direction in the action

sequences and in the war in the battle sequences

They are both extremely intense and really brutal

and he's really great at creating tension throughout.

There's specifically, you know, a number of sequences,

but one that kind of stands out is a situation

in which there is a child involved. I don't want

to give away too much, but it's hard to watch

in a lot of ways. And it reminded me that like,

yeah, Eastwood can actually direct action because

he hasn't really done that. They're not necessarily,

you know, very verbose action sequences. They're

usually isolated, but It's just like the craziness

that that surrounds them. That's really what

brings you in. And also, though, I think the

biggest success of American Sniper comes on the

heels of probably Cooper's performance. Cooper's

been getting a lot of acclaim lately because

of actually this is his third year in a row.

He's been nominated for an Oscar and out of the

last three performances, I think this might be

his best one. I think he's really good in silver

linings. I think he's really good in American

Hustle. But in both of those roles, there's kind

of like a like a swaggerness to him, like you

can still kind of see Brownlee Cooper in those

roles. For lack of a better word, there's a douchebaggery

to him that is kind of a turn off. And so I would

never expect like this would be a type of person.

He would be able to embody this, you know, good

old boy sees life very black and white type of

character, clearly almost military from thick

and thin before he even got into the military.

But he really, you know, gets into that character

on every level. He bolt up. He looks like huge.

He has the accent down perfectly for that. You

would never. If this was your first introduction

into Bradley Cooper, you would never imagine

that this would be the same guy that was in Wedding

Crashers. They're complete opposites. It sounds

cliched, but he really does kind of escape into

the role and you forget you're watching Bradley

Cooper. So I think, personally, I think this

is his best performance of his entire career

so far. At least the most diverse performance

he's given. I disagree. Rocket Raccoon. Well,

you know what? That one was a little bit more

serious though when you think about it though.

I Did have some issues with it. It's not it's

a movie that doesn't ask questions It's more

just about telling stories and I think the only

issue with that is I don't feel like I have a

better understanding of who You know Chris Kyle

is or who this guy is beyond what I already know

new going in it You know, we see how amazing

a sniper is we see he was in a lot of a lot of

battle sequences And you know what he had to

go through but I don't know like it really gets

into What drives him to be who he is or the kind

of the psychology behind, you know who he is.

It's it seems very like There's not much internal

explanation in that in that in that front and

then we see what happened with war does to him

You know, we see how he comes home. He's not

able to handle it But I just I think it would

have been a little bit more interesting if we

figured out what makes him a great sniper We

really don't see that we don't really know what

is we see people react to him We see his work

in what he does But I just I think it would have

been better if we got some more insight to who

he was Probably the best scene that gets kids

to anything regarding what drives him is early

on in the film there's like a flashback and when

he was a child and his brother's getting beat

up beating up on the playground and he steps

in and he fights him and Then after that there's

a there's a scene where their dad is talking

to him and his younger brother and he indicates

that there's three type of people in this world

there are Sheeps there are wolves and then they're

sheep dogs and how he explains like the benefit

of aggression and how Kyle uses his aggression

for good and that's basically Kind of like the

insight that we get it is an interesting idea

like I I think that's the way the movie treats

the that's the kind of the mindset of the entire

film They're just three types of people in the

world So I know there's been a lot of like talk

political talk and whatnot regarding the film

I try to kind of stay out of that talk about

a movie because I just want to talk about the

movie But I I did overall enjoy it. I think there

are some issues with it overall I think it could

have been a little deeper when I can compare

it to something like Hurt Locker, I feel like

I thought Hurt Locker was overall better. I just

thought some of that had even more intense sequences

and I think I got a little bit more out of that.

I guess you can kind of compare it to Zero Dark

30. It's a lot different than Zero Dark 30. Zero

Dark 32 takes a real life situation and really

treats it in a very intense way or very detailed

oriented way where it goes through every sequence.

I would say I enjoyed both of those films a little

bit more, but they're trying to do different

things in Sarah Dark Third than American Sniper.

I don't know if it's nominated for tons of awards.

Best Picture, like I mentioned. I don't know

if I would nominate it for Best Picture. I don't

have an issue with it being nominated. Like there

have been films nominated for best picture. I'm

like, that movie was awful. I can understand

the nomination for sure, but, uh, I do think

it's good. And I think you should seek it out,

especially if you, it's a story that ever interest

you. So I check, I think you would really like

it. It compares actually probably best to maybe

something like lone survivor of last year. I

think there are some comparisons there though.

I think lone survivor is more about the camaraderie

of soldiers. And this is more about this one

guy. Cool. So is it more of pretty much more,

I guess, drama throughout than action? It's a

little bit of both. It's kind of interspersed.

You'll have an action sequence, and then you'll

have him like... Talking with his family at home

like because the way it's split up. It's the

four different tours So in between each tour

that it's him at home. So it's interspersed throughout

it's unlike a hurt Walker Which was it him in

Iraq from beginning until the very end when he's

in like the scene of him in the pickly wiggly

Like this just goes back and forth, which I think

almost might have been a mistake because I think

that's a good thing about Hurt Locker is that

you're in that intensity throughout the entire

movie. So once you transition to back to normal

life, you can feel just how mundane life seems

compared to everything that happened beforehand.

But with this, when you're going back and forth

so much, it doesn't have that great of impact

as much as something like Hurt Locker. But yeah,

I think it does intersperse that really well.

The family dynamic, I don't think. Is super strong.

I wasn't a big fan of the person who played his

wife She was okay, but didn't really Clint Eastwood.

I don't think understands human emotion all that

much Like you look at something like a million

-dollar baby or like when it comes to that like

he doesn't I don't know for some there's a disconnect

there It's interesting because like Spielberg

was originally gonna direct this film David or

Russell as well I think probably would have been

better if it was Spielberg Mostly because Clint

Eastwood has this style to him with it when it

comes to cinematography And it's always really

dark and a lot of shadows and it's just a look

I'm just kind of I'm tired of at this point because

he has been doing it now for a good like 20 years

So I would like to see something a little bit

new from him and actually kind of just a random

funny story I don't know if you guys saw this

but this was on the internet for a while and

it's regarding there's a scene with Bradley Cooper

and a baby and When I was watching it, I'm like

That baby looks really fake. Is that supposed

to end it? Oh, I heard about this. It looks really

it's like that it's not moving and it looks obviously

plastic and i'm thinking well, maybe it's just

trying to tell you how Broken he is and how just

like how we can't even connect so much so that

Even a person in front of him like his baby can't

even recognize that it's a real person So i'm

thinking maybe it's just some sort of you know

in a reflection of what they're trying to represent

here And it's going deep into these movies people.

Yeah, and and it wasn't that at all It was the

fact that the baby that they were supposed to

have was sick The other backup baby was not there

So they had to use a doll like they had no other

choice So it was just they had to use this plastic

doll and it's obviously a plastic doll and it's

just it was just it was an It was just like,

I don't, it was just distracting in that moment.

I'm not gonna, that doesn't make it a bad movie.

Couldn't they CGI in a baby or something? I watched

Twilight to see how awful CGI babies can be.

It was just one weird moment. I'm like, is that,

cause you know, I'm watching it. I'm like, no,

this is major production with Bradley Cooper.

They want to be using a plot and obviously like

it's like a type of baby you would see like in

a sitcom in the 90s or something like that. And

yeah, it was just kind of weird. It was just

kind of an aside. So yeah, it is. You'll notice

that when you see it, it's, you know, it's not

like a gigantic. They used one of the Olsen twins.

You know what? It probably had more life in it

than an Olsen twin. I'll say that, you know,

to recommend. I would definitely recommend going

out and seeing it. And I do think it does benefit

from the theater experience. So. All right. All

right. Anything else before we take a break and

we get into some marble talk? Let's do it. All

right. I highly recommend people don't see machete

as they call it. I watched that this weekend

and it was not that great. I do enjoy the grindhouse

films type of films. This one was kind of a lot

of talk, not enough action. Did you like the

first machete? I didn't I looked for it on Netflix.

I wasn't finding it. So It's all right. It is

that schlocky type of over -the -top. Yeah Which

I enjoy but I think they went more over top in

the story than they did in the action Which I

think they need to put more into the action.

Is that the one that has Charlie seen as president?

Yes, it is I I do enjoy Enjoyed Danny Trejo,

though. I think he does a great job and they

do have some lovely Latino ladies in there So

that's a definitely a good point to that movie.

So and ironically also full plastic. So Alright,

All right, and welcome back. And like I mentioned,

we're going to be talking about Marvel. And if

you have not heard, recently Marvel announced

after the big story this summer called Secret

Wars, they're going to be... Rebooting? Retooling?

They haven't officially used the word reboot.

A lot of people have been using it. Whatever

they're going to use, whatever they're going

to do, we just know that Marvel's universe, comic

book universe, that is, is going to be drastically

different in, you know, some say they're starting

over, starting from scratch, and they're going

to be a brand new day, as you will. And I know

those three words are very, very, very precocious

for all the other Marvel fans, because, you know,

last time they had a brand new day, did not go

over very well. But let's start things off before

we get kind of into the nitty -gritty I was just

kind of curious what you guys think of the idea

of Rebooting a comic book universe. We know we

saw more DC do this not too long ago. People

are already comparing it to the new 52 You know,

are we okay with the idea of rebooting the Marvel

Universe and Greg? I know you probably you probably

out of us keep up the most with current comics.

So I maybe can start with you here. Does the

idea of rebooting the Marvel Universe make you

more likely or less likely to keep up with new

comics? I think it's more likely because they

have them so confusing at this point from going

to story to story and changing things so drastically

from story to story. But it just has my mind

so boggled at this point, keeping up with characters

and having to have all these crossovers and having

to have like so many things crossing and intersecting.

It's just so complicated. It's like a giant knot

in fishing line. Like it's a pain in the ass.

to unravel. I think there needs to be something

done and I'm hoping that this will. make things

a little bit more simple and making the storytelling

get a lot easier for some of their writers and

everything. So I think that might help out business

-wise with Marvel. So yeah, I'm actually looking

forward to the reboot, to be quite honest. I've

only been really sticking with X -Men comics,

which Bendis took over for some odd reason. And

he does like 50 million and he does Guardians

of the Galaxy like can we get toned down on bend

this a little bit? No, I did like his Nova Wait,

that's not bad. Sorry. I think he is Doing Nova

still I'm not quite sure I think he isn't Nova

like a little kid at this point or something

I like the Nova before that to be quite honest.

I thought that was really good I did too, but

I saw I'm in like the I don't know 10th issue

of that series. It's actually really good I like

it a lot, but anyways Chuck I know you're kind

of along the same lines as me like we read some

stuff here and there but mostly picking up in

graphic novel form So knowing that Marvel is

going to hit the reset button Are you at all

inclined to get back into the thick of things?

Are you still kind of gonna keep your current

status of just picking things up here and there?

To be honest, I'll probably just stay where I'm

at I would I would say I'd be more likely to

check out some new comics with with the reboot,

if we call it that. We're going to call it that

if they're not going to call that. Yeah, it's

it's it's a reset. It's a reboot. It's a whatever.

But I think like I'm not even reading as much

as as Greg has been, but I could tell that a

lot of the stories last few years just didn't

interest me at all personally. And I did get

the chance to read a couple of them and. They

just left me wanting a lot more. And I know Greg

has talked about how convoluted they've become

and everything. And I think at this stage of

the game, it's a good move for them to do this,

honestly. I'll agree, but also I'll play a little

bit of default advocate a little bit. At this

point, you know, when it gets to comics, I'm

far more interested in reading like an isolated

story that I don't have to worry about continuity.

I tend to be in the belief that continuity is

more of a barrier than a benefit. Never understand

the idea of like when people will say all now

all the stories I read before this or now mean

nothing because we're rebooting them. I don't

understand that personally to me It's like you

read it you enjoyed it like I don't get the idea

of like somehow you're building up like RPG points

or something like that or By by keeping that

knowledge base or something. It's I think it's

just the idea of like I know this someone else

doesn't so I have more ownership of it I don't

get that idea like I read something because I

wanted to be good If you're rebooting it and

it's gonna be good great if you're rebooting

it and it's gonna be bad bad I get the idea behind

itself the idea of like rebooting it that you

know, that's whatever I think it's it makes me

a little bit more interested because as someone

who doesn't read everything it is tough to Go

ahead and pick up a comic book here and there

you can't really pick up even when a series is

brand new Start reading it because you tend to

need to know like forever and a half of history

and you know, so I Appreciate that they're just

like, you know what? Let's start start anew and

see how it goes and I did read a lot of the new

52 stuff for DC when it first started and everyone

hated that idea of doing that and then that sold

really well and a lot of the comics ended up

working well and People don't seem to really

complain about it that much. So My only problem

with rebooting is the renumbering of the comics,

which makes it a giant pain in the ass to organize

your comics. That's my only issue, which I have

all the time when organizing comics. The benefit

of digital comics. Don't even have to worry about

it. Not to throw that out there, but yeah, that

is true. That's really annoying, especially when

they like they renumber it and then they go back

to the old numbering when they hit like a big

number. Oh, yeah, that's fucking annoying. We're

about to hit five. You know, yeah, that's that's

always a pain in the butt and really confusing

when if you use a database and you're trying

to find a comic, you're like, I thought I had

this comic. It's like, oh, yeah, they renumbered

it for these issues just because they wanted

to be douchey. And I hate DC they had like two

numbers on their comic I'm not sure if they still

do it or not but they had like a number up in

a diamond and then they had one in a box and

I'm like which one is the one I'm going by here

Yeah, yeah, I guess so. I didn't mention that

for me continent news on a big thing But for

you guys do you feel like that that is something

special about comics that having that? History

that expands upon itself for such a given time

makes comics a little bit more richer Do you

so do you think that you are gonna lose that

when we start rebooting it and starting over

I? Think for me personally it does make it it

does make it richer. It's sort of like It's almost

like you know one big story and you're You're

obviously more familiar with these characters,

so it sort of prevents the need to reinvent the

wheel for each story. You can make certain assumptions

and a lot of the readers are going to get it.

So it gives you a little bit more room for creativity

with some stories. But I think each style has

its place. Like you mentioned with. Was it being

a barrier? There are cases where where that's

true and it's better off without that. So, I

mean, I guess it's just what? What what style

you're looking for? I don't really know. Yeah,

in early 2000s, Marvel did the thing where they

had their normal universe and then they had the

ultimate universe where they kind of did the

entire different thing. Do you think having one?

Universe overall so not having ultimates not

having you know 616 just one universe where it

all takes place is a better idea Or do you think

kind of they maybe should have gone back and

maybe just rebooted the ultimate universe. I

Think it's a good idea even like even with me

being into some of the spacey cosmic stories

Like some of those got way out of hand With like

alternate realities and yeah, you probably know

from reading the exiles books and stuff How many

different alternate realities there are it is

just so confusing because it's like you got this

one from this one Yeah, this one's coming from

this reality and I mean, it's like just to explain

the origin of cable, you know It's like well,

yeah, he's from the he Cyclops his son, but he's

older Cause he's from the future, but he's really

from current time sent to the future because

of a techno organic virus and was raised by these

creepy people. Yeah, it's like, uh, yeah, it

is. There is some craziness and yeah, that's

almost like, you know, you could be creative

without creating another alternate universe for.

Everything like, you know what I mean? It's just

felt like you got way out of hand over the last

like 15 years or something It's kind of good.

It kind of feels good to consolidate it again.

I don't know Yeah, everything everything had

to be gigantically huge and yeah, I was kind

of time travel and there's it's funny We were

like there's so much stuff about the universe

that they forgot about like, you know Tony Stark

had like it was a kid for a while and that kind

of just went away so But you know like a brand

new day and like how that you know, we said everything

for for spider -man. So but yeah Yeah, yeah Prime

example too was like like, you know, I'm a big

fan of the Infinity Gauntlet stuff, but they

did some You know, there were some comics where

they talked about the Illuminati and you know

Reed Richards and stuff and Reed Richards met

with other Reed Richards from different universes

and like different realities, and they each had

an infinity gauntlet. And it's like when you

when you read the Infinity Gauntlet, it's like,

OK, this object, like if you have this, it's

the most powerful object in the universe. But

when they brought these stories out, it's like,

well, it only works in that reality. And if you

took it to another reality, it wouldn't even

work. And it just seemed like stupid. They just

made it so convoluted. You have way to go different

things for. Always screwing things up breed Richards.

It's like now we have different versions of it.

It's like that's I don't know stupid No, you

have one for the autumn one for the spring, you

know all these different types of gauntlets you

can wear But I mentioned with cable like he had

a kind of funky origin and stuff like that in

with reboots things kind of stayed the same before

we started recording where we're talking about

like the DC universe reboot back with a new 52

and how they did have Batman not Change a great

deal. So I was curious with Marvel Scott Snyder

With Marvel are there certain like storyline

certain origins that should just be like these

should stay the way they are They should not

change them. These are like linchpins to making

the characters who they are So they should you

know do whatever they can to reap, you know,

keep those intact anything like that come to

mind Spider -man Yeah, I think that one's just

stays true. I think that one's kind of a timeless

origin that could be in any century for the most

part, any decade, any whatever part of time.

I think that one just kind of fits of somebody

losing someone that they love and taking responsibility

for the action. Opposite spectrum. I think person

that always really needs an update every once

in a while with the wars or conflicts that are

out there is definitely Tony Stark because at

one point it was What did he start off in? World

War two, I think no not World War two Vietnam

Korean War and now it's been updated to more

Middle Eastern like the Middle East Gulf War

kind of stuff And so I think that on the opposite

spectrum They're definitely gonna have to play

with which wars he was involved with and so on

and so forth Interesting. Yeah, and speaking

of war, I guess one character that kind of came

to mind too was Magneto you know and his origin

of being a holocaust survivor and when you kind

of think about it if you know these comics who

kind of do take place in present day if he is

a holocaust survivor you know he would there

gets a point where ancients yeah and so do they

Do something with that like he has some sort

of power that makes him age slower like will

reader Do you think maybe it's they could do

something different with him and not make him

a holocaust survivor? Is that too vital to making

him such a great character? I think that makes

him so vital to being that character like I don't

think there's a conflict that really has that

much of an impact as world war two and being

a jewish holocaust survivor like that is like

so important to the character I think they would

definitely have to do something with how he ages

like the magnetism like has some kind of rejuvenation

kind of thing I yeah I tend to agree because

I think that's the whole like that's the whole

thing that makes his character go around because

it's already happened to him once that isn't

not his entire race but a lot of his race was

being systematically Wiped out and he's trying

to prevent prevent that from happening again

with the mutant race So I think without that

background that his character doesn't work Because

you can't identify with him. You don't understand

his motivations without that So they they got

to find a way to keep that and you know, keep

that as his origin I would think Yeah, I I agree

I mean I was trying to think of like other situations

you could place a man that would be similar and

it's really kind of hard to and also think it's

kind of important that him and Xavier Become

who they are during like the civil rights movement

because I think it's a good reflection of those

characters So I mean, I think there's there was

actually a thing in the X -Men evolution cartoon

where he was really old and then Was something

similar to like the machine from x -men 1 he

used it to get younger So there's probably something

that could do and you know, it's he's a mutant

so they could probably say something But yeah,

I agree with you know, Peter Parker that with

great power comes great responsibility That's

something you have to have in order for that

character to be who he is same thing with Magneto,

you know, very strong origins I mean, I can't

really think of many other Marvel characters

that have like Particular origins that you can't

change whatsoever. I mean a lot of them I think

it's more of the basic kind of things the more

Usable that they are through the centuries. Yeah,

that is a basic down -to -earth street kind of

I think you could also do daredevil as well because

boxing could like change boxing to maybe like

UFC fighting. But the father kind of origin can

stay the same and getting hit with some kind

of chemicals. I think that basically can stay

the same. I think Wolverine could stay the same,

too. That's something that could be done in a

modern setting. That's certainly doable. Yeah.

Because he could get so old anyway, and he doesn't

really need to change They just need to lengthen

out how long his healing factor can kind of keep

them young Yeah, so we're talking things we would

like to stay the same were there any things you

feel like okay? They could change this I'd like

to maybe see some adjustments here with this

new universe not really something that could

really change in the comics or the stories, but

the main stories or something that's vital to

their history. But I think Marvel itself as a

publisher can change, switching over, switching

gears so quickly, because I saw a lot of that

in like... X -Force went from a comic that I

really loved, then all of a sudden they switched

into a different gear, different roster, and

then two issues later they switched into another

roster, and like things just change so quickly

and so dynamically. They need to stay away from

that. They need to make it less jarring and kind

of transition a little bit better. So not really

changing. like an aspect of storyline, but changing

more of the rulings in the publishing worlds

of Marvel. Kind of like when they had in the

90s with the X -Men with the blue team and the

red team. Or was it blue and gold? It was blue

and gold. The blue and gold team kind of where

you had those established teams, maybe something

like along those lines where it's more, you know

what characters you're getting when you pick

this book up? Yeah, kind of. X -Force was just

so crazy. It's maybe getting a little bit better

if anything, but I used to be so much better

when Wolverine was leading the team and like

and Phantom X is all of a sudden like it's It's

three people and now one of them like it's so

like it's I feel like they had about 20 people

working on it and they all had different Directions

that they wanted to go and the thing is to look

they have three comics with the same name It's

like X -Force Wolverine in the X -Force and it's

like wait. This is everyone's have cable in the

X -Force. It's just like it's They need to do

something about it. You know, they need to plan

a little bit Better in that way. Yeah, definitely

Greg you're sorry Chuck. You're gonna say something

yeah, I think for me, there's I know one thing

that I would like this he changed is a Stop making

character so powerful And I know that's a yeah

century Juggernaut even like look at the different

versions of juggernaut. They ended up making

like 8th day juggernaut and all this other crap

like it was fine Yeah, and I know that back apparently

now too. There's gonna be another version They're

going with somebody else's from what it seems

like so far, but they're talking about I Don't

know. I don't know who they're going for but

that's that's one of part of the storyline of

X -Force, I believe That straight I know that's

like I don't know if Marvel's trying to keep

up with DC because Sometimes that's a knock on

DC is that their characters are so overpowered

which yeah a lot of times they are like Superman

Green Lantern Like it's just these ridiculous

levels of power. You can't even comprehend and

then you know Marvel started getting into that

too like the cosmic stories back in the 80s and

stuff like were pretty interesting even the early

90s and then things just started to get way way

out of hand and It seemed like they were trying

to keep up with that and make things more and

more powerful. And like, you don't have to do

that to make it more interesting. Like some of

the some of the greatest characters are more

street level characters, so to speak, or small,

smaller villains that, you know, guys like Magneto

and Ultron and stuff like that, like ones that

are really, really interesting and make you think.

But. They're not so powerful that they could

just destroy a universe with one punch or some

stupid thing. Yeah. It's like, you know, Dr.

Doom, who what's great about him is just the

way he can, he's, you know, technically has no

superpowers. I mean, he has some magic ability,

but it just says intellect and ability to like

find issues and solve problems that makes him

so, uh, such a dynamic character. So. Yeah. I

think that's a good point because I love them,

you know, all dilation that storyline But once

you had like characters like Galactus, you know

You had to make characters that could like take

down Galactus and make Galactus into a living

weapon It kind of set the bar and then they just

had to kind of keep topping that over now You

just need to read Richards to come in with some

fantastical weapon that'll destroy him in like

two seconds. That's all you need That's yeah,

that's that's a very good point Chuck that does

focus on world ending problems and more focus

on making interesting stories and you know Right.

And I think the human element and the emotion

that like I was talking about with that Stanley

Jack Kirby story with Galactus, like maybe focus

on some of that stuff more, because like I know

last year we talked about the fear itself story

a little bit and just how fast paced that was.

And it was like they're so concerned about getting

the message across about the power that there

was like no Very little character interaction

and it just like it didn't really make for a

great great story one that's gonna stick in your

memory Very true. Very true. It's just like the

the only stakes they care about are like the

world's gonna end nothing about actual like inner

character interpersonal True, you know some things

I was kind of thinking about too is we know with

Marvel New York has been kind of the hub of a

lot of their characters it's like you wonder

why any criminals would ever go to New York City

because you have a Spiderman you have you know

daredevil, you know even Tony Stark and whatnot

so I They try to do this I think after the Civil

War with like the you know the initiative the

eventual Avengers initiative But trying to spread

the wealth a little bit. Maybe have some characters,

you know We had the Red West Coast Avengers back

in the day and and I know In a lot of ways with

the way comics are and it's almost like worldwide

situations very rarely suggest Located in one

area, but maybe like, you know get something

outside of the US I really like in the new 52

the they had the batwing comic which was like

ended up During the bat ink storyline where you

know batman character in africa And that was

I think a really great idea and I would like

to see more of that I know marvel has black panther

but you know some other characters outside of

they've had things like Excalibur and and kind

of just expanding upon that idea because I just

like to see more places than new york city because

then it's like Why don't they call other people

because they're just next door. It's like why

they just do this by themselves so Mean because

they're off on another mission somewhere else.

I'm not saying they should get rid of New York

I do think it's important that they do keep a

lot of characters They're like daredevil and

Hell's Kitchen is you know, you need that I need

to stay there and you know, Luke Cage and spider

-man But I think there are I you know vendors

don't necessarily need to be in New York City

I mean maybe even in Washington DC or something

like that and then they moved to Iron Man in

on West Coast in California with the movies,

you know, Chicago needs some help Let's throw

some people there So Baltimore maybe hey, yeah

Just saying we got we have Omar from the wire,

but we could use some extra should be here But

uh, but yeah, so that that's one idea too. And

also you talked about greg with like things they

should maybe do a little bit less and One thing

I'm thinking of maybe a little bit less on Deadpool

and a little bit less on Wolverine So we don't

have I I know those guys are big sellers But

there's a thing running characters too thin and

I think Marvel is really guilty of that saying

a lot so I do enjoy Deadpool but there were a

lot of Deadpool titles out there and I think

they definitely They came down with the amount

of issues for Deadpool Wolverine. Well, he's

been dead. So Well, I guess this will be one

way to bring it back so It's kind of funny though

because remember last year when there's all that

huge to do about Thor becoming a woman and the

Falcon becoming Captain America and like what

like 18 months later and then it doesn't mean

anything. Yeah I would like to see maybe building

up other characters more. I'd like to see maybe,

you know, a little bit more focus on Black Panther.

I love that character. I think there's a lot

you can do with him. And you know what too? Moon

Knight. I like Moon Knight and he's had some

really good comics. I like maybe making him,

building him up a little bit more too. I know

he's kind of a Batman ripoff. He's a blatant

Batman ripoff, but he's kind of Batman and Batman

was truly, truly crazy. So I have a character

question for you guys. Okay. One that... I guess

kind of what we were talking about before, but

do you think it could stay the same or could

his origin be altered? And that's arguably the

poster boy of Marvel Captain America. I mean,

is that something you can keep like the World

War Two origin? Because I'm not so sure that

today our country is as unified as it was back

then. And that's sort of where his character

was born from. I definitely think. can be done

because they just find them in the ice later.

But yeah, it definitely adds a different dynamic.

It adds a very big divide between the culture

today and the culture from that time period.

So I think it would just make things even a little

bit more interesting, if you ask me, because

he's even more man out of time kind of situation.

So I think that would make some even more interesting

scenarios going on. So you're saying keep his

origin from World War II? Yeah, I think you can.

Yeah, I agree, too. I would do that as well.

I think you do need to keep it because I think

like Greg mentioned, you can just make him wait

in the ice a little bit longer. Now, I don't

know if that'll be a little bit more brain damage

or what have you. But I signed him in 2016 instead

of 1962. Yeah, exactly. So he'd be frozen. Wow.

Yeah, he'd be frozen for a while. So yeah, I

mean, that would expand his moment out of time.

And you think about I mean, technically that

we just had the Captain America movie. And you

know, I think it still worked really well, even

though it was 2011 when he was wrote. awoken

from the ice. So, and like you mentioned, I think

maybe it's even more, more potent when he comes

to a world that is a little bit more divided

than when he had it. And so, so I, yeah, I definitely

think that is one you have to keep, keep the

same for sure. Nice. Do you think that any other

points you wanted to bring up? I have a few more

questions, but I wanted to see if you guys had

any, any other areas you would like to discuss?

I guess like the, I kind of look at DC was like,

I know they they altered the origin of the Justice

League a little bit. I know we talked about that

on the break, but like they kind of altered the

founding members a little bit and sort of how

they formed. So do you think Marvel should kind

of change the way the X -Men were founded or

the Avengers were founded? Like those are their

two big teams. Do you think they should change

them at all or stick with the original versions?

For the X -Men, you could definitely have Xavier

finding different mutants to fill in the original

roster or something like that. Having some, like,

maybe, like, Psylocke or something come in, like,

something that's a little bit more modern characters

or have, like, Wolverine come in instead of the

original... I'm having a brain fart. Was it four

or five characters? It's Beast, Iceman, Jean

Grey, Cyclops. So I think you could change something

like that. I don't think you change the origin

of why he starts it up, mutants versus human

rights and everything like that, how he wants

them to get together. The Avengers, I think you

could change the storyline. It doesn't necessarily

have to be... Loki's scheme that kind of brings

them together to save the world. I think that

could be something different. I think you could

have different team members going on there. So

I think the Avengers could be a lot more changeable

than the X -Men, to be quite honest. I agree.

I think the X -Men, their their founding members,

a little bit more iconic than the Avengers, because

I think you've asked a lot of people who are

the founding members of the Avengers, and a lot

of people would think Captain America, Iron Man,

and they may not know all of them. You're wrong

with Captain America, people. Yeah, I know, I

know. But I think, you know, changing up the

Avengers would be a good idea. Maybe bring in

Luke Cage as a founding member, maybe bring in

some other characters. I think that'd be a good

opportunity. I know. DC try to do that with like

cyborg and shazam they became founding member

or no that was just in the comic that was just

Like he needs like to be in the comics more to

be quite honest. I love the vision Yeah, yeah,

obviously couldn't make him a founding member

But I do think yeah, hey Pam should probably

still be there and but I'd maybe Luke Cage and

iron fist or you know kind of more of a street

some more street level characters like we mentioned

and maybe even Black Panther Yeah, definitely.

See, I think like I agree with you guys, the

like the origin of the X -Men, like the reason

that's definitely something that needs to stay

the same, because that's sort of what drives

them. But personally, I if I had to make a prediction,

I think they're going to go with Wolverine in

there as a founding member, too, just because

of his popularity. Maybe they'll kind of leave

out someone like Beast. or angel or something

like that. But I think maybe they'll throw in

some popular characters, maybe even like Colossus

or something like that. But that's no Deadpool

in there, Chuck. Yeah. Somehow, I don't know

which one of these things is not like the other.

But yeah, I wouldn't I wouldn't mind them shaking

that up a little bit, as long as it's not too

ridiculous, as long as it's a good reason. And,

you know, they have a good story behind it. Could

be fun. Making Jubilee a founding member of the

X -Men. Oh, I quit comics. I would think they're

going to still have, you know, some form of sentinels,

right? I mean, because, you know, humans being

afraid of the mutants and coming up with some

sort of robot bodyguard things, I would think

they would be back in some form. So yeah. And

sentinels are a story as old as time, Chuck.

And actually kind of speaking about the symbols

you mentioned this already attract a little bit

but you talked about having like less like alternate

universes and Kind of a part of that to maybe

limit the amount of instances of time travel

I feel like everyone can just travel through

time now like that just yeah happens Which you

mean the old x -men and then future x -men coming

to the present -day x -men. Thank you very much

Brian Michael Bendis Yeah, I thought like I thought

that idea worked originally like I think there's

a lot. Yes But then it just like it gets to the

point where it's like, all right. Well Brian

Michael Bendis shit the bed. Yep. Yeah Yeah,

I gotta say I do like what they did with Cyclops

and they kind of made him in almost into an anti

-hero I mean him a lot more interesting but character

nothing they have to do that. But regarding time

travel You talked about sentinels and you have

days of future pasts and iconic storyline. But

then it just became like everything. Like there

are so many different like situations like that

that try to take that idea and almost run it

into the ground. So I would say limit the amount

of time travel. Don't have it so often and don't

make it so easy. Make you know, you completely

destroy stakes when you know, you just have time

travel in your back pocket every second. So yeah,

that goes hand in hand with like the powerful

characters because Uh, I remember reading the,

the days of future past hardcover I got, and

there's a story in there about Franklin Richards

and you know, he's like a little kid and he's

like ridiculously powerful. And it just kind

of ruined the story to me. Like, you know, they

have all this time travel with, uh, Rachel Gray

and you know, all that stuff that's like Jean's

daughter. And it's just, it got so ridiculous

with the time travel and the The power levels,

I don't know. It's funny, too, because you're

thinking about Franklin Richards, and last time

Marvel did something like this was like Heroes

Reborn, right? And Rob Leefield, so. Still better.

I think Rob Leefield is really good. I think

we should put him in charge of a whole reboot.

Yeah. Everyone would have. Little pouches on

their belts. No feet whatsoever. And gigantic

shoulders and massive guns. Really long hips.

Still better than Romita Jr., though, in my opinion.

Not standard guy's art. Yeah, all the similar

faces. I used to like his art, and then you told

me about that, and then it started to steep up

my head. I'm like, yeah, every face is looking

kind of the same. Yeah, check it out next time.

I've totally switched sides now that you've mentioned

that to me. It just creeped into my mind. I'm

like, this does and I after a while is just like,

yeah, Chuck's right. Square eyes, square nose,

square mouth and square chin. And it just looks

terrible. I don't know. Even the women too. Everything's

square on women as well. Yeah. Man, I think I

can find like Greg's favorite comic, which would

be drawn by Robbie. Rob Liefeld and written by

Brian Michael Bendis like the perfect comic for

me dad Maybe we can end on this but one thing

I was thinking too The biggest fear I think with

people when they think reboot I think a lot of

people hate the idea because it's like oh They're

just gonna retell the same stories that they

already told before which in a lot of ways that

it's true you do end up getting kind of the origins

told over again possibly so you might you might

get that but I think there is a some possibility

there, because I think there are some storylines

that Marvel has done that maybe didn't reach

the potential that they could have that maybe

they can do better next time. So are there any

old stories that you really like that you think

maybe or that you dislike, but you thought there

was an idea there they can do better? Anything

that Brian Michael Bendis has started. They could

probably fix to make better ending and just not

drop the ball. That's kind of funny because I

have Secret Invasion written down as one of my

ideas. I think the idea of it, it's a really

good idea. Yes. You don't even have to use the

scrolls, but the idea of this slowly invading

into a country or a world. I mean, it's kind

of like what... They happened in Captain America

2 with Hydra and shield. I think that'd be like

something similar along those lines So I do think

secret and evasion has potential if they don't

do that again. So it's funny that you mentioned

vendis Yeah, that's what he does He always starts

off with these really awesome ideas and then

he always lets you down like the x -men with

bringing in like the original members from the

past and bringing them in and then just not really

doing anything with them that's that interesting

for the most part like it's He's just always

let down like so I'm going too far with that.

sorrows that come to mind with you that you think

hey like I maybe could see them doing that and

doing it a little bit better next time If you

maybe even old storylines or old comics that

stopped that you'd like to see come back. I don't

know. I'm kind of drawing a blank, but I know

there's something there. I know there's something.

What comic I think I would like to see come back,

because it was one of my favorites, because it

was one that actually, Chuck, you got me into,

which was Cable and Deadpool. I really like that

comic it was like a I called it like a comic

that like being a comic Just the dynamic of Deadpool

and cable was kind of cool. So I know I just

not too long ago I said make less Deadpool comics,

but like that came out before Deadpool was like

in everything so I Wouldn't wouldn't mind seeing

that come back or exiles back when it was good

and not He did so good with the X -Men stuff.

I don't know why he went so bad with the exiles.

I think because that's the thing. He just he

didn't like he wanted to make X -Men again. So

but I don't know. So yeah. I know there's a lot

of classic stories that I'm not sure how they're

going to. How they're going to handle them, if

they're even going to try to take another stab

at them or not. But like, you know, iconic things

like the death of Gwen Stacy. You know, Civil

War. That's iconic to me anyway, but you know

infinity gauntlet the story where Where the vision

is introduced and I think it's like even an Android

can cry. You know, it's on the cover and everything

and the whole thing with the vision Yeah, the

whole thing was Galactus and you know, some of

those like the crease scroll war some of those

really really great stories I'm not sure how

they're gonna tackle them if they're gonna change

them at all cuz You're talking about like some

of them pivotal moments and characters histories

like especially spider -man with Gwen Stacy That

I guess that's the question is they do reset

this universe Where do they reset it to you know,

is it the 90s? Is it like they completely just

begin wherever they want to so I mean that's

a question like cuz The new 52 technically didn't

start day one, you know, so that started in the

midst of a lot of characters. Like a lot of stuff

was already established, like we mentioned with

Batman. So would that be like with Spider -Man,

like where Gwen Stacy already happened? That's

a key question. But you know what? Honestly,

one thing I wouldn't mind seeing is Know this

would be kind of controversial because Peter

Parker such a huge part of the spiderman and

I mean He's part of Marvel is I wouldn't mind

seeing I don't know being miles Morales into

the Marvel Marvel universe in some way like the

616 or general universe. I I started recently

reading like his Comic book that like his introduction.

I really liked that character So I really hope

that he doesn't go away in this reset because

I think there's a lot cool I really like the

the direction that you know that that character

is heading so I hope he doesn't get lost in all

I wish we could get on the same page. You seem

to be constantly revolting against me. All I

try to do is things that I think would make you

happy. I try to give you. all of our favorite

foods. But when I do, we just sink the toilet

with a brown cannonball and you get disgusting

looking. Then when I decide to take things in

a different direction to make you happy, you

still throw a bitch fit. You get literally sore

at me and make it hard for me to move around.

I'm lazy enough without the extra help. Also,

the weight comes off ultra slow. Could you at

least meet me halfway somewhere? Another matter

we need to discuss is hair. You're awesome on

the top of my head and okay in other few select

places, but I think you're going a bit overboard.

I think we need to pace ourselves here. We need

to reserve some of that for my later years. I

would not make for a good bald guy. Bruce Willis,

I am not. Plus, girls like fuzzy puppies or cats,

not fuzzy boyfriends. Well, at least not nowadays.

I would have had a flock horn back in the 70s,

which would have been awesome. I'm not a big

fan of afros in ladies danger zones, though.

like that. Lastly, I will be 30 this year. A

teenager I am not. Thank God. I think I should

be allowed to be zit -free for the rest of my

days, especially since I had to take some deadly

pills back in the day to get rid of a majority

of them back in the day. The blood tests weren't

fun, body. So can we get rid of this zit that's

been on my cheek for the past two weeks? Thanks.

Oh, and P .S. Go fuck yourself. But yeah, man.

I was laughing on mute, damn it. Yeah, turning

30. I did that last year. So good luck. It doesn't

feel that much different. I'm not gonna lie It's

just a number. Yeah But I wish I still wasn't

fat and I wish I didn't have as much body hair

as I have and I wish I was still Not getting

zits. I wish my back didn't hurt. I wish I didn't

sleep as much as I have to And imagine if you

didn't have to sleep how much stuff it would
