Hi, this is Greg. This is Chuck. And this is

Dan. And we are Talking Circles, brought to you

by the GeekCast Radio Network, the podcast that's

all about Marvel all the time. Well, at least

this episode is. We are again coming to you live

from Charm City, Baltimore. I should say live

to record from Dan Clark Studios, also known

as My Kitchen Table. Chuck and Greg are here

again. It's a special in -person episode. We're

doing double duty two weeks in a row. Hopefully

this will be as good as last week. But before

we get things started in today's special theme

episode, which will be all about Marvel inspired

by the recent release of Captain America. How

has the week been going for you guys? Not much.

Just enjoying what the Charm City has to offer.

I'm digesting the delicious burrito that I had

earlier today with you guys, so that's going

pretty well. Yeah, and we are digesting it with

you. But Greg, how about yourself? How's your

week been going? I never realized we shared a

stomach. Well, when you eat Mexican food together,

you digest it together. It's a communal experience.

I've been alright, except for... an experience

at the movie theater. I'm a little traumatized.

Had to go to the bathroom, walked in, everything's

as normal. Went over to one of the urinals, did

my business, and as all the guys do, we kind

of focus ahead and try and keep our business

on our own situation going on. No cheating on

your other neighbor's paper, basically. Keep

your eyes on your own business. I'm not... I'm

not checking out the watches that they're wearing

on their wrists or anything. But I happen to

notice out of the corner of my eye, a gentleman

was wrapping up his business for the day. And

it was very noticeable that he was wrapping up

his business, because He had to as all as all

guys do we kind of try and shake off a little

bit of the excess well this man did not just

shake off a little bit of the excess i think

he had a convulsion next to me if he did any

harder he would have ripped his equipment off

so i was i was a little scared for him was he

treating it like a lawnmower that wouldn't start.

Yeah, he was really pulling on that chain. The

dangers of the communal restroom, I guess. I

think it was a choke start. He did it more than

once, too. To run a good business, you gotta

keep your equipment in working order. Yeah. But

more than two times and you're playing with it,

I'm just saying. I think he only did it two times,

but I think the veracity that he did it with.

There's certain times when you don't want veracity

used, and that is the occasion, to say the least.

But the movie that we did go see that has been,

you know, the big huge world hit the first summer

blockbuster and thank god summer's here and that

way winter's finally over or spring i guess i

guess summer starting earlier every year and

that the letter finally got to mother nature

people it did i i should have emailed it but

i sent it snail mail i thought she would appreciate

the sentiment but she didn't that bitch uh we

saw captain america the winter soldier like everyone

else in the world based upon the box office And

I guess we've been talking about it because it's

impossible. We can't just shut up and on the

car right here and not talk about it. But I have

an idea of what you guys thought about it. So

did you guys enjoy Captain America 2 The Winter

Soldier? Chuck, what did you think? I thought

it was fantastic. I really enjoyed this movie.

It was one of those movies, obviously being a

huge Captain America fan that I was really looking

forward to going in. And I'm always kind of scared

going into a movie with such high expectations.

But I got to say, This lived up to it in every

way and I was not disappointed at all. First

and foremost I wasn't disappointed by the action

at all. Some of those fight scenes were freaking

incredible. Just the choreography. I enjoyed

seeing his fight scenes with the Winter Soldier.

Also a couple of smaller characters like Batroc

the Leaper who the comic fans know is one of

Cap's little less famous villains but... pretty

nice twist that they threw him in there and that

was played by mixed martial artist George Saint

-Pierre from the UFC fame and that was a great

little fight scene in there and just just the

overall action fantastic for me and what I also

enjoyed about it was that it was sort of a political

thriller it was a little bit of a mystery and

kind of a who do you trust type thing there was

a whole lot of misdirection in there and you're

not really sure who Cap should trust because

he's not sure who he should trust. It just creates

a great web that they kind of weave and you really

find out who the people are that he trusts and

that he wants to keep in his inner circle and

you really get a feeling for more so than the

first movie of his values and his morals. He's

got the straightest moral compass of anyone and

this movie kind of makes him question some of

those values and what's the right thing to do

but at the end of the day he really sticks to

them and doesn't deviate at all shows himself

to be the terrific leader that he is and to be

the the master fighter and strategist that he

is a very very impressive movie for a a captain

america enthusiast i think it really lives up

to what your expectations of him would be what

you would want to see in a movie. Just from reading

comics and things like that, I think that he

lives up to it very well. Greg, what did you

think of Captain America? Like Chuck, this really

met my expectations. I'm going to start off with

my very tiny gripe that I have with the movie.

It had a lot of camera movement with the action

scene, which I think kind of made it hard to

figure out what was going on in the action a

little bit. But other than that, I thought it

was really great. I like the fact that it takes

place in the present, which everybody was kind

of I think there is a consensus of, well, is

this movie going to be any good? Because we're

in a different time now is the I think everybody

likes the first one because it took place. in

the past and I think there was a lot of, is this

going to be as good because it's in the present?

I think they kind of take care of that because

it takes place in the present but it really harkens

back to the past. Captain America deals with,

it's the man out of time situation so he's dealing

with the situation of making new friends, figuring

out... social situations. You've got that but

you've also got some people from his past coming

back, some to haunt him, others to kind of give

him hope and show him the way and... You definitely

see how his past and his past ideals in today's

present environment kind of are in constant conflict.

How Nick Fury sees the world and how he sees

the world and way back when I talked about that

man out of time storyline, it kind of... got

into some of the same ideas where it's he's protecting

the fight his country but it's not as simple

as then there's no nazi germany it's there's

no extreme evil that you can point to and say

these are the bad guys there are but the question

is who are the good guys and that's a harder

question to answer and we think they really expand

upon that even further Sorry to cut you off,

Greg. No, it's fine. And I thought they had a

lot of great characters in there and everything.

And I know Scarlett Johansson really wants a

standalone Black Widow movie. And personally,

I think she should really get it. I thought there

was an interesting part where she's kind of leading

Steve Rogers along because she's more espionage,

whereas Steve is more the soldier. and she was

kind of leading them through and I thought that

was a really interesting concept to kind of go

along with her and kind of learn from her so

if they could do a movie that's kind of like

that I think that would be an interesting idea

and I really like the Falcon in this I thought

they did a great job with him and I thought he

added that little bit of humor in there that

it It might have been lacking without him, but

he does take on a pretty badass role, I think,

in it. And I thought they did a great job with

Bucky and how he looks. I thought that looked

really great. And I highly recommend people looking

out for stuff in the background. I think there's

a bunch of cool stuff. If you're really keeping

a sharp eye on it, they have some interesting

things going on. Yeah, a lot of Easter eggs.

Yeah, there was one that I was particularly excited

about that I don't think many people are gonna

If you didn't read the comic books, and you don't

know the people behind the scenes of comic books

You may not pick up on it. I didn't pick up on

it until you mentioned it And one of the other

things I really wanted to mention was I just

was surprised of About how this ended because

it just shakes everything that Marvel has built

up in their movies. They have really shaken their

foundations and I think they may have like knocked

some of it down. I'm interested to see how they're

going to build that back up again. Yeah and also

I will agree with both of you and I really really

loved it. A lot of high praises are coming into

this movie, a lot of high expectations and admit

it. a great deal. If you didn't go based upon

plot, probably the most complex of all the Marvel

movies, directors who made it indicated they

wanted to kind of make it like a Cold War thriller

of the day, like a Three Days of the Condor,

which is why they kind of got Robert Greffer

to be in it, and I see that. There are a lot

of those elements. There's elements like we mentioned

who we can trust, those elements of, you know,

the twists and turns, a lot of the action, though

it's really big and really huge, it's scaled

back in some... instances a lot of just like

gun shooting, hand -to -hand combat. There's

no space battles or anything like that. It's

more your classic, like almost old school action.

And I think too this had a lot of great character

moments. There's some great moments with Captain

America just trying to... get a hold of today.

There's one with him visiting Peggy, which is

from the comics. It was an ultimate in a lot

of places. I just wanted to say I found that

to be one of the saddest moments in the film,

just because if you had anybody in your family

that's ever had Alzheimer's, it kind of hits

your heartstrings a little bit. Yeah, and it

was done really well and very tastefully. It

was really... Surprising the way they went with

it, and I think that it really said a lot in

that one moment and with Captain America in general

He's saying things like he doesn't know what

the right thing is he wants to do the right thing

But it's so hard to figure out what that right

thing is anymore because the world's a lot different

And how he does stand up to fury when no one

else does because he doesn't necessarily agree

with what he's doing The world is is essentially

gray at this point. There's no more black and

white. Yeah I mean I didn't have some issues.

I did think sometimes that it did try to place

in humor when it didn't need it or would felt

forced. There was like a running joke of trying

to get Captain America a date with the Black

Widow and they would go back and forth with it

and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't,

sometimes I'm like it just I think they're trying

to force it a little bit too much. I did like

Falcon a great deal. Anthony Mackie and Chris

Evans had really good chemistry. They did have

that instant friendship that was formed. But

sometimes it's the way that Falcon looked, mostly

in the slower moments when he was revealed. It

looked a little bit awkward, but in action it

looked great. There were some great action beats.

And I see what you're saying, Greg, with some

of the action because there are some shaky cams.

become easy to get lost in what's going on. But

overall, I loved a lot of the fight scenes. Anything

with like Captain America and Winter Soldier,

I just wanted to keep going. I'm like, don't

end. This fight is awesome. Keep it going. The

Batrach fight in the beginning, that was really

great too. Finding new and interesting ways.

And there's a lot of twists and turns in this

where I didn't expect it to go. And it opens

up the doors for a lot of possibilities in the

future. And two, it's really, like I said, really

plot heavy. There's You could easily make this

movie, a lot of this into your old classic Cold

War thriller, just with a superhero. And then

at the end there's a gigantic action set piece.

And two, I just loved, as a person, I know you,

Greg and Chuck, haven't read The Wrencher Soldier.

I have, it's the story that got me back into

comics. And it's made me realize how great Captain

America can be when done right. And they got

the story right. Any fan of the story, I think,

would have to walk away from that movie saying,

They did it justice. They took out some of the

great moments and they put it in. Some really,

just even from the covers, certain shots that

I'm like, oh wow, that's a perfect shot. That's

right from the comic. Some of the lines, some

of the, even if you saw the trailer, that moment

of Winter Soldier catching the shield. A lot

of that's right from the comic, and I think even

more so. And just how that Winter Soldier plotline

by itself was really great. But there's a whole

other plot besides that which is just as interesting.

So I thought that was really great. And even

like everyone seemed to kind of get their moment,

like Nick Fury, Black Widow, Falcon. Everyone

has a role to play, even Robert Redford's character.

So yeah, I would highly recommend it. But I guess

the question is, in the world of Marvel movies,

do you place, where do you place this? Is it

their best so far, second best in the middle?

Where do you place this regarding Marvel films,

especially like phase two? Well, I think personally,

so far it's probably the best of the phase two

films. I did like Thor the Dark World a good

deal. I think this is kind of a cut above that.

I wasn't a big fan of Iron Man 3, so I would

definitely put Captain America Winter Soldier

at the top of the Phase 2 projects. And I would

put it right up there with Avengers as far as

all the Marvel movies. I probably had a little

bit of bias towards Avengers just because of

the team up in it. And that's like an extra added

geek factor and stuff like that. But I think

the plot, like Dan mentioned, The plot of Winter

Soldier was a lot more complex than the Avengers

plot, which was actually pretty simplistic. Point

and shoot. Yeah. So if you're into something

like that and some type of a thriller and a mystery,

this plot kind of blows that out of the water.

The action, I think, is pretty much on par with

Avengers. It's tastefully done, though. It's

not too over the top like the Hulk taking down

some gigantic creature. It's a lot of like...

hand -to -hand combat but that suits Captain

America perfectly and that's another thing too

that I wanted to mention is that they they really

showed off Cap's fighting skills in this one

and a lot of the comics fans know that he's kind

of Marvel's equivalent to like Batman something

like that he's like an expert hand -to -hand

fighter and they they portray that really well

in this movie so those sort of action sequences

it's it's very tastefully done and they know

the limitations of their characters and they

stay within that it's not there's a couple moments

that maybe a little too over the top but for

the most part it's really well done and i i really

love you guys mentioned falcon and how great

he was in this movie and i couldn't agree more

with that i think anthony mackey did a terrific

job like dan said there was instant chemistry

on screen with chris evans and you could just

tell from the get -go that Sam Wilson, who is

the Falcon, you could just tell from the get

-go that he's just such a nice guy. You could

tell that he's a good guy. It's just one of those

people that you trust immediately and it turns

out that cap goes to him when he's in need and

he sees him as someone that he can trust. I was

kind of surprised at how well that they did that

part of it. So definitely a lot more complex

than an Avengers type movie. I guess it's more

about what you like, you know, what do you want

out of your movie. So Greg, what do you think

out of the second wave? I agree with you, Chuck.

I think it's the top. I do think Thor is is kind

of right on its ass. And I agree. I didn't care

for Iron Man three as much as these or or pretty

much a lot of a lot of the other ones from phase

phase one. But altogether, Avengers definitely

has as the the top spot. It wins out. because

of quantity, one of the very few times that quantity

trumps quality just a little bit. But I definitely

see this movie competing with the top competitors

from phase one, like an Iron Man one. Would you

say that it beats out the first Captain America

movie? It's hard to say because they're so different.

It's like the first Captain America is like Raiders

of the Lost Ark and this one is like the classic

core thriller so stylistically they're so different

but I think an overall package like for an entire

movie, action, plot -wise, I do think this one's

better but I don't think the first Captain America

could do what this one did because you had the

origin. you that you had to tell you had more

to do. This one could just be could just be a

normal story. So I don't know. I don't know if

it's better. It's hard to say because just coming

from it. But at this, my first thought is, yeah,

I think I like this one a little bit more than

the first one. I think this one was a little

bit more grown up to than the first one. I thought

this one was surprisingly more brutal. Yes. Yeah.

It was very brutal the action just even though

just soldier who just likes throwing people into

things Yeah, or kicking people into things yeah,

he likes yeah It was it was brutal just with

characters kind of getting hurt like that's the

one thing like in a lot of the movie is we You

don't really see characters bleed or really get

like hurt this one He's like, wow, some of these

characters might not walk away from this. So

yeah, that's very true. And even some of the

bones that Black Riddle was breaking on people,

you could just feel every hit. Yeah, the sound

department did a good job. Yeah, you hear all

the crunches and you feel every hit. It was pretty

spectacular. I was going to say, Winter Soldier,

he was kind of playing the whole thing like a

video game, like a smart video game player. Instead

of beating his enemies to death, just kick him

over with one shot. kill him or straight off

instead of taking the time to keep punching.

Yeah, I mean, I think that's what separates.

Well, I thought Red Skull was great in the first

Captain America, but a lot of the Marvel movies

haven't had great villains. Some have, some haven't.

Loki being the best villain so far. Yeah, Loki

by far is the best. And Winter Soldier, though,

is close. I'd say close second at this point.

He's almost like a Terminator character in this.

He's just frightening. He's just like never stopping

keep moving and But then when you I don't want

to I know most comic book fans know the backstory

to him But when you find out like his story and

everything like that you realize there's so much

to that character And I think it touched upon

it a little bit, but my I do wonder for you guys.

Did you feel like it? Adapically explained without

spoilers just basically explained who the Winter

Soldier was Did you like did you walk away realizing?

Okay, I get I get that character or do you still

kind of not understanding the purpose behind

him? I knew who he was I was Very aware. I did

enjoy that moment in the theater where one person

go When it was revealed and I was like really

you don't know this I thought they adequately

explained that. They did a couple shots of the

past to Kluie in that way. There was some dialogue

between Winter Soldier and Robert Redford's character,

Alexander Pierce, that I thought tied that up

as well. I don't think the visuals... really

helped that much because I think you agree with

me, Dan, because I think you stated earlier in

the day when we weren't recording that if you

didn't see the first one, you'd be clueless.

You'd definitely be clueless. But it was kind

of hard to match the character, how they have

them in this film. How he had him in the how

he looked in the first film. They looked kind

of different with hair Maybe how the makeup was

and his physical stature Overall like his look

is a very distinct like the character that like

the guy who placed him. He looks like a normal

dude So I think that's that's kind of the issue,

but Chuck. What did you think? Yeah, I thought

it explained it pretty well You know like Greg

said they showed they showed some actual flashback

footage from the first Avenger first film and

They even gave a little explanation, you know,

Black Widow kind of gave her a little explanation,

filling us in on what happened kind of while

Cap was taking a little nappy in the ice. And

then you also get Cap's version where he kind

of deduces what actually happened, like judging

by what he found in the first movie and what

he's putting together in this movie. I think

they did it really well. For anyone that didn't

see it coming and didn't know the backstory,

I think that they came away from it understanding

it pretty well. Very cool, very cool. I will

say, if I were to place this within Marvel, I

would, at this point, I hate doing this at times,

even though I'm the one to ask the question when

something just came out, but I would probably

say... Would put it below the Avengers just below

with the Avengers I think overall I like a movie

standpoint when it comes to plotting It's probably

more complicated, but I think the Avengers is

just like that iconic gem. That's hard to really

match But completely yeah compared to all the

solo films. I would say it's really up there

I think it's the best sequel that they've done

so far I don't think he would count the Avengers

as a sequel. Unlike you guys, I guess I really

did like Iron Man 3. It surprised me. I went

into that with little expectations. Maybe that's

why I liked it more than I was anticipating.

I liked Thor 2 as well, but unlike the other

individual films, I think this one, more so than

those, moved the character forward of Captain

America and really kind of added some subtext

to him that you needed. Definitely. That was

one of the points that I wanted to make where

I had like... two kind of points that are related.

Like Dan said, they developed Captain America

further. I think there was a lot of, you know,

maybe people that weren't familiar with the comics

at all and just experienced these movies from

the cinematic aspect. There were a lot of people

that questioned Captain America's presence in

the Avengers. Like, who is this guy? Like, what

can he do? He's leading the team and he's wearing,

like, red, white and blue spandex, you know?

I think this movie really establishes more of

who he is and establishes him as a more formidable

hero. It really kind of gives him, to reference

our last episode, it gives him a lot of badass

points. And I think there's a lot of moments

in this movie, in the Winter Soldier movie, where

Cap gains a lot of badass points. He didn't need

to win me over, but it was really exciting for

me to watch. There were a lot of... really cool

moments and I think also the other point I wanted

to make is if you are a huge Captain America

fan and I know I'm saying this because this is

kind of how I felt usually when you when you

go into a movie that's kind of based on your

favorite character you're worried how he's gonna

come out you're worried if they're gonna change

some core element of him and with Cap it's his

it's his morals it's his it's his leadership

and just his his plain ability to do the right

thing and always know the right thing to do and

They really convey that well in this movie it

really It really shows who Captain America is

I think even more than the first movie did it

really developed his Just his strength of character

his strength of will and there was even a moment

in this Winter Soldier movie where he says he's

honestly doesn't care if he's the only one that

feels this way, he's still going to do it because

he knows it's right. And he wins over a lot of

people like that and people hold a lot of respect

for him. So I think coming forward with this

movie, Cap's going to gain a lot of fans and

kind of holds his own in the superhero universe.

Yeah, definitely, definitely. And one thing I

got to say is I love the uniform. I love. I was

thinking the same thing there. Yeah. Wasn't a

big fan of the suit from the Avengers. I love

the first Captain America outfit and I really

love this one because it's like the the outfit

from the super soldier or when he was a director

of shields Yeah, this is like the one star I

love that outfit and I'm glad they went back

to that because the one from the Avengers was

a little bit a little bit too corny and I didn't

really look a little Unpractical, but this one

felt very practical and felt like an actual uniform

So it was a little bit more modern and went a

little bit more minimalist with the color scheme,

which I really like. I actually have the T -shirt

of this kind of design, but more towards the

comic books. And I always I always like that

outfit. Yeah, very much. Anything else before

we take a break and kind of get into our other

Marvel stuff for the podcast? I just I just wanted

to add that there was a point in the movie where

Captain America returns to his apartment and

Kind of hear some suspicious noises coming from

inside a little bit of music and I remember I

remember seeing the way he kind of looked and

he just looked really suspicious and I remember

thinking okay, you know if I were in that situation

I would go outside climb up the outside of the

building and go in the window and Turns out that's

exactly what he does and not saying I'm Captain

America material, but you know just saying, you

know, I think like the man So and I do drive

a Chevy truck, which he also does in this movie

So yeah, just saying if the job opens up I'm

available Marvel. I'm here. So you you have no

issue wielding the shield. I say Greg, do you

have something? Yeah, I just wanted to add one

more thing I know there was some inklings of

maybe coming out with a Agent Carter, Peggy Carter

TV show, and I thought they had a lot of great

elements in the movie to kind of show what a

TV show would look like. And if they are basing

a TV show off of the different elements that

they played in the movie, I am super excited

for it. I love the one shot they did. And if

they combine it with the stuff that's going on

with this movie, I am Uber excited because of

one of the the characters they they reveal that

could play an integral part in in the TV show

and I think it would just be freaking incredible

Yeah, absolutely. I would be looking forward

to that so that agent Carter show as well and

speaking of TV shows I also wanted to mention

too I don't know how many out there really following

the agents of shield program right now, but they

actually did some pretty cool tie -ins with the

episode that came out prior to the Captain America

movie. They did kind of a direct high -end with

one of the agents going into this movie. You

see things play out in the movie and I think

it would be really interesting to see how it

affects Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D. from here

on to the rest of the season because there's

some really direct links in there that I honestly

wasn't expecting and it was pretty cool to see.

So and they've kind of been leading up for a

few weeks now that There's people in S .H .I

.E .L .D. that they can't trust and there's a

little bit of internal espionage going on there

and I thought actually they tied it in with the

big screen really, really well. So if you kind

of fell off the map with Agents of S .H .I .E

.L .D. I would recommend catching up and then

catching the last few episodes of the season

because I think it fits in really well with it.

I want to go back and re -watch it because of

all the little tie -ins and see how it goes together

and it does really... make you wonder how they're

going to continue that show. Not to give any

spoilers away, but like Greg mentioned, it completely

revamps Marvel, and I thought I had an idea of

where they're going, but after this, I'm not

really sure. There's a lot of different things

they can do. Alright, we're going to take a little

bit of a break here, and when we come back, we'll

be discussing all things Marvel, so we'll see

you in a bit. You know, kids, a lot has changed

while your old uncle Joker's been away. New Gotham.

New rules. Even a new Batman. It isn't 65 years

in the future, but Legends of the Dark Knight

back. And we're gonna begin this look at Marvel

with kind of the starting... What Marvel movies

we would like to see, like Marvel one -shots,

props, Marvel direct -to -DVD movies, all different

ways we feel like Marvel can kind of expand upon

what they're doing, because obviously they need

our help. It's not like they're making a lot

of money or anything. They need the help of podcasters

that really take it home. So I'm going to start

things off by looking at what movies I think

Marvel should make. There's a lot they can do,

but I kind of try to spread the wealth here,

thinking of different areas in which they can

touch upon. and my first one is inspired by just

seeing Captain America and me watching the first

one and that is thinking you know what team I

think can go even further what team like what

people think see more of I think that's the Howling

Commandos in the first Captain America you got

some good action but it was a lot of montages

you didn't get like a lot of straightforward

like action sequences there was one or two but

most of it was through montage I would love to

see more missions with the Howling Commandos

like a There's so much you can pull from. They're

in World War II. You can have Captain America

in it. You couldn't... You could just use some

of the other characters. They're very colorful,

like Dum Dum Dugan, and a lot of those characters

could be used for the one -shot. And Peggy Carter

already has one, so maybe, you know, maybe it'd

be like, he kind of already did that, but I think

the Howling Commandos, they're such a name with

the comics, you know, obviously you're not gonna

have Nick Fury because then H doesn't work out,

but... I think maybe if you have a white guy

with an eyepatch, that's just like a callback

to the old Nick Fury or something like that.

But I don't know. I just thought it'd be cool

because I think I like those characters and I

would just want to see more of them. I also like

the actor that plays Dum Dum Doog and I always

think he does a really good job in his roles.

Yeah, and he was in Bandit Brothers, too. I do

like that actor. He's in a few things. I don't

see him around as much anymore. He was actually

just in a commercial. I think it was for Chevy.

Oh, you're right. You're right. Yeah. It was

kind of the big car brand in Captain America,

the new movie here. True, true. I think he was

in the movie with The Rock, too. Walking Tall.

Yeah. The other one I want... I would love to

see made. We all know when it comes to direct

-to -dvd, animated movies, Marvel is lacking.

The number of gems are very limited. They don't

really have that many great ones. But there are

a lot of stories they can pull from. And they

aren't really taking a lot of their good stories

and making them in the comics. And I'm thinking,

what stories are out there that I don't ever

seen being made in live action? The way things

are going, I think Marvel will do anything. But

one that comes to mind, one that I really loved...

was Annihilation. The cosmic story of Annihilus

kind of taking over leaving the negative zone

and attacking the universe and it has all different

characters from the scrolls to the Kree to Nova

Force and there's so many characters there that

it's kind of hard to do that for a movie but

for a Direct -to -DVD animated movie you can

be maybe a little bit more lenient you can rely

on people thinking that they'll know more about

the characters and I just think that story has

so many potential with Thanos and Galactus and

so much Silver Surfer. It has like all the heavy

hitters in the cosmic universe and it was such

a great story. I think it would be fantastic

to see it on DVD or Blu -ray animated movie.

This one you guys might have because to me it's

like this has to be made. This is a character

that needs a movie and I don't know why he doesn't

have one and he should and I don't know why it's

not been announced because I even think have

the perfect person that could play him and that

is Black Panther that he should have a movie

I love the Black Panther he's one of my favorite

characters he has So much history behind him.

He's such an interesting character, you know

being a king of his own country being a warrior

He's one of the few people that can stand up

to Captain America and like go toe -to -toe and

hand -to -hand combat and I I thought this guy

should play Black Panther since I saw him in

the movie Serenity. And that's Chiotel Ejiofor,

who was just in 12 Years a Slave. He's an Oscar

-nominated actor. So what do you do after that?

You play a superhero. That's what you do. And

I think he even has, like, royal blood. He is

that character. He is Black Panther. And he's

done action before in Serenity. If you see Serenity,

like, you can see, like, you just do a little

bit of twists and turns and he is the king of

Wakanda. That movie should just be made. It just

needs to be. I don't know, Shaquille O 'Neal

might be a better Black Panther. True. Sorry

I ruined your Panther party. The next one, this

is out there. Some people may not be aware of

it. You guys have heard of the comic The Runaways?

Vaguely, yeah. Not really sure what it's about.

Yeah, I've read a couple of graphic novels. I

thought they were... pretty good yeah the the

basic concept of the runways is they're kids

of super villains who try to become heroes i

just think that would be a great movie i don't

have more than the say than that i just think

it is a great concept i think it would fit in

with like a teen demographic and i also think

that would get in uh some uh younger ladies in

to see that because i think they have some great

younger girl characters in there Yeah, yeah,

it would be a completely different demographic,

like you mentioned. Something unlike anything

I'm doing currently. And then I'll finish it

up here, because I've been talking way too much.

I think this would be a great television series,

and that's the Inhumans. If you read the 2002

Marvel Nights graphic novel or story, it gets

into the Inhumans. And if those who don't know,

they're like, Inhumans are like original humans

who were experimented on by the Kree, and then...

Because of the target miss then they we get superpowers

basically and their leaders black bolt And I

just think there's like a great family dynamic.

It's almost like Shakespeare thinking like Game

of Thrones meets the Avengers In space, but I

just think there's cool things there, and I don't

know if it would work as a movie But as a TV

series, I think it could be kind of cool, but

that's it for me Chuck what were you thinking

for Marvel and what they could do? Well, I will

say firstly, I do agree with your Black Panther

suggestion. That was one that I had on my list,

and I know it's one that's been rumored for a

long time, but we really haven't gotten any confirmation

on that, you know, as we've gotten confirmation

on things like Ant -Man and even Doctor Strange

now, some of their Netflix shows with Luke Cage

and stuff like that, but really haven't got any

concrete information on Black Panther yet, and

that's someone, like you said, Dan, that... Think

would do great in a movie. I don't think it's

like TV show material. I don't think it's something

that you could stretch out like that I think

yeah, I agree. I think it's more of a movie like

you could tell it all in one story I'm not really

sure of like an actor to play him. I know I mentioned

Shaquille O 'Neal who You know, obviously he's

a great actor in his own right, but he's already

started in steel though. I mean that that rule

so Infamous can you really top steel? It's true.

Yeah I mean, you might be able to get someone

like Charles Barkley, you know, not the most

articulate guy in the world, but Michael Jordan.

I mean, after Space Jam, I mean, you know, just

naming random basketball stars. But John Stockton.

No, I guess I don't want to throw Idris Elba

in there because he's being in every movie ever

right now. I mean, I think he would do a great

job, but I feel like it deserves a more unique

actor. I'm not really familiar with the one.

that Dan had mentioned, but Black Panther definitely

needs to be made. There's a lot of things they

could do there that would tie into the rest of

the Marvel Universe. His country Wakanda has

the largest deposit on Earth of vibranium, and

vibranium is used for a number of different things.

It's used in Captain America Shield. There's

a lot of agencies like Hydra and AIM that are

after vibranium. I think it would... be a great

opportunity to tie a lot of things in with the

rest of the Marvel Universe. And there's a lot

of room for expansion there which is what they're

doing with all their movies. So I think that

makes a lot of sense to me. Secondly I will say

I think a Black Widow movie would be great. You

get a much bigger role from her in this Captain

America sequel in the Winter Soldier movie. And

I think they developed her relationship with

Cap very well in that movie. And you learn a

little bit about her even though they refrain

from revealing her past, you do learn a lot about

her character. You didn't really know much about

her in Iron Man 2 and Avengers. You just kinda

like, okay, she's a good guy, let's just trust

her, but you didn't really know anything. In

this Captain America sequel, they fleshed her

out a lot more. I think the fact that they hinted

at her complex backstory, I think they have a

lot of material there to work with. They could

make a really interesting movie out of that.

I think there's something that they can tie in

with that and that's that's Hawkeye I don't know

if necessarily Hawkeye could make his own movie

but I think maybe With the history in the past

that they hinted at in Avengers that he has with

Black Widow, you know I remember them talking

about a lot of missions that they did together

a lot of experiences that they shared I think

maybe he could appear in the Black Widow movie

and be a great supporting character and that

would be a great way to show off his backstory,

show off some of his awesome skills with the

bow and stuff like that. And then lastly, for

a movie anyway, I'm going to mention one of my

favorite characters, and that's the Silver Surfer.

And I don't think that he got a proper treatment

in the Fantastic Four sequel, Rise of the Silver

Surfer. There were a lot of good aspects about

that, about him in that movie, but I think there

was a lot that they kind of left on the table.

Especially the fact that his surfboard gives

him his power, which is totally wrong. I thought

that was incredibly stupid how they did that.

Yeah. Surprisingly one of the least stupid things

that that movie did. Yeah. And then, you know,

more notably his origin, which ties in with Galactus,

who, you know, they royally screwed up his...

representation in that Fantastic Four movie,

kind of portraying him as a giant cloud instead

of the being that he is. I think there's a lot

of room for backstory there and a lot of room

for character development with Silver Surfer

because he's one of those characters that's I

guess a lot like Captain America or Superman.

He's just that really noble character. His cause

is is just protecting the universe and doing

what's best for the universe. Protecting the

innocent, whoever it may be at the time. Doesn't

really have any ulterior motives most of the

time. He's just a good guy in general. And that's

of course after his curse with Galactus was lifted.

But I think there's a ton of backstory there.

And I know I've read a fair amount of Silver

Surfer comics in my day. One of his main villains

of course was Thanos. That would tie in very

well with our badass bracket yeah with the bracket

silver surfer's gone toe to toe with him many

times and there's been battles that were went

to silver surfer and ones that went to Thanos

so probably not something that they could uh

squeeze in here in time to finish to finish their

whole Thanos story but it's kind of a what might

have been thing because i think that it would

have tied in very nicely with with Thanos with

guardians stuff like that And it would have been

a great story, too, because where Silver Surfer

comes from, it's this planet called Xenla. It's

very Earth -like. He had a woman back home. He

had a love interest that he was forced to leave.

I just think there's a great story there just

waiting to be told. And then as far as some other

suggestions, I have a couple of suggestions for

the Marvel one -shot movies that they put at

the end of a blu -ray of the other Marvel movies.

And I think... A couple ideas for those. I think

a great one shot would be for Maria Hill. Maybe

we can get some insight into more of the political

side of SHIELD, how things worked, even though

things kind of got shaken up in this Captain

America sequel. Maybe how they deal with other

organizations around the world like the United

Nations, the World Security Council and different

things. I think there's some pretty cool tie

-ins that they could do there. maybe throw Nick

Fury in there even, since Maria Hill's kind of

his trusted, you know, extension of his self

almost, maybe you could say. And I think Colby

Smulders is doing a great job in that role, especially

in this Captain America sequel. We see a little

bit more of her and you see her doing a great

job too with it. So I think giving her one shot

would be great. I'd like to see a lot more of

Colby Smulders. Greg's a fan. Greg has a vote

for my suggestion. And then also, I would love

to see a one shot for Falcon. I really enjoyed

Falcon in this Captain America movie, and I would

love to see his backstory. They hinted at a little

bit. I would like to see like some of the experience

he had with that exo suit, like those wings.

What are some of the missions that he ran? Like,

how did he become so proficient with that? How

did he get that good with it? I think that would

be a really cool one -shot. And then another

one might be a little bit of a curveball, maybe

you guys wouldn't expect, but I think a lot of

opportunity for some hilarious, just some total

hilariousness. I think a great one -shot would

be for Volstagg, which is of Thor lore, if you

will, as one of the Warriors 3, one of Thor's

close friends. And you might remember from the

first Thor... and he was in both of them but

in the first story he was the guy that was like

always eating you know he's that big guy with

the big belly and the gigantic red beard and

I know like we all know from the comics he's

one of the more comical characters especially

in the Thor universe but he's got some great

comedic relief just his eating habits and his

attitude towards fighting and I think that would

be fantastic to have Volstagg have his own one

-shot movie I think there's a lot they could

do there with the comedy and even more. They

could have the Warriors Three in there, Volstag,

Hogan, and Fandral. You could throw Lady Sif

in there, even since she joined them on a lot

of adventures. And I think that's a really cool

aspect of the Thor story that they touched on

a little bit in the Thor movies, but kind of

overlooked. So I would love to see Volstag. He's

a great character. Greg, what do you think? I

would like to throw in... My vote for a character

for an actor to play Black Panther, I think he's

very much up and running because you see him

in pretty much every film and I think that's

Morgan Freeman. He fits that role, I think. If

you're not going to have him as a Black Panther,

at least have him as his father for like a little

bit of a... I thought you were going to say Tyler

Perry. Oh, God, no. Tyler Perry presents the

Black Panther. Oh, God. I would kill myself right

here. I'd like to agree with Chuck, like I said

before, even. I think Black Widow deserves her

own movie, and I think they set up a lot of great

stuff for her to have her own movie. And on top

of that, I think they could try Falcon Out. and

a lot of things. He could do a one shot. He could

be in the movie with Black Widow. You could have

Hawkeye. You could have Black Widow and you could

have Falcon. I think that would be a nice little

trio there and I think Black Widow has a lot

of respect for Falcon at this point so I thought

that would be kind of interesting. And kind of

going along with Dan with the whole Annihilation

wave, I think it would be kind of interesting

because they're already kind of setting it up

now with Guardians of the Galaxy. But I really

like not the super latest one, but the storylines

before of Nova, like right after the Annihilation

wave where it was Richard Ryder kind of by himself

and he was essentially the Nova corpse. I thought

the storylines in that were really great. I'm

not one for really reading the space adventure

ones. That's more a Chuck's bag with a suggestion

with Silver Surfer. It has to be. That sort of

thing is my bag, baby. But I think if they do

a storyline like that with Richard Ryder, I think

that would be really great. And I definitely

think they're setting it up. One way I think

they could really go, which I would think would

be interesting, because I like these type of

characters. I would really like to do some kind

of Thunderbolts type of movie. Have the villains

come in and have a little bit of a flip side

to the whole situation. Yeah. I like that idea.

Yeah, I think they need to set up a little bit

more. Kind of have at least some villains that

are established in these movies already. So it's

going to take some time with that one, I think.

And I think that it would be interesting if they

set something up with Vision. With Age of Ultron

coming up, you know, Vision can't be that far

away. You got the Scarlet Witch in there. And

I think it would be really interesting to see

the relationship between a human being and a

machine. So I think that would be interesting

if they start setting that up a little bit. And

staying a little bit more in this universe of...

Marvel actually owned. I think a beta ray bill

one shot. It wouldn't be him in his full He wouldn't

have the thing his hammer and and quite that

power ability yet But I think right before he

kind of meets up with Thor and everything I think

that would be a little bit of an interesting

thing to put in there And then I kind of went

out of the bounds of ones that Marvel actually

owns, and kind of going into the X -Men world

that I love so much. I think if the Jurassic,

I think it's called Jurassic World, Dan? Yeah.

The movie that's gonna be coming out with Chris

Pratt, who's Peter Quill in the, gonna be in

the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. If that does

well, I think Marvel could kind of go off and

do a Savage Land movie. Nice. You've got Shauna

the She -Devil, and you've got K -Zar. That would

be kind of interesting, and you can kind of introduce

X -Men characters into that, but I think that's

an interesting location that Marvel has yet to

delve into, or I think it's owned by Sony, correct?

Or no, it's Fox. Fox does X -Men. Yeah, they

own X -Men, so they own Star Wars. Yeah. And

then also in that vein, a character that I'd

like to see more of. Even though he does get

a lot of play, but I think we all really enjoy

the character of Magneto. And I really like how

Michael Fassbender plays that character. And

then if you have a little bit more J -Law in

there, I always appreciate that. And then kind

of going away from just the characters, one storyline

that I really love that I wish they would...

do so because it's so crazy and it's got so many

in the comics it has so many of these great little

elements to it and it kind of falls in line with

my love of alternate storylines and I always

recommend this book to Chuck every time we're

in a comic book store together still haven't

convinced him to buy it yet still working on

it but I would love to see an old man Logan it's

in the future he's kind of sheathed the claws

and He kind of begrudgingly has to set out on

yet another adventure and all this crazy shits

going on and there's all these little Neat Easter

eggs that they can have in that that I think

would be really great And I don't think it would

really mess up their Continuity in the movies

that much I think that would be really awesome,

and I really love that that comic. It's one of

my favorites Yeah, well with the X -Men comics

you really have no continuity to really worry

about because it's all kind of convoluted at

this point anyway, so. But yeah, so basically

what we're saying is Marvel listen to us. We

have a lot of ideas for you to do and you're

doing a good job so far, but there's always room

for improvement. Before we go, we like to end

each episode with a letter. Last week Chuck had

a letter for the Bad Drivers of America or what

were they for short? The HTA, Horrible Drivers

of America. We're still waiting to hear back

from them. They have not yet gave us a reply.

Maybe they just took their lesson and they'll

learn from it. Well, I hope that's the case for

these people that I'm writing a letter to, and

that is the infamous Internet trolls. You may

be asking why? Why write Internet trolls? They've

been around for so long. They just seem to be

growing and growing. Well, they kind of just

came to me. not too long ago, basically, when

there was a news story that broke about a school

that had a threat behind it. There was a school

that someone thought there was a gun. It was

just huge confusion. The school was evacuated.

Luckily, it was nothing and everything, you know,

it all worked out in the end. No one got hurt.

Everyone's safe. You know, a good news story,

a positive thing, because everyone's walking

away from it with no issues. So, I made the mistake

of going down to the internet comments. just

seeing the ridiculousness of people and just

how people could turn anything like a positive

news story in some sort of horrible situation

and like how it's people trying to spread some

sort of agenda and how everything is so there's

basically some sort of evil conspiracy behind

everything nowadays and it's just ridiculous

so that kind of just like I was like alright

I'm done so that inspired me to write this to

all those different internet trolls that just

can't get enough of their ridiculous bullshit

but anyways here it goes dear internet trolls

life is a precious gift a gift with nearly limitless

potential and endless opportunity what do you

choose to do with this gift you choose to be

a faceless coward who hides behind an anonymous

curtain one that pokes and prods from the comfort

of their own home reveling in your ability to

cause a stir Congratulations, you have accomplished

literally the easiest task known to mankind,

also the most forgettable. Sure, history is full

of the naysayers, the haters, the disparaging

souls who find solace in bringing down others.

The difference between your kind and the noble

society is no one remembers your name, no one

cares who you are, and no one will ever bother

to ask. You are a cynical whisperer of ignorance

full of hate and fear. Your facts, if any, are

short -lived and mute in scope. You are bullies.

You are cowards. You are the unwashed taint of

society, full of false bravado that dissipates

the instant real conflict near your direction.

So the question then becomes, what can we do

to eliminate these wretched beasts and their

bastion? Easily. Be the change of the world that

you want to see. While that may sound corny,

its truth is unyielding. Not only do you not

feed the trolls, We eliminate them. We take the

effort of combating them, the one I'm currently

wasting right now, and channel it into something

positive. Next time you receive a disparaging

tweet, flaming Facebook posts, or you're about

to enter the infamous message board flame war,

stop. Change direction. Channel that anger for

good. Instead of... Playing their game, create

your own. Use it as a reason to do a random act

of kindness, holding a door open for an elderly

woman, letting someone in during bumper to bumper

traffic, join a charity to help those less fortunate

than you. Although that troll won't feel your

course, you will know you won. You will know

you are the better person making the world a

tad bit better. Your cess will be full and distinct.

Theirs will be hollow and short -lived. When

no one is there to answer their anger, when their

kingdom is a barren wasteland, where only their

kind congregates, they will wither away and die.

Maybe then, they'll finally get the message.
