About this Episode

The hosts share their NFL fandom stories, discuss predictions for the 2015 season, and offer fantasy football strategy tips. They cover team prospects including the Cowboys, Colts, Steelers, and Packers, and break down what to watch for among rookie receivers like Odell Beckham Jr. and Mike Evans.

This is Jason David Frank and you're listening

to the Geek Cash Radio Network. You are now on

the inside of what I like to call the circle

of trust. We are all connected in a great circle

of life. You know something Bert? I think you

and I are going in circles. It feels like we're

going in circles. The circle is now complete.

When I left you, I was but the third. Now I am

the last. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard

about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with shapes.

Hi, this is Chuck. This is Greg. And this is

Dan, and we are Talking in Circles, brought to

you by the Geekcast, Radio the Network, the podcast

that is ready for some football. Yes, today we're

doing our Second annual NFL preview. So for those

geeks out there that can't stand sports, don't

worry We're gonna talk a little bit non sports

related stuff before we get into it So feel free

to skip the second half, but before we get to

the NFL talk, how things been going for you guys?

I don't think it's been okay. I'm in a particularly

good mood because I got to have a Delicious stromboli

tonight for dinner. Nice Thing was huge too.

That's what she said What kind of stromboli did

you go with? That's the kind of the traditional.

I'd, you know, sausage, sweet peppers, onions.

So homemade or is it ordered? It was at a restaurant.

It's kind of a really small place, sort of a

tavern place, but they make amazing strombolis.

It's always like the places you least expect.

You know what I mean? Like it's a dangerous game

to play because sometimes those places are great,

like chaps pit beef in Baltimore, which is like

this dive looking place next to a strip club

across from a adult video store. It's like this

place will not have legitimate food, but it's

delicious. Yeah. But then sometimes you get,

you know, food poisoning and hepatitis. So it's

a run you in. It's a trade off, you know? Yeah.

Yeah. You know, sometimes diarrhea for the night.

But sometimes you get hepatitis and a good meal

so it's uh, you know, yeah, you just have to

watch out where you're eating out from Very nice

Greg. Thank you. I figure that was my riff right

there. That escalated quickly How things going

with you? All right. Have you heard the word

of the lizard man? Not to my knowledge. Yeah,

I've been watching some weird stuff on YouTube

just I put in creepy facts. I think it was into

YouTube and the guy one Normal video. Well as

normal as you can get putting in creepy facts

about creepy things going on in the world then

I found another one about Apparently there's

people out there that believe that there is a

reptilian civilization Living below the earth's

surface. Yes, we meet on Tuesdays Oh, Tuesdays?

Yeah, Tuesdays. Damn it, I missed the meeting!

But yeah, apparently they think there's reptilians

under the earth. It was weird. It was supposedly

some guy that worked for the government and he

worked at this place. Those are always the guys

you trust. Yeah, and apparently he cannot be

found. That's always interesting. Even more credible.

Yeah, and he did questions and it was weird because...

It was like the text was written out and somebody

used one of the like voice voices from a text

reader on the computer. So it's very like Stephen

Hawking ish. Yeah. And it doesn't understand

some of the words like they said World War Two

and it just said WWII. Yeah, that's World War

Two. So to have that going on and apparently

the American government. has a treaty with these

reptilians who are actually... That's good. That's

good to know that we're at peace. Yeah, we're

at peace with them, I guess, from what I heard.

And yeah, we have for their technology, because

they've been here much longer than us. And apparently

they get... They get land underground for this

treaty, and they also get us. They get some people

from the surface world. This podcast? No, not

this podcast. I'd be honored if we were part

of a treaty. That'd be amazing. They've been

trying to hook up internet connection down below

Earth, but they don't have the technology to

hook that up to listen to us, unfortunately.

I can barely get internet connection in my bedroom,

so hope to God that they don't get it. Yeah,

and this guy worked under... New Mexico, I believe

So all those people in Dulce, let me know if

that's true And if I'm missing next week, you

know where I'm at I got I got taken out by the

government guys. So are they related to the crab

people? I'm not sure if they are related to the

Crips of the Atlanteans Good to know anymore.

Yeah. Okay, cool. So we've gotten in then all

that Lizard man, you know technology we lay in

the Sun to get warm Well, I I have not been up

with the lizard man, but I'm glad Greg you're

keeping us informed though. That's very important

Is there anything to do with Russia saying that

they're going to reveal all the secrets about

aliens if the U .S. doesn't or something. Oh,

I saw that. Where was that at? Was it on the

side of something like an Internet site? And

then you have like these weird you might also

be interested in because I think I saw that at

the side of some football something. I think

I saw it on Facebook, so I know it's gotta be

true. All those posts that you see are only true.

It's like, you know, share if. That's when you

know it's good. In Soviet Russia, aliens for

Q. Yeah, they threaten, like, if, you know, if

the US doesn't reveal its alien secrets, like,

we're going to expose them and everything, and

like, yeah, okay. They told them, like, no, Vladimir

Putin and those people are called African Americans.

They're not aliens. Like, is there going to be

a picture of, like, Vladimir Putin shirtless

on a UFO or something? Oh, I should go into Photoshop

right now and make that. That'd be amazing, yeah.

I'm sorry, guys. I can't do the rest of the podcast.

I'll send a new meme. You'll see, like, him and

he'll say, I think this might be Photoshopped.

I'd love to see him do, you know, Will Smith

line from Independence Day like welcome to earth,

but with the with the Russian accent Nailed it

Chuck Perfect. So yeah, my my week has been a

little eventful for different reasons though

So my wife just went back to work this week.

So That meant that Connor had to go to my son

had to go to daycare for the first time So I

had to drop him off at daycare, which was you

know, it's a it's a big thing You know you leaving

leaving leaving him at daycare and uh, it was

uh, it was hard, you know It's never a cool thing

to do. But what was kind of like weird about

it Is that You think it's gonna be like this

big thing like you get it built up in your head

that it's gonna be like This like momentous occasion

and you realize you get there you kind of drop

them off You like fill in a paper and like that's

about it, you know for them It's like all the

people at daycare is like yeah, okay, you can

go now and you're like what like I I thought

I guess. Okay. It's just, it's just, it's weird.

You thought there was going to be like the music

they play at the Chicago Bulls games. They're

going to like announce your kid. Exactly. Exactly.

Or, you know, sad music, like him crying and

me like reaching away at them having to pull

me out, you know, but now it's like, it's a bigger

adjustment for the parents and the kids, obviously.

So. In about a year or two, Dan's just going

to open the door, kick the baby carriage out

the door and go, there you go. Basically, that's

what I do now. No, it was I mean, it's it was

tough Of course, like I called it like lunch

time to see how he's doing. They're like, you

know, he's eaten lunch and taking it all in so

yeah Yeah, he's doing that. I mean, it's weird

that cast. He knows what it's about. He knows

it's about poop He blows it that's one topic

he can relate to I know he's like I get that

we were going the same by expert He said he's

a very good expert. He's really good at pooping

like that's he's amazing at it So yeah, so that

was the big thing that happened to me this week

But I didn't get to watch once because I've been

kind of busy with work and we're recording this

a little earlier than normal But I know Chuck

you did get to watch something and unfortunately

I wanted to talk about walking dead. We'll have

to hold that off till next week So what have

you actually been watching? I have actually been

watching a Old movie from the 80s, which apparently

is my favorite decade as of late Or always my

favorite decade. I don't know, but I watched

a stalone movie called over the top Speaking

of fighting for your son, you know fighting for

your son, but The uh, you know cussing your son

through arm wrestling because that's He's sounding

like you're raping the child while he is arm

wrestling another child. A lot escalated. You

know, it's just that simple maneuver where you

just reposition your hand and you can beat a

guy three times the size of you. When I turn

my head around, it's like I'm somebody else.

It's like I'm a machine. It's like a flick of

switch. Yes, still in plays a character named

Lincoln Hawk and which by the way Hawks Hawk

like that bird Because if you listen to how did

this get made they have an episode? Where they

watched over the top and they pointed out that

it changes every two seconds people either say

it Hawk or Hawks He's not the most enunciating

figure in Hollywood. So it's everybody else in

the film too But, well, I find it strange that

somehow this got past HR slash proofreading people

that their last name is Hawk and his Mike son

is his son's name is Mike. Mike. I'm like, really?

Like, really? That's where you're going. Whatever.

Hey, Mike Hawk. But. That's amazing. Anyway,

once you get done laughing at that, you find

out that, you know, he. Stallone kept the active

interest in his son like over the years and he

like wrote to him every week and stuff and you

find out eventually like why he never got those

letters and sort of why he left and everything

but he's trying to make up for lost time so he

kind of goes on this long road trip with his

son and his truck and everything and kind of

uh participates in these underground arm wrestling

tournaments and he hustles people and all this

other stuff and uh Eventually gets into the championship

tournament in Vegas somehow. And, uh, you know,

cause I don't know if there's like qualifying

for that or anything, apparently just go to Vegas

and be like, yeah, I'm going to be in this arm

wrestling tournament. So, but, uh, you know,

amid some well -timed family crises, we, we see

him, uh, kind of go over the top and make his

way through the tournament. That's how that got

the name. Yeah. You know, that's incredible.

It's just that one move that's he puts his hand

over the top of the other guy and just magically

wins. That's the key. Whether how many good montages

were there was there, you know, I was surprised

there wasn't there weren't any, you know, training

montages. And it's I mean, it's it's very much

a Stallone movie, but it's it's has a lot less

action than all of his other ones. But, you know,

obviously, there's a lot of the same elements

there. But I don't know. I mean, it's kind of.

You mean arm -wrestling doesn't have lots of

over -the -top action? It depends how you film

it. It's really in the cinematography. If HBO

did it, it would probably be epic. So you shoot

it from a worm's -eye view, and that's perfect,

right? Yeah, it would look like two giants. Because

you don't want to shoot it from over the top,

because that would just look weird. I'm sure

if HBO did it, it would look epic. It would I

Mean like the thing is like arm wrestling would

be what still not in the top ten worst sports

that ESPN has put on like right you have the

Scrabble championships and Other crazy things

they've done or like from or the dodgeball championships

on ESPN 8 to Ocho or actually when they had the

the rock -paper -scissors competition and it's

it's actually like i'll watch the video and it's

like pre -wingo and i forget who else Does the

commentary and it's amazing because they treat

it so seriously, but you can tell they're being

like they're they're think It's like the dumbest

thing ever they like talking about their form

and like it's like they're talking about how

they're getting tired because they've been doing

it for all day It's like you've been playing

a rock paper scissors. So that's like basically

it It's like all his forms kind of going down.

You can get it's hilarious. It's a good time

Oh, if I can find it, I might put it in the show.

No, it's a bold move cotton. Let's see if it

pays off But yeah, I don't know. I mean, it's

it's kind of a heartwarming story and in a way

over the top, you know, an arm smashing fist

bumping kind of way. But no, I mean, I thought

it was the relationship of the sun. It's not

incredibly strong by any means, like the arc

that they go through over the movie. But, you

know, it's it's kind of cool. I enjoy still on

movies just for the just for the fun of them,

basically. And You know, like somebody's going

to get punched through a glass window or something

and it's, you know, you're just kind of waiting

for that moment. So I kind of wonder who's put

people through glass more, him or Patrick Swayze.

It's a good question. It's funny you say that

because actually the guy that he puts through

the glass door in this was a guy from Roadhouse

that Swayze beat the crap out of. So this guy's

claim to fame is that he got beat up by both

Sylvester Stallone and Patrick Swayze. Nice trapped

under the bear No, no, not that guy. He's the

guy with the curly hair. That was he was the

bouncer at the funk. He's a former wrestler,

right? I Don't know I'm being serious like that

the guy that was like their bouncer before he

gets there in red house Yeah, like Swayze. Yeah.

Yeah, it's very fun That's in the closet with

an underage girl too in that movie no No, that

isn't him. That's a different movie Greg. That's

a different It's like one of the guys is in the

back room. He's like, oh he's on my break. Yeah,

and he's not stay on it He becomes like the guy

that they fire and then he becomes like the leader

of the other guys because Yeah, terry funk he

uh, he was he wasn't really in like he did a

lot of the alternative uh leagues he was an ecw

for a while exactly He was wwe as chainsaw or

chainsaw charlie, uh, we would come out exactly

you come out in the ring with a chainsaw and

like a Like a one of those mask overs had that

looked like uh, like neon Like stockings and

partner with Mick Foley. Yeah, he's kind of he's

notorious for like just being in crazy matches

and stuff like that He did a lot in Japan. So

But yeah, so rock on the wrestling corner, but

yeah unexpected in a Podcast about football speaking

of wrestling. Did you happen to? See any of the

news about the Stephen Amell match with stardust.

I did I watched the highlights ice. Yeah He did

pretty good. He he looked pretty good in the

ring for a guy who's not a professional wrestler.

Yeah Yeah, pretty cool. I guess uh, you know

his athleticism and parkour kind of fade off

Yeah, he is acting skills He was probably the

best actor They gave him the most lines in the

least amount of moves No, he had like a like

a move where he jumped off the top rope onto

the floor and stuff So, uh, then he kind of half

-assed like threw a guy back in the ring and

then he got pinned Yeah, steven amel's team won.

So that's you know, that's all that mattered

team arrow Yeah, john in no help from john diggle

at all. So I don't know what that was about It's

interesting though. The that guy in neville that

he was paired with like his finishing move He

does this like crazy flip off the top rope. They

call it the red arrow Yeah, so that was pretty

cool. Yeah, that guy looks like a real -life

hobbit, but yeah, I was like I first saw that

guy I was like that guy is huge like he's really

muscular and then he stood next to Stephen Amell

and he's like four foot 11 He's an amazing athlete,

but he's really tiny. It's like yeah, it's like

a little springboard Yeah, it shows how long

I've how far away I've Gotten from wrestling

because I had no idea that apparently a triple

H is like the commissioner now or something Yeah,

well like he married Stephanie McMahon. So they're

like like the heir apparent to Vince McMahon.

So Yeah, yeah, no, you stepped away for a long

time, but yet still the Undertaker still wrestling.

So there you go How old is he? He's got to be

55 Someone today told me that he's 50 He's he

looks at to he looks I mean like the dudes in

good shape. It's gonna need an undertaker soon

Yeah, it's when that dead man becomes literal

it's not as fun so But all right anything else

before we take a quick break All right, so oddly

enough the first sport we talked about is wrestling

But shortly we'll be getting into our predictions

for the 2015 NFL Season as well as some thoughts

on fantasy and overall thoughts on why we enjoy

football But before we get to that, I have these

quick messages, so we'll see in a bit. So let's

love to have you. Alright and welcome back and

before we get into kind of a nitty -gritty of

the NFL it's a good idea to kind of have an idea

of where we're coming from with all this and

where our fandom is at with sports because we

got talking about it we talked about it occasionally

but not all the time so who we like where our

allegiance allegiance is lie and all that great

stuff so Chuck Chuck I'll start with you because

you know, I know you're rabbit Rabbit Dolphins

fan, but you know, we're all coming from the

Scranton area. So what kind of got you into watching

football and specifically being a Miami Dolphins

fan living in North East PA? Well, surprisingly,

there's actually a lot of Dolphins fans in Pennsylvania

for a number of reasons. And the most common,

I think it's because Dan Marino is from Pittsburgh.

He grew up there. He played at Pitt. Also, I

know around our area, North East PA Tim Ruddy

was from a small town around here called Dunmore.

He was the center for the Dolphins for a lot

of years. Was it OJ McDuffie? The receiver was

a big Penn State guy. So there's a lot of, you

know, Penn State fans that kind of went on to

follow him and stuff. But the reason I like the

Dolphins is actually because of my dad. And he

has a really cool story, which it's much more

interesting than mine because I just copied his

team. But I did the same thing. My dad, when

he was a kid, him and my uncle, his brother,

they were young and it was the Super Bowl of

1972 season. And of course, that was the undefeated

season of the Miami Dolphins. And my dad didn't

really know that at the time, neither of them

were into football. And it was the Super Bowl

and they were young. And my dad, my uncle said,

well, let's let's each pick a team and we'll.

you know, bet on the game kind of just for fun.

So my dad chose the Dolphins, my uncle picked

the Redskins, and the Dolphins ended up winning

to win their perfect season. And both of them

kind of just stuck with those teams after that.

And I thought that was really interesting. And

I just grew up, you know, kind of following my

dad's footsteps, like in the Dolphins and everything.

And I have not seen them make it to a Super Bowl

in my lifetime. So very disappointing. And I'm

Really looking forward to the day when I get

to enjoy that finally Greg, I know you're you're

probably gone in the football the latest out

of all of us and I think yours but your story

is quite kind of interesting and You're oddly

a Vikings fan and we kind of talked about that

last year But like how exactly did you end up

being coming a fan of the Vikings? Well, when

I was younger, I only liked football, kind of

like wrestling. I only liked wrestling to fit

in. I only liked football to kind of fit in.

My next door neighbor was a big Miami Dolphins

fan. And so I went in with him with the Dolphins

to kind of get along and be cool with everybody,

I guess. But as time went on, I really didn't

have an interest in it. My family isn't a huge

sports family. My dad doesn't. particularly care

for many sports. He watches NASCAR and he'll

watch Penn State because he was a Penn State

alumni. But that's pretty much it. So I finally

met up with you guys and we started playing fantasy

and I got really into it through that. And so

the Vikings I picked up because my first year

playing fantasy football, I had the rookie running

back from the Vikings, Adrian Peterson, and he

Just did a freaking phenomenal job for me on

my fantasy football team and he seemed like a

nice guy Uh, he seemed very level -headed. Um,

my judgment of people is apparently terrible.

Um, because I think everyone thought that honestly

though. I think you're you're not alone Yeah,

if you like you ask people like who people admire

the most you're certainly be on that list because

you know, he was Up to last year the model citizen,

you know, even the way he played he wasn't like

a ragadocious type of dude He just kind of his

job and I think he's still basically a good guy

though, like That's that's all people know about

him though what happened. So it's you know, it's

kind of hard to judge the guy that I do think

he's legitimately trying to make amends and it

does seem like at first It seemed like he didn't

see what was wrong with it But at least recently

what I've been hearing from him talk about this

seemed like he kind of realized yeah What he

did was definitely not a cool thing to do and

that's how he was raised, you know and everyone

in his family Yeah, and I get that but I think

at a point you got to realize like There's there's

there is a limit that even you as a human need

to recognize then I think he's getting to that

point now and maybe for ammo is just a Like you

said a cultural background thing, but if we can

kind of get over Michael Vick I think what Michael

Vick did was far worse. I would say I don't know

It's hard to compare but people screw up and

I don't think we should just give them like,

you know that scarlet letter so they're forever

just a bad person now so as long as they make

amends and don't keep screwing up like I don't

know a Randy Moss or something like that Yeah,

I mean, yeah, we all like yeah, we all make a

mistake and if you're making an honest effort

to change yourself and correct it I think you

deserve to be forgiven and basically have a clean

slate Anyways, yeah, so but I also liked Jared

Allen and he also left the team So I really don't

have anybody on the team. They haven't really

been good. So Not sure why I'm still with them,

but I figure Made my choice. I kind of stick

with I guess so I'm a Vikings fan Hey, I think

Teddy Bridgewater is looking good Charles Johnson

looks like you might be able to target this year.

So Adrian Peterson's actually looking you know,

like Adrian Peterson So I don't I'm not saying

there'll be a playoff team this year But I think

there'll be much improved and give me a year

or two away. Don't they Percy Harvin too? No,

they don't know they lost Percy Harvin like file

back Oh, Cordell Patterson is what I'm thinking.

Yeah, Cordell Patterson, yeah. I think he still

has potential of being good. Like, he has, like,

the raw talent. His technique is a little off.

He doesn't... He reminds me of, like, a... It's

a weird comparison, but there's a guy, Ramsey

Bardin, who was on the Giants, who had the size,

his speed, and everything, but he could never

put it together. I think Cordell Patterson has,

like, the tangibles, but if it's, like, if he

can just kind of figure it all out, he might

actually be a good weapon, especially if he's

a good quarterback to throw in the ball, so...

Come on Bridgewater Yeah, yeah, but hey I'm just

saying right now like most I've been doing a

lot of mock trash for fantasy football and I've

been picking him up in nearly every one because

I feel like He's got he's got potential to explode.

So this is my you know, not not as my main quarterback

But you know as a stash and hold on to he's been

someone I've been going to so so speaking of

this year, I mean Last year we kind of gave out

gave out predictions and what we thought that

you would go so far who we thought would do well

too badly Well, how did you how did you come

to you like your team? Oh, yeah, I'm skipping

myself. Yeah. Yeah, so I am I know I am myself

a Giants fan and Similar to Chuck. My dad was

a Giants fan He's from New York not New York

City, but he lived in the state of New York and

he likes the Giants So it I kind of became a

Giants fan too and oddly like the first year.

I like them growing up I was I didn't pay attention

a little bit, but I think the first year I really

got into them was like when I was in the year

2000 eighth or ninth grade or so, but uh It's

when we first had like a computer with a legit

internet connection. So I was following them

all along. And it's also when they changed their

logo to the better NY logo from that. Just as

giants, they just have the NY, which I think

is so much better. And it's also the year they

ended up going to the super bowl. I forget what

happened that super bowl, but the NFC championship

game was amazing to watch because they, uh, You

cream the Vikings 41 to nothing like that's that

was a fun game at least as a Giants fans at witness

but that was a cool team and they are they are

a frustrating team because This actually might

be a good thing to talk about just but some of

the worst losses that we've ever had and some

of them like come to mind were I think it was

a 2003 Playoffs when they were playing the 49ers

and they were they were actually doing so well

that year they They came in as a wild card. I

believe beat the Buccaneers and then they were

playing the 49ers I forget exactly but their

offense was great. They were crushing the 49ers

They were destroying them and then there's this

play where the 49ers started coming back and

Tara Owens when that's when he was still on the

49ers does something stupid and then Michael

Strahan I can't believe this but he goes out

and like yells at Owens and points to the scoreboard

And like from then on, it was just a dumb world

spiral. And 49ers had one of the biggest comebacks

ever. But then to make matters worse, the Giants

have the opportunity to win the game. They drive

to the field. They're going to go for the game

winning field goal. Botch snap. And then the

holder gets it. He's running and then he chucks

it. And then the guy he's chucking it to. Gets

pulled down to defensive pass interference, which

was great because you get to kick it again even

closer But that gets kicked off because it was

a lineman And so like he wasn't allowed to be

downfield, but he was an eligible receiver So

they made the call wrong and it was just this

huge gigantic thing that ended up it was awful

It was just like it was bad calls a bad play.

It was it was hard to witness I don't know if

you guys have any games that come to mind we

think of as being a sports fan or being a that

just burning your brain as Things are hard to

get over writing. Oh Yes, that's that's uh, oh

man, uh, that was a tough game, huh? Yeah Yeah,

was it a championship game against the saints

if i'm not mistaken. Yeah, I believe so They

they were doing pretty good brett farve though.

Uh, I can't Very old. I think it was his last

year in I think I think he had one more year

after that because I think he came back thinking

they came so close that he was gonna come back

I could be wrong and he just oh my god he he

was battered up he was like a He was like caught

behind enemy lines and just got beat to death

or something. He was just He was an old man.

He shouldn't have been on the field That game

yeah That was the the famous game where it was

bounty gate came out of that right because that's

after there is Supposedly a bounty on Brett farve

and that's when Peyton got suspended for the

year So they had Brett farve through that interception

like right when they were going for the game

winning drive It was like an awful throw to yeah,

that's that was a tough game I was rooting for

the Vikings to because I wanted to see to see

them Go on mostly because I want to see Adrian

Peters and get a ring then I know you're a Vikings

fan. So Chuck anything come to your mind Yeah,

I think some of my worst losses were the Jets.

They call it the Midnight Miracle. Oh, I remember

that game It was a Monday night football game

and I was young at the time I was a teenager

and I remember my dad's and I stayed up and watched

it at halftime The Dolphins are up by like 30

points. I mean we were crushing them That was

in some of my favorite times when they, you know,

they had like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and

they had a really good defense. And I'm like,

oh, this is awesome. You know, they got a good

defense. They, they won't let them come back

or anything. And, uh, you know, the Jets is a

team that I pretty much hate the most other than

except for New England, but. Yeah. Yeah. Buffalo.

You're like, yeah, they haven't really done much.

Yeah. So the second half starts and the Jets

end up coming back and. Ended up winning the

game. It was close. It was like 41 38 or something

and I remember being so ticked off and I just

I don't think I spoke for like a week. It was

terrible. But and then some of the other playoff

losses they had in the 90s were tough to watch

like Marinos like last two years. I think they

got crushed by the Broncos and then the following

year they got crushed by the Jaguars. Yes, the

Jaguars were good at one time. Yeah, when Tom

Coughlin was coaching them. Yeah, when you know,

they'd mark Brunel as a quarterback and Jimmy

Smith so Fred Taylor They were yeah for any young

whippersnappers out there that yes, the Jacksonville

Jaguars were good at one time Houston Texans

never but So speaking of like another comeback

game that comes to my mind was the Miracle in

Maryland's 2 and it was a game I didn't even

watch it was because it was not playing in the

market I was in there was a Giants and Eagles

same situation Giants are crushing them and it

was a game the Giants were going in as like the

underdog and they're like killing them like I

was watching it on like NFL .com with the lines

going across it like watching Twitter and people

being like wow the Giants look amazing they look

great slowly but surely they start coming back

and it's near the end of the game it's like they

got I don't know three seconds left the Giants

are punting they have a rookie punter All he

needs to do is punt the ball out of bounds, go

to overtime. You have one jump. I'm sitting at

my computer. I'm just like, okay, waiting for

it to go. And next thing I see is this line start

going and moving. I'm like, wait, what just happened?

And runs into kickoff for a touchdown. I'm like,

what just happened? What just happened? And it

was final score on the board. I'm like... Like

what just happened? I was freaking out. Let's

just say because it's I hate the Eagles more

than anything Like I despise the Eagles even

more than the Cowboys more than Redskins I just

I can't stand them every so often I always see

you know because I'm from BPA We know a lot of

Eagles fans post the that video There's like

a video that made the show how how great the

Eagles were and what happened there, so yeah,

unfortunately I think the Eagles Did like win

the division that year, but of course because

their Eagles didn't really do anything in the

playoffs because yeah They're not really good

At actually closing the deal. They don't they

don't specialize in that apparently apparently

Eagles have small Throats because they choke

a lot. So yes, exactly or if you like to have

a mcnav throw up in the middle of the Super Bowl

Yeah, that's pretty much the The epitome of choking

right there. He's literally throwing up in the

field. Yeah. But looking at this year a little

bit, are there any teams, because I mean, there's

some obvious choices, but anything like you're

looking forward to this year, anything you're,

any predictions you see happening, any teams

you feel like are legit 100 % shot going to make

the Super Bowl or do really well? One thing in

particular I'm kind of looking forward to, and

it's not necessarily Relating to one team, but

I'm really looking forward to Looking at the

rookie wide receiver class from last year is

they really did amazing last year There was like

I think six guys That came in as rookie receivers,

and they just they really did well They got like

you know over a thousand yards like of course

you have Beckham from the Giants Landry the Dolphins

did really well. There's a couple of their big

names Benjamin from Carolina and Mike Evans from

Tampa Bay. Yeah, he's out for the year. And then

there's a couple other guys too, but I'm kind

of interested in seeing those guys rise up even

more. I think they're like the next elite class

of receivers. And it's weird that receivers come

into the league and they seem like... It seemed

like some of them adjust so easily to the NFL

where like, you know, other positions it's so

much harder, like quarterback and some of the

other ones where there's like a huge, like a,

like a three year learning curve or something,

you know, before they start getting good. So.

Yeah, I do feel like the learning curve from

pro to from college to pro was so short now compared

to years ago. Like never saw like NFL, like rookie

right receiver specifically do well. I mean,

Randy Moss was like the one exception that was

usually. getting 500 yards was like an improvement,

but you're seeing a lot of people come out and

like dominate because a lot of pro style offenses

in the colleges nowadays, even like quarterbacks,

I think we're seeing a lot of quarterbacks succeed.

Andrew Locke was pretty good his first year.

You know, RG3 was his first year. Unfortunately

hasn't done anything since then, but you do get,

you know, some of those people that do come in.

coming strongly. You always see it with running

backs. Like you would always be like Adrian Peterson

or using like Marshall Falk his rookie year.

There's been a lot of running backs who tend

to do pretty well, but it's going into quarterback

or receivers now. Some defensive players here

and there, but it's interesting how much the

transition between college and pro seems to be

closing as time goes on. So I'm looking forward

to Odell Beckham. this year as a Giants fan,

but I am super worried. Like I just, I'm just

waiting for something bad to happen. Like every

time I hear there's a major injury with a wire

receiver, I'm like, it's going to be able to

help back them. It's going to be able to, I just,

I just, it's like, doesn't feel right because

the Giants never have a wire receiver threat

like that. They have like an Imani tumor who

is a solid wire receiver, 70 catches, a thousand

yards every year. He's a good target, but he's

never like... the best wire receiver or that

type of weapon. So I'm just waiting for him to

either stink this year and he's on the cover

of Madden, which just makes me worried even more

because of the Madden curse. So I'm just I'm

just waiting for like there to be just gigantic

reality check. And it's like, oh, he's actually

bad. Dan believes in curses and lizard men, people.

Do I do believe in this that's that that is actually

we can get to the predictions later But do you

guys have any like thing like that? Like I know

some people, you know, they were the same Jersey

every day They sit the same spot or anything

you do if you're watching a game like any traditions

like that that you try to Do to help your team

win quote -unquote? I'm not football but when

I used to watch NASCAR a lot I used to sit cross

-legged or the rate racist term I guess any more

of Indian style And I used to have my one foot.

I used to keep moving it back and forth, back

and forth, back and forth, back and forth until

the race ended. And it was kind of my encouragement

from my driver at that time to go up through

the pack and kind of give him momentum or something.

It was really weird. And my legs were fricking

beat to hell by the time the race was over. Who

was your driver back then? Back in the day, it

was Ernie Irvin. Nice. I have no idea who that

is, but he's got a cool name. Yeah. He was, uh,

he got in a wreck partway through one year when

he was starting to do really good for, uh, 2018

Texaco. And he got in a wreck and one of the

racetracks and he pretty much became blind in

one eye for the most part from that wreck. Yeah.

So it ended his career pretty quickly. Chuck,

anything for you? I like to pretty much, I sit

in the same chair, like kind of our. recliner

I don't necessarily wear the same thing every

time I do like to wear my jerseys but I just

remember being like very nervous in every game

like just like on every play just like all right

just do something good just get like four yards

at least like just don't get sacked like yeah

but I do I'm very active like when I'm watching

games and stuff like I'm You know, I'm yelling

I'm screaming if they throw an interception I'm

like throwing pillows across the roof and like,

you know, don't stand near me if we're like watching

football Good to know good to know I don't have

anything like that but I one thing I will do

though is like see if I'm watching a game and

for every reason say I started late and I turn

it on and then something bad happens, I immediately

stop watching. I'm like, nope, I caused that

to happen. So I'll check back later. If I'm watching

and they're doing well and I stop watching, they

start doing badly. Make sure to keep watching

as if I'm somehow affecting them. So that's the

only thing I tend to do. I actually don't have

a giant jersey, but I do have some shirt, like

a hat I tend to wear on game day. But that's

about it. I'm the same way. I realize at times

I'm like I get so worked up about about this

like I don't even enjoy it like it's like it's

so stressful that Depending on the game. I'm

like it's it's almost prefer to watch other teams

play that I'm not that invested in because I'm

not I don't care about it as much but if it's

like a game I care about it's like you get so

worked up about it. It's like this is this is

more threshold than my job You feel like you

just like went through some you feel like you're

like the president going through some nuclear

talks or something. You just feel so stressed

out afterwards. This is supposed to be fun. What

the hell? And if they lose, I just don't watch

sports for the entire week. I just stay away

from everything. It's like I don't even watch

anything. I don't want to hear any news anchors

say anything bad about my team. I get pissed

off at them. You're an athlete. You don't know

what you're talking about. Even though I probably

did the same thing while I was watching it, but

that's fine. I can say that, and you can't. You're

not allowed to. Actually, I did have another

question. Are you guys at all excited about the

fact that there are some major rule changes this

year? I guess one that comes to my mind is that

seems to be the biggest drastic change is the

extra point that they changed now. It's further

back. Do you think that's going to have any impact

on the actual gameplay, or do you think it's

just going to be basically the same time? How

far back are they taking it? It's the it will

be the equivalent of a 33 yard field goal now,

I think I Don't think it's gonna affect it that

much. Oh, and it will see more two -point conversions

at all No, I think you're gonna see less of those

So they moved it back about 14 yards approximately,

but I think it's gonna affect that a little bit

I definitely think it's a good idea because I

think extra points in the past have just been

like pretty much a sure thing And I think the

statistic, it's like 90. That's really high.

Like it's like 99 .9%. It's ridiculous. Yeah,

it's really high. Like that they make it, you

know, rarely ever does it get, you know, missed

or blocked or anything. So I think it's a good

idea backing it up. I think the the idea is for

sometimes like, you know, later in games, they

kind of want to entice teams to go for two points

a little more to make it more exciting and stuff.

Because if you do two points, you're still only

at the two yard line. Right. You might see a

little bit more, but I don't know. Think it's

a good idea. I'm curious to see what kind of

situations that will present like, you know late

in games and stuff I'm worried about it though.

Just cuz I'm like, I'm just I know my team's

gonna be the one that is hurt by it It's just

it's gonna happen. It'll be like, you know a

game tying thing Okay, here comes the extra point

and we miss it because they've been more miss

I think there's already been like three or four

misses and preseason already there have been

like what, 40 % of the time, or I forget the

exact percentage. There have been people going

for two more, but it's also pre -season, so it's

hard to really tell if that'll actually happen.

But if it does lead to more two -point conversions,

it could be a lot of weird scoring, you know,

a lot of like 16 to 13s and 25s, these weird

numbers. Might be a good time to jump into that

33 pool in your office, you know? Exactly, exactly.

Might have a good shot this year. Might have

to change the number to something else. If you

guys had to put your money down on what teams

you think will be, you know, championship teams

or Super Bowl teams, anything that comes to mind,

anyone you're favoring besides, you know, the

Vikings and the Dolphins, obviously. I'm not

favoring the Vikings. No, you're not going to

put money down? No. Who do you think has a good

shot of going this year? Seahawks have been really

I know you guys don't want to hear that but the

Seahawks are have been really good the past Few

years as always and they have Jimmy Graham now.

So that's always yeah, that's that's huge for

them And I haven't been doing much research or

anything and I haven't been watching many preseason

games So I'm I'm still kind of clueless on what's

going on for this season Chuck any idea like

anyone you think if you had to put money down

that you would go with I think in the NFC, it's

going to come down to the Seahawks and the Packers

once again. And I know, I realize that, you know,

Jordy Nelson towards ECL, he's out for the year

now, and that's a huge loss for Green Bay. But,

you know, they still have a lot of other weapons.

And Aaron Rodgers was the best quarterback last

year in the league. I mean, I think he had five

interceptions all year. Like, that's ridiculous.

There's quarterbacks that had that many in one

game. Like you like me. Yeah. But I think, you

know, Seattle looks really good. Like you mentioned,

Jimmy Graham and stuff. But I think it's going

to come down to it again. I think Aaron Rodgers

is going to get the best of it this time. So

at least at least that's for the NFC. The AFC,

though, I think is a lot more a lot more complex.

I'm really not sure what's going on there yet.

Yeah, it's it's a it's hard to tell especially

with the Patriots and Tom Brady possibly being

suspended for games. I feel like it's a Know

what's gonna happen with that or not? Yeah, I

mean Aaron Rodgers is ridiculous. We could be

his wide receivers and he still probably get

11 wins The dude is like insane as long as he

doesn't get hurt I mean, that's hard to think

injuries are hard to hardest thing predict but

I said this last year that the Seahawks would

take a step back but then they went to the Super

Poles and you know, we're one play away from

winning at all, but The thing that worries me

about the Seahawks this year is that I feel like

they're gonna try to change who they are a little

bit based upon the personality picked up. You

know, they traded Max Unger, their, you know,

their center, their best offensive lineman, I

would say, last year to get Jimmy Graham. That

gives them, you know, their best offensive option,

receiver -wise, clearly, but... Max Unger had

a huge impact on them last year when he was playing

Marshall Lynch had like almost a yard per yard

better per carry average With him there so in

you know, they will line being weaker and they're

very much a defensive team. So if you Can't run

the ball as well, you know, are you gonna expose

Russell Wilson? Is he gonna be as good without

a solid run game? If that is perhaps the case,

you can't do the read option So that that worry

me worries me a little bit like if I wonder how

well Jimmy Graham's gonna fit into that system

They say he's gonna block more but he's not the

greatest blocker in the world That makes me think

that maybe they uh, they struggle a little bit

I still think they make the playoffs but I don't

I don't see them as one of I see them taking

a little bit of a step back maybe Maybe making

it to the championship game. I'm not sure but

uh, I think I mean their division is pretty crummy

so I still think they'll probably at least win

10 games so that the but the team i'm actually

Last year what my prediction was, uh, I picked

the eagles to go to the summer ball I was happy

to be wrong. Uh, i'm not gonna say they're gonna

go this year I do think the eagles are gonna

be quite good I was watching their preseason

game with the ravens and they were looked they

looked phenomenal like that Sam Bradford looks

like He actually deserved to be picked number

one But the team I think actually as a shot I'm

going this year was a team that was one bad play

away from beating the Green Bay Packers and that's

the Dallas Cowboys They were also one bad play

away from losing to the Detroit Lions, so who

knows? But they also went into Seattle last year

and dominated Seattle. They have the offensive

line that can stand up to their defense. You

know, they got the best, one of the best wide

receivers in the game. Tomi Romo, I feel, it

can be a legit quarterback. They do lose to Marco

Murray, but I wonder if, you know, Joseph Randall's

there, so is... He's okay, so I don't think they're

gonna be as dominant in the run game and their

defense is was okay last year But they're also

getting Greg Hardy who's a horrible human being

but a good defensive player and also Sean Lee's

coming back so I think that I think the Cowboys

are looking good to actually, you know, go to

the Super Bowl. And again, if I'm wrong, that

I'll be super happy about it. I will not complain

whatsoever. With the AFC last year, I picked

the Colts ago and not to be like Chris Perman,

who would pick the 49ers and the Bills every

year. But I do think the Colts have a good chance

of repeating. Andrew Luck is one of the best

quarterbacks in the game right now. Great offensive

weapons. He's getting Andre Johnson and Frank

Gore. So veteran players. Yeah, they may not

be. as good as they once were, but I think they're

good pieces to have. Their defense is pretty

bad. That's the one thing, but I think the one

thing they have going for them is that they play

in probably what is the worst division in football.

They're almost guaranteed a home playoff game.

They're almost guaranteed a first round bye.

I mean, if they don't sweep that division, I'd

be surprised. I agree with you, Chuck, that AFC

is a little harder. to figure out. So because

of that, I think I'd go with a team that is the

easiest to figure out and at least in the best

position to at least get a playoff spot. So I'll

go with them. I don't think I don't feel necessarily

great about it, like I said, because their defense

is so suspect, but if they can get home field

advantage. You know, I think Andrew Luck can

pretty much go toe -to -toe with anyone in that

division or in the conference. So another team

that I feel might do really good this year too

is the Steelers, mainly because when you have,

you know, a good quarterback like Ross with Berger,

great running back like Le 'Veon Bell and a great

wide receiver like Antonio Brown, you have that

kind of combination. I think you're a threat

to do something. If their defense can just be

a little bit better, they could do, I think,

make some waves this year. Yeah, I'm kind of

along the same lines as you. I agree that, you

know, like we mentioned, the AFC is a little

bit harder to figure out. But, you know, obviously,

as much as I hate to admit it, New England still

has a good chance. They have all their pieces

back and pretty much not too many major losses

for them. You have you have the Colts, like you

mentioned, you know, Andrew Luck is a top five

quarterback. Defense definitely suspect they

they got smoked in the championship game. No

regardless. Oh, you mean the balls you mean they

were deflated regardless of the That doesn't

make up for 38 points of no no me Yeah, see what

you want about the balls, but you know, I think

the Colts balls are kind of more deflated Play

with your balls, honey Share with your friends

I think, I do think, you know, you mentioned

the Steelers. I kind of think the Steelers are

going to take a little bit of a step back this

year. Oh, really? Because they lost a ton of

key components on defense that basically the

biggest one, in my opinion, is the long time

cog that they had there. Their defensive coordinator,

Dick LeBeau, he'd left. He was one of the best

defensive coordinators for a long time. And so

he's gone. You have Paul O'Malley who's gone

now. I almost think Paul Moll being gone. That

might be a benefit because I felt like the last

couple years he was He would like he shouldn't

have been on the field I mean he had a good play

in here and there but I felt like he was Kind

of uh, he was well on his way out. So I maybe

I mean he had great instincts. That's for sure

Yeah, I mean, he's a he's a Hall of Famer for

sure. But yeah, you know, and then they also

lost uh, Brett Kiesel and uh worlds their other

starting linebacker and Believe there was another

guy too I can't remember who it was, but they

lost four starters on defense. Oh, Ike Taylor,

other corner, retired. So they had four starters

on defense plus their defensive coordinator.

Those are five very difficult pieces to replace.

I think they're still going to be a good defense

because it's just the sort of the program that

they've installed there. I think they're still

going to be decent, but I think it's going to

be hard to cover up. I still think they're going

to probably win that division because Cleveland

is still Cleveland. I don't see them making up

much ground this year. Luke McCown's not going

to set the world on fire. What's the chances

you see of Manziel starting? What game of the

year do you think he comes in? I don't know.

Yeah, probably around maybe like week five or

something like that, somewhere in that area.

You know they they claim that he's kind of getting

back on the right track He's not making the money

signs anymore of those fingers. It's not being

a douche. But you know, I see Yeah, I think they

are I would say the Bengals have it have a shot,

you know if uh They do but they really haven't

shown anything in this preseason. They haven't

even shown a flash like they're kind of uh You

know, yeah fumbling through their games from

what i've heard but uh Usually, you want to show

at least some flashes here in the early preseason.

Yeah, the Giants have looked awful this preseason.

I think Eli Manning has completed like four walls.

I do think the Broncos, the Broncos are still

a contender. I have to have Peyton Manning back

there, but I think they're going to take a slight

step back. I don't think, you know, they're not

the lock that I thought they were the last couple

of years. I still think they'll edge out their

division over the Chiefs, because I think the

Chiefs are going to be very improved this year.

But I don't see the Broncos getting to the Super

Bowl. They lost a lot of offensive linemen. They

have a different coach, new kind of system this

year. They did pick up Mathis, though. They did.

They kind of solidified that line. So I think

they're still going to be OK winning the division,

making the playoffs and everything. I'm actually,

I'm gonna go out and make a bold prediction.

Oh, bold predictions are always good. As crazy

as it might sound, I think this is the year that

Dolphins will overtake the Patriots and win the

Division. Oof, oof, oof, oof, oof. I do, and

I think the Dolphins are gonna go get into the

playoffs, obviously, you win the Division, you're

in, but I don't feel comfortable enough. Having

them go to the Super Bowl. I feel like that would

be a little too much my emotions. That's me I

don't want to get greedy, you know, but um, but

I do think they're gonna make it pretty far in

the playoffs and I'm I'm kind of scared to do

it But I think I'm gonna pick the Colts to face

the Packers in the Super Bowl Like you said Dan

the defense don't scare me the Colts But you

know, they made it as far as they did last year

to the championship game Pretty much on the arm

of luck You know, if they added a few key defensive

guys, maybe, you know, maybe they could do a

little bit better. If they don't have to face

New England, you know, that'd probably help.

So, yeah. I think I'm going to pick Green Bay

to win it all. I think Aaron Rodgers gets, gets

the last laugh in the end. Yeah. I mean, it's

Olivia Munn. That bastard. Really? He gets to

laugh twice. Yeah. Yeah. I think I'm looking

forward to it. Recently, at least the last three

or four years, we're seeing more consistency

when it comes to teams in the playoffs than we

have in the past. Maybe it's just my thought,

but the C &C Hawks are over there again, the

Patriots, and there seems to be some teams that

are repeating. But, well, you know, there's always

those, like, surprise teams out of nowhere. Kind

of last year, I thought the Buccaneers would

be a surprise team, and they ended up being the

worst team in the league. So, yeah, that didn't

work out very well. I do think one team that

might do well that might surprise people are

the Chiefs. The talent there, you mean Alex bent

that is not setting the world on fire as a quarterback

But I do think Andy Reed as a key as a coach

is great. I think he's time management issues

But I don't know I think the Chiefs might go

walrus My surprise some people but so yeah, I

agree with that. I see them in the playoffs.

Yeah, so for chiefs fans I apologize. You're

probably gonna have the first pick next year,

but I think they can do pretty well, so What

are the other teams you think would be a surprise

part of me wonders? the Titans, just because

with Mario at a starting, sometimes you see that

team that has like the RG3 started in his rookie

year for the Redskins or when a Vengeance started

his year rookie year as with the Titans that

he had that QB that's a rookie that's kind of

hard to figure out. So they end up squeaking

a lot of games. It kind of like a Teams winning

games that they shouldn't so I could see them

I'm not saying they'd be great team But maybe

like a nine and six or something like that that

may be squeak into a wild card spot Just beyond

if my Mariotta can kind of do some magic here

and there similar to Vince Young using his feet

and making place happen when he has no one to

throw to you because he's got like what no one

to throw to you on that team, but Kenny Britt

Exactly. Yeah, I don't know. How about you anything

come to mind? Well, I mentioned the Dolphins.

I think they're kind of flying under the radar

right now. Nobody's giving them any credit and

they don't deserve any credit right now, to be

honest. The last two years, they've looked good

up until the last month of the season where they

had an epic collapse. So nothing's going to be

handed to them. But I think this year they're

going to get it together a little bit more, get

into the playoffs. And I also, I really think

the The cardinals are going to be in the mix

in the playoffs in the nfc Yeah, I could see

that if if carson palmer I mean they would have

been so they would have had such a better shot

last year if they didn't have like their eighth

straight or their eighth string quarterpacks

studying in the play Right exactly. I think yeah,

they kind of got screwed. They got a raw deal

on that but you know solid defense there You

know ken wiz and hudson good coach Yeah, I think

I mentioned I thought the seahawks were going

to take a step back, but I think with that Watch

out for the saints Feel like they're changing

identity as well But I feel like they're gonna

be coming more of a run team with getting CJ

Spiller who I think is gonna be a good complementary

piece So they're still gonna have high power

offense and their wide receivers may not be as

strong Well, you know Brandon Cook's here and

there so they do have some weapons But I think

that uh, you know that division energy south

has always like one of the hardest divisions

to figure out Each year feels like every every

time and like the worst team becomes the best

team But I think the Saints might kind of a I

don't think Maybe Drew Brees doesn't have another

five thousand yard season, but, you know, they

end up relying more on the run. So they can become

more balanced and end up becoming a little bit

better. So, yeah, I'm not sure about them since,

you know, they lost, obviously, Jimmy Graham

and also Kenny Stills went to the Dolphins. You

know, losing a couple of big weapons there on

offense and the defense never really was fantastic.

So I just think that they're going to. Yeah.

I mean, they still have Marquis Colson, Brandon

Cooks, I think might. end up emerging this year

as a legit star. So fantasy advice there. So

I do agree like, yeah, Jimmy Graham is a big

piece to lose, but honestly, they also got a

great piece back with Max Unger in the center.

So I think Dallas showed last year when you have

a powerful offensive line, it can do wonders.

So I wonder if people are going to try to copycat

that because NFL is a copycat league and try

to repeat that type of success. Two other quick

teams on the rise. We talked about the Vikings

before. I think Teddy Bridgewater, I think he

might turn out pretty decent here. We'll see

if he keeps progressing the next couple of years.

And then also, I think the Rams would be a team

to watch the next few years. Jeff Fisher is a

great coach out there. He's building a strong

defense. They picked up Nick Foles from the Eagles.

You know, we'll see how he does this. I don't

know if he can match that uh superstar year He

had in philly that that one year, but see, I

don't like jeff fisher as a coach. I feel like

His biggest accomplishment is being hired for

such a long time like he's I don't think he's

a bad coach But he's never really he's never

won a super bowl. He's only been the one We always

had solid teams in Tennessee. They were always

making a playoffs and yeah But once he lost Eddie

George and Steve McNair, like he I mean that's

I mean, that's almost anyone but I'm not saying

he's a bad coach, but I I don't know if I would

put him with like the elite coaches Yeah, I just

think he brings a tough kind of a tough. Yeah.

Yeah I just I don't know if he's a typical like

the game playing mind of like that can elevate

talent like a like a bill peljack or even like

a like an Andy Reid, but so You need anything

else for teams surprise teams? How about I'm

out of surprises? What do you guys what do you

guys think about disappointments? For me probably

the Giants Disappointment it's a good that's

that's harder to even figure out because it's

hard to eat I mean would it be a disappointment

if the 49ers are awful this year? I think that's

kind of expected right? I think it's kind of

expected. Yeah Jets yes, thank you Greg Jets

are always awful Yeah, I actually think I think

the bills are also gonna be a disappointment

I Mean, I think we'll show him of course gonna

be a disappointment. I think he's gonna do nothing

this year personally I mean the bills i've always

had respect for the bills. They're a great organization.

They're a tough team rex ryan's gonna have a

tough team prepared, but I just think their expectations

are too lofty this year right off the bat like

Everyone's got them in the playoffs and they're

such a great team. I I just don't see that happening

right away, you know, maybe a couple years That's

my question. You know what I mean? Exactly. Yeah,

they don't a good quarterback Like I said, I

think the seahawks will be a disappointment,

but still good. I mean If you're in the super

bowl Last year anything beyond that's probably

considered a disappointment. So I would say that

the Detroit Lions as well I feel Calvin Johnson

Megatron Megatron last year. He was not Megatron

He was more like he he slipped and I think we

saw Matthew Stafford is not the same kind of

quarterback without Calvin Johnson there to throw

to so Is Calvin Johnson gonna take a step back?

Is he just is he can he kind of regain what he

had last year? I don't know. I feel like it was

It feels escape the Joker's death trap. Maybe

I don't know so I wonder also losing the not

Losing sue for their defensive line my I feel

like they're always that team that's supposed

to be take the next step But they never do so

I I'll say that so any any other teams we want

to talk about a little bit of fantasy Well, just

I'll mention real quick. I think the Bears will

also be disappointed. Yeah I said jay cutler

like oh gosh, I don't even know where to start

with that guy Every year is going to be the year

he gets it together and then it never happens.

Yeah, I know you know losing brandon marshall,

I mean They have some talent there, but their

defense is is pathetically bad. It's really awful.

So Greg I think this is something you can chime

in to and one thing we love doing is play fantasy

football And now Greg last year you had some

bad luck with Adrian Pearson bringing out for

the year You can see what happens when you know

your first round pick ends up not playing it

can be harmful, but drafts are coming up so Greg

when you're when you're draft not to try to seal

your secrets or anything like that, but do you

have any type of? General strategy you have when

you go into a draft anything you specifically

okay? This is what I want to try to accomplish

or you know you just I Set up a shrine to my

lizard overlords and pray to God Draco Thanks,

but usually works for me. I got two championships

from that now. I'm tied for that honor bastard

Dave Just kidding, but yeah, I don't My main

tip is watch out for buys and scheduling. That's

always my big thing because I think the second

year I played, like I didn't, or no, it was the

first year and I was not educated about buy weeks

and I had no idea what they were and that totally

messed me up part way through the season. And

I think I kind of screwed myself over So definitely

watch out for the buys because that that can

be a rookie mistake Don't follow your for your

friends traps and don't like pick up like a Heinz

Ward or something People I didn't know longer

playing it's like yeah That's like on the league

they're always telling the one guy to pick up

like centuries old players uh don't pick up many

kickers they never produce that many points uh

sometimes you'll get lucky and you'll get one

that produces a shit ton of points for random

reasons beer i scored a player on the team for

for some reason Anymore I just try and have fun

with it I really stress myself out the first

couple of years that we played My father would

constantly be like, why are you watching this

if it's making you so upset? I can kind of see

that now that I was a little bit crazy about

it. So Remain calm people remain calm at the

end of the day. It still is just a game. Yeah,

but those we play for money. So it's not like

you can't just reprise. Yeah So those are my

weak points of Playing fantasy football, but

I don't be pretty well since I've won. Yeah Yeah,

I was gonna say I think Greg could you point

out the fact that sometimes you know, I like

I listen to podcasts I do all the stuff and then

I've never won but you've won twice So it shows

you just the game of fantasy football that can

be so maybe you should just stop doing that and

just watch the league Maybe that's the key That

is that is the key. I love watching the league

highly recommend that show Haven't seen it forever

since they moved it over to FXX Yeah, it was

stupid. I don't know what the fuck that's about

Chuck any strategies you do for drafting anything

like that? I mean for me it really the most important

thing is to know what kind of league you're in.

Yes, that's very important. If you're in a PPR

league, which is a point per reception. This

is a hockey league, right? Yeah, you know, a

PPR league, you get your receivers get a point

for every catch that they make. So obviously,

the beginning of your draft is going to be pretty

wide receiver heavy, even a good running back

that catches a lot of passes, stuff like that.

So that really affects your draft. Or if you're

in a standard league, More than likely, you're

going to be drafting running backs high in your

first round or two because they're going to get

you the most points. I don't pay a whole lot

of attention to bye weeks because I feel like

if if you have a lot of good players that happen

to fall on a bye week, I don't really have a

problem tanking one week if you have really elite

players throughout the rest of the season. You

know, obviously, I try to. Sort of spread out

the bi -weeks if I can but if there's players

on the board that I just can't pass up but to

me it's worth it to trade off that one loss or

something for you know guys that are going to

dominate the rest of the year, but yeah, you

know, like greg said to You know, don't worry

about the kickers till the end because they're

you know, pretty much they're all the same So

and I would say like I personally don't I only

have one one kick through one defensive one defense.

I don't Hold to I figured I'll just you know

if I'll just play the the waiver iron and drop

one and pick one up because the the Differences

between kickers defense is typically unless you

have like Seattle and they're great. It's not

that great You know if I need to burn around

I rather hold that Russia spot for some someone

else so it's sometimes you always you always

get like a Random defense like the Buccaneers

will score like 25 points or something A good

thing was often looking at the defense that was

playing Jacksonville and that was the good with

that one. Just keep picking them up every day.

I did that for a while. It was kind of my strategy

for my one league. Another good strategy for

running backs and receivers as rosters kind of

change throughout the year and guys get more

playing time, just kind of look at who's getting.

Who's getting the most balls and the most attention?

How did I know Greg would get going? Just look

at who's getting the most attention and kind

of just go with the hot hand. Like if a team's

got a receiver that they're plugging in and he

had like two hot weeks, you know, in a row, you

know, maybe pick them up and play them for a

couple of weeks and just keep looking for those

things because it's very much a sport where there's

You need to giggle again, but this is very much

a sport where there's a lot of streaking Guys

get hot they have like four good weeks in a row

and then you might not hear from them So you

drop them when you pick something up somebody

else call you back ever again. Yeah Good tip

for you ladies also Yeah, I mean I think you

make a good point know the league you're in also

I wasn't a 16 team league last year and like

by December I got I got Tough the way the wire

got tough you were like getting like scraps for

a lot if you didn't have a player Occasionally

you might get there might be someone good, but

it was hard you know with it We're you know when

the 12 or 10 team league it's not that difficult

to and that's also important because know that

the depth of positions For me like when it comes

to something like quarterback. I tend to be like

the last person to draft the quarterback You

know there's huge staffs in fourth QB. No the

you have you know Top two echelon, you know Aaron

Rodgers and Andrew Luck and everyone else for

the most part So I'd rather just wait and get

like a Sam Bradford or an Eli or Tony Romo in

like the eighth or ninth round and you know that

that's my the way I tend to go and because usually

within the first two rounds my goal is to Get

an elite running back an elite wide receiver

if I can It doesn't always happen. But with you

know, why receiver I feel like there's Right

now there's probably like a top eight and with

Running back like a like a top four if I can

get one of each I feel pretty pretty satisfied

with that for the most part I also try not to

pay for last year So, you know for those people

that like one person that comes to mind is Justin

for set for the Ravens he's going like second

round and I I don't feel comfortable like he's

been a journeyman running back who had a good

year last year, but Is he really worth that like

it does one year really make him a second round

person? I'm I'm hesitant to do that I'd rather

get someone who's kind of been a little bit more

proven and had a better track record than that

too and I also want to get to later rounds I

look for high upside so, you know, you might

get like you if I had to choose between say like

up like an Amari Cooper versus and Enquan Bolden.

Enquan Bolden has - I knew what I'm getting with

him. Amara Cooper could be amazing. He may be

a boss. I don't know but I tend to go for the

upside because you know There's maybe he if he

thinks he can probably drop him and pick up someone

else But I'm wasn't like a bold and I'm kind

of just there's not that many options there You

pretty much know what you're getting but sometimes

it's good to just get a mix of that So you do

have some solid players you can rely on for you

guys like if you're in position say you get paint

manning and then Say like, you know, Demetrius

Thomas or something becomes available. Do you

stay away from getting the quarterback and wide

receiver on the same team? Or do you try to do

that? Or do you avoid it? No, I'll totally go

for the tandems. Obviously, you're going to have

one weekend of the year where you're really going

to suffer. But to me, it's worth it if they're

dominating all the other weeks. And I've done

it in the past. It's like, you know, Drew Brees

and one of his receivers. You're kind of getting

double points on, you know, on their games. Like

you're getting a touchdown for the quarterback.

You're getting a touchdown for the receiver as

well. And if, you know, if they're lighten it

up all year, like, like sometimes, you know,

like you mentioned with Manning and Thomas, like,

you know, they connect a lot for touchdowns.

Like sometimes it's worth it, you know. Yeah.

Greg, do you, do you avoid that at all or just

do you not pretend to? I kind of do because.

The one year I had a tandem duo and there would

be Weeks where they like just wouldn't hook up

at all and the team would mostly go with the

running game and I'd be screwed for that week

is that would be my Sharehold of points that

I was getting points from and it would just screw

me over and so I'd be losing Like a vast majority

of my games because of that so it's it's it's

kind of a big risk You kind of have to really

weigh the options there. Yeah, and how do you

guys feel about? Drafting let's say you guys

hate the Patriots Do you stick away from teams

like if like do you stick away from picking your

own team because they're or do you actively try

to get players from your own team or you know

or Avoid picking people from the Patriots because

you don't want Tom Brady or something like that

Yeah, my I pretty much have a rule I will not

draft anyone from the Patriots or Jets I Have

a similar rule except mine does not include the

Jets I'm also gonna be in another league. It's

gonna be my first league where I'm actually playing

for cash So although still be tempting. I'm still

gonna refuse to take Tom Brady I may Be a little

more lenient. I may be willing to take a couple

Steelers guys, which is a it's a big step for

me Because I don't really like the Steelers either,

but but yeah, I'm still never taking Tom Brady

Do you what about Dolphins players? Do you say

if you had like, you know, say Ryan Tannehill

was there and then I Can't think of someone who's

like maybe a little head of him? Quarterback

wise maybe like a true breeze or something like

that. Would you? See you had to pick one. Would

you go Tannehill cuz you're a Dolphins fan or

Or do you try to avoid that because that way

if like dolphins are bad, then you're also your

fantasy team is bad I think it depends what's

happening like that's that sort of situation

that you could think like you could pick up a

different guy and you know Tana Hill's still

gonna be available next round or something but

yeah, it's he's undoubtedly one of my favorite

players and it's It would be exciting for him

to be on my fantasy team. So I you know, sometimes

I do that I try not to pick too many guys at

the most like Maybe I'll have two Dolphins guys

or something but you know, maybe somebody on

the bench that I could switch out on a bi -week

or something but So Greg you so I know for the

longest time we always try to highlight and get

Adrian Peter said you're gonna do that again

this year you think I've actually not really

been doing it past couple of years Uh gonna shoot

out and aim for him if he's there. He's definitely

a good player. Um, that's for sure So I I wouldn't

stray away from picking him up. But at this point

he's just kind of like another player Will he

help me will he not like the it's that kind of

situation for me. Yeah, makes sense. Makes sense

I don't know. I've gone both ways like I would

love to get old on Beckham jr like but i'm again,

i'm worried about that, but I do tend to You

know, if it's there, I'll at least try to get

at least one giant on my team. Especially if

I can get them in a lead around like it was Shar

-Jennings or like even Victor Cruz is going really

late this year. So I'm not going to reach for

them, but at least it makes a little bit more

fun. And like I think Greg, you mentioned the

point is to have fun with it. So if it makes,

if you can do that. I tried to so yeah, if you

don't have money in it like Chuck you can have

fun with the game exactly start I'll just start

all Giants players that won't that won't come

back to bite me at all I'm gonna be so stressed

out this year now that in this one that I'm actually

playing for money if you like Studying things

every week Very nice. Yeah, very cool. All right,

but so yes, that's pretty much you know, I have

the Colts and The Cowboys in the Super Bowl Chalk

you have the Colts and the Packers with the Packers

running it all and I know Greg you said the Seahawks

and you're not sure with the AFC if I'm not mistaken.

Wanna throw out a team just for shits and giggles?

I'll go with the Patriots because I don't want

to see them there so they will probably show

up. So you're gonna go with the Patriots and

the Seahawks. So a repeat from last year which

would actually be kind of cool if that actually

ended up happening and wouldn't be the first

time it happened so. All right, but we'd love

to hear what you guys think of what's going on

with the 2015 NFL season. Who do you think is
