Comic-Con News and New Trailers

About this Episode
Hi, this is Kyle Higgins and you're listening
to the Geek Patch Radio Network. You are now
on the inside of what I like to call the circle
of trust. We are all connected in a great circle
of life. You know something Bert? What? I think
you and I are going in circles. It feels like
we're going in circles. The circle is now complete.
When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I
am the master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we
heard about the circle. Yeah, that's what a million
would change. Hi, this is Greg. This is Chuck.
And this is Dan, and we are Talking in Circles,
brought to you by the GeekCast Radio Network.
The podcast at your one stop shop for all comic
con news because today we are dedicating our
episode to the phenomenon that is comic con as
we get into the nitty gritty of what happened
in san diego a few weekends ago so we get to
do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do
do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do

It does. I don't know why they did not incorporate
that as their theme song, but before we get to
all the fun of Comic -Con, how are things with
you guys? Things are good. Pretty exciting week.
Comic -Con week's always exciting with all the
news coming out, so I was kind of glued to the
computer the last few days reading all the stuff
and watching stuff. Yeah, I felt really stupid
like when we did the record last time I'm like
there's not that much news about comic -con a
couple days later It's like here's every trailer
ever for the next ten years. So yeah So and then
I post I got some good news just for the show
today. I got an email that my I pre -ordered
a Marvel Legends Exclusive set from entertainment
Earth and it just shipped already and I wasn't
expecting it to ship to August so that was pretty
nice What did you pick up? It's a exclusive Guardians
of the Galaxy box set and it has all five team
members in it in Marvel Legends six inch scale
Nice. Yes, like is there a build -a -figure with
it too or just them? No, just the five but you
do get a little baby Groot in the flower pot
nice Nice nice does the star Lord come with the
mix tape? No, I made my own though perfect perfect
Greg you you you the same you've been glued to
your computer looking for all the awesome updates
about movies we're probably not gonna like. I
was drooling over all the things that were coming
out of there and now I'm stuck on eBay looking
at all the stuff that I couldn't get because
I wasn't there. All the Funko Pop stuff. But
yeah, I watched a ton of trailers and all that
goodness. But there's also an interesting day
today. I got my Ant -Man Marvel Collector Corps
box, finally arrived. There was some kind of
shipping crap going on, so I finally got that.
A lot of cool stuff in there. Cool Ant -Man shirt,
cool Funko pop vinyl. What's the pop final of
Ant -Man? It's of Ant -Man and then it's got
a minute It's an exclusive one because it's got
a miniature the smallest Funko pop vinyl Bobble
head ever made They're really right in that being
really small thing for that. I mean, they're
not you're not cutting that gimmick at all. Well,
yeah They're kind of going the opposite way of
guys with big dicks The guys with big dicks are
like yeah, look at my big dick. I got a big dick
I'm talking about my big dick here. They're talking
about. Oh, look at my tiny. I am a man Oh, I've
got this little tiny action figure over here.
I've got the tiniest funko pop final But besides
that other cool things we actually got at my
work we now have A Pac -Man old arcade machine
but this one comes with like a whole bunch of
games and stuff. So there is going to be no work
getting done at my job. That is awesome. What
other games are on there? Donkey Kong? Donkey
Kong is on there, yes. Donkey Kong Jr., Pac -Man,
Ms. Pac -Man, Pac -Man Jr., Galaga, Centipede.
Uh, dig dug space invaders. Um, yeah. And then
there's look at some that I don't even, I've
never even heard of. So that's, that's, and the
thing is like, even though you can play those
on your phone, still being able to play them
on an arcade is just, yeah, it's got a freaking,
I get to play with the joystick while I'm at
work and I'm in trouble. What was your boss's
idea with this? It's like, you know what? I don't
want my people working, so there's an arcade
for you to play. Well, it's down in the studio
area, so customers can play it. And I told my
boss, I came up with an idea. I'm not sure if
he's going to do it or not. But I was like, Rich,
we need a giant board here, like a high score
board. And every month we'll have a different
game. So the first month we could have pac -man
and we'll have this giant scoreboard of pac -man
scores and i'm like whoever at the end of the
month is the highest score gets a gift card for
somewhere and i'm like kind of generate some
buzz and stuff about the studio kind of a cool
thing that nobody else has and just a little
kind of like sample a little present back to
our customers kind of thing nice nice You can
get like a gift card do bad. There's not like
an arcade in the in the neighborhood anymore.
Yeah, there's not Give them a gift card to an
arcade, but I think it would be more something
like food or something like that Sweet sweet.
I mean, I thought it was special because this
week my work had we made pancakes for everyone
I think I'd go go go with the arcade. Yeah. Yeah
special special pancakes, but Did you make them
like Mickey Mouse shaped or anything? No, we
should have though now just regular gluten free
Because you know why not and then and then there's
there's tons of people out there that have gluten
allergies Yes, or just do any gluten because
that's what people don't do anymore. Yeah, but
or and some good old -fashioned Chocolate chip
pancakes, but I found interesting where people
would have the gluten free pancakes within the
syrup which I'm like isn't that all right? Whatever,
but I don't know how gluten works It's just a
wheat product kind of thing that's in there.
Yeah It's what makes it kind of stick together
everything makes sense makes sense But my week
is kind of, yeah, same. I have not done much
at all. Been catching up with a lot of the news,
which has been kind of cool. Connor, my son,
kind of rolled over for the first time, which
is a little bit of a cheat because apparently
like to roll over, there's parameters of stomach
to back or back to stomach. And the fact that
he has a huge head tends to just motive. It just
is this like a ball of momentum. It's like juggernaut.
Once it's going, it just can't stop. So it's
kind of how it works. But that was kind of cool.
We've been trying to get in on video and I feel
like he knows. it because every time we bring
it out he's not doing it and then once you put
it away he'll do it immediately it's like he's
got a bit strange right yeah it's exactly exactly
but the other thing i've been doing i did catch
up with for the last few weeks i would say is
the hbo a few weeks ago debuted some of their
new shows it's like they always have like a series
of shows because after Game of Thrones ended
after then Silicon Valley ended the same week
and so did VEEP so their new slate came out which
were True Detective and two brand new shows on
the brink and Ballers and I gotta say it's been
a little bit of a step down I loved True Detective
last year the first season was to me like one
of the best TV series ever this season I can
recognize a lot of the talent. I think it stars
Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch as
well as Colin Farrell and like the acting, the
performances, they certainly show a lot of talent.
It's just a show that's so... Super serious and
so stinking depressing that I can't really get
myself to watch it because I just like I don't
really want to feel bad for 45 minutes like this
depressing and there's like nothing there for
me to actually Gravitate towards or go latch
on to like the family Sandra didario naked Exactly
the first season had that the first season had
that and it was where there was plenty to grab
on to But also like Matthew McConaughey, Willie
Harrelson. I thought there was more of a mixture
of like the drama wasn't was there but there's
some breaks in it putting what he helps and I
think is he can Just naturally be comedic or
he's he's a presence to him that I tend to gravitate
towards He is but in this role he's Playing it
serious. He's playing playing it straight and
I will say, you know, his performance is good
He's it's just the characters. I don't find all
that intriguing because they're just all so Stinking
sad, you know, and I think I get drama and I
think it's it's good but I think there's also
a point where there has to be some sort of bright
light, but it's just like uber uber uber depressing
and i don't find the story as strong this year
so with all that said it's i mean i can recognize
it's craftsmanship but it's also a brand new
person doing it and i don't know it's not nearly
up to the same level as before so i don't know
if just me getting older like or me just being
too tired it's just i don't know if i'm gonna
watch something i don't want to be depressed
for 45 50 minutes maybe if i was a year ago i
wouldn't i wouldn't think that but They also
kind of counteract that after that they have
two new comedies with ballers and on the brink
baller starts stars of course Dwayne the Rock
Johnson as this former Miami Dolphins Chuck football
player who is now a sports agent and a lot of
people been kind of comparing it It's like the
sports version of Entourage. I've never watched
Entourage So I can't say that but I will say,
you know, it's fun. It's entertaining the issue
with it to me with that show though is It's drama
is not really laid out very well It's the big
thing with him is like he's trying to sign these
different sports stars onto the agency He's working
for but it's not really built up enough for things
to really feel like they matter It's just some
matter of fact It's like it's hard for me to
recognize the importance of each moment because
they don't really set up the stakes very well
So it's just like I think a scene is just an
overall scene But oh no if he didn't get this
guy to sign that moment it would have meant meant
the end of his career or something like that
but what I find The most intriguing about the
show though is that they actually use NFL licensed
logos. Like there's glimpses of The Rock when
he was playing football and he's playing and
he's a Miami Dolphin and you actually see the
logo. But what's weird about it is that the NFL
actually didn't allow or didn't, they didn't
purchase licensing from the NFL. They don't have
a partnership with the NFL. The reason they can
use it kind of falls under fair use. I guess
you're allowed to use logos and things like that
if you're depicting those logos in a realistic
way. So because they're depicting a football
game that would really happen in a way that would
really happen, they can actually use the logo
and they actually show like a situation with
the Green Bay Packers and they're in their offices
and you see their logos. And since that's also
somewhat of a realistic situation and it's not
used a great deal for a long period of time,
they can use their logos, which I, I, to me,
it's, it's, I find that weird. Cause how could
they not use the Steelers then in the dark night
rises. A stadium blowing up like that's realistically
come on I will the reason why is because it's
not very very realistic that Heinz Ward can run
a kick off to a four touchdown That's true. Yeah,
not anymore. Yeah. Yeah, that's when they're
like, okay I get the guy with the mass coming
in but Heinz Ward running a kickoff or a touchdown.
Come on, like that's not the field collapsing
and imploding that was fine Yeah, so that's a
good question. I was thinking like other sports
movies like, you know the replacements But obviously
that's a little bit more cartoonish and not not
cartoonish a little bit more extremes. Yeah,
that's a fun movie But uh, you also I don't know
if you ever watched that you remember that show
on ESPN that had it was the playmakers Which
was like a football big drama that they had a
long time ago. I don't know if you ever saw that
It was actually quite good, but they also Depicted
a lot of players in really negative light. There's
like the star running back who like took drugs
and all that But so I was the star running back
who punched his wife Star running back you beat
his child Yeah, so quarterback who cheated Yeah
Yeah, so yeah, they were worried that that TV
show would shine a bad light on the NFL I guess
instead of the actual players Yeah, so I found
that kind of funny though, just seeing that they
can use it. But when you watch the commercials
for the show, they don't show the actual logo.
So I don't know the parameters of it. But it
made me think of there's actually a South Park
episode where they use the Redskin stuff because
it's no longer copyrighted. And then the other
show on the brink, it's okay. It's this like
political satire. Tim Robbins is the... Secretary
defense and this coup happens in Pakistan where
this like militant leader becomes the leader
of the country and There's worry that like nuclear
war will start and the only person that can save
them that's currently in that country is of course
Jack Black Who's like? He works in the embassy
as you know, there's like an aid but he finds
himself in the middle of everything and it's
humorous There's some but it's just to me is
dealing with like heady material, but it's very
light on the com the comments not very biting
for it to be a political satire to really have
that and also i think there's just the characters
are the actors in it. Are just too famous because
you think about comedies it's all about the characters
is what can i get you there like a sitcom you
maybe not laughing to begin with when you get
to know the. characters, it becomes funnier.
But with this, with the actors being so ingratiated
into us, like we know who Jack Black is, you
kind of have an idea who Tim Robbins is, it's
hard to get to that point because you're coming
in with preconceived notions of who they are.
So it's hard to even buy what new character they're
being, especially when that new character is
not that much different than who they typically
are. So a lot of the jokes don't Don't feel as
natural or or it's hard to really get an idea
of like, okay Who's really this person supposed
to be? So it I think it has potential. It's only
been a few episodes I'll definitely catch up
with it but I think of all those shows when I
tend to enjoy the most is is ballers just because
the characters are fascinating and it's it's
shot pretty well and uh in the william the rock
johnson's pretty pretty charismatic he can carry
a show so and something that's for him that's
not a mindless disaster movie or family film,
so You can go bala city squala Exactly. Hopefully
they depict the the dolphins better than their
other Cinematic appearance which was in East
Ventura No one's trying to kill the marina as
a far as I know. Nobody kidnapped the mascot
No, not yet. Not yet. Though it is weird because
I do feel like doing the rock johnson like he
he has like the build of jason taylor so i just
get that like that sense in like seeing him in
like the uniform with the helmet on he kind of
has they look a little bit alike but so what
we're going to do right now is we're going to
take a quick break when we come back what we're
going to do is get in the nitty gritty of comic
-con so we'll see in a bit Hey guys, this is

love to have you. Alright and welcome back and
like I said, we're gonna talk about all the things
that happened in comic -con But before we get
in the comic -con news some more recent news
or some recent images just dropped today as we're
recording it and we got to talk about it because
Now we are huge x -men fans here so much so that
Greg has a tattoo of x -men fittingly new images
came out today where we finally got to see what
Psylocke Apocalypse and I guess Magneto looks
like we though we kind of know who Magneto looks
like because he's been in three movies already
And if you've not seen them, I'll put them in
the show notes. And let's just say the look of
Apocalypse is a little questionable at best,
maybe? No, you mean they're actually filming
X -Men Power Rangers crops over and they actually
have Apocalypse being Ivan Ooze now. I've been
hearing that comment a lot, actually. Damn it,
I thought it was original. I was still looking
forward to making that joke. That's funny, everyone's
drawing that comparison I've heard that comparison
and he didn't the fact he looks a lot like the
Cree from or the Cree from garbage the galaxy
a little bit Yeah, it's a little bit like Ronan
in I like apocalypse. I have a I'm looking at
build a figure of him right now on my desk. And
he's a hard character to pull off, but I don't
know. It's just something about it looks off.
And I think that the biggest thing, I like Oscar
Isaac as an actor, but seeing him like smaller
than everyone else just seems kind of weird.
Yeah, his head's too tiny or something. Just
seeing him stand next to other people, like Psylocke
and Storm, there's another image of them together.
Yeah. He just, he looks tiny, yeah. Yeah, my
guess is - He should be like, giant size, like
- The Rock and Vin Diesel had a baby. Yeah, yeah.
Physically imposing, like seven feet tall. Yeah.
He should have a head that's just about as big
as Sylvester Stallone, like around that size.
Yeah, he's got a massive square head. I'm guessing
in the movie that there'll be additional CGI
and I'll probably grow or something like that,
so. I think it's good to kind of think back to
when we were looking at images of X -Men Days
of Future Past and look back and think of the
images of certain characters that we thought
were ridiculous. For example, Quicksilver, and
he ended up being one of the best portions of
that entire film. The difference here though
is that you have a main character and his look
is so apparent that it just seems like it's going
to be hard to see that in context and see it
working at all. I mean Apocalypse is a character
that like it hinges greatly on his looks to me
like I mean other characters you can kind of
change them a little bit like Quicksilver ended
up working out maybe this one will too but I
don't know. Where are the where are the frowny
the frowny death lines on his face? Oh I love
the frowny death lines they don't have those.
No frowny death lines. You see a little bit of
the Egyptian influences. There's a tad but yeah
with the like skirt thingy my bobber Yeah, yeah,
but still you think they could there's gotta
be something better than that. I don't know Honestly,
if they did it like they did the Hulk and Avengers
like You know, yeah motion capture CG or whatever.
I think it would look a lot better or even Thanos
You know, they're doing Thanos motion capture.
Yeah I would say that would also work, and maybe
that's what's gonna happen eventually, like he'll
somehow, you know, you know how he grows. Like
Apocalypse's powers, or like whatever they need
it to be at that specific moment, they're not
really well defined. Also, this could be like
maybe a transition point, even though they show
him kind of with some other characters, but you
know, maybe his costume changes at some point,
maybe his look changes, who knows? Yeah, he's
at the Emmys, and he's like, oh, this outfit,
we're going to the next thing, I'm going to be
out on stage singing soon, so let me change into
this outfit. Mr. Sabanour, who are you wearing
today? I'll put your hands in the mani -cam,
mani -cam epoch. This is the Egyptian Dolce gown
that I'm wearing. Egyptian Dolce. This is Centurion.
There'll be like a pretty woman montage of him
with all his different outfits on and everything
like that. He puts his hand in to get the necklace
out and snaps shut on him. What did you guys
think about the other looks, like Psylocke? Psylocke
I thought looked really good. Yeah, I agree.
Yeah, I disagree on that. Really? I mean, she
looks very much like the comic. Her hair a little
bit different. The purple hair seems a little
bit too far. It's a little bit more. It's a little
bit more like the ends instead of the whole thing
is purple. I don't know. I like the look they're
going for with the comic look. But for some reason,
when I just look at it, it just. Screams like
cheap cosplay to me. I don't know why Like I
think I'm probably in the minority there because
I know a lot of people been saying they liked
it But for whatever reason I look at it. It just
looks like someone cosplaying at a Comic -con
or something. I don't know. It is very simple
But I I to me that kind of falls in line with
that character because our costumes very Wonder
is that because it's Olivia Munn and you're just
thinking of like when she was in cosplay as like
all those characters I'm hoping like maybe in
the actual movie when things are moving and the
lighting is different. Maybe it'll look better
What what did you think of Magneto? I think he
looks awesome. Yes I've liked the variations
that they've put on him over the course of his
few movies. So that didn't really bother me at
all Yeah, the increase of color I think is a
good idea and it's funny when you think about
it too because look at how much X -Men has changed
in 15 years. The first X -Men came out and they're
black leather and people had a lot of issues
with it. But as comic book movies have become
more accepted and give the Avengers now you have
all these more kind of bright and like out there
and certainly that fall more in line with the
comics. So X -Men franchise is probably the one
that has probably adjusted the most since its
first Incarnation All right, anything else regarding
the costumes at all? Well, I know uh, was it
yesterday or the day before? I just heard that
in the x -men apocalypse movie would possibly
see more Comic book influences on the costumes
and then like, you know, the pictures released
today and that kind of brings true Yeah, but
uh, how about the did you guys see the storm
picture? I did with her with the mohawk. Yeah,
that looks interesting Yeah, does seem like she's
gonna be a horseman I would assume because I
saw her in sidewalk with Apocalypse which kind
of makes sense since storm originally was with
the Shadow King and influenced by him So yeah,
I think in her as a horseman is could be intimate.
It could lead to a lot of cool fight sequences
and things like that Definitely We need some
more bad costume apocalypse jokes I thought it
was weird how they have the They have like those
tubes that are usually going into his arms. They're
like going into his head now Like I don't I don't
know it's But I know we complained about Quicksilver
like you said and that turned out really great
so yeah, I know and we all had some maybe I think
similar issues with like the Future sentinels.
I thought some people had some problems with
those but then yeah, yeah, which I mean It's
a little bit different when it's such a huge
part of the movie, you know, which is the main
villain I mean the kind of vibe that I got was
almost like juggernaut in X -Men 3. It just looks
really fake Probably the same designer Probably
and that to be fair X -Men have has had a lot
of really bad costume choices think of even X
-Men Days of Future Past Toad who looked ridiculous,
you know, it's a ridiculous character, but they've
always had a some questionable choices when it
comes to some of their characters. I think even
Sabertooth looked pretty bad in the first one.
Oh, man, Sabertooth. Yeah. Oh, Hoi Ve. Talking
about Comic -Con, I would think we have to kind
of go here because it is the big enchilada, though
maybe you would argue some other news came out
that became even bigger than this. But it is
a movie that everyone's been talking about, maybe
waiting for, I don't know, it's Batman versus
Superman. And we've got Our second trailer and
I know the first trailer we had a lot of apprehension
Second trailer we get more we get a lot of Jesse
Eisenberg as as Lex Luthor. That is an awful
wig Which what we can talk about but Greg I know
you we all did but the second trailer of Batman
vs Superman Do you think it's an improvement
you about where you were previously or even more
skeptical? I don't know I There's just nothing
there that really interests me like Batman would
be an interest to me, but I don't care for Ben
Affleck He looked capable in there like I just
don't know how they're gonna blend those two
characters together I think I'm the most out
of all of us. I'm the most out of the loop with
that movie though so I feel bad for commenting
on it, but I mean, the only thing I know is that
with the trailers have been showing us for the
most part. So yeah, and Jesse Eisenberg with
that wig is I don't care for him as Lex Luthor
so far. It's supposed to be a wig, right? Like
that is that is that like a callback to the original
Superman? That's well, he actually did have hair,
I believe. And in the. Yeah, like in the 80s
or whatever. There was a thing where they like
put his brain into a younger body and he had
like long flowing red hair and stuff. That's
back when he was dating Supergirl, which was
really awkward. Yeah, I actually had those and
read both. Yeah. So I'm thinking this is a wig
or else maybe it's his weird hair and he loses
it from getting kryptonite cancer or something.
I don't know. But yeah, he showed up to me if
you show me that character and had him talking
the way he did I almost like get a more riddler
vibe than I do like flu Lex Luthor. Yeah, I think
Lex Luthor I think intimidating I think someone
who can stand up toe -to -toe with Superman just
with his bravado and I thought you know, it's
really joke around a lot No, no, it's he's really
more of a dry sense of humor. Yeah, and I'm not
one who say you have to be like the comics but
I'm not just, I just the direction, like he doesn't
seem like he fits at all with what they're doing.
Like it doesn't, he feels like he's from a different
movie, at least within the trailer. Yeah. And
I'm curious to see how they're going to fit all
of this into one movie. It seems like they're
trying to pack in a lot of stuff into this one.
There's a lot of characters going on. There's
Batman, there's Superman, there's Wonder Woman,
there's Lex Luthor. Like I just feel like there's
a lot going on. Yeah, I wonder if Wonder Woman's
just gonna be like in the beginning or something
like that or I don't know It's hard to tell cuz
the way the trailers cut it makes you think that
she's fighting Superman But I have a feeling
that's not the case like that's just it's maybe
something off in the distance or something Completely
out there, but you know trailers we can't be
deceiving. That's kind of the impression I got
I think Zack Snyder's fighting Superman That's
true so Chuck I know you probably you're the
biggest Superman fan out of all of us So what
did you think of this trailer? I? Definitely
liked it better than the first trailer. I will
say that I was surprised how long it was. I think
it was over three minutes so there was definitely
a lot jammed in there and I don't know if part
of that was to try to Make up for people's displeasure
of the first one. So maybe they're trying to
win people back over. I don't know but There
was a lot of cool stuff in this one and it did
leave me a little bit more excited than I was
previously There's a lot of cool stuff that I
saw in it. There's still some questions I have
still some concerns that I'm kind of worried
about but I'll start with a couple of cool things
I liked was and this is just a hunch but when
you see Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne he's running
towards his building and you sort of see the
the heat vision like cutting through the sides
of the building and stuff that's like the final
battle between superman and zod and he runs into
this dust cloud and he saves that little girl
he's kind of hugging her i kind of got the vibe
i don't know about you guys but i got the vibe
that like maybe she just lost her parents and
i think like bruce related to her i mean this
is all conjecture but i get the feeling that
he relates to her since he lost his parents and
maybe he just takes it personally and goes off
the deep end We'll see if that comes to pass,
but I thought that was kind of interesting at
least thinking that in my own head taking that
direction, but yeah the the other thing was uh
It kind of seems like Alfred's gonna play a fairly
significant role in this like as sort of a significant
like a supporting person to Bruce like which
he definitely is in the comics and I mean they
got into that a little bit more with in the Christopher
Nolan movies, which was cool, but Other than
that, they never really focused much on Alfred.
So it'd be kind of interesting to see how much
he's like playing on Bruce's mind, because he's
telling him like towards the end of the trailer,
like he's not your enemy. Like, why are you fighting
him and stuff like that? And it kind of looks
like Bruce is maybe going a little bit too far
off the deep end or something. But I thought
that was interesting. I thought. You know seeing
Perry White there and Clark working at the newspaper
I think that'll be interesting to see more of
the Clark Kent side of that persona Because we
they always focus on the Superman So I'm really
interested in how he can portray the character
of Clark Kent. Like is he gonna pull off that
sort of like clumsy mild -mannered person that
You know to throw off his identity so nobody
knows. But he already revealed it to Lois in
the first one, which is kind of weird, but. Or
she figured it out before he told her. Yeah.
They actually, I did read an issue of Superman
and they have a really cool thing going on in
Superman right now in the comics. Wait a minute,
you read an issue? Yes, because it had the new
Batman in it and I wanted to... catch up with
all this new batman stuff that's going on so
i actually did read it and they do have an interesting
concept going on in there with superman so i'm
kind of if i'm going to read superman i think
i'd be more into this superman that they have
going on right now in the new 52 yes in the new
52 yeah where he's just in a t -shirt and jeans
I haven't read any of the New 52 stuff, but I've
heard people say that he's like more cocky, sort
of like, he has more of like an attitude or something.
Well, his, well, that kind of you get from the
DC thing, but from the animated movie that came
out that we all watched. But in this, he's kind
of lost a little bit of his powers. He can't
fly. He's lost a little bit of his strength and
everything, and his identity has kind of, is
kind of revealed out there. And it's out in the
world. So everybody knows Clark Kent is Superman.
So it's I like the fact that he's kind of a little
bit depowered because you know I didn't like
Superman because he was like Untouchable kind
of and they made him a little bit more He definitely
would have liked him in the silver age because
he was like he could He pulled like 12 planets
behind him with a chain What kind of chain is
that? Who made the chain? Really large chain.
It's probably adamantium. I don't know. Yeah,
back to the movie. I think I did see Wonder Woman
in there quickly. Like you said, I'm curious
to see what they're doing with her. If she's
in there for a good deal of it or if it's just
a short part. She does look like a goddess though,
Gal Gadot or however you say her name. Gorgeous.
Gal Gadot. Yeah. Gorgeous. Sorry. pervy, pervy
interruption. No, that's all right. Yeah, I'm
pretty interested to see how they portray her
fighting skills and stuff like that. That should
be pretty cool. And I guess the only other thing,
the one thing that kind of bothered me is Diane
Lane is back as Martha Kent, but they were kind
of showing some of her dialogue. Yeah. And I
don't know, like, I kind of get what she was
saying, but it didn't really hit me right. Like,
it just didn't seem like the Martha Kent that
I... She was kind of dickish she was like fuck
those people kind of yeah She's kind of like
you she's like you don't know these people anything
you never have I'm like that's not Martha Kent.
She would not say that at all. I Don't know what
what Zack Snyder has with the you know, the Kent
parents. He's like, yeah, they're kind of horrible
people Should I let all those kids die on the
bus? Yeah. Yeah, sure. Yeah, I mean, they might
find out that you're, like, really strong. We
don't want that to happen. Just fucking let them
die. No, but maybe it's, like, a misdirection.
Maybe it'll, like, maybe it's taken out of context,
so it'll be different in the film. I don't know,
but... I would say it starts off pretty well,
because it's, you know, telling him to be that
hero, or... I do wonder if it's... You see the
full scene ends up making more sense. But I remember
thinking the same thing about the trailer for
Man of Steel when the young Clark Kenton's like,
should I let this kid die? And he's like, yeah,
maybe. And I'm thinking, oh, it must have been
taken out of context. And it wasn't. That was
the context. Jonathan Kent is a killer. They're
kind of dicks anyway, so who really cares? Teenagers
are annoying, just a little bit. Now I get what
you saying I like how she was saying, you know
either be the hero or don't like commit to it
if you're gonna do it and I you know, I take
it that he fully commits to it and goes all out,
but It just it's something's off there about
the kents. I don't I don't Really be the scrolls.
We don't you don't know. Yeah, maybe I don't
know Do you do you think we get kryptonite in
this up in this version of it be? Can I say yes
because lex luther is like almost fondling it
like a giant ball at one point a giant testicle
Wait, I remember he's caressing everything lex
luther has like the touchy feely thing going
on Yeah, and I don't get the red capes are coming
comment because there's only one person with
a red cape. So yeah Yeah, that was really really
strange even the way he said it like Yeah, I
don't know. He's acting like he was kind of crazy.
Yeah, it's I would say I do think I over I've
been relatively negative but I am much more excited
after this one in the first one mostly because
of the Concepts of Batman and Superman seeing
them together. I think that's gonna be a lot
of fun That's that that sequence within them
going toe -to -toe, you know, I do I do love
the image of him like Kind of just opening a
superman opening up the batmobile and them just
like staring down each other The opening sequence
of seeing Batman run into the cloud of dust while
the ones running away like that's pretty cool
like that I think that's a pretty good good moment.
So that was interesting. That was that was my
only really favorite part of that Really and
putting Batman within the city as that's going
on. It's a little bit of a comp out but I think
it does at least Make the reason for them to
fight each other a little bit more Little bit
more interesting. So yeah How about the the shot
we see of? Batman using his grappling hook jumping
off the top of the building. That's pretty cool.
Yeah. Yeah or the I saw how it was a meme or
something on the on online I think was reddit
and it shows a thing It's like, you know, you
know shit's going down when Batman has to call
Batman because he's like turning the best single
on Yeah, that's pretty true. I'm going to go
ahead and call for the real Batman. Christian
Bale shows up. Christian Bale, where are you?
I thought, Affleck, he didn't say much in the
trailer, but I thought you looked the part for
sure. I do like the little image of him pulling
a tire, I guess training or what have you. I'm
always for a training montage. That's always
good. Yeah, definitely. Superman's like... Superman's
pulling the truck that the tire was off But of
course DC could not be out undone or it cannot
stop there at least because there's another trailer
that was released Another that the movie that's
gonna come out out after Batman or Superman and
that of course is Suicide Squad Also was apparently
not gonna be released, but then it got leaked
so then they eventually did release it in full
form which goes to show you just the craziness
of all that, but Chuck Meeble will start with
you here. I would say on the surface, the tone
that Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman have
seems like it would work better. With Suicide
Squad considering the content, what did you think
of the actual trailer? I liked it. I didn't,
I guess, I didn't love it right away. I was trying
to get my head around kind of what they were
doing, but it's very, very grown up to me. Like
it looks pretty dark. I know Batman versus Superman
sort of looks dark in a way, but this looks even
darker. Kind of going along with that, I like
Will Smith a lot, but he almost seems out of
place in this trailer so far. It's weird. I mean,
it's definitely be a good test for him to sort
of round out his acting experience. This is something
a little bit... Different I guess like I know
he's done action stuff before but this is like
I guess to another level or Everyone's on this
team is sort of like crazy in their own way.
Yeah, it's it's weird seeing him as like a just
another piece of it because Usually he's like
the coast the main star or the cup there at least
like the elite seem as just like you know, the
third build, or at least the, I don't know how
the team dynamic is gonna be, but it doesn't
seem like they were really pushing him as a major
element of the movie. He just seemed like a side
character. Yeah. So that, I mean, he seemed a
little bit out of place. I'm guessing it'll probably
be better, you know, once you actually see the
whole thing. But I like, I like the fact that
we're getting a little crossover here. You see,
you see Batfleck on top of the car. That's pretty
cool. I know they had said some rumors about
him appearing in this and getting to see him
on the on top of the car was pretty cool. Harley
Quinn looked interesting, I guess. She looked
really creepy, you know, like in the iron prison
bars and stuff like that. And it was like interesting
choice of music to like that creepy song they
were singing, like it kind of sets the whole
mood and the whole thing. But. Definitely a very
eerie feel to the whole thing. And then obviously
it ends with, you know, the Joker there. And
that's just... That's interesting as well. I
don't have a problem with just the little bit
I saw of him, like... I don't question really
his acting or the way he's approaching the character,
but... the design of him himself, like with all
the tattoos and it's just, it just seems so overboard.
Like he's got the grill, you know, the teeth
and everything. And it's just like, they're trying
too hard to say this is the Joker. He's got like
ha ha tattoos all over his arms and stuff. And
like big, like a big picture of a smiling mouth,
like with the tongue out and stuff. I don't know.
Do you think that would have worked better if
we didn't get that image that we saw a month
or so ago? If that was just a small glimpse,
would it not be as jarring considering we kind
of have a better idea of what he looks like overall?
No, I don't think so. I think it still kind of
struck me funny even though I knew that's what
he looked like. I don't know, I can't really
put my finger on it. He sounds good. I like his
accent. I mean you get a little glimpse of the
laugh there, which is kind of cool That actually
sounded pretty cool. I'm just hoping they can
sell me on the look as I'm watching the film.
Yeah Greg, what did you think? Yeah, I like the
Amanda Waller's thing at the beginning explaining
everything and that really intense meeting with
whomever she was with I thought that was kind
of cool because it kind of hearkened me back
to the Batman animated stuff and the Batman Beyond
scenario with where she's really old and everything,
so I thought that was kind of neat. Didn't like
how Harley Quinn looked. The acting for that
was alright. Will Smith... I kind of thought
he had a big part in the trailer at least. I
kind of disagree with you, Chuck. I'm sorry.
I didn't like Joker at all. That version of Joker
does not scare me one bit. I feel like he's just
any kind of villain. I didn't really say I liked
him. I just kind of like his accent. Well, I
didn't care for his accent, but that's neither
here nor there. He just didn't do anything for
me. Overall, there's no characters in there that
didn't really do anything for me overall. After
the Amanda Waller thing, I kind of got a little
bit bored to be quite honest. They didn't really
set anything up for the most part. It was just
kind of pretty pictures and some nice music going
for the most part. That's all I got out of that
trailer. It didn't hit anything home for me.
Interesting I guess I'll all be the the minority
here because I I Really liked Lido and his look
I agree that there's there are certain improvements
that they could have made the tattoos a little
bit step too far You know I've seen other images
of him on set where it's more the classic look
which may be an improvement But I don't like
the for the little bit that we got of him I I
don't know if scary is the right word, but I
certainly there was something different about
him the direction he was taking that I am definitely
more interested in and Even same thing with Harley
Quinn. I thought something about her seems a
little bit Kooky in a good way and I really think
that that dynamic between those two characters
Joker and Harley could could be the best part
of the entire film Will Smith I think he was
fine in it. It just it does seem like he's out
of place The look of it is consistent with the
looks of the other movies that have come so far
You know that it makes sense for the most part
some of the characters though though the one
guy who's like He's more CGI or he's got like
a mask on I forget like Oh Killer Croc Yeah,
Killer Croc. His look is really corny to me.
I think even he looks worse in the apocalypse
honestly and I'm glad that the Batman is gonna
be in this it didn't sit like give you an idea,
but I did think Amanda Waller started off. I
thought was great looking forward to seeing her
character You know, she certainly nails up that
role if you had asked me which one I'm more excited
about I'm probably I don't know. I'm probably
a little bit more excited with Suicide Squad
just because it's such a wild card of not really
knowing what it's going to be. I don't know anything
else about that movie we want to talk about.
Exactly. I can't think of anything. Yeah, not
much else to go on. Maybe we'll switch things
up a little bit and get out of movies. And there
were some TV trailers that came out too. Most
notably TV trailer for a series I'd never thought
would actually happen. And that's ash first evil
dead and i don't believe a lot of talk about
here but greg i thought i'd give you a shot cuz
i know you are a fan of the evil dead series
are you i am even though i do not like sam raimi's
spider man i just like that they. The old series
i didn't see the newer movie cuz it didn't look
like it fit in with the old standard of all but
the this tv show looks excellent they have bruce
campbell back. who is amazing in pretty much
everything he is in and they're definitely making
it more that funny horror type of thing. It's
very kooky, insane with what's going on. A lot
of comedy in there but it's it's like a be rated
whore there's a lot of schlock going on and just
weird stuff going on like you had a crazy like
little mannequin attacking Bruce Campbell's face
which he harkens back to. When he fought his
hands well not when he fought his hands but there
was another one where he fought many versions
of himself and i was trying to which was already
darkness. Yeah i think so i'm just trying to
remember which one it is cuz there's. There's
one and two are basically the same movie. And
then third one is Army of Darkness, I believe,
where he fights like a little miniature versions
of himself, which is just freaking crazy. But
that that looks awesome. I wish I had stars so
I can actually watch it, but I do not. Yeah,
I didn't know it was going to be a TV series.
Like I thought it was going to be like, I don't
know, like a VOD movie or something like that
or even just like a comic. And I'm like, oh,
this is actually something that's existing and
being made. And I can see it. Are you at all
worried that Bruce Campbell is a little too old
to play that part? No, because they kind of joked
about it at the beginning with him there in that
corset. So that that really. Doesn't bother me
and they're they're kind of making fun of that
fact and they're leaving it kind of A light and
funny so I don't have an issue with that Yeah,
I mean me either. I I hope they don't Lie on
that type of humor too much where it gets a little
bit tiresome, but I am intrigued by it. I Don't
even know if I think I had a preview for stars
I don't know if I even have it but it does it
does kind of stink that it's on stars Hopefully
it'll come on Netflix or something And I think
that pilots can be directed by Sam Raimi and
it certainly has a style all over it So when
you said you didn't see the updated version you
talking that you didn't see the new evil dead
that you did see army of doctors I didn't see
that that super recent one where they kind of
did go like Actual horror with it. Yeah the remake
it was certainly very gory and it was the biggest
change I guess was that ash was a girl and They've
changed a little bit things, but it's okay. It's
you don't need to rush out to see it This is
I think more in line with army of darkness because
there's like you said more of a schlockiness
to it There's gore, but it's it's horny with
like a wink. Yeah, it's scary, but not really
scary. It knows what it's supposed to be Yeah,
it's certainly a lot of fun. That's like I think
to be the goal of it. So well, it'll be cool
I'm glad to see it and you know Maybe we'll have
a musical episode because I don't know if you
know there was actually a army of darkness musical
For a while that was actually pretty funny. So
I did not know they'll pull out a musical That's
not a field enough And I don't know if you saw
this trailer Greg is I know you haven't been
keeping up with Walking Dead But I know Chuck
you did and it's a trailer for the new Walking
Dead series for the Walking Dead What did you
think of that? I? Thought that was pretty interesting.
It looked pretty cool to me. I Think like what
I like about it is it looks to be more about
the early stages of of the virus spreading and
kind of events unfolding and you see people fighting
back and everything because like in the regular
Walking Dead series it kind of glossed over all
that stuff and it really picks up after all that's
already taken place and you know the infection
is like well on its way and everything and when
Rick comes out of the hospital and stuff so this
I'm sort of interested in seeing how things unfold
and how people deal with it and everything and
Really, my only concern is that I hope the characters
are just as likable as the original. Yeah, my
other concern is when you think about it, right,
like walking, the thing that's intriguing about
Walking Dead is that it picks up where most zombie
movies end. So that's what's different about
it. It is that zombie movie that never ends where
if you're the walking dead seems to be following
the pattern where we've seen other zombie movies
do, you know, where you that they first start.
Appearing people don't know what it is and you
have that Terminal that ensues not that necessarily
that's a bad thing because it'll be I think Interesting
just to see how that took place in the walking
dead world knowing where it came. I Do worry
about the characters a little bit. I do love
the fact that it is in a complete new location
So I think that's a good idea. So you get you
don't have to worry about Doing crossovers or
anything like that. It can be its own thing So
and then I think that's also the smart way of
placing it with a prequel type of timeline. And
not only a different place but an entirely different
setting because they promised that there will
be no wood scenes at all. Really, I didn't know
they promised no wood scenes. Yeah, they said
it because because you know, the regular series
is pretty much all in the woods now Or was for
a while there, but they said like all pretty
much all urban setting stuff for this one interesting
Cut that tree down cut the no trees That all
leads a lot of fun things I think because you
think about walking that it kind of gets a comp
out for food because they just go hunting and
they're all kills a deer so they have food, but
when you're in urban setting, you don't have
as many options. I guess they'll be eating a
lot of rat, maybe. I don't know. Rat and stray
dog? Delicious, delicious rat. Yeah. Did you
see the trailer, Greg? I'm guessing you didn't
catch up with that once you've been behind with
walking dead. No, I didn't. I'm sorry. Oh, it's
not worse. I would say if you're worried that
it would spoil things for Walking Dead, don't
be, because it doesn't get into anything for
that. Forgive me, Daniel, for I have sinned.
I know. How dare you. I dare you. I'm hoping
this series kind of gets into what actually caused
this virus. Yeah. I'm like, I've really been
searching for that this entire time watching
the original show. I'm like, what the hell started
it? I'm like, where did this come from? And I'm
like Brad Pitt in World War Z. I'm looking for
patient zero. So I'm kind of hoping that they.
touch on that at least somewhat like yeah even
in the first series like my favorite episode
was the cdc episode because it sort of explains
a little bit anyway yeah it it's it's uh that
that common mystery when it comes to zombie films
that like they don't Necessarily tell you like
the dawn of the dead series They'd never really
said and then song of the dead has a pretty funny
running joke regarding the cause of the of the
zombie epidemic so that's a question will will
say where it came from so that's That'll be the
one thing it can probably You could probably
go down and then if it does reveal that that
does maybe give them a compound a way to end
the series that in walking dead because you have
Maybe a way to fix it all or something like that.
So Yeah, maybe like that'll be the big bomb that
they drop at the end of the regular Walking Dead
series or something that like the virus started
with like Miley Cyrus or something. It came in
like a wrecking ball. It did. It started with
the twerking and then it didn't stop. Yeah. Those
weird faces she was making, that's really where
it started. Yeah. I could see that. I could see
that. Were there any other news we didn't pick
up? I had a few other ones, but I wanted to see
if there's any specific things you guys wanted
to talk about. There is one thing I wanted to
touch on really quickly, and the last trailer
for Fantastic Four was released. Oh, was it?
That's pretty much it. I want to like that movie
and I've been kind of defending it, but every
trailer that's come out, the last one just...
Did you so you saw the new one that came out
the other day I did I did Yeah, it's just the
thing I worried about most is this dark to doom
like his look is just he just it Why can't they
get that character right? Why can't you just
give the guy a metal mask? What are you gonna
be weird about it? Just give me a little mask
What did you think of did you like it or did
you were you not a fan I was not a fan it really
like I think even lessened my interest more than
Like I I honestly think I probably won't even
see it in the theater I'll probably just wait
till it comes out like yeah box or something
I'm just not invested in this at all like for
some reason even the actors like really aren't
intriguing me at all like I know they're all
good actors in their own right and In past movies
they've done and everything like I like Kate
Mara a lot and stuff and I know you said you're
a big Michael B Jordan fan and everything But
it's just they don't seem to gel to me at least
in the trailers. I don't know No, I agree and
they don't feel like they let Michael B Jordan
be that Johnny Storm character It does seem super
serious. It almost feels more like a DC film
than it does a Marvel film Which is weird to
say because you think about 15 20 years ago Marvel
was the one that was super serious in DC was
and it's kind of had a You know flipped on its
head with it with these movies. So yeah Greg
was anything you wanted any stories that kind
of caught your eye at all? I'm trying to think
here. Did you catch the Deadpool trailer? I did
catch the Deadpool trailer good good move. I
did see the back of the theater It's tough to
judge because the video quality is so atrocious,
but it looks really good from what you can tell.
It looks like it's got that humor that you're
expecting. And they do show that little bit that
they had in that little animatic. They did have
that, but they changed it up a little bit. It
was him kind of saying his funny parts. beforehand
and kind of that action scene kind of just changed
to a musical montage type of thing. And then
I also liked T .J. Miller as Weasel going back
and forth with Deadpool talking about Deadpool's
unmasked face and how horrible it looks. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't know. Chuck, did you see the Deadpool
trailer at all? Did not I didn't get a chance
to yeah, I don't kind of had a hard time finding
it Yeah, it was every time I got pulled up a
gap pulled back down It was like Greg said the
quality wasn't all that great But I think you'll
be excited because it seems like one of your
favorite characters is playing a major role in
it Or at least based on the trailer and that's
Colossus. No. Oh, yeah Freakin Colossus. I remember
hearing things that he might be in the movie
but like he at least has a few sequences at least
from what I can tell was hard to hard to really
see, but it seems like he does have a number
of sequences within the film, so that's going
to be kind of cool seeing him in a completely
different setting. Yeah, you might actually see
him kick some ass in this one. You might actually
see him have more than four words to say, even
though he's been in two movies already. I know.
We have nearly as much dialogue in the X -Men
franchise as he does. I do hope it's just not
too much with the like pushing the humor I mean
obviously you need humor, but I just it's not
overloaded with like the I don't know It tries
too hard to be funny. I hope there's enough seriousness
not seriousness, but it picks its spots a little
bit more But I thought the action looked fun
had the one shot of like the like the triple
kill like that was really cool I like that a
lot and I love the look of Deadpool and how they
you know, they CGI I'm assuming they CGI the
eyes at least it looks like that But I think
it's a little bit of an interesting touch because
it just makes him stand out that much more so
I'm really excited of all the comic book movie
stuff where you We've been seeing I think that's
the one I feel the most excited for. Oh, yeah,
definitely And I gotta find this And it should
be out soon. I might be able to hook you up if
I still have a link for it So it's not the greatest.
It's hard to it's like it's a squint and it's
very hard to judge. Yeah You're better off looking
at like old -school porn on a scrambled channel
than you are watching this trailer And I was
searching high and low for not for scrambled
porn that'd be weird but for Like comic book
news that came out in comic -con and there wasn't
a lot Marvel actually didn't really release that
much the biggest thing Marvel released was that
they were gonna have a crossover with Star War
or with Vader and the other Star Wars books and
I was thinking a lot of reaction where it's like
Oh, I can't wait for this crossover. I'm like,
do you mean like Star Wars? Cuz that's like what
that movie is about. I don't know why this is
That's kind of happened. He's kind of got involved
with the other rebel characters, but I'd have
I've liked the Star Wars books. I'm looking forward
to that. But the premise of it seemed interesting
though where he's kind of like Deserted on this
planet and it's like him and a whole bunch of
rebels there or whatever. Yeah That does seem
cool. It's also seem like him in a new dynamic.
Have you read the Darth Vader series at all Greg?
No, I've been sticking with just regular Star
Wars and Princess Leia I haven't really ventured
out from that too much Like the Vader series
for the most part. I've only ever had up to I
think issue four It's it's I think it's hard
to write for Vader because you know Vader's Emasculated
yeah that or he's not you know, he's not the
most Emotionally death character in the world.
He's kind of he's just one thing So it's it's
just weird seeing him in different situations,
but I think overall they've handled it well and
it was arch pretty good as well for the most
part the Like the look of here at least has been
pretty cool. So I would I would maybe if you
see trade I think it's worth picking up but I
was hoping there would be more Star Wars stuff
in general that came out over the oh Yeah, did
you see the like the bat behind the scenes video?
I did see that that was really cool. Actually,
that's all I need Like you don't even need to
show me a trailer like that has me excited. Yeah
I saw Greg's good buddy Peter Mayhew on there
Yeah, I Guess Simon Pegg is playing like a like
just some sort of random alien or something like
that. Nice. I love Simon Pegg. Yeah That was
cool. But uh The other there's some DC news where
they're gonna have a crossover with Batman and
the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Because why
not, you know, so sure but I don't know any anything
else you wanted to pick up before we do have
a letter from a fan that we can discuss. Oh,
another fan. Yeah. What do we have, like three
listeners now? No, I don't think so. I did actually
have a quick Star Wars related story, guys, pertaining
to Star Wars graphic novel, which it's kind of
a cop out for sticking it in here, but it is
somewhat relatable. But I've stopped at Books
of Million the other day after work and You know
they have like a discount section where stuff's
like really marked down and everything. Yep.
And they had a lot of Star Wars books on sale.
And a lot of them were like $4. Well. So I picked
up a couple of them. I got this one that's called
Star Wars Honor and Duty. Which is pretty cool.
Duty. And he said honor. Honor or duty. And then
I also get the graphic novel adaptation of the
episode two movie and stuff like that. So I'm
checking out and the honor and duty book is on
top and the guy like, the guy rings me out, right?
And he prints the receipt out and Greg will get
this because you're like... You're like me, you're
very picky about how your books look and everything
has to be, you know, sharp corners and no dings
or dents or frays or anything like it's got to
look really good. And I'm kind of crazy about
that, too. So he prints the receipt out and.
Like there was like this thing he was showing
me on the receipt with some kind of survey that
you go home and take online, and he's like. you
know, circling stuff on the receipt, but he sets
it on top of the book. And so he's creasing the
book. Yeah, so he's circling stuff and he's writing
and I'm like, oh gosh, I'm like, I don't know
if this is denting it, but I hope it's not. So
he's like, oh yeah, take the survey. And he's
like circling shit and writing stuff all over
the receipt and everything. So I'm like, okay,
yeah, thanks. And I walked away and I kind of
like tipped it to look in the light and there's
scribble marks all over the cover. Like crease.
I'm like, ah, damn it. And I didn't want to be
like a total jerk and like, you know, call them
out on it. So I kind of just hung out there for
a second until the next person went. And I was
like, I was like, oh, I didn't realize this stuff.
The covers kind of messed up on this one. You
mind if I get another copy of it? He's like,
Oh no, sure. Go ahead. So I, I set my books there
and I went and got another duplicate copy and
brought it back. And I think he realized what
he did while I was gone. Cause I came back and
he's like, I'm so sorry. He's like, I didn't
realize what I was doing. I'm sorry. I'm like,
oh, that's cool. No problem. I just played it
cool. So never do it again. Secretly inside,
I'm like, what are you doing? You don't know
anything about comics. You never write on top
of them. Even for a regular book, why would you
do that? That is insane. I thought you were going
to say you went back up and you did it again.
No, luckily he didn't have to ring me out again
because it was the exact same copy. I just switched
it out. That's funny. That's funny. Anyway, I
digress. Uh, we usually end each episode with
a letter and last week we had a fan write a letter,
but this one, a fan, another fan wrote a letter,
but it was more of a question for us that I thought
maybe we can touch upon real quick. Since we
are talking about comic stuff and this is more
comic book related, it's been, I apologize, it's
been a little bit since I've got to this, but
Brian Jackson wrote us a letter and he has said,
uh, hey, talking in circles, I figured it was
time to paint the piper and write you like you
requested. I'm not talented enough to write a
letter if I can do it, anyone can, so I don't
need to say that, but I do have a couple of questions
I would be interested in hearing your response
to. What do you guys think about Miles Morales
becoming the new Spider -Man for the Marvel regular
universe? Are you okay with this? If it means
the end of Peter Parker? Is this Marvel just
changing for change sake looking forward to hearing
your responses Brian, uh, I don't know if you
guys know but there was Announcements, uh, man
might have been about a month ago by now that
After this current event that's going on in the
marvel Universe, I guess comic book universe
that miles morales will be like the head spider
-man From what i'm reading peter parker is still
gonna exist. He's not going away, but I guess
he'll be doing his own thing But my worst malice
is going to be more on the forefront than he
was Previously, and I know that of course because
of any change like this There's some sort of
controversy because it's calling books and that's
how things work. So Like brian asked you guys
have any opinions on this change at all of you?
Do you mind it? Do you care? Do you think it's
just not going to really matter because I'll
change it back in a few weeks? It doesn't bother
me because they're trying to progress Peter Parker's
character to something different, and they're
bringing in Miles Morales to kind of fill in
that role that's being vacated by Spider -Man
as this young hero. that's that's kind of coming
in and has to go to school and everything and
kind of has a whole bunch of a lot of stuff happening
to him as whereas we can finally experience Peter
Parker finally getting his just desserts of of
finally being able to have money and not have
money issues and maybe get relationships together
and I think it's kind of interesting because
he'll be kind of more of a Tony Stark because
his business has really upped his game and also
we get a more international kind of Spiderman
kind of Go in different places to to be spider
-man. I don't really care love alex ross's, uh
artwork But I don't care for his take on the
spider -man suit and all he really did was make
a little bit of a blue glow around the The spider
on his chest and the blue put a little blue in
his eyes. Um I just was that for myles morales
was that for the that's that that's for peter
parker. I don't I don't mind uh, myles morales's
with the the black and and read. It's kind of
a symbiotic plus regular version of Spider -Man.
But I don't mind Miles Morales. I haven't read
him that much because I haven't been reading
Spider -Man altogether too much since they made
that change where they were going to un -marry
Mary Jane and Peter Parker. I just thought it
was weird. And I think now they're trying to
backtrack to kind of make up for that. Yeah.
I don't know, Chuck. Have you been keeping up
with any of this at all? Not a whole lot. I really
haven't read anything to do with Miles Morales,
to be honest. I know he was created partly by
Bride Michael Bendis, so I hate him. I mean,
I don't know a whole lot about him. I know a
little bit. I guess he got his powers in a similar
way. He was bitten by a spider that had the Oz
formula or something. I guess maybe it's similar
to the movie or whatever. They kind of had the
Osborn formula. Yeah, I'm not really sure but
he does come from the ultimate universe. So it's
a little bit of a difference and I really have
a problem. You know, I'm kind of along the lines
of Greg Lake, you know, when they get to a point
where they're trying to change an existing character
too much, you start ticking off a lot of fans,
a lot of hardcore fans and stuff. And if you
if you have a mold that you want to fit something
into, There's nothing wrong with going and creating
a new character to fit that. That's fine. I'd
rather see them do that than change something
classic beyond recognition, and you kind of tick
everyone off. And I mean, if anything, I think
it adds a little more relatability to readers
and stuff, because it's like a lot of kids want
to be like Spider -Man. So now you see a new
character that gets his same powers. I think
it's more relatable of anything. Yeah, I mean,
I think the benefit of this, you have two strong
characters and it gets to the point where Peter
Parker can't be that young kid anymore. He's
been doing it since the 60s. Eventually, it's
comic books, but still you need characters to
develop for them to stay interesting. Greg mentioned
for him for Spider -Man to go in a different
direction. I think that does open up a opportunity
and I've read a limited amount of miles from
Morales. I've had the most recent series with
the Ultimates. I thought was really great. There
is this one. One issue with him and his father
like their dynamic is really cool because his
dad was like a former shield agent, but there's
some. Questions there. He is similar to Peter
Parker He has interesting family dynamics that
leads to a lot of drama and he's similar enough
to Peter Parker But also different it's like
certainly a different twist on it But so I think
it really works and honestly if you look at us
Secret Wars storyline that's going on it almost
feels the entire purpose of it was to ending
the ultimate universe and what they did was take
like the last good thing that it had which was
myles morales and bring him into the normal universe
so it makes sense and I think a lot of people
got caught up in the fact that oh the race thing
but I think it at this point that character is
beyond that you know it's that he's establishes
himself as a a good character and yet he's racist
part of who he is, but it's not the defining
part of it. So I think that was maybe the highlight
or the headline, but I don't really think that's
the motivational purpose behind it. I think it's
more of a character choice than it is some sort
of example of social justice or something like
that. I think it's, I think people are just maybe
looking at that because that's what gets attention.
We have some more questions. There's actually
another question email. I mean we can get to
next week. I apologize We haven't got to it,
but if you do want to send us emails, which are
