Talking in Circles
Sitcom Draft

About this Episode
Hey, this is Greg burger and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network You are now on
the inside of what I like to call the circle
of trust You're all connected in a great circle
of life You know something Bert I think you and
I are going in circles The circle is now complete.
When I left you, I was but a learner. Now I am
the master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard
about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with shapes.
Hi, this is Greg. This is Chuck. And this is
Dan, and we are Talking in Circles brought to
you by the Keycast Radio Network. A podcast that's
bringing to you another... of our infamous drafts.
We've done a lot of drafts in the past, our action
hero draft, superhero draft, supervillain draft,
but we're gonna go a new route and do a sitcom
draft as we try to create the ultimate situational
comedy of all time. Before we get to that, how's
the week been going for you guys? It's been going
pretty well. I guess probably the highlight of
the week was Father's Day festivities. My dad
wanted to go to a local car show that they have
around here every year at this big park that's
called Neog Park. Every year they probably have
between 400 and 500 classic cars there. It's
a really, really big show. We haven't gone in
quite some time. We used to go a lot, but we
probably haven't been there in like four or five
years. So we decided we'd head back there this
year. And it was a really cool time. We got to
look at all the old muscle cars and drool over
the ones that we can't afford and everything.
It's crazy how much those cars are worth right
now. You can't find anything for under $30 ,000.
That's crazy. My dad and like everyone from his
generation. It's like, it seems like everyone
had one of those cars at one point and like most
of them got rid of one and like most of them
like kind of wish that they hung onto it or something
like that, but just because of like how valuable
they are now and stuff. But it's fun to look
at, you know. The generation and muscle cars
are generation at comic books. Feels like a little
less manly. You know, it's like, right. Well,
you know, we have fast and furious, but it's,
it's just not quite as, you know. Not quite as
manly, I guess. No, when it sounds like your
car is powered by a kazoo, it doesn't really
have the same oomph to it at all. Yeah, the fart
can mufflers. But yeah, we had a good time. We
talked to a couple of guys there about their
cars and most of them were pretty friendly and
stuff. It was a hot day, but it was neat just
to get out for a couple of hours. And then we
all went as a family. We all went out for some
miniature golfing and stuff. So that was a good
time. Had a nice little... Relaxing day, I guess
you would say nice nice Greg. How about you?
How things going with you? Are you feeling any
better from last week in your? You're very violent
vacation Yeah, I'm feeling better. The only problem
is if I sneeze then that That really, really
hurts still. I don't know what the hell the deal
is with that, but I sneeze like at least once
a day and then apparently my body's like, oh
yeah, I shouldn't do that. That's not fun. Um,
but other than that, I've been like really lazy
lying around. I've been watching a lot of, uh,
if you remember back in the day, They had a breaking
the magicians code and they had this dude in
this this funky mask that kind of came out and
did magic trick and then showed you how it was
done. So I've been watching a lot of that kind
of stuff, which is interesting. I learned a small
sleight of hand trick that's kind of cool. And
I pulled it on my parents and they were actually
impressed. Yeah, I remember that was like on
like it was like He had a weird -looking mask
on and then they finally like revealed who it
was and I'm like, I have no idea who that is
It was a guy named Val Valentina That just sounds
funny I don't even know what you know, you gotta
use you gotta use those moves to pick up some
babes now Greg Yeah, the one trick that I know
He does have four assistants and they get very
punny and Like over sexualized with the with
the assistants that kind of come out on stage
I'm like this is worse than me even I'm like
I'm having trouble handling it and I'm like the
biggest like over sexualized and punny remarks
like it's it was bad Yeah I don't remember that
in the show, but maybe it was just as a kid was
over my head, but I guess yeah It was like during
his little commentary. I doubt you would remember
the commentary is it was like and here comes
his lovely assistance as always up He made her
legs disappear. I hope he brings them back soon
I know I'll miss them Oh man, apparently he can't
make his creep factor disappear so he doesn't
have that ability. He pulled some creepiness
out from behind his ear. I like Chuck had a pretty
good father's day, it was my second. My son to
his first baseball game, which is was exciting
because it's the first time I've been the Kenman
yards in Baltimore in quite some time It was
this point. It was a beautiful day We made it
like all the way to like the top of the eighth
But like after that, like he was just kind of
ready to go I would actually probably meet it
but there was a huge delay because the umpire
got hurt from behind the plate I guess he got
hit by a balls day to get replaced So but the
game itself was great Orioles won they were rocking
it. So pretty and then we also the day before
that Went to a chap's pit beef, which is a famous
place around here got a sandwich, which is like
I put a Picture on Twitter Twitter and Instagram
of it, you know, it's a cam roast beef turkey
and I had American cheese and Some jalapenos
in it as well. It was like, you know, I didn't
have to eat for like a week after that It was
it was intense. It was a good time But yeah,
so enjoyed some good time with the family. It
was it was enjoyable I'm surprised Connor made
it that far into the eighth inning. He was doing
great We were actually were we lucked out because
we were on the where we were sitting we were
Underneath the upper deck so we weren't in the
Sun we were nice There's actually a lot of families
there because it was Father's Day But there was
a lot of kids and there's some kids behind us
that he was kind of playing with and the guys
the person next was actually was great because
uh I guess they had two extra tickets, so they
let us like We only had two seats, and we were
just kind of like you know because he can't take
a seat But by himself, but we put him in between
us and it worked out well for the most part and
he kind of just hung out and You did pretty well.
Anytime he got antsy, we kind of walked around.
They have like a little play area for for kids.
And then we also went to got us like to give
you a certificate for your first baseball game.
Oh, nice. Got one of those. Apparently, it's
for anyone. So I kind of got one as an adult,
but I never did. And I should have. But it's
like it's just your name, like in your first
Orioles game. So that was that was kind of cool.
We went to the area for kids, but it was. He
was too young for most of it because it's like
a slide area and then batting cages and a moon
bounce and stuff like that. He's too young for
all that. I'm pretty sure Connor probably would
have lasted through the game longer than I would
have. Probably. He was really into it. He's like,
you know, that guy's on my daily fantasy team.
I'm like, I didn't even know you had a daily
fantasy team. I have a lot of things I got going
on you don't know about. It's much better at
daily fantasy than I am. As long as he's not
like on DraftKings or something, we gotta hear
those commercials again. Yeah, I know. I can
never do fantasy baseball. It's just too much
of a commitment. Just like, it's too much. Yeah,
that and I only know about like... Seven players
in the entire league Probably six of those around
the Orioles Actually speaking of baseball. I
recently watched a baseball inspired movie and
that's Actually from Richard Linklater director.
He's done the before series and he's in confused
and the movie's a spiritual sequel today's new
confused It's called everybody wants some and
recent film came out this year and the premise
of it is actually it's about this baseball team
It's like three days before college starts or
college baseball team, and it kind of just follows
them around in their escapades. It's very much
in the vein of Dazed and Confused and the fact
that it's not very plot heavy. It's just kind
of going from vignette to vignette, like letting
you hang out with these characters for, you know,
a few hours basically, and actually really quite
dug it. It reminded me of like... The grown -up
Sandlot, in the sense where, yeah, it's about
baseball, but baseball isn't, you know, there's
no stakes. They're not playing for the championship.
They're, they practice. There's one scene of
them practicing. It's really about the camaraderie
of these guys, these guys as individuals. I'm
trying to find themselves with who they really
are within, within the framework of kind of the
neighborhood they're growing up with. And they're
just, they all really feel like really authentic
people who are very, of the time, it's very much
a period piece. It takes place in the early eighties.
it's very like it's a kind of movie where you're
listening to the music and it's like I the soundtrack
is gonna be great because it's filled with Just
iconic songs from the time period all different
ones from country to disco to rock to pretty
much everything to punk and it's this I know
it's almost like a microcosm of just like that
time frame in that time period and and it's like
I said, it's not very the story itself is rather
simplistic. It's just following these guys. There's
somewhat of a through line with one of the main
characters who It's somewhat seeking this girl,
but it's really about you know them them their
party escapades them joining them them Doing
all these you know type type of bro activities
in a way and I could see that being annoying
from some people But I think it there are some
more there. It's it's within all the you know
typical behavior is Some discussion that you're
if you know Richard link later. He is like a
guy who loves his Pontificating when it comes
to dialogue and it's within that as well to make
it more than just your blatant sex comedy But
it's a lot of fun. I just enjoyed being watching
it and as a guy who loves the Sandlot and they
know they're very odd comparison But they do
seem like a very good double bill, you know It's
like watching that version of kids and then seeing
that those same type of people as like, you know
right before college college high school years,
so It was fun. I would, I would definitely recommend
it. Um, not much more to say about it than that.
Like I said, if you're ritual and clinical inner
fan, like these are confused, I would definitely
recommend it. But along the same line of sports,
I know not baseball, but basketball, Chuck, you've
been all about it recently. We touched upon it
last week and I made a joke about Lombon James
not winning the championship and then he does
win the championship. So, Hey, what are you going
to do? You know, can't be right about everything,
but, uh, uh, I was curious what you've been watching
recently. Actually, I've been watching a few
sports documentaries. I'm a big fan of sports
documentaries. I never like, you know, plan on
sitting down and watching anything, but it's
sort of those spur of the moment things where
like, I'll have like an extra like, you know,
hour or two. And like, I'll just kind of sit
down and ESPN will be running like a 30 for 30
marathon or something like that. Or like, you
know, maybe on the NFL network, they're playing
those, you know, football life shows or something
like that. And I love that stuff. So this week,
I actually got to see two ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries.
And the first one that I'm going to talk about
is coincidentally about the city of Cleveland.
And the title of it was called Believeland. Yeah,
there you go. Yeah. This is actually a great
documentary. It's basically, it kind of goes
through the history of Cleveland sports and it
kind of highlights all of the major failures
of the sports teams, I guess you would say, just
to kind of point out the times where their team
made it to a championship or close to a championship
and completely blew it. And it's it's actually
astounding how many times that this has happened
to Cleveland teams. And there's like there's
specific events. And it's funny because like
during the documentary, they they interview people
that are like from the city of Cleveland, like
they're Cleveland natives. And I never realized,
but Arsenio Hall is a Cleveland native and they
were interviewing him on the show. And it was
funny because he was pointing out the fact that
he's like, there are actual like events. in the
history of Cleveland sports, where they take
an important thing that happened and they put
the word the in front of it. And he said, it's
usually it usually happened to us. Like it was
something catastrophic. So he's like, if you
if you if you Google stuff like this right now,
it will come up. Cleveland sports like the drive.
Obviously, when, you know, John Alway drove 98
yards in the AFC championship game and. defeated
the Browns when they essentially snatch defeat
from the jaws of victory. The fumble, you know,
when when the artist binary, you know, fumbled
on the two yard line, it would have sealed the
deal for them in that game. And the shot, which
was when the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team
was playing Michael Jordan, the Bulls. And, you
know, they kind of had the game in hand. And
that's when Jordan made that famous shot from
just behind the foul line. And he was kind of
like. Jumping in midair and he hung just a little
bit longer than the other guy Till he moved out
of the way and Jordan sank the junk jump shop
about the butt fumble Well, that was the Jets
Question how many times did you rewind the Jordan
shot just to watch it over again? Well, the funny
part is I didn't have to because they showed
about six times Yeah, they like they just kept
showing him and I forget the guy's name on Cleveland
a search for the E I think it was like a strange
name, four letter name, but I can't remember
how to pronounce it. Um, but like the guy, you
know, jumped up and it was obviously like a really
tall guy and he jumped up to like block it. But
like, like Jordan had this uncanny ability to
just like levitate in the air. And like he, like
they both jumped, but it just seemed like Jordan
like stayed up longer. It was so weird. And the
guy like as he's Coming down, he's kind of moving
out of the way and Jordan like kind of just falls
back and makes this jump shot. And that's when
the famous thing where he, you know, he jumps
up and the Cleveland guy kind of like falls over
into the bench and stuff. So that like that's
labeled the shot. So there's like all these things
with the word the in front of it. And they go
through and they talk about all of these. And
they also talk about the baseball team, the Cleveland
Indians. the 95 season, they came close to winning
the World Series and they kind of blew it. But
the 97 season in particular, I thought that was
really entertaining to listen to some of the
people retell that story. They ended up playing
Florida Marlins in the World Series and the Florida
Marlins at that time were an expansion team.
They were the new team in the league. I'm not
sure if it was that year or the year before,
but they're a very, very new franchise. So they're
they're in the World Series for getting all these,
you know, good players and everything on their
team And they're they're playing the Indians
and I believe it was the series was tied 3 -3.
They were in game seven It was the bottom of
the ninth and I think there was two outs and
the Cleveland Indians were up two to one and
Wild thing came out. Yeah it was fascinating
listening to a couple of people talking the one
guy was like a um like a cleveland uh sports
writer i think he might have had like a radio
show at one point or something like that but
he's kind of telling the story about how you
know obviously they just they kind of need like
one out to win the game they're up two to one
and like the the mlb officials are like literally
bringing in the world series trophy into the
cleveland indians locker room like they're wheeling
it in on this cart and yeah and they're and then
they're wheeling in this this other cart with
like all the champagne and everything that they're
going to like you know just start spraying all
over when they celebrate and everything and they're
bringing in the hats and the t -shirts and everything
says you know cleveland indians world series
champions and stuff like that so they're wheeling
all this stuff in the locker room and like people
like could kind of see them doing it like some
of these guys and they remember thinking like
this is like surreal you know like this is just
too weird you know so like you know, back to
the game. The Florida Marlins proceed to get
a couple of base hits. They drive in a tying
run. So the game is now tied 2 -2 in the bottom
of the ninth. The MLB officials... wheel the
trophy back out of the locker room. They take
the champagne with them. They take the hats and
shirts and just like all the Cleveland fans are
like, like, are you serious? Like this is happening.
They're literally taking it out of our hands,
like out of our grasp. And then, of course, the
Marlins with another base hit, they drive in
the winning run and they win the World Series.
And Cleveland is just devastated. I was like,
oh my gosh, that's like one of the craziest sports
stories I've ever heard. It's funny because you
don't hear many people talking about that series.
Yeah. That's what I thought, because like I never
knew about it. And I watched this and I'm like,
how did I not hear about this? This is like such
a fascinating story, you know, to literally like
deliver the trophy to them. And then it's like,
no, can't have it and like take it back out.
But pretty crazy. I'm guessing nowadays they
probably wait till the actual game's over. But
that was pretty funny. They also talk about a
couple of their major points, like obviously
the Cleveland Browns leaving the city of Cleveland
when Art Modell moved them out of the city for
financial reasons. I'm not sure exactly what
the details of the reasons were, but they wouldn't
let him. get a new football stadium. I guess
he couldn't secure the funding for it. And he
kind of threatened to move the team and stuff
like that. And I guess he never intended to actually
move it, but he kind of felt like his hand was
forced and like people hated him for that. Like
he got death threats and like all this stuff
in the mail, like hate, hate mail letters and
stuff like that. Obviously moved the team to
Baltimore that became the Baltimore Ravens. And
I'm sure Dan's Probably wishing that never happened,
but. And then a few years later, they won the
Super Bowl. So yeah, and that's that's what they
talked about, too. Like the guy was saying, you
know, it was only a few years and Modell was
I think Modell was still the owner. And yeah,
because he was he was down the field and he was
saying like, you know, watching the Ravens win
the Super Bowl and watch. watching Art Modell
actually lift the trophy up they said it was
like sickening they wanted to like throw up because
they felt like that was that was theirs you know
if they would have stayed in Cleveland so yeah
that was a very very low point a lot of people
in the city were extremely like depressed you
know in a big city your football team means a
lot you know any sports team really and then
you know especially if they just move out that's
That's heartbreaking for a lot of people as sad
as it may sound, but. And then also obviously
when they drafted LeBron James for the Cleveland
Cavaliers basketball team, they, they thought
that, you know, their luck was going to turn
around because he was like the best player to
come out since like Jordan. Um, and he was going
to win them a championship and a few years into
it, they, they had a few disappointments and
everything. And then obviously I'm not sure it
was. If it was four years or seven years, I can't
remember exactly how he, how long he was there
in the first stint, but obviously left and went
to the Miami heat. Um, so the city was like heartbroken
when that happened. They felt like, and, and
LaRon James was actually from Akron, which is
just outside Cleveland. So they, they felt like
he was like one of their own, you know, one of
their own people. And he just kind of abandoned
some and goes to Miami obviously went into two
championships there. but it was it was interesting
because this I watched this show and I think
this is the reason they played it obviously but
this this show was on the exact night of game
seven of the NBA finals last weekend and of course
we all know the Cavaliers actually wound up winning
Ron James and the Cavaliers so they finally uh
got a championship in the city of Cleveland it's
been 52 years since any of their teams have won
a championship so that that's why that was such
a huge deal and you know after all the heartbreak
and everything all those times where they came
so close they finally got it so it was pretty
neat for me to watch that show and then see that
happen it was a neat little you know neat little
story arc to kind of experience over the weekend
i thought that was pretty cool so did that show
actually have you rooting for lebron james over
the at the end of at the end of game seven no
Mean in a way I was rooting for the city of Cleveland
kind of like I I really felt bad for them especially
after watching this documentary I was like wow
these fans have been through so much like and
I'm like, you know, it wouldn't be so bad if
they won I I know I'm not a huge LeBron fan,
but he's not the worst guy in the world So and
and also if the Warriors won people would have
been trying to say that they were better than
the 96 Bulls Which they're clearly not It was
funny because they showed like a this graphic
like even if even if the Warriors would have
won They still actually would have lost five
more games than the Bulls did in their season
Because they lost more playoff games than the
Bulls did I saw it was like a meme of something
about like, you know Oh LeBron James has the
most points ever in a game seven It's like Jordan
was like I probably would too, but I never got
that far. I never had a play game seven Exactly,
they when there's like five or six Most of the
time. So yeah, that was cool. It was a neat little
show. Highly recommended if you're into sports
docs or if you're a sports fan at all. So you
watched that actually on Netflix or was that
just on regular TV? That was on ESPN Channel.
It was on cable. They were playing the 30 for
30 movies and stuff. So it should be on Netflix
soon because they seem to put all the 30 for
30s eventually on Netflix. Yeah, and to be honest,
they're probably going to keep playing it for
a while on ESPN. Wait, hold on, ESPN replaying
the same thing over and over again? I don't know
if that's ever happened before. Crazy, right?
Yeah, they're kind of ridiculous with that. But
at least, you know, if anybody wants to watch
it, you get a good chance to watch it. Cool,
cool. And then that sort of leads into the second
one I watched. You know, not really as related,
but kind of took me back to a time in basketball
that I remember. And this particular documentary
was called This Magic Moment. And I watched that
too. Not that long ago. Yeah. And these actually,
I should mention both of these just came out
this year. I believe one was in April and one
was in May. So these are fairly new from this
year. So this one was called This Magic Moment.
It was about the Orlando Magic team of the 1990s.
particularly kind of like the mid 1990s. Obviously
Shaquille O 'Neal, Shaq, Penny Hardaway they
drafted later on and they really built a solid
strong team there and that team really became
like huge for basketball. I know like you know
Jordan sort of propelled the popularity of basketball
Well, really, I think it kind of started with
Magic Johnson and the Lakers and stuff. But Jordan
obviously took it to another level. And then
in the 90s, I think really it's this magic team
that sort of brought a lot of young fans into
basketball, too, because I remember even growing
up as a kid, I remember seeing a lot of kids
with like Orlando Magic stuff, you know, like
everyone. They're a fan and like everyone loves
Shaq because he was like the newest thing, you
know, like the seven foot two guy that could
just like. Break down the backboard and break
the glass He had like his own action figure like
it would came with him with like a blip backboard
that you can like smack It was like smash. Yeah,
there's a button you could push and it would
like really would like break and come down And
then he had a member his own soda with the what
was it called? Somebody the the big something
I forget It was just like it was like a liter
of Pepsi that you would buy by itself because
it was Was it the diesel because I know that
was his nickname too. No, it was something it
was I forget what it was called the big splat.
I forget but it was a It was I remember getting
one as a kid because it's like, oh that's a that's
uh, what shack drank and I remember Uh, I would
go down and walk down the cvs and buy it Uh,
because it was i'm like I didn't I drink like
a quarter of this. I don't know why I bought
this but you know And yeah, that was I was a
huge in the magic. I think even had an anthony
hardy I had an Anthony Hardaway poster and all
that good stuff. So. Yeah, yeah, they they were
huge and it was it was kind of really reached
like beyond basketball into like pop culture
and things like that. I mentioned, like, I think
they they drafted Shaq first. They had him for
I don't know if it was a year or two or something
like that. And then they then they end up actually
know it was the very next year because I think
they got two number one picks in a row in the
draft lottery, which was like crazy and uh The
second year they ended up drafting penny hardaway
and uh, who was like pretty much the best player
in that class Well, didn't they draft? What's
his name? Oh the guy they ended up trading for
hard away didn't they because they got the other
center. Uh, he played for the heat Along the
morning didn't they draft him and then trade
for hard away? Um, no, they they drafted hard
away Um as much as I can remember, um I'm not
sure if morning was after that or before that.
But I remember them talking about drafting Hardaway.
It was kind of like it was Shaq's team and they
brought Hardaway in, but he sort of realized
that he needed this guy to get to where he wanted
to be, get to the championship. Right as they
were building his team, the Bulls had just...
Completed their first three Pete they won three
championships in a row and this was right at
the time where Jordan kind of retired and went
over to baseball for two years, so You have you
know sort of the Bulls taking a step back and
then the Magic taking a leap forward and They
were really good. They were pretty much the cream
of the crop in the NBA Eastern Conference at
that time and They ended up making it to the
finals, but they lost to the Houston Rockets.
And the Rockets won the two titles during that
time that Jordan was off. So they lost to the
Rockets that year. They come back the next year
thinking they're going to be stronger than ever,
but that's the year that Jordan returned. And
then the Bulls won three more championships in
a row. So the Magic, you know, as good of a team
as they built, they never got to win their championship,
which is pretty crazy. We talk about like, you
know, one of the better teams that just sort
of like never got over the hump. They were never
able to win it. Um, and then obviously I think
after that Shaq sort of made the decision because
there was some, there was some heat that was
sort of made up, but like, there was a little
bit of controversy over like whose team it was,
which I feel is like weird because it's kind
of like selfish that they couldn't get along
at the time, but People were saying, well, is
it Hardaway's team or is it Shaq's team? And
I guess Shaq was saying he sort of made the mistake
of assuming how Penny Hardaway felt, that it
was his team. So he's like, I never even talked
to him. He's like, I kind of just made my own
decision. And that's when he went to the Lakers.
And they said, the teammates were saying that
they didn't even know that he went. The Lakers
like he didn't talk to any of them They saw him
on TV holding a Lakers jersey at a press conference
and they're like their jaws at the floor. Yeah
and uh, and then I think Hardaway played for
another year or two and I think he got a knee
injury or something and then he ended up getting
traded to the Phoenix Suns and Um, so the team
just kind of disbanded and they never really
won anything. It's yeah It was it was interesting
because I didn't realize because they have that
series of the The finals against the Rockets
and like they were heavily favored and they came
so close to winning the first game and then Yeah,
was it? uh dianne grant it was missing the foul
shots and then i've never really recovered but
Yeah, so it was I did watch that and then it's
a good good documentary It did bring me back
and I remember like, you know at that era like
I just wanted to go play some NBA Jam. It just
had me in that mode. You may be right about the
hard away thing. I can't remember exactly how
they drafted them, how exactly it worked out.
I remember them getting another high pick in
the lottery, the number one pick again, which
was unheard of. They did get to number ones and
I didn't know if... They got number one and still
went with morning but then ended up trading forget
but I thought they traded to get hard away because
When they got morning, I remember Shaq being
really angry because he was like another center
or something like that, but I could be wrong
It's been it's been like a month since I watched
it and like 20 years since it's actually happened.
So I just want to add to that the Like with the
pop culture thing, do you guys remember the the
little penny? Oh, I remember Little Penny, yeah.
You remember the commercials and stuff? No idea
what you're talking about. Really? Yeah. Oh,
my gosh. I can't believe you don't remember that.
That was like all over the television set, like
back in the 90s. Like every other commercial
is like Little Penny. And it was just basically
this little like this little doll. Sort of like
the little. ventriloquist dolls that Jeff Dunham
has. There's just this little dude, there's a
miniature version of Penny Hardaway and Chris
Rock did the voice and like not many people were
like familiar with Chris Rock yet, but he was
doing the voice of this guy and kind of saying
the things that Penny Hardaway wouldn't say because
he was a really quiet guy, kind of a shy guy.
So, but that I remember those commercials too.
And when I saw it on the show, I'm like, Oh my
gosh, I remember that. Like it totally took me
back there. Yeah, yeah. I remember thinking for
the longest time when I would see Chris Rock,
I'd be like, oh, it's the guy who does Little
Penny. Yeah. I forgot all about that until I
was re -watching it. I'm like, oh, man. Yeah.
Very cool. Very nice. Greg and others, we apologize
for all the sports talk today, but hey, it happens
on occasion. But Greg, I know you watched something
that wasn't sports related. At least I don't
think so. You want to talk about it? Yeah, sure
mine wasn't really sports related there was a
little sports reference to the New York Yankees
yuck I don't watch baseball, but I still know
I don't like the Yankees But I watched Goosebumps
something that should take us back to our childhoods
It kind of did it was a little weird This is
the Goosebumps movie that came out last year
with Jack Black? Yes, correct. Yeah. Jack Black
is still kind of zany himself. It's a little
bit more contained with him. Then there was this
other lady that they brought in, this Aunt Lorraine,
and her character was crazy. I could have done
without her from the word go. She was just annoying,
pain in the ass. Lot of cool references back
to the book and everything, but it's been so
long since I've actually read Goosebumps book
that it made it difficult to keep up with the
references. But overall, it was OK. It was definitely
for people younger than us, but it was it was
an OK watch. The actors the young actors were
actually really great. I thought they they kind
of stole the show Jack Black is just Jack Black
If you've seen him in something else, you're
basically getting what you're getting here So
is it like the old TV show or would take like
a story or is it? No, no, no, no, it's it's they're
bringing all the monsters together. Essentially.
It's The next door neighbor accidentally opens
up one of the books and it releases The Yeti
and then like he kind of knocks over some books
from the shelves and everything And the night
of the living dummy book accidentally gets opened
as well So slappy is that Oh, and it also made
it confusing that Jack Black is acting in the
movie as R .L. Stine. And he's also voicing Slappy,
the main antagonist. So the voices were very
similar between his normal voice and Slappy's
voice. I would have liked to have seen something,
somebody different kind of play Slappy because
it was just too close. It kind of was confusing
like if you weren't paying full attention You
could have got a little bit confused, but otherwise
it was okay CG a bunch of characters I wish we
could have kind of saw more of the characters,
but it was a fun Fun funny sort of horror movie
to go through it was definitely for little kids
though Not that people that actually read the
goosebumps book back in the day. Yeah, so Interesting
that like are all Stein would have those books
and just like not put him in a safe place, you
know He just left them on a shelf they're all
like Individually like locked and stuff, but
it was like why don't you just like bury them
somewhere under? And then afterwards he was manji
game. Yeah kind of which this kind of Felt like
it kind of felt like a whole bunch of other movies
from back in the day, but it It just didn't hold
as much as the other ones for some reason it
didn't grab me as much Was there any reference
to say cheese or die because I was like my favorite
one growing up No, I don't think so Sorry Don't
like I said, I don't remember much and it was
to get the references I kind of went into the
trivia later Which they did kind of a nice little
twist, but I think it was kind of revealed too
early the little twist and Jack Black is like
There are three parts of a book. There's the
beginning the middle and the twist RL Stein is
M Night Shyamalan, so you can relax with the
twist. So it was good. It wasn't the greatest
thing in the world. If you've got younger kids,
they might enjoy it. And so you could watch it
with them. And the parents could make it through
with the kid too. It wasn't like excruciatingly
painful to watch. Like I saw the whole thing.
Yeah, it felt like the Wiggles. It was OK. Yeah.
Yeah, it's not the Wiggles. Any sort of like
was there any seriousness to this role by Jack
Black or was it kind of like goofy and zany?
It wasn't zany there were some like serious moments,
but you get Like the Jack Blackness still comes
out during those serious moments So that's what
I was gonna ask like how did how did he do in
a more serious role? I can't see him like that.
I guess. Yeah, he wasn't like flapping his arms
around like super crazy or anything. It was,
it was definitely a more subdued, uh, Jack Bla,
but there was still the Jack, uh, black isms
in there. Cause, uh, the one kid he's, he comes
to the town and he's not RL Stein. He's, um,
it was RL something else. That was the last name.
And so the kids like trying to say, Oh, you're
RL Stein. And he's like, no, I'm not RL Stein.
The kids like oh are all Stein's books are terrible
Stephen King is definitely better than RL Stein
RL Stein is just a Stephen King knockoff and
Jack Black turns around he's like Let me tell
you about Steve Steve King Steve King It's not
has not sold as many books as I have And like,
so you get like this whole Steve King and like
making his name very proper. It felt very Jack
Black to like, yeah, that's that's a movie that
Jack Black would make in a movie. Yeah, he's
done. Well, I have nothing super serious. Nothing
I think of as something like Bernie, which is
also go back to the movie I talked about, directed
by Richard Lanclater, which I think he's. Bernie
is actually is is one of his better roles. I
think Bernie is is better than Goosebumps Yeah,
I like them a lot in School of Rock. I haven't
seen that surprising which was also directed
by Richard Linklater But I have not seen school.
Yeah a School of Rock is is is pretty good. Yeah
School of Rock is better than Goosebumps Welcome
to better than Goosebumps I'm getting the hierarchy
down now for like where that is All right. Well
anything else before we take a quick break and
come back and do our sitcom draft Nope. All right.
Well, when we come back, we are entering into
the world of the draft. The NBA draft is actually
going on as we speak. So in spirit of that, we're

right, and welcome back. And yes, today, inspired
by our, you know, with everything going on in
the NBA draft. And, you know, it's about about
that time again. We're going to be doing the
sitcom drafts if you never listened to one of
our drafts before it's pretty simple or go around
Starting with this time Chuck will be going first
then Greg then myself Picking a character out
of something in this case sitcom. So any character
that was any any sitcom We're gonna have five
rounds and we once a character is picked that
character is gone and off the board at the end
once we have collected our entire team we will
then explain what our sitcom using all those
characters would be what would be called you
know what would be called and what the premise
of it would be and then at geocastreader .com
i'll be putting up a post geocastreader .com
will be putting up a poll that you can vote in
to declare which sitcom and who truly won the
sitcom draft of 2016 so Chuck, you're kicking
us off. You have the first pick in the draft.
You are the 76ers of this draft. I apologize.
I guess that's an insult. No one's that bad.
But who are you going with with your first pick
of the draft? OK. I have a lot to pick from,
obviously. We're pulling from the entirety of
TV land and all the old and new TV shows. But
I think I'm going to go with something that uh
I would be afraid of someone else picking um
and I don't think many of my other characters
have that threat so um I am going to select the
only reason I think Greg would be the one to
take this so if he's not it'd be safe but I'm
gonna select Colonel Sherman Potter from Mesh
Going old school right after I did not pick him.
He's not even on my list, but I know you like
mash I was afraid that you might be there there
was a mash character on my list of characters
Yeah, so if I am going to play plead ignorant
with with this one who who exactly who plays
that actor in their show? Well, you caught me
at a loss. I wasn't Alan Alda or anything like
that. No, it's it's Harry Morgan Okay. Yes. Yes.
Yeah, Alan Alda was a Hawkeye Pierce Yeah, this
guy's Harry Morgan. He was in some other stuff,
but obviously... Aftermash? Well, he was actually
in a... What's the one old -time cop show? Oh,
um... Dragnet? Dragnet, yeah. Yeah, he was in
that. He was also in a couple Western movies.
There's the one that my dad likes to watch. It's
a comedy with... Oh, what's his name? He was
in that crappy... no no maverick maverick think
maverick oh yeah yeah tom cruise no maverick
as in uh the western movie maverick or the tv
show back in the day maverick the guy he just
passed away recently yeah he was in that crappy
Yes. Now I forget what the hell we were even
talking about. All we do is get on tangents.
All right. So again, who did you pick for your
first pick, Greg or Chuck? I picked the character
of Colonel Sherman Potter from MASH. All right.
So we got him off the board, going old school
to start off with. So that's interesting. All
right, so Greg, it's moving on to you. You have
Sherman Potter off the board, actually from one
of your favorite TV shows. But who are you going
with with your first pick? I'm going with kind
of a surprise tactic here. And I am going with.
Yeah, I should probably pick him first. I am
going with Mork from Ork. Robin Williams played
Mork from the TV show Mork and Mindy. Wow. I
was not expecting that is. Wow. Starting out
off world here. Yeah, man. We're going old school
gold I feel weird cuz I'm gonna go much newer
school and I have See, I'm looking at two characters
that are from two shows. I know you someone else
watches So I have a feeling they might be taken
so I'm gonna go though with my first one Coming
from one of my favorite TV shows in the office,
and I'm actually gonna go with Dwight Schrute
really Wow, I did not I did not expect that did
I screw you up majorly No, he was kind of my
protagonist in this whole thing. I'll have to
think it over keep going All right Well a good
thing I went with him because I thought of anyone
that would because I know you let's watch the
office as well So I'm gonna go with white fruit
as my first pick. Oh, man. All right How does
that happen? You know, it's like a trillion different
TV shows yet. We still have somehow pick Choices
from one another. All right Great minds great
minds. All right, great Chuck bringing you back
over to you We're gonna we're not doing the snake
draft where I do twice to make it easier We're
just gonna go from you know gonna do it the old
NFL style So bringing you back to you for the
second round who are you picking for your second
pick? second pick is another The classic show
that probably more people have seen It's a little
more I guess a little more new school, you would
call it. But, um, this is from not, I wouldn't
say this is really one of my favorite, uh, say
comes honestly, but this, this character in particular
fits into what I want to do. Um, and I do the
intro, the show and the show is that 70 show
and the character I'm going to select is Red
Foreman. Really? Wow. Interesting. Yes. Again
and not an unexpected choice. I'm surprised.
I was you know, I thought at least one character
from home improvement would be taken by now So
you keep keeping you on your toes there, you
know, you keep you guessing so yeah, I man remember
that 70 sure that's a sure like I liked but I
almost forget all about that for some reason
but yeah, I Like I watched it from time to time
Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of it at all.
Like there's there's actually some parts about
I really Don't care for and but once a little
great while see it on I'm gonna watch it But
I've always liked the character a red form and
I thought he was pretty interesting. So played
by Kurt would Smith he was in some other movies
I think most notably the original RoboCop movie,
but he was great in that he was a great villain.
He was awesome Yes, he was actually he was really
good. Nice. Nice. All right So he is off the
board now Greg moving back over to you. I've
always already stolen Dwight truth for me. Are
you going to steal somebody from me? Hopefully.
No, probably not. I'm going to go with the tick.
Damn it. By the action of the tick. Yeah, I figured
you wouldn't pick that. I forget the guy that
plays it, but he's the guy that deep voice. He
voices a lot of stuff. He sees on family guy.
How's it going, Peter? And so I am picking the
tick that's it's an awesome show by the way if
you haven't seen it It's it was only on for like
a season season and a half something like that.
They're bringing it back But with different people
which is kind of disappointing. Yeah It is but
check out the original stuff. It's really good.
That's that's the same guy. It was Like you mentioned
he does the gang family guy, but he was also
on Seinfeld and a couple of things. Yes. Thank
you Patrick Yeah named podcast today. All right.
Well, I was actually kind of scared You might
take this guy cuz I I know I know you watch the
show as well if I'm not mistaken It's kind of
related to the office and it's very you know,
similar creators similar format So I have Dwight
Trute and I go with you knows an actor that we
love here with Chris Pratt and gonna go with
Andy draw Dwyer But more specifically his alter
ego Burt Macklin Did I take another one from
you you didn't I just I was curious, because
one of these weeks we had to do another homework
episode and I'm going to try to get Chuck to
watch Parks and Rec, because I think he might
like it. The first season... Yes, I think I will
too, actually. I got to power through the first
season, but after that I think it gets quite
good. Especially once... Nick Offerman? Not Nick
Offerman, but man, it's like this is the worst
naming podcast ever. We come Adam Scott which
Adam Scott comes. I think it in Rob Lowe. It
gets a lot better They come in like season. Is
it is it like direct TV Rob Lowe or the cable?
I think it's which one's better. Is it direct
TV is a bit the better one. So yeah Yeah, I would
go with our TV. So Chuck you so far you have
a character from mash and I already forget his
name Sherman Potter and you also have read Foreman
from that 70s show. I I'm really interested with
what's going next two unexpected choices you
go unexpected for your third choice well this
one would probably be uh i guess a little bit
unexpected but i'm sure you guys were expecting
me to pick this this actor of anyway the actor
is of course tim allen but it's not the character
of tim taylor from home improvement um it's actually
from another of his shows that i'm a huge fan
of called last man standing and his his character's
name in that show is mike baxter Ah, the curveball,
the infamous curveball. Yes. Don't get me wrong,
Homebrewman's my favorite comedy show of all
time. But what I'm trying to do here, this fits
in a little bit better in the, this is, I think
he's kind of like a little bit more, I don't
know what you would call it. Like he's a little
bit more sassy and like quick witted in this
newer show. And I like some of the like quick
wit jokes that he comes off with and stuff like
that. And he interacts with other characters
really well. So. Interesting. All right. I have
never seen last man standing, but I've heard
good things. I have my parents like it. They
say it's too political though Yeah, but I like
where it's coming from though, so I'd love it
All right, so we're going back over to Greg you
have the tick and you have who was your first
pick? I forget already Mark from work. You have
more from work. Of course Robin Williams works
more in the tick. Who you going with you with
your third choice? Third choice, I am going Herman
Munster from the Munsters. Wow, Herman Munster
from the Munsters. Well, there you go. I have
an interesting, that's a, I'm curious. Wow. We'll
see where that leads out. We'll see where that
leads. So I'm going to go with, so we haven't
had any ladies chosen. It's been all guys. I'm
actually going to change that up and I'm just
going to go from a show. I don't think you guys
watch, but I would recommend it's actually. quite
good and i didn't have much expectations for
when i came out but actually enjoyed quite a
bit it's probably i know there's a lot of companies
i watch right now but tends to be the one i enjoy
the most and it's from brooklyn nine nine and
i want to go with the character of eric amy san
diego played by melissa for men are all have
been pronouncing that wrong but a uh... greg
i think he wouldn't enjoy her and even if you
would say didn't watch the show uh... but she's
quite funny she's more of a straight -laced character
she's you know in the The typical character of
like she has to do everything by the book She
wants to use like the straight -a student that
needs to impress the teacher, but she doesn't
she does a really good job of it She's quite
funny And it's actually quite an interesting
character. So I want to go with her for my third
choice gonna kind of Yeah, go a little different
directions in my last year But I feel like I'm
going much more old new school than you guys
are I did not and I'm not diving as deep But
with that truck you're gonna dive in even deeper
with your fourth choice I'm going to reel it
back a little bit and go a newer show, a much
newer show, more recent. That's probably not
a huge show, but at least people should recognize
the name of it. And the character I'm going to
select, number four, is Carl McMillan from Mike
and Molly. Again, a show I've never watched.
I've never watched it either. This is a great
show. I'd highly recommend this show. Obviously
you have Melissa McCarthy. plays the wife of
the other guy, Mike Biggs. Well, that's the character's
name, Mike Biggs. And this character that I'm
picking, Carl McMillan, is actually his partner.
They're cops in the city of Chicago. And this
is his partner. And I feel like I don't want
to have a show full of... all lead characters.
I need some great supporting characters. And
this guy's one of the greatest supporting cast
members I've ever seen. He just adds incredible
comedy to the show. He's kind of a goof, like
he's smart and everything, but he's got very,
you know, very dry humor. He's kind of quick
-witted. He's got some... Crafty remarks and
stuff like that and little digs that he he throws
at the other guy and stuff like that But they
really get along great and everything so he's
like a tremendous supporting character one of
honestly one of the best that I've Probably seen
and that show actually has a lot of great supporting
characters believe it or not The father -in -law
on the show is pretty hilarious. He plays Molly's
stepfather and he's got this like really kind
of thick Chicago accent and stuff and it's the
guys like hilarious I would highly recommend
And Mike and Molly if you have never seen it,
I will definitely I don't think it's like streaming
on any sir Like I would be more prompted if it
was like on Netflix or Amazon or something like
that on Hulu Maybe it is I haven't really looked
very cool. So a little bit more new school. So
I'm not I'm not the only person All right, Greg
moving on over to you and I'm Curious what character
or creature you're going with next Next I am
going with I'll go with Somebody did that I didn't
have picked to replace Dwight True, and I guess
I'll go with elf Wow Dwight True and elf so I'm
curious what role that was gonna be playing that
is interesting I used to love elf when I was
a kid me too. I was an elf fan But I had the
stuffed doll and everything like though. I had
a little stuffed doll too. Yeah, and I was like
this was like a Little bit bigger. It was like
two or three feet tall like the actual size or
whatever and I used to like carry that thing
everywhere I remember was always being freaked
out there when you would see his legs. It's something
about it seemed weird. Yeah Well, actually just
recently the the actor that was in the costume
for Alf just passed away. Oh really? Yeah I think
it was about a week or two ago. And the funny
thing was, for so many years, I always thought
it was a puppet. I had no idea there was a guy
in the suit. The entire time? Yeah. And the reason
I thought that, because he was always behind
a table or a countertop or something. So I'm
like, oh, it's just a puppet. Because it's the
perfect hiding thing to hide the person that's
controlling him. But there actually was a guy
in there, I guess. And he was... once touted
as the shortest man on earth, I think he was
two foot nine. Yes. And he was he was in the
soup. But unfortunately, he passed away recently.
I think he was like in his seventies, like 76
years old or something. Oh, wow. Man, I had no
idea. I thought it was a puppet the entire time.
That's weird. Yeah. Yes. Interesting. Alright,
wow going with elf. I didn't try to bring that
back for a short period of time, too Yeah, they're
they're always trying to bring it back. There's
one. There's like a movie wasn't there Greg like
a made -for -tv movie or something. I Don't remember.
I know there was like a cartoon with elf and
then there was a cartoon little movie with him
and like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and
it was like a PSA after After school special
kind of thing. Yes, there's 1996 project elf
TV movie Yes, that's what I thought and I think
he if I'm not mistaken The government finally
finds out about him and I think they like capture
him and try to like do tests on them and stuff
like that Yeah, it's kind of weird. All right,
well Alf going next. All right my next pick.
So I have Dwight Schrute. I have Andy Dwyer I
have Amy santiago from brooklyn 99 from a number
four gonna go with another current show. I actually
I guess has just recently ended You know six
seasons in a movie or seven seasons in the movie
going with one of my favorite characters from
community Who's kind of come on almost like a
geek icon in the last few years and that's Obed
from community Which is I don't think I sure
you guys have watched if I'm not mistaken No,
but I would watch it for Alison Brie. There you
go Alison Brie and then you have Julian Jacobs
as well. So, yep. I have no idea what you guys
are talking about. It was like me during the
basketball talk. I know I was picturing you doing
random things during that whole basketball. I
was picturing you like with the mic on mute,
like trimming your fingernails and like doing
random things. I was sketching the entire time.
That's fun. All right, very nice. All right moving
up. This is the lot while we were going through
this quite quick So that was round four. This
is around five our last pick. This is kind of
where things come together. Maybe perhaps we'll
see You have one more choice chuck you have One
more person left On your show who you're gonna
go with well, I am going to drop an absolute
bomb here I'm telling you. Nobody's gonna see
this coming. This is gonna be like a Drop the
mic moment, walk away. You guys are not going
to see this coming. My fifth and final selection
for my character is Sophia Petrillo from The
Golden Girls. Really? Wow. Yes. Man, not Bea
Arthur? Come on. No. I think Estelle Getty stole
the show on Golden Girls there. If you're not
familiar with that, she was the the oldest one
that played Dorothy's mother. She was always
very sassy and had the best comebacks and everything
and always busting chops on all the other characters.
She was hilarious. I always thought not that
I'm a huge Golden Girls fan, but I've seen a
few episodes and I always thought her character
was hilarious. I thought she did an awesome job
with it and she was one of my favorite. Female
comedic actors and she wasn't even the oldest
one in real life, right? She was like younger
than some of the other people if I'm not mistaken
Um, I'm not sure she was up there. Yeah, she
I know she was like I think she was born in like
1923 or something. She's yeah Wow, that is that
is a drop -the -mic moment and but just make
sure you don't break a hip while doing it I guess
Thank you for being a friend. All right. Well,
well last time Greg, I jokingly said creature,
but then you went out. So I guess maybe what
character or creature are you going with this
to this pick for your last pick? I am going with,
did I do that? Uh, with Steve Urkel from Family
Matters. You say that, but I'm going to go with
Balke from Perfect Strangers. Interesting. Well,
I've gone no new school the entire time, you
know rather newer shows that have been recent
and I'm actually gonna I'm gonna continue that
I'm gonna I'm gonna finish that off with another
show that we've talked a lot about on this podcast
a few times and I think we actually got Chuck
to watch a few episodes and that's up from the
league and I'm gonna go with taco from the league
Well, maybe one of the most random characters
of all time so That is my team. So now that we
have our five characters, the question is, well,
what does that mean? It's one thing to put all
these characters together. What type of show
are we going to create out of it? So, Chuck,
I'm going to start with you. And I think I have
an idea, but I'm not certain. What exactly are
your five characters going to be doing on your
sitcom? Well, my show is going to be sort of
an outdoorsy based show. Could be something a
little bit similar to Parks and Recs. I'm not
entirely familiar with that show, but also very
similar to Last Man Standing, where they're sort
of very into outdoorsy stuff, fishing and stuff
like that. I guess the basic premise of my show
and the way the characters are laid out. I'm
going to have Mike Baxter, who is the Tim Allen
character. Him and Red Foreman are... best friends
that go way back. They went to school together
or what have you. And they love to go fishing
together and hang out at the local diner. And
they always have a couple of fishing partners
with them. Colonel Potter is actually Mike Baxter's
father in the show. He's much older, I think
age would fit well. So he's kind of his like,
you know, kind of wise older, you know, upbeat
sort of wisecracking father. And as Greg knows,
Colonel Potter always had some terrific phrases
and sayings and stuff like that and a lot of
like old timey sayings. And most of them were
pretty funny. So I think that would work like
perfectly in there to kind of have like some
dad wisdom with like these old time sayings and
stuff like that. So he's in there as that. And
then I have Carl from Mike and Molly. I have
him actually As a Red Foreman son -in -law that
he sort of like get alongs Gets along with but
in my mind there has to be someone there for
Red Red Foreman to call a dumbass so If you if
you watch that 70s show, you know, he's always
calling people a dumbass Eric and all of his
friends and stuff. So I think Carl from Mike
and Molly the way the way he acts he's different
Only a stand -up guy is a good guy at heart and
I feel like he would get along with him But he
does a lot of like goofy stuff like, you know,
he can't find a girlfriend He can't find a house
and stuff like that in Mike and Molly so he's
always doing these like weird things to sort
of to sort of like Make himself look more appealing
or make himself more available and things like
that Like he kind of has these like crazy like
ideas and schemes and stuff and I feel like that
would be some good stuff for for Foreman to kind
of make fun of and call him a dumbass and stuff
like that. And then finally, I think a character
that would kind of like be a great supporting
character as well as Sophia from Golden Girls.
And I have her as sort of in a dual role as the
owner of the diner they like to go to and also
the owner of the tackle shop that they go to
before fishing and stuff like that. And I think
her personality, just the way it was in Golden
Girls, just like constantly, you know, sassy
and busting on people, like, you know, pretty
much never serious, you know, like always there
with like some sort of comment to like basically
bust someone's ass, you know, like to just kind
of like get to dig in at them, just kind of make
fun of them, stuff like that. I think honestly
that would mix perfectly with Foreman's personality
they could kind of jive back and forth a little
bit and also I think with the with the a little
bit of similarity in age there with uh with Colonel
Potter I think they could kind of have like a
little bit of a like a an interesting dynamic
going back and they're kind of like uh you know
busting on each other maybe like bordering on
the line of like flirty sort of which would kind
of be which is always kind of I feel like sort
of a cutesy type of thing if you see like old
people kind of uh talking like interacting like
that being a little flirty like make sure we
don't cross over the line into creepy or anything
but or you never want to get creepy yeah yeah
right but i think those uh two characters would
interact really well i think you know potter
and sofia and i think also foreman and sofia
so i just think like i have a really good uh
mix of characters for what i was looking to do
and uh I think they could all sort of feed off
of each other and actually work really well.
Like I mentioned before, if I were to rank my
favorite sitcom characters, they would be nowhere
near this list. You know what I mean? But to
be honest, like if I was putting something together
like this, these all just kind of made sense
to me and fit really well together with taking
into account the character's personality and
the actor's talents and things like that. So
I guess. I'm not sure of a title. I didn't really
come up with a title, but maybe you could come
up with a later on or something, but something
catchy. Something catchy. There you go. That's
it. Because it's a fishing show, something catchy.
Right. There you go, Dan. You're on top of things.
Perfect. All right. So interesting. I think that
does work out pretty well. That's the key because
you can get A -list characters from sitcoms,
but they all don't really, you know, you can't
have, like you said, you can't have all... None
every tribe can I forget the saying basically
not everyone can be the main characters I think
it makes sense to try to fit it out the way it
did very cool too many chiefs not enough Indians
there you go That's what I was going for. Yeah.
Yeah Perfect. All right, Greg. I am I am really
intrigued about what you're doing here cuz uh
No with your alf and your ticks and you know
your your monsters. I am curious. What exactly
what show are you creating? I am creating a very
geeky show since this is a geek podcast. I've
got a geek comedy show going on Alf has gone
crazy and is trying to take over the world and
his his his Igor to his dr. Frankenstein is Urkel.
He's kind of enslaved Urkel to help him take
over the world. But Mork from Ork is not having
any of it as he forms his own superpower team
with the very strong Tick and very strong Herman
Munster along the way. So a lot of hijinks are
going. You've got the two intelligent characters
of Mork from Ork and Alf, both aliens going at
it, but both very intelligent. If Mork's not
as little goofy. But then you've got Urkel that's
kind of messing things up for Alf all the time.
He's like, did I do that? And you got your two
strong guys that are freaking hilarious, kind
of dopey, along with Mork. So they're kind of
like craziness going on. But Alf is trying to
grab command, eat all the cats, and take over
the world. Man, I would love to see an evil Alf.
That'd be amazing. That'd be good. That would
be interesting. Do you have a do you have a title
now or do you also go? I I didn't know we needed
a title Sorry, we didn't need a title just you
know, if you had one, you know, I did I didn't
have one No, I didn't know we needed one interesting.
All right. Well My I feel not nearly as creative
as what you guys did So my show actually surrounded
goes based upon kind of starts with the character
of Amy Santiago as I mentioned she comes from
the character the show Brooklyn 99 and In that,
she plays very straight -laced. Officer, but
in this show the idea is for whatever reason
she actually gets kicked off the force She's
no longer a police officer, but she still wants
to fight crime in her own way So she puts out
an ad in the newspaper or online asking, you
know to try to create her own Basically, you
know neighborhood watch or citizens group to
help fight crime in their own way And of course
who another other than shows up then you have
Burt Macklin himself of Andy Dwyer because he
is takes charge he likes to be that hero he sees
the opportunity and wants to do that who else
but Dwight Schrute a volunteer sheriff or a volunteer
police officer at the local station already again
another opportunity he's a type of character
who likes to try to you know basically you know
he loves the opportunity for any authority whatsoever
so he sees he's the chance of doing this and
Abed from community for those that don't know
occasionally he also plays He was the cosplay
as Batman dressed up as Batman do the voice and
fight crime So you have him joining in as his
Batman character or being a very meta character
very geek character that's we're gonna get a
lot of your geek jokes from and then finishing
off is taco from the league who just shows up
because He's taco, you know, he's he's the wild
card who almost is a pseudo Sherlock Holmes with
all the crazy stuff he can actually do in his
like Homeless net his homeless network of people
that he has and all the information. He's like
the voice on the street So they've they come
and what I basically be calling it would be a
neighborhood or sorry a citizens police force
would be the name of it citizens police force
and I think it'd be interesting to you have Amy
Santiago is kind of your leader, but you know,
you have Dwight Schrute always trying to try
to good over her. You would have Dwight Schrute
and Andy Dwyer. There would be a partner group
with them. And I would love to see some conversations
between, you know, those two characters. It'd
be a different, you know, a different dynamic
than the dynamic of like someone like Jim from
The Office and Dwight because, you know, they're
more in the level playing field and they can
try to get along and they're almost, you know,
they're similar but very different. Andy Dwyer
is much more positive and Dwight's Much more
negative, but he's smarter in some way. So But
I think there'd be some interesting dynamic there
Then also talk hill with odd bed who are two
of the most random characters in the history
TV Just they would be talking in two different
languages But it might be actually kind of funny
to see them trying to interact with one another
and I think you're you need someone who's straight
-laced You're not straight lace, but your straight
man your straight woman who was the one that
they can bounce joke off of the person who's
the the foundation of reality, who would be Amy
Santiago. So it would also be a woman led show
too. She would be like the, the, the linchpin
of it. You know, she'd be the one who would be
leading the charge with this crazy band. It's
a brand of people. So, uh, it would be almost
like, uh, imagine like a TV version of police
academy, but, uh, a little bit, not a slapstick,
a little bit more, uh, fighting fine tuned in
that, but that'd be my idea. Again, it'd be,
uh, citizens police force. Or yeah, I don't know.
And less crazy noises and voices and stuff. Yeah,
I know. What was that guy's name? Michael Wilson?
Yes, yes. You might get Michael Scott to the
guest star and do his impression of Michael Wilson.
Right. That would work out well. Yeah, you could
have a lot of people guest star. There's a lot
of different ways I want to go with it, but I
felt like those... Mike, the characters that
I chose, minus Tako, all have this desire to
be the hero of some sort, or fight crime, or
be something. So I figured they would all work
together as a force fighting for the good, even
if it is petty crime, that you would stop it
for a neighborhood watch. I thought it would
also be a good situation where you could come
up with new stories each week that would help
keep it from being stale. I think I came up with
a title for mine. Oh, yeah. Just going to keep
it short and simple. People can remember. I'm
just going to call it casters. Nice there you
go, and it works for this this episode because
that's what we're doing. We are casting Right
casters very good. So the question is who came
up with the best sitcom and you guys have the
opportunity to vote by going to be castrated
calm coding episode poster talking in circles
and clicking on the pole to vote who you felt
really walked away with this draft as the winner

We'll see you next week. I actually thought actually
he crossed my mind He's like a goofy kind of
character but I didn't think he would fit extremely
well with my stuff I did love Family Matters
though that show was freaking awesome I also
had a rando of Do you guys remember Step by Step?
I do Cody Lambert? Yeah I don't remember. I liked
the blonde on that show, the bitchy blonde. I

guy with the surfer dialect? Yeah. Yeah, dude.
What's going on? Yeah. All right. He was in the
