About this Episode

The crew debuts a new game testing their knowledge of actors' most famous work by IMDB rankings. Greg shares a painful story about a clip-and-climb accident at a sports complex, Chuck discusses a scientific study ranking superheroes by physics feasibility (with Superman coming out on top), and Dan reviews the Warcraft movie.

Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening

to the geek cast radio network You are now on

the inside of what I like to call the circle

of trust You're all connected in a great circle

of life You know something Bert I think you and

I are going in circles It feels like we're going

in circles. The circuit is now complete. When

I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the

master. Because it's a circle. Yeah, we heard

about the circle. Yes, we're familiar with shapes.

Hi, this is Chuck. This is Greg. And this is

Dan. And we are Talking in Circles, brought to

you by the Keycast Radio Network. best known

for being a podcast. Today we are debuting a

new game that we're gonna get to. In our second

half, it's gonna basically be a trip down the

world of IMDB and seeing if we know our actors

and actresses as well as we think we do. But

before we get to that, how's the week been going

for you guys? Painfully. Is it because you're

possibly a Cavaliers fan and they are, as we're

recording this right now, possibly going to be

losing the NBA Championship? Don't care for basketball,

care even less for LeBron James. He seems kinda

douchey. So, no. No, no, I was actually on a

trip this... past couple of days with my boss

starting on Sunday. And it was kind of a business

trip because we went to this photography kind

of convention about volume sports photography.

Which is like taking a whole bunch of little

kids photos and processing out a lot of them

and everything But they had a bunch of different

activities. We were at this big kind of sports

complex Down near Lancaster. It was called Spooky

Nook Which one random lady said was Amish Speak

kind of for a slang for vagina Which is weird.

Amish have slang? I want to know more about Amish

slang. That's amazing. Yeah, but one of the things

they had set up is that you could do a thing

called a clip and climb and you could sign up

for that as soon as you got there. What's a clip

and climb slang for in Amish? That sounds like

a... Sounds like, I don't know. Go up behind

the barn and go for a little clip and climb.

That's trying to have sex with a horse. That

really kind of works, but... Actually, clip and

clop. Yeah. But anyway, um, but, uh, I signed

up for the clip and climb trying to be a little

bit more adventurous and everything, uh, not

have sex with horses, but try and, uh, uh, you

essentially clip in to this harness and try and

climb these walls, but instead of like a normal

wall climb, uh, where they just have made up

different kinds of hand grips. And the one that

I, I have hurt myself on is one with like PVC

elbow joints for, or for pipes. And so I was

trying to climb up that. My hands are sweaty.

I can't hold on. And so I fall off of it. You'd

normally no big deal. You just kind of go into

a seated position to fall down and it'll like

let you descend because you're hooked up to this

rope and everything. Which it helped me glide

down to the ground nicely. But my feet landed.

The rest of me still decided to go anyway. So

I like fell backwards. and then kind of also

went to the side. So I had like kind of two angles

of momentum kind of carrying me there. And if

I fell straight back into the ground, no big

deal, I just tumbled. But instead... uh my ribs

went right for uh one of these elbows poking

right out of the wall and so i slammed into it

hard my boss was watching me and he cringed as

i like hit and i held onto my ribs for a little

bit i'm like oh that's gonna gonna bruise it

didn't especially like i was down for like minute

but it was no big deal I kind of shook it off

and then hung up my clip and climb gear because

I was done with that because that was enough

for me because I was doing especially well but

later that night I'm in bed trying to get some

sleep a little bit tossing and turning I toss

one particular way and ow really hurt I had to

bite my finger to stifle out a cry I felt a wave

of nausea come over me. So I wanted to get out

of bed quick to get to the bathroom so I didn't

puke all over the bed. So I got up, started to

walk to the bathroom, became very light -headed.

I tried to get down on my hands and knees so

I wouldn't fall. Apparently didn't get there

fast enough because my knees hurt and I crashed

the ground. I bumped my nose doing it because

I have a nice little cut there and it's becoming

a little black and blue now and a little inflamed.

And then I also have a brush burn on my cheek

from it. But I passed out as I'm waking up. It's

kind of like a little shaky and everything from

the passing out and I'm getting climbing up trying

to get myself up. There's a little... Spot of

blood on the tile floor my boss comes running

over because he woke up because he heard me fall

on the ground and of course he's in his Just

in his underwear and like a t -shirt. So that

was a lovely sight. Was it ready for? No, it

wasn't a grip and grab but he came over he didn't

have his glasses on so he stepped in my little

spot of blood there as he trying to figure out

what was going on with me. Eventually, he's like,

OK, we got to get you an ambulance. But first,

I kind of climbed into the bathroom for a little

bit because I wasn't too, too bad. But anything

a little that I did, like it was just flared

on my side. So I went and went back to the bed

after trying to attempt to in the bathroom, which

I didn't have to throw up eventually. I was fine.

I didn't throw up at all. Tried to go number

two that hurt trying to push something out a

lot eventually I just returned to the bed and

kind of laid down ambulance showed up and I got

carted off in an ambulance and Went to the hospital

got some x -rays done yeah, they they took the

x -rays and I Didn't break anything. There's

nothing broken and they really didn't see anything

But the doctor said that didn't mean there wasn't

like a fracture there, like a very hairline fracture.

But he thinks it's just a really bad contusion

and like I must have hit a pain receptor or something,

like pinched something there. And that kind of

caused me to pass out from the pain, I guess.

But yeah, I'm moving very slowly, not lifting

anything. They don't really give you any fun

drugs for that. It's just a higher dose of ibuprofen

No and put some heat on there because there's

no way to like Wrap it or anything like that.

So I kind of just being careful Walking around

that to me sounds like a lot of workers comp

right there, right? I mean, I wasn't technically

working there. So It was didn't fall under workers

comp, but I'm just you I don't know have you

been taking the week off basically here Well,

we were down there until Wednesday and I came

back around was back in the area about four or

five Wednesday So I was kind of out Most of the

week anyway, but I did work today because it's

not like my job is that strenuous weren't moving

around a lot I won't be moving anything. I'm

usually the one that moves everything. I'm the

the the goat that gets to carry stuff all around

the shop, but This week in a couple weeks. I

don't have to carry anything Yeah, that sucks.

So you you failed your first Danger Room sequence.

Yes, I did. Very badly. Wow. Yeah, it was not

fun. I was one of three people that kind of went

down. This other guy was playing some kind of

like soccer, but they had like those big rubber

inflatable balls that kind of went over the top

of them. They could slam into each other without

that much damage. That sounds painful too Yeah,

it's it's like something you do it like like

in between innings at a baseball game like And

so he he like sprained an ankle or something

so he was going around in crutches and then the

wife of the guy that was running the thing we

wouldn't read a minor league baseball game and

she got hit by a foul ball as she was walking

out of the the stadium and she uh she got hit

in the knee by a baseball so that didn't sound

like so like yeah this is probably the most dangerous

trip to amish country in the history of the world

probably unless you run into the amish mafia

what if they even exist i don't know what that

was on the one yeah i think that was real i think

it was just like this thing they created for

a tv show but Okay, man, man that is a rough

rough weekend cheese Yeah, so a lot of pain.

Hopefully, you know what? Luckily, we will provide

you some ear therapy through podcasting So it

will be your your your drug to make you feel

better. So there's that hopefully so hopefully

I guess we don't make you laugh because I could

There you go old -fashioned that way did you

at least get any cute nurses phone numbers or

anything at the hospital? Neither if my nurses

were cute The doctor who was male was about the

cutest thing there. Uh, so that's, no, they said,

oh, Dr. Fox will be in shortly with you. I'm

like, Fox got a doctorate, please. Well, yeah,

but they took it away after Ninja Turtles. Wow.

That's, that's crazy. Well, glad you're glad

you're on the mend then Greg. Thanks. Yeah, I

have to sleep on one side. I've been putting

heat pads on myself and everything Does they

tell you how long like that's what's a recovery

time on something a lot of weeks? Weeks that

add up into like a month or two. I believe not

being sure if it's Fractured or not if it's if

it has a hairline fracture it might take a little

bit when you one of those big body casts No,

that would have been kind of interesting you

can start drawing on now No It's it's just kind

of open to the air the weird thing is I don't

have any kind of bruising there whatsoever It

just looks like the hairs covering it that problem

may take it. Yeah, the hairs covering it. Thanks.

I Took a picture of my take a couple days I took

a picture of my face is sent it to you guys and

Dan had my favorite response of With the little

cut that I have on my nose. Did you get in fight

with a tiny ninja? Yeah, you know it did it looked

like you just had one little it's like, you know

many ninjas They are they are a plague on this

world. So you never know when they're coming

So interesting. Well, well, hopefully Chuck you

had a less painful weekend, but I know you you

did We were talking a little bit this on twitter,

but you did pull up a pretty interesting article

or scientific study that you saw About superheroes

if i'm not mistaken. Yes. Um, this was uh sort

of a study done by I don't know pseudo scientists.

I don't know how credible these people are to

be honest, but um It was it's it's the university

of some word I can't pronounce and I never heard

of so you know, take it with a large grain of

salt. But this story I came across on the website

Comic Book Resources, which if you've never used

that website or heard of it, I would highly recommend

it. They have tons of great news about everything,

comics and movies and TV. But anyway, they had

this article up where they did a scientific study

at this certain university that I can't pronounce

and they basically analyzed all the superheroes

and Sort of tried to make sense of their powers

and which ones would be the most logical which

would make sense which would sort of Obey the

laws of physics the best I guess you would say

and things like that and they kind of had this

system of like pros and cons and You know, they

broke it down and they ended up ranking the superheroes

from best to worst And of course all all super

war heroes weren't included. It was just a select

few I think there's like ten of them that they

that they chose for this in particular and there's

some odd choices to be honest, but Some of your

staples were there of course Superman Batman

Spider -man Wolverine You got Thor in there silver

surfer flash stuff like that, but there's some

oddball ones they had They have mystique thrown

in there. They have the lizard Black bolt they

threw in there which I was kind of surprised

because he's like mostly only known by like some

more hardcore fans, but um And of course, they

also had Iron Man who's a big name and Iceman

and stuff. So that was pretty cool. But um basically

they were going through and listening to pros

and cons and They ended up saying that uh the

best superhero uh based on their abilities and

the reasoning behind you know their powers if

they're actually feasible and stuff like that

they're saying the best superhero would in fact

be superman interesting yeah and for some reason

they came up with this number that seven of his

powers are feasible It's gonna get Trillions

of them. So eventually you'll get to some that

are feasible I'm like, I don't understand like

how any of them are feasible. Like I don't get

that but I guess something that they could calculate,

you know, there was and they have them listed

here like Not the names that we know them by

per se they kind of list them in a more like

more You know fitting with physics and stuff

like that. So they have a power that have high

velocity motion high energy output explosive

powers efficiency like energy efficiency Ability

to travel safely was a big There's tons of airbags

in the car Ability to exert great force things

like some of the heroes have regenerative capacity

immunity to diseases and things like that Protective

exoskeleton or things like that durability and

stuff, but it was interesting like very low on

durability They they have like like I mentioned

Superman first and as Dan mentioned when I tweeted

this out he responded that it seems like they

severely underestimated Silver Surfer. And they

did because they really all they meant about

him was, and I should add on this, that they

sort of went by the movie versions of the characters.

They didn't really go by the comic book versions

and all their powers like that. So it's pretty

much like what you've seen in the popular movies.

So with Silver Surfer, all they talked about

was, you know, ability to draw energy from his

surfboard and they did some calculations with

how he was able to push back Dr. Doom in the

second Fantastic Four movie. So they calculated

the distance that he pushed him back and they

calculated the power. that would be needed to

generate that force to push him that distance

in jewels or something like that. So they calculated

that. But I'm like, okay, first of all, he doesn't

even get his powers from his board. He doesn't

need his board to have his powers in the comics.

So that was kind of weird. He has the power of

cosmic, he has tons of other powers. So to me,

this whole thing was sort of like... Just a novelty

thing. It was sort of half -assed done if you

ask me Yeah, just sort of another thing to kind

of get clickbait or whatever I guess of accounting

the movies must be counting all the weird power

Superman gets in the second one where he can

just like throw his S shield at people make it

like a net somehow and like at the end of them

You get the magical kiss and making Lois Lane

forget everything so that must be why right and

the ability the ability to determine what color

underwear a girl has on. I'll be honest, a lot

of us want that power. Some guy that I worked

with claimed that he had that power. I'm sure

he claimed a lot of things. Well, he mostly claimed

it on underage girls, so that was a bit weird.

Guys like that usually claim a lot of false information.

But it's cool. Like I could put the link up in

the thing if anybody didn't get a chance to see

it. But, you know, they talk about the whole,

they throw a whole lot of physics mumbo jumbo.

And I took a couple of physics class in college

and it's, I mean, it's definitely stuff that

I recognize, but it's, you know, they sort of,

I don't know what you want to call it. They sort

of like twist it to make the calculations work

and to make things, you know, seem Feasible but

I feel like Iron Man would be the most feasible

because we we've come like now we know we're

close to the movies but like they have You know,

we've seen like certain things that were in the

ballpark of that more so in the ballpark of what

Superman can do Yeah, well the the reason that

the reason that Iron Man got a low score as well

as Batman I'll get to Batman in a second, but

Iron Man got a low score because of they said

judging by the energy that his suit could withstand

and the properties of a vibranium alloy and things

like that, they compared one of the existing

elements that has the same atomic mass as vibranium,

and it's called hasium. And I'm like, okay, yeah,

but it's not vibranium. You're like, yeah, okay,

but it's not that though. You can't just like

substitute that. I mean, yeah, it might have

the same atomic mass, but that's just one variable.

Like it doesn't have any of the absorbing powers

or vibratory disbursement or anything like that.

But anyway, sorry, we're out of milkshakes, but

we will bring you a nice cold glass of tartar

sauce. Right. Exactly. It's like, you know, comparing

apples and giraffes here, so. But yeah, they

said, you know based on the some of the impacts

that Iron Man is taking and some of the energy

that he's able to withstand Realistically his

suit His armored suit would actually have to

be three meters thick Wow to stop those projectiles

Obviously not possible to move around in if it's

that thick because you're talking about what

is that about eight or nine feet thick so But

so I thought that was kind of interesting. I

mean, obviously, Dan, I'm I'm with you just looking

at it from practical standpoint, like technology

that we've we've come from or that we've come

to now. And you know, you see some of these experimental

military exoskeleton things that these people

are using to pick up heavy things and carry heavy

packs and carry other soldiers and stuff like

that. Like that makes sense to me, like. That

they could adapt something like that into an

Iron Man armor, but apparently not at you know

bullshit university So so I was Batman solo was

because no one could get their voice that low

No, they we don't have the technology for bat

nipples yet one day Right what Pete Holmes wasn't

available to do the voice Okay, here we go No,

they said that basically Batman having no superpowers

himself being an ordinary human Even though he's

at peak physical condition for a human when he's

gliding and in some of those scenes They've shown

in the movies remembers the movies not the comics

They calculated his Velocity as he's gliding

and It said it would be somewhere in the range

of 80 kilometers per hour. I don't know how many

miles per hour that is. I'm sorry. But it said

that if he were to actually try to land at that

speed, it would actually be fatal. So there's

no way that he could move around the way that

he does. But I mean, again, that's just one aspect.

If you got the dough, you got the gadgets. I

mean, you know, the Batmobile, the Batplane,

motorcycle, all that stuff. Do you ever see those?

The armor. Do you ever see those, like, people

that are, like, in the flight suits, you know,

that, like, when they jump out of planes and

it's, like, almost like a human flying squirrel?

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the glider suits.

I mean, I would assume that's, like, a long...

I guess they... when they land, they land via

parachute, but I don't know. I feel like... Yeah.

Well, that's what... that's what they... actually

need a parachute for those landings which would

be kind of dorky coming in to save the day hold

on let me just pull my parachute real quick hold

on I just get up I am the knight hold on but

don't yeah stay right there yeah right yeah I

thought that was interesting I thought it would

pick probably you know piss off a lot of Batman

fans thinking that he can't do the simple thing

that He does in every comic, which is kind of

glide over rooftop and then land, you know, in

a combat role or something like that. That would

actually be fatal to him. But, you know, hey,

that's why it's a comic book. But I also thought

it was interesting. They said that Black Bolt

would be the most destructive comic book character

based on their calculations because they... I

guess it was stated in a comic that a whisper

of 20 decibels has this certain energy output

of so many millions of joules or something like

that. And, you know, if he were to scream at

129 decibels and, you know, they scaled it up

and everything and it would said it would be

enough to destroy just something the size of

New York City or something like that and and

if you really like let loose he's capable of

planetary annihilation or something like that,

but So I thought that was kind of interesting.

But again, it's just a whole lot of fudging and

It's interesting that they involved black bolts

since they were mostly going off movie properties

and they don't have I Mean you're kind of like

That's what I mean. They're kind of all over

the place with this study because they're like,

oh, we're sticking to movies, but then they're

reaching for stuff like that. I feel like the

most likely superhero of all the movies would

have to be Rocket Raccoon now. I mean, a talking

raccoon with a giant gun seems like the most

logical thing we would get to. You'd probably

be the one that I would want to hang out with

just because I need that guy's eye. Man, very

nice. what so yeah take it as you may huge huge

grain of salt it's uh again these studies are

kind of dumb i mean it's just basically to kind

of start conversations between people and get

people to start debating and arguing over who's

the best yeah yeah i'm sure yeah i'm sure probably

not like it's superman so using it as like evidence

of that superman's the best but i could yeah

it is but the the math says a little you know

being an engineer myself i like to have good

uh Good things to back up the claim and it's

just in this particular case. It's just not really

there Well, they try it I guess Yeah, we'll fill

that article in the show notes and we can talk

about that Speaking of trying I watched the Warcraft

film that came out recently Don't know if you

guys have seen the trailers for it all or I don't

think you doubt you guys have played world of

Warcraft I know I have not I played it back in

the day where it was not online. It was like

Warcraft 2 or something like that. So way way

way way way way way back when I played a little

bit of it. Have not played it and I have zero

interest in meet me too. Like I don't I don't

know just like hearing what all the time it takes

and the fact of like I'm gonna buy this game

and then I need to buy a subscription to play

it online seems kind of like that seems unless

it seems like a scam but anyways, so I did see

the movie which is getting like it's one of the

most interesting releases recently because it

didn't do great in the u .s. But it like made

a trillion dollars in China like it like broke

every possible record in China because I guess

it's still really popular game there but for

the movie itself like it's directed by Duncan

Jones who I really enjoyed everything he's done

up to this point he did moon and source code

and those really two solid science fiction films

and we know the long history when it comes to

video game movies it's not been great to say

the least with things like Super Mario Brothers

Double Dragon all the Resident Evil movies like

8 ,000 of those but I was hoping that Warcraft

could work and you know being a fantasy film

that it would be enjoyable Again, I'm coming

into it with no idea. I've never played a game

of Warcraft know nothing about it and I After

watching it I'm like I kind of know what people

who have no interest in comic books feel like

when they go watch a comic book movie now because

I Did feel somewhat lost throughout watching

it It felt like a movie that was continuously

referencing things that I was supposed to know

about but had no idea The basic premise of it

is that it exists in this world with orcs and

humans, and the orcs world is dying. So in order

to try to find a home, they enter into the world

of the humans, and there becomes this battle

between the humans and the orcs over this land.

So the plot itself isn't all that complicated,

but there are some more... minutia to it that

doesn't make it rather murky. I think that the

biggest failure of the film though is just that

the characters are not very interesting at all.

They're not memorable. Especially the human characters

because it splits between the human characters

and the orcs and the orc stuff was actually better.

There is a character played by Toby Keble who

has done a lot of motion capture stuff. He actually

was the guy who played Dr. Doom in the most recent

Fantastic Four film. Film and despite that he's

a good actor and he is probably the best part

of this movie But the human actors and human

characters were just so uninteresting and not

very And most of the performances weren't very

good either Paul Patton plays this an orc. That's

like a half human half orc and it's awful it

looks like she's wearing really bad cosplay it's

her performance is so bad right i almost don't

blame her because of just what she had to try

to do to act like she's got these like gigantic

tusks in her mouth it almost looks like you know

when people try to be tend to look like walruses

with putting straws in their teeth it's like

you know the equivalent of that I mean, there

were some interesting acting sequences. I mean,

it wasn't a complete waste. Like I said, the

orc story was at least somewhat intriguing, but

overall it was just rather dull to me. I don't,

I wouldn't say it's like the worst movie ever

or that it's an awful, awful film. I know some

people are calling it like the, this generation's

battlefield earth or like, you know, put it nearly

on the bottom of other failed. Video game movies,

but it's just rather bland and mediocre and we

can't recommend going out to see it it's just

really uninteresting and unremarkable and Nothing,

I think I would ever really remember about it

It wasn't so bad that it was good or enjoyable

just because it was so crazy and it wasn't at

all really all that interesting It was just super

forgettable. So can't really recommend it unfortunately

Do you think? Do you think if you were more a

part of that world and you understood the game

more do you think you would have enjoyed it possible?

I think it certainly Fans may enjoy it because

it it feels like it's so very much leading up

to something else like it's the way it's made

it's it seems like okay this is the beginning

of a franchise remember it reminds me of something

like the golden compass movie that came out and

it was kind of building its world and it leaves

you off thinking okay here's this movie and we're

going to be making tons of more and none ever

came after that and And if maybe if I knew these

characters going in and I had some familiarity

with them and I kind of knew who they were And

seeing them on a big screen it might be more

appealing and it's and it seems like it's setting

the pieces for Different story elements going

forward. I mean if I knew those already because

I knew what was referencing I would like be more

excited about it. But with none of that I just

it just I didn't really care. It was ultimately

I could not care less Yeah, the reason I asked

is because I I know uh someone I work with was

a a big World of Warcraft fan, I guess and They

said they absolutely loved the movie and they

said they kind of disagreed with What all the

critics were saying and everything they they

were like super happy with it and everything

So I was just wondering if like, you know Maybe

it's just the people that are sort of in that

little niche that enjoyed it. It sort of seems

like that Yeah, I mean, I know there are people

who did like it I don't think it's like I said,

I don't think it's void of good qualities, but

if I could get behind those characters and if

I like had some like Something to latch on to

before I even started and maybe I would be able

to enjoy it more but I just was like, yeah, it's

like Unremarkable is the word that comes to my

mind But like I said, I'm not I don't I don't

hate it nearly as much as I saw some people like

land basing anything It's like an awful awful

film. I don't think it's that bad I think there

are some good things there and I think they could

potentially make a good franchise going forward

But it almost feels like, it's only like two

hours and it feels like it wants to be more than

that. Like Lord of the Rings was like super long,

like almost three hours. And I almost wonder

if they, when they were making it, they thought

that's how much time they would have. That's

what they were going for. And then they had to

cut an hour out. So a lot of the pieces that

were missing would have made it a better movie.

But I don't know. I actually saw an interesting

interview. It was one of the most. Unprofessional

critics have ever seen like he was interviewing

Duncan Jones And he was just like basically lambasting

the movie as he was talking to him He would like

ask him questions about like what did you think

here and Duncan Jones would say? Oh, I you know,

this is what I was trying to do and he's in the

guide be like Well, you didn't really do that.

I thought I failed at doing that and Duncan Jones

is credit he was very polite and and it was like

very you know kept upbeat and even though when

the guy was tearing his movie down and then the

guy just walks out on him and interview it's

like that is that was the weirdest thing ever

I guess he was British and then maybe they're

just used to it it's like you're just kind of

you know yeah so was it was it better than the

Fantastic Four movie you know what that's a good

comparison have you guys seen that new Fantastic

Four movie no I still have not so I thought along

the same lines I thought that was a bad movie

but not Nearly the you know, the huge gigantic

failure that it was had potential here and there

so I thought it was you know, not that bad and

then this is what I would say is not that bad

I think I would say I enjoyed Warcraft more just

because I felt at least a visual visually it

was more interesting to me and more unique and

new where Fantastic Four was kind of just Drab

and under like visually was really not all that

intriguing it looked like it was trying to be

something but it just looked like Fantastic Four

with the visuals of the Dark Knight and never

really did anything interesting with that so

yeah so I'd go if I could be like that but and

yeah I could do anything there yeah I was thinking

that's probably be a good comparison but unfortunately

I still have not seen Fantastic Four no fortunately

fortunately you don't really need Yeah, you don't

really need to there's no need honestly, it's

it's not on the old But what we're gonna do right

now is take a quick break and when we come back

we're gonna be playing a new game That should

be fun. So we'll we'll be testing our knowledge

of the all the actors and actresses that we Claimed

to love. We'll see how it goes in just a bit

50 years ago, a little old man brought his little

blue box to a junkyard, and now Dr. Who is a

cultural phenomena worldwide. Join the Geekcast

Radio Network and Mark Who 42's Who -niverse

as we review Dr. Who episodes, past and present,

discuss the Doctor's friends and enemies, See

where the doctor's been, where he is, and where

he's going. Sit back and grab a jelly baby and

join Marco 42's Hooniverse. It's the ride of

this and every other lifetime. Fantastic. Allons

-y! Alright and welcome back and today we are

going to be debuting a brand new game called

best known as and I'll be honest I kind of took

a game that I heard being played on the podcast

Doug loves movies and thought like there's I

like that what they're doing and they forget

what they call it but they call it the IMDB game

or something like that and this is something

similar but it's twisted in a new way so I don't

know if you've ever gone to IMDB but if you do

IMDB for each actor has actor -director has listed

the movies that someone's best known for and

there's there's four of them and it's kind of

weird some of them seem obvious some of them

don't but i think it would be a fun way to create

a game and do something a little bit fun with

all of us because we there's a lot of actors

we tend to talk about more often than that and

this can give us an idea of like how well we

really know them and what people really know

them for so it's called best known as and the

way it's going to work greg and chuck will be

competing against one another feel free to play

uh at home while you listen I'm going to be giving

them two actors, but I'm not going to give them

their names to start off with. I'm going to give

them some random nickname I've created that gives

you somewhat of a hint of who they might be.

Once that they choose their selected actor, I'll

then give them the name of who that person is.

The next step, this is when it gets tricky, is

that they have to try to... guess how many movies

they can name out of their top four. Can they

name one? Do they think they can go for all four?

And after they select how many, they then have

the opportunity. So if Greg, for example, the

actor is Jimmy Stewart, Greg only feels comfortable

that he knows one. So he's only gonna name one

movie if he does and say it's a wonderful life

and that is among his top four, he gets the point.

The trick is Chuck has the opportunity to block

that from happening. So if there are movies left

over, so Greg names one, there's three movies

left over still there to choose from. The person

who's blocking just has to name one out of those

remaining films. So by choosing one, Greg has

a better chance of getting it right because you're

not trying to name three, you're just naming

one. But the bad part is, you're giving your

opponent more movies to choose from to block

you. So that's where the challenge comes in.

If Chuck Nans one out of those three, he blocks

Greg from getting the point, and then it's his

turn. So we'll see how it goes. If you don't

understand it, just listen and maybe you'll get

it as we go along. I promise. Maybe not. Who

knows? So it's... It's kind of like hollywood

squares. So like whoopee gold word. We'll keep

whoopee gold Yeah, it's hollywood squares for

people who can't get anyone to come on the podcast.

So All right And you're but you're ron bergeron.

I I wish I wish I I admire tom bergeron. He's

uh Or tom. Yeah. All right. So I I think uh,

well well greg I think you're gonna start because

last time we did A poll over our four horsemen

and you won that uh, so because of that We're

gonna give you the first shot here. So Whoa,

wait a minute. What's this? I don't recall Greg

winning that poll. Am I wrong? Or was it Chuck?

Greg won. I believe I won that poll. No, Greg

won. I think you're right. Dan already said I

won. I think you're right. Hold on. You know

what? But Greg may still go first. You're right.

Chuck did win. I don't know. I had it written

down where. But since Greg is coming in injured,

he does. I feel like you might have the home

court advantage tonight. He's playing on the

DL, so you got that going for him. So Greg, I'm

gonna give you two nicknames of actors. Your

job is then to choose which one you would like

to go for. The first one is America's Favorite.

That's the nickname I went with, America's Favorite.

The other is an actor with a splitting personality.

Do you wanna go with America's Favorite or the

actor with a splitting personality? I'll go with

splitting personality. Well, the actor with the

splitting personality is none other than John

Claude Van Dam. Damn it. I was thinking Batman

and Two -Face, so I was thinking Tommy Lee Jones.

See, I already got ya. I already got ya. Again,

I apologize for the bad puns and jokes that will

be occurring, but that's how I roll. That's how

I roll. So, question for you. How many movies

out of John Claude's top four do you feel you

can name? One, two, three, or four? Two. I'm

gonna go with two. All right. Well, what two

movies are in John Claude's top four? I'm going

to go with... Kumite... It's not that's not my

guess that's that's the thing that they yeah,

I know yeah, I saw that episode of How does this

get made as well? Yeah a Street fighter, okay

Street fighter that one popped in my head. I

remember that one now Chuck's gonna kick my ass

on this one. I Keep thinking of enter the dragon,

but I don't think that's one Damn it, and they

has another one. That's kind of exactly the same

to Now blood sport blood sport. Well blood sport

is in it in John Claude Van Dam's top four however

She fighter is not Chuck's gonna kick my ass

on this one. It was good guess though. I thought

that might have been popular enough to get in

there So Greg does not get a point there so Chuck

does not get the opportunity to block However,

a little little caveat too since Greg got it

wrong Chuck has the opportunity to steal the

point by naming the remaining three films out

of John Claude Van Dam's top four Chuck, do you

think you can do it? Probably not but I gotta

take a stab I guess Wow Seem a lot of Jean -Claude

Van Damme movies but I don't know which ones

are the most popular with everyone else or what's

the best known for um let me see let me talk

myself through this um we need the music from

uh I'm gonna throw in the music from who wants

to be a millionaire on the bottom make it seem

more tense than it really is yeah like we get

like really intense like He's a lifeline. I'm

gonna call it John Claude Van Damme. He probably

doesn't even remember. It's like Casablanca?

No John Claude, you were not in Casablanca. You

don't know this. Alright. While Chuck's thinking

about it, here's a little fun fact about John

Claude Van Damme. His stunt double actually went

to a high school around here. you went to dunmore

high school which is not that far away from me

it's like five minutes away i did not know that

really i didn't know you're five minutes away

from dunmore so chuck going with your final answer

you got three i i do have three i if this was

a contest to name the most band -aid movies i

could probably win but this is a little tricky

i'm gonna go though i'm gonna go Kickboxer time

cop and hard target good choice Kickboxer is

in his top four our target is not Unfortunately

the other two are universal soldier and double

impact. Oh Double impacts, okay. I was gonna

say in hell, but I guess that wasn't there either

So I have no idea how they figured those out.

There you go. All right, so Splitting personality

no points to Greg and or Chuck. All right, Chuck.

So then you have the opportunity you have America's

favorites or We'll go with Mmm truly boss It's

Tony Danza America's favorite or truly boss.

I Will go with America's favorite well America's

favorite is as in Captain America's favorite

as Haley Atwell Hey, so Haley at well Think you

can what how many of her top film for films.

Do you think you can name? Okay, are these only

I should notice it's hot for so it could be really

anything TV It's a it's weird. It's really anything

that she's been in so we consider that's voiceover

work as well. It could be TV Movies video games

what have you? Gotta be honest. I don't know

her as well as I should for many reasons But

I'm gonna say I can I can name two I think all

right. What two are gonna go with I'm gonna go

with Captain America the first Avenger and Agent

Carter Captain America the first Avenger is correct

agent Carter Is incorrect. Carter is not in her

top four, surprisingly enough. Really? Yes. So,

Greg, you have the opportunity to steal these

points. He's named Captain America, the Winter

Soldier, as one of her films. One of her top

known properties. She has three more. Do you

think you can name them? Probably not. Do I get

points for that? You do not. He's admitting it

that he can't. If you name them... Is your opportunity

to steal Three more movies laughs we have first

class off the board. What else is there? Captain

America first Avenger correct That's the one

that Chuck said Then winter soldier we got two

Ant -man you got three probably It's gonna be

one of the Avengers films, I'm guessing I'm just

gonna go with Avengers one the first one. Yes

So close it was age of Ultron. Oh Man you should

get a point for trying. How are they more than

I don't know. I don't know how this works. It

makes no sense, but She's the lead role It's

a show about her So Greg back over to you You

have truly boss again the points are zero zero

we have truly boss or Let's go with a woman who

should be named I don't know that much about

Tony Danza, so I will go with a woman who should

be named. Well, you do know at least some about

this person, because a woman who should be named,

as in Amelia Clarke, with all of her crazy names,

Mother of Dragons, whatever million things that

she has. So, Amelia Clarke, out of her top four

known things on IMDb, how many do you think you

can name? I wanna go with two, but I don't remember

the name of the movie where she's in. She's playing

opposite a guy that's playing Stephen Hawking.

And I don't remember the name of that movie,

so I'm just gonna go with one. Out of Amelia

Clarke's top four, what one are you going with?

Game of Thrones. That is correct. Game of Thrones

is in her top four. So Chuck... Your opportunity

to the block though. He only went with one, so

that gives you three chances. You have one. All

you need to do is name one out of those three

to block him from getting that point. What else

is Emilia Clarke best known for? I am going to

say Terminator Genisys. Chuck, you should get

out the Ken Bay tumble finger because you just

rejected Greg from getting his point. Yes! No!

That is correct. She is mine! Reader Genesis

is the next one. The other one is Me Before You.

I don't know if that's the one you're thinking

of, Greg. And Dom Hemingway is the other one.

Yeah, I would not have gotten those two. All

right. Going back over to you, Chuck, we have

Truly Boss or a foreign import. Let's go with

Truly Boss. We have Steve Carell as in Truly

Boss. I thought it was Tony Danza. At least we

can understand Steve Carell. How many of his

top four do you think you can name? There's ones

I'm thinking of, but I don't think I remember

the title. I'm gonna go with... I'm gonna go

with three. I'm gonna be a little adventurous

here. Going with three. What three are you gonna

go with? I am gonna go with 40 year old Virgin.

I am gonna go with Anchorman and I am going to

go with Bruce Almighty. But probably 40 year

old Virgin is correct. Unfortunately, Bruce Almighty

and Anchorman are not. They are not in his top

four. Greg, so you have three movies to choose

from. steal the points or sorry I keep saying

movies you have three more best known for for

Steve Carell again it can be TV movies video

games what have you you think you can name them

probably not the office get smart that's incorrect

damn it any any other guesses I don't know why

I didn't say the office what a freaking moron

I am all right the other two are The only other

one I would have said would maybe be... See,

it's tricky. It's tricky. Foxcatcher? That's

a good guess. Actually, the other one is tricky

because you may not think of it. It's Despicable

Me. Because he's just the voice of the main character.

And then Crazy Stupid Love. So those are his

top four. Crazy Stupid Love is actually quite

good. Alright, so still no points on the board.

I think I may have made this a little bit too

difficult. One point could win it. It's like

sudden death. All right, let's go with we have

a foreign import and We'll go with the standard

foreign import and the standard Greg. Which one

do you want to go with? Foreign import is of

course none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I Figured so honored Schwarzenegger How many

movies out of his top four do you think you can

name? It's gonna be tough because he has so many

that he's known for So I'll just split the difference

and go with two What two films are you going

to name? Terminator Twins that isn't correct

Terminator is correct though. There's one off

the board Chuck. You can steal if you can name

the remainder three The remaining three of honors

Schwarzenegger The remaining three. Oh, that's

gonna be tough. Let me see All right, i'm gonna

go with You don't have to say if i'm right or

not after all three i'll just list all three

of them so i'm gonna go with i'm gonna go with

uh Terminator 2 True lies and predator predator

is in a stop four And so it's to a total recall

and pumping iron the other two weren't yeah So

total recall and should have went pumping irons

a strange one. I'm surprised Terminator 2 is

on on there with terminator, but that's whatever

Again, this makes no sense. So Who knows? Alright

Chuck again Zero zero eventually someone might

get a point who knows Chuck already Chuck has

one I blocked you, that's all. So that's as far

as we've gotten. It's a block. It's like it's

like the basketball team game in Big Bang Theory

between Sheldon and Barry Gripkey. Like no one

can score a basket. Let's go with Forever Young

or The Standard. Wow. Trying to think who that

could be. I'm going to go Forever Young. is none

other than Patrick Stewart. Nice, nice. Out of

his top four, how many films do you think you

can name? Sorry, out of his top four, how many

things you can think, again, because this can

be TV movies, what have you. Okay. I would consider

you thinking about how far we've gotten so far,

so. Right. So don't be afraid to go out on a

limb, I guess. What the hell is the name of that?

I know it. I got it. It's right up here. I got

it. I know it. It's gone. All right. I'll go

with three. I'll be adventurous. All right. What

are you going to go with? I'm going to go with

X -Men. Not sure if I should name a specific

one, but I'll just say X -Men. I guess the first

one. And then I would also go with Star Trek

the TV show Captain Picard and then I'll also

go with the Charles Dickens story Christmas Carol

X -Men is in his top four, Star Trek is in his

top four, Dickens is not in his top four unfortunately

Greg you don't have the opportunity to steal

you only need to name two out of his remaining

top four Say don't overthink it Yeah, I'm trying

to think of the Star Trek movies though because

I feel like it's just gonna be them X2 okay X

-Men United and X -Men Days of Future Past correct

What for both yes He's known for a lot of x -men

three x -men in Star Trek the next generation

I was scared because I thought it was going to

be a Star Trek movie. There you go. Greg is on

the board with a point. Yes. All right. So you

had the choice there, right, Chuck? So this is

back over to Greg. So we'll go with the standard

or our unofficial mascot. Our unofficial mascot.

Go with that unofficial mascot of Stephen Amell

from Arrow, because we've talked about that show

more than anything else. Especially when we first

started. Out of his top four, how many things

you can name? I'm going to name... I'll go with

two. Alright, what are you going with? I'm going

with arrow. And I'm also gonna go with Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles, the second one. That is

correct. But Chuck, you do have the opportunity

to steal. There are two remaining in his top

four. Sorry, opportunity to block him from getting

that point. Can you name them? One out of those

two. I will go with... Arrow Season 2. Yeah,

I guess, I don't know. Well, arrows all one,

so just consider it one. Okay. Yeah, I don't

know Don't worry because I don't think anyone

in the right mind would get these the other two

are injustice gods among us the video game Tracy

fragments I have no idea what that is so I See

I thought it was gonna be the flash and Chuck

was gonna say the flash and then it would be

all wrapped up That last one was probably like

his like a high school play Alright, so the unofficial

mascot is off the board All right, well, Chuck,

do some... Greg is on the board with two, but

you have the opportunity here to get some points

for yourself. We'll go with the standard or the

voice. I'm gonna go with the voice, because I

think I might know who it is. Better known as

Kevin Conroy. Oh, no, that's not who I was thinking.

I was thinking Morgan Freeman. I figured that's

why I wanted to trick you a little bit. Sorry.

Did not mean. All right. Out of Kevin Conroy's

top four, how many do you think you can name?

One thing with INDB, they do separate things

out that are like flash and arrow. Those would

be separate or whatever. But out of his top four,

how many do you think you can name? Let's go

with two. All right. What are those two? One

would be Batman the animated series and The other

one I will go with Batman mask of the phantasm

You are correct Batman the animated series and

Batman mask of the phantasm John Wow, Greg, you

don't have the opportunity to block Can you name

one of those remaining two that are in his top

four? Batman Arkham asylum that isn't correct

Back up. Yeah, you were very close though Batman

Arkham City. Oh And the other one is Justice

League All right game is getting the heights

Chuck with one point Greg with two back over

to you Greg. We have the standard or Let's go

with the man with a magnetic personality The

man with magnetic personality that of course

is none other than Ian McKellen Okay, I apologize

for the bad pun again out of Ian McKellen's top

four. How many do you think you can name? I Will

go with three all right getting risky Wow go

ahead X -Men Lord of the Rings The first one

And I'll go with X -Men days of future past okay,

so none of those are in his top four what What?

That is some bullshit. Chuck, do you want to

try? What the hell? I'm going to go with X2,

X1 United. I'm going to go with Lord of the Rings,

Two Towers. Lord of the Rings, the third one.

What is it? Return of the King or something?

The King and. X -Men the last stand Lord of the

Rings return or sorry Lord of the Rings the two

towers is in his top four The rest are the Hobbit

the unexpected journey the Hobbit the desolation

of smog and the Hobbit the battle of five armies

Whatever See that one was tricky. That one was

tricky. Alright, so this is the final round possibly

If Chuck gets this right, we will go to a sudden

death playoff. If Chuck gets this wrong, Greg

will be the first winner of this game, and maybe

only depending if we ever play it again. We'll

see. So again, we have the standard or the man

with many voices. I'll go with the standard.

The standard, as in Mark Hamill. I know that

one doesn't make as much sense, but I guess,

I don't know. I made sense in my head, but now

that I'm doing it, not as much. It's okay. You

don't have to explain yourself. It's your game.

Kind of do it because it's my game, so you need

to know how to play. All right. Mark Hamill.

Out of his top four, how many do you think you

can name? See, this is tricky because there's

a lot of stuff that he could be, that could be

in his top four. I'm going to, you know what?

I'm going to use a little strategy here. I'm

going to go one. All right. One. Very, very interesting.

All right. Which one are you going to go with?

I'm going to go with... Star Wars The Force Awakens.

That is correct. That is in his top four. Greg,

you do have the opportunity to block. Right now,

it would be tied, and we would go to a Sun of

Death playoff. Unless you can name one of the

remaining three in his top four. What is your

choice? The pressure is on. It doesn't get to

you. It's all for the marbles. This will go down

in history in podcasting. But besides that...

Batman the animated series Batman the animated

series is not in his top four We are going to

a playoff We're going to a playoff. The remaining

three in his top four, a little movie called

Star Wars, episode four, A New Hope, another

little movie called Star Wars, episode five,

The Empire Strikes Back, and another little movie

called Star Wars, episode, Star Wars Return of

the Jedi. I was gonna name all four, but my strategy

was there was a lot of options to flood Greg

with, so I figured he might misstep on one of

those. So we're gonna go with... Luckily, I get

the gamble paid off. Ultimate playoff. So I'm

going to, with the remaining one, with the man

with many voices. How this playoff's gonna work,

since Chuck, you went last, Greg, we'll go back

to you to start. I'm gonna name the actor. You

have the opportunity to name how many films out

of his top four you feel like you can name. One,

two, three, or four. If you go one. It's kind

of like, name that tune. If you feel like you

can only name one, Chuck has the opportunity

to get you to name that one out of his top four.

If not, he has to then say two. If then, Chuck,

Greg, you feel that you can name more than that,

you would then say three or make Chuck say that,

those remaining two. So, whenever we get, obviously

until we get the top four, if we go beyond four.

That's when the we would just continue because

there are ones that are underneath the top four

the fifth six and seven So it can go beyond four

if you would like so just in case if you're wondering

so Greg will start with you The man of many voices

is Adam Sandler out of his top four. How many

think you can name? I can name three Greg sorry

Chuck. Do you want to challenge him to make him

name those three or do you think you can up him

and go with four? Think I can up him and go try

with all four Greg You're gonna up him go with

five or you're gonna make him name all four of

Adam Sandler's Top four best known on IMDB Name

those check Name those shows in those movies.

Okay, let's go with Happy Gilmore. Okay water

boy Billy Madison and grown -ups. Gilmore is

in his top four. Grown -ups is in his top four.

And you had Waterboy and Billy Madison? Well?

Yes. I have to say this, and that is congratulations

to Greg for winning the first game of Best Known

As, because the remaining two are grown -ups

two and Big Daddy. I knew Big Daddy was gonna

be one of them. So, very close side and overtime.

Congratulations to Greg, but to you both, Hardy.

Thank you. I don't know what I would say. Well

done, all of you. Good job. Hopefully you enjoyed

it. Well, let us know. Well played, Chuck. Well

played. All right. Well, let's... Let us know

what you thought of this game, how well you did,

if we should do it again. We'll see, you know.

We may tweak it a little bit, we'll see how it

goes, but let us know and you can do so by contacting

us in a number of different ways. You can email

us at feedback at decafrader .com or talkingincirclesatlive

.com. We're at Facebook and Twitter. You can

just search Talking In Circles, DCRN. You guys

are also on Twitter. What are your Twitter names?

I am at heroicagechuck. And I am at the Crate

Forge. And I am at the Revolts. But that'll be

it for this week. We'll be back next week. Same

time, same channel, same podcast feed, but for

now. This has been Chuck. This has been Greg,

or the guy that doesn't have Superman's durability.

And this has been Dan, and we've been talking

in circles. We'll see you next week. I want to

go on my IMDB to see my top floor, but apparently

I do not have a page. My number one in my IMDB

page is for a movie called That Guy, and I play

the creepy guy. Nice. Good job for that. Thanks.

I can name two of Dan's top four. Talking in

Circles podcast and Cinemagor. There you go.
