Hawkeye: Strobe Lights and Secret Agents

Bag. This is episode 466. Ignore what we said

going backwards or going forwards or going sideways

or going diagonally. I don't know. I'm of course,

Steve Jo and Mike. Joining me as always for So

You Wanna Be a Hawkeye is Miss Allison Richards.

Hello. Hello. And it is episode four, folks.

This show has gone way too damn fast. Hey, you

know what? This show is just the gift that keeps

on giving. Well, yes, that is very true. But

I remember when Wandavision came out and when

Winter Soldier came out, I was like, is it Friday

yet? Is it Friday yet? Is it Friday yet? Or whatever,

you know, whenever those were. I'm like, oh,

OK. And it felt like those were going on like

for months and months. And here we are at episode

four of Hawkeye. And that's the format of miniseries.

We don't have miniseries anymore. It's very rare

we see one, especially with streaming these days.

So when we get a really good miniseries, we forget

how the pacing moves with them. Absolutely. It

just It feels like they are angling on Leaving

us hanging off of a cliff when we get to episode

six. I Don't know if that's what they're doing

well just saying the way that episode three and

four happen it just feels like Here we're just

gonna keep you reeling back reeling you back

in for more Well, I mean maybe there's a coincidence

that Hawkeye ends on the Around the same time

that spider -man no way home begins comes out

in theaters You know, maybe there's a coincidence

there but But I think that they're trying to

establish a new New York Also within this because

you're We're not you know, it's not lonely. Are

we like focusing just on you know Clint and and

Kate but we're focusing in on you know a a Security

company, you know that is For all we know global

right now. Yeah, that's what I would think So,

you know, there's a way that that can touch onto

a lot of different areas within the Marvel universe.

You know, if Uncle turns out to be Fisk, as we

all believe it is so far going to be, you know,

that is a big merge between... the New York that

was created within the, you know, the Daredevil,

Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist Defenders

world, and, you know, moving forward into this,

you know, New York. So, you know, it brings all

of those back to relevancy again. It's setting

up to... reestablish those storylines in a way

without actually having to reshoot them. Yeah.

I mean, with MCU, with the MCU movies, you know,

we went global very quickly. You know, everything

was a global disaster, a global catastrophe,

a global threat. You know, and even when we hit

some of the individual movies, we were still

on a global level. And Hawkeye is not a global

threat. Hawkeye is a very small threat within

a specified location. And I mean, whatever's

happening in Whichever part of New York that

they are in Which I don't know if it's beds.

I don't think it's bedstuy actually, but it's

not going to affect even Places like even where

Ant -Man is hanging out, you know, it's not going

to have that much reverb but it's focusing on

the small world and Those types of stories are

more intimate to To view to to to viewers. Marvel

is really a smaller story. You know and that's

why all these coming in the. The next phase is

coming out a lot of these are smaller story with

disney now owning marvel fox star wars etc etc

with marvel and fox. They can throw everything

into. No way home, which is leading to the multiverse

of madness and all of that. And then what happens

after that, whatever it is, however those movies

will play out, those are the branching off points.

Whereas right now we have the little branches

like you're talking about where, you know, we're

kind of not resetting things, but we're trying

to align the continuity so everybody fits. So

if we see, not that we're going to see this,

but if we see Luke Cage walking down the street

somewhere within a Hawkeye or whatever, you know,

we won't blink an eye at it. We might blink an

eye at it and say, Hey, when's the next season

of Luke Cage going to happen or something or

other or whatever. But like, it's one of those

things where now that Disney owns all of it,

it all comes together in one grand universe.

Um, but, and these little bits and pieces that

we're getting are great. Again, felt like a two

hour movie and there's a lot here to unpack,

but at the same time, there isn't a lot here

to unpack because it hits you so hard beginning,

middle and end. Mm -hmm. And we do start off

exactly where we left off with, you know, the

sword and the this and the that and the whatever

and Jack and Clint and... And the most, world's

most awkward family tea time. Yes. Stay exactly

where you are. Jack, no! What the hell is going

on? And why is there an Avenger in my dining

room? Hi. Oh my god, you're Archer. Hawkeye.

Clint. It's the branding issue I'm telling you.

Yeah, sure. What I love about... Now, I'm gonna

say this now and I don't think it's true. I really

do not think it's true, but the more and more

and more I see and hear about Jack and I see

how Jack is, I'm like, the dude's a fucking Skrull.

Because, oh, you are the archer. I'm like, oh

my God. Well, his branding needs work. Come on.

That's true. He does have branding issues. I

nearly choked when they had the old Hawkeye costume

on the napkin. Because I'm like, seriously, no.

I would never, and I love the line as like, I

would never wear that because my wife would divorce

me. I'm like, I'm like, yes, that is a very,

you know, very, very true statement. I pretty

sure Laura Barton. You know, I come from watching

the old 90s Fox Iron Man cartoon where Hawkeye

showed up briefly in that because of Force works

and things like that. Yeah. And that 90s suit

is I'll take any modern streamlined purple and

black suit that they want to put on on Clint

for the MCU for this show for whatever they do

with it. But man like a giant H on his forehead.

It's Yeah, it's just so wrong. Well, even when

he's come to the modern adaptation of Black and

Purple that he has now, if you look, if you ever

see him in his normal clothes with a ski cap

on or like some kind of beanie, it actually has

the H in the beanie. Okay, an H in or on or designed

in a bean hat or whatever, any kind of hat you're

gonna put on him, that's fine. But that old costume

had the H sticking out like Batman's fucking

ears. They were Hawk's wings. Yeah, well, they

looked like Batman's ears. Hawk's wings, that's...

God. Where do they think this guy lives Atlanta?

Come on now. Oh Come on, they came up with this

stuff in like what this 60s? Oh true No, and

you know, it is what it is and I'm not you know,

hey if people like it great, but like oh God,

but can we say though if you had to choose between

the purple outfit and his Goliath outfit Boy,

what is the Goliath outfit? Because I don't remember

off the top of my head. His Goliath outfit consisted

of a headband, a pair of suspenders, and shorts.

Google image search. Um, okay. I guess I'll take

the wings after all, cause yikes. That's, that's

horrible. There were choices made. Clint has

never made smart choices. There were choices

made that were out of his control because some

moron was in charge at the time or something

because oh crap. Oh my. God. No, no. Yeah. All

right. Anyway, go back to the actual episode.

Yeah, the tea party for the tea party. The most

awkward tea party where also I I I love how they

are trying to set up Jack like it's like they're

telling us all this stuff about Jack now that

we know. And yet at the same time, we're starting

to see why Eleanor and Jack work. And you see

Kate wanting her mother to have the happiness

that comes with this. And so it's almost like

the whole, oh, you're not going to want to find

out that Jack's a bad guy, even though We have

the fun knowledge that we know he is the bad

guy. There's a bit of dramatic irony there, which

is when the audience knows something that is

coming that the characters don't. You know you

you we have that with us knowing about you know,

Jack being the the CEO and connected to Maya

Wow, the superhero house call and a serenade

all in one day, you know what they say Life is

short You never know what you're gonna get What

did I say? Did I say something wrong? Why? Every

time you use one of those aphorisms, they're

wrong. What? No. That can't be right, is it?

Darling, please. The other day you said absence

makes the heart grow older. Because that's what

it does. No. Honey, come here. Oh, you're making

my heart grow older. I guess getting laughed

at by family is better than being alone in the

holidays, right? The tracksuits and Jack and

how he's like, he's trying to play the dimwit,

but also he's showing you that he is one of I'm

just going to say one of because he's not the

actual top dog. But you know what I mean? Like

he's the middle, like he's the, he's the mid

boss level kind of thing where he has to walk

as a character, Jack Duquesne has to walk this

line of the buffoon as well as, Oh, by the way,

I'm actually hiding things from you. I'm hiding

the fact that I'm a great fencing artist and

whatever, you know, and all this and all that.

I do like how Kate and Eleanor both, number one,

make fun of him. Number two, they basically throw

it in his face. Like, you know, you constantly

say the wrong thing. Yeah. You know, between

Archer and, you know, life is like a box of whatever,

which is not what he said. But, you know, I don't

know. Jack is... I like how they played the scene

from last episode to this episode where at the

end, oh crap, he's got a sword to his throat.

And then Eleanor comes, there's an Avenger in

my dining room, living room, whatever she says,

but there's an Avenger in my house kind of thing.

I was like, you've been saying about Jack and

Clint's history. I was hoping for a little bit

more of a quieter. conversation with the two

of them. I'm perfectly fine with what happens.

It's what happens. You know, Kate comes in, no,

Jack, no, it's okay. You know, all this, I'm

perfectly fine with that. But I also would have

loved to have seen like this quiet, dark thing

where they're just kind of feeling each other

out. Yeah. I also, I also am not, um, you know,

still not, not entirely unconvinced. He's a scroll.

because you know that but the scroll wouldn't

have the memories of jack because they get their

true um but i mean there's also a chance that

the person who is jack has one of those like

face masks that that nat wears um often but that's

a long con to be wearing that oh yeah so that's

yeah that's a very Very long con also speaking

of people being completely different from what

we're expecting Hello secret agent Laura Barton.

Yeah, I know right I'm like And it comes back

to you know, where we're back in age of Ultron

where we're we're where Iron Man was like This

has got to be some kind of agent. And now like,

you know, we're setting her up to just, oh no,

it's my wife, mother, my kids, you know, she's

all sweet and innocent. And yet now, oh my God,

you know, she speaks, you know, other, she speaks

other languages to keep the kids from hearing

mom and dad talk. And she had access to global

positioning satellites and You know, the watch

has come back and like, why is this watch important?

Suddenly we know. Why do we know about the, you

know, the security on this watch? How does Laura

able to hack it? Yeah, no, I, you know, it's

one of those things where, you know, like you

say, you go back to age of Ultron. Um, how is

it? We didn't know anything about this Clint.

Oh, Fury helped me set this up. So I think, personally,

I believe that between Avengers and Ultron, because

of what happened to Clint and he's not a fan

of mind control and all of that, I think that's

at that point, at the end of Avengers, up to

the whole shtick in Ultron. That's when all that

was set up and that's when everything happened

and he just kinda, I don't want to say he plays

her off as, but I think she is because fury set

this up. She, like you've been saying, she is

much more than meets the eye when it comes to

who Laura Barton actually is as far as what she

can do and everything. And I. Don't want to say

this but I'm going to say it anyway, and it's

gonna be a little bit sexist For half of a second

as I'm watching this episode. I'm like, oh she's

like his his em. She's like his little secretary

Well, the way I kind of was looking at it was

well Considering how old Cooper is mm -hmm I

kind of want to think that, you know, figure

Cooper's probably around seven, 16, 17, maybe.

The oldest son on the notepad, it said Cooper

16. Violet 14 and Nate 12, I think. I could be

wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure I heard

Cooper 16. All right. So, so Cooper 16. Then

you figure they're gone five years. That means

Cooper technically would be 21 which so Figure

the Bartons have married over 20 years at that

point Yeah, so I wouldn't be surprised if you

know Laura and Bart and Clint were partners first

Yeah, it's similar to how in the comics we have

Bobby Morris Yeah, and I don't want to sit here

and say that it's that Laura is a stand -in for

Bobby But I think that's kind of what they're

doing here is there they're giving us sort of

the comics, but they're also Doing it in a way

that makes sense for the MCU that works for the

characters of Hawkeye and Laura and and all of

that Right. And then Clint, Laura could be like

the eyes in the sky for when Clint is on a mission

where she can be the one looking through drones

and satellite feeds and feeding him real time

data. So if they were struck, you know, and especially

after, you know, after Natasha joined, you know,

they talk about strike team Delta and we all

assumed, um, usually that, that this would be

Colson's role, but Colson has an entire, you

know, has an entire, you know, big strike team,

which included Rumlow and everybody else. So

maybe Laura was that third person that worked

with the two of them and the, um, You know and

then when once Lila started coming around Colson

ended up taking over that point Because you know

she has a toddler and a baby to take care of

yep absolutely And what I love about Laura and

Clint is no secrets No, nothing like you know,

she knows what he's going through. She gives

him this whole laundry list of You know go put

your feet up Foot eyes do this, do that. She

does the, you know, the loving wife thing where,

because she does know it doesn't have to be this

big slate, you know, the old, you know, secret

identity thing. And I'm glad that it's not because

that can only go so far. There's only so many

times you can, you know, throw a shoe down a

hallway and have Aunt Harriet go chase it. Yeah,

and she she you and you could tell that That

they've they're old -school at it, too. Yeah.

Oh, yeah This isn't like this isn't a new arrangement.

This is something they have done for a long time

Yeah, and Yeah to be able to be you know a spy

and also have a family in a life You have to

have that one person who knows everything. I

mean Laura knows about Ronan Or is the only one

who knows about Ronin, you know, within that

family unit, because the kids don't know. Yeah,

and the kids shouldn't know. Right. They don't

want, you know, I mean, again, thankfully, they

only did it for half of a second. But in episode

four in the previously on segment, I'm like,

no, don't show me the phone call scene again.

You're going to make me cry. Stop that, Marvel.

Stop it. But, you know, you look at that phone

call scene between Clint, Nate, and Kate, and

he wants his kids to know the hero that he is.

He doesn't want his kids to see the worst in

him. Maybe down the line, there may be a point

when they're old enough that, you know, Clint

and Laura can go to them and say, hey, you're

going to find out about this eventually. Yada,

yada, yada, yada. Yeah, you know what I mean?

Like when they're 18 or 19 or I mean like when

they're old enough to understand like Nate's

not gonna understand that daddy went off the

deep end because his best friend died Yeah thing

Yeah, and Also, you know, we've got the fact

that he did a lot of bad stuff and he He is himself

is, in retrospect, not happy with what he did.

Oh, yeah. I mean, you know, it's... Of course

he's gonna have regrets from his actions. But

at least he's open with the kids about being

Avengers. Otherwise, you know, they wouldn't

have gone to see that musical. That's true. The

musical. Yes, which they love that they continue

to advertise the musical in each episode It is

just Perfect. Yes. Yes it is So we get more on

not more but we get more with Maya we get Kate

doing Kate stuff and oh That apartment scene

Oh my God, they, I had to take a moment to remember

that Kate's 22. Yeah. Because I was like, Clint,

are you, no, she's, she's actually legal. It's

okay. Um, but I, we now know kind of where the

PG 13 rating comes in. Right. Um, cause of alcohol

use. My god, so I have been looking at tie -in

merchandise that have been coming in out and

I have been seeing that cat sweater Design on

sweatshirts and on t -shirts and I'm just like

What the hell is this about? Finally know what

the cat sweatshirts about. Yeah, I'm like Do

I really want one? No. I have my Hawkeye ugly

sweater on a sweatshirt and I ordered, I now

have one that's coming to me. That's a green

shirt with a plate and two gingerbread men that

are painted in as Clint and as Kate. And so I'm

like, I've got my Hawkeye Christmas gear. I'm

good. I'm like, I do not need that cat sweater.

but no the cat sweater teaching her to how to

flick the charm which again I love that because

you know people they really haven't shown a lot

of his skill outside of the arrows and outside

of the sword so um in the cartoons all the time

you see Clint using found objects as weapons.

You know, I think there's like, there's like

an issue of a comic somewhere. No, it's a cartoon.

When the when the the Masters of Evil invade

the the tower in Avengers assemble and Clint's

the only one there. And he's You know barefoot

working on trick arrows and doesn't realize that

they're there until they're in the room with

him And so he has to escape Through the entire

mansion and all he has are either the things

he finds on the floor as he's going around Or

the things that are on him and you see him as

his identity card You see him use, you know his

belt you see him use You know everything that

he can to use as a weapon he does but we've not

really gotten a lot of that in MCU until now

and the only time we ever really saw him being

accurate with other items was the dart board

which it's dart so it kind of fits and the time

he throws cap his shield yep So I love that they're

showcasing that piece of him. I also love seeing,

you know, the bonding between the two where,

you know, he's like, he said that he's going

to keep Kate from from getting hurt. And yet

at the same time, he's, you know, he's he's making

sure that She learned some of the stuff that

she needs to know if she's going to do this on

her own after he leaves Yeah Because he knows

overconfidence and that you know, he's not gonna

be able to tell her note everything. Yeah, I

Both times that I've watched this episode I both

loved and cringed at the over -the -roof part

of the, I'm like, no, don't, don't do this again.

We don't need an Avengers end game part three.

When Kate goes over the roof and he's reaching,

it's the same kind of scene when Nat went, you

know, and I'm like, oh, you fuckers don't do

that because holy crap. And then she's like,

pull me up. And he's like, nope, you're just

going to fall into the Christmas lights. It's

okay. And obviously the Christmas lights break

her fall. But she's back up at him. Well, yeah,

I mean, of course she's going to, you know, it's

Kate Bishop. She's going to run right back into

the danger. I mean, hello. She's trying to save

him. Yeah. Yeah, but no, but yeah, that that

that was very much, you know, meant to mirror

mirror Natasha there. Like there was not even

any, you know. Trying not to say that yeah, and

it proceeds You know Yelena being discovered.

Yeah. Yeah, it precedes Yelena being revealed

and I Do love that back and forth between them.

So in the apartment As the strobe lights are

going off when she first tells him about this

it It takes them a while to figure it out. Like

why are there strobe lights? Yeah, I kind of

knew what it was right away. Yeah, I kind of

figured it out because I've seen other things

in television and film like that. But I love

how she just immediately pulls out the putty

arrows. And I'm like, ooh, purple goop. Yay.

And then obviously we figure it out. And we get

to the point where Maya's here. Yeah, I know.

I told you that. No, she's here in the apartment.

No, she's here with me. No, no, Clint. No, like,

well, then who the hell am I fighting? I love

that misdirect at first before before Maya is

actually before Kate goes to and I hate I don't

hate the scene, but I hate when that happens

to characters when you go to turn around, you

can't turn around fully. You're just punched

immediately. Yeah. And it took you, you know,

it took you a moment to realize they're not working

together. No, they're not. Elena is there for

a completely different reason than why Maya is

is obviously it's Maya's apartment. Hello, they're

breaking and entering. I mean, between breaking

and entering and evidence tampering, I mean,

really, these Hawk people are villains. Hey,

Hawk, I never said he was the hero. So, um, but

yeah, no, he, uh, like, I figured it was Maya's

place almost immediately just because, um, I

know that. that in those who are hard of hearing,

you have those different methods to be able to

alert them. And the lights flashing is very common

in houses of people who are hearing disabled.

So it was just like, oh shit, they're in Maya's

place. Like the second the strobing went on.

And then part of me is like, come on, Clint,

you know better. Does he though? I mean, come

on. Yeah. But I could see how it could also be

something be just a security alert. Because when

you think when a security alarm is triggered,

you know, you usually have like some kind of

like light flashing or siren or something like

that. So I could see how it could be taken either

way. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, Kate, you know,

using the grappling arrow to be able to go from

the higher to the lower building and getting

stuck halfway through. That, that was pure comedy

gold there. I loved that. Oh, this is great!

Come on! Come on! That hurt! Because you just

see her kind of like, okay, how do I keep doing

this? We're just going to start inching, inching,

inching a little. Uh -huh. Yeah, the whole zipline

thing. Yeah. That reminded me of another holiday

classic. Luckily, Kevin McAllister, he was only

going from his house to his tree house, not from

rooftop to rooftop. I was like, oh, she's going

to get stuck in the middle, isn't she? It's going

to slow down. The momentum isn't there anymore.

It was the burglars who got stuck halfway across.

And then Kevin cut the rope, which sent them

careening back into the wall of the house. Into

the wall of the house, yeah. Yeah. So, and being

that Disney apparently has Home Alone property

now, you know. I refuse to watch that. I will

never do a podcast about that movie. The Home

Sweet Home. The new one. I haven't watched the

new one yet. Don't. Whatever you do, don't. I

don't want to ruin my childhood. It's not that

it's okay. So the way that they set up home sweet

home alone is that these people are trying to

figure out how to keep their house and they can't

keep their house. So they have to leave their

house and then somebody else moves into their

house because their house got bought. but then

they fight over this dog basically the previous

homeowners are The Harry and Marv of the movie,

but they're also parents. They're also and I'm

like, oh my god No, don't even the only good

thing about it is they brought back The original

actor who played buzz and he plays a cop Only

only interesting good thing about home sweet

home alone, but I will never do a podcast about

that movie All right. All right. All right. Side

rant. Side rant. Yep, yep, yep. Hawkeye. Holy

crap. Just everything. And I think the only thing

we probably haven't touched on is two things.

And one of them is the the LARPers and Kate,

because that was just awesome. What I want you

to do is track down the trick arrows. from our

friends, the LARPers. Wait, what? My tracer arrows

stopped moving. It's over by an NYPD facility

down by the bridge. And now the LARPers, they're

mostly first responders, once a cop. See if they

can get access to that NYPD facility. LARPer

friends. Yeah, they're colorful. You're gonna

love them. You know, I like to think of them

more as our arrows. Okay, go get our arrows.

You guys are dedicated. Who are you? Uh, Hawkeye

sent me here on official Avengers business. I'm

his partner's lunch best friend Kate. He said

you guys could help us out. One of you is a cop?

That's me. Officer Wendy Conrad, better as Elsbeth

of Deepdale. Officer? Basically all we need is

some casual run -of -the -mill evidence tampering.

Hawkeye's trick arrows are in an NYPD facility

near the Manhattan Bridge. I can probably help

you out. If you make it worth my while. Worth

our while. Yeah. Yeah, sure. Totally. Whatever

you want. All right. All in? Okay. It's gonna

be great. You guys are awesome. Outfits. It's

just really awesome. That was Hawkeye showing

his villain side right there, okay? So you were

to go and do that. But she had a much better

experience with them than he I mean he had a

good experience But he had to actually you know

get the suit back from grills Well, he's a grumpy

old man, and he didn't want to have to be killed

again is what it was Yes, but I mean grills is

is a firefighter. He's not a he's a superhero,

but he's not a Marvel superhero, so you know

just let him have this one I mean it's not gonna

kill Clint and well it is but it isn't I was

gonna say I don't know, Clint's probably thinking

it might kill him inside. He might die inside

again. But no, I love bringing girls back and

the little bit of hero worshipping and especially

where she didn't want to give up the bag because

that's the one her wife gave her. And I'm like,

Clint, Clint, you just need to go into the apartment

and find another bag. You're really it'll be

faster than arguing with her or having to worry

about the bag. Yeah. And I love that we have

the. It's not everywhere in media, but in shows

like this and other shows where we can just in

nothing, you know. Oh, my wife gave it to me.

And you know, it's a it's a non traditional relationship,

whatever it's whatever it is. But like, I just

love that that it's like, we just now, you know,

okay. Yeah, you know, and and it's not meant

to be in there for shock value. It's not meant

to be in there, like as a huge social justice

statement. It's just the reality of the world

and it's there and you're done. This show is

very, very diverse in both the ableism as well

as casting and gender roles. Because I'm pretty

sure, at least in the comics, Kate Bishop is

bi. So, yeah, you know, we're making sure that

this is part of the foundation of this world.

Yeah. Now my question is, and it doesn't really

matter, it's just a one -off question. She says

that her wife gave her the bag. Is the girl that

she was with the wife? So when we first meet,

Officer... What's her face, whatever her name

is, Wendy or whatever. The white woman that's

right next to her, is that the wife or is it

somebody completely different? I would assume

it would be her because, hello, they're doing

this whole LARPing thing together and everything

else. I don't know. I'm not trying to put, you

know what I mean? Again, at the end of the day,

it doesn't matter, but you would think if they're

going to put a line like that in there, that

they would eventually Not necessarily show her

but you know, we would yeah just you know, hey,

this is this is my wife kind of thing Yeah, no,

I don't think it's the woman because she would

have pulled herself into that conversation That's

true wise. She would have been like, oh no, honey.

It's Hawkeye. Let him have the bag. It's okay

I'll get you another one Yeah. Uh, and the other

part, besides the LARPers that we have to talk

about now, the, the titles for so far have, haven't

been so tongue in cheek that they would make

Bethany cringe. We have never meet your heroes

for episode one, hide and seek for two, echoes

for three, obviously echoes because we fully

meet Maya because she's interrogating Barton

and Bishop. And then this one feels pretty much

like a Kate line. Partners, am I right? Yes.

Yes, which they have a merch that actually has

that as on the shirt. But yeah, no, that is definitely

a Kate. Well, I just love this show so much.

It's so good. Yeah. Yeah, it totally is. Is showcasing

Kate and it's showcasing a bit more of the humor

in the show because as much as you know there

is humor in the first three episodes this one

really I felt. Got good into the blending of

the humor and the seriousness. Yeah. Yeah, and

even using serious moments to be humorous too.

So I feel that also going back to the LARPers,

can we say that I kind of love that Clint and

Kate's new costumes are going to be coming from

LARPers? Yeah, that is awesome. I approve this.

I mean, it does remind again that Tony's not

there, Shield's not there. But it's, it's, it's

almost like, you know, you guys, you guys are

the geeks, you know, and we want in a way to

have these have a connection to, you know, our

fans who are geeks. So we are going to give them

costumes made by you in a way, you know, in a

roundabout way. Yes, absolutely. It is so, so

good. And... And then girls cooking. Girls...

I mean, yeah. You kinda have to have him doing

that. Yeah. Here's our guy. Hey. Snickerdoodle.

Still warm. Okay. Hey, come on in. Hey, Clint.

How'd your day go? Hi. My, uh, my day's been

fine. How are you doing? Great. Yeah. Better

than yours, I'd say. So, did you, uh, get my

gear? Yeah. Yeah, they're on their way. They

should be here in a minute. Relax. What? Do that.

Not gonna lie, I look pretty good as a Viking.

You know, I made this myself. No way! By hand.

Maybe I could hire you to make my next one. Yeah,

I would love to. Hey, wait a second. What if

that's our deal? What deal? We get you the arrows

and info. And you get us materials for a new

costume. OK. How about enough materials to make

your costumes plus two more? I know a certain

someone who needs a little help with theirs.

getting new costumes. New costumes? Kate, I asked

you to simply retrieve my arrows. Not stage a

play. We're a guild. So another thing that...

We need to talk about is the fact that You've

seen I'm sure you have Christmas vacation, right?

With Clark Griswold. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah so This

is the only Other Series television media, whatever

that I have ever seen The Bing Crosby song in

Besides Christmas Vacation. Remind me which Bing

Crosby song it is? The Hawaiian Christmas song,

the Merakalikimaka is the way to be. Oh! When

that appeared, I was like, wait, what? What is

that doing in Hawkeye? It's a fun bouncy song.

No, it is. Absolutely it is. And it fits well

with this, but the only other place I have ever

seen that. is in the scene in Christmas Vacation

where Clark is dreaming about the pool and he's

dreaming about Cousin Eddie and then Cousin Eddie

turns into the hot chick and then Ruby Sue comes

in and says, Santa? Yeah. You know. I almost

kind of want to think that they had that playing

in Home Alone 2, but I'm probably wrong. I don't

remember that, but it's the one where the family

went to Florida. Yeah. No, no, no. I know. I

know which one it is. I'm just saying I've, I've

seen that movie so many times. I do not remember

that in there. It might be in there briefly,

but yeah, I could also be, you know, I could

also be, you know, um, hallucinating it. I just

loved this episode. I also love the, you know,

the hints of what is coming there because you

can see Yelena is actually trying to kill Clint.

Oh yeah. And you know, there was this idea called

the Avengers. No, um, there, you know, being

that Natasha set up in black widow teaching Yelena

all about her. You know, her close relationship

with Clint, you know, that she might not go in

guns blazing, but no, we went in guns blazing.

And ladies and gentlemen, you will be hearing

this episode of the podcast Saturday, December,

not September. Wow. Saturday, December 11th,

2021. And I just found out. that cause I'm, cause

every week I pull up the main Hawkeye Wikipedia

article where it shows the episodes and it shows

all the other stuff and whatever else. And I

just kind of half curious started scrolling down.

We get to the music section as of December 10th,

2021 Hawkeye volume one by Kristoff Beck and

I forget what the other person's name is, but

basically the musical score to Hawkeye is now

out on streaming in other places. Volume one

includes the first three episodes. Volume two,

which will be episodes four to six, will be released

on Christmas Eve. So volume one includes 20 tracks.

Obviously, since we're recording this right now

at this moment, I haven't had a chance to. You

know, obviously listen to it, but I Because I've

been listening to the playlist that you sent

me. Yeah There's some stuff on there. That's

like they're just pulling from to from other

Avengers scores to be able to keep Spotify from

adding its own music onto this playlist Right.

Yeah. Yeah. So the 20 tracks briefly and I some

of these Bethany, please if you're listening,

of the Buy and Sells, Ronan. This isn't me, this

is them. Don't flip me off, flip them off. Ronan,

boughs of holly, LARP in the park, mistletoe

to toe. Oh my God. Even I'm cringing at that

one. I'm leaving now. No, no, no. There's only

five more. No, no, no. Come on now. It's beginning

to look a lot like Clint's mess. That one actually

I like. Maya's theme. Sorry, Santa. Do you hear

what I fear? Ooh, that sounds like a daredevil

track. Little dragon and fighting over toys.

It's beginning to look a lot like Clint's mess.

Yep. Everywhere Clint goes. Oh God, as soon as

we're done with this show, I have to just crank

up the volume in my headphones and listen to

this soundtrack. Oh God. As I said, folks, volume

one of The Hawkeye Score by Kristoff Beck is

streaming on Spotify, and I'm sure you can get

it in other places as well. It includes music

from the first three episodes of the series.

Episodes four through six will comprise of volume

two, will be out December 24th, so Mary Clint's

missed us. And is there any points from Hufflepuff

Mike stop losing points from our town our house

Lord I Guess I shouldn't move to Nashville then

anyway Anything else we need to say about episode

four is there anything we missed Lucky is the

best boy ever Yes, yes, he is. I actually kind

of, you know, that one moment with Clint and

Eleanor, you know, you can actually, you know,

really see that Eleanor really does care about

her daughter. You know, it's not that just Kate's

there and she puts up with Kate and her antics,

but you know, she really loves and cares about

her daughter. Yep. Oh, and the other thing before

we forget, because we forgot to do it at the

beginning, we were supposed to do this. Last

time when we talked about Echoes, we completely

skipped over Maya's origin completely. Oh, yeah,

we did. That's right. We were going to come back

to that today. It's like, wow, the episode's

named after her. We don't talk about her at all.

Wow. Yeah, we were bad and we apologize to all

the Echo fans. Yes, well here we go You know

as someone who has never really known about like

I didn't know about her character I had only

heard brief things and I don't remember if she's

in I This is her debut, right? She wasn't in

Endgame or any of that stuff. Yeah. No, she will

she as far as I know has not been in any MCU

thing. She is in the comics. Right. And as far

as the MCU goes, season one, episode three echoes

is her origin. And I just, I love how they did

it. I thought it was great where, you know, her

and her parents and all of that and You know

her asking her parents about the you know going

to the death school and and all this is heart

wrenching. You know and he's not even though

she is doing bad things. I don't think and i

don't know cuz i haven't read the comics but

specifically to this. I don't think she i think

she just has that. grudge against Ronan for something

that Ronan did, you know, kind of thing. I don't

think she's a hole -in -hole -out evil person.

No, Ronan killed her dad. Oh, that's right. Whoops.

Whoops. Well, then, you know, folks, I'm old.

My brain hurts. I did not remember that. And

it shows it in that episode, too. This is the

problem with doing weekly shows, folks. You forget

what happens week to week sometimes. The one

thing that's kind of showcased here a lot more

than we see in all the others, except for civil

war. We see that these villains, are, have these

moments that change their trajectory on who they

are or their goals in, in being, you know, having

good purposes to what they do versus, you know,

shadier and darker and deadly purposes to what

they're do. I mean, the reason I include civil

war in this is because of Zemo. Zemo is avenging

his family after Sokovia. And I mean, even Quicksilver

and Scarlet Witch, what they did was because

of the loss of their parents, you know, and you

see that that it's, it always comes down to these

choices. Whereas, you know, you get these big

larger than life villains like Thanos and Ultron

and Red Skull that we lose that humanization.

And while I do believe that there needs to be

villains who don't have a sympathetic edge to

them in stories, you know, at times that there

is also a place for morally ambiguous, you know,

anti -heroes and, you know, the as I as as I

call them sometimes the the workplace villains,

where, you know, this is that, you know, economy

in America is tough. And this is how they got

their work. And, you know, they get paid under

the table and then they take the home books and

they, you know, give the money to their wives

to go out and pay the rent and buy clothes for

the kids and food for the kids, you know, work

at the working class henchmen. So it's the the

tracksuit mafia and and and Maya and and those

are reminders in a way that you That you know,

yeah, they're they're doing bad stuff. Um but

I think actually what the tracksuit mafia in

the in the In the comics all they're doing is

they're enforcing is that they are enforcing

People moving out of neighborhoods Because their

boss is buying up the property, you know and

because they want to tear down all the old buildings

and build like a Super mall type thing, you know

So, so yeah, they're, they're like the little

street thugs who, you know, are like either pay,

you know, either pay us your protection money

or, you know, we're gonna, we're gonna come and

mess your shit up. So, you know, it's, it's,

they're not dealing with this big, huge end of

the world catastrophe. But as they get deeper

into their story, the danger exponentially grows

because tracksuits were one thing chasing after

Kate, but Maya is another thing because Maya

is, you know, very solely focused on killing

Ronan. And then now we've brought in Yelena,

who is very, very focused on killing Clint Barton,

you know, and We still have yet to see Uncle.

We have yet to see Jack show his hand as to what

his deal with the tracksuit mafia is. And honestly,

we still have yet to see Eleanor Bishop and what

her side is. And Eleanor Bishop, in a way, reminds

me of Moriah Queen, Oliver Clean's mother. Moira.

Yeah. Yes. And, and how, you know, she ended

up being part of this, you know, literal purge

for the, the lower class area of Starling City.

And yet, you know, In most of the episode, we

kind of knew she was doing some weird, you know,

dealings behind the scenes in season one, but

really, you know, she was just focused on being

a mom and kids and running, helping run Queen

Industries. So, you know, I'm waiting to see

where Eleanor Bishop is. all of this because

that's why Jack is there that's why Armand got

killed you know and I wouldn't be surprised if

it's connection to the auction because he has

the freaking Ronin blade in the house yeah you

know where hey Jack where did you get this oh

I just found it on the street you know yeah Yeah,

so, so, you know, I'm waiting to see how Bishop

Security and Elena, uh, Eleanor tie into all

of this. Yeah, it's going to be interesting to

say the least. And man, we're four episodes into

this and I want there to be so much more of it.

Also, you need to give a special shout out to

the makeup artists. Because they for however

long they were filming they had to know where

every single one of these injuries were how to

re put them onto their face and You know if they

filmed it out of order, you know They would have

had to have like the full like this is the final

messed up Clint Barton face messed up Kate Bishop

face and know at what time each of those scars

would join in the litany of the others on the

face and be able to keep all that straight. Because

so far I've yet to see a flub or like a moment

where things were not where they were supposed

to be. Yeah, everything is in its place in this

show. I mean, just the artistry of it all, the

makeup, the costuming. the way the actors are

reading, not reading the lines, but the way that

they're performing the lines, the way that the

events unfold, the combination of the actual

score and then the actual music, the Christmas

music and other music that's in this, it's all

put together well. Yes, and it is just so good

What would you give episode four zero to five?

I would definitely give it a five. Yep. I'm right

there with you. There is nothing in this that

I Can't even take a point off for tracksuits

not being there because the way I see this series

after the first four episodes The first three

were, like I've said, kind of like the, like

you fight through the beginning parts of the

video game, you get to the, even though Maya,

in the grand scheme of things, is a mid -level

boss kind of thing, because there's obviously

somebody above her, but in this episode we have

Maya and Yelena. Those are your boss battles

for this episode, and those felt like... Holy

crap, this is the end of the game kind of thing

because at the end of this. For her own safety,

Clint basically breaks up the partnership. Right.

Right. And we know that there are still two big

battles to come because just from all the promos,

we know that there is a battle that happens when

Clint is in the dress, you know. the dress, um,

suit slash, um, was it the white, the white shirt

and the black jacket and Kate's dress, you know,

so you have that, that battle coming up. And

then we have the big one, which I think is going

to be the, the, the end battle, um, you know,

in Rockefeller center with the tree having fallen

and the New Yorker in me cries. Every time I

see that. Yeah, there's, you know, just like

in Massachusetts and in Boston and wherever else,

there's very few things in New York that you

want to mess with. And the tree in Rockefeller

Center is not one of them. Nope. However, the

tree, apparently the Fox News tree is one of

them. Yes, folks, it's spelled F -A -U -X. Yep.

But yeah. But but yeah, so yeah, that that that

tree that happened in New York. Oh, and what

was it some they they the the folks who do the

show that the trio belong to, they had talked

about how it was like ruining Christmas and ruining

Hanukkah. And then one of the late night talk

shows were like, No, if it was rude, if it was

if it was Ruining Hanukkah. It would have been

eight trees, you know on fire. Yeah Any feedback
