About this Episode

Mike and Allison dig into the first two episodes of Marvel's Hawkeye Disney+ series, discussing how the show adapts Matt Fraction's comic run, introduces Kate Bishop's origin, and balances MCU continuity with comic-book aesthetics. They break down Clint's hearing loss, Lucky the Pizza Dog, the tracksuit mafia, Rogers the Musical, and debate whether Hawkeye is actually a Christmas TV series. Plus, a preview of the new Hawkeye: Kate Bishop comic mini-series launching the same day.

This is writer Kelly Thompson and you're listening

to the Geekcast Radio Network. I'll be home for

Christmas. I promise. When I wore this suit,

I made a whole lot of enemies. You're a Hawkeye!

Who the hell are you? Some people have actually

called me... the world's greatest archer. Are

you one of those people? Hey, Dave. I should

be back in a day or two. Hang on a second. Things

have gotten... more complicated. Hello and welcome

to The Pull Bag. This is episode 461. That's

right, folks, 461 episodes. I am, of course,

G of Joe and Mike. And joining me, as always,

is Miss Allison Richards. Hello. Hello. And yeah,

it's time for Hawkeye. Oh my god. I have been

bouncing in my seat for like five months. Yes.

Yes, you have. Yes. My chair is very grateful

that the show aired. I'm sure it is at this point.

And this time around, because they released the

first two episodes, we will be doing spoilers

on the first two episodes of the Disney Plus

Hawkeye series. based off of the Matt Fraction

run, obviously, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It's gonna be the best Martin Christmas ever,

all right? Where would you like to start with

this? Because, wow, these two episodes... Yeah,

I think the first big thing to note that I noticed

was the fact that Matt Fraction is a consultant

producer. Mm -hmm. And so it makes me a little

bit more excited because it means that Fraction

is actually there in some way being consulted

on how his world and how his things work. So

I am much more appreciative of the effort that

they are putting into this series. and trying

to make it accessible to the MCU people as well

as the people who have read the Fraction run

in the comics. Right. But yeah, it really had

the aesthetic and I loved it. I mean, there's

purple everywhere, you know, and It was a seamless

blending of, you know, Hawkeye's life into the,

you know, Fraction's world. Right, yeah. Yeah,

absolutely. It was something that... I love how

they frame it in the beginning of episode one

where... You have all this stuff going on outside

of the Bishop family's world and then it starts

to affect them obviously because hello, this

is in the middle of 2012 it's in the middle of

the the the big battle at the end of Avengers

and It's again, it's another angle into briefly

into like into the outside of that battle kind

of thing so and it's you see how other you know

we always so sometimes we will complain about

yeah I know a lot of people complained about

how much damage was done in man of steel and

oh my god all those people in those buildings

holy crap kind of thing And, uh, this allows

us to see at least inside one family's world

from the outside of the battle. And I, I thought

it was great. I thought it was done so, so well.

And just those early brief glimpses that Kate

gets of Clint. Like she hasn't even like, she's

still a kid. She hasn't even really met him yet,

whatever kind of thing. She's. Yeah, I thought

the beginning of this first episode was really

really done. Well it was and So one of the things

that well another of the things I'm going to

say many things that I enjoyed So for those who

don't who haven't read the comics After Fraction

left the Hawkeye run. Mm -hmm That is where the

story of how Kate became to be a Hawkeye fan

was in those comics that followed on the heels

of Fraction. And it shows the story of how Kate

had gotten kidnapped to force her father to...

to to pay, you know a ransom mm -hmm and When

He re I think it's he refused the Avengers stepped

in to kind of Break up the hostage situation.

I mean, I don't have the comic I'm over my bookcase

But I'm kind of just trying to wing it from my

memory. But anyway, the one thing that Kate saw

Was that Clint was up on a building? Helping

and then he shot an arrow to stop somebody from

chasing her Yeah, and so You know knowing that

That her hero worshipping of him Comes from that

place of him saving her Both in comic and now

in the series it really Lends to that beginning

of where their relationship starts where she

starts as a fangirl Mm -hmm Yeah, yeah, that

was very very good that was again it's Because

you're adapting and working with the comics and

mixing it with Clint's MCU stuff mm -hmm it It's

just fun so far it's a lot of fun and Haley as

as Kate now I've only just started reading. A

few months a couple months ago I went ahead on

comics ology. And I bought the full omnibus of

the fraction run which basically includes everything

and it starts with young avengers I believe it's

young avengers number six so it starts out with

Kate. So seeing this start out with Kate on,

you know, we're supposed to be inside her world

on, as I said earlier, on the outside of what

was going on with the rest of the Avengers and

everything else and Clint and all that. I love

that that was done that way. I thought that was

so cool. Mm -hmm. Yeah, I do like that as well.

I'm still the luckiest woman in the world. Because

I am the greatest little girl in the world. Who

is not that little. I need to protect us. Kate,

that's my job. Okay? Whatever you need, I'm here

for you. I need a bow and arrow. I have them.

And I swear I've seen Jack somewhere, played

by Jack Duquesne, played by Tony Dalton. I swear

I've seen him from somewhere, but I'm looking

through his filmography. And other than Better

Call Saul, which I have never watched, I... There's

nothing in his filmography, television or film

that I recognize, but he's one of those actors

that has that face, that voice. You're like,

where do I know him from kind of thing? Yeah,

I'm quickly scanning as well. Yeah, it took me

a moment to realize. what his last name was based

on his relationship with Armand, and Armand,

and all the Armands. And I'm just like, oh my

gosh, this is like going another level and I

need to see how they're going to handle this.

Yes, absolutely. Because it's like... I think

I've said it previously, I am excited to see

how much of Clint's background they are going

to finally reveal. Yes. Because his background

has always been the secret one. You know, not

even his teammates, only Natasha knew the secrets.

And even then, it was sometimes. So... Just,

um... You know... Jack... and Clint, they don't.

It's like they don't know about each other yet,

but it's on Clint's side. I don't think we know

if Jack is aware that Clint is in town. Yeah.

But I really hope that they bring this out and

they show us where these two came from together.

Cause the one thing that I know from a lot of

swordsmen is that they can tell who trained them

by watching their sword technique. So to me,

that means there's a pretty good chance that

Jack recognizes who Ronin is just from watching

him fight. Absolutely. Yeah, most definitely.

Yeah. And I love the whole thing with her, with

Kate and her mom, like that whole dynamic. I

thought that was really fun. And there's a bunch

of things there that have yet to be, you know,

explored. But overall, it was like, wow, dang.

Yeah. I know where her mother sits in comic history,

but seeing that her dad is dead, or as far as

we know, because you know we never saw the body,

you know, it's going to be interesting to see

what parts of Kate's parents' backstories are

going to be showcased for the... for the mob

side. Yeah, absolutely. I know that young people

think they're invincible and rich people think

they're invincible and you have always been both.

You're not. You will get hurt. Don't go out looking

for us. It's going to be so interesting to see

how that plays out. What did you think of? What

did you think of the prank? Which one the the

bell tower Okay, I actually don't understand

how that would have happened but I can see you

know the comedy in it Especially since it's also

named that tower is named after Obadiah from

Tony from Iron Man. Uh huh. Yup. So it needed

to go down anyway. Yeah. Ain't that the truth?

It's kind of like how old is that clock tower

really if it's named after a dude who, you know,

who's only maybe like 20, 30 years old in popularity?

Because he looked to be about 50, so he figured

by 20s, 30s. He's making a name for himself.

Yeah. Uh, I also loved how Clint is doing the

father thing and basically shoving the kids.

He's not shoving his kids off, but he's basically

like, okay, we gotta go. Daddy has to go take

care of some stuff. And, and, and the daughter

is like, does the, you know, Are you sure about

this? Are you gonna be home for Christmas? Yes,

I'm gonna be home for Christmas. I promise Yeah,

I was heard that one too many times Yeah, I'm

sure she has Yeah, so that brings me to a comment

that I read online. Okay, I do not remember who

Who brought it up or who said it? First but the

comment is about how how Hawkeye is the MCU's

attempt at Die Hard. Here we go. Okay. Welcome

to the party, pal! No, it's not. So I'll put

the audio probably right here. Your problem is

branding. No, my problem is you. In this ninja

suit and that people are trying to kill you because

of this ninja suit the whole thing's a problem

I'm going to solve today I was really excited

about the idea of on Disney Plus doing a long

-form storytelling version of it I think it's

a more accessible way to learn about a character

even for myself because you know he's part of

a giant sort of universe. How do you get into

the real backstory and the understanding of the

character a bit more? Long form of storytelling,

you know, in a series is a better accessible

way, I think. It's great. So we could do a six

hour movie instead of like a two hour movie.

Partnering up with the female Hawkeye and there's

a lot of opportunities to expand the storytelling.

Is Hawkeye a Christmas series? It's definitely

like a holiday event series for sure. For sure.

There's a reason why it's been released on November

24th, and it'll end on Christmas. I mean, it

plays holiday music on the teaser and the trailer,

right? I think you answered your own question.

I don't have to be here. I don't have to be here.

You can answer your own questions. Uh -huh. I

sent you the Vanity Fair career timeline of Jeremy

Renner. Yes. And in that, they ask him, so is

Hawkeye a Christmas TV series? And he's like,

of course it is. It has, have you seen the trailers?

It's got Christmas music all over it. Hell, at

the end of the second episode, they're playing

the Christmas song again, you know, as the credits

roll. And my thinking has always been the difference

between what is a Christmas movie versus what

is a movie that takes place at Christmas time.

It is. If you're doing Christmas activities,

if you're going to see a giant Christmas tree

in Central Park or wherever, whatever. Right.

You know, the gingerbread houses, the Christmas

holiday Hallmark movie marathon, because Hallmark

makes like a thousand Christmas movies a year.

I know, I've watched every single one of them.

I don't watch them all anymore, but that's a

whole other discussion we can have. I don't see

it as... I don't see it as a diehard thing, because

diehard... Was much more and obviously diehards

a movie. This is a six episode TV series these

first two episodes to me Even though I know they're

like something like 40 or 50 minutes each They

actually felt like two hour. I've said this with

every Every episode of every Marvel television

show that they've released so far every episode

feels like a two -hour Marvel movie So no, I

don't think like What I will say and what I will

end up being quoted for is Hawkeye is more of

a Christmas TV series than die hard is a Christmas

movie Yeah, you're gonna get you're gonna get

hit on so hard for that. Yeah, it's okay So can

I tell you why I believe it actually would work

in this way? Okay, sure So the pitch What do

you call it? Where's the actual pitch for for

die -hard? John McClain has to go give something

to give a gift to his wife his ex -wife and kids

and he gets stuck in a tower and has to Beat

the bad guys. I don't know. It says alright,

so basically Here's here's here's what? Here's

what I have. So, a cop is trying to get home

for Christmas to his family, and it is interrupted

by a group of terrorists trying to take over

an area or, in this case, the office building.

So Hawkeye is a, you know, soldier, spy, avenger,

who's trying to get home to his family for Christmas,

but gets interrupted by a group of tracksuit

mafia who are trying to take over an area. So...

I... Okay, so... I will say, because I am actually

looking at the... There are nine taglines for

Die Hard. It will blow you through the back wall

of the theater. Obviously that doesn't count,

that doesn't matter. 40 stories, 12 terrorists,

one cop. Now I guess technically you could modify

that to, you know... Those aren't pitch lines.

No, they're tag lines. But like, I'm just looking

at these and I'm trying to think of how to translate

these into being diehard but for Hawkeye kind

of things. I don't know. I mean, do we really

need another diehard? Do we need an MCU diehard

argument really? Right, yes. Like I said, I agree

with Jeremy Renner. It is a Christmas television

series. Also, Jeremy Renner on Jimmy Fallon mentioned

that when he first took the role, he didn't want

to be a 50 -year -old who's wearing tights, and

now he's a 50 -year -old wearing tights. And

he also said that he'd be more than willing to

come back and reprise the role again if they

just wanted to do a West Coast Avengers thing.

And I'm just like, we have Kate Bishop. We have

Lucky. We're going to have America Chavez. Can

we do Young Avengers West Coast Avengers? I very

much enjoyed these first two episodes. The action,

the suspense, the whole mystery around Jack and

sucks that his dad was killed, but okay. Cause

I liked that guy. He was, he was cool. No, no,

no, no. Jack's uncle. I always, I keep thinking.

Yeah, I'm on the third. Yeah. Yeah, I'm on the

third. Oh Lord. And I am really wondering about

these whole monogrammed butterscotches. Like,

how much did that cost? Monogrammed butterscotch?

And who the hell monograms butterscotch? Anyway.

breaks people with too much money. That's true.

At least you don't have a pizza socket that we

know of. When it comes to Lucky Pizza Dog, I

dug it so much. I wasn't so hot on Lucky in the

comic. Now, I'm still trying to, probably after

we finish this recording, I'm actually going

to go and read a few issues in the omnibus to

kind of, you know... Fill my my mind with Hawkeye

stuff between now and the next time we record

But I remember eight years ago. I was I was like

lucky the pizza dot what? And I just I just didn't

get it then so but in this how she found him

was great How she saved him was great how he

you know Goes up to the bad guys and tries to

stop the bad guys. I love that and then obviously

him eating the pizza That's great. Yeah, and

for the most part, the only difference in that

is that it's Kate who saves Lucky in the series.

Versus it's Clint in the comic, yeah. But don't

be hating on that dog! That dog's got an art

score, right? I'm not hating on the dog now.

I just didn't get it back then. Yeah. That's

past Mike. That Mike was weird. Well, I'm still

weird, but, you know, I mean, that was like...

Yeah. I announced it on my Twitter the other

day. The Marvel Unlimited Infinity Comics, which

is the free online ones that are only there.

We've talked about it for, you know, Jeff the

land shark. Right. Talked with Kelly. Well, they

just started a lucky the pizza dog one, too.

Oh, wow Yep The first one was adorable season

and the season finale for it's Jeff came up this

week, too and I was just like Like we were watching

you were flipping through it at the Thanksgiving

table because this is actually a Thanksgiving

comic and I just introduced my in -laws to the

world of Jeff the Landshark. Somewhere, somehow,

Kelly, you know, her ears were ringing over Thanksgiving

dinner. Very cool, very cool. Yes, what else

do we want to talk about these first two episodes?

What haven't we hit yet? I am so happy they are

making him death. Yes. That is so good. Because

even when he does that little flashback montage

of how he's closing his hearing, look at that

explosion because he was in the exact center

of that explosion. That would have taken his

hearing. Yeah. I think that's the other thing

I really like about Hawkeye is that you get the

realism of people get injured. Because everybody

else has like some kind of weird healing factor

or they have a machine or technology or science

Whereas Clint has you know Band -aids Yeah, so,

you know him losing his hearing it You know after

endgame actually makes so much sense. Yeah Nate

signing I love you dad as they're getting in

the car. That was so good That was just so good,

you know and and then him signing back. I love

you more Yeah, no that made me really proud because

you don't get a lot of you don't get a lot of

good You know, I am NOT thinking of the right

word Bethany. What is it when you are? Being

positive about a disability Is it is it I know

it's ableism is the bad one Being a good person

and realizing the world is made of multiple people

yeah, okay, so yeah, that's the answer Disability

representation is nice. Yes, so Yes, I technically

have five but sorry Bethany is like pointing

at me because ever since she heard me say young

Avengers She's been like playing around her computer

trying to figure him out But we do have this

will make five young Avengers then because that's

Kate Cassie Eli, which is The the son of the

first black Captain America And then Tommy and

Billy So that's five young Avengers And then

we know we're gonna get America I think America

comes either in Either in multiverse of madness

or the doctor strange one that is the doctor

strange one. Oh, yeah Alright, then it is multiverse

of madness is where she comes in But yes, but

no back to the to the to the deaf representation

and then not only that But then you have Maya

Lopez You know at the very very end and that's

echo who is another deaf character Yeah, they

are really I don't want to I don't mean this

is a bad thing, but they are really playing up

the whole deaf hearing impaired, you know, that

whole community. And you don't see that a lot

in television or film. You don't. And Hawkeye,

in their comics, that's not something they shade

away from. They have a whole entire episode in

sign language on that comic, in sign language.

And even in, what is it, Hawkeye and Deadpool's

team up. There's a good part of that in sign

language. The people who write Hawkeye never

shy away from being positive and showing that

he functions perfectly just like any other person.

His disability doesn't hold him back. I'm so

happy that we're getting that because all right,

so here's my In school when I walk to go and

substitute in the fifth grade they have a wall

that talks about the the international bachelorette

Learner profiles and they have a photo of a different

Avenger next to each of the statements and then

they brought in like Wonder Woman and I'm sitting

there and I'm looking at all these and like always

Hawkeye is not involved in there and I'm just

like I looked at them and I'm like well why don't

you have these like they're like well we wanted

more you know we wanted more black representation

and we wanted more female representation or I'm

like technical difficulties let's move on shall

we I retire for what like five minutes and it

all goes to shit so as I'm walking down the hallway

there is a bulletin board that talks about the

learner profiles for students and it compares

each profile to an Avenger but that also has

Wonder Woman on it the only original Avenger

from MCU that's not on there is Hawkeye. And

I get upset that he's not there, so I went to

talk to them about it, and they're like, well,

we wanted more room on the board, you know, for

black representation and for female representation.

I'm like, yeah, I get that. That is great. You

still have room on the board. Hawkeye is your

disabled representation. Yeah. You know? So...

I figure my classroom next year, I'm already

planned that it's going to be a superhero themed

classroom design. And I will probably do something

similar to that for the learner profiles. But

you goddamn know Hawkeye is going to be up there.

I can just imagine your entire classroom is purple

and black. It probably will be. I already have

a Hawkeye Pop Funko on my desk at school, because

I have a student teacher desk. And he sits there

right by my pen thing. And it's in the Talon,

but unhooded. No, I am not a fan at all. I'm

not a fan of what? I'm not a fan of all of Hawkeye.

No. No. Allison likes Hawkeye? No, you don't

say. Also, let's see. What else do I like about

this? So we have already met the clown. We've

met him in both episodes. Yep. And the clown

is the one who actually has a thing for Hawkeye

and wants to hurt him badly. And this being the

Hawkeye, as Clint is, so yeah, he's Kazi, which

is the, he's the tracksuit dude with the floofy

hair and he lifted his fist up, yeah. So, and

for those, he's... Very prominent villain in

the second half of Fraction's Hawkeye. Very cool.

I think one of my favorite things in these first

two episodes is the fact that you have basically,

after we get Kate's introduction, after we see

what's going on with Hawkeye, with Clint, You

know, you basically have them on two missions.

She's trying to figure out what's going on with

Jack and what's going on with this black market

auction and the Ronan suit and all of that. Meanwhile,

Clint has to later go and track down the suit

after she gets out of it because her apartment

burns because the tracksuit. I got to say, and

I hate to say this, but I remember seeing the.

the fire, the Molotov cocktail scene in the trailer.

And even though it was good in the show, I find

it was much funnier in the trailer, which just,

you know, it goes in and it comes right back

out. But then, you know, you had the tracksuit

mafia guys, go ahead, throw another, I want you

to, you know. But I love how they're on. I'm

going to frost things up here, folks. They're

on two, uh, two paths in the woods. They're on

two roads here that eventually come back together

and they have to help each other. And I'm very

excited to see how each of these episodes, how

either they're working together or like specifically

back to back together, or if they're on. like

two separate sides of having to do things. And

it's going to be really fun because I've like,

I've watched these two episodes at least three

times now. Twice for me. And that's only because

our internet was on and off on Wednesday. So

I couldn't read. I watch it more than once. Yeah.

I, I woke up Wednesday morning. I'm like, Oh,

Guess I should watch this and I watched it and

I was like, oh very cool. And then earlier today

I'm like I need to watch this again so I can

remember things to talk about on the show and

at that time I recorded the audio and then I

went back and went and recorded specific lines

and all that good stuff In the second episode

LARP Oh, Lord. So coming from New York, that

is a very common thing to happen in Central Park

on weekends. Right. It is very common. And they

are that serious. And yes, there is always one

guy who makes the cranking noises. Yes. Nailed

it. So good. yeah it was yeah i'm sure there

are people who have a lot you know uh you know

communities who are like you know we're not that

bad especially you know the s the s a g s ea

sorry the s e s ea's you know are very different

than you know just you know run -of -the -mill

warpers you know that that is exactly what people

do and they have fun with it and it's exercise

for those who who who say that there's no you

know real um you know real life thing to it it's

making friends and you're actually exercising

because you're beating the shit out of people

with full -on swords I do love how at the end

of it, though, he's like, yeah, you're going

to take this back to the to the table or else,

you know, he goes, yeah, they will charge you.

And I'm like, oh, God, how much is a fake phone?

I don't want to know. But, you know, like, wow.

Noble Nura Vestland, thank you. I shall be regaling

my countrymen with this tale for many years to

come. I'm calling Clint. I can call you Clint?

Yeah. You could also take this to the front desk.

I can't have that show up on my credit card.

No, they will charge you. Yeah. No, but seriously,

thank you. I owe you one. Like, this has been

like the best day of my life. I can't say the

same. I mean, come on. You did have fun, right?

Glad I did it. Merry Christmas. You too. Clint?

Take care. Oh, I'm I'm grills nice to meet you

girls and that lady in the beginning like nope

You need to sign up you need to follow the rules

blah blah blah you ain't I don't care who you

are Talking to Clint like you go girl So I I

do not I foresee that we will be seeing girls

again. Oh Of course if if we don't it would be

kind of a shame because he's got a cool They

named a character. So, you know, he has But so

Grills is in the comics. Yeah He's just you know

a white dude and I'm so glad that they went out

of the bounds with that and me, you know a good

minor character, you know with diversity still

in mind Because that is the one thing that you

know, I was worried about with this with this

show was going to be finding ways that they would

be able to shake up the diversity since you know

Clint and Kate are you know both white and all

their villains the tracksuit mafias are russians

so they're technically all white yeah so it was

like where are we going where are they going

to find places that they can flip the script

Yeah, and I really really liked seeing that Yeah,

it was very cool and very interesting and I like

how Clint Made the whole approach. I like their

whole kind of like and I blame you for this now

at this point grills Grills is essential grills

is essentially Oh Fuck what's his name? Carl

he's essentially officer Winslow from not necessarily

from Family Matters, but he's Al Al Powell God,

how the hell could I forget his name? He's like

if if Clint is supposed to be John McClain then

grills is definitely Al Powell because that exchange

that they had about just let me kill you Come

on, just let me, no, no, no, I'm going to, you

know, the whole back and forth and then they

figured it out. Over so he could cut his head

off. He's like, no, trial by combat. He keeps

on going, I fought Thanos. Yeah, exactly. But

yeah, and then to burn the corpse and you just

see that face like what? Yeah, that was hilarious.

And did that sign up for being torched? Yeah,

no. No, no, no, no torchings, please No, I think

that this is It's a nice mix of everything in

The Marvel Cinematic Universe focusing on obviously

Clint and Kate I found that the story was very

balanced in both episodes The action is fun It's

not too over -the -top I don't care. Wait a minute.

Aren't you Hawkeye? Look, I'm not trying to cause

a scene here, all right? Out of respect. Wherever

the hell this is, but I'm plumbed out of patience.

So you got two choices, you understand? I could

take this, pretend sword, and you pretend to

die, and I take that suit. Or I'm gonna real

punch you, and you're gonna real fall down, and

I'm gonna take that suit. Just let me kill you.

I'll give you the suit. No. Come on, man. You're

a superhero in real life. This is as close as

I'm ever going to get to being one. Just work

with me. Let me kill you. And you basically have

a new superhero learning from the old superhero.

Not that she's immediately obviously going to

take over or anything like that. You know, they,

you know. I love that line in... I forget what

it's from, but it's where he... I think it's

from the trailer. What? I retire for five minutes

and everything goes to shit? Yeah, that's from

Civil War, so yeah. Oh yeah, that's where it's

from. That's right, it's from Civil War. I recorded

a whole bunch of various Hawkeyes. Yeah, go ahead,

sorry. It's the line that's like, I keep trying

to retire and things just keep pulling me back

in. Mm -hmm. Yeah. But it's one of those things

where it's going to be so much fun. And I hope,

like with all of the Marvel television, except

for Loki, I have not watched Loki yet. I still

haven't watched that. I'm really not into that

character. I have not watched it either, but

that is not because I don't want to because I

love Hiddles It is more for other shows have

been coming out at the same time and devoting

my attention to things like Superman and Lois

and Titans and What is it the other one discovery

of witches and all those things? Yeah. Yeah but

between Wandavision Falcon and Winter And was

there another one or no, it's this. It's between

those three so far, at least I have the ones

that I've watched, that I'm so digging it. And

I will eventually watch Loki. I mean, all of

it's on Disney Plus. I could watch it right now.

But like I said earlier in this episode, I'm

probably going to sit here and read a number

of the issues of the Fraction Run just to...

kind of stay in the Hawkeye lane and to get more

like, the more we get of Kate, the better. The

more she ends up in phase four, I find it's going

to be much, much better. And I don't know what

they have planned. I know they've said what's

planned for phase four or what's coming or whatever,

but from what I've seen, it's, it's nothing that

is like, I don't know. I'm not that jazzed for

phase four. And I think the reason why is because

the universe ended with end game, even though

it ended in a good way. I like these television

series. I like these small snippets of these

characters versus another 13 years of films.

And I'm not saying I don't want to watch any

of those, whatever ends up happening. But I don't

know. It just feels different after end game.

And it is different, obviously. Tony's gone.

Tony's dead. You know, Cap is off doing whatever

Cap does. And we have Falcon as Cap. And that's

fine. I love that. That's not a problem at all.

It's just, I don't know. I need to do some more

research on Phase Four because I'm not that stoked

for the actual films. versus whatever the TV

shows are going to be. I don't know. But as far

as these first two episodes go, spot on. There

wasn't anything for me that I found was like

taking points off or anything like that. There

wasn't anything that I disliked with them. I'm

trying to think of something that I disliked

so far. Well, I dislike that Kate Bishop looks

better in a tux than I do. I, I love the amount

of attention that they bring back to Natasha.

That was very good. Yes. Yeah. Um, especially

since like with, because we're going to have

to come back and talk about Rogers the musical.

Oh, yes we are. But the, him like focusing on,

on Natasha dancing and just, you know, You know,

you can tell that he's that he's got some serious,

you know trauma and PTSD from watching her, you

know off the cliff for him and You know between

that and between What do you call you have that

you have like just the battles in general and

You know, it's you can tell that he's very uncomfortable

You know When people are being all like, you

know, we appreciate you. We thank you. You're

our favorite. You can tell he's like uncomfortable

with all of that. Yeah. Rodgers the musical oh

I I cannot do this all day So That song is written

I believe by the guys who also wrote La La Land

and greatest showman, okay? Jeremy Renner did

not want to answer any questions about The future

that that's that that has if it has any future

beyond that right if they're gonna make an actual

You know turn off the dark kind of thing. Yeah

Yeah so You know or even if it's like, you know,

like a black market musical that shows up like

every you know couple of years somewhere The

thing I learned on one of those, you know, you

may have missed this videos because I try to

watch them and see how much I actually did miss,

which is usually nothing when it comes to the

show. But I did miss that the knife wielding

citizen in the business suit, he like does a

twist and he has like a big line. That's Adam

Paschal. That's cool. Yep. Yep. Bethany's giving

me the face that is Adam Paschal. They reshowed

it close up and I could see it then So now I'm

like Rogers the musical meets rent I don't know

what to think of this okay, so Have you guys

seen? Is it yeah, you've seen Batman Beyond right?

Yeah, you've seen the episode out of the past

It's in season two or season three, I forget

off the top of my head. Is that the one where

Talia comes back? Yes. Okay. So in the beginning

of that, they go to, you know, a superstitious

cowardly lot. I am vengeance. I am the night.

I am Batman. There is a song that good folks

sing Song that good folks sing Batman About a

hero on the wing Hero on the wing Batman I am

Gotham's darkest night The villain's darkest

fright Turn on the signal light For Batman Batman

Lighten up, it's your birthday. Don't remind

me. Good work, Cape Crusader. Once again, you've

saved our fair city from those vile miscreants.

They were no problem, Commissioner. For as we

all know, criminals are. A superstitious, cowardly

lot. They plan and plot, but they always get

caught. Their evil schemes all come to naught.

A superstitious, cowardly lot. It took me weeks

to get tickets for this show. It's sway. It's

schwarbage My first thought my first thought

as soon as the guy who plays Steve Says, you

know and I can do this all day. I Kind of wanted

Clint at some point to say oh, this is schwarbage

Because that was my first thought was Superstitious

Caroline Lott musical from Batman Beyond when

I saw Roger's the musical. Yes. Oh my god. Yes.

Yes. Also, I love the whole where he's talking

to his daughter. First, I am so glad that Clint

turning his hearing aid off when he doesn't want

to listen to something is canon. Yes. I have

like a fight with some, not a fight, but you

know, like a Twitter conversation with somebody

about whether Clint does that in the comics.

So you know what? The fact it's now canon in

the MCU, thank you. Thank you, whoever wrote

that line. Yeah, absolutely. But anyway, so I

loved where he was like, I was there. I know

what happened. You know who wasn't there? That

guy. And he points to Ant -Man. And I I I love

the reasoning at me and is there because it's

a it is a a Call to the comics right? Hank Pym

was an original was one of the four original

Avengers. Yep, but there was no wasp there. So

I'm like Hmm, we're just representing the boy

But yeah, anyway. But yeah. And then just, you

know, yeah, I'm sitting there and I'm like, I

need to, if I'm going with this, you know, I

am actually going to get alcohol. So much fun

when you're drunk. Yeah. Yeah. Hawkeye so far.

I'm loving it. I think it's great. I Do too,

but you already knew I was going to say that

well. Yes. I mean, you know We thought it was

great with that first trailer. I mean, you know

Seriously this this television series even though

it's only a six episode series has some of the

best trailer work I've ever seen and also those

end credit scenes and the the intro credit for

Kate showing her growing up. Beautiful, beautiful,

totally in Aja's style. It is just amazing. It

was so good. Of course, I need to know more words

for amazing and good. It was stupendous. It was

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, that's what

it was. Yeah, no, it was just so awesome that

they made it feel like, even though it's tied,

it's MCU version of it, they still made it feel

like the comic book jumped onto the screen. Yeah.

And that is what is so good about it. Scrolled

through both episodes at one point and so far

no end credit scenes I'm wondering which episodes

are going to besides obviously the last one might

I'm wondering which of the six episodes are gonna

get end credit scenes besides the last one Well,

well, I guess we will see because I think it

also is going to depend on Where Kate goes next?

Yeah We know being that this is a Christmas thing

on Disney, we know Clint's going to make it home

for the holidays with his kids. Even if he joins

Christmas morning as the kids are waking up and

he is coming in the door dressed as Santa, we

know he's coming home in time for Christmas.

There's no way that they would do that to that

family after everything that they've already

gone through. But it will be interesting because,

you know, are they going to go the Young Avengers

route? Which means we'll be seeing something

about her meeting America and introducing America.

You know, we know at the end of WandaVision that

Wanda was trying to find a way to bring the boys

back. So do we see the boys come back? You know,

and her meeting the boys. Do we see her meeting

Eli? And is Cassie going to be popping back in?

Because you're pretty sure that if that was a

red carpet event to see Rodgers the musical,

Scott, Hope, and Cassie are probably going to

go out there to see it. So yeah, that's going

to be a lot. And it's also going to be a lot

about where Yelena is going to come in. Yeah,

because somebody gonna have to come in as Black

Widow somewhere because obviously Natasha's no

longer with us in the universe. So briefly, phase

four includes Black Widow Shang -Chi, the eternal

Spider -Man, no way home. Dr. Strange, Multiverse

of Madness, Thor, Love and Thunder, Black Panther,

Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Guardians of the

Galaxy Vol. 3, Ant -Man and the Wasp, Quantumania,

I still think they should have called that Quantum

Boogaloo, but whatever, and then Fantastic Four

for films, for the TV series, obviously WandaVision,

Falcon and Winter, Loki, What If, Hawkeye, Moon

Knight, She -Hulk, Secret Invasion, so maybe...

Kate would show back up in Secret Invasion, who

knows? Ms. Marvel, the Guardians of the Galaxy

Holiday Special, Ironheart, Armor Wars, and then

an untitled Wakanda series. Well, out of all

of those, I would see the Young Avengers not

showing up at Secret Invasion. I would see them

either showing up in Ms. Marvel, and having Ms.

Marvel become one of the Young Avengers. Okay.

Or I would see them showing up in, um... Darn

it. Ironheart. Okay. Because Morgan would be

a Young Avenger. Yep. So I would see them showing

up in one of those. But you know see as things

change who knows they may show up in you know

Loki season 2 you never know yeah Anything else

we want to bring up before I run through the

closing Oh my god, there's still so much I want

to bring up but Okay, so a couple of not so obvious

Easter eggs, okay Alright, so Kate's aunt Moira

Brandon? Moira Brandon is actually the person

who gave Hawkeye her mansion on the West Coast

which became the headquarters for West Coast

Avengers. Very cool, very cool. So it's nice

to see she's still giving Hawkeye housing. So

there's that one. One that's very important to

me is that they did a very quiet 9 -11 memorial

in there. because when Clint dresses up as a

fireman, his helmet has, um, 54 on it. I saw

that. Yeah. And that's the group, that's the

group of firemen who lost their lives at the

towers trying to help people. So, you know, that

was a beautiful tribute to them because, you

know, Clint is an everyday man. You know, These

are our everyday man heroes are our police and

our firefighters Yeah, so, you know, so that's

why I love that they weren't that it was the

LARPing were mainly fire and policemen I love

that that constant coming back to the everyday

heroes as well within Hawkeye Yeah, absolutely

What else I mean there's a whole bunch of obscure

like if you looked at the Numbers on the paddles

and they relate back to swordsman episode at

the comic will comic issues in the Avengers room

There's another number That is supposed to be

related to Kang Which is the the lot number on

the watch What was it with that watch because

I yet. The only thing I can tell you is that

when it shines on it, it's red and gold. So it

has to belong to Tony. Yeah, that's the only

thing I can think of. But I'm like, out of all

the stuff that they, you know, had at that auction,

at least the stuff they showed out, you know,

the the Ronin sword, the suit, and then they're

breaking in there to get they blew a hole in

the wall to get a watch. Yep. So I really want,

I hope they don't drop that, you know, that thing

and they hope that comes back to being like why

that watch is so important. But yes, there's

all those little bits and pieces that go back

to them. All the names on the buzzers when Kate's

getting to her aunt, those are all like different

crew members. Um, I gotta say that remind that

whole like I gotta go to my aunt's apartment

that whole thing even though it wasn't an actual

It wasn't a brownstone was it? It was more of

a yeah We literally have one part family in there.

Yeah, exactly. So But that whole scene reminded

me of Home Alone 2 when Kevin does go to his

family's brownstone who are in Florida and he

has to defend the, like, seriously, that whole

apartment scene. I was like, really? Wow. This

is interesting. Cool. Fun. Yeah. No. Um, but

I will also tell you as a New Yorker that pushing

multiple buttons and like trying to be like,

I got a delivery and getting somebody to open

door works every time. Yeah. This is why rich

people live in buildings with doorman is because

the doorman keep that from happening. Yep. Exactly.

God bless them. Oh boy. Alrighty then, folks.

I think that's it. What are we going to rate

episode one? Zero to five. Five plus plus plus

plus plus. Yeah, I think it's five. I think it's

a 10 all around for both because I mean double

fives because it was so enjoyable. It was so

fun. I will tell you, I enjoyed two more than

one. Right. And it's just because we started

to see the dynamic between Kate and Clint. Yep.

But poor Hawk, I did not want to be a larper

at all. I especially loved, like, at the point

where, you know, the guy starts doing the clinking

noises, and he's like, I'm begging you, kill

me. I'm like, yeah, no, I would be there at about

that point today. Pretty much, yeah, absolutely.

Oh, so, no, the only other thing I was going

to bring up is that there is a... a new comic

that dropped the same day as the Hawkeye comic

dropped. Alright, we should technically make

you cooler, but I think with all the scary stuff

that's happened since the Avengers appeared,

people don't want that cynical, cool thing anymore.

They want sincerity. Is that right? Not self

-seriousness, but heart -on -your -sleeve sincerity.

I see. You are very contained. You keep your

cards close to your vest, which you wear over

a suit of armor and, like, 16 other layers of

self -protection. All of which, under, finally,

is your heart. So, not exactly on your sleeve.

Again, not really trying to sell anything. But

you do anyway. Okay, Kate. What am I selling,

then? It's certainly not Halloween costumes or

toys off the shelf. Inspiration, Clint. All right,

so what happened was today, well, no, on Wednesday,

the same day that the Hawkeye TV show aired,

we also got the first issue of Nuke. mini series

in the comic world called Hawkeye Kate Bishop

by Marika Nakam and It's basically it is following

Kate on a little trip to a What is it? This is

like a big resort that they are going to in the

Hamptons. Yeah, and she ends up, you know getting

involved with a jewel heist and You know, it's

probably a trap. So yeah, so if you need a little

bit to go on You know while you wait for the

next episode Definitely hit up your local comic

book stores grab a copy, you know based on if

we get any buddy giving some reviews or comments

I do have a copy of the dish digital edition

that I would love to give to somebody next week.

Awesome, awesome. You heard it here first, folks.

We're giving away free comics here at the Geekcast

Radio Network's The Bull Bag. I was so scared.

What happened to you? Nothing. I went out the

back. Hey. Hey. That was crazy. An explosion?

Some kind of black market auction? I gotta go.

Love you. I love you too. since when did everybody

start saying i love you to everybody all the

time that was my mom since when did your heart

shrink three sizes when a little girl in ninja

costume stole my christmas so since you mentioned

mentioned the new series i want to run down at

least of what's listed so far i want to run down

the solicits for each of these issues so starting

with issue one Kate's home or at least back to

New York and as much as she wants to go back

to where her friends her chosen family are She's

changed since she was last on the East Coast

So she's picked up a pit stop case first a confidence

booster to prove to herself She's making the

right decision and not going to backslide into

her past just by changing time zones Besides,

the case is perfect. Swanky Resort? Check. Jewel

Heist? Check. Almost Definitely 100 % a Trap?

Check. Don't miss this exciting new mini -series

from New York Times bestselling writer... Marika

.com and artist Enid Balam. So that's for issue

one and that is out now. It released November

24th, 2021. Issue two of five comes out December

22nd, so right before Christmas. Before Kate

can fully wrap her head around the fact that

her estranged sister, Susan, has reappeared.

What? And was the one who invited her to resort

Chateau in the first place. What? It says this

in the in the stuff folks. And that this case

is definitely not going to allow much in the

way of pool time. She gets pulled into something

she doesn't does know how to handle a little

girl staying at the resort has gone missing.

But in spite of the fact that she's basically

an Avenger. The resort staff don't want her investigating,

so now Kate has three mysteries on her hands.

Where's the girl? What's the resort hiding? And

what does this have to do with her family in

the first place? Coming in January, January 12th,

2022, issue three of five. Normally, rescuing

a kidnapped little girl doesn't result in being

surrounded by mind -controlled resort guests

who want to attack you, but they - Oh, you have

more mind -controlled people in Kate's life!

But then being Hawkeye doesn't involve a whole

lot of normal. Kate's vacation itinerary keeps

shortening. One, escape the hordes. Two, interrogate

Susan about what the heck is really going on.

And three, stop the bad guys before they hurt

or mind control anyone else ever again. Yep.

And finally, at least of the ones that Comixology

has listed, number four of five releases, oh

my god. It releases on my birthday, February

9th, 2022. Next year, folks, I will be the answer

to everything. I am the answer to everything

right now. Yes, well. Oh, boy. And actually,

I think the last issue is like a week before,

it's literally a week before my birthday. Oh,

wow. Very cool. So for number four, Kate Bishop

hates the circus. Turns out that the Resort Chateau

is being run by none other than the Circus of

Crime as nothing more than a new and exciting

way to part rich people from their money, except

the signet ring that they stole from Susan unlocks

her safe at Bishop Manor. which contains something

way, way more dangerous than stacks of cash.

Also, the resort is set to self -destruct and

the guests and Susan and Lucky are still inside.

Worst vacation ever. Oh, no. Not the circus of

crime. I know this is Marvel, but the first thing

I thought of once I said that sentence, I was

like... the red circle red circle gang or the

red circus gang from uh from batman forever anyway

oh oh boy yeah that because yes yes somehow clinton's

past has to come in on tape of course i mean

they are both hawkeye i mean it's not you know

like hawkeye senior and junior or anything so

you know Of course, his past has to haunt her.

Why not? And he can never retire, apparently.

Nope. Because I'm also listening to, I finally

started listening to Wastelanders' Hawkeye audiobooks

over on Spotify. Okay. And I'm two issues in.

And yeah, Clint can never retire, even when he

tries. Yeah, that cool that sound clip is gonna

make a lot of a lot of appearances folks I Retire

for five minutes and everything goes to shit

I keep trying to retire and I keep getting pulled
