About this Episode

The hosts review two episodes of Jem and the Holograms: "Hot Time in Hawaii," where both bands compete in a Battle of the Music Stars in Honolulu while the Misfits sabotage the competition, and "The Princess and the Singer," which features Kimber's doppelgänger—a princess from the fictional country of Moravonia. They discuss plot holes, animation errors, character inconsistencies (particularly Rio's unclear romantic interests), and how the show handles Hawaii and fantasy settings.

Hi, this is Christy Marks, creator of Gem and

the Holograms, and you're listening to a truly

outrageous podcast with Mike, Amy, and Nicole.

It's showtime, Synergy. Hello and welcome to

Showtime synergy the gym review podcast here

on the geek cast radio network I am M and joining

me are my hologram girls Amy and Nicole. Hello

Aloha here. Yeah Yes, and it makes sense cuz

you know this episode Aloha It's just a habit

of me I didn't even put the two together There's

gonna be a hot tub time machine in Hawaii. Ladies

and gentlemen, I wish there was a time machine

I would love to be going to Hawaii just randomly

just for no reason at all. I know Absolutely.

Absolutely. So we have two episodes today hot

tub hot time in Hawaii In Hawaii as a princess

and the singer And I didn't even like hot tub

time machine that much it was an alright movie,

but it wasn't like I still can't believe Isn't

Cusack in that I can't believe John. I can't

believe John Cusack did that movie I love him,

but Jesus Christ Can't believe I actually haven't

seen it, so I need to No, you don't you're not

missing anything. Yes two hours of your life

that you don't have to get back Ironically they

do go back to the 80s Yeah, there's that Alright,

so we are gonna get into it with hot time in

Hawaii after this It is time for a hot time in

Hawaii. The air date for this episode was October

18th, 1986. The Misfits and the Holograms are

both invited to compete in the Battle of the

Music Stars, a Battle of the Network Stars type

event in Honolulu. Eric's hired thug Zipper supplies

the Misfits with rigged sports equipment to give

them the edge in the competition. Later on, Kimber

is kidnapped and the Holograms have to find her

in time to compete. The featured songs are We

Are Misfits in Hawaii by The Misfits and How

You Play the Game by Jim and the Holograms. You

can clearly tell, this is one plot note that

I have, you can clearly tell this is basically

from the 80s because I've been flying since I

was, I don't know, six years old, so 1980, I've

been flying since the year this episode came

out. We never had bars on airplanes. Never. Well,

they're also flying first class. So doesn't I've

seen I saw first class as a kid They did not

have a bar in first class. I have seen one plane

when I went to Australia the first class was

Because it was a double decker was above and

we kind of took a look and there was a bar up

there Okay. Yeah, if it's a double decker, I

could say yeah fine, but it looked like a regular

-sized airplane to me Regular like a 747 or even

a 767 but you know, it's Just again one of those

things where airlines would never do that today

I do have to point out that just you know, they

put a lot of you know work into Flying them out

there in this really posh plane But you know,

they kind of dropped the ball when it came to

the rest of the competition Yeah They kind of

did. What else did you think about the plot of

the episode, Amy? This is that typical exercise

make you a winner episode, you know? There were

a lot of little holes. There were a lot. This

is probably one. No, don't get me wrong. I love

Hawaii. Okay. Hawaii is awesome. I've been there

twice. Nicole, I know you've lived there for

a while. I didn't live there, but I spent a lot.

I thought you lived there. Oh, your sister lived

there. I'm the only one in my family that hasn't

lived there. So I think I need to keep up with

family tradition. My parents met got married

and lived there. My sister lived there. And so

I've been over there. Yeah, I know who I had

that just You know, the, the going into the volcano

and, and like, you know, being in there for like

less than five minutes and suddenly it goes from

nighttime to daytime. And I have a lot of miss

moments on this episode. The plot was, was, I

thought it was kind of cute, but it's at the

same time. I'm like, uh, it's kind of like, Hey,

you can't so much potential to do other things

in Hawaii. There's so many other things and you

do a competition there. They don't even sing.

It's, it's a, it's a exercise or whatever competition

to see who's like the best. What the best, the

best band that's the most fit. And it's just

like. you know so they can what sing a song for

somebody else like for their mayor or something

like that like yeah i i yeah i was like hey there's

so much more you could do with hawaii and you

do that what about you Nicole thoughts on the

plot um i i agree with Amy this is one of the

ones that has a lot of holes in it there was

it's kind of like the china one it was really

sped up and it felt it's really weird it's one

of those episodes that fell short what i'm saying

is they had to make up for it so they replayed

both music videos at the end so just like that

was really a quick episode so yeah but again

like amy i'm i love hawaii i i wish i could live

there um but and So, there's a few things they're

like, oh, that's kind of fun. Like, I wish I

could have saw more of the Luau girls. That would

have been fun. Yeah, but it just seems like it

was a good idea. The competition, they could

have had like a hula hula part, you know, where

they had to do the same thing as the hula girls

and see how fast they're gonna, you know, learn

that. And they didn't do that. It was just like,

hey, let's let's do a kind of like a cross between

Hawaii. Let's do like an Olympic. slash, you

know, exercise slash and whatever, we'll, you

know, put it in Hawaii. Yeah, that sounds good.

See, well, the thing is, it's like the, the concept

was okay. It was just, they, they could have

done it at any location. They didn't have to

do in Hawaii, but even like the swimming competition,

they didn't even swim in the ocean. Kimber was

practicing there, but they actually held it in

a pool. Yeah. Which didn't make sense. And then

like the track meet and everything. It means

just an excuse to go to Hawaii, which I don't

blame him. I'd use an excuse to go to Hawaii.

I would too. I would totally use an excuse to

go to Hawaii. In fact, I have. I had a friend

that lived there for a couple of years. And so,

you know, she's like, Hey, come visit me. And

I was like, that's a good excuse. Anyhow. Yeah.

So I mean, there's some good, there was some

fun moments in it. There were. There were. I

have a few of those, you know. Yeah. For me,

it... I don't know what it is about anybody except

Kristy Marks writing the episodes that just,

they all kind of fall flat. I'm starting to notice

that too. I mean, like, there's no... You get

the odd ones with writers that are not, like,

on board with the rest of them. exactly I mean

you know that and you know honestly no offense

to the writers but I mean it's like one of those

things where you know this is written by Beth

Bornstein now she is written trying to look here

I know she's written a few other ones yeah she

well haha no wonder we made the the connection

to adventure in China she wrote that one too

um so yeah this is her second episode overall

in the series and honestly she made kimber almost

look like she was a whore Because if you think

about it, Kimber was all Gaga over the Jeff guy

during the movie stuff. Whatever happened to

Jeff? Did she just like... Oh, what happened

to the guy at the ski resort? Yeah, Kimber is

not the most... Yeah, she's not a good role model.

She just goes for the cute guys, like at the

very beginning and, you know, then later in the

next episode. She has her way with them and then

leaves them. Yeah, she's a player. She's totally

a player. Female player. There you go. Oh my

god. She is. She is. Alright, let's get to the

hologram moments. hologram moments Nicole you

can go first since you only have one I only have

one and well okay the thing is it could be a

misfit moment too but I thought it was awesome

I think it's awesome that zipper takes his shark

designing from Hannah Barbera come on that shark

looks just like Jabberjaws I thought it was sauce

Amy. I had such a grin on my face. I'm like,

that's Chapper John. Nice. Brilliant. Okay, so

Aasha may not be able to drive, but she can really

run in an aerobics class. Woohoo! Yeah. I like

how they say, oh, it's a real kick. She's cool.

She's awesome. She, you know what? I think maybe

from now on, instead of letting her drive, she's

like, okay, ladies, let's go. We're going to

run it. Go! I think Jerica used an excuse this

door just to get out of there like oh brilliant

I also like the fact that Steve you know spurns

pizzazz cuz anytime a guy spurns pizzazz is always

gonna be in a hologram moment for me And again,

we have another episode where Rio is missing

until the very end. Oh, I don't. I was actually

watching this when I was watching this yesterday.

He comes walking in and I went, oh, no. It was

so late. I grunted. I'm like, it's just so naturally

came out of me. It's like, oh, there he is. There

he is. And again, who is he with? Who is he there

for? Yeah, that's that. We'll get my dude. Especially

since next episode he when they're doing the

whole ship ride thing. He's So it's like dude,

who are you with man is so confusing being with

those two girls Figured it out You it's funny

you mentioned Hannah Barbera because One of my

they actually do say that, you know, how do you

stop this crazy thing in this episode? I thought

that was hilarious. Um, and then, you know, Nicole

thought of Jabber Jaw. I thought of Jaws. I'm

like, dun, dun, dun, dun. Kimber's going to get

it. That shark was not awesome enough to be Jaws.

Okay. It was Jabber Jaw. Unfortunately, I put

it in the misfit moment. I thought it was hilarious

that Zipper got one up on the misfits and made

them each shark. That was awesome. I forgot about

that. Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I mean,

it was hilarious. It was great. But, you know,

the shark is huge. I mean, it's the biggest shark

in the world. The size didn't tip off Steve,

you know. Exploding shark. The exploding shark

was great. It was hilarious, but it's also, you

know, help me, help me, there's a shark after

me. It's like, dude, one, sharks don't usually

go after you like that. They come from underneath,

not up above, you know, along the long side of

you. And it was huge. It's like, you know, the

biggest pair of, you know, the jaw size that

you've seen in, you know, this could be like

the original, you know, shark back. I don't even

know what the Megalodon. Yeah, the Megalodon.

That's what it is. That's how big it looks. Could

swallow Kimber whole. It's like there's something

wrong here. I don't think there's real sharks

that size. Well, there are, but they're not man

eaters. One of these things just doesn't belong

here. Don't get me wrong, I would still be like

Kimber. I would be like swimming my butt off

to get the hell out of it. Oh, absolutely. But

okay, because I'm a fan of sharks. If you ever

encounter this, and my sister's friend had to

do this, here's a teaching tip, people. If a

shark is swimming after you, you're supposed

to swim towards the shark. I know that sounds

insane, but you gotta remember, it's prey or...

or be prey, you know, prey on or be preyed. So

if you're going after the shark, it will swim

away from you. Yeah, because they they're they're

predators. And if it looks like they're going

to get hurt, why would they want to be hurt?

Uh huh. Right. This is not Jaws we're talking

about. OK, that's not real. That is not what

a shark usually does. Oh, I think it was Marty

McFly. The shark still looks fake. That's happening

next year. No, it's actually happening this year.

I thought it was 2015. Yes, this is 2015. Great

PSA. Honestly, even though the PSAs only started

recently on this show, between Jem and Orko,

I learned not to talk to or get into strangers'

cars. Like seriously, Jim and Orko taught me

as a child to not talk to strangers. And this

is honestly why when I'm specifically when I'm

walking down the street or I'm walking to the

store or wherever it is that I'm walking and

you know. If someone says hello to me, I'll just

nod my head, but I won't say anything to them.

If someone says, excuse me, sir, I automatically

know what the hell they want and I just ignore

them and just keep on my merry little way. Or

I will find some way to walk around them and

avoid them completely. All right. I think we

should get to the misfit moments because I'm

betting that the ladies are going to have more

than I do. So after this. Two, three, four. That's

it, girls. Knees high. She's a slave driver.

No pain, no gain. Thanks a lot, Aja. I'll get

it. Now kick out everyone. Five, six, seven,

eight. Okay, gals, that's all for today. Good

work. Who was that, Jerrica? Special delivery

letter. Thanks for a great class, Aja. Super

workout. Anytime. You have been cordially invited

to participate in the annual Battle of the Music

Stars is to be held in scenic Honolulu, Hawaii!

The winner receives a trophy and the chance to

perform at the governor's mansion. This is a

real kick. Then we better really get in shape.

How about another class girls? Oh Alright for

misfit moments. I only have two so I'm gonna

go first then you guys can kind of take over

I Swear Roxy give blonde gives blondes a bad

name even though she isn't even a blonde. She

just can't wait to ruin everything like Dits

of the 80s. All three of them. Between Roxy and

Pizzazz. Oh my God. It's like they have more

character than the holograms do, to be honest.

You know, Roxy's hair is white because the bleach

has gone a little too far. Give her a break.

She's not just a... She didn't just bleach her

hair. She bleached her brain is what she did.

I love Roxy. And the only thing that I noted

about a certain song in this episode was Misfits

in Hawaii. That was a bad song. Yeah. That's

what I got stuck in my head right now. That part

is so catchy. Misfits in Hawaii. Take it away,

girls. Well, now that you've already talked about

Miss Fitz and Hawaii, I'm going to go ahead and

jump right on top of that. OK, Stormer look looks

like she has like, you know, she's like she's

gotten burned. It's like, yeah, she looks like

she's changed ethnic backgrounds. Just saying

oh, yeah, she looks so dark. She looks like she's

like Mexican or something. I don't know She just

does not look white anymore. And yeah, it just

it's just crazy. So and then is like I Would

tanning I do like a white girl anymore Yeah,

but I'm one of those people that even if I burn

you're gonna look like a lobster at least for

a good 24 hours, if not longer. And she browns

up really fast and it goes really, really brown,

like darker than Mexican brown. Because I tan

fairly easy. I burn and then I go white again.

This idea of actually tanning, yeah. The only

reason why on my arm I have a slight tan is because

that's the arm that's the driving side of my

arm. And so it's slightly, it's lightly toasted

over the last, you know, 20 years of my life.

That's the reason why I have a little bit of

brown. Amy's had her arm in the toaster for the

last 20 years. Oh my God. Plus when I've been

driving, you know, that's my arm that gets hit

by the sun. And so I'm lightly toasted on one

side and I'm completely white on the other. If

I lived where you did, I would constantly be

brown. because I burn and then I go white again

it's it's all genetics I I have I have a lot

of Native American in me really dark like she

goes dark like it looks like somebody took like

some wood stain and stained her body I loved

it though The whole point is the song is actually

not supposed to be taken seriously at all. It's

actually a satire, right? But you know, how can

sarongs be so wrong unless you're wearing and

exposing yourself in the wrong ways? That sounds

so wrong could be so wrong and seven tropical

diseases. Are you kidding me? I've been to Hawaii

twice and never got anything and you making it

sound like it's a third world country. It's just

like What? Is there an island though that they

still have the leopards on? Mm -hmm. Leopards,

not leopards. Yes. Has leopards still? Yeah,

it's one of the islands that they still have

a leopard community. Oh, wow. Okay. I did not

know that, but still. It can't be the main island.

I've got I've got to believe that when they brought

these girls over that they either went to two

places They either went to Oahu or the main island

because the main island is the one that has the

active volcano So it's like, okay One way or

the other here You're either on one island or

the other and I don't know if it's gonna be one

that's gonna have tropical diseases Like they

are saying, you know, they've got seven tropical

diseases. I'm like, how long were you there two

days? How long has this competition been going

for? A couple of months. That's another thing

is the timing. Yeah. I mean, it's on a lot of

the episodes. It's like Jim and the holograms

don't know how to time like G1 Transformers don't

know how to do scale. So it's, yeah, it's free.

Yeah. You know, you said earlier, you know, about,

you know, Stormer's tan looking like somebody's,

you know, stained her body. All I can think of

is Jeff Dunham and Walter. So Walter, how do

you stay fresh? Thompson's water seal. That's

funny, that's funny anything else yeah, so they

Let's start from the beginning of the episode

now. Okay random coach that just happens to be

on the plane on their way over That's amazing

And they're then they're also able to sit in

random seats. So, you know, I don't Okay, it

was like okay about the PSA not to talk to strangers

and stuff. Well, what does Kimber do? strange

random coach that they find on the plane it was

just really odd because I thought you know hey

usually they they do assign you seats so just

in case there's a plane accident and there's

a body left in the seat they know who it is that's

there I mean I know that's a little morbid but

you know at least that way if they have to identify

bodies they'll know that you were in that seat

right And I thought it was really interesting

to that, you know, hey, we're having this competition

and you know Because there's no such thing as

regulation equipment provided by the competition.

They're able to get away with stuff Bouncing

gravity shoes Getting away with like the poles

having extensions and extra springs and the,

the, the bikes having, you know, modifications

on them. I was like, really? They didn't like,

you know, judges come through there looking at

that going, Hey, what's that little button on

that thing for? Really? Okay. Oh, then of course

the shark thing, but we've already talked about

that. So I'd say the shark was a misfit moment

for me. So. All right, Amy. If all the misfits

are breaking records, like world records left

and right, no one's going to question that from

the judges circle at all. Let's see here. I want

to say that the active volcano in Hawaii is on

the main island, like I mentioned, but I thought

it was like a national park, which means there

would be rangers there possibly. And I don't

know if I've ever heard of Mwanda Nuihoho, I

think is what they call it. No, that was just...

It's like Carbamia. It's just... It's like Carbamia!

It's Transformers, man! They actually had Carbamia

as their city in one of the episodes. I woke

up this morning thinking, that is the strangest,

weirdest name I think I've ever, you know, they

could have tried to say something that sounded

like a real, you know, Hawaiian name, but that

really is pulling it out of somewhere. Mwanda

Nui Ho Ho. Yeah, because it is kind of hoo -hoo

-hoo -ee. Oh, goodness. Okay, so I also had to

put in here, let's see. Some wants an autograph.

Some lady comes up to them and acting like she

wants an autograph when there's an eruption going

off. And she's like, no, we don't have time for

autographs. She's like, actually, that's not

why I'm here. I was like, Jim, really? You're

such a dits. I thought Hawaiian lava flows were

known for being incredibly slow. So the fact

that that was like, you know. Kimber was stuck

in a cave where there's this, you know, lava

flow that's coming through there and it looks

like it's going pretty fast. I was like, okay.

Um, all right. I guess I'll go with it. Um, I

think that's just kind of like dramatic license

for, for the story. I let's face it. I mean,

eighties, anything was never meant to be fully

accurate on. anything now so but you know that

you know that i've become a girl of the today

you know where they actually try to take make

a few things accurate it's kind of funny it just

it just stuck out to me because now i've got

those i've i've been using those eyes for the

last you know however many years since we've

seen this so it's it's still funny it wouldn't

work any other way if they didn't have like a

little bit of threat but yeah I also mentioned

that how they went in at night and came out hours

later, you know But it was like just a few minutes

and all of a sudden now the swimming competition

is underway Which I don't think Kimber gets there

in time. So the Misfits win on that one And I

also thought it was funny that no one noticed

okay They flew them in special for this but no

one noticed that they were missing when they

had the whole eruption evacuation Where's this

event supervision? It was just like Oh, goodness.

And then again, the whole thing that Kimber didn't

realize that it was Zipper earlier who kidnapped

her because, oh, I recognize that voice. Yeah.

Hours later. That was my number one thing. Kimber,

don't, oh, girl. She started to climb up that

rope with Rio as, oh, girl. You didn't recognize

it when he caught you the first time and say

hey, what was it after how many times? I know

it's like you you just don't realize this Kimber.

You're just a dance Oh Goodness, oh and Hawaiian

authorities speak broken English Really Okay,

that's that's pretty much my list right there.

So if you have any more to add to that go for

it Nicole Okay. Well, I just thought it was funny

because they're having this whole competition,

but there's no other bands but the Misfits and

Chef Yeah, it's just between them. Yeah, so I'm

just like really come on just even throw the

Limp Lizards back in, you know, or something.

You know, because it's like this international

competition. Well, first of all, it can't be

international if they're both from America. And

at this point, wasn't Hawaii already the 50th

state? Yeah, it was the 50th state in 1948. Yeah.

I mean, how is this an international? I mean,

it would be international. if they venezuela

or something well it would be international if

they invited other countries i mean yeah but

right now they only invited people from their

own you know only two they're both from america

their own country yeah and like i said kimber

doesn't know zipper's voice yet really Really?

Okay, so there was an animation error. There

was an animation error with Zipper's eyes. They

kept it changing between blue and brown and there's

one point where he actually has one blue and

one brown. you really need her. Yeah. So, it's

just like his eyes are. Well, he's so full of

it. His eyes are green and then he's so full

of it. Sometimes they're brown. So, you know,

they just flip between the two. It's just like

it's what he was talking to his dad. I'm like,

are you starting to do like the whole snake charm

kind of thing? His eyes are changing color. It's

kind of creepy. Uh yeah. And again, what's up

with Rio? Boy. you're causing trouble. You're

making out with Jim. It's hard to keep track

which which one he's with at any given episode.

I think that's probably one of my biggest issues

with the whole series is who is he supposed to

be with? Right. I think he forgets or is he supposed

to be with Jim? This is why I don't understand

why he has why why she just doesn't come out

with it because then it would it would just make

sense because there's so many times where it's

confusing to even the audience. Wait, wait, wait.

Who's he told already? Wait, wait, wait. You

know, who's he with? Is it Jem or Jerrica? And

then, of course, you know, later in the season

when we have Riot, things get really interesting.

I love Riot. Yeah. So, yeah, Amy hit the rest

of them on there, but... yeah there was a lot

there was a lot to be had on this one yeah alright

let's move on to the next episode Are you talking

to me? since this episode of the podcast from

only doing two episodes of the series next week

or next time around, we'll be back to three episodes,

is the Princess and the Singer. The air date

was November 1st, 1986, obviously loosely based

on the Mark Twain story, The Prince and the Popper.

While touring the small European country of Morvania,

Kimber meets Princess Adriana, the teenage heir

to the throne who happens to look exactly like

her. When Adriana escapes from her room, her

power -hungry cousin Lexa hires her henchmen

to track her down and bring her back. When Kimber

and Adriana bump into each other, Lexa's henchmen

discover Kimber, who they think is Adriana, and

then kidnap her and lock her in a tower where

she escapes. Lexa discovers that the real Adriana

is with the hologram, so she uses the misfits

to lure Kimber to the hotel where the holograms

are staying and plant a bomb on the stage to

kill Adriana. And anybody else that's on the

stage, of course. Yeah, and take over the throne.

Eric Raman and the Misfits gate -crash the party

and save Gemma and the Hol -wha? Ladies and gentlemen,

hell has just frozen over. We'll talk about that

in a little bit. That's my hologram moment right

there. Yeah, we will talk about that, definitely.

Gemma and the holograms aid Adriana from the

bomb on the stage. The holograms then rescue

Kimber. Lexa is placed under arrest. for Conspiracy

and Adriana claims the title of Crown Queen at

last. These songs, Here Comes Trouble, Jim and

the Holograms, The Queen of Rock and Roll, The

Misfits. Normally I'd complain about loosely

based stuff and adapting it to fit cartoons,

but this was a pretty good adaptation. Um, there's

not a heck of a lot of things you can screw up

when adapting this specific story. See, I always

thought that like when I read the title of this,

I figured it was going to be, this would be silly,

but I figured it was going to be Jim and the

princess that looked alike. And then you'd have

three people, Jim, Jerrica, and the princess.

Then Rio really wouldn't know what the hell to

do. Especially since gem is such a she's supposed

to be Slightly different looking and she's a

hologram. She's a fake person So it would have

been really interesting if they had done that

but I'm kind of glad that they've made Kimber

Right, like the one that looked like her and

not Absolutely. Yeah, I mean no, I agree. I think

that was the way to go I made it just switched

up did it something a little bit different with

it and I liked that So, especially since Adriana

is just as headstrong as Kimber is. She's like,

you know, has her own mind of how she wants to

do with things and stuff like that. So Kimber

is kind of like that too, especially since we

find out later on. I think it is in this season

where she does the whole, I'm leaving and she

leaves for an episode. Or is it beginning of

season two? Yeah. I don't remember. We'll find

out, you know, as we watch so many episodes.

They're all blending together. Yeah. Nicole,

what did you think of the plot on this one? Like

I said, I basically knew what was going into

it. As soon as you see the title, you're just

like, but you want to know something? It worked.

I actually had fun with it because there's certain

things that happen. You're like, what? There's

dragons hello There is a dragon you get an extra

have a point if you involve dragons because dragons

are awesome Unless it's dragon wars and it sucks

balls That's the worst movie ever made Now all

those I'm flashing to is the 90s and a certain

double dragon You're the ugly one. No, you're

the ugly one What about you Amy thoughts on the

plot um, I did like it I thought that it was

a It's just one of those things like I knew you

get it It's the prince of the popper, but it's

not it's the princess and the singer or it should

have been the rock star but whatever it works

because You know, I don't know if there is actually

a country named Moravonia. It could be something

made up. I don't know. It's made up. Yeah, I'm

pretty sure that it's made up. But, you know,

I didn't want to just like say, hey, Moravonia

doesn't exist and then get hate mail from it.

On somebody else's show. Sorry, Meg. I'm just

going to cause more problems here. Yay. You knew

what you were going to get into when you invited

us on the show. There you go. No, I did like

it. I thought it was a good idea. And, you know,

I think that's probably the reason why it works

so well is because Kristy Marx helped write it.

And we seem to tend to like, you know, her episodes

a little bit better than others. But yeah, I

was good with it. Yeah. Oh god, you guys are

gonna be so interested at this one. Oh It comes

out of Marvel comics. I just say that I Morbania

yeah, yeah brilliant, so it's not real But it

is it's not real but it's it's you know, it's

geek real who put it that way Um, I like this

episode. I think it's an interesting episode.

It shines a light on Kimber, which not a lot

of the episodes do. Obviously the core focus

is Jim. Because she's too busy with her new boyfriend.

Yeah. The only, the other focus with Kimber is

the fact that every episode she's got a new guy

that she's like, Oh, he's cute. Yeah. And so

she's not running after guys in this one. She's

actually, you know, running for her life. Yeah.

And diving off cliffs and out of towers. Oh my

goodness Yes, cuz rats make girls jump higher

and jump easily into a like a hundred foot drop

into water Well, the good thing about it. The

continuity is the fact that we've already been

told that Kimber's a really good swimmer So the

fact that she's already, you know that she's

already been, you know It's already especially

in the last episode where they said that she's

like the best swimmer and blah blah blah You

know, she should know not to go headfirst diving

into an area that she's not familiar with True.

Yes. Especially when there's jagged rocks at

the bottom. I'm going to go head first with the

jagged rocks. It was the rat. She was deathly

afraid of the rat. It makes you do really crazy

things. Yeah. It's a good thing that rat didn't

start his own restaurant. Or a team of ninjas.

Hey. Don't diss the splinter. Oh You do your

head you killed my brother you do your head It

is kind of weird You mean old movie because it

was last year. Yeah, that's true Oh no, no, no,

no, no. You know, and we are off on a tangent

again since we brought up Splinter. I love turtles.

The worst, the only major consistent complaint

I have about IDW's Splinter is they never, no

artist ever draws him right. He always looks

like a dog. Oh, it's so weird. No, I disagree

with that. I've got a couple issues that I could

show you. Yeah. Okay. All right. Any other thoughts

on the blot? It needs more Splinter? Not joking.

It needs more Splinter. Well, if Splinter was

involved, she wouldn't have had to run for her

life for so long. He would have just kicked all

of their butts. Oh, goodness. Good times. And

and that rat I saw you in the parking lot that

explains you and you guys you guys um Uh, yeah,

we're gonna get to the hologram moments after

this for the princess and the singer. Wow, Eric

actually almost shows concern when Lexa tells

him about the explosion. I believed it. I believed

it. He had his chance and he blew it. Yeah, holy

crap Michael Bay, I mean Eric Raymond has turned

into a good guy for at least for this episode.

I liked it, though. That was my hologram moment,

too. It shows that he does have some humanity.

You've just got to dig deep, like six feet deep.

But it's there. Or eight, or 10, or 14. I actually

put the fact that he didn't have Gem of the Holograms

get blown up is my misfit moment, actually. I

know you wouldn't mind if you just turned a blind

eye and say, oh, there's an explosion. I'm so

shocked. I think he was upset because it wasn't

his idea. And the thing is, I bet you he was

upset because he's done. I mean, this sounds

like a typical Eric Raymond thing to do. And

he wasn't going to get in trouble for something

he didn't plan out. So that's why he was upset.

know, do the right thing because it wasn't his

idea to begin with. So many times he's trying

to undo them in different ways. I'm like, you

know, maybe for him it was like, oh, no, no,

that's too fast. We need it needs to be slow

and painful, right? Exactly. Oh, goodness. Poor

Eric. What was that? Poor Eric? Whoa. He had

his opportunity and he's like, yeah, conscience

had to get in the way. It's kind of shocking

that he actually has one. Every once in a while,

I guess he does, you know, he has his human moments.

He's not perfect. OK, so anybody else have any

other hologram moments? That was my big one.

That was the big one, huh? I like the fact that

Kemper says she'll behave. Yeah, Kemper about

that. And I also had to point out this because

I love this. Um, and in the mood, in the, in

their, their song, here comes trouble. They had

a Charlie's angels silhouette moment in the song.

And I thought, ah, that's awesome. I like that.

Totally like it. I had to point that out. So

yeah, I like that too. If only Heather was here

Charlie anything else Amy um Let's see here.

I put this in here now. I'm trying to figure

out what reference it was to didn't believe that

something fell in one piece The the bomb maybe

something like that Yeah, Kimber says that she

doesn't believe that it fell in one piece. And

I was like, yeah, so am I. Oh, oh, oh, that's

right. When she jumps, that she jumped, she's

still in one piece. And I was like, yeah, so

high, because that was a, I don't know how long

of a drop that was, but it looked pretty significant.

But yeah, she just got lucky, I guess. At least

she jumped out. you know she didn't just jump

down yeah because if she did just jump down she'd

have been dead because the rocks were right there

at least it showed her at an angle going away

from the uh the the rocks and at least they got

that part right they weren't somewhat conscious

that if there's going to be any rocks it'll be

closer to than you know further away but yeah

it was kind of crazy but i also again as we mentioned

in the last episode Kimber of course gets saved

by a daring dude And I had to throw that in there

because like hey girls got saved there you go

and that's it for me All right. We're gonna head

to the misfit moments after this Four misfit

moments for the princess and the singer, Amy.

I'm wondering how Eric keeps on getting the inside

scoop where Jim and the Holograms go from trip

to trip and concert to concert because it's just

like suddenly he... I guess I'm pointing it out

is because the Holograms, Jim and the Holograms

were invited, they weren't. But somehow they

are on their way there as well. So I'm like,

hey, who's the spy? We want to know who the spy

is. It's usually Zipper. Oh, come on. Is Clash

just hanging out? Asha hasn't had her spotlight

episode. It's her. Well, she kind of had a spotlight

when she was in China. What a whole two sentences.

Don't even get me started. I just think it's

always so convenient that he's always, you know,

getting them there or the misfits somehow are

just happening to be there at the same time.

But I had to put that in there because I was

like, Hey, where's the inside scoop on that?

I want to know who's it is. Yeah. What else?

That's it. That's it for me. Other than the,

you know, the one and only chance to get rid

of gem and they blew it. True. What about Unicle?

Okay, here's, I got a short list, not a whole

lot. First of all, they're in a foreign country

in Europe where the main, I would say the main

language is in English. Why does the princess,

is the princess the only one that doesn't have

an accent? She has to sound like Kimber. know.

I know but it's just like it was very odd. I'm

like, wait, you're in a foreign country. She

should have the same accent as everyone else

in her country. I kind of found that a little

off putting a little bit and then when Kimber

and the princess meet up together, they're not

shocked. Neither one are like, oh, hey, you know,

cool. If I found someone that looks just like

me, I'm like, what the hell's going on? Am I

gonna die here soon? What's Exactly. They didn't

even think twice about it. They're just like,

oh, hey And they got their hats mixed up. Come

on, you wouldn't recognize it. You have a different

hat on your head So, um, let's see and The big

the elephant in the room for me was the princess

saw Jericho go to gem and they never addressed

it Never addressed it after that. This is like

the so so the princess could oh But Rio can't.

Okay. Poor Rio. He's out on the out again. I

know. He's been there for them. He's been there

roadie. He sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears

for them. And who gets it? Some strange princess

over in Moravonia gets to have the secret, but

not him. Exactly. If I was him, I'd quit. As

soon as she revealed that she wasn't Kimber,

that should have been the first thing on Jerika's

mind. Like, oh crap. What are we going to do?

I mean, she seems like a nice gal and everything.

But really, I just felt like this should have

been something that was addressed. Yeah, it should

have been. Yeah. And so that was my big, huh?

Maybe synergy fixed it. She just snapped her

fingers and fixed it. Synergy brainwashed her.

Yeah, I did. I got interrupted while I was watching

this one. So now that you bring it up, I'm like,

oh, that's right. And I didn't put it in my Misfit

moment. Darn it. Yeah, I was just like, because

I think by the end of the episode, they'd bring

it up. No, they didn't. Yeah, they didn't. They

didn't. Yeah. So I thought that was a big moment.

Yeah. And those are my Misfits moments. I didn't

actually write anything down for this one. I

thought it was pretty solid overall. I thought

it was really good. I thought it was really good

except for that big major issue. It's just like,

wait. Yeah. And I agree with Amy. It's like,

how is Eric finding out all this stuff? And I

know it's, again, to use the the term that everybody

used convenient for the plot. I mean, that's

really what it boils down to in the writing is

that it's convenient for the plot, but it'd be

interesting to see if, you know, like Tunnel

Rat or Zipper or Tech Rat. I think it might be

Ashley still. Ashley needs some extra money,

so she's still working with the Misfits. I'll

say this for these two episodes, I didn't notice

any really major animation flubs like last episode.

So that's good. But for this one, I really did

enjoy it. I do wish there was more of an exchange

between Kimber and the princess as far as what

you were saying, Nicole. Who the hell are you?

What is going on here? And then, you know, they

have some sort of little talk. And I did notice

a little bit of a change in the princess's accent,

even though it is basically Kimber's voice. But

there is a little bit like when she is talking

to Jim in the holograms, that's when I noticed

that there is a little bit of change in the voice.

So yeah, but it's nothing like the other people

in her country. Right. Yeah, true. True. I agree.

By the power and honor of Grayskull, we all have

the power. Alright, we are back and it is time

to rate the episodes today. Amy, what are you

going to give, what the hell is the name of this

episode? Hot Tub Time in Hawaii. What are you

going to give the hot tub time machine in Hawaii?

Well, because there are so many problems, I have

to say I think it's probably one of my lowest

ratings ever. I'm giving it a two. What about

you, Nicole? I agree with Amy. Still does better

than the China one. It did have some issues.

I'll give it also a two. Yeah, I think we're

all in agreement. I'm going to give it a two

as well. It just didn't make sense. That's the

problem. Yeah. And like I said, we're, I mean,

at this point in the show, we are 18 episodes

into the show. The first season has 26 episodes,

so we're pretty much halfway through the first

season. And I'm sorry, but unless it's Kristy

Marks at this point writing the episodes... they're

not that great. I mean, okay, sure, the Roger

Siffler one, that one was good, but that, you

know, that was kind of a one -off more than anything

to do with continuity. Well, we have another

one coming up, so. Right, right. I mean, the

next three that we'll talk about actually are,

none of them are done by Christie, which is going

to be interesting. At least One of those three

that we'll talk about next time is I actually

I really do enjoy it. I thought it was really

cool But we'll talk about that next time. Yeah

Alright, so the princess and the singer. What

are you gonna give it Amy? Princess and the singer

I thought it did a little bit better of a job.

So I actually gave it a three and a half Okay

Nicole, I really like this one. And I really

liked seeing Eric be a good guy for once. And

again, it helps that Rio wasn't in it. So I'm

going to give it a four. Oh, there you go. Yeah.

It will get a half a point mark higher if no

Rio's in it. You're right. I didn't even think

about that. This one absolutely did not have

any Rio in it. Oh, man. I totally missed that.

Darn it. I'm starting to realize I really like

the episodes without him. It's not I don't notice

it until this episode's over. I'm like, oh, I

like that like And I told me to keep on dissing

him But he really needs to do something to impress

me and you I know there's a few episodes In the

future that I'm gonna like him in it. I think

there's one or two and yeah For me, I'm also

going to give it a four. I really enjoyed it.

I thought it was interesting again kind of shines

a spotlight on Kimber and how Ingenuity, you

know how Intuitive she can be and how to you

know get herself out of you know, let's face

it that this isn't you know Damsel in distress

all of the time because she was pretty Pretty

ingenious trying to get out of that tower saved

She did well. Yes once she got saved by a shark,

you know from the shark. Yes, but I'm saying

like just talking about like this last episode

where you know, yeah She saves herself, but in

the end she still needs help because she was

hanging off that rafter or whatever and she was

like She still gets saved All right, thank you
