on the Secret of the Sword film and a few other
special episodes. You can find this 125 episode
long podcast in iTunes and on the web at GeekCastRadio
.com. By the power and honor of Grayskull, we
all have the power. Yeah, I hope I didn't miss
anything exciting. Hi, this is Kristi Marx, creator
of Gem and the Holograms, and you're listening
to a truly outrageous podcast with Mike, Amy,
and Nicole. It's showtime, Synergy. Hello and
welcome to Showtime Synergy, the GEM review podcast
here on the Geekcast Radio Network. I am Em and
joining me are my hologram girls, Amy aka Lady
Rek, hello, and Nicole Hailstorm, hello. Bonjour.
In this episode, we'll be giving our thoughts
on the next three episodes of GEM and the Holograms
from Season 1. Oh boy. Um, I think is it this
it might be this podcast or the next No, it is
this one Very first episode that we'll be talking
about today. It's all Amy's fault that I noticed
this and we'll get to it, but Let's just say
those foreign animators are putting more stuff
in our heads at this point All your fault we'll
get to that okay get to that So since we last
recorded, Steve Megatron, the co -creator of
the Ecast Radio Network, has put together arts
for the podcast. There will be a 1400x1400 podcast
art coming soon because iTunes at this point
only allows you to submit your show if you have
a 14x1400 main art. Seriously? Yep. Now? Yep.
Cuz I was gonna say I don't remember having that
issue when I signed up for with yeah But now
they have they it's all the iPads fault Well,
it's it's all the iPads fault as soon as Apple
made the iPad. It was like hey You want to listen
to your podcast your favorite podcast on the
iPad? You know all your putt all your podcast
providers need to have this size art. So So we've
got oh, I should probably check and see then
if I can even see my Other podcasts on that.
Hmm. Thanks for the tip So we've got We've got
three Banners that will be used on the website
one for season one season two and season three
so that way every episode will have the same
banner But obviously as the seasons change the
banners will change. Yeah Other than that not
much else is really going on with me what's Going
on with you Nicole me No, no the other Nicole
Your alter ego your evil twin my alter ego my
alter ego is Gwen Stefani and At least she's
a rock and roller there you go, I want to be
that woman so bad Is that because she's married
to Bush? No, it's because she's awesome. I care
less about that part. She's just awesome. I love
that one. All right, Lee and Amy, how are you?
I'm tired. Thanks for noticing me. Alright, we
are going to get into the first episode as Amy
leaves us all in stitches after this. First up
is In Stitches. The original air date was September
6th, 1986. Several girl groups from all over
the world are invited to take part in a rock
fashion contest headed by Italian music promoter
Tony Sassani. Shana is a bit nervous about the
competition, and the misfits try to rattle her
by chipping away at her confidence. But the last
laugh is on them when their own designer drops
out of the contest. Unfortunately, this prompts
them to get Zipper Eric's hired henchmen to steal
the costume Shana has designed for the holograms.
Or so they think. Featured songs. Featured songs.
It all depends on the mood I'm in, by Jim and
the holograms. Designing a woman by the misfits.
I was really just waiting for Anthony to just
drop in right there. I miss that I miss that
guy from designing women. I miss all those girls
from designing women anyway And time is running
out by Jim and the holograms Nicole overall thoughts
on the plot I Actually, this is one of those
episodes. I really enjoyed it was just full of
action It's not perfect, but it was just fun
with all other little running around and there's
only like one part that I really didn't care
for and we'll get to that in my next moments
but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was really
fun. Amy, thoughts on the plot? I had really
fun with this one too. You know I like it when
they actually like do stuff that that seems like
it's part of like you know this one of course
Shayna got a little bit more of a highlight because
It was about, you know, her and her designing
and stuff like that. And I kind of liked that.
It was a good character build for her. Um, so
I really enjoyed it too. I think they, they got
a lot of fun stuff too. Um, in this episode,
it was really fun. So yeah. I like the overall
plot as well. I think that. They could have used
Ashley a little bit better in the writing Yeah,
yeah, you can you you can get to it I'm just
saying like for me as a general note on the story.
I think Ashley could have been a little bit better
written Overall it's you know It's a pretty good
story to this point. She played a role. She did
I mean cuz like if it wasn't she did she hadn't
been there then they would have gotten her designs
and okay, yeah, but they still did but Yeah,
but there's a scene before that happens where
she there's a scene in the plot where she shows
Shana and she makes a comment to Shana And it
just kind of drives Shana even more crazy than
she already was about the whole thing. I can
be a designer too! Yeah, that. That's what I'm
talking about. That could have been a little
like... Instead of Ashley saying something like
that, she could have, you know, praised Shana
and thanked her for helping her learn. Yes, but
she's a kid. She doesn't know any better. Well...
Yeah. So... And you know, wow, Shana. So, you
know... Self -conscious you have I know three
of your best friends there to support you and
you're like can't do this Yeah, it's okay Everything
works out in the end, but you know Ashley certainly
didn't help And these are the Misfits. I could
understand with Shayna because she's going up
against professionals and that's all that they
do. She's got another job. She's actually got
two other jobs. She's got to take care, you know,
of the orphanage, the Starlight Girls. And then
she's got she's a drummer in a band. Yeah, I
can see why she's a little stressed, a little
high tense. I don't blame her. Yeah. All right.
We're going to get to the hologram moments after
this. moments for in stitches. Take it away,
Nicole. Okay. Do I like this episode? I told
you guys last week. Do I like this episode so
much? No, Rio. No, no, no, no. He does appear
in one of the music videos. Okay. Yeah, but that
doesn't. It doesn't count. His face was there.
Yeah, but he didn't say anything. it's true.
He's just running after Joe. Yeah. He wasn't
there around acting like a PMS 14 year old. So,
that's what I'm glad they kept about home. It
didn't take him on this trip. I really like,
yeah, I really enjoyed that. Um, and see, the
other hologram moment I have is the Misfits.
Had a great idea in dying things black because
they looked a lot better Die it black yeah, baby
So all right souls Yeah, ain't that the truth
So this is all Amy's fault. This is my fault.
Oh, this is all your fault Yes was Shayna sitting
on Ashley's lap. Yes, she was I stream capped
it! I'm not kidding! Okay, I will send it to
you after the recording, but here's the thing,
okay? So I'm watching this opening scene as Shayna's
supposed to be teaching Ashley how to do this.
They pan around to a shot of them. Ashley is
sitting on one seat. Shayna is sitting on her
lap. Quite literally, on her lap. After they
pan away they show that there are two seats there
but for a half a second just like earlier an
episode Whatever it was in people who care again
and first of all Ashley's a little kid. It should
be the other way around Wow For that but anyway
So yeah, there is that and that's all Amy's fault.
Um, this is the first time we've heard from the
limp lizards since the opening five far Totally
rocks So, Noreo, as Nicole already enthusiastically
pointed out, but he is supposed to be their road
manager, their stage, he's supposed to be basically
their roadie. and you would think okay where
the hell is he and what the hell is going on
and then they say during this and i'm not complaining
about this i'm just pointing it out that he is
supposed to be that and then uh... i found it
interesting that uh... james says jerica is supposed
to be in new york how can she pull that off i
mean i know synergy can do holograms up to six
bazillion miles away or whatever else but it's
like They don't really explain why Jerrica is
supposed to be in New York Yeah, yeah you just
go with it the the holograms and Gemma going
to what is it Italy and Well that technically
speaking synergy is her like her her base Is
back in New York anyhow the only reason why she
can what project that far away is because the
star earrings Course The thing is this competition
was this is what was on a whole this is a competition
put on by a whole nother company So they would
have made like all their arrangements and everything.
So yeah, they wouldn't need Rio That makes sense
You're just trying to find any port in the storm
Yeah, he's just a big fat distraction I was gonna
have a... Wow. I was gonna have a misfit moment
about who the hell switched the designs in the
first place, and then it's revealed that Ashley
is the one that switched the designs and put
Shayna's designs in the suitcase, and I thought
that was kind of ingenious that they basically,
without knowing, have basically pulled one over
on the misfits. I thought that was great. Yes,
and without intending to, so I was kind of like,
hey... Step into the Misfits and then on the
cliffhanger. I absolutely laughed at this because
um On one of the cliffhangers the Misfits are
hanging off the bridge. The only one that gets
wet is Roxy You just say that cuz I'm here, huh?
Why else would I say it? Anything else we like
about this one ladies Well, I haven't said my
hologram moments yet. Yeah. Mine has everything
to do with underwear. I don't know what kick
I'm on right now, but this is interesting. I
had to point out some of this stuff. Okay, so
Kimber's PJs at the very beginning are those
traditional baby back that has the unbuttoned
so that you can have the diaper changed. I just
thought, really? Was that popular in the eighties?
I don't remember that. Cause I want some of those
darn it. Be my cousin had a pair. Oh, you did.
Okay. Cool. Cause I'm like, I've never saw ones
like that. Yeah. With the, with the, yeah. Maybe
it was growing up in Wyoming. That was more of
a survival than a fashion thing. But still I
just thought, you know, it's kind of odd, but
then I thought, you know, I guess I kind of like
that. Um, and then the other thing is when synergy
loses the connection, uh, you know, before they're
able to come out on and show all the new designs
and stuff like that, all the girls are in their
underwear and it's like paper doll clothing.
I love it. I love it. I had to point that out.
I was like, you know, cause when I was a kid
about this, about this time that I was watching
the show, I had paper dolls that looked like
that. So the fact that they look like that, I
just said, Oh, that's so funny. Oh, little girls.
Oh, good times. I'll point this out now and I'll
point it out probably in the next episode of
the podcast if you really think about it if Synergy
is supposed to be doing all these hard light
holograms around gem in the holograms Technically,
they're all naked. Yeah, but most of the time
we see when Jerrica switches from gem to Jerrica
She's like in her regular clothes Right. Yeah
No, it's crazy All right, let's get to the misfit
moments the misfit moments for in stitches I
only have two they couldn't have find found some
other guy to put in the video they had to put
Rio in there even though these never explained
why he's not in the episode seriously is it now
I watched these on Netflix this time around I
mean, I do have the DVD set right here by my
computer, but I wanted to see, you know, I wanted
to be able to just watch them fairly easily without
having to worry about having the discs in my
computer. But is it me or did the episode end
a little bit too abruptly? Yeah, it kind of did.
I mean, it just kind of ended and then boom,
the end credits are there. And it's like, wait,
what? Really? Like no fade out, no nothing. It
was like a really, really hard transition. Um,
that's pretty much it for me. What about you,
Amy? Um, I was like, okay, come on, ladies. Have
you not seen Zipper a couple of times? You get
out of the boat, you don't notice that it's Zipper
and he is the guy that still Shane has designs.
Really? Come on. Somebody is like smoking the
crash. I just find it odd they don't recognize
that. He doesn't have a Venetian accent. And
he wasn't even trying to wear like a mask or
anything. He was just dressed a little bit differently.
Come on, ladies. It's Zipper. Somebody stop him.
Come on. Where's Monterey Jack when you really
need him? It's not even like he was wearing glasses
or anything either. I know. Well, he was wearing
a hat, but that still doesn't excuse it. I mean,
they should recognize his voice by now. Has nobody
looked him in the face Exactly Yeah, I also thought
that it was kind of odd that you know, hey shoes
and accessories in the Trunk that got left in
the water that happened to actually have Ashley
Nobody noticed that it was heavier when they
picked it up, right? Because Ashley weighs the
same amount as all of their shoes and accessories.
And she traveled on the airplane in that thing.
You got to tell me that she wasn't going, ouch,
ouch, ouch, the whole time that they were throwing
her into the plane, right? Oh my god. See, that's
another thing I have. Ashley likes to complain
a lot. Those first few episodes showed that.
So come on. How did they not know she was in
the truck? The other thing is that, okay, I don't
know how careful they are putting stuff in the
bottom of the plane. It looks like to me that
they toss it over, it gets dropped. For heaven's
sakes, she could have been traveling on top of
her head the whole time. They could have put
this truck upside down. So it's like the realism
of that just kind of went, okay, that broke me.
Oh goodness. But you know, then of course, it
was just odd to me. I just thought, really Ashley?
Nobody noticed. But then again, like it's sad
because it's like the trunk gets left in the
lake or in the water where they were. Because
the boat gets exploded and all of that stuff
and anyhow, it's like the fact that she survived
is a miracle You know It's just crazy. What about
you Nicole? What didn't you like about this one?
Okay. Well, I agree with both accounts that Amy
just said I had that on here I also am starting
to have a problem with Jerika's timing of when
she undoes her holograms. She's at the villa.
She's dressed as a seamstress, or she's hologrammed
as a seamstress. As soon as she barely gets two
feet away, she goes back to being Jim. You should
probably be under disguise for a while, little
lady. Okay? Yeah. uh yeah her timing well with
yeah with that scene it was like eric opened
the door and was like almost right on top of
her it's like really seriously you're gonna turn
it off right then uh exactly exactly so i was
just like come on timing is everything you're
in the you're in the entertainment business you
should know that um traveling without money four
girls four broads with no money come on yeah
you're going out They only had American dollars.
They couldn't pay things with American dollars.
They didn't change any currency when they were
at the, you know, airport. I guess that's why
they need Rio, right? Yeah. Hey, hey, I remember
I was completely shocked when I found out that
Oprah never knew how to like... Put her own gas
in her car because she always had somebody else
to do it It could be the same with these guys
My biggest misfit moment there is no way those
judges thought the holograms fashion was better
than the misfits come on really really Yes, but
their designs were Shayna's designs. I don't
care! They stood still in the one. Shayna stood
still in the one. They were better designs than...
I'm sorry, Kimber looked like she was wearing
pajamas. We're back to the beginning of the show.
Oh, the 80s. So those are my misfits. All right,
we are going to move on to the next episode which
is a the first part of a two -parter We'll be
back in a moment Up next is the Music Awards
Part 1. It aired September 13th, 1986. The holograms
and the misfits become so focused on beating
each other at the upcoming annual music awards
that they neglect their duties to the Starlight
Girls. Deidre, one of the girls, is so hurt by
this she runs away. The sheep girl, not wanting
Deidre to go alone, decides to come with her.
And Chrissy goes as well to keep an eye on them.
Meanwhile, video introduces the holograms to
Gisele Dvorak. Dance, a talented stage dancer
who has a special request for them. Eric Raymond
hires TechRat to cause trouble for the holograms.
The girls run away to the misfits who anonymously
report Jerrica is mistreating her Starlight girls.
Ad Starlight Music gem finds out from Lindsay
that the Haven House benefit is the same night
as the music awards. and at the missing event,
missing the event would hurt her chances to win
the prestigious award. She backs out and goes
home only to learn about the runaways, the holograms
search everywhere, but there is no trace of them
feeling guilty. For ignoring them, Jem decides
to perform at the benefit anyway with the hopes
that the girls will hear about it and come home.
The featured songs are She Makes an Impression,
Jem and the Holograms, When It's Only Me and
the Music, Jem and the Holograms, and I Am a
Giant from the Misfits. Note, when this episode
first aired, the show provided a hotline for
runaway kids to call and get help. Due to the
high call volume, the system went down temporarily.
Now, you know, I'm going to use this time to
tell people if you are in a situation where you
think running away is a good thing, it isn't.
If you do need help... and you are a runaway
person, call 1 -800 -Runaway. That's 1 -800 -786
-2929. They will listen and provide as much help
as they can. As, you know, on a personal note,
I ran away a few times as a kid. It's not a good
idea. You cannot run from your problems no matter
how big or small they are. So, the... So for
the plot in the music awards part one, Amy, what
did you think of the plot? I think it was a really
good one. I mean, because like, hey, the holograms
and all them, you know, they've got all these,
they've got so much attention. They ignore their
starlight girls. I don't know. I just, I can
see that happening because like, you know, hey,
parents get so... You know busy sometimes that
you know kids are doing their thing. Everybody's
doing their part You know that type of thing
that they can do that But I'm kind of shocked
though that they don't have any other adults
at the starlight house Like do they leave the
girls there all the time there's no housekeeper
there's no You know person that they hire to
be there when you're gone There's no adult supervision
by turning him in. See, so she was actually the
hero of the story. No, no, no. No, no, no. Not
necessarily, but... So off base there. And she
did him a favor. Yeah, but then that's the...
Well, that's another thing, and I'm probably
going to bring that up in the misfit moments
that, you know... Why is it that somebody can
call in an anonymous tip and suddenly they're,
you know, paying attention to a bunch of, you
know, I thought they had to have a little bit
more evidence than that. You know, CPS usually
doesn't get involved just because he gets an
anonymous tip. I don't know. Maybe I need to
know more about CPS because I was under the impression
that they don't do that, but hey, I could be
completely off my rocker. I mean, there was Mrs.
Well, I've never said anything else I always
say I'm insane and crazy so But nobody's called
me That's good There was a character but she
was only in two episodes mrs. Bailey She was
supposed to be the house mother of starlight
house She's only in two episodes the entire series
She retired. Something like that. She saw who
Jem really was and just said, ah! Ran away. She
saw who Jem really was and now she really is
in the basement. Locked away. With all the other
people who know the secret. Synergy has a hold
of her. Well, according to this episode, Synergy's
got some mighty lasers, so maybe. Alright, we
are. Burned her with a laser. Sorry. Nicole,
what did you, what did you think of the plot,
Nicole? You know what, there's a lot of good
lessons in this. I think I'm kind of like mashing
both of them together. Part one and two. There's
some really good lessons and it was more realistic,
I would say. You can actually feel the stress
coming off of Cherica for once. Like, how am
I supposed to do all of this, you know? And I
kind of like that. Not that I like to see her
in pain, but it's just it it just it brought
it back down to earth All right, we are gonna
get to the hologram moments after this standing
still stop What do you got Nicole? Okay, uh tech
tech rat. I love tech rat I Know I know you guys
are probably like I For some reason I love Just
the dirtiness of him. He tries to look cool,
but he's just deep down a nerd and I love it
And then I did like at the end of the episode
where they decided to give up the award show
to actually go to the benefit show. I really
thought they made a commitment and they were
going to stick to it. And I really liked that
part. Did they have a choice? Well, well, the
thing the thing is, like with most award shows,
if you don't show up, you still get the award.
So let's see. Oh, and the Misfits know how to
troll, and I love it. They know how to troll.
They were the first trolls. They taught the rest
of us how to troll. I'm not kidding. I mean,
where did they come up with this stuff? Hey,
we're going to get them in big trouble, and we're
going to look like we're completely clean of
this. So I kind of enjoyed that. Those are my
hologram moments. Amy? Hologram Moments. The
Misfits are their own worst enemy. Just have
to say. They are their own worst enemy. I just
have to say I like that. Anyhow, I thought it's
funny that the Starlight Girls end up doing the
Misfits chores at their house. I love it. It's
awesome. Yes, it's a hologram moment. Yes, ladies,
girls, if you go to the Misfits... If you go
to your enemy, they are not going to be nice
to you, okay? They're going to make you do housework.
The same that you were doing back where you were
at the Starlight House. So yeah, because somebody's
got to do it because you think the Misfits do
it. But the thing is, you know what? Pazazz made
a good reference to say, hey, we gave them food
on the roof over their head. I'm like, that's
a step up from what they probably do in the past.
Yeah, possible. Yeah, it's true. It's true. I
also think it was funny that pizzazz in her own
music video kidnaps Rio. Everybody's obsessed
about Rio. Why? I know. I know. It's just, but
I put it in here because I thought, okay, yeah,
pizzazz take him, please. Oh, I'd love to see
what she does with him though. Oh, okay. Let's
not go there. Yeah, let's not go there. Man,
when did we turn to Skinamax? I did not mean
that. You liar. I bet I would like to see her
torture him. I don't want to. No comment. OK,
so I also like the cliffhanger on the two parters.
So, yeah. Yeah, those are my hologram moments.
For me. The cliffhanger was good. I like the
characterization. Like I think this is the first
time we've seen Deirdre. I don't remember. I
mean, she's been in the background, but she's
never had a really speaking role until now. And
this was dance's first episode. So, I mean, that's
nice though, right? No, this wasn't tech rats.
We've seen him. I thought we had those. Yeah,
we've seen him before. Yeah, we've seen. I love
tech rats. I love him. He's awesome. He would
be the best mastermind if he did not have pizzazz
around. Oh, exactly. Yes, very true. So many
tears. It's all pizzazz's fault. All right, let's
let's get to the misfit moments after this. misfit
moments. I am so sick of the misfits interfering
in every single one of Eric's plans to quote
unquote help them get on top. They should have
never been in that car. Never been in that car
with Eric and tech rat. They wanted to be a part
of it, man. Yeah, they screw everything up every
time. This is why they're their own worst enemy.
They get in the car and they're like, don't get
in the car. You can't stop his ass. When she
has her mind set on something, she's gonna do
it. She's very goal -oriented. Sometimes to a
fault, right? To her own fault. What about you,
Amy? What didn't you like about this one? Oh,
I have a lot of little things. Let's see. How
do lasers turn deadly just because TechRite has
a device? When they show up to synergy like hey,
you know, let's do a light show and then the
lasers turn deadly I'm like when deadly when
you know when deadly lasers go wrong tech rat
has a device, you know Yeah, and I also noticed
there's a little strange moment where a tech
rat like repeats himself twice it was really
odd and I was like, that's kind of Just, it was
weird that he said it twice, but you know, maybe,
you know, when you're, he has to say it twice
as much because that's the only way to get possessed
to hear him. I already mentioned that there are
no adults in the starlight house. Cause like
all the kids live there and when Jim and the
holograms go off to Italy, Rio stays behind and
babysits. Who knows? Um, let's see here. Uh,
see, Oh, Jem asks Ria what he thinks of dance.
Is she trying to set him up? Really? She asked
him. It's like, okay, I don't know if any girl
ever asked her guy or guy friend or whatever.
It's like, it's always a trap. What do you think
of her? Really? It's a trap. It's a trap. Yeah.
Put general Akbar right there. It's a trap. Oh
Awesome. Okay gem volunteers for the benefit,
but they don't check their schedule first Somebody
fired Jerrica, please because she's not doing
her job Yeah, I Also had to put in here that
Rio and his drama you don't trust me really That's
what I have to yep Moments here. Okay. I've got
one more. Sorry. Let me see here. Oh Does the
fact that the Misfits they open up the car and
ask them as the starlight girls hop into the
back of the van And then I also brought up the
CPS thing already so and the last point It's
Jerrica that they're investigating not gem But
yet, yeah, anyhow. Well, it's Jerrica that the
social worker is investigating, yet at the same
time, this is the episode where Eric has a bounty
on Jim, right? No, that's the next part. That's
the next episode, yeah. That's the next part,
yeah. What about you, Nicole, for part one, Misfit
Moments? Oh, well, Amy pretty much... Sorry,
y 'all. Oh, that's not a problem. The only thing
I have a question about is, like I said, the
mighty lasers on synergy. Really? Why would she
need that kind of lasers on there that can pretty
much cut a person in half? I don't get that.
Well, they're usually fine, but they just turn
deadly because TechRat has... But why would he
have to have that setting? What was Jerick's
dad into? Torture. It was all torture. Synergy
has a bad dark side. Don't give her cookies.
She'll turn into, you know, a bad person. Don't
get her wet after midnight. You can't get her
wet. Ah, the 80s. Yeah. And then I have here
Rio being bipolar. He goes from one mood to the
other and I'm just like... Come on, please get
this man some help. Really? Really? He is serious.
And then he walks out of the room. And then two
seconds later, he acts like nothing happened.
Like, oh, and I'm like, you don't remember what
you just did? You freak of nature. Can you blame
him though, when he's got women asking him? So
what do you think of dance? It's like they're
setting him up. They're enabling this behavior.
Oh, goodness. Yep. So those are those. Yeah,
those are my moments. All right. Let's get to
the music awards. Part two after this. Music
Awards part 2 it aired September 20th 1986 as
Jerrica and the others continue their search
for the girls the misfit stage a publicity stunt
to garner more attention toward their appearance
at the Music Awards Deidre Chrissy and Bonnie
and their new friend Danny run afoul of a couple
of thugs who forced Danny to steal from a local
electronics store for them they managed to escape
and are directed to Haven House where Dance finds
them and brings them to the concert. Tech Rat
tries to disrupt the concert with a jamming device,
but Danny catches him in the act. Meanwhile,
the Misfits win for best music group, and Pizzazz
plans to gloat to gem about the win, so they
drive to the concert, only to find the audience
cheering the performance. Pizzazz, silenced and
shocked by the overwhelming sense of goodwill,
that the concert has created doesn't notice her
award accidentally slipping out of her hand to
the floor where it smashes into a hundred pieces
the featured songs are you ought to see the view
from here by the misfits running like the wind
gem of the holograms and friend or stranger by
gem of the holograms um again like this episode
ends just like in stitches ended it just ends
like the award breaks and then bam credits what's
up with that i don't get that it seems a little
out of out of character for pizzazz because like
she does not come across as that girl that's
like oh we're gonna say something heartfelt in
that she's gonna like oh you know swoon over
it so right no no but what i'm saying is like
the The actual episode, the award breaks because
it slips out of her hand. The award breaks and
the next thing you know, they're on the credits.
Yeah, because that's the end of the show, you
know? Yeah. It's too much of a hard transition
for me. There needed to be something, some sort
of musical fade out. It ran out of time. I guess.
I don't know. Overall plot for me on part two
here, I like it. I like that the girls and Danny
are all teaching each other lessons. I think
that's really cool. uh... they're gonna get the
help they need at least any well anyway uh...
and uh... what else what else uh... so the misfits
one nobody cares they have to have a win every
once in a while come on i care i care uh... what
did you think of the plot in this one amy It's
a continuation obviously of the first one. I
like the fact that we get a little bit of background
about Danny so we know he's actually had a tough
life. The rest of the girls haven't. And I like
the fact that when they have to start expressing
that and it's like, Danny's like, hey, I guess
you weren't loved either. It's like, actually,
no, we actually kind of were. It's like really
gross. I feel stupid like that. Yeah. But it
was just kind of like, you know, yeah, it just
it was kind of funny. It just made me laugh.
But it was like, oh, yeah, this is, you know,
kind of showing how whiny and, you know, cheap
your whole reason were for leaving were it was
kind of dramatic, to be honest. But I like the
fact that Mick and Ramon, the two older boys
that are the older guys that try to take advantage
of them, they get caught and arrested. But the
police don't go after the kids. I was like, Oh,
you know, get some social workers out here and
let's see if we can't get these kids off the
street. Right. Uh, so it was like, yeah, put
them in their place. The kids get away, but luckily
we all know that this is going to end well because
they go to the Haven house and everything's good
and happy, you know, poor kids. They're not going
to know who to trust. Goodness trust the blonde
pink -haired ballerina that works. Yeah, there
you go. She looks like she's in touch with life
They've made better mistakes before this so right
What about you Nicole thoughts on the rest of
this episode the two -parter I think it's a good
conclusion again like I said it kind of erupted
ended abruptly, I guess. And again, misfits up
to no good, and I love it. There's a couple of
moments that are actually my hologram of misfits,
and I love it. No, but again, it does send a
good message. You know, Danny pretty much showed
the girls, they have it pretty good. Yeah, they
don't have a family, but they do have people
that love them. They might not always be like
their hand and foot every second, because obviously,
you know, they have a very unique situation.
The gem in the holograms and Jarek and all of
them, you know, they are, you know, famous people
that have jobs that have to pay the bills, right?
And it just, again, it's just odd to me that
there's no other adults at that house. You think
it'd just be one other person like, you know,
like the matron of the house or something that
just helps them with their homework and does
all the stuff to help keep things moving along
while Jem, Jerrica and the holograms are off
doing stuff to help pay for the bills Well, that's
what I thought mrs. Bailey was for and like I
said earlier, she was only in two episodes of
the entire series It's like yeah, they just kind
of forgot about her and wrote her out. I don't
know To make it work cuz they wouldn't have this
episode if you know, there was an adult at home
True true and I really like that the one point
where the I guess how to be my hologram on them.
Never mind We're gonna get to the hologram moments
right now take it away with your hologram moments.
My hologram moments. And the mustache -y gem.
That was awesome. I really thought that was pretty
funny. I loved that. All of her craziness. I,
for one, enjoyed that the Misfits actually won
for once. I mean, they're never going to be a
true threat if they don't come out ahead every
once in a while. Yeah, and I put that in. here
too is like, I completely agree. They have to
have their moments where they win. Yeah. I mean,
or they're really just not a threat or, you know.
Yeah. It's constantly dealing with Cobra, you
know? And the point where they're at the cafe
and the waiter helps Ganny take the first steps
to get help. I really thought that was really
sweet. I don't know if he was a runway himself
and he got back on his feet, but I really enjoyed
that moment where two strangers got together
and helped each other. I really thought that
was awesome. Yeah. Absolutely. It's somebody
they could trust, right? Just some guy working
at a cafe. There you go. Hey, here's this number.
It's a hotline. I really thought that was...
Well done. I mean, I, you know, coming from someone
who was in that kind of, cause I was a ward of
the state of Kentucky till I from 14 to 18. So,
um, I had been in a few safe places and shelters
and stuff like that. And, you know, shelters
for kids. So I do know that they do advertise.
Like you can go to a tart. you know here it's
called transit authority rooster so you can go
to the public bus transportation system here
and say hey i need help i need to go someplace
safe or you can go into a mcdonald's or something
like that they they have those kinds of where
you can you know if you are a runaway you can
go into businesses and if they have the safe
place logo in their windows you can say hey i
need help um so again that is really really interesting
and i can't You know say again say enough if
you are in runaway, and you need help Find a
payphone if they still exist this day and age
and call 1 -800 runaway You know someone will
always listen Okay, where was I now? I was done
with my hologram on yeah, okay, Amy. What about
you um let's see Uh, I did notice that in this
episode, the CPS worker does have a point. He
does realize that the girls are on their own
without an adult at the house. Um, it's, it is
pointed out. I hope, I hope this means that they
will remedy that after this episode. They won't.
Yeah. Uh, Eric Raymond responds the right way
about the laser gun. Why are you giving that
to pizzazz? It's like, so I have to give credit
where credit is due. Good job, Eric. Of course
he doesn't stop her, but yeah. But at that point
she had the laser gun in her hand, which is bad.
Um, and that's pretty much it. Uh, everything
else has been mentioned. So yeah. Um, for me,
um, One thing I noticed, it took me two or three
times in the scenes where the older guys are
at their little hideout there. I had to rewind
it a couple of times, but it does say on the
side of the bus and the graffiti, it does say
Mark's Girls School. M -A -R -X for Kristy Marks.
She's got her name in the episode on the bus.
Oh, that's cool. She wrote it, you know. It makes
sense. Well, yeah, yeah. Pazaz got exactly what
she deserves. I like how Roxy throws in her face,
too. Yeah. I mean, if you look at this episode,
yes, I kind of agree with you, Amy, that, yeah,
the Misfits need to win every now and then, but
look at... how jim and the holograms are looking
on the misfits are yes jim and the holograms
are you know want to get famous and whatever
else but they are so thankful for everything
that's been given to them and the misfits because
they are the villains just want to take take
take take take who really won in this episode
the hogs are really want to know they can't work
on it they took a day you know that i don't even
take an award home they took pieces of an award
home They took it home for a few minutes. Yeah,
a few seconds. But, alright, let's get to the
misfit moments after this. Why do you hate the
misfit so much, huh? Misfit moments for the music
awards part two Man pizzazz is becoming worse
and worse as the series goes on she really needs
to listen to Eric sometimes Like seriously if
she would just listen to what Eric has planned
and what he's going to do and just leave it there
Think of it as work pizzazz you hate doing work.
So just leave the crap alone like Tech rat probably
would have won this episode for them if Pizzazz
hadn't screwed it up. True. Because one of those
lasers would have ended up killing all of the
holograms. They almost did. I was surprised that
when the billboard fell over and into the window,
all that glass fell everywhere. You mean that
nobody got impaled by that? Nobody was hospitalized?
It's the 80s. Yeah, and plus it's the 80s. It's,
you know, the same reason why Cobra can't hit
G .I. Joe and G .I. Joe can't hit Cobra and Autobots
can't hit Decepticons and vice versa. Sometimes
it just doesn't hurt them. Knocks them over like,
ah. They get back up and start shooting again.
Yeah, until you get to 1986 and that blatant
optimist's stomach. But anyway, again, I cannot
be going crazy. I'm going to have to actually,
after we finished recording this episode, I'm
going to have to go to the DVDs and see if these
episodes really end as hard as they do. It's
a real mark for me off of this episode. I don't
know. It just... Ends and it's like wait what
that's it really seriously. There's there's nothing
Yeah, that's right. I watched it. Yeah All right,
Amy. What do you have for misfit moments? Well,
I'm gonna say it again tech rat gives the Misfits
lasers bad idea Yeah, you're a brilliant dude,
but you need to keep those lasers away from Okay,
he's brilliant, but he doesn't have social skills
and he wants to be part of the cool crowd. So
he's going to do this so he can be part of the
cool kids. Yes, but he also is kind of a little,
um, you know, OCD and wants things done exactly
the way he wants them done. And they don't ever
follow that. So, ah, you know, the whole idea
of being, I want to be part of the cool cats,
but you know, got to do it this way and blah,
blah, blah. I was like, these guys are misfits.
They're not going to listen. It's part of the
name, you know. And I don't think TechRat wants
to be one of the cool kids. I think TechRat wants
to be left the frig alone. He wants to be the
ultimate villain! With the guy that has the cat,
you know? Put me in a mountain somewhere and
I'll have the cat and all of the cool devices
and I'll take over the world! Oh my god. I just
had a horrible, horrible thought. We've already
mentioned in this podcast that Eric Raymond is
Michael Bay -ish. TechRat is his writing bitch,
Aaron Krueger. Wow. Okay. You know, the scary
thing is I can totally see it. Nicole Okay, okay
Okay, so pizzazz should have been arrested for
what she did to be honest She should be in jail
after this episode because hey, she was the only
one flying around using that laser There were
plenty of witnesses She wouldn't she should have
been arrested for that. So yeah breaking the
breaking the reality Huh? Money does wonders
You know what's really creepy is that Amy can
pretty much mimic it that's creepy I don't know
how to recover from this now. I'll put one more
thing also pizzazz in this episode she pulls
the award away from the other misfits so it's
like you know they follow her but she does not
give them any any credit whatsoever if she gets
an opportunity to have all the credit she will
take it even from her own friends so that's very
very sad uh nicole misfit moments okay misfit
moments um Yeah, tech rat give us a laser. Come
on. Everyone knows that that's a bad idea. Um,
and then apparently Incredibles hasn't come out
yet because, because dance did not take the advice
of no case. No case. Yeah. What the hell was
that outfit? Oh my Lanta. That was horrible.
Where's Edna? And I would have to say the social
worker was a little lax with his duties, like,
eh, if they show up, we'll do something about
it. If not, well, great, I've got to work. I
mean, the only explanation, not necessarily to
explain that away, but the only thing I can think
of is, again, coming from someone who had two
or three different social workers in my life,
and they have upwards of 100 to 200 to 300 cases.
So it... depending on the caseload, that's probably
why he was that lax. But, I don't know. Any other
things for music awards? No capes. No capes.
No capes. No capes. Alright, we are gonna take
a quick break. Sorry. Oh god. I love Edna, she's
awesome. You know, the sad thing is your avatar
kind of almost looks like Mrs. Incredible. Anyway,
we're gonna take a quick ad break, come back
with final thoughts and ratings after this. Kid?

Yeah, that's alright. Alright, we are back. Amy,
what are you going to rate in stitches? In stitches,
I'm rating this one a four. I know we had a few
little problems with it, but to be honest, and
I know it had this hard end, but I really enjoyed
it, so I rated it a four. What about you, Nicole?
See this is probably one of my favorite episodes
because even before I went back on rewatch gem
I remembered this episode And again not having
real when it really Yeah, so it's not perfect
I would give it a five if there wasn't there's
a couple of bad things in it So I'm saying four
and a half because this is probably one of my
favorites. I love it. So Alrighty then for me,
I'm gonna give this a I'm gonna give it a three
only because of the hard -ending The rest of
the episode I really did like it though, but
I'll give it a three What about the music awards
Amy? Are we putting together as one? Yeah, okay.
Um, I like it I think had a good message. I like
what they did with it, even though there are
a few little things that break my brain. And
I would also give this one a four as well. I
thought it was pretty solid. What about you,
Nicole? I've just got to double what Amy just
said. I read the message. There was some really
good moments. Like I said, mustache gem. Awesome.
And like I said, this is actually one for once
and for some reason that really puts a smile
on my face. So I'm gonna give this one a four.
For me, I'm trying to think if there was anything
too jarring. There wasn't really anything too
jarring on my end. Again, I guess I'll take a
point off for the end so I'm also gonna give
it a four because part two ended again on one
of those. bad transition endings. Alright, thank
