About this Episode

A look at the latest box office trends and recent movie news, including potential sequels for Con Air and Top Gun. We also discuss upcoming projects like the new Mummy reboot, the SpongeBob sequel, and various horror films. The main focus of this episode is a review of Guardians of the Galaxy and our thoughts on how it fits into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This week on MYR we'll be talking about all the

movie news coming out of Comic Con, of nearly

a million trailers, and then over a million movies

that we watched. That's the last one. All that

and more this week on MYR. Welcome back to MWire

Weekly. I'm your guest host today, Matthew Fridley

-Sent. With me, as usual, is Nathan Adolfo -Chabidou.

Hello, Nathan. Hello! If you noticed, Kevin is

not here this week. As I believe we mentioned

in a previous one, recently. As recent as MWire's

get. MWire Weekly's at least. MWire itself has

been kind of flourishing, I guess, in our absence.

But as frequently as MWire Weekly's get... We

mentioned how difficult it is to arrange our

schedules so that it worked. So this week we're

trying a note, Kevin, just to get something out

there so you guys know. I mean, we watched a

bunch of reviews and we can't remember them all.

So we wanted to get this out there for you guys.

So, at the top of the show, you'll have to bear

with me and mute this. We talked about the box

office. Let's talk about the box office So this

week big shower guardians of the galaxy. Yeah

Marvel's first foray into the space superhero

movie and Doing stuff people don't already know

about Not everyone knows about that stuff. It's

not Captain America. It's not Iron Man Also releasing

this week was a get on up get on. Oh my gosh

We're gonna see that soon, hopefully. Hopefully.

I'm very excited about it. Hopefully it comes

to our area. I don't know. I didn't even look

to see if it was in our theater. But with over

2 ,000 it's pretty likely. It has to be. I've

seen so many ads for that in the movies. True.

That's true. They do advertise it before the

movies. Get On Up took third behind Lucy and

just ahead of Hercules and Dawn of the Planet

of the Apes. So we'll just keep going. Last week

was Lucy followed by Hercules. Lucy making 43

million and then Dawn right behind that. The

week before that Dawn was in first even though

it was its second week beating out the Purge,

Planes, and Sextape all in their first weekends.

And then the week before that Dawn of course

was number one on its release week. Followed

by Transformers in its third week and Tammy in

its second week. I'm so wait Okay, so go back

go all the way back to the first then the newest

thing. I want to see how well Transformers is

doing currently at the moment. Um Nate is saying

this Nate and I are recording in the same room

for the first time Yes ever I get to actually

hug Matt while I talk with him is the thing and

we have never done that we should have Transformers

Age of Extinction, their total gross currently,

is this the current? Current. Is 241 total gross,

with a budget of 210, and that makes me depressed.

That's a lot of money. It has made its budget

domestically. Yeah. And it is week 6, it's gonna

keep on chugging, although it has taken quite

a hit. I mean, it made 2 million less this week

than it did the week before, and it is in, you

know, not, what, a third? Less than half of the

theaters at Guardians of the Galaxy is in, which

is going to start reigning supreme, with a smaller

budget and a better story. But other things,

boyhood apparently only - a four dollar budget

that's not right i know it took like 12 years

to record um four million dollar budget oh four

million okay yeah i'm not kevin i don't always

read the charts right oh we have to bear with

this it was only in 300 theaters i know dan said

he saw it wherever he is um i mean it's it's

already almost doubled its budget with this such

a small budget like in in only 300 theaters But

it's in its fourth week, so hopefully that one

gets to us too, because that one is a very interesting

concept. I'd like to support it, just because

I like to support interesting concepts. Yes,

definitely. I guess we should go to the yearlies.

Nate and I are not a part of the whole yearly

deal. that Kevin and Dan were a part of, but

we're going to read it for anyone who made a

list because that's the thing people do. What?

Like, because at the top of the year they're

like, hey, make a list of your movies you think

are going to do the best. Oh. It's Nate is saying,

oh, because of a new mover and shaker that wasn't

even there last time we recorded, which is hard

to do. Number one is still Captain America Winter

Soldier. Beating out the Lego movie by just under

two million dollars number three in just Was

it six weeks? Transformers age of extinction

two hundred and forty one million dollars likely

Well, I don't know I want to say it's likely

to pass at the Lego movie, but it only made two

million this week And if it only makes two million

a week, it'll take it over six weeks Double its

lifespan now. I don't know if it's gonna take

over take the Lego movie domestically Fingers

crossed that it doesn't we're not big fans of

these recent Transformers movies number four

is Maleficent 234 million which made almost as

much as transformers this week So I guess it's

possible for as long as it has that still making

that kind of my transformers might still And

then rounding out the top five is Days of Future

Past, the second X -Men installation from Fox.

After that are all things that have been around,

right? Amazing Spider -Man 2, Godzilla, Donald

Plenty Apes wasn't around. This is number eight.

22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon 2,

two animated films in the top ten. Yeah. I don't

think How to Train Your Dragon 2 is going to

survive with Guardians of the Galaxy plowing

through like it's gonna. You think it's gonna?

Think it's gonna. I mean it made what 94 million

its opening weekend. That's pretty good pretty

good So hopefully that'll get up there in the

top three You surfing transformers. Oh, yeah,

cuz I'm a bitter man and Which had an opening

weekend of a hundred million dollars that is

so many that's so many millions of dollars If

you are a fan of Transformers I'm sorry Yeah,

we don't we don't mean to be mean That's just

the type of movie. We don't like We'll be discussing

that Probably closer to the close of this Nate

and I butted heads Talking about some of the

trailers about what movies we do and don't like

and we were going to have a small discussion

on movie genres later. But before we get into

that, let's get into some headlines. So first

thing we got here, apparently Jamie Foxx is to

star in a Michael Tyson biopic. Wow! Michael

Tyson? Mike Tyson getting a biopic. No one says

Michael Tyson Yeah, because probably gonna be

say that he punches you in the face But watch

out man, you're gonna get punched in the face

That said Mike Tyson has in recent years made

it on Broadway show I believe you're kidding.

No. Oh my god That's essentially a biopic on

stage. So the scripts half written for He's actually,

you know, he's done the rounds with the morning

radio stations. I've heard a lot of interviews

with Mike Tyson in the last, say, four years.

He's a funny guy. He's legitimately funny, interesting.

That said, I don't think this movie is going

to be very funny. It's going to deal with all

of the hard issues of the 90s where he was spiraling

down things like drug use, wife abuse, Evander

Holyfield abuse. Am I right? He bit that dude

in the ear. so um apparently being penned by

the wolf Wall Street guy Terrence winter the

two it's been attached to Jamie Foxx Terrence

winter no studio has signed up yet but with those

two guys it's probably gonna happen yeah so look

for that probably in 2016 Next, Dracula Untold.

Luke Evans was asked, the star of the movie,

about it, and he says it's not a standard vampire

film. You know, I don't know exactly what makes

a standard vampire film. I think it's usually

either horror or teenage love based. Right. You

know, like your Twilights. That said, not being

a lovey -dovey teenage film. Which is not what

anyone wants. Like, I don't even think the tweeners

want a Dracula high school movie. No. Well, maybe.

I don't know. Well, it's probably been written

by someone. Someone's written it. Oh, I'm sure.

I'm sure this is Dracula fanfic all over the

internet. Yeah. Please send your Dracula fanfic

into MWR Weekly. Yeah. Well, I mean, we do because

it's at the end of the script. Yeah. There's

a phone number you can call and just read you.

If you call the hotline number and say this is

for MWIRE weekly, here's my Dracula fanfic and

read it. We'll play it. We'll play that entire

manuscript down the air. Anyway, those involved

are saying it's not a vampire film. Even the

director, Gary Shore, said it was a historical

epic first and foremost. Probably following around

Vlad Tepes, who was a historical guy. There are

scares and elements of horror in there, but it's

more of a journey action adventure than with

a big historical backdrop Which has me excited.

That's the thing your traditional Dracula movie

does not interest me other than I want to see

the Nosferatu because that's like the Original

vampire movie, which is weird. I say I want to

see it. I've owned it for years. Oh you have

it. I have it I'm with a different soundtrack

than what was originally played I'm sure we tried

watching it it was really bad well I say really

bad I want to say there's like five of us trying

to watch it and I would love heavy metal I love

heavy metal was not enjoying the heavy metal

they had playing in the background one member

of our party was enjoying I don't remember this

at all now. This is my life with Nate, with me

regaling with times of things that happened a

decade ago and him going, I don't remember that

at all. I'm not in a mean way. No, no. I've got

a terrible memory. You've got a terrible memory.

And sometimes one of us remembers things the

other one doesn't. OK, moving on. Moving on to

some Quentin Tarantino news, which is not something

we get to say often enough on MWIRE. So there

is a couple of things. The first one is Kill

Bill The Whole Bloody Affair. For those of you

who didn't know, Kill Bill was originally supposed

to be one really long movie with a 30 minute

animated sequence in it. According to Total Film,

apparently that sequence could not get done by

the company, the studio that was making it, in

time. And then other studio issues happened,

and so they released two different films with

a shortened anime sequins. So I guess Quentin

Tarantino stuck around, releasing it as a full

thing, extra stuff, releasing it how he envisioned,

and before even being commissioned or even paid,

the studio began work and did the 30 minute thing

that he originally wanted, they had the script

still. Which is awesome. So I guess I ask you

Nate, you've seen Kill Bill? Plenty of times.

Sure. They re -release it. Five hour in the theater

movie. Yup. You gonna see it? Yeah, as long as

there is an intermission. An intermission. That's

fair. I can't... Five hours. Five hours in one

scene. That's an estimated. Without... But it's

probably pretty accurate. Yeah. Especially if

they're adding 30 minutes. Yeah, well it's probably

almost six hours. I would assume. I love Quentin

Tarantino. I've seen every movie that he's come

out with since I've become an adult. Good. I

have not seen Jackie Brown. No. But I think that's

it. You're wrong. What? I mean you should see

it. I know everyone tells me that and I'm excited

to see it when I do eventually get around to

seeing it. So next in the Quentin Tarantino news

duality, he has confirmed as of comic -con that

he is doing the hateful eight. I don't know.

I thought that was a thing. I thought he was

just doing it. I just saw a a movie poster, special

movie poster for. For those of you not in the

know, he wrote this script. And then it got leaked.

And he was like, no. Not doing it. But I thought

he came back already. I guess he must have been

wishy -washy because. Yeah, I mean, because that's

dumb. Because if your script gets leaked, and

then a handful of people read it, and it's like,

oh no. It's like reading a script and watching

a movie is completely different. That's very

true. who cares if all they know plot point like

just make make a good movie and then we'll watch

it and go yeah you made it and i like i feel

quentin tarantino is like one of the biggest

like douchebag for like directors ever but i

love him oh yeah such a jerk sometimes i i have

not watched or read anything about him personally

hearing him speak in public oh yeah he loves

himself he does but i love himself i mean what

I said, I love himself. I love him. I love his

movies. Yeah. Yeah. But man. Stop. Just make

a movie. Make it good. Don't be mean. So at the

Comic Con, he was a little wishy -washy and then

said, yeah, we're doing it. So look forward to

it late next year, early the year after that.

And it's going to be great. Maybe. Maybe it'll

suck. Everyone will be the one that everyone

hates. And then it ends his career. And people

will be like, that's why it's called The Hateful

Eight, because it's hateful, we hate it, and

it's his eighth movie. Is it his eighth movie?

Yeah. That's conveniently timed, Mr. Tarantino.

Also, I mean, I think I would have gone with,

rather than the that's why we hate it, I would

have gone with the Yeah, we all knew it sucked.

We read the script years before it came out.

Shouldn't have made it. Shouldn't have made it.

Do make it. Make it. We're excited, Mr. Tarantino.

We know you're a fan, just like Freddy Savage.

We're sticking to it. So, back to Marvel news,

because here at the GeekCast Radio Network, we're

geeks. We're geeks, and Marvel is geek stuff.

We have a link to a Total Film article that has

ten things they learned about the Marvel movie

universe from the recent Marvel movie panel.

A lot of them, you know, some of them are spoiler,

so be careful. I'm not gonna read all ten, that'd

get a little ridiculous. But I could say that

the villain in the Ant -Man movie is going to

have similar powers to Ant -Man. Evangeline Lilly

has been confirmed for Ant -Man with a name that

suggests she's the daughter of the original Ant

-Man, Hank Pym. But she hasn't even read the

script yet, so she doesn't even know who she

is. Let's see here. Andy Serkis is possibly playing

a human character. Oh, good. I want to see his

face. I mean, I've seen it before. Like, yeah,

in a movie and not just... There's gonna be a

comical scene in Age of Ultron where everyone's

trying to lift Thor's hammer. Josh Brolin is

Thanos, which I don't think is a secret. No,

that's been out a lot. I think that was announced

years ago. And Guardians 2, before Guardians

1 even hit the theaters, Guardians 2 was announced.

And deservedly. Yeah. We'll get to that part

later. But yeah, they're definitely pushing forward

with the Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Another article,

also from Total Film, about the Marvel movie

universe is that Kevin Feig, I'm gonna be just

as bad at pronouncing names as Kevin, says they're

going to try to launch one new Marvel franchise

and one sequel every year. They're doing it,

you know, of course this year with Guardians

and... Cap yeah, um, they're going to try to

keep doing it Like next year is going to be Age

of Ultron and that man, right? Well, I mean it's

good good on them for not just being like well

Iron Man was really successful. So we're just

gonna do Iron Man movies a year or an Iron Man

movie every other year Because they've got enough

properties. They could just do Iron Man cap and

the next one's Thor Hulk Iron Man cap Thor, Hulk.

Which would make a catchy song. No. Probably

not. Probably not. He does talk about, I'm not

going to read the whole article, but he does

talk about how it can be difficult juggling that

many balls. Keeping that many in the air, that

many franchises. Let's say you got by 20... Nineteen

say that's five years. That's four more franchises

on top of the four I mentioned plus you can count

the Avengers as one and guardians at ten That

means ten years before you get a sequel if you

really want one You know and that's it like they

got to make a choice about which ones get which

sequel treatment And that can be difficult So

the whole group will just like The Hulk will

not be good, yeah. Actually, until Avengers did

so well with the two or three one -liners Hulk

got, they said Hulk was not getting a sequel.

Now they're in talks, as we mentioned previously.

To more Comic -Con news, and sorry to anyone

who was glued to their TV watching G4, because

that's a station that exists anymore. I don't

know where you... I don't even know if that channel

exists either. Esquire, G4 changed to Esquire.

Yeah. based on the magazine. I don't think anyone

watches that channel. It still shows Cops and

Ninja Warrior. And X -Play from... Oh, I thought

they were still showing 3 year old X -Plays.

They were shortly ago. I don't know where you

get Comic Con news on the TV. I'm sure there's

a station that does it now that G4 is gone. Might

be Spike. Might be Spike. So anyone glued to

the Comic Con news as it was fluttering out probably

already knows this, but Legendary has confirmed

that Godzilla is going to get the sequel treatment

as well as they're going to reboot King Kong.

It's funny because the article talks about how

they had a clip of Godzilla roaring. The writer

says it looked a lot like it was on Alcatraz

Island as a thank you. It's funny, I think that

clip probably had about as much Godzilla as the

whole movie. That said, I paid for Godzilla,

and if they do a Godzilla 2, I'm probably gonna

go see it. Fingers crossed if it doesn't have

more Godzilla in it though, I'm done with that

franchise. Who strikes you out? Yeah, that's

what you get. Legendary. Yeah, legendary. Seriously.

Pictures. You need more Godzilla in your Godzilla

movies. You have a cool logo, erg. Yeah, it's

like Celtic in design. It's pretty cool. I don't

know. And then they're also doing Jurassic World,

I guess. It's hard to keep track of what studios

are doing what. That said, apparently there was

some buzz about the Skull Island, which is the

King Kong reboot film. which is going to focus

on King Kong before he gets to Manhattan. Cool.

I wanna see baby King Kong learn how to swing

from a tree. I mean, all the trees. All of them.

He quickly outgrows the trees. It's very bad.

It's like a Bill Diggs Roman. So apparently the

teaser they played at Comic -Con showed like

a pterodactyl. some other like some monkey and

then it's like oh this is gonna be Jurassic World

and it's like nope this is King Kong. Booyah.

Booyah. We flipped it. It's apparently not in

related to any previous incarnation not even

the remake with Jack Black that was wildly popular

right here. I watched it. I remember going to

the original or the King Kong from the mid 2000s

whenever it came out. And I was like, they did

it! That is as good as CG's going to get! Cause

that was stupid. Wow. That was like your senior

year of high school. Yeah. It has come a long

way. Yeah. Avatar had not yet happened. I still

haven't seen Avatar. Me either. Yay! Let's not

talk about it. That's like a weird notch in my

belt. Kind of like Robbie, our friend Robbie,

whose dad has never heard Egi Bregi Heart more

than, like, was it Five Seconds In? Yeah. No

one's told him that that's all you need to hear

to hear the whole song. He hasn't finished the

song. I don't actually know if I've finished

that song. It's hard. Who sits through achy breaky

heart? That's probably why Miley Cyrus is the

way she is. That said, I've seen the ads for

Avatar and I've watched the movie Ferdinand Gulley,

so I'm like Robbie's dad. I'm sure I've gotten

it. Isn't it Dances with Wolves, I thought? Dances

with Wolves, is it? Yeah. That was like Burned

Gully. Yeah. And Dan's of the Wolves, I guess

I can see that. There's like some genocidal things

in there. Right. Okay, back to comic book news

from Comic -Con, which is a great place to get

comic book news. They've released the first image

of Wonder Woman from the new upcoming Batman

movie. A lot of buzz about this. I know my personal

Twitter exploded. A lot of anti -arguments. Like

they don't like it? Yeah, a lot of it's too much

skin, it's not very defensive, it's bad armor,

yada yada. Mostly from feminists who do talk

about how this is just designed to be a sexy

outfit for men. That said, it looks like classic

Wonder Woman. It's slightly darker, because that's

the trend in movies. Showing a little less skin.

Less skin? Yeah, it's got some drapes in the

front. The boots go up a little higher. The bracelets

are a little bit longer. It shows a little bit

less. Marginally so. So, you know, take that.

If you haven't seen the pic somehow, it's up.

She's standing on some rocks. She's got a sword.

It's all gray and sad. Yeah, it's very grim and

dark. No one will ever smile in any of these

promos. I wonder if anyone will ever smile in

the whole movie. Yeah, it's... Kinda sad. Fingers

crossed that is good. I think it looks interesting.

It's one woman -ish. It's one woman. It's good.

She looks more like Wonder Woman than Linda Carter

did in the old 70s Wonder Woman TV show, which

I have watched and I have nothing but nice things

to say. That's a good show. It's fun. Next, Snow

White and the Huntsman for those of you who enjoyed

that. Oh wait, I guess... I'm transitioning now

into sequels and remakes. Starting first with

Snow White and the Huntsman, which is coming

out as a prequel. For those of you who really

enjoyed Snow White and the Huntsman, you can

now get more Hemsworth, less Christian Stewart.

That's fine. I have not seen Snow White and the

Huntsman that you have? Yeah, no. No? No, I've

seen the last 30 minutes of it. Oh Okay, I want

to see it. I mean, you know a high -budget Fantasy

ish movie. I'm actually a little bit excited

about this one such as I guess I don't have to

see the first one Watch it because it's a prequel.

Oh, it's gonna focus on Chris Hemsworth Hemsworth

as the the Huntsman. It's called the Huntsman

simply Cool. And it's gonna talk about his dealings

with the evil Ravina. Talking about their relationship

before they got to know and decided to murder

Snow White. Right. Set to come out sometime April

2016. Because movie news is ridiculous sometimes.

Sometimes we need to know three years in advance

that... A guy will play a thing. A guy will play

a thing. So next in weirdly in the future movie

news, Simon West, if you know him from Con Air,

is talking about doing a Con Air sequel. Cool.

I haven't seen that. Talking, of course, I say

mostly to other people. I don't know if he's

talking to any studios. This article is pretty

lax in any details, but he said that there's

always rumors about it And he would do it if

it completely turned the con air franchise on

its head what? Like convicts in space maybe super

convicts What if the good guys are bad and the

bad guys were good? If it has clever writing

he's it there you go. Oh wait wait this guy's

like the directors He's not even writing it Yeah,

I don't even I you know Kevin Kevin would know

would know exactly what he's doing. That's why

he hosts. That's why he My guess is he's the

director and I'm guessing with my mouth moving

as slow as I possibly can because I'm looking

it up He is not a writer he is a director and

he directed con air as his first movie oh wow

good job on you simon west way to go um i well

i wasn't huge into the laura croft movie the

first one and the expendables two i didn't see

but i saw the first one and those are the things

he did uh laura croft the first one the second

expendables keen eddie oh i loved that show he

directed the first like two episodes of that

show It was about an American cop getting transferred

over to England. I don't even know how that works,

but it was fun and funny. Alright, good. Anyway,

another movie that doesn't need a sequel. Top

Gun 2. Yes. Jerry Brockheimer is talking about

how the world is changing technologically. You

know, now that we've got drones who think on

their feet. They don't need Tom Cruise. Do they

need Tom Cruise? Do they? He's getting old. We

don't need Maverick with a big ol' bushy beard.

But do we? Because if you think about it, that

drone can't think on its feet. Right. Except

for, like, if it's truly a drone and not, like,

an AI, like, it's got a dude behind it that can

control it some way. So then it could. Balls

in your court, Jerry Brockheimer. The story is

simply Maverick is just controlling the drone.

He's controlling the drone. They're all like,

Maverick, your ego's writing a check that the

government can't cash because drones are really

expensive. Quit breaking them. He's like, but

I needed to fly into the sun. I don't even know.

I've never seen that movie. Oh, you haven't seen

Top Gun? No. We should watch it. It is literally

great. It is amazing, and it is 80s as shit.

Okay. I like 80s things sometimes. Dude, like,

I'm not kidding. There's a line that's - your

ego's writing checks your body can't cash okay

like that is so great alright anyway um this

next bit of news was teased two stories ago in

the con air article i didn't read it because

when i would have the kind of article i was like

whoa they're doing that and i got this article

like oh they're doing that okay which is that

they're going to reboot the mummy with Matthew

Broderick. No. Adrian Brody. No. Adrian Brody.

No. I could do that. I could see that. I don't

think he'd be good in the role of Brendan Fraser's

character. George... Brendan Fraser! Oh, is that

what you were looking for? It was the original

Mummy guy? Because I think Adrian Brody would

make a good partner to Brendan Fraser. Yeah.

I mean, I like that guy. Brendan Fraser. I don't

know. I think of him as a comedy guy. I remember

loving the Mummy movies at the time. George of

the Jungle. That's the only reason. And Looney

Tunes back in action. What about Bedazzled or

Debbled or whatever Elizabeth Hurley? Bejeweled?

What was the movie? Yeah that was it. Bejeweled?

Bejeweled. I don't think it was Bejeweled. And

then what about Monkey Bone? He was in a lot

of comedies. Yeah you're right. That said...

20 leagues under the sea? 20 leagues? That's

not very many leagues. The hole in the earth

that he fell into once? Land of the Lost? That

was not him. That was Will Ferrell. Yeah, it

was Brendan Frasier, Will Ferrell County. Comedy,

fantasy, action, adventure. This has gotten off

the rails. The article talks about how it's going

to link, it's going to be a crossover linking

classic monster franchises. I don't know quite

what that entails because it says the mummy and

I assume it means the mummy from Brendan Fraser,

not the classic mummy like Abbott Costello. Just

a dude wrapped up chasing some fat people. I

don't know. I don't know. I would watch it. Maybe

I'm not reading the article well and you know

get us in the comments later if I'm doing this

wrong. He's doing a terrible job. Everyone tell

us how terrible of a job man's doing right now.

I don't need to. You do need to tell me. I don't

need to be told because I'm aware. Maybe they

want to just link the franchises of The Mummy

and The Scorpion King. Those movies seem very

similar. Maybe they should do that. They were

already. That was a joke. Oh, whatever. That

was a piss poor joke. I don't like you. So, Romy

and Michelle's high school reunion. I've never

seen that one either. I have been in the area

when it is happening. That looks 90s as crap.

It was. Alright. Apparently, the co -star, that's

not Lisa Kudrow. Robin Schiff is the writer who's

the Maria Sorvino says that Disney doesn't realize

how much of a cult phenomenon it's become. Really?

Is that a thing? What? People like that movie?

I guess. She says people dress up as Romeo and

Michelle for Halloween. Let's make a sequel!

We'll make a million. Roughly. We'll spend 10

million, yeah. Decent budget for a comedy. Yeah,

well, maybe I'll leave it a little low. Kevin

Hart gets 10 million just for doing a movie.

That's a guess, I just assume. And they're gonna

have to get him, because he's a comedy gold -bud

right now. He brings the butts to the chairs.

That's what you need. I don't know if Romeo and

Michelle's 15th anniversary high school reunion

is necessary. Or whatever else they're gonna

grab. Were they supposed to be in high school

when they did that? No, it was in high school

reunion. So 10 years after high school. So like...

That's when you beat your first UVD, I think.

I didn't do that one. We haven't been on high

school for 10 years. Dang! I thought I was older,

that's a good feeling. That is a rare feeling

to be like, oh I'm not that old. Very rarely

happens. I don't know, the only thing I even

remember about the movie, I haven't sat and watched

it. but i remember at one point they're like

let's just pretend that we're rich and that we

created sticky notes oh perfect and yeah because

no one knows no one knows who made them yet um

in the 90s when sticky notes were i guess new

or something i don't know um because you couldn't

get away with that now i couldn't be like hey

i invented sticky notes they'd be like no i had

those in grade school that's like yeah i was

smart it wouldn't work it wouldn't work Okay,

so Don't need to talk about this one Just a little

bit more about the King Kong prequel. It has

its own story Its own article that we're gonna

post And you can read that if you are super excited

for Skull Island. Whoo Okay Next the last in

the sequels and remakes category for those of

you interested Is Beverly Hills Cop 4? Have you

seen any of the Beverly Hills Cop movie names?

All I know is Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop

Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop

Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop Boop

Boop Boop Boop Boop To my knowledge, it's about

a hard -hitting Detroit cop moves to Beverly

Hills where things are a little different. It's

like a fish out of the water story involving

cops. That was done a lot in the 80s, fish out

of water. Oh, yeah. Totally. It was like, hey,

we got this franchise that we don't want to deal

with, but it's called He -Man. Fish out of water.

Make them go into New York and then dress up

in current clothes and people look at them and

go, what is this guy? He's got a sword. Who does

that? Done. That was a movie that existed. Yep.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is set to be R -rated. I'm

dying. Part 3 was apparently more family -friendly.

They're going to move away from that and go back

to its roots. Always good. You don't get enough

R -rated action movies. I'm gonna sit and say

it. Uh, yeah, I guess not. A lot of them are

chasing that PG -13 so that they can get more

butts in the seats, as we talked about earlier.

It's ridiculous, some of these, like, scenes

that I've been seeing in these PG -13. And you're

like, how'd they get that in? Yeah, it's like,

dude, it was violent as crap. Just think about

what they had to cut. Because I'm sure they had

more and it was R, and they're like, this is

R, and they're like, well, what if we cut this

scene? Hercules? Hercules was great. Hercules

was violent. They did a lot of good things, but

it wasn't that bloody. It wasn't bloody, but

it was violent. um bloody is what counts all

right because you can because you could crush

you could literally crush the heads of robots

and drill into robot feats and do all the things

that you would never be able to get away with

humans right because there's no blood okay fair

enough so Beverly Hills cop four you know it's

America's changed since Beverly Hills cop three

Eddie Murphy has changed since Beverly Hills

cop three he's a lot older So maybe it's going

to be like Leave the Weapon 4, where it's like,

hey, you're getting too old for this, plus also

Detroit. I've only seen Leave the Weapon 1, where

he was not old enough. He is not old enough.

They were like, you need to go back to school.

And then Police Academy. You watch that after

that to get a feel for what police school is

like. So. are rated Beverly Hills Cop for let

us know what you think it sounds interesting

if if they if it's coming to the theaters and

we got like a month's advance notice which I

mean I guess we have two and a half years advance

notice at least at least I'll watch the first

three sure I go see it I'm down I'm down for

just about any movies that's it for a secret

what except for horror movies except for horror

movies or thriller or thriller same thing specifically

no dude i will see any michael jackson thriller

movie doubly so if it has michael jackson and

the guy who did the voiceover for that who was

great oh yeah i don't remember who it is i'm

just going to say eliot gould no it's not who

it was um casting so now into the casting call

um so uh Fake rumor, I'm going to say I want

to just go out and say fake rumor fake rumor

fake leaked rumor or whatever Apparently Benedict

Cumberbatch said something about how JBJ Abrams

continues to use Simon Pegg in his movies When

asked about a Simon Pegg was like yeah, it's

in like Mission Impossible Star Wars But I don't

think my face is is for Star or Star Trek rather.

I don't think my face is for Star Wars I think

it'd be too Off -putting and pull people out

of the movie That said, if they give him alien

makeup, put him behind a mask, he could be in

it. I don't know. I don't know what JJ Abrams

and Simon Pegg are gonna do. I'm not super worried

about it. Fake news! Fake news. That's some rumors

from Total Film. Fake news for the week. Or the

month, actually. Oh, we're going back to weekly.

Chat wire weekly, not MWire monthly. If Kevin

isn't here... You'll get more of this jackassery.

You'll be sad, because... He knew what to do.

There are people that were listening six months

ago going, man, I love Kevin and Dan, who might

hear this and be like, uh -oh. Uh -oh. So Idris

Elba is to join Guy Ritchie's King Arthur saga.

Nate and I watched half of Pacific Rim over the

weekend. Yeah. We were trying to pad. We've seen

it before, but I mean. Like a month ago. You

put it on when you're bored and you're just like,

I needed something to watch. I don't do that,

but we had an hour to kill and half the people

in the room had not seen it. So they didn't get

to finish. I think it's a very mean thing to

start half of Pacific Rim and then not let them

finish. They'll finish it. Hopefully. It was

so good that you gotta watch it twice. I've only

mentioned Pacific Rim because it was amazing

in it. Yeah. Like he is in everything. Yeah.

Um, so let's talk about him maybe being a merlin

ass character, which I mean I could I could get

down with india zilba as merlin. Yeah, let's

cut the ass out of there. Um, I think he's great.

Yeah. It'd be great like have it be like black

at the bottom fading into a gray white at the

top. Yeah, very distinguished. Very great. And

he can be serious as shit. Yeah. Oh, like Arthur

fucks up and he's like, oh, yeah. Like, oh. Oh

There's discussions about this Camelot based

films being as many as six movies Because that's

what we do now so like we're like we're gonna

announce a movie and all of its sequels Let's

hope that first one does well And I do because

I mean I want fantasy movies. I like King Arthur.

I like it just Ilba so Guy Richie make it happen

Okay, so some half news. More fake news! More

fake news. We're like the 24 hour news stations

where it's like we got a rumor, let's react.

Yeah. Which is apparently people think that Dwayne

Johnson's going to be Shazam slash Captain Marvel.

According to what he said a couple months ago,

it fit more that he would be Black Adam. That

does fit better. He looks more like Black Adam

than Billy Batson. Right. Because Billy Batson's

12. I bet if Billy Batson's off to Ego Shazam

or catch the Marvel, depending on what incarnation

of the Marvel or the DC Universe, which is exactly

why they don't want that character named Marvel,

the DC Universe we're in. So he said some things

at Comic -Con during like a Hercules panel I

think. that suggest that he might be Captain

Marvel, but anything that suggests Captain Marvel

can also suggest Black Adam because they're the

same character. Right. So, hopefully Black Adam,

because he wanted to be evil. He said he wanted

to be a bad guy who could throw down with Superman.

Yeah, and that would work. That would fit. Yeah.

So... I mean, especially because they don't talk

about it that much. Superman's allergic to magic.

Yeah. So hopefully that comes out and it's good

because he was pretty good in Hercules. So yeah

So our final piece of news for this evening if

you're listening in the evening or morning or

wherever you're listening to is that Bill Murray

Who if you haven't seen a picture of him recently

is definitely getting out in years. Yeah, but

still looks hilarious has joined the cast of

John Favreau's Jungle Book. For those of you

keeping score at home, that means John Favreau's

Jungle Book now has Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong

'o, Idris Ilba, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher

Walken, and Bill Murray. Making it amazing. I

haven't seen a script, haven't read the Jungle

Book, haven't seen any incarnation of the Jungle

Book. I am seeing this one in theaters. Also

on it are names I've never heard of, like Giancarlo

Esposito, which I probably know, so it sounds

vaguely familiar, and Neil Sethi? Probably mispronouncing

it, who's actually, I think, a newcomer to the

movie industry. Bill Murray has been cast as

the role of Baloo, who is one of the... major

characters. So I'm down. Hopefully he does as

good as John Goodman. He's a very John Goodman

-esque character. Who did the voice of him? He's

a very famous Disney guy. I don't recall his

name, though. Kevin is throwing things at his

computer. Yeah, Kevin is hating us. He loves

voice actors, so he knows exactly who that is.

Moving forward, let's talk about trailers. Yeah,

my favorite part. There were a lot of them. That

is not my favorite. You don't like the trailers?

I like, wow, I didn't like this batch of trailers.

Okay, seriously? Like, no, no, no, no. Movie

news is fine. When I see a trailer, then I get

excited. That way you can see what the film actually

looks like. Yeah. It doesn't matter who's in

it. Like, just saying. Oh, it yourself is gonna

be in Black Hawk Down Redux. Like, I don't care.

Is that news? No. Can we break that? Yeah. The

Black Hawk Down, is that a remake or a sequel?

It's actually just a director's cut. They just

photoshopped his head onto, like, Ben Affleck.

Oh, man. Ben Affleck. Nate and I are not the

hosts of your show. This is a bad idea. Thanks,

Kevin! We're sorry, we're ruining your shit.

So trailers. Nate and I sat down together in

the same room and watched every single trailer.

Oh, and that was interesting, watching them together.

We actually didn't watch a couple. The Hobbit,

which we saw in theaters recently. The Hunger

Games Mockingjay Part 1. Which we saw. Did we?

I did. I didn't. I haven't seen any of the Hunger

Games movies. Nothing against them, I just haven't

found myself in a theater with them happening.

But other than that, we pretty much watched them

all. So Nate, what do you want to talk about

first? Birdman. Birdman. For those of you who

saw the first Birdman trailer, it was pretty

weird. For those of you who have seen the second

Birdman, which we posted, even weirder. Yeah.

And I'm completely for this movie. I have no

idea what's going on. I know Edward Norton is

in his tighty -whities punching Kevin Kassar

in the face. Weird. It's Kevin Kassar. It seems

almost like he's going insane, and that's what

this movie is about. A lost -up actor going insane.

I like the idea of people going insane throughout

it, like slowly going insane through a movie,

and that sounds cool to me. It can be done well.

I mean, I've seen it done and enjoyed it. It's

like, have you seen Black Swan? I have not seen

Black Swan. You should watch Black Swan. It's

funny, my microphone is sitting on a copy of

Black Swan right now that I bought and have not

watched. Okay. I got it for like three bucks

at a local DVD store. Yeah. I plan to watch it.

Okay. So yeah, Birdman. I think I'd be more interested

in seeing Birdman, the movie, in the movie. than

the movie itself, but I'm down. Right. It would

just be a bad... It would be a comic book movie

without a comic book backing. Yeah. Which I'm

surprised we haven't had more of. With Marvel's

huge success with their movie industry, I'm surprised

we haven't seen more superhero movies. What?

The budget. on Marvel's movies. It's huge. Huge.

170 million dollars? I don't got that sitting

around. No, no one does. Well, yeah Marvel does.

Bill Gates does. He can pull out his pocket and

make a Marvel movie. He could. He could just

do that. If he kept that money. I don't know

if he has a hundred something million in his

pocket. That'd be really big pockets. But metaphorically.

Lots of toys. So other things the spongebob movie

whoo a second one. Yeah Because there was one

there was one this one's live -action Kind of

3d slash live -action. Yeah, it's a spongebob.

Of course. It's not going to be a dude in a big

old suit That would probably have been funnier

and weirder which is kind of a spongebob goes

for I'm surprised they didn't do it. Yeah they

should have just had a giant sponge like an actual

sponge and then like put pants on him and then

like put a guy in it and have him walk around

and that would be more akin to what I would want

to see in Spongebob when we were watching the

trailer Nate made a point to point out that uh

when Spongebob goes to Sandy's place he has to

put on a helmet for water because otherwise he

will suffocate much like she would suffocate

without her space suit Yet in this SpongeBob

movie, Sponge Out of Water, all of the cast of

Bikini Bottom just wanders the earth out of water

with nothing. They don't even care. But I mean,

it's not it's not a big nitpick. It's just like

it's like, oh, yeah, they did that in that one,

but not now. Who cares? It's a little kids movie.

The thing that's more important is now they're

superheroes. Yeah, I don't know how they get

their powers. They didn't cover that in the trailer,

but they all have superpowers now. I doubt it'll

be very interesting. Probably not. They'll probably

just be like, oh now we have powers! Okay, so

going from one comedy to another comedy, Space

Station 76. Huh, this seems weird. It's weird.

It seems dry. Yeah. Like not like, it's not like

Tammy where the jokes are gonna hit you over

the head. No But sometimes I think the jokes

might even be a little too subtle. I like subtlety.

I really do I don't know. This one seems like

An awkward mixer mixture of subtle jokes and

then really dumb jokes Yeah You know what it

reminds me of it's space anchorman Yeah, a little

bit banker man banker man Which is a different

movie that we're not allowed to talk about Or

in wire adult sex So moving forward there were

a lot of horror movies and he says horror movies

like Like anytime anyone is like scared. It's

a horror movie. Yeah Yes, okay. Okay, so I used

horror movie to find scary movie. I get that

there are differences Because the scary movie

might involve the thriller, it might involve

the horror, which is incredibly gor - gor -ific?

Gor -gorific. Um... Like, I don't want to be

scared. I don't want to pay money to be scared.

Like, I am scared enough in everyday life that

I don't need to pay. But the thing is, is that

if a movie is good, and you like the characters,

and they're in a scary situation, you should

be scared for the characters. I agree. I'm not

saying there aren't great scary movies. There's

some of them that do it really well. I've even

read horror novels and been like, that was really

well done and I enjoyed finishing them. That

said, I don't like scary movies. The graphic

imagery and the jump cuts and all of that really

get to me on a personal level. I work a third

shift job and there are nights where I'm sitting

there at two in the morning like I don't want

to go out to my car because I'm afraid of what

might be out there and I know in my brain there's

no such thing as Freddy Krueger's and Jason's

and Slenderman's but I you know it's hard to

tell yourself that it's an irrational fear and

I'm full of them and I don't want to do it so

there are a lot of scary movie trailers to name

a few I think before I go to sleep Tusk I think

was one wait that wasn't a horror before I go

to sleep with the movie about like the the lady

Loses her memory and then she doesn't know if

her and then it turns out her husband was Butchering

her and wiping her memories out of her brain.

Yeah, that was a fucking scary movie, dude Yeah,

but it's not a horror movie. It was more like

I said scary I said it correctly and that is

a terrifying movie about about how her amnesia

might be caused by her husband which I mean that

one actually has uh that one's the most interesting

of all the scary movies because it starts off

very like oh it's like 51st dates and it's like

the fucking 51st dates only adam stanler is opening

up her brain and shit it's a different take yeah

um thick tusk um horns is a weird scary movie

with like the devil being harry potter Yeah,

Daniel Radcliffe. Stonehurst Asylum, which the

trailer suggests is about an inmate in an asylum

taking over the asylum. Although the guy saying

the inmate had taken over was an inmate at the

time, so it's hard to trust his opinion. Yeah,

asylum movies are always weird because you know

it's not what you think it is because everyone's

crazy. So yeah, it's weird going into watching

silent movie different than Birdman where it's

a guy slowly going insane It's everyone's already

insane. Yeah, so you can't trust your narrator

Although it's got I mean the the guy who is possibly

inmate is Ben Kingsley So I'm willing to believe

that Ben Kingsley is always a villain to the

point where I'm willing to believe When he's

in a good guy role that he's actually a bad guy

That is one of the reasons why Iron Man 3 worked

so well with his character was because he's like

such an intimidating bad guy. You've seen Iron

Man 3. I've seen Iron Man 3 a couple of times.

Who was he in Iron Man 3? He was the Mandarin.

Oh, yeah. You know, yeah. That's why that...

He did such a great job in that movie. He did

such a good job. Okay, sorry, um other horror

movie or other scary movies into the woods Testament

of youth they're there they suffused this way,

you know, it's getting to that time of year what

towards a Halloween yeah need more horror movies.

Well into the woods isn't a horror movie at all

That was the one about the couple that go on

their honeymoon And then she goes into the woods

and gets replaced by a body snatcher. That's

gonna fucking kill him. How is that not a scary

movie? Into the woods is about Johnny Depp being

a wolf. Oh, yeah. What's the one with the woods?

I don't remember. It was the honeymoon. Sorry.

Excuse me. Honeymoon where they go into. No,

into the woods looks great. I'm sorry. I got

a little upset at how many scary trailers. He

was too scared. I don't like I don't like scary

movies. We've talked about this. They like scary

movie, especially in October. I don't like a

scary movie ever. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 looks

funny. It looks funny. I didn't see the first

one. It looks like the first one on crack. And

they're missing, yeah, a little bit. They're

missing John Cusack. He is famous for 80s movies,

and that's kind of why it made that movie good,

was because they went back to the 80s. And then

he was in it. Yeah. Maybe he'll make a cameo.

I don't know. I doubt it. He was not in the trailers.

They wouldn't but they don't show cameos I doubt

it Flowing from that into 80s movies. There was

a Mad Max remake trailer. That looks cool It

looks uh doesn't look much like the old ones

you said you haven't seen them. I have not it

looks It looks way more like the old ones were

brutal. There's something I don't know. It seems

more graphic and scary The the old Mad Max. He's

gonna walk out and get raped. That's actually

kind of what the trailer was. Mad Max walks out

and then gets nearly raped by a band of crazy

-ass guys. I'm gonna go see it. I love the Mad

Max movies. You know, I need to know who is Master

Blaster. I have no idea what's going on. So I'm

excited. Although, you didn't get enough of Max.

I don't know if he looks enough like Mel Gibson.

But we'll see. He doesn't need to look like Mel

Gibson. You know what I would rather have? You

know what this movie reminds me of and I'd rather

have? Another movie in the Mad Max universe that

doesn't involve Mad Max himself. Which is what

this looked like to me. It looked like, you know,

this is just a different thing happening halfway

across the continent. Which is what I would rather

have had. yeah well you know but you know we

get what we get and I go and see them um let's

talk about 50 Shades of Grey 50 Shades of Grey

there was that one uh book that people liked

apparently about the lady and the guy and they

did it a lot I have not read it have you no I

own a copy of it I made it halfway through the

first chapter that's not to say the book was

that terrible um but I have a lot of books that

I'd like to read in that is very low on the list.

That said, from what I remember of my first chapter

experience, they got the main character, Lady,

the Lady main character down pretty well. And

as far as a look, or as far as what? Acting,

where it's like, because, you know, the book

opens up, and I imagine the movie too, opens

up with this woman who works for a paper or a

blog or something, and she's going to interview

Christian Gray, this huge CEO type. And she gets

sick she comes down with bronchitis or something

and she asks her timid roommate To go and do

the interview. She's like I said this interview

I can't you know, I can't interview. I can't

talk you have to do it for me. So timid roommate

goes yada yada love whips chains violence sex,

okay That's enough of that. They did a pretty

good job with her casting and his casting for

that matter to you I mean he does look like a

very Like sexual predator style CEO type, you

know, he's got that young Vigorous look in his

eye. I don't know. All right, I'd see it I probably

won't but I would Other films anyone else that

you really want to talk about me Museum museum

three Don't know whatever. I'm jumping the shark

jump in this jumping the shark jumping the ocean

Full of sharks well straight over to England

right I? Get it. Oh, it's a lot in it. Yeah,

so there's that there's that I mean, it's it's

that way. What's her name? My mind's blanking

got a lady in it got a lady in it She had some

jokes. Kristen Stahl. I don't think so. No, no.

You know, Robin Williams is in it. Yeah. He's

funny. Sometimes. I know Kevin. Kevin? Loves

Robin Williams. Loves him. I like Robin Williams.

In the 90s. He likes him still. I loved him in

the 90s. I don't know if I've seen a Robin Williams

that I like that's been made in the last two

years. Didn't see that didn't see RV didn't see

one -hour photo Neither Robin Williams runs the

gamut and I don't period Okay anyway maze runner

got a new one New one? Is that new? I didn't

see the first maze one and tried it. There's

a lady and then it becomes like almost horror

movie. Oh shut up. Shut your dumb mouth. This

week on MY or Nate gets violent over horror movies.

Your idea of a horror movie is weird. I think

I'm gonna call it there other than The Scribbler.

Oh yeah! Which is based on a comic book series

I guess. Nasty it looks like what you were saying

the low -budget superhero kind of movie It's

like goth teens. It's like goth teens. It's like

hot topic hot topics scribbled all over and and

spat out a movie with really weak fights, which

Yeah, the fight scenes in the trailer pretty

weak in the trailer, but I you know, it's it's

it's a pretty much all female cast you know doing

stuff which is great I mean that's something

we don't get enough of yeah it just sucks that

like it's it it's clearly low budget you know

and doesn't look all that great like it doesn't

have the big enough backing you know it's probably

not the strongest script and they know that Hollywood

is still sticking to their their male leads male

white leads you know get rid of it Yeah, change

it up. Or bore it. That said, change it up with

an original idea. Like, I want less white guy,

trained by white guy, to defeat other white guy.

Yeah. But I don't want King Arthur starring a

lady with like, like a lady King Arthur with

like a black Lanzela. You know, like I don't

want them to take an idea and change it a bunch.

I want them to come up with a new thing. Oh yeah,

yeah. So do that, Hollywood. Balls in your court.

Yeah, Jon Favreau. He'd do a really good job.

He should make a Scarlet Witch movie. That was

maybe... The other one. The other... Black Widow.

Black Widow? It's the Scarlet Witch. Oh, I'd

be down with the Black Widow Jon Favreau movie.

They should just make it. They should just do

it. Do it. That's about half the trailers. All

of them will be in the show notes. Check them

out there. When we come back, we'll be talking

about our main attraction. She'll be a bunch

of films. Lots and lots of films. Which it usually

is, it's just now it's four weeks worth. Yeah.

Okay. like me set me they call themselves the

guardians of the galaxy this might not be the

best idea welcome back welcome back yeah because

we're kind of dragon I get it I'm a dragon hosting

a show and you're all jealous of my wings and

scales rawr Anyway, I don't have the energy Kevin

does he is fit and I am not So we're sitting

down talking Matt yeah, we're talking about uh

what movies we saw last the last four weeks Hopefully

we're doing this rights. I don't remember because

we know we do another podcast and Sometimes we're

talking about movies on there. They're relevant

so Let's try to do this quickly, actually, Nate.

Okay. Let's discuss what movies you've seen,

not, that we have not talked about on MWIRE.

Just tell me what it is, tell me whether you'd

recommend it or not, and tell me why. Okay. And

if I've also watched that movie with you, I will

then also comment. Put your two cents in. And

do all the same. That is... You broke your list.

I broke my list. This is great. My damn... This

is dead air on the radio. We can't cut this out.

I can't. Oh, okay. I won't. No, I know. Okay,

so Rodel Dorado is, I believe, the last one we

talked about. Everything after that. All right.

Number one, true grit. Definitely recommend.

Definitely recommend. Why? Why? Because it is

a great Western, I love Westerns, and the dude

is a cowboy. Le beef. Also, watch sugar with

you. I would also recommend it It's a lot like

the it's a lot like the book that they take some

liberties And I don't think that they're necessarily

bad ones. They're ones that are definitely within

the writing I would also recommend it great movie.

All right, Conan the Barbarian the original Schwarzenegger

one 1982 Definitely recommend definitely recommend.

Yeah, it's it's got everything you want in a

classic fantasy movie Aku is the voice of the

narrator, who is the lore keeper of Conan. It's

great. It's great. Alright. Next. The movie Manhattan.

Woody Allen movie from the 70s. Okay. You love

Woody Allen? I love Woody Allen. Would you recommend

this movie? Definitely. This is one of his better

ones. Oh, okay. It's not my favorite Woody Allen

movie, but it's probably my second favorite.

okay nice um it's it like if you hate woody allen

you'll not like this movie it's it's the woody

allen woody ellenist what movie ever okay but

uh i i just happen to love woody allen okay next

movie next movie legend you watched legend with

tim did not know you watched that without me

tim curry tim curry yeah no i did i'm a little

upset no i watched it um Like when I texted you,

like, oh, dude, you're going to love Legend.

Yeah. I was watching it. Oh, OK. OK. And then,

but the thing was, I watched the theatrical version.

OK. When we watch it, I was going to watch the

director's cut. We're going to have to watch

it. Yeah, we're going to watch it. That was like

we were going to watch it like a month ago. And

we never did. Yeah. Anyway, great movie. A lot

of movies. Liked it a lot. Tim Curry is amazing

as the devil. He doesn't get enough screen time.

the Tom Cruise and the lady from Ferris Bueller

but you definitely watch it for Tim Curry okay

next Disney's Hercules Disney's Hercules good

movie I just watched it I don't know whatever

it's a great movie interesting then Thor the

Dark World to watch that again Thor 2 nice Thor

2 a lot of fun I don't know I that came out last

year I believe so. Yeah. No, I watched it in

theaters and I just watched it again because

it was on because I went and I dog sat with my

boss's dogs and he had HBO and stars and all

that so they were showing a lot of movies. Nice.

They ended up watching a lot of movies at his

house. Cool. That was one of them. And another

one was Batman Begins. Batman Begins. Which liked

it. Yeah? Yeah. I mean I've seen it before but

I liked it. I found on my second viewing of Batman

Begins that I liked it a lot. last that I did

in theaters. Okay, fair enough. Alright. Then

Kevin and I went and we watched Dawn of the Planet

of the Apes. We'll save that one, that's the

theater. Yeah, we won't talk about that one since

it was a theater release. I watched The Meaning

of Life, the Monty Python movie. Nice. I watched

The Lady Killers, which is a... It's a really...

Coen Brothers movie, with Tom Hanks. in a band

of, well a group of thieves, I guess, and it's

about, it's essentially a heist movie where he

rents a basement of an old southern lady and

he's like a southern gentleman type and he lies

to her about being in an orchestra and he and

all of his orchestra friends, but they're not

really in an orchestra, they dig a hole to a

casino to rob it. Okay, and it's it's it's would

you recommend it definitely? Oh, thank you. It's

really good Matt. You'd love it I bet I would

you love it. It doesn't dwell on the whole stealing

part. Yeah, but it's fine. It's still cool and

We watched rise of the plan of the apes we could

talk about that we talked about that right now

right now, okay? I recommend it, definitely.

I am a little more on the fence. I would say,

hey, it's on DVD. It's not going to be that hard

to see. Go ahead and see it. It didn't do it

for me. I did not get excited like everyone else.

I also don't have a huge history with the classic

film. I've seen the first classic one. Yeah,

like a while back, Kevin and I watched the first

five movies and the Mark Wahlberg one. Which

is all of them. Which is all of them. All six

Planet of the Apes. Before the new ones. Before

the Rise first came out. Yeah. So we... You were

down with Planet of the Apes. Yeah. We liked

it a lot. This one's probably the best one before

the current one came out. Right? I'm debating

whether or not I like the James Franco one more

than the other one. More than the brand new one.

James Franco? Yeah. He was the... Oh, no. I'm

talking about before the current new one. Oh,

what are you talking about? Rise and Before.

What about Rise and Before? There's six Planet

of the Apes movies. Yeah. Seven Planet of the

Apes movies. Right. There's five and the one

and then the one. Right. Rise is the best. Out

of those? Yeah. Definitely. Okay. Sorry. Okay.

Next. Then I watched another Woody Yon movie,

Small Time Crooks, which is another heist movie

about digging in a basement. to get some. Yeah,

it's a Woody Allen heist movie and sounds interesting.

It is incredibly interesting because the heist

movie for about half the movie and the other

half of the movie, it's like. A reality TV show.

Kind of well, more of an interview process like

basically the like, and it's not it's just kind

of part of the plot. They start off being like.

Are they being like, interviewed by the police?

Cause that happens in heist movies a lot, like

the heist happens and then they're getting interviewed

by the police. I'm not gonna ruin it. Okay. Because

it's, I want you to see it. Okay. I don't know

how you feel about Woody Allen. I don't know

how I feel about Woody Allen either. I know you

love heist movies. Love heist movies? So this

one is another different take on it. I'm always

down for a different take on a thing I love.

Alright. I got a chance to watch Moonrise Kingdom.

Ah, I'm jealous. Yep, I'm sorry. The, uh... Recommend

not Rugman. Um, yes, definitely recommend. Really

good. Really, really good. Edward Norton is awesome

in it. Phil Murray is not as awesome. He's like,

eh, in it, but he's in it. Yeah. Um, but the

main characters, like the two main characters,

the boy and the girl, are super cool. I don't

know. It was a really interesting story. They

did really weird stuff in it. You gotta see it.

I'm not gonna ruin anything about it, but...

It's good. Okay recommend next man of steel.

I watched again man steel. Yeah breaks the city

that was uh That was it see that that movie is

nearly unwatchable for me. I don't second time

Okay, like I've seen it. I'm good I don't need

to see it. I think I like I I don't think I'm

in the same boat as you After re -watching all

the Richard Donner movies and then Superman Returns,

I was upset that I didn't know anyone who had

a copy of Man of Steel because I wanted to complete

it. Even though it had been less than a year

since I'd seen Man of Steel. Man of Steel barely

came out a year ago from now. And so when I watched

all those movies six months ago, not having a

copy was upsetting even though it had been...

Six months since I've seen it. Do you think it

holds up on a second viewing? I haven't seen

a second time. Okay, but I imagine it would I

don't know you had a lot of issues when we walked

out of that movie and I did not my biggest issue

with it was how Serious it was Yeah, it was there

was no lightheartedness. There was no like there

were a few jokes very and then they weren't even

that funny No The Richard Donner stuff is too

light -hearted at times, I would say. Yeah, but

it's Superman. And ridiculous at times. I'm wearing

a Superman shirt as we speak. You are wearing

a Superman shirt. I like Superman. Yeah. I like

him more when he's not being the sad man. You

like the big blue boy scout that's not internally

conflicted. And I understand that. That's what

Superman has been a lot. Next. Next. You broke

your phone. I broke my phone again. I watched

Show Wars, New Hope. A New Hope, good one. Good

one. Classic. Not much to say about that, I've

seen it a lot. Watch it if you haven't, but if

you haven't and you've found M -Wire, I don't

know what you're doing. I know a couple people

who are adults that haven't seen it and I don't

know what they're doing. Matt and I watched Heat

together. Heat, classic heist movie. About, oh,

eight months ago now, I think. I asked everyone

at my workplace, what's your favorite heist movie?

I'm trying to watch every heist movie I can think

of. What's your favorite heist movie? And I tried

to collect as many as I was told. Heat was number

one, most suggested heist movie of all of them.

Robert Downey Jr. is not in there. No. I don't

even know why I wanted to say Robert Downey Jr.

Because you wanted to say Robert De Niro. Robert

De Niro, different R .D. Robert De Niro is in

it. Fighting Al Pacino. Right. It also has other

greats like Danny Trejo. Right. Isn't it? He's

in it for a second. He is an important mover

and shaker in that movie, even if he's only at

the beginning and the end. Other famous people

that I don't remember now. Two weeks later. Yeah.

There was a lot of things. There were a lot of

people. It was one of those like, oh, hey, movies.

So it's like, oh, hey, that guy's in it. Oh,

hey, that guy's in it. And that kind of killed

it a little bit for me, because it was like,

oh, hey, I'm watching a movie, instead of actively

participating in the... I feel like the first

half an hour it was constantly, oh, hey, plus

it was an old DVD. It didn't have a title menu.

I plugged it in, and then immediately there was

a heist happening. I was just not sucked in at

all like it might have been different if we'd

seen in the theaters But sitting down here for

that first half an hour. I was out of it But

after that first half an hour passed I was sucked

in it got intense. Yeah, it was definitely an

intense movie and If any of you have ever played

which I'm assuming a lot of you have if you like

video games Grand Theft Auto 5 GTA 5 pulled so

much from this movie, it was ridiculous. It was

almost distracting how like, oh yeah, this kind

of reminds me of that one mission in GTA 5. I

don't know, it's a LA heist movie and GTA 5 is

a LA heist video game. Yeah, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I liked it a lot. I'm glad it was recommended

to me. So that's your list. I got, wait. Well,

one more. Turtles we watched the original or

1990 1990. Okay, I mean that was uh Not as good

as I remember Wow, yeah, it didn't hold up as

well. I would go the opposite direction you thought

better than I remember and I'm afraid that that

might be the best live -action turtles movie

we ever get me too Although that being said The

I still think the the CG turtles from like 2007

or something. Yeah, it's the best turtles movie

ever made. Okay. That was like your first date

with your current fiance, right? Yes. Yes. I

never saw that movie. It was good. It looks good.

I liked it. So that is your list. Recommending

that one. Yeah, I'd recommend watching the turtles.

I just don't think it's as good as I remember

when I was like eight or whatever. Okay. Movies

that I saw that Nate wasn't there for, I don't

have a fancy list, so I'm sorry. I remember watching

The Sting, which is a heist movie. From the 60s.

Yes, I believe 60s. Cool. Robert Duvall, Paul

Newman. Yes. It's really good. It's classic.

It's classic. I would recommend it. I don't know

if I want to do it again. It's pretty long Yeah,

and it's very low -action if that's what I did

back then, but it is intellectual heisty fun

I really enjoyed it, and I would also recommend

it That's all I remember I can't remember I got

a terrible memory I need to do the list you got

the list and it works. I need even INDB has a

free free list making thing yes That's that I

was with you on almost half of those the ones

that you didn't watch it. Do they? I feel like

there was another one, but I can't remember it.

Well, let's talk about the big movies the big

movies starting off with Planet of the Apes Yes,

you saw that alone. You do see I did not see

it not see it Don of Planet of the Apes Don of

Planet of the Apes the newest one This is old

news. It was good Definitely go see it if you

haven't Especially for one scene involving a

tank there's there's just a cinematography It's

just it's the cameras making love to you. There's

action scene. Oh, it's amazing beautifully shot

have to see this well -edited Basically, they

they strap a camera to a tank. Yeah that rotates

with with the shooting Yeah, and then and it

doesn't get cheesy it stays well And you see

all of this action happening as where it points

to and it's kind of like and stuff is going on

the foreground So it's going on the background.

It's super well composed Great shot and that

alone makes that movie worth going to that and

monkeys riding horses shooting AK -47s shit I

have a friend who actually said that that was

a reason why he didn't want to see it like it's

monkeys ride around on horseback shooting a 47

That's dumb friend. I agree. I think that is

not a good argument, that sounds to me. It's

a lot of fun. That said, I don't think, I think

I like the older one better because it had more

of a human, not a human story because you do

feel for Caesar and his family in the new one.

Okay. And he's definitely the main character.

Okay. Instead of like James Franco being the

main character. Yeah. But I did kind of miss

the relationship between Franco and Caesar. I

was really into it in The Rise of the Planet

of the Apes. Yeah. And in Dawn, there just wasn't

that human to ape relationship that really, like,

there's one guy that really is fighting for the

apes, but I didn't feel for him as much as James

Franco. Okay, interesting. But you'd recommend

it? Absolutely. Good cinematography. Well. Good

story, good everything. Okay, great. Great movie.

Great. If you haven't seen it, watch it if you

have, comment. Other than that, we've got just

the two we've watched this last week, right?

Last week. So, in the last week, Nate and I went

and saw two movies. First, we'll talk about Hercules.

Hercules! With Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Yeah.

So, let's try to do my best, have an impression

here. What were your feelings going in? What

were you thinking when you went in? That's very

good. I didn't know what to think. I was like,

either it's going to be a really, really terrible

movie. There's three outcomes. It's going to

be terrible, but hilarious. It's going to be

terrible and depressing to watch, or it's going

to be amazing and awesome to watch. OK. And that

was the feelings you had going in. It's going

to be one of those three. Yeah. We recently saw

the other Hercules movie that came out in February.

Terrible and depressing. Number two. Why did

they make this? Going in, me personally, I was

super stoked. I saw these trailers and I was

like, some of these shots are beautiful when

he's jumping over the boar and the trees just

exploding around the boar. I was like, yes. So

I went in really excited, which is something

I don't like to do. I like to have low expectations.

So I went in taking time bomb as you were So

I guess Kevin likes to go next to what were your

initial thoughts when it ended I It's borderline

amazing for me, yeah, it's really good action

movie But I don't know how well it's gonna like

I don't know if in 10 years I'm going to look

back and go, hey, remember that Hercules movie?

I really like that. We should pop it in and watch

it. Have a great old time. I don't know. That

came out, you're like, that was really good.

I don't know if it'll hold up. Yeah. I guess

I was in a similar fashion, though not. Because

I came out going, that was what I wanted. OK.

I've been talking on wire about how I want a

good fantasy movie. And this hit every single

point I had. You hit all your good notes. It

was awesome. So when I came out of it, I was

just like, I was trying to figure out what was

wrong. Because there's always got to be something

wrong. Yeah. I was trying to nitpick, and it

was hard. So coming out of it, I was like, I

have to get this on DVD because I have to see

it again. Just to nitpick it. Just to find something

worth saying, hey, it's not a 10. Right. I think

it, like, it can't be a ten. It could be. It

could be? It could be. It's a little light on,

like, emotional weight and acting and stuff,

you know. That's some of the things that I'm

kind of glad for. Like, I don't know. So, I guess

we'll talk about the main body of the movie.

Unlike a lot of movies nowadays, they didn't

force a love story in there. Yeah, there was

there was no forced love story. They're like,

but there were stories There was love among characters

like this character loves that character's character

has a wife whatever I don't know. I feel like

You know depends on how you like to rate movies

This thing does not Change the fantasy style.

It doesn't remake the wheel. It doesn't invent

something entirely new But that doesn't bother

me. There are a few things I might have changed.

I might have given it either an additional leading

female or a stronger leading female. But other

than that, it's hard to find problems with it.

If the problems are, well, it could have been

a little better in this department. I don't know.

That's a weak argument to me. Yeah, I mean, it

definitely had a lot of strengths, especially

the combat scenes were joyously fun. Yeah, like,

and they ranged the whole range from like, yes,

this is badass to this is almost comic. Yeah.

Like the whole spectrum. Yeah. It was it was

a fun movie to watch. Yeah, it was definitely

fun. And that's that's one of the one of my Personal

virtues of a movie like if a movie has a heart

to it. Yeah, you can tell that it was it was

made to be fun or made I don't even know what

I'm trying to say like like if it If it's fun

fun fun, that's that's what we go. It's diversion.

That's why we go to the movie dudes So yeah,

it was it was great They did some, I said, you

know, like it doesn't need to reinvent the wheel.

They did do some changes to the classic Hercules

story in this movie. One of them being the gods

and magic are not heavily involved. Every time

the gods or magic are involved, it's always secondhand

information or other like questionable narrators.

You could never trust the narrator when it's

talking about magic or the gods. But at the same

time, it's not 100 % discrediting, ever. Right.

It's a gray area. I like that. And then what

Hercules does and doesn't do. Like, does he lift

the mountain? Does he do this? Always again,

a lot of the time, secondhand. And they do a

lot of interesting points with that. You know,

fantasy movies happen a lot with parties and

everything. This has a party. He's not Hercules

by himself the whole movie. Cause that could

probably get pretty boring. Yeah. I'm glad they

gave him a party. They gave him a whole full

ensemble party. You were saying how much of a

D &D movie this was. It was more D &D than it

was Hercules in my mind. Yeah. It was like we

got a barbarian who uses a club and then we got

a warrior. We got an archer. We got a bard. Like

that's Dungeons and Dragons and shit. Yeah. There's

a guy who's literally his job is not combat based

at all. He tells stories. Yep, and he was a important

character to the thing. I loved it. Yep It was

incredibly reminiscent of like Conan the classic

Conan where it's like it was it wasn't just one

dude Even though it's named after one dude. It's

not just one dude doing shit Like he has a party

and everything the point I wanted to make you

to try me about Conan the point I want to make

about Mad Max you're saying that I doesn't look

enough like Mel Gibson's like that's character

man like like Or it's working Schwarzenegger

looks nothing like, you know Conan. Oh in other

forms. Oh, yeah I get you I get you but at the

same time I don't know like if if they do a prequel

Star Wars prequel and they have a Han Solo character

and he has the wrong hair color and the wrong

build I'm gonna be upset cuz we got this character

And if we're doing this character again or differently,

I want it to look like that character. You know,

it's one thing if the artist of Conan Comics

is not drawing Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it's

another thing if they do a sequel or a prequel

or even a reboot and the character looks nothing

like the character that everyone knows and loves.

That bothers me. I don't know. Well, I don't

know. It doesn't bother me that much. OK, that's

fair. Anyway. Anyway, Hercules, let's give it

some star ratings. On a scale of one to five?

I think that's what we do on the wire. That's

what we do. I'm sorry, I have a different scale.

I do one to 10 and it's a different thing. It's

too much. For pizzas. For pizzas. I give it five

pizzas out of five. Five pizzas out of five.

Is that what you give Hercules? No. Because you

can't tell me you can't give it a perfect score

and then give it a perfect score. Yeah, no, Hercules.

It's a great action movie. With more than just

action to it. Right. But not too much more forced

into it. I'm not sure... I'd give it a four.

Four? Yeah. Okay, I mean that's fair, that's

good. That's watchable. No, obviously. That's

theater watchable. Like 2 .5 is watchable. Okay,

whatever. 2 .5 is failing. It's failing to meet

its mark. It's failing to do what it's supposed

to do. That is an average movie. No, average

would be three. Why? Because. Because I say that.

That's like saying, oh yeah, no, I mean a 50

% on a test is average. It's not. I'm not, our

scale is busted, dude. Is it? Yeah. Because like

70 % good is average. That should be. Like if

a movie is 50 % shit, I don't wanna see it, right?

But if there's 50 % that's okay. That is not

worth it. No, dude. My rating scale is like,

one is unwatchable. Okay. Two is like, there's

some good ideas but it's a terrible movie. Three

is, well. Above average. Slightly above average.

Slightly above average. Okay. And four is really,

really good and then five is perfect. And then

five just doesn't happen. Five never happens.

Except Grand Budapest. No, you gave it a 4 .5.

You gave it a 4 .5? I should have given it a

5. And you were saying maybe a 5, maybe a 5.

Which is exactly where I was, I think. So that

said, I give this a very solid 4 .5. It could

see 5. It could see where that is and it's like,

I'm almost there. Literally, Hercules is my number

two movie of this year after Grand Budapest.

Go see it if you haven't it's been out for almost

a week. No a little over a week two weeks a Week

in four days, whatever from the recording this

who knows this will actually get out if ever

We're just sitting in a room recording shit Never

get out. Oh Yeah, we recorded him. Why? We recorded

all four weeks. You were gone. I don't know what

happened. It just didn't get on the internet

Okay, we're done So finally, the big movie of

the last weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy. Three

Amigos. So we went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy

together after a very long and tiring day. Oh

my gosh. I don't want to talk about that. You

don't want to talk about that. We did the Warrior

Dash. The Warrior Dash of Wisconsin. Man, I almost

died. I almost died. Figuratively. Me, Nate,

Kevin, and a couple of our personal friends all

went and did a WarioDash, which is a three mile

obstacle course. WarioDash .com if you want to

read about it. We're not going to post pictures

or anything if you really want to know about

it, follow us on Twitter. Sorry for that interlude.

It was fun. And afterwards, we had a huge burger

and I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy. So,

Guardians of the Galaxy, initial thoughts? That

is Hammock kissing a butthole and exploding.

I don't know what comedian came up with that,

but that's a thing. Yeah, no, he's saying magnificent.

Magnifique. You enjoyed it. I liked it a lot,

yeah. It's one of Marvel's better movies by far.

I might put it over cap. Might put it over cap

one definitely over cap two. So you say Definitely

over a cap. Well, no, no, I might put it over

cap two this year. Oh I'm not sure you put cap

one over cap two. Yeah. No, no, okay So you're

saying maybe over cap to definitely over cap

to definitely over captain now it's saying I

don't say that. I like it a lot. That's it's

like me it ages and it gets better as time goes

on His head like to that point where it was close

and then it surpassed in split seconds My initial

reaction Going in I was pretty excited because

the trailer like actually when I first heard

about I was like I don't know if they're gonna

be able to do that Well, and then I any news

that came out I was like, I don't know and it's

like look at the way they change that outfit.

I don't like that and then I saw change I dislike

I just like the idea of someone going, hey, I

have this idea and it's great. Then someone else

going, that idea is great, I'm gonna take it

and then change a little bit of things and then

try to sell it to the same people that liked

it the first time. Like, we liked it the way

it was, why did you change it? Just adapt it

to the new medium. Like, I am all for, if you

wanna make a different movie with a talking raccoon

and not change his outfit, or, and change his

outfit, but don't call him Roger Raccoon, I'll

be down. But I mean like why take something fundamental

to the character? Do they change Roger Rickett's

outfit? Entirely. Okay. Same with Starloaf. Yeah.

That said, there were a number of changes that

were made that were just stylistic changes that

I was very worried about. There were even bigger

changes that we'll talk about in a minute here.

Huge changes to the Marvel Cosmic Universe. But

yeah, so I'm always worried whenever they start

changing outfits, especially when I like a design

goes backwards. Like, I really enjoyed Star -Lord's

design in the comic books, and I really enjoyed

Rocket Raccoon's design in the comic books, so

changing those were a little upsetting. Like,

Gamora in the comic books, eh, I can give or

take her various costumes, especially her 80s

costume. Really, really bad. So, like, her changing

a little bit didn't bother me. You know, it's

like that. It's like, if a change is better,

I'm all for it. And I don't know if the changes

were... But that's such a minor point. It's not

even nitpick because it's not like I'm like going

oh I was just saying it had me concerned But

from the first trailer on I was down And I uh,

and so yeah, that was where I was going in and

coming out Uh, I was I was excited. It was better

than I thought it could be Yeah, like I didn't

think it was gonna be that great Like I was like

it's probably gonna be fun and I want uh, you

know, I want I want fantasy movies number two

Science fantasy movies space fancy movies like

I love Star Wars. That's what that's what gets

me Yeah, like I left this movie thinking that

was best Star Wars movie. I've seen in a year

or five Whoa, buddy Empire turn a return I think

no 20. I think it's 20 on the nose It's close.

1994? 30. 30 years ago. You know how early you

did feel old? Yeah. How do you feel now? I wasn't

born when that came out. I know, but I still

feel old. OK, whatever. Star Wars is older than

the... It always has been. It always will be.

OK. So yeah, it was very Star Warsian. And that's

to its credit. Right. So what do you know about

the Guardians of the Galaxy? I know literally

nothing. I've never bought a comic. Not a single

comic. I've never read a comic or bought a comic.

I just didn't. I don't even know if I've read

a story where the Guardians were in it and like

they were just side characters. They're a relatively

new group. OK. They were first formed your last

year or two of comics. Okay. Because Nate stopped

reading comics five, six years ago. Yeah. At

least stopped reading Kate's books hardcore like

he was at one time. Yeah. I think they've only

been around since like oh six. And it's not that

I don't like comics anymore. It's I have no money

for it. They're an expensive hobby. Three dollars

a book for roughly 15 minutes worth of entertainment.

Yeah. It's not feasible. And they're getting

harder and harder. But that's not what we're

here to talk about. Although if anyone has a

kind of a podcast and wants me to rant and rave

for a few hours, I'm more than willing to come

on. I personally, when I first heard the announcement,

I had not read much. I had read bits and pieces

of the first Annihilation story. Like I read

the first Quasar book. She doesn't even appear

in this movie. I read, you know, bits and pieces

here and there. I think I read, like, the two

-part Galactus. This is what Galactus is doing

during The Annihilation. He wasn't involved in

this movie. Right. Because he can't be. Which

actually gets me to my next point, but it's not

time to transition to that yet. So I went in,

but when I heard about this, I was still subscribed

to the Marvel digital comic universe or whatever

the hell they call it now. They keep changing

the name, I think. They keep changing exactly

what it entails. So I went and I read the first

four, I mean the four -part, I believe, the Super

Scroll story, the four -part Drax the Destroyer

story, just all the things that led up to the

Annihilation wave without reading the first Annihilation

thing, and without reading the Guardians of the

Galaxy core book, which meant I had a framework

of what the Cosmic Marvel Universe is like. without

having specific details about Star -Lord Ragnarok

or Gamora or Groot. Did they get Groot right,

at least? Seems like pretty easy. I just said

I didn't have a framework on that character.

You don't know anything about him? I don't know

anything about him. Dang! I do know at one point

he is... I know at one point there's an action

figure of him where he's a tiny little Groot

in a pot. That's all I know. That's actually

literally all I know about Groot. Until the toy

came out, I didn't even know he existed. Okay.

So I went in with the least amount of knowledge

I've ever had in a Congress movie, knowing it

was a Congress movie, because when I saw V for

Fredetta, I didn't know it was a Congress movie

until later. So this is the least amount of knowledge

I've ever had going into a Congress movie, let

alone a Marvel movie, which is still to say more

than your average viewer probably. So I was super

excited and a fan of it. Oh, another book that

I read was the NovaCore books, which is what

I want to get into now is the massive changes

to the classic Marvel that I mentioned earlier.

So, in classic Marvel universe, there's this

race called the Kree, and they have forever been

at war with this race called the Skrulls. Yeah,

there were no Skrulls. There were no Skrulls.

Do you know why there were no Skrulls? Because...

too complicated no why my money and i and again

this is entirely just in my mind and i think

i'm right they don't have the rights for scrolls

went with the fantastic four really they had

to have huh there was there's no reason not to

evolve the scrolls okay um other than the scrolls

went with the fantastic four because they are

the quintessential fantastic four villain right

like if you look at the first ten issues of fantastic

four It's Mole Man, Doctor Doom, Skrulls, Sub

-Mariner. That's it. Papa Master and one of them,

I think. But I mean, like, they fight the Skrulls

a bunch. And it would not surprise me at all

if the Skrulls went to, was it Fox? I think so.

Might be Sony, but I think it's Fox. Yeah, it's

Fox. Yeah, Fantastic Four and X -Men. So... I

think that that's why they didn't involve the

scrolls. They might have had the rights to them

and didn't involve them because it could be complicated,

because the scrolls could be complicated. But

I think that complicated is kind of the thing

that they want. Every time they got really super

complicated, they would make it funny. Yeah.

And then you didn't worry about it. Yeah. And

then they're like, hey, guys, they're like, hey,

audience, don't worry about it. They don't even

care. And you can definitely see other things

where they decomplicated it like the Nova Corps.

Yeah. In the comic books, Nova Corps is a lot

more like the Green Lantern Corps, where they're

super -powered individuals that are police, similar

to the Nova Corps in the movie, but less powered

in the movie. And they took an entirely different

change with Nova Prime. Oh yeah? Richard Ryder,

Nova Prime in the comic books, is the lone survivor

of the Nova Corps. When all the members get killed

by the Annihilation Wave, he gets all the powers.

because the power is distributed among all members

equally so when all members are dead he has one

thousand percent power okay he's just unbeatable

super superhero um and so in this one they made

the nova prime into a governmental official yeah

interesting glen close glen close which i did

not know she was in it you know glen close is

yeah um i did not know she was in it until the

opening credits Um, so sorry if I ruin that but

her name is in the opening credits as Glenclose

And I was like reading that like maybe it's a

male Glenclose Like Richard Ryder was not Glenclose

like he was like a 30 something guy not a 60

something woman Anyway, how was the movie the

movie itself? With all of my little quips about

it's changing But again a lot of that had to

be necessary they might not have had the rights

to the Skrulls and they're not going they don't

want to follow in the footsteps of the Green

Lantern movie which didn't do well they had to

connect it more to the uh to Thanos yeah but

i mean they could have done that with Nova Core

being left intact and Skrulls being left intact

they could do just as much Thanos okay um and

they took an interesting turn with Ronan the

Accuser um and Thanos Thanos actually they they

did Thanos really well well he hasn't had much

screen time yes to to be ruined yet but they

like that's kind of thing to see anyway yeah

he's he's doing his thing um it's not his time

to step off his throne yet so why would he yeah

like it was it was good i enjoyed they know they're

gonna do the whole like i'm in love with death

probably now okay they're probably going to put

an illusion to him falling in love with death

and that's it. Okay. Or maybe, you know, it's

probably going to be literally a throwaway line

like Thanos loves death and it's like, you mean

killing? Yeah, it's gonna be like a throwaway

line. Probably. That said, they brought in this

interesting concept of Thanos killing people

off and then adopting their kids as his own kids

and making them into warriors. Which gave us

Nebula, who I thought was an amazing character,

who I hope is an action figure. Fingers crossed.

I like Karen Gillian, and then I've never seen

her in such amount of makeup, and they did a

really good job with it. Yeah, it's still...

I still, like, kind of could see her mannerisms

through to all the makeup. Oh, yeah? Yeah. I

don't feel like that came through to me. You

know, I feel like she was a lot less quirky.

Oh, well, I mean, obviously, definitely. She

was a lot different than Doctor Who. Yeah. I

don't know just like sometimes she would like

look different Okay, okay, um Anything you want

to talk about? No, okay. Well, let's get out

to the star ratings You talked about it well,

I you talked about all the little they know no

spoilers It's a lot like Star Wars and it's a

lot of fun way Groot and Raccoon are great characters.

They balance off each other really well, one

being very angry, one being very kind. Yeah.

And they did some really interesting humor things,

like Drax was way more humorous than this than

he was in the comic books, much to the movie's

benefit. Yeah. But I mean, there was even unintentional

humor that was like, intentional, unintentional

humor, where it's like, this wasn't a joke. to

the characters, but it's clearly a joke to us.

Like when Star -Lord tries to woo Gamora at one

point. It's really well done. There's a lot of

funny bits, a lot of action bits on a lot of

stuff. They hit the summer action blockbuster

perfectly. Hopefully it beats Transformers because

it's better. So, star rating on this movie? 4

.5. 4 .5. 4 .5. Ben Hercules better than Cat

2. Top 3 for you for the year? Maybe, we'll see.

I will give it a high 4. High 4! High 4. That

was a high 5. We didn't put our thumbs away.

This is great for radio. Visual stuff. So I give

it a high 4. I would put it above. I don't know,

I want to say it's better than Cat 2. I want

to say it's better than every Marvel universe

movie. Better than Cat 2, better than Days of

Future Past, better than Spider -Man 2. Better

than Chef, which I think I gave a 4 .5. It's

hard. It's hard. This has been a great year for

movies so far. So far I have enjoyed this year

a lot more than I have in a long time And this

one is just a part of it. If you haven't seen

it go see it Because it needs to be transformers

Yeah, just make sure beats transformers and it's

gonna get a sequel so you might as well watch

this one before that one comes out Do it in theaters

So that is it for our main attraction when Kevin

comes back he has also seen sex tape and Tammy

in theaters and he saw Dawn so he'll talk about

those when he gets back if that ever happens

hopefully next coming out and blu -rays this

week Divergent is finally hitting the blu -ray

so is Need for Speed I would have expected that

sooner considering it didn't do too well That's

about it. There are other things, like Full Monty's

coming out again, I guess. Yep. Yep. Next week

for movies, you know, I want to say The Hundred

Foot Journey's coming out, because I wanted to

see that, but really it's one movie. It's Teenage

Mutant Ninja Journals. Yeah. Which is going to

probably undercut The Guardians. What was The

Hundred Foot Journey about again? That was the

other foot movie. Is that a movie about feet?

Delicious feet. The foot clan. The other foot

clan. It was the other food movie. Oh yeah, yeah,

yeah. They're opening up against turtles. Good

luck. Okay, I'm really, really interested in

turtles. You're really interested in it. I want

it to be good. I want to be able to get over

the fact that the designs are bad. Yeah. We can

agree that designs are bad, and Megan Fox is

bad at acting. Well, I think other guys would

disagree with you, but I think she's a bad actress.

Oh, credit conversation. I totally forgot that

that's a thing we do. I was literally getting

ready for next week's question in the outro.

Oh, next week's question? I already have a question.

Good. I don't. months question Was the museum

because the Star Wars museum opening up in Chicago

that I can't wait for I'm gonna go into that

Probably two years after it's opened when it's

died down So Other things I don't want to just

sit here and read everyone's comments But someone

saying a night of the museum museum would be

a good idea with this third movie it's possible.

They've got a lot of things, so... I could get

down, I could see that. At least as a, maybe

if not a permanent installation, a small thing

at another museum. Right. Because they like to

do that sort of thing. And I'd go there. King

of Kongs talked about how LEGO lands are like

LEGO museums. Yeah. I like that. You know, we

have the Butter statue museums, right? Why can't

we have just a... a creator uh create statues

of legos and stuff i mean you see them all over

the place yeah like i could see a museum of just

that or at least again a small section of a museum

i don't know i find it hard to have a museum

devoted to one thing unless it's like science

or industry which actually chicago has a science

and industry museum so even those that would

get a full billing right um so yeah It's hard

to see that, it's an interesting question. Oh,

Batman and Star Trek Museums are both great ideas,

especially because Batman has been done so many

different times. He's been done how many different

times in just the movies, like five, six, so

even more if you go back to the 40s movie or

whatever. And then how many times when he's done

in theaters and TV. and then comic books, and

then novelizations. So I could definitely get

behind a Batman. Star Trek has less content than

Batman, but also has been in a lot of things

even to various comic book franchises. One thing

Ryan Castro mentioned was Art of the Steel's

on Netflix. We forgot to mention we watched Art

of the Steel. Oh, I did not put that on my list.

You did not put it on your list. That was a good

movie. Heavy recommend. It was a lot more campy

than I thought. That's a good thing. Campiness

is fun. So yeah, we saw that and that was good.

One guy suggested, superfilmsfan98, I'm gonna

name all of you guys. I'm gonna fucking list

all of the names. Stanley Kubrick Museum came

to his town and had great things in it. Or would

love if it was Stanley Kubrick. And it would

have great things in it. Which I could see. Directors.

It's a different choice, you know picking a director

and being like this is the films he did music.

Um The art direction in that museum would be

amazing. Yes. So yeah, I mean those are those

are the different idea You probably could do

a whole museum. Um, and so That's a great idea.

I think that's a one of the more inspired ideas

actually because because that gives you a bigger

range because like there's only so many times

I can look at a dude in a bat suit but like a

Spielberg or Scorsese like film fun mention or

even like a Quentin Tarantino where every movie

is very different than the last even though the

scripts might be similar gives you a more interesting

thing to see in a theater so great comments I

hope I get some good comments based on my question

forgotten. So, doing the outro here. Oh, the

question I had thought of was based on Nate and

I's arguments over horror, scary, whatever. What

genres of films do you not like? What can't you

stand for, if anything? And don't just say romantic

comedy, because that's the one that we're gonna

get a thousand of. And why do you not like it?

Because if you don't, I get it if you don't like

rom -coms. They're often times an easy thing

to hate. They're very similar. They're very formulaic.

But guess what? So are all movies. Because you

find the formula that works and then you keep

repeating it until you stop making money. And

there have been rom -coms that have tried to

reinvent the wheel. Like a lot of them. Love

Actually is amazing. Like that is a great movie.

So anyway, Liam Neeson. Really? is the main character.

He's like the lead. What year did this come out?

Uh, like 10 ago. Liam Neeson? In the rom -com?

Yeah, dude. Dude, you haven't seen Love Actually?

No. We have to sit down and watch it and cry

together sometime. And cry? Yeah, dude. Dude,

I don't want to cry. It's not like notebook crying.

It's like, oh, that dude found love. I'd rather

be scared than cry. It's like happiness crying.

It's a very sweet film. Anyway, of course, as

always, there are plenty of ways to get ahold

of us here at MYR Weekly. We have the voicemail

line, which you can call 502 -526 -5821. If you

call that, make sure you mention MYR Weekly and

we will air your call, I've been told, on the

episode. Who tells us when we get a call? Someone

will contact Kevin. And then he will contact

us. Okay. We don't have the connections with

the GeekCast Radio Network like Kevin does. He's

done multiple different shows on this. We have

only done M -Wire and one episode of GCR and

Wars. Yeah. We're getting our foot in the door.

Hashtag pirate school. Oh yeah. Hashtag vote

for pirates and ninjas or whatever. I'm bad at

hashtags. Oh, okay. That's a really long hashtag.

Email us at feedback at geekcastradio .com. Put

MYR probably in the title of that email if you

want it to get to us specifically. Of course,

they're the most common way to get ahold of us

in the forums, geekcastradio .com, where we will

read them. We'll do any of these in the credit

conversations if you get ahold of us anyway,

including iTunes. We checked for iTunes reviews.

I forgot to check this week, but I will check

before the next episode airs if you have an iTunes

review. all the iTunes reviewers, they never

fantasy short story, we read them, we comment

on them, and then we banter for another 5 -10

minutes, and that wraps it up in about an hour.

45 minutes to an hour. Yeah, it's lighter, there's

no news. No news. No news to bother you. No trailers,

no links yet to click. It's very easy to digest.
