Today on MWR Weekly we'll be discussing everyone's

favorite Easter candy becoming a movie, the relationship

between Star Wars Episode VII and the Expanded

Universe, your answers to our question of which

Star Wars character you would most want to see

in Episode VII, and the first ever segment of

MWR Weekly's movie games. All that and more coming

up on MWR Weekly. That's right, it's time for

MWare Weekly and as always, I am Optimus Solo

and with me is Nathan, hello. Hello. And Matt,

hello. Hello. And as we usually do, we will start

this week off by looking at the past weekend's

box office results and I guess we have what I

would consider something of a surprise. And that

is the fact that we were wrong. Captain America

would not reign supreme all the way through until

The Amazing Spider -Man 2 came out because it

has been dethroned this past weekend by the other

woman. It's an upset. By almost nine million,

the other woman has replaced Captain America

as number one at the box office. Yeah. Who knew?

What is it? A romantic comedy? I guess. The power

of Cameron Diaz? I don't know. That's what she

does, is the romantic comedy. She knocks out

superheroes. So yeah, the other woman came in

at 24 -7, 24 ,700 ,000 in its first week. Captain

America was number two at 16 mil. Heaven is for

real staying strong at number three with almost

14 million and then Rio 2 and Paul Walker's brick

mansions running up the top five brick mansions

just under 10 million So I guess the surprise

would be at the top the rest not as big of a

surprise might be notable to say that transcendence

is Not helping Johnny Depp's recent track record

at the box office. It made four million this

week It's in its second week, and it's at 18

and a half million total gross on a 100 million

budget. Man. That is no good. I'm surprised they

spent that much money on that movie. Well, they

were blowing everything up in the trailer. Yeah,

and stuff was floating and stuff. There was a

lot of visual effects. So Transcendent's not

good. Add it to the flop list for the year. Haunted

House 2 dropped 63%. Weird timing for when that

was released. Not huge surprises outside of Captain

America not being a number one. Anything that

you guys saw that you wanted to bring up? Matt,

I think you had you mentioned something about

a milestone for a movie. Oh, I noticed that Frozen

has finally passed 400 million. Yay, Frozen.

So just just past the 400 million mark. Um, so

that's a feat in and of itself and it's 23rd

week, I guess, according to this theater. I don't

know how accurate that number is. Um, it's been

about a half a year by now. Yeah. And we also

had, um, I thought we had, oh, Rio two is just

getting close to breaking a hundred million.

Probably do that next week. Um, if not about

10 days from now and, uh, Noah has a chance of

breaking a hundred million in the next couple

weeks probably combined Do you think it'll have

a chance of beating its budget? Not in the theater,

yeah Not just domestic gross for theater tickets

But once you do the international and once you

add like DVD sales and whatnot, it'll be fine

It won't be a failure so to speak I think we

can officially say we're not going to get the

raid since it's in less than 100 theaters now.

Yeah. That's upsetting. I wanted to see people

punch people, which is all that trailer was.

And I don't even see, uh, I don't see Dom Hemingway's

down to 119 theaters. Ugh. And that's trickling

in money, so I guess we were not going to see

that either. But if you look at the yearly we

have some new movers and shakers as far as 2014

goes number one still reigning supreme is the

Lego movie at 252 million Captain America is

in second with 224 then divergent 139 quite a

drop there ride along 134 still clinging to a

top five spot and then mr. Peabody and Sherman

at 108 and 300 rise and empire at 105 so those

are your your top films for the year so far and

Captain America might Pro well it probably will

catch Lego movie once all is said and done although

spider -man will give it a little bit of a Task

trying to do that in the next week or so But

yeah Lego movie Captain America standalone at

the top It's funny, Mr. P. White and Sherman

still hasn't met its budget, right? Yeah, and

it's like it's in the top five. That's interesting.

Yeah, still early in the year, so a lot of these

films will be displaced. I would say that Captain

America and Lego Movie will be there for the

long haul, but we're most likely to see Mr. P.

White and Sherman and 300 and Ride Along and

all that fall out of the top five here soon as

we get into the summer season. Anything else

about the box office from you guys? Nope. All

right. Well then let's get right into the headlines

This week we have a few different things here

to talk about starting with a lot of Steven Spielberg

stuff coming out lately I don't know how he can

be directing and Writing or not writing but directing

like a thousand films at the same time, but apparently

that's what he's getting Getting into here. I

supposed to be directing the BFG. Are you guys

familiar with that? Probably my top three favorite

books growing up. Excellent. I'm super looking

forward to this movie and I will probably buy

a copy and reread it. I never read this book.

The book from Raoul Dahl and it's all about Steven

Spielberg apparently helming a live action adaptation.

Is this something that you like the book, Matt?

Is this something that you're interested in as

far as the movie goes? Oh, absolutely. It I think

it's it's one of those books that's like it'd

make a really good visual and I just I can't

wait to see what they do with it It's got all

kinds of silly things that like you had to see

like we might not have the technology Back when

I was a kid to do it that we can now like because

like they've got drinks that are like carbonated

drinks, but the bubbles go down and I don't know.

There's like all kinds of weird fruits and stuff.

Like I think there's a black and white striped

fruit I mean, it's just it's gonna be fun And

for those of you that don't know the BFG stands

for Big Friendly Giant and the screenwriting

for this is apparently being done by the same

person who did the screenwriting for ET So yeah,

I mean it sounds like from what you're saying

it could be it could be interesting stuff reminds

me of Willy Wonka Same guy right? Yeah, same

guy obviously from the same writer and then just

the interesting names of items and Words that

they're using and whatnot. I don't remember the

book at all I don't know how I missed it, but

I'll take your word for it that it sounds like

it could be something interestingly done especially

with a ET screenwriter and Steven Spielberg involved

I think it's a lot like Jack and the Bane stock

I mean where it's like someone goes into a world

of giants and they're all really mean but they

run into the one nice giant I think it's the

know the Giants world that he's the one friendly

giant and Yeah, I mean I haven't read it since

like third grade or something, but it's that's

one of the two books I remember from my childhood

What was the other one by the great horned spoon?

I would love to see that although. I think I

remember it way wrong and that's another one

I want to buy Because it's like the things that

happen in that book can't possibly have happened

in that book. Maybe they did All right, I'm not

familiar with either of those I've lived a sheltered

life. It's funny. I ran into an old notebook

and in that same year I read both of those because

I read both of those in the same year. I also

read Tuck Everlasting and I was like that was

a movie and I remember that movie even though

I haven't seen it. I do not remember that book

at all. There's a little bit of my history trivia

for you. Apparently the next headline, the team

that always seems to be together, Orchsey and

Kurtzman, Apparently they're each kind of drifting

apart, not drifting apart like there's some type

of feud or anything like that, but kind of pursuing

individual projects. And the latest headline

about them is that Roberto Orti is hoping to

replace J .J. Abrams as Star Trek 3 director.

Apparently he is wanting to do that. And from

what the article says is that Abrams Is kind

of in his is supporting him as a possibility

for that So it's kind of up to the studio now

if they're gonna choose that or not. I have mixed

feelings on Kurtzman and I don't know if it's

Orsi or Orsi or however you say it but I I like

some of the stuff they do and then I completely

despise some of the stuff they do so I'm on the

fence with this and him possibly being involved

with Star Trek 3 but Like I said since I like

some of the stuff I'll have to wait and see kind

of what direction he goes with it. But uh What

was your guys's overall opinions on the the have

you supposed seen the reboots of the Star Trek

films? Yeah, we've all seen them yeah Do you

like what's been going on with those two movies

or not? Matt you go first. Um, okay, so I have

to admit the whole alternate reality time travel

thing is so incredibly like the original series.

Generally I think they've done a really good

job with the casting and I have loved both those

movies. There are things that I like. I think

the second one did a way better job of encapsulating

how the characters were in the original story

more than the first one did. And I think that

so far they've been getting better, so hopefully

it keeps getting better. I know a lot of people

especially some of the people in the network

had a major problem with the second Star Trek

film And I actually quite enjoyed it So we kind

of have mixed opinions on that one Nate. What

do you think? I? Don't know. I don't have too

much of an opinion on the Star Trek movies. They're

they're good I'm not a huge Star Trek fan I've

seen a lot of Star Trek, but I wouldn't call

myself a Trekkie by any search of the imagination

but Yeah, I don't know they're just good movies.

They're not great movies in my opinion. They're

just well done action movies and I guess That's

kind of all they are just like action films like

modern -day action films. So I think people That

really don't like them don't like them because

they're not smarter than modern -day action films

I get that Yeah There's less of the whole, you

know, like Star Trek is always like a morality

question, and there's a lot less of that. Yeah,

definitely. That's true. But maybe they'll venture

into that area as they go forward. Maybe they

were just using these first ones to kind of really

establish the cast, but we'll have to wait and

see. Or if it's going to feel like kind of the

same. film again or not. Big news from the Star

Wars universe and that was the announcement that

they knew Star Wars films will not draw on the

Expanded Universe and that technically the way

that they're going to handle the Expanded Universe

is that that's not canon, that it's not something

that they have to look at when they're making

new films. They basically came out with saying

that the first six films, the Clone Wars series

and the new series that's starting this year,

Star Wars Rebels, that that is the core part

of the canon and that they're going to basically

treat the Expanded Universe as kind of like legends

or, you know, legends of the universe that can

exist but are not necessarily like... Based on

factual events type thing Matt obviously you're

a huge Star Wars fan So how do you feel about

how they're trying to get around or how they're

trying to treat the Expanded Universe? Well,

it's not a big surprise You know it's always

been like the invisible barrier between everything

and the movies. The fact that they're saying,

hey, we're going to keep everything in print.

We're going to just give it a new print thing

on the cover. And we even will come out with

more books in the old expanded universe. It is

like, and you're kind of getting like. It's way

better than what DC did with the new 52 where

they're like hey All those stories you've read

never happened and we're coming out with all

new stories Using all the same names and we're

not even gonna you know get any you're gonna

get more of the old stories Which is you know

the biggest problem I have with the new 52 So

it's like you can still read the stories you

can still get Mara Jade even if she doesn't exist

ever again in the movies And things like that

and so I'm interested to see where it goes I

think it was a I think it was a The choice I

wouldn't have made, had I been given it, I would

have definitely drawn heavily on things like

Timothy Zan, who's really invented the EU. But,

yeah, I don't know. It says they will use elements

from the Expanded Universe. At least in the new

cartoon series, it doesn't necessarily say anything

about the movies going forward, but it says Star

Wars Rebels, the animated series, will... draw

some elements that they like from the Expanding

Universe, but I guess it's their way of saying

to try to give the writers of these movies and

cartoon series going forward as much freedom

as possible without having to try to check all

of the information from all the Expanding Universe

to make sure they're staying in line. I guess

it's better than them just going on and then

not recognizing it and then just being like,

wait a second, that contradicts this. So at least

they're acknowledging it I guess in a way But

like you said it's kind of hard to tell until

we see what direction they're going with both

the animated series and the new movies Nate are

you familiar at all with the expanded universe?

Yeah, I've read some of the comics mostly I've

never read any expanded universe books, but I

don't know Were you hoping that expanding universe

would be a part of the movies and cartoon series

going forward? Are you fine with the way they're

doing it? No, I have I have like no attachment

to Star Wars gotcha like they could do whatever

they want as long as it's a cool movie I'll watch

it and it'll be cool. I believe you're losing

major geek credit with your Comments on both

Star Trek and Star Wars so far. That's fine I

mean, you know this the space wars you can have

them and I'll watch them and I'll enjoy them

But I don't hold them in like such high regard

where they're like sacred or anything like that

I don't really do that with anything like any

sort of like geek like Shut up. I love back to

the future. Um, but I would love to see a back

to the future like remake or like More stories

or anything Definitely. Fair enough. What seems

to be a weekly topic, the Steve Jobs film coming

out. They keep just cycling through different

directors and different stars and the latest

news to hit this last week was that Danny Boyle

is possibly in discussions to direct the new

film and now instead of Christian Bale we will

be moving on to the idea of possibly Leonardo

DiCaprio playing Steve Jobs. Thoughts Matt? Are

you tired of Steve Jobs rumors? Yeah! No, you

can't be. It's funny, if you were to go to my

script, it's all clicked on links except for

Steve Jobs rumors. I was just like, nope. That

was listening heaven on this one. I think he's

probably a better choice than Johnny Knoxville

or the other person that we talked about doing.

I started with Johnny Knoxville and he's still

a bad Steve Jobs though. Nate, do we even care

at this point? Nope. Alright. But we'll keep

you informed as that goes on. News about the

X -Men. Obviously we have a big X -Men film coming

out this year and apparently Patrick Stewart

just did an interview that is, I guess, getting

diehard people to try to read into it probably

more than they should be. Basically the... The

questions were posed about the possibility of

more Patrick Stewart in future X -Men films in

which he did not necessarily shoot that down

and said that he would expect to be involved

in some type of future X -Men project. Made one

quote in particular about that's the good things

about science fiction and superhero and fantasy

is that you're never totally dead. Which caused

some people to try to think, is he just giving

spoilers out about the new film? Is that written

reference to previous X -Men films? What is he

talking about? He said a little birdie told him

that he'd be involved in an X -Men project in

the future, which who knows what former way that

could be. Any thoughts on this article, Matt?

Yeah, I mean Patrick Stewart is great. Everything

he's in I love. You know, he's getting old. So

he can't he can't do he's getting older than

that Wolverine dude, so he should probably be

you know I Don't know he sees I'm gonna watch

it if he's in it. I'm gonna watch it He's he's

literally one of my favorite actors in the world

He's the flippin Picard. Yeah, I mean Jean -Luc

Picard. It's hard to beat that character in general

and obviously he was Genius choice for professor

Xavier. I don't know who else totally They could

have possibly got to do that and nobody in the

future will ever be able to do that without being

compared to him So yeah get him in as many roles

as you can in that character and do what you

will and I will be in the front row watching

Nate It's weird to think that they're gonna still

be making x -men movies after Patrick Stewart

is gone Now I got a downer This is not good.

Welcome to the depression cast. That's nothing.

Did you hear the time he threw David Duchovny

underneath the bus? He threw David Duchovny underneath

a bus? I'm at you on this podcast. But I would

watch that movie where Patrick Stewart throws

David Duchovny under a bus. Like, speed four.

Didn't they make a speed for did they make speed

for no they wasn't not have they there was a

speed where they were on a boat Oh Fine Everyone

listening is also rushing to IMDB right now Like

there's been 15 speeds you retards All of the

made for TV and straight to DVD they've used

every form of transportation possible We're talking

this about this a little bit off the air and

I mentioned it in the opening but the idea of

a peeps movie mat You are going to me automatically

I need to talk more. I love my voice You need

a better mic first, you know, I do I should try

I'm gonna try it out uh peeps movie the the article

says it's gonna be people making peeps dioramas

i've heard of this this thing i've never done

it i've seen it on you know like a disney channel

thing or whatever like uh you know like watching

a sitcom it's like you gotta help your son with

the peeps thing um i think um i don't know what

you're talking about it's gonna be a bunch of

dioramas and then like he's get he get like a

peep like falls out of his diorama into someone

else's And it's like maybe he's in a night diorama

and he falls into like an underwater one and

then like he's got a journey through the presidential

one and then Martin Luther King one and then

like a Fantastic Four one. It's going to be like

the Lego movie with peeps. And I haven't seen

the Lego movie, but I have heard it's good, so

I'm going to like the peep movie. Dude, I don't

know, man. The peep movie? Dude, peeps are delicious.

The problem with the peep movie already is that

I have no idea what you're talking about with

the peep diorama No, I've never seen that before

You don't need to but no like the The the only

thing I know about is that you put peeps in the

microwave and they blow up and it's awesome But

I mean that that's like the famous pee thing

to do They should make a movie about exploding

peeps. Like a jerk kid. It'd be a lot like Toy

Story. Actually, they can do that. That's part

of the plot, where it's like, one diorama heats

the peeps up, and it's like, see how peeps expand?

Like a science diorama, and one of the peeps

has science glasses and a little lab coat made

out of sugar. And it's like, when we heat the

peeps up, see how they expand. And he's like,

oh no, I'm in the wrong diorama. He's got to

run. Like, I could totally write a peeps movie.

I could eat a peep. I'd be better. I'd be more

fun than writing something Definitely. That's

what that's that's why I don't get anything done

It's like I could do this thing or I could eat

Yeah That's why are you doing pizza quest right?

Yeah, it's like it's like marrying the two weird.

We are totally disrupting this podcast. I'm sorry

Kevin Is Kevin still there? It's okay I Want

to know what will be after peeps if peeps is

successful then what then what do we get after

that? Skittles movie M &M movie. Oh the Reese's

remember like a Buttercup movie. I love a peanut

butter cup and then they'll have the mini cups

screw it screw it We'll just do a whole like

freaking candy factory movie with all of the

popular candies involved Can we get Mark Summers

from Double Dare? Hopefully. Or Unwrapped, since

that's the one that's relevant to this. And for

some reason, I want the Steffhoff Marshmallow

Man to be involved. It sounds like a, uh, like

a Marketer's Dream movie. Yes. Like, although

none of them, there'll probably be some company

that doesn't agree to be in it with this other

company because they're competitors. And I don't

know. Anyway Well, no, that's what that's when

you make a A fake version of them and then make

fun of them because they weren't in the movie,

right? You stupid whatever make up a name for

Skittles Next headline I love the headline for

this because it seems weird to me I don't forget

Jim now Barbie is getting her own movie franchise.

Don't forget Jim ever. Well, not only don't forget

Jim and How can we... I'm forgetting GEM like

that. We've just started getting rumors about

that. Like it's too early to forget about GEM.

But Barbie is getting her own movie franchise.

Doesn't Barbie already have a movie franchise?

She's had like 25 direct -to -DVD movies. That's

exactly what I was thinking. Apparently they're

gonna just be like no those are just a little

direct DVD fake movies. We're talking about real

movies here I guess that's what they're saying

that Barbie is gonna have a movie franchise a

legit movie franchise with like actual movies

in theaters To try to boost their toy sales in

an effort to rewind the clock to 1985. That's

not cool, man. That's saying that all the work

that Barbie's put in with all those other movies

hasn't amounted to anything, and that's not true.

Right. I'm just going off of what this article

is saying, that they're saying their toys are

down and that's why they want to revitalize the

franchise through movies. I mean, there's already

movies. The thing is is that like we've already

got little mermaid movies and live -action mermaid

movie is gonna be different So what if it's a

live -action Barbie movie? Yeah, then there are

they gonna get anybody to play that part because

that human can't exist CG it's like we need a

real -life Barbie, but don't recognize any of

the dimensions of the actual Barbie Maybe that

could be the transition though, like they've

got a lot of flack over the last year, the last

few years, especially with the Lammily or whatever,

the guy who made the life like Barbie. Maybe

they do a live -action movie and then they may

come out with a movie line of characters and

then just make those into more and more common.

I mean, if the movie line sells well, then they're

gonna have a reason to make more, right? And

that's what they're doing, is to boost their

toy sales anyway. They do have a writer that

apparently knows a little bit about how to cater

stuff towards the female audience. Jenny Bix,

who has credits for Rio 2, Sex and the City,

The Big C, and What a Girl Wants, is the one

involved in this. I don't know how many films

they're trying to put out, but it says franchise,

so I'm assuming they have plans for multiple

films, and they'll have to avoid doing anything

they did in the previous 25 direct -to -DVD films.

Or maybe they can bring some of those to the

big screen, the better ideas. Yeah. I don't know,

I would be more excited for Jem. Yep. Yeah, although

is Jem the next one on the list? No, but we will

get there very soon. There will be more Jem coming

up, folks. And Matt will give his thoughts that

he's having right now. um the last headline that

we have um which is i guess transitioning into

our remakes and sequels this could be either

but uh fox has secured the rights to the classic

comic book of flash gordon yay so fox is planning

a remake of flash gordon now that it has the

rights i assume that that will be a live -action

film that they'll be doing better be but uh I

don't know. It just says that they snatched up

the rights to it, so they guess they can do whatever

they want to do with it. For those of you that

don't know, Flash Gordon is the hero who fights

against Ming the Merciless. There was an adaptation

back in 1980, but we'll see what's happening

here. Nate, you're a Flash Gordon fan? I'm a

Flash Gordon 1980 movie fan. Have you seen that,

Kevin? Don't think so. Oh my gosh, we gotta watch

that. Find it as we speak, folks. No, like, I'm

literally on Amazon and I am gonna buy it. Like,

Nate and I watched the Flash Gordon movie a couple

of times. The funny thing is that when I met

my current long -standing girlfriend, we watched

Flash Gordon the first day we met. It is an amazing

movie. Does Dolph Lundgren play Flash Gordon?

No. No. For some reason I always think of P -Man

and Flash Gordon as very similar people. I don't

know why. Who plays Flash Gordon? I don't know.

He is a physical specimen, though. More importantly,

who plays Ming the Merciless, because that dude's

cool. He is a cool guy, too. They do a great

job with that movie. I do remember the cartoon.

But I did not see the first adaptation in 1980,

so I'll have to watch that in preparation to

get excited about the new... film that could

be coming from fox and jay jones was flash gordon

and nobody knows who that is yeah that's gordon

and the last star fighter and baltar galactic

and do not a blu -ray for less than the just

the soundtrack to that movie which was done entirely

by queen the entire soundtrack it was amazing

So who are they going to get to do the sound

for the next film? The article actually suggested

the darkness, who I know is also split up and

not as good as Queen. So that might not be a

great choice. They're a good band, but they're

no Queen. You can't really compare anyone to

Queen nowadays. There's no one working currently

that's as good as Queen. Is there anybody that's

ever been working this comparable to Queen? Rush.

I mean, I want to compare Queen and Rush, but

they're equally good. Well, Rush is a little

bit better. I can't stay on topic. We're having

trouble staying on topics. We apologize. Oh,

no. Going to the next remake reboot, we already

talked about the possibility of Goonies 2. Well,

that is picking up steam. Apparently, that is

something that's going to happen. Steven Spielberg

has already come up with the idea for the film.

He's the storyline, et cetera. He's all about

it. Richard Donner is all set to return as the

director. Yet to be seen if any of the actors

will return But it seems like they're pushing

full force ahead to try to get this done and

Nathan since you just saw goonies Can this can

this or should this be redone? Oh, yeah, I'd

love to see a goonies, too I'd love to see where

they take it. I was mentioning while like just

after we finished it How I would like to see

a goonies prequel where it's just the pirates

from the goonies treasure Just follow the one

-eyed Willie story and do that. Yeah And that

would be awesome. And then we could still have

the cast back and they could play pirates. That

would be weird. You watched the Goonies without

me? Have you seen the Goonies, Matt? No, we're

going to watch it together. We were trying to,

we were going down, Joel was over and we were

trying to go down the list to find films that

we weren't saving for you because we knew you

were wanting to watch a few of them so we eliminated

them and we forgot that you wanted to see Goonies

but we'll watch it again. It's not a problem.

It's a nice, it's a really short, well I mean

it's pretty short and it's nice and zippy and

fun. I'd totally watch it again. And we did not

watch the grand ones yet, so. Or grand ones too.

Anyway. Don't be sad, Matt. You do need to watch

it because we need to try to pick out all the

different references they make a ton of I was

not aware of this I've seen this movie probably

like five or six times and for some reason I

was never aware of all the different references

they make to other stuff that either Spielberg

or Richard Donner has done and it's just scattered

throughout the film and so I will watch it again

and try to pick out all those As far as two more

reboots remakes go fantastic for There's an article

coming out this week about the tone and it says

The tone will be somewhere between spider -man

and chronicle. It'll be less goofy than its predecessors

I would think that that would be good according

to Simon Kimberg, it's gonna be much more grounded

gritty realistic than the last couple movies

Saying that the other ones were goofy I was waiting

for that word gritty Every time every time they

make a new movie. They're like it's gonna be

realistic and gritty, and it just it turns me

off so fast hmm Well, I think in okay. I think

in a lot of instances that would be I would agree

with you like if we were talking about certain

superheroes and you're like oh they're just going

to try to go the same route as you know what

has happened with the dark knight and this that

and the other and they're going to try to be

gritty and not fun etc with fantastic four i

don't know that's what it would take for me to

probably watch a fantastic four film because

The reason I haven't been able to get into any

of the other ones was because they were too goofy

for me. I don't see how you can make a story

about all these scientists that go into space

and get zapped by radiation and one guy turns

into a big old rock monster. I don't know. I

feel like it should be a little goofy. At least

goofy. Maybe like Guardians of the Galaxy goofy.

Yeah, I would be fine with that as a tone. I

don't know. Maybe it's just because I haven't

ever been able to get into any of the other Fantastic

Four films. What do you think? What direction

should Fantastic Four take, Matt? Well, I think

it needs to have its goofy and silly moments.

I've got a folder on my computer that are over

50 images of just silly, ridiculous, unbelievable

things that have happened in Fantastic Four comics,

going all the way back to the first or second

issue to an issue a year or two old. So, like...

Like, they are still silly. They're still goofy.

And if you just go pure gritty and grim, it's

not gonna do it for me. But whatever. Maybe they

can snap Dr. Doom's neck at the end of it. Oh,

man. He went there, folks. And I guess this is

something we could have maybe predicted or expected

because we've had a plethora of... Biblical films

being made and being somewhat successful with

Son of God and Noah and possibly Exodus later

on apparently now there are Stuff in the works

to remake Ben her Paramount cool Paramount and

MGM co -producing Ben her That just seems like

one of the ones that maybe should be left alone

Probably I don't know. I have no uh, I have no

Want to see a been her or like been like a new

been her. I haven't seen the old one either.

So I don't know You haven't seen the old one

No Do you have it? I don't know if I have it

or not I don't know man. Have you seen the old

one? I don't think I have It's one of those things

where it's like I want to but I never I just

never Yeah, I just think if I don't know like

most of the films that are like on like the AFI

top 100 films of all time list I think should

not be remade Most of them that's just a hundred

movies that you're not you're gonna There's about

a hundred films at least that should just be

like these are these are films. You don't remake

You don't remake gone with the wind. You don't

remake Casablanca. Oh, that'd be hilarious with

the wind. I don't know like People like along

movies. You don't remake Citizen Kane. You don't

remake you know Space Odyssey. There's just some

of the stuff you just Yeah, I agree with you

on most of those what you just said, so I don't

know we'll let people go ahead Citizen Kane would

be Ridiculous to see remade like it was just

that is so pointless lose most of the effects

of the film, but maybe other people are clamoring

for Ben Hur, so if you are, let us know why.

As far as casting, there has been some news this

week as far as some casting in both voice roles

as well as some comic book roles and a whole

bunch of gem casting, which we'll get into here,

starting though with the, and I guess I have

been in the dark because I've been avoiding a

lot of the Batman, Superman, Rumors since it's

so far off, but apparently cyborg is going to

appear In either that movie or in some form of

this Justice League type thing direction that

they're going and He will be played by an individual

named Ray Fisher who is a Broadway star I don't

know much about him. But what about just the

idea of cyborg being involved in in the film

Nathan I don't know About I don't know. I like

cyborg as a character, but um I'm glad to hear

that they went with a Broadway actor for him.

I don't know I always feel like those are the

real acting professionals the people on Broadway

like I Feel like it brings some sort of professionalism

to the role that I hope I want to be impressed

by it already so I tend to gravitate a little

more towards actors that have had at least some

experience or do some theater work in between

movie roles or prior to their movie career. It's

a good basis for what they're doing. So I can

see where you're going with that. What about

the character of Cyborg being involved? I guess

the idea here is that he'll be involved slightly

in this forthcoming Batman Superman sequel, and

then more so if they get to that assembled movie

and Justice League movie. Matt, do you think

Cyborg is a good choice to have involved? No.

um uh i don't know so i like cyborg as a character

he's fun he's interesting he's been done many

different ways and they've all been interesting

but um there's been a big push um especially

i don't know three four years before the new

52 happened they started pushing they gave him

his own book and then pushed him and put him

into the justice league and now he's like a like

he might even be a founding member of the justice

league in the current universe which i don't

know it's silly it's uh i guess traditionally

dc's doesn't have very many big named black superheroes.

And rather than going with black lightning, they

went with cyborg. I like cyborg in the Teen Titans.

I think cyborg could work in the Doom Patrol.

Cyborg is not just sleek material. Also, when

my friend told me - Jeez, dude. What? That's

like harsh words for cyborg. Yeah, no he can

suck a cyber D I don't I don't I like him. I

like cyborg. I think he's a great leader of the

Teen Titans I think he's a good member of the

Doom Patrol, and I think he's a good fourth -tier

Justice League member Call him in sometimes after

elongated man and plastic man have gone down.

Oh Aquaman doesn't ever turn your call. Maybe

give cyborg a call not not tier one He doesn't

belong there. And they're just gonna amp him

up and give him super unbelievable powers. Like,

yeah, he can teleport and he can shoot a sonic

ray and he can shoot a laser beam. And it's like,

well, why don't we just have just a cyborg and

we don't need a superman or a batman? The cyborg's

got it with his infinite powers. I don't know.

I'm just getting angry now. When one of my friends

told me they casted cyborg, they're like, they

cast someone for cyborg. And I was like, oh man,

I just forgot cyborg existed. Did they get Terry

Crews? Because he could do a perfect cyborg.

Like I like I want him to be Luke Cage, I think

it'd be even better a cyber I think that's the

superhero role made for that guy They don't like

the Teen Titans animated show though. Not like

the comic books like super fun and so yeah super

fun super silly super loud Oh, yeah In the ongoing

battle between who's gonna do the jungle book

the best I guess I we've talked about Before

John Farrow's Disney adaptation of the Jungle

Book, and we had mentioned that Idris Elba has

been cast to be the voice of Shere Khan. In this

film, that's going to be a hybrid of live action

and CGI. Well, apparently two more voice roles

have been rumored to be lined up here, and that

would be Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Ka.

And the Ka the snake. on Lapita Nyong 'o for

a character named Araksha, the mother wolf who

looks after Mowgli. I guess the interesting part

of this would be a female doing the voice of

Ka, but maybe that's been done before, but maybe

I'm just thinking of the Disney film where it

was a male. Not that that's a big deal here,

but some big -name stars that they're putting

towards this live -action CGI jungle book Which

makes it seem a little bit more serious than

the last time they did a live -action jungle

book type of film And Scarlett Johansson proved

that she can do some kick -ass voice work in

her so I'm all for her being involved in more

more voice work You guys did not see her yet,

so no pick it up. I'll wash it We're gonna fix

that. And then in other voice news, Lou Frigno

to voice Hulk in Avengers Age of Ultron. The

subtitle there, he's roaring back into action.

Don't know if he'll just be doing the ground

shaking roars or if he'll actually have lines,

but apparently he will be involved in Avengers

Age of Ultron. To me, I guess that's fine. Makes

no huge difference to me though. I like it. I

mean, it's a nod to the past and he did it in

the Edward Norton one too, I think. Yeah. Didn't

we talk about Lou Ferrigno? Oh, I talked about

Lou Ferrigno because there was a guy that looked

like Lou Ferrigno in Gladiator and then he died.

Oh, yeah. Slightly. I think he died. I could

be wrong. Yeah, he did. We were talking earlier,

Matt, you were supposed to hold your thought

for Jem and the holograms. Apparently that movie

has been cast I thought they were all doing this

like whole YouTube thing or whatever where people

submit their own auditions and then they're just

gonna pick these random people and then also

it's like Hey, the gem movies been cast and it's

like all people that have been done and a lot

of stuff It's like get your hopes up. We're gonna

cast Nickelodeon and Disney stars Yeah I don't

know all these people, but there will be a link

in the post and you can see who's been cast for

a bunch of stuff But yeah, it's a lot of Disney

Channel Nickelodeon type youngsters that I'm

too old to know who any of these people are They're

also making it not like we said where it should

be a neo 80s like no explanation for why pop

like is like the 80s and Everything is silly

and fun. It's like they're YouTube characters

They're the Justin Bieber's of that universe.

That sucks. We'll see. We'll see. Let's hold

our hopes and let's get a trailer. Yeah. Yeah.

But I will say that the photographs that they

put out to me, I know, Nate, you didn't necessarily

like them as much, but I thought they caught

what I was somewhat expecting of the characters

to look like. Maybe not as colorful as you would

like them, but... I thought it at least. Were

those the photos where you saw like a bit of

hair and a bit of like mouth? Yeah. And then

like a jewelry or something? Yeah. Yeah. And

then a black or like a plain black background.

Yeah. Yeah. No, I don't know. There wasn't enough

in it to like go like, oh, that's going to look

fun. Yeah, it wasn't enough, though, where I

was like, oh, that's awful. So yeah It hit this

weird spot where it's like that's something to

look at I have no reaction to it Um and then

also some more casting for Peter Pan seems like

we get a new character every couple weeks here

We obviously already had Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard

Garrett Headland as Hook, we had talked about

when Rooney Mara was cast as Tiger Lily, and

Levy Miller as Peter, and now apparently Amanda

Seyfried has signed on to star in the film, most

likely playing Wendy's mother, Mary. So I guess,

you know, they keep on going with that, and we'll

see which Peter Pan version is better. Because

I believe there's a couple different versions

of Peter Pan that'll be hitting at the same time

too, but This one definitely seems to have a

lot of the big names. So Amanda Seyfried, I'm

not opposed to her being involved I'm not like

huge on her one way or the other so sure she

can play a Character in this film Go for it And

for those who don't know Garrett Headland Starring

as hook he formerly appeared in Tron Legacy recognize

him from that. And apparently there's going to

be a Marilyn Monroe film coming out and it's

been rumored that Jessica Chastain will be playing

Marilyn Monroe. I don't know. Any thoughts on

Marilyn Monroe at all? She's pretty. No. Surprised

it hasn't hasn't been a Marilyn Monroe big budget

film of sorts being produced by Brad Pitt. She's

been huge in the last four or five years, right?

Yeah It's surprising it's taking this long to

get a movie. I think they're gonna call the film

blonde Yeah, after the documentary the Biography

book. Yeah, so I know she seems like she could

play the part I don't have a huge interest in

Marilyn Monroe though. So yeah me either Getting

into some trailer talk not as many as last week

since we were trying to cover two weeks last

week, but we do have some films We had trailers

come out for love punch us another segment for

sin city Sex tape as above so below jezebel.

Let's be cops. Trust me boyhood a long way down

Did any of those kids skipped one? Oh, yeah,

supermensch the legend of shep gordon, which

is more of a documentary Yeah So Nathan, which

ones caught your eye on that group? Actually

Super Minch. That one looks like an interesting

documentary. I'm interested in watching it. But

Sin City definitely I'm interested in. I really

like the first one. So I want to see more and

see if they do it even better this time. I don't

know. If possible. What about you, Matt? The

superman just looked like the most interesting.

I don't know. Here's the thing. It's like as

beloved so below as beloved so below as above

so below Jess about they're like they're horror

movies I've said my piece on horror movies As

above so below sounded really interesting at

first it's like, you know, it's like there's

all these underground catacombs and in Paris

and I'm like, yeah, I've heard about those those

sound interesting like now they hold a secret

that they're the gateway to hell it's like Wait,

let's not break out of the mold real quick here,

guys. Matt, I'm telling you, Matt, we need to

watch some horror movies alone. I'll keep you,

like, hugged and safe. I don't have anything

against horror movies. Like, I don't like being

scared of, like, jump cuts. But ultimately, like,

I could watch a horror movie and rate it and

be like, yeah, it was good, it was bad, it did

what it wanted to, it didn't. Like, my problem

is that I get... Horrifying nightmares like I

want to have horrifying nightmares. What that's

just awesome I even had a nightmare in forever.

I miss them. I still remember nightmares I had

15 years ago like Like I just like woke up and

then like oh, you know I'm talking like I'm a

teenager and I'm like sitting outside my parents

bedroom because I know if I wake them up They're

gonna be pissed at me because I'm a teenager,

but I can't go back to bed because that was terrifying

dude like the the worst like nightmares I ever

have is like I'm late to work. I have terrible

dreams. You need I will give you some of my imagination

while I'm asleep because I do not need it. I

swear. So Boyhood looks like an interesting trailer.

Yeah. Apparently they shot that movie over 12

years and just let the actors age naturally.

Yeah. Which I think is an amazing and interesting

idea. But at the same time it's like I don't

know usually when you have a character growing

up in a story like you might get like one or

two snippets like here's my six, here's my 14,

now he's an adult and that usually works. Can

you touch every age like you know six, eight,

ten, twelve, can you touch all those long enough

for each aging to be memorable and important

or is it just gonna be like watch this kid grow

up and it's you know. Like it's like, well, we

could have done that with three actors instead

of like taking this one kid's whole growing up

experience. Like you think it might be a shallow

special effect. Yeah, man, I would hope not.

I mean, if you have you have that long to film

the film, the thing you would think you'd be

coming over that script and rewriting stuff and

really analyzing it. I mean, you don't want to

waste that amount of. of an investment of time.

I hope it's great. I'll be interested. I might

go and see it if it comes to us if we don't get

any. But I am worried at the same time. It also

says it might have an interesting soundtrack,

which is understandable since they're kind of

spanning some time. throughout that, you know,

throughout that 12 years and trying to get some

songs that directly attached to that. It's from

Richard Linklater, who I guess the film I most

know him for is Dazed and Confused, which is

a great film. He did the... This guy is kind

of known as kind of... doing some interesting

stuff with with cinema. I know Dan would speak

a lot about his other series of films that culminated

this past year with you had before sunrise, which

he did in 1995. And then he did before sunset

in 2004. And then before midnight in 2013, which

also I guess not surprisingly, stars Ethan Hawke

in that series of films and he is also going

to be in Boyhood. So he does some interesting

stuff with films because all of those three films

have some interesting... relationship between

them. I haven't seen any of them. I wanted to

see them, so I might have to add that to the

list to see all the before series. But he's done

some interesting stuff. He also did School of

Rock, which is, I guess, a little bit of a departure

from some of that other stuff, A Scanner Darkly.

So I don't know. I'm very interested to see how

this all works out, but it's very intriguing.

The tasks they took and he definitely is not

afraid to invest a lot of time in a lot of years

in certain projects that he's involved with so

We'll have to see how that comes out. But like

you said Matt, I hope it's not a disappointment

Any other trailers that either you guys saw that

you wanted to bring up? No, I'm I don't know

a lot of them I'm not really too interested in

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of huge trailers

at the moment. We're all gearing up for the summer

blockbuster season, which is the trailers that

have all been out for a while now. So we're just

going to get to actually seeing big movies here.

Clark Gregg guy who plays Agent Colson in the

Marvel movie universe. He's getting a movie where

he's not Colson. I mean, he seems to be everywhere

nowadays. I like him. He's making the rounds.

Alright, well that does it for the new segment

of the show today and when we come back we'll

talk a little bit about some films we've watched

over the week and then like I said in the opening

we're gonna have our first ever Mware Weekly

movie games and I'm gonna put Matt and Nate both

on the spot to see what kind of movie knowledge

as far as stars go that we'll have. So they'll

be thinking about the all -time top 100 stars

at the domestic box office and we'll see how

many they can come up with and I'll explain how

that's gonna happen right after. for the break.

All right, thanks for sticking with us and it

is time for the main attraction this week and

we will start with a brief discussion of some

of the films that we've seen over the past week.

What have we seen in the last week? Well, Nate

and I just saw Goonies, but we won't talk too

much about it because we're gonna watch it again

with Matt. So then we'll talk more in depth when

we do that. What did we see? We saw American

Hustle together, the three of us. And that was

the first time that you guys had each seen American

Hustle. So Nate, what were your thoughts on that

film from 2013? I finished the movie and I was

kind of like I don't I don't know about this

movie like it didn't have that very satisfying

ending that I expected out of like a con man

thriller type movie but the more I think about

it the more I just realized that it was a movie

about like people acting like like the the actors

are really just the reason why you watch that

movie and and I Just I like it more now that

I've thought about it for a little bit What about

you Matt? What was your initial reaction from

seeing that film? initial reaction um Well, I

mean, I just I was impressed like just everything

they did really impressed me And I you know I

want to just sit and think about like how they

do and you know it's I liked it I enjoyed it

a lot and I had a friend From work who had told

me that it was a really bad He said it was a

turd gift wrapped in nice paper, so you don't

notice that it's a turd. And I immediately texted

him that it was wrong. Yeah, the acting in that

film is phenomenal. Christian Bale and Amy Adams

were awesome. Bradley Cooper was crazy and good.

A lot of people obviously liked Jennifer. Why

do I always why do I always want to call her

or somebody else? It's Jennifer Lawrence. I always

want to say Jennifer Connelly and it's just a

completely different person But anyways, yeah,

the acting was phenomenal in that film. What

else did you guys see this week? Well, I don't

know if you already forgot but we watched blue

velvet Oh, yes, Nate and I watched both blue

velvet and another film will get to in a second

time blue velvet It was something I had really

never heard of I somehow missed that, and it

had some critical acclaim to it back when it

came out. Definitely a weird style, an interesting

film. I enjoyed the first half better than the

second half. I found the first half very amusing,

humorous, even if it wasn't trying to be, or

maybe it was trying to be. I don't know. Somewhere

along the halfway point, it got kind of weird

for me. But I'm still glad I saw it. The acting

in some parts of it is absolutely terrible. But

then the acting in other parts is really good.

So it's kind of a mixed bag. Matt, have you seen

Blue Velvet? No, I hadn't even heard of it until

this weekend. OK. Definitely an interesting film.

Nate, you like it, obviously, quite a bit. Yeah,

I don't know. I really get drawn to movies that

are just like completely not. What you would

expect. I don't know. I have this weird like

affinity for a movie that just like it doesn't

it doesn't go by the norms of Hollywood or anything

like that. It's just something that only like

one man could make from the craziness of his

own head. That would be David Lynch. Right. Cisco

and Ebert had differing opinions on that film.

One of them really liked it and one of them thought

it was a travesty and a terrible thing to subject

your actors to go through and he had all kinds

of different problems for it. Definitely a polarizing

film I guess when it comes to it as far as you

either are gonna really appreciate it and really

like it or you're just gonna think it's utter

crap. But saying that though, I guess I kind

of fall in the middle because I can see parts

of why people like it But I can also understand

why people wouldn't like it But the jury's still

out I gotta do some more thinking on that one

and then we follow that up with another Interesting

film and that would be Tommy Based on the who

album Similar it's a rock opera. I Don't know.

I guess the only other rock hoppers I know is

Pink Floyd's the wall if you want to call that

a rock opera But this one again, I liked how

they were they were traveling, you know following

Tommy as a boy and all his problems and figuring

out and how his mom and stepdad were gonna try

to cure him etc and I was following it and I

liked it for a while and then like Once he is

quote -unquote cured. I believe I was missing

the the drugs needed to appreciate the rest of

that film. I don't think you need to be on drugs

to appreciate that film. You don't need to be

on drugs to appreciate that film. Apparently,

I feel like the rest of the world might need

drugs to appreciate that film or might need drugs

to make that film. One of the two, there's drugs

involved somewhere. Right. But a lot of people

love that film and it also had some critical

acclaim. What was her name that was uh playing

the mom was nominated for an Oscar, I believe

I don't know the mom. Yeah, the mom whoever plays

the mom And Margaret something. I don't know.

Oh, yeah, I think you're absolutely right. Excellent

What else did we see this week Nate? Well, Matt

and I saw the three musketeers from 2011 Go ahead

and talk about that one. Oh we can It wasn't

until I saw this movie that I realized that Orlando

Bloom and Justin Timberlake are the same person.

They're not. They are twins. They are not. They

are more of the same vat and only one of them

got sweet, sweet musical talent. Orlando Bloom,

probably. I don't even know. Like that movie

was it was a different take. It had Milo Jovovich.

of Resident Evil and all of those. Mila J. O

-M -J. The pretty one. No, I didn't have the

pretty one. It starts off like very normal Three

Musketeers and then all of a sudden there's like

an airship and then like it's got all these like

silly crazy weapons and then there's like a thousand

airships. It just gets bonkers Yeah, I wish it

was more bonkers though, yeah, it's like it's

like we went bonkers in the last minute of the

movie Like go go go for broker don't go at all

man Yeah, I don't think that film made it to

the top of anybody's list for films that came

out that year I I wouldn't Jumped to the gun

and be like that's a terrible movie or anything.

It was fun Fun scenes. Yeah fun scenes but again

like it's that sort of like Screenwriting 101

sort of like storytelling. That's so predictable

that it was like oh, here's the part where this

person double crosses this person and then like

here's the third act where there's gonna be a

big spectacle fight scene and then and then this

will happen and then she fell off the thing but

she's not dead probably you know it no yeah it

was it was one of the most predictable movies

i've ever seen like it just even seemed to rely

on the predictability of like you know that that's

what happened like And it's weird though because

it's like all the famous people were the villains

like I get it because it's a Because I had like

Justin Timberlake Miller Jojo and Christoph Waltz

No, I'd had the kid from Percy Jackson is not

a famous kid. He's the kid from Percy Jackson

Lightning and no one cares Percy Jackson's a

terrible movie. I need to see it No. It's not.

I don't think you do. OK. That guy's in Noah

as a pig or something? What? He plays Ham in

Noah. Yeah, I forgot about that. Dude, there

are pigs in the boat, I imagine. Yeah. I've lost

all track of what we're talking about. Just kidding.

What else did anybody see? Are we missing anything?

I feel like I am. I do, too. I don't know. I

saw, I guess I saw two movies this last week.

That's why I gotta, I gotta say, I gotta write

them down. I gotta start writing these down.

Yeah. I see too many movies. I've seen a lot

of movies. I wish I could say either of those

sentences. Sorry, Matt. Man. Nothing in theaters

though. Nothing worth going to in theaters. Spider

-Man next week, right? Spider -Man. I bought,

I bought like eight movies this week for no reason.

Oh, that can be mentioned. We were talking about

the Asylum who makes their, I don't know, did

you tell Kevin about this? Asylum keeps making

their movies that are like, hey, this looks like

it's gonna be a blockbuster. Rush out a movie

in two weeks that's gonna capitalize on that.

RoboCop 1, Android comp. I found it at a used

DVD shop for like three bucks. I bought it. Nice.

I am so excited. I cannot even tell you. Succeed.

Like I nearly punched Nate like I was so happy.

He showed me it like dude. Oh my gosh Android

cop and I was like, oh, yeah cool And I didn't

like understand how happy he was for a while.

Oh my god. I'm so excited Oh, you really wanted

that one. Okay, I really wanted that one Meanwhile,

I bought like boogie nights and one flew over

the cuckoo's nest He bought a bunch of good movies

and then I bought the three musketeers and Android

cop And you be the judge of who got better You

be the judge of who got better I Can't I feel

like I'm missing a film that I saw but uh We

must the show must go on because I cannot remember

what it is through it so anyways wasn't that

good It must have been that good, so we're gonna

do something. We've never done before and we're

totally doing it It's kind of spontaneously Matt

and Nate did not really know about this before

a few hours ago Nate probably didn't know about

it until a few minutes ago Actually a good idea,

because then we can't cheat. Yeah, there's no

cheating involved here. And what we're doing,

we're going to call it NY Weekly Movie Games.

And what we're doing this time is we're looking

at, I found an article this week that, I've seen

similar articles in the past, and I'm sure a

lot of movie geeks out there have seen similar

articles. So they might know some of the names

to expect here. But I think it's a kind of a

cool little list. And what it is, is it's the

all -time top 100 stars at the domestic box office.

Now. This a couple kind of qualifications number

one this chart is not adjusted for inflation

So the figures represent total amount of domestic

revenue generated by all the movies a star has

appeared in over their lifetime and That oh,

I know one hold on and that includes all roles

including major acting roles, leading roles,

minor supporting roles, voice roles, cameos,

any type of film that someone appeared in. They

total every film in their entire lifetime and

all the domestic money that has come in from

those films and then they have ranked them in

a top 100 stars of the domestic box office list.

How this is going to work is we're not going

to look at all 100 because that would take a

long time. What we're gonna do is we're gonna

try to see how many of the top 25 You each can

come up with we're gonna alternate with guesses

from each of you You're each gonna get ten guesses

All right, you're each gonna get ten guesses

We'll start with one person go back and forth

and we're gonna see how many of your guests are

actual people that show up in the top 25 on this

list And so Nate, I need you to pick a number

one through ten. Seven. And Matt? Eight. Matt

got it. The number was eight. No, dang it. Damn

it. It's always eight. Anytime I ever ask that

question, the number's eight. Funny thing is,

I have such a terrible memory, I'm not going

to remember that next time. So that means that

Matt is going to be able to go first with his

first guess out of 10 here. And remember, we're

looking at the most money if you total all the

movies they've ever appeared in, the most money

that's been made by a single actor. And it includes

all different types of roles, including voice

roles, cameos, major and supporting roles. So

I'm just stalling so that Matt can have a few

seconds to think. And Matt, who would you expect

to see in the top 25 of that list? Nick cage

Nicholas cage He is in the top 100 I believe

but he is not in the top 25 He is at Hold on.

I had him here a second ago. He is Stop it computer

It's probably cuz I'm looking for Nicholas and

it's probably just listed as Nick That's a terrible

idea who would ever call him Nick cage. They

don't know Control F control. Yeah, he's on the

list, but he is not in the top 25 And I guess

I'll give you some hints as we as we go through

if we're not getting a lot But that gives it

up to Nathan for his first guess remember. It's

got to be somebody that appears in the top 25

What's your first guess Nate? Okay, this this

guy has to be on the top 25. He's been in over

400 either TV shows or movies He's done voice

acting He's been like various animals on every

movie that's ever been out has to be Frank Walker

Frank Walker actually Comes in at number two

Yes, so Frank Walker is number two. He had been

number one for years He had been number one.

He just got passed by somebody here within the

last year. He has been in 106 movies and his

total box office is six point six billion dollars

from the films that he has been in. He's been

in almost he's been in probably 90 percent of

the Disney films. as well as just a lot of other

stuff. Obviously a phenomenal voice actor and

so I'm not made fun of by too many people. Nicholas

Cage was at number 61. He is in 2 .5 billion

dollars worth of movies. So Nate is leading after

round one. We'll go back to Matt for his second

guess. Who else do you think might be in the

top 25? I'm so bad at this. I'm gonna go with

the Sam Jackson Sam a million movies Jackson

Sam Jackson has been in 110 films Which is good

enough with Captain America this past month to

pass Frank Welker for the number one spot Holy

crap. Are you serious? Right now Wow right now

Frank Welker is at six point six zero four billion

and Samuel L Jackson is at six point six two

two 22 billion so Captain America I believe has

and I've gotten a few of these Avenger movies

here in the last year have helped him a year

or two three years have helped him pass Frank

Welker who was reigning supreme at number one

for a long time so that is Our top two, you guys

are on track here. We've already knocked out

two of them. And we got the two easiest ones

because it is a drop after them a bit because

number three, we'd said both of those were in

6 .6 billion. Number three is down to 4 .5 billion.

So there's nobody even close to these two gentlemen.

So that makes it back to Nate's turn here. Who

else might be in the top 25, Nate? I'm going

to say I'm going to stick with the Avengers and

go Robert Downey Jr. Robert Downey Jr. has been

in 57 films, enough for $3 .2 billion worth of

domestic sales, which is good enough on this

list to put him at 22. 22. So he is in the top

25. So that is another one for Nate. He's perfect

so far. Not a not a terrible idea to go back

to the Avengers franchise. There are some franchises

out there that will definitely help a actor if

they've been involved with a lot of their films.

So going back to Matt, what do you think? Hello?

Matt? No, I'm thinking. I'm bad at this. It's

all right. I got number one. That's worth something.

I got the easiest one. Oh, I'm going to go with

Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford. Why would you think

Harrison Ford? Don't know cuz he he did Star

Wars which was not adjusted for inflation Also

did the the Indiana Jones franchise yeah, I mean

he's been in a lot of movies and a lot of them

have done well and That is good enough to put

him at spot number eight Whoa list he has been

in according to this 44 films, which is good

for three point nine billion dollars Which is

good enough to make him in the top ten at number

eight So so far only one missed Nate. Can you

keep the streak going? I'm I'm gonna go with

With Harry Potter not the guy who played Harry

Potter, but the guy that played Snape, what was

his name Alan Rickman? I did not expect you guys

to get that one necessarily Alan Rickman comes

in at number 18 He's been in 35 films, which

is good enough for almost three and a half billion

Dollars obviously the Harry Potter franchise

is is where he's getting most of his traction

A couple other things that he was in he was in

Alice in Wonderland He was in Sweeney Todd, almost

all of the Harry Potter, I think he was in all

the Harry Potter films, I could be wrong. And

then back in the day - He should have been. And

back in the day, 1991, he was in Robin Hood,

Prince of Thieves, which made 165 million, so

that didn't hurt either. So yes, Alan Rickman

is good at the number 18th spot, which means

Nate is still leading three to two, but Matt

can tie it up here with his next guess. It's

gonna be four to two really soon. Are there more

voice actors in the top? There are a few more

voice actors, I will tell you that much, but

they're gonna be harder to come up with. Well

then I'm gonna go crazy and go with Billy West.

Billy West Why would you think that Billy West

has been a lot of good good cartoons and Saw

a handful of movies, but he is not going to appear

anywhere in the top 100 The other voice actors

are gonna be much harder to come up with You're

probably more likely to have luck with just going

with actors, you know from big franchises So

that one is not on there Nate. What is your fourth

guess? Tom Hanks has been in 49 films, which

gross domestic is $4 .4 billion. That's good

enough for number five on the list. Number five,

Tom Hanks. Going back to Matt for your fifth

guess. Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp. 54 films, enough

for 3 .2 billion, which puts him one spot ahead

of Robert Downey Jr. at number 21. You guys are

better at this than you thought you were going

to be. Nate, you haven't missed one yet. The

pressure's on. I'm going to go with... Who's

been in everything? Willem Dafoe! Willem Dafoe

has been in 66 films, $2 .6 billion, which puts

him on this list at number 47. He's on it. He's

on it. 47. So that is not going to quite cut

it to make it into our top 25. So that means

it's a chance for Matt to catch up a little bit.

Who else might be in our top 25? How about the

Orlando Bloomin' Onion? The Orlando Bloomin'

Onion. Obviously in the Pirates of the Caribbean

films, among other things, 22 films. Lord of

the Rings. Yeah, Lord of the Rings. 22 films.

Oh, I forgot about Lord of the Rings. $2 .6 billion.

Good enough for two spots worse than Willem Dafoe.

He comes in at number 49. That's about how well

I expected it. 49. He was in the top 50. He was

in the top 50. Two spots worse than Nate. OK.

OK. OK. OK. My turn. And I forgot his name Dang

it Gandalf, what's his name? Someone help me

Ian McKellen. Why can't I remember Ian McKellen?

God. That's a good one. That's a good one Ian

McKellen has been in 36 films Which is good enough

for 2 .7 billion and good enough on this list

to come in at number 40 You're still getting

people on the list. I don't think Lord of the

Rings is a franchise that was big enough, apparently.

Infinite money. Matt, try a different franchise.

Back to you. Oh, I'm going to try a different

franchise. No, that's a bad choice. I'm full

of bad choices, guys. What's that guy? He danced

a lot. He was Vincent Vega. He was what? Vincent

Vega. Vincent Vega. John Travolta. John Travolta.

Going with John freaking Travolta. He's in the

top 100 because I'm bad. I think he would be.

Yes, he is in the top 100. He is at $2 .7 billion,

which puts him three spots lower than Ian McKellen.

He's at number 43. Okay, I got one. Yes, sir.

Your seventh guess is who? Leonardo DiCaprio

That is a good guess as well Probably Leonardo

DiCaprio is he's been in a lot of big -name movies,

but he hasn't been in a lot of big -name franchises

True, so he is actually not going to be on the

list at all. I don't think I just want to say

one thing He's at number 96 Whatever. I just

want to say one thing We haven't guessed a single

female and I feel bad for doing that I would

I would not guess any females That sucks Hollywood

cast ladies they're awesome seriously They're

way better than you're gonna kick yourself on

a couple of these and I don't want to give too

many hints out so No, just keep going. Keep going.

All right. We're down to our final three guesses

for each of you. This is bad. Patrick Stewart.

Patrick Stewart. He was in a couple of franchises.

He was in X -Men franchises, some Star Trek stuff.

Not enough films in total, though, to help boost

his numbers up. So he is actually not anywhere

in the top 100. I'm gonna go the flip side of

Tom Hanks and go Tim Allen Allen Come on he's

a stand -up comedian he did like two movies He's

done the Toy Story films. That's enough. Oh,

okay. I was like I was like trying to think like

wait home improvement and jingle all the way

Yeah. Was he in Jingle All the Way? He's a character

in Jingle All the Way. I thought that was an

Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Oh, maybe it is,

yeah. Tim Allen. You're thinking of the Santa

Claus. Go on, Kevin. Tim Allen is a great guest

because of the Toy Story films, which have helped

a lot of people, but he is not in the top 100.

Whatever, dude. I ain't even mad. I'm trying

to be mad here. Bring us back for your final

two guesses. Matt, what's your second - I got

a franchise guy. Robin Williams of the Mrs. Doubtfire

franchise. Mrs. Doubtfire, that's where you should

have gone. Yes, Robin Williams. Been in 66 films.

3 .4 billion dollars, which is good enough for

19th. on the list. Robin Williams comes in at

number 19 if you're wanting to know why. He was

in Night at the Museum. He was in both Night

at the Museums. He was in Happy Feet, Robots.

These are all films that made over $100 million.

Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, Jumanji. Mrs.

Doubtfire made over $200 million. Aladdin did

not hurt. Hook good morning. So he is number

19 on the list Nate You are now tied with Matt

at four apiece, and you have two guesses left

Sean Connery Sean Connery Obviously he was in

the Indiana Jones films as well as the Bond films

which must not have made enough money domestically

to put him on this list oh He's not even on the

list I'm trying to see here if he's anywhere

on the list at all. Nope. I'm not seeing him.

Sorry, my computer was freezing there for a second.

No, oddly enough, he's not on the list at all.

Dang. Brutal. So that means, Matt, with your

last guess, you could take the lead. Somebody

that's in the top 25. I could, but I'm not gonna.

I'm gonna throw it away. We give it to a guy

who I think deserves to be there. I'm gonna say

Steve Buscemi. Steve Buscemi was an 80 film so

far enough for 2 .7 billion which puts him one

spot better than John Travolta which would be

a number 42. I like the guys in the 40s I guess.

You are all about the guys in the 40s. We've

actually guessed quite a few. We've got Ian McKellen,

Steve Buscemi, John Travolta all and Willem Dafoe

all in Orlando Bloom all in the 40s. So if we

were looking for that spot you guys would have

been money. Nate you need this one to win here.

What's your last guess? Don't need anything from

you Are we tied you said I Still can't think

of anything damn it guys what? She's number one

of the prettiest list no, she's like half pretty

He's trying to throw you off. He's trying to

distract you. That's actually true. They're way

prettier ladies. Not that that's what we should

judge women by, but they're good acting capabilities,

in which she is also an amazing actress. Cheers.

This isn't going to go in the pot. No, I'm just

kidding. Billy Dee Williams, he was in Star Wars.

Yeah, he's been in a lot of other crap. He has

not actually been in a lot of other crap. He

was in Colt 45 commercials. Let's do... Let's

do Dennis Not Hopper not Dennis Hopper the other

Dennis. It's Dennis Miller. No Dennis the menace

No, Dennis Hopper a dentist to society Dennis

Hopper Dennis Hopper is your final guess and

That is not going to win you the game here. Whatever.

He is not in the top 100. So you're tied at four

to four First person that can come up with any

name That's in the top 50 that we haven't guessed

we can't just end on a tie that would be Just

just whoever shouts out the first name in the

top 50. Well, I just shot shouts it out We gotta

we gotta still take turns. All right, Brandon

Lee. No Matt take turns so Matt's up Shia LaBeouf,

that's a good guess not in the top 50 Dennis

Miller No, also not in the top. No, Dennis is

I don't believe her in the top 50. Dang it What

about the guy who played the Emperor in all of

the Star Wars? No What about you and McGregor

you already said him You said Ian McKellen not

in the top 50 James Earl Jones James Earl Jones

is in the top 50s at number 37. That will end

the game with Matt in sudden death coming out

with a come from behind victory. But for those

that were curious of the top 25 number 25 was

one of the two females that you could have guessed.

And that would be Elizabeth Banks. who was in

the whole Spider -Man franchise as well as the

Hunger Game franchise as well as the Lego movie.

Oh, oh, wait, wait, wait, stop. There was one

I wanted to say that I've totally forgotten Jeff

Goldblum, but keep going. Okay. Number 24 would

have been Matt Damon. Yeah. He's been in a whole

lot of films. Oh, Mark Wahlberg. No. Ben Affleck.

No. Number 23 would have been Owen Wilson. Really?

Yeah. Okay. Owen Wilson was in what, both Night

at the Museum films, which made a whole lot of

money. You think a billion as far as everyone

being in them, being in this top list. He was

also in, oh gosh, what was it? Cars, both Cars

films. Meet the parents and meet the Fokker's

and Armageddon Owen Wilson was so number 22 you

got was Robert Downey Jr Obviously the Iron Man

films number 21 was Johnny Depp number 20 was

actually I did not expect you guys to get this

one 20 would be Robbie Coltrane Who all the Coltrane

was Hagrid in Harry Potter? No, that's cheating

then he was also in brave Van Helsing, The World

Is Not Enough, and Goldeneye from the Bond films.

So that would have been Robbie Coltrane at number

20. Number 19, like you said, was Robin Williams.

Number 18, Alan Rickman. Number 17 may have slipped

both of your guys' minds, and that would be none

other than Bruce Willis. Oh, yeah, that guy.

Weird. that guy number 16 the fun one here 16

would be warwick davis for those of you who don't

know he was wicked in star wars return of the

jedi he was willow from willow he was in uh at

Star Wars Episode 1 Phantom Menace and he was

in all of the Harry Potter films. So that is

definitely enough to get him up on the list at

number 16. Number 15, maybe 10 years ago you

would have guessed him more likely than now,

but number 15 would be Tom Cruise. Of course!

He's in everything. Well, he's not, but he's

in a lot. Number 14, probably due to the Transformers

franchise would be Hugo Weaving. He's in the

Transformers movies? Yes, he provided the voice

of Megatron, I believe, in at least one of the

films. The original Transformers, he was Megatron,

as well as Dark of the Moon. He was also in Happy

Feet, the Hobbit film, and he was... Lord of

the Rings. Captain America. And the first one

and Lord of the Rings and the Matrix films. So

he's so good a lot of stuff What number was that

here number 14 number 13 Nate You should I should

have given you a hint of just naming one of my

favorite actors number 13 would be Liam Neeson

Not hurt by the Star Wars films, obviously Um,

number 12 is probably the hardest one to come

up with on the entire list. Number 12 is, um,

the other female and that is Mickey McGowan.

You've probably never heard of her. She is a

voice actor with not a lot of major voice roles.

She is always listed in the additional voices

though. She was in Little Mermaid, Beauty and

the Beast, Aladdin, all the Toy Stories, A Bug's

Life, Monsters Inc., Lilo and Stitch, Finding

Nemo, Ice Age, Despicable Me 2, Up. She's been

in just about every animated film, it seems like,

in the history of the world outside of the ones

that Frank Welker has been in that she had not

been in. So that would be kind of your hardest

one to guess there at number 12. Number 11 would

be Eddie Murphy. Probably thanks to Shrek. Number

10, Gary Oldman. Yeah. Gary Oldman was in RoboCop.

He was in a good majority of the Harry Potter

films. He was also in... What was one of the

other ones he did that was big? Batman Begins

the Dark Knight. Dark Knight Rises obviously

did not hurt him. So Gary Oldman comes in at

number 10, number 9, another voice actor. One

of my personal favorite voice actors, a guy by

the name of Jack Angel, who was Astro Train in

the animated Transformers the movie, but he's

also been in Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast,

Aladdin, Toy Story, etc. So all the way up through

Despicable Me 2. So voice acting, the unsung

heroes, sometimes they're in a lot of films that

make a lot of money. Number eight was Harrison

Ford. Number seven, another, the last of the

voice actors, Bob Bergen, who most people probably

know as the voice of Porky Pig. But he's also

been in a ton of Disney films. He was in the

Dr. Seusses and Lorak from The Tangled were his

last two films, but Up, Wally, Tinkerbell, Toy

Story, etc. So Bob Bergen is the last of the

voice actors. Then we go to number six, which

I guess this is not fair, but if you are wanting

to think of you're on the right track with the

Marvel films. And there's one individual that's

been in all of them. Oh Stanley Stanley Six cameos.

She cameos were included. So he has been in 22

films totaling four point two billion dollars

Probably would love to hear that No, he hates

Stan Lee's can yeah Tom Hanks was number five

Might kick yourself for number four and that

would be Morgan Freeman. Oh Morgan Freeman's

been in 69 films for almost four point five billion

dollars number three as I guess I said that his

last voice actor because I forgot him because

I always think of him more as a Kind of behind

-the -scenes guy, but it's John Ratzenberger

Who's been done both acting and voice acting

he was in? All the Superman or he was in Superman

1 and Superman 2 he was in Star Wars Emperor

Empire Strikes Back Um, he was then got into

involved in animation and voice work. So he did

all the toy stories, Wally ready to be up cars,

uh, planes, monsters, university, brave, et cetera.

So a lot of money made in those. And then we

go to our top two, which would be Frank Welker

and Samuel L Jackson, which are some 2 .2 billion

ahead of the rest of the field. So, um, some

interesting people there. Um, If you want to

see the whole list of a hundred you can go to

the website where there will be all kinds of

fun names and Including a lot of those other

if we would have opened it up to the whole 100

Then you could have just started guessing anybody

involved in these franchises because you have

people like Anthony Daniels Who is c3po you got

Frank Oz? the voice of Yoda He's involved in

all the Muppet films, et cetera. You have anybody

that's been in all the Harry Potter films, like

the recurring characters, stuff like that. So

that's a fun little list of people that have

been involved in the most money -making films

over their years and over their career. And we'll

give this first movie games winner award to Matt.

And we will be back with other movie games in

the future. We'll try to do all kinds of different

stuff and see which ones you like best and we'll

kind of make those recurring segments on the

show. Any thoughts, Nate? Yeah. As a conceding

speech? Oh, well, Matt said better things than

I said. So way to go man you said things better.

Yeah, I don't know Wow, man, I feel like that's

a he's he's like upset and burning me, something

he's not upset about, but like, way to passively

aggressively attack me violently on our shared

podcast experience, and hopefully what I would

the second one, you know, as much of a sore loser.

Oh, as far as coming attractions go, for Blu

-ray releases this week, there's nothing. Well,

actually, somehow The Legend of Hercules has

found its way to DVD already. The film may be

the first 2014 film to not be directly released

to DVD, but may as well have been. Also, a classic

tradition combo pack of Sophie's Choice, which

is a classic, but I mean, it's been a few times.

And a combo pack of Space Battleship Yamato.

I wouldn't mind saying that. As far as theater

releases, there's only one. It's the Amazing

Spider -Man 2. Comes out May 1st in 3D and 2D

and IMAX and IMAX 3D and regular standard formats

and all kinds of stuff. So you can have your

choice of whichever way you would like to see

Spider -Man flinging through the air. And I guess

for Nate's sake, hopefully not using cranes in

this version. Other than that, I don't know,

Walk of Shame, Decoding Andy Parker, weird trailers

that we saw, but nothing's going to compete with

The Amazing Spider -Man 2. All right. Going into

the credit conversation last week, we asked you

guys what Former Star Wars character if we could

only pick one more to appear in episode 7, who

would it be? We already know that we're gonna

get the main, you know, Mark Hamill and Carrie

Fisher and Chewbacca and Han Solo. If you can

only pick one other Star Wars character to appear

in episodes 7, who would it be? We got two answers.

What were they, Matt? Boba Fett and Lando. Those

two were mentioned more than a few times. And

there was one other mention. Greedo Jr. Greedo

Jr., which I guess not really in a character

that already existed in the former films, but...

No one said Ahsoka, which I guess I'm kind of

sad and kind of happy. I don't know. I was curious

what to your guys if you had an answer besides

Lando and besides Boba Fett. Nate, did you have

any other person you'd like to see? I want to

see Biggs and Wedge, but didn't they die? Biggs

died, Wedge doesn't. So you can pick Wedge. Wedge

goes on. Wedge goes on. He has a daughter, Seale?

Seale? I don't know. It's S -Y -A -L. Who names

their kid that? Actually, I'm not sure if that

was her. She hid her name because she wanted

to be not in her father's shadow because he's

the greatest non -force -using pilot in the universe.

And so like she takes a name and I can't remember

whether that's her, I think that's her first

name and not her taken name. Matt, what about

you? Any other names that you wanted to throw

in? Well, I mean, I kind of want to see a live

action of Soka. She does not get anywhere over

Boba Fett or Lando, who are like the two coolest

characters in the original trilogy anyway. But

let's just go with Chubaka's son who was in the

Star Wars Holiday Special, but then was sort

of legitimized in the Expanded Universe, first

in comic book form and then in the Legacy Universe

series after Chewbacca's death. Definitely had

some love -hate comments for Boba Fett. Yeah,

there's a lot of people that are like, I don't

get why Boba Fett is cool, which I think is just

like, I mean, really? Really? Like, you can't

be a Star Wars hipster, people. Like, I think

Boba Fett is legitimately cool. He has a cool

name. He has a cool job. He's a bounty hunter.

He's got a cool get up. Yeah, like he looks awesome.

And guess what? When he first appears on screen,

the first time Boba Fett appears on screen. Darth

Vader turns to him and says, no disintegrations.

He's like, hey, you disintegrate too many people.

I need a body so I can prove that it's Han Solo.

You can't tell me that Boba Fett wasn't amazing,

even if he had a lame death. I'm going to put

myself out there to be yelled at and to be I

think people are going to throw mean words in

my general direction. But if I had to pick one

and I can't pick Lando or Boa Fett, I'm gonna

go with any one, just one, I don't want more

than one, but one Ewok. I want one Ewok to appear,

but I want him to be like of some type of prominent,

important position. An Ewok and Jar Jar Binks

team up to save those after getting kidnapped.

I really was worried you were going to say Jar

Jar Binks, and I'm like, you're only doing this

when people will yell at you. No, I don't want

to see Jar Jar Binks. I just want to see an Ewok

in some type of cool position. He doesn't have

to be like a general of any type of sort, but

just like some cool guy that's not like Yoda,

but I don't know, some Ewok character, because

I want them to not be forgotten. Right. I like

the Ewoks. They're teddy bears. I like the Ewok

movie as well. Oh, you were one of the few people

I've ever talked to that's ever heard of the

Ewok movie. I used to watch that all the time.

Dude, it's a great TV movie. I know, but we had

it like on VHS or something. Nice. Recorded off

the TV. Do you know how hard it is to get that

on DVD? It's like 40 bucks used. Man, I'll buy

it. I'm just kidding. I want to own a copy of

it, but I don't want to pay that much. I just

want to watch it again now. Yeah, exactly. The

blonde haired girl with like the curly Q's. Kevin

had a crush. No, not at all. She was like super

young in the film. But no, I don't know. I want

to see New York, but I would probably if I had

to pick, I'd pick Boba Fett or I guess Lando

or something. And then there was a bunch of other

comments on the website about all the different

stuff that we talked about. I don't know if you

guys had any of them that you wanted to bring

up and address. Justin Washington actually had

a really good question of we should list our

favorite movies. We should probably make lists

and bring that back for a later episode. Yeah,

we'll definitely do that. We'll definitely come

up with our favorite movies. I mean, that's a

great way for the people to get to know Nate

and I. Right. We probably should have done it

sooner, and I feel bad for not thinking of it.

We'll do it here in the next week or two. We

won't do it next week, probably, because we'll

be talking about Spider -Man. But the first chance

we have where we're not going to have a big movie,

we'll make that our main attraction segment.

The week after Spider -Man. Yes, when nothing

else comes out. And obviously, there were some

ongoing conversations about different Marvel

stuff that we talked about previously. So if

you want to check those out, you can do that

as well. And did we have a question for this

week? Something that I did not think about because

I was all into our game mode. What did we talk

about this week? Any questions? We talked about

Cyborg making it in the Justice League movie.

Is there any fringe DC characters you're interested

in? Some of it's not Batman, Superman, Wonder

Woman, Green Lantern, or Aquaman, or The Flash?

Remember we're not necessarily talking about

the next film Batman Superman film the sequel

to Man of Steel. We're talking about the eventual

Justice League movie Someday Someday down the

road when they actually do the Justice League

film, which DC character fringe DC character

would you most want to see? All right, that's

a good question. Thanks, as always, for joining
