About this Episode

The hosts discuss the latest box office results, headlined by Noah, and share their thoughts on the film's fantasy-infused interpretation of the biblical story. They also cover recent entertainment news, including rumors surrounding an Indiana Jones reboot, upcoming Disney projects, and the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Finally, the episode shifts to a detailed breakdown and review of Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, analyzing its unique visual style, tight script, and color palette.

Today on MY Weekly we'll be discussing which

comic book character The Rock wants to play,

more Harry Potter movies on the way, a new Indiana

Jones, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie

trailer, movies of biblical proportions, and

a final stop at the Grand Budapest Hotel. All

that and more coming up on MY Weekly. All right,

thanks for joining us again on MYR Weekly. As

always, I'm your host, Optimus Solo, and joining

me is Nathan. Hello. Hello. Adolfo Shabadoo.

Yes. And Fridley Sent, hello. Hello. Just want

to, from now on, refer to you guys as your Twitter

handles, because I like them. Oh, OK. Yeah, yeah,

yeah. That's fine. And that way more people will

get used to hearing them, and then they'll be

like, oh, that's what I search on Twitter. Yeah.

Alright starting off today as we always do we

will look at the box office from the weekend

and We had a few new movies being put out that

we weren't quite sure how they would stack up

to Divergent and Muppets etc But the reigning

king of this last weekend would be Noah Coming

in at 44 million dollars Rounding up the top

five is Divergent which dropped from number one

to number two brought in 26 and a half million

Muppets most wanted dropped one spot down to

11 million mr. Peabody and Sherman nine and a

half and God's not dead at nine million. So those

were top five Movies of the week anybody surprised

that Noah came in at number one No, I totally

said that this is I think we all agreed that

it was gonna be Noah divergent Muppets, right?

Yeah pretty much Um, so not huge surprises there.

Divergent, um, will hit the 100 million mark

next week. It's at 95 as a total gross, which

has now surpassed its budget of 85. So a success

for Divergent. So it kind of broke the curse,

like we said, about the, uh, that genre of young

adult, um, science fiction, whatever you want

to call it. Um, Muppet still has a bit to go

to catch its budget, but, uh, Hopefully it will

get there and some other good showings as far

as new movies and some movies that got a little

bit wider release Grand Budapest Hotel Tripled

the amount of theaters it was in so it got almost

towards the 10 million budget it came in at number

six sabotage in its first week came in at seven

Another new in Caesar Chavez down there at number

twelve And the raid two doesn't really count

because it only played in seven theaters this

weekend So that's not fair to judge that. Frozen,

though, on a sad note, I don't think it's going

to hit 400 million. And it's sad. Not unless

it has some type of re -release in like a future

time period, because it's... About a million

and a half away and that would take it at the

pace. It's doing about 15 more weeks of being

in the theaters So I don't think that's gonna

happen But we did have 300 rise of an empire

just break the 100 million mark So that's a milestone

for that one and mr Peabody and Sherman might

hit the 100 million mark next week at the same

time that divergent does Anything that you guys

saw as far as the box office that surprised you

saddened you made you happy or anything I still

wish Muppets where it was doing better. Yeah,

I'm a little scared that it's not doing well

enough to make that I mean it definitely has

to be its budget for us to have hopes of more

Muppet movies. I would think yeah It might be

a struggle, but I don't know that one might have

a little bit longer shelf life animated films

and kids films usually Stay out for a long time,

so hopefully that'll help it Don't they don't

they factor in like DVD sales as well? Yeah,

and they'll always do kids stuff always does

really well with the DVD sales, so that'll help

So hopefully it's hopefully it's not nothing

really to worry about I just look at that budget

number and kind of hope that it gets a little

bit closer To that it's only been out for a couple

weeks though, so Maybe too early to judge The

biggest drops for the week the biggest losers

maybe if you want to say that Tyler Perry's the

single mom's club drops. Oh, no two and a half

percent Son of God sixty percent and then down

there at three days to kill sixty four percent

drop Other ones were just like the Academy Award

movies that are now kind of phasing out of people's

Minds seasons over nothing really that was a

humongous drop Not much surprise into the box

office this week anything else you guys got What

was that wow format? I didn't know 12 Years a

Slave is still in theaters 24 weeks later. Oh

yeah. It's going to hit half a year here soon.

Yeah, 24 weeks for that and 22 weeks for Dallas

Buyers Club. Long time in the theater there for

those two. And then looking at the yearly one

because it's been a while since we've talked

about that for 2014 your top five so far Lego

movies still reigning supreme at will for a while

Just under the 250 million mark ride -along number

two at a hundred and thirty three million three

hundred rise of Empire next and then divergent

and then Mr. Peabody and Sherman rounds up your

top five for the year so far So we will see how

that changes as we go forward because it's about

to change here real soon as we get into the spring

months and into the early summer because you'll

see a lot of blockbusters come out that will

rattle the yearly rankings a lot. One of them

next week which should immediately be in the

running to compete with those. So anything else

you guys before we move on to the news? Nope.

Alright, let's get into today's movie news, starting

with headlines. I talked about it in the opening,

and we kind of briefly mentioned it I think a

few weeks ago, but The Rock is set on playing

a comic book character, specifically a DC character,

and these were his demands. He said that they

had to find a character that would match these

three things. Can we all say one? I want to say

mine. I want one, too. I'll say the last one.

Go ahead, Nate. Black Adam. Oh, no, I wanted

to do the three demands. Oh, I was thinking,

which character should he play? Black Adam. Yeah.

Which is one of the ones that they are saying

that a lot of people are talking about. But Matt,

what was your demands that you wanted to bring

up? Oh. Was it they he has to be a badass motherfucker

of power That was his third demand verbatim The

first one I find funny Because he says that it

has to be someone that was extremely complex

and has a lot going on That's what the rocks

know for man But it's so weird It's so weird

if he wants to be Superman level of power and

incredibly complex. It's like I Don't know if

there's a lot of characters like that, dude Be

someone that's complex because I've never got

to play one of those characters But obviously

the third one yet being a badass the second one

was one I find interesting though You wanted

to play a character that had never been brought

to life, but that was well known So I assume

those are brought to life in on the movie screen.

Yeah Those are ridiculous. Yeah, it's a hard

thing to do. I mean, there are still people besides

Black Adam and Lobo, which are the two most likely.

Like, he could do Martian Manhunter. He might

be able to even pull that off. Maybe. Yeah. Nate,

you're in favor of Black Adam? Oh, yeah, man.

That would be awesome. There was a time, like,

years ago where they were talking about putting

him as Captain Marvel Shazam, like, for a second.

I can see either of those working. That was like

before Avengers. Huh. What about Lobo, Matt?

Well, here's the thing. Like, uh, 90s Lobo or

current Lobo? Because current Lobo is really

a really skinny, short kind of guy. Like, the

90s Lobo, honestly, should be Brad Garrett. I

mean, he's voiced him in the - the - Oh, yeah.

And he's got the right height, the right build.

He's getting a little older, I get it, but he

could pull it off. You put makeup on him, you

tell him to go to the gym for a few days, he'll

be fine. A little bit of CG, a little Hollywood

movie magic. Yeah, man. Spray on abs. Spray on

abs. Anyone else, Nate, that you think The Rock

could pull off in the DC Universe? That meet

these three demands? No. I don't know, he could

be of... Quite a few probably villains. He could

be Solomon Grundy He could do Solomon. He could

do a cyborg Superman. Oh Yeah That'd be cool

actually Hank Henshaw. I like that so we'll have

to see apparently he's they have writers and

people involved and he's talked to the DC people

so apparently that's not just like Rumor stuff

that's something that he's been trying to do

for years and it seems like they have it narrowed

down to which character So let's wait and see

who that is As far as I just love the idea of

demanding like separate things like I want to

work with you, but This was gotta happen Yeah,

but he's a rock so you can do that Other comic

book headlines apparently some information on

some characters that might appear in the X -Men

apocalypse movie. I know Days of Future Past

has not even hit theaters yet but we're already

talking about the next one because Bryan Singer

has kind of mentioned a couple people and that

would be Gambit and Nightcrawler. His quote is,

I'm considering Gambit and potentially a young

Nightcrawler for Apocalypse. I was going to have

Nightcrawler in Days of Future Past and even

wrote a scene but I felt we were forcing too

many mutants into the story. I respect that.

Yeah, it's good to acknowledge that and that

someone involved actually says well hold on guys

we These are all great ideas that we all you

know, it's probably brainstorming we could do

this with this character We could do that with

that character and then taking a step back and

saying well Let's not just throw every single

person in this movie. Yeah, it's already got

a huge line -up of characters and actors I would

much rather have a tighter script than fan service

Yeah So which one would you think you'd be more

excited to see in Apocalypse Gambit or Nightcrawler?

Definitely Gambit. I always loved Gambit from

the animated series in the 90s. Matt? Well, if

Apocalypse is like the Age of Apocalypse comics,

there's more room for Gambit, because there's

a character that's like an alternate reality

nightcrawler, Blink, who is key to the story.

They couldn't remove her without changing a massive

part of the story, so you don't need to teleport

people, so yeah, Gambit. Alright. Here's one

that's been hinted at for a little while, but

apparently we're not done with the universe.

of Harry Potter. There's a new CEO of Warner,

and I don't know how to say his name, but Kevin

Sujihara will go with that. But apparently he

wants to focus on some franchise stuff, one of

it being the Harry Potter franchise, another

one being the DC universe, and the third being

the Looney Tunes universe, and he wants to kind

of establish those and keep pushing those at

Warner. So we have an article that's coming out

about Harry Potter spinoff of a full trilogy

of movies here, and that is dealing with Fantastic

Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is an original

project by J .K. Rowling. What do you guys think

of first more stuff in the universe of Harry

Potter and a refocus on DC slash Looney Tunes?

You wanna go, Nate? Um, I don't know I I'm not

a huge Harry Potter fan so they can do whatever

they want with that franchise and I really want

to care It sounds like the tone is gonna be more

so just like an adventure film from this article

not with you know, the heavy destiny and the

chosen one and you know some of those mythological

elements that it's more so just kind of Maybe

a fun adventure type film. It says I think it

says it's gonna take place Before Yeah, like

75 years before or something like that. And focus

on Newt Scamander. Probably said that wrong.

You can continue with your thoughts. No! I don't

know. Yeah, no, that sounds actually fun. Like,

I don't know. I like straight -up adventure films.

Those are fun. Just like... Going and doing stuff

and then stuff happens. Yeah Having fun Surprising

that they're gonna do something decent that there

that he's trying to obviously keep the focus

on DC given the fact that you know Marvel's done

so much with with their properties. I didn't

know that there was Gonna be a push for any type

of looney tunes. I Had actually heard something

about that. Didn't they try to get LeBron James

for a possible Space Jam 2 and then he said no

I don't know if that was just pure rumor or if

there was something to do that or not, but that

didn't make the rounds a couple weeks back. I

would love to see more Space Jam. I would love

to see a Space Jam, too, but I want it to be,

I don't know, more down to earth where they just

go back to Michael Jordan and he's like, I can't

keep bailing you out. I'm like 60 now. I taught

you guys how to play. Why don't you guys go and

do it? That would be a cool cameo, at least.

I would love it for him to just be a coach. I

would love that. That would be great. It'd be

great to see them just kind of find the right

path for both DC and Looney Tunes and not the

constant retooling. This idea that never good

happens and I don't know We'll see what they

do with that though. What about the format you

the the Harry Potter stuff? Are you did you watch

the original ones? Are you fans of Harry Potter?

I? Became a fan of the Harry Potter books in

sixth grade I bought them all as they were being

released read them all like you know first week

And I'm a big it needs to be close to the original

thing so by about the third movie I was entirely

turned off by the Harry Potter movies um I don't

even think I saw anyone from for on So like when

they're like, hey new trilogy of Harry Potter

movies I'm kind of like well, I haven't seen

any of them for six years or whatever by nine

years So like it doesn't interest me all that

much. Although I might go and see it because

it's new stuff I just don't know. Let me do we

need Harry Potter movies that don't have books

backing them Yeah, you could just well You could

just call it something else and just have its

own adventure. They're totally trying to capitalize

on the Harry Potter name. Yeah, if they released

it without the Harry Potter name it wouldn't

obviously do as well. It makes sense for the

studio, but I think it sucks. If it's a slow

week, I might consider going. A really slow week.

Another headline. Dealing with the title change

not much to talk about here, but apparently the

the title Exodus is not Something you can have

as a title to your movie. Really? Yeah, apparently

MGM owns that and the article states that they

own it in perpetuity which I Didn't know that

was a sketch Like they just own it forever. You

can never call something Exodus So apparently

the Exodus film starring Christian Bale coming

from Ridley Scott is now going to be titled Exodus

gods and kings So just a note to self I guess

if you if someone was looking forward to that

film You'll have to start searching Exodus gods

and kings not just Exodus and we'll have to see

how that one compares to Noah when all is said

and done seriously I hope I hope more Bible movies

to get made in the vein of Noah I can't wait

to talk about that, but anyway, go on. All right,

Disney stuff. There was a big thing from Disney

talking about all kinds of their plans and whatnot

coming out. Lots of little notes about different

things, but the major stuff that came out and

I guess what they spent their most time and we're

talking about, what was it? Was it some type

of convention that they did here? It wasn't like

a con, but it was like some type of... presentation

where they kind of unveil all their stuff coming

up. And the two things they spent the most time

on was Cinderella and a movie called Inside Out.

For those of you that don't know, Inside Out

is an animated film coming out this year. I believe

it's this year from Disney. And it's kind of

interesting it's it's going to be told from kind

of the setting of inside a girl's brain 11 year

old girl and she has different emotions that

our characters and played by voice cast from

people like Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black

And so I guess it's kind of as she's doing stuff

we get to see inside her head and what the emotions

are doing and saying. So I don't know, I guess

it got a good reaction from the crowd that saw

the little clips from it. And then Cinderella

is a live action kind of following the pattern

here that we've seen Disney do a lot of live

action stuff. This one stars Cate Blanchett as

Lady Tremaine, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy

Godmother, and I guess my original thought was

when they first said that they were going to

be doing this, it sounded like Maleficent was

going to be the first and that they were going

to continue live action films on Disney characters.

And I guess we just all assumed that they were

going to be kind of darker and grittier, I guess.

But the article makes this one sound like quite

the opposite. More like it's going to be kind

of just funny, crazy set. I don't know, it said

it had like a feel of Pride and Prejudice and

a feel of Ever After a Cinderella Story from

1998, but that is going to be... I mean, you

have Helena Bonham Carter in there, so that says

it's going to be somewhat comedic and crazy,

so I don't know what exactly direction they're

trying to do that. I hope they're not just trying

to update something that's already been done

and that they put a little different spin on

it. But those were the two main things that they

talked about, and funny to note that they did

say right off the bat that they would not talk

about Star Wars at all during that thing. But

have you guys read or seen anything about Cinderella

or Inside Out or any of these other Disney news

bits that you wanted to bring up? I hadn't heard

about them that much, but when I did click on

the link and look at it, the emotions from the

Inside Out, like... I love the design on those

and if they get a good toy I'm going to totally

buy them. I wouldn't buy the toys but I would

totally watch that movie. They also put some

little stuff out about Into the Woods, the musical

coming out in December with some character posters

of each of the main stars. Quote quote they're

talking about the Avengers of fairy tales. I

guess big hero 6 They had a little bit out some

screenshots of that 100 foot journey Alexander

in the terrible horrible no good very bad day

And they didn't really say anything about Avengers

age of Ultron So we'll have a link there in the

post though if you want to read up on any of

that stuff and check out some of the Pictures

that have been released on those projects uh...

moving on to uh... some sequel remake talk for

those of you that enjoyed magic mike you're in

luck apparently there will be a magic mike too

i didn't see the first one i can't speak to this

but i didn't realize that on a seven million

dollar budget that that film is a hundred sixty

seven million dollars holy crap that's a pretty

good job i guess that's why it's having a sequel

i'd have a sequel too So yeah, Magic Mike fans

rejoice. Also, this one we will talk about a

little bit. Indiana Jones article coming out

this last week that has a rumor of Indiana Jones

series could reboot with Bradley Cooper in the

lead and could take the James Bond route of having

a new film every two to three years. Matt? Okay,

so I'm interesting because, you know, I'm a super

nerd, grew up with Star Wars and all that. I

didn't see Indiana Jones until I was in my twenties.

Whoa, really? Yeah. Two years, maybe three years

ago now, I saw the first three. My friends are

like, don't watch Crystal Skull, don't watch

Crystal Skull. I've seen it on the TV, and as

an adult who doesn't have that nostalgia, I think

Crystal Skull was exactly what I would have wanted

in the fourth one. I would change a few things,

but I think they kept it in the spirit of the

movies. And I think anyone who gets angry has

just got the nostalgia goggles on and they don't

want Air Support to get older and they need to

get over it. So yeah, knowing all of that, I

think Indiana Jones 5, new Indiana Jones, James

Bond style, bad idea. Don't do it. I mean, I

love Bradley Cooper. I will watch movies with

him in it. I just don't want him to James Bond

my Indiana Jones. Go ahead, Nate. I don't know.

I think it's a good idea. They're gonna do it

anyway. Why not just not acknowledge that Harrison

Ford is 90 now? My thing is this. Certain characters

you can do that with, and to me it's linked to

the fact that they were literary characters first.

So you can do that with a Sherlock Holmes. You

can do that with, like, James Bond. To me, certain

characters can just continuously be recast, and

it's fine. But Indiana Jones is, like... That

was Harrison Ford, and that was... I'm not just

talking about my rose -colored glasses on and

everything, but that was something that he created,

and it became what it was because of him. Whereas,

I don't feel like... Sure, you know Sherlock

Holmes is Sherlock Holmes because of any actor

the Right character is bigger than the actor

there and like James Bond the character is bigger

than any of the individual actors So I think

that's why it works for them. But in this case

Harrison Ford is is bigger than Indiana Jones.

That makes a lot of sense But I'm glad that made

sense because I was afraid that made no sense.

So yeah, definitely that that you totally sold

me on that idea, but But I don't know, you can't

stop Hollywood from doing their remakes. They

will continue to do die -hards until we've all...

Although it's weird. This is still rumor though,

so it's not like they've casted and this is a

thing going into production. They could still

turn back. I could see them doing... There was

a young Indiana Jones television series. I never

watched it. Oh, I have. It's pretty good. Yeah,

so I think if you do something, that's the way

you do it. You've had the Indiana Jones movies,

but you haven't had any of the young Indiana

Jones feature films. So if you're going to reboot

it, why not do it that and give life to someone,

a rising star that would have years to play that

part. I would rather them do that rather than

to act like it's Indiana Jones himself. I'd rather

them take Indiana Jones 5 starring Shia LaBeouf

than do Indiana Jones 5 starring Bradley Cooper

as Indiana Jones. Yeah. Go ahead. I was just

gonna say like I think Matt and I are kind of

weird because I have no nostalgia goggles for

Indiana Jones But I'm the exact opposite where

I'm just like do whatever you want with it. Just

make a good movie and Matt's like don't Don't

don't that's usually the best reaction when someone

when we talk about sequel news or reboot or remake

news is just don't Make a new movie. How about

that make make make Bradley Cooper have an adventure

and I don't know which Which is unfair because

there's some reboots that are really great and

some remakes and sequels that are really great

So I don't want to be like oh, I hate all sequels

and remakes, but when you get news like the like

this next one What's your favorite reboot Kevin

probably Planet of the Apes? Oh Yeah, that's

a good point I mean, that was done right. I'd

have to rack my brain to think of which other

ones, but I definitely like that one. Make sure

you clarify, though, the rise of the Planet of

the Apes. Yes, not. Oh, not the Mark Wahlberg

one or whatever? That would not rank as my favorite

reboot. I was going to say, I don't remember

that movie that much, but it wasn't impressive.

No, not that one. But for every one of those

that's really good and a good remake or reboot,

Then you have something like Scarface being remade.

And that just makes me want to punch babies.

Oh, wait, no, it's not being remade. It's Scarface

2, isn't it? No, it's a remake. It's a Scarface

remake where we are not only remaking the series,

but we're changing everything about it. Like,

instead of Cuban, he's now going to be Mexican.

And I just don't understand. Like, you can't

have a sequel to Scarface, first of all. Well,

no, you could. One's dead! No, it would be great.

It would be about Scarface being a ghost and,

like, messing up people's lives. Like, people

go to snorting, okay, and then they said snort

the ghost, Scarface, and then they tri - No.

No? I didn't know you could make a worse idea.

No, actually, I don't know. I'm gonna be at odds

with Kevin on this one. Because I think, uh...

Think this sounds like a more timely version

of Scarface like Scarface was very of the period

and Having a new about a drug cartel guy from

Mexico making it big and coming to America I

think is a timely update like I don't think it's

a good the best idea Hasn't that movie been done

already though? It probably has and it probably

will be again and it probably do okay. It sounds

like you were describing saving private Juarez

or uh... site thing kind of parents president

that's no i want don't that movie remade with

the good budget and slightly more americanized

because it was a great concept that just fell

flat i guess i don't know i don't i just don't

see the need for a reboot of scarface but uh...

I've seen too many of that genre redone not very

well. So, I don't know. We will see. Maybe Matt

will be right and it will be a decent film to

partake of. Another film that I haven't seen

the first two, I didn't even know that they were

onto number three here, but maybe somebody cares.

Barbershop 3, 10 years later, is going to be

happening. So, we'll take that for what you...

Wow. It's been 10 years since the last barbershop?

I guess. I remember them. I never saw any of

them. The question will be if they can get Kevin

Hart involved or not. Oh, and Ice Cube. Get them

Ice Cube. Wasn't he the main character of the

first tier? Yeah, I don't think Kevin Hart was

in any of the other ones. No, but he's huge right

now and he's hilarious. Oh, okay. You want him

in your comedies, man. Right. Right along did

huge, didn't it? Yes. Yes. well better than people

expected it to. I saw the first barbershop and

it was okay. I think I remember somewhat seeing

the first one. I don't really... I might be getting

confused though. I heard all of them were good

and I think the first two did have some success

in the box office. So it's just weird that it's

ten years later I guess that they're doing that

one. Well they do an Anchorman too. They did

that. That was yeah, that's true. How many years

in between those movies? And since gonna have

a decade Yeah, yeah, definitely a long time for

dumb and dumber if you don't count it. Oh my

god All right enough sequel and remake let's

get into a tiny tiny bit of cast and call stuff

Apparently John Boyega. I don't know if I said

that name, right? I'm terrible at names Apparently

he is a prized possession out there in Hollywood

right now because he is up or being rumored for

two major roles, and it seems like he's only

going to be able to do one of them. He's wanted

for Terminator Genesis, but they're saying that

the casting will all come down to if he is actually

cast in Star Wars Episode VII, which makes sense

to me. If you're an actor, you don't say yes

to anything. If you think there's a chance you

can be in Star Wars. Yeah. And until you know

that you are or are not going to be in Star Wars,

you don't make any other decisions. Like yeah

Star Wars hmm like Terminator 7 and Star Wars

7. I mean that's a no -brainer We have to seven

or it looks like five or six, isn't it? They

stop numbering them so we wouldn't so it wouldn't

be so obvious There's a TV show it got we got

really out there the Terminator Franchising that

good try to try to just Ask how many they're

actually doing final destination tried it at

1 .2 The final yes, we won't tell you what number

we're on and then aren't they doing another final

destination Yeah, they did one after the final.

Yeah, they did the final and then they did another

one But I was gonna I was gonna say if you're

gonna be all well, there's too much Transformers

stuff is There's a lot of Star Wars stuff, too

Yes, there's a lot of Star Wars stuff, but most

of the Star Wars stuff is good stuff. That's

not Christmas special Hey, man, I watch that

every year and I survive It does not break my

spirit entirely Luke looks like Ellen DeGeneres

Yeah, without knowing what role they're considering

him for either these films I can't really comment

on it So good luck to him and hopefully he picks

the right one to be in Apparently, the whole

cast of the Ant -Man film seems to be kind of

taking form here because we've had a lot of different

people, rumored cast, this, that, and the other,

and it seems like all the main people are just

about done here. Obviously you have Michael Douglas

as Hank Pym, you have Evangeline Lilly from Lost

being the daughter of Hank Pym, you got Paul

Rudd being Scott Lang, and now it's saying that

Corey Stoll from House of Cards is also going

to be in there, not sure what the role is yet.

How do you guys think of how this cast is shaping

up, and are you excited or not excited for the

Ant -Man project, Matt? I was a lot more excited

until I read this article. Michael Douglas's

Hank Pym, I think, is a bad choice. I have no

idea where they're setting this in the Ant -Man

eras, because I think if you're doing a Hank

Pym Ant -Man, then you need it to be like 25,

30, which I don't think Michael Douglas can pull

off. And if you're doing the next guy, which

I think actually was Scott Lang, I think he was

the next Ant -Man, then don't. do the next Ant

-Man who is like 25 and a total jackass and is

the best Ant -Man comic I've ever read. Oh god,

Irredeemable Ant -Man? Irredeemable Ant -Man.

It was amazing. So good. Eric O 'Grady, I think,

was the Ant -Man in that? Yeah, he had like a

very Irish name. Anyway, it's a redhead, a pasty

redhead. They should just do that, because I

think that's the type of comic relief character

that I want in the next Avengers. Nate, do you

have a problem with Hank Pym being ancient like

Michael Douglas? No, I don't have too much attachment

to the Ant -Man character. Don't know. I feel

like I feel like I'm just like Hollywood can

do whatever they want. I'm just gonna watch the

good stuff That's my whole like philosophy and

stuff. It's not a bad philosophy Cuz they're

gonna do whatever they want anyway I will not

change a thing. I'm gonna be strong opinion to

the anger and everything Hollywood does And a

Scarface remake, go for it! We'll have to see

what other characters return obviously the whole

we're expecting the whole main family would be

there, but We'll have to wait and see all right

getting into trailers What kind of trailers did

you guys see this week that you wanted to bring

up Nate? We all know you want to bring up Nate

do it We all know that you want Bill Murray to

have a cameo in Edge of Tomorrow I was giving

it a chance for Groundhog Day, I mean Edge of

Tomorrow. We set you up for it, you just... That's

what I do though, I flounder on the mic. Sounds

delicious. What did you think of the Hercules

trailer? Oh, I don't know, it looks fine. I'm

indifferent, but Megan actually had a really

my fiance had a really good point the the Font

they use for Hercules really looks like the Baywatch

logo No, okay, so edge of tomorrow with Tom Cruise

it looks it's it's like Groundhog's Day with

Tom Cruise Tom Cruise science fiction Groundhog

Day go yeah That's exciting and interesting,

I think. I don't know. I think it's got a weird

concept behind it, of like, if he learns things

and builds up his muscles, when he goes back,

he's gonna have the muscle memory and stuff,

but I don't think that's how... I mean, I get

it, you're some sort of mystical Rewind Time

Groundhog Day thing, so the rules don't apply,

but that's not how the rules are. I just am starting

to get confused like I'm starting all the science

fiction movies that Tom Cruise Has done in the

last four or five years are all just blending

together with me now. I Can't keep track. Yeah

He just keeps making like the same I don't know.

I will predict right now that the rock Hercules

will destroy the other Hercules Wait, the rock

was in Hercules. Yeah, he's the one that was

in the trailer for the Hercules. Are you serious?

You didn't get - that was the rock! It didn't

look like the rock! Oh, so he can grow a goatee

and all of a sudden he's mirror mirror rock and

you don't know who he is? That's awesome, we

now know how to put jokes on Nathan. That was

so incredibly the rock! I didn't know who that

was! Okay, fine, whatever. Now I really want

to see it! Oh, really? I like rock, but I think

that the guy who did Conan would be a better

choice. for Hercules. Oh wait, the new Conan.

No, the recent Conan. He was Cal Drogo in Game

of Thrones or whatever. Have you seen the new

Conan? I haven't. I've heard some bad things

and I really want to see it, but I'm afraid.

It was something. I'll let you see it. Maybe

we can watch it next Friday if we're not watching

IP2. I'd like to Google it. But yeah, I like

the effects on the Hercules movie and it looks

effective Yeah, it looks like like like a popcorn

Spectacle action movie. Yeah, I'll go see it

if it's a it's a slow week or fast or week Whatever

the fur the legend of Hercules which already

already came out If you don't know it had a budget

of 70 million and it made 18 It was released

January 10th and My prediction is the rock film

will fare better than that Regardless of what

happens and that was Kellen Kellen Lutz was Hercules

and that one Who was in the Twilight? series

Which is weird Think that would boost to the

ratings like this guy from this movie that was

kind of fantasy in another fantasy movie Didn't

happen that way it didn't work Um, did either

of you see the Jupiter Ascending trailer? I did.

What did you think? I think they should recast

the main character. That is who? I think, yeah,

yeah. I don't like, uh... Mila Kunis? Yeah, Mila

Kunis. I think I have the same feelings about

her as, uh... Well, no. I don't know. Her and

Megan Fox I don't like. I think she's better

than Megan Fox. Oh, definitely. I just don't

like either of them in roles like they're getting.

There are so many better people. I'd like to

see Jennifer Lawrence. Way better casting choice.

Yeah, but she's a little overexposed right now,

I feel. Yeah, probably. I don't know. I think

they needed someone a little more innocent for

the role from what I got from the trailer. Yeah.

I will say it's much better than Megan Fox, but

I can see what you're saying. Nate, did you see

that one? Yeah. Don't know I really don't have

an opinion on that movie I probably won't I have

no interest in that one Originally when when

the trailers first came out for for some of the

2014 films way back when the trailer for there

was an original trailer for jupiter sending which

is a little different than the one we saw this

week um and then there was a trailer for divergent

and at first it looked to be two very similar

type things um obviously i think they've separated

themselves and i assume divergent is going to

be the the better as far as the box office goes

with the two But we'll see, I mean, I did think

it looked like it had some cool visual stuff

going on from a science fiction standpoint. Totally.

The ships and the world and the universe they

were creating looked pretty cool. I'm with you

not just on the casting of Kunis, but also of

the main guy. What was it? Channing Tatum? Yeah,

I think it was. Yeah, I wasn't completely sold

on him in that role either. But there was some

unknown people that looked like they could have

been doing some pretty cool performances. The

main villain I didn't recognize just from a visual

standpoint, but he looked like he had some potential

as far as acting goes. So I don't know, I like

those types of science fiction films just to

see the world they create, regardless of the

acting and the plot sometimes, just to see the

world. But I think that one could be... Trouble

to I don't know we can go see it together and

leave Nate out of it. That's true Cuz like I'm

really really interested in the world. Also.

I want to see how Sean Bean dines in it Oh, yeah,

cuz he always does. I'll probably be working

anyway. Yes Yeah, another one. I wanted to bring

up was night moves. Oh, yeah, kind of under the

radar there But that one look what is that about

that one? I don't really know what Oh, did you

not see the trailer? No, I saw the trailer. Oh!

You should know what's going on in that movie.

It's like Jesse Eisenberg? Yeah, the Facebook

is gonna flood the world or something, I don't

know. No, he's just gonna blow up a dam. Is he?

Because of the environment. I don't think that

that was... I think they were talking about the

dam. I don't know if they were gonna blow it

up or what. Seemed like they did something and

then they were trying to like not let like keep

it under the wraps But then maybe someone's gonna

talk so then maybe they're gonna turn on each

other I don't know It says the trio stars as

radical activists plotting to blow up the Oregon's

green Peter Dam in an act of environmental sabotage

Did you guys recognize Dakota Fanning when you

saw her? No, but I'm glad she's doing things

like I hate it I like when child stars get jobs

after they're not children anymore. Like, we

didn't waste your childhood. Yeah. Yay! Like,

how the star doesn't get into Hollywood, it's

like, wow, we kind of ruined your life. And she

is, like, a real good child. She wasn't just

a child star. She seemed like she had a crap

ton of potential. So it's good to see her still

doing stuff. How about Twister 2? Anybody see

the trailer for that? Hey, Twister 2? Oh, I'm

sorry. Into the Storm. Into the Storm. Oh, OK.

I was going to say, like, no, it's late. That's

the equivalent of, like, Sharknado without the

fun. Oh, no! Yeah, pretty much. Anything else

that you guys saw before we get to the main trailer

that was released this week? Emager has a really

funny name, but it looks terrible. And it's actually

a sequel to The Purge. Urgh, yeah. Purge and

Haunted House. I don't even remember Haunted

House. I remember The Purge. I've seen The Purge.

It's not a good time. I didn't have a good time

with that one. But that little tiny clip for

How to Train Your Dragon is cute. I'm excited

for that one. I thought too, I thought there

was some interesting stuff there with A Night

in Old Mexico. Just because I like Robert Duvall.

Robert De Niro. No, Duvall. He was in that film.

He's like an old guy and he's just like... kicking

ass it looks like, I don't know. It looked interesting.

Whatever. You really like old people kicking

ass. Yeah. You're like, oh man. But not art old.

No. No. Not actual people that think they can

still kick ass. Do you like the, what are the

ones called, the Expendables? Do you like that

movie? I've never seen the Expendables. The first

Expendables was really great. I saw Red. Like,

from just a flat leg, this is action. Yeah. I

thought Google to red should have been called

blue or something. Not red to do. Electric Boogaloo.

I can't prevent myself from saying that, Fred.

Nate, did you see the trailer for Begin Again?

It has your boy CeeLo Green in it. No, I did.

I saw the trailer, and I think I... Stopped watching

halfway through you didn't see the hisiloparts.

I saw Adam Levine and I was like, oh, it's the

voice the show With Keira Knightley, it's the

voice the movie All right. Let's get to the main

one that everyone's been talking about this week

so we can get our opinions out there I was bad

at it. Yeah. You gotta do the lyrics, I mean

otherwise it just doesn't work. Okay fine. Who

wants to start with their opinion on Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer? You should! Alright.

Oh, yeah, okay. Let's see, let's start with the

cons. Megan Fowl. What is she doing in this film?

Creepy ass turtles. Number two, why do, if those

are foot soldiers, why do they have guns? Seriously.

Number three, why is Shredder an old white guy?

Yeah, he's not even like Japanese. It's so weird.

And let's see, number four, why do the turtles

look like oversized football players? They have

lips. They have weird lips. They have creepy

lips. Give them beaks if they're gonna make it

more real. Now the same people that did... A

lot of the visual work for the last Planet of

the Apes movie helped with this film, but I feel

like they were given bad direction. Because I

feel like they do good work, but I feel like

maybe the character designs in this was a little

wanky. I don't know. Actually, no, I kind of

see that. I kind of see, like, because the thing

about a monkey is a monkey is adorable. And so

making a monkey look cool. and look expressive

and stuff is easy. But making a turtle look cool

and expressive and adorable is without going

super cartoony because they're going incredibly

realistic which is just gross looking. You know

what I mean? I don't know. They look gross! It's

hard to say. Oh, pros about this. Pros, pros.

Oh, pros, definitely. I think in some aspects

from the little bit that they were actually in

the trailer, the turtles... had personalities

that seemed alright. Oh, and Splinter being played

by... who was he being played by? The guy from

The Dark Knight that was in the bank and he shot

a shotgun. Yeah. Sorry, I don't understand any

of the cast in this entire film. William Fitchner.

Yeah. The Shredda. The Shredda. He's from Armageddon,

I guess. And not Japanese. He's not Japanese.

I'm gonna come up on that. Oh, also, going back

to the cons, the turtles are like 10 feet tall.

Yeah, they're way tall. Like real ninjas. Yeah,

they're super sneaky. They can hide wherever

they want. I don't know. Although, to its credit,

I guess, the turtles never were sneaky in the

cartoons. But they were also, like, four feet

tall. Yeah. Watching this trailer, like, if you

took all of the turtle moments out, like, if

you just literally took all mentions of the turtles

and the actual turtles out of the trailer, to

me, I felt like I was watching a trailer to the

new Transformers film. Oh, yeah. Well, it has

that, like, Bae... I mean, I'm not just saying

because Bae's in there, like, I'm not just saying

that because I know they're both... Produced

slash made by Michael Bay, but it just like it's

let's do this thing where stuff's gonna blow

up and there's gonna be action and then we're

gonna have an army come in or the American troops

or something patriotic Where there were how many

billowing flags were in this trailer? I forgot

to count Actually, no, I don't think there was

a single one. I might be wrong on that. I got

to rewatch it but flags there are flags We're

there definitely in in the latin the new transformers

movie with With Mark Wahlberg there were like

four or five shots of flags just billowing in

the wind Why is he obsessed with the with some

type of militaristic force battling the cartoons

from the 80s? I don't I think um I Think he loves

the military like not even he just loves guns.

I think Like I don't know is that easy Explosions

guns and anything else that can cause destruction

So that we can hide the fact that we're not actually

gonna develop a story about these characters

that everybody knows from back in the day I Don't

know Matt. I'm really interesting to see the

character development in this movie. I don't

know me either What I don't know Matt and then

cutting they cut him off Oh, I was gonna say,

Matt, are we being too hard on this trailer?

No, no, totally. Rip it apart. I was not impressed.

Again, like I said earlier, I'm one of the, uh,

if you're gonna make it, make it like the source

material or don't take the name, and you've done

fucked up. This should've been Street Frogs or

something. Street Frogs? Oh, dude, Battletoads!

They got me! Totally Battletoads! It's totally

Battletoads without the jokes! And what no like

bat yeah, you're exactly right cuz battle toads

the character designs look creepy as hell It's

just like the excessive violence totally fits

more battle toad than Ninja Turtles Yeah, yeah,

I agree. So I got two questions for you Nate

predictions about this film Number one will Megan

Fox have more or less than 20 lines 20 lines

that seems wait I'm going to say more. There's

going to be more than 20 lines, but less than

40. Okay. And my other question is, how many

characters will we be able to label as comedy

relief characters? All of them. Every single

one. Like even Raphael's going to be like, I

slipped on a banana. Whatever. Oh, man. We are

evil. I hope it's better than... I hope I go

in with such low expectations that I have a lot

of fun with this one. It's the only saving grace.

Maybe that's the only way you can is you just

gotta... Make sure you go to a matinee. Like,

don't pay full price. And then just like, make

fun of it the whole way through. I'm gonna go

to a Sunday matinee and it's like... Eighth week

when nobody's gonna be there and I'm gonna dress

up in a turtle costume 9 a .m. I have one I will

totally join you And I will not no I will it

definitely will and Nate will take pictures of

us now Anything else trailer wise that you guys

want to get off your chest? No, I think we've

covered them Alright, well we're gonna take a

quick break and then we will be back with a few

movies as well as our main attraction this week

Which is the Grand Budapest Hotel. Oh, is that

it? totally You can't arrest him simply because

he's a bloody immigrant Thanks for sticking with

us as far as the main attraction goes we will

get to Grand Pouda Best Hotel in a little bit

But we have a few other movies to talk about

first with what types of films we were watching

this week We're actually gonna start out of order.

We'll start with a film that Nathan and I watched

Earlier on the week, which was there will be

blood I know Nate you have a lot of opinions

on that one. So why don't you start off with

that? There will be blood is amazing. I recommend

every single person to go see this movie As soon

as the movie was finished, I looked at Kevin

and I said, that movie was great, I will probably

never watch it again. But I'm completely wrong

because ever since I saw it, I want to see it

again. I want to watch it with Matt. I want to

watch it with my fiance. I want to make sure

everyone that I know sees it and I want to be

there with them. And now you'll know what it's

like to feel like... with me and kind of monochrist

yeah yeah um man it was just so cool and like

i don't know i feel like it's a modern day uh

western style uh citizen cain like matt have

you seen citizen cain no but wasn't that a western

movie no I thought you meant like an Americanized

or European of like that was Citizen Kane? Daniel

Day -Lewis is amazing in that. I will pretty

much watch any film he's in. And the last 20

to 30 minutes of that film is just ridiculous.

It's a long film. You'll be drained after you

watch it. But then you'll be glad you watched

it. Yeah, definitely like set aside time for

that one because and then pay attention Because

it's slow and it's methodical but it it is worth

watching and paying attention and I Just think

it's a great great film. I still think as weird

as that actor is What is that guy's name? Danny,

no. Oh, the priest? Yeah. I still think that

he's slightly young to play that role, but he

is gotta be one of the creepiest actors out there.

He just can totally play the kind of psychotic

slash out of his mind, creepy character. And

he's now, I've seen him do that in a couple different

films now. He did that in The Prisoners. Paul

Dano is who I'm talking about. He did that in

The Prisoners. Am I getting that right? No, not

The Prisoners. Did it in there will be blood

and he's played that and like at least one or

two other. Yeah prisoners I was right and 12

years a slave so he's played that character of

multiple times and he is just creepy as heck,

but I just How close to Ben line is creepy is

he do you think? Good to who been been Linus

from lost. Oh No, no, he's a different type of

creepy he's like I picture him being the bad

guy on Criminal Minds that just killed people

in weird, torturous ways. But I don't know. I

have no problem with him. He did a great job

in the role. I just think it's weird to have

that young of a character playing a preacher

out west at that time in history that everybody

was just following and believing. I think it

would be an older man. Yeah, yeah, but that's

just a minor nitpick the movie is fantastic For

those of you that didn't hear we might be doing

this more on a regular basis And if you want

to just completely be a part of our movie going

experience then on Fridays you should definitely

log on to Twitter and and just watch the madness

as As we live tweets about whatever films were

watching cuz we did it this last week i don't

think anybody really was paying attention but

uh... no one cares but i got one friend who was

there for it but yeah we were live tweeting about

a film we watched which is called master i'm

gonna call it master ip isn't it? no no isn't

it ip man? it's ip man yeah ip man master ip

was in ip man ip man um which is a kung fu i

don't know how you how do you describe that film

matt Well, it's a it's a biopic about Bruce Lee's

master set just before World War two into World

War two That's Yeah, I mean with the IP man You

don't that is a direct thing. You do not do I

had some comments about that like the Like he

he he is a really nice man, but when you mess

with him, he is a really needfully Yes, and he

will beat you with a feather duster. And how

many films are there, Matt? Four. But they do

a weird thing where it's like, IP Man, IP Man

2, IP Man Enter the Fist, and IP Man The Dragon

Returns. Nice. I think it's one, two, three,

and then the final fight. No, wait. And it has

a Matt LeBlanc Japanese doppelganger in there.

I'm not even gonna lie, I got him and another

guy mixed up. They looked similar and then I

thought they were the same guy and then they

weren't. Anybody that likes martial arts films,

kung fu films, should check this out. There are

some absolutely crazy fight scenes, which make

this movie well worth watching. uh... i don't

know how much i would like it but actually really

enjoyed that film yeah i did not expect to like

it uh... and i thought i guess it's uh... action

movie i know that much it'll probably on my uh...

my boss actually suggested to me where he's like

watch i p man you watch the first one before

we get out you'll see them all uh... i tried

to explain why i don't have time to watch uh...

everything else i have to do but i i did make

a point of watching the first one and i have

want to see the other ones. It's actually, uh,

I .P. Man and the Legend is Born is the third

one, and then The Final Fight is the fourth one.

They started with the numbers and then threw

it out halfway. Nate, what did you think of that

film? I liked it. It wasn't as good as The One,

though, but I liked it. Not as good? Really?

The One is my favorite kung fu movie. Like, The

One is fun, and it's got a great sci -fi story

element to it. I just don't think the scenes

are nearly as well choreographed as IP Man. Oh

no, there's like, I'm definitely, I'm more in

for the storyline than the fight scenes. The

fight scenes were way better in IP Man, or IP

Man, I don't know what you were saying. But the

one, I don't know, I just like the storyline

better. It had a good storyline. The storyline

was okay in this one. But the problem with IP

man is the subtitles are only on for about half

a second. Oh my god. I'm actually curious if

that's a Netflix thing and if we had a different

version of like a DVD if the subtitles would

be better. You literally could not blink while

watching this film. And you definitely had to

watch when you were sending your tweets out because

if you were tweeting during a scene, you missed

like 18 lines of dialogue. Yeah, it's really

hard to live tweet while you're trying to also

read a book. That was now the smart choice by

us. A book of a film, I guess. Would you guys

recommend this to just people that like kung

fu and martial arts films or action films or

everybody or what? Well, if you like kung fu

movies or if you want to see a biopic, somewhat

about Bruce Lee's master, then it's absolutely

worth it. If you have a problem with subtitles,

then this is not the movie for you. Not only

are they really fast, there's a lot, and it's

very story -driven. Foo is every so often with

a big section of exposition in between. So if

you can't stand or even are on the fence about

subtitles, do not. Don't even. Don't bother,

you'll be getting mad at yourself, and they'll

throw stuff at your TV. And when you throw stuff

at your TV, I'm just kidding. I saw a different

company do that commercial, which kind of upsets

me. What? You know the commercial that's like,

when you wake up late. Dish Network. Yeah, then

I saw something else do that, and I was like,

wait a second. Truly gunny candies. When you

eat trolley gummy candies, you realize that it's

weird. And then you think, it's even weirder.

Don't eat trolley's. Don't watch our commercials.

That was not it. Going on to our co -main event,

I guess, here. Co -main attraction. Nathan and

I had a chance to see this film today, actually,

in the theater. And a couple different. Movies

came out this week that we were interested in

and we saw the film Noah, which was the box office

winner this weekend and We won't spoil anything

but I Hadn't seen much about Noah going into

it besides like I think the very first trailer

which Does not give you a good idea of what this

film will be like. Oh Yeah Yeah, no, it's very

like bait -and -switch almost. Yeah, like, I

mean, the trailer sets it up like, hey, this

is a modern -day version story of the biblical

story of Noah. It's kind of looking like Russell

Crowe in The Gladiator. but it's going to be

all modernized and it's going to be cool because

we're going to get a lot of visuals about all

these animals and the massive scale that this

is going to be done on and check it out. That's

what the trailer makes it seem like. And then

within the first 10 to 15 minutes of the film,

you realize that that is not quite how that's

going to go down. Am I allowed to talk about

and I'm all bleep this out if you don't want

me to am I allowed to talk about the giant rock

monsters No, no, they're like guardians of the

earth or something Man this is this has a lot

of fantasy elements injected into this film like

like flaming broadswords What? Fantasy and all

kinds of craziness. I feel like I missed out

a little bit It's not your mama's Noah story

I just was like I don't care about a bunch of

animals on a boat Oh my gosh, and oh, the animals

on the boat thing, the animals just come to the

boat in like five minutes and it's done and they

don't even address it. Because of God, like of

course they would. The biggest problem with doing

a Noah story is the animals. Yeah. Because everyone's

like, come on, two of every animal, come on.

And they're like, what do they do with them?

And they're on the boat. They're going to poop

everywhere. And they're going to need to eat

and stuff like that. Well, they problem solve,

folks. Like a swarm of insects will sprinkle

potion on them and they will sleep for the entire

movie. We're good They they don't dwell at all

about the logistics of Like managing animals

on an ark. They're just like okay God's God can

do this Whatever the and they never say God by

like God or whatever they just call him the creator

so it's weird it's it it doesn't feel at all

like a Bible movie it just feels like Like, Russell

Crowe in a fantasy film. It's really cool. You

know how you have those fucked up lights that

the flies are attracted to? It's like the arc

became one of those lights and all the animals

just were magnetized. They had to go to that.

And literally you don't even get hardly any close

-ups of animals whatsoever. Outside of some snakes

and some birds and stuff like that, you don't

even really see a lion or an elephant. I mean,

maybe from afar. But it would have been cool

to see like giant animals fighting the army,

you know for them or something but kind of hoping

for a scene where a giant lion just kind of like

walks right by Noah and Like it's that moment

where it's like, uh, that's a giant lion and

then he just keeps walking like I was gonna hope

for that Yeah, that could have been but I mean

that almost makes him too human and this movie

it's like They don't even try to like make Normal

like make people act like normal people. They're

just like I Don't know. Do you know what I'm

trying to say at all like in a way? I Don't know

everyone in this movie is just like crazy um

I know we're spoiling them a little bit But but

that has to be said because it might get some

more people to better understand what they're

walking into I will say that and we kind of talked

about this Nate and I as we're leaving the theater

that Emma Watson was pretty good in this film.

Oh yeah. Annie from Harry Potter. That's how

most people will know her, but she played one

of the main characters in this film and she held

her own. Yeah. Who else is there? She had a really

good moment at the end there that I can't spoil,

but she was balling, being all sad and stuff.

Right. Acting well. She was in there, Anthony

Hopkins was in there, obviously Russell Crowe...

Oh my god, Matt! What? Anthony Hopkins is totally

just like Gandalf. He's awesome. They like, it's

like... It's like, if I describe Noah, I would

say, like, a clan of barbarians seek help from

an old wizard. And you'd be like, that sounds

like a fantasy. And then, like, giant rock monsters

help them defeat an army. And it's just like,

what? Future you needs to go back 24 hours and

let me know. Where's Tom Cruise in his time travel?

But yeah, there is some issues from the movie

I don't want to get into the issues Because that

will spoil a few things, but I think some of

the decisions made throughout Could have been

a little bit different. There's definitely some

logistical things that they did that don't really

make sense as far as a time situation as far

as how long certain things take and I think they

could have obviously everyone knows the story

of Noah or if you don't I mean, it's common knowledge

for most people, so it's not really spoiling

anything, but I don't feel like they spent enough

time on the whole 40 days, 40 nights at Sea Part,

and kind of the tension and the suspense that

could be about, you know, basically floating

in an arc for 40 days, 40 nights, not sure if

you're ever going to see land again or if you're

going to die before, you know, your food supplies

run out, that type of thing. They didn't really

focus on that at all, and certain things happen

really quickly, and they kind of... brushed by

them. So, I mean, there are issues with the film

that I had, but there's also crazy fantasy stuff

that makes me kind of interested in certain parts

and wondering what the heck I'm watching. Nate,

overall, if you were to give this one a 1 through

5 star, what would you give it? I know it's not

the main attraction, but sometimes we talk about

stuff and it might be confusing if we're actually

giving it a good review or not. Yeah, no, okay,

so I thought about this one and originally I

was like like For the movies that I like it could

have done it could have gone even crazier and

that would have been better But it's still really

cool, and I really liked how they interpreted

and just added stuff to the Bible basically I

don't cuz like I I mean, they had to add stuff.

I don't remember that in Sunday school. The number

of people that were on the ark is slightly different

than the biblical story. Yeah, exactly. I just

like taking the chance that they did. They're

probably going to be under a lot of flak because

of this. So I don't know, I think it's a really,

I don't know, I'd probably rate it pretty high.

I want people to see it, but it's not perfect.

It's not a really amazing, it's not the perfect

film, but definitely go see if you can. I'd probably

give it a 3 .5. I'm probably right around there,

3, 3 .5, somewhere in that range. Just because

there are a number of issues, but it's still

a fun thing to watch and people should probably

see it once just for the spectacle of it Yeah,

if exodus if exodus Or whatever it's called now

exodus doodly -doo I think yeah, if that takes

a note from Noah, then I would be super happy

I want that I want that to be insane as well.

I would expect it To be but maybe wait really

Scott's doing that isn't it? Yeah, never mind

That's Moses, right? Yeah, I mean I was way more

interested in Moses than Noah. You've even got

more chances for magic and fantasy. Yeah, he's

like his whole stuff is all magic everywhere.

I throw my staff into a snake. So we'll have

to see what kind of route that one takes. Getting

into a movie that we all three saw this week,

and that would be our main attraction for the

week, and that's Grand Budapest Hotel. Matt,

you haven't had a chance to talk in a little

bit as far as the movie goes, so what was your

initial reaction from Grand Budapest Hotel? Well,

so I only saw maybe one trailer, maybe two, so

I didn't expect it to be doing the sucker punch

where it's like, we're telling a story, nap,

we're telling a different story, nap, we're going

back even further. I didn't know it was a story

nested in a story and nested in a story. Which,

I don't know, it helped it out a lot, I guess.

I don't know, I have nothing bad to say about

this movie. It was just so much fun. It's everything

I could have hoped for and more. I didn't know

that Willem Dafoe was in it. No, me either! I

didn't know Adrian Brody was in it. I didn't

know that... Edward Norton was in it. It was

so many guys. I was just sitting there going,

whoa, that guy, whoa, again. Yeah. No, there

was a cameos up the wazoo, which is not unexpected

as far as Wes Anderson goes, but they still catch

you off guard a lot of times. Nate, what was

your kind of going into it? What was your expectation

beforehand and just your first initial reaction

without getting into detail? Well, when I first

saw the movie, I was a little, I mean, when it

was, like the first 15 minutes of the movie,

I was a little worried because they hadn't settled

down and they were introducing so many characters

so, like, rapid fire and I was just like, okay,

when does the plot happen? But it all paid off

because, like, the movie is amazing. I really

enjoyed my time with it. Yeah, definitely definitely

Really good. It's hard to say like what exactly

about it I really like other than I mean, I love

the characters and I love the the cinematography

is amazing Just everything about this movie.

I just loved Well, that's a good you kind of

brought up the characters Lynn and Matt was referencing

a few of the cameos, etc So let's get into that

I will kind of preface that with saying that

I do agree with you as far as the first 15 to

20 minutes. At first I was like, I don't know

what, I mean, Matt kind of said a story inside

a story inside a story. And then it was kind

of hard to get grounded at the beginning to figure

out which storyline are we supposed to be getting

involved with and invested in. And I was glad

that it kind of settled in and went the way it

did. But at first I was a little kind of ...

Nervous like I don't know if I'm going to like

this film and then I ended up liking it but getting

into the characters whether it be the cameos

or Some of the main characters obviously we had

it all finds playing Gustav H Relatively to me

unknown Tony revel or II was zero then like you

said we had Adrian Brody Willem Defoe Jeff Goldblum

I can never say her name. Sorry Ronan or How

would you say it was Agatha? Ed Norton, F. Murray

Abraham, you had Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Bill

Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Tom

Wilkinson, Owen Wilson. Which characters did

you find to be the ones you were liking the most

throughout the film, Nate? Jeff Goldblum's character

I really liked, just because it's Jeff Goldblum

playing Jeff Goldblum. Willem Dafoe was threatening

as all hell. Like he did that roll well like

you were afraid when he was around What else

I felt like Edward Norton Edward Norton Like

played himself, but he shouldn't have because

he was like a weird French officer or something

was a French He was he didn't have an accident

all like he really should have because he was

just like hey, I'm an American guy and But I

mean it takes place in a in a complete fantasy

Country too with a fantasy war and it just you

know nothing nothing was right about the movie,

but it was just so great What about you Matt

or some of your favorite characters overall?

Oh The young zero, I think I don't know I just

the the the the farthest back that the movie

goes the Which I guess is where the main story

the bulk of those two characters Gustav and zero

and like I just love all of that like I mean

more than any of the side characters I love the

like the I don't know like the Chemistry they

had no Like the old -timiness like like we're

you know, we say the nice thing We follow all

the manners like I love that element of it I

guess then they were the leading force for that

in all things, you know One of the thing I actually

really loved is how they change aspect ratios

as they were going farther back in time. I Did

not realize that My gosh the whole movie like

the movie with young zero and Gustav was Four

by three aspect ratio. Yeah, so it was like a

tea an old TV screen or whatever, huh? I mean

I noticed the hotel changes with all the years,

but I didn't notice that aspect ratio change

They did so much stuff with the cameras and with

the angles and with the like you said the aspect

range and everything like it was there were just

cool shots throughout this especially like some

of my favorite scenes were obviously a lot of

the film takes place at the actual Grand Budapest

Hotel and the stuff they do with like the different

windows and the doors and the upstairs to downstairs

shots and even when you're looking outside like

from a window down to the front like outside

of the hotel and having people look up like they

just did some cool stuff with the shots around

and inside that hotel and I thought it just made

it made it fun to watch as you're trying to figure

out Different things about the film. You're also

enjoying the kind of the shots and the scenery

as you go I agree with Nate though. I thought

Jeff Goldwyn was really good and to me that was

Like you expect some of the other ones because

like Adrian Brody and Ed Norton Bill Murray and

Jason Schwartzman are like they're in most of

Wes Anderson's films. I don't remember seeing

Jeff Goldblum in any Wes Anderson films so like

aquatic. Oh except for life aquatic. Yep. He's

like the main Antagonist and then yep, that's

right. I was gonna I was thinking of like Bob

Rock and Moonrise Kingdom Rural Tenenbaums I'm

like, I don't remember him in any of those, but

you're right life aquatic But he was really fun

in this one to me and he played a cool character

He was probably my favorite side character, but

I really liked Ralph Fiennes as Gustav H. He

was just ridiculously funny Yeah, he was great

to watch he absolutely did not care what anyone

was saying to him like he was the boss But then

at the same time he had that like tendency to

just run at any situation Like just didn't matter

and I like the fact that they kind of just made

up this whole like Like the whole setting for

the film like this kind of this made up world

that they created. I love the use of models.

Like the acclamation department and everything.

Yeah, jeez. And like the 2D flat background.

Yeah. The art direction in this movie is just,

you have to see it to really get it. Yeah. And

I was really worried because when I text you,

you saw it before I saw it. I saw it the night

before. I was like, is it good? And you were

like, I'm not saying anything. I'm not saying

anything. I didn't want to sculpt your opinion

at all. Yeah. No. Well, we came to the same conclusion.

Yeah, I'm glad. And that's why I was upset that

you didn't go and see it today, where I could

have re -watched it with you again. You would

have want to have done that? Such instances are

hard. If you had done the Noah's Saturday and

the Grand Budapest Sunday, I would have probably

gone with you to see it again. Wow, I didn't

know that. Well, the thing is, well, that's not

for the podcast. What about the music in this

one? Do you guys notice it? Oh, yeah, definitely.

The background music was great. I didn't notice

it. I thought it was pretty fitting for the type

of film and kind of like the style. When you

think about it, both Noah and Grand Budapest

Hotel were very stylized films in completely

different ways. There was very definite choices

as far as design and style and the way they shot

it and stuff. This one especially, the colors

are crazy in this film. It's super saturated.

Yeah, and just the color palette that they choose

for different things and different scenes. I

don't know. There's there's a lot to like about

this film. I haven't been a fan of all of Wes

Anderson stuff I haven't I haven't had a chance

to see all of what things and stuff and I want

to rectify that as soon as possible Yeah, and

well we can do that I haven't seen I don't remember

seeing Royal Tenenbaums, but I'm sure I saw at

least part of it and Obviously, I don't remember

in depth like Life Aquatic as much as I should

Bottle Rocket I really enjoyed, Fantastic Mr.

Fox, Moonrise Kingdom I've enjoyed, so this definitely

ranks up there as one of my favorite ones, one

of his films. Matt, how do you compare it to

some of the other Wes Anderson films you've seen?

Someone had mentioned, I had read before I went

and saw it, or no, it was heard on another podcast,

that unlike the previous movies, there's not

a love that's driving the story like there is

in the other ones. It's just more adventure less

love Yeah, I'm right there with they were I don't

know if I agree with that point But I think I

like it more than I've seen I haven't seen most

of him I've seen Royal Tana bombs I've seen life

aquatic and I saw Rushmore as a really young

child and I don't remember it all that much I

just never being this weird movie my parents

were watching But I like it more than all of

the what I can remember the other ones He's had

a lot of success as far as like how his films

come across like if you go just by Rotten Tomatoes

Like all of them, but two are in the 80s and

90s like the only ones that aren't life aquatic

was 53 % and Really and the Darjeeling limited.

I don't know if I said that right is 67 % But

everything else is 80 and above and his highest

one would be Moonrise Kingdom at 94 with fantastic

Mr. Fox at 93 the Squid and the Whale at 93 and

the Grand Budapest Hotel at 91. So he's had some

films that have been pretty kind of universally

acclaimed. So we will have to watch a few more

of those to see how they stand up to those. Anything

else you wanted to bring up, Nate, about parts

you liked or aspects of this film that you appreciated?

I really appreciated how tight the script was,

like, there was no, uh, like, bad scene in it.

Like, there was no, uh, scene that didn't matter

or scene that wasn't entertaining. And it was

only, what, like, a hundred and, uh, twenty minutes

or whatever, a hundred and thirty? No. Maybe?

Or no, no, no. Wasn't even that much? I thought

it was like an hour and thirty. It's like an

hour and a half, right? Yeah, something like

that. There's something to be said. Noah was

two and a half hours long and it was like, jeez,

but it was still good because of the spectacle

and everything. This movie, even though it was

a lot shorter, I felt it was packed in with entertainment.

Definitely worth watching. Wes Anderson won the

MTV Movie Award in 1996 for Best New Filmmaker.

Is that the blimp? I just find it funny that

he won an MTV Movie Award period for Best New

Filmmaker before this. That's gotta be one of

the first times that MTV's got something right.

We were talking about all these people that reprise

their films. I looked it up and he's had eight

films. Owen Wilson has been in seven of them

and Bill Murray has been in seven of them Wow

So that's ridiculous Anything else Matt that

you wanted to bring up about Grand Budapest Hotel

before we give our ratings out Mmm After you

watch it like just don't talk to anyone just

sit there and digest it for at least an hour

Yeah, yeah, that's that's what I can suggest

to you guys And I will say, I mean, it's not

a film that's going to be for everybody. But

it's not a film that is going to be for everyone,

but everyone should watch it, should give it

a chance. You do have to have a working brain

to enjoy this film. I think Joel, I don't know.

Oh man, you just said Joel right after I said

you need a working brain. That had not come out

how it meant, kind of. Kind of. You can't sleep

through part of the film and expect to enjoy

it. Bus running people over. As far as ratings

go, who wants to start off with a one through

five rating of Grand Budapest Hotel? Who started

last week? I think I did. Okay, so Matt, you

have to start this week. I'd give it a solid...

4 .5 Like like I'm like I'm literally going like

Is it a five? I don't want I don't want to say

perfect. I want to say 4 .5. It's uh The probably

the most entertaining movie I've seen in theaters

Probably ever like I like more than the Avengers

Which I loved I love the Avengers and I'm a huge

comic book guy, but this was the most entertaining

Situation I've ever had a theater in my life

Now that is a ringing endorsement folks. If you

were not sold on it yet, you should be. Nate,

what's your ranking? I want to give it a 4 .5.

Well, I want to give it a 5, but I'm going to

give it a 4 .5 because I want to see it again

and then really decide is it a 5. Because I want

to say it's a 5, but I don't know. 4 .5. I can't

do what we did last week and I'll give the same

rating, so... So I have to do something different.

No, I will give it like the highest four I can

possibly give. That does not mean I disagree

with anything that they've said, though. I just,

it's... Give these ratings out when I see so

many films over the course of the year and I

gotta leave there I gotta leave a little room

for something to be better I guess maybe Since

I'll probably see another 40 or 50 films this

year Jesus So jealous. So I will give this one

a solid four with the asterisks there that I

can change my rating in the future. Alright,

so that is how we felt about Grand Budapest Hotel.

Obviously we all agree that you should go see

it. As for coming attractions, on Blu -ray this

week coming out that you can purchase, we have

47 Ronin, which did terrible in the box office

last year. We had Anchorman 2, The Legend Continues,

which had two different theatrical releases.

The first version and then the unrated cut that

they couldn't put out at the same time because

of legalities So you can hopefully see both versions

on that DVD set if you're an anchorman fan What

else do we have we have? Not a lot The Pirate

Ferry the Pirate Ferry animation fans you can

also go see go pick up the Ice Age 4 movie sets

Yeah, there's not a lot. Little Rascal saved

the day. So I guess you could possibly see 47

Ronin if you're into that, but I didn't see it.

It just got terrible reviews. Oh wait, isn't

47 Ronin like a... Keanu Reeves. Yeah, Keanu

Reeves movie. It looked like it had a sliver

of potential after its first trailer, but apparently

not. It had that, didn't it have a really weird

puppet trailer too? Puppets? I'm almost certain

that it had a trailer that was all puppets that

didn't make like it was like wait isn't this

a live -action movie? I Don't know I'd have to

go back and check that out and see what they

list is all the different teasers and trailers

for this one and it's a combo pack I don't know

what it's coming with or if it's just like a

I Don't know. We even know what that means anymore

As far as theatrical releases, we do have quite

a bit of stuff coming out here on different days

because the first ones come out on the second,

which is Wednesday, and that would be a limited

release of Dom Hemingway, which Dan and I talked

about way back when. That's a limited release

on Wednesday. Then Thursday obviously is the

opening of Captain America, The Winter Soldier,

which everybody and their brother will be going

to see. And then on the actual movie release

day, Friday, you have a bunch of stuff that is

going to be overshadowed by Captain America.

Including Under the Skin, which got a little

bit of policy, limited release. You have the

Disney, I think not Disney, but the IMAX nature

type thing with Morgan Freeman, I think, as the

narrator, Island of Lemurs, Madagascar, which

I referenced in the beginning. And then a whole

bunch of stuff that no one's going to see. Yeah,

everything's in the limited release because Captain

America is going to steal the show. Yeah, I mean,

on the other side of the tracks, Nymphomaniac

Volume 2, Alan Partridge, I don't think most

people are going to remember with those. Most

people aren't even going to know that those came

out in the theater this year because of Captain

America, and if you don't see Captain America,

I'm guessing you're going to go see Dom Hemingway.

That would probably be the second biggest one

if it's around in your theaters. Are you guys

both planning on seeing Captain America relatively

soon? Are you excited for it? Are you kind of

indifferent? What's your opinion on that? I'm

super excited, and I'm going to pre -order the

tickets probably tomorrow for a Saturday showing.

Um, I... I don't work Saturday. I'm going with

Matt. Oh, really? Well, I am now. Okay. He's

made a commitment and it's recorded and it will

live on in posterity so if he goes back he can

forever be a liar. I guess. All right. As for

our credit conversation, we will quickly go over

some of the feedback that we got from last week's

episode, which was Muppets Most Wanted. The website

is cooperating this week. So we got the question

last week was, what is the best video game film

adaptation? What is the worst video game film

adaptation? Or which video game should be made

into a film that has not been yet? And it seems

like the universal answer to what is the best

video game film adaptation is that there hasn't

been one. But Street Fighter is still the best.

He says Street Fighter. I think Street Fighter

is probably second best. I want to say the original

Mortal Kombat is the best. And that folks should

tell you what kind of stuff we're working with.

Street Fighter was whimsical and fun. Some of

the films that people threw out there... As far

as their favorite films, let's see, what did

some people say here? We had... Zelda was one

that someone wanted to be made. A number of people

were wanting Zelda, I think. A number of people

wanted a Zelda film, specifically TFG, when Mike

said a link to the past film. I like the comments

on Olympus Has Fallen, that that was basically

a Splinter Cell film. since we talked about the

rumors about a new Splinter Cell film. Someone

kind of liked the Doom movie, Connor Murphy.

It wasn't all that horrible. That's a ringing

endorsement for these video games. Ringing endorsements

for these video game films for sure. Freddy Savage,

the original Mortal Kombat, holds a special place

in my heart. The sequel, though, is just the

worst. A lot of people talking about Halo. Uncharted,

I think, got mentioned three or four times. Someone

said Prince of Persia wasn't horrible. I don't

know this franchise well enough to rate it on

the movie. We had Duke Nukem, Metroid, Sonic,

Mega Man, Metal Gear Solid as films that people

might want to see. There actually is a Japanese

Mega Man movie that came out two or three years

ago. I saw bits and pieces of it. I'll have to

talk to a guy. I know a guy who had it. I will

still stand by that if they hadn't made the Transformers

films that they should have used the War for

Cybertron game series to actually be the basis

for the movies instead of what they did. But

that'll probably get some reactions. I don't

know. Oh, Star Fox. Somebody said Star Fox could

make a good film. Don't go for Brad Mole who

wants to see Dingo Crisis. Dingo Crisis. Dingo

Crisis. Man, it's not making fun of our fans.

I don't know, Brad Mole, you're cool. Ditch the

South Park thing. And then also Dingo's. Dingo's.

But if you get a good point about Turok Dinosaur

Hunter, which I think was a really fun game for

the 64 that didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Yeah. I agree with some of these people that

are talking about Duke Nukem as well, I think

that would be a terrible idea. So your guys'

answer to the question as far as the best ever

is, is Street Fighter in Mortal Kombat? Yep.

Yep. And do you have an opinion on what the worst

is? Legend of Chun -Li. Yeah, I'm right there

with him. Like, M. Bison was the whitest dude

ever. Like, the guy who plays M. Bison in Captain

America plays Dumdum Dugan. Can't... Who casted

that movie? He also plays, he plays, not only

does he play M .Bison, he also plays Vega in

that movie in a different scene, which you shouldn't

do. You shouldn't have your main villain play

your second main villain. He's like a bad nutty

professor. They have a pool of talent to choose

from, apparently. They had one guy that said,

I'll be in your movie, and they're like, shoot,

we have to do like three characters with you.

As far as next week's question. I was looking

at a couple things here. We talked a little bit

about Indiana Jones continuing on. The rumor

was Bradley Cooper attached to it. If it's not

Bradley Cooper, who would make the best either

Indiana Jones or young Indiana Jones? I was curious

about that. And which DC character should the

Rock play? Do you agree with what we said, or

do you have somebody else that the Rock should

play? So we can react about Indiana Jones and

the Rock for next week. All right, so thanks
