About this Episode

We discuss Marvel's latest blockbuster, Thor: The Dark World, comparing it to the original film and debating its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Our conversation includes a look at the box office performance, the 'Avengers effect,' and a specific focus on the character dynamics between Thor and Jane Foster. Additionally, we share our thoughts on the recent release of Ender's Game and discuss the latest industry news, including potential casting for the Terminator reboot and rumors surrounding future DC films.

This is Phil Lamar, and you are listening to

the Geekcast Radio Network. Coming up on MR Weekly,

we discuss the new Robocop trailer, the new release

date for Star Wars, and a main attraction discussion

as we get into Thor the Dark World. All that

and more on MR Weekly. And welcome to MY Weekly,

where we discuss the movie week that was. I am

one of your hosts, movie revolt fan, and joining

me today is Kevin Optimus Solo. Hello, how are

you today? Good. And we actually got our own

special Avenger for today. We have a little bit

of a special guest here, JD from In Session Films.

How are you? Good. Thanks for having me on the

show. Thank you for joining us. We really appreciate

it. I guess before we get into what we've been

watching recently, do you want to tell the listeners

out there what In Session Films is and how they

can find it? Yeah. We are a movie podcast, much

like this one, and a movie review site. Our main

website is InSessionFilm .com. And just like

what you guys do, we just do movie reviews and

we have a movie podcast that we do every week.

And you can find all the details about us at

InSessionFilm .com. If you I've listened to a

few episodes myself and if you're a fan of MR

weekly There'd be no reason why you would not

be a fan of in session films You guys have a

lot of great discussion over a lot of great you've

used as well Your video review podcast is pretty

cool, too. Oh, thank you great a great spot for

any movie fan but if you are joining us for the

first time just to give you a idea of what we

do here. We start each show with a look at what

we've been watching recently. We'll move into

the movie news and then we'll mosey on over to

our main attraction. This week we'll be discussing

the latest Marvel release with Thor the Dark

World. And then we'll be getting into our look

at the upcoming releases, theater and blu -ray

releases, and finish with a credit conversation

as we discuss the feedback from last episode

and look forward to the feedback for this upcoming

episode. for next week. So starting things off

here, would anyone like to discuss anything they've

been watching recently in this past week or so?

Real quick before we get all the way into that,

just obviously people may be wondering where

we were last week. There was no episode last

week, we apologize. Dan had some personal things

going on and Michael and I decided that we would

rather not do a record without him. Given the

circumstances, so we decided to push it back

a week and wait for this one to come out. So

Don't worry. We weren't weren't abandoning you.

We were just taking one week off and now we should

be back in full swing. Yes Yes, I do appreciate

that Yeah, unfortunately, we did miss last weekend

Michael Powers couldn't make it tonight, but

luckily JD was here too So yes, we I should thank

you for bringing that up, but But I honestly

have only seen, this is a crazy week for me,

so the only thing I've seen is the coming attraction,

or is the main attraction. So I will let you

guys handle what we've been watching. All I've

been doing is trying to finally, after living

out of a hotel for a couple months, I finally...

almost caught all the way up with my DVR from

television shows. So that can actually free some

time up for movies and whatnot. Nice, nice. Yeah,

I can understand that. TV can build up really

quickly. You miss a week and you're missing a

month or so. That's intense. Especially recording

in HD because it takes so much more space. Yeah,

very true. I guess what i'll just want to discuss

we which we didn't get discussed last week because

we missed a record I went out and saw ender's

game. Um last week, you know the the I don't

know if any of you were able to watch that at

all, but I Going into it. I was not super super

excited for it. The trailers didn't really catch

my eye I've never read the book so I don't have

a I have an understanding what the story is I

know the acclaim but I actually really enjoyed

it much more than I anticipated I We just like

the world that was building I liked some of the

actors some of the kid actors weren't that great

But other I thought the the main lead was was

solid and I thought Harrison Ford actually showed

up to a role for the first time in a good while

I do think like it does correlate a lot with

what's going on today, politically and socially,

especially with the idea of drone warfare and

just the idea of, you know, how do you end war

and what morality of war and things like that.

And it does really play well today, considering

the fact that it was a book written, you know,

20. 30 years ago. Yeah tends to actually be more

timely now. So JJ, did you have an opportunity

to see? Yeah, we actually reviewed it on our

show last week and I'm I I've read the book I

saw I'm pretty familiar with it and I kind of

had an idea of what was going on in I was sort

of like you though even knowing the book the

trailers didn't 100 % sell me on it and I kind

of feel like the trailers actually kind of gave

a good chunk of it away at least the better parts

of the book and I thought the movie did a really

good job though it There are some major things

things that are left out and of course that's

going to happen when you're doing novel adaptations

Although I feel like they missed some parts of

the book that are really crucial especially when

you start to realize who ender is In the movie,

he's a little bit more softened than he actually

is in the book. But overall, it was still very

familiar. And they got the main skeleton of the

story right. And they got the main themes, kind

of like what you were talking about, I thought

was done extremely well. And like you mentioned,

I thought Harrison Ford was fantastic. I mean,

he really nailed the role there. And I thought

Asa Butterfield did a good job, too. I felt like

he was a little like I feel like in the beginning,

he wasn't sure to take the character but as things

started to unfold he really started to capture

the essence of who Ender was and overall I thought

it was great the visuals were good and yeah I

thought it was really well done given the fact

that there was so much to capture of that story

I thought they did a really good job with it

watching it the one thing I kept going into my

mind was the trend recently has been to Split

books apart like we you see like Hobbit with

three that's been made in a three movies you

Harry Potter last book was made into two I was

You know watching that movie I'm like I think

this would be a film that may have been better

off if it was split if this book was split into

multiple movies because that was like the one

thing with the pacing it just never is very fast

and It's just going from it just it introduces

one concept moves it moves on to another concept

I'm like, well, I was still kind of digging that

last concept you were talking about Yeah, like

and now we're on to something else and sure and

that yeah, that is exactly pretty much how I

reviewed it on our show last week I mean because

it really could be two different movies, especially

with the battle school. There's so much in the

book that starts to define Ender in the battle

school and we don't really see hardly any of

it and Especially because there was a lot more

practices that was going on and a lot more Actual

practice games that we don't really see that

really started to define ender and it was fast

-paced I would definitely give you that and That's

kind of where I was like, well there was a lot

missing but they got the main skeleton of it

Right, but it did go by really quickly. I would

agree with you on that Yeah, I overall though

I would recommend it. Yeah me too If you haven't

if you haven't gone out to see it yet, definitely

go see if you were a little apprehensive because

of the trailers I think it's definitely worth

a watch. Um, do you have to see it in theater?

Maybe not necessarily but the special effects

I think are better appreciated on a big screen

more so it's not something like gravity where

it's a must -see but I do think that those space

sequences especially with like use of technology

and stuff like that or Certainly enhanced on

the big screen. I'll say it's a huge step up

for Gavin hood from origins Wolverine at least

for me. It was huge step up Yeah, yeah, I would

agree with that. You can't really go much downhill

after that. Yeah for sure But yeah, it's pretty

much a similar. I had a because everything going

on with my family recently I have not had a huge

opportunity to see movies besides this main feature

duty We give you anything else you wanted to

talk about that you saw in the past week. Oh,

yeah I will besides Thor I did also see about

time which is that new rom -com that came out

this last week, which I would highly recommend.

It's it's very very good The other main thing

though that I wanted to discuss and While like

we could talk about time if you really want to

but I thought what was more interesting for me

though This week is I rewatched for the first

time the Dark Knight Rises It's the first time

since I'd seen it in theaters and the first time

I saw that movie in theaters I didn't I liked

it, but I didn't love it and I definitely I especially

like the Dark Knight much much better, but I'll

say this time around I enjoyed it a lot more

and I'm still trying to put a finger on why and

Maybe it's because I was able to get into the

characters a little bit more and I especially

was able to I guess kind of comprehend a little

bit more what was happening with Bane and and

all that sort of stuff where I feel like maybe

I missed some things or for whatever reason and

Just really enjoyed it a lot more the second

time around and I ended up really liking I still

think I like the Dark Knight better But as far

as ending out that trilogy, it just went to a

whole different level for me and I really enjoyed

it quite a bit For me, I actually I'm kind of

the opposite of you. I'm not necessarily I do

agree Like I like the Dark Knight much more than

the Dark Knight Rises But when I first saw the

Dark Knight Rises, I think I was a little bit

too forgiving with it in a lot of the issues

That were there. I kind of just glossed over

a little too much Especially with the plot and

just some issues just yeah. Yeah why things happen

the way they do? I've watched it. I think a few

times. I saw it again When I bought the blu -ray

right like it wasn't that same year and it's

been on HBO a lot Yeah, yeah scenes here and

there and I think there are Specific scenes in

that which are brilliantly done in like they

have that Nolan direction that you're expecting

But there are there are some it's not as tight

as a dark night and some of the I think there

are more holes the poke But I still really love.

Yeah, I can forgive it I mean, I think those

issues make sure a little bit a lesser film than

Dark Knight like And just the reasoning behind

things like, you know, why all the cops would

go into the sewer, you know It seems kind of

like illogical sure just to get to a certain

point But still I I I do think the thing that

I realized with the Dark Knight Rises it feels

the most like a comic book movie of all the Nolan

films maybe maybe a little bit I mean the second

half of Batman Begins feels a lot like a comic

book movie But Dark Knight Rises feels like an

actual comic book just in a lot of the extremes

Yeah with the bat symbol on fire on the bridge

like that's a comic book moment Which we really

didn't get with Dark Knight the Dark Knight her

which I'm okay with But I think I think I as

a yeah. Yeah turn some people Yeah, I mean and

I agree with you on on those criticisms. I mean,

I think the film definitely has Things that you

could kind of poke at as you're mentioning And

those were still there for me. I didn't necessarily

take those away I just think overall I still

had fun with it and maybe it's because I knew

those criticisms They were still there. I was

still able maybe to forgive them a little bit

more the newer and I still had fun with it and

I enjoyed the Bane character even with the kind

of weird voice I still thought overall it was

kind of it was still done really well and and

even with those sometimes comic book moments

I don't know I still thought it was really good

and I just enjoyed it better I'd still I'd probably

still put maybe Batman Begins above it I'm not

sure that maybe that's debatable, but I don't

know for whatever reason I rewatched it this

week and I just had a better time with it and

I Don't know. It was it was good I think maybe

I just enjoyed the performances a lot more, you

know cuz some of it got pretty deep and there

were some pretty raw and emotional moments that

I thought just were done extremely well, and

I think those just kind of amplified it a little

bit for me Yeah, I do agree there's some good

performances there I mean, Kevin, have you had

the opportunity to see Dark Knight Rises? I saw,

excuse me, I saw all of them originally in the

theater. But I've been waiting to re -watch them

until the trilogy was done, until I could get

some type of nice little three -pack of... etc.

So I've purposefully not rewatched them yet.

Just been kind of waiting for that opportunity

to see them all in their best format with all

the different extra features, etc. So I have

not rewatched any of them yet. So anything else

before we take a little break here and come back

for news? No, that's it. Unless you guys want

to talk about the last Agents of Shield show

because that was the only other thing that I

saw. I have not had the opportunity to check

it out. So I'm like Kevin. I am very behind with

television. Yeah. It's getting better and better.

So that's all I'll say, I guess. I do hear that,

which makes me happy. Yeah. But we're going to

take a little bit of break here. You're going

to hear a nice ad break. And then we'll come

back with this week's past news. The Pull Bag

escape into comics and accept your punishment

today. All right, and welcome back. We'll begin

this week's news like we always do with a look

at this past week's box office, and no big surprises

per se. Obviously, the big thing this past week,

number one, by a landslide was Thor the Dark

World making... Banking in about 86 million dollars

for this past week US domestic gross making about

350 million worldwide It was you know, it's been

out a little bit longer overseas and in the US

so making more than Thor 1 About 10 20 million

more than Thor Thor 1 to dead when it was first

released still not nearly as much as Iron Man

3 But, you know, a significant improvement. Anyone

surprised that we're seeing, you know, obviously

an Avengers effect for Thor the Dark World at

all? Box office -wise, at least. I mean, I'm

somewhat happy, I guess, that, I guess, is this

the Avengers effect here? That the second Thor

is outperforming the first Thor. I don't know

if, you know, that first, phase one of the movies

were more so kind of, more, subject to People

not jumping on board yet, but now that Avengers

has been out Maybe all the movies will do better

than their first or second versions and in Iron

Man's case So no not not surprised that it dominated

the box office So that tiny bit surprises that

how much it better it did over its first first

movie in its Line, I guess you call it. Yeah.

I mean, yeah, that's the one thing with all the

Marvel movies Dave everyone every sequel has

done better than its predecessor which is Mean,

I guess the norm but it just it just keeps happening.

Yeah, I'm wondering if that's ever gonna stop

but you know Yeah, no kidding I'm not at all

surprised either and you know kind of like, you

know what Kevin was saying I think it just has

this Avengers effect kind of going on and I think

that's only going to continue in and even if

people didn't see the first Thor I think a lot

of people would have liked him in the Avengers

and I think that's just gonna that's just a big

reason that's just kind of pushing this movie

forward with everything that's going on. I think

the marketing has done a pretty good job too,

just kind of going off of that. But yeah, I mean,

I'm not at all surprised. It's only going to

continue. So Marvel's doing a pretty good job

of capturing what it's doing right now. Just

a quick question for both of you. The first Thor

made more money than the Captain America when

it came out in the same summer. Do you see Captain

America, the Winter Soldier, making more or less

than Thor when it comes out in this upcoming

May? I think it's really going to be dependent.

I haven't seen the full slate for the next summer

movies. My initial reaction would be that Thor

would do better But like I said depending on

what's coming out right away after Captain America

I Don't know that's a tough one Although they're

both obviously Avengers, and they're both the

Marvel crowd it attracts two different groups

outside of those particular fandoms So it's hard

to say I mean that Don't know I initially I would

have thought that Captain America would have

done better than the original Thor So the fact

that the original Thor did better Yeah, and that's

it's a really tough question and I I would agree

with that I would like to tend to think that

Captain America will end up doing better. I think

what Thor maybe had going forward was I think

the first one had some some some better casting

than the first Captain for the first Captain

America, but I mean I enjoyed both of them. I

thought both of them were done extremely well

and from what I've seen from the marketing so

far from the Captain America Winter Soldier,

it looks really awesome, and it looks much like

what I think Thor 2 was. I think it'll end up

being a huge step up from the first one. I think

marketing will end up being a big part of it.

Just like with Thor, I think the whole Avengers

thing will end up just snowballing, and that

effect will keep going. My guess, I would say

Captain America... From the people that I interact

with I think Captain America will end up doing

better But it's hard to tell like Kevin I'm saying

it's it's so hard to tell Yeah, I agree I think

I think Captain America at this point has a stronger

buzz than Thor the Dark World But that can change

in the upcoming months, but my first thought

would be it will surpass it But yeah, you really

edit like you mentioned. It's hard to you never

know because I mean the thing is it Captain America

is gonna be coming out in the summer, which is

more crowded, but also Hunger Games comes out

in two weeks, which is gonna I'm certainly gonna

be hard for Thor. It's probably gonna push Thor

out a little bit. To me, what's really gonna

determine it is how long Captain America can

sustain a presence at the box office because

Thor will get shut out eventually. I mean, you're

gonna have the Hunger Games, you're gonna have

the next Hobbit movie. and then everything that

happens with the holidays, it doesn't have maybe

as long of a shelf life as you possibly could

have. But again, that depends on what is going

to come out for those summer blockbusters next

year in June or early July. Or will Captain America

be able to sustain that two, three months of

strength? Definitely. Last week's number one

enters game is probably has one of the biggest

drops it made Only about you know a little bit

10 million this for this past week at number

five There weren't really any other big releases.

I think most things just got out of the way for

Thor Had the better second week then than Enders

game, but to drop from number one all the way

down to number five And be passed by having the

resurgence of bad grandpa passing Enders game

is a bit surprising Yeah, Las Vegas I think was

it's not necessarily a fair thing to say that

it's Second week as much because I don't think

it was in a ton of theaters in that first week

I'd have to go back and check but I'm somewhat

surprised that Jack has bounced up to two and

Ender's Game fell so far. Yeah, that to me is

pretty surprising because I mean I liked Ender's

Game and the book has a pretty big following

so I would have it was a little bit surprising

to me how far it dropped off and I guess it just

kind of depends on how I guess avid of a fan

you are of the book because I mean it really

could go either way I could see fans of the book

really not liking the movie because there's so

much left out of it. So in some ways, it's not

surprising. It's kind of 50 -50 But I mean it

didn't have the worst reviews out there though

either so it is a bit surprising Yeah Look at

the counselor for a second if you want to it

it was it's only this third week and It lost

two -thirds of its of the theaters that are showing

it There was about three thousand theaters that

were showing it and now it's down to only a thousand

For only being its third week It that's kind

of shocking to me that that many theaters dropped

it But again look at all the different films

that have come out with that are still being

shown in a lot of those theaters Yeah, you know

gravity Captain Phillips still and now Thor so

apparently the counselor is the one that got

the early squeeze out Did you see the counselor

I do. I mean, I'm not saying I'm sort of based

on the actual film, but I guess I haven't seen

a couple other films that maybe I thought would

kind of fall away a little too. And I bring it

up every week, so why not keep doing it? But

I thought maybe with Freebirds coming out that

we would finally see Despicable Me 2, not that

I want to see it, but that we'd finally see it

and its run. It yet again had an increase. A

7 % increase for Despicable Me is still making,

you know, half a million in its 19th week on

the charts. That's crazy. That's crazy. It is

now in the top 25 domestic all time. Dang. Wow.

Yeah, that's crazy. I mean, it has passed. Transformers

dark the moon lord of the rings two towers spider

-man three it's passed all of those recently

to break into the top 25 and it's a It's five

million away from passion of the Christ at 23

thing Those mean they're popular Yeah, what's

gonna happen? I mean, I'm pretty sure we'll see

another despicable me. Oh, yeah The minions movies

coming out either next year the year after I

think which will probably do just as good if

not better. Oh, for sure, yeah. I would agree

with that. So those are my biggest surprises,

that the enders game dropped so much to see the

counselor just completely basically removed from

theaters. And the fact that with a second, with

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Three

Birds out now, Despicable Me -ish 2 is still

showing an increase. And along those same lines,

it's not showing an increase, but the Cloudy

with a Chance of Meatballs still in the top 10.

Yeah. That's another franchise that it's not

nearly, you know, it's only made about you know,

a hundred million dollars at this point But still

that's another you mean another franchise that

keeps on going but yeah, that's pretty much all

I have for box office anything else you wanted

to go on to until we Switch over to this week's

headline. Yeah Sorry, I just want to mention

real quick that I love how well 12 years of slave

is doing I my co -host has seen it and loved

it. I'm seeing it tomorrow and And everything

I've read about this movie makes me excited.

So I love how well it's doing, even though it's

not in nearly as many theaters. And it's a very

small release. But I love that it's doing well.

And I like Stephen McQueen. So I'm pretty excited

to see it. And I love to see that it's doing

pretty well. I think some movies like that will

benefit from the fact that there's not another

huge release right away. Yeah. Coming out so

people that saw Thor and I'm looking for something

else to see Well, I think we'll gravitate a little

bit more towards something like sure In this

next week. I'm planning on seeing it. Yeah. Yeah,

I'm pretty excited for it I have had had a chance

to see it and I I mean not that I did love it

We talked about it two weeks ago. But yeah, I

think that's one that's gonna just stay it's

one that's never gonna make you know 30 40 or

86 million dollars a weekend But it's just gonna

stay within that six or ten million dollars and

just keep going and going because it's gonna

unlike the counselor Which is good I do I do

like seeing adult traumas. I do like seeing the

fact that Captain Phillips is gonna make a hundred.

Yeah $230 million. I mean, I think that's a good

sign when it's more than just, you know, like

franchise films that are doing this. Has Ender's

Game been released overseas? Do we know that?

I do not, honestly. I believe so. I think that

was worldwide, but I don't know if it's completely

everywhere at this point. Okay, I was just wondering

about that because, I mean... You know, because

I was thinking about, you know, like movies like,

like Pacific Rim that came out earlier this year

that, you know, was slow in the US and then blew

up, you know, overseas and ended up with like

$400 million total. I was just kind of wondering

if maybe that's where Ender's Game might end

up if, if it, you know, whenever it got its overseas

release, but I wasn't sure if it was released

yet or not. It's only made about nine million

dollars or foreign domestic foreign box office.

So my guess is if it's released overseas It's

a very small release. Yeah. Yeah, maybe just

the UK at this point. Yeah All righty anything

else or we we all set for headlines I'm good

All right. I'm gonna pass them like over to Kevin

and he can take us through this past week's headlines

Alright, let's do what we do almost every week

and somehow find a way to talk about Star Wars.

Yeah. Couple of news stories that hit over the

last weekend. Some of these news stories, I tried

to keep most of them from this last week. If

any of them slipped in with that week that we

took off, I apologize. But a couple things for

Star Wars here. First of all, the change of release

date. Now, for those that don't know the background

behind this, Kathleen Kennedy, who's basically

the one that George Lucas gave the reins to with

this was really trying to get this pushed all

the way to 2016. That's what she wanted. Disney

wanted it to remain in a 2015 release, so I guess

the compromise was to push it as far back in

2015 as we possibly could. So the new release

date is said to be December 2015. Thoughts on

release date good bad or ugly that Star Wars

will be coming out in December of 2015 I don't

remember I haven't had a chance to look at Extended

releases all the way through there to see what

other things will possibly be slated for that

holiday season But has there any has there any

of the other Star Wars been released in December?

No, it's the first one not released in the summertime

That's what I thought. So this is going to be

a little bit interesting to see how a Star Wars

movie coming out in December will affect the

landscape of 2015. I mean, I personally think

Disney's really good at picking the right times

for their movies. And quite honestly, it's Star

Wars. It doesn't matter to me when they release

it. People are going to flock. to see it regardless.

I mean, even I don't care if it was January 5th

or February 7th or December of 2015. It doesn't

matter. I personally think they're going to get

my money regardless of when they put it out.

And I'm sure it's going to be the same for a

lot of people. It is kind of an interesting choice

that it's not the summertime. But Marvel, or

not Marvel, but Disney has done a really good

job of, in my opinion, of picking the right times

for their movies. And honestly, in this specific

instance, I don't think it matters anyway. The

only thing it does for the 2015 in general is

it gives other movies a chance to be the highest

forcing film of all time. Exactly, yeah, that's

a really good point, yeah. Because it's only

going to have two weeks of money worth recorded

in 2015. And then alongside the same Star Wars,

and you can touch on this as well if we want

to, but... apparently holding open auditions

in the UK now this could be complete false you

know misleading casting calls just to throw people

off but the only reason I bring it up is because

apparently they're holding auditions in the UK

and the reason it's somewhat interesting is because

there's two roles described for people to audition

as So I don't know if you guys have had a chance

to read those roles of Rachel and Thomas. Obviously

those probably wouldn't necessarily be the names.

Or if any of you think this is even worth it

or is just a bunch of just internet banter and

stuff to throw people off track. Knowing JJ Abrams,

it's probably just stuff that people are off

track or there's like hidden meetings and every

little thing like he's You know, he keeps a tight

ship on pretty much everything he ever does and

anything that tends to get out is just Either

false or it's just some sort of game. He likes

playing with people Yeah, just to go back on

the release date real quick. My first thought

was when it was released in December 2015 was

Kind of just they're just placing it there just

so when they do move it to 2016 It's not as huge

as a jump. That was my first thoughts like, okay

It's really gonna be 2016 but they're just doing

it in shifts not to freak people out So but yeah,

my guess is that this stuff it could be true,

but I don't know T .J. Abrams is notorious for

Not releasing anything about his movie. So that's

why it has me a little bit suspicious Yeah Yeah,

I'm not putting a whole lot of stock into it.

I just something like that I'm not gonna read

into too much until I know something concrete

Yeah, I mean just like you're you guys are saying

JJ Abrams is the master at this he does he keeps

a tight ship on all this So it's I'm not reading

into anything until we get way closer to the

actual movie date So I'm gonna go a little out

of order here, but I think it's only fitting

to go straight from Star Wars news to Star Trek

news Especially when we're talking about JJ Abrams,

so The news that was was let out This past week

was as far as a possible director for Star Trek

3 and the name thrown out there was Joe Cornish

who most people probably aren't familiar with.

Dan, are you familiar with his work and what

do you think as far as his name being linked

possibly to Star Trek 3? Well, yeah, I'm familiar

with Attack the Block, which is a movie I really

love. And if you're a fan of geek culture, the

best way to describe Attach a Block, it's kind

of hard to say. It's like an alien movie meets

a Goonies meets Shaun of the Dead. Yeah, it's

like the wire Yeah, it's it's a I love it though.

I love I love attack the block and it's Joe Cornish

doing III think it's a good sign when you see

a director Who can make a really good low -budget

science fiction film? And you know do really

good interesting things with the special effects.

So I think he would be a good choice There's

nothing he's done at this point that screams

Star Trek. But what he screams that he seems

like he's a competent director Yeah, I'm a little

bit different from JJ Abrams Yeah Yeah, I 100

% agree with that. I think Attack of the Block

was good. And I enjoyed it for what he was trying

to do there. But like you're saying, it's not

very much Star Trek. So I'm kind of curious as

to where the direction they want to take the

franchise and what they're trying to do. Because

it's very different than I feel like what Abrams

was doing with Star Trek. While I think he's

a good director for what he's done, and I'm all

on board for giving these directors who's done

some decent work but hasn't done any big major

stuff yet. I mean, I'm all for that. I'm just

really curious as to how he got this gig. And

that's something we've talked about in my circles

here. I understand he made this low -budget sci

-fi film. I just feel like it's very different

than what they've done before. I wonder how those

meetings went and how he ended up getting this

gig so it's it's pretty interesting anyway yeah

we'll have to see see if it ends up being concrete

and and again it'd be interesting to see like

you said what direction he would take the franchise

And something else we do every week in our headlines,

seemingly, is we find a way to talk about some

other superhero news. So let's get right into

some DC rumors, particularly the one that most

people have been talking about, Nightwing and

Wonder Woman possibly appearing in Batman versus

Superman. Dan, your thoughts on the different

DC rumors going around with those two? I think

Wonder Woman could make sense, depending on how

they do it. Nightwing I would doubt what surprised

me a lot because it's like To explain the Nightwing

character to people. It's like, okay Well, he

was Robin and then he wasn't Robin anymore, but

then he became Nightwing I think that would be

a little little harder But the woman went woman

thing. I think it is perfectly logical. I could

see that happening Now if I if I understand the

timeline right from something I was reading and

correct me if I'm wrong but this basically the

batman uh... the dark knight for example trilogy

i guess if you want to say it or batman's appearance

he is supposed to be in existent uh... quite

a ways before uh... man of steel happens and

batman is supposed to already have basically

a presence and he's been there for a while and

then once we get to man of steel that's a good

deal past what we've seen already with batman

which could explain because my thing was I mean

I know this isn't necessarily completely directly

linked with Dark Knight I guess in that trilogy

but they somewhat allude to you know the character

of Robin in a youngest or the earliest form of

his contact with Batman in that trilogy so it's

weird for me to You know and I obviously in a

comic book Ignoramus with both DC and Marvel,

but to write my head around The age difference

here between a young Robin and isn't Nightwing

supposed to be just an older grown -up Robin?

Yeah, basically he is the original Robin that

leaves I don't I'm I'm not really well versed

in DC comics myself, but I do know that Nightwing

was originally Robin and then he Leaves and becomes

his own thing night like Nightwing Just and just

so like I'm not sure like how they're handling

it within Batman within this the the Man of Steel

framework if Like you said, I'm assuming that

Batman was an established character within this

world before Superman comes in. Obviously, like

the Dark Knight trilogy isn't going to correlate

with this at all, so it's not like, but yeah,

that is a question too. It's like, is Batman

going to be coming into power just because of

Superman or is he kind of already there? And

then, you know, this new dude shows up and, you

know. Yeah, I think one of the more interesting

things about this whole thing is For me personally,

I feel like they need to what they need to do

with the Wonder Woman I feel like they need to

be careful about because if if they're if DC

is trying to To to build up to something bigger

and trying to compete with what Marvel's doing

This is a pretty big character within their universe

and to just kind of throw her in there on some

sort of small side plot, I feel like would be

a big mistake. But if they're going to introduce

us to her for some sort of bigger role or something

that will end up leading to a bigger role, that

could be pretty interesting. And I like that.

But I feel like with Nightwing and now maybe

Wonder Woman and then obviously Batman now getting

into this universe, I also feel like they're

stepping onto that territory of having too many

characters in the film. Of course we've seen

how that has not worked in the past and you know

But we've also seen some films recently how that

you know can work So I just think they got to

be real careful about tiptoeing around that Especially

with Wonder Woman because I feel like that's

a much bigger role for this universe in making

it work I think it's pretty interesting and you

know Curious to see how it goes. I'm also already

at an arm's length anyway, because I wasn't the

biggest fan of managed steel anyway So I feel

like how they handle this will be pretty crucial

for a lot of people Yeah, and it's interesting

obviously they don't want to try to be seen as

someone who just is directly trying to Carbon

copy what Marvel's done But it's hard to say,

you know, can you really have that successful?

Ultimate prize, you know team up film Justice

League, whatever you want to call it without

first establishing all of your main characters

I agree with you. Just just half -hazardly throwing

A character that has not been established yet

into this film It could be disastrous. Yeah,

I 100 % agree. Yeah That's pretty much. Yeah,

I agree. I mean, it's it's tough It's I feel

like Batman Superman has had the most questions

out of any movie ever created yet like ever I

feel like every day. There's like a new thing

for sure, but Well, I mean, it's wait and see

my guess is if either character is in the Batman

Superman movie It'll be either was through a

small cameo or something in the background or

something I heard people were wearing like maybe

Wonder Woman will be Batman's girlfriend or something

like that just because there is casting out for

a girlfriend for Bruce Wayne that has the resemblance

based upon the description of Wonder Woman. But

I think you never know, it just could be something.

Yeah. What do you guys think about the rumors

of Olga Karylenko being the rumored front runner

for Wonder Woman? She's the one that played Lady

Seth, correct? I believe so, yeah. I think she'd

be fine. I mean, that's a tough role to play.

I heard some people talk about, you know, Gina

Carino or whatever from who was, you know, from

Haywire. And I don't think that'd be a great

choice just because she's not a great actress,

but I think she would be fine. I liked her in

the Thor film. So, and she has the look and she

can pull off the action. I agree. And I want

to bring this up because even though it's somewhat

TV related news, we mentioned this somewhat in

one of our past episodes. So I want to bring

it up again because we had mentioned some of

these characters. Apparently, Disney, Marvel,

and Netflix are joining forces to basically,

I guess, kind of try to mirror what Marvel's

already done on the theater. on the TV screen

in a much different way I guess, but the idea

here is to give some short series to a bunch

of different characters which would then evolve

into a mega combination mini series of some sort

after that. So basically the reason I bring it

up is because we talked about these characters

before. The ones that they're saying they're

going to focus on are Daredevil, Jessica Jones,

Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. And we talked about

them, you know, getting the rights to Daredevil

back and wondering what they were going to do

with it. So they're talking about each of these

characters having 13 episode series, kind of

getting into Marvel's street level heroes and

villains, and then eventually doing some type

of the Defenders mini series that binds them

all together. What are your thoughts on these

rumors, Dan? I think it's awesome. Honestly,

I was super excited about this. And I'm very

surprised it's happening this way, but very glad.

We know we talked about Daredevil, and like you

mentioned a few weeks ago, and they were like,

we have no idea what we're going to do with them.

But I think this is a good route to go. I think

Iron Fist as a character has a lot of great potential.

He had a great series out a few years ago, like

2006 or so, that got really into his martial

arts roots, which was really interesting. And

Luke Cage, too, has really come on. He was just

this generic power man in the 1970s with a bad

afro and big chains and almost like a wannabe

Mr. T. But recently, they've really done that

character well since he's been like in the new

Avengers. So I think all those characters certainly

have like a potential and this format, knowing

it's 13 episodes, knowing you don't have to worry

about ratings, knowing you can plan everything

out, I think it's great because I think what

we've seen with something like S .H .I .E .L

.D. is that having 22 episodes, maybe you're

spreading your money a little bit too thin, but

if they're 13 and focused, kind of like the UK

model, I think you tend to yield better results.

Yeah, I 100 % agree with that. I think for me.

I'm personally excited about it I think it's

a great test format for these characters, and

I think that's one of the bigger reasons Marvel's

wanting to do it. I think they've want to possibly

do something with these characters, do something

bigger with them, but put them out on Netflix

and see how well it tests out and if people like

it and see how that goes. I think it's a brilliant

idea. I also think it's a genius idea for Marvel

to take advantage of how much people are on board

with what they're doing right now. the only thing

I'd say with this and with the agents of TV or

agents of shield TV show and the movies it could

be possibly some overexposure for some people

and people could start to get burned out on some

of this stuff I think that's a potential hazard

especially for maybe the average fan but I think

for if you love Marvel and what they're doing

I think you'll love what they're gonna end up

doing with some of this stuff and yeah I mean

and like you're saying I like how they're condensing

it down to the 13 episodes and yeah I mean I'm

excited to see how they're able to put these

together and how it all kind of pieces together

and especially if there's any crossovers to any

of the movies and things like that you know later

down the road so yeah I mean I think it's a great

idea. Alright, and just these last couple I'm

just going to throw out there, and if you want

to talk about any of them, feel free. But just

to give you a few of the other headlines that

we saw here, apparently Lionsgate is currently

working on Saw 8, Juan Carlos, Fresna Diallo

to reboot Pet Sematary, and the Addams Family

to be rebooted, but... as an animated film. I

will bring up that one specifically because it's

an animated film and I like to talk about them.

But it appointed Pamela Pedler to write a script

for The New Incarnation and, if you're not familiar,

screenwriter well versed in this kind of material

with the likes of Corpse Bride and Monster House

on her resume. So any thoughts on any of those

three items, Dan? Adam Stradley cartoon I think

could work certainly. I haven't seen Cards Bride,

but I did like Monsters House Monsters House

So and I have no issue with that being remain.

I mean it's been done so many different ways

I actually even like though from when I can remember

enjoyed the TV movie or not the TV movies with

the movies from the 90s so I Would be all for

that One of the things that's interesting about

the Adams family is that throughout the ages

whenever they've had some sort of media format

Uh, they've always kind of been within whatever

decade or time period they're in. Um, and that's

how you're able to relate with a lot of the stuff

that's going on when they're on air. And so I

think putting it into an animated format with,

you know, the things of today, I think would

be a lot of fun. I think that could be pretty

fascinating. Um, and I would definitely be interested

in seeing how that would unravel as far as saw

eight. I was not interested after saw three,

so. I can't tell you anything about it, but the

Addams Family stuff I'm definitely interested

to see anyway. I'm just waiting for that Saw

8 pet cemetery crossover. Horrible, horrible

trap. Just reboot all of the horror films into

one combination film and get it over with, instead

of doing them each one at a time. Yeah, so that

was it for the headlines. I just have one casting

call to talk about that I saw that kind of seemed

interesting. I guess I didn't realize that they

were doing a Terminator reboot. I guess I've

been in the dark for a while. Apparently they

are doing a Terminator reboot and the rumor that

was being thrown around this week was the casting

of Sarah Connor. Who would be cast in that role?

The names thrown out there Game of Thrones star

Emilia Clarke 21 Jump Street's Brie Larson and

About Time's Margot Robbie Apparently Tom Hardy

is also being and Garrett Headland are also being

linked as possible John Connor and Kyle Reese

Thoughts about this in just in general Dan Surprising

with that casting like I like Brie Larson a lot,

but I never would have cast her as Sarah Connor,

I don't know it's make I wasn't sure what how

they're we're gonna do the new Terminator movie

that would be the new reboot or they're gonna

do something different, but It says it's the

first in a standalone trilogy. Yeah Makes me

a little bit skeptical. I personally don't like

the idea just because I like the I think Terminator

2 stands up As it needs in Terminator like I

don't think we need a reboot reboot You can just

go back and watch the originals and you'll be

fine. Yeah, but I mean those actresses that you

sent out I don't Besides Brie Larson and I have

watched Game of Thrones, but even that actress

I can't even think of the role she plays But

I don't know I'm indifferent towards it at this

point. Yeah, I'm right there with you I mean

Brie Larson maybe but I wouldn't have pictured

her in that role at all and Yeah, I agree. I'm

not even sure if they really need a reboot at

all But that being said I don't think studios

care about that if they think it's gonna make

money. That's all they're gonna do so There's

really no sense in fighting that, I guess, but

I don't know. None of those actresses necessarily

stand out to me, although I like Tom Hardy, and

wherever they put him, I think I would be on

board for that, though. I'm actually all for

them doing a few more of these reboots, because

I want a couple more to just completely bomb.

So that it's not just this guarantee I mean,

I'm not saying that there hasn't been some of

that bomb But you know the thought is we just

reboot anything from the 80s early 90s, etc Sure,

and we're gonna strike gold and and they have

with some things You know some of that stuff

was really well done as far as reboots. I think

of like the Planet of the Apes reboot and some

things that have been really good, but I need

some that just completely cost a lot of money

to whoever was involved so that they can at least

think twice and just put a little more thought

and concern into which ones you're doing and

which ones will really work. I don't think a

Terminator reboot does well. I mean, I could

be wrong, but... I agree. I just don't want it

to be just this knee -jerk anything we can remake

and people will go watch it because people are

sheep and I want it to be like you remake it

if it needs to be you know planet of the apes

made sense it was made originally in a time you

know that didn't have the capabilities of what

we have today to make it just a visual you know

something that's that's appealing and something

that's almost unbelievably real looking. And

I'm just using that as one example. Some other

ones have done well too, but if you think about

some of the sci -fi reboots, there's been a few

more flops than stuff that's really ended up

resonating. So, I don't know, I don't have high

hopes for this. Yeah, I think too part of it

is like the concept and like what terminated

goes after the idea like technology taking over

the world At this point like when it came out

in the 80s in the early 90s. It was a new concept

that wasn't really Explored to a great extent

today I think we've kind of hit that mark over

the head as much as we can like once we get like

the matrix where it's a full takeover and You

know, it gets to the point where I just don't

know there's any more to do with that idea I

think it's time to maybe unless I don't see them

bringing anything new or interesting to that

table like Terminator 1 and Terminator 2. Yeah

Let them be. I mean, the 1 and 2 are good. I

don't need to see another one. And if they are

going to do it, they better do it well. So that's

all I'm saying. So speaking of reboots, I think

that nicely transitions into our trailer talk

for today. Let's start with another reboot. I

don't know which ones of these trailers you all

were able to see. I know they showed this one

for me. at Thor and that is the trailer for the

reboot of Robocop. Did you have a chance to see

that Dan? I did and I saw the original and now

the new one that just recently came out. Thoughts?

The first one, I hated a great deal. I mean,

I hate that, like we talked about reboots, like

Robocop's another one that stands up. That movie

holds up so well and I don't know why we need

another one. I do like the director because he

made the Elite Squad films, which are excellent.

Like they're these great films with the Brazilian

police squad. I never, I didn't even realize

he was doing it until I was looking at this trailer.

But the second trailer, I do think looks better.

It looks not as... generic as the first one the

first trailer I saw like I was this minor is

this the re you know the the trailer for Twitter

recall because it looked like the reboot of total

recall just the glossy CGI just these the camera

looks very much like a Len Weisman movie this

one's a little bit different I'm still apprehensive

I still don't want I still don't want it to happen

but I do think they did a good job with the look

of RoboCop Yeah, I'm much better when I saw stills

of it. I'm like oof that looks awful It does

look better in action than it did like on a page

Yeah I haven't seen the second trailer I'm one

of those people that I hate being overexposed

to something before I go see a movie so for a

lot of films I'll usually watch the initial trailers

and then I'll try to avoid seeing anything else

after that if I can help it unless it's something

I'm really really excited for so I'll probably

will not try to watch another trailer, but I'll

say I did enjoy the first one a little bit. It

sounds like better than what you guys did. Again,

I don't know if this reboot is necessary, but

I kind of like how they make RoboCop look and

it seems like they're going to be dancing around

some interesting territories for me. And I think

it kind of had some of that initial Feeling I

got like when I saw the first Iron Man movie

with some of the visuals and stuff that it looked

like so And especially since I think they're

trying to make this PG -13 which is different

than the original two I'm a little interested

on on that level But again, you know, they've

been making and remaking some movies that even

though they're decent I don't think are necessary.

And so I think it's gonna be teetering on that

line I agree. Some other things that have been

released over the last week, I'll let you guys

comment on any of the ones that you find interesting.

A new trailer for Oldboy, some concept art revealed

on the World of Warcraft movie, a trailer for

Railway Men, a trailer for Winter's Tale, or

any of the stuff that has been released or seen

about Captain America or X -Men. Any of those

things that that you guys have seen that you

want to talk about Dan? Well, I mean the X -Men

trailer days of future past I'm so so stoked

for that movie. I cannot wait for it It's like

a you know my boys man boys dream come true.

Yeah, the only the only other film The thing

that really interests me with Railway Men is

that it's a movie starring Colin Firth, Nicole

Kidman, two Academy Award winners, Peter Sarsgaard,

who I think has been nominated. And it's coming

out in January, which is odd. And I do like the

story behind it. It's about Colin Firth plays

a World War II veteran who was in a POW camp

in Japan. And it looks like it's similar to that

of I forget then the basically they have to build

this bridge and there's this whole thing It reminded

me a little bit of the debt that came out recently

because it's him going back To revisit his past

sins or his past issues that haunt him I just

think it's interesting looking at that cast thinking

well This could be like an Oscar contender just

based on the cast but it is getting dumped in

January Yeah, which means it has no chance since

it's in January. Yeah True, but besides that

that's really I I didn't get I have similar to

GD I haven't I stopped watching the old boy trailers

just because I figured I know I'm gonna see it

so I don't want to ruin it for myself and The

concept art for Warcraft does look interesting.

I have hoped for that because I do like the director

who did moon and A few other films that I think

we could finally get a good video game movie

Don't know of a trailer in recent history that

has excited me as much as that x -men trailer.

Yeah That just looked like it was hitting on

all cylinders I Don't even know it seemed like

there's so much to see that it's like what we

were talking about earlier How can they do it

all in one film? So I'm definitely excited for

that one any of the any of stuff like that struck

your IG I mean like you're saying I mean the

X -Men trailer was incredible and I think one

of the things I loved about it is they kind of

set out Sort of the main plot point I guess but

outside of that they don't give away too much.

It's a lot of quick shots It's a lot of things

that are happening. So I love it and it was amazing.

It was just really well put together I know you

kind of briefly mentioned it earlier, but the

winter soldier trailer I thought was amazing

and I don't know if you guys saw Thor the dark

world in 3d or not, but if you did before The

movie started they played like a two or three

minute clip from the movie and then they kind

of continued onto the trailer, which I thought

was awesome. And I feel like that movie is going

to be a hundred times better than the first one.

And just it's continuing to ramp up with what

Marvel's doing. So I guess those two trailers,

I guess recently have really got my gears going

a little bit and that I've really enjoyed. But

and I also say I also enjoyed the old boy trailer

too. Again, I've only seen the first one and

I'm a huge fan of the original. So I'm really

curious as to how they're going to do it. Um,

and I'm not, again, I'm not sure if it's 100

% necessary, but it does look pretty interesting.

And I like Josh Brolin and I like a lot from

Spike Lee. So I'm pretty curious about that one

anyway. All right, Dan, I'll pass it back to

you then. Alright, we're gonna take a little

bit of a break here and when we come back we'll

be visiting our main attraction as we discuss

Thor the Dark World. And it has survived. I face

an enemy, not only to a few, only to one. After

all this time, you come to me for help. Loki,

you may have heard of me. That was from New York.

I like her. Thor, your family, your world, will

be extinguished. I can destroy everything. Alright,

and welcome back. For this week's main attraction,

we're looking at Marvel's latest big release,

Thor the Dark World. And just to start things

off a little bit here, just to be timely, I don't

want to go over every Marvel movie, but I'm curious,

before we get into Thor the Dark World, what

you both, what we all thought of the original

Thor, just to get our initial impressions going

into this. Did you enjoy the initial Thor? Did

you think it held its weight compared to the

other Marvel movies? What were your feelings?

I mean, I know most people gravitate towards

Iron Man as far as the individual films, and

a lot of people had problems with the original

Thor or the original Captain America. I know

a lot of people thought Captain America was rushed

and this and the other, but we're not talking

about Captain America, I guess. So I was one

that actually really enjoyed the first Thor.

I like... the sci -fi aspect if you want to say

that or the otherworldly aspect that Thor brings

into this universe I'm just a more of a fan of

that type of genre so Thor is I guess more up

my alley So I like that. I like Hemsworth I enjoyed

the first Thor I don't know I kind of go back

and forth as far as if I liked the original Thor

better if I usually side with liking Captain

America a little bit better I like them both

I still I guess I'm terrible because I still

haven't seen the original Hulk movie for this

universe because I just can't stand the character

Although he was good in Avengers, so maybe I

should eventually go back and see it I've just

never been interested to see a movie basically

just about the Hulk So yeah, I like I like the

remote more than some people I guess the first

thing I'll say is if you like talk in the Avengers

go see the Incredible Hulk Edward Norton's not

quite as good, but I do think it's pretty much

the same character in my opinion And I really

liked it quite a bit I also liked Thor the original

I thought was very good I thought they really

dove into the character really well I don't I

mean I don't think it was as epic as possibly

some of the other ones but I thought it was done

really well I liked Chris Hemsworth I thought

they did a really good job of setting up Loki

and Tom Hiddleston's performance really was very

good there as well. And what I really liked about

Thor the original is that while there was some

big things happening, especially toward the third

act of the film, A lot of it takes place in small

town New Mexico, which is very different than

most superhero films who has to be in LA or New

York or some sort of big city, where a lot of

this takes place in just kind of small time area.

And I thought that was an interesting choice.

To me, it kind of stood out and it was very unique.

And it was also a way for Marvel to introduce

these big new arenas for them to bring in Asgard

and all these different things, but it's not.

You know not a whole lot of people are gonna

be exposed to it So I thought it was interesting

and I really liked it quite a bit Along the same

lines as you guys I I'm actually a big fan of

the character Thor. I do realize that look aren't

But in the right hands, he's one of those characters

There are certain ones like I think spider -man

can pretty much be done well by anyone competent

But Thor takes a kind hand like you know, who

knows what they're doing? Because he you're basically

especially with the movies you're taking Lord

of the Rings elements of the Lord of the Rings

and combining it with Star Wars and Making that

mesh and trying to get people to kind of accept

it, which is a hard thing to do. But I think

they did a good job of introducing the character

to people and making him work within like a realistic

setting. There are certain issues I had with

the first Thor. I still liked it overall, but

unfortunately, we'll get into this, but I think

some of the issues I had with the original Thor

unfortunately kind of carry over into. this Thor

and mostly it has to deal with Chris Hemsworth

and his relationship with Natalie Portman. I

just I thought that was an issue in the first

movie and then which again carries over to this

one. But again I did I did I did enjoy it I don't

I would probably say I would rank it probably

above you know Iron Man 2 but not nearly as high

as Captain America or The other iron man movies,

okay? I'm sorry. I was just gonna ask what can

you explain a little bit just I guess for context

for me What what you didn't like between Thor

and Jane Foster? the original film I just thought

their relationship was forced very much so like

it like I felt like They're they have chemistry

per se but not a great deal of it and everything

that Thor becomes, everything that Thor turns

into, you know, from this cocky, very abrasive

person into, you know, a more, you know, genteel,

you know, upright citizen was based upon her.

Lot of a lot of that was based upon her and I

just didn't feel like that Relationship was strong

enough to earn that like there wasn't enough

there to make me think okay This character is

going to change who he is as a person because

of his relationship with this character like

they're just like Like I don't see how someone

could change that much within like a weekend

away I mean like that sure they had like a few

hours with each other and suddenly I'm this new,

you know, I I get you know, you can't have gigantic,

you know love story in this movie But when it's

such a focal point up to your character development

I just didn't think it was All there. I just

felt like they're just trying to push it in like

in and say hey, they love each other They're

telling you and showing you that they love you.

Yeah, but I never felt that like i'm like, what

didn't this happen? it just seemed to like magically

happen, but unlike say something I feel like

the relationship in the Captain America movie

between Steve Rogers and I would aim it escapes

me but I I enjoyed that relationship because

it was Subtle and it built and it more and more

and it was never overly stated and it doesn't

yeah It wasn't like they completely changed one

another. So that was my big issue with that Yeah,

and that makes a lot of sense and you know if

you look at Iron Man and the incredible Hulk

those love stories, too I can see those are developed

a little quickly on screen But those characters

also know each other really well off -screen

and which they set up in the movie So it makes

a little bit more sense where this is hey, I

meet you and in two days I fall in love with

you I can understand that and with what they're

trying to do it doesn't take away from the movie

for me personally But I can understand that criticism

and it does make a lot of sense. So thanks for

explaining that it definitely makes sense And

another thing I'd like to look at, if we're just

looking at the first Thor and kind of how our

thoughts are as we're going into the second one,

regardless of your take on Thor as a movie in

comparison to Captain America, Iron Man, Iron

Man 2, or The Incredible Hulk, regardless of

how much you like the movie overall, I think

they definitely had the best villain out of all

the original. films. Oh, yeah, yeah, 100 % agree,

yeah. I mean, the fact that that was the one

that they chose to include in the Avengers, the

fact that he still has a presence now in Thor

the Dark World, the fact that people are clamoring

for him to have his own, basically his own movie.

I mean, they hit a home run with a little. Yeah.

Oh, yeah. 100 % agree. And it's kind of interesting

because especially when we get into the second

one and kind of where they leave off with it.

I'm really curious to see how, if he is going

to get his own movie. And it's funny because

I was listening to Tom Hiddleston on the Nerdist

podcast this last week and he was kind of touching

on that and how overwhelmed he is with the fans'

love for this character and how well he's done.

Because it is, it's a huge home run for them

and it'd be interesting to see. kind of where

it ends up going especially knowing he's not

going to be a part of the vendors too and is

is I mean how far do you go before it's becoming

to be over exposure you know what I mean yeah

so it'll be interesting to see how they use him

going forward I guess so to speak Alright, yeah,

that was just my other thought on Thor 1, just

kind of get our opinions of the characters overall

before we went into the second one, Dan. Okay.

And just so people are aware, we are going to

be spoiler -free, so we're not going to spoil

any big, you know, reveals or anything like that,

just some general discussion, because, you know,

I'm sure some people haven't had the opportunity

to see it. If there are certain things we really

won't touch on, maybe we could save it. to the

end for some bonus or something, but just, you

know, because I know how people can be, especially

with some of those teasers. But if we do, if

we do slip up, we'll try to create some outtakes.

We'll be seeing later. You will hear a lot of

bleeping. But yes. So for Thor the Dark World,

then. So we talked about how we felt about the

first film. How did you guys feel Thor did on

his second go around? Kevin, what were your thoughts?

I think for me what I felt like going out of

the theater with the second one is that this

one okay it's almost like they did all those

phase one films and then they did the Avengers

and then Iron Man 3 I'm not saying anything bad

about it in any way I very much enjoyed the film

But the difference for me between Iron Man 3

and Thor the Dark World is Thor the Dark World

for me more So felt like the same type of vibe

I had when I left from Avengers Maybe it's because

Iron Man had already established that and we

already knew what to expect out of an Iron Man

movie for the most part through the first two

but for some reason with Thor the Dark World

it's I think if you watch Thor back to back with

Thor the Dark World, it's gonna seem a little

bit different in tone. different in a few of

the strategies that they used and some of the

feel that you get because to me it more so resembles

some of the stuff that they tried to do with

Avengers both from a comedic standpoint from

all different standpoints it feels I don't know

if any of this is making sense but it feels more

like I felt with the Avengers with how they were

treating the story and what balance they were

using between any romantic storylines between

any comedic side parts between the actual action.

So I was pleasantly surprised with that. I really

enjoyed the film and without spoiling anything

I think there are some action scenes that were

just ingenious. Pretty similar to where you're

at, Kevin. Although I didn't come out of Iron

Man 3 the same that you did. I really didn't

enjoy that movie. But I feel like this really

got me back to how much I love what Marvel's

doing overall. And I think... While I liked the

first Thor quite a bit, to me this is on a different

level, on a new level, which I would expect because

I feel like Marvel just keep ramping up and is

taking things to higher stakes and to higher

different levels, which I think is really great.

And I love what Alan Taylor was doing with the

direction. I loved his camera work and I thought

the visuals were really fantastic. And the biggest

problem I guess I'd have is with the main villain

here. I feel like It was hard to write what they

were trying to do with this main villain. I didn't

think he was necessarily set up well. I didn't

think he was written very well. And I felt like

they were trying to battle between how much do

we have this main villain in here versus how

much do we have with Loki? And then it was kind

of a tug of war with that because you can't have

Loki just sitting in a jail cell the whole movie.

And while I understand he has to be there because

of the consequences of his actions from the Avengers,

he's gonna have to do something here. And I feel

like they did mix that pretty well, but I feel

like the main villain suffered in terms of how

much we cared about what he was doing. And I

personally didn't really feel anything that he

was doing, but I did get a bigger sense of what

was going on, especially with the stuff going

on Earth. There was a lot more going on there.

It was definitely a lot more public and it was

much more bigger. The action stuff I thought

was awesome. I thought it was shot really well.

It was mostly just the main villain stuff. It

was the only thing, I guess, of the film that

I had a hard time with. And just to kind of,

because I had some time to try to, and you made

some sense with what you were saying in response

to me, I guess for me, I'm not, I guess I wasn't

trying to comment one way or the other on Iron

Man 3 on how much I either like or dislike or

how much I compare it to the other ones. For

me though with Iron Man 3 it was almost like,

not that it didn't need Avengers or not that

you needed, I mean I don't want to say that you

didn't need to see Avengers to see Iron Man 3

and to appreciate it or what not, but it almost

was like Iron Man 3 went off in its own direction,

like... It was the sibling that was going off

to college, I guess, and it wasn't part of the

family anymore.
