Network's Top 100 Countdown. Whether you're listening

to us through the Tooncast feed, the regular

Geekcast Radio feed, or Cinema Geeks, we welcome

all of you as we get into our final section of

the countdown. That's right, today we're going

to be going over our numbers 25 through our number

1 of our top... 100 animated characters of all

time i'm your host optimus solo and joining me

as you've heard through various parts of the

countdown is movie revolt dan hello hey how's

it going it's not going too bad excited to get

into the countdown today returning after a one

episode hiatus miss hard candy mandy hello what's

up also joining us once again is sketch how you

doing sir four for four baby Scheduling God shined

on you and smiled on you or whatever you want

to say. And then also joining us like he was

here last episode is none other than Mr. DJ Valentine.

Hello. I'm happy to be back in the same way I

assured you off air. I'd like to assure the audience

on air that this time, this time I've taken my

medication, so I should be fine. And just so

you guys are aware, Amanda does not know about

the comments that were made in last episode,

but she does know the characters that were revealed.

So we're all up to speed when it comes to that.

Amanda? Knocking down my number one slot. Don't

like it, but I'm glad that she made the top 50

anyways. We missed out on an epic duel between

you and DJ. You know what? Just because Mulan

saved fucking China and shit does not mean she

changed her entire friggin' species. Hey, hey,

hey, hey. Peace not war, but I will challenge

you. We'll have a list. You list the cool things

about Ariel, and I'll just list the cool things

about Mulan, and we'll see who runs out first.

I have a feeling that you will. And has a dragon

friend. Did she save all of China and an emperor

in her love interest and, you know, killed a

battalion of Huns and disarmed the greatest soldier

in history with a fan? You know what's bigger

than China is the fucking ocean because it covers

more of a planet. So she saved everybody in the

friggin' ocean from Ursula. Boo. She didn't do

anything. Her weird boyfriend did with a boat.

Mulan didn't need a boat. All she needed was

a fan. And she disarmed the greatest soldier

in Mongolian history with a fan. Alright, let

me play devil's advocate to both of you because

both of these characters actually did a significant

thing in their societies. Mulan, of course, she

saved all of China. But she also was a pioneer

in women's rights. In a way, right? And then

Ariel totally changed the... Mermaid rights?

Yeah, mermaid rights. But mermaid culture, they

were totally unaccepting of the idea of mermaids

and humans co -mingling. And now they're kind

of okay with it. Here's the difference. I would

just say this. The thing about mermaids and China

is that one of those two things exist, okay?

Back it off. Mulan trained harder in a Chinese

army, one of the biggest armies. I don't know

if you guys know that China has a lot of people.

And trained harder than everybody else. in a

scene that was stolen by Captain freaking America

himself in Captain America Civil War. Okay? Captain

America is... Ariel couldn't even show up for

her own performance. Because she was too busy

being an explorer and a pioneer in her own freaking

world. That's why. She was hoarding things in

her own personal cave. Right, right. You know,

somebody's got to start the hoarding craze. Oh,

man. So this is just a taste of what we missed

out on last week from not having Amanda and DJ

on the same record. So maybe we'll get a few

more of those. as we move forward. Dan, we talked

a little bit about it at the end of last episode,

but what are you looking forward to the most

and what are your thoughts here? As I'm going

to give the breakdown real quick before you start,

but so far we've had, I've been doing like the

running total. So, so far we've had 17 Disney

characters, 13 of them from Disney movies, only

four outside of the Disney movie sphere. We've

had 18 females. We've had 10 villains. Only five

Looney Tunes characters, only two classic Hanna

-Barbera characters, five Cartoon Network characters,

seven anime characters, five Pixar, five, I guess

what you would like to call the primetime or

adult cartoon characters, and seven 80s action

characters. What do you think of those numbers,

and how does that play into what we might or

might not see today? I guess we're very heavy

on Disney. I'm surprised by the... very low number

of hannah barbara the very low number of prime

time like adult shows of you know simpsons south

park drama like they've had very little representation

we haven't had a simpsons character yet so i'm

hoping that rectifies itself very shortly but

just thinking of amount amount of characters

that they're going to be i think some really

big ones that aren't on on the list because looking

at some of the most iconic cartoon characters

there are more than 25 and we have 25 spots left

so uh i'm gonna be interested to see who's left

out here yeah it's gonna be interesting because

when you talk about how iconic they are and it's

not just that they're not being talked about

today that means that they went from possible

characters that you would think would be in the

top 25 to not even being on the countdown at

all so that'll definitely make for an interesting

discussion in our wrap -up show as you said interested

to see too that we had if you would have told

me at the beginning that at this point we would

have just as many or more pixar characters than

hannah barbara or looney tunes characters i would

have not been in agreement with you i would have

thought you were talking some crazy stuff sketch

what do you think we're in for for today i think

any surprises or is this going to be something

that's pretty predictable from the audience or

the listeners i think it will be mostly predictable

but the way this list has been going there's

been some interesting things just popping up

here there and everywhere so i would not be too

surprised if up to five upsets occur in this

top 25 probably not more than that and then you

know all of the very expected characters should

end up about where you would expect them to be

i'm kind of curious to see how close we get to

what i had as my top 25 because i think i'm gonna

get close yeah and the other thing is that's

interesting about this is it might not necessarily

be who's going to show up but what order they

show up in as well that's something that kind

of interesting look out for um dj over under

on a number of times you and amanda debate each

other in this episode no i think we only disagree

on uh mulan and and ariel because i'm right and

she's wrong but i mean everything else i think

we see eye to eye on that's why i think she did

rank both of those characters on her top 100

so i will i mean one guy one girl has a dragon

as a friend one girl has a fish i mean it's it's

it's It's obvious who's the better one. Dragons

aren't real. Fish are. Got you there. I'm sorry.

Swords are real and she wields one while the

other girl can't talk. But she's got her body

language which is essential to any girl. Ariel

would lose every argument. She can't talk. Ariel

knows how to use the three seashells. That's

about all she knows how to do. Amanda, any other

surprises as far as the ones that you were not

here for, ones that were revealed that you're

sad to see go, or ones that you were surprised

made the countdown at all, or any other thoughts

on last week's episode? I'm a little surprised

Darkwing Duck was up so high, but... I'm glad

to see a couple of the others that were ranked

last time make it. Up until last episode, I had

no freaking clue what anybody was thinking with

some of these characters that have popped up

and the order that they've popped up in. So with

this episode, I have no freaking clue what to

expect, except I'm probably going to get mad,

like, a few times. I've never known you to be

mad, so I don't know what that would be like.

We're going to chart a new ground here. Let's

get right into it with our first pick of the

day, starting off today's countdown here. 25.

At the number 25 spot. Actually showing up on

more lists than everything except for Darkwing

Duck. As we said last week, Darkwing Duck is

on a lot of lists, but this guy was only on one

less list than that. We're going to go right

back and add another tally to the Pixar column

and another tally to, I guess, characters that

have a minimal. amount of speaking let's go to

wally from 2008 so dan we start with another

pixar character what do you think as far as just

looking at pixar in general because we've seen

buzz lightyear we've seen remy uh carl from up

we get wally in the top 25 what do you think

i think i think it's definitely disturbing because

you think about the movie of wally he had the

first what 45 50 minutes of that movie pretty

much by himself And a character that didn't talk,

really. I mean, he made some language -like sounds,

but... Right. Very likable, very animated. So

I think he's a really great character. And I

think we talked about Iron Giant a few episodes

ago. And I think they really have a relate to

one another in the sense of both having kind

of a robots that don't speak. But I think Wally

has a little bit more emotion to him. He's more

of a round character. And he also has that great

little relationship with E. Or is it? Is that

right? There you go. Yeah. So I love Wally. I

mean. Great character design. Yeah, he looks

like Johnny Five, but, you know, so great. Amanda,

you brought up the comparison between Iron Giant.

Do you think Wally deserves to be higher than

Iron Giant? That's kind of hard to say. I know

that that's one of our matchups, wasn't it? Wally

versus Iron Giant. I didn't see how that played

out, but they both had a ton of heart. Both were

willing to sacrifice themselves for, you know,

people that they loved. I think it comes down

to a personal preference here, really, because

they both stood for a lot of the same things.

And I think that maybe we're going to give it

to Wally because he did kind of bring back a

lot of people into a consciousness of who they

were meant to be. And so he brought all these

people back. So maybe Wally did a little bit

more than Iron Giant. I think Iron Giant was

a little bit, you know, smaller scale. But I

don't know. Personal preference. All right. DJ,

is WALL -E deserving of being in the top 25?

I guess objectively, yes. Personally, I'm not

a huge fan of WALL -E. It's one of the three

Pixar films I do not like, really. But I can,

I mean, I think WALL -E as a movie, yes. WALL

-E as a character, I mean, I don't know. Again,

I know I'm in the minority because I only watched

WALL -E because I heard Roger Deakins was a consultant

on the first. I don't know, the Earth scenes

or whatever. So I go and watch whatever Roger

Deakins does. But the character, I don't know.

Again, I got everything from WALL -E. I got from,

like you guys were saying, Iron Giant. But again,

I hold my hands up. I understand why he's there.

I think it might be a little bit too high for

this Pixar character, I would say. Sketch, do

you agree? You also did not have WALL -E in your

top 100. So is top 25 too high in your opinion?

Hmm. You know, thinking about it, Wally as a

character, he does a lot. And he expresses a

lot without a voice, which I think we've given

characters points for being able to express a

lot without a voice. And yeah, he does accomplish

a lot. He completely resets that society when

it's in such a terrible state. Plus he has a

nice romance with Eva. I like it. Yeah, I think

maybe 25 is a little too high, but probably top

50. Three people had him in the top 10. Dan,

In Session Film, and David all had him in the

top 10. I had it at 24, so I'm pretty much fine

with where it's showing up. I only missed it

by one spot. Because we care about you, what

you think. I'll just keep being the host. But

yeah, I like Wally. I never had seen Wally until

just this last... year, year and a half or whatever

it was. So I did like him as a character. I think

he's someone that you kind of instantly are drawn

to and interested to see kind of where it goes

from there. So as far as the Pixar characters,

I think so, you know, from what we've seen, I

would put him ahead of most of the ones we've

seen. I think, like I said, Remy, I would put

him ahead of Remy. I would put him ahead of Carl.

Joy, Sadness, I'd put him ahead of all those.

Even Buzz Lightyear, I think I would put him

ahead of that. Even ahead of Buzz? Not ahead

of Buzz. Other ones, maybe. Buzz, to me, just

has more things going on than Wally. But again,

it's the smaller opinion. They're only 10 spots

off, so obviously we had Buzz at 34, Wally here

at 25, just about 10 spots. But we're talking

top 25 and lower than top 25. I feel like Buzz

should be in the top 25. Like, if you flip this,

I would be fine. Yeah, if you flip Buzz and Wally,

I wouldn't mind that. But because Buzz is going

to be like, dude, I'm in the best trilogy of

all time. You got Wally above me? He doesn't

even talk. You're a child's plaything! We'll

have to see if the listeners agree or not with

our placement of those two characters. That's

an interesting discussion for sure. Let's go

to number 24 then, and let's start up another

discussion that we've had before, and let's see

how heated the panel gets from this one. When

we're looking at the top 25, I would debate that

most of them are pretty deserving. For sure,

top 50 characters, I guess where you place them

in that top 50 is questionable. This one may

be one that some people oppose. I don't know.

But we're going to go back to the wonderful world

of Disney. Go back to the world of Disney princesses.

Oh, no. So we have seen Mulan. We've seen Elsa.

We've seen Ariel. Number 24, Belle from Beauty

and the Beast. I'll just let Amanda start since

she was absent from our last Disney princess

discussion. What do you think of Belle being

in the top 25? And let's do the common thing.

Let's compare her to the other Disney princesses

that have been discussed so far. Was this JD's

number one? No, it was his number three. Oh,

Jesus. He is to blame. He had Simba at number

one. Okay. Well, I do think she's a fun character.

I don't know if I would rank her above some of

the others that we've already seen. Definitely

above Elsa. But as far as her being this far

up, I think it's cool that she's in the top 50.

But what did she really do? Four people have

her in the top 15. I guess the reason I put her

on my list, because I had her at 73, is I liked

the fact that she's probably the most, I don't

know, would we call her the most educated of

all the Disney princesses? Even though she just

reads. Bitch was in, like, what century France?

Did she really get to go to school? I'm just

saying, she was like the smartest person in the

town, other than her father. So, I mean, I give

her points for that, because it kind of broke

a mold. She wasn't just the pretty Disney princess

or the, you know, the royalty or whatever her

name means beauty i get that i get that but i

know the film is called beauty and the beast

but i mean that's not it wasn't like it was just

like paper thin you know there was something

more to her so i gave her a little bit more credit

for that i'm not saying i ranked her ahead of

some of these other ones that we're talking about

i do think she did a lot for empowering girls

and showing them that you don't just need this

man you know what i mean just because he's the

prettiest guy in town It doesn't mean he's the

right choice. Was he really the prettiest guy

in town? He's got a song. Yeah, did you see all

those other dudes? What are you talking about?

He had a song. He shot a duck with a shotgun

in the opening scene. Anything else, Amanda,

on Bell? I think that she had, she was one of

the stronger ones too. You know, she didn't take

the beast shit. She stood up to him. She didn't

act as scared as she probably was. So I think

she did a lot to show how brave and smart she

was and how independent she could be. Now we

don't know because obviously there's 23 more

spots. So we don't know if we're going to get

the likes of Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping

Beauty, any of those types of classic Disney

princesses. But DJ, if... We don't. Let's say

we don't. If we just have Belle, Mulan, Ariel,

and Elsa, are those the top four Disney princesses?

Or what's your take? I might switch out. I know

I'm going to probably get yelled at for this.

I might switch out Ariel for Jasmine. But, I

mean, I know this is more of a, you know, how

good was the movie sort of thing. Because I think

Belle is fine. But, again, she is not instrumental

in the climax of that film. Mulan is the only

Disney princess who's instrumental to the climax

of the film. She actually causes the end of the

movie. Bell is kind of like looking as Beast

is fighting Gaston. And I think Beast is more

of an interesting character to me in that movie.

But the movie, I think, is getting her over as

the. as such a character because i think jd or

whoever voted for that i must have really loved

beauty beast which i understand completely because

beauty beast it's like the first disney animated

feature to get nominated for an academy best

picture i think something like that so i understand

it but bell it i mean i i understand her being

there but again she's just i don't know she she

doesn't do much for me she she the biggest biggest

arc she does when she sacrifices herself for

her father and then she does the you know uh

don't judge a book by its cover thing that's

what the books are there for so you know metaphor

but i mean other than that she doesn't do anything

in the end other than you know don't don't kill

him you know that's all she really does i'm more

leaning toward you know elsa but she has superpowers

and mulan because she does stuff ariel and the

rest of these guys don't really do anything really

so i mean but that's how i'm judging him i might

i might be off on how i'm judging she switched

her freaking species we're not talking about

aria Out of all the characters in the top 25,

Belle made the least number of lists. So no other

characters on less lists than Belle that we're

going to talk about today. Dan, not on your list,

also not on Sketch's list, so we'll get both

of you guys' opinion. Is she top 100 worthy?

Top 25 worthy? i think she's definitely top 100

worthy i think we're not giving giving her enough

credit i i didn't rank her personally because

i i had elsa and i felt some of the other you

know disney princesses were a little stronger

but i think characters can be defined more than

this through actions like i think we tend to

think well this character didn't do anything

because we kind of uh reduce them to the actions

that they're doing but i think that there's more

to her than that. I think she's actually quite

a well -rounded character when it comes to being

a Disney character or Disney princess. If you

even want to categorize her as that, she, you

know, she has obviously the beauty, but there

is a compassion there. She is elegant. She's

smart. I don't know. I feel like she, there's

a lot more to her character than we're giving

her credit for. There's a lot of, she's the most

interesting person in her own movie. That's what,

that's kind of where I lose her a little bit.

I think that's a dangerous thing to say because

a character can be very interesting, but that

character will not be able to survive their own

film. It's like, yeah, a lot of times the most

flamboyant character is, yeah, they're great,

but they're only great in that short dosage.

And if you were to stretch that character out

for a feature movie, that character would be

tiresome by the end. So I think sometimes a character

needs to be... for lack of a better word boring

or allowing other characters to take the limelight

in some ways i would i would i didn't rank her

i did rank beast on my list so i do think beast

is probably the more dynamic character but i

don't i don't necessarily think that i don't

think she's a bad character i don't think she's

i don't think it's outrageous that she's on the

list i do think maybe she's too high i do think

like if i else is a much more dynamic character

than that she is i think she's a little bit more

groundbreaking in her portrayal compared to that

of bell or but you know i i would say that and

i think milan i prefer milan as a character as

well but i would say bell is much better than

someone like cinderella or oh yes um snow white

or something of that nature so she has a a lot

going for her i guess you would say so sketch

agree or disagree i agree with all those points

I've always liked Belle as a character. And I

didn't rank her because I felt like there were

more significant Disney princesses to rank. And

I kind of also figured that if she was beloved

enough that she would make the list. So I think

she belongs in the top 100, at least perhaps.

I would say below all of the other Disney princesses

that we have had so far. All right. So let the

Disney princess debate continue on the website

in the comment section. So I said it kind of

with Belle. I'm going to say it again, and this

will be the last time I say it, that our next

one might also raise some questions to some people.

These are the only two that I think you can somewhat

question if they're top 50, top 25 worthy or

not. 23. For our number 23. I think we all knew

this was coming based on the characters that

have been mentioned so far. And if we had mentioned

all those other ones and not this one, maybe

then we would be questioned. So our number 23,

we're going to go back to the 80s action characters.

Would anybody like to take a guess at to our

number 23? Duke? Is it a GoBot? is a go -bots

cousin we're going to go to Optimus Prime Transformers

for our number 23 going back to 1984 voiced by

the iconic Peter Cullen Again, we've seen Megatron.

We've seen some of the He -Man characters. We've

seen One Turtle. We've seen some G .I. Joe characters.

Optimus Prime here at number 23 on just as many

lists as Darkwing Duck. So interesting there.

Let's start with Amanda. You did not have Optimus

Prime in your top 100. Is he not worthy? I just

didn't have any connection with him, and I didn't

do my list objectively. It was all what I like

and what impacted me. I never really watched

Transformers, probably a little bit before my

time, we'll say that. As culturally impactful

as he is, I just didn't like him. DJ, could you,

since she wasn't as exposed to Transformers as

maybe some of us were, could you explain the

number one reason why Optimus Prime is deserving

to be on a top 100 animated characters of all

time list? One shall stand, one shall fall? He

is essentially John Wayne as a robot that transforms

into a truck and the greatest leader in 80s cartoon

history. I mean, how many reasons do you want?

Well, I was thinking there was one that might

stand out above the rest for those of us that

grew up and hadn't seen. I mean, I don't want

to spoil anything, but Death Watchers Prime essentially

traumatized. for a very long time. It was so

traumatic for the children when it happened that

they changed the ending of G .I. Joe the movie

because of how Optimus Prime effed up every child

in his death. Prime, you can't die. Do not grieve.

Soon, I shall be one with the Matrix. It is to

you, old friend. I shall pass the Matrix of Leadership

as it was passed to me. But Prime, I'm just a

soldier. I'm not worthy. Nor was I. But one day,

an Autobot shall rise from our ranks and use

the power of the Matrix to light our... The Darkest

Horror. That's what I remember from Out to the

Prime is that I was bawling like a crazy person

in the movie theater because they shot him in

the first 20 minutes of the damn movie. Yeah,

and it's something that I guess may be partially

skewed because of the country we live in and

the type of animation that we're exposed to.

had been something that most of us hadn't seen

before as far as actual death in cartoons you

know you might get that more if you're um you

know you were watching anime growing up or different

things that maybe took more chances like that

but Optimus Prime was obviously outside of like

bambi's mom and a couple characters like that

one of the first deaths i think i remember in

animation i did not have him in the top 25 i

had him uh closer to the 50 mark so i don't know

if he's really deserving of being in the top

25 i do think he you could make the debate though

or the defense that he is should be the highest

ranking out of the action characters that we've

talked about. So maybe we got the order right,

but maybe they're all skewed to be a little bit

higher than maybe they should be. Dan, I don't

know if you agree with that or not, but what

do you think? I would think, yeah, I would probably

break him out of all the 80s action or action

characters in general, probably at least near

the top. I'm not a huge Transformers fan compared

to a lot of people, but I did have Optimus Prime

on my list. I'm not sure if I ranked him or Megatron

higher, but you can't deny he's had a huge impact

within a generation that continues today, really.

And I know there's been 80 series, but it's been

covered in Geekcast Radio. There's tons of different

animated series that Optimus Prime has been a

big part of. I think he's one of those characters

like the Captain America, Superman type, where

you can maybe argue that maybe he's a little

generic. In some instances, he's not, you know,

he's not, as we've talked about, maybe the most

interesting of all the Transformers. Megatron

may be a little bit more fun, but... I think

he's a big reason for the success of Transformers.

So because of that, I think you could argue that

he belongs here. Maybe it's a little high. Maybe

it's not high enough. I don't know. As the lack

of Transformers expert, I don't know if I can

really say, but I'm glad he's not much higher

than he is, I guess I would say. He transforms

into a truck, guys. Maybe I didn't say that clearly.

He transforms into a truck. Sketch, you also

had Optimus Prime on your list. You had it pretty

close. You had him at number 30. He comes in

here at number 23. What do you think of this

selection? Well, first of all, there are cooler

things to transform into than a truck, like a

tank, and a jet. He killed those things. He shot

them in the face with his gun. That is a fair

point. Those were the ones that transformed into

tanks and planes. Optimus killed them. I also

liked when he transformed into a gorilla. Truck

versus monkey. All facts. Optimus Prime, out

of all of the 80s leaders, is definitely the

best of the 80s cartoon leaders without question.

Optimus Prime is such a figure of power and strength.

He's like father to the fatherless. If you had

a crappy childhood and you were growing up, Optimus

Prime was that inspiration for you. At least

that's what I'm told. I had a great childhood.

I don't know. I didn't. He was my dad. And they

killed him. They killed him in front of me. It

was a bigger deal than Mufasa. Oh, it was a bigger

deal than Mufasa. I didn't cry at Mufasa. I cried

at Optimus Prime. You didn't cry at Mufasa died?

We'd already seen Optimus Prime die. It was cold.

I was like, oh, been there, done that. It's cold

hearts by that point. For the record, though,

only three people had him in the top 25 that

voted. It was just the number of people that

had Optimus Prime on their list that gets him

up this high. So, yeah, number 23 was Optimus

Prime. Let's go a completely different direction

to our number 22. I guess we can re -engage the

debate on whether certain characters should be

paired together or not, because we have a pairing

here at number 22. Let's go back to 1991. And

let's talk about Ren and Stimpy at our number

22 spot. Dan, you just missed this one. You had

it at 29, and it comes in at 22. Why are Ren

and Stimpy worthy of being in the top 25? Man,

because of what they were able to get away with

in a kid's cartoon. I mean, the fact that I watched

that as a child is still amazing to me. But Ren

and Stimpy are interesting. weird duo like i

can't believe that they exist in a lot of ways

there's really been no one like them since then

or no one like them before them they're kind

of like the odd couple on crack in a way yeah

and then kind of yeah and and then dog and cat

form so uh you know rent obviously uh stimpy

is that lovable kind of goofball and rent is

just the evil chihuahua who barks at everything

but i don't know they're they're just i know

a lot of people don't like running sympathy and

i get that because it's it is a specific type

of humor but for those that do and they were

they were pretty huge in their day and i know

they've had some some revivals here and there

they i think they had a show on spike in the

early 2000s that didn't last for a great deal

but i don't know i think that just they're ability

to stand out compared to all other animated characters

made them worthy of this list and i obviously

had them a little lower than this but i'm actually

kind of really surprised to see them i got i

at this point i just assumed they wouldn't be

on here yeah and it's another thing with a character

like that you might think that you know it doesn't

work for a certain number of people or it's it's

not one of the characters that has the staying

power as far as that you know they've been on

tv or they've been in you know the the media

presence for you know decades or you know like

Optimus Prime just we talked about he's been

you know basically going for 30 plus years so

you I think when you don't have that you kind

of risk being missed in a certain way but like

you said they're so unique and they still stand

out when you think of all their animated characters

that maybe that helped him out we had a number

of people that had it pretty close I had Ren

and Stimpy at number 20 Amanda you had them at

18 Dan like I said had 29 TV's Mr. Neal 18 Sketch

25 so we had a lot of them in this range nobody

had them higher than 18. So I don't know, nobody

thought that they were top 10 worthy or top 15

worthy, but that kind of fell where a lot of

people put them. Amanda, you were the highest

ranker of Ren and Stimpy, so where do you think,

as far as them showing up here in the top 25,

surprised to see them? No, I love Ren and Stimpy.

I think that... They're memorable for me, you

know what I mean? I had a lot of exposure to

Ren and Stimpy. It's probably as awful as that

is, because looking back at the things that I

watched as a kid, watching Ren and Stimpy, I'm

still like, why was I not more disturbed by this?

I distinctly remember some episodes of some serious,

nasty stuff going on, and I think that... They

were just so weird and so odd and they could

get away with so much. They were just fascinating

and amazing and grotesque all in the same swoop.

And you gotta love them. If you were growing

up when Ren and Stimpy was airing, there is no

way that you went to school and did not hear

at least one person imitating... lines or quoting

or trying to mimic the voices of Ren and Stimpy.

That was just a thing that you would expect to

happen. DJ, what do you think about Ren and Stimpy

showing up here in the top 100? I mean, they

should be in the top 100 for Happy Happy Joy

Joy and the log song alone. I mean, I had to

do, when I was in film school. They had us pitch

ideas for our final project. And what they wanted

to do was distract us as we're pitching. And

my professor played the log song in the background

to distract our pitch. And I was like, fuck.

Because if you start singing, if you hear the

log song, you can't stop singing it. It's like

the song that doesn't end kind of song. I think

they're just groundbreaking. And, I mean, Dan's

right. They got away with it. If you watch Ren

and Snippy now, it's still kind of like. Are

you allowed to play this on TV? They were in

the way with some craziness on that show. And

this was what? This was in 95? I can't even remember.

The first time they appeared was 91. I don't

know if that's when the series proper started.

They came off and they went back. I think they

went to Nickelodeon from MTV. Yeah, yeah. I think

they're groundbreaking. This is higher than I

expected them to be, but I'm not going to complain

because I love Ren and Snippy. Sketch, what are

your thoughts on Ren and Snippy? When I was growing

up, I was a bit sheltered, so my parents wouldn't

let me watch Ren and Stimpy, but I would go over

to Grandma and Grandpa's house, and they loved

Ren and Stimpy. So they hold a very special place

in my heart for that reason, because my grandmother

still loves Ren and Stimpy. We occasionally watch

the DVDs. But Ren and Stimpy is hilarious. It

is brilliant. Yes, it's a lot of potty humor,

but it's so clever. It's so amazingly detailed

when they do those grotesque shots. There's been

so many imitators over the years. Even though

there's nobody quite like Ren and Stimpy, there's

definitely been many, many shows that tried to

recreate this formula. Well, look at you, cow

and chicken. Yeah, yeah. But I like that show.

Ren and Stimpy. absolutely belongs in the top

25. It's a marvelous show, a marvelous pairing,

and so groundbreaking and iconic that you can't

argue against Ren and Snippy being at least in

the top 30. Did you hear that, TFG1 Mike? You

cannot argue against Ren and Stimpy. He doesn't

like Ren and Stimpy. He hates Ren and Stimpy.

All right. Moving on to our next group. I say

group because we have another tie come up here

for the next spot. So we'll go with the loser

of that tie, 21. First, we only had four Disney

characters that were not Disney movie characters

primarily. We're going to add to that group here

with our number 21 selection. Going back to his

first appearance in a 1932 short, we're talking

now about Goofy. Goofy at number 21. Who wants

to start with Goofy? Let's start with Amanda.

What? Go ahead. Hold up. 21? Goofy is not in

the top 10? 21. Lost points for Goof Troop. That

knocked me down a little bit. Oh, man. Come on.

So clearly, Sketch had Goofy ranked higher than

anybody. Sketch, you're actually the only person

that had Goofy in the top 10. Oh, it's heartbreaking.

I was next. I had him at 15. Everybody else was

24 or higher. So we'll let you start. Why does

Goofy deserve to be higher, in your opinion?

Goofy, I don't know. is like the number one slapstick

cartoon character aside from maybe wily coyote

who has to have roadrunner for that whole bit

or like somebody else to work off of but goofy

all of his cartoons where he's singularly the

only character there maybe a narrator he's he

steals the show every time he's absolutely hilarious

he works in so many scenarios and then you have

goof troop and the goofy movie and you give him

kind of an emotional arc trying to be a good

dad and there's so many additional layers to

goofy now but above all of that he's just a solid

well -drawn flexible cartoon character who's

tremendously iconic and i can't believe that

he's not at least in the top 15 like i really

just don't give a crap about goofy I never really

was like, oh, fucking Goofy. I'm going to watch

Goofy. Like, he wasn't my go -to. Like, it wasn't

like, oh, I just want to, like, get a bunch of

Goofy memorabilia and, like, wear a fucking Goofy

sweater. And I was just never on board with Goofy.

What do you say you had to obsess with him? I

was never really entertained by him. And I think,

like, the Goofy movies kind of came out, like,

at a time where it just didn't hit home with

me either. And I just never really cared about

him. Goofy was a good dad. It was. Sketch, as

soon as you said he's trying to be a good dad,

all I heard in my head was just the two of us,

like, the entire rest of the time you were talking.

Six people left Goofy off of the top 100 completely.

What? So, DJ, what do you think of that? I can't

understand. I don't know what I don't understand

more, how Goofy had sex or that. And Goofy's

a dog, but one has clothes and the other's a

dog. I don't understand. Something's inconsistent

about Goofy. I don't know if it's more of the

sex or the fact that he's anthropomorphic in

a different way than Pluto is. I don't know.

I've never been a huge Goofy fan. You don't know.

Pluto might be getting mad, but, dude, he is

probably, like, getting all the bitches. Apparently.

And you don't know. He's literally getting all

the bitches. Where are we going with this? I

don't know. At least two. He's like seasoning.

He just went a little bit of him. I never really

go, I can't wait to watch this Goofy -centric

episode. I like it when Goofy's interacting with

the rest of the Disney crew. I'm not a huge Goofy

fan. I know the genie likes him, but that's about

it. I'm not a huge fan. The thing that I always

appreciated about Goofy, because I did, growing

up, I did watch a lot of... You know, the shorts

and that type of stuff. Sex. No. He kind of represented

a personality trait or set of personality traits

that you didn't see a lot at that time. I almost

kind of put him in the same group as almost like

an Eeyore or something like that where... You

just kind of had that character that screamed

for sympathy or empathy. You felt for Goofy.

You felt bad for him. They did a really good

job of... and displaying his emotional state,

I think, in a better way than we saw with some

of the other, especially if we're just talking

about Disney characters. I felt more of the emotion

from Goofy than I felt any of the other Disney

characters. So I do give him credit for that.

Because he's a basket case. But it's just the

way, like some of these characters, and we'll

have to see which ones are. made the top 100

which ones didn't etc but some of the characters

to me are a little bit more thin and with goofy

i at least felt i wasn't like a huge goofy fan

but i at least felt what they were trying to

emote with him more than i did with some of those

other ones so that's why i had him up in the

15 range dan what are your thoughts on goofy

you love hate in the middle what do you think

i i don't know i mean i love them as a kid for

sure i mean i did watch The Goof Troop enjoyed

that. And younger than that, I did watch some

of those shorts with him and found it funny,

obviously, because he's certainly directed towards

kids. I think that's his design and his purpose.

And I think we did see some more rounding out

when he got into the Goof Troop and the very

goofy movie where you added a little bit more

of the father dimension, like you mentioned,

and seeing him as a dad, which was kind of weird.

since he was kind of just a slapstick character

beforehand. I think he certainly... His iconic

nature does make him deserving for this list.

I think he should obviously be in the top 100,

top 50, top 25, I think is legitimate. Because

if you look at just kind of the Matt Rushmore

of Disney characters, I would say he's on there

for sure. The ones that helped build up their

world of animation, he's a big part of that.

So because of that, I think he's deserving. And

obviously, you know, he's got those infamous

hats that we all know and well that I'm sure

Disney's made. billions of dollars off of um

so i mean personally he's never was one of my

favorite characters to go to but i do think if

you just look at his legacy as a character and

his effectiveness to make people laugh which

is kind of what he was designed to do uh i do

think he is deserving of where he's at He's been

in more shorts, movies, television shows, games,

etc. than any other character we've talked about

thus far in the countdown, somewhere around the

75 range. And that's grouping the theatrical

shorts together as one. So 75 different movies,

TV shows, etc. So a big presence, obviously,

for a long time for Goofy coming in at our number

21 spot. Tied with Goofy, but winning in the

tiebreaker. We got an interesting reaction when

Goofy's name was mentioned. Let's see what happens

when we mention the next entrant who was on five

people's top ten. Number 20, Rocky and Bullwinkle.

So going back to the 1959 television show, obviously

famously voiced by June Foray and Bill Scott.

Jay Ward Productions here, Rocky and Bullwinkle

on five people's top ten. Sketch, are you starting

to sweat here? This is your second in a row falling

off of your top ten. You had Goofy at number

six. You had Rocky and Bullwinkle at number eight.

I think that's a crying shame. Rocky and Bullwinkle,

such pioneers, such a great duo. Before Ren and

Stimpy, before so many others, before Pinky and

the Brain. Rocky and Bullwinkle set the stage

for this kind of duo comedy, and they're great

characters by themselves. So I'm a little disappointed,

but I'm glad that they're at least in the top

20. Yeah, I had Rocky and Bullwinkle at number

7. TV's Mr. Neal had them at number 3. David

had them at 7. Sketch, you had it at 8, like

I mentioned. One other person had them at 11.

Amanda, Rocky and Bullwinkle... Not on your radar,

but do you like them as characters or did you

never really get exposed to them? I actually

watched a lot of Rocky and Bowie when I was little.

My stepdad loved them for whatever reason. And

I loved the show with all the different, like

all the little sketches, right? Other little

storylines are always happening. I thought it

was super cute, definitely from when I was really

young. I think that I had some other characters.

I just kind of boot them out. But I never really

forget about Rocky and Bullwinkle. You guys are

my boys, even though you didn't make my list.

We're still homies. Definitely iconic, as Sketch

said. DJ, what are your thoughts on Rocky and

Bullwinkle appearing here in the top 25? I love

Rocky and Bullwinkle. I mean, I'm a huge fan

of puns. I like the narrator almost equally of

Rocky and Bullwinkle. That's because at the end

of every episode, he'll have two. titles for

the next episode. I just love that whole dynamic

of that show. Again, way ahead of its time. Way

ahead of its time, though, you know, I'm a fan

of, you know, Rodney Dangerfield, so that kind

of humor where it's just the quick, easy pun

joke, which they do, like, very well, and then

you have, like, the storyline episodes, then

you have the boo -winkle -doo -wing magic trick,

all that stuff, I can dig. But, I mean... This

is pretty high for them, I think. I mean, if

we're looking at it analytically, I don't know

if they're going to be, they should be higher

than, you know, even Belle or something like

that or Optimus Prime. I'm glad they're here.

I love those characters, but this is pretty high

for Rocky and Bullwinkle. Dan, they mentioned,

as far as a duo goes, pretty iconic. We've already

seen another duo just a couple spots away with

Ren and Stimpy. Are Rocky and Bullwinkle one

of the best pairings of two animated characters

that we've ever gotten? I would say so, definitely.

I mean, they, unlike, I think there's no question

that they go hand in hand. It is also just a

most random combination. It's like, we're going

to pair up a moose and a flying squirrel. And

it's going to work. And it's going to work. Last

time you remember, Bullwick would try out his

ultra -sultry look on a couple of young ladies

who promptly fainted dead away. Bullwinkle didn't

know that the girls had really fainted because

they saw a mouse. Yeah, now he's convinced he's

the greatest actor in the world. Oh, I am not.

You're not? I'm just one of the greatest. But

you can't go to Hollywood, Bullwinkle. I don't

want to go rock, but they need me. You ought

to be in pitches. Oh, isn't that terrible? You

were born to be kissed. Come on now, Bullwinkle,

you're not. Just watch me. And snatching up a

mattress full of money earned from his paper

route, the movie -struck moose had left the cottage.

Wait up, Bullwinkle. You're my buddy. I gotta

go along with you. Yeah, no bless, no please,

eh, Rock? What's that mean? I don't know. I just

made it up. Now our boys are on the way to California,

unaware that Bullwinkle's mattress full of money

is the target of two pairs of sinister eyes belonging

to... Oh, no, it isn't. Oh, it can't be. Say

the name. Boris and Natasha. Ta -da! Then we

steal mattress, Boris. Somebody was playing a

song in the background at that pitch and everybody

was distracted. Yeah. The song went... They're

just, I don't know, they're very lovable. And,

you know, Bullwinkle is certainly... you know

the the goofball and rocky is the one that's

kind of saving the day and i think they have

a really good dynamic back and forth so i definitely

think they're deserving and just hearing them

come now makes me kind of realize that there

are a lot of like you know boris and tasha aren't

going to make this list which is kind of a crying

shame um because i think they're just as equal

uh of great characters that that that are deserving

so um but i guess it's good to see at least some

classic characters make the top 25 because i

was worried that we wouldn't get anything pre

-90s so that's good Yeah, a couple in a row here

with Goofy and Rocky and Bullwinkle, and maybe

a good versus bad bias if we do not see Boris

and Natasha the rest of the way. We'll have to

wait and see. So now we're into the range here

with Rocky and Bullwinkle taking that 20 spot.

We're into the top 20 here. 19. Let's go to number

19. Let's put another check into the adult primetime

animated cartoon section with none other than

our first character from this specific show,

number 19. Bart Simpson. We're talking about

iconic characters. Obviously, we're putting him

in the group here as one of the most iconic characters

of all time. First appearing in 1987, voiced

by Nancy Cartwright, one of the most iconic voices

of my childhood, probably. Showed up on all the

lists except for five. Five people could not

find room for Bart Simpson in their top 100.

Amanda. You barely found room for Bart Simpson,

putting him in at number 98, but he did make

your list. So what do you think? Is Bart Simpson

top 20 worthy? I did not realize that Bart Simpson

and I were the same age. A little funny. But

I like Simpsons. I kind of wish that my family

would have sat down and watched Simpsons together

or something like that, and then maybe I would

have liked, you know. to spend a little bit more

time with him or something. I just never really

caught it. Isn't it odd, like, 6 o 'clock at

night on Fox or something like that? Like, I

don't think I was allowed to watch TV during

that time, so maybe I just missed out on that

primetime action. I've seen, you know, quite

a bit of Simpsons, though, on my own, and I can

definitely see why he's up this high. But, yeah,

not one of my faves. Okay. Sketch, you had him

pretty close. 19, you had him at 26. So what

do you think of Bart Simpson being in our top

20? I think he should be in the top 20, regardless

of what you think of him as a character. He's

too tremendously iconic not to have in your top

100 list. Bart's an entertaining character. He's

fairly one -note every now and then. They keep

doing the same kind of thing with Bart, and it's

frustrating because it's always like, oh, Bart

did something bad, and now he feels bad about

it, and he wants to redeem himself. Yeah. They

repeat that constantly ever since, like, the

Christmas episode however many years ago. But

he's also very entertaining in his own rights

and a huge icon. I'm not a Simpsons aficionado,

but I... Am I right to say that he's probably

the reason, at least in the early on part of

that show, as far as why that show was successful?

I know a lot of people might lean to other characters

as that show progressed, but he was kind of the

selling point to me, if I'm remembering right,

at the beginning of when that show was kind of

up and coming. DJ, what do you think of Bart

Simpson? I mean, you guys are right. He's iconic.

I mean, who here didn't? Well, maybe I'm very

old. I know everybody in my middle school had

a Bart Simpson T -shirt or a Bart Simpson lunchbox

or Bart Simpson, whatever. He might be the most

marketable. uh fictional character fox has ever

had and it's funny because as i got older i don't

know if it was just me or maybe everybody felt

this way he started to get overshadowed by another

character on that show which i don't think that

was the intention but at the beginning it was

all bart it was just following he he was the

character you followed uh and i i kind of ran

out of simpsons steam years back but the show's

been on for like 45 so uh I can understand Bart

being this high. I'm surprised he's not higher

because of just the impact that character had

on, you know, pop culture. Because he was literally

everywhere. He's in movies. He's referenced in

movies. South Park is making episode crossovers

to just make fun of him. I mean, Bart is a big

deal. Yeah, I'm surprised he's not a little bit

higher, too, especially with the number of 90s

characters that we've seen that have really rose

up on the rankings here. And, I mean, obviously

he's been on for decades and decades, but probably

if you're tracing him back, you think mainly

of him as a 90s character. Dan, you had Bart

Simpson in your top 10. Are you sad that he's

fallen down to the number 19 spot? No, I think

that's fine. I struggled where to kind of rank

him, and I think where I ended up ranking him

was... large part because he was the focal point

of the Simpsons first success like you mentioned

like when that first show took off it was on

the success of his character he was kind of the

what they used for marketing he's kind of what

he directed what people directed the show towards

was Bart Simpson and he was this like rebel kid

who would do crazy things and things like that

and say you know had how many sayings like you

know don't have a cow man and stuff like that

like which which are kind of lame today, but

I guess when that came out, we're a big deal.

Think of all the Bart Simpsons dolls and things

like that. Those Pizza Hut rubber puppets? Butterfingers.

Butterfinger candy bars. He was the cool kid

everyone wanted to be. As DJ mentioned, everyone

had his t -shirt. So he owned the 90s. And yeah,

as that show evolved, it certainly opened the

door to different characters. And I think in

a way kind of shifted focus as the show just

kind of found new ground and things of that nature.

But because of that, and look at what The Simpsons

led to. going forward and you can certainly see

the influence of bart simpson a lot of other

characters as well so i think he's certainly

deserving i think he this is a fine spot for

him so it works i don't know of anybody that

uh that ever you know before you knew that when

you saw the voice of bart simpson and see and

hear that voice coming out of nancy cartwright

that's just It was always one of the biggest

shocks to me early on. The characters from The

Boondocks was the only other one. I think it's,

what's her name? Southland, I think. I can't

remember her name. Regina King. When I heard

Regina King do that, but it reminded me of when

I first saw Nancy Cartwright do Bart Simpson.

I was like, wait, Bart Simpson's a woman? Yeah,

for sure. Dan, any last thoughts on Bart Simpson,

but surprised that it took to number 19 to get

our first Simpsons character? Yeah, that is kind

of a crying shame a little bit because there

are a lot of great Simpsons characters that kind

of deserve to be on this list, but... Again,

there's a lot of great characters probably much

in every show that we're going to talk about

or every movie we talk about going forward that

aren't making less of that shit. It's just, you

know, 100 sounds like a lot, but when you expand

it, it isn't. Yeah, for sure. 18. All right,

let's get to our number 18. Let's go back to

the wonderful world of Disney, but let's go to

kind of like a subsection, I always think of

it, of Disney that we haven't gone to yet. And

that would be... to the world of Winnie the Pooh,

with Winnie the Pooh himself at number 18. Obviously

first appeared in a 1926 book, actually. Been

around for a long time. Obviously currently most

people know him as the voice, being voiced by

Jim Cummings. But Winnie the Pooh, we haven't

had any characters from that world. Amanda, what

do you think of Winnie the Pooh coming in at

number 18? I'm glad that he's in the top 20.

I think that he's been around a long time, and

I think that he's crazy iconic. Who doesn't know

who the hell Winnie the Pooh is, or any of Winnie's

friends? I think you can name all of Winnie the

Pooh's friends, and they all center around Winnie

himself. And I think what Winnie meant to Christopher

and all of his friends really made him a good

character for us. very early on i think winnie

the pooh is somebody we like as a very young

child it's somebody that you can introduce your

um little ones to early on and they'll learn

some great lessons and i think that winnie is

something that's that represents goodness and

like the best of being a child in a sense, and

I'm glad that he made the top 20. He made it

all the way up to number four on one of the lists

that was submitted. That's the highest that he

was ranked. Sketch, what do you think of Winnie

the Pooh coming into the top 20? Were you expecting

this, or had we forgotten about the Winnie the

Pooh characters? I was expecting Pooh to make

it into the top 25. Okay. I think Winnie the

Pooh, even though there's certainly huge fans

of Tigger, and some of the other characters.

Winnie the Pooh is the driving force of that

show, of those shorts, of those movies, except

for the Tigger movie. But Winnie the Pooh, he's

just a delightful guy. He's kind of bumbling,

not super bright, always well -meaning. He's

just a great, fun character. that is perfect

for for young ones growing up to to introduce

this warm cuddly character that can teach good

life lessons without being really heavy -handed

i think i think winnie the pooh is well deserving

of being on this list all right another person

that had him highly ranked dan you had him in

your top 10 as well so what do you think of winnie

the pooh coming in here at number 18 I was worried

that he wasn't going to make the list as we're

going down. I'm like, is he going to make it?

He is not a type of character that maybe could

exist in a very cynical world in a way. He dares

to be just a very sweet character, which is not

super common. I mean, you can't really get that

much different when you look at Park Simpson

versus Winnie the Pooh. I couldn't imagine them

having it. I can't imagine them having a conversation.

They both wear red shirts. They both wear red

shirts. Maybe they're the yin and yang of each

other. Who knows? Who knows? But I love Winnie

the Pooh. He's just a very lovable character.

He's kind of a goofball, obviously. He does some

stupid things, but I don't know. He's certainly

been one of the most important animated characters

of all time, so he certainly belongs on this

list. Some could argue, obviously, Like we mentioned,

Tigger, Eeyore, maybe even those that eat themselves

that love... Oh, who's the rabbit, dude? Rabbit?

Rabbit, I think. Rabbit, there you go. An owl.

A little piglet. I think the biggest competition

is probably Tigger. Yes. Easily. Yeah. Easily.

You got to move. You got to move. I love what

he's doing. I'm glad he's here. DJ, are you a

Tigger fan or a Winnie the Pooh fan? I'm a Tigger

fan. But again, Winnie Pooh, the diabetic bear

with an eating disorder. I was introduced to

him through book form because I didn't have the

Disney Channel. Apparently, back in the day,

kids, you could only watch Disney cartoons on

the Disney Channel. Unless you robbed some kind

of video store or something. I used to read the

books and I was like, oh, Winnie the Pooh. Very,

very cute in book form. And then when I got older,

I got to Winnie the Pooh. But by then, I was

already into Tigger and Eeyore. But you guys

are right. Winnie the Pooh is the central character

of that story. You need him. That thing doesn't

work without him there. Even the Tigger movie,

as much as I'm a Tigger fan, I think... It's

almost like the Cars movie when you don't have

Lightning McQueen as a star. It doesn't feel

right. So, yeah, I mean, Winnie the Pooh, this

is super high for him, I think. For me, again,

I didn't grow up on him as everybody else did,

but I didn't think he would be anywhere. Once

we were getting to 25, I was like, well, he's

not going to be in the top 25. And holy crap,

he is. So it's surprising to me. Yeah, a lot

of people, the rankings for Winnie the Pooh were

all over the board because we had a couple people

who had him in the 60s. I had him 45. We had

three people who had him in the 30s and three

people in the top 10. So, I mean, it was all

over the map when it came to Winnie the Pooh

as far as where people ranked him. But enough

people had him on the list somewhere for him

to show up at number 18. 17. Number 17, we've

already talked about this company once, so let's

just confirm whether the order is right or not.

Number 17, let's go back to Pixar, and this time

we'll talk about Woody. Amanda, we already saw

Wally, now we see Woody. What do you think? So

glad Woody is up here. I think he could have

been higher, though, in my book, honestly. I

think that he is so much fun. He does a lot.

as a character. I think that he also has, like,

a great arc, and I think he continues to grow

throughout the three movies. Yee -haw! It's you!

It's you! It's you, it's you, it's you! It's

really you! That's me. There's a snake in my

boat. Ha! It is you! Please stop saying that.

it's a box he's mint in the box never been opened

turn me around bullseye so i can see why the

prodigal son has returned i think that he changes

in a lot of ways and i think that he does stay

true to his His core beliefs, though, too, and

his love for Andy. And I think that makes him

super genuine, even though he pulls some shitey

shit a couple times. He's still, you know, down

for Andy and down for his friends and has a lot

of heart. And we can learn a lot of great lessons

from him, like sharing and how you don't have

to be the center of attention. And I don't know,

a lot of things. I love him. Dan, when we did

our top 100 animated movies, obviously Toy Story

reigned supreme, so does it make sense that the

leading character from that movie franchise is

in our top 20, or are you surprised that he's

not even higher? I'm a little surprised. I was

thinking he was probably going to be in the top

10, considering all the love Pixar has gotten

up to this point. I would think that... he would

be a little bit higher. I think he's the heart

and soul of both Toy Story and I think Pixar

as a whole. He probably, like, looking at the

progression of his character from the beginning

of the first Toy Story movie to the last Toy

Story 3, it's pretty incredible. The new and...

ways they would find for him to kind of grow

and affect those around him he does some really

shady things especially in the first one and

sometimes by accident but i don't know i think

he's a great character and when you have the

voice of tom makes behind you it's kind of impossible

not to fall in love with that character so i

would i would think he maybe deserves to be a

little higher but i'm not surprised that he's

made it this this far Sketch, I know we've had

this debate a little bit before, but when it

comes to just within Toy Story in general, we

talked a little bit about when Buzz came up,

if you were a Buzz fan or a Woody fan. Now you,

just to take one person for example, had Buzz

on your top 100 but did not have Woody. So do

you think Buzz is more worthy of this spot or

does Woody deserve some love as well? In retrospect,

no, I should have had Woody on my list at least

somewhere. Because Woody is... The central component

of all three of those movies. Whereas Buzz is

really the central component of the first one.

And then he's more of a sad character. He's arguably

the more popular, more iconic one. But if you're

going by quality of character. Woody beats out

Buzz. Big time. Woody has a total character arc

over all three of those movies. Where he starts

out as the... By the book's guy. Everything's

got to be just as it needs to be. And he does

that all out of love and compassion. And you

see how passion can go wrong. And then in the

second movie, he has another character whose

passion goes wrong on him. And he can see what

kind of horrible things he did to... buzz in

particular but another toys along the way and

he's also just that stern leader that that keeps

them together through all of the craziness that

happens over those three movies so yeah i think

woody should be on this list and my apologies

for not including you diverted some hate i guess

or some uh accusations on the website at least

um dj Should we see any other Pixar characters?

I think this has to be, though we've seen some

weird things, this has to be the end of Pixar's

run because I just can't name a better Pixar

character. I think Dan nailed it when he said

he's central to Toy Story and he's central to

Pixar. He is their hood ornament, for Christ's

sake. There's nobody who you're going to come

at me with. that I think is more deserving than

Woody as a Pixar character. So if we see another

one, I'm going to be like, well, who are you

going to give me? You're going to give me, you

know, again, Frozone. I have no idea who's going

to come out of the left field to topple Woody.

I think, again, he should probably be higher

just because Toy Story was such a revolutionary

movie, and he is the essential thing, too, with

him in Buzz. So, yeah, I think it's hopefully.

If this is the case, this will be the end of

Pixar's run. But, again, if I see Lightning McQueen

or Maynard or anything like that, I'm going to

freak out. Mike Wazowski. Mike Wazowski is going

to come in there. Sully is going to come in.

Never know. Maybe we paired them together and

they got bonus points. I'm not sure. 16. All

right. Let's go to number 16. We've revealed

84 spots and only two. classic hannah barbara

characters up until this point so we're going

to get our third hannah barbara character coming

in at number 16 also another duo so we'll have

to see a little bit about the discussion as far

as duos go and which one should be the highest

rate because we had ren and stimpy we had rocky

and bullwinkle for number 16 let's go to tom

and jerry originating in the 1940s short also

more characters that 99 of the time Do not have

voice work attributed to them. Tom and Jerry

at number 16. Dan, you haven't talked for a little

bit. You had them a little bit lower down in

the upper 30s. So what do you think about Tom

and Jerry? Maybe in relation to them as a duo

outranking Rocky and Bullwinkle and Ren and Snippy.

That's a good question. I don't know about that.

Just by design, they're a little bit more limited

in their role. Obviously, they're kind of the

same joke over and over again, but it's a well

-done joke, like we talked about with Wile E.

Coyote and Roadrunner. And I kind of think if

we paired those two together, I probably would

have put them, I don't know. Tom and Jerry, it's

just really well -done slapstick humor. But I

would say, I think Rocky and Bullwinkle and Ren

and Snippy. to me, are better as a duo. There's

more to latch on to. So while Tom and Jerry certainly

are important and have their place, I think it

might be a little high for me. But again, I'm

glad at least we're getting some Hanna -Barbera

love since we had very little. Yeah, that's for

sure. Sketch, maybe you're going to give us the

other side of the coin because you had Tom and

Jerry at number three. So what do you think of

what Dan was saying as far as their rankings

as the pairs go? Tom and Jerry are such pioneers

in slapstick animation. And they're intricate

pairing. You can't have Tom and Jerry separate,

really. You gotta have them for the whole thing.

And Tom and Jerry has had so many reboots, reincarnations,

just... mind -blowing amounts of stuff of Tom

and Jerry I think there's maybe Scooby -Doo has

had more but other than that Tom and Jerry they

just keep redoing that because it's a good idea

and it's never a bad idea and that is why Tom

and Jerry should at least be in the top 10. All

right. We'll have to see if there's agreement

or not. I also had them in the top ten. I had

them at number nine. You had them at three. Like

I said, David had them at number three. Our representative

from behind the voice actors had them at number

11. Amanda, no Tom and Jerry love for you? Just

something that's too old and, like Dan said,

maybe a little bit too one -note for you? Or

what do you think of Tom and Jerry? Yeah, I never

really sought out Tom and Jerry. I wasn't super

big on them when I was little, maybe because

they didn't talk and I needed more to stay entertained.

I don't know what that deal was, but it might

have been a little bit before my time as well.

I think it was just a number of factors that

really just didn't draw me to Tom and Jerry.

All right. DJ, I'll ask you a question similar

to what I did with Woody. I talked about if there

would be any other Pixar characters. Do we have

any other duos without mentioning them? Can you

think of any other duos that we would still see?

Or is Tom and Jerry the top of the mountain?

Unless you're going to do Fred and Barney, I

don't see how this is happening. I think they

might be the best. I mean, I grew up on Tom and

Jerry. Racist mammy aside, I love Tom and Jerry.

The sketch was talking about incarnations. Tom

and Jerry does not work when they're friends.

Tom and Jerry works when they're trying. to kill

each other and no, I'm not using hyperbole when

I mean trying to murder each other viciously.

And anybody, anytime anybody ever tells me, well,

these cartoons are so violent. I go, go back

and watch Tom and fucking Jerry. That is a violent

cartoon. I mean, it was so violent. The Simpsons

ripped it off and use itchy and scratchy. That's

what they're basing it off of. That's the show.

That's the proof how crazy Tom and Jerry was.

And sometimes Tom and Jerry is more. violent

than Itchy and Scratchy. And they smoked and

shit. Yeah, they're fighting Nazis, for Christ's

sake. Not that Jerry's like, it's super, super,

you know, just dark at points. But I think this

is probably the best duo I can think of off the

top of my head. So no, definitely I don't think

we're going to have another one from Hanna -Barbera.

Yeah, and Tom and Jerry has, to be fair, they've

been under different company banners since they've

been around for so long, but we're putting them

in with the hand of our Barrett group here. Going

to our number 15 may spark up a debate that we've

had a few times here on the countdown, but not

a lot. We've only had a couple times where this

came up. Number 15. Let's get the hate mail going

for why we're including these guys. But let's

go back to the world of Muppets. And number 15,

Kermit the Frog. I'll start because I have Kermit

the Frog listed number one on my list. And I

guess because if I'm including them in, if we're

past that point, like if we decide whether they're

included or not, if you are including them, to

me, he rises all the way up to number one. I

think he's a... more has more levels to him than

maybe some of the other characters that may still

come up in the countdown and for technical purposes

he has been animated four different times so

um he was animated in cartoon all -stars to the

rescue little muppet monsters muppet babies and

of course family guy i don't know if that's enough

to to make anybody believe that he deserves to

be in this countdown or not but hey We've ranked

three Muppets so far. We've had Elmo. We've had

Big Bird. Kermit the Frog is the top of the heat

for Muppets. I mean, he's the best Muppet character

that's ever been. So if we're going to include

him, I guess he deserves to be here. But I will

let the panel argue counter possibly. So, Sketch,

what are your thoughts on Kermit the Frog? If

you're going to include Muppets, Kermit the Frog

is in the top ten. He's the only Muppet. He's

the only Muppet. Yeah, I would even go as far

as that. Kermit the Frog, cream of the crop,

without question. He's so versatile. He's been

in so many things. He means so much to so many

people. He's so iconic. And he was voiced by

Jim Henson himself. DJ, bounce off that a little

bit. I mean, besides the Muppet debate, I guess,

does he deserve, if we're talking about these

types of characters, if we're kind of count those

four animated appearances, does he deserve to

be this high? I hate Elmo. Big Bird's kind of

androgynous. Kermit the Frog is the only puppet

that should be on this list. He is the only person

that comes close to Kermit the Frog is Fozzie

or Miss Piggy. And they're distant. distant second

because kermit has been doing it on sesame street

his own movies animated he is the center memphis

take manhattan uh the great muppet caper all

that stuff if you're gonna use a puppet and it's

gonna be a muppet it's gotta be kermit the frog

i i i when you told me that you're putting when

i heard the first couple of uh shows you guys

did and i heard elmo elmo I hate him. But if

your animal's not in here, Kermit the Frog must

be in the top 10. At least top 25, and he is.

So, yes, Kermit deserves to be here, and no one,

no one should be higher than him. All right,

Amanda, do you expect to see Miss Piggy or Fozzie

or any of these other Muppet characters? Not

after Kermit's falling right here. I don't think

so. A little sad because I think that if we were

going to add Muppets, Fozzie and Miss Piggy should

have been on there. I like Gonzo. Or Gonzo, yeah.

Muppets from Space is my shit. Kermit's not my

favorite. Muppet, just because I like a couple

of the other quirkier ones, like Pepe the Shrimp

is probably my jam. Sweetest Chef, you know.

But I think as far as how iconic he is, and one

of the best meme subjects ever. Just put that

out there. Him and Joe Biden, it's like one and

two. Michael Jordan, Kermit the Frog, Joe Biden.

Dan, in all honesty, If what these guys are saying,

if he's the top and the cream of the crop, that

means that we've only included three. So it's

not like a lot of other animated characters lost

slots. Does that make it better, or are we just

stupid for including Muppets altogether? I mix

it up for a fun debate, so there you go. I think

that's at least the benefit of it. I think there's

no question that Kermit the Frog is one of the

best characters ever created, period. Look at

the amount of movies he's been in, TV shows.

He has huge influence and still does today. Rainbow

Connection is just a great song to begin with.

He's just... I don't know. There's something

about him that you just automatically want to

root for him. He's just the ultimate hero character

in a way. He's certainly deserving of really...

If you're doing a list of characters... And he

belongs, and I'm glad he's number one of all

the Muppets. Maybe I'm making a bad gambit, but

gamble, I should say. So I think it's good. I

mean, I think maybe if we squared away the Muppet

debate beforehand, maybe he'd be higher, but

at least he is where he is. All right, so we'll

let the listeners chime in on that and be angry

or happy. It seemed like a couple times checking

into the website that it was maybe 50 -50 as

far as people that thought we should, thought

we shouldn't. Maybe it's changed since then,

but... Let's move on to, we're in our top 15

now. Our number 14, we should also do separate

lists of all different types of animals. What's

your best, you know, cat, dog, mouse, bear, whatever

it is. Number 14, let's go right back to Hanna

-Barbera and add another one into their column

with number 14 being... Yogi Bear, obviously

famously voiced by Dawes Butler, one of the best

voice artists of all time, going all the way

back to 1958. Dan, we'll go right back to you,

actually. We've not had a lot of Hanna -Barbera

characters, but is Yogi Bear worthy of being

ahead of the ones that we've already listed?

Thinking of who... Yeah, I think so. I think

if you're looking at Hanna -Barbera, he's in,

like we talked about, I mentioned Matt Rushmore

of Disney characters. I think he's there. You

know, he's certainly one of the most important,

despite the fact that he has an awful movie.

But you can't really hold that against him. So

I think he's certainly hugely important. I mean,

I think everyone knows who Yogi Berra is. Yeah,

that's not the right person. Who he is. Maybe

even though he hasn't had the longevity of some

other characters, his impact was so big at the

time that it continues today. So, yeah. I mean,

who hasn't said picnic basket? Like, you go out

to the park. A picnic basket? Exactly. It's just,

it's still the lexicon of today. I'm going to

bust out of here. How come, Yogi? Every day is

the same old thing. Look at the bears. Look at

the bears. Look at the bears. Sheesh. Hey, Pop.

Look at the bears. Look at the bears! Look at

the bears! See what I mean, Boo -Boo? What you

gonna do about it, Yogi? I am gonna get out of

this park! But how you gonna get past the ranger,

Yogi? I will use strategy, Boo -Boo. Watch this.

I don't think you can say that for a lot of the

other Hanna -Barbera characters, so I think that

makes him deserving. I don't think he's the best

Hanna -Barbera character. I think we'll hopefully

get a couple more before this list is over, but

looking at who we've talked about so far, I would

put him above those. All right, he got all the

way up to number four on TV, Mr. Neal's selection,

so that's the highest he got ranked. He didn't

necessarily get ranked in the top ten a lot,

but... every single person that ranked him outside

of one had him in the top 40 so it was just the

number of people that had him fairly highly ranked

even if it wasn't like you know top five or top

10 a lot of people had him in the top 50 so that's

garnering him a lot of the points this way uh

dj are you a fan of yogi bear and him being in

the top 15 if we're talking all -time characters

i'm thinking uh i'm not against him being on

the list i just more or less would think of him

Though he had cartoons where he was singular,

I just don't think about him without Boo Boo.

I'm thinking he's more of a duo. But, I mean,

again, I can understand it because he did have

many animations where it was just him and then

Boo Boo came along later. But I just think Yogi

hits a stride when he's got his guy next to him,

when he has Boo Boo next to him, which is essentially...

the bear version of Fred and Barney. But I don't

mind Yogi. On this list, the 100, I kind of mind

him this high. I kind of mind him above Woody.

Something about that makes me feel a little,

I mean, and I grew up watching Yogi Bear. Woody

just, to me, should have been higher than him.

Amanda, agree or disagree, what do you think

about Yogi's placement? I totally agree. This

is way too high, especially above Woody. Iconic,

but if Everett Rue is, like, name one of the

most iconic characters ever that's animated,

I wouldn't be like, fucking Yogi Bear, top ten.

All right. What's that language do? I think that

he's a fun character. He's a solid character.

I think he's deserving of the list, but definitely

not up this high. All right, so a lack of love

maybe for Yogi Bear's sketch. Where do you fall

on it? And we had Huckleberry Hound back when

we talked about number 49. Yogi Bear at 14. Is

that the right order between those two? I think

that's the right order between those two. I can't

wrap my brain around people putting Yogi above

Tom and Jerry. I just can't do it, man. I love

Yogi Bear. Yogi Bear is a great character. For

a time, he was Hanna -Barbera's guy. He was everywhere.

Yogi was in all of those spinoffs. So I totally

understand why Yogi Bear is making the top 20.

I think he's a little high. But I can't put him

above Tom and Jerry. I just can't do it. He's

not that much of a character overall. He's kind

of the straight man, but also a bit of a goofball.

like dj said it's essentially the fred and barney

and bears well i think it also opens up a discussion

too because when you're doing this type of thing

when you're thinking of these characters from

whether it's companies or franchises or different

things like that i think dan's right in one way

where he says you know yogi bear would be on

the mount rushmore of hannah barbara characters

he is probably the most iconic character from

hannah barbara But do you go based on that, or

do you go if you start digging a little bit deeper

into the actual characters and who is the actual

better character? Maybe I'm just a little bit

lower on Yogi Bear. I did rank him. I had him

at number 38. But I would technically put Tom

and Jerry ahead of him. I would even put Huckleberry

Hound actually ahead of Yogi Bear. Bart Simpson

ahead of him? Well, yeah, but I'm just talking

about Hanna -Barbera characters in specific.

I would even put Huckleberry Hound ahead of him

because I think... Huckleberry Hound had a little

bit more depth as a character. Depth may be too

strong of a word there, but a little bit more.

You talk real slow. You talk real slow. But also,

obviously, I don't know. It's a tough debate

between Yogi and Huckleberry Hound, but I do

think Yogi is probably the most iconic Hanna

-Barbera character. So I don't know where he

places exactly might be up for debate, but I

think he's in the discussion at least, and he's

got to be somebody that you can consider. On

our countdown, he comes in at number 14. 13.

Number 13. Make another one for the first time

a show has been mentioned. And that would be

the show South Park. And our number 13 character

would be Eric Cartman. I'll go first and apologize

right off the bat because... My only exposure

to South Park is the South Park movie, which

I love. I've talked about it numerous times.

I rated it very high in the top 100 animated

films of all time, but I've never seen a lot

of the show. I wasn't allowed to watch it growing

up, and I just have never been able to kind of

just delve in, and I should because I know it's

a great show. So for me, trying to rank someone,

I knew South Park was iconic, but for me, I wouldn't

have known which character. to rate. So I will

apologize because Eric Hartman's not on my list

in my top 100. He's the only character we're

talking about today that didn't make my top 100.

So my fault for him not being higher. Don't you

apologize to these motherfuckers that he's not

on your list? No, I'm just saying I understand.

What I'm trying to say is I understand his deserving,

like that he's deserving to be in this discussion.

I was just too ignorant to know which character

I should be rating the highest. Second of all,

you weren't allowed to watch South Park. I wasn't

allowed to watch Beavis the Butthead, but I still...

Watch that shit. Well, I wasn't allowed to it,

but I also wasn't trying. It wasn't one of those

things that I was like fighting against. Like,

I didn't know enough about it. I was just because

I think when you're growing up, especially when

you're young, sometimes you don't necessarily

know. Like, I didn't know how smart it was. I

didn't know how clever it was. All I knew is

a bunch of idiots. And I capital letters, idiots

in my school watch South Park. So I was like,

oh, it must not. You know, it's just about. you

know whatever it's just crass and it's whatever

i hadn't been exposed to it so i prematurely

judged it so that's my excuse but amanda we'll

let you go next you had eric cartman at number

62 he comes in at number 13 what are your thoughts

um i don't know about ranking i think that he's

definitely top 50 worthy i don't know where exactly

in that top 50 really this might be a little

high but at the same time i i can kind of agree

with it because The show is so popular. It's

been going on for so long now. And it is smart.

I think that you don't have to be some crass,

ignorant... I swear to God, half the people in

my high school that were watching this, there's

no way they understood what they were watching.

Oh, no, no, no. Definitely not. But then there

was little geniuses like me watching that shit

every Wednesday, loving it and loving all the

tie -ins to the social climate and all the things

that had to say. about things that were going

on in the world people that i knew about all

the celebrities that were on there it was super

enjoyable and i don't think that there really

is another show like it as much as family guy

has tried um i think that it has so many characters

too that people can like and i even thought about

rating mr hanky the christmas poo on here just

because his song is so amazing and What other

show is going to have an amazing Christmas turd

as a character? But I think that it says a lot.

I think that it's funny, and it goes to some

lengths that other shows wouldn't even touch

with a 10 -foot pole. And they're brave like

that, and they can pull it off every time. I

have a ton of favorite episodes. Episodes that

people wouldn't even think about, like the Pinewood

Derby with Babyfarks McGee's axe when they discover

time warp capabilities and he dresses up like

Princess Leia to go steal a flux capacitor or

whatever he does. Just fun stuff and a ton, a

ton of characters that... have lasted and they

everybody knows their personalities and their

tendencies and everybody can have a favorite

character and a favorite episode and it just

covers such a range that i wish the listeners

could see how how um all the hand motions that

are going behind this like you are passionate

about this i will say that um this the south

park represents also something that was the first

time i ever was really exposed to it and nowadays

it's like a thing because we've seen it a ton

so we might not think about it as much but i

guess like think of like when lost was on TV

and people would actually have parties or have

people over to watch Lost together. South Park

is the first show I can remember that being a

thing for as far as my upbringing and stuff like

that. That's the first time I actually saw people

and heard about people gathering together every

single Wednesday to watch South Park or something

like that. I don't believe anything that you're

talking about when it comes to your town, people

that live there, because there's four people

that live there. And all four of them watched

South Park. Shining on this town, damn. They

all got together. I wasn't there. Dan, you had

this higher than anyone else, but it did, in

all fairness, Eric Cartman did make, well, if

you count one person out of an 11, three people

in the top 10, you had him all the way up at

number two. So is he the most deserving South

Park character? Should we see more South Park

characters, or should we have seen more South

Park characters along the way? We certainly should

have seen more. He's definitely the most deserving.

For me, South Park is by far the best animated

TV show ever created. it's long it has a longevity

it has the impact and its quality has remained

where a show like the simpsons and others and

family guy hasn't i mean it's still like the

the season like the current season that they're

on has been amazing and its ability to kind of

comment on the world and the focal point often

of that is eric hartman you know it is him in

his crazy schemes like he started as this like

Archie Bunker as a child, but he's kind of grown

into, he's been so much more and he's just done

some truly insane things like this. Like if you

were just, we were talking earlier about, you

know, listing everything Milan has done against

everything that Ariel has done. If you were to

list everything that Eric Cartman was on, you'd

probably be arrested and put on some list because

he's done some really insane things. It's true.

To Butters, especially. But he's also... Yes,

yes. But he's always been really funny. They

always find a new dynamic for him. He's not the

same joke over and over again, where a lot of

characters fall into that. They're always able

to find kind of a new wrinkle, make you think

that maybe he's turned a different leaf. I don't

know. There's always a new way for him to get

laughs. I'm thinking of the Cartoon Wars episodes

where he has everything you can possibly say

wrong about Family Guy, and he kind of nails

it. of shows you those episodes kind of encapsulate

everything that's great about him as a character

and maybe where a lot of other characters aren't

nearly as as memorable so i certainly i was hoping

you would make the top 10 a little sad that we

aren't getting other south park characters because

there's a lot that maybe we will but you know

kenny and uh it's funny but he's not he's kind

of he by design he doesn't he's not nearly the

character of carmen and some maybe stan's dad

you can name brandy marsh might argue is uh around

the same level as him but i don't know i am a

little sad he's on hire but i think he's a fantastic

character dj if we had created the perfect list

uh how many south park characters would have

been in the top 100 oh god that's this is why

i think i thought that Cartman would be lower

or maybe not here because it's almost like a

Game of Thrones situation where there's so many

great characters, they split the vote of each

other. But I echo everything that you guys are

saying. The way South Park works is they use

crassness to get you in the tent. And then by

the time you leave the tent, you're like, wait,

you're looking at a social commentary or political

commentary where you haven't even, in a way you

haven't even looked at before. Cartman is a character,

when I first watched Star Trek, I hated until,

until the greatest act of revenge in television

history in which he drinks the tears of Scott

Teneman after making him eat his own family.

That was the, that's when I was like, okay, I

like Cartman. There is no, people talk about

best revenge of all time. That has to be, if

you have a top hundred best revenge tales, that

might be my top five. He's such a. When Cartman's

being like a dick to Kyle or everybody else,

it kind of rubs me the wrong way a little bit.

But when Cartman is finding somebody who's fake

or phony and calling them on their bullshit is

when I love Cartman. And, of course, he is, for

lack of a better term, the Bart Simpson of the

show. He is the biggest, outrageous character

on the show. But this is a show, you know, you

have a billion characters. This is Mr. Hankey.

It's Janet frickin' Reno as a teacher. Everybody's

great on this show. Mr. Slave, everybody on this

show. That's why I thought that Cartman would

be lower, just because everybody on the show

is great. You name me a bad token. token which

i laugh at every time because he's just essentially

franklin from the peanuts just i'm the black

guy everything on that show is great but carmen

is the big stand -up sketch uh what do you think

of the comments that have been made so far is

a character from south park deserving to be in

the top 15 dj mentioned you know he is the bart

simpson of the south park series is he deserving

to be this much ahead of bart simpson what are

your thoughts overall I think all the commentary

thus far has been very good explaining exactly

why Cartman belongs at least in the top 20, arguably

in the top 15. You could even argue for top 10

because Cartman is an ever -changing character,

yet he's always the same. And he's always hilarious.

He's always brilliant. He's larger than life.

He is Bart Simpson cranked to 11 and then some.

Like folks mentioned about how it's great when

Peter Griffin trolls people that deserve it.

Eric Cartman, even more so. He's absolutely a

delight to watch. At other times, you just love

to hate him. He's constantly changing and yet

constantly the same asshole. And the show itself

is absolutely brilliant. and well deserves representation

on this list probably should have some other

south park characters but yeah i i imagine you

know cartman just he's easily the most visible

most iconic on the most merchandise what have

you so i'm not surprised that he if he's the

only south park character i'm not surprised that

he's on this list i'm not surprised that he's

this high Because I figured he'd be about this

high, regardless of where I put him on my list.

Because he is a very notable, recognizable, iconic

character who's still good, despite how long

this show has been going. Yeah. All right. So

Eric Cartman, the first mention from the South

Park franchise, South Park TV series. Twelve.

Let's... pair that up with our number 12, which

is also going to be the first time, well, not

the first time, second time actually we've mentioned

this show, but I cannot think of a better, more

crazy pairing of two characters next to each

other. Let's go from Eric Cartman to Charlie

Brown. Oh, wow. Charlie Brown's the guy that

Cartman would be trolling half of the time. So

Charlie Brown makes it at number 12, our second

Peanuts character. I forgot that we already did

mention Snoopy last episode at number 30. So

Charlie Brown here all the way up at number 12,

originated in 1948 comic strip, has basically

been voiced by about 365 different people because

as the Peanuts do, they recast actual children

to do the voices every time. And Charlie Brown's

been done approximately. between 50 and 60 times

so far about 57 is the the current number as

far as specials movies etc tv series obviously

iconic when it comes to the holidays in particular

is the iconic enough to be in our top 15 he's

at number 12 dan will let you go first you had

him at number eight as well as um three other

people that had him in the top 10 as well so

what do you think about charlie brown so you're

making up for not ranking snoopy by ranking charlie

brown so high i guess he's I kind of link him

and Winnie the Pooh. They're kind of around the

same line of type of characters. Just the ultimate

lovable losers and they just can't catch a break.

It is weird seeing him next to Eric Cartman because

I couldn't imagine a conversation with those

two. It's like, oh, you miss kicking a football.

That's what happened to you? Okay. I had my period

one time when I'm a guy. My mom does Shizer porn.

But so again, I know the word iconic is used

a lot, but you can't deny Charlie Brown and the

Peanuts is huge. I mean, we're around the time

of Thanksgiving. What is one thing people always

watch? The Peanuts Thanksgiving specials and

the Christmas specials. And he's a big part of

those. So definitely deserves to be on here.

I bring him ahead of me because I think he is

the he is the focal point of the Peanuts. He

is the best character of that show. I think it's

good placing. I mean, arguably a top 10 character,

but glad he's at least falling here. Amanda,

what camp are you in? Snoopy or Charlie Brown?

I would say Charlie Brown just because I feel

more for him. I feel like Snoopy is kind of out

for himself and Charlie Brown is just kind of...

He's got bad luck. And people, I think as much

as his friends like him, they still will pick

on him because he can be picked on. So I felt

bad for him. I don't even think I ranked him,

honestly, though. But I think he's definitely

just, I don't know, kind of memorable just on

the holidays for me anyways. Sketch, you might

be on the opposite side because you had Snoopy

ranked much higher than Charlotte Brown. So what

do you think about the Peanuts characters that

we've seen thus far? usual i i heavily weighted

iconicness and notoriety and to me when you think

of peanuts you more soon you think of snoopy

more often than not you're going to think of

snoopy even more than charlie brown but as far

as character goes charlie brown is a better character

i i will not deny that he Is the lovable loser.

And you just want to root for him. You know.

He's the everyman. And you see the stuff that

he goes through. And the crap that he has to

deal with. And you're just like. Come on Chuck.

You can do it. You can get through it. It's always

nice. Uplifting. Warm feeling. Whenever you watch

the Charlie Brown peanut shorts. So I'm okay

with Snoopy getting beat out by Charlie Brown.

I'm a little surprised that he did. But I'm good

with it. DJ, do you expect to see any other characters

from Peanuts? And if not, is two characters in

the top 100 enough from that franchise? I guess

so. I don't think so. I'm more of a Linus fan.

I more lean toward Linus. But I understand Charlie

Brown because unlike South Park or even The Simpsons,

Charlie Brown is predicated on... how people

all these great characters like lucy and sally

you know even his teacher react he reacts around

them and they react around him you need charlie

brown he is the central person of that that that

cartoon or that series or that comic strip or

whatever you can make a whole episode about cartman

you can make a whole episode about kyle i mean

Peanuts, I think, even when you do the Great

Pumpkin episode, and I love Linus, it's still

not, again, it's like the Winnie the Pooh situation.

It doesn't feel right without Charlie Brown somewhere

there. Charlie Brown and I'm a big fan of Peanuts,

even though the movie I didn't like as much as,

you know, I'm a big fan of the older, more, you

know, dry sense of humor than Peanuts is more

of, hey, we're going to play some pop songs and

sing. But I think Charlie Brown is the big the

big character out of there. Above Snoopy, sure,

because Snoopy, like you guys are saying, doesn't

really have a character arc. He's just, you know,

he's the Kramer of the Peanuts. He just comes

into something wacky and then he leaves. Yeah,

that's a good description of that. Or is Kramer

the Snoopy of Seinfeld? Hey! There we go, there

we go. 11. All right, only one more spot left

until we get into our top 10. That means we're

at number 11. You know, a couple times throughout

the countdown I've been talking about how many

TV shows, how many movies, et cetera, et cetera,

et cetera. Nobody has been in more things than

our number 11. So 97 different television shows,

movies, specials, et cetera, et cetera. Also...

Before today's episode, we'd only had two Hanna

-Barbera characters. We're already getting our

third just from today. Number 11, Scooby -Doo.

Amanda, what do you think of Scooby -Doo just

missing top 10? I think maybe he should have

been in the top 10. I think that Scooby has been

around for a long time. He's had a lot of reincarnations.

He's had a lot of movies. He's had a lot of...

uh even like celebrities like dude had the globetrotters

on his show and animated form so super cool I

think that everybody knows Scooby -Doo super

iconic and one of the cutest little things you

could dress up your kids for on Halloween just

gonna put that out there and I think that he

he's somebody that's definitely deserving of

a rank here in the top like I said probably top

10 honestly All right, so one vote that he should

be possibly in the top ten. Just looking at it

overall, I didn't mention this when I introduced

it, but on more lists than anybody up to this

point. So even more lists than Darkwing Duck

and Bart Simpson. So only four people left Scooby

-Doo off of their list. Sketch, another one of

your top ten falling. Almost got it right, though.

You had him at number nine. He falls here at

number 11. What do you think of Scooby -Doo?

I think you should have edged it into the top

ten. By iconicness alone, perhaps. But he's also

such a great, lovable character. He's the heart

of the show. And think of all of the shows that

would not exist without Scooby -Doo. I mean,

that's... It's a lot. It's a whole lot, not even

counting Scooby -Doo spinoffs. So, without question,

and I would say the same of Tom and Jerry, that

you had to have... Those characters, they had

to exist for so many other things to come after

them. And despite that, they weren't necessarily

topped by any of their imitators. So Scooby -Doo

absolutely should be in the top 10. I'm okay

with it being in 11, I guess. We'll see how the

rest of the top 10 goes. Dan, is Scooby -Doo

the best character in his own show? I don't know.

I feel like... It's hard to really separate them

as characters in a way. Like, I don't... It's

the gang. Yeah, I mean, I guess technically he's

been in... There's been a lot of different versions

of Scooby -Doo, and the people have kind of changed,

but he's kind of stayed the same for the most

part. So I don't know. I mean, he's a dog who

kind of talks in a little bit, so is he the best

character? I don't know. He's probably the...

the most memorable and at least the most interesting

and fun. If you were to look at maybe which animated

character has... have more babies had a stuffed

animal of um it scooby -doo's got to be in the

top 10 it's a weird uh qualifier weird no but

i did not add that to my list garfield's up there

too though right i mean kermit should be way

higher than scooby -doo if you go by i was thinking

just like yogi bear and not yogi bear excuse

me um winnie the pooh and and scooby -doo seem

to be like i just always well yeah yeah i'm sorry

i sidetracked you damn keep going because they've

never gone away I mean, you can't deny the character

of Scooby -Doo has huge longevity, so it certainly

has his impact. I guess this comes to the point

where are you ranking quality of character over

just notoriety? And for me, Eric Cartman blows

him out of the water as a quality of a character,

so I think he shouldn't be higher than that.

But I also can't deny the fact that... So many

people know who he is. That's the one cartoon

franchise that refuses to die. It's still making

new cartoons to this day. And he's been a part

of all of them, even the worst ones. So I guess

to that point, you can't deny that he's deserving

of being top 15, top 10. So this is a good spot

for sure. He was ranked all over the map. Somebody

had him in the 70s, somebody had him in, two

people had him in the 60s, 50s, 40s, 20s, top

10, 30s. I mean, he was, I think he, probably

if we were to break this down, no other character

appeared in completely different spots more than

Scooby -Doo did. DJ, what are your thoughts on

where he falls, and is it just more the fact

that he's just known, or is he a good character

as well? Not only is he a dog that can talk,

not only is he a dog that can talk that solves

mysteries, not only is he a dog that can talk

that solves mysteries and smokes reefer. I mean.

I mean, of course, he kind of was the anchor

of Cartoon Network before Cartoon Network had

original programming for a very long time. Scooby

-Doo was on like, it was like the Christmas story

during Christmas. Cartoon Network was a Scooby

-Doo, Scooby -Doo, Scooby -Doo, Scooby -Doo,

original programming. Scooby -Doo, Scooby -Doo,

Scooby -Doo, Scooby -Doo. I think he's just so

iconic of a character. You got to put him up

here. I don't know if... I can see people being

upset that Cartman is lower than him or Snoopy

is lower than him or maybe Garfield. I just think

Scooby -Doo has – somewhere Scooby -Doo is on

right now. I keep making these metaphorical comparisons.

It's like Law & Order. That show is on somewhere

in the world at this point, and kids love Scooby

-Doo. Though he's – kind of not a really well

fleshed out character. It's a talking dog, guys.

Snoopy couldn't even do that. Yeah, possibly

more crossovers and guest stars or whatever than

any other cartoon character ever. Yeah, if you

go back to the classics and now they're doing

crossovers with like WWE or something, I don't

know. They have like guest stars galore. Amanda,

DJ brought one thing up as far as him being a

cartoon dog. Is he the greatest cartoon dog of

all time? Who would argue that? I mean, I'm pretty

sure he is. Like, Blue's Clues, she solves mysteries,

but she does not smoke pot. We're going to put

that out there. She doesn't have the cool of

a friend. Definitely an acid taker. Like, Steve

is not as cool as Shaggy. Steve is dead. Didn't

they kill Steve off of that show? No, he aged

out. He did. He was going bald. I think Steve

had a record. We're going down a bad path. But

I think he is the most iconic animated dog. Alright,

we'll have to wait and see if the listeners have

any dogs that should be ranked higher than Scooby

-Doo. All right. We talked about this a little

bit. Well, first of all, we're into our top ten,

so I don't know how many of you are trying to

keep tally on your notepad or whatever or your

phone. What ten characters are left? Maybe some

of you have the predictions. I don't know. We'll

have to see how many of them you have right or

if there are some wild cards thrown in here because

we still have ten characters to go. We talked

a little bit about this earlier when we talked

about Tom and Jerry and Rocky and Bullwinkle

and Ren and Stimpy. Well, we had one more pair

to go, and they're going to fall right here at

number 10. Anybody have a guess as to what pair

that is? I have two guesses. Crickets. Sketch,

what's one of your guesses? I think the upset

is it's Pinky and the Brain. It is Pinky and

the Brain at number 10. So, Pinky and the Brain,

maybe it's a... Thing of the 90s love, coming

back from 1993, Rob Paulson and Maurice LaMarche.

A lot of people had Pinky and the Brain on their

list. Five people did not. Everybody else did.

Pinky and the Brain going all the way up to number

10. Only one, I don't know, I'm sorry, three

people had them in their top 10. So somebody

had them ranked 10, somebody had them ranked

7, somebody had them ranked 3rd. A whole lot

of people had them in the 20s and the 30s. Amanda?

Is Pinky and the Brain top 10 all -time worthy?

Oh, man. Hard to say. This top 10 thing, I'm

so bad with ranking. It's my own downfall, I

think, when it comes to these lists. But Iconic,

did I spend some time with Pinky and the Brain

when I was little? Yes, quite a bit. So I think

that they have something also that... people

remember. I mean, they all have these lines,

you know, what are we going to do tonight? Or,

you know, any of the weird little sayings in

their songs, it's super rememberable. So it's

hard to say at this point. I don't know. A lot

of us had it in the 20s and 30s. Is that where

they should have fallen or are they top 10 worthy,

Dan? I don't think they're top ten worthy. I

like Pinky and the Brain a lot. I think they're

great characters. And, you know, as a person

of the 90s, loved them when they appeared on

Animaniacs and when they continued on their own

show. But I think this is a little too high for

them. Like, you know, looking at someone like

Tom and Jerry, as we mentioned, not nearly the

longevity of those characters. And I think they

had a huge impact on a specific time period for

an age like around our age group. But I don't

know if that's continuing with the kids today

with some of the characters we talked about.

So I love them as characters. They're great.

They're funny. They're amazing together. But

when you're talking top 10 animated characters

of all time, I don't know if I'd go that far.

I think it's going to be unfortunate that they

fell in this spot because they're going to end

up just getting maybe some hate or some people

ripping on them. Like you said, they are good

characters. I think if they would have fallen

like number 25 or number 32 or something like

that, people would have been, you know. praising

them instead, so I don't know if it's going to

have an adverse effect on them. DJ, best duo

of all time? No. Pinky and the Brain, I think,

deserves credit for being different and original

with their gimmick. Goodie, you're back! I've

made a yummy dinner! Food pellets with food pellets!

Please, Pinky, I've had a very tough day. Oh,

my day, Blaine? We always hear about your day,

but what about mine? The boss this, and the boss

Not a thing. Now I know how American Gladius

stays out of hand. the likes of woody or you

know stuff like that i don't i don't know so

uh i guess for all fairness don't be mad at the

people that are speaking on this record uh i

had pink in the brain at 25 amanda 31 dan 32

sketch 32 so none of us had pink in the brain

in top 10 so this is more of a product of the

number of people that at least rank them and

then we had three people that did have them in

the top ten sketch. What are your thoughts on

Pinky and the Brain and where they're coming

out here? I love Pinky and the Brain. This is

way too high. I wish I couldn't... I wish it

didn't have to feel this way, but this is just

one of those weird things that's going to happen

because of the way these lists are counted. And

Pinky and the Brain definitely deserve to be...

I would say top 30, top 25. They're a fantastic

pairing, wonderfully acted. They spun off from

Animaniacs, got their own show. It aired in primetime

for a while, which I feel is kind of a big deal

because that was really uncommon at the time.

And they're definitely very beloved for a generation,

but they kind of just disappeared. So I think

they're very endearing and beloved and should

be on this list. But top ten? Come on. I mean...

No. Rocky and Bullwinkle, Tom and Jerry, even

Ren and Stimpy. I'll take Kermit over Pinky and

the Brain. Oh, absolutely, Kermit. Kermit should

be top ten. In Amanda's style, she would like

to know the names of the people that were skewing

this. Who can I blame? So Pinky and the Brain

got ranked at number ten by the Talking in Circles.

right let's try to we're all in unanimous nobody

was dissenting among us we all said this is too

high so give us some slack let's move to number

nine all right our number nine pick let's go

back to disney Are we going to the world of film

or the world of television or shorts? Let's go

all the way back to 1934, first appearing in

a Disney short. Been around for a while. Number

nine, Donald Duck. So number nine is going to

be Donald Duck. I had Donald Duck ranked higher

than anybody. I had him at number three, so I

would have put him up a little bit higher. I

think he is... I'll go on record right now. For

me, I think he's the best Disney character of

all time. So I would put him ahead of every other

Disney character. I just think there's more to

him. I think he's more entertaining. I got way

more joy and entertainment out of watching Donald

Duck than I did any other Disney character. I

mean, everybody had an uncle that would imitate

his voice. Yeah. My uncle did that. But think

about it, too. Obviously, a lot of people have

done that since, but at the time, the creation

of that voice, who came up with that? That's

absolutely insane. How the fuck else would a

duck talk? Have you seen their mouths? Yeah,

but just to do it exactly like that. Now everybody

thinks that's how a duck would talk because of

Donald Duck. But before that, nobody would have

thought that. Donald Duck, number nine, I would

bump him up a little bit higher, but at least

he's in the top ten. Maybe some of you guys feel

differently, though, because I'm obviously the

one that ranked him highest. Amanda, no love

for you. donald duck not on your list is he deserving

top 10 or not uh i don't know maybe top 25 maybe

top 15 all right so no love from donald duck

from amanda uh sketch you weren't too far up

you had him in the top 20 or no you had him in

the top 10 you had him number seven so you're

with me you think you should be right where he's

at or a little bit higher i think you should

be a little bit higher i think you could make

the argument for top five for donald duck because

like you said He is the most entertaining Disney

character, bar none. He's way more entertaining

than Mickey, arguably more entertaining than

Goofy. I weighted both of them above him because

of, I think, honestly, popularity more than anything

else. But Donald, he's been in so many things.

He's always hilarious. They've tried the different

layers with him. He was an uncle. And he took

care of the boys. You know, quack pack of all

things. But Donald Duck, he's the everyman that

can't catch a break. And unlike Charlie Brown,

who takes it in stride and maybe gets a little

bummed out, Donald Duck fights back. And everybody's

got that little nerve in them that appreciates

when Donald Duck loses his shit. Well, it was

also something that you didn't get to see a lot

of. It was showing more of a real, I don't know,

like kids, you get to see this person lose their

temper. You're getting to see this person go

crazy and stuff like that. But I don't know,

there's almost a more realness to it, but also

more of a teaching opportunity with it. I just

think he's a... A more interesting character,

maybe. Isn't Darkwing Duck already on here, though?

So isn't that technically Donald fucking Duck,

too? No. No, no, no. What? Slow down. That's

Drake Mallard's completely different duck. It's

a completely different duck? I thought it was

the same goddamn duck. No, Darkwing Duck can

speak in actual sense. Wow, do you think all

ducks look the same? Oh, whoa, what are you saying

here? What are you saying here? You people. What

do you mean, you people? You ducks. You ducks.

DJ, what do you think? We were all unanimous

that Pinky and the Brain did not deserve top

10. So far, we've had two people say Donald Duck

deserves it. Where do you fall on? Donald Duck

in or out of the top 10? You've been going about

this all wrong. This Donald Duck, he's a sailor.

He's in New York. We get this guy late, we have

no problem. No, I... you go with donald duck

because he's donald duck you have to have him

in the top 10 and when you get into the top 10

you're picking out people like donald and i don't

know if i won't spoil any other ones but uh you

have to understand it it's not like you know

he's way out of this is way out of left field

and i agree he's probably the most entertaining

one of the disney characters though i was when

i was growing up it was you're a donald fan or

you're another uh iconic duck fan and i was an

other iconic duck fan but again i understand

donald duck because he was when it comes to marketing

it's between him and goofy and the uh other rodent

that runs that that whole uh amusement park so

yeah i understand donald duck being top 10 dan

maybe the amanda didn't think so as far as top

10 were the three people since then have said

yes where do you fall on the donald duck debate

i was a very huge donald duck fan to be honest

with you always found him a tad bit annoying

more so than entertaining like like you guys

did i mean no denying again he's hugely a part

of the world of disney and a big part of their

success so i don't know if i would put him in

the top 10 though like i i would think goofy

is a little bit more of like a kind of character

than donald maybe that's up for debate but that's

what i thought i just i i don't know where i

don't know if i would i would put them up this

high against some of the other characters that

we've talked about today like you know a charlie

brown or an eric hartman or those i feel like

there's more like i would rank those higher than

a donald duck personally but All right, so we'll

have to wait and see what people think about

Donald Duck being our second entrant into the

top ten. When we get to our number eight pick

here, I will say that this is probably the pick

I'm most proud of as far as our list, because,

Dan, you had said some comments earlier about

maybe thinking that some of the classic characters

would get forgotten. would be forgotten and i

am completely shocked that this character made

the top 10 i think it's completely worthy but

i would have never predicted based on our more

modern bias it seems like or even like a 90s

bias that this character would somehow find enough

votes to get in also a character that's making

our top 10 that not a single person put in their

top 10 so nobody had this character in their

top 10 but enough people had him high enough

to get him in here we're going kind of bogus

He also has appeared on more lists than anybody

except for Scooby -Doo. Him and Scooby -Doo are

so far on the most lists. Going all the way back

to a comic strip from 1929 at number eight, let's

talk about Popeye. I would have expected him

to be lost in the shuffle and not have appeared

at this point or to be way down on the other

end of the list. But enough love for Popeye to

get him in to the top 10. I'm not saying necessarily

if he's worthy of top 10. I didn't vote him there.

I put him at number 39. But I'm just shocked

that our group put him up this high. Dan, what

do you think about Popeye being at number 8?

Wow, that was unexpected completely, to be honest

with you. Wow, Popeye. I mean, he's a fun character

for sure. certainly you know is influential but

i don't know top 10 seems a little bit high it

just it's high and odd i guess because i understand

thinking the brain being ranked this high popeye

being ranked this high like it's hard to really

quantify why that happened i guess everyone just

knows popeye and is aware of him as a character

so i guess you gotta give him points for that

so How many people that jotted down what the

top ten was going to be have already crumpled

up their piece of paper and thrown it? Bracket

buster. If Pinky and Brain didn't do it, Popeye

might have. DJ, what do you think of Popeye the

Sailor Man and the spinach -eating, muscle -toting

sailor self being at number eight? You've been

going about this all wrong. Popeye, he's a sailor.

Two sailors back -to -back. I'm a huge fan of

the My Guilty Pleasure is the Robert Altman Popeye

movie with Robin Williams. I have an affinity

for Popeye, but, man, top 10? That's crazy. I'd

have never in a million years. I'm, like, waiting

for you to say, like, you know, I don't know,

Felix the Cat or something crazy old. Popeye,

I'd have never seen this coming. So I think he's

a little bit too high. I like Popeye. I damn

sure like Robin Williams' Popeye. So, okay. I

think he should probably be in the 100, but not

the top 10. I can see a lot of people saying

maybe not top 10. I do like that we're getting

such a classic character, though, in this episode.

Along with the likes of Tom and Jerry, Rocky

and Bullwinkle, etc. I was afraid that some of

those might be left in the dust. Sketch, you

had Popeye at 17. He comes in here in our top

10 at number 8. What do you think? A little too

high for Popeye. Obviously, heavily weighted

in his iconicness. Everybody knows the song.

Everybody knows the character. Everybody knows

Spinach. Who learned about spinach from Popeye?

Pretty much everybody. Everyone. And then we're

disappointed to find out that spinach is not

nearly as cool as Popeye makes it out to be,

but it is tasty. Also the only member from King

Features, if you're going to go with a company

that originally produced Popeye. Yeah, interesting.

Popeye at number eight. DJ, expecting Olive Oil

or Bluto to appear still? I think Pluto might

sneak in and Shelley Duvall does not want anything

to do with this list. What about that guy who

asks for a cheeseburger? Wimpy? Wimpy on this

list? No, no, no. I would gladly pay you. We

could have another Robin Williams character if

that means anything. All right, we'll have to

wait and see if that's a thing or not. Seven.

All right, so let's go to our number seven. We've

had diverse opinions about what's making our

top ten so far. I would like to think that this

one would be unanimous. Let's get another Looney

Tunes character in here at number seven. DJ,

you kind of mentioned the rivalry here. Let's

go with Daffy Duck at number seven. Two ducks

in the top ten? Damn right. Damn right. You better

believe it. DJ, why Daffy Duck ahead of Donald

Duck? Okay, well, other than the obvious, one's

a black duck and one's a white duck. I'm going

with Daffy Duck because he's played multiple

cool -ass characters. Duck Dodgers, Scarlet Pumpernel.

Daffy Duck's relationship with Bugs Bunny made

me like Bugs Bunny. And I'm not a Bugs Bunny

fan, but when they interact together, it's the

only time I like Bugs. And I like their kind

of sibling rivalry. Donald was kind of like,

you know, the posh duck. Like, oh, you like Donald

Duck? Daffy was the gritty duck that was like,

you know, I'm doing like 15 shows on Broadway

a week. You know what I'm saying? That's Daffy

Duck. Daffy was the hardworking duck. And he's

just funny. And I just like, every time he has

an interaction with a Looney Tunes character,

it's great. If it's Porky Pig, as we mentioned

on the last show, or Bugs, or Marvin the Martian.

Or any of these guys, Yosemite, freaking Sam,

Duck season, Rabbit season. Daffy Duck's awesome.

He's awesome. All right, so one vote for Daffy

Duck. Five people not finding enough room in

their top 100 to put Daffy Duck anywhere. What?

What do you think about Daffy Duck, and is he

deserving to be in our top 10? I definitely think

he's deserving of a spot on this list. I think

top 10 is a good range for him. He's super iconic,

and dude japs out and spits everywhere. He's

a real dude with real emotions, and I think that

DJ made a good point with his interactions with

everybody. I think that's what made him super

fun was how he... Interact with everybody else.

He's kind of a dick, but I mean he's still like

a super likable dick like Neil Patrick Harris

He's a big dick So with Popeye, we said nobody

had Popeye in their top ten. Five people had

Daffy in their top ten. I had Daffy at number

five. Rice and Curry had him at number nine.

TV's Mr. Neal at number two. David at number

five. Sketch at number five. So a lot of love

for Daffy on the panel. Dan, where do you think,

as far as Daffy Duck being in the top ten, is

he more deserving than a couple of the other

ones we've mentioned so far? Oh, definitely.

I would say more than Popeye. for sure and uh

you know he's just like an interesting character

in the sense of like he kind of like actively

try to get people not to like him but you still

kind of did he wasn't really a villain he wasn't

really a hero he kind of sometimes he was a straight

up you know hero depending on the version of

him but like he kind of was in the middle in

some ways and he had a great obviously rivalry

with a character we'll probably talk about eventually

today but yeah Daffy Duck is I I would I don't

think you could have a top 15, a top 10 without

him being on there. And I think I prefer him

much more to that of Donald Duck because I think

there's much more to him as a character. And

I think he's a lot more funnier and a little

bit more intelligent than people maybe even realize.

And he's like driven by his ego. His ego will

take him to a great place or a horrible place,

but he's always driven by his ego. But you're

just saying, Dan, how – I think he's more – he's

just smarter than – though he would end up losing.

I just see – I always saw him as smarter than

Donald. Donald was just kind of like, I have

a temper. i'm gonna go crazy because shit ain't

going my way daffy's like look man i'm a i'm

a stage actor i'm a space cowboy you could make

like a daffy duck like corby you enthusiast yes

enthusiasm style type of comedy perfect comparison

he's larry fucking there's nothing yeah so he

is the larry david of the looney tunes so there

you go Also another character that they weren't

afraid to show, you know, some frustration, some

anger, some losing the temper type thing. So

definitely appreciate that about Daffy Duck as

well. Yeah, we might have to do a whole list

of ducks at some point. Since we have some confusion

between Darkwing and Donald and Daffy and all

the other ones, I'm sure we could easily get

a top ten of just ducks. There's a Ducks cartoon

in the 90s we can talk about. Oh, man. Speaking

of Darkwing Duck, Justice Ducks. Six. All right,

let's get to our next selection here, number

six. Let's go to another primetime cartoon character

presence. And let's also go back to not seeing

a lot of love throughout the top 100, but maybe

getting some love here with Hanna -Barbera. Let's

go to the OG, as Amanda would call him, maybe,

when it comes to these types of characters. Let's

go to Fred. for our number six pick. Going back

all the way to 1959, early days of cartoon animation

on television. Dan, we'll start with you. You

had Fred Flintstone just on the outside of the

top ten at number 12. Some people similar. We

had, let's see, two people at 12, one person

at 17, one person at 18. About three people had

him in the top ten. What do you think of Fred

Flintstone coming in here at number six, and

is he top ten worthy? Yeah, he kind of started

the archetype for a lot of characters to come.

The kind of bumbling dad, but still, he kind

of messes up, but his heart is in the right place

for most of the time. And obviously, Flintstones

as a cartoon has a huge impact and arguably one

of the greatest cartoons of all time, and he's

a big part of that too. I think he's definitely

deserving of top 10 for sure. So, and I would

also mention like, if you want to see a very

different version of Fred Flintstone, read the

current DC Flintstone comic. It is insane what

they do with that comic. It's like, it's looking

at the world of the Flintstones in a. Completely

different, darker adult tone, but it's magical.

Is he hitting Wilma in the head with a club and

dragging her to a cave? Is that what's happening?

No. It's talking about social and cultural issues

from gay marriage to wars and PTSD. It's insane,

but it's a brilliant comic. But if we're talking

about Flintstones, I had to get that in. I haven't

mentioned much about the points that people have

had, but we started today with Wally, who had

518 points. Fred Flintstone, well, let's just

go to Daffy Duck last time, 759. So we've gone

from 518 up to 759 points for Daffy Duck. Huge

jump between Daffy Duck and Fred Flintstone,

759 all the way up to 839. So there was a huge

gap here between our top six and the rest of

the field. So Fred Flintstone at number six.

Amanda, what do you think? We've talked about

some of the others. We've talked about Archer.

We've talked about Peter and Stewie Griffin.

We've talked about Bart Simpson. Coming all the

way back to 1959, before all of them, Fred Flintstone,

is he deserving to be in the top ten? I think

so. I think he would arguably beat those guys

out. I do think he is like the quintessential

50s, early 60s dad, like going bowling and all

the roles that everybody plays. I think that

it... definitely said a lot about like the social

commentary that was you know surrounding that

time period so i think that's that's pretty cool

to think about something that you wouldn't really

think about as a kid either um i always was pissed

at him because he put dino out for the night

like I'm like, dude, how are you going to do

that to him? Just let him stay inside. That's

super mean to do to your animal. But he was a

freaking dinosaur. So I get it. You don't lock

them right back out. He was outside for like

five minutes. It was the saber -toothed tiger

that did that. Oh, you're right. But I liked

more the, I don't know how much flag I'm making

for this, but I liked the live action movies.

So much as a kid. I wish I owned those right

now so I could go watch them. Love them a lot.

Love them way more than the cartoon. John Goodman

was born to play Fred Flintstone. I will say

that. Yes. Halle Berry of an M .O. I think that

the cartoon, definitely iconic. Who doesn't know

the Flintstones? Who doesn't know the Flintstones

song? And I'm pretty sure that this shit should

still be... played for kids because it's just

good, wholesome fun with the, yeah. With the

prehistoric edge. Prehistoric edge. Sketch, what

do you think about Fred Flintstone making our

top 10? I don't know if it's good, wholesome

fun because Fred Flintstone was a schemer and

he got, he was always trying to do something

that he knew he shouldn't be doing and he didn't

want his wife to find out. It's, you know, everybody

has, there's this term now it's it's a flintstones

moments which is obviously like a honey honeymooners

moment but fred flintstone is archetype of the

bubbling dad sitcom character he's totally iconic

they're still selling those fruity pebbles and

the flintstones chewables And even though the

show, I don't think the show is, sadly, I don't

think the show is on even Boomerang anymore.

Maybe like really late at night. Yeah, yeah,

it is on really late at night. But it was off

for a while, which was infuriating. But I won't

get into that. Fred Flintstone, so tremendously

iconic. And there would be so many characters

that would not exist without him. And he's the

OG. DJ, we talked about with South Park that

we only had the one character up to this point,

Eric Cartman. Should we have had more Flintstone

characters up to this point? Should we have had

a Barney or a Wilma or any of those? Or is Fred

the only one deserving to be anywhere in the

top? I think we're fine with Fred. I think we're

fine with it. I mean, though, again, like I said

earlier, I was going in there thinking it was

going to be Fred and Barney because they are.

you could see him as a duo but I think Fred is

he's good enough I think even if you slide in

Dino because of iconography Dino doesn't do anything

other than he's really you know maybe captain

caveman there's no i think fred is the the major

flintstones character and like we're dan made

that comparison to daffy duck with larry david

i i and i know the fred is the honeymooners that's

essentially the prehistoric honeymooners i always

looked at it as uh prehistoric american children

i always looked at him as the al bundy character

because of the scheming and all the other stuff

so but yeah yeah fred flintstone's great I'm

still kind of iffy on, you know, this high, but

it's fine. Well, I'm interested to see now. We

only have five spots left without actually saying

any of the names. Amanda, do you have any clue

what's coming out of the top five? Do you have

it narrowed down to five characters we haven't

talked about, or are you just confused as all

heck at this point? Honestly, I have not even

really been trying to predict anything because

I would just be super freaking mad, pretty sure.

So I just don't even have any hope, so they can't

be crushed. But I'm pretty sure there's still

at least one more super iconic Disney. character

that we're gonna get um probably another looney

tunes character at least for sure those two dan

outside of having a couple of them maybe nailed

down do you think you have all five of them nailed

down uh i think so i don't know for sure dj what

do you think you got all five nailed down or

pretty sure i got three of them i got i'm pretty

sure i got three of them i won't say what they

are but yeah there's two that are fringing that

i'm trying to figure out and the fact that we

had popeye so high i have no idea what's coming

up next sketch what do you think how many of

the five do you have nailed down i think i think

i have four i'm i'm debating on the fifth one

because it could go either way and i'll be disappointed

if either of them doesn't make it honestly I

can't wait to hear if some of these that you

guys have nailed down don't make it and which

ones they are. We'll have to wait and see on

that. Five. But let's see if we can bust your

brackets right off the get -go with our number

five. Maybe, maybe not. Number five, I don't

know if it was fair or not to include duos, but

if people had a problem with duos, then they're

definitely going to have a problem with trios.

Number five, let's do all three of the Warners

from the Animaniacs, Yakko, Wacko, and Dot. So

the Animaniacs coming in at number 5. From 1993,

the 90s love, maybe that's the one bias that

we're exposing here with this list. We always

have one superhero, but this time maybe it's

just straight 90s bias. Where was Animaniacs

on the top 100 cartoons? Was it in the top 5?

I think it was. It was for sure in the top 10,

if I remember right. I'd have to go back and

look at that. So looking at Animaniacs, four

people left them off of the top 100 altogether,

but a lot of love. Only two people had them in

the top 10, so a lot of people had them in the

20s. Let's see, about four or five people had

them in the 20s. Six people had them in the 20s,

so a lot of love. Maybe not a lot of people that

would have had them this high, but a lot of people

that had them fairly high on their list overall.

Let's start with you. amanda surprised that we're

talking about animaniacs in the top five uh kind

of yeah i can see top 10 i don't think top five

i i think there's a ton to like about their show

um super fun characters but uh yeah i don't know

i i'm a little confused on that one sketch given

the the generally the lack of looney tunes characters

thus far, are you surprised that kind of the

90s version of those types of characters from

the WWE is ranking this high? Once Pinky and

the Brain showed up where they did, I was like,

oh, here we go. The Warners are going to be in

the top 10. Yeah. The thing about the Warners

is they're really entertaining. You kind of have

to have all of them. And I think they should

be lumped together. Man, top ten? Top five? That's

a stretch. I mean, 90s nostalgia, ahoy, but man,

that's going a bit far. Like with Pinky and the

Brain, but I would put the Warners above them

because of various things. But the Animaniacs

are wonderful characters. I adored that show.

I think they should be the highest rated characters

in their own show, even though there's a plethora

of fantastic characters from that entire franchise.

Oh, man. I feel bad for not wanting them in the

top ten, but they shouldn't be in the top ten

because their whole shtick is that they are like

a remake of existing characters. and they're

really good at that and they subvert that to

an extent but they're not better like i can't

put the warners above daffy duck yeah that's

crazy that's absurd i'm i'm this is this is the

madness of the list that is madness DJ, if we

were ranking top trios in animation history,

should Animaniacs be in the top five of that

list? You're going to have to give me some trios.

I guess. I guess. I would put above the Animaniacs

if you're going to go trios. Where are the chipmunks

at? Or the chipmunks or whatever. Yeah, I put

them over the Warners. I mean, again, you can

copy and paste my pinky in the brain comments

on this. You know, put it right here because

I. Again, I was never a huge Animaniacs fan,

but it's obvious that your listeners are. So

the fact that you have Inky and the Brain and

then the Animaniacs is right next to him is crazy.

Beating out people like Daffy and Donald Duck

is just mind -blowing to me. I think what it's

more of a product is, like Scott was saying,

it's kind of how the list is compiled. I think

it's the fact that... there's more agreement

that they belong in the top 100 uh there's not

as many people detracting from that there's not

people saying you know leave them all the way

off the list and because there's enough people

agreeing that they at least should be in the

conversation of 100 that they fall end up falling

this high it is obviously a very cleverly written

show and very intelligent um people behind it

uh so i i feel bad again it's like pinking the

brain like we talked about they're they're gonna

get hate from this and that and that shouldn't

really necessarily be the thing it's more of

an agreement that they're at least great characters

that should be talked about. I wish they would

have fallen maybe in the 20s or 30s like a lot

of people had them ranked because that might

have spared them a little bit. Dan, what do you

think of this whole thing? Is this one of the

five that you had nailed down? I mean, it's one

that I figured after looking at the list so far,

seeing a lot of the loves. Once Darkwing Duck

was as high as he was, it was like, okay, 90s

is going to reign supreme in a lot of ways. And

I like the Animaniacs, and again, I'm going to

kind of beat the same drum that's been beating.

But, like, they're very great. That show was

great, but... You know, Flintstones, like the

Flintstones, the character that has remained

through generations, Snoopy, Scooby Doo, you

know, the character, the characters we're talking

about are hugely influential through a huge period

of time. I don't know if that's the same with

the Animaniacs, like if they will have that same

impact, you know, will they be as looked upon

as fondly in 30 years from now as the Flintstones?

is is is today i'm not sure maybe from our generation

yes but i don't know if it if like kids today

watch the animaniacs you know i know it's on

netflix so maybe they do that way but i think

it's a very it's it was great for its time and

i think it's you could argue maybe those they

deserve top 20 top 30 maybe top 15 but i don't

think that they're in the same league as some

of the characters we're talking about within

this top 10 four All right, so we'll have to

see. We maybe broke some brackets with Animaniacs.

Maybe we'll break some more with our number four

pick. It's going to be hard to say. I think somehow

I'm impressed by a couple of you because I think

a couple of you actually have this nailed down

just from some of the comments that we've seen

prior in the countdown. But I would have thought

that this one might have thrown some people for

a loop. Let's go to our number four pick and

go back to, again, the wonderful world of Disney.

And we've had a lot of... Disney characters,

obviously, more than any other company, and most

of them have been from Disney movies. This is

the highest rated amongst that subsection. We're

going to, from 1992, The Genie. So The Genie

from Aladdin coming in as the number four best

character of all time when it comes to animated

characters. Dan? You missed it by one spot, and

you had him at number five. So what are your

thoughts on Genie coming in here at number four?

So basically, Robin Williams has two spots in

this top ten of animated characters. I mean,

the Genie is pretty much the product of an amazing

casting choice where you're like, okay, let's

make Robin Williams into an animated character,

and it works, and it's genius, and I'm a huge

fan of Aladdin, and maybe my choice is... of

him playing putting a genie so high it's because

of that but he you know amazing songs so hilarious

it was so funny you know a reason i think the

reason that movie works in a lot of ways and

but i think there's also be he's there's some

more to him than all the jokes and you know he

has a great arc and seeing kind of where he starts

and seeing this you know this desire for him

to be free and things like that so in a great

friendship will give you such a crick in the

neck. Hang on a second. Whoa! Whoa! Does it feel

good to be out of there? I'm telling you, nice

to be back, ladies and gentlemen. Hi, where are

you from? What's your name? Uh, uh, Aladdin.

Aladdin! Hello, Aladdin. Nice to have you on

the show. Can we call you Al, or maybe just Din?

Or how about Lottie? Sounds like... Here, boy.

Come on, Lottie. Say... You're a lot smaller

than my last master. Either that or I'm getting

bigger. Look at me from the side. Do I look different

to you? Wait, wait a minute. I'm your master?

That's right. He can be taught. What would you

wish of me? The ever impressive. But never duplicate.

So I love the animated cartoon series as well.

And that continued. So I guess everything I said

about the Animaniacs, maybe people could argue

with the Genie. He's, again, a 90s character.

So maybe that's a product of this list. We're

seeing a lot of the 90s love continued. But I

think for the Genie, he does deserve where he's

placed. And solely because of Robin Williams.

I mean, the guy, he nailed it. And I think Genie

is going to be one of those characters that lives

on for generations. We talked about the points

a little bit. Fred Flintstone had 839. We went

up to 867 for the Animaniacs, and all the way

up to 907 for the Genie. Dan, you had him at

number five. DJ, your group at Simplistic Reviews

had him at number three. Talking in Circles had

him at number four. You also ranked number 10,

11, 11, 12, 19, and then 22, and two people had

him in the 50s. Four people had him off of the

list completely. Sketch, you were one of the

ones that had him in the 50s, so one of the lower

ones for Genie. Are you surprised? that he's

all the way up into our top five. I'm a little

surprised. I think certain events may have waded

into this. But looking at the character, specifically

the character here, he's a fantastic character.

Wonderfully written, wonderfully performed, both

by Robin Williams and the cartoon guy Dan. I

can't pronounce his last name. Dan Castellaneta.

Yeah. Both of those. Obviously, Robin is so much

better. But both of them, very good performances.

Really drive the show and the movies. And everything

about him is hilarious. But he's also the heart

of the movie. And he sticks with you. The song

sticks with you. Totally iconic character. I

can see why people would want him to be top 10.

It seems a little high to me. Maybe I just haven't

watched those movies lately. But I guess I can

understand where everybody's coming from here.

And I'm okay with that. I should have ranked

him higher than I did. DJ... One of the people

I don't believe was thrown off by Genie being

in the top five was you. I think you had this

one nailed down. So what are your thoughts on

Genie being here at number four? I mean, Robin

Williams is the closest thing that we got to

a real life cartoon character when he was kicking

around. And I know he played the fruit bat in

Fern Gully, but the Genie is the first character.

I think it had like a it's arguable, but I think

it was the first major celebrity. playing an

animated character, and it allowed Robin Williams

to be Robin Williams. No restrictions. Are we

disregarding Gilbert Gottfried here? Gilbert

Gottfried. Yes! I read somewhere they were animating

the first bit where he's playing the genie in

disguise. Spoiler alert. They animated around

his bits. They made him do things. they filmed

it and then they would animate it just to add

it. And the genie to me, other than like Sketch

is saying, he's the heart of the freaking movie.

We hadn't seen a character that wasn't a Looney

Tunes character that could literally just do

anything. He's making references to Jack Nicholson

in the Middle East and God knows what century

that was taking place. So yeah, just the genie

is awesome. Like you're saying, if you want to

see how great of a character he is, watch the

animated movie and watch it when it's not Robin

Williams. That character in that movie was so

amazing to me. When we were having a discussion

about it, I was like, well, Genie's got to be

top ten. He's got to be top five. I guess he

might be top three. I couldn't think of anybody

else other than the two people who I still think

are on this list better than him. he is essentially

what makes that movie go. Aladdin's a great character,

fine. Jasmine's fine. But it's the genie you

remember from Aladdin. Amanda, we talked about

and I mentioned that this is going to be our

highest Disney film character. So if I would

have told you at the beginning of the list that

it wasn't going to be a Disney princess, it wasn't

going to be a Disney villain, it wasn't going

to even be the main protagonist of any of the

films, but that our highest ranking Disney film

character would be a supporting character, would

you believe me? If I would have been thinking

straight, then yes, because the genie is definitely

deserving of this spot. He is... I don't know

anybody who's like, I don't like the fucking

genie. No, everybody loves the genie. Everybody

loves the genie. Nazis and fascists and whoever

else. But I think that Robin Williams... was

the fucking genie in real life. Just because

he didn't have the right kind of superpowers

doesn't mean that he wasn't the genie personified.

What does the genie do? He morphs himself around,

does all these impersonations and impressions

and even different little inflections of his

voice and his physical comedy. That really was

Robin Williams, and it definitely drove the film.

huge range in this. I mean, you can see him in

all different kinds of extremes and in the middles

with his emotions. If you're looking towards

the end when the whole thing is transpiring with

Jafar and he's kind of forced to do these things

for him, you see how it affects him and you see

how all these things around him are affecting

him and how these relationships with Aladdin,

I guess it's mostly with Aladdin's relationship

with him. really does affect him and how he affects

everybody else around him as well it's it's an

amazing character and i think that there's there's

no arguing him in the top five speaking of aladdin

just real quickly We obviously had Aladdin show

up much earlier in the countdown. When we were

talking about villains, you brought up Jafar.

Anybody surprised that Jafar's name not thrown

into the mix with Cruella de Vil, Scar, and a

couple of those other villains that we got? Yes.

I mean, Scar had a song, guys. Jafar didn't have

a song. Jafar was like a weird perv, though.

He definitely took that evil... evil um i don't

know his his evil nature he went there man like

mustache twirling villain But I think it's Robin

Williams' fault because, again, when you remember

Aladdin, you're not thinking of Jafar. You're

thinking of the genie. You're going to think

of Iago before you think of Jafar. Yeah, exactly.

I know second movie, Jafar's Revenge or whatever

the fuck it is. Oh, jeez. Are we going to the

sequels? Disney sequels have been mentioned now,

folks, in a top 100 animated characters. We've

already mentioned those, I'm pretty sure. It's

never a good thing. So don't blame me, sir. All

right, let's move on then to our number three

pick. Let's see how many people have the top

three right. We've seen this show one time come

up today. Let's see it for a second time. We've

also seen this type of character represented

before. Our number three at 934 points. More

lists than any other character on the entire

countdown. Only two people left this character

off of their list. Homer Simpson. number three

so mr fridley sent and jd and the guys from in

session film not sure what you're thinking not

putting homer simpson in your top 100 those are

the only two people that left him off dan you

you had homer simpson number four he comes in

at number three what do you think What do you

say about Homer Simpson, really? We talked about

Bart, basically, where Simpson started as his

show. And then I think it got better when it

became Homer's show. And you got a lot more complex

stories. And I think you can do a little bit

more with Homer. And we talked about lovable

losers. And he's got to be there, too, as well.

There's always just something about him, though.

And if you're looking at one of the most influential

animated characters in the world of television,

probably top on that list. So I think if he was

not in the top five, this list would be irrelevant.

So I'm glad he's at least number three. Interesting,

too. I said he's on more lists than any other

character. Sketch, are you surprised that there

was not a single character that we could get

a unanimous vote on when it came to animated

characters? Nobody, no character appeared on

every single list. Is that surprising to you

that the closest we came was missing out on two

lists? Well, You know, there's people like Matt

that just don't have their brain on straight.

Leaving out Bugs Bunny. Yeah, he did reveal that

when he was on the first episode. So it also

left Homer Simpson off. I blame him for Tom and

Jerry not doing better. I do. Yeah, he also did

not vote for Tom and Jerry. All right. So, Sketch,

what do you think of Homer Simpson? You had him

at 15. He comes in at number three. I think Homer's

worthy of the top ten. He's arguably more worthy

than Fred Flintstone because, like Dan said,

you can do more with Homer than you can do with

Fred because of limitations. And Homer's had

all kinds of emotional arcs. He's been endearing.

He's been hilarious. He's been a bad dad. He's

been kind of a good dad. And there's so many

layers to Homer. And he's the core component

of that show now. It used to be Bart, but now

it's Homer. And the show continues on because

Homer's always got some kind of hijinks that

he can get up to. But he's also really relatable

because he has everyday problems and he faces

them usually like most people would. Maybe not

always. I don't know. I think maybe a little

too high, but... I've seen other lists where

Homer's made the top three, and I guess I don't

disagree with it, per se. Because the character's

been existing for so many years, so many episodes,

and has evolved and gotten better, maybe got

worse at some points, but is really an endearing

character, an entertaining character, and a well

-rounded character, despite being a little one

-note. yeah i mean it's homer amanda agree or

disagree homer being in the top three ah man

top five ten probably ten i would say um but

look at how long their fucking show has been

going on and how many seasons has had it's still

going so not a lot of these characters on the

list can say the same thing and a lot of that

chalks up to Mr. fucking Homer here. So I think

that it's definitely got an argument for where

it should be, and I'm not going to dispute it.

DJ, thoughts on Homer Simpson? Obviously quite

a bit ahead of Bart, and in our top three, you

think that's justified? I mean, the longevity

of this show, as you guys are saying, I mean,

from Tracy Ullman to now, I think of all the

characters on The Simpsons, Homer has made the

biggest, has changed the most. I think Bard is

still kind of, if you watch the Tracy Ullman

Bard and you watch the new Bard, it's different,

but it's relatively the same. Homer from the

Tracy Ullman was, it's almost night and day from

what he is now. So I think just because... as

we were saying before, how it started off Bart

and then became Homer, and it's still Homer,

and it's going to ride out on Homer as long as

possible. He deserves to be probably top 10.

I don't know about top three. I don't think I'd

put him over the genie, but I would say top 10.

All right, so Homer Simpson is our number three

pick. Two. If you don't know who our top two

are... I don't know what to tell you, but go

seek medical attention immediately. The only

question is, which order are they coming in?

The thing is, more people had Homer Simpson on

their list than had either of these characters

because three people left each of these characters

off of their list entirely. I will say that interesting

twist of fate here. The one that comes in number

two. the one that's going to be our second spot,

actually on 67 % of the people that voted for

the characters voted our number two higher than

the number one. So most people actually voted

number two higher than number one. There's just

a couple outliers that really kind of swung the

vote a little bit. So I'll give you both of them

real quick, and we'll talk about both of them

as a group, I guess. Our number two with 1 ,097

points and our number one had 1 ,111 points.

So not a great deal of point differential. Number

two will be Bugs Bunny and number one will be

Mickey Mouse. I had Bugs Bunny higher. Dan had

Bugs Bunny higher. Doug had Bugs Bunny higher.

TV's Mr. Neal, David, Kristen, Talking in Circles,

and Sketch all had Bugs Bunny higher. But there

was a couple people that had Bugs Bunny much

lower on their list. We had Bugs Bunny showing

up at number 23 on one person's list and 37 on

two people's list. So that's what's really causing

the difference there. So we'll just start with

Amanda and we'll go around the panel. You can

talk about either character. You can talk about

the order. You can talk about are these two deserving

as being the top two, Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny.

I don't think that there was any question that

these guys were going to be in the positions

that they were in. I think arguably Mickey Mouse

has probably made more money, so let's do that.

Okay. Put him at the top. But I think more...

I don't want to say iconic because they're both

probably pretty spot on, but I think the more

lovable and personable, even though he's a fucking

rabbit, would be Bugs Bunny. Okay. Dan, interesting,

too, to look at it this way. Only one person

had Mickey Mouse rank number one. Only one person

out of the submitters had Mickey Mouse number

one, yet Mickey Mouse comes in at number one.

Five people. had Bugs Bunny as their number one

pick. Not a lot of points, obviously, only 14

points separating them, so it didn't take much.

But what do you think of these two being at the

top two? It makes sense. It's highly predictable,

and I don't know. I think it is the right move

in a lot of ways. I rank Bugs Bunny higher. You

probably can't do this list without Mickey Mouse

in some way. Obviously, he kind of started it

all and has continued to this day, and we have

an entire empire. of multimedia built upon his

creation. So you can't deny that his impact on

animation and just entertainment in general and

Bugs Bunny along those same lines. But I always

enjoyed Bugs Bunny more as a character, and I

think he has that influence as well as just being

hugely entertaining to this day to a variety

of ages. We're watching a Mickey Mouse cartoon

as an adult now. I don't get much out of it,

but I do with Looney Tunes. I think it's smarter.

It's a little bit, I wouldn't say higher brow,

but I think it's going for something a little

bit more complicated than what Disney did with

Mickey Mouse. It kind of just went towards the

kids' audience for the most part. So I think

that led to it not being as great of a character

as the one like Bugs Bunny. But I think one or

two, you could... You know, one, you could go

back and forth either or. But, you know, it makes

sense. It's where I thought we had ended up and

we're ending up here. Yeah, I had Bugs Bunny

ranked at number two and actually Mickey Mouse

down at number six. I just think Bugs Bunny is

a little bit more interesting of a character.

Mickey Mouse is probably the more iconic character

if we go about it that way. DJ, what do you think

of this? You guys in In Session Film had a big...

part in this actual, the final two spots, because

you guys had Mickey Mouse at 13 and Bugs Bunny

at 37. In Session Film had Mickey Mouse at 6

and Bugs Bunny at 37. So it was the two gaps

between those two that basically probably played

the most part of this. There was one person that

had Bugs Bunny at 1 and Mickey Mouse at 49, which

offset part of that. But what do you think of

these two being atop the 100? It makes sense.

I mean, it's academic. And for, I guess, a couple

of years now on the show, the podcast I'm on

and on In Session, I've been doing this horrible,

horrible, evil Mickey Mouse impersonation. And

we started doing it just for the simple fact

that it. We thought it would be funny to make

such a beloved character evil and megalomaniacal.

Especially since he was making so much money.

Yeah, yeah. Because, one, he's the most beloved

cartoon character that your brain just goes to

automatically. Bugs Bunny is right there. Don't

get me wrong. But Mickey Mouse is the face of...

Disney, the most powerful conglomerate on the

planet. The frog is the face of Warner Brothers,

not even Bugs Bunny. But no, I mean, Mickey Mouse

is, you can't avoid him. He's hiding in every

Disney film, whether he's in it or not. There's

hidden Mickeys everywhere. So yes, Mickey Mouse

is, it makes sense for him to be number one.

Bugs Bunny being number two, those are the top.

You were telling me about this list. I'm like,

okay, well, one will be Mickey, two will be Bugs,

and then everything else will flesh out after

that because those are the two guys. DJ, have

you seen Mickey on South Park? Yes, I have seen

Mickey Mouse. The Jonas Brothers? Yes, I have

seen that. I based my impersonation off of that

episode, and there was this radio host down in

Florida named Neil Rogers who did kind of the

same thing where Mickey Mouse is this evil, horrible

person. He's like the Donald Trump of Disney

where he's just running everybody ragged and

stuff like that. And South Park does that because...

When you think of Mickey, you think of this adorable

icon. He's the franchise. He runs that whole

thing. I can't see Mickey Mouse not being number

one. Sketch, any thoughts on Mickey Mouse and

Biggs Bugs Bunny? I can't talk anymore. Bugs

Bunny. Oh, boy. I see where everybody's coming

from with Mickey being more iconic. That's true.

I think At least most of the people that ranked

Bugs Bunny higher did so because they liked Bugs

Bunny more. They felt Bugs Bunny was a more fleshed

out character that you could do more with Bugs

Bunny. And that would be my reasons why I would

put him at number one and why I did put him at

number one. Because Bugs Bunny, he's had various

interpretations. He's at his best when he is

the ultimate troll. And he's absolutely hysterical.

You don't get that on Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse

is, he's the everyman, nice, cuddly character.

You know, he's the good guy. Bugs Bunny, arguably,

is not the good guy. I mean, there are worse

guys than Bugs Bunny, but he is the ultimate

troll. Bugs is a son of a bitch. Bugs is a son

of a bitch. There's no doubt about it. Yeah.

He's, ain't he a stinker? Yeah. So that is the

top 100. We're not going to go into a lot of

reactions because we're going to have a whole

wrap -up show where we talk about those characters

that didn't make it and this, that, and the other.

But I will give everybody on the panel a quick...

quick chance to have an initial reaction on the

list overall and and while you're giving your

initial reaction if you had somebody else in

your top five that ended up not being in the

top five when i asked you that question feel

free to let us know what that one was but initial

reaction amanda to the 100 characters overall

before we kind of really dig into it in the next

episode with this top one and two being revealed

it's kind of like So I knew that the whole time

why the fuck do we do this entire list? We knew

the whole time like no matter what these numbers

said these motherfuckers were gonna be at the

top Why do we do this whole list? I think we

lost our shit over a ton of the like lower ranked

um characters versus the ones at the top here

at the top we're just like yeah yeah yeah but

the bottom it was like 78 versus 79 and we're

like why the fuck did they go in here at this

level and not go up you know two more ranks to

this one and we kind of got a little bit more

antsy with those picks. So a little weird. Well,

to answer your question, the reason we do it

is obviously for the fun of the discussion and

the debate in general. But I think one of the

top five of mine. that I'm sad didn't make the

list, but not surprising, is Charlie B. Barkin

from All Dogs Go to Heaven. That was one of my

favorite, favorite movies when I was little.

It made me so freaking sad, but also so happy

at the same time. So I wish Charlie would have

been able to make the list. All right, so she

started a trend. She named one character that

she's most sad didn't make the list. Feel free

to join in on that if you'd like as well. Sketch,

you go next. What's your initial reactions on

the list? And why don't you give us your one

character that you're most sad. didn't make the

top 100 oh boy i think things generally fell

into place you know you you noticed my protests

at where goofy and tom and jerry landed i just

i don't even know guys that's and i i think some

of them were a little too high uh i i think for

the most part things fell into about where they

should be it's it's all right I mean, I had Kermit

at number four, and I felt like Kermit is a good

enough character to be top five. So I was a little

disappointed at that. As for... Not the character

that I'm most disappointed isn't there, but the

character that I'm just kind of baffled isn't

anywhere on this top 100. Pink Panther. No Pink

Panther. Plenty of love for silent characters.

I don't know. But as I have mentioned in prior

episodes, you have all failed me because neither

Shredder nor Krang are anywhere on this list.

DJ, what are your thoughts overall? Initially,

just a quick reaction as far as you've seen the

list now and what's your first take? I think

the top 10, other than a couple of surprises,

is fine. We knew the top two. I'm still kind

of pissed off that Elmo, a character I despise,

and Big Bird and Kermit, who were puppets, took

the spot of Mrs. Brisby from Secret of NIMH,

Brock Samson, and the Monarch. That pisses me

off right there because I love Mrs. Brisby. Speaking

of strong female characters in animation, that

character, Secret of NIMH, is one of the darkest.

darkest Don Bluth movies out there, and I grew

up watching it. Was that with the Nightmare stuff

in it? With the mice, and Dom Devil Louise is

the crow, and he likes to string, and they experiment

on him and make him smarter, and they escape

from the NIMH, the institute they were doing

the experiments on. Then they made a horrible,

horrible, horrible sequel on the video. But no,

Secret of NIMH is just one of my... A racket

stabbed in the back in that damn movie. But no,

Mrs. Brisbane's awesome. Brock and the Monarch

from the Venture Brothers is... i just think

the muppets should be off so those characters

could be it i'm selfish that way all right i

can you give us this what two characters wouldn't

make it i mean what two characters would have

made it if big bird and elmo were not on the

list who i think would have made it or who i

wanted to make it no no i'm asking kevin can

can you tell us who oh yeah tell us oh i don't

know Okay, I can give you the three characters

that would have been in if the three Muppets

would have been out. And all it's going to do

is it's going to reinforce the 90s love, I guess,

because the first one that missed was Angelica

Pickles from Rugrats, who missed by one point.

So she would have been in. Then we would have

had Meatwad. Yes. Okay. Meatwad over Master Shake?

And then the third character, actually, we would

have double -dipped into the Rugrats. It would

have been Chucky Finster. What? Can we take out

the Muppets? It would have been Chucky, Angelica,

and Meatwad as the three characters that would

have taken those places. That's like half my

list. The cast of Rugrats. If I'm going as far

as mine, I don't have too many complaints as

far as ones that I'm really sad didn't make the

list because out of my top 16 all made the list.

So I think if I was going a little bit deeper,

I had Fiverr. And then I had... Who? Fiverr.

Fival? No, Fiverr. From Watership Down. And then

I had... Yeah, yeah, that went real dark. And

then as far as a couple classic characters, I

had Heckle and Jekyll and Mr. Magoo and Woody

Woodpecker in my list that didn't. get any love

so those would be maybe the ones that i mentioned

just initial reaction overall i think uh my initial

reaction is i'm pretty happy with most of it

i think there's a little bit too much uh bias

towards disney movies and a little bit too much

bias towards 90s tv um so i would probably skew

those two back a little bit but other than that

i can't complain too much we'll have to dig more

into it once we have all the stats and the numbers

for next episode dan what's your initial reaction

and what character are you most sad didn't make

the list I guess Dumbo is one of my all -time

favorite characters, and he didn't make the list.

Which, anyway, if we're talking about characters

that don't say anything, I think he's up there

for me for sure. What do you think about Tim

Burton doing the live -action version of that?

I think Tim Burton doing anything on this point

is a good idea. Dan, what's your overall reaction,

though, as far as your first instinct now that

the list has been revealed? I mean, I'm certain

we can get into it in more detail. There's probably

some changes. I'm kind of looking at it, thinking

of my list. One thing I think I probably would

have done differently if I was making my personal

list was include shows more than once than I

did. I think some shows were highly underrepresented,

where some movies were maybe overly represented,

like The Lion King. So maybe something like South

Park or The Simpsons and even Family Guy. I think

Family Guy only had one. One character, I think

we mentioned. Futurama only had one as well.

So I think the... Even though we saw a 90s bias,

we didn't see a lot of the adult animation on

the list a great deal. So that was kind of surprising.

I'm happy with it. I think the top 25 is pretty

solid. There are maybe some changes here and

there. Maybe one or two you could argue didn't

belong. But I think overall the top 25 works.

And I think kind of like we said this with the

TV list we did last year, it's kind of like the

family feud, right? It's not necessarily... The

right answer is what people are most likely to

give you. The answers are most likely to give

you. So that's kind of what you end up with.

So some things may kind of seem out of place.

But I think overall, I'm happy to see some good

surprises. We got a lot of good animated characters,

which was great to see some classic characters

that show up in the top 10. So that's awesome.

But yeah, overall, I'm happy. Well, we'll get

into it. We'll break it down. We'll go into all

the different categories that we were talking

about. We'll see how we did in those subsections,

you know, pull out the Disney, pull out the Hanna

-Barbera, the Looney Tunes. We'll do all of that.

We'll look at a great deal of people that just

missed the list because, like I said, there was,

I'm trying to remember the number, 600 and some

characters that got votes. So we'll get into...

It was either 400 or 600, 465 characters that

received votes. So we'll get into a few of those,

at least those that were closest to making it.

And we'll do a lot of fun discussion and kind

of keep that debate going a little bit and give

some time for those that we haven't talked about

already in our wrap -up episode. We'll also get

into the feedback a little bit more as far as

the comments on the website and Facebook, Twitter,

wherever people have left comments on for that

as well. So it'll be a fun continuation of the

discussion if you haven't got your fix yet. animated

character talk and i'm sure after about what

the 10th or 12th hour of listening that you've

done you'll eventually tap out so um just to

give everybody a chance though to follow or hear
