of all time. Last episode, we revealed the first

set of 25 as we counted down numbers 100 through

76. And today we will tackle numbers 75 through

51. I am your host, Optimus Solo. And with me

for this episode, returning from last time, is

MovieRevoltDan. Hello. How's it going? Not too

bad. Excited to see what the reactions are this

week. We also have, again, returning HardCandyMandy.

Hello. Hello. And also returning from last episode

is Sketch. How are we doing, sir? I'm doing great,

guys. How are you doing? I'm doing good, doing

good. And then we have a new person along with

us for this second episode, but not new to the

fans of the Geekcast Radio Network. Joining us

today is TV's Mr. Neal. Hello. Hello. Neil, obviously

you were not on the record last time, but you

are aware of the 25 characters that we revealed

in that first episode. Just go to you first,

though, for your initial reaction on what you've

seen revealed so far and thoughts getting into

this episode. It's a very interesting mix. I

see Gumby, Dick Dastardly, Donatello, and Jessica

Rabbit all on the same list, and I don't think

I've ever seen that before. Very true. Yeah,

there was definitely a mixture. We weren't sure

what to expect getting into that first one, if

we would have one company or one type or time

period or anything like that dominate. But it

was definitely a mixture of a whole bunch of

different stuff as we saw both only three Disney

characters. We saw a handful of anime characters,

Hanna -Barbera, etc. Anything on that list, Neil,

that you are upset that it made the list or upset

that it's already been listed and not going to

be higher? Or anything that you're surprised

that made the list? I'm probably going to get

heat for this, but Gumby. Because I don't get

Gumby. I guess I'm more of a Wallace and Gromit

guy or something a little more... I don't know.

I think Gumby is just a little too, too old as

far as stop motion animation goes. Gotcha. He's

OG claymation. Of course, you know, then again,

my favorite movie is King Kong and it's even

older. So what am I saying? I don't know. Dan,

interesting mix that we got in that first episode.

Do you have any predictions on what we're going

to see today or any thoughts moving into today's

episode? I'm going to take a guess we're going

to get a little bit more Looney Tunes representation

this time around, because we really didn't get

much any last week. So I would think, you know,

with the multitude of characters that they have,

that we'll start seeing some creep in at this

end of the 50. Yeah, interesting to look at.

Last week, the only Warner Brothers character

that we really saw was not one of the classic

Looney Tunes characters. Instead, we got the

kind of wild card there with Slappy Squirrel.

as the one that was revealed. So we'll have to

see if you're right with the Looney Tunes. Amanda,

we talked about the mix between male and female

characters going into the first episode, and

we were not quite sure what to expect. We did

have about eight females show up in that first

set of 25. Do you think it'll be something similar

today, or will we have a drop -off or an increase?

That's really hard to tell because I think we've

had kind of a fair mix, maybe a little heavily

on the female side, honestly. So it'll be interesting.

interesting to see what kind of mix we get with

this all right and sketch uh just your thoughts

moving into this any predictions on what you're

gonna see dan saying maybe a few more the looney

tunes than we saw last week any thoughts on your

end i'm thinking we're gonna see some more of

those uh 90s characters from disney and warner

brothers but like the really iconic stuff won't

happen yet those those will probably wait All

right, we'll have to wait and see. The other

thing that we were kind of looking at a little

bit last week is good characters versus bad characters.

We only got four, quote -unquote, bad characters

last week. We'll have to see if we get more than

that when we move into this set of 25. So without

any further ado, let's get right into it with

our first name on the countdown. 75. Number 75

pick coming up here, and it's funny because it

was somewhat already mentioned here. So I'll

let Neil start with this one. We're going to

have Gromit. At number 75, talking about a little

bit of stop motion claymation type stuff. Neil,

what do you think of Gromit from Wallace and

Gromit starting off today's countdown? I love

Wallace and Gromit. Gromit is a good character

to have on this list because he doesn't talk.

He's just the dog. And that's, you know, I mentioned

Gumby earlier. And Gumby is very weird in how

he, you know, the way he talks. It doesn't sound

very natural to me. Here you have a character

who doesn't talk at all. And it's all done through

expression. I love expressionism in art. And

I wasn't really prepared for this. I'm surprised

that this showed up so quickly. But Wallace and

Gromit is a great cartoon. I don't really know

what else to say. I think I said it all. He's

a great silent character. Really pulls from the

greats like Harpo Marx and all that. It's a genius

character to have. Gromit originated in a short

in 1990, as you mentioned, a silent character.

And the second one we've already seen on the

countdown, if you count Snake Eyes from last

week's episode. Dan, you had this one ranked

pretty high. Are you upset that it's already

fallen off the list? Yeah, I'm actually kind

of surprised it's coming up. I guess not too

surprised because I know Wallace and Gromit may

not be huge with a lot of people, but those movies

are quite good in the shorts as well. So I definitely

think Gromit's a character, Wallace and Gromit

are putting together, at least deserve the top

50 for just how prevalent they've been, just

the number of shorts and how well made they are,

how great of a character. gromit is uh like you

like neil mentioned he's a character doesn't

talk much but animation has a lot of those great

characters and i think he's right up there um

so yeah a little disappointed to see him come

off the board already We had two people rank

this character in the top 20, and then we had

one person hit it on the head, actually. Kristen

had it at number 75, which is where it came in.

Sketch, you had it ranked, too, a little bit

higher at the 63rd spot. What do you think of

Gromit falling now? And it might open the debate,

I guess, for what we talked about briefly last

episode of those types of characters, if you

combine them or if you do not. We talked about

last week where we had a combination character

with Chip and Dale, both... equaling each other.

And here we have Gromit by himself. Maybe some

people will agree with that, maybe some people

will disagree, but it was based on how many people

actually voted on them separately, because quite

a few people listed them separately and in separate

areas of the countdown. But Sketch, what do you

think of Gromit coming in at number 75? I think

it's a fine place for Gromit. I like to see more

European representation on the list. It's good

to see that. I wanted to lump Wallace and Gromit

together, because they're a comedy duo, and you've

got to kind of have both of them to an extent.

Though Gromit by himself makes for a good character,

so I'm not really begrudging this, but I kind

of would be surprised to see Wallace show up

now. I think Gromit probably beat him out. We'll

have to wait and see on that one. Amanda didn't

make your list, but do you think he's top 100

worthy? And how many other silent characters

do you think we might still see? It did fly under

my radar a little bit. I have super limited exposure

to Walls of Gromit. I think I've only seen one

of the movies. I don't think I've seen any of

the shorts. If I did, I don't remember. But I

think that it's a solid pick. I think they are

great characters. I love the look of them, the

camaraderie that they have. I think I would have

lumped them together if I would have ranked them,

though. But as far as silent characters, there's

a ton of animated silent characters, so we'll

never know how many we could actually get. Alright,

so let the debate engage as far as the duos or

the splits on those characters. Moving into our

74th pick, Only Beats. grommet by one point and

dan we're gonna go to uh an early wb looney tunes

character with our 74th pick originating in the

1942 short we're gonna go with none other than

tweety bird so uh let you start on this one dan

what do you think of tweety making it as basically

our first classic uh looney tunes character interesting

tweety bird i of all the ones i don't think that

would be one i would I would go with, I don't

think, I didn't think I ranked Tweety Bird. It's,

again, another one you could, you know, do you

lump him with, there's almost a trio there. So,

I mean, certainly Tweety Bird is iconic in a

lot of ways. I think as an image you see a lot

of people, like even clothing wear, Tweety Bird

tends to have some popularity. And, you know,

it's a character everyone roots for. It's the

ultimate underdog who, you know, is just trying

to not get eaten by a cat. So, yeah, I mean.

Not one of my personal favorite characters, but

I can't deny that it's probably one of the most

prevalent characters of all Looney Tunes. So

it makes me wonder, you know, what other Looney

Tunes characters are on their way? Because I

didn't expect Tweety Bird to make the top 100,

to be honest. I'm going to throw that question

at Amanda because half of us have Tweety on our

list and the other half did not. Amanda, what

does that mean for the future of this countdown

and how many other Looney Tunes characters? If

we're seeing Tweety at number 74, does that mean

we're in for a lot more to come? Or is Tweety

kind of the cream of the crop? I feel like we

will see a lot more, even though Tweety is pretty

popular. I think one of my aunts wore so much

Tweety bird memorabilia, it was like weird to

me. But I think that... And despite that, I would

say 90s clothing nostalgia. I don't know. We

could get a lot more because I don't think that

this definitely is the tip top of it yet. All

right. Neil, I'm going to go to you next because

you and I actually had this one fairly close.

I had it ranked number 77 and you had him at

75. He comes in at 74. So did we nail this one

on the head? I think of all the Warner Brothers

characters, all the Looney Tunes characters,

this is. the one I would rank the lowest. It's

probably where it should be. My thing with Tweety

is that he's kind of a one -note character. All

the jokes in the Tweety cartoons is, you know,

Sylvester getting beat over the head with Granny's

parasol or running away from the dog or stuff

like that. Sylvester's the comedy character.

Tweety is just kind of like, you know, he has

one catchphrase and otherwise he doesn't do anything.

So I think he's where he should be. All right.

And Sketch, you were one of the ones that did

not have Tweety on your countdown. So do you

think there's more worthy Looney Tunes characters

out there and Tweety maybe should be left on

the outside looking in? There's definitely more

worthy Looney Tunes characters. Tweety is still

very iconic, so I'm not too surprised for Tweety

to be on the list. And I think if Tweety is going

to be on this list, that this is around the space

that Tweety should reside in. Whereas other...

Looney Tunes characters will definitely some

of them are sure to make the top 10 we'll have

to wait and see on that 73 getting into our first

tie of the day here we had two characters tie

for the next spot with 279 points and the loser

on that as far as losing the tie breaking is

going to be our first female character of the

day and also our first Disney character. And

that would be the character of none other than

Minnie Mouse. Minnie Mouse, coming from all the

way back in 1928. Amanda, we'll start with you

on this one. Surprised that Minnie Mouse is in

the 70s and not higher? I think that Minnie Mouse,

solid choice. Sad to see her a little low. I

mean, she's one of the OGs. As far as animation

goes, I would have liked to see her a little

bit higher up, but she's not too standout -ish

for me anyway. She wasn't one of the characters

that I latched onto, even as a little girl. So

I can kind of see it, especially since this is

kind of like a male -driven list. So sad to see

her go so soon, but glad that she's on the list

anyways. Well, let's turn it to the male -driven

panel here that we have as well, because Dan...

neil and sketch none of you guys had mini mouse

on your list so let's start with dan is it just

a factor that there was other disney characters

that were more worthy is is the mickey factor

something that leaves her in the dust or what

was the reasoning for mini mouse not quite making

your list yeah i guess as a character i don't

like Yeah, I feel like she's iconic, but I felt

like you can kind of cover that with Mickey in

a way. And, you know, if I were to think of a

characteristic of her, I can't really even think

of one, to be honest. So, I mean, beyond just

being a symbol and, you know, being have a place

in history, you know, obviously being part of

Disney and whatnot. But I just as a character

for the stronger ones that represent. that are,

you know, much more dynamic than she is. And

I can't really even think of something that really

is rememberable from her in any, any way. And

maybe that's more of a Testament to like the

movie making of the time. But yeah, I mean, I

guess I don't have an issue with her being on

the list, but when I was making my list, she

never really came to my mind. I can see both

sides of this one because I had her ranked at

82, just barely snuck her in there. But I can

agree with a lot of the points you're making,

so I can kind of see the argument for her being

left off or her being more towards the bottom

of the list. Neil, what do you think? Agree or

disagree with what Dan was saying as far as why

Minnie Mouse should not quite be on the list?

Yeah, the thing with Minnie Mouse is if you ask

me to describe her, what you would hear me say

is... She's basically Mickey Mouse, Control -C,

Control -D. And I don't know. When I think of

OG female characters, I'm usually thinking of

Olive Oil, who is a lot funnier than Minnie Mouse.

Minnie is just kind of... She's Mickey with a

skirt. It's a terrible thing to say, but it's

kind of true. What's really memorable about her

is her ears, which Mickey already has, and her

bow, really. Yeah. She's the Ms. Pac -Man of

early cartoons, basically. I think that's a decent

comparison there as well. We'll have to see if

maybe we'll get some hate from our lack of love

for Minnie Mouse, but she is on the countdown.

She does make her spot here at the 73rd. One

of my favorite books when I was little was actually

a Minnie Mouse book, and it was probably the

only thing that I liked of Minnie Mouse, and

it was a summer party book, and it was amazing,

but it was a book. It wasn't anything of her,

actually. like on screen all right sketch uh

last thoughts on minnie mouse i kind of feel

like she's just she's iconic but like everybody

else said not not that much of a character and

i kind of feel bad for thinking that but it is

what it is i feel like there's a lot of other

female characters that were more worth having

on the list All right, so we'll have to see which

of those female characters do show up and which

ones are left off at the end when we go through

our honorable mentions. But let's stick in the

world of female characters for the other half

of this tiebreaker. 72. Tied with Minnie Mouse,

but beating her out in the tiebreaker process

is an actual group of female characters. So let

that debate begin as well. And we're going to

go to the 1990 characters of the Powerpuff Girls.

What? With our number 72 pick. So Hannah Barbera

slash Cartoon Network, whoever you want to attribute

those characters to, originating in 1995. Another

set of female characters here. And we'll start

with you, Amanda, since you had the first reaction.

You had them ranked at 78. they come in at 72.

So I was pretty dang close. I think that they

are a unit, but definitely have individual personalities

that... As a girl, you're like, oh, which one

of the Powerpuff Girls am I? You try to identify

with one of them, but you have fun with all of

them. I think there was a bunch of funny things

in there, even a bunch of adult humor that was

played off really well. Loved all the episodes

of all their villains and supporting characters.

So solid show. Love all the Powerpuff Girls,

really. I think I was more bubbles, though. Obviously,

there is multiple characters here that we're

talking about, which, again, some people list

them all together. broke them up. So those that

did break them up, we went with the highest one

that was rated out of the ones they chose to

list. So that's kind of how we went around that.

Whether that was right or wrong, we'll leave

that to the peanut gallery. But Neil, that means

that you had it as the highest member of the

Powerpuff Girls at 31. Sketch, you had your highest

one at number 36. Start with you, Neil. What

do you think of the Powerpuff Girls making the

countdown? I think they should have been a little

higher than this. But yeah, I had them all ranked

differently. I definitely like Blossom the best.

Maybe they are where they should be because I'm

having a little trouble kind of recalling exactly

what was good about the characters. I think I

like the show in general a lot more than any

of the individual characters here. I'm just going

to let Sketch jump in because you had mentioned

one of them. Amanda mentioned one of the individual

characters, and Neil, you mentioned a second

one. Sketch, where do you fall as far as was

there one that stood out more than you, or do

you think as a group they're just better off?

I think they're better off as a group. If I had

to be pushed to it, I think probably Bubbles

was the... most worthwhile to have on the list

if you could only pick one but i mean it's really

hard that's like as hard or more difficult than

trying to pick a ninja turtle So, I think they

work better as a unit, and like Ninja Turtles,

like the Chipmunks, you know, all of their personalities

play off each other. I mean, it's kind of cliche,

but it works. Buffles, you work on Fringed Donnie.

Buttercup and I will take care of Mojo and Chelsea.

I broke glitter! I'll take the Cobb salad and

the horchata. Oh, Donny. I'm just glad you're

okay. Still BFFs, right? You call this horchata?

Chelsea, crush the last puny pup girl. That's

her dopey unicorn friend. Okie dokie, artichokey.

You can't destroy us or our friendship. And I

don't know where I am. Donny was never your BFF.

Yes, he is. That stupid spoon won't save you

now. As far as the placement goes, I think this

is too soon. They really should be in the top

50, I feel. But we're doing a lot better than

the previous list, which I recall Powerpuff Girls

was barely in the top 100 cartoons. Oh, yeah,

on the Top 100 animated series. Now, Dan, PowerCraft

Girls not represented on my list or your list.

Any specific reason why or just a lack of exposure

to them, or what do you feel like their worthiness

is? I don't think they're worthy of a Top 100.

I just honestly didn't. I had trouble thinking

of putting them together or separate. I like

the show, and I think similar to Neil, I was

like, okay, I like the show, and then we think

about the characters, and I'm like, well, yeah,

I don't know if it's the characters. I think

the one I came close to. ranking wasn't the Powerpuff

Girls, but Mojo Jojo, because I enjoyed him as

a character. But they are kind of like, on the

onset, they do kind of look like a gimmick, right?

Just these little girls that can punch people,

but it ends up really working, and it's just

much more clever, and it made me feel really

old when you said that you were from 1995. I

didn't realize that they started that long ago.

They had one of the only transgender villains

in cartoons I've ever seen. Alright. It was like

the devil, but it was like a chick and a dude.

It was like Sir or something. Him. Him, yes.

Sir him. Yeah. All right. On that note, let's

go to our next spot on the countdown. 71. Beating

those two out by only one point. That's how close

it is here at this part of the countdown. So

only one point ahead, but we are going to have

yet another female character at our 71st spot

and another Disney character. See who this upsets

and who it doesn't because we talked a little

bit of last week as far as which Disney princesses

would show up. up as we had Mulan quote -unquote

princess at number 78 and seven spots higher

at number 71 is Elsa from obviously the movie

Frozen or if you want to go with the Snow Queen

all the way back to 1844 depending on which version

you want to talk about Elsa makes our list a

little bit ahead of Mulan so I'm going to start

with Amanda because I know I believe you even

made a comment when Mulan was on that if one

of the I don't know if you said Frozen and bitches

next to it makes it higher that you were gonna

have a reaction yeah a little upset but uh i

get it because everybody went ape shit bananas

over that uh movie and those characters i liked

her she's solid but i i just had more of a connection

with you know the others from my childhood i

think maybe i think the song is what kind of

turned me off of it It's a cool song, but I get

played out so much. Everybody went so stupid

over it that I was just like, I can't like this

because everybody else is liking it too much.

One of those. But it just bothered me that it

was just everywhere. She's a super cool character,

though. I think that she is worthy of some kind

of list. It might be too soon for me, though,

for her to be on this list. I think there's just

so many greats that could be on this list. you

know i don't know if we've had enough time to

to really process that she's top 100 worthy or

not Well, the main reason she's fallen at this

spot in our list is because three people that

submitted lists had this character in their top

20, including now, this is actually the second

example. Last week, we saw one number one fall

when Space Ghost went out, which Fridley Scent

had at his number one spot, and Elsa had a number

one spot for somebody as well. So Elsa was number

one on one of the submitted lists. Who the hell

was it? Because I don't want to be friends with

them ever. Wow, that's brutal. No, and number

one, Elsa? Out of all the animated characters

in the friggin' world, Elsa at number one. Or

Candy Mandy making friends here. No, I am not

here to make friends. Somebody really wanted

to make sure Elsa got on the list. I guess so,

because I did have Elsa in the 90s, but nobody

else here had Elsa ranked at all, so maybe we're

going to present the counter -argument, perhaps.

Let's start with you, Sketch. Elsa not deserving,

especially seven spots ahead of Mulan. Mulan

got robbed, plain and simple. Reels. Like, Elsa,

remember when, who said it, who was defending

Heathcliff last time? Probably me. No, no, it

was Matt. Yeah, Matt said that Garfield stole

Heathcliff's whole thing and became the more

popular one. That's kind of how I feel like with

Elsa versus Mulan. Don't you? I mean, I see it

that way. Well, everybody was all like, oh, she

was all, I don't need a man, girl power, whatever.

But she wasn't the first one to do that. So it

wasn't as novel as everybody made it seem like.

And dude, I'm a frosty bitch just like she is.

And I'm not on this 100, top 100 list. So I don't

get it. Top 100 podcast commentators. Yeah, there's

still spots to go. Maybe you got write -in votes

or something. TV Mr. Neil, what do you think?

I think I would flip. uh mulan and uh and elsa

just because it does seem reversed but i think

if i don't i don't know if i don't know if they

should be higher or not because there are a lot

of great cartoon characters but of all the disney

princesses i think these if these two are at

least among the strongest i mean uh some of the

older disney princesses like snow white and uh

and Sleeping Beauty, they don't really do anything.

The nice thing about Frozen is that the characters

are actually involved in the story. It's actually

about them. They do things. I don't know if I'd

say that they're among the best cartoon characters

ever, but at least they're that interesting.

I bet that they're on the list, I guess. Let's

take a look at it through that scope then that

you kind of presented, Dan. If we're looking

at just Disney princesses, are these two of the

more worthy? Or if we already had these two,

are you expecting to see a bunch more? It depends

on what you're basing it off. If you're looking

at quality of character, I would say definitely.

Because like you mentioned, characters like Snow

White, Cinderella, they're coming from time period

and storytelling technique where they're kind

of... They're the wallflowers. They're not there

to move the story forward. The story's happening

around them for the most part. Also, I think

what's interesting about her as a character is

that I really wouldn't even compare her to Malin

because she's not necessarily the antagonist

or the protagonist. She's kind of someplace in

between. And I think that's what's kind of interesting

about her character and what I think a lot of

people were able to identify with Frozen was

the struggles that she went through as a character.

She's very relatable and... You can certainly

have a lot of compassion for her as a character

and still being a strong role character. And,

you know, she does sing what is probably the

most iconic Disney song. Yes, it's over, you

know, overused and overplayed, but it is probably

the, before that was the last time a Disney song

was overplayed or overused. It was a very long

time since, you know, Disney had a song that

people actually cared about. Circle of life,

Lion King, boom. Yeah. That was 20 years ago.

Right. So it was. It was a long time period before

that happened, so it did kind of re -energize.

Obviously, we had movies like Tangled and stuff

like that before Frozen, but I think Frozen kind

of exploded it again and kind of continued the

Disney Renaissance. And Elsa was certainly a

huge part of that. all you had to do was go to

halloween that year and see or the next year

after that and to see how every girl under the

age of 12 or over the age of 12 really not every

girl amanda not to i'm sure you'll say no uh

dressed up as elsa in some way so she certainly

has a huge popularity which is probably you know

like we're quoting things like lion king and

aladdin well the next generation that's going

to be frozen for a lot of people and it's going

to be elsa so um i do think that she's a character

that you know i didn't have her on my list but

I don't have an issue and I think this place

for her is fine Amanda we gave you the first

word why don't we give you the last word on this

one well Dan I'm glad you didn't rank her so

we can still be friends because we have a lot

of podcasting to do still but I think that she

just kind of shit on what the other Disney princesses

before her set up like okay Snow White Sleeping

Beauty we mentioned them they're not doing much

but what do they represent they set up grace

and elegance and kindness and just being genuine

and without even having to having to do much

at all they inspired people around them people

loved them for who they were and it showed girls

you know as a standard then and then Elsa comes

in and just shits all over it and like freezes

people and stuff like not cool I'll disagree

with that somewhat outside of Cinderella because

I wouldn't lump Cinderella in with Snow White

and Sleeping Beauty but I think the thing that

Elsa has going for her over those types of characters

is I think she is more real because I think Snow

White and Sleeping Beauty are representing this

fake image that it's like the Hollywood image

of what a woman should be like or the classic

but I think what Elsa gives you is she's actually

dealing with like a real issue and real like

turmoil as far as coming to a decision on what

she should do and what she shouldn't do based

on the hand that she's been dealt. So, I mean,

I think there's a lot more depth to a character

like Elsa than we get with some of these classic

characters. I don't think it's all about, well,

Snow White or Sleeping Beauty was elegant or

classy or nice. It's not that, no. It's a grace

and it's a way to carry yourself and to be a

genuine kind. That's a base that they set up.

This is her dealing with tragedy and dealing

with stuff. she didn't deal with it very well

at all. And look where Snow White got locked

up. A lot of people don't deal with tragedy well,

but that was the whole purpose of the whole film

was kind of her overcoming that and coming to

terms with that. So I think there's a character

arc there. Maybe, but I just don't think that

she's been around long enough and I don't think

she taught me anything. What if you're lumping

her in with the Snow Queen? What if that's what

people's logic was? That it's all similar characters

and the Snow Queen goes back to the 1800s? Does

that give her more credence to show up on the

list if we're combining that version? But we

aren't. Maybe some people did when they ranked

her. Who the hell even knows about that? Hans

Christian Andersen? Fuck, he's dead. Jesus. All

right. We could have voted. We don't know. I

reached out to people, man. I have sources. Elsa's

popular, so I'm not surprised that she's on the

on before Amanda gets too upset with all of us.

We're going to break one trend because we've

had three female characters in a row. So we're

going to go away from that. But we're going to

stick with the fact that we've had now our third

Disney character so far. And this one's going

to be a little bit of a different type of character,

I guess. And for our number 70, we're going to

go to none other than Jiminy Cricket from the

1940 film. coming in quite a few points, four

points higher than Elsa and the rest there. So

let's see what people's reaction to is of Jiminy

Cricket versus maybe get away from the Disney

princesses a little bit. Dan, we'll start with

you. What do you think? I like Jiminy Cricket

a lot as a character. You know, he's that ultimate

consciousness, and he showed up in a bunch of

different things within Disney. I think last

time we talked about Tinkerbell, she was kind

of the icon. You use this iconic image for Disney,

and so was Jiminy Cricket in a lot of ways in

the 50s, 60s. You saw him in a lot of different

things, especially produced by Walt Disney. So

I really like him here as a character. just his

longevity for sure. So yeah, I think it's a good

placing. All right, Amanda, you did have Jiminy

Cricket on your list. So more in favor of this

one? Yeah, I love Jiminy Cricket. He also taught

me one of my first cuss words because he said

jackass. So I loved him. I loved his heart. I

think that he had a... His voice was, like, really

calming and assuring, and I loved his look. I

loved his tough love. I think that he's an all

-around great character, and he embodies a lot

of good things. All right, Sketch, you also had

Jiminy Cricket. You had him ranked at 87. It's

coming in here at number 70, so are you fairly

happy with where he's landing here? Yeah, I think

this is a good place for Jiminy. He's one of

those great, iconic... Disney movie characters

that had a lifespan beyond his initial movie

in Pinocchio. And he's great in Pinocchio. But

he also has all of those other things that he

was in. And he's a fantastic character. The embodiment

of a conscious. That's a great character to have.

And Elsa could have used one, huh? Neil, you

did not have Jiminy Cricket on your list. So

what's your opinion? Contrary to what you've

heard so far from the other three? He's a good

character. His most distinguishing characteristic

probably is that really silky smooth voice that

he has. Otherwise, I don't know. He just never

really appealed to me that much. You know, there

was a Ren and Stiffy cartoon that kind of made

fun of him called Jiminy Lummox. And the whole

point of the cartoon was that the character of

the conscious really doesn't have anything to

do with the story. And I can't help but see that

now. It's like he doesn't. You could tell the

story of Pinocchio without him. Pinocchio can

learn all the lessons without Jiminy. I can't

help but see that now. I don't think he's a bad

character. I just didn't rank him. I don't know.

Characters fall into a very limited number of

categories for me. Either they're funny or they

have something to do with the story. They move

the plot along. He just doesn't do anything really

except just be there and sound nice because he

has a nice voice. He tries. I'll agree that he

has a nice voice, but I think one thing that

Sketch brought up is somewhat important, that

for me it was much more than just a character

from the film. I think he had a presence in different

ways, shapes, or forms afterwards, but also I'm

not a big fan of Pinocchio as a film, and he

was my favorite character in that. I want to

live to be 93. I play safe for you and me, cause

I'm no fool. As I said to Pinocchio, Pinoc, there's

two ways to do anything, the right way and the

wrong way. If you want to be right, do things

the right way. Because if you do things the wrong

way, that's the foolish way. And only fools do

things the foolish way, which is the wrong way.

Right? Anyway, let's see. Where was I? Anyone

can be a fool and do things which are wrong.

But fools find out when it's too late that they

don't live so long. That movie was basically

a horror film for kids. Yeah, it was scary. I

actually had Jiminy Cricket in the top 20, I

think, just for more of the... kind of moral

compass that he was representative of for kids

i guess maybe or kind of that that kind of character

because we don't necessarily i mean every once

in a while you do get like the little angel and

devil character type thing and pop up in a cartoon

but to have a character that's that's basically

that is his thing is trying to help decipher

good from bad i guess resonated a little bit

more for me so i had him actually in the top

20 so i'm i didn't expect him to be that high

but i am happy that he made the countdown because

sometimes i was thinking maybe with the disney

characters that some of the smaller characters

some of the more side characters might be left

behind in favor of like we talked about disney

princesses or different things like that so i'm

happy that he's on the list so 69. All right.

One point ahead of that at number 69. I guess

we're in a rut here, if you want to look at it

that way, because we're going to stay with Disney

and we're going to go back to female characters

here. So number 69, we're going to flip it a

little bit, though, because we're going to go

with our first villain of the day. And that would

be none other than Maleficent from the 1959 film,

famously voiced by Susan Blakeslee and a lot

of different things. Amanda. We've had some Disney

princesses. We've had Jiminy Cricket outscoring

all of them as our first villain of the day,

Maleficent. What do you think? I think it's a

solid choice. I think that even the Angelina

Jolie rendition aside, she's a very memorable

villain. And I don't know if the original animated

version of her was as in -depth. as, you know,

of course the Angelina Jolie one was, but I think

that we can get a pretty good sense of who she

was as a villain, and super cool, because she

can turn into a friggin' dragon. Dragon points,

for sure. I want to go to Neil and Sketch before

we go to Dan and myself, because we're going

to both represent two different halves, I think,

a little bit, because Neil and Sketch, you guys

did not have Maleficent on there. How did you

go about looking at villains or looking at Disney

villains? Does she not stack up against those,

or was there just not room? Let's start with

you, Sketch. Yeah, I had her on my list at a

point, and then she got bumped for other villains,

actually. I'm pretty sure the one that I did

bump her for will show up on the list eventually.

I have no problem with her being on the list.

I kind of figured she would be, based on... the

total of everybody's votes so yeah i'm okay with

it but i just didn't find room for her on my

list neil are you okay with it or do you think

this is taking up a spot that should be better

served for somebody else i'm okay with it in

fact i think it should be a lot higher because

it is such an awesome character i think my problem

is that i just had kind of a blind spot to villains

when i when i made my list i'm looking at it

and i have basically all marquee characters so

it's like the big star of the cartoon is the

character i put in maleficent is one of the one

of the first uh disney disney villains that i

think is really legitimately scary you know aside

from the whale and uh in pinocchio obviously

i mean she was scary i mean like like when i'm

five i'm hiding under the under the table from

this character um yeah i love her i think I think

she should be a lot higher, and I wish I'd ranked

her. I mean, that might have been the thing.

Maybe some people didn't just have, I guess,

the thought to look at some of the villains of

these shows or of these films. Just wasn't thinking

about it. Dan, do you think that's a good reason

for why she's coming down already? Because you

and I had her ranked very high. I had her at

14, and you had her at 16. So I'll let you go

first. Yeah, I'm actually really surprised she's

already coming up. i mean when i was doing my

list i did think of okay what are some classic

i did you know purposely want to make sure that

i included villains and i'm like okay what are

some of the most iconic villain animated characters

and she was one that first came to my mind And

and honestly, honestly, a lot of it is just the

look of the character is a big part of it. I

think she just looks evil and menacing. And I

mean, so much so when they actually made the

live action movie, you can see they just basically,

OK, we'll just go with that. So, yeah. And like

Neil Neil mentioned, she was a rather scary villain

with a huge with a. ginormous presence and for

the longest time maybe no one even came close

to stacking up to her when it came to disney

villains and maybe we'll get to some that have

come close since but yeah i i'm kind of shocked

to see see her fall i think definitely in the

realm of disney and animation uh she holds a

special place so i would i would definitely put

her in the other top of other half of the top

50 obviously because she was in my top 20 as

you mentioned so a little disappointed i agree

with you I kind of looked at them as a group

because we talked about this a little bit in

the first episode, too, that with certain things,

you're going to put everything together. And

what's the best out of that? So like Disney princesses,

if you're not going to want to rank all of them,

you're going to say, well, what are the one or

two best ones? And I kind of did that with Disney

villains. I said, which villains for Disney really

stand out? And for me, Maleficent's probably

one of the best, if not top two or top three

Disney villains we've ever gotten. So that's

why Maleficent was as highly ranked for me. I

think she's a pretty great character. Great character.

She's scary. She's got the look. She's got the

magic. She turns into a dragon. I mean, there's

a lot of things going for her. So for me, she

kind of stands out. I can see one or two other

ones showing up, but I would be a little upset

if there was like five or six other ones ahead

of her because I don't think that would be the

justice being served there with the Disney villains.

Amanda, any other thoughts on Maleficent before

we move on? I don't know. I don't know if I agree

with that. I think there's a few more super evil

villains. that could pop up here that are worthy.

We'll see. Okay, we'll have to wait and see.

Dan, are you worried so far? As we start this,

we'll take a quick side note here. We've had

four Disney characters, and we've, not that it's

a bad thing, but are you worried that we're going

to have a Disney -fied episode today? Well, part

of me says yes, but then if a character like

Maleficent and Elsa are already going, maybe

not. Maybe the Looney Tunes are a lot higher

than I anticipated. I don't know. We'll see.

Maybe we'll get one more anime character. We'll

have to wait and see. But something that I believe,

Sketch, you mentioned earlier is that we might

be seeing some 90s characters, and that's where

we're going to be going next. 68. We're going

to go again to another kind of Hanna -Barbera

slash Cartoon Network character that originated

on TV in 1996, and that is none other than Dexter

from Dexter's Laboratory. So, Sketch, we'll let

you go first. You actually had Dexter ranked

at 74. He's coming in at 68. How do you feel?

I feel pretty good about that. Of those old Cartoon

Network shows, I really wanted to whittle it

down to the ones that really stood the test of

time, in my opinion, and Dexter's Laboratory,

for sure. Marvelous cartoon. And, you know, there's

been so many shows that have imitated it since

then that I will not name. Okay. No, I got no

beef with Phineas and Ferb. They arguably improved

the formula. But Dexter's Laboratory... It had

that great chemistry between Dexter and Dee Dee.

It was kind of hard not to pair those two also.

Good night, Einstein. Good night, Major Glory.

Good night, Ghost of Dead Fishy. Diddy, did you

also see the slimy, disgusting spook fish that

just nearly killed me? No. I just like to run

around and scream real loud. Very entertaining,

very creative, fun show. And, you know, it was

very popular for quite some time until, as most

things that aren't Spongebob, just kind of go

the wayside on cable networks these days. So

I'm pretty content with where Dexter is. I might

be a little surprised to see any other Cartoon

Network characters pop up, except for maybe a

couple. But I don't know. We'll have to wait

and see on that one. Amanda, you had this one

pretty close as well. You had Dexter ranked 54.

That's only 14 spots off. What do you think of

Dexter coming on at least making the countdown?

Yeah, I'm glad that he made the countdown here.

I think that it's a relatively good spot for

him. Dexter, like most geniuses, was a dick,

but he was funny, and he did a lot of cool stuff,

and I liked his relationships with everybody.

I liked his wit, his humor. I think he was a

fun little dude. I used to do a really mean mandrake.

impression by the way just saying and i had a

lot of fun with him i think he was definitely

um somebody i i was gonna have to put on my list

uh neil you had dexter on the other side of the

50 mark so are you a little upset that he didn't

rank higher and why did you have him ranked as

highly as you did um that's just kind of where

he fell i i had like a pool of names and i just

kind of arranged it so that he ended up there

i don't really have a preference where he should

fall I love this show. I love the character.

Dexter, the way I see Dexter is he's kind of

like the straight man of the show and all the

other silly characters are around him. And that's

fine because every comedy team needs a Bud Abbott.

Didi was Manic and Mandark was something else.

God, I wish I had ranked them too. I didn't think

of this. No, I really like the character. He's

fun. I totally called him Mandrake, like that

thing from Harry Potter. That's all right. We'll

forgive you. Mandrake! Mandrake! Dan, neither

one of us had Dexter on our list. Any comments

on Dexter? I mean, I definitely like the show.

I'm old, Dan's not old. We're shame on both of

you. Hey. i watched i watched the cartoon i guess

i don't know i just there's a lot of cartoons

and a lot of characters to rank and i think it's

one of the things where i like the show more

than the characters per se or you know some of

the more side characters i've found more adorable

like dexter as a character he's interesting he's

funny but i i mean i don't have an issue with

him being here for sure you know he's like dr

doom and training or something like that but

you know it was a good show i have no i but it's

not one that i felt the need to rank and i felt

I had other characters I preferred. Yeah, I don't

know if it's maybe just a lack of love for 90s

on my part, or if it was just a lack of love

for Cartoon Network, because you're not going

to see very many Cartoon Network characters showing

up that I ranked. Anyways, I think Dexter still

is pretty iconic for that time, so I don't necessarily

have a problem with him showing up here. I probably

would have had him on last week's episode, preferably,

instead of this one. Moving on to number 67,

and we're going to go to another duo, and this

is a Disney duo, so we're right back to Disney.

Our number 67, another side character perhaps,

not the villain, not the Disney princess. We're

going to Timon and Pumbaa, putting them together.

for number 67. Dan, you had this one pretty darn

close. You had him at 71, however way we scored

this. It was very similar to Powerpuff Girls.

If somebody did split him up, we took the higher

one of the two. What do you feel about Timon

and Pumbaa coming in at 67? I mean, they were

a lot of fun. I remember watching the animated

cartoon show that they got shortly after The

Lion King, and it was great fun. They, I think,

brought a lot of life into The Lion King when

they showed up. a great song similarly you know

akuna matata and all that so yeah i i like i

i think this is a good spot for them obviously

because it's close to where i ranked them and

i don't think necessarily they're the most deep

characters but as comic relief i think they're

very effective so yeah yeah i would agree with

that and this is also surprisingly I haven't

been listening to this for a lot of the characters,

but they've been in over about 17 different either

games, shows, movies, or whatever. So they did

have a life, obviously, like you mentioned, after

the movie, whether it was the TV series or different

things like that. So definitely a very popular

set of characters for kids especially. Amanda,

you had them on the other side of the 50 mark

in the 30s. What do you think of Timon and Pumbaa

coming in here at number 67? A little sad that

they're so low. I think that they're super popular.

really loved and i think that they taught us

some really great stuff and they had a lot of

heart behind them um also some adult humor every

now and then that we we enjoy and i think that

they they are definitely deserving of a place

on this list i can kind of see why they're they're

at this this rank with our combined lists, definitely

higher on mine just because it's a personal list,

but I'm glad that they're here anyways. Sketch,

one thing that this does bring up maybe is the

idea of what Neil was talking about a little

bit ago on the side characters from some of these.

Not necessarily just Disney, but side characters

in general. We had Jiminy Cricket show up, now

we have Timon and Pumbaa. Should we expect more

of these not so main protagonist, antagonist

characters, or do you think we've hit a couple?

of the big ones already i think we've hit a lot

of the big ones there's still a couple that i

could see popping more than a couple that i could

see popping up because sometimes the main character

isn't the best character of a movie or a show

and i feel like timon and pumbaa they really

extended the lifespan of the lion king franchise

pretty much by themselves so they're worthy of

the list I don't think I put them on mine, which

I feel a little bad about. But they were just

other Disney characters that I wanted to see

on the list more. Fair enough. Neil, what do

you think about Timon and Pumbaa earning a spot

in the top 100? I like where they are. I think

it's good that they're higher than Jiminy. And

even though I did not rank them, I can't really

contest them being here. I guess they just didn't

resonate with me enough to make me think of them

when I made the list. I think they need to exist

in the movie that they're in because, you know,

it's the point in the movie where the worst possible

thing happens to, or I almost said Kimba, Simba.

The worst possible thing happens to Simba. And

it's like really down and depressing. And along

comes Timon and Simba. It's like, okay, here

come the first jokes. And it's great because

they add levity to a really depressing part of

the movie. Yeah, that's definitely a good point.

I had them ranked in the other side of the 50s

as well, but I don't necessarily have any problem

with them showing up here. I think it's a pretty

good spot for them. All right, let's go to our

number 66 pick, a company that we haven't heard

from today unless you want to rank them in or

combine them in with Disney, I guess. We're going

to go to the world of Pixar for our number 66

pick. Dan, you got this. only miss this one by

one spot so you had him at number 65 he comes

in at number 66 and we're talking about carl

from the film up what do you think about carl

showing up here at number 66. With Up, you think

about a Disney or Pixar film where your main

character is an elderly gentleman. I mean, you're

going to try to sell that movie to kids. It's

a hard sell, but I think he makes it work. He's

that reluctant hero, I guess you would say, and

you find him as a character very funny and similar.

to I think some characters we mentioned he very

much is somewhat still the straight man and the

craziness kind of happens around him but he works

well in that role so and it helps the fact like

the first 10 minutes of that film really get

you on his side because it's such a bittersweet

or sad opening that you can't help but like feel

for him no matter how angry he might act or how

much he just you know may not even care about

the safety of a young child but it's okay because

he's had a hard life so it makes it okay All

right. Yeah, I just caught up with Up This Last

Year, and he did make my list, even on short.

He probably would have been higher if I would

have had a little bit more time even to resonate

on that film and the character, but even just

on a scene recently was worthy enough to make

my top 100, so I'm in agreement with that. Amanda

didn't quite make yours. What did you think about

him? Or maybe as you looked at Pixar characters,

did he not quite rank as high as you wanted?

I just tend to block out a lot about that movie

because it's so sad and I can't take it. But

I think that as far as ranking him goes, I didn't

rank him because I feel like as good of a character

as he is, it was more of like an ensemble thing

for me. And I liked the movie a lot, but I liked

the whole, you know, with all the parts to it,

not just the individuals. All right. Sketch or

Neil, any thoughts on Carl from Up making the

top 100? Well, God, I forgot how depressing the

opening of that movie is. Have you ever seen

the meme on the Internet where it's like the

first 10 minutes of there's no words and it's

like still a better love story than blank? And,

you know, I do love this character, but I guess

he didn't rank is because he's only in this one

movie. And that's another thing is that I may

have had a blind spot also to movie characters

because if they only have like one adventure

and then. they don't carry on, then they don't

resonate as much. So that's probably why he's

not on my list. But again, I don't contest. Maybe

a little higher. He is a great character. Sketch,

what about you? Yeah. I honestly didn't even

think about it. I ranked very, very few Pixar

characters total. He's a great character. It's

very refreshing to have a grumpy old man as the

main character of a children's movie. I mean,

haven't had a character like that since, what,

Mr. Magoo? But, I don't know. You definitely

feel for the guy. But, yeah, it's really more

of an ensemble, in my opinion. So, didn't have

room for him on my list. dan are we selling carl

short i think so i think like like i said when

you when you consider the crowd that he's in

when it comes to animated films and yeah the

ensemble is there but if that that story doesn't

work unless you want him to succeed like it is

his story at the end of the day and i think if

we're up to be what it is like you have to buy

into him as a character and then like all the

other stuff won't work and i think you're able

to do that because you know he's an easy character

to identify with he's one that certainly is um

he has a dramatic weight to all the craziness

but he's also he's lovable and all this grumpiness

and that's a hard thing to pull off thinking

you know the voice acting is a big part of that

i guess i give him points for the fact that he's

a character that shouldn't work he yet somehow

does so I could see that argument as well. We'll

have to let the listeners let us know if they

think we got that one right or wrong with Carl

showing up at 66. And let's go also off the beaten

path here. 65. For number 65, a character that

might not come to people's mind immediately and

a more modern character, but worthy enough based

on the combined voting of everybody to make our

list at number 65 from FX, the first FX character,

not that there was a lot to choose from. We're

going to go with Sterling Archer. from the show

Archer, originated in 2010, voiced by H. John

Benjamin. Amanda, let's start with you. You haven't

talked in a while. What do you think of Archer

making our list? I don't really have any comments.

I don't ever watch that show. The only thing

I've seen of Archer is in commercials, and it

seems outrageous and ridiculous, but I think

that it looks like some adult -like stuff that

I'm sure... has a big following um and probably

why he didn't make your list then um let's go

back to sketch and neil let's start with sketch

um what do you think about sterling archer it

wasn't on your list but is he worthy of being

included in the top 100 for the space that he

occupies in modern animation i love archer i

i think he's a great character i thoroughly enjoy

the show Again, the ensemble really makes the

show, but at the same time, Archer as a singular

character really drives the show. So I don't

have a problem with him being on the list. I

think I would probably have him not quite as

high because he's not that iconic. I would argue

maybe he's a better character than some iconic

characters, but if you're trying to rank this

with... being something heavily weighted, he

really doesn't quite make it, in my opinion.

But I don't have a problem with him being on

the list, and I'm kind of happy to see him. I

think this is the adult part of people who are

making these lists. I think that they're thinking

of their preferences now and not something that

they've built over time. But that's okay. If

that's what floats your boat, then that's what

floats your boat. Neil, agree or disagree with

the comments being made so far? All I can say

is that I've never seen a single episode of this.

The first time I saw Archer, I just saw an image

of it, and it looks like the type of character

that you would build in one of those template,

make -your -own -character type things on the

internet. He looks exactly like that. And I'm

like, what is this? And then I'm like, oh, this

is a show? This is a cartoon? And I don't know,

I just never had... had any inkling to watch

it. Dan, we had Archer both ranked on our list.

Not quite as high as some people because Simplistic

Reviews had it in their top 10, Talking in Circles

had it in their top 15. You and I had 85 and

75. It comes in at 65. So what do you think of

Archer making the list? I do like Archer. He

is the character that we do see a lot nowadays

who's that basically that asshole that you still

kind of love or like or deal with and um you

know he's kind of clueless and does a lot of

stupid things but he's ultimately funny and i

think that kind of one makes him more works he's

very brash he's like if james bond had no class

or charm that's kind of pretty he does look like

Seriously, Lana, this must be what it's like

to have sex with me. How can an airboat be selfish?

No, can't hear you. I'm too happy. You can't

hear me because you're redlining the engine.

Oh, thank you, certified airboat mechanic. Now,

where's this pig launcher thing? This heading

one mile. But I'm serious, Archer, if you don't

slow down... I'll keep feeling this incredibly

vibrant and alive? Yeah, right up until you blow

the damn engine. Lana, I'm not gonna blow the...

Yeah, try clearing your throat about a jillion

more times, Lana. See if that helps. Yeah. I

guess the reason he made my list is because,

for me, he's still somewhat of a unique character.

Whether it's iconic or not yet, he's occupying

a space for me that not very many other characters

have occupied. That's a fair point. Yeah, and

not just modern characters. I'm talking about

over the entire course of animated characters.

There's not a lot of people that you could put

in the same boat with him. So he stood out a

little bit more for that purpose. He's like the

same kind of dude as Johnny Bravo with a better

job. See, you're talking Cartoon Network again,

like I before mentioned. I like to turn the other

way when Cartoon Network stuff comes on. Why?

Why do you have so much hate for Cartoon Network?

I don't know. topic for another day your face

is a topic all right talking about archer you're

getting brassier all right so let's let's open

up a can of worms that we opened up one time

in last episode and i'm sure there will be uh

some more hate when we do it again here and uh

some questioning on our knowledge of what it

means to be an animated character perhaps 64

but our number 64 is actually going to go back

to the world of the muppets technically maybe

not always animated characters but in one way

shape or form they have been at times so i don't

know how we're going to get by this one but we're

going to go to big bird for number 64 originating

on 1969 television episode uh voice or voiced

and operated by carol spinney obviously the the

subject of a pretty interesting documentary in

recent years but a lot of people obviously weren't

going to rank the muppets or puppets or anything

like that because they're not technically animated

characters we tried to justify that by saying

that there wouldn't be a list for them in the

future so we're kind of shoehorning them in here

regardless of all that nonsense amanda what do

you think of big bird coming in at 64. it's super

lovable i think that he's really iconic and something

that um we we all grew up with i don't really

know if i dig all of the muppets on here yet

but there's only two so far yeah big bird yeah

yeah yeah well i know that there's gonna be more

than a big birds on here and we've seen um does

it get bigger than big bird i don't know there's

there's so many more to choose from why would

only two so i don't know He's great. I wasn't

a huge Big Bird fan, but do I really remember

my Sesame Street days? No. I think he's definitely

iconic enough to be on this list. Sketch, you

had this character ranked pretty high yourself,

so what do you think about Big Bird coming in

here at 64? I love Big Bird. I wanted Big Bird

to make the list if any of the Sesame Street

characters, Muppets, made the list. I felt Big

Bird was very justified, very iconic, beloved.

has had a very long lifespan. I mean, Big Bird's

still around. So, yeah, I think Big Bird belongs

on the list. I think maybe he should be on the

other side of 50, but whatever. Dan, are we just

setting ourselves up for – do we have a big target

now on our backs with including these Muppets?

Oh, when don't we? When don't we? So, yeah, like

I said, I didn't rank. The Muppets. But hey,

we're going to do. It's a list. People will find

something to complain about. But I do. Well,

I'm happy the fact that Big Bird beat Elmo. So

I consider that a win either way. Neil, agree

or disagree? Big Bird is better than Elmo? Oh,

yeah. I guess you could kind of split hairs about

whether this counts as an animated character,

but the way I look at it, Jim Henson is one of

my personal heroes. He was an amazing graphic

artist, and basically what he did for a living

was to take his drawings and bring them to life,

which is basically what cartoons are. And for

Big Bird, I hope that there are more Muppets

higher on the list, just because he's a great

Muppet, but he's not the best Muppet. But he

does have one of the... most iconic scenes uh

from my childhood one that's like ingrained into

my brain just the episode where mr hooper died

and they they uh they didn't sugarcoat it but

they were really gentle with it and they yeah

they it was it was a really moving scene they

didn't they didn't pull their punches but they

were gentle enough that they that they were honest

about what had happened, what death is, and it

was appropriate for their audience that they

did that. Yeah, I definitely remember that episode,

Hardcore. That definitely had an imprint on me

as well. Big Bird for me was a huge character

in my childhood. I think I always somewhat snuffle

up against a little bit better, even though he

wasn't necessarily as... deep of a character

i guess but i was a big fan of big bird so i

have no problem if if we're going to include

muppets he should be higher than elmo so i'm

fine with that 63 Going to our 63rd spot, one

thing you can definitely say is that we have

no bias against non -speaking characters, because

this is going to be our third so far showing

up on the list. So we're not subtracting points

from people just because they don't speak. And

we're also going to go back to the Looney Tunes

characters, which we haven't been to in about

10 picks. So let's get our second Looney Tunes

character of the day out of the way here at number

63 with Wile E. Coyote, originated in the 1960s.

1948 short, has been in 21 different shows, movies,

games, etc., but not usually voiced. It has been

voiced very minorly a couple times, but not usually

voiced. Dan, you had Wile E. Coyote at 42. He

comes in at 63, just about 20 spots off. What

do you think of Wile E.? You mean, obviously,

a hugely influential character. I think everyone

knows Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. probably

one of the most infamous rivalries in all of

animation or just in general. He very much takes

a lot of like the, if you look at silent films

and a lot of the comedy that he evokes, it's

very similar, you know, from Buster Keaton or

other directors like that. He's a villain kind

of, but you almost end up rooting for him just

because of like how horrifically he can mess

up and fail. And you just, you know. he's just

an endless amount of great comedy i mean he may

not have a lot of dimension compared to some

other characters maybe why he didn't rank higher

he is kind of the same joke over for the last

whatever some many years but it's a well -made

joke and it's done effectively so but man is

that why he does not make a spot on your list

um i just had a lot of other um pics that i felt

a connection to that i i didn't um with wiley

and the road runner i think that i would have

um ranked him if i would have thought a little

bit more about him because i think that he like

dan said it's probably one of the biggest rivalries

ever and how many times has that that same joke

been been brought up and been used and even live

action things i mean like painting the the railroad

tracks or the tunnel on a brick wall or whatever

he does and and i think that he is so iconic

and showing up shows up in so much stuff that

i can see why he's on this list i think it would

have been dumb if he wasn't on this list i think

that um little sad i didn't rank them now that

we're talking about it's interesting as we go

through this how we have some of those moments

where we were like wait why i ranked him that

high or wait i didn't rank him uh neil are you

a little upset that he's not on the other side

of 50 because you had him ranked at uh 15 overall

oh yeah he's he should be much higher than than

sylvester the cat because he's he's basically

sylvester cranked up to a thousand he's the ultimate

he's the ultimate uh slapstick character he's

just just getting the business every cartoon

and i don't care what anyone says punching down

is hilarious because you feel sorry for him but

you love to see him fall off the cliff and get

the boulder land on him every single time he's

driven he's dedicated yes he's you know the acme

corporation that fails him every at every point

it's it's great Sketch, you did not have Tweety.

You don't have Wile E. Coyote. Were you saving

your Looney Tunes picks for other characters

and you don't just think these two are worthy

enough or just not a fan of Looney Tunes in general?

I like Looney Tunes a lot. I feel like I had

a little bit of a blind spot here. I probably

should have ranked Wile E. Coyote because he

is like the ultimate slapstick character. it's

an important character in the history of animation

so yeah he should be on the list It gets hard

with some of the Looney Tunes characters because

I struggle the same way. He did not make my list,

actually, either, so I'm not trying to be hypocritical

and not point out that he wasn't on my list either.

But, man, when you have the couple dozen Looney

Tunes characters and you're trying to whittle

it down, sometimes it's hard to decide which

ones rank over other ones. So I think that's

something that will be interesting in retrospect

when we're done to kind of look back at some

of the groups and see how they all ranked and

if we got it right or wrong. But I didn't mean

to cut you off. You had another thought? Not

too much, but yeah, I think if he's on this list,

he probably should be on the other side of 50,

but it's good that he made the list. 62. All

right, let's move on then to our number 62 pick.

Actually, the first pick of today that originated

in the 1980s. So a 1980s original character,

and we're going to have to see if we catch some

flack for this one or not. I don't remember how

he fared in the Facebook versus matchup that

he was involved with, but we're going to go to

a character from Amblin Entertainment for our

number 62, and that is from the 1986 film, Fievel.

So, Fievel from American Tail or American Tail,

Fievel Goes West. And I'm not going to mention

the third movie. Coming in at number 62, Amanda,

not on your list. No love for Fievel? I did love

Fievel, but this was like a couple of the movies

that my cousins had and I didn't have, so I only

got to watch it when I went to their house. And

it was kind of out of my head until I was there.

But super cute, a lot of heart. Love all the

characters. Love, like, the world building, how,

you know, the animals were kind of the people

here. I thought it was really well done, and

the stakes were pretty high. Like, motherfuckers

were dying and stuff in this, and there's some

rats and stuff. Like, people were hardcore, okay?

Let's keep it going with the people that didn't

have it ranked, because most of us didn't. So,

Amanda, you didn't have it ranked. Neil and Sketch,

you guys didn't have 5 -0 ranked either, so let's

start with Neil. Why no love for 5 -0? I think

each of the successive sequels just diluted it

more and more, and it's just hard to love a character

after you've seen three bad movies in a row.

By the way, there was a fourth sequel, and it's

awful. So what if it had just been the first

film? Would he have enough love, or would it

not have had enough staying power? He might have

made it if there was just the one movie, because

the first movie is great. uh it's the don bluth

curse you know he he makes one movie and then

the production company wants to make a sequel

without without him and and it always just goes

to shit sketch did the tv series hurt fievel

or the tv series definitely hurt fievel i forgot

about that i liked the second movie actually

fievel goes west i liked it with wyatt yes for

me it wasn't until the third one that things

went off the rails yeah yeah exactly uh no i

just didn't think he was the the movies themselves

if i was ranking movies i would probably put

at least the first one on that list but i not

the character himself he's just just not that

big of a deal Well, let's hear the counter side

to that argument, because, Dan, you had him actually

on the other side of 50. You had him at number

37, and I don't remember how he fared in the

matchup against. I believe he was against Littlefoot

from The Land Before Time when we did our Facebook

matchup. If we could only put one of them on

the list, did we get the right one? And what's

the argument for him being even higher? Ah, geez.

Littlefoot versus him. I would probably go Littlefoot,

maybe. I don't know. Well, I will say is I never

watched any of the movies outside of the second

one and never knew animated. series existed part

of it too is that you know there is an element

of nostalgia for this pick for me because i was

a huge fan of both of those films growing up

as a kid um i just also just think for a cartoon

character that he was a lot more complicated

than you would normally get especially for the

time and uh we especially one that's certainly

representation of in in the first film and you

know um you know the immigrant story that that's

told and i think that's something that you often

don't see and And we still don't see today. So

I feel like as a character, he's one that is

more complex than I think you can realize. And,

you know, he's a tough character because he can

be overly cute because he's just a little kid

mouse. But I thought, you know, they did a good

job of not just making him this one note, just

a cute type of character. And he kind of made

him a full flesh person with goals and dreams

and one that you could get behind. So I felt

like that's a big reason I chose him. All I can

remember when I think of him, too, is, like,

the Western film and him having guns and cowboy

hat and craziness. So, yeah, so I guess that's

part of it. That's, like, similar to with Up,

you know, how we were a character that's outside

the norm. I guess that's kind of how I felt with

Fievel. Like, obviously, there's more iconic

mouse characters when it comes to animation,

but I'd argue if you look at just the complexity

of character, he may be a little bit more interesting

to me than some of the more famous characters

that are mouse and animated. I had Fievel ranked

as well. I had him at 71. I agree. To me, part

of this, like you said, might be a little bit

of nostalgia because I did grow up with these

first two movies and I loved Fievel when I was

a kid. I think one of the reasons I loved him

so much is because as a kid, obviously you're

getting that character that you're supposed to

connect with. You're getting the child character

that's almost like a coming -of -age type thing.

But what they did, I think, with this film is

they didn't dumb it down. They didn't necessarily

just make him... They didn't go too far with

him. He still seemed genuine to me or like somebody

that you could relate to the issues and the problems

that he was going through. It wasn't just like

this generic... you know, young kid type character.

So they had like saloon girls and stuff. Like

some of the stuff was pretty adult. Best friend

was a cat. I mean, so I, I don't know. I liked

Bible for it. And I think Dan has some points

there with the level of depth and some of the

stuff that he was going through compared to some

of these, like we talked about, even with some

of the iconic characters that are just more one

for me for not being just a one note character.

So 61. All right, for number 61, let's go back

to Pixar and answer a question that we asked

last episode. Last episode, we had a certain

character show up, and we were questioning whether

we would have any more from that film or not.

And that question can be answered here at number

61 when we get our second character from Inside

Out showing up, and that would be Sadness from

the 2015 film. So we had Joy at number 98. We

get Sadness at number 61. Dan, I'll start with

you here. Is that the right ordering? Should

there be 30 spots between these two characters?

How do you make sense of Joy and Sadness both

showing up? I actually understand Sadness being

on this list much more than Joy because I do

feel like she was by far the standout. character

among that group when it came to the film i think

we mentioned previously as a whole i think they

work a lot more than individually a great voice

performance one that uh she's the one that added

really an element of uh an element of sadness

uh bad word choice but She was by far probably

the most important character in that movie, and

it was a lot of ways her story and how she had

such a huge impact in how that plot went out.

If anything, I feel this is a little high, though.

Probably what I would do is take her, put her

where Joy was, and then take Joy out completely.

But I do like her as a character a lot, but like

I said, I don't know if looking at some of the

characters that we've gone through already, if

she's... as great of characters or as memorable

as they are and i would say no so i think this

is far too high honestly I was going to actually

say the exact same thing, that I would put Sadness

where Joy was and kick Joy out of the top 100

because I ranked Sadness, but I did not rank

Joy. I think out of all the emotions, she was

the most pivotal one. She was the most important

one, and she's the one why that film resonates

without Sadness. As a successful character, as

they created with Sadness, that film just loses

everything. And I thought Phyllis Smith was phenomenal

in that role as well. So I can see Sadness being

right in that first 10, 15. spots, but I think

that's the only character from Inside Out that's

really worthy of making the list. Amanda, what

do you think about this conundrum that we're

at? And I don't think you had either of them

ranked, so is Inside Out not worthy of having

characters in here? I think that if we were to

rank them, I would just put all of the motions

together as one, just because I really don't

see that any one of them was more important than

the other in relation to what Riley was going

through, because she needed all of them. And

I think that it... It was just too soon after

release for me to rank them yet. I think I just

had a lot more connection and feelings towards

some of the more older, iconic characters, and

that's who I wanted to give respect to on the

list. It definitely got love from some of our

film contributors. It was in the top 30 for both

simplistic reviews and in -session film. Neil,

what do you think? Did any of the emotions belong

here? I've never seen this movie. I had to just

go look this up just now to see what it was,

and I'm like, yep, that's a Pixar character.

I don't know who this is. It kind of looks like

a Disney fight strong sad, if you know what that

is. It definitely could be like what Sketch was

talking about, too, with the other Pixar film

that came up so far today, is that some of these

maybe are a little bit more effective as an ensemble

than if you start taking them out one by one.

agree or have you seen this movie i i have seen

the movie and my comment is similar if you're

gonna have sadness on this list then bump joy

uh and carl should be ahead of sadness at the

very least so maybe we're getting our characters

maybe we're getting our pixar all mixed up here

um any other i'm starting to worry i'm just i'm

gonna blame jd and brennan because i know that

they like creamed about this movie And maybe

The Simplest Trick of You Guys. Pretty sure they

would, too. Should we expect to see Anger or

anybody else? Riley? All right. I vote Riley

because that's me. 60. All right, let's move

on to number 60. His name has already been mentioned,

actually, today. When we were talking about Cartoon

Network and I think when we were talking about

Archer, he might have come up, Amanda. We got

number 60, Cartoon Network's another 1990s character

with Johnny Bravo, voiced by Jeff Bennett. Did

not make my list, surprise, surprise. Amanda

Mai, is Johnny Bravo worthy of being in our top

100? Man, I don't really know, honestly. I watched

a lot of Johnny Bravo. I think he was really

fun. I think that he... He had a good heart and

said some really awesome stuff, had killer hair

and super cool muscles. But I'm not really sure.

It's not like he taught us anything. It wasn't

like he was a super relatable guy. He just wanted

to work out and get honeys, I guess. To be fair,

you only had him at 90, so it's not like you

had him super high. He was just a part of my

childhood. I think that he's just somebody that

I remember and remember having. Good time watching.

Neil, I'll let you make the argument because

you probably have the best place to make it from

because you had him ranked pretty high in the

top 30. Why is Johnny Bravo worthy? I think he

just appeals to the total pig part of my brain.

He's so awful and yet he's hilarious. And he's,

oh my God. You know what else it is about him

is that he's... You need characters like little

girl Susie and his mother to kind of sweeten

him up because he is kind of a pig. But, you

know, you understand that he also cares about

his mom and he loves the little girl even though

he tries to pretend that he doesn't. And that

really sweetens him up a lot so you can laugh

at the terrible jokes that he makes. pig -headed

things that he says. When they introduced his

loser friend in the second season, he's like,

hi, Johnny. And I'm like, oh, God, get this guy

out of here. Just completely ruined. Yeah, completely

ruined the concept of the show. But I love the

first season. Great character. Hello, everybody.

include self -proclaimed macho man Johnny Bravo.

Boo! Boo! And Jane Smoo, author of Big Muscle,

Small Mind. Yay! Nice to be here. So, Jane, what's

the deal? Well, Vandala, the problem with men

like Johnny is they are completely narcissistic.

Hey, wait a minute. Did she call me a sissy?

Men like Johnny are afraid of strong women. Hey,

hey, hey, hey. I ain't scared of no big old buff

women. Oh, yeah? Can't let you bust up Babycake's

talk show set, alright? Thanks, Babycakes. No,

thank ten years of rodeo training in Salinas,

California. And don't call me Babycakes. Sketch,

what do you think about Johnny Bravo? If Johnny

Bravo was on this list, I feel he's too high.

I would definitely put the Powerpuff Girls and

Dexter above him. I would probably put the Powerpuff

Girls above dexter too and johnny bravo is a

fun character but he's also kind of bad kind

of a terrible character they would never air

this today oh no absolutely not there's no freaking

way dan sketch brought up some of the other cartoon

network uh characters that we've seen and we've

had stuff like um you know space ghost in a way

powerpuff girls dexter uh johnny bravo beating

all of them out is that right wrong or what's

going on here oh man i don't know if the right

person asked but i'll say no uh i mean johnny

bravo was fine like i i could only watch that

cartoon i think for a short while until i got

just kind of bored or annoyed with him as a character

like yeah he was funny but like similar to some

characters he mentioned i never felt like his

joke was kind of the same thing he was like yeah

he's like the Fonz if the Fonz had like similar

to Archer being with uh James Bond with no charisma

or charm he's like the same thing but the Fonz

if he's Fonz had worse luck I guess or I don't

know but um he was fine I guess but I felt like

I in similar enjoyed the Powerpuff Girls that

show and those characters with more Dexter as

well. I guess I get just, I would go tired of

him quickly. Um, maybe, I don't know why I, for

some reason that would happen with him, but I

enjoyed Archer when you could kind of argue a

lot of their traits, very similar. Maybe it's

just the jokes I found. I found more funny with

Archer. Archer has more personality. Yeah. I

guess my problem would be that we're ranking

Johnny Bravo higher than Maleficent, higher than

Gromit, higher than Chippendale, higher than

Astro Boy. Way too high. So, I mean, if he's

going to make the list, I don't know how you

justify him being ahead of some of those people.

I'm actually really disappointed in some of these

choices that we've had so far, these results

that we've had so far. I'm questioning some of

these people that submitted lists. Ouch. You're

calling everybody out. Everybody on blast. Yeah.

All right. Well, something we haven't done in

about, oh, let's see, six or seven picks here.

Let's go back to Disney. 59. For our number 59

pick, it's not a Disney princess. It's not a

Disney side character. It's not a Disney villain.

Let's go to Simba. from The Lion King at number

59 from 1994. Matthew Broderick in the film,

Cam Clark in a lot of things later does the voice

there. We did have some comments, though, when

Simba came up on one of our Facebook matchups

that I believe somebody said that Simba was inconsequential

to the entire film, which I don't understand

that comment. So maybe you guys can help shed

some light on Simba's worthiness or not. Who

the hell said that? I don't have names. She's

out for blood. I think I might get that because

what happened at Pride Rock after he left is

that they basically had a bad season. It's like,

oh, well. plants died and and it's rainy and

dreary and like and he shows back up and the

sun comes out he's like yes i did this i brought

the sun back and it's like no you didn't and

like all the camaraderie and like the the pride

in the pride was gone and they were forced to

you know be manipulated by somebody who really

didn't care about them and the whole you know

I don't want to say their father figure, but

the person that was holding them together and

was supposed to care for them and protect them

was forcing them to live with their enemies and

fucked it all up. I don't think it had anything

to do with just the weather. I could see that

argument either way, but Amanda, you had Simba

rank pretty high at number 36. How do you feel

coming in at 59? I can see that. I don't, I'm

not going to argue with the ranking here, but

whoever said that, you know, he was inconsequential

to the story. I think you're dumb because the

whole story revolved around him, like in his

tragedy and him stepping up to his rightful spot

and having to deal with choices that he made.

kind of coming to terms with who he is and what

he needs to do to protect the people that he's

really responsible for. So I think that was the

whole movie. Yeah, I think it kind of depends

on what perspective you look at the film and

what you think the film's about, maybe to a certain

extent. But I think it's also interesting, Dan,

we have now, we've seen some Disney villains,

we've seen some Disney princesses, we've seen

some more, you know, kind of side characters,

even a side character from this film in Timon

and Pumbaa already. But one of the first just

main characters that's not necessarily a disney

princess so is he does he rank high amongst that

group of if we're kind of doing like subcategories

is is that a thing that we should be looking

at and how does he rank amongst them and he didn't

make your list so is he worthy of making the

list overall i guess when i looked at lion king

i did want to rank some characters for lion king

and i like we mentioned rank timon and pumbaa

and i think a few others but I wouldn't say he's

inconsequential to the movie. I think obviously

there's elements to it, but he's not the most

interesting character in the movie that he's

in, but that's kind of purposeful in a way. Like

he, it's his journey he's developing. He's going

through this, you know, he's being trying to

be manipulated by, he's learning. So it is these

characters that he's interacting with that are

the ones that he is kind of growing relationships

for because with that, I think you don't get

Simba as the most, you know, he's not say like,

aladdin per se who is you know jumps out off

the page from right right away so i guess if

you're ranking him against other like male or

disney -centric characters that aren't princesses

i mean there's not a huge amount to choose from

i'm thinking of like from robin hood you know

you got like pinocchio peter pan like you mentioned

with aladdin um you know male protagonists Yeah,

I guess he's not one of the first ones that comes

to my mind. I mean, Lion King is one of the first

movies. But like I mentioned, I tend to gravitate

towards other characters in that. But I think

that's the product of the storytelling in a way.

Like, I do think he has great development as

a character. And so he does have that going for

him. I would say that, you know, he's deserving

of the list. I probably would have put someone

like Maleficent higher or some other characters

higher just because I feel that. as individual

characters, they're stronger. But I don't think

this will be the last we'll see of Lion King,

would be my guess. Neil, you already talked about

the inconsequential comment, but you didn't get

to have a chance to talk about your overall thoughts

on Simba in general. And like Dan's saying, if

we see Simba here, should we expect to see more

Lion King characters still coming up? I was about

to say there better be more, but the two that

should have been higher. uh have already been

on the list um i was kind of riffing on on the

movie but the the character of simba is kind

of um i don't know he's kind of one of the more

uninteresting character types which is the hero

and but that's that's a common thing anyway like

a lot of hero characters are not really very

interesting you know once once they uh you know

once they reach their goal there's no more story

to tell it's not like you can do a sequel They

did do a sequel. Yeah, it's not very interesting.

The sequel's not very good. I guess I just wouldn't

put him on the list because I don't... He's just

kind of a one -note character. Once you get him

through his story, there's nothing else to do.

He's just going to rule uneventfully because

it's happily ever after. It's a problem with

a lot of Disney movies is that they can't exist

outside of themselves. You can't have like...

The ones that you want to go on are like Timon

and Pumbaa, who rightfully had the cartoon and

not Simba. Yeah. Sketch, talking about Timon

and Pumbaa, do you think we got them in the right

order or not? Simba, about 10 spots higher. Definitely

not. Simba's kind of bland. I mean, he has a

greater role in the whole lore of things as he

has. a descendant in sequels, and then becomes

the father figure. And you see that whole progression

of the character. But he's still just kind of

a bland hero who gets real sad because his daddy

dies and thinks it's his fault and goes off on

whatever and then comes back and is like, now

I have to be responsible. Not that interesting.

I think it was super heartfelt. i think it was

super heartfelt though the journey that he had

to go through because he saw his father die he

was living with the guilt that it was him and

he had no support system until he found timon

and pumbaa and he couldn't even be with his own

family like how how can you even put yourself

in that mindset and then have to come back and

realize that you have a responsibility and not

just an obligation something that you feel pride

in and that you feel like you need to be worthy

of and he proves that he's worthy of that and

he's he really does step up i think he has like

a super big arc and and he's deserving of the

love that he gets and i think that this was a

super huge movie for a lot of people and really

iconic and i think this would be a very incomplete

list if he wasn't on it do you know who would

agree with you amanda JD, because they had this

at their number one. So they had Simba at number

one for in -session film. I will say, before

I give Sketch a second to jump back in, that

I do think he's one of the best singing voices

of Disney history as far as the young boy singing

voice was phenomenal for Simba. But Sketch, go

ahead and finish your thoughts. What? No love

for Matthew Broderick? Well, I mean, it wasn't

quite that. Or Pam Clark. There was actually

two other people that did voices for his songs,

but I think the one got cut. You can see that

in the special features for the Blu -ray. I don't

have a problem with Simba being on the list.

Should he be ahead of Timon and Pumbaa? I don't

think so. He shouldn't be ahead of Maleficent

and several other characters. But this list is

getting kind of wonky. Maybe the most polarizing

of the characters that have come up so far, back

-to -back here with Johnny Bravo and Simba. We'll

have to wait and see how people weigh in on those.

But let's go back to another Looney Tunes character

with our next pick. 58. And another Looney Tunes

character that doesn't speak, really. So some

people would pair them together, but we have

them separated here. We have Roadrunner coming

in at number 58. Another of the Looney Tunes

characters. Dan, are we getting the order right

so far? We've had Tweety Bird show up, then Wile

E. Coyote, and now Roadrunner. I guess it's hard

for me to separate Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote.

You can't really have one without the other.

And I guess I would say if you're going to separate

them, I would put Wile E. Coyote higher as a

character because he's the one where all the

comedy comes from, where Roadrunner is just the

object he's chasing. putting the Tornado ahead

of the people in Twister. Well, maybe that's

not a good comparison because they're probably

more interesting. Of all the Looney Tunes characters

we talked about today, I think Wile E. Coyote

is probably the best. And I would put probably

even Tweety Bird ahead of Roadrunner. But I think

if I were lumping together, I would put the Roadrunner

and Wile E. Coyote actually higher than they

are right now. Neil, you had Tweety Bird at 75,

Roadrunner at 65, and... Wile E. Coyote at 15,

so you definitely separated the two of them and

had some space between them, some significant

space. So what do you think about the order we're

getting them so far, and why was Wile E. Coyote

so substantially more of an interesting character

to you than Roadrunner? Because the Roadrunner,

again, is a character that is just a one -note

character. He doesn't really do anything. He

just runs and occasionally stops for birdseed,

and that's all he does. And all the jokes are

with the coyote. In fact, I can only think of

one time that the Roadrunner ever had a joke,

and it was Coyote falls off the cliff, holds

up the sign, says something about the law of

gravity, and the Roadrunner holds up his own

sign and says, like, I never studied law or something

like that. It's the only joke he ever had. And

otherwise, he just doesn't do anything. I don't

know what I was thinking. Maybe he shouldn't

be higher than Tweety, but that's where I put

him. fair enough amanda so far none of the looney

tunes characters that have made the top 100 have

made your top 100 just not a fan of looney tunes

i mean i watched a lot of looney tunes but i

think that that was when i was much younger and

i didn't uh they didn't resonate as as much with

me maybe because they weren't talking and i couldn't

get into it or whatever but um i think that Rogue

Runner, he was definitely a part of the humor.

He had these looks, you know what I mean? That's

where his humor was, like the, I got you, or

whatever it may be. Just even a look at the camera,

if you will, or a wink or something like that.

And I think that... The two of them probably

should have been together, honestly. Sketch,

you didn't have any of them ranked either. I

know I already raked you over the coals for that,

so I won't do that again. But we also, now this

is another example of a non -speaking character.

Are you surprised at how many of them are having

some weight here? Because we had Roadrunner,

Wile E. Coyote, Grom, Snake Eyes. Are you impressed

that we're ranking so many non -speaking characters?

Because like Amanda said, sometimes it might

be hard for some people to connect to some of

those. I guess I'm not too surprised. All these

non -speaking characters have been fairly iconic

and popular. And I'm sure that there is at least

one or two more that could still make the list.

The thing about Roadrunner, I do think Roadrunner

has more personality than people give Roadrunner

credit. As Vandy said, there was looks that Roadrunner

would give. You could kind of see what was going

on in Roadrunner's head a lot of the time, and

he was just a troll. He just liked messing with

him, messing with Wily. He was. He was a little

bit sadistic. I don't know. What was a Roadrunner?

He always was there to watch Wily fall off the

cliff, that's for sure. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It

would be interesting to see. Go ahead. There's

a great clip from the movie UHF where Weird Al

Yankovic describes the Roadrunner cartoon, and

it is perfect. Ah. We'll have to wait and see

what our superfan there, list submitter, David,

says, because he had Roadrunner actually in his

top, he had it ranked at number 12. So I think

he did pair those two together, though, Roadrunner

and Wile E. Coyote. So like Dan said, sometimes

hard to separate those two from each other. So

maybe if we would combine them, maybe they'd

be even higher. 57. Going to our next pick, though,

a world that we haven't seen too much from at

all. Let's go to number 57, and we're going to

go to the world of Dr. Seuss. Actually originated

in a book in 1957, and that would be The Grinch.

Amanda, I know you're a big fan. You had him

ranked at number four, so he was in your top

five. He shows up right now at number 57. Thoughts?

A little sad that... somebody in my top five

is falling already but he was just a huge part

of my childhood and something that i still look

forward to seeing even now as an adult and i

think that his arc is one of the most dramatic

that i have ever seen in um an animation i'm

gonna say that i think that he is so iconic and

who doesn't know who the Grinch is he's a household

name um he's brought up in more than just discussions

of um you know Christmas or not Christmas spirit

but animation it's it's about Christmas spirit

and if somebody doesn't have it you're automatically

a Grinch like we don't have to be talking about

the movie here for him to come up I think that

um He was big enough to even make a live -action

movie, which I loved. Jim Carrey as the Grinch,

P .S. And I think that there's so much memorable

about How the Grinch Stole Christmas that it's

just something that sticks with you from... however

old you are when you see it, probably pretty

freaking young, to even now as an adult. I think

it's got possibilities. It's rewatchability,

even though we know what's going to happen. It's

just something that brings out those Christmas

feelings in you automatically. Every who down

in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch

who lived just north of Whoville did not. The

Grinch hated Christmas, the whole Christmas season.

Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows

the reason. It could be perhaps that his shoes

were too tight. It could be his head wasn't screwed

on just right. But I think that the most likely

reason of all may have been that his heart was

two sizes too small. But whatever the reason,

his heart or his shoes, he stood there on Christmas

Eve, hating the Who's. Staring down from his

cave with a sour, grinchy frown at the warm,

lighted windows below in their town. For he knew

every Who down in Whoville beneath was busy now,

hanging a holly Who beef. And they're hanging

their stockings. He snarled with a sneer. Tomorrow

is Christmas. It's practically here. Then he

growled with his Grinch fingers, nervously drumming.

I must find some way to keep Christmas from coming.

We're always thinking about the Grinch. How can

you not think about the Grinch? It's so iconic.

You see it every year, even if you don't try

to. It's the Grinch, man. And the whole story,

it's all about the Grinch. And as she said, the

Grinch has a great character arc. He starts out

as a Grinch. He's not such a nice guy. He thinks

he should take everything away from everybody

to kind of... get them to shut up, but he soon

realizes that it's better to love and to share

and to give, and his heart grows however many

sizes that day. It's a great story. It's a great

character. I mean, absolutely. I think that Grinch

is worthy of the top 20. Neil, maybe we'll get

the other side of the coin here because you did

not have the Grinch ranked. What do you think

of his worthiness? Another blind spot for me.

I guess it's just that when characters have a

limited exposure, I mean, he's only in one cartoon

ever. It's the kind of thing where I just wasn't

thinking of it. But I love the character. I think

Chuck Jones really transformed that character,

even from the book. The book was fantastic. The

cartoon really put a stamp on that character

and made it something. Voiced by Boris Karloff,

for Christ's sake. And I think it was Tim Burton

who pointed out that when he gets the awful idea

in his head, the smile that he has just keeps

going and going. It just gets to be a bigger

and bigger deliciously evil grin the longer it's

on screen. It's amazing. Now, obviously, a lot

of the Dr. Seuss characters have not all been

animated, so to speak. I mean, we did have the

very successful award -winning Cat in the Hat

cartoon that's been playing in recent years that

has featured some of the characters. But was

this Dr. Seuss' one chance of getting into this

countdown, Dan, with the Grinch? I would say

so. There are some other Dr. Seuss films that

are okay. The Lorax is fine. Horton here is fine.

But they don't even come close in comparison

to just the longevity, iconicness of the Grinch,

of course. I think if you're just looking at

Dr. Seuss characters in general, he probably

is the top one by far. You know, it's just a

lexicon word. It's just something that people

use to describe a lot of things. So I think he's

a part of Christmas as much as any other. movie,

cartoon, what have you. And obviously the book,

but I think the film itself, or whatever you

want to call it, short TV movie or whatever,

is probably the one thing, at this point, Dr.

Seuss may be best known for. And I think it's

probably overcome the popularity of the book

from the song, and it all works because of that

character. And from the look to everything, I

think he is certainly... uh a great kid a character

for kids or adults i think he just works and

it's kind of a simple concept that's well executed

which is you know what dr seuss became famous

for he just knows how to get something that sticks

and grinch certainly has All right. You know,

Dan, at the beginning you had mentioned that

in your prediction for this episode that we might

be seeing some Looney Tunes characters possibly

today, and I think you had that somewhat pretty

accurate here because we're going back to the

Looney Tunes. Some may argue that he is more

iconic than all the ones we've listed so far,

yet only two of us actually had him showing up

in our top 100. He originated in the 1935 shorts,

and we're going with none other than... Porky

Pig at number 56. He's been in 43 different shows,

movies, games, etc., etc. Obviously, original

voice Mel Blanc and Bob Bergen later on. But

Porky Pig, number 56. But Neil, you and I are

the only ones that had Porky Pig listed. I had

him at 61. You had him at 43. So I'll let you

start here. Why is Porky Pig deserving amongst

the Looney Tunes characters? Well, he's iconic.

He was a first star. I think what may have hurt

him is that he's not really funny on his own.

He's just kind of this stuttering pig who, if

you've seen the first few cartoons of his, they'd

team up with Gabby Goat and they weren't really

that funny. Once they put him with Daffy, he

became the greatest second banana of all time.

Because, you know, like the Roadrunner, he would

just, he maybe wasn't as sadistic as the Roadrunner,

but he kind of grinned whenever Daffy would get

his comeuppance. And that's basically the essence

of the character is that he's just like this

great secondary guy. Yeah, I can see that argument

as well. Sketch, what do you think of Porky Pig?

He's a very good sidekick character. They've

tried to give him more of a protagonist role

in certain shorts in more recent years. other

versions of Looney Tunes but he's always just

kind of been a side character and he works very

well for that but he also feels a little one

average guy which is maybe a reason why a lot

of people don't think about him you know despite

being like the tagline for how many Looney Tunes

shorts but I have no problem with him being on

the list. Maybe a little bit lower. Amanda, agree

or disagree? Porky Pig deserving or not? I think

he's iconic enough to be on this list. I don't

have too much exposure with him, so I didn't

rank him. I mean, I know who he is. I know what

he looks like. I know what he sounds like. I

know why he's popular. I think the most I remember

of him, though, is in Space Jam. Sorry I didn't

rank him, guys, but I definitely think that he

is worthy of this list. Dan, do you think some

of these older characters, especially maybe older

Disney or older Looney Tunes, Hanna -Barbera,

maybe another company you could think of, were

fighting an uphill battle to get on this list

because maybe they're not as much on people's

minds as some of these more modern characters?

I think so, because I think when people think

of... Porky Pig, yeah, people know that's all,

folks, but honestly, for me, I have not a great

deal of exposure to him beyond that, which is

a big reason I didn't necessarily rank him. When

I was looking at Looney Tunes characters or Disney

characters and other ones came to my mind first,

and I felt, you know, had presence for a little

longer, maybe that's an issue, an error on my

end, not knowing his... his history but I think

when you have when you're a part of such a huge

thing like Looney Tunes it's a crowded field

so and you tend to you know what have you done

for me lately and he hasn't unfortunately done

a lot lately compared to even other Looney Tunes

characters so and he is obviously on the list

but that's kind of why I didn't rank him I just

felt for me personally I enjoyed other Looney

Tunes characters more Yeah, I can definitely

see that argument as well. I think he's more

of an iconic character, so to speak, and maybe

not as resonant or a connected character that

really connects to people emotionally or nostalgic

-wise. I think maybe reputation is his best card

to play there. We haven't had a tie in a while,

but we do have a tie here at our 54 -55 spot.

So losing out on that tiebreaker. Interesting

that they're all coming up in this episode because

we've already seen two of them. other characters

from this medium, from this franchise, I guess.

And we're going to go back to the world of Lion

King for number 54. And this time, we're going

to go with a character named Mufasa. Obviously,

most famously voiced by James Earl Jones. I guess

the conversation now becomes, again, Lion King.

Three different representations all coming in

this episode so far. Maybe there will be more

to come. Who knows? And Mufasa outranking both

Simba. And Timon and Pumbaa, Amanda, what do

you make of all this? So, a little weird that

he's, or he, I guess anybody really from Lion

King is at this stage in the game here. I would

have think that they were a little bit higher.

It's just really iconic and well -known and loved

by a lot of people and a lot of generations now.

And I think that Mufasa being ahead of Simba,

I can kind of see it, but... I think Simba was

more in the forefront, whereas Mufasa was more

of the heart of the film. I can see that. Sketch,

is it a symptom or a reveal here of maybe a bias

amongst the list of fans of the movie of Lion

King? Or are there other properties that we could

maybe see? Because this one's not coming from,

this is not just like Looney Tunes or stuff like

that. This is a specific franchise, and we've

already seen three characters from that. What

do you make of it? I'm a little surprised, to

be honest. I'm not surprised to see Timon and

Pumbaa. A bit less surprised to see Simba. Mufasa

I'm kind of scratching my head on. I feel like

maybe people wanted to give lip service to one

really good dad character because there's a lot

of terrible dads in cartoons and there's very

few good ones. Simba, I'm very disappointed in

you. I know. You could have been killed. You

deliberately disobeyed me. And what's worse,

you put Nala in danger. I was just trying to

be brave like you. I'm only brave when I have

to be. Simba, being brave doesn't mean you go

looking for trouble. But you're not scared of

anything. I was today. You were? Yes. i thought

i might lose you oh i guess even kings get scared

huh but you know what what i think those hyenas

were even scared because nobody messes with your

dad come here you oh no no that's interesting

that you bring that up because I could kind of

see him making the list above some of the other

characters that have been on the list. I don't

know if I would necessarily say he's among the

100 best animated characters. There could be

another Lion King character. Haven't gotten to

the villain yet. I don't know. This list is getting

kind of weird. I guess for my thought process,

you kind of brought up the good dad thing. I

actually just did a recent top 10 for Geekcast

Radio Network on the best animated dads, and

he actually came out number one when I did that

list. So I think there's a lot to him as far

as the way he's presented and the morals and

the lessons he's teaching and a lot of things

that, like you said, we see a lot of bad cartoon

dads. So he scored maybe some bonus points for

me because I had him ranked in the top 20. Dan,

what do you make of Mufasa being here ahead of

Simba, ahead of Timon and Pumbaa? I mean, certainly

when you think of characters that have a presence

to them, Mufasa is up there. I mean, the entire

goings -on of Lion King, in a way, is based upon

him. His death, his life, he is kind of that

symbol that drives the movie in a lot of ways.

And I think he certainly, you know, James Earl

Jones' voice will do that for sure. And I think,

like we mentioned, as a father character, he's

one that has lived on and now memes everywhere

because there's that Lion King meme that we see.

forever and the life lessons that he gives and

yeah his time is short he you know but it says

a lot when a character was within a movie and

it's not that long period of time but it's such

a huge impact I mean obviously when people talk

about animated deaths he's probably maybe the

up there is the most iconic it's close I mean

yeah people will talk about Bambi's mother dying

spoiler alert but I think Mufasa I know. But

as a character, I think Mufasa is far more interesting

and much more of a presence than she is. I mean,

her death is more based upon the fact of her

relationship with Bambi. I think Mufasa certainly

has an impact there. So, yeah, it's hard, though,

when you compare it to other characters that

have much more development and things like that,

and you see them evolve throughout the movie

or throughout a cartoon series. So it's a challenge

when you compare those. So I certainly think

he belongs on this list more than Simba does.

But I honestly think of all the characters we

talked about, I think, I don't know, I think

because of their... Have they popped in other

things? To me, I think I would probably put the

highest of all the Lion King movies or characters

we've talked about so far. Neil, I'll give you

the final thoughts on Mufasa. What do you make

of everything that's going on here with all the

Lion King love? He must just be getting by on

good dead points because I don't know what he's

doing here. I said that Simba was kind of uninteresting,

but I think Simba should be higher than... than

Mufasa he's just he's not in the movie that long

and it's like another thing is that someone mentioned

you know Bambi's mom and I I had seen that as

a kid you know and then Optimus Prime died I

saw that in the theater and that wrecked my childhood

when this movie came along I'm like seen it and

it's like it didn't resonate with me it's just

like okay that's James Earl Jones you know he

sounds cool you know he's a good dad but he didn't

get a lot of character development so when he

died i was like i i sympathize with with simba

i i agree it was a very sad scene but you know

the character was there to die and he just didn't

that character without simba he just wouldn't

resonate at all actually that was freaking traumatizing

i don't know you're just so desensitized sir

maybe I guess it depends what you see first and

all this other type of stuff. But I don't know.

I think it's an interesting debate on Mufasa's

credentials there and whether he belongs or not.

The other part of that tiebreaker and who won

in that tiebreaker coming in at number 54, how

about... a character from the world of anime.

We're going to go with Totoro from My Neighbor

Totoro and the Miyazaki film from 1988. Dan,

you had mentioned that maybe we'd get another

anime character. Was this the one you were thinking

of, or do we still have hope for more to come?

I think there are probably some more. I wasn't

sure if Totoro would make it or not. I know we

did get some. other studio ghibli characters

up to this point and so it kind of makes sense

that we would get the character that legitimately

is the icon for studio ghibli and i know like

for specifically for japan totoro was such a

huge cultural I mean, his toys still are huge

sellers today. We talked about characters that

don't speak at all, and I guess he can add another

one to the list. I mean, of the other Studio

Ghibli characters we've talked about, I think

if you're looking at a character standpoint,

I think Nausicaa is one I would put. I probably

would switch these out because I like Tortorello.

He's a fun character. He's enjoyable, but he's

lovable, of course. there's not much to him in

a way. He's just kind of there. I guess if you're

just looking at cultural impact, he's huge. I

mean, maybe not so much in this country, but

in other countries. Yeah, you had it fairly close.

You had it at 48, and it comes in at 54. I actually

had this ranked in my top 15 just because, like

you said, the cultural impact that I felt went

along with him. Amanda, you've recently watched

this film, as we did, for the Miyazaki Spotlight.

What do you think of Totoro coming up right around

the halfway mark? I don't understand why he's

so high, but maybe that's just because I haven't

had much exposure to him until lately. And I

feel like I'm seeing him a lot more places now,

like driving through a town near us, Cherry Valley,

they have a scarecrow kind of contest thing where

businesses around the area put up scarecrows

and they call it like scarecrows on parade or

something. And there's like a giant Totoro. That's

one of the scarecrows. And I'm like, I would

never have known what this lumpy cat thing was

before this year. I mean, I think the film in

itself is really good. And I think Totoro is

interesting, but just because we don't really

get much about him yet. So maybe if there wasn't

this cultural barrier, I would understand why

he's so high. But yeah, I think that he's definitely

worthy of being on some list because he is so

iconic. Sketch, we had a handful of anime characters

last time with a character from Akira, from Princess

Mononoke. We had Astro Boy. We had Nausicaa,

like Dan mentioned. This is the first one we've

had today with Totoro. What do you think? Does

he deserve to be that much higher than those

other characters I just mentioned? I don't think

he should be higher than those other characters,

much less that much higher. I don't know how

Astro Boy is so low in comparison. And also,

I feel like Nausicaa is the best of the Ghibli

characters as a character. Totoro is more iconic,

so I can kind of understand with the way we're

structuring this list that he would be higher

than her, but I don't quite like it. I think

Totoro should be on the top 100. Not quite this

high. He is iconic, but as a character, he's

pretty lacking. And I never liked him that much.

All right, fair enough, fair enough. Neil, any

thoughts on Totoro? Well, I have a few anime

characters on my list, and he's not on mine.

I've seen the movie. I think he's a good character.

He's obviously a very iconic character. He was

in Toy Story 3, for Christ's sake. But, you know,

the movie is just, I don't know, it's typically

Studio Ghibli. And I think that, I don't know,

something about Studio Ghibli movies, they kind

of feel like someone, you know, kind of shaking

a puppy in your face. It's like, oh, it's really

cute, but, you know, it's kind of, okay, it gets

old. And I like the character. He's kind of this

big. owl cat looking thing and he's cuddly but

he's also a little bit scary because it's like

this there's this big thing that could crush

you and he's a bit but he loves he loves you

it's like dating kevin thanks for that he's like

eight feet taller than me Yeah, interesting,

though. Almost everybody that ranked him did

rank him in the top 50. All but one person that

put him on their list had him in the top 50.

I kind of wish Matt was here, because I think

he would have had some more awesome stuff to

say about Totoro. I'm sure he has a lot more

character detail that he could go into with Totoro.

We'll have to get his thoughts on a future time.

But only three spots remain for today on this

side of the 50 mark. So let's get to one of those

spots. 53. At number 53. Back to Looney Tunes.

And this time, we'll go a little bit different

here. I guess you could say a villain character.

And that is Marvin the Martian. So Marvin the

Martian is showing up here. Neil, you're the

only person on the panel that had him on your

top 100. So why did we all get it wrong to not

rank Marvin? Well, I wouldn't say that you're

wrong. It's just that you can only put so many

Looney Tunes characters on the list. I mean,

it... I think that if I had put every single

Looney Tunes character on here that I thought

was great, it would have been like a quarter

of my list. So some had to be sacrificed. Right.

He's a funny character. He's not in a lot of

cartoons. And oddly enough, I don't think he's

ever – we know his name, but I don't think I've

ever heard his name in a classic Warner Brothers

cartoon ever. Yeah, they didn't. Just that thing

where I didn't even know his name. He was just

like that guy. the centurion helmet on that kind

of like lost points for me as a kid but you know

i've come to i've come to uh love him he's he's

one of those great chuck jones characters i had

a few good cartoons with bugs and daffy and uh

i think he kind of came into his own later like

with the duck dodgers cartoon and other cartoons

of that nature but uh not not not really my favorite

looney tunes character a lot of greater ones

that i put on the list instead of him Alright,

Sketch, we've had a handful, a half dozen or

so Looney Tunes characters today. We've had Wile

E. Coyote, Roadrunner, Tweety, Porky Pig, Marvin

the Martian beats them all. What do you think?

I'm okay with Marvin beating all of them. I would

say Marvin's among some of my favorite one -off

Looney Tunes characters. you know it kind of

depends on the version of him he's he's got a

lot more personality in the duck dodgers cartoon

and even in the more recent looney tunes uh the

looney tunes show but i i didn't put him on my

list because like Like you said, there's so many

Looney Tunes, and there's so many other characters,

like Hanna -Barbera, Disney, and all of those.

So it's just kind of hard to squeeze Marvin on

there, but I'm okay with him being here, and

I'm also okay with him being that high among

the other Looney Tunes characters. But naturally,

he falls behind. I would figure he would fall

behind quite a few others. Speaking of that,

Dan, just based on the group that's been mentioned

today that I already read off all the names,

obviously we didn't have any in the first episode,

really, classic Looney Tunes characters. But

based on the ones mentioned today, what does

that say about the list going forward? And should

we expect, like Neil was saying, you could have

listed 25 Looney Tunes characters. Are we going

to see 25 more Looney Tunes characters in the

top 50? I wouldn't say 25. It's hard because

it's like Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian, they're

kind of two different ends of the spectrum in

a way. I wouldn't have mentioned with Porky Pig,

like I said, I feel like, what have you done

with me lately? As I feel like he moved away

from being a centerpiece, I felt like with Marvin

the Martian, he still is in a lot of ways. You

still see him pop up here and there. As mentioned,

he was in Space Jam as a referee, so there you

go. I know way too much about that movie. So

for me, he was always one of my, like, I always

enjoyed that character. I always found him to

be a lot of fun. I always enjoyed his adventures

and, like, his back and forth with Bugs Bunny

and other characters. So I really don't know

what this is because it's hard to really get

a grasp on what people are ranking when it comes

to these because, you know, I would think Marvin

the Martian would be. well behind someone like

Wile E. Coyote. So I don't know. It's strange,

like, thinking of, like, some of the other, like,

Yosemite Sam and some of those other ones that

I would have thought of would have come up by

now, but who knows if they're going to be on

the list at all. So it's kind of a weird mix.

If anybody else but Kevin would have compiled

this list, I would have been like, hmm, I feel

like there's some tampering going on because

this doesn't make any friggin' sense. No tampering.

What do you think, though, Marvin the Martian?

He's just, I don't think that he is worthy of

being this high at all. I think people know him.

I think he was another one of those characters

that was worn on a lot of gray sweatshirts in

the 90s, like Tweety Bird. I don't think he's

above Tweety by any means. Dan said probably

not 25. What do you think, 10? More Looney Tunes

characters in the top 50? Yeah, I can see that.

All right. We'll have to wait and see. 52. All

right. Only two spots left. Taking that 52nd

slot. Let's go back to the world of anime for

a 1990s character. And that would be from the

TV series and from the manga before that, Sailor

Moon coming in at 52. Let's start with you, Amanda.

You just got done talking. Let's let you talk

a little bit more. You had Sailor Moon at 76.

she comes in at 52. she definitely um got me

through some afternoons i always look forward

to seeing her i think that she is really well

known her and uh you know i don't even remember

the other like people in the group the other

sailors sailor mercury yeah i i think that they

were cool and i think they all had you know,

individual stuff going on. I don't remember a

lot of them right now, though. Like, maybe if

I rewatched it, I'd be like, oh, okay. But I

think that her showing up on the list is not

surprising. Not really sure about the ranking.

Maybe it's a good spot for her, I would say,

right in the middle. We had Sailor Moon in one

of the Facebook matchups as well, and I think

there was a couple people talking about how iconic

she was and how influential she was for certain

things that come after it. And even during that

time, Sketch, you had it very similar. Lord of

Mana, Amanda had Sailor Moon at 76. You had Sailor

Moon at 77. So what do you think of Sailor Moon

coming in here? I think this is a pretty good

spot for Sailor Moon. Definitely an iconic character

with a lot of reach. The whole magical girl superhero

genre in Japan really came out of Sailor Moon

and a few other shows. But Sailor Moon was easily

the biggest of all of those. And it's still popular

today. It was off the market for a little while

because of rights issues, but they brought it

back recently, and it's been killing it in sales

and video streams, and they made a new series.

And it's still very, very popular, very iconic.

I think Usagi Serena as a character is kind of

annoying. She has her good points. I like a lot

of her friends more as characters, but they definitely

don't stand out as much. I don't have time to

play these games with you. You're not getting

away! Now, Supreme! Hey, wait! We'll all be electrocuted!

So, really, the central character is the one

who's going to make the list. And I think this

is about right for Sailor Moon. Maybe a little

bit lower. But considering how iconic and how...

How long the franchise has been popular, I'm

not surprised to see it's pretty close to the

50s. Interesting that this is, I believe, the

first character that we've had that actually

has appeared on three different people's top

ten. So Sailor Moon was in three different people's

top ten. Two of them was in the top five. Dan,

you were more similar to Amanda in Sketch. You

had it at 88. So what are your thoughts of Sailor

Moon just missing the top 50? I mean, I did not

really watch Sailor Moon. My sister did, so I

kind of watched some here and there. So I'm not

maybe the best person to ask, but I do know if

you're talking about female anime characters,

she's hugely... influential on top of many people's

list and i'm sure a lot of people like you said

what do people on the top five so a lot of people

are going to argue that she should be much higher

i i'm not one that could argue for or against

that because i was just looking at just the overall

impact the character had and it's certainly certainly

there so i i guess depending on your your take

on the character you could say that she deserves

to be higher i'm fine for where she's at um It's

fine, I guess, overall. Like I said, I'm not

a huge Sailor Moon aficionado, so I kind of know

the song, but that's about it. Yeah, I think

all I know is the theme song. Neil, any thoughts

on Sailor Moon? Well, I didn't have her on my

list, and I think what it is is that I couldn't

tell if I would put her on the list if it was

based on the character or just on the show. The

character really didn't resonate with me, but

I understand why she's iconic. I have no problem

with where she's at. It's a show I've watched

maybe a handful of times and was like, okay,

this is silly, and then I moved on. Went and

watched Johnny Bravo instead, I guess. Oh, because

you're not a teenage girl. That might be. Yeah,

so Sailor Moon coming in at the 52nd spot, which

means there's only one more spot for today. 51.

You know, in the first episode, we only had three

Disney characters, and we've outdone ourselves

and had about eight now on this section of the

countdown. So we're going back to the world of

Disney, back to male protagonist. And interesting,

I guess we could have some conversations against

him and Simba, because at 51, we have Aladdin.

from 1992, or if you want to go folk tale -wise,

back into the 1700s. So a character that has

been around for a long time, but maybe just,

I guess, looking at the Disney version for this

list. Aladdin comes in at number 51. Amanda,

you expressed some dissatisfaction when one of

your top five Grinch came off the list. Aladdin,

just outside your top five, you had him at number

six. What do you think? He just missed the top

50. I'm glad that he beat out Simba, but... I

don't understand why he's this low. I think that

he was really fun and had a lot of... I don't

want to say potential. He had, like, a lot of

juice, like, a lot of spunk. Like, he had that

thing that we all wanted, and he, like, had confidence,

he had drive, and I think it made him a really

relatable character, too. Like, he was just a

regular guy, like we brought up before, and,

like... in the words of the great Drizzy Drake,

start from the bottom, now we're here. I mean,

definition of that, if you want to get down to

it. And I think his movie had a ton of really

awesome supporting cast. So we'll see if some

of those other side characters beat out the main

character here. Interesting. Yeah, we will have

to wait and see on that. Sketch, what do you

think of Aladdin beating out Simba and some of

the other Disney characters that we've talked

about so far? I'm okay with Aladdin beating out

probably all of them except Maleficent. Right.

Aladdin's a great character. He's got a lot of

charisma, personality. He's entertaining by himself,

and he's also entertaining when playing off of

other characters. And he's an underdog, and we

can all kind of appreciate that. So I think he's

got a good arc. a good enough character by himself

and he he's a protagonist that you want to root

for even though he occasionally does things that

you probably shouldn't be proud of i didn't even

care that he was stealing bread and shit like

i wasn't even paid by that hey man guys gotta

eat he gave those other orphans some bread too

he's looking out but yeah it was a melon but

you know samantha yeah So, yeah, I'm good with

him making the list. Didn't really come to my

mind, honestly, but I don't have a problem with

it. Neil, too much Disney love for us on this

episode? Or what do you think with Aladdin in

the last spot? Disney's not the problem. It's

just that I think Aladdin is another one of those

characters that kind of suffers from the Dudley

Do -Right effect, which is he is the least interesting

character in his own story. Like, everyone else

around him is goofy and funny. And as all these

great memorable lines and he doesn't really,

the genie is far more quotable than he is. I

mean, he doesn't really have any, have anything

like really something you could put on a t -shirt.

I would say he does. He does win in the end.

He's the one who I wasn't sure if I should even

bring that up, but yeah, I guess that's the one

quotable line of his, which allegedly isn't what

he said. I forget what the actual line is. It's

like, good teenagers take off your clothes or

something like that is what it sounds like, but

I don't know what the actual verbiage is. I'm

pretty sure that's not what it is. Yeah, he does

beat Jafar in the end, which is great. He's the

one who tricks Jafar. It's not the genie who

wins. The genie's just there to be the jokey

character. Aladdin is the hero, and I think he

is a better character than Simba. Definitely.

So I like that he's higher than Simba. Maybe

other Disney characters should be higher. Definitely.

Dan, this might be one example where you and

I both were able to keep our own personal bias

somewhat off the list because I know you're a

big fan of Aladdin as a film. I'm a huge fan

of Aladdin as a film. And neither one of us actually

had Aladdin on the list. Why were you trying

to keep personal bias off this list? Isn't this

something that's supposed to be a personal thing?

I was trying to keep it in check as much as I

possibly could. I'm not going to just put a bunch

of stuff that I know everybody else likes. I'm

going to put some shit on here that I like. No,

not about what everybody else likes, but about

cultural. impact, iconicness, and some things

like that had to factor in, at least for me.

Dan, what kept Aladdin off your list? I think

Blake mentioned some of the other characters

in the movie are overall more interesting, iconic,

and colorful characters than Aladdin. It is his

story, and I do think I would put him above Simba

because I do feel like he's a bigger part of

what's going on. He's far more charismatic. He

draws you in, and I think he is... much more

part of the story where simba is just kind of

uh things are happening around him um and like

yeah like you mentioned aladdin's probably my

all -time favorite disney movie but you know

i didn't want to have 5 000 characters from aladdin

and i felt like some other ones were a little

bit higher and you know where aladdin The characteristics

of his animated form are not all that different

than his original concept where the other animated

characters are more brand new and certainly a

lot more lively and become something completely

different because of the animated film. So that's

kind of why I went the other route with some

of the other ones and ranked them compared to

Aladdin. All right. Yeah, I think that must have

been my process, too, because I'm trying to figure

out how I didn't have Aladdin listed somewhere,

at least in the 90s maybe. But I just didn't

have enough spots for him. I'm sure if we expanded

this and we're doing 125 or 150, maybe he would

have found a spot. But I just didn't have the

slots for him, so he ended up being on the outside

looking in. But here he makes it on the last

spot of this side of 50. Real quick, just taking

a look at the list and ask you guys a few questions

to kind of get some closing thoughts on this

set of 25. Obviously, one thing that I mentioned.

early on that we only had three disney in the

first and then we had eight disney this time

so definitely more disney presence like dan mentioned

more of a looney tunes presence we had zero in

the first uh section and five in this section

i believe sketch you mentioned something about

the 90s possibly being a thing and we had nine

or ten 90s characters not just the disney love

from aladdin and the three lion king characters

but we also had the three cartoon network characters

and some things like that Other things to think

about, female characters. We had a plethora at

the beginning. We had four to almost start off

the show, and then we ended up with six total.

So six total female characters. We had, let's

see, three bad characters in Maleficent, Wile

E. Coyote, and Marvin the Martian, if you want

to count all of them as bad. Start with you,

Amanda. What are your thoughts on this section

of 25 here, on this side of 50? What did you

think? Surprises? Something you would boot out?

Something that you were happy showed up? What

do you think overall? I think I would definitely

boot out more than The Martian. I think this

was... one section that's had me shaking my head

a little bit and trying to figure out people's

process here because Johnny Bravo beating out

some of the people he did, I don't get that at

all. Didn't he beat out like a Ninja Turtle too?

Yeah. Jeez Louise. How did Johnny Bravo beat

out any of the Ninja Turtles? I don't get it.

But hey, I mean. Yeah. I mean, we did have a

little bit of variety here, though. I mean, we

did have a Dr. Seuss character. We had Fievel

in there. We had one Muppet. We had Archer. A

couple Pixar. Gromit from Aardman. Dan, one thing

that she mentioned, though, that made me think

of it, that we had a turtle last episode. Something

we had a bunch of in last episode was more of

those 80s action type things with Skeletor, Cobra

Commander, Donatello, Snake Eyes, etc., etc.

None of that today. What are your thoughts so

far overall from this set of 25? It is weird.

It's interesting seeing the Disney characters

that we did see. I figured we would see some

Disney characters, but some of the ones I didn't

expect. like Mufasa and a few others. It's weird.

It's hard to predict. I think it's kind of bound

to happen when you have such an open field with

characters like you do here. It's really hard

to really narrow a lot down. So it's really a

crapshoot in a lot of ways. So it makes me wonder,

you know, we talked about the 80s action. I'm

sure there are a handful that we're going to

see coming up along with... I'm really, really,

I think my biggest thing is surprising how underrepresented

something like the Looney Tunes are. And, like,

I'll bring that up again, and maybe there are

going to be, like, 30 in the top 50. But it's,

we'll see, I guess. Another thing that I wanted

to bring up, Sketch, that I just thought of,

too, is how underrepresented this section was

with the classic Hanna -Barbera or the whole

countdown overall. Yes, we've gotten some of

those kind of... hybrids of the hannah barbara

slash cartoon network that we talked about with

the 90s characters but outside of because i think

that's where space ghost was must have been getting

his love with last episode as well as a couple

other characters outside of droopy droopy and

dick dastardly we haven't had anything from classic

hannah barbara uh you can talk on that or you

can talk about any other points that have been

up but what are your thoughts so far sketch on

this set of 25 i think with the hannah barbara

we're gonna see a lot more in the top 50 uh they're

they're just more iconic very memorable they

come to mind easily so i i think we'll definitely

see probably not too many but i don't want to

say maybe maybe around 10 i feel okay that's

that's that's a possibility i feel like this

the first 25 that we did this next batch has

been kind of weird i think it really goes to

show you how everybody does their lists very

differently from each other right and factors

in different things and it's kind of hard to

wrap your brain around some of these choices

but i think also just the process in which these

characters points are added up can make for some

anomalies if you will yeah and other people probably

just really wanted a character on the list anywhere.

So they ranked them very highly just to make

sure that they got on the list, which definitely

kind of cooks the books a little bit. Yeah. That

just even crossed my mind when I'm making this

list. It's like, how much do I love these people?

How can I make sure that this gets on the list

somehow? Right. And for the most part, I try

not to do that as well. I try not to. Neil, some

heavy hitters or some at least iconic characters

that fell off the countdown here with Porky Pig,

Minnie Mouse, Maleficent, stuff like that. What

are your thoughts just overall on this set of

25 or all 50 that we've revealed so far? and

what does it have to say for what's still to

come? I think when you have such a pool of people

from various different generations, we all have

our idea of who the most iconic cartoon characters

are of all time, but when you try to mix them

all together and then you look at lists of how

it falls, it's like, what? What? Remember, too,

that this is over, what did I say, over 600 characters

got votes? Yeah. Something like that. As far

as what's going to be coming is that I'm fairly

certain you're going to see an avalanche of Looney

Tunes characters, maybe an avalanche of Hanna

-Barbera. I think Hanna -Barbera is a little

more spotty because they've been off TV more

often than the Looney Tunes characters. So, you

know, maybe a certain Stone Age family will get

in there, you know, had a very popular serial

for a number of years. Maybe they'll be up there.

maybe a certain bear and maybe, maybe a certain

great Dane and maybe not much else because Hanna

-Barbera has kind of a, a spotty nostalgia. I

love all of them, but you know, a lot of other

people, they just kind of look at me like, you

know, yeah. Who, who the hell is, who, who, who

the hell is quick draw McGraw? What the hell

are you talking about? I don't know if he's going

to show up on the list, but I expect that a lot

of the iconic ones will. Dan, we've had a couple

of last questions here before we wrap this up.

We've got a couple of different things pointed

out that we may be seeing, maybe a cascade of

Looney Tunes characters, maybe Hanna -Barbera,

maybe Disney. Which of those three companies

do you think reign supreme? And then a follow

-up there, because it made me think of it when

Neil was talking here of the Stone Age family.

We've hardly seen any... more prime time or adults

uh i guess quote unquote cartoons or characters

from those cartoons show up um should we expect

to see some of those as well well i think if

anything looking at what's come so far my guess

is disney's going to reign supreme especially

if you count pixar in that if you have like you

know some of the characters that we've had so

far And I guess for some of the primetime shows,

my guess is if, at least for me, and I think

just some people, what they probably did is when

you looked at some of those primetime shows is

pick one or two people. And then that's, you're

going to get some of, maybe that's going to cause

some of those to be ranked much higher. So I'm

a little surprised by that because when we talked

about, you know, the top animated, no, when we

did overall TV series. last year we did a lot

of the you know animated shows didn't make the

cut so i'm surprised we haven't really got you

know i guess if you want to count count archer

in that but beyond that i mean birdman and and

um space ghost as well but that's kind of a different

bag in a lot of ways so yeah no family guy no

simpsons on futurama it's that's kind of surprising

a little bit I hope that doesn't mean that we

get, like, you know, 10 Family Guy characters

in the top 15. I doubt that's going to happen.

But we might see one or two. My guess is we'll

probably see one character from each of those

shows, maybe two, three at the most. But, yeah,

and no South Broad characters. That's kind of

crazy. Yeah. So we'll have to wait and see if

that's a theme moving forward or not. But definitely

give us your feedback so far on what you've been

hearing and what your reactions are. We didn't

talk too much about feedback because we're going

to save all that for the wrap -up show. So we'll
