And shout out to Tim Silvers because Tim was

looking for this episode about two weeks ago.

However, two weeks ago or so the premieres were

just starting or they had already started and

we wanted to watch some of the pilots to be able

to give opinions as we go along. We're still

going to do this the same way we've done it every

year go by Usually we go by network and have

all the days of the week of the networks, but

the way that Mr.. Mike here has thrown out the

schedule. It's by dates and network so It'll

still be buying network, but it's more so ABC

and all their scheduling NBC and all their scheduling

So it's gonna be a little bit different than

it was last year, but that's gonna be good. That's

gonna be interesting What are you guys? What

were you guys watching over the summer over the

summer break Mike? Oh, man Okay, I know you have

a long ass list watch a lot of television, but

come on No, I wasn't expecting that I wasn't

I wasn't expecting it. First of all, I wasn't

expecting it to get thrown right to me, and I

wasn't expecting it to be summer TV shows. Well,

I mean, just to kind of like, you know. What

you watched to pass the time. It's kind of like

how you spent your summer vacation, but TV style.

No, I get it. I get what the question is. I wasn't

expecting it. No, I watch, obviously, Burned

Otis wrapped up this summer. Really enjoyed that

show. Don't know I caught I started watching

continuum this summer. Although I don't really

think that's a summer show It it might be I'm

not sure it's not But didn't the other ones start

like didn't season two It finished in August

Okay, so that makes it a surgery in May. So I

mean, yeah, I guess it is Yeah, I mean I watched

like rookie blue and some other things like that

Man, that's a tough one I gotta go back to that

show. I watched it like the first season for

like two or three episodes and then I don't know

I just kind of forgot about it. It's not that

good. It's really not. One of the reasons, so

everyone just knows, I watch a lot of TV because

I work two days a week and both of those shifts

are 15 hours and 17 hours so I have nothing to

do and I use TV to fill that time. So if people

go to X theater in Grand Blank Michigan and your

movie screws up, it's because Mike's watching

TV the entire time. Absolutely not, sir. I've

never screwed up a movie there. He's pro. Yes.

I mean, the summer is kind of like the crappy

season. You know, it's the crappy time. I'll

disagree, but I'll give my point afterward. Well,

I'm interested. Like, what shows do you watch

in the summer? because i well recently uh resilient

isles on tnt i started the end of the second

season beginning of the third so i still have

to watch the first season i have to get that

on dvd uh dallas returned after 30 some odd years

and that's a sequel series so i've been watching

that uh white collar is usually a summer winter

kind of It doesn't follow because these are all

cable shows. They don't follow the standard network

fall to spring schedule Other than that, I mean

those are my three main summer shows that I really

watch right now The Americans I watch that when

it's on I think it's coming back in January or

March I think actually I think that starts as

soon as American Horror Story ends Either that

or justified does either one's fine with me.

I Think they had that running alongside. See

I thought FX is weird. They do their stuff a

little strange But then again FX is strange as

a strange network. That's right as far as I'm

concerned 12 15 episode seasons No, yeah, I agree,

you know, I've I've been going back. All right.

Well for the summer I've started going back and

watching older like really older shows like my

mom and I watch Frasier and that was like 1993

to 2003 so and watching that show or watching

any of the older shows, it's usually 20 24 episode

seasons and granted that's a comedy, but still

it's a 24 is a long, long season to get through.

What else? You know, I mainly watch Investigation

Discovery now that I have a digital cable box

again, mainly because it is more interesting

than most of the stuff that's on TV today to

me. I don't know. What about you, Steve? How

would you spend your summer TV watching? Actually,

I started watching Continuum this summer with

my wife. I don't remember if it was because of

Booth Ninjas talking about it or if it was just

we stumbled upon it and started talking about

it. But it's actually a really good show. I think

only the first seasons on Netflix. I think the

second season went up just recently. Okay, I

think I obtained it other ways Because the second

season had just ended about the time we were

halfway through season one in August so That

was a show that we watched. It's pretty cool

with the futuristic time travel type of stuff

Watched whose line is it anyways revival? Watch

that as well a couple episodes. I I love the

show my only gripe with that is is that They

have too many guest stars and they go to commercial

break after every skit So yeah, that's my main

pet peeve with it and the other pet peeve is

is They don't have a variety on the fourth chair.

It tends to be the same people over and over

Instead of bringing back, you know They only

had one old fourth chair person Come in it just

for a guest spot But most of my gripes is the

fact they play the same games over and over and

then they had the guest stars that are from You

know, oh walking dead. Oh, you know Nikita. Oh,

you know, it's like we don't need that. It's

like just do the regular show Yeah Yeah, that's

my gripe with that show. My gripe with that show

is they... The way they used to do guest stars

in the Drew Carey version of it was... Well,

they had, like, Robin Williams was the fourth

chair, or they had, you know, Whoopi Goldberg's

fourth chair. I mean, they... What? They came

on and they stayed on, or if it was a guest that

needed to leave, they would come on for one skit

and then leave and not keep coming back and forth,

back and forth, back and forth. Yeah. So, on

Summer Show, I completely forgot about it, and

I don't know why, because it was excellent. Was

FX is the bridge Mm -hmm. I meant to check that

out. I just never It's actually really cool.

I like both the both the lead characters in it

and the supporting cast is actually a lot of

fun The the story kept you guessing because they

kept throwing curve balls it's like one of those

ones where you can't follow because they're not

giving you all the information but by the time

the the season's over you actually understand

more about what's going on but it was i was looking

for something that kind of hit that uh that justified

vibe and the bridge hit it pretty well so i will

say that um people in my circle of friends twisted

my arm into giving Breaking Bad a chance And

I'm not going to go into a full rant here or

anything about the show. I don't dislike the

show. I just don't think it's as powerful to

me as it is to other people. It took me three

seasons, three full seasons to actually get into

that show by the time the fourth season rolled

around. I was like, oh yeah, this is getting

good. And then it just, I understand the way

that story is being told. I understand that way

of storytelling. I just didn't find it as...

completely awesome as everyone else did. I think

the and I was talking to my wife about it today

because I just watched obviously a lot of people

watched the finale last night. I am. But I only

like season two and the last season like season

two and season five are the only ones that I

actually enjoy. I can't season one was very slow

because almost nothing happens. And I don't like

where the character went and three and four but

I I was trying to explain it to her I think the

reason that it's it's it's so it's being it's

critically acclaimed and people think it's it's

it's great for television is Because the like

like you said the way that it's told it's not

smash cut here smash cut there. It's everything

is thought out and plotted and it doesn't treat

you, it doesn't treat its audience like it's

dumb. It's like either you get it or you don't.

And it's in a lot of TV shows now, especially

are there a lot of TV shows are geared towards

the teenage audience where it's like smash cuts

and real fast editing and you can't tell what's

going on. Like everything in Breaking Bad is

deliberate and it's different from what most

people are used to. And in a world where We get

the smash cuts and we have a whole lot of reality

television or after shows. Yeah. And Breaking

Bad is like a it stands out in that world. I

mean, there are. Yeah, it does stand out. And

I think that's why it's being praised, because

it's good. It's good television. And you don't

get that a lot anymore. Yeah. I stayed up to

watch the, well I actually DVR'd it, but I watched

the Talking Bad, the Chris Hardwick show that's

the after show analyzing it for the finale and

I watched it because I wanted to hear what Vince

Gilligan had to say about or Gilligan or whatever

his name is. I wanted to see what he had to say

about the finale and about the show overall.

My main complaint about that is What the fuck

is Jimmy Kimmel doing on that as a damn guest?

He has nothing to do. I understand they bring

in certain actors from other shows or other things

or comedians from other things because Chris

Hardwick is a comedian himself. But that was

the one thing about talking bad the other night

that I just was like, Oh God, get Kimmel off

the fricking stage, please. Maybe he's just a

fan. Maybe. I don't know. I don't know. Just

some of the stuff he said just. wasn't as funny

as he thought it was supposed to be. So alright,

that's our summer. Any other summer thoughts,

guys? Nope. I watched cartoons. We're the Batman.

Yeah, but we're the Batman's pretty awesome.

Maybe we should do a cartoon seasonal preview

show. Cartoons are ridiculous because they almost

run year round. Yeah, it's like retarded. I caught

Ninja Turtles, that's what I watched this summer.

I did watch that as well. Turtles was awesome.

It's already coming back for a second season.

Barr as Krang Prime wasn't as bad as I thought

it was gonna be. Except the Krangs in that series

annoy me as much as the droids in Star Wars annoy

people. I've gotten used to them going, we are

the Krang and the Krang are fighting the turtles

because the Krang said so. Well, yeah, I mean,

and in case in point, it's all about like the

droids in or the battle droids in the three prequel

movies were a lot more annoying than the battle

droids and like the Clone Wars series. So it's

all about how you use them. Oh, yeah. Alright,

at 8, 7 Central, which is a Monday. Any thoughts

it hasn't started yet, so there's not, I can't

say anything. I've watched the five minute preview

that's on, for those that have Comcast on demand,

it's on there as a lot of the shows are for a

five minute preview of them. I'm kind of intrigued

by the whole thing. It's kind of giving me an

iRobot vibe, like the Will Smith and then the

Android that can think kind of thing, except

this is more sophisticated Android to the point

that they make Carl Urban's character kind of

like Will Smith's character in that film. And

he distrusts robots and androids and everything

else and ends up with a synthetic limb. arm or

whatever so it's kind of a copy in a sense but

the android that he's working with or gets partnered

with is a highly evolved android that is kind

of it's more lifelike and not remote controlled

so it's kind of a different situation for him

to try and learn it's done by JJ Abrams so I'm

kind of interested to see where that goes Yeah.

Yeah. I mean, Carl Urban and JT Abrams, I'll

tune in. I'll give anything they do a shot. Yeah,

I'll give a shot to that only because it's those

two. Otherwise, I probably would have just passed

by it. All right. Okay, so for those that don't

know almost human I should have read the description

show But not to be confused with sci -fi is being

human in this futuristic cop drama from fringes

JJ Abrams and JH Wyman human LAPD officers like

Karl Urban's John Kennex are partnered with highly

evolved androids like Michael Ely's Dorian Yes,

it's like mac and cheese except with more lifelike

robots and without the awkward due to Remote

control them Yep, and just so I mean Okay What

a local Louisville, Kentucky girl is on this

show, Sykes Maggie Lawson. She originally started

here in Louisville, Kentucky on WDRB Fox 41.

I know nothing about this show. Yeah, I don't

all -star softball player and uh... her father

is james can which is kind of funny seeing that

this particular fall season there's a lot of

film stars coming back to t t yeah very uh...

a whole lot of film stars i mean i already have

carl urbain and you have james can so i mean

it's but he's supposed to be a drunk ex baseball

player in this and kind of he's kind of uh...

asked to being that he's helping coach so it's

like a league of their own for tv or or bad news

bears in a sense yeah that too i don't have any

interest in even looking at this one um i just

don't uh recently uh this past sunday betrayal

premiered on abc at uh 10 9 central uh which

uh you know what when i watch this i'm like hey

They took the Richard Gere unfaithful movie and

made a TV series out of it. Yay. It's a spinoff

of revenge Yeah Well, is it really? Yeah It says

it follows Emily Thorne and companies and then

I think that just means it's on after them It

just means that it's I have it's not it's not

saying that it's a snow if it was a spinoff of

revenge I did be fair in my defense, there's

a lot of spin -offs going to be happening from

shows. Oh, yeah. Yeah, no. We're not throwing

you under the bus. No, and that's why it's confusing

is because there's already talks of two that

I know of. Yeah. Anybody else besides me see

the pilot for this? Nope. Nope. It was interesting.

It could be kind of cool. It's your basic TV

kind of plot. You know, wife isn't getting any

attention from her superstar DA husband, so she

turns to this other guy. It's basically a kind

of a... Has anyone noticed how ABC has, I'm sorry,

taken daytime soap operas and put them in prime

time and made them, you know, they put that...

the primetime film over the stuff so it doesn't

look like daytime tv but it's all the same stuff

yeah yeah abc is really uh pulling straws out

of their ass uh over on nbc which premiered monday

september 23rd at 10 9 central is one of my new

favorite shows of the season the blacklist starring

james spader uh this is one of the more interesting

cop Type of procedurals that I've seen in a long

time This is really really interesting he basically

his character basically forces the FBI to work

for him Well, if you actually watched it the

I mean, I'm not saying you didn't but It compares

very easily with the silence of lambs like it

says in there, but I realized that while I was

watching it Because the the Elizabeth Keen is

like the Clarice Starling. Yeah, and James Spader's

character is like the Hannibal Lecter only he

doesn't eat people Thankfully so But yeah, I

mean it's it's an interesting take I mean he's

kind of double -crossed other super criminals

on a blacklist and kind of You know He's controlling

everything. So I mean, it's it's interesting

to see how that's going to turn out I definitely

like what I saw in the first episode though.

This I think this is another I really enjoyed

the first episode I think The lead female is

his daughter And we're alive. No, no, no, like

I think no in the show. Yes. Yeah, I think it's

gonna end up being his daughter Thought that

as soon as as soon as she said her father was

a criminal who yeah That whole show out but by

the end of it. I was like, yep, and then there's

this is another one There's another show that's

gonna be on this list that I'll mention it too.

I'm I'm wondering about you know, how I'm wondering

if this is gonna be another they're gonna try

the 15 episode thing or if it's actually gonna

be 22 episodes for this because The blacklist

yeah, like some things. I just don't I can't

see them going 22 episodes Like how do you keep

a story that tight without it? Just becoming

formulaic? I mean, it's gonna get unraveled at

some point There's gonna be some kind of throwaway

or it's gonna end up being like Breakout Kings

or you know the villain of the week kind of thing

and That's what I don't want. I can just see

it going now that rat hole though That's unfortunate

Yeah All right up next we have over on Fox which

premiered Tuesday September 17th at 8 7 Central

Central Brooklyn 9 9 from the some of the people

from Parks and Recreation Anybody watch this

I did as you Caught the first two episodes. I

actually I actually left Out loud I I don't have

a problem with Andy Samberg He actually reminds

me of a guy used to work with But I I thought

the cast was was funny, I mean they're they're

basically just playing caricatures of You know

people that are like in more realistic procedural

shows So it's it's it's funny it I hope they

can't really I mean, it's worth checking out

at least the first episode because that's You're

gonna get you're gonna figure out what the show

is just by watching the first episode It's not

like one of those ones where give it to try give

it two episodes and you'll you know If you like

it, then you won't I think after watching one,

you know spending 22 minutes of your time You'll

figure out pretty quick if you actually like

it or not Alrighty then and I know one of our

listeners or at least one of our commenters on

the website likes it I forget which one it was

but they commented on the altered geek post about

it. I mean, it's it's Fox So it'll probably get

cancelled in like six episodes and then it'll

get renewed and then it'll get cancelled again.

So Yeah, that is true. Fox is notorious for that

because it's Fox They'll give them 23 episodes

after after 13 of them it'll get cancelled. There'll

be an online petition for people to bring it

back nine years after it died. Futurama? Thank

you. Moving on over to, go ahead, Mike, what

were you going to say? Brooklyn Nine -Nine kind

of reminds, I don't know if any of you guys caught

it, it was another Fox comedy that I was actually,

what my joke was about, which was breaking in.

Did anybody see that? No. The first season of

it, I watched the first season because it had

like a Rosenbaum in it. Yeah, and he was playing

like the douchebag boyfriend of one of the female

leads in the series He totally stole that show

he was great But I got canceled after I think

six up six or twelve episodes He got canceled

and then of course you got the online petition

and then Fox brought it back for another 13 episodes

But then of course nobody watched it So it got

canceled again, but Michael Rosenbaum dropped

after the first season yeah anything that guy

does he brings all the hilarity in the world

to it doesn't matter what it is all right moving

on over to CBS which premiered Thursday September

26th at 9 8 Central is the return of Mork from

Ork that's right Robin Williams makes his television

return in the crazy ones I saw this and I was

really surprised that Sarah Michelle Gellar is

on CBS Why I don't know she just does like she

had ringer a couple of years ago And then I thought

she went back to making movies. I mean, I like

her in this. I thought this Good Steve. I was

gonna say she hasn't really had a hit since Buffy

the vampire slayer and That's pretty much it

and she was on WB and then CW which are still

Warner Brothers So this is you know, the first

time she's been off that station for the most

part I'm not really that surprised because I

don't really care what station they're on as

long as they can act and do a good show. But

I did find this series very interesting. Just

for the fact that Robin Williams is playing his

stereotypical self. And it fits into the sitcom

really well. Yeah, it does. So wait, was Ringer

on CW? Yes, yes. Really? Yeah. Yeah. and it was

canceled yes because what they did was how they

promoted it how they promoted the pilot was sir

michelle giller returns to the network that launched

her because that's where because when it was

wb uh obviously that's when buffy launched on

that so okay uh but yeah first i'm i'm surprised

the show on cw was canceled um second of all

i mean not very often but it does Well, it was

interesting because I didn't think I know Mike

you like ringer But I couldn't watch more than

I don't even think I made it through the first

episode before I turned it off because I can't

stand Sarah Michelle Geller, but I I knew almost

immediately that it was going to get canceled

But the fact that was on CW never never came

across to me is like it Oh a show on CW is actually

getting a bad show and the CW is actually getting

canceled So actually kind of surprised I did

not catch the crazy ones because one I don't

care for much that's on CBS and again Sarah Michelle

Giller doesn't do anything for me at all. I will

say that the most hilarious part of the entire

premiere was the the Kelly Clarkson cameo guest

spot. You need to watch it just for that. Well

it's in the dynamic between the younger guy that's

with Robin Williams in the in the show. It seems

like he can almost be his kid just because of

how Off the walls he can get just like Robin

Williams does So it's very fitting how a lot

of the stuff played out and then sir Michelle

Gallagher is of course this like stiff kind of

Personality that kind of like she's always played

So, I mean it's you know, I didn't care for her

but The way she acts fit perfectly with this

show because she's kind of like the hard ass

and Robin Williams is the guy beating up a rock

-em -sock -em robot in the beginning. My wife

wants to check it out so maybe I'll snag it for

her. It's actually more funny than a lot of the

comedies that have come back. It's more so she...

She sets him up and Robin knocks him down. That's

pretty much what it is. Like she'll say something

and he'll twist it and turn it around on her

and he's basically making fun of the character

that she is. But there are a few touching moments

in it as well. So, up next is Dads, which was

premiered on Fox Tuesday, September 17th at 8

-7 Central. uh... seth mcfarland back to t v

uh... i did see the preview for this i still

have not i've been meaning to jump on hulu and

watch the first two episodes i have yet to do

so i saw the uh... the promo trailers and stuff

and uh... the fact that martin maul is in its

just really makes me wanna watch it because i

guess hilarious have you guys seen the any of

the episodes of dads yet No, it doesn't even

really entice me I mean I I like Seth Green and

stuff, but I don't particularly care for a lot

of Seth MacFarlane's stuff outside of Family

Guy I Did not know it was a Seth MacFarlane show.

I'll have to check it out Cuz if they I mean

I I'm interested to see if it's able to do what

Again having not seen it Knowing Seth MacFarlane.

I I liked the show don't trust the bitch in apartment

23 Yeah That to me the best description I can

give for that is like a live -action cartoon

yeah, they do the They do the family guy thing

or where it is where it's like they'll mention

something and then they'll cut away to it and

Show it to you for like five seconds and then

jump back into the show They they did that And

uh, and don't trust the bitch in apartment 23

So i'm kind of hoping maybe seth carries that

trademark thing over to dads. I'll have to check

this out Well, the funny thing about this comedy

is that it stars seth green and steve said it

also stars giovanni ribsey Which the only thing

i've ever seen him in was gone in 60 seconds

He was great in uh sky captain in the world of

tomorrow. Oh he was okay All right back over

to NBC which premieres later in October on October

25th at 10 9 central on Friday is Dracula I'll

see it Come on We already have enough vampire

shows around but you know what though just going

off for this description here I am willing to

I'm willing to give this one a try because it's

there looks like it in the description here It

sounds like they're using Bram Stoker's Dracula,

which is the Dracula Instead of the you know

the sparkling fairies from Twilight I'm kind

of hoping that it re -educates the population

as to what a proper vampire is Yes, well, I think

true blood does that a little bit doesn't it?

I don't know I don't want yeah I mean there are

other shows too, but I think Dracula could be

like an end up being like a mainstream thing

Plus it looks like a period piece, and I like

those Yeah, cool. It could be alright. I just

I Not. I don't know. There's not very many new

shows that I plan on actually watching. At least

not right away. Back over on Fox, premiering

in November, November 8th at 9, 8 Central on

Friday is enlisted. OK, what is this? This is.

Very comedy is three very different brothers

who must learn to work together when they are

assigned to the rear detachment a base for soldiers

not deployed overseas Okay, no disrespect to

the military love them for everything that they've

done You know, but I don't like shows like this

because I think it's making fun of the military.

I Just can't have you seen anything about her.

You just read a description Well, it's supposed

to be based off of an actual guy's relationship

with his actual brothers and It's it's based

on kind of truish events. So it's I mean I could

see where that's not actually making fun of them

Right. No, and I understand that but generally

I shy away from You know military calm because

it does say in here that it's a comedy. So I

got comedy of geeks and we don't get pissed at

them. I don't find Big Bang Theory disrespectful

to the geek culture, even though at this point

it kind of pokes - Oh, that's what Chuck's job

was for. That's what what? Chuck's job was for.

Yeah, Big Bang Theory still kind of pokes at

geek culture. So, I mean, it applies to all areas.

I'll probably give it my two episode shake, then

it'll probably go right to the train wreck pile.

Hey, it's Fox. That's the only reason that we

can say it's a train wreck because most of the

shows that are new to Fox get bombed. My train

wreck shows are something that I still watch.

I will still watch them on a weekly basis because,

oh, they might get good. You never know. I kind

of just have to see how it ends. I have a hard

time. Once I start watching a show, I have a

hard time stopping watching it right in the middle

because it's like... Gotta follow it through,

man. So I guess Renner missed the cut on that,

didn't it? Oh, Renner was bad right from the

get -go. No, it wasn't. Anyway, that's an argument

for another day. All right, moving over to ABC,

which premiered Tuesday, September 24th at 9,

8 Central. We have the Goldbergs. I did not watch

this. Dan O 'Rourke off the cuff did. He said

it was funny. Did he? Yeah, it's... Basically

get your parachute pants ready and shoulder pads

It's a it's a comedy for the 80s and I love the

decade of the 80s, but I don't I know I don't

like a lot of stuff ABC is doing I just don't

What are you gonna say Steve? Well, I was gonna

say that a lot of the a lot of the ABC shows

in Fox are kind of hit or miss at this point

I'm not saying that they're all good, but I think

it's they're all trying to hit with these goofy

comedies Trying to capitalize on other shows

that either a they lost or got cancelled or other

ones that they're trying to fill the void Of

shows that are kind of winding down at this point

But This definitely looks like an 80s show I

mean from some of the footage that I've seen

in from the five -minute clip type stuff It's

it's definitely very very very 80s, and it does

feel like an 80s comedy Like you would watch

but it's I Wouldn't say that it's something that

I I mean I'll probably give them all a chance

I'll probably download a couple episodes or something

because I am never home when these are on or

at my piece or at my TV so I'll end up having

to catch them after the fact or watching them

on their websites, but This isn't really one

that I I care too much to watch week to week

If I can see the show if it stays where it is,

I don't think the show will get cancelled Simply

because of what comes before it Which is shield

We'll get to that I'm just saying that's if the

lead -in audience to this It probably won't get

cancelled because of that alone. Moving back

over to CBS, we have Hostages, which premiered

Monday, September 23rd at 10, 9 Central. This

is based on an Israeli series that was never

produced. That's interesting. I watched it. Did

you? Is it any good? When I first sat down to

watch it it like, you know This is one of those

shows where I sat down and I started watching

I was like, okay, this cannot go on for 22 episodes.

I don't know how it can go on for multiple It's

gonna consist of 15 episodes Well, yeah, the

first season consists of 15 episodes and after

I found out about that I was like, oh, okay Well,

maybe they're just gonna do like another anthology

thing kind of like American Horror Story is doing

But maybe not that stuff isn't clear yet. I liked

the show The only issue I had with the first

episode is they are it's a fit It's about a family

who is they're taking hostage and the people

that the kidnappers or the hostage takers have

something over each of the family members to

get them to do what they want them to do and

the the blackmail that they have against the

father figure is the most flimsiest like With

what's at stake, the blackmail stuff that they

have on him, it shouldn't even be a thing. It's

the most ridiculous thing. So it's basically

trying to be a serious version of the 1985 classic

movie Clue with Tim Curry. It's basically what

I think of when you tell me that description

of that it's... You know, these people are being

each member of this family is being blackmailed.

It reminds me a clue. Well, I mean, it's I guess.

I just, you know, I can't I don't want to spoil

anything, but basically I won't spoil the bigger

thing. But what they're holding over the father

figure is that he cheated on his wife. They're

they're like, if you don't if you don't tell

your wife to do what we want her to do, we will

tell her that you were cheating on her. And when

you realize what the hostage takers are asking

the wife to do. Not exactly a compromise you

can make like if I was in this situation I would

just go right over there and be like listen,

honey. I cheated on you They were holding that

over my head so that you would go and do something

for them We'll deal with our problem later. But

right now let's not have that be a problem. I

Just want I can't it that that was the only thing

that Rubbed me the wrong way about that the first

episode. It seems like a petty thing. Anyway,

doesn't it? Yeah, I mean that's that's such a

small thing by comparison of killing the president

that's it doesn't even compare her right so it's

yeah, I mean the the premise of the the whole

thing and the roles that you know, some of them

play like What is it Dylan McDermott yeah, I

Think that it looks promising. I mean I I'll

certainly give it a shot once I get a couple

more episodes in my stash and I can watch them

more than once, more than one in a row, but it

definitely looks interesting. Over on NBC, Wednesday,

October 2nd at 10 -9 Central, we have the premiere

of Ironside, and apparently NBC is digging into

its past to look for another hit. A remake of

its 1960s series, The Police Procedural stars

Blair Underwood as the titular detective in a

wheelchair made famous by Raymond Burr. I never

saw reruns in the 80s as a kid of Ironsides,

so I might check this out, but I don't know.

It's a police procedural. The description doesn't

really give anything else other than it's a police

procedural, and it's a remake of an old show,

so I'm not sure. I'll give it a try, but I don't

know if I'll actually stick with it. They play

these ads for the show in front of the movies

at the movie theater. And every time I see it,

there isn't anyone that I know that doesn't laugh

at the commercial. Like the premise for it is

so. Out there, I guess, like for some people

now that they just, you know, it comes off as

more of a comedy. But I hate that I hate the

term police procedural or procedural in general,

I think. anything as a procedural but that's

just we could talk about that another time but

I think slapping like that police procedural

stuff on some of these things it that that turns

to like a lot of people off like if you if like

that's the first thing you tell someone oh it's

a procedural oh I'm out like I don't know yeah

I'll watch it Steve are you gonna give it a try

probably not it just It doesn't sound like anything

I'd care about I really don't care for a lot

of police basic Police premised shows. I mean,

it's not it's just not my thing Yeah And Do had

John Travolta is not attached to this next one

because On ABC premier which premiered Tuesday,

September 24th at 10 9 central was lucky 7 This

is an adaptation of the British series The Syndicate.

Seven employees of a gas station have their lives

upended when they win the lottery. And the only

reason why I made the John Travolta joke is he

did a movie called Lucky Numbers at one point.

You know what this sounds to me? It's... What

was that other show? Oh, man. There was another

show about people working at a gas station. I

forget what it was. I think it was on... FX or

something or I don't remember I Did not see this

anybody watch this one. Nope. No doesn't even

register for me Moving on over to the Elephant

of death in the room now I'm hoping my cohorts

here will let me get this rant out before they

start defying me as long no hold on as long as

you don't start dropping the f -bomb i'm good

okay my opinion this will always be my opinion

colson is dead he's flipping dead that's it the

whole point of the avengers film to bring the

team together was for him to die i'd get it comic

book characters with the exception of thomas

and martha wayne and and uh... uncle ben from

spider -man die and come back to life all the

friggin time but to me colson dying in the movie

added so much to the movie in this show marvel's

agents of shield which premiered tuesday september

24th at 8 7 central on abc just takes away from

that emotion for me as far as my overall opinion

on agents of shield it's if there wasn't marvel

marvel characters attached attached to it it

would be government agency of spies procedural

Going after criminals in the world That's really

the only the only thing that adds to the show

difference is that it has Marvel's name on it

and its shield The only way that I will continue

watching this after the pilot is if we get cameos

from any of the film heroes or if we get cameos

from Nick Fury or anything like that. The only

two reasons I enjoyed the show was because I

liked the character of Skye and I liked that

they brought back the chick that played Maria

Hill in the film. The overall plot of the pilot

was just boring to me. It just bored the crap

out of me. Okay, right over. And silence, yay!

Well, Steve and I talked about this on Altergeek

and We went back, when we were done recording,

Steve went back through Avengers. And it's actually

kind of clear that Nick Fury lied to them about

what happened to Coulson. And even when I watched

the movie and that line came across like the

first time I saw it, I was like, he's not dead.

I mean, and Nick Fury in the comics is notoriously

manipulative. And dickish and he's never been

that in the movies until that moment and and

I agree with that and bring Colson back And showing

that he actually lied and manipulated them Manipulated

the the Avengers into doing what he wanted them

to do Yes, it it makes his character it it makes

him more like a dick Yeah, and I think it all

plays just fine because that's that's who Nick

is he's I I want them to do this I have an opportunity

to make them do this and He plays, you know,

he plays the cards He plays the captain's cards

is what he does Even Maria Hill she states she's

like Those were in ancient Colson's locker and

he says they needed just he says they needed

the right kind of shove Right and I and I get

that and I understand that for the film But just

to and I don't care what anybody says a definition

of a cash grab is on Marvel doesn't need a damn

cash grab But this show to me is a cash grab

on the Marvel name and the character of Coulson

sure It's great that Clark Gregg has a regular

gig. That's that's great. He's a good actor but

for me And I've seen this online that people

are gonna be like, oh, they mentioned that Coulson

can never know. And someone said online, oh,

this Coulson is gonna be the life model decoy

and blah, blah, blah. That's the worst gimmick

in the world to me. It just is, in my opinion.

It's still a comic. I know. I understand that.

And it just... Again, the the pie and the other

thing I don't like is the rest of the team Outside

of the two core characters only one episode in

though. So you mean you can't really judge it

see the thing about Sure, I can I mean, it's

not like I just saw a trailer and no, okay. Yes,

you can here's here's the thing Agents of shield

like this pilot was shot like months ago. Like

it's not it's not like a lot of TV where it's

you know Like a couple like a couple weeks out

or whatever like this was done like months ago

And it was shown and focus tested and people

were like, oh we like this and like that and

they're able to make like subtle changes But

like bigger changes to characters They weren't

actually they aren't actually able to make those

changes until they like bigger complaints that

people have with characters Like I there isn't

like a whole lot of the characters that like

I didn't like any of the female characters in

this I didn't like any of the lines that Joss

gave them. I I don't I didn't care like I wanted

to like them. I wanted to like them as characters

I don't I didn't hate them because there are

women I just hated them because the way just

wrote them hid the lines that he gave them and

I feel like you know, I this is one of those

shows where it's the second episode that is going

to make or break this because the second episode

is going to be as far as characters are concerned

you're going to get a reintroduction of the characters

that you met in the first episode but they're

going to be slightly tweaked like the way that

they speak might be slightly different or like

a hairstyle will be drastically different or

the way they delivered their lines will be different

but you'll get you'll get a new story but you'll

get like the characters will be subtly different,

and that'll be the characters that they get throughout

the rest of the season. So, yeah, you can make

an assessment and judge off of the first episode,

that's fine. You're critiquing the first episode,

but I'm pretty sure that all the critiques we

have about the first episode were also critiques

they probably got when they focus -tested it,

and if they didn't make any changes going into

episode two, then they're just dumb. But I was

talking to Dan or earlier today about this and

I think and we talked about an altered geek I

feel like I don't I didn't like the Avengers

as much as everybody else did and I don't I'm

not you know, I don't bow at the altar of Joss

Whedon and I I don't either the only show that

I really enjoy the entirety of the show of his

is angel I mean, I enjoy certain seasons of Buffy.

I enjoy every now and then firefly, but I'm not

I'm not one of those people either. I just think

that what will make or break this show is my

own expectations for it. I have such high and

lofty expectations that the ideas that Steve

and I talked about, it's like I want to believe

that Disney and Marvel have had those conversations

about this show and that they'll deliver some

version of what I want, what I'm geeking out

about. And, you know, it'll fail because of my

expectations, not because it won't be a good

show. It just won't meet my expectations. I don't

really think it can meet my expectations Well,

and the other thing is is it's bridging the gap

between the films It's explaining things that

for instance, you know They they talk touch on

the extremists. They touch on the New York. They're

they're essentially filling the gaps that should

have been in the films that weren't there and

Kind of bridging the in -between parts so that

the films can kind of still kind of stand on

their own But for those wanting a little bit

deeper explanation into things and to see some

of the politics behind SHIELD, it kind of adds

that extra layer to it. It's not necessary, but

it works. It shows the human element of the events

that take place on the silver screen. And I think

that... like this is kind of like if you go to

the comic shop and you pick up the like the prequel

issues to like iron man 3 or like the prequel

issues to the avengers i think like agents of

shield could be the live action version of those

comics i can speak to the prequel issues of iron

man 3 no it can't because the prequel issues

of iron man 3 the two issue miniseries that that

was done with was An adventure with roadie. Okay,

i'm not talking about like they can't take the

straight about them We're not i'm not saying

like they they adapt those those comics i'm saying

it could be those types of stories like the the

prequel thing to agents to the prequel the six

issue prequel to avengers is all about What colson

was doing and where he was popping up in all

the individual like movies? It was like what

he was doing like where he was going behind the

scenes, and I think this can be that So people

don't so, you know people can get this like the

mainstream audience the people that are actually

funding Avengers because let's face it. It's

not just geeks that are funding the the Marvel

Cinematic Universe This is agents of shield is

for the people that don't want to go into a comic

book store and read the comics but still want

to You know still want something? To you know

have fun with tied them over. Yes Well, and not

only that, but it also helps explain, for instance,

some of the instances, and I'm sure they'll get

into a little bit of it, where their presence

has been in some of the films, like, namely,

Iron Man 3. Oh, man, after what I read today

online, I almost hit my head against the desk

if I had one. You're so much more irritated with

Iron Man 3 now, but anyways. Moving on, back

over to NBC, The Michael J. Fox Show premiered

Thursday, September 26th at 9, 8 Central. 13

years after leaving Spin City, Fox is returning

to TV full -time as a character with Parkinson's

because it is based on his life. Fox plays Mike

Henry, a news anchor who retired to focus on

his health and his family, which includes Betsy

Brent as his wife, and decides to return to work

five years later. How much is NBC banking on

the beloved three -time Emmy winner? The comedy

received a straight -to -series order of 22 episodes.

I watched this. I watched the first two episodes.

I love Michael J. Fox. Don't get me wrong. My

main gripe with this show is they didn't base

it. It's loosely based on his life. It's based

on the fact that he does have Parkinson's in

real life, but everything else about the show

is fictionalized. I would have preferred it if

it was kind of like a documentary slash commentary

comedy. basically saying hey this is called the

Michael J Fox show because it's Michael J Fox

and his family you know not just some fictionalized

version of him but it was endearing it was funny

you know it you know it shows it shows one scene

that was shown in like the previews and stuff

where one guy asks him for an autograph because

that person's father has Alzheimer's and Michael

says I have Parkinson's and the guy says either

way Mean it is funny. It is endearing. It's it's

nice to see him back on The small screen on TV,

but I don't know if I'll be watching this for

the full 22 episodes. Oh, I will I will I I I

could see the Obviously, it's it's fictional.

I mean if it's not fictional would just be another

reality TV show I'm actually glad it's scripted

so you can actually see him like act I don't

and I don't want I didn't want something like

True to how his life is and I I mean I can get

I get the the analogies that they're making to

him Because he's you know, he was a news anchor

He's been up there for five years. I mean, that's

not 13, but he's basically it's it's you know,

I can I See him like I see it being you know

about his about his life and one of the things

that I was kind of worried about because he showed

up on the Emmys I think it was I was kind of

I saw him on there and I was like, oh, man. But

actually, after seeing him on this show and the

way the show treats the Parkinson's thing as

like almost like a non -issue, I totally I think

this might be one of my favorite shows of the

fall because I there isn't really anything I

don't like about this show. And it's so far from

what I can tell the thing that I didn't like

about the first episode was his Assistant who's

either crying or throwing up the entire time

Yeah, she was absent from the second episode.

So she's gone for the rest of the season awesome

But that's like the only thing I didn't really

care for otherwise. I like Michael J Fox like

the rest of the cast I think his family is funny

Yeah, it's nice to see Bessie Brand doing something

other than playing Marie on Breaking Bad Steve

did you catch I caught it? I didn't care for

it though really yeah, I just I Didn't I mean

I I liked Michael J Fox's part, but I didn't

care for the rest of the show All right heading

which is a Thursday at 8 7 Central the Millers

In his third show On a third network in four

years, Will Arnett plays Nathan Miller, a news

reporter who makes the mistake of telling his

parents that he just got divorced. Anybody gonna

watch this? Nope. All right. Mom on CBS, premiered

Monday, September 23rd at 9 -8 Central. Chuck

Lorre's fourth CBS sitcom stars Anna Faris as

Christy, a recovering alcoholic and single mom

who moves to Napa Valley, California for a fresh

start. Anybody watch this one? Nope. I've seen

the five -minute preview. I didn't care for what

I saw. I haven't seen it either. I've seen like

little previews on CBS itself, but... Alright,

so Steve, are you jumping down the rabbit hole?

Because Thursday, October 10th, Once Upon a Time

in Wonderland premieres at 8 -7 Central. Nope,

I don't care about spinoffs. I think that they're

blasphemous. I don't like spinoff shows at all.

Alright, Mike, any thoughts on Wonderland? I'll

be watching Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. The

problem is, I don't see, at least here on this

short... Description I don't see the guy who

I'd actually be watching it for which is the

Met Hatter I really like his character on Once

Upon a Time And I like the actor that played

him So I was kind of hoping he would come back

over here for this one and maybe he does Is this

actually a full like show or is it just a mini

-series? So far they've done I think it looks

like three episodes It's as far as I know it's

supposed to be a spinoff series like it's just

supposed to be another So it's gonna get more

seasons? I'm guessing. I was hoping it would

be like 15 episodes and then dump the rest of

the characters. It looks like they've done five

episodes so far. They have John Lithgow as the

White Rabbit and then it looks like apparently

Pee Wee Herman ends up as the White Rabbit. I

don't know. I only see like, you know, the native

hearts alice iris jafar from aladdin uh... uh...

the red queen white rabbit i mean i don't see

anything about the mad hatter which i mean i

i like that i like once upon a time so i'll give

this i'll give this a shot and probably like

like once upon a time uh... wonderland off probably

like save up with five or ten episodes in the

power through them because i can't stand what

we want to meet it's not so much the waiting

it's i just can't watch that one episode at a

time i i find it to be very boring and very slow

to watch it one episode at a time where if i

can watch like five or ten episodes in in one

sitting then i actually feel like i'm then i

actually feel like i'm getting the show's potential

uh rather than watching it week to week and it's

not like i'm celebrating oh man when's the next

one i gotta watch it no it's if i watch one episode

It kind of gets lost among all the other really

good stuff that I'm watching because the potential

for those shows buried so deep. You actually

have to have like a solid run at them before

you can find the greatness in them. Yes, that's

true. I've been meaning to get into the original

series once upon a time. It's on my Netflix queue.

I just haven't had time to get into it. It can

be bumpy. It can. I don't think it delivers on

anything until season two. Pretty much. Moving

on over to the CW, the originals, which is a

vampire diaries spin -off. I'm looking forward

to this. Really? Yes. Explain. I like vampire

diaries. Okay, yep stuff we didn't know about

Mike powers lindsen actually if you follow if

you pay attention my tweets on Twitter actually

I Tweet about when I watch the Empire Diaries.

No, it's I actually some sometimes I think that

the way it treats the vampires is better than

true blood Because true blood goes for I feel

like true blood goes for this Sensationalization

of them. I don't know if that's a real word Wow,

but I you know, and they you know, they go for

the nudity and the violence and The vampire drivers

doesn't do that I also think that at first glance

like especially like early on in the first season

I can see how it could be easily compared to

like a Twilight knockoff The only problem is

it is a better like I haven't read the books

I've only my my wife has told me about them because

she has and she's not a big fan of the movies

She said that Vampire Diaries is a better live

action version of Twilight than the movies were.

I think that's because the characters in Vampire

Diaries are much more interesting. But the originals

is based off of... Well, they're the original,

as the name implies, they're the original vampires.

And they actually showed up and they've been

a part of the last two seasons of... Vampire

Diaries and they can't you know, they can't be

killed they are They and if you kill them then

their entire line of vampires gets destroyed

And it's so it's like they're untouchable you

can't you can't kill them because then you could

end up killing yourself But I like the lore that

they built up and I'm kind of excited to see

this because the character that it's based around

Is one of the characters that I really liked

in Vampire Diaries. He was really cool So I'm

I'm looking forward to this. And yeah, I I'm

not really afraid to say that I actually enjoy

vampire diaries because they do a lot of cool

things like their Christmas episode had the main

character who moved over to the originals. He

went around and was committing mass genocide

to remixed versions of Christmas songs. Like

it was a montage of him like killing lots of

people. And there was like, Oh, Holy Night was

playing in the background. It was great. It was

great. So. All right. Sticking with CW premiering

Thursday, October 17th at 98 Central, we have

rain. And that's not the weather that is like

the royalty. This is a historical drama taking

some poetic license. I will not watch this. Are

they talking about the Nostradamus? Because this

seems like it would be interesting to at least

check out for me anyways. Yes, they're talking

about the seer Nostradamus. Yes. I don't know.

CW, like Steve has said, it's hit or miss. I

mean, it really is like Arrow is like Arrow for

me is what Supernatural is for Steve. Like Arrow

is the only show that I watch on CW right now

and probably will only be the only show I watch

on CW. Anybody? Steve, are you going to check

out Rain It All? No, I'm not checking this out

or the originals. I probably will just because

it's there. Over on NBC coming Thursday, October

3rd at 9 8 central Sean Long say oh, I'm sorry

Sean saves the world. Yes, that's right He's

not just Jack anymore Sean Hayes returns to TV

as a career -oriented divorced gay dad who is

determined to become the world's best father

after his 14 year old daughter Ellie moves in

with him So basically, it's a combination of

Will and Grace without Will and Grace and my

two dads from the 80s Well, I thought that was

gonna be what partners was last year on CBS Yeah,

I really I never watched that. I wanted to so

bad. I wanted to watch partners so bad I never

never did Brandon relic got the best lines Okay,

now I definitely don't know he was actually he

was actually funny It was and I honestly think

he got the best lines But only lasted for six

episodes. I mean technically yeah, it was on

like two hours Yeah, that's true. Anybody gonna

watch Sean Saves the World? Nope. Now that I

know that it's the guy from Will and Grace, the

wife will want to watch it, so I'll have it in

the house. Yes. So you'll watch it? Yeah. Premiering

Monday, September 16th at 9 -8 Central, we had

over on Fox, Sleepy Hollow. Oh, this is so much

better than that lame -ass Johnny Depp movie,

thank God! The best thing about the pilot was

the fact that Clancy Brown was the sheriff in

the pilot of this. Freakin' Lex Luthor slash,

uh, Gard Hadley from the Shawshank Redemption.

This is a series that... I don't know, it...

It always intrigues me, like, Once Upon a Time

is a series that has two different worlds that

intertwine with each other. This has basically

two different centuries that kind of intertwine

and it's kind of... Steve, I know you've seen

a lot of Transformers Prime. Did you see the

episode where they had the Shadow Zone? Shadow

Zone, Shadow Zone. Okay, anyway. there was a

point where in transformers prime where they

found the humans found a shadow zone because

they got trapped yes and they then at the uh

television series finale they trapped soundwave

in it spoilers for anybody who hasn't seen deadlock

um this is kind of like that where there is a

dream world a regular and in the real world it

it changes from flashbacks to like the time of

of george washington and the current day in sleepy

hollow and it's it's really really interesting

in the effects oh my god the way the headless

horseman looks he's never looked this damn good

never looked this damn good uh you guys check

this out at all i did um i i mean i liked it

uh clearly not as much as you did I did nothing

really stood out about it to me. I I Like the

story I like the idea one of the things I noticed

is the the you know, the four horseman of the

apocalypse thing which I'm excited to see what

Fox does with something like that because supernatural

tried something like that For a season or two.

I can't really remember But I'm interested to

see what they do with their with their lore for

it I mean, I liked it. I'll keep watching it

because it's you know, by the guys that run us

fringe So why wouldn't I watch it? I like really

enjoyed fringe But I there wasn't like visually

there wasn't anything that like I mean How hard

is it to do? Like I mean, it's very easy to do

a practical effect with a guy on a horse thought

ahead I mean I wasn't they didn't really do Did

you see the second episode? I haven't watched

the second episode yet Second episode they do

stuff with Headless people that Freaked me out.

Well, I mean I I have it I just haven't watched

it yet. So I'll check it out tomorrow and you

know, yeah Steve are you gonna check this one

it out. I might eventually it does actually sound

pretty good and especially bringing it to modern

fun night I've seen a lot of the annoying commercials

and it's got that one chick in it. That's plays

an annoying character and everything she's in

and it looks super annoying too, so Yeah, it's

it doesn't look enticing at all. It's created

partially by Conan O 'Brien and somebody I've

never heard of and Yeah, it's It's like a Friday

fun night tradition which they stay at home in

their pajamas and then it's all kinds of stupid

crazy shit So doesn't even look entertaining

It just looks dumb. I love the joke that tvguide

.com throws in here. The show actually refers

to Friday night, not Wednesday. Missed the marketing

opportunity. Oh, yeah. And then the one chick

that's in it, she plays one. Oh, it's created

by her. That's why I've never heard of it. She's

one of the actresses in it and it says she's

doing an American accent. She's British. All

right moving back over to the CW premiering Wednesday,

October 9th is the tomorrow people Anybody gonna

check this one out I will I will check this out

primarily because I think that is I talked about

we talked about this on alter geek or not dang

it um is that I find that when There is a superhero

property on TV, and it's not based off of a comic

book property They tend to be a little better

than those that are because they're not as beholden

to lore or continuity or anything like that.

And so, and I think that they've learned, CW's

learned a lot from their run on Smallville and

their recent run on Arrow and the ramping up

for the Flash. I feel like they have an idea,

they have a way. Pretty good way of showing people

what they want to see without having to go crazy

with the budget and the special effects Plus

tomorrow people reminds me of the summit movie

push With Chris Evans And I I really liked push

I'm I'm kind of bummed that they're not they

probably won't ever be able to make a sequel

now because Chris Evans is a thing But yeah,

it kind of reminds me that and I also really

enjoyed alphas and sci -fi which is another Another

superhero show that was unfortunately cancelled

after the second season such a tease but it Both

of them do a really good job. Just they get they

give you what you want out of a superhero show

without an exorbitant budget it's kind of like

you get talented people that can show you what

you want to see without having to Actually show

you what you want to see that makes any sense

anybody Yeah, so I mean and like I said, it looks

like push like a live -action push So and it's

you know got the creators behind, you know vampire

diaries and some arrow people in there Yeah,

not just some arrow people it Wednesday night

will be the Amel night on the CW Robbie Amel

cousin of arrows Steven Amel is starring in this

Steve are you gonna check this one out? The tomorrow

people yes I'll probably download a few episodes

of it after the fact. Just to kind of power watch

through it, especially with all these other shows

that are returning. I would rather watch a couple

of episodes in a row, but I like the concept

behind it. I like the kind of superheroish type

stuff going on. And I do have to agree that a

lot of those kind of unique special ability type

shows that aren't based off comics, you usually

tend to actually be more cohesive because they

can kind of create it from scratch and people

don't really know what to expect from it, whereas

if it's something that's kind of had a comic

presence or based off something, then it tends

to get compared. Like I said, arrows it for me

on CW. I just don't have any interest in any

of the shows that they're doing right now. Up

next, which premiered Tuesday, September 24th

at 9 -8 Central, is Trophy Wife on ABC. Now,

when I first saw this, I first saw it on GetGlue

.com, and I made the joke of, oh hey, ABC's fictionalizing

Wife Swap. And somebody said, Wife Swap is real?

This is just another one of those network attempts

at a comedy show and a really, really bad attempt

with this. I don't know. I watched bits and pieces

of it, but it's not something I could watch more

than one episode of. After reading the description,

Malin Ackerman and Bradley Whitford? Done. I'll

check it out. okay there you go I like Bradley

Whitford I like Bradley Whitford and Malin Ackerman

is fun to look at so Steve are you going to look

into the trophy wife well she's fun to look at

she isn't that fun to look at so I won't be checking

the neighbors also shark tank. I Checked out

the last man standing season 3 premiere. I checked

out of that show in season 2 I did not like the

actress replacement that they got for the oldest

daughter And after three seasons just watching

the season 3 premiere episode I think that shows

losing steam to me. I don't know. I saw it I

mean they moved it to friday, so maybe they feel

the same but I I like it to friday last year,

too It was it was on friday. Yeah. Well good.

I I mean I enjoy it I mean I I had the same issues

you did because it was just so jarring It was

like too complete less like they didn't even

try to get someone close to the way that she

was Yeah, um And so I was kind of like, oh man

for the first couple episodes, but I stuck with

it I mean, I find some of the stuff, uh, genuinely

funny. Um, and I have a feeling it's gonna end

up being being incredibly dated, some of the

jokes that they use in it, while funny now, I

don't know how they're going to hold up. The

Neighbors, I'm sorry. No, go ahead. I was going

to say The Neighbors to me is like a Men in Black

TV show without The Men in Black. The only time

I ever saw an episode of that was I think the

season finale last year because George Takei

was going to be on there. That's the only reason

why I watch that show I really I like it. I like

the humor I think it's really I think it's really

funny. That's that's fine. What were you gonna

say about last man standing Steve? I was gonna

say that um, I While I really enjoy the show

and yeah, I do have to agree with the replacement

for the one daughter It just kind of out there.

Um, I Like the show I'm not sure how well it's

gonna I mean besides hold up I mean even home

improvements kind of dated pretty bad. So, I

mean, while I enjoy it, while it's new, I'm not

sure how long the show is going to survive. I

don't think that ABC is going to kill it off

only because it's Tim Allen. Yeah. And they've

got money up the wazoo. So I really like that.

I've watched Shark Tank throughout the years.

I really kind of like that every now and then.

It depends. If there's nothing else on on Fridays,

I will turn that on. I will say that last year,

I think the season finale had an added clip of

Phineas and Ferb's Dr. Doofenshmirtz, and I thought

that was hilarious. Eh. Yeah, yeah. Only you

We have castle is anybody I keep hearing great

things about this show and I've been wanting

to check it out But I just never have and I know

everyone loves Nathan Fillion, but is anyone

watching this beside you? Yep, it's one of my

It's one of my favorites every you know, I get

it You know, I watch them at work and the way

I try to watch my TV shows is order of least

favorite to most favorite so that The next show

that I watch erases the bad taste of the last

one. And Castle is usually one of the last five

episodes that I will watch at the end of a shift.

Because it's actually good. I mean, yeah, it's

a procedural, and yeah, it's a whole lot of the

will, they won't, they kind of stuff early on,

but it's funny. Nathan Fillion delivers. I think

the supporting detectives are really funny. It's

not a comedy. I don't want to say it's like a

dramedy either. It just feels kind of good, I

guess. When it gets dark, it gets really dark,

but it never gets really over the top. Like happy

a lot of the times it's kind of stays in the

middle ground where it's just like a good show

So it's if you just want something that's like

stable like kind of like a reassuring show that

like life is good Like I think castles kind of

like one of those shows I've caught well see

now now that it's in its order fifth season sixth

season. Yes Whatever, it's it's gotten over 65

episodes. So it is now in syndication on TNT

and I've caught Bits and pieces of different

episodes and I like the interaction of the two

main characters But it's a show that I'm gonna

have to come back to in a couple of years once

whenever it does end The the neat thing about

this and what makes it kind of easy for me is

there's Books like his the books that he writes

in the seasons are actually published like oh,

that's cool And they come out in September, which

is when my wife's birthday is so she actually

has all of the books Sweet now what? What's also

interesting is you know he's got the books that

he you know castles a writer That's tagging along

with police officers so we can do research for

a book, but really he's just tagging along because

he likes her Yeah, but so he started an entirely

new series of books based off of her and that's

what they actually publish But going into the

series he's known for a guy that used to write

like kind of like your James Bond spy thriller

It's like a it's called Derek Storm those books

are slowly being made into graphic novels by

marvel uh... sweet uh... then brian michael bendis

writes those uh... writes the derrick storm graphic

novel side everyone's you know they publish one

of those here too so i started by her though

by those four as well it's just it's just really

neat cuz you know it's like i like it it's another

way to kind of add to the show since it's and

you can see what he's writing it makes it more

it i guess i don't on some level makes it feel

like the characters might actually be kind of

real because the books say they're written by

richard castle also on and in the back was is

about the author it's about castle In fact there

I don't even think they tell you I mean, I'm

sure you can find out who but as far as in the

book It doesn't tell you who is actually writing

the books, right? Yeah Steve have you watched

castle at all? I've caught a couple episodes

here there and I I like what I've seen of it.

I mean, it's not it's not bad at all. I mean,

I just I have so many I have so little time and

so many shows I like I just It's it's not been

on my list to watch but I do enjoy what I have

seen of it I I like the dynamic and how the story

kind of plays out On Wednesdays we have the middle

Modern Family and Nashville returning. I Do not

watch the middle or Modern Family. I know Modern

Family stars Al Bundy and I know it's probably

hilarious, but I just Again, it's one of those

shows where I just need to wait until the hype

is done with it. I think personally, I think

the hype may be past Modern Family. I mean, I

know a lot of people still say not that they've

got this USA deal now that they're in syndication.

It's not OK, but that's different. I mean, yeah,

sure. Another network is going to be hyping that

they got like one of the biggest shows on television.

But I'm saying like in general. Think I mean,

yeah, they're still winning awards and stuff

like that But I don't think modern family is

what it was like two seasons ago Like it's still

good. Like the show is still good, but I don't

think it's I don't think the hype is there like

it was two seasons ago I still really enjoy it

And I also watch the middle. I really enjoyed

the middle as well because it just reminds me

of like my childhood Like I mean I didn't grow

up exactly the way it's depicted in the show,

but I'm from the rural suburban area, the neighborhood,

the schools, all that stuff. So it's just funny

to see that stuff. Do they use the Jimmy Eat

World song as the theme to that show? In the

middle? Yes. No, the middle doesn't actually

have a theme song. Oh, OK. Anybody watching Nashville?

Nope. So the I saw the preview for the new season

and apparently some pop princess is gonna try

to take over Well, I should because I like the

lady that plays the mom, but I can't stand Hayden

Penatieri On Thursday for returning we have Grey's

Anatomy. I've never watched this show. I Just

have no it's not that I don't don't like it.

I just have no interest This is you this is firmly

at the top of my train rank list I am watching

it now only because I have to see how they top

themselves from episode to episode. For Sundays,

ABC has a huge lineup. First up is Once Upon

a Time. Steve, have you seen the season premiere

yet? No, we're gonna actually watch that tomorrow.

Huh, Mike? Nope, same here, gonna watch it tomorrow.

Revenge also premiered as well and season three

is man. That show is so good That show is easily

like very well filled that nine to ten spot on

Sunday nights Just like alias used to just like

Desperate Housewives used to and that's great.

I think they lost me in season two I mean, I'm

going to watch season three, but revenge is another

one of those shows like once upon a time where

Week to week I can't Can't do it. I have to get

five to ten episodes built up and then I have

to sit down and it has to get I have to watch

those shows because one there's a lot happening

in them and to to it's just I Need it to be that

because it'll get buried like I said earlier

about once upon a time. So yeah Yeah for me it

it is one of those oh my god bring on the next

week already It is one of those shows for me

All right, so on Thursday's also returning is

Scandal for ABC. Is anybody watching this? I

don't watch anything that's on the current lineup

of ABC other than Once Upon a Time and Last Man

Standing and Shark Tank out of the current stuff

America's Funniest Home Videos on Sundays. I

mean, that's just a staple. It's been a staple

since the 80s. It never dies. Well, thankfully,

Tom Bergeron is hosting now. I love that guy.

He's so awesome. Moving on over to NBC on Monday

nights, we have The Voice for Season 5 so far.

I know they're going to do Season 6 sometime

in the spring of 2014, but I'm so glad Christina's

back. So couldn't wait till Shakira left. On

Tuesday's returning is Chicago Fire. I checked

out the pilot to this last year and I thought

it was pretty interesting, specifically since

it was a Dick Wolf show that wasn't a police

show. But I have yet to actually watch the rest

of the first season, so I'll have to go back

and watch that. On Wednesdays for NBC we have

Revolution. Steve are you still watching revolution

or no? Yep, we actually caught the new season

premiere So throws a whole new twist into things

Mike yeah, no, I I thought that it's the season

2 just the opening of season 2 was a lot better

than Most of season 1 did you get that almost

supernatural vibe from it? I saw it Like, there

was, what stood out to me was the level of grit

that was present. The grit, the classic rock

music sprinkled throughout it. Yeah. For me,

seeing... The first season of the first episode

of season two revolution and and remnant and

thinking back about season one I can understand

why season one was the way that it was and I

understand why season two is the way that it

is now I mean season one takes place 15 years

after the blackout when society is kind of stabilized

somewhat back to you know It's livable and then

in season two is you open up and everything is

in chaos again I feel like season two is going

to be more like what I wanted season one to be

and I feel like that's what they've given us

already as far as the characters are concerned.

Charlie still grates on me a little bit but it

seems like somebody over there on the writing

team is a big fan of the remake of Lara Croft

from Tomb Raider because she looks exactly like

her and if they make her anywhere near as hardcore

as Lara was in the Tomb Raider that came out

last fall, then awesome. But it's still kind

of a train wreck show to me. I gotta see what

happens. I know neither one of you watch this

because you just don't. But for me, 9 to 10 p

.m. on Wednesday's Law & Order Special Victims

Unit returned for its 15th season and I gotta

say, I know... Law and Order as a franchise 20

years, you know 15 years for this series It can

get tiring after a while for the same. Oh this

girl got raped. Oh, this is a rape murder Oh

this well season 13 14 and 15 They've really

tried to amp it up and change it up in the season

14 finale where Benson gets kidnapped and the

15 premiere where she goes like Darker than I've

ever seen that character go. It was so awesome

It really was I'm I'm after watching that at

least that first hour that because there was

a two -hour premiere But the first hour was solely

to kind of wrap up her Her story from the end

of last year. I'm so waiting for stapler to come

back this year I'm so waiting for Chris Maloney

to have a guest spot at some point in Season

15. I don't know if it's going to happen, but

I hope that it does. On Thursdays, we have Parks

and Rec returning. Everyone said, oh, try this.

Same thing with... I don't even think... Community

got cancelled, didn't it? Or did it get moved

to TBS or some stupid crap? I don't know if it

got cancelled. I don't know, I don't remember,

right? I just know that I think Michael Dotted

said, oh, check out Community, you'd like it,

check out Parks and Rec, somebody recommended

Parks and Rec to me, and I just, I've never watched

it. Is anybody watching this one? Nope. Nope.

All right. 10 to 11 Parenthood returns for...

Parenthood's been on for five years already?

Holy crap. I keep meaning to get into this show

because I've had it recommended to me by somebody

that has the same amount of love for Friday Night

Lights that I do. And I see what they're talking

about in the first few episodes that I've seen.

There's always something else for me to go watch.

I wasn't able to get sucked into it as much as

I am for everything else. Also on Friday's Dateline

returns, it's not shocking that Dateline and

2020 and all those kind of crime documentary

shows show up. Moving over to CBS. Survivor's

27th season. Give me a big brother any day. Nobody

cares. Yeah, I know. I know. Premiering back

on September 22nd, we had the 65th Primetime

Emmys. Nobody cares. Mondays for CBS. How I Met

Your Mother and Two Broke Girls are the returning

shows. I've never gotten into either one of those

shows. Nope All right, so for Tuesday's it's

three returning shows since that's the domination

night for NCIS the prime NCIS season 11 premiere

NCIS Los Angeles season 5 premiere and Person

of Interest season 3 premiere. I know Person

of Interest is a huge Fan favorite of our cohort

optimus solo, so I know he's probably looking

forward to that NCIS I like the main show. I

even like the cast and crew of the Los Angeles

version of it. I just haven't been keeping up

with it. I just really haven't. I am looking

forward to Person of Interest. Are you really?

I really like that show. I think it doesn't help

her being written slash created by Jonathan Nolan.

That's one of the reasons why I was... Me you

know drawn to it plus. I like the the cast I

was more drawn to it for Michael Emerson. I think

that's the guy's name Yeah, I was more drawn

to him because I liked his character on lost

So I was like I'll watch it for him, and I don't

have a problem with the other guy Love of me

like me his name is Jim Caviezel yes Passion

of the Christ fame and frequency and he was he

was actually going to be Superman at one point

I And I like the concept behind it. I think it's

I think it's interesting You know going especially

going along now with everyone's paranoid with

you're being watched you're being watched See,

that's what happened to me when the blacklist

premiered. I thought that NBC was premiering

the blacklist to Specifically go into competition

with per the person of interest, but they're

not on the same night and they're not even the

same show I know they're not even the same show,

but it just, I don't know. I understand the premise

of Person of Interest, and the premises are two

very different things, but I just, when I saw

the Blacklist pilot premiere, I was like, hmm,

interesting. Person of Interest, actually, if

you kind of distill it down, and it's kind of

funny that it's created by Jonathan Nolan, if

you distill it down, it's actually more of a

real -world Batman. Hmm. Because Michael Emerson

basically plays the Alfred to the guy's Batman

He's almost like the oracle. Yes in a sense Yeah,

pretty much and he's got like he's got his police

the guys in the police force actually help him

out and you know There are people that are like

looking for him and he's like the vigilante He

just doesn't dress up fully dresses in a suit,

but he doesn't dress up in a suit But it's it's

it's it's fun. There's lots of twists and turns

and you get to see One of my favorite things

is how the machine evolves from season to season

and actually episode to episode. Because a lot

of the game, I said game because it's a lot like

Watch Dogs which comes out this fall. The point

of view that you see a lot of the times is from

security cameras. and you get to see the overlay

that the machine puts on the security camera

and you can see how it's identifying targets

and tracking people and those the information

present in those camera shots gets more advanced

from episode to episode. The way you're describing

it just now makes me think of Enemy of the State

with Will Smith and Gene Ackman. Yes. Alright,

on Wednesday's returning we have Criminal Minds

for its ninth season premiere. I know Optimus

Solo will enjoy that one. Also, CSI Prime, CSI

Vegas, whatever you want to call it, is having

its 14th season premiere. Once Grissom left that

show, I lost all interest. Once William Peterson

left that show, I kinda just faded away. Anybody

watch any of the two of these? Alright. Thursdays

is CBS's Comedy Night. From 8 to 8 .30 we have

The Big Bang Theory Season 7 premiered. I still

love this show and what I love about this show

is that yes in the beginning it did kind of poke

fun and make fun of geek culture but as the seasons

have progressed they focused more on developing

the character relationships between each other

than they have. Consistently trying to be current

and making fun of geeks They still do from here

and there I like in the season 7 period that

they kind of make fun of the superior spider

-man and Raj comes to defend it No, I like that.

It's it. It's kind of good I know Steve you watch

this or you did you used to I still watch Big

Bang Theory I caught both episodes that came

out on premiere nights. I really enjoyed it Really

really funny I had a I got a shout out to the

twig crew and Mike Dodd and all those people

over there and I think one of their one of their

listeners Luke I forget what his last name is

Back when I was full -time running this week

in geek net for the podcasting and stuff a couple

years ago everybody used to call me Aquaman and

I just I just rolled my eyes and had a hearty

laugh at that season seven premiere because Stuart,

the owner of the comic book shop, tricked Sheldon

into buying an Aquaman statue for $1200. For

$1200. And a $200 Batman squirt gun. Sheldon,

you are so gullible. Also, we have Two and a

Half Men season 11 premiere. I watched that,

actually. Did you his name good actually it was

really funny only because they introduced a new

character in amber Tamblyn as Charlie Harper's

daughter daughter. Yeah, and She kind of stumbles

Go ahead. I was gonna say she kind of stumbles

into the family, you know trying to find him

or whatever and they're like, oh he's dead, you

know, and then Alan manages to drop the Urn twice

and have to vacuum his brother up again They

brought that cuz he's like well, here's your

father and then he you know trips and drops him

twice and bird is like I'm not cleaning that

up and Then her she's like I'm still not cleaning

that up because he did it before last season

and then Ashton Kutcher's character is just sitting

on the couch and then the grandma Charlie's mom

is She comes over to find out about her, you

know and everything and she's like, oh the grandchild

I didn't know I had or deal or finally I have

a grandchild and then Alan's like, oh What about

Jake and she says yeah and then just kind of

blows him off and then she starts talking about

Charlie like oh the apple of my eye and Alan's

like what the hell am I? You know, and so she's

like throwing him under the bus the whole episode

and then Essentially they they go to the bar

that Charlie not, you know, sorry for spoilers

for anybody that's Not watch this, but I mean,

it's still it's two and a half men. You can kind

of get where it's gonna go Even though it's kind

of outlived the title of the show They have them

go to the bar that Charlie normally went to and

She's like, so let's see where I was conceived

at and so they walk her to the bathroom or whatever

and She comes out she's like memories or whatever

and then she sits down they all order a drink

and get kind of hammered and then she says too

bad we don't have somebody to drive us home and

then like this waitress comes up and is like

well I can drive you guys blah blah blah my shift

ends in such and such a time and Ashton Kutcher's

characters like oh, that's you know great or

whatever and They get back to the house, you

know the Malibu Beach house and They she points

her in the room of the the upstairs or whatever

and Walden's like oh You know, I have a date

blah blah blah and so they start heading he starts

heading up and she's like no she's mine Or whatever

and then goes upstairs and the grandma's like

coach. She's like Charlie's home Yeah, it was

actually funny for once like it because it's

sad that they have to result in reviving the

almost chair or the Charlie Sheen persona, but

That's pretty much something after that after

that idiot kids started spouting off at the mouth

about how the show has become so blasphemous

Well to be fair actors have learned to insert

foot and mouth over the last five years and it's

really bit them in the ass so yeah yeah um god

but yeah that's that's the gist of that episode

it was actually good uh are you watching this

mike or no no elementary oh elementary yes I

was actually referring to two and a half men.

Moving on to the final Thursday show for CBS's

Elementary, which had its season two premiere.

I don't know. I like Lucy Lou, but I just, I'm

so, and it's not even that it's like in the public

eye so much, but just over the years, there have

been so many different Sherlock things. I'm just

so over it at this point. Well, okay. There's

been. Obviously over the years. Yes, there's

been a lot but in the last I don't know like

what was it 2008 was the movies. Yeah was the

start of the movies. I mean, there's been Robert

Downey Jr. There's been Benedict Cumberbatch

and now there's Johnny Lee Miller I First of

all, I like the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes

and I like the Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock

Holmes both completely different Sherlock on

BBC is amazing. Highly suggest anyone that hasn't

seen that, that they check it out. Right now

it's only six episodes long. It's been on for

two series. The third series is going to air

like in January, I think. A season is only three

episodes because they're 90 minutes long. And

it's just superior programming. But I was originally

Elementary was CBS's comeback to the BBC series

because they're both set in modern -day The twist

the elementary was going to do is oh we're gonna

set it in New York and we're gonna make him someone

that's in rehab and he goes to a meetings and

We're instead of having John Watson. We're gonna

have Joan Watson It was just how it was in it,

you know kind of a different like Sherlock is

an updated look at the classic Sherlock Holmes.

And this is more of this like a brand new spin

on Sherlock. I was originally very turned off

by the idea of this, but I watched the first

episode and I watched the second and slowly they

started introducing things and I was kind of

mad that, you know, it's a 22 episode series.

But no, it actually turned out to be pretty good.

It's a nice filler in between waiting for the

better show to come back on. I don't think that

I don't think any of the actors are bad in it.

I actually like Johnny even Miller as Sherlock

Holmes. I just don't like Some I don't like that.

They made him a recovering drug addict. I think

that's annoying Yeah, the only thing I think

I've ever seen him in was 1995s hackers I think

he was also in Trainspotting you ever seen that?

No, okay um over on fridays which i cannot believe

this happened but i'll get to that in a minute

uh the 8 to 9 p .m slot has undercover boss for

its fifth season premiere and one of kevin's

optimus solo's favorite favorite shows got relegated

to fridays i cannot believe this 9 to 10 p .m

y50 for season four um i like that show too Mean

it's a good show. It's it's funny. I've seen

different episodes of it I like what CBS did

with it crossing over with NCIS LA. I thought

that was kind of cool But I haven't watched it

all the way through I'm wondering why you got

moved to Friday cuz I thought it was doing pretty

well Monday I got moved to Friday probably because

they have four comedies on on Mondays now and

the 10 to 11 spot has hostages at this point,

so You watch it you're not watching Hawaii 50

are you Steve no I mean, I like the comedy. It's

another, it's another con show because James

Conn's son Scott is on it as Dano. And I like

him as an actor, but like I said, I'm not following

it. Also the 10 to 11 spot on Fridays has Blue

Bloods, which stars Magnum P .I. Yes, that's

right. Tom Selleck in the season four premiere.

Are you watching Blue Bloods, Mike? Nope. Yeah,

I haven't been. And, of course, also 48 Hours,

another one of those crime shows on... Well,

that's on Saturday, actually. For Sunday, for

CBS, we have 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The

Good Wife, and The Mentalist. I can't believe...

I thought The Mentalist got cancelled. I can't

believe that's still on. Six seasons already.

And it just seems like it was the third season

just yesterday for The Good Wife. Are you watching

any of those nine to ten or ten to eleven shows

Mike? Nope You're about to go you're about to

go around though, but it's the CBS stuff is almost

done anyways. Oh, yeah CBS has several midseason

stuff Going into Fox Is anybody watching The

X Factor? I won't watch it simply because it's

Simon friggin Cowell and I couldn't stand him

on American Idol and I just don't like the guy.

Don't watch it because it's reality television.

Bones, anybody watching Bones? Nope. Nope. I

like David Boreanaz as an actor. I just I've

never gotten into Bones. Now I know our other

cohort movie role Dan watches New Girl on Tuesdays.

You guys watching New Girl? I am. I enjoy it

very much. How about the Mindy project? I enjoy

that too. It surprised me last year, so I'm kind

of glad I got to stick around. I am so not a

Gleek. I really hate network reality TV sometimes

when it's not the voice, because Fridays from

8 to 9 we have MasterChef Jr. Is this really

something that we need on television seriously?

No, but it's something we deserve. Ha. You're

funny, Jim Gordon. Ha. There was no thing. I

had to take it. yes yes uh sunday is animation

domination we have the simpsons season 25 premiere

i caught bits and pieces of it um i wanted to

watch it all but my dvr screwed up and recorded

nothing but a black screen um i don't know if

it was the dvr or if it was fox having issues

but um when i did catch it i thought it was okay

for a season premiere i mean The Simpsons at

this point, and I've said this many times on

many other shows, I want them to have season

25 be the final season and just have them end

it with the kids growing. These kids are still

eight and 11 and however the hell old Maggie

is. They have not aged in almost 30 friggin years.

How many cartoon shows do you know where the

characters age at all? I understand that, but

I'm saying animated series okay yeah but I understand

that but I just wish that like if they if there's

gonna be an end of this series somewhere that

the series finale be the kids growing up and

actually doing something with their lives even

if Bart turns into a criminal interesting thing

about the Simpsons I've only ever seen a handful

of episodes Do not watch it. I can't stand it.

I loved it as a kid I loved it all throughout

the 90s and then after a while I just this is

this was one of the shows that my parents were

like you cannot watch this show because they

didn't like the The language and the violence

they didn't yeah, they didn't they didn't care

for any of that stuff It was like you cannot

watch it and me being a good kid I did not watch

it and when I was finally, you know Obviously

being a teenager and stuff and actually watching

my own shows and all that I never even I never

got into it. In fact when it was on I would always

just change the channel. I don't want to watch

it Maybe I'm just conditioned to not watch the

Simpsons But anytime I've actually tried to watch

an episode of it. I don't care for now that said

I love future Rama But I don't The Simpsons is

just not, because I didn't grow up with it, it

has no hooks in me whatsoever. As a 9, 10 year

old, 89, 90 going into 91, 11 year old, I so

idolized Bart Simpson and I so gave the finger

to my stepmother every time the show came on

because I'm one of those people that I can distinguish

between what's on television and what's real

life. The best example I can say is I play Grand

Theft Auto all the time. At the same time, I

have no compunction of going out and getting

a gun and actually shooting somebody. That's

friggin' stupid. Everyone should know the difference

between reality and fantasy. And I agree with

you there. I just think that even though that's

what you think, I still think there's a certain

amount of parental control where it's... Even

though you think... I'm glad that my parents

were like that with me because there are a lot

of parents out there that are just like, not

my kid. not my kid at least my parents were like

you know we don't want him watching this i mean

there's like there's a scene in robo cop 2 even

to this day i have never seen um because my parents

used to do the thing where it's like we're gonna

watch we'll watch this movie and then you can

watch it with us and we'll tell you what part

not to look at Even to this day. I still have

not seen that. I know what scene it is I know

what happens because I've heard it so many times,

but I've never actually seen it and it's my parents

did that to me and I've often talked to my mom

because I want I off I was actually my parents

actually bought me Mortal Kombat 2 on my Super

Nintendo and I was like what you know, did you

know what that I asked my mom everyone so I said

Do you know what that was when you bought that

for me? She goes no, but I mean we just assumed

you would do the right thing, but that's also

because my parents knew that I, just from me

following the rules that they laid down, that

I was, you know, and I had a firm, like you said,

I have a firm grasp on reality of what's right

and wrong and stuff like that, but that's because

my parents didn't put me down in front of programming

where, you know, showing the child being rude

to their parents and stuff like that. I mean,

it wasn't even like... an option for you to see

that stuff. I'm fine with that. I think that

may or may not be a better person. I understand

how people seeing that stuff, they can still

grow up and be good people. I'm not saying that

at all. I'd rather have some parents actually

be kind of strict with their parents and decide

that even though they may think their kid is

capable of handling something, maybe they just

shouldn't be watching something. Was an only

child my mom let me do whatever I want for the

most part So I mean she still had rules and I

still had to follow them But when it came to

television I could pretty much watch anything

Steve did you check out the season 25 premiere

of Simpsons? Yep. No, I kind of signed off from

that years ago. It's not relevant a lot of those

Fox cartoon animation block. I just did Simpsons

would be the only one I would watch out of that

block I like Bob's Burgers a lot. I find it funny.

So is anybody watching Family Guy or American

Dad? No, the only time I watch those shows is

on the network that kept them alive and that's

Adult Swim. Alright and also Fox has on Friday

what? Wait a minute bones is on Mondays, isn't

it? It might premiere that's the premiere and

then it's okay, and it's actually moving to Fridays.

Oh Wow, okay. Well bones is on Fridays Raising

hope The end of the first the first season was

amazing. It's only gotten better since then Like

the cast I like the there's a has a very strong

tie to my name is Earl It's the same it's the

same creator from the show and he brings back

a lot of the same actors There's a lot of like

in jokes to my name is Earl and and stuff like

that. So it's a fun show Moving over to the CW

on Mondays we have heart of Dixie for the season

three premier and beauty and the beast for season

two premier uh... mike you watching these at

all you're gonna be surprised i'm not watching

these two shows uh... wednesday uh... we have

arrow uh... from eight to nine and i know i'm

watching that i'm really looking forward to season

two i can't wait uh... i'm looking forward to

season two but i want them to hurry up and get

to the flash stuff Know that's like in the second

half of this half of the season, but I want them

to get there in a hurry I'm just waiting for

Jim Gordon to enter Gotham Steve I know you're

you used to watch arrow or you liked watching

it. I'm kind of done with it Wow, I alright.

I didn't find it too interesting the more it

went on Thursdays we have the vampire Diaries

returning yay yay uh whoa wait a second what

the hell is this network doing they put a new

show at nine to ten on thursdays and moved supernatural

to nine to ten on tuesdays now yeah you didn't

know that oh my god why i don't know just So

Supernatural's ninth season it's almost up to

the smallville number Steve. Yeah, I'm not thrilled

with that That just means it's gonna turn to

a train wreck before it's done because they're

already talking Oh, we can drag it on for another

like three seasons Okay, but let's be let's be

fair here season season seven out of all of them

is was the lowest of the low and They did a really

good job turning it around with eight Yeah, because

of the Wind Rider. Yes. And so, I will give them

that. But they also lost people over to Revolutions,

so... Eh, yes and no. And then Fridays we have

some reality show with models, which now it's

gonna have guys and girls. for a cycle 20 oh

my god that thing's been on for 20 seasons holy

crap uh and also the carry diaries is on fridays

and i know none of us are watching that stuff

that's what you think anyways really watching

you're really watching america's next top model

uh no no no all right um We are gonna take another

quick break and want to come back with final

thoughts on the Fall season we're also gonna

come back with our top five new and top five

We are back and once again most of our information

came from TV TV comm and TV guide comm uh steve

final thoughts on the fall 2013 tv season premieres

and stuff uh not a bad roundup i mean a lot of

different variety of shows a lot that could end

up having potential to be canceled and other

ones that have potential to be good just kind

of depends on what direction the studios decide

to take as it goes because we know that some

are notorious for canceling things before they

start and other ones are Well, just other ones.

Yes, that is right. What about you, Mike? Well,

this past Saturday, in preparation for this,

I tried to watch as many of the new shows as

I could, or at least the ones I was interested

in. I made sure to watch all the shows that were

available for them. The one thing I did notice,

unlike previous years when I've watched the fall

stuff, I didn't really see something that I didn't

actually like or didn't want to see more of.

I mean, yeah, I had my issues, but there wasn't

like, you know, I didn't have my ringer. I didn't

have that this year. I wish I'm sorry. I wish

there was another show that jumped to mind that

I could. But there was, you know, there's a number

of those shows usually every year. It's like,

oh, that's not going to make it or that's going

right in the heap. Like in the train wreck, well,

there I'll just see where it goes. But this time,

like I told Steve on Twitter, it's kind of like

I need to find like a third category in the right

in the middle. It's not exactly like a train

wreck show and it's not a must watch, but it's

something I don't really want to miss. There's

been a lot of that this year, so at least from

what I've seen so far. So looking forward to

this, I'm actually looking forward to this season

of TV. I'm more so interested in the returning

shows. I mean, like I said, Betrayal looks interesting,

Sleepy Hollow looks damn cool, and The Blacklist

looks really interesting as far as those new

shows go. But really, for me, it's all about

returning stuff, and honestly, because most of

this Fall TV preview that we do every year...

is the networks. It's not the cable networks.

It's the big regular, you know, NBC, CBS, ABC,

Fox and CW. We don't really get in depth on on

the cable side because we would be here for four

hours if we did that, which no one wants to do

that. You know, there are shows on cable that

I'm really, really looking forward to that are

in my must watch. So. That's that's pretty much

where I stand we I believe each of us has made

a Top five new shows and a top five returning

shows list now these aren't in any particular

order For me my top five new shows are the blacklist

Sleepy Hollow the crazy ones betrayal and the

Michael J Fox show I'll give that show a couple

more episodes, but I just I don't know Maybe

I just wasn't in the mood for a comedy when it

came on the other night when I watched it. I

don't know uh... from our returning shows the

voice big bang theory revenge as the u and number

five is a tie cuz it's there their cable shows

dallas and white collar and looking forward to

white collar specifically because it took over

burn notices thursday slot yay sorry mike no

it's fine you're the one that missed out on a

good show Yeah, I just don't like the title character

of that show. But anyway, what about you Steve?

What are your top five new and returning shows?

No particular order My returning shows I'd have

to say is Supernatural Revolution once upon a

time last man standing and the Big Bang Theory

My new shows I'd have to say is agents of shield

the blacklist The crazy ones, this one's a tentative,

depending on how it goes, because it's not out

yet, is almost human. And then if I had to pick

a fifth one, I would say the Michael J. Fox show.

But. I guess I'll say that. Because it's not

it's not bad. I just it's not. Really top five

worthy, but. Again, Mike, what about you? This

is just network TV, right? Yeah. Top five new

shows. The Blacklist is on there. I'm going to

go ahead and put Agents of Shield on there because

like I said, I have high hopes for that show.

I am looking forward to watching more Sleepy

Hollow. Let's see, what else do I have here?

Man. So a lot of stuff hasn't even aired yet

that I'm looking forward to, like the Almost

Human. I'm looking forward to that. Mean I end

the Michael J Fox show that's that's another

one that I will keep watching because I I feel

like that's gonna be my Feel -good show for the

for the season like in past years like Eli stone

Was a feel -good show for me. Just made me feel

really good to watch it because it wasn't like

super depressing or anything like that It's a

real light comedy Returning shows is where it

gets interesting I'm looking forward to see where

revolution goes So I'm gonna put that at number

five and that is actually a hard number five

Person of interest I'm looking forward to castle

as always elementary Because you know, I've got

to watch I like I like the show despite it not

living up to the BBC version of it But very few

things live up to the BBC version of their shows

Raising hope is always a favorite of mine and

one that I actually didn't see on the list It's

kind of worried about it. It's a purgatory. Did

it get picked up? I thought it did. I thought

it got a third season because Alan Tudyk said

he wasn't coming. He was going to do guest spots

on him. He said he was he was just going to do

guest spots and cameos going into the third season.

Suburgatory is one of my favorite shows. What

network is that on? That is ABC. Maybe it's gonna

be in their midseason. That's I don't think all

the midseason stuff has been revealed yet So

maybe no, I think that I think last year got

like a it started in the fall which is it was

a midseason replacement for its first season

and then Right, maybe because of all their new

stuff or all the new stuff ABC's trying now.

Maybe it's been relegated back to midseason Yeah,

I'm just I'm kind of bummed. That's all I'd rather

have more good stuff to watch and Just throwing

this out there whenever Hannibal comes back.

All right, any other thoughts you guys want to

impart on the listeners before we close this

out? My rule of thumb with watching any show,

I guess, if anyone wants to try new stuff more

often, give something two shakes. Because as

I said earlier in the episode and on the forum

for AlterGeek, a pilot episode is never a good

indication of a show. And even if the first episode

isn't called pilot, and it has an actual show

title, it's still a pilot. The show should actually

kind of settle into what it's going to be by

its second episode, unless it's a Joss Whedon

show and then it takes six episodes. Or four

years. But I you know just I that's my rule of

thumb for any TV show That's one of the reasons

why I'm willing to try so many of them is I get

I give each one to and it's either like I know

that I'm gonna I know that I'm going to enjoy

it and I'll either put it in my must watch her

to go to my train wreck folder or I'll just I'll

stop watching it. I am NOT afraid to Drop a show.

It's just if I have any interest in a show whatsoever.

It goes in one of those two things. I think that

For people that like you know a visual storytelling

medium and stuff like this It's like I try to

watch as many shows as I do so that I know when

something really good pops out Because if you

watch only good stuff, it's not you don't really

I mean Don't know I try to I try to watch everything

because then I go I go that's a really bad show

And then that means that this is a really good

one So I just I like I like being able to run

the gamut So if you give everything like a two

-episode shake, you should be able to you know

Give yourself a nice well -rounded view of what

an actual good TV show looks like I Mean I do

have you know shield set to record again for

the second episode, but after that I'm probably

done I'm trying to think the other one I forgot

to mention in our summer Vacation kind of recap

in the intro to the show over the summer Actually,

was it this yeah, it was July. Holy crap. I can't

believe it's that long ago July 23rd NBC premiered

crossing lines with William Fickner most people

will know him from Lieutenant Willie sharp from

the film Armageddon With Bruce Willis and Ben

Affleck. I like that show. I thought that was

really cool I don't know any other final thoughts

Steve No, just Waiting to see how some of them

turn out and which ones get cancelled Yeah, it's

gonna be interesting watching the ratings and

and and how the how the show's fair this year

because Yeah, you guys are right. None of the

big networks really like If it's not, and I know

ratings are numbers and whatever else and everything

else, but none of the big networks, specifically

NBC and CBS, they never really give stuff a good

chance. And what really makes me mad about it

is because, you know, they spend all this money

into doing it or promotion of doing the show

and then, whoops, sorry, done. I just want to

give a shout out to a show. Because I think it's

an amazing show and it's starting next Wednesday.

I think next Wednesday. I think it starts on

October 9th. Or maybe it starts on the second.

I'm very sorry. But it's a cable show. It's on

FX. American Horror Story. I cannot. I mean,

it's an anthology series, so you don't actually

have to watch the first and second seasons to

understand the third season, because each one

is a new story. While they bring back all the

same actors all the actors are playing completely

different roles And they each each one is like,

you know the 12 to 15 episodes and they tell

like kind of like a haunted Ghost story about

a different location like the first step first

season is about a haunted house The second season

is about as haunted asylum. The third season

is about like a coven in the south And it's a

very good show and if you If you want to see

if you're okay with like genuine scares and stuff

like that Then uh, you know you owe it to yourself

to check it out if you like horror stuff i'll

wait for the americans All right, we hope you
