Collecting Habits and Media Opinions

About this Episode
Hi, this is Dr. Andrea Letamendi. And Brian Ward
from the Arkham Sessions. And you are listening
to The Geekcast Radio Network. Ladies and gentlemen,
what you're about to hear is Altering Geekcast
Radio. It is a crossover between Altered Geek
and Geekcast Radio, the two flagship shows of
the Geekcast Radio Network. I am TF2 and Mike.
My idea with this was GCR 64 had to be recorded.
And Steve didn't want to miss giving you guys
an episode of Altered Geeks, so we just sat down
cold, had a discussion, and went from there.
This is GeekCast Radio Episode 64, Random Fandom
Part 1. Enjoy! But I used to more so keep them
when They were actual movie ticket stubs Now
well They're like these paper thin like that
receipt paper that if you get too close to heat
it just disintegrates Like I mean I used to collect
them and then they used to do like these little
You know where they rip off tabs type things
which they still do but it's that kind of shitty
paper now instead of actually having The That
old kind of real thick kind of almost cardboard
paper Yeah, I I think I had been collecting movie
stubs since about 91 or so, you know, I was about
10 in 1991 I was about 10 or 11 years old and
I think the ones I still have now are from like
97 98 99 up until now I've always collected them.
I mean I Go back and look through them every
now and then It's appalling the movies. I paid
money to go see it really is Please don't share
Oh, come on, that's the best part about it. One
movie that I actually now have to watch in the
current day, because I have to review the soundtrack
for La La Land Records, I have to watch The Peacemaker.
I remember when I first went to see that, I thought
it was going to be something completely different
than what it was. It's one of the only movies
I ever walked out of, within 10 minutes of it
starting. So I need to go back with an open mind
and, you know, watch it again now to do that
review for La La Land. Stuff like 10 Things I
Hate About You, Cruel Intentions, what else?
The Bruce Willis, Michelle Pfeiffer movie, The
Story of Us. Let's see, what else? Star Wars
episode one The virus is what keeps him strong
yay Bacteria is the part of the force now But
no to me it was like you know not necessarily
a badge of honor But collecting movie stubs,
it was a fun little hobby. It's just like somebody
who collects stamps. The only difference is there
are no rare movie stubs. I remember in 2002,
at the time, I had gotten into a huge fight with
the girl I was seeing. I paid for Spider -Man
once and saw it five more times because I theater
hopped the entire day. I watched that movie six
times the day it came out in 2002 and now I can
barely watch the first ten minutes of it anymore.
Because now that Amazing has come along and Garfield
is so much better than McGuire, my personal opinion,
you know, it's just one of those things where
like gold and I like Like I was saying it had
to have been somewhere around 90 91 when I started
collecting them as a kid But when I really start
remember collecting them as when I was like a
you know my mid teens 15 16 Gold and I I remember
going to see gold and I and oh my god. I held
on to that stuff forever Spider -man 2 & 3 Dark
Knight I did not see Batman Begins in theaters.
I don't know why. It just wasn't that... I don't
know. In 2005, everybody's making a big deal
out of it. I don't know if it was that I just
didn't care. I don't think that's what it was.
I just think I didn't know that much about it
to really pay attention. I mentioned The Dark
Knight. Dark Knight Rises, Iron Man. more recently,
Days of Futures Past, all the X -Men movies except
for Origins and First Class. Now I know that
people say that X3 is the bastard of the X franchise.
I saw it as a fun X -Men movie and one of the
reasons why is because I grew up on the 92 cartoon
series. So when friggin' Frasier Crane shows
up as Beast, I was like, that could not be more
fitting. You've got Frasier Crane, aka Sideshow
Bob, as Hank McCoy. That works. What else? What
about you? What are some of the ones that you've
collected over the years? I don't actually...
The funny thing is, is... Every now and again
I go through a purge and I just start dumping
stuff in the trash with no rhyme or reason. A
lot of those got dumped in there more so because
they weren't actually ticket stubs. I usually
I end up finding them in my pocket months after
I go. I can't really recall any that I still
have off the top of my head. I mean, I know I
have some. But they're just usually in random
places. I would say probably a couple of old
Star Trek ones from the 90s and 2000s. And I'm
saying like early 2000s, like the stuff that's
come out in the last five, six years hasn't had
real tickets. Stuff like First Contact. But I
think I have a I think I have the original Spider
-Man one somewhere. more so because I just I
That was the first movie. I actually went with
friends to see mmm in the theater I Remember
it well because we went to Walmart stocked up
on food, and then we went So yeah sue me on that
I don't I don't care, but My aunt Judy she actually
made Like homemade popcorn Brought it in this
giant purse one of the theater ushers tried to
stop her she smacked him Did she get sent out
she just smacked his hand away? No, she's She
you know she was she was an elder. You know it's
like Don't touch my shit troll Yeah, exactly.
The funny thing was, I remember seeing two movies
with her and my mom. Matthew Broderick and Inspector
Gadget and Shrek 2. Oh, good lord. I'm trying
to think if it was Shrek 1 or Shrek 2 or both.
Maybe it was three movies, but yeah, no. I saw
Matthew Broderick's Inspector Gadget in theaters.
That's just sad, dude. There was a DVD movie
all the way. I remember freaking out Valentine's
Day weekend 2003 because Valentine's Day was
a Friday that year. And I was just kind of feeling
out of it. I was actually up in Massachusetts
up in Kingston and Plymouth my hometown for my
cousin Rachel's wedding and The night because
they were getting married the 15th. So the night
before was Valentine's Day and we were all at
the Kingston Mall Kingston Independence Mall
and That was the night that daredevil opened
And I remember that beginning scene in the bar,
freaking the hell out because I knew that was
a Nickelback song in the background. As soon
as the movie was over, before the mall closed,
I went over to the record town and bought the
soundtrack. I did not see Electra in theaters,
thank God. I think I've seen almost every Marvel
movie in theaters except for Electra, The Incredible
Hulk, and Punisher Warzone. I have seen The Incredible
Hulk on home media, but I still to this day have
never seen Punisher Warzone. Okay, and I'm gonna
say this right now, and I know you know this
because I've told this to you several times.
A trailer is an advertisement. If the advertisement
looks... like something I'm not going to be interested
in, that I'm not going to go waste my money on
it. And the thing with Punisher Warzone is it's
like 20 times, like I get it. The Punisher is
a violent character. He kills people. I understand
that. But compared to the 2004 Thomas Jane film,
the Ray Stevenson film was like 20 million times
more violent and I just I'm not like violence
on that scale it just Doesn't doesn't speak to
me at all regardless of whoever the character
is I'm trying to think tonight. What else? What
are some of the more memorable movie theater
experiences you can think of Sadly, the only
stuff I can really remember is either movies
I've seen multiple times, ones I've gone with
friends, or a specific series of films. Like,
I've seen every Star Trek film in theater since
generations. And then... Like I've seen all the
Transformers films in theater. I've seen all
the Spider -Man films in theater. I've seen pretty
much all the superhero films. Well, not all of
them, but I would say a majority of them. Like
I've seen all the X -Men films and all the Wolverine
films. I've seen all the Pirates films. Those
are a lot of the ones I remember. And then, of
course, there's the ones that I've gone with
Booth Ninja. Mm -hmm like Batman and then Various
other ones like that Avengers and one of the
Iron Man's spider -man so I mean I've a lot of
those are ones that I tend to gravitate towards
a lot of the more obscure films I don't really
go see in theater. I more so wait till DVD but
that's because I have limited opportunities to
go to the theater. So unless it's a film Mary
wants to see or one that I have to see in theater,
for instance, the last one I saw in theater without
her was, I want to say Star Trek, but I could
have swore there was another film. It's one of
those things where I can no longer watch The
one genre that I have to wait for media release
whether it's DVD at Redbox or whether it's Netflix
online streaming or iTunes I can no longer watch
romantic comedies in theaters It's just a genre
that just doesn't Doesn't scream to me. Oh my
god. I must go see this romantic comedy in any
theater Probably my most memorable films I went
to go see was Two actually Turtles two Because
the whole time because I had as the thing I would
do as a kid I would find out that the movie is
coming out and then I would immediately go to
the bookstore or the library and Look for the
movie novelization so I could know about the
movie ahead of time Because ladies and gentlemen,
that's what you did back in the day when you
didn't have internet in 1990 and 1991. You went
to a library, read a movie novelization, bam,
you know pretty much what's going to happen in
the movie. I remember throughout the whole movie
I couldn't shut up and my mom was so pissed because
I spoiled the entire movie during the movie.
The other one was probably Batman Returns. I
got so freaked at the time because my weekend
foster family at the time, they were gonna go
see it, and it was one of those things that I
told my mom I would see with her. And they're
like, well, we're gonna go see it, so let's go.
I thought she was gonna be really mad at me.
She wasn't, but I thought she was. One of the
more regrettable ones, I think I wish I would
have waited for media release at the time So
I married an axe murderer. I saw that in theaters
Why? Michael Myers films are not worth theater.
Well Austin is He kind of blew that down the
shitter after the first one Are there any TV
shows when you've heard their DVD announcement
that you absolutely had to have the DVD of the
show? Funny thing enough, I only gravitate towards
certain media. And when I say that, I mean, I
only buy certain films based on franchise alone,
like Avengers, Marvel stuff, DC stuff, Turtles,
Star Trek, whatever. Or if it's a film that I
just really like. But as far as TV goes, The
only TV series that we've bought DVDs to Supernatural
well supernatural we bought it through the sixth
season and we just quit buying the DVDs because
Well, it's not even that I don't want to support
it. It's that We kept buying them and we just
don't watch them Yeah, it was it's it's more
so that a lot of the TV series that I own I actually
don't Watch unless we're doing a review show
for the most part like the animated Batman animated
series Beast Wars Batman Beyond Now that I wouldn't
sit there and watch them I just remember it's
one of those blessing and a curse things Because
when Mary and I go to watch movies or TV shows
Especially and I'm gonna go to the TV show I
know that to begin with but when we watch TV
shows and it's a season finale I Have to download
the season finale because otherwise she has no
clue what's going on when the season comes back
because she's like where did this come from why
is this happening blah blah blah and I Remember
everything like crystal clear like it was like
I watched it last night kind of crystal clear
and yeah It's the same way with movies if She
doesn't know what one of them are She asked me
and I can usually remember what every film is
about To the point it's irritating for me to
watch them and it's it is more so an irritant
because I remember them so vividly that I don't
want to watch them ever again. And I don't really
have a choice. That's kind of a problem I have.
There are a lot of movies and TV shows and stuff
like that that I remember very well. Who doesn't
remember every single line to Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles, the original film? I don't. With
the TV shows and the movies on DVD I used to
be so obsessive in my collecting those and I
got to a point in 2010 -2011 where financially
I wasn't doing well at all. I basically had to
sell my entire collection and honestly, I wasn't
sad to see it go Because number one I needed
to get myself back on track with you know with
my money, but number two The entire year that
I had lived in the apartment. I was in year year
and a half I had three giant shelves One whole
section was TV on DVD, one whole section was
animation, cartoon series on DVD, and then the
other section was just regular movies. I would
go over to it and be like what you said. Look
through it. Nope, don't want to watch that. Nope,
don't want to watch that. I've seen that too
many times. I would never... I would go over
to it wanting to pick something out to watch.
I would never pick anything out to watch. And
I'm so glad that I don't collect DVDs or TV shows
on DVD anymore. Again, like you said, not that
I don't want to support it, because I think it's
an amazing format, but I just, I've really lost
all of the collecting bug that I used to have.
Like 2007, 2008, I really got back into collecting,
and I started with, I bought, I spent $1 ,500
on five Transformers. in 2008. Later that year
I would spend $800 on the 2008 BotCon box set
from 2008. I was a like die -hard collector because
at the time I had a job where I was making exuberance
amount of money that I could just throw away.
But now I just even with the comic books when
I buy comics I wait three or four or five different
months and take them up to the comic shop, see
if they'll trade them in for store credit to
buy other ones that I need. I enjoy reading comics,
I love reading comics, I love reading trade paperbacks,
but at the same time, because I've got the pull
bag so far ahead of itself, I'm to the point
now where I get the stuff, I read it, I take
it to the shop. And I'm getting in -store credit
from them. It's not like I'm, you know, asking
for money and going spending it elsewhere. So
I'm still supporting my local comic shop because
it's going right back into their pocket. But
I think the only stuff that I really like hung
on to and people will kind of know this and some
might not. I know I know you know this because
I'm very obsessive with these two characters.
The only stuff I'm really holding on to is Batgirl
and Nightwing, the new 52. The rest is all expendable.
Hey, it's like that film series that nobody cares
about. Wait, which films? Oh, the Expendables?
Yeah. I care about that film series. I like that.
I like those films. I like the fact that all
these old -ass action stars are coming back and
finding a new niche. I really like that. I think
that's good. I find it really interesting. when
there are cast announcements for that franchise.
Because they pull shit out of the woodwork that
you would not even see coming. The second film's
villain was John Claude Van Damme. Guile as a
villain? Really? Eh, don't worry. Now it's Mel
Gibson. I can see Riggs going that shit crazy.
You did that years ago. Yes, yes, he did. As
the Joker said, if you had balls like that, you
would have done that years ago. But no, that
is one of the few... When it comes to actors
and actresses in Hollywood, I'm more so looking
for the old garb than who's up and coming and
new. I've seen several Jonah Hale films. I hate
that guy. I don't hate him personally, but I
hate his acting. I just don't care for his style
at all. Everyone knows, or everyone should know
when I mention this, Van Wilder, Ryan Reynolds.
I think there's one exception that I did not
complain about a Ryan Reynolds film, and that
was when he starred with Denzel in Safe House.
That was the only time I've never complained
about Ryan Reynolds playing the same damn comedic
character over and over and over again. Let's
see. But yeah, as far as the collecting DVDs,
I would rather just find it on iTunes or wait
for it to hit Netflix and watch it that way.
I've really lost the collecting bug Yeah, I have
this thing where I have to collect certain DVDs,
but that's about it at this point I Try not to
collect too much because I just at this point.
I have too much crap and nowhere to put it Yeah,
I mean, you know I went from a Well because I
have to take care of my mom nowadays, so we basically
live in a two -bedroom apartment. That's just
the way it is. I went from having a one -bedroom
apartment and not having enough room to having
a two -bedroom apartment, and I've got enough
room, but there's not enough room for what I
used to do with collecting, and it's just not
that important to me anymore. It really isn't.
Let's see You know the funny thing is I was telling
this to a friend of mine the other day I'm gonna
take the show in a little bit of a down note
here ladies and gentlemen So if you want to fast
forward a few minutes and not hear this story
go ahead I found out Memorial Day weekend or
Whatever weekend it was that the yeah, I think
it was yeah the weekend of the 24th of May That
my grandmother on my father's side passed away
Now my grandfather on my father's side passed
away when I was young So I don't really remember
him My grandparents on my mom's side passed away
in 2000 and 2007. So Well, obviously I still
miss them and it still hurts and I'm still sad
about it It's not as fresh in my mind. So last
month in April, my grandmother on my dad's side
passed away. I felt like such a jerk all Memorial
Day weekend because all I can think of is a certain
comic character death that I read about that
Saturday. And then later that night I found out
about her passing away. And I was like, oh my
god, how much of a jerk am I that I That I was
more emotionally rocked by a comic book character
death, which probably either the character probably
isn't dead Than my own grandmother So depression
of the show is done ladies and gentlemen, what
else you want to talk about? Well, I mean granted
we've talked about a lot of different things
but I've lately I've been burning house crap
And when I say that I mean that and literally
yes literally It's Definitely interesting Like
we're learning how to put together a place that
Like one of those backyard adventure park center
things where it's made of wood and all that.
But. The the weird part about it is is that.
I've never done this crap before, so it's. It.
It's definitely weird. Having to learn it all
kind of just as I go Yeah, but you're used to
winning it. I mean you wing it all the time,
you know Typically I tend to live in my my winging
ways Yes, well, let me ask you this Are you and
Mary are you the personality that has to sit
down read all the instructions first then go
put it together? Or it looks at the picture and
I can decipher what it is just by looking at
it. Okay Is Mary the She does she have a personality
if she has to sit down read all the directions
and then do it or is she also a winger? Depends
on what it is. Okay. The only reason why I ask
is because when you're talking about play sets
My brain flashes to an episode of good luck Charlie
where Bob I know what you're talking about the
father I've seen that one he basically has to
sit down read all the directions and Amy the
mother just says oh no I'll just put this piece
here and she's doing it all wrong I love that
episode but anyway yeah the house stuff you know
that's that's a learning process but once you
get it you've got it you know once you figure
it all out you'll become an old pro in no time
when it comes to that stuff you become a pro
how does that happen? very carefully i mean you
know not on the construction side but buying
and selling a home i could almost be a real estate
agent because i've seen enough of HGTV i know
exactly what to do and what not to do but yeah
I mean, I've put in laminate floors. I've put
in vinyl tile. We've painted the entire house.
We've plugged up teen holes. We discovered when
we tore up the last bit of carpet last night.
that was on one set of stairs that we have all
hardwood that we have to learn how to refinish
which we're gonna have help with but not really
looking forward to it that there's i mean there's
still some other stuff that we got to take care
of yet but i just I'm having fun with some of
it don't get me wrong But you're also really
stressed with a lot of it aren't you and then
at the same time I want to Blow things up So
yeah, it's One of those tape scenarios But yeah
switching gears slightly I've also been tweaking
with the website It's something cast radio calm
And it's it's something I somewhat enjoy Yeah,
I say that I I mean because some of the web stuff
is a pain in the ass So I mean I've been messing
with that and trying to get everything tip -top
shape For the year five reveal Hmm Yeah, it looks
good so far I think everybody's really gonna
like it I hope so it's it's it's a lot of work
Yeah, you people better like it I I don't see
any right reason why not but it's the tip jar
is next to the door pay on your way out people
or Mike will come over to your house yeah right
I'm way too lazy for all that and he'll punch
you in the throat oh god now I have to put in
the ending to Jan Silent Bob yeah you know stuff
that I'm really excited for right now is that
surprisingly even though I haven't I've seen
all the trailers for age of extinction but I
haven't really like When we first did the news
stuff for I think the first full year we did
new stuff together for a Transformers movie was
revenge of the fallen and all the news stories
over and all things transformers that we kept
doing just burnt me out on that movie and Then
going to see it and realizing how bad it actually
was regardless of the writers strike You know,
I've pretty much avoided all spoilers. Not that
I mind being spoiled. I don't. There are some
things I mind being spoiled with. There are some
things that... It's so stupid, okay? One of our
fans... I had to actually block this guy personally
on my personal Twitter because he kept telling
me when a video was uploaded by a certain person
or persons that I follow on YouTube. And I'm
thinking to myself, do you not understand that
I am subscribed to this channel? I get the updates
on YouTube. I know I don't need to know when
a video of theirs is coming out by you who have
nothing to do with them. Um, and then he goes,
I honestly have no idea how the hell you could
spoil a YouTube video, but this guy managed to
do it. So there's that. Let's see, what else?
I don't even know where I was going with that,
but oh, spoilers for Age of Extinction. You know,
I've seen the trailers. The trailers, what I
love about Age of Extinction is the trailers
are barely showing anything. Like they don't
show the entire movie. That's how a trailer should
be. Exactly, that's how a trailer should be.
I mean, you should get a glimpse of it, but not
enough to sit there and make full -blown opinions.
Right, right. In other words, you're supposed
to entice someone like you who automatically
shuts down the information in their mind. Well,
with certain things I do. With other things I
don't. So I'm excited for Transformers later
in June. I'm on the fence about Libsyn's turtles.
Which we've talked about that in length already.
No, I know, I know. And I'm not going to go down
that rabbit hole. I'm just saying, because I
haven't really voiced an opinion on that lately,
at least on either one of these podcasts, I'm
just, I'm very hesitant. I don't completely have
zero expectations, but at the same time, I'm
not getting my panties in a wad about the designs
or about the voices or... Shut up. You know what
the hell I mean, you idiot. You know, I'm not
like half the fanboys on the internet that are
bitching and complaining about it. Which is kind
of funny because you know how I usually bitch
and complain about everything when it comes to
media That's the funny thing though when everybody
was voicing opinions I think as far back as last
year about Iron Man 3 about Man of Steel About
the new x -men movie about Captain America 2
about Amazing Spider -Man 2. I was just sitting
back and watching the circus And then I went
and made my own opinion after I had seen the
films I think the only one I didn't do that with
is the Lego movie because I just I Just can't
get past the leg. Anyway Right now my main focus
Is comics because I'm really enjoying a lot of
the stuff that I'm reading Batman eternal is
great Batman Beyond 2 .0 is great. Wow, it was.
Don't... We don't know what's gonna happen. Keep
it open... Wow, I can't believe I'm telling you
keep it open mind. It's Trapp, he switched. He
dyed his hair. They both did. Wow. The turtle...
Oh my god. As of this episode's recording, I
usually buy trade paperbacks and hold on to them
until whoever is going to be on an episode of
The Pull Bag with me for that trade, like Joe
Reed from Off the Cuff is doing the ongoing IDW
TMNT with me. As of this recording I've read
I've had to not necessarily fast read but I've
had to read all of it to catch up to current
because I'm gonna be interviewing the editor
from IDW Bobby Kernel in a few weeks So but the
turtle story from IDW I mean there's some stuff
that might make people scratch their heads and
might make people say oh that's not how it is
but oh my god this story is like this story that
idw is crafting the universe they're crafting
for the turtles and the ongoing is like no turtle
story i have ever seen or read before it's amazing
um but yeah that that's pretty much where i am
right now um you know i'm reading a lot of comics
um i'm actually having to go through Armada,
Energon, and Cybertron for the All Things Transformers
episode, along with Transformers RID, which I
had seen bits and pieces of Armada, Energon,
and Cybertron. I think I saw the first three
episodes of RID when it aired on television.
After that, I never watched it again. Not that
I didn't want to, or not that I didn't like it
at the time when it was airing, but I just didn't.
It just slipped my mind and I went on to other
things but now that I'm going back and I'm I'm
trying to keep an open mind so far my favorite
characters are the are the bullet trains and
the spy changers Okay, I mean at least you're
trying to keep an open mind I'm trying to where
there's trying I will say that I do not like
this whole thing of mixing Autobot Predacon Decepticon
Maximal whatever the hell they did there That's
a little too strange to me, but it's not something
that's gonna make me just turn the series off
and say screw it It's just a little weird Just
a little yeah, just a little So where is your
head when it comes to what you've got going on
with with geek media and all that stuff? Well,
I'm currently trying to figure out a way to Expand
into other regions of it Not quite sure what
that cryptic response means because it's kind
of a cop -out answer without actually answering
Part of it, you know, and part of it you don't.
Part of it's like it's just trying to figure
out something new to do that nobody else is doing
because it seems like there's an over saturation
of pretty much everything in pop culture and
geek media. You look at comics, you have, you
know... Yeah, you had you know what DC did with
their new 52. Oh, let's have 52 different comic
lines going Oh, let's cancel 10 of them and then
start 20 more and then let's cancel 20 of those
and start five more And then let's cancel 40
of those and start two more or how many how many?
comics of spider -man Batman and Wolverine can
we have I mean, it's just it gets it gets ridiculous
after a while and Honestly, I've I've been trying
to Because I hate to piss and moan about stuff
So I tend to try to figure out a Way that I can
still somewhat pay attention to it and not get
irritated with it But I can also Not actually
have to pay attention to it if I don't want to
So it's it's kind of one of those, you know,
almost double -edged sword type aspects Trying
to find the balance more or less With me in comics
and paying attention to certain stuff I try to
pay attention to everything with comics specifically
when it comes to the solicitation so I cuz what
I really tried to do since DC decided to Screw
the boot. Yeah. Well, they decided to kill the
hero of Nightwing and Make him a Russian secret
agent. What is the Heath Ledger? Joker would
say They chose to kill the Nightwing. Yeah. I've
really tried to branch out in my reading. Like
I said, I'm reading the Transformers from IDW.
Of course I was doing that before, but now I'm
into the Turtles. I'm going to be later on this
year getting into the Ghostbusters from IDW.
Angry Birds is coming out with a comic book from
IDW. I'm actually going to be doing some Metal
Gear stuff later this year. I mean, I'm trying
to widen my horizons as far as what I'm reading,
and I'm not trying to solely stick with superhero
books. Because my superhero books have honestly
very vastly diminished. They just have. It's
just not... So there's that With TV, you know,
there's always something on I really don't look
at the People that pay attention to the big networks
all the time are like, oh my god summer reruns.
Oh my god No, and then you know, they don't realize
that there's cable networks that usually air
new shows the summer that you might be able to
get addicted to like I know USA is coming out
with new stuff AMC TV TBS TNT All those things
So TV I'm pretty well well and set for Toys I
Good well I was gonna say with the TV and since
I've been wanting to bring this up for two weeks.
Have you watched Supernatural No at any point
No, I think I watched the first season the first
episode of the first season But it's just it's
not a show for me. I'm not into supernatural
kind of stuff. I Mean the most supernatural kind
of stuff I get to is like blade and Ghostbusters
And I know those are two very different things,
but I'm just not into the whole supernatural
kind of thing So I I don't dislike the show but
at the same time I I'm not gonna form an opinion
of something I've only seen one episode on even
though that's what I do with agents of shield
So you agree you do a cop -out Well only because
I believe Coulson is still dead, but that's just
my personal opinion Well, I'm gonna bring it
up because it's been driving me nuts and I want
to talk about it so They switched the as I alluded
to last the last episode of alter geek They actually
did something interesting They changed the dynamic
oh geez Instead of having because at the end
of season one They they find their their dad
two brothers And it's. You know, so they're all
driving this car and then this demon thing, you
know, of course, it puts them all in the hospital
and one of them's at the verge of death. Well,
he was about to be taken away by a grim reaper,
which the funny thing is, is the current show
writer is actually pulling back from like the
season first three seasons and tying up loose
ends that were just kind of left dangling there.
But because that same Angel of death more or
less that was in that season two premiere episode,
right They Actually did away with the character
finally But um, yeah they had The the that brother
of course stay alive because the dad forfeited
his life for him to stay alive Which it's one
of those games that they play that oh I'll you
know I'll trade my life for all I'll trade this
and I'll trade that you know they make deals
with demons and it does never works out what
right so and then the season 2 the other brother
dies and then you know they they find a way around
that and then you know the season 3 the other
brother dies and then you know it goes back and
forth every season they die and then they come
back they die and they come back and you know
there's different methods for every way and so
this recent season it started to play the same
game the same song and dance because last last
season the one brother was supposed to be closing
the gates to hell and he started this ritual
which he did the first two And then the last
one was you have to cure a demon. And you use
like you use like holy blood kind of thing and
you just fill them with it and then it brings
them back to being human. Well, they had the
king of hell and they were going to do it. And
then this one brother was dying and the other
brother didn't want him to die. So they had to
stop the ritual. So I know this is all over your
head, but it's I'm putting it in like plain terms
without actually having to watch it. Um, I'm
I'm following I'm following but um, so this season
You know, they they kill this knight of hell
that's supposed to be stronger than you know,
certain other people well because the the brother
that Saved the other one the previous season
This is like the badass one. The other one's
like the the intellectual one. So the badass
one gets this because they try and tie it into
like ancient mythology or the Bible or Like everything's
kind of intertwined between angels and demons
and creatures and everything else, but So he
got this mark of Cain so of like Cain and Abel
from early Bible and Cain at some point became
a demon, but he's got this blade that can kill
angels and demons Hmm because it's like a blade
that He like more or less made somehow through
But anyways he died at one point and It brought
him back as a demon. Well, they don't tell you
that it brought him back. They just make you
think that he is a demon and so After he transferred
his power to this brother this brother kills
this knight of hell and the blade basically becomes
like an addiction to kill. So he tries to kill
this evil angel who's pulling the strings and
it's Booger from Revenge of the Nerds. Oh my
god, so he's like this this pompous like ass
and he's like he's supposed to be the scribe
of God So he just writes his own like he's like,
oh this would make for a great story and blah
blah blah and he's got like this like this crazy
grin and he just something about him bothers
me in the show, but I like the the king of hell
more than I like half these villains that are
coming out because He follows his word. He's
bad, but he'll help them out so anyways this
brother that's the badass that has the sword
tries to kill this scribe of god and this scribe
of god more or less grabs a blade and shoves
it through his chest essentially beginning his
death and then he leaves then You know, of course
that that brother dies At the end of the episode
Let me ask you really quickly it seems like there's
a lot of death between these two brothers throughout
this entire show What exactly is supernatural
about them dying? The ways that they die and
come back, okay, there's like that some of them
get possessed some of them get You know killed
by demons some of them get killed by creatures
some of them have you know It's you know some
ritual that they had to do will kill them. You
know just it varies from season to season but
They did something unexpected They had the king
of hell who's like kind of friends with them
working with them He narrates at the end and
The the intellectual brother is trying to make
a demon make a deal with this king of hell To
bring his brother back, which the other brother
had done for him at one point and the king of
hell is standing in the other room with the dead
brother and He says, you know, you know, your
your brother is trying to bring you back and
blah blah blah and He says, you know how predictable
and and then Basically starts making fun of the
show like breaking the fourth wall almost with
you know, oh, you know you you die and then you
try and bring him back and he dies and he tries
to bring you back and you know, it's the same
old song and dance over and over and Then he
says oh I may have forgotten to mention something
about the blade and about Kane and he says that
the grip of the blade doesn't Doesn't let go
even in death Lord so he says he says this and
he says you know Feel what I feel see what I
see Mm -hmm, and then he says time to wake up
and then the brother opens his eyes and it's
black Which is the the demon eyes? Which means
now he's back as a demon not as himself like
he's himself, but he's a demon now so it so which
brother is the demon Sam or Dean? Dean. Dean
the Demon. Great. He became a demon, which it
says that they're going to, you know, because
the blade brought him back and because he was
in hell at some point. They both were at some
point, but. So. They're leading the season 10
season 10 theoretically should be, and I feel
would be best if they ended it. And this is why.
Sorry for anybody that I spoiled all this crap
for but it's I've I've got it figured out and
I was also reading something that fell on the
same lines after but They said that The the brother
that's the demon now They're they're saying that
he's gonna end up working with the king of hell
and they're gonna end up going against because
Sam Dean we're friends with this angel Castiel
which and Crowley is the king of hell so there's
a demon on the one side with the demon brother
and then there's the the regular brother with
the angel on the other side so now it's gonna
be a heaven and hell battle again with these
brothers pitted in the middle fighting each other
and Mind you Sam never completed the ritual in
the previous season Mm -hmm on the king of hell
so it leads you to believe that the king of hell
and Castiel are going to battle and Sam and Dean
are going to battle but the outcome is going
to be I Feel this is how it's going to end. Anyway,
is that Sam is going to complete the ritual on
Dean? Because from the very beginning you can
tell that One brother is always going to stay
dead by the end of it, and the other one is going
to live. And it's always been of the opinion,
because Dean was the first brother that... He
was the second brother you saw, but I believe
that he'll be the one that stays alive. Because
I think Sam will cure Dean of his demon part
of him. Which will bring him back from the dead
and stop him from being a demon and then Sam
will die Because that's how you finish the ritual
is that just it kills them But they can never
come back after that so it's kind of a I think
that that's how they're gonna end in so Just
have to wait and see but that's that's kind of
they left those doors open on purpose I think
Yeah Honestly, to me what it's going to end up
being, and you know, I've never watched the show.
I've seen bits and pieces of episodes. That's
why I was able to follow along with your common
sense logic. But, um, it's going to depend on
honestly, I think the outcome of the story is
going to depend on which star they want to keep
alive, release it like seriously, whether they
want to keep, um, uh, Jensen Ackles or Jared
Padalecki alive. The funny thing is, is this
show never, I say this and I'm sure it probably
would have happened at some point, but this show
might never have happened if Jensen Ackles hadn't
been originally a guest star on Smallville. It
probably would have. And I guess originally he
read for Sam. oh wow they wanted him to play
Sam and he likes the character being better so
he took Dean which he definitely fits yeah he
does yeah and he was only in smallville for like
a year and a half while he was in season 4 22
episodes so wait Supernatural the anime series
they made an anime series out of it. It was the
first season done over again They did the first
episode and then they had some other guy do the
voiceover I Didn't even it it doesn't register
on my radar. Okay, I Just didn't know that is
all as They say with Teen Titans Yeah, not in
continuity exactly Do we want to throw a commercial?
Yeah, that sounds like a plan. We'll be back

All of this and more... Each week... On The Arkham
Sessions. UnderTheMaskOnline .com We are back.
And because we didn't mention this at the very
beginning of the show since we're closing it
out here, this has been an Altered Geek Geekcast
Radio Crossover. Altered Geek, I believe it's
episode 43? 42. This is Altered Geek episode
42, and this is Geekcaster Radio episode 64.
My idea behind this was Steve and I would just
do a straight, cold opening, not do any real
introductions, and just have a discussion. And
for GCR, it's going to be random fandom part
one, because I'm going to be doing multiple episodes
of this for GCR at some point in the future.
So yeah, now we go to the Altered Geek feedback,
because we need to bring up the feedback from
last week's Altered Geek episode, so take it
away. So, last week anyway, we were talking about
TV shows, cable, season finales, everything else
along those lines, so we have a couple questions.
One comes from Justin Washington saying, So what
do you guys do when the shows end for the summer
and we get into repeats? Any under the radar
show you can recommend to get into during the
summer? That's kind of what I was alluding to
earlier in this episode. I don't notice a lot
of repeats because I don't watch the big networks
as much as I used to, like say... 15 years ago
With all the cable stuff that's going on right
now. It's almost like there are no repeats because
cable networks just There'll be a random episode
of let's say Rizzoli and aisles or white collar
or breaking bad or something like that There'll
be a random episode of that, but they usually
just start new shows like AMC has like three
or four new shows starting this summer I think
FX has at least four or five new shows starting
this summer Yeah, I I'm not watching anything
that's right now going on during the summer so
there's not much I can recommend The only one
I'm really watching is continuum Because it started
like a couple months ago I guess I'm like episode
9 or episode 8 or something like that for the
season I watch I watch whose line which is kind
of in there and out there It's it's random, but
it's it's been going on part of the time anyway
And truthfully there's not really that much different
than any other episode when you watch it, but
I I just I enjoy it I Have every season downloaded
because they don't want to put them on on DVD
Just crap because I like getting the blooper
reels and I have the one DVD that came out a
while back but But I mean that's that's pretty
much the only show I watch I don't really have
a lot of the cable channels Usually when for
whatever reason Comcast for the one of the lower
cable packages comes with 20 some odd channels
25 megabit internet and HBO for two years. I
have not really cared for anything I've seen
on HBO. I don't really watch it. I've tried watching
some of the shows on it. I've watched some of
the movies occasionally, but it depends on how
many times they play them. Think when I had HBO
before because they played the movie so many
times. I saw now you see me probably 50 times
And there were a couple other movies that were
like that that I saw What was the other one it
was the other magic one that had Steve Carell
in it the Incredible Burt Wonderstone, I think
I saw that just as many times I Could almost
quote the movie. I've seen it so many times So,
I mean, it's not bad, it's just they don't seem
to play anything new. And I don't really watch
TV shows off of those because I just call it
what you will, call it poor taste, call it just
personal preference. I just, I don't care for
any of it that's on there. I don't really go
towards the medieval or the, you know, for like...
If they had things like Game of Thrones or whatever,
I don't get into that kind of stuff. That's stuff
that my wife gets into more than I. I don't really
watch any of that. And then I've tried watching
Silicon Valley. It's interesting, but I found
it very boring. Again, that's just my personal
opinion. I watched a few episodes of it. I don't
really like dry humor Office space was an exception
Yeah But I I just I for some reason it just it
doesn't resonate with me so I think one of the
only times, one of the few times I've gotten
into like medieval kind of stuff was... I know
you hate this movie. A Knight's Tale. I love
that movie. I hate it. I just... You just don't
think there should be rock music in the Middle
Ages? No, I don't even hate that. I just don't
care. Yeah. It's... I'm not real big into that
era. No. What else we got for feedback? Well,
there was the comment about over -saturation
in news and marketing, which everybody kind of
jumped all around. Yeah, it's various answers.
Yes, some of them not to certain people's liking
Go read the comments on the latest AGU episode
people Yeah, that's all I'm good. I'm not retreading
that discussion Yeah, but um But I I did like
Brian Jackson's comment about He really sees
both sides and agrees that it's easy to avoid
the hype, but there's just so much of it anymore,
which I totally agree. And then, of course, he
says, people are so worried about content not
giving legitimate opinions, which you can never
worry about us not giving our opinion here on
Geekcast Radio Network. Exactly. because we're
always full of our opinions. Even if you don't
like them, we've got them. We've all been bashed
for it at one point, but again, it's an opinion.
And I mean, for the most part, we try and back
them up with reasons at least. And then he says
not to brown nose, but that's why I like GeekCast
Radio Network because recently it appears It's
more about the people less about the opinions
And then just empty news Love giving all the
sides and different takes too often sites are
just robots and spew the same opinion over and
over and over which We do tend to evolve over
time with our opinions. We don't like as you
know, you've seen with this show it's We went
batshit crazy when Affleck was cast as Batman
and then we were fine with it and then you know
For instance now there's the the rumor that Joker
might be in the film, which I think is a huge
mistake but if they do it they do it I Think
it's too soon. I Mean if they're gonna do the
Legion of Doom, he wasn't in that anyway, so
it doesn't matter So but you know again what
they're gonna do what they're gonna do and hopefully
it works out for the best but I just I It's one
of those kind of scenarios, you know, you kind
of Know where everybody's gonna get on their
soapbox and you know You know whether it's gonna
be good or it's gonna be bad. So and see that's
the thing lately Like I said earlier in this
episode. I have been whole that's usually why
I Sometimes will bring up stuff that you and
booth have already talked about because I wouldn't
may not have been on that episode of altered
geek on the altered geek side, but I have been
holding my tongue on a lot of my opinions on
a lot of the stuff. Now, are you holding it because
you don't want to get bashed or because you're
waiting to see more legitimate information before
making an opinion? I want more. You know, the
bad suit is the bad suit. I honestly want to
see, I mean, I like the new bad suit. I honestly
want to see like a full God no, I don't want
to see I was gonna say full frontal, but no I
want to see like I had I want to see like a headshot
or a you know That's what she said, too How long
is this Proceed I want to see like headshot photo
of Affleck in in the suit or something like I
want to be able to see him and the image we've
seen so far is basically just him looking down
like I said Batman like you know yeah but you
know I keep i guess it's not more so that i want
to hold my tongue in fear of me getting bashed
for just putting out just putting an opinion
out there or it's not so much as me waiting for
more information it's me waiting to see what
other people say and then form my own opinion
once i see whatever it may you know if it's man
of steel 2 or if it's you know what you know
whatever if it's x -men seven or eight or whatever
the hell number they're up to now um you know
i'm more so holding my tongue because i want
to see if number one i want to see the whatever
it is film tv show i want to see it and make
my own opinion but i want to see what other people
are saying first at this point it's kind of like
if you were in an office and you're the last
guy at the water cooler And you just hear the
remnants of everybody else's conversation. That's
kind of what I've turned into. Oh God, I just
realized I'm almost becoming a Milton. Oh God.
I'll put strychnine in the guacamole. I believe
you have my stapler. Yes, I believe you have
my stapler. If you could do that, that would
be great. Yeah. Don't forget those TPS rewards.
What else we got for feedback? Yeah, Jared Kessler
says, backing up Brian, that... He says, I was
getting to the point with all the crazy hype
and over -marketing was driving me buggy. I cut
the cord as much as possible. Did some serious
Facebook and Twitter trimming, which I do defending.
I usually just put filters so I don't have to
see certain comments about certain things, like
whenever Beaver pops up in the news and get glue
or points. That's another thing. I never have
to see those again. Well, now that Get Glue has
become TV tag, I find myself using it less and
less. Not that I dislike the new direction, but
it's not as addicting as it used to be because
they alienated a lot of their user base when
they cut out a lot of different things that you
could check into. Every now and then you'll see
me checking in to get a sticker for a TV show
I might be watching or something like that but
like right now there are no TV shows that I'm
watching that I have the absolute need to check
into. So I have almost like stopped using TV
tag altogether. What else? Well, going through
some more. Justin Washington also says, I don't
see Batman vs Superman becoming a header for
each movie like The Hunger Games or Twilight.
That's normal for book adaptations to do, but
I assume the title will be different for the
Justice League films. At least I hope so, otherwise
you'll have Batman and Superman fighting every
movie. Yeah, you know... I can see it. Yeah,
Batman vs Superman. I think they're just doing
that for this coming up film in 2016. Because
here's the thing, what if Batman vs Superman
The Dawn of Justice is the first Justice League
movie? That's what you and I have been saying.
Well, I've been saying that since day one, but
especially with the casting of other people calling
it what it is, people. Also, I think DC is trying
to go in a different direction I think some of
those characters are gonna get their own films
like obviously Batman at some point the rest
of them It's kind of up in the air depending
on their popularity in the combined films, but
I think that DC is going to jump Instead of doing
all these individual films and then leading up
to a big film I think they're just gonna do a
bunch of big films. I Think they're gonna do
like Star Trek. They're gonna have you know,
they're six big films right in a row of the Justice
League. And then they're, you know, they may
sprinkle one in between here or there, but they're
not going to do like Iron Man one, Iron Man two,
Captain America, Thor, blah, blah, blah. Just,
you know, and then Avengers and then 50 other
films and then Avengers two. And it's it's I
think it's going to be all one. You know, it's
gonna be a six part film or it's gonna be a four
part film or depending on whatever They decide
to adapt and honestly, they should have called
this film world's finest Yeah, other than Batman
versus Superman that just it sounds so I'm trying
to find the right word, but it sounds so dumb
compared to it because it's a Giant superhero
fight tease is what it is. If you're gonna have
Batman for Superman, it almost sounds like Freddy
vs. Jason Yeah, or Alien vs. Predator. Let's
see those films were crap But crap because they
had the verses in there Yeah, so I can kind of
see that there, you know, that's why they had
to add the subtitle Dawn of Justice But It should
have been world's finest Dawn of Justice Yeah.
You know what I want out of Justice League movies?
I want them to just do straight adaptations like
what they're doing with the animated films. Like
honestly, I would love to see a live action new
frontier adaptation. I know it probably will
never happen because it needs to be in... You
know today's you know to keep the audience of
the mainstream audience of today It needs to
be some sort of today kind of thing I would love
to see them do a live -action adaptation of year
one or Well year one's not technically a Justice
League movie. Well, they already did that No,
I know maybe begins. Yeah. Well, yeah, I'm trying
to think of Justice League stuff doom I would
love to see a live, you know, adaptation of Doom.
See, and that could work as a Justice League
film being that, you know, it could be one of
the Justice League films. Right, right. You could
have war be the end, like be one of them, and
you could have Doom be one of them, I mean, or
completely original stories. But. It's yeah.
I don't know how we keep getting on that soapbox,
but. It's so easy to do. I know, I know. But,
you know, most of the GCR listeners haven't heard
that before, so there you go. True. And then
beyond humor, which made it, you know, humorous
part of it, it says, are people really calling
Frozen a masterpiece? I know people like it and
let it go is everywhere, but I haven't heard
anyone call it a masterpiece. Couldn't help myself.
You said you said I've heard several of my Facebook
friends call it that and then I said I wish people
would in terms of frozen let it go away and Bring
me another Pixar film already Yeah, you know
I've heard a lot of people throw the word masterpiece
around when it comes to frozen Frozen is by no
means at all in my top 20 Disney films of all
time in my personal top 20 if I was gonna make
it top 20 right now frozen would be like 21 22
it wouldn't even make the list I just even after
me getting over everybody being so excited about
it and talking about let it go and just people
saying online drop everything go see this film
now it's the best thing ever I waited I waited
a long ass time I saw it The whole time I was
more sympathetic towards the younger sister and
liked her and her character development better
than the older sister. And other than that, I
just didn't care for the movie at all. I came,
I saw, I decided to leave the theater. At what
point? Beginning, middle, or end? I didn't go
see it in theater, I don't think. No, I didn't.
Don't see why I I don't see in that film what
everyone else sees apparently as far as them
calling in a masterpiece and apparently now it's
like Fifth of all time box office or some story.
Yeah, they wouldn't let it leave the box office.
I know It's like, you know, we can't miss it
if it never leaves Yeah, really. It's like that
bad relative that just won't go home Get your
ass out of my house oh my god that reminds me
of the bob rivers group the comedy christmas
comedy group oh god that's so awesome oh yeah
anyway um anything else because i really need
to get to bed honestly no i i was done anyhow
i gotta edit yay edit i will say this Geek cast
radio Will be new soon Very new bright shiny
and new absolutely. It's gonna be spanking new
Yep, brand spanking new geek cast radio. We are
shattering the glass on it everything ladies

I thought you were going to pull a Robin from
Young Justice Diagonal is just agonal. It's kind
of like, why is everybody underwhelmed or overwhelmed?
Why can't anybody just be whelmed? Why do people
have to be whelmed? Yes. To borrow a tagline
from one of the original Spider -Man movies,
the GCRN world is going to be turned upside down.
So you know, black is white and white is black.
Blue is red and blue and red together are purple
and Decepticons rule the universe. Yeah. So if
you could do that, that would be great. At least
the geek in you, we will catch you next time.
Yes, we seem to be down to our last diet of cook.
A gentleman is on his way to pick some up. Just
look for a black car. No, this black car will
be rather difficult to miss. And by the way,
the gentleman is usually in quite a rush. just
