Most Hated TV Shows of the Last 30 Years

About this Episode
or listening to Keycast Radio on keycastradio
.com FG1 Mike and Kevin Optimus Solo Thompson.
Please be aware, what you are about to hear is
our opinions. Only if your opinion is different.
Feel free to comment on the post or call the
voicemail line. You have been warned. Yes. Let's
do it man, let's do it. Thank you for that spoiler
warning, Megatron. Hello and welcome to GeekCast
Radio, episode 27. I am one of your hosts, Steve,
Jared, and Mike, and joining me is Kevin OptimaSoloThompson.
Hello. Ah, that's not what you called me the
other day. We're trying to keep the show professional,
damn it. Oh, okay. 27. As today we are going
to be talking about what we think are the worst
TV series in the last 30 years Shows that we
just can't bring ourselves to watch ever however
before we get to that we have a new GCR review
on iTunes So yeah, take it away Yeah, buddy iTunes
review is entitled 100 top animated series of
all time dot dot dot epic and that's one two
three exclamation points five stars it's from
Flix guy left on back on June 22nd and it reads
this in my opinion episodes 20 to 25 .5 are epic
in response to IGN's top 100 animated series
of all -time lists, the Geekcast Radio podcast
tackles the subject too. However, instead of
just posting a list on their website, the Geekcast
Radio team produces a podcast which spans from
episodes 20 to 25 .5, and if that isn't enough,
the Geekcast staff invites other well -known
geek podcasters to weigh in on the debate. I
consider these episodes to be equivalent to the
X -Men Dark Phoenix saga of geek podcasts. Excellent
job! Three more exclamation points. So, thank
you for that review, and suck on it, YouTube
users. Now, let me just say, he left us back
in June, right? The end of June. The end of June,
okay? We would have gotten to this sooner, but
Kevin and I had just finished recording GCR episode
26. And like, the next day, Kevin's like, oh
hey, did you see the new iTunes review for GCR?
I'm like, no. I saw it about 12 hours too late
to get it in on 26. I looked at it, and I'm like,
you dumbass, why didn't you tell me about it
so we could put it in GCR 26? Yeah, I hadn't
seen it yet. But thank you for the review. Leave
more, people. Yes, thank you so much. Wasn't
that Flix Guy? Flix Guy. Flix with an X. Yeah.
Thank you so much, Flix Guy. We hope to actually
increase the number of episodes that we produce
for GeekCast Radio Podcast here at the flagship
show. Oh, it's going to get good, folks. Oh,
it's going to get really good because... It's
about to take off. Well, I'll tell you this.
This month will be the first time in GeekCast
Radio Podcast history that we have more than
one episode... Like Releasing close to each other
because normally we do them like once a month
once every three months once every six months
not anymore But yes, so with that One of the
things with this topic the most hated TV shows
in the last 30 years For me what it boils down
to number one for me personally what boils down
to his popularity of the show of everybody's
talking about it tonight i see an ad for it or
i see you know part of an episode right you know
attempt to watch like the first episode of said
show and i don't like it but everybody else does
that's what really gets me is all my god did
this show is on and i and i know i say that about
stuff as well my god this shows us memories check
it out but The point of this episode is to just
discuss, over the last 30 years, from the 80s
to now, what Kevin and I think are... Our least
favorite. Our least favorite, and just shows
that we cannot bring ourselves to watch. To me,
the way I view it as, is like, these are the
types of shows, if I'm... looking for something
on TV and there's nothing there's like no big
events happening on TV or whatever but um I want
to watch TV because whatever I've been working
or I'm getting ready to eat dinner or whatever
to me this list represents when I'm flipping
through the TV guide shows that I will not even
consider for a split second turn into even if
I am desperate like these are shows that the
TV will go off or I will like order a movie before
I watch one of these shows Exactly. And this
actually ties into the next episode's topic,
specifically to what you just said. You'll turn
the TV off or you'll get a movie or something
else. That's one of the reasons, and I know you
aren't into the Netflix instant stuff, and that's
fine, but that's one of the reasons why I absolutely
love my Netflix instant subscription, because
if there's nothing on regular TV, I can go watch
Numbers. I can go watch MacGyver. I can go watch
A -Team. I can go watch Spin City. This is why
I love my DVR and the fact that I still have
50 episodes of Wonder Years to watch. God So
again as Megatron is said and as we have said
This is just Kevin and I's opinion of what just
shows that we just will not watch This is not
our top 100 worst shows of all time or whatever
We're not necessarily saying these are the absolute
worst shows ever but to us they are Yes, yes
very much so and the way we've separated it is
kind of by decades. So yeah And we're just talking
about our lifetime, so we're only going back
the last 30 years. So we're not going back to
the 70s or in the early years of TV. We're not
doing that. No. From 1980 to 2011 is the time
constraint on this episode. So with that, we're
going to get into stuff from the 80s, and we'll
be back after this. Some people might disagree
with this next statement that I'm going to say
I know Kevin will not We're gonna agree on something
Yeah, shocker. We're gonna actually agree on
some everybody brace for impact exactly the 80s
best decade ever now now I Can't say best decade
ever in general. I can say best decade ever when
it comes to cartoons and when it comes to TV
shows i'm not going to go into fashion i was
a music well for me it's music as well uh...
see that's where we will differ well you know
one of those is the best -selling dual do a little
bit easier but i still like myself some nineties
music i'm not saying like okay this is a time
this is discussion for we get to the music spotlight
that will get to eventually but for me when I'm
in the mood I can put on my 80s playlist that
has god knows how many bands and artists and
I can just put it on shuffle and I can listen
to it all the time because it takes me back in
time so I mean that's that's what I mean about
about 80s beat you know the music was awesome
in the 80s For TV shows, for me, and we're not
getting into cartoons or anything, we won't be
discussing cartoons at all. No, this is live
action only. Right. I mean, cartoons for me,
it's obvious that the 80s and the 60s were probably
the two best decades. But for TV, for live action
shows, 80s to me represents kind of the in -between
time where it was... Okay, we've been doing TV
shows for a couple decades now So we've kind
of got the you know, the first experimental jitters
out of the way We're not just doing straight
-up Comedies and sitcoms like basically was all
you almost had in the 50s 60s even the somewhat
into the 70s, you know, it was a lot more of
just a sitcom comedies variety shows stuff like
that 80s to me represents like the taking off
point be And also where it was so good because
it was before reality shows took over it was
before and I'm a huge fan of Law and Order But
it was before the crime drama took over And the
80s just was such an eclectic group of shows
That I just I can't come up with many shows from
the 80s that I would just like absolutely despise
watching Yeah There is no Okay out of like okay
We should have mentioned this in the intro, but
we have four different sections that will comprise
each decade. Action, adventure, dramas, all that,
you know, all the serious television stuff. Sitcoms
and comedy, reality shows, and then other, which
could be game shows, late night talk shows, variety
shows, news shows, etc. So those are the four
categories we have. And out of the 80s, at least
for me, There's only two that I just never could
watch. And they're in the other category. Yes,
they're in the other category. And partially
it's because my mom tried to make me watch them
every day. Uh, Oprah and Donahue. Now, I'm not
saying anything against Oprah as far as what
she's done for, you know, Charity all that stuff.
I'm talking specifically about the Oprah Winfrey
show Both of Oprah's and Donahue's shows I believe
at the time back in the 80s Donahue now that
I remembered Donahue was on at 3 and Oprah was
on at 4 3 p .m. And 4 p .m. And I just Donahue
does give me the creeps Donahue does give me
the creeps The only time I ever liked Donahue
was when Lieutenant Frank Drebben replaced him
Well see to me he was like one I mean you also
had like Geraldo back then and you had a bunch
of other people but to me Donahue was just the
one I don't know if it was his look or his personality,
but I Could I agree with you? I could never watch
a Donahue show. I I mean, I didn't watch much
Geraldo either, but Donahue was even worse I
think the only time that I've ever actually watched
Geraldo is if he ever guest starred in another
show. Like he guest starred on Nash Bridges a
couple times. Like if he's doing guest spots,
I can watch him. His actual show, no. And this
is going to be a trend for me because I have
three others that will come up later about talk
shows. If I had to come up with something for
the 80s. would probably say and this is kind
of cheating but I would just throw the whole
soap opera genre in there and they were really
big in the 80s with General Hospital and you
know whatever as the world turns and they're
still big today I know but the guiding light
like they were huge in the 80s and like I just
in general can't watch soap operas so I'll throw
that in that's my one pick for the 80s soap operas
So I think that's it for the eighties. We're
gonna head in, we're gonna jump in the door and
head to the nineties. She was working in a bridal
shop and flashing queens till her boyfriend kicked
her out in one of those crushing scenes What's
she to do? Where was she to go? She was out on
her bed So it's time to put the 80s behind us
and go into the 90s. I'll let you start, I guess.
Do you have any action or dramas? I do have some
action drama shows and I'm gonna get hate mail
for both of them, actually. One of them, I will
fully admit and I understand that it has a cult
following. I understand that it was considered
a very good show and I understand why people
like it. But I cannot stand the X -Files. I just
can't watch the X -Files. I don't like Mulder
or Scully as characters. I don't really even
like their actors. And it's just something, it
was just, I don't know if it was too far out,
I don't know if it was the following that I had
at the time, but I cannot sit through an episode
of X -Files. Now to me it comes down to choices
When the x -files premiered or when it was running
I think people are gonna kill me and I know I
know people are screaming at the top of the long
straw pods I could have sworn x -files premiered
the same year that the adventures of briscoe
county jr. Premiered If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
I'm not looking it up right now. We're just trying
to you know have a discussion about this but
I had a choice and I at the time Adventures of
Briscoe Cannon Jr. came on at 8 p .m. and X -Files
came on at 9 p .m. I watched Briscoe. I loved
it. It was great. I go to watch the X -Files.
Oh it's aliens and UFOs and oh my god conspiracy
and I was just immediately turned off by it.
I think the only thing out of the entire X files
franchise that I actually find watchable is the
movie that they did Fight the future your memory
is good. By the way, they both premiered in 93
That's what I thought so people aren't yelling
at you Yeah. X -Files to me, and again, like
I said in the intro, it comes down to, like you
said, the cult following, it comes down to, oh
my god, the show is, oh my god, everybody must
watch the show. And I know my brother loved it
and everything, but I've never been into, I love
sci -fi, I am a huge sci -fi fan, but I am not
a huge supernatural this type of sci -fi. Yeah,
to me it's just all a bunch of hokey. Where's
hokey wolf when you really need him? Anyway,
sorry. X -Files is a certain niche of television
watcher. That's not me. Exactly, and it's not
me either. The other one's going to piss you
off. I don't know if I want to say it right away.
Go ahead. Because I know you love this guy. Just
can't get I can't take anything serious that
he does And Walker Texas Ranger was one of those
things that he did Okay, I just can't I've tried
to watch it I even tried to watch it recently
and it's just something that I can't stand because
it's so cheesy and I just can't No, I don't want
it like some of the shows that we may list may
end up in future seasons of telecast So I don't
go too far, but I will say that honestly Chuck
Norris himself the only thing I'd seen him in
previously before Walker Texas Ranger was a movie
with Jonathan Brandis I believe also in 1993
sidekicks That's I mean I've seen like bits and
pieces of some of Chuck's other movies Walker
Texas Ranger it was amongst that that CBS Action
prime time thing they had going on in the 90s
Walker Texas Ranger martial law Nash bridges
You know that kind of stuff now. I do find it
very very far -fetched that Texas Rangers You
know full -on karate taekwondo, you know, you
know just sit there I've watched stuff on A &E.
It was a show called A &E SWAT. It was Dallas
SWAT, Detroit SWAT. It was a bunch of city SWAT
teams. And these people never did anything like
what Walker did at Walker Texas Ranger. That
being said, over the time of watching the show,
I got to like the characters. And I got to like
the personal stories going on with all of the
characters. Interesting fact. Before this, Clarence
Gilliard, who plays James Trevette on Walker,
was on Matlock for a number of years, and he
was also one of the bad guys, and he was the
computer genius bad guy in Die Hard. Okay. So
I like some of the other actors in the show.
Okay, I just can't say Chuck Norris as an actor.
That's fine, that's fine. Anything else? No,
that's it for my action block. I don't have anything
for the action block at all. I just really couldn't
think of that many things. Going into sitcoms
and comedies, I was devastated. Like everybody
was devastated when the Cosby show ended. And
then they're like, oh, I think it was Denise.
They're like, oh, let's take Denise on a journey
and let's put her in a different world. I cannot
stand that show. I liked it only for the one
character with the tall guy with the glasses.
I don't remember his name now. But no, it was
nothing like the Cosby Show, so I understand.
I could watch it, but I get it. It was so far
gone, and I get it was about Denise's journey
doing stuff past Cosby Show and all that stuff.
Sometimes when you take a character out of their
original show and try to do a spinoff with them,
it just doesn't fucking work. The other one from
the 90s for sitcoms that I absolutely hate and
this is solely because of the main star and this
person's voice. I already know what you're gonna
say. What? I already know what you're gonna say.
It's on my list too. The Nanny! I can't watch
a minute of it. Oh my god! I don't even know
how that show lasted more than an episode. Fran
Drescher should not be an actress. No, how can
you base your show on the most annoying person
on the planet? Okay, now let's do a little comparison
here. In the 80s, you had Mr. Belvedere. He was,
you know, but... My memory might be filming you,
but you can correct me on that. He was the butler,
right? Yeah, kinda. Family? Yeah. He was, he
was that time. Okay. You have Mr. Belvedere in
the 80s. Mr. Belvedere was a great show. For
the most part. Okay? You flash forward to the
90s, and you get almost the same type of show.
But wait, how many is us like this? Yeah, she's
terrible. Just... God awful. Oh my god. I definitely
had that as number one on my list, as number
two on my list for sitcoms of the 90s. I don't
know, go ahead. There's some other ones and people
are going to hate me for these because there's
three that are really popular. Actually all of
mine are probably pretty popular. I can't stand
the Drew Carey show. See, I like Drew Carey.
I like his show. I don't find him funny. And
that girl that was on his show was almost as
annoying as Frank Drescher. Kathy Kinney? Whoever
that chick was. He likes or that likes him. I
mean or something. I don't know the big big one
Yeah, that's Kathy Kinney. She played Mimi. Yeah,
I couldn't stand her and I'm just never been
a Drew Carey fan Like even on whose line is it?
Anyway, I like everybody except for Drew Carey
on that show So I would never be caught watching
that show I will say one thing about the Drew
Carey show because I I do in fact like it I can
I can watch an episode of Drew Carey and I can
laugh, but to each their own. The one good thing
about the Drew Carey show is it produced Craig
Ferguson, who is doing Late Late Show now. So
there's that. The most popular one on my list
is, and I don't think I've never met someone
else that hates this as much as I do, but I'm
someone who can usually watch just about any
sitcom. I don't usually watch them when they
first air. I don't watch them when they are.
I usually catch up with them once they're on
repeat where I can watch them where they you
know play back -to -back And they're on every
single day. I mean, that's how I've watched almost
everything. That's how I've watched indication
Yeah, once they're in syndication. That's how
I've watched Seinfeld That's how I've watched
King of Queens shows that I never even thought
I would watch and then I catch a couple episodes
And I'm hooked and I watch them for a while Never
have been able to watch more than one episode
of everybody loves Raymond. I I don't find Anything
about that show funny the his parents are annoying.
The only person the only character I even like
on that show is his brother Yeah, yeah his wife's
annoying as all hell and He's just not funny
to me. I just don't like it. I can't get into
it I've tried because it always comes on after
King of Queens and it's just nowhere near as
good. Um When everyone loves Raymond I like The
sarcastic bits with the parents But the whole
war between the wife and the mother That was
annoying The interaction between him and his
wife is annoying. Yeah, I Mean, I don't like
how it portrays men either. I don't know. Yeah,
no, I mean But you know, Brad Garrett's care
Robert is Again, I don't have any we don't have
any information in front of us about these shows
We're just talking about them off memory. I believe
he was a cop I think so too the character of
Robert They portrayed him as a dumbass and The
one when I really started to like Robert was
when he and Amy started dating and that whole
character development happened But yeah, Ray
his wife They just yeah and the parents I like
I do like the parents even though the mother
is a little The father was I mean Peter Boyle.
You can't say He's all right, but just together
together. They're not my favorite parents, but
I don't mind them alone Another one that's completely
popular and obviously has a cult following from
the female audiences sex in the city Oh god,
thank you for bringing that up. I was gonna put
that on my list. Fucking can't stand that show.
But it has a male counterpart! Men of a certain
age, which actually stars Ray Romano! It does.
We're going full circle here. But no, I just...
Something about Sex and the City, it's just...
Probably because some of the people I know that
watch it are... Try to like... Watching it with
a female is a mistake. Because they think it
gives them license... to be like holier than
thou and like oh that show is so right and that's
how guys are and blah blah blah blah blah and
oh it's so funny let's make fun of male the male
species non -stop I don't know I just don't like
it it's over it's over dramatic it's over dramatic
I don't like Sarah Jessica Parker either I don't
like her either the brunette's cute though whatever
her name is I think that's my other problem is
I don't find any of them attractive except for
the the brunette yeah I don't know so even I
mean the reason I said I don't find any of them
attractive because then even if the show is bad
I might still be able to watch it but that right
so I still can't watch it and then I have one
more for sitcom comedy maybe my least favorite
show of all time married with children really
I cannot fucking stand that show really I just
can't stand it I it's Don't like any of the characters
even though the chicks hot and I'm talking about
the daughter not the mom But it's just Yeah,
I can't stand it. I could go into detail, but
I don't want to piss people off See I grew up
watching that show so it's like they it's like
they saw Roseanne and we're like how can we make
it even more crude and rude and disgusting Wait
a minute did Roseanne come out before married
or yeah, well way before The one thing you get
to give to Maryland children, though, is that
it's on Fox. When Fox is desperate. No, no, no.
This is before Fox got, I mean, Fox is getting
desperate. Fox was desperate at the beginning
to try to compete with all of them. So they're
like, let's throw out the most crass. I don't
know. I just don't, I just, ah. All right. More
parents I hate. So you got any reality shows
from the 90s? No, I couldn't even really come
up with too many reality shows that had started.
Obviously, 2000s has been the decade of reality
shows, so I'm going to give the 90s a pass on
that. I will say once the real world started,
there are certain seasons I can watch only because
they're in cities that I like, like the Boston
season, the New Orleans season, I like that cast.
The New York, the back of New York season, even
though it produced The Miz. Oh, God, don't. See,
I don't watch. I've never really watched The
Real World or The Road Rules, but I will admit
that the challenge shows are a guilty pleasure
of mine. See, I hate those. I love the challenge
shows. I hate the challenge shows. I love the
challenge shows. I would be on one of those in
a minute. I've got a number of other stuff, and
I'm going to actually start with Goosebumps.
Do children like to really be scared like this?
Only in Are You Afraid of the Dark? Well, yeah,
but that's Nikola. Okay, my real hatred of Goosebumps
comes from... Arl Stein is an amazing author.
I first read his Fear Street series of books.
And then he started doing his Goosebumps books.
And I read several different Goosebumps books,
and I'm like, wait, this is complete 180 of Fear
Street Saga's books. And I get that he was going
for, you know, maybe a little bit younger audience,
maybe a different genre. When the television
series happened, I was like, really? They're
making a television series out of these books.
I would love to have seen a Fear Street. TV series.
But yeah, Goosebumps is just something I cannot
watch and I don't get the popularity behind it.
This is probably the only, I think, let me double
check my list to make sure. Yeah, this is the
only type of news show that I have listed The
View. I've tried like if they like it if they're
the only ones in the morning show circuit that
have a certain get like if they're the only ones
that have Say Tom Cruise or Blake Lively or you
know what if they're the only ones in the morning
show circuit that have that guest I would watch
the show but just hearing them go on the view
is Essentially the news version of sex in the
city It's pretty terrible. Although I like whoopie
and I like when she pisses people off The only
time I ever watch The View is if I've heard about
some type of controversy or some type of blow
up and then I just YouTube it. Yeah. See, I haven't
watched it really. I think I've watched Whoopi's
premiere, but I haven't watched it since then.
But I used to watch it before Whoopi came on,
so like all the other first chairs or whatever
the hell they call them. I used to watch when
Meredith Riera was on there. I can't watch The
View. Well, why you need to stick to your interviews
and she doesn't even need to do that really Well
And here's where I get back into the the other
talk show god, oh wait Ricky Lake, okay. Give
me a fucking break. That was pretty disturbing.
I mean seriously Yeah, um Mori povich almost
all talk shows I know. I mean, Mori Povich, alls
it is is, oh my god, who's my daddy this week?
Seriously, every single fucking episode he does
is about DNA testing, blah, blah, blah, blah.
He has done a couple episodes like, like, bad
kids need to go to boot camp, blah, blah, blah,
and get, you know. But other than that, I just
cannot stand Mori Povich. No, I agree with you
there. And the end -all, be -all, king of horrible,
horrible talk shows. You already know I hope
you already know I'm gonna be the one I think
it is and you're a moron for saying what you're
about to say. Oh Really? You like Jerry Springer?
Okay, good. I'm so glad you said that I thought
you're gonna say something else. I'm not even
gonna go there. No, what'd you think I was gonna
say? Nope, not gonna be mentioned. I'm so glad
you said Jerry Springer cuz I was gonna add that
to my list now see Jerry in the beginning he
had a choice between an actual talk show like
what Oprah or Donahue was. Or he could do entertainment.
I equal the Jerry Springer show, and I know it's
going to be bad, but the WWE, because the WWE
had a choice. Do we make this all about sports
or do we make it about entertainment? Let's call
it sports entertainment and do both. Jerry Springer
had a choice between doing actual topics and...
Oh my god, my girlfriend of five years is actually
a man. Or I've been cheating on you with your
mother or I've been cheating on you with your
best friend. Oh god. It's a fucking nightmare.
I gotta throw in Divorce Court and Judge Alex
in there, too The only two judge shows outside
of the outside of the people people's court and
I'm talking about the judge Waffner days of the
people's court I like the chick. I like the chick.
Yeah, what is it? Marilyn I can't remember her
name. I forget her name. The only two - Marilyn
Milian. Yeah. The only two court shows I can
actually watch and get a decent laugh or just
be like, oh my God, what the hell, is Judge Joe
Brown and Judge Judy. Other than that, all other
court shows besides The People's Court and those
two shows I just mentioned, all other court shows
- I think your world just fell apart. Suck Yeah,
I can watch judge math as occasionally, but I
can't watch any of those judge shows nowadays
I used to be able to watch the people's court
and I watched judge Judy until she pissed me
off cuz sometimes she just doesn't listen and
she makes over mine too quickly, but uh Judge
shows in general are pretty horrible. But yeah,
some are way worse than others. Yes. They are
Do you have any other other type of? Okay, so
One is the man show Oh, yeah. On Comedy Central.
Yeah. The man show with Jimmy Kimmel and all
that was just, like, that represents the types
of people that I wanted to kill in high school.
I will say this. The only time I've ever enjoyed
watching Jimmy Kimmel in anything was when he
was the, quote unquote, host of Win Ben Stein's
movie. Yeah. But the man show, I mean, that's
just the type of guy that nobody should like.
The type of guy that likes the man show. No girl
should date the types of guys that watch the
man show. No guy should be friends with guys
that like the man show. It's terrible. And then
the other one, and this, if they did it right,
is a great concept, and I realize why it's been
around for decades and decades and decades, and
it could be funny, and it could be great, but
they fucking ruin it in every incarnation, and
that's any of the America's Funniest Home Video
type shows. They ruin it by giving hosts shitty
lines to read. I will agree and disagree with
you on this one. I don't even know if the people
that we're hosting could have been funny if they
would have been allowed to make up their own
shit. But the crap they had to read and the jokes
that they had to tell, Bob Saget sounded like
a faggot. I'm sorry. And I apologize for the
racial or the not the racial the gay slur there,
but a Bob Saget was terrible on there See I liked
Bob Saget on there Of course when I watched it
was in its infancy when Bob was do I watched
it when when full house premiered So I was like
seven or eight years old when I would watch America's
funniest home videos I liked it then as a kid
because obviously I didn't know any better. Um,
Can I go back? Tom Bertrand's terrible See, I
like Tom Bergeron. Daisy Fuentes and John Foolsong,
or whatever. Oh, God. No, no, no. All right.
All right. That I will give you. I don't hate
these people. I hate them on the s - No, no,
no. I understand that. But out of the people
that you just listed, the only two that I like...
are Saget and Bergeron because I liked Bergeron
on the new Hollywood Squares and all that stuff.
I like him, but my problem is the stupid jokes
they have to tell. Then they interview people
that are pointless interviews and they ask them
stupid questions that they don't even answer
and then the videos that win aren't even the
funniest videos they show. The videos that win
are stupid usually and I didn't realize that
Jess Harnell is now the narrator for that show.
Oh, really? See, I haven't, like, I haven't want,
like... Since 98, apparently. Is, is Tom still
doing the hosting? Yeah, 2001 to present. Okay.
Yeah. See, I, I haven't want, like, I'll catch
it in syndication every now and then, but I haven't,
like, actively watched AFV for years. It just
could be so much better done. Nah. The idea of
funny home videos is funny. I mean, look at all
the YouTube shit and all that, that's just hilarious
and, and stuff like that and, like, all the different...
shows that spoof off of videos they find on the
internet and whatnot like but this is just so
stupid cheesy i don't even understand how anybody
finds a single joke that any of these hosts say
as funny i just don't get it so yeah that's my
rant on afv as they like to call it in these
cool days i'm done with the 90s I used to be
a spy until we got a burn notice on you. You're
blacklisted. When you're burned, you've got nothing.
No cash, no credit, no job history. You're stuck
in whatever city they decide to dump you in.
Now it is time for the 2000s. I'm gonna start
this one off with the action dramas. I only have
two listed. There have been a number of superhero
live -action shows over the years. Some better
than others. One of the ones I think is better
and one of the ones that isn't on my list As
worse because I did actually like this show as
a show called mutant X I Thought it was a nice
spin on the whole x -men thing and this that
nearly everything else plus the blonde chick
that's on there was hot Victoria Webster, I believe
her name was or so I have been mine might be
I'll look it up later But the one show I believe
in 2006 2005 somewhere around there that came
on on NBC That just I thought was just a complete
copycat of everything that came before it None
of the characters to me felt I didn't attune
to any of the characters I didn't find any of
the females that attractive even though I'm sure
they are heroes. I hate heroes I've never seen
it, but I've heard it was good You know people
say season one and season the problem with heroes
This is a problem with broadcast television in
general these days it constantly had issues of
When it was gonna get picked up when it was it's
like they had the first season they had like
season two and then like season three part one
season season three part It was like it ended
up kind of like as one of these like summer shows.
Oh, let's bring it back for a summer season and
it just I just don't like that show. That show
is just horrible. So you don't like it? No. The
other one, even though it has Bruce Campbell
in it, and I absolutely love him as an actor,
and I really like his character in the show,
but the show in general. Burn notice. I hate
the character of Michael Weston. Just the arrogance
of the character. I don't like the guy that plays
him. just like the whole point of burn notice
is he was a CIA agent and somebody burned him
so the whole first season he has to find someone
the the person that burned him okay so if you've
finished if you accomplish that goal by the end
of the first season why is the show continuing
now I haven't watched all of burn notice I've
seen maybe 10 episodes total out of its four
five six sixty however long it's been on and
i just cannot take it seriously i i just cannot
bring myself to watch it i will say though when
they did do this year they did uh... like uh...
a special feature movie with uh... bruce campbell's
character sam ax it was burned notice the fall
of sam ax it was centered on how sam got to be
in miami with michael and i like that i wish
that the actual show burn notice was based on
Sam Axe more so than Michael Weston. That's really
all I have listed, I'm sure. I'm sure there are
others in action dramas, but that was all that
I had listed. So what do you have for action
drama in 2000? I just got two. Again, bring on
the hate mail. But the main one that everybody
loves that I can't stand is House. I'm right
up there with you. I hate that show. I hate it
with a passion. I just don't get it. Maybe I
just... The show has its own fucking video game.
It's just beyond stupid to me. And the other
one that's even more beyond stupid and got weirder
as the episodes went by and I will admit that
I watched most of season one only because I had
a female... that I was interested in that would
come over to my house because she was a huge
American Idol fan. And this show would come on
after it. And that was Fringe. And... Everybody
loves Fringe and I just don't get it. I watched
the first year and it was really weird and then
it just got weirder and weirder and weirder and
I don't get how people can like this stuff that
makes absolutely like... It must... A show like
Fringe has to be the easiest show to write for
in the world. Because you can just make up the
most ridiculously impossible, far -fetched shit,
and it fits right in. Like, Fringe and House,
I just don't get it. I'm sorry, people, I don't
get it. That's all I got for action or drama.
Yeah, I'm trying to think of anything else in
the 2000s. Not really. So moving into sitcoms
and comedies. For me, it's NBC and USA All the
Way. The Office. from NBC wow I first of all
I don't get the whole what's the point of the
damn show they're in an office it is it just
like oh hey this is our adventures in our workplace
type I just don't get it I get that it's not
for everybody and it's not one of my favorite
shows but I do understand why people like it
I don't know I mean, The Office, to me, from
what I've seen of it, it's like they tried to
make an office space television show. You just
don't like Steve Carell, admit it. Well, okay,
well, that's true. But I just, him and comedians
like him, I don't like their brand of comedy.
I think there's only one thing out of the entire,
out of his entire filmography that I actually
liked him in, which was Despicable Me. And they're
coming out with a sequel, anyway. Are they so
I'm so happy No, no, sir. Are they coming out
with this 2013? Oh I gotta go search that out.
That's it. I'm leaving by They're gonna do some
more minion movies to spook to oh hell yes, I
bet up in movies anyway What else you got for
sitcoms? Psych I get that 100 % it's not on my
list, but I understand 100 % You have a guy.
You have two guys. One is a cop, the other one
is pretending to be a cop. Yeah. I... I get it.
I just don't fucking get it. Any other ones?
Yeah. Well, you collect yourself. Royal Pains.
I've never seen that one. Royal basically takes
psych, but... Take take house and psych and take
the cops out of it. Okay. Mm -hmm. It's So you're
gonna be all right there Royal pains is He's
the the last traveling doctor. He's the last
doctor that makes house calls and he'll make
them anywhere He will treat he doesn't the lead
character doesn't believe in working in hospitals.
Gosh. At all. So it's almost like if you made
House, the character of House, more funny and
took him out of the hospital. So that's it for
me for sitcoms. What about you? Oh, Lord. Well,
I'll start with the one that I mentioned in last
week or last episode, and that is Blue Mountain
State. Blue Mountain State should have never
got. I wonder if there's somebody on Twitter
that said they liked it. Someone on the Geekcast
Radio website, actually, I think. But no, Blue
Mountain State should have never got past whoever
shows have to get passed by to get on the air.
There should have been some type of board of
directors or some type of meeting where that
somehow didn't pass. That shows an abomination
to television. My name is Earl. Yeah. Don't like
it at all. don't find it funny at all. Yeah,
I will agree with you. And sorry, this is the
only time we have to record this episode and
yes, there is a thunderstorm. I like it because
it's the worst shows and it's thundering. Exactly.
I timed this perfectly. And I'm hoping that thunderstorm
comes our way because we need it. No, actually
you don't. Fuck the 120 degree heat index. Well,
actually you don't because the state of Illinois
is like the state with the worst luck as far
as having power outages. That's true. What were
we talking about? My name is Earl. My name is
Earl. Okay, I like Jason Lee and his Kevin Smith
movies that he's done. I don't mind the characters
he portrayed in that, but yeah, Jason Lee and
My Name is Earl, like, oh, yeah. This is one
for me that's like Everybody Loves Raymond. I've
tried multiple times. I've tried like two or
three times to watch an episode and... find it
funny and get into it and I just can't do it.
I think the whole premise of the show again is
he's trying to make up for everything he's wronged
people with. Yeah. Or something like that. It's
just too redneck for me, I guess. Yeah. And then
the other two are super popular again. One of
them, Reno 911. I don't get that show. I just
don't get it. I've never been a fan of really
Super Troopers or Reno 9 -1 -1 or... Now Super
Troopers, I love... Super Troopers is funnier
than Reno 9 -1 -1. Yeah, I love Super Troopers.
Maybe it's because my dad was a cop when I was
growing up that I don't necessarily like just
shows that riff on cops non -stop, but I also
don't find it that funny. It's just stupid humor
and I'm not a big fan of stupid humor. Even though
I know Larry Kenny's daughter's in it and she's
cool. And the other one this if it's not married
with children as my least favorite show of all
time and then it's this one and that is scrubs
I fucking hate that show That show is beyond
stupid I'm sorry. Do you like the show because
I might have to come hit you a Little but go
on scrubs is not something Yes, it is. It's it's
in syndication now. It's over. It's not running
new episodes. At least I don't think it is anymore.
I think it canceled Scrubs is a hit or miss for
me. It just depends. I like a lot of the actors
in the show. I Like the lead guy. I like Donald
Faison is it Donald Faison is hilarious. Donald
Faison is the is Turk I like him as an actor.
They might be good actors, but on the series,
they're just stupid. Everybody's stupid. It's
stupid. That's the only word I can come up with.
Just stupid. And then one that actually didn't
make it, thank God, past I don't think hardly
any episodes, was the Geico caveman sitcom. Oh
God, I didn't even pay attention to that. That
was pretty terrible. I mean I didn't watch it,
but I couldn't have even wouldn't have ever even
considered watching that I'm just waiting for
them to give oh I'd watch it if it was a gecko.
Oh, man No, no best idea ever take the gecko
Take the general from general insurer Take all
the mascots from all the insurance commercials
flow everybody take all these people put them
into one fucking show and see what happens except
for the caveman Well, yeah, the cavemen suck
so that's all I have for my sitcoms All right
Now Reality shows now first of all we got to
preface this that if we really wanted to be Realistic
to shows we can't stand reality wise in the 2000s.
We could be here all day We could so we tried
to narrow it down. At least I tried to narrow
it down I only have five we got three I only
have five and I narrowed it down to ones that
I just cannot watch. Okay um back in 2000 the
year 2000 after the y2k thing died down all that
stuff and we all survived yes reality tv hit
with a vengeance in 1947 candid camera started
reality television every reality tv series since
1947 owes something to candid fucking camera
um but in 2000 i had a choice I could either
watch a show that was outdoors on an island with
people eating nothing but bugs, or I could watch
a show with people indoors that have actual food
but if they fail something they have to eat slop.
Of course I'm talking about Survivor and Big
Brother. I watched the first season of Survivor.
That was it. I was done. Just fucking done. I
don't like the show, I don't get why people are
so engrossed and made the damn thing popular.
I think the only other time that I've watched
it was when the whole Boston Rob, Amber thing
about them falling in love on the show, and the
only reason why I even watched it then was because
the guy was from fucking Boston. Other than that,
Survivor, no, I hate that show. I don't hate
it, but I'll let you hate your bugs So I'm taking
it that you don't like fear factor either Okay,
well I'll jump to that then yes fear factor.
No your factor The only good thing about fear
factor is the non eating challenges the only
good thing about fear factor is folks It's coming
back Oh God Joe Rogan is coming back, and they're
doing more fear factor Wow is it gonna be on
NBC again? I don't know, but I'm excited My only
question was the contestants and the outfits
they had to wear. Oh my god. Anyway. The Jersey
Shore. Why did this even get created? I mean
seriously. The people on that show basically
have no redeeming qualities and all they're doing
is teaching the masses of high school and college
age people to be complete losers. To not work
to not take your job serious to have the only
things that you're concerned about tanning and
your self -image Drinking and sleeping with as
many people as you can like that's great positive
messages We're putting out there for the youth
and the only and what really pisses me off with
the popularity of how bad it is and it becomes
popular What pisses me off about this is that
the Jersey Shore infects other things for WrestleMania
this year? They had a match between fucking Snooki
and like three or four other WWE stars. I'm like,
wait, what? Yeah. And Mike, the situation just
proved how much of a moron he was on the Donald
Trump roast. What a fucking joke. He's my least
favorite person on that whole group. Who? Mike,
the situation, whatever you want to call him.
Wow, I'm really loving this score. But I can
high 100 % agree and support your Jersey Shore
hate. The next one is actually the first part
of the show and then it's spin -off. The Bachelor
slash Bachelorette. Slash Joe Millionaire slash
every other show that's been like that. Oh my
god. The whole concept is fucked up, first of
all. Alright, yeah. I'll let you talk about the
concept here in a second. The only good thing
about this show is I like Chris Harrison, the
host, because he has gone on to do a lot of the
TV Guide and channel stuff. He is the narrator
of Design Challenge on HGTV. The hosts for a
lot of these shows are good. Yeah. Jeff Proffs
even from Survivor, TJ Lavin from the, I know
you don't like the challenges, but he's a great
host. Like a lot of these hosts are actually
really good. Yeah. Sorry. But the Bachelor Bachelorette,
the premise of this, this whole falling in love
thing, choosing out of 25 million, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah, whatever. And then they're
surprised when it doesn't work out. Yeah, that's
the fucked up thing. They got a divorce or they
broke up. Oh my God, really? You didn't see that
coming? Sorry. No, you're right. I mean, that's
the main reason why I hate the show is because
they go through all this stuff. And the thing
of it is, is what I've noticed about television
shows like this, The Bachelor can be put into
this, Real World can be put into this type of
thing. They filmed the show like six months to
a year prior before it airs. So by the time it's
airing, you're like, oh, what really happened
blah, blah, blah, blah here? Well, now that the
show's over, blah, blah, blah, oh, wait, but
it's not over being aired on TV. So we can't
say, oh, my fucking God. My, I don't know. First
of all, that's not how relationships and how
love works, people. And second of all, even if
it does somehow think even you think you have
a connection, you're living in a situation that
is not going to be like your real life. You're
living. TV show where stuff is provided for you
where cameras are on all the time Don't expect
things to be the exact same when the cameras
get shut off and all sudden nothing is being
provided Like I'm sorry. The concept is flawed
I could have listed every single showed like
that because there's been about a million of
them whether it's rock of love or whether it's
flavor flavor flavor or all of them. I mean it's
so stupid like you can't just select these like
twenty or thirty people and just expect to fall
in love with one of them. Now, I did like Rock
of Love. It was entertaining but it's still like
stupid. It can be a guilty pleasure but the mass
amount of those exact same types of shows is
overwhelming. Oh yeah, there's so much snow.
And the final one from my reality shows. Actually
launched someone into superstardom as far as
the host And it has the single worst judge in
reality television history I only watched really
the first season because I liked The person that
won and I like the runner -up as well American
Idol say I love me American Idol until this year
I am so like I... The voting system is fucked
up beyond belief, but... Oh, you have no idea,
I mean that's... That is the one exceptional,
that is the worst host in reality TV. Yeah, Simon
Cowell is a jackass. I like Simon Cowell, but
Ryan Seacrest is... That's what I mean about,
about... No, I was saying host -wise. Ryan Seacrest
is terrible. Let's talk about the hosts, alright?
Most people don't know this. Oh, they sure do
by now, I'm sure. Well, most people won't. Some
people might, but most people that haven't been
paying attention to Idol since day one. Originally,
American Idol had two hosts. We had Ryan Seacrest
and Brian Dunkleman. Brian Dunkleman has faded
into obscurity, something I wish Charlie Sheen
would do. Ryan Seacrest, on his own, he's okay.
He's a jackass on the show. On the show, he's
kind of a jackass. Outside of American Idol,
he's alright. I can't stand Simon Cowell. I love
Simon Cowell. I can't stand Paula Abdul and a
couple other people and some of the other judges
they have, but my main problem is the judging
system and the way the voting goes and it's fucked
people over so many times that should have won
or should have got farther and this year I had
enough and I stopped watching it. Probably for
good. I will say the whole judge changing thing
over this year from... Paul Abdul and Simon Cowell
to Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. I didn't
mind them. I said I didn't mind them. No, I thought
it was a great improvement. I know Simon Cowell
was a music producer. Obviously, Paul Abdul is
an artist. Randy Jackson was a producer slash
artist. He played with Journey for a while, stuff
like that, back in the 80s. much preferred Lopez
and Tyler over Calvin and Abdul. Yeah, the judges
didn't ruin it for me. It's the voting system
that did. Yeah, yeah. It did produce a couple
of artists that I do like, like Kelly Clarkson,
like Daughtry, Carrie Underwood here and there.
I don't like all of her stuff. I like maybe one
or two songs. But just really for me, like some
of the reality show stuff, it's how popular it
gets and how obsessive people get. I mean, you
know, I know I have my fandoms and I know I'm
obsessive about them, but this goes beyond that.
I mean, this is like just way out there. Yeah.
So what about you? What do you have for your
reality? I picked two basically just because
of the concept of them. First of all, my super
sweet 16 Just because all it is is a display
of spoiled fucking bitches, brats, excuse me,
spoiled brats that have way more than any kid
at their age ever should have and they're planning
and bitching about how great of a sweet 16 party
they can have. Like, this is why people hate
America. Like, you've gotta be fucking kidding
me, and we're gonna give it a TV show so everybody
can see them plan this ridiculously stupid waste
-of -money party. Anyways. Um, the materialistic
part of that's why I picked that one. And then,
this other one just is bizarre beyond belief,
and that's Paris Hilton's new best friend forever.
Oh god. Because I refuse to say the letters.
We could be here all night talking about - But
I mean, really? Really? You're gonna... have
a show to find your best friend? That's worse
than trying to have a show to find your dating
relationship or whatever like yeah Give me a
fucking break and the people that were on that
show They have no dignity whatsoever left Like
they're the bottom of the barrel And the third
one I really wish I didn't have to put this show
on my list because I'm such a fan of the original
version of this but the reboot of American gladiators
Was really bad. Yeah, I liked it though. I thought
it was kind of cool. They could have done it
so much better They had Hulk Hogan last that
long. So I mean they had Hulk Hogan They had
some crazy gladiators, but it just wasn't anywhere
near the same as the original one And I don't
know why You didn't like the gladiators like
you did in the original one I wanted to love
that show. I was so pumped that they were coming
back And to me it just fell flat on its face.
Now, getting into the other category, you and
I are going to alternate on this. I only got
one. Okay, well that's good. I'm going to start
with the Oprah copycat of Dr. Phil. That's pretty
bad. Oh my god. I agree. I would rather listen
to 20 hours of Loveline. Loveline's great, come
on. No, no, that's what I'm saying! I would rather
listen to 20 hours of Loveline than watch this
show. Dr. Drew's the man. That's right, Dr. Drew
is the man. This guy, oh my god, he is an Oprah
by -product, and that's all he is, and it's just
the way that, like... I know, because I've been
in therapy in my lifetime at some point or another.
Therapists are not like this. And I know it's
a TV show and they're playing it up, blah, blah,
blah. But I just don't get why people would go
to, first of all, a television show to get help.
I mean, if you're having a serious mental breakdown,
you need to call your family. You need to check
yourself into the hospital. You don't need to
go on fucking television. Yeah. And it goes back
to what you said a second ago about the people
on the Paris Hilton show being the lowest bottom
feeder common denominator They're all half the
people that go on shows like this Jerry Springer
included. They're only there for the money Yeah,
they're only there to be on TV and for the money
and what yeah, and that's not good. That's us
They'll do whatever they're told that's what's
wrong with TVs now TV nowadays. It's the type
of people that would like stab someone in the
back as long as they got on TV. Yeah, pretty
much. They'll eat dog shit if you put them on
TV. So what is your one other show? My one other
one, besides Ryan Seacrest, probably my least
favorite person in showbiz or in the celebrity
arena and my least favorite late night show of
all time would be The Last Call with Carson Daly.
I fucking hate Carson Daly. Carson Daly needs
to go into a dark alley and get raped and killed.
I know you should never wish that on someone,
but he's just terrible. I didn't hate him as
much on TRL, but he's always been a douchebag.
He's just especially a douchebag on Last Colony.
He acts like he's like God's gift to everybody.
I can't stand him. What are you gonna say? This
transitions perfectly into my last choice. Oh,
God. And we are severely gonna disagree with
on this. Yeah, he's a moron, people. No, hold
on. I let you have your opinion. Let me have
mine, dammit. I'm gonna compose myself here.
Alright, uh... The Late Show. The Late Night
with Conan O 'Brien. This guy is the biggest
douchebag in Hollywood history. No, he's not.
That's such an overstatement. This guy is so...
Even if I didn't like him, that's a dumb statement.
This is the... Just the way he does his show.
The way he attempts to be funny and fails miserably.
Funniest late night show guy I've ever seen.
No, not at all. Not at all. I just, like, he
tries to, like, okay, all the late night people,
you know, make jokes and they have their monologues
or anything else. Conan has this weird thing
where he'll use the camera and, of course, Kevin
can't see me because I don't have my camera on,
but he'll use the camera and he'll like... oh
my god it's it's called it but it'll like show
the camera in his fucking face give me a fucking
break that is not fucking comedy you fucking
ass -hat he's hilarious no he's not he's he's
funnier than camel he's funnier than way funnier
in carson daily because it doesn't try to be
funny because at least he knows he's not uh...
he's funnier than i'd even put him up there is
funnier than one or letterman Not funnier than
Johnny Carson, but funnier than all the other
guys. No one is funnier than Johnny Carson. The
only person, no, I take that back. The only current
person that's funnier than Conan O 'Brien is
Jimmy Fallon. Now, this actually transitions
into a show topic that we'll be doing eventually.
I'm not exactly sure when it might be, episode
29 of GCR, where we do talk about each late night
show. Now, for me, I'll say this and I'll say
this again when we get to that topic. Nowadays,
for me, the only time I really watch any late
night show is if they have a musical guest that
I like, like say Nickelback's on Leno or Letterman
or say Holland Oates is on Leno or Letterman
or anything like that. You know when they show
up like it like if if Conan of course now I don't
watch him because he's on TBS and TBS sucks But
even when Conan was on NBC If he had a decent
musical guest I would just watch for that So
yeah, we will have that topic eventually Anything
else you want to say other than your Conan love
and my Conan hate? Anything else you want to
say about the TV shows that we've hated over
the last 30 years? That the worst show I think
I've ever seen of all time, well actually I haven't
seen of, but have seen previous four of all time
has to be Blue Mountain State. So we're going
to head into some ads and then we're going to
come back with the outro. We'll be back. Movie
